Literary Devices Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Literary Devices" can pose a considerable challenge for
many writers. This topic demands a comprehensive understanding of various literary elements
and their nuanced applications within different texts. Exploring the intricacies of metaphor,
simile, symbolism, allegory, and other devices requires not only a profound grasp of literary
theory but also the ability to analyze and interpret them within specific literary works.
One must delve into the historical context of each device, understand its evolution, and explore
how it contributes to the overall meaning and impact of a piece of literature. Additionally,
writers need to showcase their analytical skills by dissecting passages, identifying literary
devices, and explaining their significance in the broader narrative or poetic structure.
Moreover, the challenge lies not only in recognizing and explaining these devices but also in
presenting a cohesive and engaging essay that captivates the reader. Balancing between a
scholarly exploration of literary devices and maintaining an accessible writing style requires
finesse and a keen sense of audience awareness.
Furthermore, the task involves extensive research to gather examples from diverse literary genres
and eras, showcasing a breadth of knowledge. It demands careful consideration of how these
devices serve different purposes in various contexts, reflecting the multifaceted nature of
literature.
In conclusion, writing an essay on literary devices is no easy feat. It demands a blend of
academic prowess, critical thinking, and eloquence to convey a deep understanding of the topic.

Daycare centers are used most often by working parents, single mom s and dad s
and sometimes stay at home parents who want some time to themselves a couple
days a week. It s a great alternative if you don t have relatives that are available to
watch your children that are not old enough to go to elementary school. Daycare
centers should provide the emotional and social needs for babies that are crucial
during the first two years of life in developing the learning structures of the brain.

The director is worried because enrollment is down even though there are several
tours of the center by prospective parents every day. She feels like her center
shows well but is worried because sometimes the rooms are not as neat as they
should be and there may be other problems that she s not aware of with her teachers.
As the director/owner, the employees don t really talk to her about what they might
need to make their job easier. It s clear that a training needs analysis needs to be
completed in order to determine why enrollment is low.
The first things that our consultant is going to do are talk to the assistant director
and also take time to talk to the teachers about their jobs and any issues they might
have. During these talks, the consultant will also look at their KSA s which will
help in determining training issues and the need to develop programs. It is also
important that all of the workers have a CDA; Child Development Associate
Credential (CDA) is a nationally recognized entry level credential in the field of
Early Childhood Education. It is issued by the Council for Professional Recognition.
The CDA is designed for those individuals who are working with young children in
all settings. The consultant will research all the employees backgrounds to make
sure that this is on file. Below are some of the topics that all the employee s should
be familiar with:

Burnout Self-Test
I work in a customer contact center with about 13 direct reports, who all speak with
customers throughout the day. Typically customers have an issue that needs
resolving, which is why they called into our customer service department. Dealing
with a number of hostile customers can produce a great amount of stress in a work
environment, especially when these customers are escalated to supervisors for
assistance. However, the ability to handle stress is a technique that has to be
exercised when dealing with customers, because having that control will assist in
retaining customers and providing them quality customer service. My results from
the burnout self test revealed, little sign of burnout here, unless some factors are
particularly severe ( Burnout Test , n.d.). From taking the quiz, I learned that I am
not as overwhelmed as I sometimes feel. I take more control over outcomes than I
feel that I do during stressful times. Sometimes when you are in the mist of stressful
times, you can not really gauge or determine how well you are dealing with
situations, but this test helped me but things into a better perspective. Future steps I
will take to ensure stress does not negatively affect my ability to be a productive and

Michelle Randall (2013) explains that delegating is a great way to ensure that more
tasks get done in less time, and it builds team capacity (Randall, 2013). Delegating
helps relieve some responsibilities in areas that do not require close supervision and
the opportunity to focus on more important tasks. Hopefully through delegating I am
able to coach and develop my direct reports in being quality customer service
associates that are capable of deescalating issues in a non stressful matter. Focusing
on delegating will eventually create a less stressful environment for all and hopefully

Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult
When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone
as an adult, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an
adult means, being able to support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and
most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being able to make your own
decisions without asking a parentor model figure first, is an example of having an
identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will
weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves,
whether it s their own thoughtbranched off of their parents guidance, or it is
completely their own ideaand they explore to see what their views are. On the other
hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an idea or
opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek
guidance. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision
and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is
essentially making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called
foreclosure.
At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest
sister after school. I had to help her with her homework, make dinner for us both
and put her to bed some days; and on top of that do my own homework and get my
chores done. Both of my parents worked full time and I felt that I had the
responsibility as a
Occurrences Of Natural Disaster Or Man-Made Disaster
Final literature review
Introduction
Occurrences of natural disaster or man made disaster have increased this last decade
thus there is a constant need to provide humanitarian support to population affected
by such disasters. Means of communications are vital to manage rescues operation
during down time. However, in worst case scenario most of the infrastructures are
getting damaged. Therefore, it is essential to restore communications within the
disaster zone. This literature review is divided in three main stages, which are the
consequences of a natural disaster, the need of communication and the solutions
available to provide communication to the population.
Disaster consequences
The Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED, 2009) defines a
disaster as an unforeseen event that causes destruction and resulted in a high number
of civilian casualties, that overwhelms local capacity and request international
assistance. Alexander (2014) agrees An emergency is defined as an exceptional event
that exceeds the capacity of normal resources and organization to cope with it .
Impacts of disaster are usually measured by the cost of direct and indirect losses.
What is meant by Indirect losses are losses of employment, temporary unemployed
resulting from business disruption caused by building collapsing (National Research
Council U.S, 1989) thus the impact can last for an indeterminate period of time
(Alexander, 2014b) therefore the cost of Indirect losses caused by natural disasters are
difficult to quantified. Whereas direct losses encompass physical destruction,
casualties, communication loss, transportation, and emergency response. (National
Research Council U.S, 1999). Munich Re (1989, cited in Hoeppe, 2016) states that
cost of losses caused by natural disaster have extremely increased since 1950 mainly
because of population growth and the complexity of infrastructures in modern
societies.
The professor Rahman defines the complex relationship between infrastructures as
infrastructures interdependencies where each node is known as a Critical
Infrastructures. According to Moteff and Parfomak (2004) a CI is a system that if
disrupted can lead to serious issues on the wellbeing of society.
India Becoming By Akash Kapur
Disha, Kanika and Ayesha s presentation on India Becoming by Akash Kapur was a
thorough review of the book. They covered many themes including change,
development, modernity, the culture of violence and by doing so got at the heart of
the book, which showed that India [can] often feel like two nations. The group
discussed some of the negative effects of development in India, one major one being
pollution. According to Kapur, seventy percent of India s surface water is polluted
and half a million deaths a year were attributed to air pollution. This was discussed
in contrast to the positive effects of development that have seen the erosion of the
caste system and allowed women and people of lower castes upward social
mobility. The group was able to highlight some of the effects of development on the
people of India. However, many of their arguments were oversimplified and did not
account for the conditions of the majority of Indians. In addition, many of their
arguments lacked conviction because they were not backed by statistics or
references from outside sources that could have corroborated the fieldwork done by
Kapur. As such, this review will highlight some issues excluded by the presenters
and argue that though India has developed, it has been at the cost of ignoring the
agrarian sector and a massive rise in starvation and poverty.
When talking about India, one often hears of how fast it is growing, how it is
amongst the largest economies in the world and is often
The New Drugs For Glaucoma
Time to time there has been development in new drugs for glaucoma. With these
new drugs comes new benefits and risks. Glaucoma being the second leading cause
of blindness in the world (after cataract) (1) is expected to affect around 11 million
people worldwide by 2020 (1). Most of the affected population are greater than 50
years of age, who are also expected to have other health issues. For a clinician, it
becomes extremely important to understand the potential side effects of the
medications before prescribing it to the patients. These adverse drug reactions can
occur from the drug itself, the preservatives or the vehicle of the drug, and can be
ocular or systemic. Unabsorbed topical ocular medication for glaucomamay drain out
of the eye through naso lacrimal duct and can be absorbed by conjunctiva, nasal
mucosa, oropharynx, and GI mucosa (occasionally) to rise to sufficient levels in the
blood to cause systemic side effect or interact with other drugs. It has been estimated
that roughly 80% of an eye drop can pass through the nasal nasolacrimal duct and get
absorbed into the nasal mucosa and its microvasculature. Considering that these eye
drops are often used in either eyes twice or thrice a day, the systemic implications
can be extremely dangerous. (8)(14)
Ocular therapeutics for Glaucoma:
These include beta blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, alpha 1 and alpha 2
adrenergic agonists, prostaglandin analogues, miotics and combination medications.

Dickinson s Riddle
Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and
interpreted, suggesting perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double
meanings were for her own enjoyment, and all answers if there were any died with
her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s poems is sure to catch
the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital letters, dots,
and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily
Dickinson uses punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems,
contributing to the effect and meaning of her works, such as My Life had stoodп‚ѕa
Loaded Gunп‚ѕ, After great pain, a formal feeling comesп‚ѕ, and Wild Nightsп‚ѕWild
Nights!
Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way,
riddling many of her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of
splinters of thought and sight, often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic
sense of pattern, joined irregularly by dashes (Wilner). Although dashes appear the
most, some works also contain explanation marks. Exclamation marks in Dickinson s
poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting passion and excitement
throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and helps to
draw in her audience.
Dickinson s My Life had stoodп‚ѕ a Loaded Gunп‚ѕ contains en dashes from
beginning to end, giving more meaning
The Legend Of Proserpina s House
Proserpina had left her mother to go explore the forest. This is when a very
breathtaking plant distracted her. It was the most beautiful plant that she had ever
laid eyes on. She decided that her mother would love it, and decided to take it to her.
When she pulled up the plant, it left a gaping hole in the ground and light flooded
into the path she was on. The path happened to be a path that led to Plutos castle.
Pluto had noticed what happened and hastily chased after the girl. When he finally
caught up to her, he inquired her about doing some favors for him around his castle.
Proserpina respectfully disagreed, but Pluto was very unhappy about it. He directed
her to his castle, and offered her a drink from an enchanted stream. Proserpina did not
want to drink from the stream, but she knew if she didn t it would make Pluto even
more unhappy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was in a very dark location, and seemed to have an evil air around it. At the front
door, which had door handles in the shape of lions heads, Pluto ordered his cooks
to prepare a delicious meal for Proserpina, and told them to add some of the water
from the stream into the recipe. Then, he sent her to a room and told her not to
leave. She was forced to stay in the room for days, she was sobbing and crying
most of the time. However, Proserpina finally decided to leave the room and
explore the castle. She was spotted by Pluto, who was angry and asked why she
had left her room. She said all she wanted to do was explore the castle, because
being locked up in that room was horrible. So, Pluto agreed, but warned her not to
wander into the west wing. Proserpina ignored what he said about the west wing, and
continued into it. At that point she was curious about what was there. She noticed
that there are prisoners being held there. They explained to her that they were locked
up because they did not follow Pluto s
Compare And Contrast Jamestown Vs Plymouth
Jamestown vs Plymouth In the 1600 s two different times colonists sailed from
England to America. Both landed on the east coast of America. The first ship
landed in what today is Virginia while the other one landed in Maine. One stuck
together and worked to survive, but the other carried a prisoner and was a free for
all. Both handled coming to the ВЁnew worldВЁ but we learn about both of the
different dates today.
To start off, the colonists of Jamestown left England to make money and become
rich from cash crops a big one being tobacco. They were planning to get to the new
world then return to England with wealth. When they left England and got to land
they had little rations from home and were very hungry. They were helped by... Show

But the Indians seeing themselves thus followed, they again forsook the woods and

Now about the colonies, the colonists from Jamestown were crowded on a ship for
about 7 months and wanted their personal space as soon as they got off the ship. It
was a free for all, a dog eat dog world. No one looked out for anyone it was an
anarchy in some ways. When they constructed the Jamestown fort they made it in a
shape of a triangle in a peninsula. On one side it was the Atlantic ocean and on the
other side was a river. Both the town and river were named after King James I. The
river was not fresh water, it was salt water so they couldn t drink from it . Plymouth
on the other hand all worked together to survive and tell the story of the ВЁnew
landВЁ. They built Plymouth on the coast and worked together.
In the colony of Jamestown, a man named Captain John Smith came to America as a
prisoner and left the colony as soon as he had the chance leaving everyone to fend
for themselves. He never returned to the colony nor wanted to. He lived with the
native Americans and died, but in Plymouth a man named William Bradford led the
colony and survived allot longer.
To conclude, the colonists of Plymouth survived and lived better
Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, Under The Direction

In 1905, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, under the direction of Rev. L. L.
Downing, erected their persistently famous Stonewall Jackson memorial window.
Each Sunday, Fifth Avenue s pastor still preaches from the pulpit with this
picturesque image in the background, denoting the phrase, Let us Cross the River
and Rest in the Shade of the Trees. General Jackson was, of course, well known for
his devout Presbyterian faith. What may be most surprising to those unfamiliar with
Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, however, is that it is a historically black
congregation. As a local historian has explained:
It was to Gen. Jackson that Downing imputed his conversion to Christ. In the

Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to
show issues such as child labor as having been of great concern to more than just
Lingle, a Presbyterian leader that arrived at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911.
Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion, Flynt states that
Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation.
Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes,
however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications,
has been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to
Presbyterianism. He stated:
The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise
to the Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of
leaders, the Southern Church was unable to replace them with men of equal
soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern Church lasted as a sound
denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the liberals in
the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the educational
agencies of the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature.
Still, others, including Darryl G. hart, have suggested that historians focus
Hobby Lobby The Court Reiterated
In Hobby Lobby the Court reiterated its interpretation that a corporation has rights
similar to that of an individual (Citizens United v. FEC), since corporations are
composed of individuals, and thus are due the rights granted in the RFRA. The Court
in Hobby Lobby found that providing contraception, and access to reproductive
healthcare, serves the compelling state interest of public health and welfare. In
parallel, this Court found that ensuring that people have coverage by health care
providers is a compelling state interest. Hobby Lobby correctly applied the test of
strict scrutiny, and required that the mandate be the least restrictive means of
advancing this compelling government interest. This is where the mandate failed
as applied to Hobby Lobby. The Court found the mandate could not be applied to
private corporations in order to require them to provide reproductive healthcare. In
contrast, in the case at hand, the rule prohibiting multiple spouses as beneficiaries
of a health insurance policy is the least restrictive way to advance a compelling
government interest; that being the ability to provide the public with insurance in
order to advance public health and welfare. Therefore, RFRA is not a basis upon
which Mr. Bridges can claim his rights are violated if the insurance does not cover
more than one wife. In conclusion, RFRA is not the basis for requiring health
insurance to cover both Germanotta s and Maraj s claims. Now the Court will decide

Major Life Circumstances
Major life circumstances e.g. a death in the family or moving to a different country.
This will make the individuals life more difficult both emotionally and socially e.g.
a death in the family may leave the child in deep depression and have a direct affect
in their school work. Children may only overcome this when they have the right
support in place for them.
The Young Person: Again from what I have already mentioned above would have
the same effect as a young person. Young person may also go through added major
life events e.g. struggling to build relationships, coming to terms of their sexuality
and get involved with drugs and alcohol etc. This may lead to them getting involved
in the wrong types of relationships and they may form an addiction with drugs and
alcohol. Again young people may only overcome this when they have the right of
support in place for them.
The Parents/Carers: The possible effects of major life events on the parents/carers
would be similar in a way to those young people but from a parent s point of view.
For them to be able to manage this they must be able to deal with any problems of
everyday life. They should also be able to know where to seek help e.g. citizen
advice bureau and dealing with debt. Added problems that may impact on parents
may be financial difficulties and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children, Young People and Parents/Carers. The familywould be affected by all the
previous major life events mentioned and be affected by stress in any of the
various ways. Families depend on their various members being able to come
together and work as a team in order to support one another. The entire families will
be impacted by events e.g. the death of a family member or a redundancy. This may
lead to various degrees of stress on how bad the actual event was and how the family
can overcome the experience and engage the support to help
Russian Fyodor Dostoyevsky Notes From Underground
The novella Notes from Underground describes the life and thoughts of a character
many simply call the Underground Man. This piece, written by Russian Fyodor
Dostoyevsky, is divided into two parts: one solely the Underground Man s thoughts,
and the second the story of an event that occurred in the Underground Man s early
adulthood. The entirety of the novella is centered around the narrator s ideas and
state of mind, which relate to his past and how the Underground Man views his life.
The Underground Man has not appropriately dealt with the experiences from his life,
and because of this his actions and attitude toward life are negatively affected. His
writings depict that the meaning of the text is in his thoughts, which stem from his
life when he was younger.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Business Analysis On Business Communication
Although much associated with business still relies on face to face communication,
technology has taken its place in business to business communication practices as
being reliable, effective, and efficient. Whether discussing a major decision with an
executive level officer, starting a new company in search of product and distribution,
or informing a department that layoffs may occur, the communicationprocess remains
the same. A purpose defines the reason a process begins. The initiator, or the sender,
has an intended message for a specific audience, the receiver. With business to

in which the communication takes place, and the noise that causes distractions...

(About.com, 2011). On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different
product, service, or partnership opportunity means that a decision maker has been
spoken with and an additional appointment may be established so that decision
maker can have more available time to hear what is being pitched. More than
likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact information and that
particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential
business opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over
Internet provider as a less expensive way for a business to have phone services, a
call is made to create a relationship that could potentially provide additional
opportunities. The salesperson acts as the sender with the purpose of selling his
company s products or services. The receiver should be the decision making contact
that had been collected while cold calling. The environment is more than likely a
cubicle to personal office setting and depending on how the day of that decision
maker is going will determine if the noise becomes too distracting. If the message is
delivered successfully, hopefully that salesman will receive positive feedback.
In this particular situation, the message and technology used are appropriate given
the environment and purpose because unless that salesperson makes face to face

Cambodia, Congo, And Jamaica
Case Study: Cambodia, Congo, and Jamaica
Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Jamaica are countries that
gained independence from European powers after World War II. Though located in
different regions of the world, and colonized by different European powers, these
countries experienced social unrest and economic challenges that remain. Key to
understanding these countries is understanding their histories and struggles, which
continue to have significant impact on conditions within these countries today.
Cambodia
Cambodia s history contrasts a glorious past with recent tragedy. Located in Southeast
Asia between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia s history of conflict with its
neighbors and European colonialism has led to distrust and nationalism. Fear of
foreign occupation or being partitioned by its neighbors lingers in the Cambodian
national psychology. Once part of French Indochina, Cambodian gained independence
in 1953 when King Sihanouk convinced France that only complete independence
would undercut the appeal of communism in Cambodia.
The Khmer Empire began approximately 800 CE when King Jayavarman II
subjugated the small warring kingdoms around Tonle Sap Lake and expanded to
cover most of Thailand and Laos. Because of established trade routes, art and culture
were strongly influenced by India. Hinduism was the major religion in addition to
Buddhism, animist, and traditional religions. (Plubins 2013) The Khmer capital of

Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing
According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and
Lakhani, 2013; Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013;
Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009; Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference
between internal and external crowdsourcing can be summarized as follows: i) the
internal crowd(employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be all employees
of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii)
the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation
purposes; and iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote
access capable of participating in a crowdsourcingcontest and vote on the ideas of
others.
Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media
acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t
measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing
forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short
to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes
employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal
crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be
captured. Carlson and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact
has the ability to innovate, and must do so for their company to stay competitive.

Mother Teresa: The Life and Dignity of the Human Person Life and dignity of a
human person is the basis for all Catholic Social Teaching. Mother Teresa embodied
this statement throughout her entire life as she served the poorest of the poor
throughout the world. Mother Teresa built schools to teach, hospitals to cure,
orphanages to love, and hospice homes to comfort. All of these projects were based
on the Catholic Church s proclamation human life is sacred and the dignity of the
human person is the foundation of society. ( ) By establishing Missionaries of Charity
in 1948, which served society s poor and marginalized, Mother Teresa influenced
world leaders by living the social teachings of the Catholic Church. Mother Teresa
grew up in a very loving family that was committed to their Catholic faith. Her
mother always told her children that they should never eat a bite of food without
sharing it with another. Mother Teresa recalls that her mother often invited the poor
of the their town to come and dine with her family. Her mother s commitment to the
needy was deep rooted. She didn t waver from this commitment even after her
husband died leaving her with three young children including Teresa, who was only
eight years old. This family commitment to serve among many experiences in her
homeland of Macedonia is what set the stage for Mother Teresa s life of charity. In

Every bear loves food of any sort. They have an incredible sense of smell so

Misunderstood Heating Fuels
Americans have been using heating oil to keep their homes and offices warm for
decades, but it remains one of the most misunderstood heating fuels. While most
people are familiar with oil, not many know about oil heat or how it compares to
other petroleum products. The type of heating system to use in a person s home is
an important decision for anyone to make, and once it s installed it will neither be
easy nor cheap to modify. For this reason, it is necessary that you know the facts
about oil heat and how to differentiate them from myth. Residents and businesses in

To Kill A Mockingbird Racial Injustice
Harper Lee was an American novelist during the sixties. She is most known for her
best selling novel To Kill a Mockingbird, and her newer release Go Set a
Watchman. Lee helped shaped the way that people felt during the Civil Right s
movement in the sixties, and even the way that people felt in the past few years
about the racial injustices going on in our world. Nelle Harper Lee was born on April
28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabamato Amasa Coleman (A.C) Lee and Francis
Cunningham Finch Lee. Lee was the youngest of four children, and her father was
a lawyer, and her mother was said to have suffered from a type of mental illness,

the manuscript was found and was struggling with numerous health issues, society

Why Identity Politics Creates Barriers For Marginalized...

Many, Out of One: Why Identity Politics Creates Barriers for Marginalized Groups
Identity politics is an undeniable twenty first century paradigm among minority
groups, sparking discourse across political and social spheres. According to
philosopher Cressida Heyes, identity politics is the range of political activity
founded in the shared experiences of injustice of members of certain social groups.
Members of this group assert their distinctiveness, challenging dominant oppressive
characterizations of a white hierarchy in order to gain political support. This paper
will argue that identity politics is a detrimental ideology to the American political
sphere. While identity politics seemingly allows for traditionally marginalized
groups to voice their concerns, it actually serves to further limit minority groups by
ignoring intersectionality and promoting an us against them mentality. The motto of
the United States has always been E. Plurbis Unum, or out of many, one, describing
America as a melding of many cultures and peoples into one identity American.
Recent times, however, show social and political progression, as evidenced by
identity politics, to many, out of one. The origin of the phrase, identity politics can
be traced back as the effects of two social movements in the 1960 s: the Civil Rights
Movement and the Women s Movement. As Professor of Sociology, Joan Mandle
argued, women activists

In Todays Modern World, Stereotype Threats Are Seen
Widely,
In todays modern world, stereotype threats are seen widely, yet are not spoken
about very often. Darnell Rock Reporting is a book published in 1994 by Dean
Myers, which focuses on a seventh grader by the name of Darnell Rock who
attends Oakdale High School. Darnell Rock is a student who is known for being a
troublemaker and spends most of the time at the principal s office. Since he is
known for being a bad kid, people stereotypehim as if that is all he is good for.
Darnell meets a man by the name of Sweeby who is homeless and along with Darnell
Sweeby is also stereotyped. Although both Darnell and Sweeby are stereotyped in a

When Darnell and Mr. Baker are discussing, Mr. Baker states, Can t you spend one
day without getting into trouble? If you can t do anything positive, why are you
coming to school? Darnell then tells Mr. Baker he wants to join the newspaper;
Mr. Baker was shooked (7). This is a great example on how Mr. Baker stereotyped
and looked down on Darnell because he knows that Darnell is no good for doing
anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions Darnell. In chapter
five, Darnell was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong literally
went wrong. He forgot his math book for Mr. Ohrbach s class. Mr. Ohrbach got
angry and stated, It s a good thing your head is screwed on adding or you would
leave that home too (44). However, Darnell did not think that was funny at all
since he had heard it a hundred times and the same people always laughed. Mr.
Ohrback stereotyped him to be an irresponsible person and could never get
anything right. Morever, Sweeby is also a main character in the story that is
negatively stereotyped. Darnell decides to interview Sweeby for his newspaper
article, which is where we get most of the insight on how Sweeby is stereotyped.
Darnell meets Sweeby when he is walking home from school one day, they both
spoke for quite a few, within that talk Darnell finds out that Sweeby knows his dad

Nepal s Effect On India
Background
Nepal s geography has made Nepal economically dependent on India as it is
surrounded on three sides by India and on one (to its north) with the Himalayan range
and the region of Tibet. After the devastating earth quake in Nepal, the country was
hit by another humanitarian crisis this time due to a blockade at a crucial crossing on
the border with India, which halted oil and other essential supplies landlocked Nepal

Nepalese security had requested that it would protect truck drivers entering Nepal
from the Indian border. But Indian custom officials has blocked supplies saying it s
an order from above as in the Indian government. So, those to blame were Madhesi
leaders, Indian government for supporting them and lastly Indian news and media
giving completely biased information.
Effects of the Blockade
Nepal Oil Corporation had instructed fuel stations to stop selling petrol and diesel
to vehicles bearing private registration numbers. The Nepali government was
allowing people to drive only on alternate days and had asked people to use
charcoal and firewood for cooking. It was like going back to the stone age where
daily food had to be cooked in firewood. Only army trucks, and those carrying
medical and essential supplies are being exempted. Efforts were also ongoing to
reopen trading routes with China that had remained blocked because of huge
landslides since the devastating earthquake in April 2015. On 29 September 2015,
Kathmandu Airport the only International Airport in the country issued an advisory
to international airlines to carry extra fuel after suspending refueling facility due to
acute fuel shortage. As a result, many international flights had to been cancelled. In

Blood pressure, which is abbreviated as BP is the force that is placed onto vessel
walls by the blood that it contains. In healthy individuals, BP should be 120/80
mmHg, but recent research has shown that healthy individuals BP should be lower
than 120/80 mmHg. The first number, in this case 120 is known as the systolic
number. The systolic number is known as the amount of pressure placed onto the
vessel wall by bloodduring ventricular contraction. When someone is taking another
persons blood pressure, this is the first sound that the person will hear. This is
because the blood vessel opened up enough to allow blood to begin passing through.
The second number, 80 represents the diastolic number. The diastolic number
represents when the vessel is relaxing and blood is getting through without any extra
force. Also, this number is represented by the last sound an individual hears in their
stethoscope. Aside from BP, heartrate also known as pulserate, is the number of times
a persons heart beats in a minute. (Marieb Hoehn, 2014, pp. 708 710).
Another important concept is mean arterial pressure, which is abbreviated as MAP.
This pressure propels blood to body tissues and in the average pressure that is pushed
onto the walls of arteries by blood. (Marieb Hoehn, 2014, p. 709). MAP can be

Ethical Principles Of The Tuskegee Study

and morals and be able to apply them to every day practice. The Tuskegee study was
an eye opener to many individuals, leading to laws and reconstructed ethical

interesting thing about this release, however, is that although it is the fourth

the franchise. The development, financing, and eventual production of Fury Road
is incredibly interesting because although almost everything went wrong, it still

Additionally, the studio decided that such bleak times called for happier movies,
because of this, Miller decided to work on Happy Feet instead. (Bravin) By 2003,
the Mad Max movie was set to begin filming in Namibia. However, the location was
determined to be a security risk, causing it to be delayed once again. By 2006, Mel
Gibson began to distance himself from the movie, thinking that it

How Does Bruno Mars Use Language In Grenade
As a singer and songwriter, Bruno Mars implements the true meaning of love in his
song, Grenade . Throughout the song, Bruno Mars addresses the sacrifices a guy is
willing to make for a girl. A guy: catching a grenade, jumping in front of a train,
throwing his hand on the blade, taking a bullet straight through his brain captivates
the audience s emotions. The language used allows the audience to better understand
that there are sympathetic guys out there that care so much for a girl. Bruno Mars,
singer songwriter of this song, engages with his emotions about there being guys out
there that are willing to sacrifice their life for a girl by incorporating a melancholic
tone through the coping mechanisms: idiom, hyperbole, and rhyme.

Only one thing, the developing individual will come to love beauty and shun
ugliness even when are still young and cannot understand the reason for so doing
but one will recognize in this Form all that is beautiful. Another image that Plato
uses for the educational process is of a plant witch flourishes in the right conditions
but withers in adverse ones. Possible to say that beauty is defined by and to the
other, is to surround the child with beauty, truth and goodness order to make the
growth of growth of these qualities in its developing self. In reality, the world is not
always beautiful, it is often ugly; and people are not always virtuous, they are often

conception. Plato realizes that the general run of humankind can think and speak.
The allegory of the cave is supposed to explain this in the allegory; Plato likens
people untutored in the Theory of Forms to prisoners chained in a cave, unable to
turn their heads. All people can see is the wall of the cave. Behind them
How Sports Can Help Someone Out Socially
1) Sports have played an important role in my life ever since I was very young.
Because of sports, I am very confident in myself. Although many people believe
sports are just to have fun and stay active, I believe that their influence leaves more
behind. I believe that playing sports can help someone out socially, physically, and
mentally. Participating in sports has completely and utterly transformed me into the
person that I am today.
2) I believe playing sports can help many people throughout their long life and also
through many years of school. Trophies, gold medals, and awards are a few
reasons why you might play a sport, but there is something else that you can also
gain in trying to achieve your goal. All the work you put in for a particular sport
can set you up for success and also can set you up for failure, but it can also leave
you with something that you will remember for the rest of your life.
3) An event that changed my way of life was the world swimming championship in
2011 in Shanghai. I was 15 years old when I competed. Participation in this event
gave me hope that I could fulfill my dream, the dream of all athletes, to participate in
the Olympic Games. After the world swimming championship I was more dedicated
to my swimming and my school. So far, my life has gone the way I hoped it would
and I have accomplished many of the goals that I have set out to achieve.
4) I used to live in small city in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina, called Trebinje.

is often overlooked and even contorted in order to conform with convenience as the
citizens of the town become more desperate. The Visit is both a philosophical
masterpiece and a harrowing tale of conditional morality.

College And College Education
Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree
is worth all of the hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is
better than going to college to get the education required to do a job. The
difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she believes. This is also
shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education required to
do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred
twenty seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high
schooldiploma (Unemployment). Some argue that going to collegeis not required to
get a good well paying job. There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades.
These include jobs like construction, tile masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these
provide services for people that they typically can not do on their own. The contrary
is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well. Some
careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay
well, but the amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these
professions is more than if you were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another
discouraging factor is the cost of a college education compared to a trade school.
Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come nowhere close to the price
of going to a universityor smaller college for several years. Another drawback is

Caroline B. Cooney. I settled on this fiction book not only because I ve read all

thought that now that Ms. Lockwood had Strat s eyes only for on her, she wouldn t

that marriage to someone she didn t love would be better than absolutely no
marriage at all. Mr. Rowwels turned out to be Mathew s murderer and Annie ended
up going back to her own time, in 1995. There, she tells her mother that her father is
cheating on her. Then poor Annie realizes, in the 19th century, Strat is doing the
same thing to Harriet and feels guilty, because it s her fault. So to not interfere with
history, she goes back to the 18th century, kisses Strat then breaks up with him, and
goes back to her own time very heart broken about it.
If I needed to change any part of the story to make it more Hollywood style, it
would be to make some parts of the story a little more intense and dramatic. For
example, I think that Harriet s jealousy of Annie should be emphasized more in the
film. In the film, Harriet should try to do schism things to Annie and Strat s
relationship or cry to Strat s family to convince them to hate
Ideology In Hamlet
Eshan Kemp Mrs. Yuen AP Literature Period 1
On Polonius and Class Ideology
The development of Polonius through his interactions with others serves as an
aspect of Shakespeare s Hamlet particularly suited for a Marxist analysis. While his
pompous and long winded ramblings have served as comic fodder for generations
of readers, a Marxist reading reveals the insidious nature behind the text s contempt
for royal sycophancy. Polonius, who is of a lower class status than the royal family,
and who presumably lives during a feudal era which featured asymmetric
distributions of wealth and power privileging the royalty and their allies, most
probably regales figures of the royal family with circuitous servility to secure his
survival as a member of a subordinate class. However, the text portrays Polonius s
incessantly pompous sycophantic tendencies as reflections of his, and in extension
the noble class s, inner character. Implicit in this portrayal is a classist ideology which
ascribes inherent characteristics to lower classes, using these traits to justify the
differential treatment of the classes.
Hamlet uses Polonius s initial interactions within a domestic setting and the royal
court to establish Polonius s character. When Polonius notarizes Reynaldo to spy on
Laertes, Polonius lauds his method with such rhetorical flourishes as wisdom and
of reach and with windlasses and assays of bias, to ensure that his grand scheme is
not lost on Reynaldo (2.1.61 62). The text chooses to show Polonius strutting such
ornate rhetoric to commend himself, even when there is no one to impress beyond
his own servant, to illustrate how Polonius is by his very nature pompous. When
Polonius subsequently hears Ophelia relay her encounter with a deranged Hamlet,
Polonius s first instinct is to go see the king, rather than to comfort Ophelia beyond
simply saying he s sorry (2.1.114). Polonius s primal instinct to serve his lord reveals
a servile disposition baked into his very being. These intrinsic tendencies are
hyperbolized through Polonius s interaction with the royal family. Upon entering the
court, Polonius immediately professes to hold my duty ... both to my God

In 1997 and 2004, there were 29 33 tropical systems in the Pacific Ocean. Most of
them curve to the north and six of them hit Japan, while the Philippines was being
hit only once in 1997. This year, Japan was hit eight times while the Philippines
were only hit once. There were less hurricanes, and they tended to curve north in El
Nino year. In Atlantic, there were 8 hurricanes formed in 1997. None moved west to
hit Texas or Mexico. In 2004, there were 13 hurricanes and 3 hit Florida. All
Hurricanes made the curve to the north during El Nino. None hit the West Gulf Coast
(Unisys).
In 1999 2001, the La Nina years, there were 16 18 tropical systems formed in the
Atlantic. Two to five tropical systems hit the Western Gulf Coast. In the Pacific,
there were more than 33 tropical systems formed each year, while 5 8 tropical storms
hit the Philippines. There were less systems hitting Japan during El Nino years
(Unisys).

Historical Significance Of The City Of Jerusalem
The city of Jerusalem is vitally important to many of the historical records found in
both Old and New Testaments of the Bible. From Genesis (14:18) to Revelation
(21:10), the Bible is filled with allusions and events related to this city. One simply
cannot read the Bible without reading about Jerusalem! For this reason, it is of great
benefit to further study this wonderfully significant place. Before looking at the
historical significance of Jerusalem, which means foundation of peace (Laney 1988),
it is fitting to look at the geography of this city. At an elevation of 2,490 ft. above
sea level (Wikipedia 2015a) and situated thirty three miles west of the north end of
the Mediterranean Seas and fifteen miles west of the north end of the Dead Sea
(Laney 1988), Jerusalem is located in the Judaean Mountains in modern day
Palestine. Nestled amongst three valleys (the Kidron Valley, Hinnom Valley, and
Tyropoeon Valley), the city was well protected from enemy invaders from all
directions but the north. This, among other reasons, was likely why its location was
so desirable in antiquity. The climate of Jerusalem is pleasant , with average high
temperatures around 74В° F and average low temperatures around 48В° F (Laney
1988). With its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, the city is often characterized by
a slight sea breeze and sunshine. Jerusalem receives an average of twenty two inches
of precipitation annually, with snow being quite rare (Wikipedia 2015a). Another

Arguments Against Involuntary Commitment
Although there are many people who support involuntary commitment, there are also
those who do not. Despite all of the support for involuntary commitment of
dangerous, mentally disturbed individuals; there will always be people in opposition
to this practice. In America especially, it is currently a very controversial topic. Those
against involuntary commitment of the mentally disordered argue that it is an
extraordinary exercise of paternalism and the police power of the state (Morse 58).
More often than not, lawyers are the on the opposing side. This is because they are
aware of the actual laws regarding the subject. An argument that lawyers often present
is that involuntary commitment is a violation of personal rights. They argue that...

Unlike most other mental health advocacy organizations in the world, MindFreedom
is financially independent from pharmaceutical companies, governments, religions,
and mental health systems (MindFreedom Fighting Back Against Human Rights
Abuses in the Mental Health System 1). This organization is comprised of those who
have experienced involuntary psychiatric treatment; as well as their family members
and allies. The focus of this group is on human rights violations. Although their
arguments and objectives address involuntary commitment, they are not advocating
for the violent population. They believe that all people possess the same rights in
regards to mental health care, and that those rights include the ability to decline
psychiatric treatment. However, their website also states that There can be no doubt,
to reiterate, that people in mental distress and crisis can present challenges for those
around them... (MindFreedom Fighting Back Against Human Rights Abuses in the
Mental Health System 3). The argument of this group is focused heavily on the
medication aspect of treatment. However, involuntary commitment can be performed
without forcing a patient to take medication. Often, medication is prescribed to help
the patient, though it is not a required aspect of treatment (Treatment Settings
Triton s Role In The Novel Reef By Romesh Gunesekera
Introduction
Romesh Gunesekera; the author of the novel Reef (1994), begins the story with a
young boy by the name of Triton, entering Mr Salgado s household as a Kolla ,
meaning boy, and starting to become weary of himself and his own capabilities.
Throughout the novel, Triton faces certain hardships, but quickly learns to overcome
them as he begins to develop a sense of responsibility and independence within the
household. Mr Salgado becomes the centre of Triton s world and he is someone that
Triton looks up to and wants to become. However, everything changes when Miss
Nili becomes the central aspect of Mr Salgado s life and changes the relationships
within the household, allowing Triton to see things from a new perspective.
Throughout the novel we see how Triton plays the role of an Outsider as well as
Insider within the home and how he starts becoming very observant with regards to
Miss Nili. In this essay I will discuss how Triton s role in Mister Salgado s household
alters and becomes a turning point in the novel.

Triton shows this by saying I read all Mister Salgado s books, one by one, over the
years. This quote suggests that Triton would always put Mr Salgado on a pedestal
and he is someone that he will always look up to because Mr Salgado played a big
part in shaping Triton s life and helping him to become the person that he is now. At
a later stage in the novel, Triton even suggests that they should open up a restaurant
in London. This indicates that he does not want to let go of the relationship he has
with Mr Salgado. Therefore he would rather be a servant in Mr Salgado s household
all over again than be an empowered restaurant owner without Mr Salgado in his
A Brief Note On The Aviation Safety Agency
With ICAO s leading, aviation safety has been developed internationally. As
mentioned before, FAA and ICAO worked together to provide safer operations in
the airports globally. ICAO published their Safety Management Manual(SMM) for
providing acceptable safety performance throughout the world. Civil aviation
authorities get benefit out of these manuals and shared data. SMS requirements
provided by ICAO paved a path for every aviation organization to develop safety
policies and safety procedures. In February 2009 European Aviation Safety
Agency(EASA) met with FAA, ICAO and Transport Canada Civil
Aviation(TCCA). The meeting was set to spread SMS throughout Europe and
America. Participants agreed on sharing SMS knowledge and established Safety
Management International Collaboration Group(SM ICG). SM ICG was set to
meet semiannually and also with teleconferences to develop SMS with projects and
research groups. Each organization works voluntarily for collaboration and
affiliation to spread SMS knowledge all over the world. During establishment of
SM ICG, it is agreed that there would be interference with stakeholders in the
aviation industry. It is also agreed that CAST and ECAST which is European
Commercial Aviation Safety Team would work collaboratively for more reliable data
sharing. The current core membership of the SM ICG includes the Aviation Safety
and Security Agency (AESA) of Spain, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC)
of Brazil, the Civil Aviation Authority of
The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa Essay
The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa
In August 1948, at the age of 38, Mother Teresa decided to adventure into the poorest
neighborhoods of Calcutta, India, in order to live out her utopian dream by providing
food, care, education, and shelter for the poor. Feeding people the Word of God;
clothing them with dignity; educating them with knowledge, peace, truth, justice and
love; nursing the mind and spirit; and sheltering them with a heart that understands. (
servants ) I believe that a utopian vision is any vision that follows natural law, creates
happiness in the community, and is feasible. Mother Teresas visions are, in fact,
effective utopian visions. Mother Teresa s visions included living a simple life,
serving the poorest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her intentions more than her actions should be looked at and they were to love and
treat everyone equally. When Mother Teresa looked into the eyes of those she
literally pulled out of the gutter, she saw Jesus Christ. She said, They are Jesus.
Everyone is Jesus in a distressing disguise. ( servant )
Mother Teresa teaches that the best way to live a simple life is by giving up all
you have and joining those that suffer physically and financially. She says, When
all you got is all you ve got, all that s left is to be yourself and you can only receive.
And that, in a sense, is why the poor are blessed, because they know what really
matters . (M.T. Simple) If a simple life helps one to know yourself better than it can
also help you discover the natural law. (M.T. Simple) Poverty seems to me to
degrade a sense of self, causing the poor person to feel worthless and incapable.
Poverty can be beautiful in that you are not hiding behind someone and all you
can do is receive, but I think it is important not to mystify poverty like it is so
glorious when really it is not. Mother Teresa says, Poverty is a wonderful gift
because it gives us freedom it means we have fewer obstacles to God. (M.T. Simple)

The Major Discoveries of Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was born as a premature child on December 25, 1642. His father died
three months before his birth. His mother got remarried, and didn t give much
attention to him, so she gave Isaac to his grandparents which made Isaac grow to
dislike his step father. Isaac went to school at The King s School, Grantham when
he was twelve to about seventeen, at which he learned only latin. His mother took
him out of school and tried to make him a farmer, but he hated it. His mother put
him back in school for him to complete his education, soon after being put back in
school he became one of the top students. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge in
June 1661. He earned his bachelor s degree at Cambridge in 1665, then the
university closed for two years. He then moved to Woolsthrope, and there he made
some contributions to science such as: his method of fluxions for math (calculus), his
theory for lightand color , the problem for planetary motion which led to his
Principia that came out in 1687. When he moved back to Cambridge he was elected
as a minor fellow, and in the next year he became senior fellow while he earned his
master of arts degree. In 1678 his mother died, and he went through a rough time. He
sort of closed everyone out, and started doing research on Alchemy in which he found
out about some of the forces of nature. By putting this and mathematics together he
changed the mechanical philosophy by adding gravitational force. In 1666 he
watched an
Panic ! At The Disco (P ! ATD)
Panic! At the Disco Panic! At the Disco (P!ATD) is a pop punk rock band that
consists of the lead singer and face of the group, Brendon Urie, and several
unnamed/unpopular guitarists and drummers. The biggest competitor for P!ATD
is the other main stream pop punk rock band called Fall Out Boy (FOB) which
consists of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley. Although
P!ATD and FOB have similar musical styles, the different music videos each group
presents, the varying tunes and lyrics, and disparate stage presence during live
concerts, is why I lean toward P!ATD as my favorite overall band, with FOB
falling just behind it. The themes and theatrics behind P!ATD music videos are
superior to FOB music videos. The themes P!ATD choose are deep and meaningful
and at a first glance, doesn t even seem to relate to the song but once you start
looking closer, you start to see the hidden connections.... Show more content on

One of my favorites lyrics from P!ATD song, Don t Threaten Me With A Good
Time, is Memories tend to just pop up/Drunk pre meds and some rubber gloves
/Five thousand people with designer drugs/Don t think I ll ever get enough. The
first time I heard this part of the song, I surprisingly started laughing out loud in
public (I m a pre med student). Ever since then, I became a fan of P!ATD and I can
proudly say that I know the lyrics to 80% of their songs. FOB lyrics are catchy but
not as comedic and unique as I would like. For example, in their song My Song
Knows What You Did in the Dark, the chorus is I m a young lover s rage/Gonna
need a spark to ignite/My song knows what you did in the dark/So light em up up
up..., the lyrics are somewhat predictable and not that memorable as the lyrics used
in P!ATD songs. Because of the lyrics and tune that P!ATD use, I find myself looking
more forward to listening to P!ATD songs because it s easier for me to sing along to

Typically customers have an issue that needs resolving, which is why they called into our customer service department. Dealing with a number of hostile customers can produce a great amount of stress in a work environment, especially when these customers are escalated to supervisors for assistance. However, the ability to handle stress is a technique that has to be exercised when dealing with customers, because having that control will assist in retaining customers and providing them quality customer service. My results from the burnout self test revealed, little sign of burnout here, unless some factors are particularly severe ( Burnout Test , n.d.). From taking the quiz, I learned that I am not as overwhelmed as I sometimes feel. I take more control over outcomes than I feel that I do during stressful times. • 5. Persuasive Essay On Being An Adult When do you actually become an adult? There are legal terms that qualify someone as an adult, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they act like one. I think being an adult means, being able to support yourself; as in having a steady paying job, and most importantly being accountable to yourself. Being able to make your own decisions without asking a parentor model figure first, is an example of having an identity status of a moratorium. One with this type of mindset as a young adult, will weigh their options and consider their values and what they believe themselves, whether it s their own thoughtbranched off of their parents guidance, or it is completely their own ideaand they explore to see what their views are. On the other hand, for some, they rely on their parents approval, they may have an idea or opinion about a topic, but they will ask a parent or model figure in their life to seek guidance. The young adult wants the security of having the approval of a decision and being told what to do and pointed what direction to go towards. This is essentially making the decision for them. This type of identity status if called foreclosure. At a very young age, I was given the responsibility to take care of my youngest sister after school. I had to help her with her homework, make dinner for us both and put her to bed some days; and on top of that do my own homework and get my chores done. Both of my parents worked full time and I felt that I had the responsibility as a
  • 6. Occurrences Of Natural Disaster Or Man-Made Disaster Final literature review Introduction Occurrences of natural disaster or man made disaster have increased this last decade thus there is a constant need to provide humanitarian support to population affected by such disasters. Means of communications are vital to manage rescues operation during down time. However, in worst case scenario most of the infrastructures are getting damaged. Therefore, it is essential to restore communications within the disaster zone. This literature review is divided in three main stages, which are the consequences of a natural disaster, the need of communication and the solutions available to provide communication to the population. Disaster consequences The Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED, 2009) defines a disaster as an unforeseen event that causes destruction and resulted in a high number of civilian casualties, that overwhelms local capacity and request international assistance. Alexander (2014) agrees An emergency is defined as an exceptional event that exceeds the capacity of normal resources and organization to cope with it . Impacts of disaster are usually measured by the cost of direct and indirect losses. What is meant by Indirect losses are losses of employment, temporary unemployed resulting from business disruption caused by building collapsing (National Research Council U.S, 1989) thus the impact can last for an indeterminate period of time (Alexander, 2014b) therefore the cost of Indirect losses caused by natural disasters are difficult to quantified. Whereas direct losses encompass physical destruction, casualties, communication loss, transportation, and emergency response. (National Research Council U.S, 1999). Munich Re (1989, cited in Hoeppe, 2016) states that cost of losses caused by natural disaster have extremely increased since 1950 mainly because of population growth and the complexity of infrastructures in modern societies. The professor Rahman defines the complex relationship between infrastructures as infrastructures interdependencies where each node is known as a Critical Infrastructures. According to Moteff and Parfomak (2004) a CI is a system that if disrupted can lead to serious issues on the wellbeing of society.

They covered many themes including change, development, modernity, the culture of violence and by doing so got at the heart of the book, which showed that India [can] often feel like two nations. The group discussed some of the negative effects of development in India, one major one being pollution. According to Kapur, seventy percent of India s surface water is polluted and half a million deaths a year were attributed to air pollution. This was discussed in contrast to the positive effects of development that have seen the erosion of the caste system and allowed women and people of lower castes upward social mobility. The group was able to highlight some of the effects of development on the people of India. However, many of their arguments were oversimplified and did not account for the conditions of the majority of Indians. In addition, many of their arguments lacked conviction because they were not backed by statistics or references from outside sources that could have corroborated the fieldwork done by Kapur. As such, this review will highlight some issues excluded by the presenters and argue that though India has developed, it has been at the cost of ignoring the agrarian sector and a massive rise in starvation and poverty. When talking about India, one often hears of how fast it is growing, how it is amongst the largest economies in the world and is often
  • 8. The New Drugs For Glaucoma Time to time there has been development in new drugs for glaucoma. With these new drugs comes new benefits and risks. Glaucoma being the second leading cause of blindness in the world (after cataract) (1) is expected to affect around 11 million people worldwide by 2020 (1). Most of the affected population are greater than 50 years of age, who are also expected to have other health issues. For a clinician, it becomes extremely important to understand the potential side effects of the medications before prescribing it to the patients. These adverse drug reactions can occur from the drug itself, the preservatives or the vehicle of the drug, and can be ocular or systemic. Unabsorbed topical ocular medication for glaucomamay drain out of the eye through naso lacrimal duct and can be absorbed by conjunctiva, nasal mucosa, oropharynx, and GI mucosa (occasionally) to rise to sufficient levels in the blood to cause systemic side effect or interact with other drugs. It has been estimated that roughly 80% of an eye drop can pass through the nasal nasolacrimal duct and get absorbed into the nasal mucosa and its microvasculature. Considering that these eye drops are often used in either eyes twice or thrice a day, the systemic implications can be extremely dangerous. Emily Dickinson Punctuation Katie Holcomb ENG 102 Ballinger 25 July 2017 Dickinson s Riddle Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and interpreted, suggesting perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double meanings were for her own enjoyment, and all answers if there were any died with her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s poems is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital letters, dots, and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily Dickinson uses punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect and meaning of her works, such as My Life had stoodп‚ѕa Loaded Gunп‚ѕ, After great pain, a formal feeling comesп‚ѕ, and Wild Nightsп‚ѕWild Nights! Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way, riddling many of her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of splinters of thought and sight, often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic sense of pattern, joined irregularly by dashes (Wilner). Although dashes appear the most, some works also contain explanation marks. Exclamation marks in Dickinson s poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting passion and excitement throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and helps to draw in her audience. Dickinson s My Life had stoodп‚ѕ a Loaded Gunп‚ѕ contains en dashes from beginning to end, giving more meaning

It was the most beautiful plant that she had ever laid eyes on. She decided that her mother would love it, and decided to take it to her. When she pulled up the plant, it left a gaping hole in the ground and light flooded into the path she was on. The path happened to be a path that led to Plutos castle. Pluto had noticed what happened and hastily chased after the girl. When he finally caught up to her, he inquired her about doing some favors for him around his castle. Proserpina respectfully disagreed, but Pluto was very unhappy about it. He directed her to his castle, and offered her a drink from an enchanted stream. Then, he sent her to a room and told her not to leave. She was forced to stay in the room for days, she was sobbing and crying most of the time. However, Proserpina finally decided to leave the room and explore the castle. She was spotted by Pluto, who was angry and asked why she had left her room. She said all she wanted to do was explore the castle, because being locked up in that room was horrible. So, Pluto agreed, but warned her not to wander into the west wing. Proserpina ignored what he said about the west wing, and continued into it. At that point she was curious about what was there. She noticed that there are prisoners being held there. They explained to her that they were locked up because they did not follow Pluto s

General Jackson was, of course, well known for his devout Presbyterian faith. Flynt s work shows special interest in one man, Walter Lingle, but he attempted to show issues such as child labor as having been of great concern to more than just Lingle, a Presbyterian leader that arrived at Union Seminary in Richmond by 1911. Shortly before Lingle s entrance into the Old Dominion, Flynt states that Presbyterians had clearly opted for a mixture of spiritual and educational salvation. Other writers of Presbyterian history have not been so interested in such themes, however. Don K. Clements, speaking about much broader chronological implications, has been especially critical of those who adopted a more progressive stance to Presbyterianism. He stated: The Southern Church saw herself as holding the Old School position, which gave rise to the Southern Presbyterian distinctives. With the passing of the first generation of leaders, the Southern Church was unable to replace them with men of equal soundness and stature. The result is that the Southern Church lasted as a sound denomination for seventy or eighty years, and then was taken over by the liberals in the church. This was done very largely through the capturing of the educational agencies of the church, the seminaries, the colleges, the publications and literature. Still, others, including Darryl G. hart, have suggested that historians focus
  • 13. Hobby Lobby The Court Reiterated In Hobby Lobby the Court reiterated its interpretation that a corporation has rights similar to that of an individual (Citizens United v. FEC), since corporations are composed of individuals, and thus are due the rights granted in the RFRA. The Court in Hobby Lobby found that providing contraception, and access to reproductive healthcare, serves the compelling state interest of public health and welfare. In parallel, this Court found that ensuring that people have coverage by health care providers is a compelling state interest. Hobby Lobby correctly applied the test of strict scrutiny, and required that the mandate be the least restrictive means of advancing this compelling government interest. This is where the mandate failed as applied to Hobby Lobby. The Court found the mandate could not be applied to private corporations in order to require them to provide reproductive healthcare. In contrast, in the case at hand, the rule prohibiting multiple spouses as beneficiaries of a health insurance policy is the least restrictive way to advance a compelling government interest; that being the ability to provide the public with insurance in order to advance public health and welfare. Therefore, RFRA is not a basis upon which Mr. Bridges can claim his rights are violated if the insurance does not cover more than one wife. In conclusion, RFRA is not the basis for requiring health insurance to cover both Germanotta s and Maraj s claims. Now the Court will decide whether

Cambodia, Congo, And Jamaica Case Study: Cambodia, Congo, and Jamaica Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Jamaica are countries that gained independence from European powers after World War II. Though located in different regions of the world, and colonized by different European powers, these countries experienced social unrest and economic challenges that remain. Key to understanding these countries is understanding their histories and struggles, which continue to have significant impact on conditions within these countries today. Cambodia Cambodia s history contrasts a glorious past with recent tragedy. Located in Southeast Asia between Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodia s history of conflict with its neighbors and European colonialism has led to distrust and nationalism. Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be captured. Jacqueline Campos Professor Jeffries 7 October 2016 AMST 101 Many, Out of One: Why Identity Politics Creates Barriers for Marginalized Groups Identity politics is an undeniable twenty first century paradigm among minority groups, sparking discourse across political and social spheres. According to philosopher Cressida Heyes, identity politics is the range of political activity founded in the shared experiences of injustice of members of certain social groups. Members of this group assert their distinctiveness, challenging dominant oppressive characterizations of a white hierarchy in order to gain political support. This paper will argue that identity politics is a detrimental ideology to the American political sphere. While identity politics seemingly allows for traditionally marginalized groups to voice their concerns, it actually serves to further limit minority groups by ignoring intersectionality and promoting an us against them mentality. The motto of the United States has always been E. Plurbis Unum, or out of many, one, describing America as a melding of many cultures and peoples into one identity American. Recent times, however, show social and political progression, as evidenced by identity politics, to many, out of one. The origin of the phrase, identity politics can be traced back as the effects of two social movements in the 1960 s: the Civil Rights Movement and the Women s Movement. As Professor of Sociology, Joan Mandle argued, women activists

This is a great example on how Mr. Baker stereotyped and looked down on Darnell because he knows that Darnell is no good for doing anything else but getting in trouble which is why he questions Darnell. In chapter five, Darnell was having a bad day and everything that could go wrong literally went wrong. He forgot his math book for Mr. Ohrbach s class. The first number, in this case 120 is known as the systolic number. The systolic number is known as the amount of pressure placed onto the vessel wall by bloodduring ventricular contraction. • 38. College And College Education Today people disagree about whether going to college and getting a college degree is worth all of the hassle. To some entering the workforce out of high school is better than going to college to get the education required to do a job. The difference is in how someone was raised and what he or she believes. This is also shown in what kind of career that someone wants to do and the education required to do that job. Statistics show that people with an associates degree make one hundred twenty seven dollars more in median weekly earnings than someone with a high schooldiploma (Unemployment). Some argue that going to collegeis not required to get a good well paying job. There is truth to this argument in the form of the trades. These include jobs like construction, tile masons, and plumbers. Jobs such as these provide services for people that they typically can not do on their own. The contrary is also true. People can get a well paying job by going to college as well. Some careers from here are a graphic designer, an attorney, or a doctor. These jobs pay well, but the amount of years required to attain the certification to work in these professions is more than if you were to go to a trade school and learn a trade. Another discouraging factor is the cost of a college education compared to a trade school. Trade schools can be several thousands of dollars but come nowhere close to the price of going to a universityor smaller college for several years. Another drawback is

  • 40. Ideology In Hamlet Eshan Kemp Mrs. Yuen AP Literature Period 1 On Polonius and Class Ideology The development of Polonius through his interactions with others serves as an aspect of Shakespeare s Hamlet particularly suited for a Marxist analysis. While his pompous and long winded ramblings have served as comic fodder for generations of readers, a Marxist reading reveals the insidious nature behind the text s contempt for royal sycophancy. Polonius, who is of a lower class status than the royal family, and who presumably lives during a feudal era which featured asymmetric distributions of wealth and power privileging the royalty and their allies, most probably regales figures of the royal family with circuitous servility to secure his survival as a member of a subordinate class. However, the text portrays Polonius s incessantly pompous sycophantic tendencies as reflections of his, and in extension the noble class s, inner character. Implicit in this portrayal is a classist ideology which ascribes inherent characteristics to lower classes, using these traits to justify the differential treatment of the classes. Hamlet uses Polonius s initial interactions within a domestic setting and the royal court to establish Polonius s character. When Polonius notarizes Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, Polonius lauds his method with such rhetorical flourishes as wisdom and of reach and with windlasses and assays of bias, to ensure that his grand scheme is not lost on Reynaldo (2.1.61 62). The text chooses to show Polonius strutting such ornate rhetoric to commend himself, even when there is no one to impress beyond his own servant, to illustrate how Polonius is by his very nature pompous. When Polonius subsequently hears Ophelia relay her encounter with a deranged Hamlet, Polonius s first instinct is to go see the king, rather than to comfort Ophelia beyond simply saying he s sorry (2.1.114). Polonius s primal instinct to serve his lord reveals a servile disposition baked into his very being. These intrinsic tendencies are hyperbolized through Polonius s interaction with the royal family. Upon entering the court, Polonius immediately professes to hold my duty ... both to my God

For this reason, it is of great benefit to further study this wonderfully significant place. Before looking at the historical significance of Jerusalem, which means foundation of peace (Laney 1988), it is fitting to look at the geography of this city. At an elevation of 2,490 ft. above sea level (Wikipedia 2015a) and situated thirty three miles west of the north end of the Mediterranean Seas and fifteen miles west of the north end of the Dead Sea (Laney 1988), Jerusalem is located in the Judaean Mountains in modern day Palestine. This, among other reasons, was likely why its location was so desirable in antiquity. More often than not, lawyers are the on the opposing side. This is because they are aware of the actual laws regarding the subject. An argument that lawyers often present is that involuntary commitment is a violation of personal rights. They argue that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike most other mental health advocacy organizations in the world, MindFreedom is financially independent from pharmaceutical companies, governments, religions, and mental health systems (MindFreedom Fighting Back Against Human Rights Abuses in the Mental Health System 1). This organization is comprised of those who have experienced involuntary psychiatric treatment; as well as their family members and allies. The focus of this group is on human rights violations. Although their arguments and objectives address involuntary commitment, they are not advocating for the violent population. They believe that all people possess the same rights in regards to mental health care, and that those rights include the ability to decline psychiatric treatment. However, their website also states that There can be no doubt, to reiterate, that people in mental distress and crisis can present challenges for those around them... (MindFreedom Fighting Back Against Human Rights Abuses in the Mental Health System 3). The argument of this group is focused heavily on the medication aspect of treatment. However, involuntary commitment can be performed without forcing a patient to take medication. Often, medication is prescribed to help the patient, though it is not a required aspect of treatment (Treatment Settings

Triton s Role In The Novel Reef By Romesh Gunesekera Introduction Romesh Gunesekera; the author of the novel Reef (1994), begins the story with a young boy by the name of Triton, entering Mr Salgado s household as a Kolla , meaning boy, and starting to become weary of himself and his own capabilities. Throughout the novel, Triton faces certain hardships, but quickly learns to overcome them as he begins to develop a sense of responsibility and independence within the household. Mr Salgado becomes the centre of Triton s world and he is someone that Triton looks up to and wants to become. However, everything changes when Miss Nili becomes the central aspect of Mr Salgado s life and changes the relationships within the household, allowing Triton to see things from a new perspective. Throughout the novel we see how Triton plays the role of an Outsider as well as Insider within the home and how he starts becoming very observant with regards to Miss Nili. In this essay I will discuss how Triton s role in Mister Salgado s household alters and becomes a turning point in the novel. Body Outsider: Triton is an outsider within the household and becomes an entity which is non existent to Mr Salgado and Miss Nili. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Triton shows this by saying I read all Mister Salgado s books, one by one, over the years. This quote suggests that Triton would always put Mr Salgado on a pedestal and he is someone that he will always look up to because Mr Salgado played a big part in shaping Triton s life and helping him to become the person that he is now. At a later stage in the novel, Triton even suggests that they should open up a restaurant in London. This indicates that he does not want to let go of the relationship he has with Mr Salgado. Therefore he would rather be a servant in Mr Salgado s household all over again than be an empowered restaurant owner without Mr Salgado in his
  • 45. A Brief Note On The Aviation Safety Agency With ICAO s leading, aviation safety has been developed internationally. As mentioned before, FAA and ICAO worked together to provide safer operations in the airports globally. ICAO published their Safety Management Manual(SMM) for providing acceptable safety performance throughout the world. Civil aviation authorities get benefit out of these manuals and shared data. SMS requirements provided by ICAO paved a path for every aviation organization to develop safety policies and safety procedures. In February 2009 European Aviation Safety Agency(EASA) met with FAA, ICAO and Transport Canada Civil Aviation(TCCA). The meeting was set to spread SMS throughout Europe and America. Participants agreed on sharing SMS knowledge and established Safety Management International Collaboration Group(SM ICG). SM ICG was set to meet semiannually and also with teleconferences to develop SMS with projects and research groups. Each organization works voluntarily for collaboration and affiliation to spread SMS knowledge all over the world. During establishment of SM ICG, it is agreed that there would be interference with stakeholders in the aviation industry. It is also agreed that CAST and ECAST which is European Commercial Aviation Safety Team would work collaboratively for more reliable data sharing. The current core membership of the SM ICG includes the Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA) of Spain, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) of Brazil, the Civil Aviation Authority of
  • 46. The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa Essay The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa In August 1948, at the age of 38, Mother Teresa decided to adventure into the poorest neighborhoods of Calcutta, India, in order to live out her utopian dream by providing food, care, education, and shelter for the poor. Feeding people the Word of God; clothing them with dignity; educating them with knowledge, peace, truth, justice and love; nursing the mind and spirit; and sheltering them with a heart that understands. ( servants ) I believe that a utopian vision is any vision that follows natural law, creates happiness in the community, and is feasible. Mother Teresas visions are, in fact, effective utopian visions. Mother Teresa s visions included living a simple life, serving the poorest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her intentions more than her actions should be looked at and they were to love and treat everyone equally. When Mother Teresa looked into the eyes of those she literally pulled out of the gutter, she saw Jesus Christ. She said, They are Jesus. Everyone is Jesus in a distressing disguise. ( servant ) Mother Teresa teaches that the best way to live a simple life is by giving up all you have and joining those that suffer physically and financially. She says, When all you got is all you ve got, all that s left is to be yourself and you can only receive. And that, in a sense, is why the poor are blessed, because they know what really matters . (M.T. Simple) If a simple life helps one to know yourself better than it can also help you discover the natural law. (M.T. Simple) Poverty seems to me to degrade a sense of self, causing the poor person to feel worthless and incapable. Poverty can be beautiful in that you are not hiding behind someone and all you can do is receive, but I think it is important not to mystify poverty like it is so glorious when really it is not. Mother Teresa says, Poverty is a wonderful gift because it gives us freedom it means we have fewer obstacles to God. (M.T. Simple) I think education gives us
  • 47. The Major Discoveries of Isaac Newton Isaac Newton was born as a premature child on December 25, 1642. His father died three months before his birth. His mother got remarried, and didn t give much attention to him, so she gave Isaac to his grandparents which made Isaac grow to dislike his step father. Isaac went to school at The King s School, Grantham when he was twelve to about seventeen, at which he learned only latin. His mother took him out of school and tried to make him a farmer, but he hated it. His mother put him back in school for him to complete his education, soon after being put back in school he became one of the top students. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge in June 1661. He earned his bachelor s degree at Cambridge in 1665, then the university closed for two years. He then moved to Woolsthrope, and there he made some contributions to science such as: his method of fluxions for math (calculus), his theory for lightand color , the problem for planetary motion which led to his Principia that came out in 1687. When he moved back to Cambridge he was elected as a minor fellow, and in the next year he became senior fellow while he earned his master of arts degree. In 1678 his mother died, and he went through a rough time. He sort of closed everyone out, and started doing research on Alchemy in which he found out about some of the forces of nature. By putting this and mathematics together he changed the mechanical philosophy by adding gravitational force. In 1666 he watched an

At the Disco (P!ATD) is a pop punk rock band that consists of the lead singer and face of the group, Brendon Urie, and several unnamed/unpopular guitarists and drummers. The biggest competitor for P!ATD is the other main stream pop punk rock band called Fall Out Boy (FOB) which consists of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley. Although P!ATD and FOB have similar musical styles, the different music videos each group presents, the varying tunes and lyrics, and disparate stage presence during live concerts, is why I lean toward P!ATD as my favorite overall band, with FOB falling just behind it. The themes and theatrics behind P!ATD music videos are superior to FOB music videos. The themes P!ATD choose are deep and meaningful and at a first glance, doesn t even seem to relate to the song but once you start looking closer, you start to see the hidden connections.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of my favorites lyrics from P!ATD song, Don t Threaten Me With A Good Time, is Memories tend to just pop up/Drunk pre meds and some rubber gloves /Five thousand people with designer drugs/Don t think I ll ever get enough. The first time I heard this part of the song, I surprisingly started laughing out loud in public (I m a pre med student). Ever since then, I became a fan of P!ATD and I can proudly say that I know the lyrics to 80% of their songs. FOB lyrics are catchy but not as comedic and unique as I would like. For example, in their song My Song Knows What You Did in the Dark, the chorus is I m a young lover s rage/Gonna need a spark to ignite/My song knows what you did in the dark/So light em up up up..., the lyrics are somewhat predictable and not that memorable as the lyrics used in P!ATD songs. Because of the lyrics and tune that P!ATD use, I find myself looking more forward to listening to P!ATD songs because it s easier for me to sing along to
