Introduction
Crime is a very prominent issue. Most of us know someone who has been a victim of a crime,
has committed a crime or have committed a crime ourselves. News outlets are filled with crime
stories. Television shows depict criminals and the agencies trying to bring criminals to justice.
Being such a dominant part of life, it is essential that we take a deeper look into the causes and
trends of crime.
Discussion of Theory
I believe there are many different motivating factors as to why people commit crimes. There are a
few theories that I learned in criminology that coincide with my own personal beliefs. I believe
components from strain theory , differential association theory , and labeling theory have valid
points. Strain theory , points out that the social situation one is presented with dictates and
molds the potential criminal they could become. I agree. For example, I think some people are
inclined to commit crimes of stealing, due to limited funds. In many poverty ridden areas,
thieves are just trying to survive. Additionally, where there is poverty there is a lack of
education. This leads to poor paying jobs, which also leads to the commission of crime for
survival. It reveals a humanizing reason for these offenses. With differential association , I think
many people are taught and often pressured by others as to how to be socially deviant. For
example, many people who are involved in drug and alcohol related crimes socialize with people

My ethical perspectives have evolved through my MBA curriculum by inspiring changes in my
choices and behaviors. My awareness concerning ethical and social responsibilities has also
changed. I have been educated about the magnitude of ethical demeanor and development of my
guiding principles in addition to cultivating a positive societal image. Moral values and norms
result in behaviors valued by the workplace and society. Based on my perspective, an individual
should not demonstrate unethical actions for the sake of his or her vested interests. Practicing a
moral approach demonstrates a commitment to critical social responsibilities. This also raises the
question of altruism. Some people agree with the altruistic concept while others oppose the
philosophy. Should individuals assume a sympathetic stance for the sole purpose of assisting
others? Some take the sympathetic stance to the extreme of carrying others or taking on the
responsibilities of others. In my view, practicing an ethical code of conduct is obligatory as well as
giving consideration to the requests of external as well as internal stakeholders without assuming

Chapter 2 defined three stages in the writing process which are Writing for an Audience by Linda
Flower, Getting Started by Anne Lamott, and Writing to Change the World by Mary Pipher which
are all important articles as narrated by each author. After I have read all these three steps, I chose
getting started in writingas the most important stage and I will show you the readers how I came
about this statement through Anne Lamott s article. Lamott provided knowledge, references
and experiences on the way to get started and how to be at ease on what to write for students and
would be writers. The first thing to consider is how does one get to start writing. I consider
myself not that good at writing, especially in English, for I am bilingual. Even so, I read from

As a simply written novel with an incredibly complex theme, Things Fall Apart gives readers a
touch of cultural shock which manages to leave them unwilling to return home after the last page.
Chinua Achebe, the author, bases the plot around the experiences his people group has with

As a way for clansmen to solve problems among themselves, this judgment is vital to the

I start a fire, put a pot of water on it and tell the children I am in the middle of preparing
something, Maryam Sy, 37 and a mother of nine, says in a raspy voice. In reality, I have nothing
(qtd. in Larson). Like Maryam s kids, several other African children go to bed before their mothers
are finished stirring the pots. Hunger and malnutritionis a serious problem faced by many African
countries. This issue affects children the most. Every year, millions of children die due to the lack
of proper nutrition. Besides the physical and psychological damage, malnutrition also affects
academics. Malnutrition has several negative effects on a child s learning and school performance
as it can lead to lower attendance, unsatisfactory student behavior, and poor academic performance.
As children do not get proper nutrition, Malnutrition makes students susceptible to illnesses which
lead to low school attendance. Being out of school for long periods of time due to illnesses makes
students unfamiliar with the concepts being taught upon return. They often do poorly on the tests
because of that. Malnutrition affects students academic performance as well. Children who

John McTaggart in his essay Time presents a radical argument that claims time is unreal. While the
argument is interesting and has attracted much attention for his arguments, I remain unconvinced of
the argument he makes. This paper will lay out McTaggart s argument that time in unreal, critically
analyze why I believe McTaggart s argument fails and presentan alternative idea about time,

In the argument he makes the claim that every event is past present and future. Therefore, events
can only exhibit pastness, presentness or futurity and events can exhibit pastness, presentness
and futurity, and this is contradictory, so one of these ideas must be false. If it is contradictory,
then it is false and events cannot exhibit pastness, presentness or futurity, which infers that there
exists no A series, which follows that that time does not exist. I see the validity of parts of
McTaggart s claim. However, for the most part I find the argument convoluted and difficult to
follow. He claims that an event cannot be past, present and future, I can agree with this notion of

What defines art? More importantly, who defines good or bad art? Does that make one who
deals with art in any way is a judge in their own right? When viewed in that perspective, art is
practically subjective in its natural state. Perhaps, that is why the artistic community is so diverse.
It could be said that each of those categories are composed of artists who prefer that certain style of
expression. Vincent Willem van Gogh, generally speaking, falls into the category of being an Post
Impressionist, with a twist.
Loosely speaking, what does Post Impressionism work usually appear to be? In the name of all
things casual, the style of Post Impressionism actually was not to strict in what they depicted for
their style. However, amidst all these individual styles and interpretations, there were commons
threads that all linked them to the category Post Impressionism. For instance, most works of art
belonging to this category, seem to place an emphasis of abstract, symbolic and personal meanings
/emotions envisioned within the pieces (Post Impressionism, 2017). Not only that, but also the
application of structure, order, and the optical effects of color dominated the aesthetic vision in
efforts to describe the world around them (Post Impressionism, 2017). Judging by those
characteristics, van Gogh fit in quite easily with the diverse group of artists that composed the Post
Impressionist style of artwork.

As we engineer the shoreline, this is a phase that may compare to the changing or altering the
nature of the shoreline in order to keep it stabilized. The stabilization methods of shoreline range
from planting dune grass, to large seawalls using bulldozers or cranes. These methods are short
term. Erosion of beaches caused by human may be greater than nature causing. Replenishing of
beaches may consist of pumping sand back out onto the beach, or building back up sand dunes.
This would result in not enough money to replenish the beach. Only the upper part of the beach
