Eddie Mabo Case Study
In the Eddie Mabo case, the case related to the ownership and control of land. However, aboriginal
land rights were not recognised. In this case there were two major principles, which were terra nullius
and native title. Terra Nullis is a legal principle indicating that a particular part of land doesn t belong
to anyone or could be considered as no man s land. Only Captain Cook in 1770 claimed all of the east
coast under international recognised law at the time. It followed three ground rules. The rules were if
the land is uninhabited, any country could claim ownership and settle the land under the principle of
terra nullius. If the land was inhabited, another country could request the leaders of the indigenous
inhabitants for permission to make use of some of the land. This may involve making a land purchase,
or coming to some other agreement such as treaty which was agreeable to the indigenous population.
The last rule meant that a country already inhabited could be conquered through invasion and war, ...

Western Australia created the Land (Titles and Traditional usages) Act 1993. This Act was to end the
common law of native title. Also, this Act was purposely created to deal with disputes between mining
companies and indigenous people over the right to certain areas of land.
Previously the Commonwealth Government tried to keep away from the conflicts between State
Governments over indigenous land rights. However, the then PM Paul Keating of the Labour
Government wanted to find a way to help those in need of rights. There was a risk with this decision
as some other State Governments might try to legislate to stop indigenous land rights as Western
Australia had done. This led to the Commonwealth Government putting forward its own legislation.
The Act that was created was the Native Title Act 1993 (Cwlth). It was passed in late December 1993
and began in force in January 1st

Scientific Revolution Research Paper
The Scientific Revolution
Have you ever thought when the humanity stepped into a new era of its history? It happened during
The Scientific Revolution when humans views on nature and the world were drastically transformed
with the help of discoveries in the field of physics, science, mathematics chemistry, biology, and
astronomy. That period of the history was very important for humanity because of the collapse of the
ancient medieval picture of the world, new scientific discoveries and the interaction between science
and other social institutions.
The biggest achievement in the Scientific Revolution was the collapse of the ancient medieval picture
of the world. The new ideology was created, which helped to create the modern science. In antiquity,
the focus was on natural and cosmic life; during the Renaissance, there was a focus on understanding
the world through Humanism and the role of the person in the world. After all, Descartes s philosophy,
which was the foundations of the scientific method, did not deny the creation of the world by God.
However, it claimed that from that moment the world began to develop with its internal laws. The next
contributions to science were new scientific inventions. Humans views on nature were radically
changed with the help of discoveries in the field of mathematics, science, physics, and astronomy. The

Mate Selection
Mate selection is an evolutionary process in which selection is dependent on the attractiveness of an
individual s phenotypic trait, such as age and sex. For example, women feel that reliability,
dominance, wealth and generosity are important in a mate, while men believe attractiveness and
creativity are important. Women investment more time in searching for a mate because women are,
typically, responsible for birthing and raising a child and need a mate that would protect her and their
offspring and provide for them. Men, on the other hand, do not invest much in mate selection. When
resources are scarce, women seek resources in their mate and man look for attractiveness. However,
the goal is to locate the best possible mate. Age differences

My Passion For Reading
My passion for reading is an aspect of me that has never failed to go unnoticed it is hardly a surprise
for those around me to see a book in my hand wherever I go, absorbed by a world that was not
invented by me. As a result of this, I was recognised within school as my picture was placed on the
wall in the English Department praising how much I read. As a child I wanted to become an author so
the ability to enter somebody s thoughts through words on a page has always filled me with a genuine
excitement. There is no doubt that an English degree at University is for me, I want to continue my
love for the subject in depth and take this further to become a Secondary Teacher of English.
Through studying English at University I will be able to study modules that truly fascinate me and
encourage me to read books more imaginatively and critically. Recently in the news it has been said
that due to Brexit there is the possibility that a new language could be forming Euro English.
Developments in the English language never fail to intrigue me as teaching English at a secondary
school is the career I am working towards and this ultimately changes the future of teaching.
At A level I study English Literature, Psychology and Biology all of which are essay based. Essay
based subjects are beneficial to me as this is how I am most comfortable working. I also completed the
Extended Project Qualification in which I chose to write an investigation on the moon landing s of

Papa Burrito Research Paper
Awesome Stacked Papa Burrito
Last week I ate at Acapulco and enjoyed a delicious 12 inch Papa Burrito. The cheesy smell made my
nostrils dance. The beefy aroma made my mouth water. The Chile Verde smothered on top of the
burrito tingled my nose. The rice had an essence of chicken broth and all these ingredients were inside
a soft flour tortilla.
The Papa Burrito looks very large and wide with a lot of flavor inside. I grab a fork and when I cut
into the burrito I saw a mound of beef with melted cheese dripping off from the fork. Surrounding the
burrito was the orangey rice and brownish warm beans on the right of my plate was a pile of fresh
green lettuce topped with a reddish slice of tomato. The whole burrito was topped with a cheesy white

In order to understand the global consumers of L Oreal, they strengthened their global presence in six
regions; Europe, United States, Japan, China, Brazil and India. This enabled L Oreal to come closer to
their global market, as well as to gain the wealth of specific scientific and marketing knowledge of
each region. In India, L Oreal has its product development center in Mumbai from where it studies the
specifics of hair and skin types of the Indian consumers, as well as their expectations and beauty

Fascism And Nazism Similarities
Fascism and Nazism. Both once prominent forms of government during the 20th century, and now the
number of countries that use either one of these governments is diminishing. Fascism and Nazism
both emerged because of a general crisis of the European political system during the late 19th century
to the end of World War 1. Fascism was motivated by the fears of of social as well as political
disintegration, and of political revolution on the part of both ruling of the lower and middle classes
(Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). Europe would later see many Nazi and Fascists movements during
the time period between World War 1 and World War 2; however, in only Italy and Germany did these
forms of government manage to come to power and develop into their respective regimes
(Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). While these two once prominent governments share some
similarities, they also share many differences.
Fascism first exploded onto the political scene during the 1919 as the first mass movement of of the
middle class citizens in both Italy as well as Germany. In this political party, important sections of the
economic and political establishments sought out to attempt to preserve the status quo in the
revolutionary times (Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). This form of government appealed to many
lower and middle class citizens because it made it seem that they were at control of the political party.
Fascism was popular to the public in general just because it brought out a

Lombroso’s Biological Theory of Crime Essay
Lombroso s biological theory of crime:
The most vivid example of the biological determinism is the theory of Cesare Lombroso. Lombroso
based his theory on the assumption that criminals have certain physiognomic features or
abnormalities. Lombroso wanted to be able to detect future criminals in order to isolate them from the
society. This gave criminology a strong push to create new methods of dealing with criminals and
prevent crimes. Lombroso implied that prisoners had common facial characteristics. If to exaggerate
criminals in Lombroso s theory can be identified through the shape of their skulls, asymmetry of the
face and head, large cheekbones, ears and lips, long arms and a twisted nose. Lombroso s theory is the
oldest one and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lombroso considered this born criminals to be the atavisms of the society.
All the biological theories are based on the notion that biological markers foreordain criminal
behavior. The core of all these theories is that genetic factors or any abnormalities which are inherited
or acquired throughout the life, predispose individuals to the criminal behavior. Lombroso s theory
gave life to probably almost every single biological theory that appeared afterward.
Among the biological theories the XYY syndrome occupies a special place, as it analyzes why males
are more often subjects to become criminals due to the presence if an extra Y chromosome. As this
syndrome is in the first place associated with the low IQ level of such males which seems to be a
much better explanation. IQ shortage causes the inability to adjust in the contemporary social world
that requires constant activity and flexibility. People facing these difficulties are left with no other
choice that to turn to criminality. It all starts with low performance at school which results in the
awareness of the irretrievable dissimilitude from others which later on results in deviance. Also such
diseases as Organic Brain Syndrome, ADD or hormonal changes according to the biological theories
play a very important role in the inclination to any criminal activities.
Later in his career Lombroso modified

Analysis Of Culture Jamming By Kalle Lasn
T Culture jamming is a phenomenon with a rich history and deep traditions. This unique social
movement is used by anti consumerists who disrupt mainstream cultural institutions to encourage
people to change. The main assumptions of culture jamming become therefore an act in opposition to
the commercialization of social life, the fight against consumerism and make people aware of the
danger flowing from the corporations developments. The culture jamming movement tries to present
ads with different ways to think about consumerism and convince people to change their lifestyle.
Culture jamming attempts to jam the conveyance of our corporate and media complex and presents
itself as an antagonist toward consumer culture. Kalle Lasn and Rachel Shteir describe what cultural
jamming ostensibly seeks to do. Lasn is considered the founding father of the movement of culture
jamming. The author of the book Culture Jamming, Lasn became famous as the creator of Adbusters

Jammers present parodies of ads and want to unbrand the companies. Lasn says, Living in the
moment, pursuing the authentic gesture, living close to the edge call it what you will when it s
genuine, it s the force that makes life worth living. It is also what consumer capitalism takes away
from you every time it sells you brand name cool or this month s rebel attitude (106). Thus, brand
name products do not give us happiness but rather a false image about ourselves. By advertising, we
are being told what our interests are and we are buying those false interests. We are bombarded with
all these steaming commercials, messages and images that influence our lives. We are being
suffocated by them, and culture jamming is about having impact back. However, at the end of the day,
it is the consumer choice whether or not he/she buys anything. We are defiantly surrounded by ads,
but it does boil down to

Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory Essays
Truman Capote s A Christmas Memory Truman Capote s story A Christmas Memory, is about Capote
s childhood memory of a particular holiday season and how he enjoyed that moment in time with a
special friend. Capote is illustrated by the main character, Buddy. Buddy and his distant cousin have a
bonding friendship and tell of their exploits during that Christmas. They pick out a very special
Christmas tree, make each other presents, and make fruitcakes.
Capote was born in New Orleans as the son of a salesman and a 16 year old beauty queen. His father
worked as a clerk for a steamboat company. He never stayed with any job for long, and was always
leaving home in search of new opportunities. This put a strain on his parent s ... Show more content on

The characters are from a poor socioeconomic background, but they are still able to find the Christmas
spirit. The wealth of their friendship and the gift of giving make them oblivious to the depression
around them. In one particular scene, the friends are baking fruitcakes. They decide that the cakes are
for friends. Not necessarily neighbor friends: indeed, the larger share are intended for persons we ve
met maybe once, perhaps not at all (Capote). This illustrates their giving nature regardless of their own
dreary circumstances. Buddy is a reflection of Truman Capote himself. Capote s childhood was filled
with misfortunes, but yet he was still able to find peace in his friendship with his cousin.
The character of Buddy s cousin also demonstrates simplicity and finding the good in what you have.
She is small sprightly, like a bantam hen; but due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully
hunched (Capote). She is later described as childlike, Buddy says she is still a child (Capote). This
may be some reference to her mental status and that she does not think like an adult, but a child. But
once again, regardless of her less fortunate physical and mental attributes she is still happy and at
peace. Near the end of the story, her and Buddy are out flying the kites that they made for each other.

A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay
Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we
need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of speaking
in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I Corinthians 13:8.
According to him, we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that tongues were to cease at
the end of the apostolic age. However, he also concluded that healings, tongues, interpretation of
tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively miraculous in nature fade not due
to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the Pentecostals, but because they have
fulfilled their purpose.
Argument 3: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel enduring beatings and hardships,
imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in Smyrna [Rev 2:8],
where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them with the Laodicean
church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide examples and warnings to the
Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure.
Conclusion
Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored
by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life.
Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or
spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost,
the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God s message. It is
also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by Paul
in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known to the
speaker that s why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time it
happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. The

Collective Identity And New Social Movements
indicate that both versions should be analyzed to fully understand the phenomenon, and will be done
so through an examination of collective identity and informal mobilization networks.
Collective Identity and New Social Movements
Identity, and more specifically, global identity, is an often contested topic in contemporary literature
on both globalization and new social movements. Critics of globalization cite the loss of localized
cultural identity, especially in developing countries, due to the proliferation of homogenized Western
ideals through advances in communication, as evidence for globalization s destructive nature
(Tomlinson, 2003). Tomlinson (2003) argues that rather than destroying concepts of personal identity,
increased interconnectedness may actually strengthen identity, referencing Manuel Castells argument
that collective identity acts in opposition of capitalist globalization and asserts individuals control over
their own lives (Castells, 1997; Tomlinson, 2003). Theorists have taken this concept and applied it to
new social movement theory by asserting that modern society has assaulted and muddled the concept
of the self, resulting in the necessary pursuit of collective identity, which is defined as an integrated
and continuous social self (Laraña, Johnston, and Gusfield, 1994). This drive for a collective sense of
self, and the power of identity, is reflected in the increase of social movements related to gender,
sexual orientation, ethnicity, and

The Manifest Destiny is an important part of history in the United States. In order for one to

during this time Americans were determined to move westward. The Americans desired to witness the

detected open land in the west, deep within the Americans felt the land signified opportunity and

in the means of the open land was the usage. The Europeans viewed the land as wilderness ready to be

of claiming the land was that the land had already been claimed itself. Upon the very land, lived
American Indians who had built their own civilization including farming, hunting, and raising their

Indians viewed and claimed the land as theirs. This interaction caused the Americans idea of the land

How Did The Gold Rush Affect Immigration
The Gold Rush had an enormous impact on immigration globally, as it brought people from all over
the people. People from countries such as China, Mexico, France and other parts of Europe came to
California in hopes of finding gold and living a happy life. Not only did the presence of immigrants
help the cities grow physically, the immigrants who came from across the globe helped the cities grow
culturally and economically. These immigrants brought with them their own language, culture, and

Early onset It occurs in people between the age group of 30 to 60. If either father or mother carries a
gene mutation for early onset Alzheimer s, then their child will have a fifty percent chance of
inheriting the disease. If the child inherits the gene mutation, his risk factor to get the disease will be
very high. Early onset is caused by any one of a number of different single gene mutations on
chromosomes which causes formation of abnormal proteins.
Late onset Most of the Alzheimer s patients have the late onset form which normally occurs after 60.
The cause of it though not fully known, but they likely are due to a combination of genetic,
environmental and lifestyle factors.
Good news
Many years ago, scientists thought that Alzheimer s was incurable. But recent breakthroughs in
research have given us to hope to cling on. Advances in brain imaging have allowed scientists to
identify the buildup of proteins within a living

Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic Essay
Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic
ABSTRACT: The problem of psychologism in the philosophy of logic and the different solutions of
this problem are considered. Both traditional psychologistic and antipsychologistic solutions are
shown to be untenable and the need for a new solution is demonstrated. The original program of
metapsychologism is advanced as a solution to the problem of psychologism based on deduction
search theory. Two formalized levels of a logical procedure are distinguished: 1) an object level at
which a notion of inference is formalized; 2) a metalevel at which principles of deduction search are
formalized, and a thesis of metapsychologism according to which metalevel processes are formulated.

It is a question about logic and in this sense a question external to logic. This is important to mention
from the very beginning in order to stress that the changes in the solutions of the problem of
psychologism do not influence directly to the solutions of the purely logical tasks. The solution of the
problem of psychologism as a problem of philosophy of logic is motivated partly by the developments
taking place in logic itself and partly by philosophical considerations. (1)
Usually this problem is treated as a question about the relation between logic, on the one side, and
thought or mental processes, on the other side. Thus to understand this question we would need to
answer two other questions: What is logic? What is thought? But neither of these questions is easily
answered in a general form. (2) For the time being, by the term logic , I will understand classical first
order predicate calculus, (3) and by the term thought , the reasoning of a cognitive subject when he
tries to solve a problem of an arbitrary nature without using any formal logical means. Thought , then,
is reasoning carried on without the conscious application of formalized logical laws and rules of
inference. This is still not a very precise understanding of thought, but for the present it is sufficient
for a formulation of the

Blood Splatter Analysis Essay
Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA), known in the criminal justice field as blood splatter analysis, has
been studied since the 1890s. Blood splatter, or bloodstain pattern constructional readings, is a
technique that seeks to piece together the incident that caused an individual s bleeding. Understanding
blood splatter on a wall or various surfaces can be instrumental in formulating if a crime was
committed and if the blood discovered at the crime scene can be used as evidence. The first
documentation of blood splatter research occurred at the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Poland, by
Dr. Eduard Piotrowski . During Dr. Piotrowski s research and documentation period, where he used

This test is portable and may be done at the crime scene. Once tests have determined the presence of
blood, more will be completed in the lab to determine if the blood is animal or human. Other tests will
determine the DNA, which can point the investigator to specific individuals. The completion of the
actual splatter analysis is done by a forensic scientist who establishes the path of the blood and how it
spread over the surface in question. The direction of movement can be determined by measuring the
shape of the bloodstain on a surface. This will also show the approximate speed at which the blood
contacted the surface, assists in distinguishing between the rapid movement of blood (produced by a
gunshot, severing of a main artery), or slower movement of blood from a minor cut. The origination of
blood can be determined by analyzing the size and location of the blood drops. A strong force of
impact will cause the blood to break up into smaller drops. Blood splatter made up of larger drops
with a path of smaller drops can show evidence about how the blood got there and where the blood
came from. An experienced blood splatter expert relies on their eyes and their training in the final
analysis, but will also use other tools such as specialized computer programs which can help in legal
cases . New technologies and methods concerning blood splatter have slowly evolved, but a most

Ww1 Propaganda Essay
While deception tactics began to rise during World War I, these tactics became more sophisticated and
more crucial during the Second World War. Both sides, the Axis, and the Allies had offices dedicated
explicitly to deception and propaganda, giving a more official and efficient style to the deception
campaigns that would emanate.
The first example of Rankin in Curtain Up when in 1929, Germany put on a false raid to obtain a

White s propaganda had kernels of truth which allowed the story to spread easier including field tests
of burning oil on water, flamethrowers, and burned Germans (Rankin, 2009). This propaganda was so
successful in terrifying German soldiers that it helped convince leaders to change their plans of attack
from a naval invasion to an air campaign. This propaganda form of MISO is an example of Grey
propaganda where the source may or may not be correctly identified, and the accuracy of the
information is uncertain, (Guth, 2008). Grey propaganda used by the British falsely propagated their
ability to set fire to the Channel, using the stories that soldiers passed along to each other as well as
mocking pamphlets and radio broadcasts as a medium (Rankin, 2009). This method worked because
the British used framing against the enemy soldiers. Mislead into thinking the most dangerous path
would be across the English Channel by presenting a lot of evidence that the British had the
capabilities to annihilate them before reaching the coast. Propaganda allows for the principle of
framing because the constant bombardment of information will enable people to draw conclusions
based on their experiences. The British can set fire to the Channel and burn any ships or boats sent
across (Tversky and Kahneman,

many different social issues within Iran during the Iranian revolution. The veil is first seen by marjane
as a new clothing item with no meaning but as the novel progresses so does marjane s understanding
of the veil. The reader can associate the veil with oppression and lack of women s rights to express
themselves. The symbol represents the power the Iranian government has on the women of Iran.
Although the veil is a tradition in Iranian culture many women do not want to be forced to wear the

Ethical Issues In Medical Experiments
While designing research and searching for subjects, medical workers and researchers have faced and
still face profound ethical challenges. They have found that interests of knowledge and science do not
always follow the same road as the interests of their subjects health (Mills and Morris 66). Obtaining
full informed consent, balancing risks and benefits, maximizing subject autonomy, and developing
results into treatment is complex and difficult. The government, review committees and researchers
have also had tense interactions as oversight and transparency come up. Most researchers have ended
up experimenting on groups of people who are similar in backgrounds: the majority being low

start may end up doing bad in an environment that is too risky and corrupt (McGinn 139). However,
other people want the right to participate in research. In 1973, people from a county prison in
Pennsylvania protested the ban in the New York Times saying research programs helped them

Elementary teachers not only introduce their students to the basic concepts of core subjects, they also
help pave the path to each student s future success. Education to become a teacher is long and tedious,
and while the income may not be the highest available, watching students develop a new skill or grow
an appreciation for learning can be very rewarding. Because there will always be a need for education,
even with the recent budget cuts, teaching jobs will always have to be available somewhere.
Elementary teachers play an important part in the intellectual development as well as the social
development of their students. The education of young children can affect the way they view
themselves, other people, and the world, and their success throughout life. Usually, one elementary
teacher will teach several subjects to one class, of about 20 students. However, some will work in
teams with other teachers, depending on the type of school ( Career Information: Elementary School
Teachers. ). Teachers are faced with the responsibility of nurturing their students as well as their
education. In the early years of elementary school, teachers introduce their students to the concepts of
reading, writing, and counting. In the later years of elementary, teachers have the task of introducing
the concepts of mathematics, language, science, and social studies. Teachers also have multiple behind

At the heart of the conflicts lay the constitutional status of Northern Ireland. The goal of the unionist
and overwhelmingly Protestant majority was to remain part of the United Kingdom. The goal of the
nationalist and republican, almost exclusively Catholic minority, was to become part of the Republic
of Ireland. Seamus Heaney s presence during the conflicts induced him to ponder upon and write
about the brutal and barbaric consequences in Northern Ireland. The poems in North explore a number
of intriguing and mysterious themes such as the national and cultural past of his homeland, life, death,
sex, gender, and land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The persona, by extension Heaney, likens himself to a comet. Not any comet, but a comet that [is] lost.
Though the comet is part of a wide universe, it is alone. This echoes Heaney s concerns. He feels as
though he is part of the wider community of Ireland, yet he feels psychologically separated from all.
He feels his voice cannot be heard, amongst the masses, that it is covered by those million tons of
light. A hyperbole is used here to depict the insignificance of the comet in universe, and therefore
Heaney in society. He feels worthless. Instead, Heaney wishes for a meteorite. There is a change in
tone from the second stanza to the third. The comet visible at sunset is expected, it should appear. Yet,
the falling star only sometimes appears. The former is expected, whilst the latter is unpredictable.
Heaney himself admires the meteorite, the falling star. This is shown through the use of the
exclamation mark. Unlike the comet which typically follows a cycle, a meteorite is free, it does not
need to abide to a marked trail. Rather, it is able to float and fall whenever and wherever it wishes.
This is metaphoric for Heaney; he wants to be able to express himself freely. Yet, the political
circumstances in Northern Ireland do not allow for such, it forces him to choose sides, to be the voice

The Benefits Of Renewable Energy
Ever since the late 19th century, people have been trying to perfect energy sources to make their lives
easier. An ideal Energy source is one that costs little to produce, little to maintain, and yields a high
energy output. We found a temporary resource that we used for over a century, coal and natural gases.
The problem with sources like these are that they will eventually run out. Renewable energy is energy
that can be produced without depletion. Human have been using a form of renewable energy for
hundreds of years, such as the watermill. Renewable energy is needed because it will never run out, it
is more efficient than today s methods, and it does not pollute the environment with greenhouse gases
such as carbon dioxide. Renewable energy has many benefits such as the unlimited supply of it.
Renewable energy comes in many forms such as solar, hydropower, and wind power. Each source can
never run out unlike the main suppliers of today will eventually run out. In a high population country
like America, you can bet that a good form of transportation is needed. In America, the main source of
transportation is cars but planes, trains and boats also largely contribute to CO2
Emissions. The average American uses approximately 23.4 barrels of oil a year. This plus the amount
of people living in the U.S. equates to 20.7 million barrels each day. This leads to the U.S. importing
2/3rds of its oil from other countries. Since 1999, the oil in these countries have depleted

  • 3. Eddie Mabo Case Study In the Eddie Mabo case, the case related to the ownership and control of land. However, aboriginal land rights were not recognised. In this case there were two major principles, which were terra nullius and native title. Terra Nullis is a legal principle indicating that a particular part of land doesn t belong to anyone or could be considered as no man s land. Only Captain Cook in 1770 claimed all of the east coast under international recognised law at the time. It followed three ground rules. The rules were if the land is uninhabited, any country could claim ownership and settle the land under the principle of terra nullius. If the land was inhabited, another country could request the leaders of the indigenous inhabitants for permission to make use of some of the land. This may involve making a land purchase, or coming to some other agreement such as treaty which was agreeable to the indigenous population. The last rule meant that a country already inhabited could be conquered through invasion and war, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Western Australia created the Land (Titles and Traditional usages) Act 1993. This Act was to end the common law of native title. Also, this Act was purposely created to deal with disputes between mining companies and indigenous people over the right to certain areas of land. Previously the Commonwealth Government tried to keep away from the conflicts between State Governments over indigenous land rights. However, the then PM Paul Keating of the Labour Government wanted to find a way to help those in need of rights. There was a risk with this decision as some other State Governments might try to legislate to stop indigenous land rights as Western Australia had done. This led to the Commonwealth Government putting forward its own legislation. The Act that was created was the Native Title Act 1993 (Cwlth). It was passed in late December 1993 and began in force in January 1st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Scientific Revolution Research Paper The Scientific Revolution Have you ever thought when the humanity stepped into a new era of its history? It happened during The Scientific Revolution when humans views on nature and the world were drastically transformed with the help of discoveries in the field of physics, science, mathematics chemistry, biology, and astronomy. That period of the history was very important for humanity because of the collapse of the ancient medieval picture of the world, new scientific discoveries and the interaction between science and other social institutions. The biggest achievement in the Scientific Revolution was the collapse of the ancient medieval picture of the world. The new ideology was created, which helped to create the modern science. In antiquity, the focus was on natural and cosmic life; during the Renaissance, there was a focus on understanding the world through Humanism and the role of the person in the world. After all, Descartes s philosophy, which was the foundations of the scientific method, did not deny the creation of the world by God. However, it claimed that from that moment the world began to develop with its internal laws. The next contributions to science were new scientific inventions. • 5. Mate Selection Mate selection is an evolutionary process in which selection is dependent on the attractiveness of an individual s phenotypic trait, such as age and sex. For example, women feel that reliability, dominance, wealth and generosity are important in a mate, while men believe attractiveness and creativity are important. Women investment more time in searching for a mate because women are, typically, responsible for birthing and raising a child and need a mate that would protect her and their offspring and provide for them. Men, on the other hand, do not invest much in mate selection. When resources are scarce, women seek resources in their mate and man look for attractiveness. However, the goal is to locate the best possible mate. Age differences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Passion For Reading My passion for reading is an aspect of me that has never failed to go unnoticed it is hardly a surprise for those around me to see a book in my hand wherever I go, absorbed by a world that was not invented by me. As a result of this, I was recognised within school as my picture was placed on the wall in the English Department praising how much I read. As a child I wanted to become an author so the ability to enter somebody s thoughts through words on a page has always filled me with a genuine excitement. There is no doubt that an English degree at University is for me, I want to continue my love for the subject in depth and take this further to become a Secondary Teacher of English. Through studying English at University I will be able to study modules that truly fascinate me and encourage me to read books more imaginatively and critically. Recently in the news it has been said that due to Brexit there is the possibility that a new language could be forming Euro English. Developments in the English language never fail to intrigue me as teaching English at a secondary school is the career I am working towards and this ultimately changes the future of teaching. At A level I study English Literature, Psychology and Biology all of which are essay based. Essay based subjects are beneficial to me as this is how I am most comfortable working. The beefy aroma made my mouth water. The Chile Verde smothered on top of the burrito tingled my nose. The rice had an essence of chicken broth and all these ingredients were inside a soft flour tortilla. The Papa Burrito looks very large and wide with a lot of flavor inside. I grab a fork and when I cut into the burrito I saw a mound of beef with melted cheese dripping off from the fork. Surrounding the burrito was the orangey rice and brownish warm beans on the right of my plate was a pile of fresh green lettuce topped with a reddish slice of tomato. • 9. Fascism And Nazism Similarities Fascism and Nazism. Both once prominent forms of government during the 20th century, and now the number of countries that use either one of these governments is diminishing. Fascism and Nazism both emerged because of a general crisis of the European political system during the late 19th century to the end of World War 1. Fascism was motivated by the fears of of social as well as political disintegration, and of political revolution on the part of both ruling of the lower and middle classes (Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). Europe would later see many Nazi and Fascists movements during the time period between World War 1 and World War 2; however, in only Italy and Germany did these forms of government manage to come to power and develop into their respective regimes (Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). While these two once prominent governments share some similarities, they also share many differences. Fascism first exploded onto the political scene during the 1919 as the first mass movement of of the middle class citizens in both Italy as well as Germany. In this political party, important sections of the economic and political establishments sought out to attempt to preserve the status quo in the revolutionary times (Encylopedia.com Editors, 2017). This form of government appealed to many lower and middle class citizens because it made it seem that they were at control of the political party. • 10. Lombroso’s Biological Theory of Crime Essay Lombroso s biological theory of crime: The most vivid example of the biological determinism is the theory of Cesare Lombroso. Lombroso based his theory on the assumption that criminals have certain physiognomic features or abnormalities. Lombroso wanted to be able to detect future criminals in order to isolate them from the society. This gave criminology a strong push to create new methods of dealing with criminals and prevent crimes. Lombroso implied that prisoners had common facial characteristics. If to exaggerate criminals in Lombroso s theory can be identified through the shape of their skulls, asymmetry of the face and head, large cheekbones, ears and lips, long arms and a twisted nose. All the biological theories are based on the notion that biological markers foreordain criminal behavior. The core of all these theories is that genetic factors or any abnormalities which are inherited or acquired throughout the life, predispose individuals to the criminal behavior. Lombroso s theory gave life to probably almost every single biological theory that appeared afterward. Among the biological theories the XYY syndrome occupies a special place, as it analyzes why males are more often subjects to become criminals due to the presence if an extra Y chromosome. As this syndrome is in the first place associated with the low IQ level of such males which seems to be a much better explanation. IQ shortage causes the inability to adjust in the contemporary social world that requires constant activity and flexibility. People facing these difficulties are left with no other choice that to turn to criminality. It all starts with low performance at school which results in the awareness of the irretrievable dissimilitude from others which later on results in deviance. Also such diseases as Organic Brain Syndrome, ADD or hormonal changes according to the biological theories play a very important role in the inclination to any criminal activities. • 13. Analysis Of Culture Jamming By Kalle Lasn T Culture jamming is a phenomenon with a rich history and deep traditions. This unique social movement is used by anti consumerists who disrupt mainstream cultural institutions to encourage people to change. The main assumptions of culture jamming become therefore an act in opposition to the commercialization of social life, the fight against consumerism and make people aware of the danger flowing from the corporations developments. The culture jamming movement tries to present ads with different ways to think about consumerism and convince people to change their lifestyle. Culture jamming attempts to jam the conveyance of our corporate and media complex and presents itself as an antagonist toward consumer culture. Kalle Lasn and Rachel Shteir describe what cultural jamming ostensibly seeks to do. Lasn is considered the founding father of the movement of culture jamming. Thus, brand name products do not give us happiness but rather a false image about ourselves. By advertising, we are being told what our interests are and we are buying those false interests. We are bombarded with all these steaming commercials, messages and images that influence our lives. We are being suffocated by them, and culture jamming is about having impact back. • 14. Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory Essays Truman Capote s A Christmas Memory Truman Capote s story A Christmas Memory, is about Capote s childhood memory of a particular holiday season and how he enjoyed that moment in time with a special friend. Capote is illustrated by the main character, Buddy. Buddy and his distant cousin have a bonding friendship and tell of their exploits during that Christmas. They pick out a very special Christmas tree, make each other presents, and make fruitcakes. Capote was born in New Orleans as the son of a salesman and a 16 year old beauty queen. His father worked as a clerk for a steamboat company. He never stayed with any job for long, and was always leaving home in search of new opportunities. This put a strain on his parent s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The characters are from a poor socioeconomic background, but they are still able to find the Christmas spirit. The wealth of their friendship and the gift of giving make them oblivious to the depression around them. In one particular scene, the friends are baking fruitcakes. They decide that the cakes are for friends. Not necessarily neighbor friends: indeed, the larger share are intended for persons we ve met maybe once, perhaps not at all (Capote). This illustrates their giving nature regardless of their own dreary circumstances. Buddy is a reflection of Truman Capote himself. Capote s childhood was filled with misfortunes, but yet he was still able to find peace in his friendship with his cousin. The character of Buddy s cousin also demonstrates simplicity and finding the good in what you have. She is small sprightly, like a bantam hen; but due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote). She is later described as childlike, Buddy says she is still a child (Capote). This may be some reference to her mental status and that she does not think like an adult, but a child. But once again, regardless of her less fortunate physical and mental attributes she is still happy and at peace. Near the end of the story, her and Buddy are out flying the kites that they made for each other. Though these may seem like ordinary gifts to many, to them they are the best gifts they have ever ... • 16. A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I Corinthians 13:8. According to him, we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that tongues were to cease at the end of the apostolic age. However, he also concluded that healings, tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively miraculous in nature fade not due to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the Pentecostals, but because they have fulfilled their purpose. Argument 3: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel enduring beatings and hardships, imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in Smyrna [Rev 2:8], where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them with the Laodicean church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide examples and warnings to the Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure. Conclusion Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life. Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God s message. It is also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by Paul in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known to the speaker that s why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time it happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. Collective Identity And New Social Movements indicate that both versions should be analyzed to fully understand the phenomenon, and will be done so through an examination of collective identity and informal mobilization networks. Collective Identity and New Social Movements Identity, and more specifically, global identity, is an often contested topic in contemporary literature on both globalization and new social movements. Critics of globalization cite the loss of localized cultural identity, especially in developing countries, due to the proliferation of homogenized Western ideals through advances in communication, as evidence for globalization s destructive nature (Tomlinson, 2003). Tomlinson (2003) argues that rather than destroying concepts of personal identity, increased interconnectedness may actually strengthen identity, referencing Manuel Castells argument that collective identity acts in opposition of capitalist globalization and asserts individuals control over their own lives (Castells, 1997; Tomlinson, 2003). Theorists have taken this concept and applied it to new social movement theory by asserting that modern society has assaulted and muddled the concept of the self, resulting in the necessary pursuit of collective identity, which is defined as an integrated and continuous social self (Laraña, Johnston, and Gusfield, 1994). This drive for a collective sense of self, and the power of identity, is reflected in the increase of social movements related to gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and ... Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic Essay Metapsychologism In The Philosophy Of Logic ABSTRACT: The problem of psychologism in the philosophy of logic and the different solutions of this problem are considered. Both traditional psychologistic and antipsychologistic solutions are shown to be untenable and the need for a new solution is demonstrated. The original program of metapsychologism is advanced as a solution to the problem of psychologism based on deduction search theory. Two formalized levels of a logical procedure are distinguished: 1) an object level at which a notion of inference is formalized; 2) a metalevel at which principles of deduction search are formalized, and a thesis of metapsychologism according to which metalevel processes are formulated. ... This is important to mention from the very beginning in order to stress that the changes in the solutions of the problem of psychologism do not influence directly to the solutions of the purely logical tasks. The solution of the problem of psychologism as a problem of philosophy of logic is motivated partly by the developments taking place in logic itself and partly by philosophical considerations. (1) Usually this problem is treated as a question about the relation between logic, on the one side, and thought or mental processes, on the other side. Thus to understand this question we would need to answer two other questions: What is logic? What is thought? But neither of these questions is easily answered in a general form. (2) For the time being, by the term logic , I will understand classical first order predicate calculus, (3) and by the term thought , the reasoning of a cognitive subject when he tries to solve a problem of an arbitrary nature without using any formal logical means. Thought , then, is reasoning carried on without the conscious application of formalized logical laws and rules of inference. Understanding blood splatter on a wall or various surfaces can be instrumental in formulating if a crime was committed and if the blood discovered at the crime scene can be used as evidence. The completion of the actual splatter analysis is done by a forensic scientist who establishes the path of the blood and how it spread over the surface in question. The direction of movement can be determined by measuring the shape of the bloodstain on a surface. This will also show the approximate speed at which the blood contacted the surface, assists in distinguishing between the rapid movement of blood (produced by a gunshot, severing of a main artery), or slower movement of blood from a minor cut. The origination of blood can be determined by analyzing the size and location of the blood drops. A strong force of impact will cause the blood to break up into smaller drops. Blood splatter made up of larger drops with a path of smaller drops can show evidence about how the blood got there and where the blood came from.
