The Great Historians Missionary That I Just Wanted For...
As I started my research I found so many great historians missionary that I just wanted to share their
missions. February 1, 1823, Betsey Stockton, a young black woman in company with 13 white
missionaries, was on board a ship rounding the southern tip of South America. The missionaries were
on their way to the Sandwich Islands (present day Hawaii). They had left New Haven, Connecticut in
November, sent out by the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions, an agency at the
forefront of American Protestantism s burgeoning interest in foreign missions. Betsey Stockton was in
the second group of missionaries to go to Hawaii, the first having arrived two years before. Besides
Stockton, there were six couples and a single man, plus three Hawaiian men and a Tahitian. The trip
took five months by sea with no stopovers. Like others on board, Stockton kept a journal of the
voyage and of her first couple of months in Hawaii. She had joined the company partly as a
missionary and partly as a servant to one of the couples, Rev. and Mrs. Charles S. Stewart, who were
expecting a child. However, Betsey s contract with the American Board did make clear that she was
not to be simply a servant but was also to share in the mission s primary work. February 2, 1911,
during a morning devotional hour at Central Texas College in Waco, a teacher, Eliza George, has a
vision of black Africans passing before the judgment seat of Christ. Weeping and moaning, many of
them were saying, No

Ramifications For Adopted Children
Although adopted children may be fortunate in being adopted by loving and caring families, this is not
always the case. There are some cases where adopted children are brought to the poor care of adopting
families. There are a number of ramifications for both the adopted child and the family. A few
ramifications for the adopted child are developing self esteem issues, identity issues, grief, and guilt.
Children with low self esteem may feel like they are not worth being in the family. Compared to the
biological children of the parents, the adopted child may feel like the parents may not love them as
much as they do with their biological children. Also, they may feel like they may not be treated
equally. Identity crisis may be one of the major

A Career in Social Work
A Career in Social Work
I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI code,
this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I also feel
that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel my
communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and families.
Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a
bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework hours in
areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum requirement
to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work under the supervision
of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licenses which both require
a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State University campuses in the southern
California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In particular, the University of Southern
California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full time social workers must also be prepared to
work 40 hours per week, occasionally working evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with
clients, or handle emergencies. In addition to fulfilling all these preparation requirements, successful
social workers must be deeply compassionate, a good listener, and an effective

Essay On Valuation Risk And Return
Valuation, Risk, and Return
Five years ago, Laissez Faire Recliners issued $10,000,000 of corporate bonds with a 30 year
maturity. The bonds have a coupon rate of 10.125%, pay interest semiannually, and have a par value
of $1,000 per bond. The bonds are currently trading at a price of $879.625 per bond. A 25 year
Treasury bond with a 6.825% coupon rate (paid semi annual) and $1,000 par is currently selling for
$975.42. In order to find the yield spread between the corporate bonds and the Treasury bonds we
must first find the yields of both bonds. The yield is the amount of return an investor can expect to
receive from a bond. The yield for the corporate bond (found using the yield formula in excel) is
11.57%. The yield for the Treasury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition we believe the firm is in a constant state of growth, and our required rate of return for
investments at the risk level of 18%. The firm s common stock is currently trading for $45 per share.
If we are looking at whether or not we would purchase these shares or not we must first calculate the
return on equity, which is done by net income (1,417,500) by the stockholders equity (6,000,000),
which gives us a return of equity of 15.5%. This is only accurate when calculating the present value of
cash flows method. Another method is the free cash flow method, which we calculate by looking at
the year, growth status, growth rate, FCF calculation, FCF and WACC. The growth status is given as
constant and the growth rate is given at 15.5%. This makes the FCF calculation of 1.15. The first year
FCF is also given as $109,237. In order to calculate the following years FCF we take the first years
FCF ($109,237) and multiply it by (1+WACC) the weighted average cost of capital is also given at the
appropriate discount rate of 15.83%. Using the before mentioned formula we find that the FCF of year
two is $126529.22. If Laissez Faire s common stock were to have a more fluctuated growth pater
(25% in years 1 through 6, 20% in years 7 through 10, and 15% for years 11 and beyond), the
purchase decision would change. This growth is exponentially more profitable to the purchaser and

The Portland s Water System Essay
I have learned about the Portland s water system in the first of a few weeks. I have learned the
Portland s water resources, water quality management, history of water system, water transportation
system, and water issues in Portland area. Now, I compare Portland s water system to another city in
the United States. I pick up Seattle s water system because I lived in Seattle for two years before I
move to Portland, and I m interested in the Seattle s water system. In this journal, I write about the
following sections: History of Seattle s water system, water resources, water quality management,
water transportation, water issues in Seattle, and conclusion (similarities and differences between
Seattle s water system and Portland s water system). History: In the 19th century, Seattle s water came
from springs, wells, and private water companies. However, the population of Seattle increased in the
late 19th century, and the demand for water supply also increased. In June 6, 1889, there was a large
fire what is called Great Seattle Fire in downtown Seattle. After this event, government decided to
establish municipal water system. After this plan was approved, the government constructed the Cedar
River water system. On January 10th, 1901, water from the Cedar River flowed into Seattle s water
system for the first time. A pipeline channeled water to the Lincoln reservoirs and the Volunteer Park
on Capitol Hill. When the water system constructed, the water system capacity was 23.5

Neural Mechanisms in Controlling Eating Behaviour
Outline and evaluate the role of neural mechanisms in controlling eating behaviour (24 marks)
Today there is enormous interest in the psychological factors that can affects a person s eating habits,
but some of the clearest research findings have come from research into the brain (neural) mechanisms
controlling eating behaviour.
One important mechanism to consider is the role of homeostasis in all mammals. Homeostasis is how
the body maintains a constant internal environment. Our diet is essential to homeostasis as it provides
the nutrients that allow physiological processes to be regulated within narrow limits. The body has
evolved two separate systems one for turning eating on and one for turning eating off . Glucose levels

The protein leptin is produced in response to satiation which is secreted into the bloodstream from fat
tissue, leading to fat loss and decreased appetite. To support the role of this protein, Zhang et.al
injected two copies of the gene for obesity into some mice and these ob/ob mice had a tendency to
overeat. They discovered that the ob/ob mice had a defective gene for the protein leptin and were
unable to experience a decrease in appetite as well as fat loss. However, injecting these mice with
leptin caused them to lose weight dramatically. This shows how proteins also have a role in
controlling our eating behaviour and not only neural mechanisms.
Moreover, thinking about a food makes us feel hungry but also food related smells and sights. The
neural control of these cognitive factors in hunger probably originates in the main brain area the
amygdala and the inferior prefrontal cortex. The amygdala plays a role in selecting foods based on
previous experience. To support this, Rolls and Rolls found that surgically removing the amygdala in
rats would cause the animals to consume both familiar and novel foods indiscriminately, whereas
amygdala intact rats would initially avoid novel foods and consume only the more palatable familiar
foods instead. This suggests how our previous experience in eating certain foods alters what we eat
due to the role of the amygdala processing such

Parent Monitoring
Do your parent s monitor or control what do you on your phone? If so, I disagree with this I think
children should have full access to their phones without their parents monitoring it. Parents should not
be allowed to control or monitor their kid s social media.
To begin, there is a fine line where parents can control and watch over their children on social media.
Watching over a kid and controlling them will make them want to do the stuff that you aren t letting
them do, for example, if you watch over your kid s phone they will find a way to be able to bypass it
or won t use their phone. The article says, There s considerable evidence that intruding on kids privacy
damages the parent child relationship, says Petronio. When parents snoop, they show mistrust, she
says. That overarching need for control really damages the relationship. (Parents Shouldn t Spy on
Their Kids). The reason that I chose this quote is that this shows just one of much important
information why parents shouldn t spy on their children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

too strict with point them in the opposite direction. The passage states, While parents have an
obligation to guide their children and protect them from harm, adolescence is still a time for testing
limits, says Judith Smetana, a professor of psychology who studies adolescent parent relationships at
the University of Rochester. (Parents Shouldn t Spy on Their Kids). The reason that this quote was
pulled is because it supports my topic and how I as a person feels about this topic of parents

Winnie The Pooh Friendship Theme
Winnie The Pooh is a collection of tales about the adventures of Pooh and all his friends. This book is
written like a narrative in which the author is the narrator. The collection of chapters do not all go
along with one another and can be read separately without any particular order. This book starts off
with the story about how Pooh was previously known as Edward Bear until he wanted a new name in
which Christopher Robin, his owner, came up with the name Winnie The Pooh. The name Pooh came
from a swam Christopher Robin had once before. After Pooh s introduction the book goes on to talk
about all the adventures Pooh went on throughout his life. One chapter talks about Pooh going through
the trouble of sneaking honey from the bees by using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All throughout the book Pooh is never embarking on journeys alone. He is always accompanied by a
companion, whether it was Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyore, or the Rabbit. One of the most
prominent relationships was between Pooh and Christopher Robin. At the end of some of the chapters,
Christopher Robin is telling the narrator he was going to take a bath. He never manages to leave Pooh
behind as he picks him up by the leg, and walked up the stairs trailing Pooh behind him going bump,
bump, bump up the stairs (pg. 21 161). Pooh wasn t just any old bear to Christopher Robin.
Christopher adored Pooh and treated him as if he was real. He wanted the narrator to re tell these
stories for Pooh and tell him about their different adventures. Not only was this evident throughout the
story, but also through the illustrations. Each illustration has a scene with Pooh and at least one other
character showing their closeness. Children can relate to that one stuffed animal that they took
everywhere with them. This is almost like one of the first friendships a child has. Although it is with a
stuffed animal, the reader is able to get the sense of how much Pooh means to Christopher. Making
and keeping friends is not always easy and in middle school this can be especially difficult. This
would be a good lesson to teach them the

I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three...
In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as
important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our
remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon
description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual human
experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an
intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as
the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41). To
emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact made
with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon
present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are
memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely.
An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating
his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each
object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or
occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain aspects that needs to be

The Imorality Of War In Mythology, By Edith Hamilton, And...
Members of the human race can be very petty, able to create huge issues from small things. The Trojan
war is an example of such.Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by
the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as bruta, petty, and wicked. The war begun over a dense
reason, the kidnapping of a beautiful woman, Helen. The Greek leader, Menelaus wanted her back for
himself, so he and his brother, along with a fleet of a thousand ships, went to demand her return. Thus,
a bloody war started, leading to the deaths of many great soldiers, and the sacrifices of young children.
Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by the greek poet Homer, war
is displayed as brutal and wicked. The story of the Trojan War myth criticizes the horrors and
immorality of war.
The Trojan War was a story criticizing war, showing how humans can become savages during a time
of war. On page 207, it was stated that the ongoing conflict was not fighting, it was butchery.
Furthermore, on the same page, Edith Hamilton exemplifies the battle, The Greeks ... were borne
down by desperate men who wanted only to kill before they were killed. (Hamilton, 207) This
savagery evolved from the killing between the Greeks and the Trojans to the sacrifice of children. For
example, Hector s son. In order to fully show the emotional pain involved in this ordeal, Hamilton
includes speech between Andromache (Hector s wife) and her young son. Saying goodbye to him,

The Manipulation Of Ethical Decision Making
The Manipulation of Ethical Decision Making Thought Ethical Leadership
This paper focuses on discussing the existence of Ethical Leadership , and how it ties into ethical
decision making. Ethical decision making and ethical leadership go hand and hand forming the basis
of an ethical organizations. Ethical leadership guides the Corporate Culture thus heavily influencing
ethical decision making. Ethical leadership is the guide for organizational ethical decision making, via
its manipulation of the corporate culture.
Pros of the Issue
In order to understand Ethical Leadership; one must understand what ethics, and leadership are. Ethics
are simply our principles; or values and beliefs, these define what is right and wrong to us thus;
governing our behavior. Leadership however; is the process of influencing others to achieve goals.
Therefore; a simple definition of ethical leadership is it the process of influencing people through
principles, values and beliefs that encompass what we have defined as right behavior.
If leadership is a process of social influence, then it stand to reason that leaders possess the ability to
influence others both positive and negative in regards to ethical decision making. It also stands to
reason that if leader have strong personal values, they will possess strong Ethical Leadership. Some

has an elevation of 796 feet above sea level. Hayes Leonard Elementary school has an elevation of
728 above sea level. As seen in these elevations, Northview would have the highest view point, with
the added 40 feet of the observation tower, for the children to view the weather patterns and clouds.
Scenario 2
The more difficult route of the two routes would be the one that starts 10 miles upstream and ends up
back in the town of Jim Thorpe. The elevation at the starting point of the more difficult route is 765
feet and the ending point is 524 feet. The distance is 10 miles which means the gradient is 24.1 feet
per mile. The less difficult routes starting point elevation is 522 feet and ending point is 386 feet. The
distance was again 10 miles, this means the gradient is 13.6 feet per mile. Gradient is found by taking
the lower elevation and subtract that from the upper elevation, then divide the difference by the
distance. The route traveling to the town of Jim Thorpe has larger gradient which means the water in
this path will flow faster. The faster the water flows the more difficult the path is. Therefore the more
difficult path would be the path starting upstream and traveling

Demonstrative Theme Of Courtly Love In The Knight s Tale
Courtly love is a very demonstrative theme in The Knight s Tale. In this tale, two cousins are faced
with the temptations of courtly love as well as lust, and have to choose between their relationship, or a
fake relationship with a beautiful woman. For a better understanding, courtly love is a knight flirting
with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two men flirting with the same person.
This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious competitors, which is what
happens to Palamon and Arcite in this story. They are prisoners of war, and locked in a tower for
eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, Emily, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each other
for her hand.
The story starts with two cousins, Palamon and Arcite, locked in a tower in Athens after surviving a
battle. During their time in confinement, they see a woman in a garden. They immediately fall in love
and fight for her. When Palamon escapes, he, in disguise, works as a servant for Emilie s father.
Shortly after, Arcite escapes, and flees to a grove. It is the same grove as Palamon happens to be in.
when they discover each other, they are ready to fight to the death until Theseus, the Man who
originally captured them, finds them and decides to let them fight in a publicised arena, for Emilie s
hand. They both fight hard until Palamon wins Emilie s hand.
There are a lot of connections between Palamon and Arcite, and are important in this story. Both are

The Issue of Palestinian Refugees Right of Return
The Issue of Right of Return of the Palestinian Refugees
The problem is that Israelis and Palestinians are divided over the more than 4 million Palestinian
refugees who insist on returning to the homes that they lost during the 1948 and later during the 6 Day
War in 1967. Palestinians claim that these were their homes and they have a right to return to them
Israelis, on the other hand, generally, find the idea of such an exponential return of Palestinians to the
heart of Israel frightening since it may override the ratio of balance of Palestinians to Israelis as well
as importing possible terrorism (e.g. Quandt, 2005)
The refuge problem first initiated with the 1948 War Which Israelis dub the War of Independence and
Palestinians call the Nakba when some 700,000 Arab residents (85%) left their home, some
voluntarily, others forced, finding refuge in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Gaza Strip, which was
then administered by Egypt. Others were left homeless in Israel. (Brynen, 2007) whilst the Six Day
War caused a further flight of 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians from Israeli won territory.
The Oslo Accords in 1993, negotiated by the EU, Israel, and the US, recognized a Palestinian state
under the Fatah party (led by Yasser Arafat) and established that the Palestinian refugees would be
controlled by this rule. They also planned to solve the refugee problem (largely by monetary
compensation) by 1996. Unrest and terrorism, as well as internal conflict on the solution,

V. Qualifications of workers in this field.
There are multiple conditions in order to endure such a field as criminal justice, gender not being a
key element in order to continue on this path. Although females are not widely known to take part in
this area, doesn t mean they don t. Majority in the field are males, standing at 73.5% and women only

agency has increased merely 60% and are still strongly growing. Some aspects that are needed in
pursuing this career are as follows, age, fitness, health, and personality. To meet the age qualifications
for an job application under the FBI, there is a policy requirement of maintaining an age between 23
and 37 when you are appointed. The only exception however, for this policy is if you are a returning
veteran with experience in the criminal justice field. Another factor in obtaining a job within this
career is having the health and physical qualifications met. The first fitness assessment is a 300 meter

Commodity Chain Analysis
Introduction
The late twentieth century and early twenty first century trends towards the continuing integration of
the world economy have attracted the attention of geographers who seek to assess the impacts that
globalization processes have at various geographic scales.1 The banana has a rich history of
globalization, and for this reason, this essay will explore the commodity chain that shows the
trajectory that the banana takes in order to be produced in the Caribbean, Latin America and
elsewhere, then transported through the sea, next entering grocery stores throughout the world and
finally consumed in the homes of millions. Commodity chain analyses allow modern day geographers

By 1993, the Banana Empire ceased to exist due to Panama Disease, ongoing labour issues, the rise of
new competition and the increased assertiveness of host country governments all contributed to the
growing intricacy of the industry. Nowadays, the modern banana farmer has been exposed to many
pesticides, which have led to adverse health conditions for the majority of workers but working
conditions and wages are on the rise currently. The introduction of fair trade bananas in 2004 was
fundamental in bettering the working conditions for farmers and labourers.
Chiquita, the oldest banana transnational in Latin America was the primary target of banana worker
rights and environmental activists until 2001. The company has since teamed up with the Rainforest

itself on its recent changes, which have involved revamping the company to promote The Chiquita

and food safety.7 These changes arose from the use of political activism by consumers in response to
poor workers rights, thus exemplifying the fact that people do realize where their food is coming from

Why A Pressure Washer Is Useful And Worth The Expense
If you re thinking of buying a pressure washer to clean the siding on your house, but you re afraid it s
not a good investment since you don t need to clean your siding very often, you don t have to worry. A
pressure washer is one of the most useful pieces of cleaning equipment you can own. You ll find a
variety of uses for it such as cleaning your driveway and washing your car or truck. Here are a few
other uses for a pressure washer you may not have considered.
Bring An Old Wood Fence Back To Life
A pressure washer is great for blasting dirt off a chain link or vinyl fence. However, it really comes in
handy when you want to restore an old wood fence. As a wood fence ages, the wood oxidizes and
turns a silver or gray color. What you may not know is that the silver color is just on the surface and
you can blast it off with a pressure washer. Just don t use a setting that s so high it damages the wood.
Adjust the pressure so the water is strong enough to take off the silver layer and the color of your
fence will be restored so you fence practically looks brand new. ... Show more content on

Writer s Style: Arundhati Roy s style is very different from others. She writes with great detail and
incorporates deep imagery. She writes in flashbacks to show how the twins childhoods still affect them
as adults. She begins with the family s lives when they are older, and go back to when the twins were
children. This helps readers know what happens to the family before finding out about the events that
occur in between.
Symbols: Pappachi s moth symbolizes fear. It is first mentioned in chapter 2 when Pappachi discovers
a new moth species, but does not claim that he discovered it.

Argumentative Essay On French Fries
First, have you ever wonder what homemade French fries taste like? Well, for me it tastes like a
memory that scar my taste buds forever. It all began when Lee was fifteen years old. She thought she
was an amazing cook. She was learning how to cook rice, beans, chicken and mixing food together to
see what science experiment will come out. Honestly, it all tasted somewhat... bad. But I still had hope
that she would learn how to cook and that it tastes... well... good. But I should have listened to my gut
feeling, which was DON T EAT IT!
One day, my sister told me, Hey Hector, do you want to eat something? This was a test, a test that she
would use against me if I answered wrong. I replied, What do you want to eat? I knew this would at ...

I learned at that second that to get rid of excess oil, all you need is a paper towel. My sister almost
used up the whole roll. She put the nuggets on a plate and said, The nuggets are done, but don t eat it
cause it s hot. By the time I m done frying the fries it should be cool enough to eat. I believed her.
However, something inside me kept saying something was wrong, but I mean my mom didn t say
anything so it couldn t be bad. Right?
When the fries were done, they looked good! The nuggets looked like they came out of Wendy s, and
honestly smelled even better. I got my plate ready and started to put five nuggets on my plate. My
sister was right: the nuggets were not hot, but warm, and the fries were freshly hot. I put a ton of fries
on my plate, sat down, and began to eat the fries. Thank you, Lee! I said. Lee turn and said, You re
welcome Hector. I want you to have the best of the best. I held my breath and didn t say anything after
she replied. Honestly, it tasted somewhat different from normal restaurant fries, but because she was
so happy, I didn t want to hurt her feelings so I continued eating. She sat down next to me and we both
eat together.
Minutes later, my stomach started to hurt really bad. I told Lee, I feel sick. She replied, Then go to the
bathroom. Right then I turned around and threw up. Everything I ate and drank was on the floor. Lee
yelled out to my mom and she rushed to help clean everything up. I ran to the

The Human Body Cope With Stress
I am someone who is deeply interested in studying the human condition as it ranges in response to a
variety of life experiences and stressors. Humans respond to stress differently and largely as a function
of their environmental context. The many ways in which the systems of the human body cope with
stress can influence long term health and developmental outcomes that may even cross over into
subsequent generations.
Much of my curiosity in learning about human development stems from my own family background.
In fact, my parents are refugees from the country of Eritrea; they fled from the Eritrean Ethiopian civil
war as the people of Eritrea fought for their independence from Ethiopian rule. My parents, along with
thousands of others, sought political asylum and eventually found refuge in the United States. My
parents recount their experiences of having to stealthily travel from camp to camp and entering
neighboring countries that forced them to assimilate for the sake of their safety and survival.
Currently, Eritrea continues to experience a outflux of its citizens by the thousands as they attempt to
escape the despotism in government that currently plagues the land.
The experiences of my parents and the countless other immigrants of Eritrea motivate me so strongly
to focus and draw parallels to the current experiences of people who have been directly impacted by
the crisis in Syria. It inspires me to grasp a better understanding firsthand of the affected Syrian

Outward Conformity
James Joyce s novel, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, follows the main character, Stephen
Dedalus, through his childhood in Ireland, focusing on the decisions Stephen makes as a young adult
that will shape his future. Throughout the novel, there is tension created by the battle between outward
conformity to his church and the inward questioning of religion. This can be seen through Stephen
attaining the life he longs for while sacrificing the normalities he has assimilated to while maturing.
This contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole, in that the paths taken in life ultimately lead to
sacrifice. Stephen chooses a different path than that set up for him by his family and the principal
members of his Catholic school leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the time he was young, he invented words such as moocow demonstrating his imagination. At
the beginning of Stephen s life, his creativity does not interfere with his religion, unlike later in the
novel. This creativity, however, hinders Stephen from congealing with the boys at his school, he does
not think the same way they do. He is even pushed into a square ditch after being harassed and taunted
by the boys who ask him if he kisses his mother. This is significant because his outward hesitation
reveals Stephen s attempt at conformity, while his inward inquiry of what was the right answer to the
question? (10) causes a division between him and the other students. The tensions between conformity
and questioning sever his connection to his peers. The struggles Stephen faces in the very beginning of
his Catholic school years stem not from his lack of conformity to religion, but lack of harmonizing
with the other students. At this point, Stephen even defends his religion inwardly as well as outwardly.
This can be seen when some of the dinner guests, Casey and Dante, argue over the religious state

Software Development Life Cycle Essay

Subject : Basic Software Development Life Cycle.
Introduction:
A software development process is a structure imposed on the development of a software product.
Synonyms include software life cycle and software process. There are several models for such
processes, each describing approaches to a variety of tasks or activities that take place during the
process.

The decisions taken in the analysis phase are out and out due to the requirements analysis.
Design
Once the analysis is over, the design phase begins. The aim is to create the architecture of the total
system. This is one of the important stages of the process and serves to be a benchmark stage since the
errors performed until this stage and during this stage can be cleared here.
Most of the developers have the habit of developing a prototype of the entire software and represent
the software as a miniature model. The flaws, both technical and design, can be found and removed
and the entire process can be redesigned.
Development and Implementation
The development and implementation phase is the most important phase since it is the phase where
the main part of the project is done. The basic works include the design of the basic technical
architecture and the maintenance of the database records and programs related to the development
process.
One of the main scenarios is the implementation of the prototype model into a full fledged working
environment, which is the final product or software.
Testing
The testing phase is one of the final stages of the development process and this is the phase where the
final adjustments are made before presenting the completely developed software to the end user.
In general, the testers encounter the problem of removing the logical errors and bugs. The test
conditions which are decided in the analysis phase are applied to the

Comparison Of Bambi And The Lion King
The camera migrates into the forest passing various creatures with big, bulging, brown eyes. The
fluffy irresistible fur of the rabbits begs to be stroked. The rabbits skip away laughing leaving the
grass blowing in the cool breeze. Then, the camera travels to the right where an owl plays tag with a
speedy mouse under the blue sky. Finally, the technology races towards the sky revealing heart shaped
clouds. Peaceful scenes such as the one just described constantly appear in Disney films since Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, when depicting nature, should unrealistic imagines occupy the
screen? Consider a political film such as Bambi, when making such an enormous statement regarding
hunting, should the film illustrate nature accurately? How about more recent movies such as The Lion
King? Parents take their prized possessions, their children, to see these shows. Children absorb their
information and experiences around them like a sponge. In addition, Disney and other films to this day
are instrumental in a minor s childhood. Considering the impact of the films, one would predict that
two popular Disney films, Bambi and The Lion King, would portray nature factually. Nonetheless,
The Lion King and Bambi both depict nature accurately.
Anthropomorphism. The attribution of human characteristics or behavior to an animal.
Anthropomorphism is used in both of the films being compared. Specifically, in Bambi, the artists
drew the animals with certain characteristics. As a

Carl Sandburg Effects
The Effects of Carl Sandburg s Poetry In the world there is hatred, crime, violence, racism, and other
bad things that makes up society. The people don t know how bad the reality it is until there is
somebody to go and show it to them. It often leads to depression, suicide and other horrible things that
we can t imagine. For one poet like Carl Sandburg to describe the bad side of the American life in his
poems makes us realize what we do to be human. In modern times we have problems that we have to
deal with every day. Carl Sandburg points out in his poems what the problems we face in our lives and
how we go through it. The readers should know when they read his poems and have those problems.
According to Hartland Thunberg, Penelope, Both men were optimists, but with a profound
understanding of the violent and dark side of American life. Taft, too, was a man of modesty, of
simplicity and of genuine interest in individual human beings. People have two types of characters
like the good and the bad. We have the bad one that goes and does the bad things we do to criticize
them and then the good one who that still makes them human. The problems we go through we can
relate in the stories that are in Sandburg poems. Sandburg gives the reader a visual on what the story
says, to give it a grasp. Carl Sandburg describes natural style in his poem that makes it for everyone
that can relate. People struggle in society by depression, war , and having racial issues that

How Did Nikola Tesla And Thomas Edison Revolutionized The...
Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were two of the inventing world s greatest minds in the 19th century.
Their war over energy unleashed a new era upon the world, and changed the course of the 19th
century. Tesla rivaled Edison with his new, but dangerous alternating current battle, but Edison s
refusal of change made the challenge difficult for Tesla. However, the two started their relationship as
partners. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla both revolutionized the world. In 1884, Nikola Tesla
arrived in the United States from Europe with nothing but his clothes, a letter to Thomas Edison, and a
genius idea. Tesla approached Edison, and the latter hired him. The two worked to improve Edison s
direct current system of electricity. However, the two later split due to the two s clashing personalities;

His hotheadedness forced him to try and dissuade the public of Tesla s idea. Due to that, and his
popularity, Edison was able to commit a multitude of demonstrations to reveal the dangers of Tesla s
alternating current system. One of his more cruel methods was to electrocute animals in public using
alternating current. Nikola Tesla invested and created a hydraulic dam on Niagara Falls using
alternating current. This marked the beginning of the reign of alternating current.
Tesla won the war over energy because Edison s direct current died out and became obsolete.
However, Edison remained a powerhouse, creating a multitude of patents; meanwhile, Tesla started
many projects, but many failed, and he was forced to file for bankruptcy. Also, Nikola Tesla suffered
from a mental breakdown during his career and had to temporarily stop working. When Tesla returned,
he was never the same. His ideas became more and more crazy and impractical. Meanwhile, Edison
remained active, working for the government, but at a slower pace than in his youth. Edison dies in

Visualization on how Self Handicapping Can Lead to Procrastination and Low Self Esteem
Self esteem is the central component of every individual s daily life experiences. Self esteem can be
defined as a person s evaluation of the self, e.g. I am not satisfied with me or I like me. We perform
self evaluations on ourselves everyday; it is a non conscious process where as only the individual
knows the end result. Important domains affect us, and unimportant domains do not (things tailored
specifically to the individual). When an individual experiences an emotional gut feeling , the
individual feels either good or bad about themselves. As human beings, we have a fundamental need
for motives of self inclusion (Franzoi 59). Self esteem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Procrastination is a form of self handicapping that can be applied to almost any aspect in one s life.
The most common thread of procrastination is fear; fear of failure, fear of unpleasant or painful
experiences, and the fear of missing out. When you fear failure you are prone to avoid involve
yourself to begin with. Out of the fear of failing and looking bad, they would often spend vast
amounts of time on a project without making any real progress because at a subconscious level they
don t want to finish a finished project will make them vulnerable for criticism and consequently
failure (Klassen et al. 918) If an procrastinator believes that a task is going to be an undesirable
experience then they will feel constrained not to do it. All these fears can lead a person to self
handicap. A lot of times, a person who might both self handicap and procrastinate, will use drugs
and/alcohol to utilize their actions; an example is drinking the night before an exam. This individual,
who chooses to go out before the exam, is giving themselves an excuse to why they will not do well
on this exam. This is an easy way for this person to maintain their self esteem level. Baumeister
allows me to introduce this concept (409)
Procrastination predicts higher levels of consumption of alcohol among those people who drink.
Procrastinators drink more than they intend to a manifestation of generalized

What Is Voltaire s Idea Of The Round Table
The Painting Round table by Adolph Menzel is a painting that shows, people like Voltaire gathered
around in the round table in the palace of the Prussian King Frederick II. The era of this painting was
during the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a time where western thought and culture was a big
deal, this thought came around in the 1700s. Science, philosophy, society and politics where all
subjects on what thinkers thought in depth about during this time. These ideas took away the medieval
thinking and brought a new modern thinking in place of the medieval thinking. (
What began the Enlightenment was the scientific revolution, The rise of the new science progressively
undermines not only the ancient geocentric conception of the cosmos, but, with it, the entire set of
presuppositions that had served to constrain and guide philosophical inquiry. (Bristow, 1). The new
thoughts that came with the scientific revolution were a big success. The Enlightenment also had to do
with some French people called The Philosophes who included, Voltaire, Diderot, D Alembert,

Roman Pantheon Research Paper
The Roman Pantheon is an architectural wonder built by the Roman s over 18 centuries ago that has
had enormous impact on architectural design and techniques still today. Built under the reign of
Emperor Hadrian 118 128A.D during the High Empire Period the Pantheon we know today was built
in the same location as two prior pantheon s that both fell to fire (Kleiner 210). Although the exact
artist(s) of that of the Pantheon are not particularly known credit goes to Emperor Hadrian whom
dedicated the newly rebuilt Pantheon to Marcus Agrippa, the person whom created the very first
pantheon that stood in the same spot(Moore). The word pantheon itself is of Greek orientation and

It amazes me how the Roman s created such a beautiful building in there time period without all of the
technological advances that we have today. In my research I came upon an article that said some
historians believe that the Pantheon represented a specific type of sundial called a hemicyclium , not
in a technical aspect to be used as a instrument to tell time but in order to symbolize that of the sundial
(Hannah, Giulio). The meanings and feelings portrayed within the building and the engineering task
they had to overcome simply amazes me. I can only imagine the beauty in which it has been described
back when it was first built and how proud the Roman s must have been to call such a miraculous
construction there own. Not only is the building itself beautiful but how almost every aspect within it
has meaning makes the name its given well deserved. I wish that today we still put the same time,
effort and meaning into the architecture that is created in the present instead of just building what ever
is the cheapest and fastest. To me the Pantheon shows significance, you don t have to research it in
order to see the hard work that was put into it or the feelings it can convey by just looking at a picture.
In fact that is why I choose it, not even knowing all of the spectacular things I ve come to find out but
by simply looking at a Photograph. One day I hope to actually see

  • 2. The Great Historians Missionary That I Just Wanted For... As I started my research I found so many great historians missionary that I just wanted to share their missions. February 1, 1823, Betsey Stockton, a young black woman in company with 13 white missionaries, was on board a ship rounding the southern tip of South America. The missionaries were on their way to the Sandwich Islands (present day Hawaii). They had left New Haven, Connecticut in November, sent out by the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions, an agency at the forefront of American Protestantism s burgeoning interest in foreign missions. Betsey Stockton was in the second group of missionaries to go to Hawaii, the first having arrived two years before. Besides Stockton, there were six couples and a single man, plus three Hawaiian men and a Tahitian. The trip took five months by sea with no stopovers. Like others on board, Stockton kept a journal of the voyage and of her first couple of months in Hawaii. She had joined the company partly as a missionary and partly as a servant to one of the couples, Rev. and Mrs. Charles S. Stewart, who were expecting a child. However, Betsey s contract with the American Board did make clear that she was not to be simply a servant but was also to share in the mission s primary work. February 2, 1911, during a morning devotional hour at Central Texas College in Waco, a teacher, Eliza George, has a vision of black Africans passing before the judgment seat of Christ. Weeping and moaning, many of them were saying, No ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ramifications For Adopted Children Although adopted children may be fortunate in being adopted by loving and caring families, this is not always the case. There are some cases where adopted children are brought to the poor care of adopting families. There are a number of ramifications for both the adopted child and the family. A few ramifications for the adopted child are developing self esteem issues, identity issues, grief, and guilt. Children with low self esteem may feel like they are not worth being in the family. Compared to the biological children of the parents, the adopted child may feel like the parents may not love them as much as they do with their biological children. Also, they may feel like they may not be treated equally. Identity crisis may be one of the major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Career in Social Work A Career in Social Work I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI code, this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I also feel that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel my communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and families. Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework hours in areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum requirement to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licenses which both require a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State University campuses in the southern California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In particular, the University of Southern California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full time social workers must also be prepared to work 40 hours per week, occasionally working evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with clients, or handle emergencies. In addition to fulfilling all these preparation requirements, successful social workers must be deeply compassionate, a good listener, and an effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Valuation Risk And Return Valuation, Risk, and Return Five years ago, Laissez Faire Recliners issued $10,000,000 of corporate bonds with a 30 year maturity. The bonds have a coupon rate of 10.125%, pay interest semiannually, and have a par value of $1,000 per bond. The bonds are currently trading at a price of $879.625 per bond. A 25 year Treasury bond with a 6.825% coupon rate (paid semi annual) and $1,000 par is currently selling for $975.42. In order to find the yield spread between the corporate bonds and the Treasury bonds we must first find the yields of both bonds. The yield is the amount of return an investor can expect to receive from a bond. The yield for the corporate bond (found using the yield formula in excel) is 11.57%. The yield for the Treasury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition we believe the firm is in a constant state of growth, and our required rate of return for investments at the risk level of 18%. The firm s common stock is currently trading for $45 per share. If we are looking at whether or not we would purchase these shares or not we must first calculate the return on equity, which is done by net income (1,417,500) by the stockholders equity (6,000,000), which gives us a return of equity of 15.5%. This is only accurate when calculating the present value of cash flows method. Another method is the free cash flow method, which we calculate by looking at the year, growth status, growth rate, FCF calculation, FCF and WACC. The growth status is given as constant and the growth rate is given at 15.5%. This makes the FCF calculation of 1.15. The first year FCF is also given as $109,237. In order to calculate the following years FCF we take the first years FCF ($109,237) and multiply it by (1+WACC) the weighted average cost of capital is also given at the appropriate discount rate of 15.83%. Using the before mentioned formula we find that the FCF of year two is $126529.22. If Laissez Faire s common stock were to have a more fluctuated growth pater (25% in years 1 through 6, 20% in years 7 through 10, and 15% for years 11 and beyond), the purchase decision would change. This growth is exponentially more profitable to the purchaser and guarantees a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Portland s Water System Essay I have learned about the Portland s water system in the first of a few weeks. I have learned the Portland s water resources, water quality management, history of water system, water transportation system, and water issues in Portland area. Now, I compare Portland s water system to another city in the United States. I pick up Seattle s water system because I lived in Seattle for two years before I move to Portland, and I m interested in the Seattle s water system. In this journal, I write about the following sections: History of Seattle s water system, water resources, water quality management, water transportation, water issues in Seattle, and conclusion (similarities and differences between Seattle s water system and Portland s water system). History: In the 19th century, Seattle s water came from springs, wells, and private water companies. However, the population of Seattle increased in the late 19th century, and the demand for water supply also increased. In June 6, 1889, there was a large fire what is called Great Seattle Fire in downtown Seattle. After this event, government decided to establish municipal water system. After this plan was approved, the government constructed the Cedar River water system. On January 10th, 1901, water from the Cedar River flowed into Seattle s water system for the first time. A pipeline channeled water to the Lincoln reservoirs and the Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. When the water system constructed, the water system capacity was 23.5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Neural Mechanisms in Controlling Eating Behaviour Outline and evaluate the role of neural mechanisms in controlling eating behaviour (24 marks) Today there is enormous interest in the psychological factors that can affects a person s eating habits, but some of the clearest research findings have come from research into the brain (neural) mechanisms controlling eating behaviour. One important mechanism to consider is the role of homeostasis in all mammals. Homeostasis is how the body maintains a constant internal environment. Our diet is essential to homeostasis as it provides the nutrients that allow physiological processes to be regulated within narrow limits. The body has evolved two separate systems one for turning eating on and one for turning eating off . Glucose levels are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The protein leptin is produced in response to satiation which is secreted into the bloodstream from fat tissue, leading to fat loss and decreased appetite. To support the role of this protein, Zhang et.al injected two copies of the gene for obesity into some mice and these ob/ob mice had a tendency to overeat. They discovered that the ob/ob mice had a defective gene for the protein leptin and were unable to experience a decrease in appetite as well as fat loss. However, injecting these mice with leptin caused them to lose weight dramatically. This shows how proteins also have a role in controlling our eating behaviour and not only neural mechanisms. Moreover, thinking about a food makes us feel hungry but also food related smells and sights. The neural control of these cognitive factors in hunger probably originates in the main brain area the amygdala and the inferior prefrontal cortex. The amygdala plays a role in selecting foods based on previous experience. To support this, Rolls and Rolls found that surgically removing the amygdala in rats would cause the animals to consume both familiar and novel foods indiscriminately, whereas amygdala intact rats would initially avoid novel foods and consume only the more palatable familiar foods instead. This suggests how our previous experience in eating certain foods alters what we eat due to the role of the amygdala processing such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Parent Monitoring Do your parent s monitor or control what do you on your phone? If so, I disagree with this I think children should have full access to their phones without their parents monitoring it. Parents should not be allowed to control or monitor their kid s social media. To begin, there is a fine line where parents can control and watch over their children on social media. Watching over a kid and controlling them will make them want to do the stuff that you aren t letting them do, for example, if you watch over your kid s phone they will find a way to be able to bypass it or won t use their phone. The article says, There s considerable evidence that intruding on kids privacy damages the parent child relationship, says Petronio. When parents snoop, they show mistrust, she says. That overarching need for control really damages the relationship. (Parents Shouldn t Spy on Their Kids). This book is written like a narrative in which the author is the narrator. The collection of chapters do not all go along with one another and can be read separately without any particular order. This book starts off with the story about how Pooh was previously known as Edward Bear until he wanted a new name in which Christopher Robin, his owner, came up with the name Winnie The Pooh. The name Pooh came from a swam Christopher Robin had once before. After Pooh s introduction the book goes on to talk about all the adventures Pooh went on throughout his life. All throughout the book Pooh is never embarking on journeys alone. He is always accompanied by a companion, whether it was Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyore, or the Rabbit. One of the most prominent relationships was between Pooh and Christopher Robin. At the end of some of the chapters, Christopher Robin is telling the narrator he was going to take a bath. He never manages to leave Pooh behind as he picks him up by the leg, and walked up the stairs trailing Pooh behind him going bump, bump, bump up the stairs (pg. 21 161). Pooh wasn t just any old bear to Christopher Robin. Christopher adored Pooh and treated him as if he was real. He wanted the narrator to re tell these stories for Pooh and tell him about their different adventures. Not only was this evident throughout the story, but also through the illustrations. Each illustration has a scene with Pooh and at least one other character showing their closeness. Children can relate to that one stuffed animal that they took everywhere with them. This is almost like one of the first friendships a child has. Although it is with a stuffed animal, the reader is able to get the sense of how much Pooh means to Christopher. • 10. I Will Revisit Russon s Definition Of Memory, And Three... In this paper I will revisit Russon s definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon description of memory demonstrating that Russon s description is indeed relatable to the actual human experience. Russon s definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, What we experience as the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do, (Russon 41). To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world s objects. The contact made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain aspects that needs to be involve. First is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Imorality Of War In Mythology, By Edith Hamilton, And... Members of the human race can be very petty, able to create huge issues from small things. The Trojan war is an example of such.Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as bruta, petty, and wicked. The war begun over a dense reason, the kidnapping of a beautiful woman, Helen. The Greek leader, Menelaus wanted her back for himself, so he and his brother, along with a fleet of a thousand ships, went to demand her return. Thus, a bloody war started, leading to the deaths of many great soldiers, and the sacrifices of young children. Through the book Mythology, by Edith Hamilton, and the Iliad, written by the greek poet Homer, war is displayed as brutal and wicked. The story of the Trojan War myth criticizes the horrors and immorality of war. The Trojan War was a story criticizing war, showing how humans can become savages during a time of war. On page 207, it was stated that the ongoing conflict was not fighting, it was butchery. Furthermore, on the same page, Edith Hamilton exemplifies the battle, The Greeks ... were borne down by desperate men who wanted only to kill before they were killed. (Hamilton, 207) This savagery evolved from the killing between the Greeks and the Trojans to the sacrifice of children. For example, Hector s son. The less difficult routes starting point elevation is 522 feet and ending point is 386 feet. The distance was again 10 miles, this means the gradient is 13.6 feet per mile. Gradient is found by taking the lower elevation and subtract that from the upper elevation, then divide the difference by the distance. The route traveling to the town of Jim Thorpe has larger gradient which means the water in this path will flow faster. The faster the water flows the more difficult the path is. In this tale, two cousins are faced with the temptations of courtly love as well as lust, and have to choose between their relationship, or a fake relationship with a beautiful woman. For a better understanding, courtly love is a knight flirting with a nobleman s wife or vice versa. But in this story, it is two men flirting with the same person. This obviously destroys the relationship between the two flirtatious competitors, which is what happens to Palamon and Arcite in this story. They are prisoners of war, and locked in a tower for eternity. When they see a beautiful woman, Emily, they both fall in love, escape, and fight each other for her hand. The story starts with two cousins, Palamon and Arcite, locked in a tower in Athens after surviving a battle. During their time in confinement, they see a woman in a garden. They immediately fall in love and fight for her. When Palamon escapes, he, in disguise, works as a servant for Emilie s father. Shortly after, Arcite escapes, and flees to a grove. It is the same grove as Palamon happens to be in. when they discover each other, they are ready to fight to the death until Theseus, the Man who originally captured them, finds them and decides to let them fight in a publicised arena, for Emilie s hand. Palestinians claim that these were their homes and they have a right to return to them Israelis, on the other hand, generally, find the idea of such an exponential return of Palestinians to the heart of Israel frightening since it may override the ratio of balance of Palestinians to Israelis as well as importing possible terrorism (e.g. Quandt, 2005) The refuge problem first initiated with the 1948 War Which Israelis dub the War of Independence and Palestinians call the Nakba when some 700,000 Arab residents (85%) left their home, some voluntarily, others forced, finding refuge in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Gaza Strip, which was then administered by Egypt. Others were left homeless in Israel. (Brynen, 2007) whilst the Six Day War caused a further flight of 280,000 to 325,000 Palestinians from Israeli won territory. The Oslo Accords in 1993, negotiated by the EU, Israel, and the US, recognized a Palestinian state under the Fatah party (led by Yasser Arafat) and established that the Palestinian refugees would be controlled by this rule. The many ways in which the systems of the human body cope with stress can influence long term health and developmental outcomes that may even cross over into subsequent generations.
