Essay on Causes of the 1918 Influenza Pandemic
It killed more people in twenty four weeks than AIDS has killed in twenty four years, more in a year
than the Black Death killed in a century. John Barry
Many historians call the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 the deadliest disease outbreak of all time.
As many as 100 million people were killed as a direct result of this disease (Taubenberger 1). The
Great Pandemic affected everyone, the prosperous and the poor, developed and underdeveloped
nations. Entire villages in Alaska were wiped out because of the viral disease (Public Health Service).
The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 was caused by World War One, a high volume of immigration, and
poor sanitary conditions.
First reports of the virus came in from a small county in Kansas. In ... Show more content on

Medical care was as scarce as clean water. Basic medical care was rudimentary. Describing the
situations as incredibly unhygienic would be an understatement. War fatalities were the immediate
effects of the Great War and the incredible spread of a disease was a later one. As a matter of fact,
more people died from the Great Influenza Pandemic than from World War One (Tauenberger1). After
World War One, Europe and Asia were in chaos. Many European people were without a home, a job
and way of life. Desperate, hundreds of thousands immigrated to more stable and industrialized
nations such as the United States of America. From 1915 to 1919, an average of over two hundred
thirty four thousand immigrants per year came to the United States of America (Cohn 2). A large
number of these immigrants came from Europe and were processed at Ellis Island in New York City.
Forty percent of all Americans can trace their heritage to Ellis Island (United States Department of the
Interior). Ellis Island was so overcrowded with people, the government hurriedly built dormitories,
kitchens, and hospitals (United States Department of the Interior). When these people came, they
arrived in over crowded boats from unclean places. Due to widespread disease in the boats, there were
many burials at sea. One of these burials quite ironically, was my great uncle who was four years old.
Upon arrival, from Italy, my great aunt was buried. When the immigrants arrived, government

Pros And Cons Of Deductions
Last but not the least, although §179 immediate expensing and bonus depreciation appear to be
beneficial to Patriot, those favorable tax treatments can change in future years depending on the
Congress. Chances are high that §179 deduction will be limited to a smaller amount and bonus
depreciation will be excluded for future years. Therefore it is rather crucial for Patriot to change
existing accounting method to maximize deductions and to avoid any risks of potentially getting
examined by the IRS. To begin with, Patriot should develop a formal written accounting manual
covering the treatment for acquiring tangible properties before January 1, 2015 so Patriot can utilize
the safe harbor rule for 2015 if needed. Second of all, the company should

Shadow Walker Training Narrative
Your Shadow Walker training has progressed very well, John. As Miss Colette told you the day you
left the inn, I have seen great potential in you. I believe that with this training, you will be able to help
protect this village from the evils that have recently approached it. Our enemies have encircled us
from all sides. Take your skills and knowledge and wipe them all out. Daedalus told his apprentice one
day. Thank you for your training sir. I will take the skill I learned Piercing Strike and defeat all of the
rat like creatures that plagued our village. Good! I like your train of thought. Here, take this pack of
small healing potions. They will help you during battle. John reached out and grabbed the small bag.
Inside were five small bottles of blood red liquid. This liquid must be the healing potions. Hopefully it
doesn t taste like blood.... Once he saw John store the pouch in a safe place, Daedalus told the ... Show

There were five Tier One items. There was a rusted steel sword, an old dagger, a Glenfort shirt, a pair
of Glenfort handwraps, and a pair of Glenfort pants. Both the rusted steel sword and the old dagger
came with their respective sheaths. The Glenfort shirt was basically a patched, long sleeved gray shirt
coupled with a thin, leather chest armor. The Glenfort handwraps were basically thin strips of unused
leather sewn together. The Glenfort pants was blue in color and provided somewhat better protection
than his tattered pants. The rusted steel sword, though chipped, was sharp enough to cut through flesh
and hide...same thing with the old dagger. John grimaced at the quality of his weapons...five gold
coins...ten years of part time work...all gone and all he got was such shitty equipment. Nevertheless,
shitty or not, they still provided some protection and attack power much better than what he had
before. With a sigh, John quickly put the new equipment on and walked out of the

Compare And Contrast A Noiseless Patient Spider
A Noiseless Patient Spider , by Walt Whitman, and The Snow Man , by Wallace Stevens are two
poems that contrast well with each other, while still sharing some similarities. The two poems take
place in nature, and are about the observations of the surrounding area, with Whitman s poem being
more focused on a creature, a spider to be specific. Steven s poem focused more on the area itself.
They are both rather philosophical in nature, with Whitman s talking about soul and Steven s seems to
be about a lack of soul. The two poems contrast in the tone with Whitman s being more optimistic and
lighter, and Steven s being darker in contrast. The comparison will be of the two poem s tone, and
motivation.
The tone of the two poems are rather stark in their differences. Whitman s poem, is more optimistic,
and this can be seen here, Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect
them (8 9). This excerpt is about the spider and the soul; it is describing the nature of both. The words
themselves have lighter, happier connotations to them, as musing is used to describe the act of
thinking, and that is a positive thing. The excerpt goes on to describe the soul and spider (which are
one in the same in the poem) as something seeking adventure, or at least willing to go searching for
something, another attribute that is positive. In general, the poem is observing the spider and what it is
doing, with some commentary on the nature of the soul. This is somewhat

Immanuel Kant Research Paper
Immanuel Kant was born April 22, 1724 in Konigsberg.Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher best
known for his work The Critique of Pure Reason, was one of the first to describe this era with the
word Enlightenment. (Ellis 183 184). He attended the collegium Fridericianum at the age of eight,
Latin school that taught primarily classicism. (Immanuel Kant Biography). Immanuel Kant went to the
University of Konigsberg, or also know as Albertina. Kant was born into an artisan family. His father
was a harness marker and a pietist. Pietism is the stress on the emotional and personal aspects of
religion. His mother s father was also a master harness maker, and she was better educated that the
other women.
When Immanuel Kant was finished with college he became a private tutor for children outside
Konigsberg. He was a private tutor for six years, then later became a teacher at Albertina. He would
stay at Albertina for four decades and teach philosophy. He retired from teach in 1796, which ... Show

The effects of his metaphysics, epistemology ,ethics and aesthetics was important to the philosophical
movement that followed him.( Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. ). A large part of Immanuel Kant

our knowledge is constrained to mathematics and the science of the natural, empirical word. There
were two major methods in the early modern time of philosophy that had a major impact on Immanuel
Kant. The first one was Empiricism. Empiricism is the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense
experience. The second method was Rationalism. Rationalism is a theory that opinions and actions
should be based on reason and knowledge rather than religious belief or emotional response. Kant
believed that both of the theories of the philosophers arguments had some flaws to them. ( Internet

want to be like her because she is very smart, and has a lot of ambition for work. I know I won t ever

I won t let my children harm themselves and blow it off like it s nothing. I won t take my children s

School started for my seventh grade year and after my step sisters being at my house for a couple
months they were trying to get out. I wasn t the only one that had depression, at least two out of my
three step sisters became depressed due to how we were treated. Not even one month into my seventh
grade year I had quite a few friends, but only one that 1 that knew a lot about me. At the time she was
really helpful and always there for me. She knew by the second or third month maybe of being in
school that I had cut myself everyday when I went home from school. She never liked that I cut
myself but she knew she couldn t really do anything to stop me from doing it. She knew I cut over 100
times every time I would cut, she tried so hard to try to get me to stop. I just couldn t though, some
people do it for attention but I didn t, only three or so people even knew I did it. I used to do it to
relieve the sadness, pain, sorrow, and stress that I constantly felt. By the middle of the seventh grade
we had stopped being friends for about a month. When we became friends again we got even closer
than we were before. Both of us were having problems with our families and had cut because of them,
and because of us not being friends. My legs and stomach looked like a warzone, my cuts were a lot
worse than hers. We both had a bunch of cuts, clearly neither of us could remember exactly. But I had

Analysis Of The Film Princess Mononoke
I selected the film Princess Mononoke from director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. The animated
film consists of the genres action, adventure, fantasy, drama, and historical. Mamoru Fujisawa, also
known professionally as Joe Hisaishi, is the sole composer of the film Princess Mononoke. The music
pinpointed the battles that would take place in the film and even introductions of some integral
characters that would have an affect on the story. The music even highlighted and enhanced the climax
of the film.
The story begins when a prince named Ashitaka had gotten cursed with pain and death on his right
forearm by a demon boar he was trying to fight with and was sent away from the village, losing his
status as a prince by cutting off his hair. On his journey, he finds two injured men and sees an injured
wolf as well as a girl who drinks the poisoned blood from the wolf s wound. He makes sure the men
are fine and goes to another town called IronTown. In IronTown, the men greet him and the women
demonstrate their job to Ashitaka and Lady Eboshi examines the cursed wound that he harbors on his
right arm which she casted on the Boar God. Unplanned, the same girl who drank the poisoned blood
attacks the village. Her name is Princess Mononoke and her other name is San. San starts a brawl with
weapons with Lady Eboshi and Ashitaka stuns both of them with his hands. Kiyo, one of Lady Eboshi
s workers, shoots Ashitaka with a gun since he hurt Lady Eboshi. Despite his circumstances, he

The Role Of Professional Networking And How It Can Assist...
Career Development: Networking Networking is an important part of career development and has
been around for a many years. However, how individuals network has changed dramatically over the
last few years with the inventions of social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. This paper will
discuss the role of professional networking and how it can assist with career development.
Networking
Professional networking is about making and maintaining relationships with individuals who could
benefit one s career. By talking with individuals, getting to know more about them and their
professional position, learning about their jobs and career experiences, and maintaining the
relationships are all part of networking (PSU, 2015). There are multiple ways to network; individual
face to face communication, through social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, or through
professional organizations. One type of networking is used to gain information and knowledge about a
particular career or job. For a student or someone who is changing career paths, just getting to know
an individual in a position that is being sought is networking. Being able to garner information about
that person s experiences may be sufficient for the individual to know if that is a career path they want
to follow, or conversely, the information gained may be sufficient enough for the individual to know
that it is a path they are no longer interested in (PSU, 2015). Networking most generally

Tell Tale Heart Supernatural
Edgar Allan Poe has written some bizarre stories about supernatural events. The story ¨The Tell Tale
Heart¨ was written in 1843 about a young man killing an innocent old man. This bizarre young man is
in fact a crazy person. The young man was very obsessed with the old man in this story for a particular
reason the old man s eye. The old man s eye had a pale blue film over it and it was called a vulture
eye. Every night at midnight he opened the door to the old man s bedroom and just watched him. One
time, the old man heard his bedroom door open, so he stayed up for one hour and the young man
never moved a muscle for that entire time, only watched and stared. That was a true obsession. This

Into The Revolutionary War Analysis
This week s readings begin to stray away from the Seven Years War and into the Revolutionary War.
The Revolutionary War occurred because the Americans colonist wanted to be free from Great Britain
s control. King George III would go above the legislative of the colonies and force orders without
consent. So many felt that the only way to obtain freedom from Great Britain and control their own
government is they must fight for it. Patrick Henry states, The war is inevitable and let it come! I
repeat it, sir, let it come (Henry 44). There was no way to avoid going to war, rather it was the only
solution that would lead to the colonies freedom. In this war between the British and Americans,
Native Americans were involved and were heavily

The First Few Years Of Young Children’S Lives Are Very
The first few years of young children s lives are very critical to their overall development because new
learning is happening every day, either during time spent with a teacher or parent. When children are
four years old, they are with a teacher full time or part time. That teacher is a professional individual
who plays an active role in children s early childhood development and has a genuine desire to help
them learn, grow and succeed in their education. These are just a few roles that early childhood
educators play in the field of early childhood education, working with young children in their early
childhood years of life.
The requirements for becoming a teacher vary from state to state. In New York State, teachers must ...

That answer got me thinking. All of her answers gave me advice about how to be a great kindergarten
teacher down the line.
Standard one, promoting child development and learning, means that a teacher of young children must
have an understanding of the characteristics and needs of young children as well as an understanding
the many influences on young children (relationships with their families, their health, their learning
styles, their opportunity to play) and use this understanding of children s development and learning to
create learning environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for all children.
Standard two, building family and community relationships means that a teacher must understand the
importance and complex characteristics of children s families and communities. Teachers can then
create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support families, and involve families in their children s
development and learning. Standard three is knowing how to observe, document, and assess in order
to support young children and families. Teachers must understand the goals, benefits, and uses of
assessment. They must also know how to use systematic observations, documentation, and other
assessment strategies in a responsible way, for the purpose of positively influencing children s
development. Standard four is knowing

How Does Jack London Create Similarities Between The Call...
Many readers of the fiction genre come across Jack London s works. London began writing in the year
of 1893 after his mother encouraged him to write his story and submit it into a writing contest. If you
have ever came across one of London s novels you have probably noticed the similarities of setting,
theme, and the protagonist. London s novels The Call of the Wind and White Fang share several of
those similarities. London uses similarities throughout the settings in The Call of the Wind and White
Fang. Both novels take place in the freezing Yukon territory. And that Charles s sister s tale bearing
tongue should be relevant to the building of a Yukon fire, was apparent only to Mercedes, who
disburdened herself of copious opinions upon that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
London s protagonists are dogs in both of his novels. The snow walls pressed him on every side, and a
great surge of fear swept through him the fear of the wild thing for the trap. It was a token that he was
harking back through his own life to the lives of his forebears; for he was a civilised dog, an unduly
civilised dog, and of his own experience knew no trap and so could not of himself fear it. The muscles
of his whole body contracted spasmodically and instinctively (London 30). In The Call of the Wind,
London shows Buck s animal fear and his more advanced level of fear. So White Fang knew nothing
of the kindness a man s hand might offer. Besides, he did not like the hands of the man animals. He
did not trust them. It was true they sometimes gave meat, but more often they gave hurt. Hands were
things to keep away from. (London 86). In White Fang, White Fang started out as just a puppy in the
wild. He does normal puppy things like exploring and getting himself into trouble with the humans.
The humans would not only give him food, but beat and throw rocks at him giving him no reason to
trust the human hand. In The Call of the Wind and White Fang, London uses the similarities of the
protagonists throughout the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Demonetization

INTRODUCTION
Demonetization is the act of stripping a currency unit of its status as legal tender. It occurs whenever
there is a change of national currency: The current form or forms of money is pulled from circulation
and retired, often to be replaced with new notes or coins. Demonetization refers to an economic policy
where a certain currency unit ceases to be recognized or used as a form of legal tender. In other words,
a currency unit still loses its legal tender status as a new one comes into circulation. OBJECTIVES To

It is well known fact that near about 86 percent currency circulation in India was composed of 500 and

Effective Airline Security Measures Are Overdue Essay
Effective Airline Security Measures Are Overdue As far back as 1955, terrorist threats against the
airline industry have jeopardized the safety and security of airline passengers. This paper
chronologically describes some of the events that caused preventive measures to be proposed and in
fewer cases implemented. The fact that there is a terrorist threat against our nation s airline industry
has not changed, but the methods that these radicals employ to bring harm to travelers has grown
much more sophisticated. The techniques in use by the government and the airline industry to prevent
a catastrophic event have not kept pace. As the events of September 11th unfolded, it became obvious
that the havoc a well planned terrorist attack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terrorist threats and hijackings, many involving live explosives, plagued civil aviation again in the
early 1970s. It took another disaster and more than a decade for the U.S. government to again take a
serious look at airline security.
This push was provided by the June 1985 plunge into the sea of an Air India flight near Ireland as the
result of a powerful explosion in its cargo hold and a hijacking the next month of TWA Flight 847
from Athens. (Federal Aviation Administration, 2001) The FAA ordered U.S. air carriers to tighten
security at major airports in other countries. And U.S. air carriers overseas were under FAA orders to
match every piece of luggage with every passenger to defeat the possibility that a terrorist might check
a suitcase containing a bomb, then not take the flight. Since that date, more than 24 fatal explosions
have been recorded on aircraft around the world. Despite this evidence, the U.S. has made little real
progress toward countering such threats to our airlines and their passengers. Today, only a small
percentage of passenger baggage on domestic flights is screened for explosives. (Federal Aviation
Administration) U.S. officials historically have responded to aviation disasters by proposing flurries of
security measures, only to roll back many of them when airlines objected and the public s focus on the

Basis Of International Trade Essay
International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic relations.
It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the boundaries of the
individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal economy with the
world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the productive forces and
international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995)
The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between the
domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists of
individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These theories
were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state has its own
foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and measures undertaken
by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments. (Markusen, 1995)
The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two
basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist
approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism, whose
supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004)
Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the

Memi And Sabu Comparison
Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back
before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi and
Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use
hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people
from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities,
perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles of
design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these
civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them.

Memi and Sabu clearly have an intimate relationship and unlike Gudea, great detail has gone into
shaping the contours and details of their bodies. One can see the feminine slope of Sabu s torso
making her much more delicate and small in comparison to her partner. We can see the muscular detail
of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much lighter
compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall. There is
also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look almost as if they
could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels more cemented. He is
formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of weight and importance. His
texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Gudea s pose is much more thoughtful, his hands
clasped, his shoulders squared and together these elements echo the inscriptions of his great work as a

that would be the most compelling, character strikingly fits the concept. There are two characters,
Emily of A Rose for Emily, and the narrator of Araby . Each character manifests their love for another

Miss Emily wanted Homer Barron all for herself. It was often seen that Barron lacked affection
towards her, because of his interest in men. He was considered a non marrying man, but this wasn t
enough for Miss Emily. The textual clues indicates, Miss Emily had been to the jeweler s and ordered
a man s toilet seat in silver, with the letters H.B. on each piece, men s clothing, even a nightshirt. The
contextual clues reveal that maybe Miss Emily used the arsenic on Homer Barron. To hide herself
from the authorities, she would, for six months not appear on the streets, she had grown fat and her
hair was turning gray, that was the last we saw of Homer Barron (162). Essentially, this is foretelling
sign something is up. Finally, we see the textual proof of this matter. Miss Emily had passed away, and
residents took it upon themselves to search the home. It was forty years since they had seen this
particular room. the man s toilet things backed with tarnished silver, among them lay a collar and tie. .
.the man himself lay in the bed, what was left of him rotted beneath what was left of his nightshirt
(164). Homer Barron was not seen for years, the keyword nightshirt, the man s toilet things, pinpoint
that Homer Barron was the man lying in the bed, not to mention that Miss Emily ended up with what
she wanted, a man to hold until death. The Araby character s nature was always at an awkward stage.

Paper On Predestination
1. Predestination has always been, for me, a tricky topic/doctrine. I find it very difficult to reconcile
God s choosing the elect with the implications for those who are non elect. It seems very
contradictory, and contrary to His nature, that an all loving God, who loves unregenerate persons as
much (?) as regenerate persons, would essentially choose, whether actively or passively, individuals to
spend eternity in hell. Admittedly, my own theological grasp of hell is somewhat lacking, as I don t
really understand how allowing people to live in torment for all of eternity can be a loving action on
God s part, although I know that it must somehow be loving. While I despise universalism, I can
understand why Christians might wish to twist their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I find the argument that the repentance required for salvation can be considered a work to be
interesting, but ultimately incorrect. It seems to me that repentance, defined as the abandonment of
sin, inspired by godly sorrow for our sin (Erickson 352), is still enabled, or even given to us, by the
Lord, without whose influence we would not be capable, in our total depravity, of experiencing a truly
godly sorrow over our sin. Also, I disagree with the argument that repentance moves us away from
salvation by faith alone, as repentance is part of faith. True faith cannot be separated from repentance
(352), as they are interwoven together, or two sides of the same coin (Zuck 5). For example, the self
stated purpose of the Gospel of John is so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (English Standard Version, John 20:31).
The entire book of John, which is clearly evangelistic and dedicated to bringing people to faith in
Christ (as God), does not speak of repentance at all, indicating its position as an aspect of conversion

Why Is Dedication Important
Being a senior in high school, I am just discovering the secret to being a successful athlete; one cannot
just show up to practice and expect a desired outcome. Dedication is the willingness and drive to go
beyond one s boundaries for one s desires. Playing for a softball team that has 19 state championships
and 27 consecutive regional titles, I have always been taught that dedication was the key. A lot of time
has been put into practices to prepare for all the great titles the team and I have won. Practice, effort,
and teamwork are the main reasons on why dedication is the real secret to success. Showing up to a
sporting event that you participate in, just to be present will not make someone a successful athlete. As
a young athlete my parents always forced me to attend practice, or at least I felt that way. Looking
back it was all because of the potential they saw in me as an athlete. Playing on the varsity level in the
eighth grade was a challenge, but it really opened my eyes to the fact that dedication is the secret.
Practicing day in and day out really drilled that into my head. If I wanted to be good, I had to work for
it. Others always say practice makes perfect, but really if you do ... Show more content on

As a team they have to set goals, and be on board with their teammates. Having an outcast to this
theory can jeopardize the potential success of a team in their season. I witnessed this first hand in the
2013 softball season with one of my teammates who did not love the game of softball. This resulted in
her actions almost jeopardizing our goal of an undefeated regional title. She introduced the team to
bad habits at practice and was never dedicated to accomplishing the team s goal. Fortunately for my
team, she ended up quitting right before our title could have been lost. This is a prime example of how
dedication to one s team can determine your team s

Developing Countries
Developing nations are filled with hope and aspirations of one day becoming a wealthy, dominating,
and influential country. These nations can sometimes be unsafe, difficult to live in, and hard for
workers to earn good compensation for their labor. On the other hand, living in a developed nation has
many upsides. Developed nations are wealthy, which in turn have good infrastructure, labor and
worker laws, and have less crime.
Developed nations have the superior infrastructure. These countries have more bridges that are better
maintained. They also have better highways and roads that are paved with fewer potholes. In addition,
sewers, hospitals, housing systems, and police stations are modernized with sewers having large
pumps pushing the water through to avoid floods. For instance, the city of Miami has initiated a
project aimed towards flood prevention by raising roads, installing pumps, and water mains and redo
sewer connection (Flechas, 2017). Hospitals, as well as, police stations have powerful generators that
can power all of their electrical equipment allowing them to still be effective and serve the population.
On the other hand, developing nations are very old fashioned. They are sometimes corrupt and
because they do not allow outside access from other countries they lack the knowledge and resources.
These countries are not able to create advanced hospitals with modern equipment and laboratories to
treat their patient s conditions. They also lack medical supplies

Privileged Insights Of The Mind By Derek Steen Essay
The primary case in the video, Privileged insights of the Mind is the situation of Derek Steen. Derek
feels torment in his cut away left arm which is likewise alluded to as Phantom Limb Syndrome. Steen
does not feel the torment constantly. He clarifies that after he got his surgery despite everything he had
the inclination that his arm was still joined to his body. Be that as it may, the agony came when he
contemplated his arm, the more he pondered it the more torment he encountered and the other way
around. Furthermore, Steen says when he initially began shaving subsequent to turning into an
amputee, he would encounter torment and a shivering sensation in his removed hand when the left
side (the side where his arm is cut away) of his face was being shaved. For Steen his issue lies in the
somatosensory cortex. Meaning the left half of his body (the skin) is controlled by the right half of his
mind along a vertical piece of cortex. The severed left arm of Steen s does not get any contribution
from the mind, in this manner making the cut away hand ache for another tactile information. The face
has tangible signs that exclusive initiate the region of the face that is nearest to the hand that is cut
away. For Steen s situation, the tactile signs assault the region that compares to the missing hand and
the hand locale of the mind begins getting to be actuated. Along these lines, the district of the mind

Analysis Of The Movie Memoirs Of A Geisha
Both Rob Marshall and Warwick Thornton have very distinctive and different directory movie styles.
However, In memoirs of a Geisha (Directed by Rob Marshall) and Samson Delilah (Directed by

similarly through a variety of shots and film techniques. These techniques are used in great succession
and are able to capture the audience to sympathize with these characters at their lowest points.
A scene in Samson Delilah that truly captured the essence of exploitation in modern day Australia was

This isn t fair! which I believe Warwick Thornton wanted his audiences to think. Warwick managed to
subtly instill discomfort into his viewers by putting us in a situation we can t help but feel
uncomfortable and sympathetic in which was used in great succession. We then switch back to where
the art exhibtionist is standing and watch as Delilah walks off emcombringly out of the shot as there is

transition and see two school girls sitting on a bench. One with on her phone and the other eating ice
cream. The camera than shifts focus from these two unknown school girls to Delilah who s watching
in the background. This shot stays on Delilah for 7 seconds and I believe that this is very significant.
As previously mentioned Delilah does not look like she fits in, in fact based on her

Blue-1 Reaction Lab Report
The Blue Dye #1 reaction can be determined by utilizing Beer s Law, and First and Second order
integration. Beer s law is first used to calculate the molar absorptivity of the Blue #1 dye. Beer s law
states that the concentration of the Blue #1 Dye is directly proportional to the absorbance of the
solution. The molar absorptivity, e was calculated to be 9.63x104 and will be used when calculating
the activation energy of the reaction. First, the rate order for both the Blue #1 and Bleach needed to be
determined. A known concentration of both Blue #1 dye and bleach are needed to conclude the rate
order of the solutions because the rate order is dependent on the concentration of the solution used.

was still under the jurisdiction of the Soviet Union at that time. Now, this place pertains to Ukraine,
which is an independent country in Eastern Europe. This technological disaster created many health
related problems and affected economically the Eastern European population in the following years
after the accident. On Saturday, April 26, one of the reactors at the Chernobyl nuclear plant became

Chernobyl nuclear accident had higher costs than anyone could have ever imagined before this
disaster took place. Those costs were clearly impossible for a country to support, and because of this
accident, many European countries had to suffer the economic impacts and had health issues
consequences for years. According to the article Consequences of the Chernobyl Catastrophe for
Public Health and the Environment 23 Years Later written by Yablokov in the Annals of the New York

protection from the radioactive fallout using only national resources. In the first 20 years the direct
economic damage to Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia has exceeded 500 billion dollars. To mitigate some
of the consequences, Belarus spends about 20% of its national annual budget, Ukraine up to 6%, and
Russia up to 1%. Extensive international help will be needed to protect children for at least the next 25

Impact of the Information Communication Technology on...
Introduction
Not even a single aspect of life has remained untouched or unaffected by the advent of information
communication technology. But one aspect of life that is most affected by ICT is education. ICT has
brought about various changes in the style of teaching, in working conditions, and in the ways which
are used in handling information. Teaching approaches are being highly modified by the presence of
ICT (Mikre, 2011).
We reside in a technological society under which the educational programs available for the students
are highly modernised. Lectures which are conveyed to the students in the presence of computer
assisted techniques are more effective because they stimulate the memory of the students. In the past
ten years information technology has undergone great progress, and that is why multimedia
technologies have occupied a special place in today s world. Electronic board, video spotlight and
adaptive software all come under modern technologies which are to be used for educational purposes
(Gabriela, 2006).
Computers in Education Education has become very easy in the presence of computers. Conveying
information becomes very convenient as well as interesting by means of computers. Computers have
huge memory which enables the students to save bulk of data. Students can easily process the data
with the help of computer technology with very less chances of errors. Documents can even be saved

Development of a Lab-on-a-Chip Device to Detect DNA Double...
Proposal Summary
We propose to develop a lab on a chip device for the detection of DNA double strand breaks in situ.
Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining with
antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days before
results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will greatly benefit
our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of radiation risk by
tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on individually addressable carbon
nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of multiple analytes and targets from a
biological sample. The impact of this device in our information based world is manifold. Not only will
the device make it accessible for the user to track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage
levels but also empowers the user in making more informed lifestyle choices. Introduction
With rising urbanization, the DNA in our cells is increasingly being exposed to DNA damaging agents
such as UV light, mutagenic chemicals, reactive oxygen species generated by Ionizing Radiation (IR)
or redox cycling by heavy metal ions and radio mimetic drugs etc. DNA Double strand breaks (DSBs)
occur when reactive oxygen species react with DNA bases causing lesions in the chromosomes and
the formation of foci known as Radiation induced foci (RFI). RFI are marked by the

The Mind Body Problem

Mind Body Problem
Per the theory, the mind is about mental processes, thought and consciousness. The body is about the
physical aspects of the brain neurons and how the brain is structured. The mind body problem is about
how these two interact. One of the biggest questions in psychology and philosophy concerns the
mind/body problem: If they are distinct, then how do they interact? And which of the two is in charge?
Many theories have been put forward to explain the relationship between what we call your mind, so
defined as the conscious thinking you which experiences your thoughts or spiritual being and your
brain, part of your body. However, the most common explanation concerns the question of whether the
mind and body are separate entities or the same thing. While asking and recording my responses for
this particular exercise a few came up with the choice number 4 which stated, Nonphysical things
cannot casually interact with physical things when comparing it , your mind being able to interact with
physical things in general was immediately shut down , that it was not possible, that you cannot
casually interact , between the mind and the outside world at a whim, with out some kind of training to

The Impact Of Scientific Theory On The Development Of The...
Question One: Theory Part One Research is important in our society since it contributes to the
development of the world we live in through the application of theory. Research allows us to
investigate, experiment, develop, support and explore previous facts and work of new and existing
theories. The research and the investigation of topics should be significant, relevant, and of interest to
those working and studying in the field. A systematic approach using a research method that provides
accurate, reliable, and selective critical use of data is necessary for conducting a good research. A
good research supports or challenges existing theory. In the world of theory, theory in common
language differs from scientific theory, and psychological theory. Theory in common language is use
to mean a guess, idea or speculation that someone has about something that is not tested. Scientific
theory is an explanation for a phenomenon based on previous observations that have been built on a
set of facts and principles that will allow us to predict future behaviors and events . Psychology theory
describes a behavior and make predictions about future behaviors, emotions, and thoughts of
individuals. Nevertheless, knowing the terms and the differences about theories and concepts would
allow researchers to have a better understanding on how to use and apply the terms in theory. The
researcher must have a clear picture of how to develop a study that includes the adequate information

A Research Questions On The Beauty Industry
1. INTRODUCTION
This section contains Background , Research Questions and Objectives , and Scope of the Project .
1.1 BACKGROUND
The beauty industry has been marked as the most prominent industry in Thailand for the last five
years, with skin care as the most valuable sector (Sanoachitt, 2015; Euromonitor International, 2016).
In 2015, the skin care sector expanded by 9% in term of value to reach Bt65.6 billion or £1.45 billion
(MarketLine, 2016). The main contributor to the growth was an increase in the attention of Thai
people towards their appearance and wellness. The users of skin care products are no longer limited to
senior women but are now popular among all age and gender (Pratruangkrai, 2015). The market
observers expect the sector to grow continually and value Bt76.7 billion or £1.55 billion by 2020,
despite the negative outlook of the national income (Euromonitor International, 2016;
Chinosuntrakorn, 2009).
The main driving forces of the skin care market are the opening of the ASEAN Economic Community
(AEC) and an increase of pollution and stress one encounters in daily life. The AEC is the economic
integration of ten South east Asian countries, including Thailand. Trade duties are reduced among the
nation members to promote the free flow of goods and services. As a benefit of the AEC, foreign
companies are interested in investing and using Thailand as a gate to other ASEAN markets, owe to

to their strategy of growth was to develop and acquire oil and gas reserves. They are aiming to double

Many things have changed over the past few decades. Gay marriage is becoming more accepted as a

and femininity, and sexuality is becoming an even more accepted topic of discussion. While all of
these changes are moving in the right direction, and everyone should be treated equally even on
account of their race, gender, or sexuality, the one thing that has not changed is very much evident in
today s music scene. Today, women are still being objectified as part of good publicity as well as to

originally published in 1975, Mulvey makes many claims that are still relevant to today s media, and
especially relevant to the music industry. Many of the claims that Mulvey makes are very heavily
supported by the kinds of messages that a popular hip hop song, Get Low by Lil Jon, makes. The
messages that the song sends speak volumes, and as the song aligns with claims that Mulvey makes,
the song becomes increasingly more objectifying.
Before delving into media, one must understand a little bit about the psychoanalytic theory that
Mulvey makes her claims from. First, Freud suggests that because women are without a penis, they
have a castration complex, so they compensate for this by having children. The child s first love

Relationship Between Grey And Cameron
The relationship between Grey and Cameron deteriorated rapidly throughout the Waikato Wars. Grey
was constantly searching for one determining knockout blow to defeat Maori forces, while Cameron
was a realist who realised that attacking the Maori Pa head on was suicidal. This difference in opinion
led to the two men arguing constantly which had a profound impact on the war.
The Waikato Wars (1863 1864) were a component of the New Zealand Wars which were active from
1845 to 1872. The wars have also commonly been known as the Maori Wars or the Land Wars .
During these wars there was a huge divide in society. Many people debate whether these wars were
over land or sovereignty. The New Zealand wars were a series of individual battles between the higher
government and various Maori tribes.
The Wars were caused by a miss understanding of ownership between Maori and Pakeha. When the
British settlers came to New Zealand they thought that the Maori were utilising the land like they
should. The settlers wanted to buy the land off the Maori but they refused. But of course, they all had
different views. Maori pass on land from generations and inherit it from their ancestors, whereas

Anti-War Pacifism
Pacifism covers an array of views and there are many subcategories of pacifism, some of which I will
cover, but the main definition of the word pacifism is the opposition to war and/or violence. Perhaps
the most famous use of the word pacifism is found in the Sermon on the Mount , where Jesus claims
the peacemakers are blessed. In this passage, the Greek word eirenopoios is translated into Latin as
pacifici, which means those who work for peace. One common and simple argument for pacifism
among religious groups or god fearing people is the argument that god s revealed words says, through
the bible, Thou shalt not kill.
Universal pacifists are morally opposed to all violence, not just killing. And many universal pacifists

If the Germans, instead of being resisted by force of arms, had been passively permitted to establish
themselves wherever they pleased, the halo of glory and courage surrounding the brutality of military
success would have been absent, and public opinion in Germany itself would have rendered any
oppression impossible. He taught non resistance as proper defense to violence. For such antiwar
pacifists, all participation in war is morally wrong.
A universal and unavoidable product of war is that soldiers get killed. Most people accept these
killings as a necessary evil and that the ends justify the means. If the war is justifiable ,the killing of
enemy soldiers is deemed as a necessary triumph of what is right. If the war is unjustified, it is seen as
honorable to fight for one s country, whether you agree with them or not. But antiwar pacifists do not
take the lives of soldiers for granted. Everyone has a right to life and killing on the battlefield is a
direct violation of that right. In a standard interpretation of basic rights, it is never morally justifiable
to violate a right in order to produce some good. In war, the argument goes, kill or be killed, and that
type of killing is killing in self defense. But, according to anti war pacifists, killing in the name of self
defense during times of war cannot be justified unless a) they had no other way to protect their

With every great video game there is always a final battle as the same goes with every great movie
there is always a great ending, the same goes for life as long as we live our lives although not always
long but anyways amazing life sadly must always coming to an end even the beautiful flowers in your

Ball Turret Gunner all highlight different deaths and each having there our unique symbol and
importance. In Randall Jarrell`s The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner , although short describes a the
hard and short lived life of a Ball Turret Gunner who drives a plane that doesn`t have a parachute his
plane must have been hit or crashed because early in the poem you can he is death bed. As the Gunner
is dying he is having the death flashbacks they say you have when you re on the verge of dying he first
mentions his mother saying From my mother`s sleep I fell into the State , probably comparing his
mother s sleep to his early signs of death .Then he remembers the experience of being that high in the
air flying the plane and comments six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life , using the plane
distance from Earth to represent him furthering more and more into death calling life a dream. The
most tragic part of this poem comes at the end when the Gunner is

Analysis Of Hillbilly Night At The Wheel Club
Hillbilly Night takes place each Monday night at The Wheel Club, a basement venue in Montreal s
Notre Dame de Grace neighborhood. It s a homey, informal setting that is perfect for this event, which
has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Hillbilly night draws musicians and music lovers to play
and appreciate old time country music from the era before 1965. The Wheel Club is a large, one room,
hall with wood paneling and several long tables covered in checkered cloths. The décor has an old
timey feel with Christmas lights strung up behind the stage, old fashioned lanterns hanging from the
ceiling, and country music artifacts such as a large banner that reads Old Time Country Music behind
the stage, framed pictures of past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The music often features elements such as a twang or yodel. Also heard are elements of some of the
musical forms that are the roots of the country style, including folk ballads, Irish and Celtic fiddle
tunes, and European immigrant musical traditions. Common themes in country music are present in
the lyrics of many of the songs performed, such as cowboy songs, prison and outlaw laments (Doin
my Time by Earle Scruggs, Foggy Mountain Boys, Lester Flatt), heartbreak (Sea of Heartbreak, By
Don Gibson), wanderlust (Waiting for a Train, by Jimmie Rodgers), loneliness, (I wonder where you
are tonight by Hank Snow), drinking, and the hard life of the working class people (Down in the Old
Coal Mine, by Larry Sparks).
Musical genres included Rockabilly in songs played such as Don Gibson s Sweet, Sweet, Girl, or Doin
My Time (Scruggs, Foggy Mountain Boys, Lester Flatt ). Bluegrass classics such as The Kentucky
Waltz (Bill Monroe), or the Bluegrass standard Roll in my Sweet Baby s Arms.

The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position
Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people.
The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When
we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay
attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient,
but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating
Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method
known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the
problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an
outcome efficiently and amicably.
The Method
Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not
perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving
end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According
to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem.
The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication.
To prevent these problems from happening, the authors suggest that we build a working relationship
and focus on the problem itself, not the

Nintendo History
In 1889, Fusajiro Yamauchi founded a small company in a building in the heart of Kyoto, Japan.
(Nintendo History. n.d.) The company s purpose was to create a form of Japanese playing card called
Hanafuda. He called this company Nintendo. Over the next century Nintendo grew and expanded,
changing its products and services, and attempting new things as the times changed. Then, during the
1970s Nintendo fixed its eyes on a new market, video games. Nintendo showcases how a small card
company can become a gaming powerhouse and a legend for companies and gamers alike.
During the 19th century Japan closed its borders to the outside world. Alongside this isolationism the
Japanese government also banned western products and ideas. One such product was ... Show more

and the Nintendo DS, a dual screen portable system (Nintendo History. n.d.). In 2006 the Nintendo
Wii was released. Cheap, small, and with a massive collection of high quality games, the Nintendo
Wii became the best selling console of its generation, outselling both the PS3 and Xbox 360 combined
(Gaudiosi, (2007).
The most current Nintendo home console is the Nintendo Wii U. This console has received criticism
due to its poor graphics, strange touch screen controller, and unpopular launch titles.
There are rumors about the next Nintendo console, dubbed the NX.Very little is known about it, but
the speculation is that it s more powerful than the PS4 and may use cartridges, not discs. The Nintendo
brand has changed over the years, starting out as a simple card company that has expanded into the
massive electronic giant we know today. They have had their ups and downs through their time as a
gaming company but they always have the gamer s interest in mind. As the late CEO of Nintendo,
Satoru Iwata said, On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game
developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer (Yu, E., Chan, W.

conditions
More than half of the world s supply of cobalt is delivered from DR Congo. 40% of all workers in
mines are children. Children as young as seven work in extremely harsh conditions to mine cobalt
which ends up in a lot of items we use in our daily life such as smartphones, cars, and computers.
Mining is one of the worst forms of child labour, due to the hazardous conditions and strenuous work,
and In 2014, approximately 40,000 young boys and girls were forced to work in the unbearable heat
with clouds of red dust and almost no light. Many have sported various infections from working in
polluted water. Children are forced dig at depths of 200 to 300 meters and are at constant risk of rock

The law sets minimum for admission to work at the age of 15 after the employer has obtained consent
of parents or guardians to work for more than 4 hours a day and all children are banned by law from
working in hazardous jobs. Authorities lack financial and human resources to perform controls and
prosecute offenders who make use of child labour. Democratic Republic of the Congo made a
moderate advancement in efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labor. However, children in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to engage in the worst forms of child labor, including the
mining of gold, cobalt, cassiterite (tin ore), coltan, and wolframite. Children are used in armed
conflict, sometimes as a result of forced recruitment or abduction by non state armed groups. The
prescribed penalties for forced or compulsory labor remain low and do not serve as deterrents.
Decentralization, a lack of resources, and poor coordination have prevented and slowed the
government s efforts to combat child labor, and laws mandating free primary education are not

  • 2. Essay on Causes of the 1918 Influenza Pandemic It killed more people in twenty four weeks than AIDS has killed in twenty four years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. John Barry Many historians call the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 the deadliest disease outbreak of all time. As many as 100 million people were killed as a direct result of this disease (Taubenberger 1). The Great Pandemic affected everyone, the prosperous and the poor, developed and underdeveloped nations. Entire villages in Alaska were wiped out because of the viral disease (Public Health Service). The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 was caused by World War One, a high volume of immigration, and poor sanitary conditions. First reports of the virus came in from a small county in Kansas. In ... War fatalities were the immediate effects of the Great War and the incredible spread of a disease was a later one. As a matter of fact, more people died from the Great Influenza Pandemic than from World War One (Tauenberger1). After World War One, Europe and Asia were in chaos. Many European people were without a home, a job and way of life. Desperate, hundreds of thousands immigrated to more stable and industrialized nations such as the United States of America. From 1915 to 1919, an average of over two hundred thirty four thousand immigrants per year came to the United States of America (Cohn 2). A large number of these immigrants came from Europe and were processed at Ellis Island in New York City. Forty percent of all Americans can trace their heritage to Ellis Island (United States Department of the Interior). Ellis Island was so overcrowded with people, the government hurriedly built dormitories, kitchens, and hospitals (United States Department of the Interior). When these people came, they arrived in over crowded boats from unclean places. Due to widespread disease in the boats, there were many burials at sea. One of these burials quite ironically, was my great uncle who was four years old. Upon arrival, from Italy, my great aunt was buried. When the immigrants arrived, government ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of Deductions Last but not the least, although §179 immediate expensing and bonus depreciation appear to be beneficial to Patriot, those favorable tax treatments can change in future years depending on the Congress. Chances are high that §179 deduction will be limited to a smaller amount and bonus depreciation will be excluded for future years. Therefore it is rather crucial for Patriot to change existing accounting method to maximize deductions and to avoid any risks of potentially getting examined by the IRS. To begin with, Patriot should develop a formal written accounting manual covering the treatment for acquiring tangible properties before January 1, 2015 so Patriot can utilize the safe harbor rule for 2015 if needed. I believe that with this training, you will be able to help protect this village from the evils that have recently approached it. Our enemies have encircled us from all sides. Take your skills and knowledge and wipe them all out. Daedalus told his apprentice one day. Thank you for your training sir. I will take the skill I learned Piercing Strike and defeat all of the rat like creatures that plagued our village. Good! I like your train of thought. Here, take this pack of small healing potions. They will help you during battle. John reached out and grabbed the small bag. Inside were five small bottles of blood red liquid. This liquid must be the healing potions. The Glenfort handwraps were basically thin strips of unused leather sewn together. The Glenfort pants was blue in color and provided somewhat better protection than his tattered pants. The rusted steel sword, though chipped, was sharp enough to cut through flesh and hide...same thing with the old dagger. John grimaced at the quality of his weapons...five gold coins...ten years of part time work...all gone and all he got was such shitty equipment. • 5. Compare And Contrast A Noiseless Patient Spider A Noiseless Patient Spider , by Walt Whitman, and The Snow Man , by Wallace Stevens are two poems that contrast well with each other, while still sharing some similarities. The two poems take place in nature, and are about the observations of the surrounding area, with Whitman s poem being more focused on a creature, a spider to be specific. Steven s poem focused more on the area itself. They are both rather philosophical in nature, with Whitman s talking about soul and Steven s seems to be about a lack of soul. The two poems contrast in the tone with Whitman s being more optimistic and lighter, and Steven s being darker in contrast. The comparison will be of the two poem s tone, and motivation. The tone of the two poems are rather stark in their differences. Whitman s poem, is more optimistic, and this can be seen here, Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them (8 9). This excerpt is about the spider and the soul; it is describing the nature of both. The words themselves have lighter, happier connotations to them, as musing is used to describe the act of thinking, and that is a positive thing. The excerpt goes on to describe the soul and spider (which are one in the same in the poem) as something seeking adventure, or at least willing to go searching for something, another attribute that is positive. In general, the poem is observing the spider and what it is doing, with some commentary on the nature of the soul. This is somewhat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The animated film consists of the genres action, adventure, fantasy, drama, and historical. Mamoru Fujisawa, also known professionally as Joe Hisaishi, is the sole composer of the film Princess Mononoke. The music pinpointed the battles that would take place in the film and even introductions of some integral characters that would have an affect on the story. The music even highlighted and enhanced the climax of the film. The story begins when a prince named Ashitaka had gotten cursed with pain and death on his right forearm by a demon boar he was trying to fight with and was sent away from the village, losing his status as a prince by cutting off his hair. On his journey, he finds two injured men and sees an injured wolf as well as a girl who drinks the poisoned blood from the wolf s wound. • 9. The Role Of Professional Networking And How It Can Assist... Career Development: Networking Networking is an important part of career development and has been around for a many years. However, how individuals network has changed dramatically over the last few years with the inventions of social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook. This paper will discuss the role of professional networking and how it can assist with career development. Networking Professional networking is about making and maintaining relationships with individuals who could benefit one s career. By talking with individuals, getting to know more about them and their professional position, learning about their jobs and career experiences, and maintaining the relationships are all part of networking (PSU, 2015). There are multiple ways to network; individual face to face communication, through social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, or through professional organizations. One type of networking is used to gain information and knowledge about a particular career or job. For a student or someone who is changing career paths, just getting to know an individual in a position that is being sought is networking. Being able to garner information about that person s experiences may be sufficient for the individual to know if that is a career path they want to follow, or conversely, the information gained may be sufficient enough for the individual to know that it is a path they are no longer interested in (PSU, 2015). All of her answers gave me advice about how to be a great kindergarten teacher down the line. Standard one, promoting child development and learning, means that a teacher of young children must have an understanding of the characteristics and needs of young children as well as an understanding the many influences on young children (relationships with their families, their health, their learning styles, their opportunity to play) and use this understanding of children s development and learning to create learning environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for all children. Standard two, building family and community relationships means that a teacher must understand the importance and complex characteristics of children s families and communities. Teachers can then create respectful, reciprocal relationships that support families, and involve families in their children s development and learning. Standard three is knowing how to observe, document, and assess in order to support young children and families. Teachers must understand the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment. London s novels The Call of the Wind and White Fang share several of those similarities. London uses similarities throughout the settings in The Call of the Wind and White Fang. Terrorist threats and hijackings, many involving live explosives, plagued civil aviation again in the early 1970s. It took another disaster and more than a decade for the U.S. government to again take a serious look at airline security. This push was provided by the June 1985 plunge into the sea of an Air India flight near Ireland as the result of a powerful explosion in its cargo hold and a hijacking the next month of TWA Flight 847 from Athens. (Federal Aviation Administration, 2001) The FAA ordered U.S. air carriers to tighten security at major airports in other countries. And U.S. air carriers overseas were under FAA orders to match every piece of luggage with every passenger to defeat the possibility that a terrorist might check a suitcase containing a bomb, then not take the flight. Since that date, more than 24 fatal explosions have been recorded on aircraft around the world. Despite this evidence, the U.S. has made little real progress toward countering such threats to our airlines and their passengers. It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the boundaries of the individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal economy with the world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the productive forces and international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995) The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between the domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists of individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These theories were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state has its own foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and measures undertaken by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments. (Markusen, 1995) The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. Essentially, this is foretelling sign something is up. Finally, we see the textual proof of this matter. Miss Emily had passed away, and residents took it upon themselves to search the home. It was forty years since they had seen this particular room. the man s toilet things backed with tarnished silver, among them lay a collar and tie. . .the man himself lay in the bed, what was left of him rotted beneath what was left of his nightshirt (164). Homer Barron was not seen for years, the keyword nightshirt, the man s toilet things, pinpoint that Homer Barron was the man lying in the bed, not to mention that Miss Emily ended up with what she wanted, a man to hold until death. • 20. Paper On Predestination 1. Predestination has always been, for me, a tricky topic/doctrine. I find it very difficult to reconcile God s choosing the elect with the implications for those who are non elect. It seems very contradictory, and contrary to His nature, that an all loving God, who loves unregenerate persons as much (?) as regenerate persons, would essentially choose, whether actively or passively, individuals to spend eternity in hell. Admittedly, my own theological grasp of hell is somewhat lacking, as I don t really understand how allowing people to live in torment for all of eternity can be a loving action on God s part, although I know that it must somehow be loving. While I despise universalism, I can understand why Christians might wish to twist their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I find the argument that the repentance required for salvation can be considered a work to be interesting, but ultimately incorrect. It seems to me that repentance, defined as the abandonment of sin, inspired by godly sorrow for our sin (Erickson 352), is still enabled, or even given to us, by the Lord, without whose influence we would not be capable, in our total depravity, of experiencing a truly godly sorrow over our sin. Also, I disagree with the argument that repentance moves us away from salvation by faith alone, as repentance is part of faith. True faith cannot be separated from repentance (352), as they are interwoven together, or two sides of the same coin (Zuck 5). For example, the self stated purpose of the Gospel of John is so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name (English Standard Version, John 20:31). The entire book of John, which is clearly evangelistic and dedicated to bringing people to faith in Christ (as God), does not speak of repentance at all, indicating its position as an aspect of conversion alongside faith, rather than as a separate entity in the process of salvation. Indeed, if repentance is distinct from faith as a requirement to be saved, then the full gospel is not given by John (Ironside 37 38), which is at odds with his evangelistic purpose. Both repentance and faith are acts, yes, but not works in and of themselves (or if they are, they are primarily done or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Why Is Dedication Important Being a senior in high school, I am just discovering the secret to being a successful athlete; one cannot just show up to practice and expect a desired outcome. Dedication is the willingness and drive to go beyond one s boundaries for one s desires. Playing for a softball team that has 19 state championships and 27 consecutive regional titles, I have always been taught that dedication was the key. A lot of time has been put into practices to prepare for all the great titles the team and I have won. Practice, effort, and teamwork are the main reasons on why dedication is the real secret to success. Showing up to a sporting event that you participate in, just to be present will not make someone a successful athlete. As a young athlete my parents always forced me to attend practice, or at least I felt that way. Looking back it was all because of the potential they saw in me as an athlete. Playing on the varsity level in the eighth grade was a challenge, but it really opened my eyes to the fact that dedication is the secret. Practicing day in and day out really drilled that into my head. If I wanted to be good, I had to work for it. Others always say practice makes perfect, but really if you do ... This resulted in her actions almost jeopardizing our goal of an undefeated regional title. She introduced the team to bad habits at practice and was never dedicated to accomplishing the team s goal. Developed nations are wealthy, which in turn have good infrastructure, labor and worker laws, and have less crime. Developed nations have the superior infrastructure. These countries have more bridges that are better maintained. They also have better highways and roads that are paved with fewer potholes. In addition, sewers, hospitals, housing systems, and police stations are modernized with sewers having large pumps pushing the water through to avoid floods. For instance, the city of Miami has initiated a project aimed towards flood prevention by raising roads, installing pumps, and water mains and redo sewer connection (Flechas, 2017). Hospitals, as well as, police stations have powerful generators that can power all of their electrical equipment allowing them to still be effective and serve the population. Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining with antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days before results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will greatly benefit our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of radiation risk by tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on individually addressable carbon nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of multiple analytes and targets from a biological sample. The impact of this device in our information based world is manifold. Not only will the device make it accessible for the user to track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage levels but also empowers the user in making more informed lifestyle choices. The body is about the physical aspects of the brain neurons and how the brain is structured. The mind body problem is about how these two interact. One of the biggest questions in psychology and philosophy concerns the mind/body problem: If they are distinct, then how do they interact? And which of the two is in charge? Many theories have been put forward to explain the relationship between what we call your mind, so defined as the conscious thinking you which experiences your thoughts or spiritual being and your brain, part of your body. However, the most common explanation concerns the question of whether the mind and body are separate entities or the same thing. While asking and recording my responses for this particular exercise a few came up with the choice number 4 which stated, Nonphysical things cannot casually interact with physical things when comparing it , your mind being able to interact with physical things in general was immediately shut down , that it was not possible, that you cannot casually interact , between the mind and the outside world at a whim, with out some kind of training to understanding the non physical things ... A good research supports or challenges existing theory. In the world of theory, theory in common language differs from scientific theory, and psychological theory. Theory in common language is use to mean a guess, idea or speculation that someone has about something that is not tested. Scientific theory is an explanation for a phenomenon based on previous observations that have been built on a set of facts and principles that will allow us to predict future behaviors and events . Psychology theory describes a behavior and make predictions about future behaviors, emotions, and thoughts of individuals. INTRODUCTION This section contains Background , Research Questions and Objectives , and Scope of the Project . 1.1 BACKGROUND The beauty industry has been marked as the most prominent industry in Thailand for the last five years, with skin care as the most valuable sector (Sanoachitt, 2015; Euromonitor International, 2016). In 2015, the skin care sector expanded by 9% in term of value to reach Bt65.6 billion or £1.45 billion (MarketLine, 2016). The main contributor to the growth was an increase in the attention of Thai people towards their appearance and wellness. The users of skin care products are no longer limited to senior women but are now popular among all age and gender (Pratruangkrai, 2015). The market observers expect the sector to grow continually and value Bt76.7 billion or £1.55 billion by 2020, despite the negative outlook of the national income (Euromonitor International, 2016; Chinosuntrakorn, 2009). The main driving forces of the skin care market are the opening of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and an increase of pollution and stress one encounters in daily life. The AEC is the economic integration of ten South east Asian countries, including Thailand. Trade duties are reduced among the nation members to promote the free flow of goods and services. Many of the claims that Mulvey makes are very heavily supported by the kinds of messages that a popular hip hop song, Get Low by Lil Jon, makes. The messages that the song sends speak volumes, and as the song aligns with claims that Mulvey makes, the song becomes increasingly more objectifying. Before delving into media, one must understand a little bit about the psychoanalytic theory that Mulvey makes her claims from. First, Freud suggests that because women are without a penis, they have a castration complex, so they compensate for this by having children. The child s first love interest is their mother, and this is where desire begins. Later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Relationship Between Grey And Cameron The relationship between Grey and Cameron deteriorated rapidly throughout the Waikato Wars. Grey was constantly searching for one determining knockout blow to defeat Maori forces, while Cameron was a realist who realised that attacking the Maori Pa head on was suicidal. This difference in opinion led to the two men arguing constantly which had a profound impact on the war. The Waikato Wars (1863 1864) were a component of the New Zealand Wars which were active from 1845 to 1872. The wars have also commonly been known as the Maori Wars or the Land Wars . During these wars there was a huge divide in society. Many people debate whether these wars were over land or sovereignty. The New Zealand wars were a series of individual battles between the higher government and various Maori tribes. The Wars were caused by a miss understanding of ownership between Maori and Pakeha. When the British settlers came to New Zealand they thought that the Maori were utilising the land like they should. The settlers wanted to buy the land off the Maori but they refused. But of course, they all had different views. Maori pass on land from generations and inherit it from their ancestors, whereas Pakeha can just trade the land more money. Grey and Cameron s relationship deteriorated hugely during the Invasion of the Waikato. Sir George Grey (born 1812) made a huge impact on New Zealand during the Waikato Wars. He played a lead role in the wars between 1863 and 1864. Grey came to New Zealand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Anti-War Pacifism Pacifism covers an array of views and there are many subcategories of pacifism, some of which I will cover, but the main definition of the word pacifism is the opposition to war and/or violence. Perhaps the most famous use of the word pacifism is found in the Sermon on the Mount , where Jesus claims the peacemakers are blessed. In this passage, the Greek word eirenopoios is translated into Latin as pacifici, which means those who work for peace. One common and simple argument for pacifism among religious groups or god fearing people is the argument that god s revealed words says, through the bible, Thou shalt not kill. Universal pacifists are morally opposed to all violence, not just killing. And many universal pacifists derive their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the Germans, instead of being resisted by force of arms, had been passively permitted to establish themselves wherever they pleased, the halo of glory and courage surrounding the brutality of military success would have been absent, and public opinion in Germany itself would have rendered any oppression impossible. He taught non resistance as proper defense to violence. For such antiwar pacifists, all participation in war is morally wrong. A universal and unavoidable product of war is that soldiers get killed. Most people accept these killings as a necessary evil and that the ends justify the means. If the war is justifiable ,the killing of enemy soldiers is deemed as a necessary triumph of what is right. If the war is unjustified, it is seen as honorable to fight for one s country, whether you agree with them or not. But antiwar pacifists do not take the lives of soldiers for granted. Everyone has a right to life and killing on the battlefield is a direct violation of that right. In a standard interpretation of basic rights, it is never morally justifiable to violate a right in order to produce some good. In war, the argument goes, kill or be killed, and that type of killing is killing in self defense. But, according to anti war pacifists, killing in the name of self defense during times of war cannot be justified unless a) they had no other way to protect their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people. The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient, but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an outcome efficiently and amicably. The Method Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem. The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication. To prevent these problems from happening, the authors suggest that we build a working relationship and focus on the problem itself, not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
