Juxtaposing the Most Similar Contradiction in Edgar Allan...
Throughout all of Edgar Allan Poe s works are common ideas that oppose each such as madness
versus sanity, reality versus the imagined reality and life versus death. Usually these sentiments are
taken as contrasting ideas with little similarities to each other, like black and white. However, many of
these motifs are situated in the grey category. Poe uses the communal thought pathway to highlight its
antithesis; the pathway of grey. With the new pathway, he emphasizes the similarities of the opposing
ideas until they meld into one solid grey idea. One without the other is nothing more than absolutely
nothing at all. Poe creates the grey to both discredit society s division between black and white and to
stress that the first perception is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edgar Allan Poe also used some irony to show the same idea. Hop Frog uses the king s life, in which
he lived on jokes, to arrang[e] his last joke, one which the king clamor[s] for, [the one] in which the
king dies as stated in the Critical Companion to Edgar Allan Poe (Sova 81). The king s life of jokes is
spent, and Hop Frog s jokes have a deathly ring to the king. The irony again illustrates how
intertwined the two opposites are. Irony is also present in the short story Masque of the Red Death to
highlight the connection between life and death in a different way.
The theme within Masque of Red Death is presented in the opposite way, instead of showing that life
needs death, it displays that life cannot escape death. In this story, the nobles of an area attempt to
escape the effects of the sickness the Red Death, all the while allowing death easy pickings. While, for
some time the people are able to isolate themselves from death, the personified character of death
makes an anticipated visit. At the arrival of the masked man, who has the visage of a corpse, the
characters have begun to understand that death had come to get them at last. In the story, death is
synonymous with the outside as proposed by Martin Roth in his article in the University of Wisconsin
Journals. Roth describes the Red Death as an invader from the outside solidifying the idea that escape
is futile (Roth 50). Had death been

Abstract. During The Last Few Years, Government Officials
Abstract
During the last few years, government officials and criminal justice experts have explored the
different policies concerning sex offenders in the United States. Sexual violence is a growing concern
and in order to decrease the incidence of these crimes, legislators have passed regulatory guidance
such as policies, sexual offense registration, and community notification. This literature will explore
the definition of sex offenders in the United States and research the different treatments associated
with sexual offenders of all ages as well as promulgate the current legislation with data from
established federal resources. Keywords: sexual assault, recidivism, registration, SMART, NSOPW

An offense against a minor involves any of the following: an offense involving kidnapping... (42
U.S.C. §16911).
Sex offenders vary in numerous ways such as age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, sexual orientation,
and societal or economic class. These differences are referred to as typologies reported by Simons
(2015) in the Sex Offender Management Assessment and Planning Initiative (SOMAPI). According to
the Simons, the most traditional typologies of sex offenders are rapists, child sexual abusers, female
offenders, and Internet sexual offenders.
Finkelhor (2009) gives the most inclusive definition child sexual abuse is the use of force/coercion of
a sexual nature either when the victim is younger than age 13 and the age difference between the
victim and the perpetrator is at least 5 years, or when the victim is between 13 and 16 and the age
difference between the victim and perpetrator is at least 10 years . Child sexual abusers are typically
someone the child or family knows. The most important distinction among child sexual abusers is
whether they are pedophilic or non pedophilic, because pedophilia is a strong predictor of sexual
recidivism (Simons, 2015).
Rape is defined as penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or
object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim

Analysis Of Chopped And Screw
Houston, Texas is the hometown of an artist who pioneered an innovative genre of rap. Robert Earl
Davis Jr., better known as DJ Screw, birthed this genre by experimenting with turntables at a young
age. To Davis, there was precision in making his beat stand out from the others. His experimentation
led to the creation of what he called Chopped and Screwed. DJ Screw s interpretation of ideal rap
music governed not only the genre, but artist throughout Houston. During the 90 s, Chopped and
Screwed had a notable effect on musical, social, pharmaceutical, and cultural aspects in Houston
which are still being expressed today. Rap before Chopped and Screwed, like Miami bass, was usually
upbeat with a fast tempo. Few artists during the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To have a more intense and emotional experience with Chopped and Screwed, listeners often paired it
with sipping lean. Chopped and Screwed and lean complemented each other very well. DJ Screw and
other related Houston rappers often promoted lyrics about abusing lean. This made drinking the
substance socially acceptable and popular. Jesse Serwer, author of DJ Screw: From Cough Syrup to
Full Blown Fever stated, that s just the culture down here and a way of life . From then on, Sipping
Lean became a staple in the lives and music of Houston s artists and listeners. The impact of Chopped
and Screwed ventures on into the change of Houston s culture. Chopped and Screwed for Houstonians
was and still is a cultural identity. For example, June 27th is the day Houston habitants celebrate DJ
Screw. That is how important he is to rap music. Artist such as Drake have produced remixes from one
of DJ Screw s most memorable songs, June 27th. DJ Screw mixed and mastered the beat and various
artist freestyled over the beat. Many Houston artists supported the movement DJ Screw spearheaded
because it influenced the culture remarkably. The start of Screwed Up Click also greatly shaped
Chopped and Screwed. DJ Screw, the leader of the group, invited other Houston rappers to join. Some
of the original members included, but were not limited to, Big Moe, Fat Pat, Mike D, Botany Boyz,
and Big Hawk. Other members who

Digital Curation Task Force Paper
Digital Curation Task Force
Preamble:
The Digital Curation Task Force (DCTF) is charged with developing a digital curation plan for a small
university archives organizationally located within the library structure. The focus of the plan is on the
feasibility of building a digital repository program for the archives to provide better access to their
holdings.
Task Force Composition:
A successful digital curation effort requires collaboration between individuals with varied skillsets.
Therefore, the DCTF should be comprised of members of the archives unit, the library, and the larger
university community. All types of individuals listed below will be valuable additions to the DCTF:

The state of the current economic climate is common knowledge, resources for post secondary
educational institutions are not plentiful and budgets are tight! Some may question our motives for
choosing this moment to embark on creating a digital repository to provide better access to the
holdings of the archives, but I believe that we can tailor our strategy to the current climate and develop
a plan that is creative, feasible, and sustainable. The resource that I would like you all to explore is a
book titled Building a Digital Repository Program with Limited Resources, which is available as an
eBook via the library catalogue. This book was written recently from the academic archives/library
perspective by an expert in the field. Most importantly, the book focuses on how creating a well
designed, efficient, sustainable, fiscally responsible repository program with realistic, quantifiable
goals can help showcase...knowledge centers in this era of shrinking budgets and an increasingly
digital environment (Clobridge, 2010). The author intended the book to function as a handbook for
both those beginning and well versed in digital repository work, so everyone in the DCTF should be
able to come away from this resource more knowledgeable about the work ahead (Clobridge, 2010).
Part One of the resource focuses on big picture stuff like

A Wrinkle In Time Analysis
A Wrinkle in Time was written by Madeleine L Engle, an award winning John Newberry Medal
author. She was born on November 29, 1918, wrote the book A Wrinkle in Time that became
published in 1962. Following that, L Engle wrote the sequels which included A Wind in Door, A Swift
Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time. In the novel, Margaret Meg Murry, Charles
Wallace Murry, and Calvin O Keefe are given a task which leads them to save Meg s father, Mr.
Murry. Throughout their journey, they face many sources of evil. The evils that they face in the novel
are The Black Thing, The Man with Red Eyes, and IT. Even though there are evil forces in their
expedition, the three children, Mr. Murry, the Mrs. W s, and more people they meet are good who are
all working against the strong, and overpowering darkness of the evil to conquer it. One of the first
evil forces the kids and the Mrs. W s run into is The Black Thing. They first run into it whenever they
are leaving the earth s atmosphere. Meg looked. The dark shadow was still there. It had not lessened
or dispersed with the coming of night. And where the shadow was the stars were not visible. What
could there be about a shadow that was so terrifying that she knew that there had never been before or
ever would be again, anything that would chill her with a fear that was beyond shuddering, beyond
crying or screaming, beyond the possibility of comfort? (L Engle 81). The Black Thing obviously

Negative Aspects Of Cultural Relativism
Whether we choose to actively acknowledge it or not, Cultural Relativism plays an integral role in our
everyday lives. Cultural Relativism is a theory that is based on the fact that society dictates what is
morally wrong or right. However, just because society approves of certain actions, does not mean that
the actions are morally right. Societies as a whole can and will have mishaps from time to time. In
addition to this, Cultural Relativists do not believe in progress; these individuals presume that
circumstances change. Cultural Relativists also adhere to the core belief that everyone s ideas are
morally equivalent. Though this ideology is the preferred choice of a majority of philosophers, there is
a multitude of flaws that challenge the crux of what we know as Cultural Relativism. In this paper, I
will present two problematic aspects of Cultural Relativism. From there I will then present their
counter arguments, and evaluate the Cultural Relativists response to these criticisms.
For many years the United States was a hostile environment for a vast majority of African Americans
living in certain areas. These individuals were considered less than human and were segregated and
stripped of basically all of their socio economic rights. According to Cultural relativists this constant
degradation and denial of basic human rights were considered right; since society deemed it morally
right then it must have been morally right. But as I mentioned earlier societies as a whole can have
misguided views. The horrible injustices that these individuals faced were objectively wrong. This
constant mistreatment created a constant tension between citizens of the United States. It also
polarized the nation one side was all for the marginalization of the African American people and the
other side supported African Americans fighting for their rights. This sort of belief that was considered
morally right, was in fact quite debilitating for the United States. When faced with such an issue, a
cultural relativist would argue this point by saying along the lines of this: individuals who were on the
outside looking in have no idea what the American Culture of this time period was; if you are not an
active participant in this

Things Fall Apart Essay
Things Fall Apart Opposites do not Attract
In Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Mr. Brown, the first missionary in Umuofia, was a kind and
respectful man. Not to say that Reverend James Smith was not, but his degree of kindness and respect
were present in a whole different level. They both wanted to convert the lost, all those in Umuofia that
were not in the church. Mr. Brown made friends with the clan and trod softly on his faith, (pg.178)
while Mr. Smith told them how things were in a harsh voice and tried to force his religion on the
people of Umuofia. The impacts the two had on the people and the church were exact opposites. Mr.

Brown, more people flooded into his school. Mr. Brown s school not only taught them how to speak
and read in another tongue, but from the very beginning religion and education went hand in hand
(pg.182).
Mr. Smith, on the other, hand was very harsh and saw things as black and white. And black was evil...
(pg.184). That unfortunate turn of phrase was indicative of ignorance and his attitude from the
beginning toward the natives of Umuofia who were dark skinned. Under his control, or one might say
lack of control, the over zealous converts... now flourished in full favor (pg. 185) causing the church
and clan to meet collide to head for once and all when Enoch had killed an ancestral spirit (pg. 186).
Once the egwugwu went to confront Mr. Smith for the killing of one of their members, Mr. Brown s
ignorance and rudeness were revealed even greater than before when he refused to leave the grounds
when asked. Because of the reputation and the friendships that were built by Mr. Brown, Mr. Smith
was treated with the same respect when confronted by the spirits. Unfortunately, Mr. Smith still would
not go and respect the wishes of the spirits and leaders of Umuofia despite their kindness regarding the
situation at hand. Although Mr. Smith stood his ground... he could not save his church (pg. 191) and
the hands of the egwugwu tore apart the hard work Mr. Brown put into the church in Umuofia before
having to leave both physically and

The Issue Of Criminal Activities
To participate in criminal activities means to be involved in An act committed in violation of law
where the consequence of conviction by a court is punishment, especially where the punishment is a
serious one such as imprisonment. There are various reasons why an individual may choose to commit
the offense; however, there are also many different developing theories and suggestions about why
crimes actually occur at all. For example; do some individuals have a predisposition, born of either
their nature or nurture, which leads them to commit crimes? Can the likelihood of committing a crime
be decided within the first four years of life? And therefore, whether or not are offenders always to
blame? Attachment can be defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These children are often easily soothed by their attachment figure and are able to then grow and
develop confidence in their attachment figure to be there to support them. Children are then able to
use their attachment figure as a secure base in which to explore their surroundings. However, when the
child and their caregiver are separated, the child becomes upset and distressed until their return, in
which they are again easily comforted. An insecure resistant attachment develops as a result of
inconsistent levels of responses from their primary caregiver. The child grow to be dependent on their
attachment figure and often exhibit clingy behaviour but as a result of not developing any feelings of
security toward them, they are not easily soothed or comforted by interaction with their primary
caregiver when distressed. Children with resistant attachment type explore their surroundings very
little as they prefer to stay within the close proximity of their caregiver. Insecure avoidant attachment
type may develop if the child s primary caregiver is inattentive or unavailable during times of distress.
This motivates the child s belief that any communication of their needs will have no impact on their
primary caregiver. As such the child then continues not to seek contact with their caregiver during
further times of distress. Children with this attachment type also tend not to orientate their
explorations of the world in accordance to

Determining Unknown in Microbiology Lab
Determining an Unknown Through Deferential Stains and Biochemical Tests Introduction There are
many reasons for knowing the identity of microorganisms. The reasons range from knowing the
causative agent of a disease in a patient, so as to know how it can be treated, to knowing the correct
microorganism to be used for making certain foods or antibiotics. This study was done by applying all
of the methods that have been learned so far in the microbiology laboratory class for the identification
of unknown bacteria. The identification process can be completed with a series of deferential stains
and biochemical tests. Creating a dichotomous key helps to limit the amount of biochemical tests done

The enzyme urease breaks urea down into NH3 and CO2. An orange broth containing urea is used for
this test and needs to be inoculated with the gram negative bacteria. A pink color in the medium
indicates a urease positive organism, an orange or yellow is negative. The IMViC test is a series of
different tests that differentiate between enterics. One is the Indole test. This test tells whether the
bacterium possesses tryptophanase which is the enzyme that breaks down tryptophan into indole. The
agar contains tryptic soy broth so if the bacterium contains tryptophanase, indole is produced. This
production of indole is seen by adding Kovac s reagent which causes a red ring to be seen at the top of
the tube. The citrate test is also used to see which kind of products the bacteria make. It uses a green
agar slant that contains sodium and ammonium phosphate. Bromythymol blue dye is late added as an
indicator. Inoculation of the slant with a needle using a zig zag then stab technique was used with the

Alternative Fuels And Its Effects On Our Environment
The engine of today is largely dominated by the oil industry. Most of our energy consumption is
contributed to transportation and movement of goods. This creates a high demand for fuel as the
number of miles driven per person is projected to grow. Currently, 86% of vehicles run on fossil fuels,
which create heavy amounts of carbon dioxide gas which puts heavy strain on our environment. It is
up to large companies to research alternative methods of fuels and compare them to our most
dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, and
hydrogen fuel cells. If one of these proves to be a viable source, then we can move toward
development of engines that accept these fuels and deviate from standard fossil fuel consumption.
Biodiesel:
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel derived from animal fats, vegetable oils, and recycled grease. It is made
from a blend of certain plants and animal fats, helping to burn a cleaner reduced emission fuel.
Biodiesel can replace diesel fuel and be used in diesel engines. The US currently produces about 1.7
billion gallons of biodiesel; not enough to meet our use of 40 billion gallons. Biodiesel was first
developed in 1890 by Rudolph Diesel. Rudolph believed that pure vegetable oils could power early
diesel engines [5]. Despite his discovery, biodiesel development was forgotten as cheaper alternative
sources of fuel were presented. Diesel derived from petroleum was favored over biodiesel for its

In Part C copper seemed to be the least reactive with the nitrate solutions of all of the metals that were
tested. On the other hand, magnesium seemed to be very reactive, as it did have a reaction with each
of the nitrate solutions. In Part B it seemed as though iron had the most violent reaction with
hydrochloric acid. Magnesium is combined with both copper sulphate (CuSO4) and copper nitrate
(Cu(NO3)2). The reactions with both solutions show some similarities such as producing particles.
However with the copper sulphate the solution turns bluer, but in the copper nitrate the magnesium
actually turns into a blue hue. The metals from all three parts if placed in a reactivity series, from most
reactive to least reactive, would look like this:

However, when the Japanese invaded China during WWII and forced all the civilians into communes,

Analysis Of Jane Austen s The One Hand Mansfield Park
Jane Austen is an author who sticks to her own established tropes across many of her novels. Time and
time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and similar situations in her novel. But
Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that tend to stand out against Austen s others and what
makes them stand out is not so much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper insight
into them. In examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between them is the
way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Park is possibly Austen s
darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom readers have found hard to like. On the
other hand Emma is a lively novel full of hilariously ridiculous missteps and a heroine who wields all
the power necessary to cause those missteps. Yet they do have other things in common. For instance,
both examine themes of isolation and issues of a small community, and in both novels, day trips and
journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than relieve it.
Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their respective criticisms of
Mansfield Park and Emma. Auerbach paints Fanny as a monster comparable to Frankenstein s creature
and other classic English monsters such as the vampire and even Beowulf s Grendel. She states that
like Frankenstein and his monster... Fanny is a killjoy (448), and argues that Fanny draws sustenance

Even though I m a fan of the Rolling Stones, I never really knew their history and how Brian Jones

after in Brian s memory. Not to my surprise, the remaining members continued on a path of struggles
with addiction.
Though they were constantly in the media for all of their scandals, I found it interesting to learn that
their struggles actually helped contribute to their fame, especially with the younger generations. In my
opinion, this set the trend for all of the other rock and roll bands to come. Reflecting on some other

thing usually involves drug addiction that opens the door for other unfortunate events. Oddly this

The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill
Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The Subjection
of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society and their unequal
relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were considered to be inferior to
men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be submissive in nature. Deeply
influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart Mill s own beliefs, The
Subjection of Women was published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature that would not only
challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate for different approaches
in light of modern times. Throughout his essay Mill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, any conclusions on woman s nature should only be taken after women have been given the
chance to truly experience equality. As Mill himself maintained:
I deny that anyone knows or can know, the nature of the two sexes, as long as they have only been
seen in their present relation to one another. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly
assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is natural to
the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties freely
Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society had
seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in life,
when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to believe
that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything else.
However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the mentality
that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. That they have been taught to submit to
the superiority of males and most importantly to always put first the interest of their family and their
men before her own, defining with it the way females

The Influence Of The Mass Superstition Of Witchcraft In...
Since the Middle Ages to the end of the 17th century, the mass superstition of witchcraft developed
throughout Europe. As the mass mysteria got out of hand, thousands of innocent individuals were
persecuted. However, the ended with the Scientific Revolution, where the advances in medicine, rise
of insurance companies and lawyers made people feel more secure against physical and natural
calamities. Although the Reformation divided Europe between Protestant and Catholic, ultimately the
persecution of individuals as witches occurred due to religious differences, social stereotypes of
women, and economic gain. Over the course of the 15th to 17th centuries, 80% of the persecuted
individuals were women. Kramer and Sprenger (Document 3) demonstrates how women were more
vulnerable than men because of their femininity, sexual appeal, and weakness to Satan. The
underlying sexism in Europe was another cause of the persecution of witches to remind women of
their place in society. The purpose of their work s publication was to elevate black magic to the
criminal status of heresy and prescribes inquisitorial practices for secular courts to get rid of witches.
Since the suggested procedures included torture to obtain confessions, the consequence of death
caused thousands of individuals to be executed. There were very few men accused of witchcraft from
1546 1680 (Document 7). This shows how lower to middle class men were accused compared to
women. The historical significance of these

Female Circumcision Essay
Female Genital Circumcision Female genital circumcision (FGC) is a cultural ritual that is performed
to the vast majority of women within the countries of Sudan, Kenya, Mali, Benin, Togo, and parts of
the Middle East. Female genital circumcision also termed as female genital mutilation is used based
upon a person s beliefs. This ritual has been highly controversial for many years especially in the
western society, due to the health risks that women may have to go through. Doctor Gruenbaum, and
anthropologist who studied FGC in Sudan, has researched this topic and believes that outsiders need
to have an open mind about diverse cultures. I believe that this procedure should not be illegal;
however, education about the risks of the procedure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The practice of female genital circumcision is also shown in other cultures in different parts of the
world. It is highly concentrated in North of Africa; however, it has existed also in Middle Eastern
countries and some parts of Asia. Some of the Middle Eastern countries that practice FGC are Yemen,
Oman, Iraqi Kurdistan, amongst some Bedouin women in Israel, and was also practiced by the
Ethiopian Jews. It is unclear whether they continue with the practice now that they are settled in Israel.
FGC is also practiced among Bohra Muslim populations in parts of India and Pakistan, and amongst
Muslim populations in Malaysia and Indonesia (FORWARD). There are different types are Female
Genital Circumcision; mostly it is put in one category by an outsider. Dr. Greunbaum in her book, The
Female Circumcision Controversy: An Anthropological Perspective, states that FGC cannot be
generalized but it can be differentiated and grouped. Every cultural group performs this sacred ritual in
a different way. Historically, FGC is believed to have originated from Ethiopia or Egypt, FGC was
practiced by Ethiopians, Phoenicians, Hittites (Taba, 1979) and may have spread to other parts of
Africa. WHO has categorized FGC in four different categories: Type one is known as clitoridectomy,

Coping Skills Analysis
I am a very anxious person. Most would not know this about me because I have been able to
implement coping skills to keep my anxiety under control. Using my coping skills has allowed me to
keep my cool. However, on the inside, I am a complete wreck. When I am encountering situations that
make me nervous, I feel as though I have to talk myself down. I know that this trait was passed down
to me from both of my parents whether it was from genetics, the environment, or both. My father was
an alcoholic when I was growing up (He has been in recovery for over 30 years) and my mother was a
workaholic. I have an older brother and running the household was left up to him and me. Having a
father that was an alcoholic made life unpredictable.

How Wireless Technology Has Changed Improved
Abstract: The purpose of this research paper is to demonstrate how much Wireless Technology has
really improved, since the year James Clerk Maxwell developed and explained the theory of
electromagnetic waves on 1865; And Heinrich Hertz put into practice Maxwell s theory by
experimenting with electromagnetic waves measuring their speed and wavelength between the years
1885 1889; Until present days. As this type of technology grows, it is perceivable to what extent
people have learned how to manipulate electromagnetic waves at will. For the purpose of this paper, I
have done a very extensive research looking for remarkable improvements that would take a
substantial and detailed portion that would explain the what, when and how of each major
breakthrough, on the body of this research. Wireless Technology has become a very important part of
our daily lives as individual users, groups, or even businesses since radio waves were discovered, and
we learned how to manipulate it to some extent. It isn t odd to see a device which doesn t depend of a
cable to receive/transmit a signal or radio waves nowadays. We often see people using smartphones,
laptops without requiring any external connection to the LAN, or even our own radios. All of these
wouldn t be possible without the existence of Wireless Technology. But, has there really been a whole
deal of improvements on this type of technology? According to (Merriam Webster, Inc., n.d), to

Social Colonialism And Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism was a sociological theory that merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection
and the work of Herbert Spencer, Malthus, and other scientific and sociological theorists to justify
imperialism, racism, and conservative economic policies. The overall acceptance of the power of
nature in defining human beings developed during the 18th century Enlightenment. Europe s
exploration not only brought about immense economic and agricultural growth, but also exposed them
to human behavior and life patterns within environments and under circumstances dramatically
different than their own (4). The most popular catch phrases of Darwinism, struggle for existence and
survival of the fittest , when applied to the life of man in society, suggested that nature would provide
that the best competitors in a competitive situation would win, and that this process would lead to
continuing improvement (6. Hoft). This misinterpreted sense of superiority engulfed much of society
at the time and was used to justify the logistics behind certain actions regarding capitalism, racism,
and imperialism. Furthermore, it served as the backbone of some of the most heinous acts imaginable
including the genocide and sterilization of certain groups of people.
The first business of a colonist is to clear the country of wild beasts, and the most noxious of all wild
beasts is the wild man , unknown (87). Social Darwinism was the product of late nineteenth century

Society s Unconscious Response Of Health And Illness
Society s unconscious response to health and illness
An important next step will be to re establish and anchor in trust in ourselves, and there is no better
opportunity to test our trust than the fear generated by social beliefs and the media reports surrounding
health and dis ease.
I would like to share an example of societies belief systems that surround dis ease with the relevant
points of a recent therapy session with a client.
My client who had been diagnosed with a life threatening dis ease (for the second time) arrived for a
Therapy session.
As we began to talk, she had a look of uncertainty on her face, unsure of how to express, in sensible
terms, what she had been experiencing and feeling since her diagnosis .

In contrast, earlier that day she had shared her thoughts with a close family member, she expressed her

her inner feelings.
The family member was horrified, that s it she said you ve given up , you have to Fight this thing , you
must Fight it , was her panicked response.
This reaction did not surprise me in the slightest; it is a reflection of the unbalanced views we have
regarding health, illness and our bodies.
Our lives are filled with fear regarding dis ease. Will I be next? The statistics state me, or someone in
my family will defiantly be struck by serious illness.
The TV adverts appear to be ever increasing, filled with fear of what will happen to your family when
you are taken by a dis ease, children are even shown saying goodbye to a parent, I have seen a baby
used to highlight a dis ease. These adverts and the frequent messages we are given regarding dis ease,
is ironically, very unhealthy.
You will notice I am not naming specific dis eases, the names/words carry a vibration and we don t
need the vibration of a dis ease and the energy it carries in this book or affecting you as you read.
Therefore we can happily leave the names out.
Just remember at all times what DIS EASE means, dis ease within the body, it is far less frightening
and leaves the door wide open to go from DIS ease to EASE.

How Discipline Is Not Easy
Discipline has always been, to me, a thought of growing in yourself or in this case growing in your
relationship with Christ. Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we discipline
ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in many aspects.
Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality. Meaning, the inner
and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to describe fasting, prayer,
worship, and even celebration. When Jesus spoke of spiritual discipline, he hardly gives instruction of
how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of an outline/guidance to types of
disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are three types of disciplines discussed
in this book, along with many sub categories within each type. All these groups are used to help one
form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are inward, outward, and corporate discipline.
Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on your inner self/spiritual life. This involves
things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying. Outward disciple is more of what you can do as
an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service.
These are still self centered but more focused on the outside actions rather than the inside actions.
Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This

The Teachings of Intertwined Texts
Intertextuality and Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a work of radical intertextuality, as its very title Frankenstein: or, the
modern Prometheus indicates. No other novel of the period is so imbued with the voices of
contemporary poets: in her pages Mary Shelley quotes directly from Byron, Coleridge, Wordsworth,
and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Moreover, the Creature learns language and cultural forms from four major
texts: Plutarch s Lives, Milton s Paradise Lost , Goethe s Sorrows of Young Werther, and Volney s
Ruins of Empire that, for better or worse, shape his destiny. Thus, it becomes an exemplary text for
scholarly inquiry. Even prior to opening the book, Mary Shelley incorporates intertextuality. ... Show

It includes letters from Werther to his friend Winhelm, about the series of events regarding his love
triangle and the roller coaster of emotions it causes. Werther decides he would rather die than remain
miserable, so he commits suicide. As the creature reads this novel, he begins to develop a sense of
humanity and emotions as he starts to relate to others. Werther makes the creature question his role in
society, and makes him begin to comprehend depression and despair. Many deaths occur throughout
the story, including Werther s suicide. All the deaths were due to the loss of companionship, which
amplifies the role of nature in Frankenstein and reiterates the importance of relationships. This story
calls to question the possibility of the creature taking his own life.
As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition. I found myself
similar, yet at the same time strangely unlike to the beings concerning whom I read, and to whose
conversation I was a listener. I sympathized with, and partly understood them, but I was unformed in
mind; I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free ; and there was
none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come?
What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.

Thesis Statement For Universal Education
Countless countries benefit from a capitalistic system, but others, like Denmark, the Netherlands, and
the Czech Republic, have a more socialistic giving society, offering free or low cost schools, universal
medical care, as well as supportive welfare to citizens. The world would gain from a higher quality of
free education. The United States would benefit from educating people free of charge. My belief of a
fair universal education offered to everyone, no matter their place of origin, is shaped by experiencing
the benefits of free education growing up in Czechoslovakia, by living in the Netherlands, and the
United States. As a child growing up under the strict influence of forbidden profits of capitalism and
receiving an education free of charge, socialistic ideals shape my worldview. Being born in
Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republic since 1993) under a communist, socialist regime with an
underlying suppressed democracy, my worldview is based on child s idealistic views of living together
with beliefs of equality of all people. Even though the restricted media and the limited amount of
imported goods made it easier for the communist government to influence and dictate the mainstream
population, it shielded me from the political world, because I was a child. Therefore, I was only
gaining the benefits of the system free medical care and an excellent education. In the 4th Grade,

Fair Value Measurement
FAIR VALUE MEASUREMENT: IMPLEMENTATION ISSUES AND CHALLENGES (PART 1)
(by Tuam Kwok Choon and Ng Kean Kok)
INTRODUCTION Since the promulgation of fair value accounting by the International Accounting
Standards Board (IASB), the subject matter has been hotly debated by industry players and
professionals of the accounting fraternity the world over. Many problems and pitfalls have been
highlighted on the mark to market premise. For example, David Gwilliam and Richard H.G. Jackson
(2008) noted that Enron was able to monetize physical assets so as to bring them within the remit of
mark to market accounting , suggesting misuse of fair value measurement. Fair value is said to be
superior to other forms of measurement because it is easily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the emphasis on mark to market approach, fair value hence is definitely very relevant in today s
business environment. Historical cost accounting fails in terms of not only in relation to reporting
current values, but also in terms of projecting future values. Fair value hence allows for better
investment decision to be made, based on latest fair values reported.
INDUSTRY FEEDBACK AND RESPONSE Critics of the US banking institutions have strongly
criticised and blamed fair value accounting for aggravating the credit crisis, forcing the institutions to
heavily slash the value of their mortgage assets, which resulted in weakening the regulatory capital
ratios. The need to mark to market the financial instruments forced many financial institutions to incur
large writedowns on the balance sheets. Without the regulatory cash cushion, inter bank and customer
lending became severly hampered, thus creating a stagnant credit market. It is easy to make
accounting rules the scapegoat when it comes to shifting blames. The reality is that had financial
institutions adopted fair value accounting and its disclosure requirements early, they would have seen
the writing on the wall.
Still, it is hard to ignore the fact that the recent financial crisis has exposed some shortcomings of
fair value accounting. Reporting fair value in illiquid markets creates earnings volatility and

Surprisingly, about 5 million people in the U.S. regularly accept the burden of driving and using gas to

people are neglecting the overall simplicity of running outdoors. Clearly, the majority decides running

running outdoors are both superb options for exercise to develop cardiovascular strength and

treadmills are the new breakthroughs in the fitness industry and are considerably convenient, outdoor

An oft swept under the carpet Biblical story is that of the rape of Dinah and her brothers subsequent
murder of an entire city. Reminiscent of The Rolling Stone s Gimme Shelter, Chapter 34 of Genesis
exemplifies sin in the Bible to the point where the story can be looked at many ways and the blame
can be placed on many different people. There is the rapist himself, Shechem, there are the murderous
sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, who slaughter a defenseless city, and there is the weakness of Jacob
himself, willing to bargain his daughter away after her defilement. At the height of all the the sin
though, is the absence of God in this story, who does not condemn nor punish either the actions of

While Simeon and Levi s actions may not be the hand of God directly, there is certainly the influence
of swift and just punishment over Dinah s rapists. It is not only a chivalrous defending of Dinah s

punish Simeon and Levi for their actions but rather lets them carry out the punishment for Shechem
and his sin, creating a clear image that Shechem s actions were wrong. Simeon and Levi s action also
bring up the wimpy actions, or lack thereof, of Jacob, who is, without much argument, willing to give
Dinah away as she is now spoiled goods. Their insistence on defending their sister is a necessary
extension of making this a modern parable where the rape victim is not silenced but is given a voice of

helplessness in the entire situation. God, with his silence and allowing of this slaughter recognizes
Dinah s plight, that the victim is deserving of more than

What Do We Learn About the Treatment of Children in Dickens Novel? Oliver Twist was written in
1837, in the wake of the great change in society, brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Factories
were introduced to Britain, which created lots of jobs for many working class citizens. This in turn
created vast overcrowding in many cities and towns; most people wanted to be closer to their jobs.
The huge numbers of people living closely together resulted in the standards in which people were
living in dropping. The little they were paid wasn t enough to support, in most cases, a family, or to

The old story ... no wedding ring, І see. Ah! Good night! Oliver is a typical example of an orphan in
the 1800 s. He was born into the workhouse, and has never set foot outside it, nor would he ever have
the chance to. This was the same for most children in these times. The circumstances in which he was
born, gives us insight into how society was. Oliver s mother was unmarried, and although in today ѕ
society we wouldn t bat an eyelid at this, she would have been shunned by the everyone. We can see
evidence that, even though his mother has died, the ramifications of her actions have led him to be
persecuted still by others. Yer know, Work us, continued Noah, emboldened by Oliver ѕ silence, and

reader knows this story will by no means be happy, and Oliver does not have an easy life ahead of
him. The tone has already been set for the story, and Oliver has only just been born. This is clearly
down to the fact that he has been born in a workhouse, and will be subject to it ѕ cruel treatment for

Business Ethics Essay
Business ethics are a moral code that people conducting any sort of business should feel honorably
obligated to follow. People are definitely morally responsible to follow a code of ethics and should
never cheat each other. Parts of this code of ethics should be honesty, integrity, fidelity, charity,
responsibility, and self discipline. Those ethics should apply both to a person buying something, and a
person selling something. I don t believe that a person should be forced to follow the caveat emptor
policy, on the basis that it is unfair and unjust both to the buyer and seller. If you are an ethical person,
you should not have to warn people to beware. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, they used to coerce women into liking specific cars, so the husband would have to feel
forced to buy the car to impress their girlfriends/wives. Another example is how the car dealer used to
put lousy parts into the cars and sell them, knowing that the car would break down 5 miles down the
road. He took advantage of the people s necessity to get out of Oklahoma for his own personal gain.
Also, the buyer has a certain responsibility too. They need to make sure to not completely trust the
seller, because not everyone is ethical. They should examine the goods carefully, ask educated
questions, and read up on the topic before going ahead and buying something. For example, in The
Grapes of Wrath, the car dealer was able to take more advantage of the people because he can see the
raw need on their faces, and how they didn t really ask anything to make him give them a better deal.
Therefore, the people didn t do their part of being ethical buyers to get the best and most honest deal.
The advertiser also has a big responsibility too, to be honest in the ads. For example, in The Grapes of

lied to the people who wanted to buy that car, saying that it had just been sold. They took advantage of

This opinion regards service as indivisible item, which cannot be touched, distributed by a recognized

  • 2. Juxtaposing the Most Similar Contradiction in Edgar Allan... Throughout all of Edgar Allan Poe s works are common ideas that oppose each such as madness versus sanity, reality versus the imagined reality and life versus death. Usually these sentiments are taken as contrasting ideas with little similarities to each other, like black and white. However, many of these motifs are situated in the grey category. Poe uses the communal thought pathway to highlight its antithesis; the pathway of grey. With the new pathway, he emphasizes the similarities of the opposing ideas until they meld into one solid grey idea. One without the other is nothing more than absolutely nothing at all. Poe creates the grey to both discredit society s division between black and white and to stress that the first perception is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edgar Allan Poe also used some irony to show the same idea. Hop Frog uses the king s life, in which he lived on jokes, to arrang[e] his last joke, one which the king clamor[s] for, [the one] in which the king dies as stated in the Critical Companion to Edgar Allan Poe (Sova 81). The king s life of jokes is spent, and Hop Frog s jokes have a deathly ring to the king. The irony again illustrates how intertwined the two opposites are. Irony is also present in the short story Masque of the Red Death to highlight the connection between life and death in a different way. The theme within Masque of Red Death is presented in the opposite way, instead of showing that life needs death, it displays that life cannot escape death. In this story, the nobles of an area attempt to escape the effects of the sickness the Red Death, all the while allowing death easy pickings. While, for some time the people are able to isolate themselves from death, the personified character of death makes an anticipated visit. At the arrival of the masked man, who has the visage of a corpse, the characters have begun to understand that death had come to get them at last. In the story, death is synonymous with the outside as proposed by Martin Roth in his article in the University of Wisconsin Journals. Roth describes the Red Death as an invader from the outside solidifying the idea that escape is futile (Roth 50). Had death been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Abstract. During The Last Few Years, Government Officials Abstract During the last few years, government officials and criminal justice experts have explored the different policies concerning sex offenders in the United States. Sexual violence is a growing concern and in order to decrease the incidence of these crimes, legislators have passed regulatory guidance such as policies, sexual offense registration, and community notification. This literature will explore the definition of sex offenders in the United States and research the different treatments associated with sexual offenders of all ages as well as promulgate the current legislation with data from established federal resources. An offense against a minor involves any of the following: an offense involving kidnapping... (42 U.S.C. §16911). Sex offenders vary in numerous ways such as age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, sexual orientation, and societal or economic class. These differences are referred to as typologies reported by Simons (2015) in the Sex Offender Management Assessment and Planning Initiative (SOMAPI). According to the Simons, the most traditional typologies of sex offenders are rapists, child sexual abusers, female offenders, and Internet sexual offenders. Finkelhor (2009) gives the most inclusive definition child sexual abuse is the use of force/coercion of a sexual nature either when the victim is younger than age 13 and the age difference between the victim and the perpetrator is at least 5 years, or when the victim is between 13 and 16 and the age difference between the victim and perpetrator is at least 10 years . Child sexual abusers are typically someone the child or family knows. The most important distinction among child sexual abusers is whether they are pedophilic or non pedophilic, because pedophilia is a strong predictor of sexual recidivism (Simons, 2015). Rape is defined as penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim (Uniform Crime ... • 4. Analysis Of Chopped And Screw Houston, Texas is the hometown of an artist who pioneered an innovative genre of rap. Robert Earl Davis Jr., better known as DJ Screw, birthed this genre by experimenting with turntables at a young age. To Davis, there was precision in making his beat stand out from the others. His experimentation led to the creation of what he called Chopped and Screwed. DJ Screw s interpretation of ideal rap music governed not only the genre, but artist throughout Houston. During the 90 s, Chopped and Screwed had a notable effect on musical, social, pharmaceutical, and cultural aspects in Houston which are still being expressed today. DJ Screw and other related Houston rappers often promoted lyrics about abusing lean. This made drinking the substance socially acceptable and popular. Jesse Serwer, author of DJ Screw: From Cough Syrup to Full Blown Fever stated, that s just the culture down here and a way of life . From then on, Sipping Lean became a staple in the lives and music of Houston s artists and listeners. The impact of Chopped and Screwed ventures on into the change of Houston s culture. Chopped and Screwed for Houstonians was and still is a cultural identity. For example, June 27th is the day Houston habitants celebrate DJ Screw. That is how important he is to rap music. Artist such as Drake have produced remixes from one of DJ Screw s most memorable songs, June 27th. DJ Screw mixed and mastered the beat and various artist freestyled over the beat. Many Houston artists supported the movement DJ Screw spearheaded because it influenced the culture remarkably. The start of Screwed Up Click also greatly shaped Chopped and Screwed. • 8. Negative Aspects Of Cultural Relativism Whether we choose to actively acknowledge it or not, Cultural Relativism plays an integral role in our everyday lives. Cultural Relativism is a theory that is based on the fact that society dictates what is morally wrong or right. However, just because society approves of certain actions, does not mean that the actions are morally right. Societies as a whole can and will have mishaps from time to time. In addition to this, Cultural Relativists do not believe in progress; these individuals presume that circumstances change. Cultural Relativists also adhere to the core belief that everyone s ideas are morally equivalent. Though this ideology is the preferred choice of a majority of philosophers, there is a multitude of flaws that challenge the crux of what we know as Cultural Relativism. In this paper, I will present two problematic aspects of Cultural Relativism. From there I will then present their counter arguments, and evaluate the Cultural Relativists response to these criticisms. For many years the United States was a hostile environment for a vast majority of African Americans living in certain areas. These individuals were considered less than human and were segregated and stripped of basically all of their socio economic rights. According to Cultural relativists this constant degradation and denial of basic human rights were considered right; since society deemed it morally right then it must have been morally right. But as I mentioned earlier societies as a whole can have misguided views. The horrible injustices that these individuals faced were objectively wrong. This constant mistreatment created a constant tension between citizens of the United States. It also polarized the nation one side was all for the marginalization of the African American people and the other side supported African Americans fighting for their rights. This sort of belief that was considered morally right, was in fact quite debilitating for the United States. When faced with such an issue, a cultural relativist would argue this point by saying along the lines of this: individuals who were on the outside looking in have no idea what the American Culture of this time period was; if you are not an active participant in this ... They both wanted to convert the lost, all those in Umuofia that were not in the church. Mr. Brown made friends with the clan and trod softly on his faith, (pg.178) while Mr. Smith told them how things were in a harsh voice and tried to force his religion on the people of Umuofia. Because of the reputation and the friendships that were built by Mr. Brown, Mr. Smith was treated with the same respect when confronted by the spirits. One is the Indole test. This test tells whether the bacterium possesses tryptophanase which is the enzyme that breaks down tryptophan into indole. The agar contains tryptic soy broth so if the bacterium contains tryptophanase, indole is produced. Most of our energy consumption is contributed to transportation and movement of goods. This creates a high demand for fuel as the number of miles driven per person is projected to grow. Currently, 86% of vehicles run on fossil fuels, which create heavy amounts of carbon dioxide gas which puts heavy strain on our environment. It is up to large companies to research alternative methods of fuels and compare them to our most dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, and hydrogen fuel cells. If one of these proves to be a viable source, then we can move toward development of engines that accept these fuels and deviate from standard fossil fuel consumption. Biodiesel: Biodiesel is a renewable fuel derived from animal fats, vegetable oils, and recycled grease. It is made from a blend of certain plants and animal fats, helping to burn a cleaner reduced emission fuel. Biodiesel can replace diesel fuel and be used in diesel engines. The US currently produces about 1.7 billion gallons of biodiesel; not enough to meet our use of 40 billion gallons. Biodiesel was first developed in 1890 by Rudolph Diesel. Rudolph believed that pure vegetable oils could power early diesel engines [5]. Despite his discovery, biodiesel development was forgotten as cheaper alternative sources of fuel were presented. • 18. Analysis Of Jane Austen s The One Hand Mansfield Park Jane Austen is an author who sticks to her own established tropes across many of her novels. Time and time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and similar situations in her novel. But Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that tend to stand out against Austen s others and what makes them stand out is not so much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper insight into them. In examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between them is the way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Park is possibly Austen s darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom readers have found hard to like. On the other hand Emma is a lively novel full of hilariously ridiculous missteps and a heroine who wields all the power necessary to cause those missteps. Yet they do have other things in common. For instance, both examine themes of isolation and issues of a small community, and in both novels, day trips and journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than relieve it. Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their respective criticisms of Mansfield Park and Emma. Auerbach paints Fanny as a monster comparable to Frankenstein s creature and other classic English monsters such as the vampire and even Beowulf s Grendel. She states that like Frankenstein and his monster... Fanny is a killjoy (448), and argues that Fanny draws sustenance from her role as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The Subjection of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society and their unequal relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were considered to be inferior to men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be submissive in nature. Deeply influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart Mill s own beliefs, The Subjection of Women was published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature that would not only challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate for different approaches in light of modern times. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is natural to the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties freely Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society had seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in life, when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to believe that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything else. However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the mentality that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. As the mass mysteria got out of hand, thousands of innocent individuals were persecuted. However, the ended with the Scientific Revolution, where the advances in medicine, rise of insurance companies and lawyers made people feel more secure against physical and natural calamities. Although the Reformation divided Europe between Protestant and Catholic, ultimately the persecution of individuals as witches occurred due to religious differences, social stereotypes of women, and economic gain. Over the course of the 15th to 17th centuries, 80% of the persecuted individuals were women. Kramer and Sprenger (Document 3) demonstrates how women were more vulnerable than men because of their femininity, sexual appeal, and weakness to Satan. It isn t odd to see a device which doesn t depend of a cable to receive/transmit a signal or radio waves nowadays. We often see people using smartphones, laptops without requiring any external connection to the LAN, or even our own radios. All of these wouldn t be possible without the existence of Wireless Technology. But, has there really been a whole deal of improvements on this type of technology? • 26. Social Colonialism And Social Darwinism Social Darwinism was a sociological theory that merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and the work of Herbert Spencer, Malthus, and other scientific and sociological theorists to justify imperialism, racism, and conservative economic policies. The overall acceptance of the power of nature in defining human beings developed during the 18th century Enlightenment. Europe s exploration not only brought about immense economic and agricultural growth, but also exposed them to human behavior and life patterns within environments and under circumstances dramatically different than their own (4). The most popular catch phrases of Darwinism, struggle for existence and survival of the fittest , when applied to the life of man in society, suggested that nature would provide that the best competitors in a competitive situation would win, and that this process would lead to continuing improvement (6. Hoft). This misinterpreted sense of superiority engulfed much of society at the time and was used to justify the logistics behind certain actions regarding capitalism, racism, and imperialism. Furthermore, it served as the backbone of some of the most heinous acts imaginable including the genocide and sterilization of certain groups of people. The first business of a colonist is to clear the country of wild beasts, and the most noxious of all wild beasts is the wild man , unknown (87). Society s Unconscious Response Of Health And Illness Society s unconscious response to health and illness An important next step will be to re establish and anchor in trust in ourselves, and there is no better opportunity to test our trust than the fear generated by social beliefs and the media reports surrounding health and dis ease. I would like to share an example of societies belief systems that surround dis ease with the relevant points of a recent therapy session with a client. My client who had been diagnosed with a life threatening dis ease (for the second time) arrived for a Therapy session. She also shared that she really needed to listen to her inner feelings. The family member was horrified, that s it she said you ve given up , you have to Fight this thing , you must Fight it , was her panicked response. This reaction did not surprise me in the slightest; it is a reflection of the unbalanced views we have regarding health, illness and our bodies. Our lives are filled with fear regarding dis ease. Will I be next? The statistics state me, or someone in my family will defiantly be struck by serious illness. The TV adverts appear to be ever increasing, filled with fear of what will happen to your family when you are taken by a dis ease, children are even shown saying goodbye to a parent, I have seen a baby used to highlight a dis ease. These adverts and the frequent messages we are given regarding dis ease, is ironically, very unhealthy. You will notice I am not naming specific dis eases, the names/words carry a vibration and we don t need the vibration of a dis ease and the energy it carries in this book or affecting you as you read. Therefore we can happily leave the names out. Just remember at all times what DIS EASE means, dis ease within the body, it is far less frightening

Discipline is not easy, in fact, it is hard, but the results are what we discipline ourselves for. Celebration of Discipline was a very eye opening and insightful book in many aspects. Foster, the author, describes spiritual discipline as an inward and outward reality. Meaning, the inner and outward attitude of the discipline. The bible uses spiritual discipline to describe fasting, prayer, worship, and even celebration. When Jesus spoke of spiritual discipline, he hardly gives instruction of how to discipline ourselves spiritually. This book book gives more of an outline/guidance to types of disciplines that could help you in your spiritual journey. There are three types of disciplines discussed in this book, along with many sub categories within each type. All these groups are used to help one form a more well rounded spiritual life. The types are inward, outward, and corporate discipline. Inward discipline is a type of discipline that focuses on your inner self/spiritual life. This involves things like praying, meditation, fasting, and studying. Outward disciple is more of what you can do as an individual to discipline yourself spiritually, such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service. These are still self centered but more focused on the outside actions rather than the inside actions. Finally, we have the corporate discipline. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Teachings of Intertwined Texts Intertextuality and Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a work of radical intertextuality, as its very title Frankenstein: or, the modern Prometheus indicates. No other novel of the period is so imbued with the voices of contemporary poets: in her pages Mary Shelley quotes directly from Byron, Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Moreover, the Creature learns language and cultural forms from four major texts: Plutarch s Lives, Milton s Paradise Lost , Goethe s Sorrows of Young Werther, and Volney s Ruins of Empire that, for better or worse, shape his destiny. Werther decides he would rather die than remain miserable, so he commits suicide. As the creature reads this novel, he begins to develop a sense of humanity and emotions as he starts to relate to others. Werther makes the creature question his role in society, and makes him begin to comprehend depression and despair. Many deaths occur throughout the story, including Werther s suicide. All the deaths were due to the loss of companionship, which amplifies the role of nature in Frankenstein and reiterates the importance of relationships. This story calls to question the possibility of the creature taking his own life. As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition. I found myself similar, yet at the same time strangely unlike to the beings concerning whom I read, and to whose conversation I was a listener. I sympathized with, and partly understood them, but I was unformed in mind; I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free ; and there was none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination? Thesis Statement For Universal Education Countless countries benefit from a capitalistic system, but others, like Denmark, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, have a more socialistic giving society, offering free or low cost schools, universal medical care, as well as supportive welfare to citizens. The world would gain from a higher quality of free education. The United States would benefit from educating people free of charge. My belief of a fair universal education offered to everyone, no matter their place of origin, is shaped by experiencing the benefits of free education growing up in Czechoslovakia, by living in the Netherlands, and the United States. As a child growing up under the strict influence of forbidden profits of capitalism and receiving an education free of charge, socialistic ideals shape my worldview. Being born in Czechoslovakia (the Czech Republic since 1993) under a communist, socialist regime with an underlying suppressed democracy, my worldview is based on child s idealistic views of living together with beliefs of equality of all people. Even though the restricted media and the limited amount of imported goods made it easier for the communist government to influence and dictate the mainstream population, it shielded me from the political world, because I was a child. Historical cost accounting fails in terms of not only in relation to reporting current values, but also in terms of projecting future values. INDUSTRY FEEDBACK AND RESPONSE Critics of the US banking institutions have strongly criticised and blamed fair value accounting for aggravating the credit crisis, forcing the institutions to heavily slash the value of their mortgage assets, which resulted in weakening the regulatory capital ratios. The need to mark to market the financial instruments forced many financial institutions to incur large writedowns on the balance sheets. Without the regulatory cash cushion, inter bank and customer lending became severly hampered, thus creating a stagnant credit market. It is easy to make accounting rules the scapegoat when it comes to shifting blames. The reality is that had financial institutions adopted fair value accounting and its disclosure requirements early, they would have seen the writing on the wall. Oliver s mother was unmarried, and although in today ѕ society we wouldn t bat an eyelid at this, she would have been shunned by the everyone. Those ethics should apply both to a person buying something, and a person selling something.
