The Origins and History of Corn
Indigenous to the Western hemisphere, corn has traveled all around the world being the center of
religious practices, cuisine, and today drives food production, but the exact origin of this miracle
vegetable is uncertain. Reported by National Geographic s David Braun, corn was developed and
cultivated somewhere in central Mexicoover 8,700 years ago. Maize, another name for corn, was
not found naturally in the wild, but came about due to the domestication of a variety of similar
species from the ancient Native Americans. Corn derived from the teosinte plant, which is a wild
grass containing kernels smaller than modern day corn. According to an article in The New York
Times, during the 20th century few scientists could confirm the relation between teosinte and corn,
but in the 1930 s, Dr. George W. Beadle conducted many genetic experiments with the two plants
and discovered that they had very similar chromosomes. Beadle concluded that the two plants were
members of the same species, with maize being the domesticated form of teosinte (Carroll).
Native Americans that migrated from Mexico brought along corn to various parts of America.
Therefore, maize dispersed into the southwestern regions of the United States and to Peru. In
addition to this agricultural migration, corn managed to make its way across the Atlantic Ocean to
Europe. In an article written by Lance Gibson and Garren Benson of Iowa State University s
Department of Agronomy, corn was introduced to Europeans during

Prosopagnosia
Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder that makes it difficult or virtually impossible for people
to distinguish between human faces in the worst cases, even the faces of close family members.
There are obvious advantages to being able to recognize people, one of which is to distinguish
between friends and enemies. Fortunately, most humans, especially infants, are able to do so with
great ease. According to various studies, it seems that at the age of just a few months, infants begin
to fine tune their facerecognition skills for the types of faces which they see most often, usually
faces of people of their own race or ethnicity (National Research Council, 2004). The term
prosopagnosiacomes from the Greek words for face and lack of... Show more content on

J., Quinn, P. C., Slater, A. M., Lee, K., Ge, L., Pascalis, O., 2007). Also shown from the multiple
studies on infants, it has been made known that many prosopagnosiacs have suffered from the face
recognition impairment for most of their lives, perhaps since birth. Due to these newer studies, it
has been proven that many people suffer from prosopagnosia without experiencing any
neurological damage. This form of the neurological disorder is frequently referred to as
developmental or congenital prosopagnosia. For these individuals, they merely fail to develop
normal face processing abilities despite normal intellectual and perceptual functions. Even more
recent evidence proposes that there may be a genetic contribution to developmental prosopagnosia;
several case studies reported at least one first degree relative who also suffers from the face
recognition impairment (Bate,

Quiz All Over Our Faces !
This Panel Show, entitled Quiz All Over Our Faces! , will be an amalgamation of several
different modern TV shows of the same vein, borrowing certain aspects but not making, per say,
a carbon copy of the panel shows in question. Through this we plan to create something that is
not so much original but a fresh take on the formula of the panel show. The majority of shows
which influence will be drawn from will be of a comedic disposition. So in saying that, the set
up of the show will be, that two teams comprised of two people will compete against one another
through a number of sections and based on how they perform a points system will distinguish as
to who the winning side is a all times The host of the show being the one who puts these
challenges to them and distinguishes who is the victor at the end of each section. Like most shows
we will begin with an opening VT, comprised of motion graphicsand pre recorded material that will
be added in. The motion graphics themselves will be created with the programme After Effects
and for a more efficient work flow, an online template will be used. The pre recorded material will
be of the guests and possibly previous content which has recorded in the studio. At this point in the
show both a colour scheme, a flavour of what the show is about and the name of the show will be
established. Moving on from this, the Host will introduce himself and then the contestants either
side of him, lower thirds used respectively for each

The Construction Industry Affecting Australia s Economy
The construction sector drives a country s economy. In Australia, the construction industry is a
major role of economic growth and is the fourth largest contributor to Australia s gross domestic
product (GDP) (ABS 2010). By 2056, economy activity is estimated to increase five times, energy
consumption and manufacturing activity to triple with the population growth increase by over
50% (Akadiri, Chinyio and Olomolaiye 2012). With construction industry affecting the economy,
ultimately, it also affects the social, cultural and environmental aspects of the country.

How Does Golding Show Conflict Between Ralph, Jack Piggy...
In lord of the flies, Golding presents a strong sense of conflict, between the boys, the boys and
nature and the boy s personal lives. The theme of conflict is an important one within the novel, as
it helps to represent the disagreement and fighting of World War II which was happening during
the time that Lord of the flies was written and that Golding experienced first hand. Golding s main
message in Lord of the flies was how cruel men could be to one another and conflictis an obvious
link to this idea.
We begin to see conflict very early in the novel, even before the story begins, as Golding tries to
introduce the key themes at the start of the novel. The boys are actually brought to the island itself
by the conflicts of World War II.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding could be making a point that your background does not necessarily determine how
intelligent you are and that a lower class child can be very intelligent.
We experience more tension between Ralph and Piggy due to Ralph s attitude that he is
superior, through linguistic conflict. Piggy continuously asks Ralph questions, such as what s
your name? , you haven t seen the others have you? and making comments and telling Ralph
about himself: My auntie told me not to run...on account of my asthma and I expect we ll want
to know all there names . He is enthusiastic and keen to talk to Ralph, possibly due to the usual
lack of attention he receives back home. However Ralph tried to be offhand and not too
obviously uninterested and replied to Piggy s comments with just a shake of his head or not
even acknowledging him at all. As well as this, when Piggy asked Ralph his name he waited to
be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made . This yet again shows
how Ralph thinks of himself as superior to Piggy and doesn t feel he needs to treat or show
piggy the same respect and interest that he gave to Ralph. Piggy also partly creates a gap between
himself and Ralph by following Ralph and showing so much interest in him. Piggy hung steadily
at his shoulder and stood by him, breathing hard . This could show that Ralph has a natural sense
of leadership about him which makes Piggy feel as though he should look up to

The American Legion s Product Development By Implementing...
Strategic Alternatives The few strategies that I suggest that the American legion begins to use are
to attempt product development by implementing social media as a marketing tool. By using
social media as a huge part of the marketing this allows the American Legion to see exactly how
many people are viewing their ads. It also gives them the chance to customize who they exactly
want to target. This can allow for less old school marketingsuch as magazines, post cards,
newspapers, or ads which all of these allowed the Legion to waste of lot of money per year on
them. As I have stressed many times throughout this paper, the net assets have been cut in over

Strategy Choice and Rationale If the American Legion reached out to their competitors such as
collaborating with the Wounded Warriors Project, Disables American Veterans (DAV), Veterans
of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) would be effectively
embracing trade offs with offering something to other organizations as well effectively gaining
something from other organizations as well. I would love to see the American Legion get
together with all of these organizations, putting a large event on, have a few celebrities show up
as well and really put the American Legion on the map and leveraging other outlets than just their
own endeavors. Having a strategy of strategies is crucial especially at the tipping point of where
the Legion is as a whole; in class we have discussed many great ideas as a small group of
individuals with business mindsets, as outsiders and some from younger generations are able to put
our twist on the Strategies of the American Legion and pinpoint both the strengths and weaknesses.
The Legion needs to have a plan to execute these strategies and roll them out and act on them.

Seraphina Poem Analysis
In the land of Novyd lived a bard named Spero, who always wore his heart on his sleeve. He
traveled from court to court, charming the nobles with his songs and poems about love. In each
court, Spero longed to meet the love of his life: he pursued any woman who caught his eye,
offering them a piece of his heart in exchange for their affection. One evening in the castle
courtyard, he came across a noblewoman surrounded by her handmaidens. They trembled in her
presence, scampering away like frightened rats once she waved them away. She was Seraphina,
the fairest lady of the court. No man could win her over. Nonetheless, Spero was determined to
woo her. He spent the next few days picking the most vibrant flowers in the garden: blue... Show

woman, who introduced herself as Lyra. Spero sang his song for her, not a note out of place, then
handed her a piece of his heart. She accepted with delight. The next few days passed without
incident. They were a happy couple, smiling and holding hands at every opportunity. The bard
found himself performing better each night on stage and in bed for his new love ignited all his
senses. But one night, Lyra came to him in tears. I ve lost the piece of your heart, she cried, if
you will give me another, I promise I shan t lose it. And so Spero did, for he knew that lovers
ought to forgive each other. He felt himself grow weaker as he gave her a new piece, but he
wanted nothing more than to see Lyra happy. A couple of days passed and she lost another
piece, and another, and another, until Spero finally drew the line. His voice was hoarse as of
late, and he could no longer sing as well as he used to. I cannot give you any more pieces of my
heart, he said. You do not value it enough to take care of it. Lyra was hurt by his words, but knew
that her chances of being forgiven were spent. She gathered her belongings from his bedchamber
and bade him a tearful farewell. After giving a weak performance for the court, and enduring his
audience s painful silence Spero decided to stay and

Fieldwork Process Analysis
According to Williams and Menendez (2015) fieldwork process comprises of three factors that
create momentum; results oriented action, awareness of observations, and other practices to
generate new behaviors (p. 175). Although, fieldwork is a great strategy to create momentum it is
important not to assign excessive fieldwork to the client (Williams Menendez, 2015). The purpose
of fieldwork or homework is to produce affirmative energy (momentum) between the client and the
coach. Moreover, it maintains the client motivated, driven, and focus resulting in a positive attitude
helping the client achieving his/her goal.
As a future coach, I believe that helping clients keep the momentum throughout the coaching
process is vital to the success of the clients. Having and maintaining a proactive relationship with
the coach is possible at the beginning of each session every time the coach and client work
together. By creating a judgement free zone where clients can faultlessly and openly discuss with
the coach their goal and what is impeding them on attaining that goal. A judgment free zone propel

The Constitution Is Revered For Both Its Age And Its Brevity
The U.S Constitution is revered for both its age and its brevity. The Constitution is a short and
concise document has been able to stand the test of time and it has remained the ultimate guide of
principles for law creation and enforcement. With that being said, the words of the Constitution are
unclear in many respects. Politicians have debates over the Constitutiondue to the reason that it is
difficult to figure out what the Framers meant when they originally wrote the Constitution.
According to the Constitution, the Supreme Court has the authority to decide if a law passed by
Congress is Constitutional. However, the vagueness of the Constitution allows for the Supreme
Court to interpret the Constitution differently since they have to figure out how to apply it to the
twenty first century.
The vagueness of constitution, while enabling the country to progress, has also been the source of
conflict among the individuals in government office. In terms of the Supreme Court, there is a
fundamental philosophical debate on how the vagueness of the constitution should be interpreted.
Both sides adhere strictly to the written words of the Constitution there is no debate about that. But
much of the constitutional rhetoric is open for interpretation, creating two schools of thought. The
first thought, originalism argues that the Supreme Court should interpret the constitution solely to
reflect the original views of the framers. Not only should the exact text be considered, but

Southeast Team Master Plan Of Evaluation
Southeast Team Master Plan of Evaluation A master plan of evaluation serves to meet the
expectations standards of academia. The plan is designed to track and measure the success of the
planned outcomes and organized around an evaluation model and theory set by the program
designers (Keating, 2015). Furthermore, as a systematic and written document, the master plan is
usually based on evaluation frameworks, which guide the activities for gathering and analyzing
data. The plan provides the tools for continuous evaluation to identify successes and shortcomings
of the program (Ellis, 2016). In continuation, this paper will present the third part of the course
project outline for the Southeast region curriculum plan. The paper will focus on the evaluation
approach that will be used for Tampa General Hospital s (TGH) 2016 Hospital Consumer

VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and
increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated
pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa,
Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals
for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting
in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice
interventions that nurses should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003
CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization
associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The
CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves,
suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB), education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic
rinse. Studies suggested that best practices for reducing VAP were not consistently implemented.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram positive
Staphylococcus aureus were the two most common bacteria linked to VAP (Babcock et al., 2004).

Greek Columns And The Doric Order Of Greek Architecture
Greek architecture has survived throughout history and plays a major role in many structures today.
Some of the modern structures that resemble Greek styling and architecture are government
buildings. By building some of our most important structures with Greek designs, it shows our
current emphasis on Greek architecture. There are three distinct orders, or types, of architecture.
These are the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Possibly one of the most distinguished aspects
supplied by Greek architecture is the column. Columns were prevalent in Greek society and were
found in many of their temples and important structures such as the Parthenon. The first and most
simplistic order of Greek architecture is the Doric order. According to the article, Doric Columns
and the Doric Order of Classical Architecture, Doric architecture is characterized by columns that
Doric columns are, stouter than those of the Ionic or Corinthian orders. Their smooth, round
capitals are simple and plain compared to the other two Greek orders. The capital is the very top
piece of the column that connects the column to the rest of the structure, or the entablature. Unlike
other orders, Greek Doric columns did not have bases; instead the column was fixed directly on the
foundation of the structure. This simplistic design was implemented on one of the most well
known works of architecture from Ancient Greece, the Parthenon. An article titled, The Parthenon,
describes how the Parthenon is a, Doric

A Negative Way Of People Can Make Others Feel Welcome And...
After considering the list of ways people can make others feel welcome and valued or like
outsiders: I have come to the conclusion that each event listed could be interpreted in a positive
way and used for good or may be interpreted in a negative way and used to fuel my oppression.
For example, Whether we look at people when we talk with them , one way of looking at that
would be to interpret that person as snobbish and they are not paying attention. Another way of
looking at it would be to understand that they are shy, or uncomfortable with people. The negative
reaction focuses on Me , my wants, my needs, and how that person is not fulfilling them. The
positive reaction focuses on Them , understanding their wants, their needs, and how that person
might be feeling. I challenge you to look at each of those situations and find two results: one that
hinders my growth and one that excels my growth.
I believe the goal is always to make others feel welcome and valued. Although, people say stupid
things and their intentions are genuinely good. In my opinion it is never o.k. to intentionally berate
another human being. Likewise, if you cannot say something encouraging do not speak. If you are
asked, speak the truth in love. Likewise, sometimes the truth hurts and we like to justify our actions
and blame others.

not mean animosity towards me or anyone else. We must use discernment to

Aaron Beck And Albert Ellis
Regardless of its debilitating effects on the mind, anxiety and depression can be treated effectively
through means of therapy or medication. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis are the two brilliant pioneers
of cognitive therapy who have both developed effectual methods of redirection for those who seek
assistance regarding their mental health. Cognitive therapyas a whole is centralized in guiding clients
to walk through their thoughtprocess in order to identify distorted patterns of thinking as well as
how to distinguish between reality and their negative perceptions of life events. Aaron Beck s
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses upon the correlation between cognitive thinking,
emotion, and behavior and how all three can inevitably compel an individual to interpret life
situations in a negative manner and adopt maladaptive responses and behavior in return. Beck
proposed that the cognitive triad previously mentioned consists of a negative view of oneself, the
world, and of the future is ultimately what drives the individual to have distorted and maladaptive
perceptions and thoughts. Meanwhile, Albert Ellis believed that irrational thinking is the culprit for
negatively skewed perceptions of life s outcomes. His form of rational emotive behavior therapy
(REBT) reinforces the idea that irrational thinking is what leads the individual to perceive life
negatively or enables maladaptive behaviors to occur. For instance, when an activating event or
objective situation leads to

Civic Engagement Research Paper
The Politics of Civil Engagement
The United States was founded on the principles of having a democracy that contrasted the British
monarchy that had once controlled them. In order for the newly created democracy to function
properly, citizens were required to actively participate and be aware of the government. In addition,
civilians had to make an effort to support their communities. In the present, the same standards are
held towards all civilians. Without civic engagement, the United States democracy would fall from
grace, as only the individuals who actively care about politics and their communities would have
input on decisions that could impact the lives of others who live in the same city, state, and country.
The Role and Importance of Civic Engagement
Civic engagement acts as the life support of democracy and can be interpreted as two halves. One

Billy Collins Rhetorical Analysis
The world of writing is a vast and thoroughly confusing place, so vast in fact that it could not be
navigated without an in depth navigational chart. This chart is composed of and organized by
terms that help us get a clearer picture of what we want to see. These terms are genre, audience,
and most importantly rhetorical situation. These terms are all interrelated in which you can t fully
explore without having each one identified. One of the motives why writers delve into themselves,
to put pen to paper so to speak is to express their views on a topic.
What exactly do the terms that make up this navigation chart mean and how are they interconnected.
Let s explore that now, genre is an identification and classification of writing. ... Show more content

Even The King Analysis
In the short stories we read death was a strong comparison between all of the readings. In Even
the Queen by Connie Willis, the protagonist is worried about her sister who joined the cyclists.
Cyclists do not ride bicycles they menstruate. The name cyclist comes from cycles because they
do not take a pill which causes women to not menstruate. The story is based in a society where
women are not treated equally so and the pill is just one examples that men do to suppress women.
Some women will not conform and turn to the cyclists. However, cyclists are not some care group,
they are considered terrorists and attack public buildings. One thing that comes with the job is
murder. These women go around assassinating men and in turn are hunted down... Show more

The story starts with a man named Spencer looking out towards his pool where the pool cleaner
was. The pool cleaner was not very cautious and would hit the surrounding bonsai trees. The trees
were very delicate so leaves and branches would fall off disrupting the symmetry that the
protagonist had worked so hard to achieve. Spencer had talked to the cleaner about being more
careful but it did nothing to help with the problem. On that particular day Spencer saw the
cleaner knock a major branch of his favorite tree. The story then jumps back to Spencer s past to
when he got his first bonsai. He had illegally given a patient of his extra medicine because he
was out and was about to go on a trip. As a token of gratitude the man gave spencer his first
bonsai and his addiction only grew from there. It then goes on to talk about Spencer s growing
obsession towards the plants and how he began to read and take classes about magic. It then
goes back to the present where the pool cleaner has disappeared. His car is still there but the
cleaner and his pool skimmer are missing. Surrounding the tree that the cleaner had just broke
was an artificial pool. Behind the pool was a little fisherman but if you looked closer you would
realize that the figure was not oriental and did not have a fishing pole but a miniature pool
skimmer. And if you got even closer you could hear the figure calling for help. This story is about
death because Spencer had taken magic classes and practices voodoo and eventually killed the pool

Legal Issues Game Developers Face
Legal Issues Game Developers Face
Every industry must work within the confines of the law. It should come as no surprise that the
video game industry is not immune. Common red flags like Copyright infringement, using the
likeness of others, or 1st amendment concerns, are volatile problems that can hinder the progress
with any studio. Learning how to identify major issues such as these can help a company avoid
legal ramifications in the long run. Three interesting cases that highlight these issues and can be
used as great examples are: Tetris v. Xio, Davis/Dupree/Keller/Ferragamo v. Electronic Artsand
Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants Association.
The first case I wanted to point out was Tetris v. Xio. This was a case that dealt with copyright
infringement issues. Tetris Holdings, LLC, own the popular tile matching puzzle gameTetris. They
found themselves in a legal battle with Xio Interactive Inc., the creators of Mino, a puzzle game
of a similar look and feel. Tetris, LLC accused Xio Inc. of creating a game that was strikingly
similar to their title. Xio argued that they had only copied the non protectable elements of the
game and should not be held liable to any copyright infringement laws. Unfortunately for Xio,
after delving into the games further, it was discovered that Mino, copied 14 of it s protected
elements to include the size and shape of the games playing filed to the composition of the blocks
that fell. In the software world, you can only protect

Living Conditions During Ww2
Several conditions in the Nazi concentration camps and work camps made it very hard for
children to survive. The camps were tremendously ruthless. The epidemics that broke out in the
camps, including the awful living conditions were very diverse mainly during the years that the
camps operated. They were also uniquely contrasting in each different camp. Whereas many other
conditions such as, executions, hard labor, etc. had a great effect of death of the children, some
conditions were worse than others causing the children to pass away real quick. Medical
experiments and living conditions had the greatest effect of death of children in the Nazi work
camps during WWII. Not only were the children involuntarily used for medical experiments they
were also forced to live in brutal living conditions.
Children died very easily because of how they were being treated. They became very weak. They
were not fed the right amount of calories and were not treated properly. Feeding the prisoners in the
concentration camps was a big issue during the holocaust. The Jewish prisoners were fed three
times thought the day which was spread out evenly between the morning, noon and evening. It

Daniel Gilbert Analysis
Something Socrates said about happiness was similar to that of Daniel Gilbert. Socrates
believed that in order to be happy and live a good life, you need to live a life of contemplation
and self evaluation. He worded it as developing the soul, which basically means work on yourself
and just be able to reflect, and develop your ideas. I believe this is similar to Gilbert because they
both understood the importance of self reflection in leading you to happiness. For Gilbert, reflecting
on what you ve experienced and talking to other people will help you determine your own
definition of what makes you happy. This is similar to gilbert because they both involve self
reflection to develop ideas. A difference between the two however, is that Daniel... Show more

For Epictetus this applies to life in general, things like family deaths, deaths of loved ones, etc.
Dan Ariely s form of uncontrollable destiny is the inability to control actions you make in the
future. This means not being able to control your desire to snooze, your desire to procrastinate,
and your desire to eat something really unhealthy. Basically things like new year s resolutions
are all pointless because our future selves will never actually deal with what we planned. The
difference between these two are that Ariely s type is actually controllable, contrary to what I
just said. Controllable in the sense that you have to counteract the destiny with another destiny.
For example, if you know for sure that you are going to snooze the next morning, you create an
alarm clock that is super loud and you put it in another room. This makes it so your future self
has no choice but to get up and go get the alarm clock. Whereas Epictetus s type of destiny is
truly uncontrollable. The only way to find happiness through this type of destiny is to mold your
desires and expectations to the reality of your situation. This means having things like realistic
goals and realistic relationships. So these two are both aware of having to deal with uncontrollable
situations. Dan Ariely is a living example since he was a burn victim that managed to overcome his
pain and is able to inspire others from the

(Plunkett, 2014). Based on the dynamism with which technology is advancing, the number of
expected and the often set goals are increasing which must be achieved in an attempt to keep the
company up and running. One of the major areas that need proper attention and updating is the
networking department. Maintaining the highest level of dynamism and security in the integrated
network is critical especially with the recent developments in technology (Lavan, et.al, 2007).
Further, the company has recently experienced growth in their customer base and size and as such
increasing the possible challenges most likely to face the network. As such, it would be necessary
for the company to develop a more integrative network architecture design to continue enjoying the
positive growth both currently and in the days to come. This paper seeks to present a more concrete
network architecture design that improves on the current network infrastructure of NGN Co. to
integrate the most recent wireless technologies for better and more reliable connectivity within the

Descriptive Essay On Rain Forest
It was two years ago, in Australia. My parents, my sisters and I were visiting the country in
camping car, and we had decided to go on an excursion in a rainforest. The weather was enjoyable,
there were a couple of clouds in the sky, just enough to make the heat bearable. We had walked in
many other forests, but only in other countries. Me and my sisters were very excited to walk
through our first Australian rainforest. If we had known what was awaiting us there we would have
certainly not chosen to go at all. That day would teach us to never walk in an Australian rain forest
unless you are sure, and absolutely certain about the weather.
We were walking, exploring the forest. The vegetation was dense. And the sun hardly came through

Dad, she said in a scared voice what is this, it won t come off me! . As the words came out of her

Understanding that my little sister screamed Mom! I have some on my leg! We were all
panicking, we did not know how to get them off. My mother then had a really great idea :
I know what to do she stated.
What asked my two sisters in unison.
I know that salt repels leeches, and I also know there is salt in the mosquito repellent, so we
should try and spray the repellent on the leeches and see if that works. She answered.
Do it on me first! Screamed my two sisters, eager to get these disgusting blood suckers off their
skin.
After testing the repellent on a leech on my father s leg, the worm detached from our skin in a
spasmodic movement of what looked like pain. And so, quickly and effectively we started to get
rid of the leeches. Everyone had some on their skin, except me. I was glad I had taken what I
thought had been a piece of dirt off my leg, because there was no doubt now, that it was a leech.
Once we were sure that all of them were gone, we started thinking about how these worms got into
our clothes when we were walking, and instantly we knew: it was the rain. The leeches must have
been on branches and trees, and feeling our presence, have let themselves drop on us alongside the
drops of water. That thought in mind we went back to the camping car

Planned Market And Mixed Market Economies
Planned, Market, and Mixed Economies
Each country has its own economic system, a system for allocating its resources among its citizens,
both individual and organizations (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 11). There are three economic systems:
planned economies, market economies, and mixed market economies. Economic systems are
defined by how the five factors of productions are handled: labor, capital, entrepreneurs, physical
resources, and information resources. Factors of production are the resources that a country s
businesses use to produce goods and services (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 11).
Planned Economies
A planned economy can be defined as an economy that relies on a centralized government to
control all or most factors of production and to make all or most production and allocation
decisions (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 12). There are two forms of planned economies: communism, in
which the government owns and operates all factors of productions, and socialism, where the
government owns and operates only selected factors of productions. China and North Korea are
both examples of current communist countries; Denmark and Sweden are both examples of current
socialist countries.
Planned Economies and Labor Factor of Production
People who work for businesses provide labor. Labor, sometimes called human resources, includes
the physical and intellectual contributions people make while engaging in economic productions
(Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 11). In a communist planned

The Writings Of Olaudah Equiano And Elizabeth Keckley
Autobiographical Similarities
The writings of Olaudah Equiano and Elizabeth Keckley are of the highest admiration. As they
spoke on their experiences with an intoxicating mixture of vibrancy and precision, they allowed the
reader to come along for the journey without getting lost. Most commendable, is that the writers
were able to leave subtle hints that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep
the readers engaged. There is a vital point to highlight from the workings of both authors how
humble and vulnerable their writings maintained as they were written during the peak of their
success. Therefore, the common theme is how they foreshadow their success without neglecting to
pay homage to where they came from. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her first chapter appropriately named Where I was Born , Keckley mentions that she was not
only born a slave but refers to slavery in a unique way that offers a hint of foreshadowing. She
mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but then I had been raised in a hardy
school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to prepare myself to render assistance to others
(Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so profound about that statement is that hardy school was a
double entendre used to refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence
which she carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also
equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as a renowned
seamstress. Another detail that Equiano incorporated within his writing, is the meaning of his
name. As he says in the text I was named Olaudah, which, in our language, signifies vicissitude
or fortune also, one favoured, and having a loud voice and well spoken (Gates Jr. Smith 121).
Equiano was a man who was the youngest born son to village leaders who owned slaves, became
a captive of slavery himself, briefly worked in the fields as a slave before following his master
overseas and ultimately buying his own freedom. What s most profound throughout that, is the fact
that he used his voice to help others who are stuck where he was able to break free. PBS has an

The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century
The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what
is expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church
like St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the
church and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of
Rotterdam who was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before
Luther told his Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Lutherthe aspect of the beginning of the section is
very intriguing, offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced
this new conviction, it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of
indulgences in 1517 provoked him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known
as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther 427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved
the sins of Luther and the Catholic church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic
church due to the change of how people bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic
church offered an indulgencefor pay, such as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and
a preacher yes, and as learned and experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty (
Martin Luther 428). By following the sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with
Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would
be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther 429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and
questioning what one should do with pastors and preachers and how one can better that problem to
come up with a solution. The following quote sticks out due to the fact that the quote is setting
guidelines to how many should go about living their life, Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must
be on our guard that by talking much and with much insistence of faith, without any distinction and
explanation occasion be not given to the people to be lazy and slothful in works, whether before
faith is formed in charity or after ( Saint Ignatius of Loyola 446). One can about their life just

Islam Project, Shah, The Empire Of The Safavid Empire
Alix Barry
C C Period 6
Islam Project, Shah Ismail of the Safavid Empire
Ismail I lived during a turbulent time in Iran s history. It was a period of political fragmentation
and decentralization [Richard C. Martin]. He was the founder of the Safavid Empire. In 1501, he
named himself the Shah, king, of the empire and proclaimed Twelver religion the official religion
of state. It took him almost over a decade to consolidate his control over all of Iran, where most of
the Persian population still practiced as Sunni. His Qizilbash military was given the task to convert
anyone on Safavid territory to Twelver Islamand the army succeeded. Ismail was a remarkable
leader when he set his mind to it, yet the Ottoman empire instigated a war against the Safavid
empire because of the increase of Shia population. Ismail was caught by surprise and the
Qizilbash were defeated. The aftermath of the battle was severe; Ismail was so embarrassed by
the defeat he became inattentive to any Qizilbash work and military affairs of state. He broke
down and started to write poems about pious Muslims and how they worship their god. The shah
died at age 36, after becoming an alcoholic, but the Safavid empire continued for over 200 years
after. The Safavid Empire was founded on the unified front of their population, their military
strength and intolerance for other beliefs but their own. Great military strength and the ability to

Increase in the Unemployment Rates in the U.K.
The UK s unemployment rate reached its highest peak in 2011 at just under 2.7 million during the
recent recession which economists are calling the Great Recession (BBC News, 2014). Since,
however the fall in the rate of unemployment has not been as sharp as many predicted, concerns
have been raised over whether unemployment levels in this single period may have a long lasting
effect. The issue of hysteresis within the UK and the persistence of unemployment is what this
paper will focus on, as well as the reasons why the youth unemployment rate is much higher. Using
the Demand deficient theory of unemployment, which is the Keynesian view of unemployment that
suggest high real wages cause long term unemployment, I will examine whether this... Show more

Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the
accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase
in employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers,
which opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors
of the economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to
the UK s flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend
is the mining and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between
the periods of early 2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre
recession peak. However this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this
consequently could be a contributing factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest
sub industry of total production within the UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the
model of structural unemployment as the decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of
unemployment. The long term decline of such a large industry can often lead to long term
unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry, which is a common cause of hysteresis.
However this alone cannot be blamed for hysteresis. Blanchard and Summers wrote about three
reasons for hysteresis and unemployment persistence, one more

The Effects Of Nutrition On Health And Health
Health is a widely used term and every person s definition of health and being healthy can be vastly
different. There are many different ways to achieve good health and to be healthy, but one thing in
common that is important no matter what, is nutrition. Nutrition greatly influences our health and
can be detrimental in preventing or treating a disease. Prevention is crucial to stay healthy and free
of illness and disease and nutritionplays a huge part in this process. Nutrition is important in all
stages of life from pregnancy, birth, toddler, children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. Pregnancy
is arguably one of the most important phase in life, simply because a new human is being created.
It is important to start life off right and that can be achieved with proper nutrition.
Before a woman becomes pregnant, it is important to receive adequate nutrition. According to the
Maternal and Child Health journal, in order to ensure woman receive adequate nutrition advice in
time to make informed decisions regarding pregnancy, there needs to be further exploration into
effective nutrition education during preconception (Lucas, 2014). They also mention that nutrition
information received at 12 weeks is too late to be useful. Therefore, there are several factors to
consider even before conception. To start off, there are many deficiency problems that can arise
early in pregnancy and this can be prevented by receiving the adequate levels of folate the body

Decision to Move into an International Market
Terms and Definitions Upon a company making the decision to move into an international market
there are many economic terms, definitions and laws that are to be researched and understood.
While there are lots of terms and definitions, five of these terms include: multinational
corporations, economies of scale, imports and exports as part of GDP, foreign exchange market
and exchange rates and marginal rate of transformation. Each definition will be researched and
defined below and their importance to a company going global will be discussed.
Multinational Corporations
A multinational corporation or a MNC can be defined as a company operating in at least one
other country besides its home country. A MNC can be a closed system, in which it produces
within said country and sells to that country only. Most MNC s, though, are open systems in which
they produce in one country and sell to another. MNC s are driven by the law of supply and demand
. Supply and demand affect open systems differently as labor is in one country and the selling of
products in another and the cycle of products is on a much larger scale. A company looking to
become international, if incorporated, will become a multinational corporation.
II. Economies of Scale A. Factors that cause the cost of producing something to fall as the scale
of its output increases are known as economies of scale. An example is it might cost $5000 to
produce 200 copies of a book but only $6000 to produce

The Change in Food Production in Pollan’s The

Food production has changed drastically throughout the span of this country s history, shifting from
small scale farms into mega facilities that horde animals inhumanely. In Pollan s The Ominvore s
Dilemma, he showcases the transformative nature of food production throughout the years, by
emphasizing the commercialization and industrialization aspects of this continual foodevolution.
Though Pollan expresses his opinions on modern day methods of food production and
categorization of these means of production, he experiences the dilemma that is commonly faced
by many individuals in this day and age. Therefore, he undergoes the endeavor to find the solution
to this national dilemma.

Many consumers are not able to see where their food comes from, similarly to how the corn no
longer has the information of how it was produced. The change in food production also is
evident in the decline in personal nature via packaging. Two centuries ago, people were able to
purchase their corn from the farm where the corn had been grown and most likely where they had
developed a more personal linkage with the farmer on a local level. Now, the connection between
the source of consumer s food production and the consumer itself are separated by thousands of
miles, lacking communication, acknowledgement, and awareness of the production process. Pollan
implements something as simple as a produce sack to showcase the reality that modern day
consumers are denied their right to know where and how their food was developed, violating one
foundation of food justice: the right to know what one is eating.
A possible explanation for why food production has changed so much can be that its consumers
have also evolved as a society the commercialization of agriculture has culminated this alteration

The Success of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Essay
The Success of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 Part 1 Karl Marks was not Russian and he
died 34 years before the Russian revolution, he was a German who spent most his life in England.
He worked as a journalist but wrote books on history, religion, economics, society, and philosophy.
Marx hated the system of capitalism because he thought that it was capitalism that had produced
the problems of industry, poor living conditions and the social gap of the rich and poor. He thought
that the system destroyed people and made them greedy and that people only wanted something if
it was worth money. Karl Marx realised that there was not enough money to make everyone rich
but he did thin k the world... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His third and final solution was if people are working for the good of everyone else then there
will be no problems and everyone will trust each other. These are Karl Marx s views and how
they could be achieved. Vladimir Ilch Ulyanov, also known as Lenin which was a secret
codename he had adapted so he could not be caught by the government on plots to overthrow
them, was brought up in a well educated middle class home and he was the third out of six
children. He left school first in his class and looked to become a scholar. He looked set to
become a well educated and mature young man at the age of sixteen but things were soon to
change. As a teenager he took two harsh blows which led him on to become a revolutionist. The
first was of his fathers death when he was threatened with early retirement because of the
government s fear of public school education and had soon died after. The second was the death
of his eldest brother; he had been hanged for conspiring with a revolutionary terrorist group which
had plotted the assassination of Emperor Alexander 3rd. this made Lenin feel very bitter toward
the government and he felt as if he could change the country for the better. Lenin enrolled in Kazan
University, but he was quickly expelled as a radical troublemaker and after being accused of
joining an illegal secret student meeting he was

from one place to another and travel agencies generate the movement. So the travel agency is the
generator or a creator of the tourism. It plays a crucial role in the tourism as a brain in human
body. Without travel agency tourism will have no joint effort, no planning, and no programming.

Latino-American Heritage
The National Park Service and National Historic Landmark programs have listened to the call to
action and in the last 10 years have focused efforts on highlighting the contributions of Latino
Americans. In May 2011, the National Park Service launched the American Latino Heritage
Initiative. Its goal was to develop and implement, and advance the representation with in the
National Historic Landmarks Program. In the program s first year, 2011 2012, 20% of new
National Historic Landmarks were associated with Latino American heritage (Progress Report 1).
Another way that Latino American heritage was included at National Historic Site, Landmarks, and
National parks was to interpret sites including people and events associated with the heritage...

According to Kaufman, the author of the Park Service s Cultural Needs Assessment Report, one of
the quickest ways and most economical way of creating new historic places that acknowledge
Latino American historic places is to acknowledge the groups role at existing historic places
(Kaufman 40). Some proposed examples are to recognize leaders and intellectual of Latin American
independence movements who came to Philadelphia during the early nineteenth century, inspired
by city s contribution to the cause of liberty and at Faneuil Hall in Boston hosted important
demonstrations against the Spanish American war (Kaufman 40). Independence National Historic
Park still does not regularly include the Latin American independence movement in their
interpretation. However, these stories are slowly making their way to the surface. In contrast to the
interpretation in Independence Hall, Independence National Historic Park chose to include how the

Too Many Religions, Not Enough Truth Essay
The number of converts to Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, Baha ism, and Spiritualism is growing daily.
People are searching for a genuine Faith that is not dominated by greed and hypocrisy. Indigenous,
tribal practices are performed to this day in remote regions of the world. Shamans and medicine
men continue to practice on isolated islands, in Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Atheism, a
concept that any and all religious beliefs are a bunch of bunk, is also gaining support throughout
the world. Thousands of religious practices and beliefs exist across the world. The faithful proclaim

If God created the entire universe and this luscious, little planet, would a piece of architecture be
of much importance to Him? The hoopla is for naught. Many Christian leaders in America
preach prosperity, fly around in private jets, live in million dollar homes, accept large annual
CEO salaries from their charitable organizations, and become media icons. The Disciples whom
Jesus called to teach His message gave up everything and followed Him. Humility has given way
to celebrity in many cases. Judgment Each person should be free to believe what they want to
believe without receiving criticism from individuals or leaders of opposing doctrines.
Unfortunately, harsh judgments fly freely from the mouths of the self righteous. For instance,
some Christian evangelists publicly proclaim that devastating earthquakes, hurricanes, and other
natural events are acts of God s vengeance upon a nation of people because of their decadent
behavior. Others have claimed that the attacks of September 11, 2001 were due to the moral decay
in America. The majority of Christian leaders, unlike other religious leaders, publicly condemn
those to eternal damnation who have not accepted Jesus as the Savior. However, in John 10:16,
Jesus is credited with saying, I have other sheep that are not of this pen. I must bring them also.

This method of measurement offers a reasonable amount of validity for a reason that includes a
concise, clear question with different dimensions of answer in which the person being survey may

straightforward and unlikely to be confusing which ensures validity and reliability. The options for
the question regarding presidential vote are Obama, Romney, and other, which includes candidates

The Insanity Defense Essay
The Insanity Defense
Former U.S president Ronald Reagan was shot by a man named John Hinckley in the year 1981.
The president along with many of his entourage survived the shooting despite the heavy infliction
of internal and external injuries. The Hinckley case is a classic example of the not guilty by reason
of insanity case (NGRI). The criminal justice system under which all men and women are tried
holds a concept called mens rea, a Latin phrase that means state of mind . According to this concept,
Hinckley committed his crime oblivious of the wrongfulness of his action. A mentally challenged
person, including one with mental retardation, who cannot distinguish between right and wrong is
protected and exempted by the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rule states, A defendant may be excused from criminal responsibility if at the time of the
commission of the act, the party accused was laboring under such a defect of reason, from a
disease of mind, as not to know the nature and the quality of the act he was doing... (3)
The problem with this defense is that insanity here is either examined from a legal angle or a
psychoanalytical one which involves talking to people and having them take tests. There is
however, no scientific proof confirming the causal relationship between mental illness and
criminal behavior based on a deeper neurological working of the brain sciences. The psychiatrist
finds himself/herself in a double bind where with no clear medical definition of mental illness, he
/she must answer questions of legal insanity beliefs of human rationality, and free will instead of
basing it on more concrete scientific facts. Let me use a case study to elaborate my argument that
law in this country continues to regard insanity as a moral and legal matter rather than ones based
on scientific analysis.
The insanity defense of Andrea Yates: The country was absolutely appalled when it heard that
Yates, a mother of five children, had killed each of her children resulting in a horrific family
slaughter. There were extremely polarized feelings about this case sympathy (concluding

The Design Of Le Rousseau And The Repast Of The Lion
While examining artwork, there are four different categories to discuss: description, analysis,
interpretation, and judgement.Throughout those categories, elements of design and principles of
design can be used to describe the artwork. Artwork is created through emotions and personal life
experiences that are able to create a story behind it. In the junglearound dusk time expressed by the

Design Constraints For The Wind Turbine Tower
ENG 1050 Materials Selection Report
Abstract
After careful considerations of material properties with the objectives of the research (minimise
cost and weight), the material that would be most suitable for the wind turbine tower is low alloy
steel and for the blades, CFRP. Considering the design constraints, the tower is best designed with a
hollow circle frame with 5m (inner) and 3m (outer) radius which translates to a material cost of
$4.96 million (tower only) and weighs 7893 tonnes. CFRP is the most suitable material for the
blade as it has the lowest density and high fracture toughness and fits the constraints. Additional
costs are based on anti corrosion protection, CFRP production (based on blade length), transport and
recycling commitments.
Introduction
Due to the dying ability of traditional fossil fuels to power the earth s power requirements,
alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower are beginning to supply
the rapidly growing demand. Offshore wind farms, a clean energy source, are being introduced
given their consistent and relatively higher power output.
The purpose of this exercise is to design a wind turbine tower and blades to meet the service
specifications for an offshore environment. This involves manipulating the design tower shape and
dimensions, selected material while minimising the cost of construction and the weight. Given that
the turbines are to be offshore, we will also predict possible corrosion damages and

  • 2. The Origins and History of Corn Indigenous to the Western hemisphere, corn has traveled all around the world being the center of religious practices, cuisine, and today drives food production, but the exact origin of this miracle vegetable is uncertain. Reported by National Geographic s David Braun, corn was developed and cultivated somewhere in central Mexicoover 8,700 years ago. Maize, another name for corn, was not found naturally in the wild, but came about due to the domestication of a variety of similar species from the ancient Native Americans. Corn derived from the teosinte plant, which is a wild grass containing kernels smaller than modern day corn. According to an article in The New York Times, during the 20th century few scientists could confirm the relation between teosinte and corn, but in the 1930 s, Dr. George W. Beadle conducted many genetic experiments with the two plants and discovered that they had very similar chromosomes. Beadle concluded that the two plants were members of the same species, with maize being the domesticated form of teosinte (Carroll). Native Americans that migrated from Mexico brought along corn to various parts of America. Therefore, maize dispersed into the southwestern regions of the United States and to Peru. In addition to this agricultural migration, corn managed to make its way across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. In an article written by Lance Gibson and Garren Benson of Iowa State University s Department of Agronomy, corn was introduced to Europeans during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia is a neurological disorder that makes it difficult or virtually impossible for people to distinguish between human faces in the worst cases, even the faces of close family members. There are obvious advantages to being able to recognize people, one of which is to distinguish between friends and enemies. Fortunately, most humans, especially infants, are able to do so with great ease. According to various studies, it seems that at the age of just a few months, infants begin to fine tune their facerecognition skills for the types of faces which they see most often, usually faces of people of their own race or ethnicity (National Research Council, 2004). The term prosopagnosiacomes from the Greek words for face and lack of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... J., Quinn, P. C., Slater, A. M., Lee, K., Ge, L., Pascalis, O., 2007). Also shown from the multiple studies on infants, it has been made known that many prosopagnosiacs have suffered from the face recognition impairment for most of their lives, perhaps since birth. Due to these newer studies, it has been proven that many people suffer from prosopagnosia without experiencing any neurological damage. This form of the neurological disorder is frequently referred to as developmental or congenital prosopagnosia. For these individuals, they merely fail to develop normal face processing abilities despite normal intellectual and perceptual functions. Even more recent evidence proposes that there may be a genetic contribution to developmental prosopagnosia; several case studies reported at least one first degree relative who also suffers from the face recognition impairment (Bate, ... • 4. Quiz All Over Our Faces ! This Panel Show, entitled Quiz All Over Our Faces! , will be an amalgamation of several different modern TV shows of the same vein, borrowing certain aspects but not making, per say, a carbon copy of the panel shows in question. Through this we plan to create something that is not so much original but a fresh take on the formula of the panel show. The majority of shows which influence will be drawn from will be of a comedic disposition. So in saying that, the set up of the show will be, that two teams comprised of two people will compete against one another through a number of sections and based on how they perform a points system will distinguish as to who the winning side is a all times The host of the show being the one who puts these challenges to them and distinguishes who is the victor at the end of each section. Like most shows we will begin with an opening VT, comprised of motion graphicsand pre recorded material that will be added in. The motion graphics themselves will be created with the programme After Effects and for a more efficient work flow, an online template will be used. The pre recorded material will be of the guests and possibly previous content which has recorded in the studio. At this point in the show both a colour scheme, a flavour of what the show is about and the name of the show will be established. Moving on from this, the Host will introduce himself and then the contestants either side of him, lower thirds used respectively for each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. How Does Golding Show Conflict Between Ralph, Jack Piggy... In lord of the flies, Golding presents a strong sense of conflict, between the boys, the boys and nature and the boy s personal lives. The theme of conflict is an important one within the novel, as it helps to represent the disagreement and fighting of World War II which was happening during the time that Lord of the flies was written and that Golding experienced first hand. Golding s main message in Lord of the flies was how cruel men could be to one another and conflictis an obvious link to this idea. We begin to see conflict very early in the novel, even before the story begins, as Golding tries to introduce the key themes at the start of the novel. The boys are actually brought to the island itself by the conflicts of World War II.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Golding could be making a point that your background does not necessarily determine how intelligent you are and that a lower class child can be very intelligent. We experience more tension between Ralph and Piggy due to Ralph s attitude that he is superior, through linguistic conflict. Piggy continuously asks Ralph questions, such as what s your name? , you haven t seen the others have you? and making comments and telling Ralph about himself: My auntie told me not to run...on account of my asthma and I expect we ll want to know all there names . He is enthusiastic and keen to talk to Ralph, possibly due to the usual lack of attention he receives back home. However Ralph tried to be offhand and not too obviously uninterested and replied to Piggy s comments with just a shake of his head or not even acknowledging him at all. As well as this, when Piggy asked Ralph his name he waited to be asked his name in turn but this proffer of acquaintance was not made . This yet again shows how Ralph thinks of himself as superior to Piggy and doesn t feel he needs to treat or show piggy the same respect and interest that he gave to Ralph. Piggy also partly creates a gap between himself and Ralph by following Ralph and showing so much interest in him. Piggy hung steadily at his shoulder and stood by him, breathing hard . This could show that Ralph has a natural sense of leadership about him which makes Piggy feel as though he should look up to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The American Legion s Product Development By Implementing... Strategic Alternatives The few strategies that I suggest that the American legion begins to use are to attempt product development by implementing social media as a marketing tool. By using social media as a huge part of the marketing this allows the American Legion to see exactly how many people are viewing their ads. It also gives them the chance to customize who they exactly want to target. This can allow for less old school marketingsuch as magazines, post cards, newspapers, or ads which all of these allowed the Legion to waste of lot of money per year on them. I would love to see the American Legion get together with all of these organizations, putting a large event on, have a few celebrities show up as well and really put the American Legion on the map and leveraging other outlets than just their own endeavors. Having a strategy of strategies is crucial especially at the tipping point of where the Legion is as a whole; in class we have discussed many great ideas as a small group of individuals with business mindsets, as outsiders and some from younger generations are able to put our twist on the Strategies of the American Legion and pinpoint both the strengths and weaknesses. Fieldwork Process Analysis According to Williams and Menendez (2015) fieldwork process comprises of three factors that create momentum; results oriented action, awareness of observations, and other practices to generate new behaviors (p. 175). Although, fieldwork is a great strategy to create momentum it is important not to assign excessive fieldwork to the client (Williams Menendez, 2015). The purpose of fieldwork or homework is to produce affirmative energy (momentum) between the client and the coach. Moreover, it maintains the client motivated, driven, and focus resulting in a positive attitude helping the client achieving his/her goal. • 12. The Constitution Is Revered For Both Its Age And Its Brevity The U.S Constitution is revered for both its age and its brevity. The Constitution is a short and concise document has been able to stand the test of time and it has remained the ultimate guide of principles for law creation and enforcement. With that being said, the words of the Constitution are unclear in many respects. Politicians have debates over the Constitutiondue to the reason that it is difficult to figure out what the Framers meant when they originally wrote the Constitution. According to the Constitution, the Supreme Court has the authority to decide if a law passed by Congress is Constitutional. However, the vagueness of the Constitution allows for the Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution differently since they have to figure out how to apply it to the twenty first century. The vagueness of constitution, while enabling the country to progress, has also been the source of conflict among the individuals in government office. In terms of the Supreme Court, there is a fundamental philosophical debate on how the vagueness of the constitution should be interpreted. Both sides adhere strictly to the written words of the Constitution there is no debate about that. But much of the constitutional rhetoric is open for interpretation, creating two schools of thought. The first thought, originalism argues that the Supreme Court should interpret the constitution solely to reflect the original views of the framers. VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa, Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice interventions that nurses should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003 CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves, suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB), education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic rinse. Studies suggested that best practices for reducing VAP were not consistently implemented. Some of the modern structures that resemble Greek styling and architecture are government buildings. By building some of our most important structures with Greek designs, it shows our current emphasis on Greek architecture. There are three distinct orders, or types, of architecture. These are the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders. Possibly one of the most distinguished aspects supplied by Greek architecture is the column. Columns were prevalent in Greek society and were found in many of their temples and important structures such as the Parthenon. The first and most simplistic order of Greek architecture is the Doric order. According to the article, Doric Columns and the Doric Order of Classical Architecture, Doric architecture is characterized by columns that Doric columns are, stouter than those of the Ionic or Corinthian orders. Their smooth, round capitals are simple and plain compared to the other two Greek orders. The capital is the very top piece of the column that connects the column to the rest of the structure, or the entablature. Unlike other orders, Greek Doric columns did not have bases; instead the column was fixed directly on the foundation of the structure. This simplistic design was implemented on one of the most well known works of architecture from Ancient Greece, the Parthenon. After considering the list of ways people can make others feel welcome and valued or like outsiders: I have come to the conclusion that each event listed could be interpreted in a positive way and used for good or may be interpreted in a negative way and used to fuel my oppression. For example, Whether we look at people when we talk with them , one way of looking at that would be to interpret that person as snobbish and they are not paying attention. Another way of looking at it would be to understand that they are shy, or uncomfortable with people. The negative reaction focuses on Me , my wants, my needs, and how that person is not fulfilling them. The positive reaction focuses on Them , understanding their wants, their needs, and how that person might be feeling. I challenge you to look at each of those situations and find two results: one that hinders my growth and one that excels my growth. I believe the goal is always to make others feel welcome and valued. Although, people say stupid things and their intentions are genuinely good. In my opinion it is never o.k. to intentionally berate another human being. Likewise, if you cannot say something encouraging do not speak. If you are asked, speak the truth in love. Likewise, sometimes the truth hurts and we like to justify our actions and blame others. I talk to so many clients during the day and many of them say stupid remarks, but I know they do not mean animosity towards me or anyone else. We must use discernment to ... • 17. Aaron Beck And Albert Ellis Regardless of its debilitating effects on the mind, anxiety and depression can be treated effectively through means of therapy or medication. Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis are the two brilliant pioneers of cognitive therapy who have both developed effectual methods of redirection for those who seek assistance regarding their mental health. Cognitive therapyas a whole is centralized in guiding clients to walk through their thoughtprocess in order to identify distorted patterns of thinking as well as how to distinguish between reality and their negative perceptions of life events. Aaron Beck s cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses upon the correlation between cognitive thinking, emotion, and behavior and how all three can inevitably compel an individual to interpret life situations in a negative manner and adopt maladaptive responses and behavior in return. Beck proposed that the cognitive triad previously mentioned consists of a negative view of oneself, the world, and of the future is ultimately what drives the individual to have distorted and maladaptive perceptions and thoughts. Meanwhile, Albert Ellis believed that irrational thinking is the culprit for negatively skewed perceptions of life s outcomes. His form of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) reinforces the idea that irrational thinking is what leads the individual to perceive life negatively or enables maladaptive behaviors to occur. For instance, when an activating event or objective situation leads to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Civic Engagement Research Paper The Politics of Civil Engagement The United States was founded on the principles of having a democracy that contrasted the British monarchy that had once controlled them. In order for the newly created democracy to function properly, citizens were required to actively participate and be aware of the government. In addition, civilians had to make an effort to support their communities. In the present, the same standards are held towards all civilians. Without civic engagement, the United States democracy would fall from grace, as only the individuals who actively care about politics and their communities would have input on decisions that could impact the lives of others who live in the same city, state, and country. The Role and Importance of Civic Engagement Civic engagement acts as the life support of democracy and can be interpreted as two halves. One half of civic engagement involves all of the actions and decisions that an individual makes to have the government that represents them best cater to their beliefs and opinions. Socrates believed that in order to be happy and live a good life, you need to live a life of contemplation and self evaluation. I believe this is similar to Gilbert because they both understood the importance of self reflection in leading you to happiness. Basically things like new year s resolutions are all pointless because our future selves will never actually deal with what we planned. The difference between these two are that Ariely s type is actually controllable, contrary to what I just said. Controllable in the sense that you have to counteract the destiny with another destiny. For example, if you know for sure that you are going to snooze the next morning, you create an alarm clock that is super loud and you put it in another room. This makes it so your future self has no choice but to get up and go get the alarm clock. Whereas Epictetus s type of destiny is truly uncontrollable. The only way to find happiness through this type of destiny is to mold your desires and expectations to the reality of your situation. Planned Market And Mixed Market Economies Planned, Market, and Mixed Economies Each country has its own economic system, a system for allocating its resources among its citizens, both individual and organizations (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 11). There are three economic systems: planned economies, market economies, and mixed market economies. Economic systems are defined by how the five factors of productions are handled: labor, capital, entrepreneurs, physical resources, and information resources. Factors of production are the resources that a country s businesses use to produce goods and services (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 11). Planned Economies A planned economy can be defined as an economy that relies on a centralized government to control all or most factors of production and to make all or most production and allocation decisions (Ebert Griffin, 2015, p. 12). There are two forms of planned economies: communism, in which the government owns and operates all factors of productions, and socialism, where the government owns and operates only selected factors of productions. Most commendable, is that the writers were able to leave subtle hints that would foreshadow their fortunes meticulously in efforts to keep the readers engaged. She mentions I was but a child myself only four years old but then I had been raised in a hardy school had been taught to rely upon myself, and to prepare myself to render assistance to others (Gates Jr. Smith, 311). What is so profound about that statement is that hardy school was a double entendre used to refer to slavery. Hence, the idea that slavery taught her independence which she carried with her throughout her life. As it pertains to her writing, slavery also equipped her with the poise she presented both in her demeanor and in her work as a renowned seamstress. • 33. The Positive Impact Of The Reformation In The 16th Century The Reformation during the 16th century was something that had always been thought of and what is expected that had a positive impact on many people. Reformers that were in the medieval church like St. Francis of Assisi, Valdes, Jan Hus, and John Wycliff had thought about the aspects of the church and throughout life before 1517. During the 16th century, figures such as Erasmus of Rotterdam who was the chief proponent of liberal Catholic reform, had an ongoing concern before Luther told his Ninety Five Theses. From Martin Lutherthe aspect of the beginning of the section is very intriguing, offering how the impact had caused a positive change: Luther having experienced this new conviction, it is not surprising that the extravagant claims surrounding the sale of indulgences in 1517 provoked him to the public. The form and text of that protest became known as the 95 Theses . ( Martin Luther 427). From his objection to the claim, the pope had then relieved the sins of Luther and the Catholic church. The Reformation was a major change in the Catholic church due to the change of how people bettered themselves. Luther was unhappy that the Catholic church offered an indulgencefor pay, such as, As for myself, let me say that I, too, am a doctor and a preacher yes, and as learned and experienced as any of those who act so high and mighty ( Martin Luther 428). By following the sacraments, many were able to better their relationship with Jesus. Shall we frivolously despise this might, blessing, power, and fruit especially we who would be pastors and preachers? ( Martin Luther 429). Martin Luther is expressing with powers and questioning what one should do with pastors and preachers and how one can better that problem to come up with a solution. The following quote sticks out due to the fact that the quote is setting guidelines to how many should go about living their life, Sixteenth Rule. In the same way, we must be on our guard that by talking much and with much insistence of faith, without any distinction and explanation occasion be not given to the people to be lazy and slothful in works, whether before faith is formed in charity or after ( Saint Ignatius of Loyola 446). It was a period of political fragmentation and decentralization [Richard C. Martin]. He was the founder of the Safavid Empire. In 1501, he named himself the Shah, king, of the empire and proclaimed Twelver religion the official religion of state. It took him almost over a decade to consolidate his control over all of Iran, where most of the Persian population still practiced as Sunni. His Qizilbash military was given the task to convert anyone on Safavid territory to Twelver Islamand the army succeeded. Ismail was a remarkable leader when he set his mind to it, yet the Ottoman empire instigated a war against the Safavid empire because of the increase of Shia population. Ismail was caught by surprise and the Qizilbash were defeated. The aftermath of the battle was severe; Ismail was so embarrassed by the defeat he became inattentive to any Qizilbash work and military affairs of state. Since, however the fall in the rate of unemployment has not been as sharp as many predicted, concerns have been raised over whether unemployment levels in this single period may have a long lasting effect. The issue of hysteresis within the UK and the persistence of unemployment is what this paper will focus on, as well as the reasons why the youth unemployment rate is much higher. Using the Demand deficient theory of unemployment, which is the Keynesian view of unemployment that suggest high real wages cause long term unemployment, I will examine whether this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another industry that has shown signs of employment growth during this hard time is the accommodation and food services industry. Which, outside of London, has seen a 4.8% increase in employment. This could be due to employees from other industries simply switching careers, which opposes the view of this model that skills diminish or are not transferrable between sectors of the economy (ONS, 2014). On the other hand this rise in employment could simply be due to the UK s flexible labour market. Another industry that has experienced a downwards growth trend is the mining and quarrying industry. There has been a dramatic reduction in growth, as between the periods of early 2011 and the final quarter of 2013 the industry has been 35.2% below its pre recession peak. However this industry decline has been slowly happening since 1999, this consequently could be a contributing factor to the issue of hysteresis as this is the second largest sub industry of total production within the UK (ONS, 2013). This fits within the assumptions of the model of structural unemployment as the decline in the industry has clearly led to higher levels of unemployment. The long term decline of such a large industry can often lead to long term unemployment, such as we saw in the coal industry, which is a common cause of hysteresis. However this alone cannot be blamed for hysteresis. Blanchard and Summers wrote about three reasons for hysteresis and unemployment persistence, one more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prepare an appropriate graphical representation for each of the following variables. a) The different majors of students taking MM207. b) The number of hours spent on school work by students in MM207. 9. Using the range rule of thumb estimate the standard deviation for the number of credit hours students in this sample are taking and the shoe sizes of the females in the class. Then using StatCrunch compute the actual standard deviation. Compare the results. a) Does the range rule of thumb overestimate or underestimate the standard deviation for number of credit hours? The range rule of thumb over estimates the standard deviation for credit hours. The estimates deviation is 3.75 while the actual is 2.56 b) Does the range rule of thumb overestimate or underestimate the standard deviation for shoe sizes of females? The range rule of thumb overestimates again this time only by a little, with the estimate at 1.75 and the actual at 1.29. c) How does the shape of the distribution impact what you conclude? The shape of both data sets fall within the rule of thumb estimate and that actual standard deviation. There is a much high range for both and that is because there are several data samples that fall outside of the standard deviation. 10. Using measures of center ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Decision to Move into an International Market Terms and Definitions Upon a company making the decision to move into an international market there are many economic terms, definitions and laws that are to be researched and understood. While there are lots of terms and definitions, five of these terms include: multinational corporations, economies of scale, imports and exports as part of GDP, foreign exchange market and exchange rates and marginal rate of transformation. Each definition will be researched and defined below and their importance to a company going global will be discussed. Multinational Corporations A multinational corporation or a MNC can be defined as a company operating in at least one other country besides its home country. A MNC can be a closed system, in which it produces within said country and sells to that country only. Most MNC s, though, are open systems in which they produce in one country and sell to another. MNC s are driven by the law of supply and demand . Supply and demand affect open systems differently as labor is in one country and the selling of products in another and the cycle of products is on a much larger scale. A company looking to become international, if incorporated, will become a multinational corporation. II. Economies of Scale A. Factors that cause the cost of producing something to fall as the scale of its output increases are known as economies of scale. An example is it might cost $5000 to produce 200 copies of a book but only $6000 to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Pollan s The Ominvore s Dilemma, he showcases the transformative nature of food production throughout the years, by emphasizing the commercialization and industrialization aspects of this continual foodevolution. Though Pollan expresses his opinions on modern day methods of food production and categorization of these means of production, he experiences the dilemma that is commonly faced by many individuals in this day and age. Therefore, he undergoes the endeavor to find the solution to this national dilemma. He poses the question: what should we have for dinner? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many consumers are not able to see where their food comes from, similarly to how the corn no longer has the information of how it was produced. The change in food production also is evident in the decline in personal nature via packaging. Two centuries ago, people were able to purchase their corn from the farm where the corn had been grown and most likely where they had developed a more personal linkage with the farmer on a local level. Now, the connection between the source of consumer s food production and the consumer itself are separated by thousands of miles, lacking communication, acknowledgement, and awareness of the production process. Pollan implements something as simple as a produce sack to showcase the reality that modern day consumers are denied their right to know where and how their food was developed, violating one foundation of food justice: the right to know what one is eating. A possible explanation for why food production has changed so much can be that its consumers have also evolved as a society the commercialization of agriculture has culminated this alteration within the industry. The consumer s desire to connect back with their ancestors can be easily ascertained by going to healthier markets like Wholefoods, among others. Pollan compares Wholefoods to a good quality bookstore, filled with extensive nutritional vocabulary on their packaging. However, much of it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Design Constraints For The Wind Turbine Tower ENG 1050 Materials Selection Report Abstract After careful considerations of material properties with the objectives of the research (minimise cost and weight), the material that would be most suitable for the wind turbine tower is low alloy steel and for the blades, CFRP. Considering the design constraints, the tower is best designed with a hollow circle frame with 5m (inner) and 3m (outer) radius which translates to a material cost of $4.96 million (tower only) and weighs 7893 tonnes. CFRP is the most suitable material for the blade as it has the lowest density and high fracture toughness and fits the constraints. Additional costs are based on anti corrosion protection, CFRP production (based on blade length), transport and recycling commitments. Introduction Due to the dying ability of traditional fossil fuels to power the earth s power requirements, alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower are beginning to supply the rapidly growing demand. Offshore wind farms, a clean energy source, are being introduced given their consistent and relatively higher power output. The purpose of this exercise is to design a wind turbine tower and blades to meet the service specifications for an offshore environment. This involves manipulating the design tower shape and dimensions, selected material while minimising the cost of construction and the weight.
