These two pieces of literature describe the characteristics and actions of a blue heron, both aiming

Organization is a key element in Frazier s and Oliver s work, as it works directly to set the tone,
as well as acting as a symbol of nature. Charles Frazier writes in long, descriptive sentences and

relaxing, peaceful tone and feel to the story. This tone reflects on the symbolic part of structure;...
Metaphoric language is used in both works to establish tone, but the approaches differ. In Cold
Mountain, Frazier uses similes to bring emphasis on different aspects of nature. For instance, the
author describes the heron s legs and wings as black as the river. This is to continue the smooth,
even tone of the passage and establish that there is a continuous circle, spawning from nature and
leading right back to nature. Relating the heron to another awe inspiring aspect of nature simply
elevates its divinity. Personification is also used in this passage to give the paragraphs an ironic
tone. When Frazier describes the heron as look[ing] high as a man in the slant light with its long
shadow blown out across the water , he establishes a tone of irony. The heron is mocking mankind,
who stands in front of nature (and supposedly above it) and allow themselves to consume it
entirely. The irony continues as the heron looks as if it does not know where to step next, lost in
its own conceit. This ironic tone is a laugh at mankind for being so selfish. However, in the poem,
Oliver speaks in the first person narrative, as if mankind is attached to nature and can comprehend
what is happening. This gives the poem a cynical tone, full of anticipated destruction and isolation.

The final body of literature I want to give notice to is the literature pertaining to how museums are
arranged by curators and other museum staff to effectively display their artifacts. I wish to dive
into this literature because part of my own research will be examining how the curators of the
Cleveland Museumof Art decided to arrange their ancient Greek exhibit. This pool of literature will
help guide me in different ways to interpret the set up of the exhibit, the placement of the objects
and try to understand what the curator was trying to convey with their design decisions.

Preconditions of the Visual Display of Culturally Purposeful Objects, is centered around
understanding the relationship between the visitor and the museum label as well as the intent
behinds the objects and the exhibit design. Baxendall has 2 major points in his article. The first
point and his own unique idea is the museum set. The museum set is a sense of the museum as a
treasure house, educational instrument, secular temple, and the rest . The typical adult visitor with
this mindset comes to museums expecting that he will view a large array of objects and learn
interesting cultural facts about them. This is the observer that most curators make their exhibits to
interact with and as such must be aware of their expectations.

When the wife ended her employment with Robert over ten years ago, Robert asked if he could
touch her face before she left. Robert and the wife stayed in touch even after she left her old job by

What Is Non-Embodied Identity
I really enjoyed how in this class we learned more about identity and how to explore our own.
And what I think worked really well was exploring what Identity was at the beginning of the
semester. After we learned about what creativity was and was not we started on defining Identity
and what non unitary self was. Non unitary self is saying that you are more than just 1 just thing.
I always knew that was true I just never knew the word for it. Before this class I was pretty solid in
my identity, and how I felt about it. I knew that I was Somali American and how that shaped my
identity. I understand what culture clash was before I consciously knew that I was juggling two
separate cultural identities. As I grew older I started to describe my identity as a triple threat, as an
opposition to the norm of American society. I was Muslim, Black, and Woman. Being conscious of
my identity allowed me to navigate many different spaces, especially when I came to college. In
college, there are so many unwritten rules and understandingthose nuances came from knowing my

I also don t like to be physically close to people as well. So the idea of Embodied identity was
very difficult for me. And I felt this way because when I think about dancing and my identity they
don t seem to fit. And that is because dancing is a private affair between familyand friends. But that
doesn t mean I don t understand how other people see dancing because dancing is fun and it is a
form of expression. And I know I will use what I learned in my future classroom, such as getting
the wiggles out dance time, or for serious affairs like exploring emotions using dancing in small
