Jealousy will without doubt affect everyone physically nonetheless it will also affect you mentally.
The phrase family will always stab you in the back never wants to cross your mind as true; but for one
set of brothers they took this saying literally. Your brother is supposed to be your best friend not your
killer. Throughout the short story it is displayed rather clearly with Cain and, Abel. The actions of
Cain and Abel it is communitiave that jealousy can provoke people to do unthinkable things. When a
family finally receives the biggest blessing of having a child their life becomes complete. Although for
Adam and Eve they prayed to the lord nightly for just one more son, they already had a perfect child
but that was just not enough. Lord brought Abel down to them. Cain and Abel were brothers. Cain
worked the soil as Abel worked with the animal. In Cain s head Abel had gotten the better job of the
two and that is instantly when jealousy arouse inside of him. Because Abel got the better job it was
important to ensure God had continued to be happy with him, Cain brought the Lord some fresh fruit
from the soil he had recently been working on and God barely noticed. Abel then brought a fat portion
from the animals he had recently been working with and God looked with favor at him. This caused

There were two very clear schools of literary criticism included in this piece. The first school of
criticism that can be found in this writing is the historical criticism. Historical criticism considers the
time in history in which the text was written and/or in which the text takes place. The time period that
Lydia wrote this piece in was directly related to the piece itself. She wrote about what was occurring
in history to educate the people of that time along with readers afterwards in order to fully understand
what was happening. If the time period were any different I am sure that her pieces would have

It opened my eyes to so much new information that I had no idea about before, and if I was able to be
educated by this information I couldn t imagine the effect it would have had on her readers back then.
Her ability to be real, direct and not sugar coat the information is what really set her apart. I think
many people still tip toe around the topic of slavery but Lydia did not. Not only was the piece itself
impressive but her ability to take a leap and put herself out there was truly admirable. She knew the
topic was risky but that didn t stop her. Not only was it a risky topic but she was also a woman writer
and during that time period for many woman writers, that would have been enough. Lydia didn t care
whose toes she stepped on or who she offended she was going to speak her mind and let her thoughts
be known and that was the most incredible thing I took away from her
