Carlo Scarpa s Approach And Theory
INTRODUCTION AND BUILDING HISTORY
Carlo Scarpa s approach and theory to designing with existing buildings is an innovation that is
relevant to buildings even today. The Castelvecchio museum is one of his greatest projects, and
thoroughly reveals his way of working. Scarpas intention was not only to restore an aging building but
to do so in a way that creates dialogue between the new and the old. By careful work of demolition
and preservation, he literally cuts, shifts and adds elements to the existing building in order to create
an exhibition of the building s past, and its connection to modernity.
In order for him to make informed decisions about what to preserve and what to demolish, he had to
have a thorough understanding of the building s political history. The Castelvecchio dates back as far
as the 12th century, and has undergone four eras of development in its lifetime. The commune wall is
the oldest element in the building and was the second of three large fortifications in Verona (Fig 1.1).
In 1354, the Castelvecchio was built by the Scaligeri family, the Lords of Verona, and was built for
their own defense against the citizens for times of revolt. It was built either side of the commune wall,
and consisted of a three story residence or Reggia around an inner court and an outer military zone
(Fig 1.2). The Castelvecchio continued this military function until 1797, where Napoleon and his
troops claimed residence during his invasion over the Venetian Republic. This

The Effects Of The Detroit Race Riot Of 1967
The Detroit race riot of 1967 was one the most destructive and violent riots of the 159 race riots that
occurred during the Long Hot Summer. For five straight days civilians fought the police, resulting in
43 deaths, 1,189 injuries, 7,200 arrests, and over 2,500 lootings. Fifty years later there are still visible
results of the riot, and the event remains a source of reflection for Detroit citizens. Asides from the
building damage and violence, the riots affected various aspects of Detroit s culture, including the
Motown enterprise, which was producing chart topping music that influenced listeners across the
globe. As a genre of music that was known as The Sound of Young America in the 1960s, studying the
Motown sound before and after the riots can provide insight into Detroit citizens mindset.
Between 1964 and 1967 Motown recorded sixty top fifteen pop chart hits, fourteen of which were
number ones. But Motown s success was almost unfathomable to the music industry as a record label
ran by an African American with African American musicians and producers. Berry Gordy, the
founder of Motown, managed to create black music and commercialize it directly to a white American
audience that was often times only willing to consume music that was at least covered by a white
musician. This all occurred in the wake of the British Invasion , from 1964 to 1966, where young
white Americans became drawn to male dominated guitar based groups. With Billboard s decision to

Student Self-Assessment Reflection
Chelsie Vogel
Student Self Assessment Reflection
When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would be
clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self
assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading,
discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The
student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down (not
yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a failure.
After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down with them,
take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses.
For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled
thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading. Student N
also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student if they read a
lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video games and watching
TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they liked about it. Student N
talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By their response, I could tell that
they preferred reading at home when It involved another family member versus reading on their own.
The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a good reader and I don t have a problem
finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their reading and is aware of what they enjoy
reading.
Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him that
even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also shared that
sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This will help me build
our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when they are reading or if
they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their reading

Hitchcock Duality Of Human Nature Analysis
Hitchcock also explores the duality of human nature through the parlour scene. We start with a mid
shot of Marion to show her initial reaction of the parlour, then to a close up of an owl with its wings
spread open looking at Marion like it would on its prey. We can see this is a duality of predator vs prey
resembling the good and the bad. We also notice around the room there is stuffed ravens and crows
and that they are usually symbolised with death, while Owls are symbolised with wisdom and
knowledge. The difference in these birds is a duality itself showing good vs bad. This is hinting at
Norman and what is about to happen between him and Marion, we then go back to a close up of
Marion where she is looking confused and thinking how odd

Cognitive Exam Face Recognition Essay
FACE RECOOGNITION
This essay will talk about face recognition and several reasons why it has been studied separately. The
ability to recognise faces is of huge significance of people s daily life and differs in important ways
from other forms of object recognition (Bruce and Young, 1986). Than this essay will talk about the
processes involved in face recognition which comes from the diversity of research about familiar and
unfamiliar faces it includes behavioural studies, studies on brain damaged patients, and neuroimaging
studies. Finally, it will discuss how face recognition differs from the recognition of other object by
involving more holistic or configuration processing and different areas of the brain (Eysenck amp;
Keane, 2005). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Support for Bruce s amp; Young s (1986) model comes from studies on prosopagnosia a condition
caused by brain damage in which the patient cannot recognise familiar faces but can recognise
familiar object. For example, some prosopagnosics patients demonstrate good performance of face
recognition but poor performance of identifying facial expression, whereas others show opposite
pattern (Young et al., 1993).
Moreover, Bruce and Young (1986) suggested that the name generation component can be accessed
only via the appropriate person identity node. Thus, assuming that no brain damaged patients can put
names to face without knowing anything else about the person, however several patients showed the
opposite pattern. For instance, Flude et al. (1989) reported that patient, EST, demonstrated greater
retrieval of the occupations of familiar people when presented with their faces than when recalling
their names. Such studies show that the processing of familiar faces differs from that of unfamiliar
ones, because only relevant stored knowledge (e.g., name or occupation) with familiar faces is
accessible.
Overly, the model provides coherent explanation of many kind of information about faces and how
they relate to each other. It provides evidence about significant differences in processing of familiar
and unfamiliar faces. Nonetheless there are limitations. For instance, there is not enough information
about processing unfamiliar faces. Burton et al. (1999)

Korean War Achieve America s Objectives Of The Cold War
Ever since World War II, the United States has played a massive role in world affairs: from
membership in the United Nations to the involvement in protecting Kosovo from ethnic cleansing to
the multitude of proxy wars initiated between the Soviets and the United States. One of these proxy
wars was the Korean War, where the United States allied with South Korea against the North Korean
invasion backed by the Chinese and later Soviets. The purpose of this essay is to investigate and
answer the research question How did the United States policy of intervention in the Korean War
achieve America s objectives of the Cold War? Comprehension of how America handled foreign
affairs will be useful for historians to see how America s diplomatic and ... Show more content on

Due the Potsdam Declaration, Japan was required to revert back to the size of its empire prior to 1894,
subsequently forcing Japan to give up all of the territories they had acquired during World War 2,
(such as French Indochina, Burma, the Philippines, and parts of China) and even before World War 2
like Taiwan and Korea. Since the Korean Empire had dissolved after Japanese annexation, the new
Korea was left without a government. The United Nations decided that the best solution was to split
the Korean peninsula at the 38th parallel, put the Soviet Union in control of the North, the United
States in control of the South, and to hold free democratic elections in both areas. The idea behind this
was to set up a temporary government and eventually the two would merge. In the South, Syngman
Rhee was elected while in the North, the Soviets ignored the United Nation s plan, established a
communist state, and put Kim Il Sung in charge. (Young) The war had begun with North Korean
leader Kim Il Sung s desire to unify the peninsula under communist rule. Before WWII, the peninsula
had been one country (Han). You could say that the Korean War could have been predicted as in 1945,
Russia occupied the northern half of Korea while the United States entered through Inchon to control
the southern half of Korea for the next three years. (Young) This three year period of control is likely

The Relationship Between Persian Painting And Chinese...
1. Introduction
Kamāl al Dīn Behzād (c.1450 c.1535), who served royal princes of Timurid (1370 1507) and Safavid
(1501 1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records and paintings
related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians challenged again
and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non signed works to him. However,
the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re examination of his style is needed. In
this essay, I would like to re examine what is called Bihzād style , by comparing the Persian painting
with Chinese painting.

However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was
already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād s figural
paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the
contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man.
The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was
drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is
similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to
classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine.
The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical
Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian
painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some
traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great
impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing
the physiognomy for the first time in this period. From his indication and the comparison between
Bihzād practice drawing (fig 1) and Chinese painting (fig 2), Bihzād style could be defined by the
depiction of figures rather than landscape painting

Mutiny In Port Chicago 50 s
One of Port Chicago 50 s aha moments was when all of the fifty men were found guilty of mutiny. At
that point is when we found out that the trial was unfair, knowing that the men did not do what they
were accused of. The definition of mutiny is to refuse to obey orders of a person in authority. They say
they wouldn t obey orders, they only said that they wouldn t go back to the same work. And they had
good reason to do so, or at least I believe they did. They said they wouldn t go back to the same job as
the place where the horrid mistake happened had been doing, known as Port Chicago 50. Not under
the same working conditions. Something would have to change. They couldn t just keep loading
ammunition everyday, handling them improperly with no knowledge of how to load them the correct
way. They couldn t keep risking their lives everyday for the Navy when people didn t even treat them
like humans. What made it all worse was the reason they weren t being treated like humans was
because the majority of them were black. It s such an important piece in history, but we haven t
learned about this event in any of our classes until now. Why you may ask? Because it was the Navy s
fault. The Navy was the one in the wrong here. They had only let black men be messmen and
ammunition in unsafe conditions, and it had backfired on them. ... Show more content on

Syria s Civil War
Syria s Civil War
The civil war going on in Syria has been a topic of much discussion. What began as peaceful protests
has turned into brutal civil war with over 100,000 deaths and counting. The images of men, women,
and children being gassed or shot to death are just horrible to watch and hard to bear. With all these
casualties and the U.S government expects to make a series of targeted military strikes against the
Syrian government?
Syria is a country in the Middle East, along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Syria is very
diverse, ethnically and religiously. The country s population is divided among Sunni Arabs (a little
less than 60 percent of the population); Christians (about 10 12 percent); Alawites, a Shiite offshoot ...

Military intervention will only intensify the violence, not reduce it. As the veteran foreign
correspondent and Syria expert Patrick Seale has written: The only way to prevent a full scale civil
war in Syria . . . is to demilitarize the conflict and bring maximum pressure on both sides to negotiate
(qtd. in Hasan).
The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at
pushing all sides to the negotiating table. The only way the U.S can resolve this crisis is by working
together with the Syrian government and getting other countries to exert their influence and persuade
the Syrian government to turn in their enormous stockpile of chemical weapons.
The idea of military intervention will just increase the casualties in both sides. For example, after
NATO s air assault on Yugoslavia kicked off in March 1999, the number of civilian casualties and
refugees in Kosovo went up, not down. In Iraq and Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocents lost
their lives at the hands of western troops as well as home grown terrorists (Hasan). Furthermore, in
their book Why Civil Resistance Works , the US academics Erica Chenoweth and Maria J Stephan
challenge the conventional wisdom that the use of force against heavily armed opponents is the most
effective way for resistance groups to achieve their aims. They discovered that the historical record

The demand for corn has greatly increased because of its many new found uses but mainly because it
has been discovered that corn can be use as an alternate energy source. This great demand for corn has
increased many area of farming and production of corn here and other countries such as Mexico and
South America. This great demand has lead to an increase in farmers who are willing to cash in on
these cash crops and try to earn a few quick dollars because of the great demand for it. In 2007 Corn

This would create and elastic effect on the corn market because the huge demand for corn oil will
remain the same but with the discovery corn for energy it has made it a hot commodity and very
profitable amongst farmers therefore corn oil would take a back seat for now until other resources can
be used to produce energy. These farmers are going to slow down their productions of corn for corn
oil and increase the production of corn for energy because it is the more profitable thing to do and its
makes perfect business sense. Now the demand for the corn oil remains the same, but the productions
for it has slowed greatly if not stopped, this means that farmers and corn producers will need to raise
the price of corn for corn products so they will be able to stay on the market longer and have a longer
shelf life until another year or harvest comes around.

Measurements in Boundary Layer Flows
Abstract: In this experiment, the velocity profile for a flat plate at zero pressure gradient of a boundary
layer at two different stream wise points were acquired. The investigation was also based on and how
changes in Reynolds number affect the velocity distribution within boundary layers. Parameters such
as the Momentum Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of
friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. The experimental values
calculated were compared to the theoretical Blasius for laminar flow and Power Law Solutions for
turbulent flow to see how they varied. It was found out the higher the Reynolds number the greater the
boundary layer thickness. As the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the Displacement
Thickness, δ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free streamlines are displaced in the y
direction due to the formation of the boundary layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the
mass flow rate per unit area. This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower,
meaning less flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate for
this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be displaced. The distance it
displaced is the δ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and
steady. Another factor is the Momentum Thickness, ϴ. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of
freestream fluid carrying a momentum flow rate equal to the reduction in momentum flow rate caused
by the formation of the boundary layer. Closer to the surface of the object, the flow is slower. This
means that the momentum is also slower. ϴ is a measurement of the compensation that makes us the
momentum flow rate that was lost due to the formation of the boundary layer. The momentum
thickness is useful in determining the skin friction drag on a surface. [5] When deriving this equation
it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Momentum Thickness is an indication of Drag.

Hinduism Temple Visit Personal Experience Reflection
Hinduism is a religion of religions; it is one of the first as we know it. It isn t just a religion however,
it is a way of life. A culture that India has been known for having. I have discovered that Hinduism is
so much more than a religion or a culture. As a matter of fact it is a way of being; a way of life.
Hinduism has been a journey for me and it all came alive through the need to write this paper. When I
first met up with my host, Devi, I noticed her garments right away. She had her hair down with silver
earrings a shirt that looked like Indian garb. It was White with golden inlay. It was beautiful! She wore
beige leggings and dark flats. Devi had bracelets on both of her wrists too. On her left wrist, there was

other energies around are in check and aligned. Devi then asked if she could take some time to
meditate. There were many people doing this in the temple on rugs. I like meditation, but it also gave
me more of a chance to observe everything. The people throughout the temple, did not have a uniform
way of sitting, like the movies perceive monks and meditation. One thing I noticed that was similar
with everyone, was that all arms and legs were inside of the vehicle at all times. No one had any limbs
off the sides of the rugs. The people in the temple who we praying were in a sitting position for the
most part, but I don t know if you could call this a lotus position or not. I know that in yoga, the lotus
position is with the legs intermingled almost in a cross legged form fashion, with the arms out and
placed on the knees. When we were finished with this, Devi showed me a place in the temple where
they had a chimney and a fire blazing. Fire is the most powerful of the elements in the Hindi culture.
The fire is a reminder to us, that the fire can purify and can also destroy us. This is why it is
considered to be the most powerful. Devi said that after her son, Rishi, was born, the family had a
ceremony with fire to represent him coming into the world. Rishi s youth and innocence were pure
like the fire, and any impurities were to burn away in the

A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway
While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway s world and developed a
better understanding of him with a human experience. This novel provides an inside look on both,
Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature
death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight
into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes
from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments
from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to
learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by
individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed
and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand that
Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of
the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to
Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions
are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person.
Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished,

important to change it for the betterment of firm. The deserving employees must get appreciated for

The Pros And Cons Of International Adoption
There is one thing that most people look forward to for their entire lives. Grow up, get married and
have that perfect, happy family. Sometimes for this to happen, it involves adoption. Whether someone
wants to start a family with it, or if they want to expand their family. No matter what the initial reason
is adoption is everywhere and involves many people. Most people don t go through life and say that
they don t know anybody who is adopted. Many people are related to, or know at least one person,
that was adopted. So all countries should let people continue saying that by letting them adopt whether
they are from a foreign country or not. It is estimated that there are 2 billion kids in the world. Of
those 2 billion, 15 million are living without parents. Millions more, not counting the 2 billion, have
been abandoned by their parent or guardian forcing them to fend for themselves (SIRS, International
Adoption Babies without Borders, Para 1). While there are many things that we can do to help this
problem, America seems to be focusing on other issues. Instead of looking to take care of the people
of tomorrow, the politicians and others are focusing on the present only. ... Show more content on

Cherokee Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears
Cherokee Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears
What made the Cherokee culture distinctive towards others in the Trail of Tears time period was that
they had a more peaceful, harmless outlook on the situation. In 1814, Andrew Jackson who would
eventually become the President of the United States, had his and his whole army s lives on the line in
the Battle of Horseshoe Bend to the British forces when the Cherokee allied with them to win the
battle. Surprisingly, 16 years later when Jackson was President of the United States, he made the
deciding decision on the controversy of whether or not the Cherokee deserved their land. Jackson

Some may wonder why the Cherokee did not fight for their land. Historians suggest that the Cherokee
knew America was a more powerful force. They were also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a

not violence. This made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes involved in the Trail of Tears, because
they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had a small chance
of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew that America was acting harsh
and cruel towards them, but they didn t believe strongly in acts of violence. The Cherokee would also
communicate with Jackson occasionally (not often at all) about their progress and health during their
voyage. After their long, treacherous voyage, they reached their new land where they had to resettle,
and had to start all over again.
When the Cherokee resettled, they were a different group with no leaders; everybody became the same
during their voyage to new settlement. The Cherokee then became more civilized, and began to fade

Legalizing Marijuana in the United States Essay
Legalizing Marijuana Debate
Marijuana, also known as Cannabis is the third most well liked recreational drug, which only falls
behind alcohol and tobacco, in the United States (The Whitehouse, n.d.). Marijuana is made up of
dried leaves, plants, stalks, and pits from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa, which comprises of the
mind altering compound delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in addition to other associated
compounds. This plant substance can correspondingly be converged in a resin called hashish or an
adhesive black fluid called hash oil. Efforts to legalize marijuana for medication treatment and
recreational use in the United States have grown in current years. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) states that marijuana may perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States has been involved in a failing battle versus marijuana since the execution of the
Uniform Narcotic Act in the 1930 s. Americans are not only squandering almost eight billion a year,
Americans are losing probable income. Americans could be in a position to gain a profit of a
significant amount of revenues if marijuana were to be legal and structured by the Department of
Agriculture (Norml, 2014). Revenue from the tax system of marijuana purchases would extend from
about two and a half billion for each year if marijuana were taxed like conventional inventory
products to six billion if it were taxed like tobacco or alcohol.
Marijuana is a contrast to tobacco and alcohol when addiction characteristics do not show with the use
of marijuana while addiction shows with legal tobacco and alcohol. It shows that less than one in ten
marijuana smokers convert to consistent consumers of the drug, and most intentionally terminate their
use after age 34, by comparison, 15 percent of alcohol users and 32 percent of tobacco smokers
display indicators of drug dependency. Cannabis withdrawal indicators are uncommon and do not
need replacement medication to stop the habit. When smoking marijuana comes to an end of an intake,
the vast majority of smokers do not feel subjected to uncomfortable withdrawal indicators
commanding restarting the use of marijuana. The authority of marijuana is much more profound than
plain human physiology; it is a

Othello s Decline
The beginning of the play begins with an argument between two men, Iago is shown complaining to
Roderigo that Othello, his Commander, chose the handsome young Cassio to be his first lieutenant
instead of himself. This choice enrages Iago and therefore he vows to get revenge on Cassio. Iago then
asks Roderigo to tell Desdemona s father, Brabantio, that his daughter is marrying Othello. He knows
that Brabantio will be angered by this because he is a racist man and does not like Moorish people.
After they confront each other, Othello and Brabantio take their issue to the Duke of Venice, who
summons them to ask Othello to sail to Cyprus and stop a Turkish invasion. The Duke allows for
Desdemona, who has chosen her husband over her father Brabantio, to go with him. By the time they

Iago then proceeds to plant Desdemona s handkerchief in Cassio s room to make a scene that Cassio

Romeo And Juliet Tragedy Analysis
Romeo and Juliet, a classic play by William Shakespeare, is known to many as a tragedy. But what
makes this play tragic? Audiences favor this story because of the emotions evoked from a tale of love
that sees two young souls torn apart. However, Romeo and Juliet when under my own definition of
tragedy, does not resemble a tragic play. While the death of Mercutio and the deaths of Romeo and
Juliet seem tragic, the story does not show one failing when trying to reach their full potential, instead
the audience sees a forbidden love and death as a result, which does not demonstrate tragedy. Instead,
Romeo and Juliet face flaws from within their families and society, forcing them to stay apart due to
conflict. While both Romeo and Juliet try to reach the goal of being together and fail, the flaws of
others cause the conflict, not the flaws of themselves. My definition surrounds the idea that the flaws
of oneself leads to his or her demise, meaning that the play misses a key characteristic of the definition
of tragedy. Both characters seem to die a tragic death, however, their death can only be considered sad
or upsetting, especially to the audience. This play instead consists of somber scenes that show aspects
of a tragedy, but not enough to place this play in a tragic category in the classic definition or in my
own definition because the flaws of the main characters do not cause the fall of the characters as they
try to reach their full potential. If a character who fell as a

Theory The pixel time profiles in cardiac MRI are extremely organized when we have perfect gating
and breath holding. Some penalties for example; temporal Fourier sparsity (to exploit low temporal
bandwidth), temporal total variation (to exploit smooth pixel time profiles) or low rank penalties (to
exploit the redundancy between the pixel time profiles) can be utilized to make the recovery from
under sampled data well posed. However, the compactness of the signal representations will be
extensively degraded in the presence of inter frame motion, which can emerge due to breathing or
inconsistent gating; because of which, the performance of the above schemes will be extensively
compromised. We propose to defeat the above limitation by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The regularization term in Eq. (1) promotes the sparsity of the deformation corrected dataset〖 T〗
_θ.L, instead of L. Here, Φ(u) indicates an arbitrary prior to exploit the redundancy in the data; λ is the
corresponding regularization parameter. The primary advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it
can be utilized with any spatio temporal priors on the deformation corrected dataset. The particular
priors can be chosen relying upon the particular application. The capability of the algorithm to handle
arbitrary image priors makes this methodology definitely different from classical motion
compensation algorithms that register each frame to a specific fully sampled frame. The deformation
field in Eq. (1) is assumed to be parametrically represented in terms of the parameters. For example, Θ
is the set of B spline coefficients if a B spline model is used to represent the deformation field as in
[24] and [25]. In this case, the spatial smoothness of the deformation map is controlled by the grid
spacing of the B spline map. The spatial smoothness requirements can also be explicitly forced using
regularization constraints on the deformation field as in [26]. Our approach is closely related to [26].
We suggest to use a variable splitting approach [27], [28] to decouple the original problem in (1) to
simpler sub problems. Specifically, we split the deformation from the l_1 norm by introducing an
auxiliary variable g. This enables us to reformulate the unconstrained

Auditor Independence Essay
Abstract. The article reviewed was Role of Independence in Ethics for SMP Accountants. The key of
the abstract is to emphasize the strength of ethics and moral behavior while conducting the audit (pp.
305 306).
Introduction. The author studied professional ethics and auditor independence at small and medium
firms. The researcher compared ethics with values, and laid emphasis on the credibility as one of the
most important ethics element (p. 306). The concept of auditor independence and ethics has
significantly changed for the last century. There was a drastic move toward the neutrality in reporting.
The main objective of research is to analyze two terms independence of mind and independence in
appearance; and examine perceptions of independent auditors (pp. 307 308). The study is important
because it investigates professional ethics as the key of quality assurance services. The researcher
considered two problems of the study: shifts in regulations affect the auditors behavior, and changes in
settings and culture of businesses (p. 305).
Literature Review. The author used a systematic review of literature in the research. The researcher
examined studies of Gill and Cosseral (1996), The Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, and
Guidance Note on Independence of Auditors to analyze the word independence in depth. The author
stated that the term might bring a lot of confusion (p. 307). The term should emphasize that the
professional is free from financial relationships.

Wretched of the Earth Essay
Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon explores the roles of violence, class, and political organization
in the process of decolonization. Within a Marxist framework, Fanon theorizes and prophesizes the
successes and failures of independence movements within colonized nations. He exalts the proletariat
as a revolutionary class that is first to realize the necessity of violence in the removal of colonial
regimes. Yet the accomplishment and disappointments of the proletariat are at the hand of men. Fanon
neglects women in terms of the proletariat s wishes and efforts. In spite of this exclusion, Fanon
nonetheless develops a theory that could apply to the proletariat as a whole, women included. For

Such an attitude entails drastic and violent methods. Through this violence the revolution can succeed.
Yet even after the colonial regime is removed, the infrastructure that was imposed continues to control
the people. The bourgeoisie, the individuals who led the revolution leave the proletariat and the
peasants disappointed. That which they have been promised is often unfulfilled or can only be
considered insufficient. The spirit of revolution remains, and in time the proletariat will rise again,
continuing to trust in the process.
European notions of modernity transformed Egypt into a society where the female peasantry became
the most oppressed class. These colonial influences produced an economy, which satisfied the needs
of Europe and frustrated the needs of the Egyptian peasantry. Prior to the early 1820s, the Egyptian
peasantry practiced a subsistence economy, which allowed the peasant family to feed and maintain
itself. The families were left relatively autonomous as state officials had little interest in this class with
the exception of the payment of taxes. Under this system, women in the Egyptian peasantry were able
to lead a somewhat egalitarian existence. Although tasks were divided according to gender, hours of
labor were relatively equal. Muhammad Ali s rise to power resulted in an immediate change in the
economy. Ali had a strong affinity for the modernity of Europe and actively attempted to

Year round schools operate 180 days a year just like a traditional school calendar. The difference
between year round schooling and a traditional school schedule is that there are small breaks in

schooling because of costs, parents and students perspective, and lack of educational benefits.
School systems should not transition to year round schooling because of costs. According to ESUUS,
Multitrack year round schools have noticed additional demands on school support staff and on

The Greenhouse Effect And Global Warming
The greenhouse effect and global warming are issues that are talked about by geologists all the time.
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth at temperatures that are livable. Energy
from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse gasses and become
trapped in the atmosphere. Some of the most common greenhouse gasses are water vapor, carbon
dioxide, and methane. If there were no greenhouse gasses, very few rays would be absorbed and the
earth would be extremely cold. When too many rays are absorbed, the earth s atmosphere starts to
warm, which leads to global warming. Global warming can lead to many problems that affect the
environment in which we live.
In order to talk about global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Methane in the atmosphere is generated by biological activity related to rice cultivation, leaks in
domestic and industrial gas lines, and the digestive process of domestic livestock, especially cattle. An
environmental effect of global warming is the fact that higher temperatures will lead to a change in the
water cycle. Some places may experience more rain. Warmer temperatures will cause a greater amount
of evaporation from lakes, rivers, and oceans. In some areas this could be good, and in others it could
be considered bad. In northern regions of the United States, an increase in the temperature and amount
of rain could actually extend the growing season of crops. This would in turn mean more money for
farmers in the northern region. It could also hurt some farmers. Too much rain is bad for some crops.
Certain areas will actually get less rain, which would lead to more droughts and have a negative
impact on crops. Warm and wet weather is usually a factor that promotes tropical storms. Global
warming would lead to tropical storms appearing with greater frequency. More rain will also force
plant life to adjust. Forests and plant life migrate naturally, but scientists say that global warming
would cause them to migrate at a much faster rate. If the climate changes the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change says, some forest species in North America will shift by as much as 300 miles to
the north

Brazilian Family Structure
A unitary explanation or description cannot be given for the Brazilian family structure due to its
diversity racially, ethnically, and socio economically. In looking at the historical Brazilian family
structure, there are two models based on ethnic, cultural diversity. Neder (as cited in Torres Dessen,
2008) notes that the first type of Brazilian family is from the family of African slaves who are a
culturally diverse. Consequently, they do not have a single African family structure, but a variety of
family structures, such as matriarchy, patriarchy and polygamy (2008, p.196). The second Brazilian
family model is the traditional family. The people of Iberian origin formed this family model, and it is

Willems (1953) notes that upper and middle class Brazilian family structure is different that of the
lower class Brazilian who comprise the overwhelming majority of the Brazilian people. After
marriage, in the upper and middle class family structure, the husband takes the role of the dominant
authoritarian father who actively regulates the sexual behaviour of the woman. The woman must
abstain from any activities or relations that could jeopardize the sexual monopoly her husband has
over her. The women are often beaten or even killed when caught committing extra marital offences
and yet the wife is meant to be okay with having a promiscuous husband (1953, p.341). The wife is
not expected to have a close and intimate relationship with the husband, but rather to be devoted
mother and housekeeper. This lack of intimacy often results in friction and conflict. By contrast, lower
class Brazilian family do not actively chaperone the sexual behaviours of their women and girls. The
woman is in control of her sexuality, and violent retaliation for unfaithfulness is relatively non existent
in the lower class Brazilian family. Nonetheless, it is a patriarchal family structure as consent for
marriage still needs to be obtained from the father (1953,

Fozen Evil Vs Evil
What is the violation of a moral code, the opposite of good, and the ultimate definition of everything
bad? Evil has several clear cut definitions scattered throughout dictionaries. In reality, evil is a theme
so prevalent in all spheres of life, it has near limitless forms. The word evil has come to symbolize a
divide between the good samaritan and the callous monster. Evil is used as a blanket statement to
describe anything harmful to life or existence. Poachers destroying the life of endangered wildlife for
profit can be called evil. The callous monster that is driven by hatred and a thirst for violence is evil.
Ideas concerning evil have been strung along through the schools of theology, the minds of society,
and the theories of philosophy throughout the history of mankind. Evil can come in many different
forms, even in a person you love. The film Frozen has a great example of this kind of evil. Ana falls
for a seemingly nice boy named Hans, Prince Hans. With a marriage proposal the two are in love, or
so Ana thinks. In the end Hans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Transnational Corporations Affect the Sovereignty of a Nation
Analysts agree that TNCs have altered the international relations principles that were once dominated
by nation state relations (Kline, 2005).Transnational Corporations have in many ways exploited the
weaknesses in the territorially guarded national laws. In many developing countries, organizations
affiliated to external control have challenged and in some instances threatened government
sovereignty. Economically stable countries such as the United States of America, have attempted to
extend their influence to other countries of the world through TNC. This situation is what led to
governments endorsing the non interference policy in national political affairs (United Nations, 2003).
Interesting to note is the role that non governmental organizations played in this debate.
Nongovernmental organizations have been known to not only exert political pressure on governments
with little democratic space, but also collaborate with TNCs in this quest. (Heinrich, 2001). For
example, many NGOs sort the active involvement of TNC in removal of the apartheid regime in South
Africa. This in return, has created tension between these governments and the NGOs with the NGOs
calling for the increased political involvement of the TNCs.
Transnational Corporations have been steadfast in calling for respect, support and promotion of human
rights (Kline, 2005). This has been done in reference to the United Nations Universal

Analysis Of The Poem Not Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
Maira L. Herrera Sanchez Professor Emily N. Bartz English 203 9 February 2015 Sex Over Time in
Andrew Marvell s, To His Coy Mistress Sex and lust have changed greatly over time, especially since
the late 1600s. In the poem, To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell the relationship between sex and
time is rather passionate, but shifts as Marvell metaphorically describes time. The horrifying tone put
on the metaphors, allusions, and the hyperboles play an important role in the understanding of Marvell
s meaning on sex and lust of the speaker s lady over time. The idea that each sex act shortened
someone s life has come a long way. On the other hand it is believed that the message Marvell was
trying to address was how the cold lady threatened the speakers love for her. Another idea is that the
poem is based on death, and how everything will one day die, rather than the passionate approach. I
will prove how these 2 ideas are wrong. In lines Marvell introduces the relation between time and the
lady at fault, the speaker wants to love her but it is difficult, Had we but world enough, and time, This
Coyness, lady, were no crime (Mays 739). Marvell shows how if they had time she would not be at
fault, more specifically their sexual acts, and lust for one another would be the opposite of sinful.
Marvell introduces the Ganges side in line 5 to begin to show that idea of motion and time. Then he
emphasizes the motion of time even further when Marvell uses the

History of REST
Since 1994, the REST architectural style has been used to guide the design and development of the
architecture for the modern Web (Roy T. Fielding, 2000)
When HTTP , Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), was being developed by the Internet Engineering
Taskforce there was a need for a model to be created of how the WWW should actually work.
This idealized model of the interactions within a web application, is what was then later referred to as
the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style and it became the foundation for the
modern Web architecture, providing the guiding principles by which flaws in the preexisting
architecture could be identified and extensions validated prior to deployment. (Roy T. Fielding., et al.,
2005)
World Wide Web
Initially the web was meant for researchers but around 1993 it became evident that more entities were
likely to use it as usage was starting to spread to campus dorms, clubs houses personal home pages
and later to the institutions and commercial companies.
When individuals started publishing their personal information, on different topics they felt fanatic
about this social network effect started a rapid growth of sites that still goes on to this day.
Commercial interest also was beginning, but it was evident by then that the ability to publish on an
international wide scale would be inevitable to business and related entities.

  • 2. Carlo Scarpa s Approach And Theory INTRODUCTION AND BUILDING HISTORY Carlo Scarpa s approach and theory to designing with existing buildings is an innovation that is relevant to buildings even today. The Castelvecchio museum is one of his greatest projects, and thoroughly reveals his way of working. Scarpas intention was not only to restore an aging building but to do so in a way that creates dialogue between the new and the old. By careful work of demolition and preservation, he literally cuts, shifts and adds elements to the existing building in order to create an exhibition of the building s past, and its connection to modernity. In order for him to make informed decisions about what to preserve and what to demolish, he had to have a thorough understanding of the building s political history. The Castelvecchio dates back as far as the 12th century, and has undergone four eras of development in its lifetime. The commune wall is the oldest element in the building and was the second of three large fortifications in Verona (Fig 1.1). In 1354, the Castelvecchio was built by the Scaligeri family, the Lords of Verona, and was built for their own defense against the citizens for times of revolt. It was built either side of the commune wall, and consisted of a three story residence or Reggia around an inner court and an outer military zone (Fig 1.2). The Castelvecchio continued this military function until 1797, where Napoleon and his troops claimed residence during his invasion over the Venetian Republic. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of The Detroit Race Riot Of 1967 The Detroit race riot of 1967 was one the most destructive and violent riots of the 159 race riots that occurred during the Long Hot Summer. For five straight days civilians fought the police, resulting in 43 deaths, 1,189 injuries, 7,200 arrests, and over 2,500 lootings. Fifty years later there are still visible results of the riot, and the event remains a source of reflection for Detroit citizens. Asides from the building damage and violence, the riots affected various aspects of Detroit s culture, including the Motown enterprise, which was producing chart topping music that influenced listeners across the globe. As a genre of music that was known as The Sound of Young America in the 1960s, studying the Motown sound before and after the riots can provide insight into Detroit citizens mindset. Between 1964 and 1967 Motown recorded sixty top fifteen pop chart hits, fourteen of which were number ones. But Motown s success was almost unfathomable to the music industry as a record label ran by an African American with African American musicians and producers. Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown, managed to create black music and commercialize it directly to a white American audience that was often times only willing to consume music that was at least covered by a white musician. This all occurred in the wake of the British Invasion , from 1964 to 1966, where young white Americans became drawn to male dominated guitar based groups. With Billboard s decision to combine ... • 4. Student Self-Assessment Reflection Chelsie Vogel Student Self Assessment Reflection When creating a self assessment for Student N, I wanted to generate a self assessment that would be clear, simple, and provide beneficial information for myself and the student. The goal of my self assessment was to involve the student in identifying their own thoughts and feelings towards reading, discover areas of strength and improvement, and encourage self reflection of their learning. The student was asked to circle thumbs up (always), thumbs middle (sometimes), and thumbs down (not yet). I prefer using the term not yet because it shifts the attitude as a work in progress versus a failure. After allowing the student to complete the self assessment privately, I was able to sit down with them, take notes, and have a mini conference to dive deeper into their responses. For the statements, I enjoy reading books and I think reading is very important, Student N circled thumbs up. This reflects that the student has a positive attitude when it comes to reading. Student N also circled a thumbs up for the statement, I enjoy reading at home. I asked the student if they read a lot at home and they responded with, I don t really read a lot at home. I like video games and watching TV. I was interested in when or if the student reads at home and what they liked about it. Student N talked about how they enjoy reading bedtime stories sometimes. By their response, I could tell that they preferred reading at home when It involved another family member versus reading on their own. The student also gave thumbs up responses to I think I m a good reader and I don t have a problem finding books to read. Student N seems confident in their reading and is aware of what they enjoy reading. Student N gave a thumbs middle for I am comfortable reading aloud in class. I shared with him that even as a teacher I am not always comfortable reading in front of people. Student N also shared that sometimes they are comfortable, but it just depends on what they are reading. This will help me build our classroom culture and reflect on how we respect and respond to peers when they are reading or if they make a mistake. I want all students to feel comfortable practicing their reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hitchcock Duality Of Human Nature Analysis Hitchcock also explores the duality of human nature through the parlour scene. We start with a mid shot of Marion to show her initial reaction of the parlour, then to a close up of an owl with its wings spread open looking at Marion like it would on its prey. We can see this is a duality of predator vs prey resembling the good and the bad. We also notice around the room there is stuffed ravens and crows and that they are usually symbolised with death, while Owls are symbolised with wisdom and knowledge. The difference in these birds is a duality itself showing good vs bad. This is hinting at Norman and what is about to happen between him and Marion, we then go back to a close up of Marion where she is looking confused and thinking how odd ... Support for Bruce s amp; Young s (1986) model comes from studies on prosopagnosia a condition caused by brain damage in which the patient cannot recognise familiar faces but can recognise familiar object. For example, some prosopagnosics patients demonstrate good performance of face recognition but poor performance of identifying facial expression, whereas others show opposite pattern (Young et al., 1993). Moreover, Bruce and Young (1986) suggested that the name generation component can be accessed only via the appropriate person identity node. Thus, assuming that no brain damaged patients can put names to face without knowing anything else about the person, however several patients showed the opposite pattern. For instance, Flude et al. (1989) reported that patient, EST, demonstrated greater retrieval of the occupations of familiar people when presented with their faces than when recalling their names. Such studies show that the processing of familiar faces differs from that of unfamiliar ones, because only relevant stored knowledge (e.g., name or occupation) with familiar faces is accessible. Overly, the model provides coherent explanation of many kind of information about faces and how they relate to each other. It provides evidence about significant differences in processing of familiar and unfamiliar faces. Nonetheless there are limitations. For instance, there is not enough information about processing unfamiliar faces. Burton et al. (1999) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Korean War Achieve America s Objectives Of The Cold War Ever since World War II, the United States has played a massive role in world affairs: from membership in the United Nations to the involvement in protecting Kosovo from ethnic cleansing to the multitude of proxy wars initiated between the Soviets and the United States. One of these proxy wars was the Korean War, where the United States allied with South Korea against the North Korean invasion backed by the Chinese and later Soviets. Due the Potsdam Declaration, Japan was required to revert back to the size of its empire prior to 1894, subsequently forcing Japan to give up all of the territories they had acquired during World War 2, (such as French Indochina, Burma, the Philippines, and parts of China) and even before World War 2 like Taiwan and Korea. Since the Korean Empire had dissolved after Japanese annexation, the new Korea was left without a government. The United Nations decided that the best solution was to split the Korean peninsula at the 38th parallel, put the Soviet Union in control of the North, the United States in control of the South, and to hold free democratic elections in both areas. The idea behind this was to set up a temporary government and eventually the two would merge. In the South, Syngman Rhee was elected while in the North, the Soviets ignored the United Nation s plan, established a communist state, and put Kim Il Sung in charge. (Young) The war had begun with North Korean leader Kim Il Sung s desire to unify the peninsula under communist rule. Before WWII, the peninsula had been one country (Han). You could say that the Korean War could have been predicted as in 1945, Russia occupied the northern half of Korea while the United States entered through Inchon to control the southern half of Korea for the next three years. Introduction Kamāl al Dīn Behzād (c.1450 c.1535), who served royal princes of Timurid (1370 1507) and Safavid (1501 1736) dynasties, is one of the famous painters in Islamic world. Historical records and paintings related to him are so numerous. From the beginning of 20th century, art historians challenged again and again to define the style of his paintings and to attribute the non signed works to him. However, the characteristics thought as Bihzād style are vague, so the re examination of his style is needed. However, this is not true, because as mentioned above, the taste for Chinese landscape motifs was already seen in the 13th century. It would be more appropriate to see the works of Bihzād s figural paintings rather than landscape paintings to define the Bihzād style. According to the one of the contemporary historical records, Bābor nāma, Bābor wrote Bihzād was good at portraits of beard man. The statement by Bābor means people who lived in the same period thought Bihzād s strong point was drawing figures. Figure 1 is the portrait of Dervish, which is attributed to Bihzād. The brush work is similar to the techniques of Chinese nail head rat tail (釘頭鼠尾in Chinese) (see fig 2). Compared to classical style of Persian painting (see fig 3), the depiction of hairs, mustaches and beard are so fine. The shadowing and the realistic depiction of ears, nose and mouth are also rarely seen in the classical Persian painting. The Chinese derived features of this painting (fig 1) mean, in this period, Persian painters imitated the works of Chinese paintings. And by doing so, they gradually introduced some traces of Chinese painting techniques to Persian painting. The influence of Chinese painting had great impact before the Timurid dynasties, but according Sugimura, Persian painters started to borrowing the physiognomy for the first time in this period. At that point is when we found out that the trial was unfair, knowing that the men did not do what they were accused of. The definition of mutiny is to refuse to obey orders of a person in authority. They say they wouldn t obey orders, they only said that they wouldn t go back to the same work. And they had good reason to do so, or at least I believe they did. They said they wouldn t go back to the same job as the place where the horrid mistake happened had been doing, known as Port Chicago 50. Not under the same working conditions. Something would have to change. They couldn t just keep loading ammunition everyday, handling them improperly with no knowledge of how to load them the correct way. They couldn t keep risking their lives everyday for the Navy when people didn t even treat them like humans. What made it all worse was the reason they weren t being treated like humans was because the majority of them were black. It s such an important piece in history, but we haven t learned about this event in any of our classes until now. Why you may ask? Because it was the Navy s fault. As the veteran foreign correspondent and Syria expert Patrick Seale has written: The only way to prevent a full scale civil war in Syria . . . is to demilitarize the conflict and bring maximum pressure on both sides to negotiate (qtd. in Hasan). The United States needs a new approach, one that starts with a more diplomatic solution aimed at pushing all sides to the negotiating table. The only way the U.S can resolve this crisis is by working together with the Syrian government and getting other countries to exert their influence and persuade the Syrian government to turn in their enormous stockpile of chemical weapons. The idea of military intervention will just increase the casualties in both sides. For example, after NATO s air assault on Yugoslavia kicked off in March 1999, the number of civilian casualties and refugees in Kosovo went up, not down. In Iraq and Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocents lost their lives at the hands of western troops as well as home grown terrorists (Hasan). Parameters such as the Momentum Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. [5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the Displacement Thickness, δ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free streamlines are displaced in the y direction due to the formation of the boundary layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the mass flow rate per unit area. This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower, meaning less flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate for this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be displaced. The distance it displaced is the δ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Another factor is the Momentum Thickness, ϴ. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of freestream fluid carrying a momentum flow rate equal to the reduction in momentum flow rate caused by the formation of the boundary layer. Closer to the surface of the object, the flow is slower. This means that the momentum is also slower. ϴ is a measurement of the compensation that makes us the momentum flow rate that was lost due to the formation of the boundary layer. The momentum thickness is useful in determining the skin friction drag on a surface. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. This novel provides an inside look on both, Hemingway s time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed and unified memoir on Hemingway s early years in Paris. It is important to understand that Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to Hemingway s original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions are very different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person. Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished, ... Audiences favor this story because of the emotions evoked from a tale of love that sees two young souls torn apart. However, Romeo and Juliet when under my own definition of tragedy, does not resemble a tragic play. While the death of Mercutio and the deaths of Romeo and Juliet seem tragic, the story does not show one failing when trying to reach their full potential, instead the audience sees a forbidden love and death as a result, which does not demonstrate tragedy. Instead, Romeo and Juliet face flaws from within their families and society, forcing them to stay apart due to conflict. While both Romeo and Juliet try to reach the goal of being together and fail, the flaws of others cause the conflict, not the flaws of themselves. My definition surrounds the idea that the flaws of oneself leads to his or her demise, meaning that the play misses a key characteristic of the definition of tragedy. Both characters seem to die a tragic death, however, their death can only be considered sad or upsetting, especially to the audience. This play instead consists of somber scenes that show aspects of a tragedy, but not enough to place this play in a tragic category in the classic definition or in my own definition because the flaws of the main characters do not cause the fall of the characters as they try to reach their full potential. We propose to defeat the above limitation by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The regularization term in Eq. (1) promotes the sparsity of the deformation corrected dataset〖 T〗 _θ.L, instead of L. Here, Φ(u) indicates an arbitrary prior to exploit the redundancy in the data; λ is the corresponding regularization parameter. The primary advantage of the proposed algorithm is that it can be utilized with any spatio temporal priors on the deformation corrected dataset. The particular priors can be chosen relying upon the particular application. The capability of the algorithm to handle arbitrary image priors makes this methodology definitely different from classical motion compensation algorithms that register each frame to a specific fully sampled frame. The deformation field in Eq. (1) is assumed to be parametrically represented in terms of the parameters. For example, Θ is the set of B spline coefficients if a B spline model is used to represent the deformation field as in [24] and [25]. In this case, the spatial smoothness of the deformation map is controlled by the grid spacing of the B spline map. The spatial smoothness requirements can also be explicitly forced using regularization constraints on the deformation field as in [26]. Our approach is closely related to [26]. Specifically, we split the deformation from the l_1 norm by introducing an auxiliary variable g. This enables us to reformulate the unconstrained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The key of the abstract is to emphasize the strength of ethics and moral behavior while conducting the audit (pp. 305 306). Introduction. The author studied professional ethics and auditor independence at small and medium firms. The researcher compared ethics with values, and laid emphasis on the credibility as one of the most important ethics element (p. 306). The concept of auditor independence and ethics has significantly changed for the last century. There was a drastic move toward the neutrality in reporting. The main objective of research is to analyze two terms independence of mind and independence in appearance; and examine perceptions of independent auditors (pp. 307 308). The study is important because it investigates professional ethics as the key of quality assurance services. The researcher considered two problems of the study: shifts in regulations affect the auditors behavior, and changes in settings and culture of businesses (p. 305). Literature Review. The author used a systematic review of literature in the research. The researcher examined studies of Gill and Cosseral (1996), The Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, and Guidance Note on Independence of Auditors to analyze the word independence in depth. European notions of modernity transformed Egypt into a society where the female peasantry became the most oppressed class. These colonial influences produced an economy, which satisfied the needs of Europe and frustrated the needs of the Egyptian peasantry. Prior to the early 1820s, the Egyptian peasantry practiced a subsistence economy, which allowed the peasant family to feed and maintain itself. The families were left relatively autonomous as state officials had little interest in this class with the exception of the payment of taxes. Under this system, women in the Egyptian peasantry were able to lead a somewhat egalitarian existence. Although tasks were divided according to gender, hours of labor were relatively equal. Muhammad Ali s rise to power resulted in an immediate change in the economy. Ali had a strong affinity for the modernity of Europe and actively attempted to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Year Round School Research Paper Jazlyn Roberts Argumentative Essay Year round schools operate 180 days a year just like a traditional school calendar. The difference between year round schooling and a traditional school schedule is that there are small breaks in between instead of a 3 month summer vacation. • 28. The Greenhouse Effect And Global Warming The greenhouse effect and global warming are issues that are talked about by geologists all the time. The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth at temperatures that are livable. Energy from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse gasses and become trapped in the atmosphere. Some of the most common greenhouse gasses are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. If there were no greenhouse gasses, very few rays would be absorbed and the earth would be extremely cold. When too many rays are absorbed, the earth s atmosphere starts to warm, which leads to global warming. Global warming can lead to many problems that affect the environment in which we live. In order to talk about global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Methane in the atmosphere is generated by biological activity related to rice cultivation, leaks in domestic and industrial gas lines, and the digestive process of domestic livestock, especially cattle. An environmental effect of global warming is the fact that higher temperatures will lead to a change in the water cycle. Some places may experience more rain. Warmer temperatures will cause a greater amount of evaporation from lakes, rivers, and oceans. In some areas this could be good, and in others it could be considered bad. In northern regions of the United States, an increase in the temperature and amount of rain could actually extend the growing season of crops. This would in turn mean more money for farmers in the northern region. It could also hurt some farmers. Too much rain is bad for some crops. Certain areas will actually get less rain, which would lead to more droughts and have a negative impact on crops. Warm and wet weather is usually a factor that promotes tropical storms. Global warming would lead to tropical storms appearing with greater frequency. More rain will also force plant life to adjust. Forests and plant life migrate naturally, but scientists say that global warming would cause them to migrate at a much faster rate. If the climate changes the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says, some forest species in North America will shift by as much as 300 miles to the north (www.pirg.org/enviro/global_w/fact.htm). In looking at the historical Brazilian family structure, there are two models based on ethnic, cultural diversity. Neder (as cited in Torres Dessen, 2008) notes that the first type of Brazilian family is from the family of African slaves who are a culturally diverse. Consequently, they do not have a single African family structure, but a variety of family structures, such as matriarchy, patriarchy and polygamy (2008, p.196). Willems (1953) notes that upper and middle class Brazilian family structure is different that of the lower class Brazilian who comprise the overwhelming majority of the Brazilian people. After marriage, in the upper and middle class family structure, the husband takes the role of the dominant authoritarian father who actively regulates the sexual behaviour of the woman. The woman must abstain from any activities or relations that could jeopardize the sexual monopoly her husband has over her. The women are often beaten or even killed when caught committing extra marital offences and yet the wife is meant to be okay with having a promiscuous husband (1953, p.341). The wife is not expected to have a close and intimate relationship with the husband, but rather to be devoted mother and housekeeper. This lack of intimacy often results in friction and conflict. By contrast, lower class Brazilian family do not actively chaperone the sexual behaviours of their women and girls. The woman is in control of her sexuality, and violent retaliation for unfaithfulness is relatively non existent in the lower class Brazilian family. Nonetheless, it is a patriarchal family structure as consent for marriage still needs to be obtained from the father (1953, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Fozen Evil Vs Evil What is the violation of a moral code, the opposite of good, and the ultimate definition of everything bad? Evil has several clear cut definitions scattered throughout dictionaries. In reality, evil is a theme so prevalent in all spheres of life, it has near limitless forms. The word evil has come to symbolize a divide between the good samaritan and the callous monster. Evil is used as a blanket statement to describe anything harmful to life or existence. Poachers destroying the life of endangered wildlife for profit can be called evil. The callous monster that is driven by hatred and a thirst for violence is evil. Ideas concerning evil have been strung along through the schools of theology, the minds of society, and the theories of philosophy throughout the history of mankind. Evil can come in many different forms, even in a person you love. The film Frozen has a great example of this kind of evil. Ana falls for a seemingly nice boy named Hans, Prince Hans. How Transnational Corporations Affect the Sovereignty of a Nation Analysts agree that TNCs have altered the international relations principles that were once dominated by nation state relations (Kline, 2005).Transnational Corporations have in many ways exploited the weaknesses in the territorially guarded national laws. In many developing countries, organizations affiliated to external control have challenged and in some instances threatened government sovereignty. Economically stable countries such as the United States of America, have attempted to extend their influence to other countries of the world through TNC. This situation is what led to governments endorsing the non interference policy in national political affairs (United Nations, 2003). Interesting to note is the role that non governmental organizations played in this debate. Nongovernmental organizations have been known to not only exert political pressure on governments with little democratic space, but also collaborate with TNCs in this quest. (Heinrich, 2001). For example, many NGOs sort the active involvement of TNC in removal of the apartheid regime in South Africa. This in return, has created tension between these governments and the NGOs with the NGOs calling for the increased political involvement of the TNCs. Transnational Corporations have been steadfast in calling for respect, support and promotion of human rights (Kline, 2005). This has been done in reference to the United Nations Universal ... • 36. Analysis Of The Poem Not Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell Maira L. Herrera Sanchez Professor Emily N. Bartz English 203 9 February 2015 Sex Over Time in Andrew Marvell s, To His Coy Mistress Sex and lust have changed greatly over time, especially since the late 1600s. In the poem, To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell the relationship between sex and time is rather passionate, but shifts as Marvell metaphorically describes time. The horrifying tone put on the metaphors, allusions, and the hyperboles play an important role in the understanding of Marvell s meaning on sex and lust of the speaker s lady over time. The idea that each sex act shortened someone s life has come a long way. On the other hand it is believed that the message Marvell was trying to address was how the cold lady threatened the speakers love for her. Another idea is that the poem is based on death, and how everything will one day die, rather than the passionate approach. I will prove how these 2 ideas are wrong. In lines Marvell introduces the relation between time and the lady at fault, the speaker wants to love her but it is difficult, Had we but world enough, and time, This Coyness, lady, were no crime (Mays 739). Marvell shows how if they had time she would not be at fault, more specifically their sexual acts, and lust for one another would be the opposite of sinful. Marvell introduces the Ganges side in line 5 to begin to show that idea of motion and time. Then he emphasizes the motion of time even further when Marvell uses the ... History of REST Since 1994, the REST architectural style has been used to guide the design and development of the architecture for the modern Web (Roy T. Fielding, 2000) When HTTP , Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), was being developed by the Internet Engineering Taskforce there was a need for a model to be created of how the WWW should actually work. This idealized model of the interactions within a web application, is what was then later referred to as the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style and it became the foundation for the modern Web architecture, providing the guiding principles by which flaws in the preexisting architecture could be identified and extensions validated prior to deployment. (Roy T. Fielding., et al., 2005) World Wide Web Initially the web was meant for researchers but around 1993 it became evident that more entities were likely to use it as usage was starting to spread to campus dorms, clubs houses personal home pages and later to the institutions and commercial companies. When individuals started publishing their personal information, on different topics they felt fanatic about this social network effect started a rapid growth of sites that still goes on to this day.
