2. Was Raleigh Tate Justified In The Trial
Sheriff Tate accidentally stole Arthur s right to be legally protected. Sheriff Tate might not have
been the best sheriff for Maycomb. He lies, tampers with evidence, and bends the law. He also lets
his emotions control his actions and doesn t think things thoroughly. The death of Bob Ewell was
justified because he has done some horrible things.
Sheriff Tate might have some of the traits and qualities of a good sheriff. However, would a
good sheriff lie, bend the law, or tamper with evidence. When Mayella claimed she was sexually
abused Sheriff Tate didn t take her to see a doctor. He claimed No sir when Atticus asked But
you didn t call a doctor? While you were there did anyone send for one, fetch one, carry her to
one? (224). Mayella could ve been hurt and they could ve had more evidence, but instead he
decided not to get her a doctor. Sheriff Tate also tampered with evidence when Bob Ewell was
killed. He switched the knives around and took the one that killed Bob Ewell. Then he insisted

3. Free Will vs Determinism in A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony...
In Anthony Burgess 1962 dystopian novella, A Clockwork Orange, teenage gangs and hoodlums
run rampid in a futuristic society, inflicting mayhem and brutality among its totalitarian governed
state. Alex, our protagonist/anti hero, is among the most infamous in this violent youth culture. A
psychotic, yet devilishly intelligent boy of fifteen, our humble narrator beats up on old folk, rapes
underaged girls, pillages, and leads his group of droogs (friends) on a chaotic path of ultra
violence. With this society of citizens completely oblivious to the acts of such culture, the
government offers to step in with a solution. After being jailed for the most heinous crime of
murder, Alex volunteers for a procedure offered by the government... Show more content on

In turn, he uses this justification to senselessly beat a man up for simply not liking him. This could
be supported by a quote from an article about the study of free will vs determinism, which states,
freedom to choose fits comfortably with the assumption that people deserve what they get
(Carey 133). Alex could agree that someone of his own violent nature deserves this moment, or
that the man deserved the beating. However, in a critical essay by Rubin Rabinovitz, it is argued
that this expression of do what you want attitude is just as mechanically determined. By
dictating a lifestyle based around this preconceived mentality, Alex is already subjecting himself
to a controlled fate by following this youth culture (Rabinovitz). What s it going to be then,
starts the 2nd part of the novella, focussing on Alex s incarceration and eventual treatment (77).
Here, he is given a choice to remain the same and rot in prison, or find a way to change himself
to ensure his freedom. The irony in this decision is when he opts to the latter option, Alex is
unknowingly surrendering his freedom for an even greater state of determinism. Enter the
Ludovico Treatment a process which forces Alex to view a series of films while strapped down,
eyelids peeled open, as he s given a special sedative. The films, consisting of violent

4. Predation Vs Parasitism
In the comparison of the types of two species interactions, Predation and Parasitism are the most
similar by far, since both of them have a +/ interaction pattern, where one part benefits and one
is taken from. Examples of Predation would be a fox hunting a rabbit, as the fox benefits by
gaining food and the rabbit is disadvantaged by dying, or being seriously/ fatally injured; another
example would be a cheetah hunting an antelope in the same respects of the fox and the rabbit.
Good examples of Parasitism, would be bacterias in an organism, or a mosquitodrawing bloodfrom
an animal. With bacteria, it benefits by taking the resources that the host organism needs, as the host
doesn t benefit by their resources being used by the bacteria. In

Unlike the leaders in the Protestant movement, many stayed with the Catholic Church and tried to

initiated by PopePaul III. The council met in Trento, Italy in December 1545 and they met two
more times in May 1551 and January 1562 and ended in December 1563. This council was created
to identify the abuses within the Church and to clarify Catholic doctrine and reaffirmed the Pope to

Booze, cigarettes, sex, beer, curses, affairs, abuse, paint: All of those are factors in Jackson
Pollock s life, however, one stands out above all as the most important one, paint. America s
greatest painter, born in Cody, Wyoming on January 28, 1912, had a deeper connection to this
colorful, flowing liquid than anyone else in history. Blood did not run through his veins, but oil
and pigment, tar and sand did. He became something else while he painted. He became his
painting. No other painter in history had been able to do what Jackson Pollockdid. Jackson pushed
past any boundaries in the world of art. He created something new, and at the time no one had

exposing new skin and breaking all the traditions. Rugoff indicates that Pollock, with strong
influence, had changed painting from a traditional compositional technique to something else,
making his paintings look more as sculptures (442). Along with the finished product, the method
Pollock used to paint was out of the ordinary. Pollock painted physically, in almost a performance
art technique (National Gallery of Art 2). His movements could not be repeated, however, the

A piece of art can leave distinct impressions with the viewer. The Assyrian Winged Protective Deity

the overall stature of the figure. The cuneiform writing above the relief greatly influenced the
impression a viewer can receive through its narration about the figure. Other than Gilgamesh and
the Assyrian Winged Protective Deity both being from Mesopotamia, they have numerous
similarities.

all of his enemies (Relief of a Winged Genius). The strength of this king was shown through the

figure holding a scepter in his hand, so he can crush his enemies in battle. This figure illustrates
true power, whose hand has conquered all lands (Relief of a Winged Genius). The relief s other

Assyrian Winged Protective Deity, but they provide Gilgamesh with support as well. Gilgamesh
receives dreams from the god Shamash to give him strength during uncertain times, and the relief
has wings from the gods to show their influence to protect the king. Both figures represent the lives

From reading the author s book Ecology of Fear, Mike Davis main thesis for writing this book
was to make readers become aware of the underlying problems and threats which have existed or
currently exist in Southern California and how these problems shape the way we live today and in
the imminent future as well. Although Davis did not really provide us with any remedies for the
problems facing Southern California, this book made it very clear to the readers that problems do
still exist, although at times they may sound subtle in nature. Of the numerous problems which do
exist in Southern California, I will discuss only a handful of the problems that Davis provided us
insight to. In the following paragraphs, the main problems of Southern... Show more content on

Another problem of suburbanization was that the rampant private development led to the
overdevelopment of the landscape. This overdevelopment was due in large part to the fact that the
private developers were manipulating the city council. The author states, [a]t the end of the war,
greenbelt zoning for the Valley was actually passed into law by the city council, but it lacked the
broad political support to survive the relentless counterattack of developers and landowners.
(Davis, p. 76). Due to the fact that the city council was so small in size, developers were able to
greatly gain influence in demanding for policies that would enhance their desire for even more
private development. But, lost in this mix was the fact that overdevelopment led to a decreased
amount of public space and the loss of natural beauty to the landscape. By 1928 parks comprised
a miserable 0.6 percent of the surface of the metropolis...No large city in the United States was so
stingy with public space. (Davis, p. 65). This statistic gives us clear indication of who the culprit
was for the overdevelopment which occurred in Southern California in the 1920s and beyond: the
developers.
The second main issue that Ecology of Fear raised was regarding the wild fires that have ravaged
Southern California for years. Although this situation arises virtually every time the Santa Ana

Temptation, Blame, Forgiveness, and an Apple
Genesis the book of the beginning of man, according to some religions. In this book, the age old
story of Adam and Eve is recorded. The book tells of the first two humans on earth performing the
original sin by eating an apple from the Tree of Knowledge in the sacred Garden of Eden. While
this story may seem clear cut, humans always have different perspectives on the messages to take
away from stories. Sometimes, these differing views are expressed in the form of art. The paintings
Adam and Eve by Michelangelo and Adam and Eve by Cranach both portray the biblical story of
the first humans betrayal of God. As shown by the composition of the paintings, as well as the
actions of the figures, Cranach s couple seem to be unintentionally sinning, while Michelangelo s
Adam and Eve appear to be purposeful in their actions. Cranach s placement of the figures draws
the observer s eye to the apple instead of the serpent, implying that there are subtle manipulations
taking place. On the other hand, Michelangelo s painting takes the viewer s eye to Eve directly
taking the apple from a much larger serpent s hand, implying a much more direct intervention from
Satan. Both paintings show how easily humans are influenced by temptation; this idea is a common
theme across history, and it will be a theme as long as humanity continues to exist.

Introduction
For my assignment I was asked to discuss the two way interaction between social class and social
institutions of family, education and religion. I assignment consisted of six questions, how social
class impacts family, how family impacts social class; how social class impacts education, how
education impacts social class; how social class impacts religion, and how religion impacts social
class.
All of the above mentioned questions are interlinked, which means that it effects and determines the
other questions answer. Family, education and religion plays a big role in the different societal
classes. The goal of my assignment is to determine whether your class has a different impact on
your beliefs, upbringing and education.
How social class impacts family
A similar rank or standing in society is based on their prestige, power, wealth, education, and
other valued resources (Sawhill, 2013). Individuals in a similar social class tend to have the same
values, leisure interests, and attitudes (Sawhill, 2013). We inherit a social position that is based on
our parents or guardians social class. Family resources affect the children s ability to practise
opportunities like higher education, however one can move down or up the social hierarchy in
adulthood which depends on one s hard work, connections, and motivations (Sawhill, 2013).

In fact, Bedford alone got as many as one million books across the Soviet Union s borders over

The propaganda used in the book demonstrates how a revolution, despite how good the initial

Lab # 1: Measurements and Uncertainty in Physics Experiments 1 4 Dylan Adams Date: June 22,

uncertainty that goes on while using these tools. The lab focused on rulers, calipers, spring scales,
and stopwatches. Each different type of measurement was analyzed for precision, accuracy, and
uncertainty. Students learned how to calculate measurements on a Vernier caliper, by using the

As seen in table 1, the caliper was much more accurate than the ruler. This is true because the
caliper is much easier to read, and has less uncertainty than the ruler. The caliper has less
uncertainty than the ruler because it has the ability to measure at a smaller unit than the ruler.
The source of error in this experiment was that the caliper could easily be bent, giving incorrect
measurements. In experiment 2 students tested the uncertainty and accuracy of a 5 and 10 N
spring scale. As seen in table 2, the 5 N spring scale had less uncertainty than the 10 N spring
scale. Because of this, the 5N spring scale was more accurate. The only downfall to the 5N
spring scale was that it was not large enough to measure the weight of the modeling clay. In
experiment 3, students tested the error and uncertainty of using a stopwatch. As seen in table 3,
using a stopwatch gave a large variety of measurements. Since the time it took the marble to fall
was so small, it was hard to react quick enough to give accurate readings. Lastly, in experiment 4
students tried to determine the density of the mass set. As seen in table 4, students used the radius,
diameter, and height in order to find the volume. Once they found the volume they used the weight
of 100 grams in order to find the density. The density of the mass set was found to be 9.03. This

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was written, and many of the same ideas can be found in
both texts. The Great Gatsby tells the story of Gatsby s fantastic dream from his neighbour Nick s
point of view. This essay will explore how certain ideas in The Norton Anthology of Literature
influence the themes, ideas, and writing of The Great Gatsby. Social class and automobiles are
important themes in both works, and The Great Gatsby itself can easily be classified as a high
modernist work, as described in The Norton Anthology of Literature. From the plot... Show more

Based on this description, and others from the same text mentioning discontinuity and
discordance, The Great Gatsby seems to be a piece of modernist literature. In terms of
perspective and tone, the story is mostly told by Nick, and we hear all events from his point of
view. That said, Nick also likes to tell us about stories he has heard from other people and
through this we can hear the points of view of other characters including Jordan as she talks
about Gatsby and Daisy meeting, and Gatsby on his own history. There is also a scene with
Michaelis and Mr. Wilson after Myrtle s death that Nick tells us about despite that fact that he
was not present. In addition to these changes in perspective he also changes his own tone, most
notably when he gets drunk at Tom and Myrtle s drinking party and the writing becomes littered
with ellipses (Fitzgerald 40). Furthermore, the order of events does not match the way they
actually happened, or even the way Nick experiences them. For example, Nick cuts into his own
storytelling to tell us about Gatsby s real history even though, at the time in his story, he did not
know this information yet. In fact, Gatsby s entire history is presented in out of order bits and
pieces. Moreover, Fitzgerald

In the Should the Penny Be Retired? by The Associated Press, they suggest that the penny be

25. Eduardo Quintana Case
Abstract
This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer Bird during a
traffic violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro Quintana. The analysis of the
two sides of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken into custody is of main interest in this case.
There are a variety of steps to be followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be
responsible for any action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. In the
particular case of Alejandro Quintana, officer Bird executed the arrest of a suspect that clearly was
suspicious utilizing probable cause and plain view search in order to arrest him and seize the
evidence. Mr. Quintana s Fourth Amendment right... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bird could have not searched the trunk of Mr. Quintana s car even if she thought he was hiding
something from the law. According to Swanson et, al. (2014), the Supreme Court ruled I the 1981
case New York v. Belton that when a policeofficer makes a lawful custodial arrest of the occupant
of an automobile, the officer may search the vehicle s passenger compartment as a
contemporaneous incident of arrest...The right to search includes any open or closed containers
found in the passenger compartment...It does not include the trunk (Swanson et, al. 2014),
p.30). The arrest of Mr. Quintana gives the officer the right to search the passenger s side but not
the car s trunk. Officer Bird couldn t be able to legally search Mr. Quintana s car trunk without
and issued search warrant on the motor vehicle s trunk. According to (Decker, 1999), The
purpose of a warrant is to allow a neutral judicial officer to assess whether the police have
probable cause to make an arrest or conduct a search (Decker, 1999, para.2). This one reason
provides an even field for the suspect and the police officer, giving the judge issuing the warrant the
decision making process of whether or not permitting the prosecution of the individual who can be
innocent by an officer unlawfully

26. Teen Dating Violence
What is Teen Dating Violence?
Teen Dating Violence (TDV) is described as the physical, emotional, or sexual abuse that occurs
within a relationship while dating. TDV can occur in person, or electronically by a current or
former partner (CDC, 2014). Many adolescents and adults are unaware of the prevalence of TDV
but a recent national study revealed that nearly 10% of adolescents have reported being hit,
slapped, or intentionally physically hurt by someone they had claimed to be dating (CDC, 2014).
About 20% of adult women who reported experiencing some form of intimate partner violence
(IPV) also reported experiencing TDV between the ages of 11 17 (CDC, 2014). Also, black

Some of the economic effects associated with IPV are as follows: employers lose between $3 5
billion dollars per year for increased medical costs of battered victims and businesses lose an
additional $100 million dollars in lost wages, sick days, and absenteeism. Also, nearly 2 million
workdays are lost to domestic violence annually and overall domestic violence costs the United
States $67 billion dollars, annually (NCADV, n.d.). IPV causes a huge lapse in profitability and
productivity.
Using Public Service Announcements to Address other Public HealthIssues Among Adolescents
Public service announcements have long been a tool of public health professionals and
organizations to prevent public health crises through awareness and instruction. For this
intervention, public service announcements via television and radio stations will be implemented
to bring about prevention of teen dating violence. Anti tobacco campaigns have utilized public
service announcements to campaign the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption as well as
raise awareness regarding cessation resources. In 2000, California held a media campaign that
accounted for a 2 3% reduction in the sales of cigarette packs. Despite the seemingly low effect of
media campaigning, it has been proven that each dollar invested in the anti tobacco advertising
results into a per capita decrease of 7.7 packs of cigarettes (Atkin,

27. Thyroid Storm Case Study
Thyroid storm is an acute exacerbation of hyperthyroidism and is a life threatening situation that
should be treated immediately. Although this is a relatively rare condition, the mortality rate is
20% which is often caused by multi organ failure or congestive heart failure.3 Common triggers of
thyroid storm include pre existing Grave s disease, radioactive iodine treatment, surgery, trauma,
sepsis, excessive thyroidhormone ingestion, and withdrawal from anti thyroid medications.3 Nick
hadn t experienced any of these, but he has a history of Celiac disease which is an autoimmune
disorder and may be linked to other autoimmune disorders, such as undiagnosed Grave s disease
(hyperthyroidism). Since thyroid storm is merely the worsening of thyrotoxicosis, or
hyperthyroidism, the pathophysiology is the same. There are elevated levels of thyroid hormones
due to increased activity of the thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism may be primary, indicated by
elevated thyroid hormones only, or it can be a secondary issue to the pituitary gland in which there
is elevated TSH and thyroid hormonelevels.1 In addition, hyperthyroidism may more specifically
be classified as Grave s disease if antibodies against the TSH receptor are involved.1... Show more

28. What Is The Difference Between Dido And Aeneas
The Roman myth of Dido and Aeneas as told by Vergil in his Aeneid was redone by Henry Purcell
in 1689 in his opera Dido and Aeneas. Although the opera follows the overall storyline of the myth,
there are several differences between the retelling and the original myth. These differences affecting
the message the myths convey and reflecting the time period they were written in.
In Vergil s version Aeneasand the other refugees ships crash in North Africa due to a storm Juno
asks the king of the winds, Aeolus, to create. Venus, wanting her son Aeneas to be safe sends Cupid
to make Queen Dido of Carthage fall in love with Aeneas. Aeneas arrives at Carthage where Dido
offers them refuge, one day she and Aeneas go hunting and get caught up in a storm. Seeking
shelter, they end up alone together and succumb to their passions, causing Dido to break her
vow of chastity. A vow she made when her late husband, Sychaeus, was murdered by her brother
causing her to flee her home kingdom and found Carthage. The news of the affair spreads and is
heard by a neighboring king who the Queen had rejected due to her vow. In his anger the king
asks for Jupiter s help who sends Mercury to tell Aeneas that he needs to continue his journey to
Italy. Dido is angry with Aeneas leaving, but he tells her it is not his destiny to stay, in the end
she threatens to kill herself if he leaves. As Aeneas sails away, Dido curses him with her last
breath, the smoke from her funeral pyre rising into the sky where Aeneas can see it. Aeneas meets
Dido one last time when he travels to the underworld, but this does not come up in Henry Purcell s
retelling.
In Henry s version of Dido and Aeneas, Aeneas crash is not shown he simply appears in front of
Queen Dido and they profess their feelings for each other. The second difference in the myths is
that in this version there are witches and a sorcerer that work together to destroy the Queen and
Carthage who they hate. To do this they create a storm while Dido, Aeneas and their entourage are
out hunting forcing the party to return to the castle. Aeneas is the last to leave and before he joins
the party the witches send an elf disguised as Mercury with a message that the gods are angry with
him for his

31. The Charge Of The Light Brigade Poem
Imagine charging into a battle where the odds of winning are close to none. Now imagine
charging forward where the enemy is attacking from three sides. This was the reality for a certain
British Brigade during the Crimean War in 1854. In his 1854 poem, The Charge of the Light
Brigade, Alfred, Lord Tennyson describes the Battle of Balaclavawhere the British ride into their
untimely death. Tennyson ends the poem with a significant few lines that read, Honor the charge
they made/Honor the light Brigade/Noble six hundred. (Lines 53 55). By looking at the last lines
Tennyson writes in his poem, one is able to realize the significance of the Charge of the Light
Brigade, and how these lines add to the glorification of war and honor theme seen throughout the
poem. The Light Brigade was a unit of British men who misinterpreted the orders given to them by
the commander in chief of the British army during the Crimean war. In the result of this
misinterpretation, the Light Brigade charged into heavy Russian artillery where they were attacked
from three sides (Greenspan). Tennyson describes this scene in his poem when he states, Cannon to
the right of them/Cannon to the left of them/Cannon in front of them, (Lines 18 20). The British
cavalry was slaughtered as they headed down into what is known as The Valley of Death
(Greenspan). According to the poem, there were six hundred men who fought in this charge. By
stating that they were noble, Tennyson believes these men to be of

A Women s Civil Right
The speech A Women s Civil Right was written in 1969 and the feminist author Betty Friedan
delivered it. Betty Friedan was a proponent of the modern women s movement and claimed that
women in 1969 and onwards should not be trapped in the stereotypical housewife role. Friedan was
convinces that social barriers in the society kept women imprisoned in the housewife trap . She
wanted women to have better career opportunities, introduce equality with men and to eliminate the
illusion of the happy housewife . This specific speech announces that abortion should be a part of a
women s civil right.

By means of a forceful argument, Friedan clarifies her political position by using a rhetorical
device called confutation. Betty Freidan makes certain reservations in her argument because she is
aware of a possible opposing argument: Am I saying that women must be liberated fro
motherhood? No. I am saying that motherhood will only be a joyous and responsible human act
when women are free to make, with full conscious choice and full human responsibility, the
decisions to become mothers p. 2, l.8. The confutation is used to destroy the conceivable objections
against the argument: The essence of the denigration of women is our definition as sex objects .
Betty Friedan supports abortion on demand. She believes that mother s should have the liberty of
choice. Mother s ought to have the rights to creativity beyond being a mother. This creativity
involves pursuing a career in different occupations and to reject the prejudices about being
feminine. Friedan insists on a woman s right to choose whether to have a child or not. She thinks
that motherhood will be accepted joyfully and as a great experience in life, if the choice was
freely chosen. The conflicts of being a mother will not exist once women are the masters of their
own faith and the captain of their souls: I am saying that motherhood will only be a joyous and
responsible human act when women are free to make, with full conscious choice and full human

lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in children and adolescents. Primary care providers
have a unique position to identify and screen for the disease in its early stages. This article

According to a landmark article by Browning et al, prevalence of NAFLD was described as being
highest in the Hispanic population and lowest among Black Americans, and Caucasians with an
intermediate prevalence. The differences were thought to be related to insulin resistance, visceral
adiposity, genetics and socioeconomic status9.
Overnutrition, specifically excessive consumption of fructose, is fundamental to NAFLD
development10. Fructose metabolism, unlike glucose, occurs nearly exclusively in the liver and is
preferentially selected for lipogenesis. The triglyceride production and storage that results from
fructose ingestion is highly associated with central obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance11.
This relevant finding is especially important to clinicians, as this modifiable risk factor may be
easily addressed.
Screening Guidelines and Recommendations
The majority of children with NAFLD are asymptomatic. Occasionally patients may complain of
vague abdominal pain, fatigue, or malaise, however, liver disease is usually found incidentally on
physical exam or routine lab work1. Children may have mild to moderate hepatomegaly; however,
the majority of these children are overweight or obese, making liver palpation a challenge. In
addition to obesity and visceral adiposity, children with NAFLD often present with acanthosis

Introduction: The collapse of the financial market in the United States created an accelerated
momentum that pushed the global economy towards a detrimental downward spiral during 2008.
In response to the crisis, the world s top economies created the G20 leaders forum in order to
manage the financial downturn. Although the crisis was somewhat managed by the G20, the Great
Recessionleft the world with a weak and stagnate global economy. The rise of secular stagnation
was a viable threat following the Great Recession that entrench the whole world and is still a

What Will Be Covered
Today, I m going to be talking about the roots of voodoo and what it actually is, the two types of
voodoo, voodoo rituals and superstitions, and why voodoo is perceived as a negative or
controversial topic.
What Is Voodoo?
I m sure everyone has their own perception of voodoo inside their head. Most people think
includes black magic, evil spirits, and causing harm to others. However, voodoo is actually a
complex tradition of faiths and beliefs that combine into an overall world full of religion and magic.
It is believed to have started sometime around 1724 in Africa, Haiti specifically. Today, there are

New Orlean Voodoo Rituals
New Orleans voodoo rituals differ from those of Haitian voodoo because of their emphasis on
voodoo queens, gris gris, superstitions and spells. Voodoo queens were central figures to voodoo
in the United States. They looked over ceremonial meetings and ritual dance while also obtaining
income by making charms, amulets and magical powders that were guaranteed to have special
healing powers. The most legendary voodoo queen was Marie Laveau because of her special
powers and ability to do exorcisms. She quickly overthrew the other voodoo queens of New
Orleans. Gris Gris is a voodoo amulet which is believed to protect whomever wears it from evil
and will provide them with good luck. New Orleans voodoo is also known for their superstitions,
however, they aren t central to the actual faith. These superstitions are just resulted from ancient
Louisana voodoo tradition and have influenced the faith.
Why is Voodoo shown in a Negative Light?
I m sure before I talked about voodoo, you expected something totally different. I, myself,
thought voodoo was actually all about black magic and evil spirits. However, voodoo is not
actually negative. When the early Haitian slaves came over to different parts of the world, they
also brought over their faith. However, because they were black and their religion was not
recognized, it was prejudged as evil. The priests were known as witchdoctors, the Loa were thought
to be evil when in reality, the

41. Sacrifice Is Sacrifice
Another fact is that no vision can be accomplished without sacrifice. Together with personal
discipline is sacrifice, which is another word that people interpret as meaning that they have to give
up some things for one thing that they enjoy doing. It generally means sacrificing something of a
low nature to get a better thing or a thing of a higher nature.
Sacrifice is really all about making daily choices to stay on the narrow road to success. Instead of
buying a video game to exercise your thumbs, buying instructional books and manuals to improve
knowledge and increase prospects is a sacrifice. Instead of doing what you want to do, doing what
is necessary to become the best is a sacrifice. I wanted to become a good athlete in my secondary
school inter house sport day, so I set a daily routine and stuck with it, even when I did not feel
like it. I would go to a field in the neighborhood, run from one end to the other, day in and day
out. In the school inter house sport day that year, I won two gold medals, 100m race and 200m
race. This is sacrifice. Without the need, desire and determination to improve, people lack the
means to develop and therefore will not make any sacrifices.
