Similarities Between Web Dubois And Booker T Washington
Both Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois were radical men of their time, and each managed to
have great contributions to the overall welfare of blacks. However, their methods for increasing black
status differed greatly. While Booker T. Washington believed that respect for blacks would come
gradually through education, WEB Dubois felt that black people should protest against their fate.
Although Booker T. Washington s methods were appropriate in that past time, WEB Dubois had some
good points that fit in more with modern society.
Born a slave, Booker T. Washington was an educated man who gave his life to promote the education
of blacks, and believed strongly that education was the first step to acceptance. Through his writings
and speeches, Booker T. Washington showed his belief in the dignity of work. He was not wealthy,
and saved pennies for his own schooling by sleeping under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Washington had similarities in their ideas. Both Washington and DuBois tended to blame Negroes
themselves for their condition. They both placed emphasis on self help and moral improvement rather
than on rights. They both also wanted African Americans to have the same rights as white Americans.
WEB Dubois said The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, this longing to attain
self conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self. In this merging he wishes
neither of the older selves to be lost... He simply wishes to make it possible for a man to be both a
Negro and an American... This shows that WEB Dubois is blaming the Negroes for their condition. In
reaction, Booker T. Washington said The man who has learned to do something better than anyone
else, has learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner, is the man who has a power and
influence that no adverse circumstances can take from him . In this quote, Booker T. Washington is
talking about that the Negroes have the power to change their

Abortion Report Essay examples
Abortion Report
I have chosen for my topic Abortion. I think that it is a topic that is very important in today s society
however it is often dodged or avoided.
Different Presidents say different things and have different stances about it, and often it is had to know
what to think about it. Basically there are two different ways of looking at it: Pro Choice, which takes
the stance of saying that it is the woman s choice if she wants to have an abortion and that it is only
her business. So basically they want it to remain legal. Then there is the other stance of Pro Life which
says that it should not remain legal and that it is just about as bad as cold blooded murder. I happen to
agree with this.
This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several cases have been fought for the right to choose. Many of these have been hard cases but they
stuck with it, and many people believe that that is why we have some of the rights we do today. Here
are some important cases:
1. 1965 Griswold vs. Connecticut. Upheld the right to privacy and ended the ban on birth control.
Eight years later, the Supreme Court ruled the right to privacy included abortions.
2. 1973 Roe vs. Wade. The state of Texas had outlawed abortions. The
Supreme Court declared the law unconstitutional, bur refused to order an injunction against the state.
On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court voted the right to privacy included abortions.
3. 1976 Planned Parenthood vs. Danforth. Ruled that requiring consent by the husband and the
consent from a parent if a person was under 18 was unconstitutional. This case supported a woman s
control over her own body and reproductive system.
To conclude about Pro Choice I will state what Dana Pentoney has said:
Abortion deals with one s private life and should have nothing to do with the government. However,
abortion should not be used as a means of birth control, but if a fetus will be unwanted, it is better to
be aborted than to be abused or neglected. Now onto Pro Life. This is what

How Did The American Slave Trade Affect The West Indies
When most people think of the West Indies, they mainly think of Jamaica, Barbados, and Hispaniola
(the Dominican Republic and Haiti), which also happen to be some of the most popular vacation
areas. Yet, after a flight over to any of these hot spots, one would begin to notice the land is sprinkled
with old sugar plantations, the countries and territories are heavily populated with African and Creole
descendants, and there is a clear division between wealthy communities and their slum like
counterparts. These characteristics were brought upon the West Indies through Sugar Trade, beginning
roughly around the first English settlements in the 1620 s and living through the passing of the English
Slave Trade Act on March 25, 1807. Europeans began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After arriving to the plantations, slaves almost instantaneously faced the high mortality rate which was
caused by disease, despondency, accidents, malnutrition, and the harsh labor regime (Pares). The most
common of the diseases included smallpox, scurvy, worms, dysentery, and more, which were paired
with the overworking and underfeeding of slaves. The unhealthy states of the slaves worsened when
they were paired with the punishments of masters due to resistance and refusal to work. In some cases,
the situations were so awful that many African slaves attempted to run away; those who were
successful were given the name

The Artist Of Brownstones By Jacob Lawrence
Topic 1: Brownstones is a bit of abstract art depicting a group of what appear to be African Americans
going about their lives on a busy street. This is a clear piece of the architecture that led to the swelling
civil rights movement of the 50s. During the 1920s and 1930s, as a result of the combined forces of
the Great Migration, the Depression, the Jazz Era, and the Harlem Renaissance, Harlem was
transformed into a community with a unique identity. A sanctuary for African American art, this new
cultural oasis enjoyed a sense of optimism in spite of economic difficulties. Like many writers and
artists of his time, Jacob Lawrence, the artist of Brownstones, was inspired by the dynamic vitality of
the Harlem community. One of the more interesting aspects of this is the communal response that was
brought about by the Renaissance . Initially during the civil rights movement it was students who
marched at the forefront, those with nothing to lose and everything to gain. However, over time the
movement blossomed fully, and those from all walks of life stepped up to defend liberty. In the wake
of the assassination of Martin Luther King, we as a nation(most of us anyway) stood as one against
oppression and hatred. We fought the good fight, without weapons or blows, but with dollars, steps
and words. It wasn t a war though. You don t win wars by dying for your country, you win by making
the other guy die for his. This was a rebellion, two sides claimed they held the same

She is uninsurable but would like to obtain additional life insurance. In this particular situation Sonja
has already attached the guaranteed purchase option to her ordinary life insurance so; therefore she
doesn t have to worry about not being insured. She also can obtain additional life insurance because
she will not need to show evidence of insurability. (Rejda, George, McNamara, 2014).
E. Sonja is seriously injured in an auto accident. After six months, she is still unable to return to work.
She has no income from her job, and the insurance premium payments are financially burdensome. In
this case Sonja has an ordinary life insurance with the waiver of premium attached so after six months
all premiums would be waived if Sonja is totally disabled. Under some policies, a retroactive refund
of the premium paid during the first six months would be paid. (Rejda, George, McNamara, 2014).
F. Sonja has a mentally disabled son. She wants to make certain that her son will have a continuous
income after her death. In this particular situation I would say to have a Trust as well as a Will. Having
a Will can specifically state exactly what the decease last wishes were and by having a Trust with
someone assigned to the Trust or a guardian on the Will, will make everything crystal clear with no
hassles on what the last demands were. Another way is to use the fixed amount or fixed period option

His effectiveness rests on the fact that he has developed the practical essence of Marxism to a pitch of
clarity and concreteness never before achieved. He has rescued this aspect of Marxism from an almost
total oblivion and by virtue of this theoretical action he has once again placed in our hands the key to a
right understanding of Marxist method. For it is our task and this is the fundamental conviction
underlying this book to understand the essence of Marx s method and to apply it correctly. In no sense
do we aspire to improve on it. If on a number of occasions certain statements of Engels are made the
object of a polemical attack this has been done, as every perceptive reader will observe, in the spirit of
the system as a whole. On these particular points the author believes, rightly or wrongly, that he is
defending orthodox Marxism against Engels himself. We adhere to Marx s doctrines, then, without
making any attempt to diverge from them, to improve or correct them. The goal of these arguments is
an interpretation, an exposition of Marx s theory as Marx understood it. But this orthodoxy does not in
the least strive to preserve what Mr. von Struve calls the aesthetic integrity of

Appraise the impact that the rise in networked society is having on different creative disciplines and
identify some of the key trends, innovations, behaviours and emergent opportunities for creative
disciplines.
The term networked society describes the many different phenomena related to the social, political,
economic and cultural changes caused by the increase in connected digital information. In this essay I
aim to assess the value of networked society within the creative disciplines of documentary film, fine
art and dance. I intend to convey the positive value of networked society on my chosen creative
disciplines by looking at many different sources and view points and assessing both the positive and

As people become more used to watching televison on demand without adverts or with less adverts,
companies are looking for new ways to market their products. They have come up with the idea of
integration where a brand or service is shown in a film. The recent James Bond film Skyfall included
integration of the brands Aston Martin, Audi, Aurora, Caterpillar, CNN, Coca Cola Zero, Heineken,
Jaguar, Range Rover, Royal Doulton, Sony, Scrabble and Omega amongst others. Integration has
always been there, but is now on the increase. Filmmakers may be expected to increasingly work
around these brands which will have to feature in the film, a practice which threatens artistic integrity.
However with funding platform sites such as Kickstarter this can be kept to a minimum.
Networked society is also having a positive impact on the creative discipline of dance, from first spark
of an idea to when it is viewed by the public. An example of the positive impacts that the rise in
networked society is having on different creative disciplines can be seen in how web video is
increasing global innovation in dance. Due to people posting videos online dance has been changing
hugely. Jonathan Chu explains this phenomenon,

Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay
Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to reflect and
to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can be used by
investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based on its relative
level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability to distinguish
products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in the actual economic
market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the percentage of sales left over
after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after calculating the ratio, shows us that
from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin, they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015,
telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on capital employed (ROCE) This is another
profitability ratio that help us to measure how a company can generate profits from its capital
employed by comparing net operating profit to capital employed. Investors are looking at this ratio to
reflect on how efficiently a company uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing
strategies. CTF s ROCE in 2014 was 16,46% while in 2015 they reported an ROCE that is 18,22%
which suggest the company is performing worst in 2015, in terms of profitability. This can be down to
poor cost control or more ineffective brand use in 2015. Gross profit margin It is used to assess the

Summary Of Cimabue s Virgin And Child Enthroned
Cimabue created Virgin and Child Enthroned in about 1280, while Giotto di Bondone, an Italian
painter and architect, created his Virgin and Child Enthroned between 1305 and 1310 (Stokstad
Cothren, 548, 550). The two paintings have various similarities. However, the most obvious
similarities are that both focus on Mary and the Child Jesus, are long and pentagon shaped, and
include figures of angels and prophets. In addition, both paintings have a sort of Byzantine influence
(Cimabue s painting more than Giotto s), including the golden backgrounds and the hierarchy of the
figures ( The Ognissanti ). However, there are many noticeable differences between the paintings as
well. In this discussion post, I will be focusing on three major differences: the portrayal of Mary; the
positioning of Mary and Jesus; and the placement of the angels and prophets (including where the
figures are looking).
Before I begin discussing the specific differences between the two paintings, it is important to mention
that the painting styles of Cimabue and Giotto differed significantly. Cimabue painted with a more
Gothic and Byzantine style. His figures tended to be two dimensional and thus his paintings looked
rather flat. He made his figures very elongated and stylised, which was common among Gothic and
Byzantine artists at the time ( Biography of Giotto ). Giotto, on the other hand, while being slightly
influenced by the Gothic and Byzantine style, largely deviated from the traditional

Reflection To Return To The Classroom Culture As A...
Reaction to Ginott Quote The Ginott quote reminds me of my years as a preschool teacher. I had times
that I was more inspiring than torturous, and times that were more miserable than joyous.
Unfortunately, this same sediment echoed down the halls of the school. I was a requested teacher and I
knew that I loved to work with kids, but I was having a hard time being trapped in a room with them
for eight hours. I lacked knowledge and resources but fully understood the impact I had on the
children in the class. I knew I had to leave and learn, before I did damage. The variation in the way
that I viewed my position is one of the reasons I returned to school to continue my education. That
was almost four years ago. Since then, I have completed my bachelors and am working on my
masters. I plan to return to the classroom culture as an elementary school counselor. During my hiatus,
there was a lot of time to reflect on things that I did well and things that I need to improve on. There
are three areas within the Ginott quote that relate to areas of improvement: 1) personal approach, 2)
daily mood, 3) escalate crisis. Personal Approach. According to Ginott, It is my personal approach that
creates the climate (Hardin, 2013, p. 11 12). I was known for having extravagant themed lessons.
Costumes were created, pictures where taken, and a lot of hard work went into planning and
implementing these events. When I was excited to come to school the kids were excited to be

Individual commitment to a group effort that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society
work, a civilization work ( Team Quotes ). This quote is from the famous football coach Vince
Lombardi, and it doesn t matter whether you re a Green Bay Packer fan or a Chicago Bear fan.
Everyone has to agree that Vince Lombardi knew about what it takes to be on a a team. Oxford s
Online Dictionary defines the word team as, a group of people who compete in a sport, game, etc.,
against another group ( Team Definition ). While this definition and Lombardi s definition are
accurate, in my opinion, they are not complete. A team is so much more than a collection of people

A team isn t just a group of people united in a common goal as Vince Lombardi stated. Just like a
family, a team learns and grows together. Winning or losing isn t as important as growing and
improving. My father always says that in tennis you can learn more from your losses than your
victories. This is true for life too. When your in a family, you learn so much from each other s failures.
You learn what to do and what not to do. You also learn how to be there for each other when times get
tough. This unites you as a family and brings you closer together. The same thing happens on a team.
When I was younger, I swam for the Marlins Swim team. We practiced twice a day in the summer, and
it was exhausting. Our coaches pushed us hard to get us ready for the Conference Meet against our
biggest rivals, the Normal Parks and Rec Sharks and the team from Rob Knight. We all wanted to win
so badly that we were willing to give up most of our summer break to do laps in the pool at 6:00am.
One of the boys on our team had special needs, but he practiced hard just like anybody else. When it
came time for the Conference Meet, our head coach called a meeting and told us that he was putting
this boy in several of the relays because the boy going to have surgery at the end of summer and

A common statement typically heard is don t go on your phone at night you won t be able to sleep and
as we all know sleep is a really important part of our health. The reason being on our phones or any

Representations are not merely objective truth, but encompass conscious selectivity and emphasis
which shape and define the meaning we derive from a text. The importance of the Smithsonian s

in its purpose, between its obligation for factual accuracy and intrinsic support of specific cultural

Where the Homeless Live in Canada
While a vacant residence or commercial building may not be the best conditions for the average
person to live in, it has become the norm for individuals that may prefer to live homeless and not
follow the traditional lifestyle that is expected in society. The subculture groups known as squatters
have taken a criminal offense of trespassing and have established a way of living that allows a
homeless individual the rights to a residence without going through the process of legally purchasing a
home. The question lies, why have these homeless individuals chosen to take residency in a
nonconformist ways, how do they live in such penurious ways and is there method to their madness?
Historically, squatters were recognized in Australia where they lived on a large area of Crown land in
order to graze livestock. While originally they had no permissible right to the land, they gained its
custom by inheriting the land by being the first Europeans in the area and not leaving the property.
The idea of squatting in vacant residential and commercial buildings became popular all over the
world for all ages, genders and races that a squatting community had been developed.
The squatting community has tips and tricks that are known and passed on through word of mouth or
by professional housing advocates. An online video found on squattheplanet.com provided helpful
information on the how to be an effective squatter. Safety is the priority of a prospective squatter, and

Pyonephrosis Research Paper Pyonephrosis is uncommon in adults and rare in children, and it is
thought to be extremely rare in neonates. It has been reported in several neonates and adults, making it
clear that the condition may develop in any age group. The true incidence of pyonephrosis with other
renal infections has not been reported. However, the risk of pyonephrosis is increased in patients with
upper urinary tract obstruction and with patients who are immunocompromised or antibiotics for a

There are a number of different reasons for urinary tract obstruction. This can include pregnancy,
cancer, fungus balls, ureterocele, ureteral strictures, tuberculosis and neurogenic bladder. (Chris, n.d.).
There are a number of symptoms that should raise concern for pyonephrosis. This can include: flank
pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, little or no urine and a weak and narrow urine stream. The symptoms
of peritonitis, abdominal pain, tenderness, abdominal distension, diarrhea or constipation with the
inability to pass gas may also be present.
Sepsis is common in severe untreated cases, especially in immunocompromised patients. Apart from
the other symptoms mentioned above, there may also be rapid heart rate and a rapid breathing rate in
sepsis. When the mental status is altered and the blood pressure is very low, severe sepsis or septic
shock has arisen and death is a very likely consequence (Chris, n.d.).
Blood and urine tests are the main investigations to diagnose pyonephrosis along with the clinical
presentation and the patient s medical history. When urine cannot be collected due to the obstruction, a
sample has to be removed from the collecting system of the kidney.
Blood tests can include a complete blood count (CBC), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine and
a blood culture. Urine tests include a urinalysis and a urine culture. All of these tests help to determine
pyonephrosis (Chris, n.d.). Sonographic findings suggestive of pyonephrosis include

Essay on Racism in American History X
American History X is clearly a film dealing with racism. The interesting thing about this film is the
way in which the subject is treated. First of all, it is obvious that, though racism is always a difficult
subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any reservations or dumming down.
Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent
redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well spoken, charismatic and intelligent,
although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows that it is not just the
white, neo nazi racists who are fools to be involved in this, but all racism is foolish. Through these
methods, the film shows the viewer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Derek s time in prison shows the results of this terrible way of life, and from the moment he takes off
his shirt in the outdoor workout area, revealing his huge swastika tattoo to the other neo nazi inmates,
he becomes involved in another horrible situation, resulting in his being raped in the showers when
things go wrong. Perhaps the most tragic scene of the film is also its most effective in delivering to the
audience, the emotional destruction that racism can cause. When Danny at the end of the film is shot
repeatedly by a black student he had previously pissed off, Derek runs into the school, finds his
brother dead, and his life and the lives of his family are changed forever.
What makes Derek such a powerful and frightening character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the
fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular, backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central
character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of
Venice Beach and form, with the help of his mentor Cameron Alexander, the entire white supremacist
culture permeating the area. Instead of just telling them to hate black, hispanic, asian people because
they are of that race, he makes speeches, telling them charismatically and passionately how these
people are stealing their jobs, causing Americans to suffer a poor standard of living. He tells them
America needs to take care of Americans

The Main Factors And Effects Of The Movement Of Modernism
The movement of modernism is a movement that has been associated with the transformation of the
western societies through development of industrial societies that then resulted to the development of
cities. It is a movement that was conceived through the need to develop after the catastrophic events of
the world wars. One of the main factors that the modernism has influenced is the aspect of
architecture. The movement was developed as a way to reject and relinquish the traditional procedures
of planning and adopting better and new methods that are capable of improving the social condition of
people .

Building A Home Again After Foreclosure
Trying to own a home again after foreclosure can be scary, not only to the prospective applicant, but
also to the creditor. We all know that bad things happen to good people from losing a job due to a
company relocation or an unexpected illness or accident that causes excessive absences. Fortunately,
there are people (ie: creditors, loan officers, etc.) that understand and will assist someone to regain
home ownership. Now, a little about me before I go any further into this subject. I am Deborah

If a job was lost due to lack of work, sudden illness or accident, job relocation (company moved out of
the country), or company closed, some creditors or loan officers may be able to work on your behalf to
get you back into home ownership. There are current homeowners that may have had their house on
the market longer than they would have wanted and they may offer to finance the amount of the loan
for a potential serious buyer. Second, build a nest egg or cushion that will have at least six months of
living expenses in it. This will show stability to a potential loan officer in case of another possible job
loss and tells the loan officer that you are serious about owning a home again. The third rule is the
most time consuming, which is raising your credit score. House Logic states to be diligent in this
endeavor. Usually a credit score falls at least 150 points when there is a foreclosure. This is
detrimental to a credit score, but can be regained with hard work and money management skills
improving. It is recommended that a person with a foreclosure in their credit history needs to schedule
an appointment with a housing counselor. Those that seek education on money management and
budgeting will typically raise their borrowing power by $4,500 per family.(House). Number four says
you can shorten the waiting timeon applying for a mortgage after foreclosure if extenuating

Medieval Castles In Medieval Times
Medieval castles In the medieval times castles were super important. They were used/known for many

Examine the Framework of the Four Noble Truths
Examine the framework of the Four Noble Truths
Sean Reece Grange
The Four Noble Truths are much like a doctor s prescription; they are Buddha s prescription for
suffering. In the first two truths he diagnoses the problem of suffering, and identifies its cause. The
third truth is the discovery of a cure, and the fourth noble truth is the prescription as the Buddha sets
out the Eightfold path to achieve a release from suffering. Suffering is a serious illness to Buddhist s
because it keeps us in Samsara, the cycle of birth, death and rebirth and prevents us from attaining
enlightenment. The first step in the Buddha s medical process is to diagnose the problem, and this
means identifying Dukkha. The first noble truth is the truth of ... Show more content on

Desire is caused by our ignorance of reality, and is fuelled by our ambition to become, meaning to
have life hopes and dreams, such as to be wealthy. This causes us to grasp onto the things we are
afraid to lose in our lives lest we fall short of our goal because of it. It is this that keeps us rooted in
the cycle of Samsara.
There are three forms of desire (Tanha) and they show us the different ways we cause our own
suffering. Kama Tanha, meaning sensual pleasures, shows the desire to have any form of pleasure that
stimulates our senses. Bhava Tanha is the desire to become we all have life dreams and hopes, and
these ambitions cause us to desire our goals, and finally, Vibhava Tanha is the desire to get rid of. We
say things like I want to get rid of my anger rather than accepting it, and life, as the way it is. The only
reality worth contemplating is Anicca, because of change.

Romance Of The Three Kingdoms
Romance of the Three Kingdoms romanticizes historical events in the late Han dynasty and the Three
Kingdom period. A series of campaigns, known as Zhuge Liang s Northern Expeditions were adapted
and glamorized in order to narrate a fictional incident starring how Zhuge Liang, a chancellor regent,
who managed to save not only himself without an army, but also the entire empire; A king whose city
was about to be attacked decided the only thing he could do to save it was to order the gates be flung
open. He then told the attacking force that the city was empty and that they were welcome to enter.
Suspicious that the king s words were a trick to tempt them into an ambush, the enemy forces decided
to move on and the king s empty city was saved. The tactic stated above is called the Empty Fort
Strategy. Throughout the late eighteenth century, China did not reject the outside world. It just failed
to see that the globe had something to offer. China ran well enough with cheap labour and efficient
administration. Supply and demand was easily met in a way that left no incentive to invest in
technological improvement. Plus, China was unaware that an economic, technological and cultural
revolution was taking place in Europe and expanding throughout the rest of the world. For this reason,
China did not industrialize in the way that the West did. China became weak and fell behind the
technology race because of its poor leadership. Chinese emperors were more

Homeschooling Is More Beneficial For A Student
Times have drastically changed in the twenty first century, one of them being education. Many aspects
are considered when parents choose how they would like to educate their child. Aspects such as
academics, sports, learning accommodations, finances, student performance, and social life may all be
factors in the final decision. Over the past ten years, homeschooling has become increasingly popular
among Americans. According to Brian D. Ray from National Home Education Research Institute,
there are over 2.2 million homeschooled students in the United States. Although public schooling can
have its benefits, homeschooling is more beneficial for a student in today s society. Homeschooling,
also known as home education, is self explanatory. Home education is the educating of children or
students inside one s home, usually instructed by a parent or tutor. One of the most prominent reasons
for this is because of religious reasons. Other reasons may include, learning differences, family
reasons, or even educational/academic reasons. The most popular homeschooling styles include,
school at home, unschooling, Charlotte Mason, Montessori, relaxed/eclectic, classical, Waldorf, or
multiple intelligence. School at home is the most expensive method of schooling. It includes buying a
boxed curriculum that comes with textbooks, schedules, and a grade keeper. Unschooling is student

coefficients were computed to determine the relationship among different morphological and

From: Rebecca Machado
Date: 27th April 2011
Re: A critical review of the industry in which New Zealand Company Zespri International operates,
and the company s strategy and business model.
INTRODUCTION:
1409 was the start of New Zealand long and prosperous relationship with Kiwifruit growing.
Ironically, the kiwifruit seeds themselves were brought back by Whanganui teacher Mabel Fisher after
a trip in China. Horticulturist, Alexandra Allison nurtured and sprouted the seeds that have now turned
into an iconic Kiwi industry. Hayward Wright is the man responsible for the start of the Zespri brand.

The industry in which Zespri functions in within New Zealand can be broken up into three broad value
generating activities. The first activity is growing of kiwifruit which pertains to the orchards and
includes pest and disease control and harvesting. The second includes the post harvesting activities
including grading, packing and storing. The final stage and perhaps the most intrinsic stage includes
the exporting. This includes the selling and distribution of the kiwifruit to overseas markets. Zespri
International group is responsible for marketing almost all the export quality fruit from New Zeland.
The only exclusion being the Austrailian Market.
COMPANY STRATEGY
Ensuring success was not always easy for Zespri. In fact it can be said that the mere creation itself of
Zespri by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry was a branding strategy created to regain the lost
opportunity taken by New Zealands lower cost counter parts; Chile and Italy (cvtb). It seemed as
though the new strategy was a valid attempt to develope and sustain a market orientation within the
broad Kiwifruit industry.Zespri s structure was always said to be from the Market to the orchard as
opposed to traditionally being the other way around (cvtb). The brand strategy s main aim was to
differentiate New Zealand s own kiwifruit as being something iconic and premium as a product. The
aim furthered out to moving Zespri out from

Analytical Essay On Elie Wiesel s Book Thief
When we had to choose book for our literature circle discussion, we had an option to pick one book
out of six. I picked The book thief, because it looked very interesting and I never read it before.
Basically, Liesel was taken in foster family to start the new way of life. She moved from her town to
Molching, Germany, close to Munich. The book thief talks about struggles of German girl and her
foster family during the World War II.
When Liesel arrived to her new family, she was frequently called saumensch filthy pig. Her mom

Nobody informed people about allies coming, that s why they died when they were sleeping they did
not have a chance to hide in basement. Did they deserve any better, these people? How many had
actively persecuted others, high on the scent of Hitler s gaze, repeating his sentences, his paragraphs,
his opus? Was Rosa Hubermann responsible? The hider of a Jew? Or Hans? Did they all deserve to
die? The children? (Shmoop)
People who survived in other neighbourhoods went to the one where Liesel lived and they found her
in destroyed building. Everybody was surprised that she survived.
All in all, I liked this book a lot. First of all, it was hard to start reading it there was so many new
people and that s why I was confused a lot. Later in the book, it was hard to stop reading, because the
whole book was really interesting. There are short texts throughout the book they help a lot in some
confusing situations. Also, sometimes they explain some stuff more in depth. Overall, I liked this book
a lot and I would recommend it to anybody who likes history and breathtaking

Essay about The Hanger Games by Suzanne Collins
There are various examples of people throughout history who had the upper hand over others and have
abused the power they had to make a negative impact or control other people s lives. Power being
defined as the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behaviour of others or the course of events
and abuse, meaning the use of something to badly effect or for a bad purpose . Suzanne Collins
exemplifies power and abuse in various ways throughout her novel, The Hunger Games . This intense

This action causes resentment among the districts as described in the novel when it is explained why
Gale, Katniss friend, is not fond of Madge who is the mayors daughter You can see why someone like
Madge, who has never been at risk of needing a tessera, can set him off. The chance of her name being
drawn is very slim compare to those of us who live in the Seam. Not impossible, but slim. And even
though the rules were set up by the Capitol, not the districts, certainly not Madge s family, it s hard not
to resent those who don t have to sign up for the tesserae (The Hunger Gams Ch.1 pg. ) This further
shows how because people like Katniss are poverty stricken they begrudgingly will risk their lives and
enter their name into the bowl more times than needed, just for food.
There are many symbols throughout the novel that show rebellion against the Capitol, the main one
being the mocking jay pin that Katniss wore throughout the games. The pin she received was a gift
from Madge, to be worn as the token from district 12. The bird itself however was a sign of rebellion
and resilience long before Katniss wore it, the bird mocking jay being described as something of a
slap in the face to the Capitol (Pg 5 ) as the birds were a mutation that ended up blindsiding the capitol
during the rebellion years ago. It was the mockingjay pin Katniss wore that made Rue, a

the star is worth up to 50 coins, melons and lemons up to 150 coins, grapes up to 200 coins, blue bar
up to 300 coins, red bar up to 300 coins, and bells up to 500 coins.
If You ve Seen it Once...
RetroWheels is pretty solid across the board, but it does have a negative that we need to talk about.
This is because we aren t exactly enthused by the games bonus features, as they are sparse and far
from creative. The wild symbol is the most obvious special symbol in the game. This carries the usual
function of being able to substitute for other symbols in RetroWheels to complete a winning payline.

The Cultures Of Iran And The United States
The Cultures of Iran In the last few years we have heard about Iran and their nuclear program. There
has been constant back and forth on Iran getting a nuclear deal done with them saying they are only
building for energy and others, including the United States (U.S.), believing they are trying to build
nuclear weapons. If a deal is not completed and the U.S. has to take military action to stop the Iranian
nuclear program, then the U.S. will have to concentrate on the major characteristics that define the
Iranian culture, how those cultures interact in the joint, multinational, and interagency (JIIM)
community, how the U.S. will concentrate on these cultures in the planning and execution of company
level operations, and how Iran s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Islamic restrictions on dress code and total veiling might have affected the appearance of women in
public, but historical accounts of lavish marriages between Caliphs and their beautiful brides attest to
the diversity of designs, colours and fabrics worn indoors (Price, Culture of Iran ).
From this statement, you can see that the Iranian people believe that covering their women in public is
very important but when it comes to fashion inside their home, their dresses and the fabric they use in
their home can be very colorful.
The personal rituals and celebrations in Iran have many ways but when you look how they look at life
after death, you can tell how serious their culture is towards this area:
Allah is the ultimate source of power. A Muslim s first duty is to submit to God s will, follow the
rules, codes of conduct, and perform the prescribed rituals. For this reason purely ceremonial
prescriptions, such as ablutions before prayer, are put on exactly the same level as commandments of
an elevated moral value, such as that of honesty. Missing prayers (namaz), avoiding Roozeh (fasting)
or drinking wine are regarded as sin. Not adhering to Allah s commands in itself is an act of sin.
Ablutions and rituals, such as prayer (namaz), fasting, pilgrimage to Mecca and paying the religious
tax, are

Research Paper On Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes
Guy Fawkes is one of England s most famous criminals; the man most closely associated with the
group of English Catholics who planned the failed Gunpowder Plot of November 5th 1605. Even
though Fawkes wasn t the leader of the conspiracy, he was given the important task of lightening the
fuse to the gunpowder.
Guy Guido Fawkes was born in April 1570 in Stonegate in York, England. Fawkes grew up in York
with his parents Edith and Edward Fawkes, and his three siblings. However, Fawkes father died in
1578, and a couple of years later, his mother married the recusant Catholic Denis Bainbridge. Living
with Bainbridge and attending St. Peter s School in York at the same time is most likely the main
reasons why Guy Fawkes decided to convert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to catch the plotters, Cecil decided not to invade the cellar until the very last minute,
expecting some of the plotters to be in position only then.
Guy Fawkes even tried to light the fuse when he saw the soldiers coming, but he got overpowered.
Fawkes was taken directly to the Tower of London and was tortured until he confessed the crime and
gave up the names of the rest of the group.
Guy Fawkes was sentenced to the traditional traitors death; to be hanged, drawn and quartered .
However, on January 31st 1606, Fawkes jumped from the gallows and broke his own neck. This way,
he wasn t alive when his stomach was cut open and his guts spilled before his eyes. The remains of
him was chopped up and sent to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning to the people.
Today, the failed Gunpowder Plot is celebrated as Bonfire night all over Britain, with fireworks and
big fires. This tradition first started when the people of London lit fires to celebrate the safety of the
King. It is also common to burn effigies of Guy Fawkes on the bonfire, which makes some wonder
whether the Brits are celebrating Fawkes execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the

Analysis Of Harlem Renaissance Poetry
(A Comparative Analysis of Harlem Renaissance Poetry)
The great philosopher Plato once orated: Every heart sings a song, incomplete, until another heart
whispers back. PBS defines the the Harlem Renaissance a Cultural, social, and artistic explosion that
took place in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period
Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, musicians, photographers, poets, and
scholars. Those who wish to sing always find a song. At the touch of a lover, everyone becomes a
poet. Authors such as Langston Hughes, Lucille Clifton, and Colleen McElroy explore their cultural
heritage through hard hitting poetry.

The main observation readers could take from this poem is that the lower individual has to take care of
and pick up after the white man. It is even hinted at that the poems the mother chant rival the alleged
master of poetry s own works.
Colleen McElroy uses her poetry to describe her culture and heritage in a very historical manner.
McElroy s poetry is very different from Hughes and Clifton in the sense that she uses so many
references to her ancestors culture back in Africa. My memory floats down a long narrow hall, A
calabash of history. Grandpa stood high in Watusi shadows Where effigies of my ancestors are
captured in Beatle tunes, And crowns never touch Bantu heads. My past is a slender dancer reflected
briefly Like a leopard in fingers of fire. The future Dahomey is a house of 16 doors, the totem of
Burundi counts 17 warriors In reverse generations. While I cling to one stray Seminole. My thoughts
grow thin in the urge to travel beyond Grandma s tale. Of why cat fur id for kitten britches; Past the
wrought iron rail of first stairs In baby white shoes, To Ashanti mysteries and rituals. The use of
African language and the names of tribes paint a geographical image that readers can begin to follow.
Heritage is more than following the lineage of a people, the land in which they live is equally as
involved. This ethnic and topographical following of these people gives her Clifton s poetry the breath

How Does Insulation Affect Allergies
While you may not give much thought to it, your home s insulation may be what s affecting your
allergies. Dust mites, pet dander, mildew and molds are the main indoor allergens which can affect
you and your family year round inside of your home. Whether it s an old insulation system, poorly
installed insulation, or just the wrong insulation for your home, any one of these installation issues
could be the source of your itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, scratchy throat or cough. Let s
look at how insulation can affect your allergies.
The insulation in your walls and attics serve a number of functions, including to keep your home at a
consistent temperature that is ideal for preventing allergy flare ups. Insulation also serves as a barrier,
sealing the walls and cracks, where pollen and grasses can find their way into your home. In your attic
or crawl space, insulation prevents little critters, like squirrels, rats, mice, opossums, cockroaches or
bats from taking up residence in your home, where they can leave droppings that can trigger your
allergies. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma Immunology, saliva, feces and
shedding body parts of cockroaches acts like dust mites and can trigger allergies when they are kicked
up in the air. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Controversy Of Huckleberry Finn
Some literary critics agree with Ernest Hemingway that all modern American literature comes from
one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn... it s the best book we ve had. All American writing
comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since, (Hemingway).
While others feel that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn does not belong in the literary canon and
that it is itself literally incoherent (Jehlen). Unquestionably, it is now one of the most often debated
major work in American literature (Fertig). Although The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has caused
several controversies, one major debate is whether if it is racist or not.
Due to Twain s personal experiences and opposition of slavery, and his often ... Show more content on

Not only is the King selling Jim back into slavery cruel treatment in itself, but Twain portrays the
Phelpses as kind hearted, gentle Christians. Huckleberry mentions that Silas Phelps was the
innocentest, best old soul [he] ever see. But it warn t surprising; because [Silas] warn t only just a
farmer, he was a preacher, too and when his wife Sally Phelps sees Tom walking up to the house, who
she does not know is Tom, she does not hesitate to having him over and excitingly states, why, I do
believe it s a stranger... put on another plate for dinner (Twain 229). Even though they treat Jim better
than others have, they still treat him fit to their beliefs and keep him locked up in a shed since they
believe that it is right to own him as their property because the color of his skin makes him worth less
than a white person. The Phelpses are depicted as good, big hearted people even if they embrace the
South s institution of slavery. Tom Sawyer is actually harsher than the Phelpses, and decides to help
Huck free Jim. Unbeknownst to Huck and Jim, Jim s former owner actually passed away right after he
ran away so Jim has been free this whole time. There were multiple instances when the boys could
have set Jim free and all they had to do was to lift up the bedstead and slip off the chain to get him
freed, but Tom needed a lot of difficulties and dangers to free Jim

The Characteristics Of Jeronimo And The Revenger s Tragedy
He that will swear Jeronimo [...] the best plays yet, shall pass unexpected at here as a man whose
judgement shows it is constant, and hath stood still these five and twenty, or thirty years
Ben Jonson (Bartholmew Fair, 1614)
Jonson, ever caustic, made no bones about his disdain for sensationalist tragedies that catered to the
bloodlust of the groundlings, yet even such an inveterate critic as he, was forced to admit that these
melodramas had withstood the test of time. I would like to discuss two plays for this question
Jeronimo or Thomas Kyd s The Spanish Tragedy performed in 1587 or 1588 and Middleton s The
Revenger s Tragedy, a play that appeared almost at the end of the period entitled the golden age of
revenge tragedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both dramatists stick to the formula in that sense with Hieronimo and Vindice but also expend effort
in giving their protagonists, psychological depth, setting them apart from the one dimensional
avengers that one would expect from a formulaic play. Kyd carefully structures the process by which
Hieronimo, a tragic subject, comes into being, while in Vindice, that process has already taken place,
nine years ago. The frustrated fury of Hieronimo, a fury that arises in part from an inability to locate
justice in the universe, is depicted with understanding. For in revenge, he cries, my heart would find
relief. He is aware even before he carries out his vengeance, that it is the only act that will provide
some relief to his anguish. By contrast, in Vindice, Middleton creates a revenger with a past forgotten
by all but him. He is a figure that stays on the margins whether as Vindice or as Piato irony is central
to his manner and his view of life. His own sexual anxieties are evident, paradoxically enough,
especially in his test of Gratiana and Castiza and his exuberance and zest in his own actions are
reminiscent of a Volpone or Mosca. In the end though, both recognise the essential futility of their
actions even while acknowledging its inevitability. Tis time to die when we are ourselves our foes,
says Vindice, a phrase that beautifully captures the mental emptiness of revenge. Apart from the
protagonists, other characters too are finely sketched. Bel Imperia s character is an intriguing one she
is no uni dimensional puppet caught between a dynastic marriage and romantic love. It is clear that
she is far from being sexually innocent and in fact, the catalyst in Hieronimo s revenge. She has been
read in many different ways but what emerges at the end, is her strength of convictions and her desire
to control her own destiny. In The Revenger s Tragedy,

Physical Effects Of Child Abuse
In 2011, the Children s Bureau in Maryland reports that there are 676, 569 children were victims of
child abuse or neglect in that year. Although physical abuse is very apparent and extremely visible,
physical abuse can fade away but child neglect can have consequences on children that can last a
lifetime. It might take families and friends a while to take notice to a child that is suffering of neglect.
The effects of child abuse affect each child differently. While the effects of abuse can be severe and
long lasting, children who have been abused or exposed to violence can and go on to have healthy and
productive childhood and adult lives. It is important to notice that resilience and or protective factors
can cause a child to positively react ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many who have experienced child neglect and have not suffered from behavioral problems.
However, behavioral problems appears to be more likely among children who have been abused.
According to the NSCAW, more than half of the youth reported for abuse are at risk for a behavioral
problem. Child abuse and neglect appear to make it more likely for the child to suffer from difficulties
during adolescence, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality, alcohol and drug abuse, and abusive
behavior. NSCAW data show that more than half of youth with reports of maltreatment are at risk of
grade repetition, substance abuse, delinquency, truancy, or pregnancy. Other studies suggested that
abused or neglected children are more likely to engage in sexual risk taking as they reach adolescence,
thereby increasing their chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease . Many studies have
shown the connections between child abuse and future juvenile delinquency. Children who have
experienced abuse are nine times more likely to become involved with alcohol and other drug abuse.
Research consistently shows that children who have experienced abuse or neglect will smoke
cigarettes, abuse alcohol, or take drugs during their

Lee Harvey Oswald Was Not the Lone Assassin
Lee Harvey Oswald Was No Loner On November 22nd, 1963, President John F. Kennedy (JFK) was
shot and killed in a motorcade running through Dealy Plaza, in Dallas, Texas. Shortly after, a man by
the name of Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and charged with the murder of President Kennedy.
Over the years there has been much controversy over if Lee Harvey Oswald was in fact, the only man
involved in the assassination of JFK. The assassination is still a topic of debate to this day and has
spawned many conspiracy theories. At the time, there was little persuasive evidence to prove that
Oswald was involved in any sort of conspiracy to assassinate the president, but as time went on people
began to grow suspicious of certain things. In 1966, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Ruby claims to have murdered Oswald as revenge for killing President Kennedy, most
people believe it was part of a cover up for a much larger conspiracy. After Ruby s arrest, he was
sentenced to death, only to have his trials postponed and die of lung cancer shortly after postponing
the trial. While Oswald was in interrogation, he changed his story many times when asked routine
questions such as where were you at the time of the shooting , or explain to us what you did the day of
the assassination . He also denied any involvement in the incident even though there was evidence
against him. Oswald was bound to face further, more intense interrogation in the future, and this is the
reason most people believe that assassination of Oswald was to prevent him from talking about what
actually happened in the Kennedy assassination. There were also many strange reports of President
Kennedy s brain being switched from when it was seen in evidence, to when the autopsy was
performed. There were pictures of Kennedy s brain for evidence showing immense damage to the rear,
consistent with an exit wound and therefore evidence of a shot from the front. Meanwhile, the autopsy
brain did not nearly show the same amount of damage in the back of the brain, and an exit wound in
the front. Douglas Horne, the Record Review Board s chief analyst for military records said that he
was 90 95% certain that these brains were not

The Influence Of Beauty During The Heian Era
This period of Japanese history is notable by its visual impact. During the Heien era women had the
most influence upon the social aesthetics of society at the time. They dictated what was beautiful in all
things, including poetry, wardrobe, the arrangement of their homes and gardens. Such a profound
influence has continued to be important within Japan today, as many of the Heian precepts of beauty
are still considered the height of society today. Beauty, in all things, was considered of utmost
importance: in language, the written word, the spoken word, the costume, gardens, and in the very
essence of the culture. Mono no aware, a term coined in the 19th century by Motoori Norinaga in
regards to the Heian concept of beauty, best describes the Heian thoughts of beauty. Beauty is
precious, because it is brief (Hooker, 1999). The term aware during the Heian era represented
sensitivity to things ranging from beauty to sadness, life, love or death. In the letters, diaries, literature
and poetry, the fashion stands out and is the most obvious and most scrutinized aspect of Heian beauty
personified. While the men, too, had splendid robes to wear, their color options and individuality was
constrained by the sumptuary laws and their rank (Bryant, 2004). However, the women wore juni hitoe
(called karaginu mo, with formal court layers, which allowed a huge canvas upon which to express
their individuality and fashion sense. Moreover, for the women s clothing, the colors of the many

  • 2. Similarities Between Web Dubois And Booker T Washington Both Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois were radical men of their time, and each managed to have great contributions to the overall welfare of blacks. However, their methods for increasing black status differed greatly. While Booker T. Washington believed that respect for blacks would come gradually through education, WEB Dubois felt that black people should protest against their fate. Although Booker T. Washington s methods were appropriate in that past time, WEB Dubois had some good points that fit in more with modern society. Born a slave, Booker T. Washington was an educated man who gave his life to promote the education of blacks, and believed strongly that education was the first step to acceptance. Through his writings and speeches, Booker T. Washington showed his belief in the dignity of work. He was not wealthy, and saved pennies for his own schooling by sleeping under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Washington had similarities in their ideas. Both Washington and DuBois tended to blame Negroes themselves for their condition. They both placed emphasis on self help and moral improvement rather than on rights. They both also wanted African Americans to have the same rights as white Americans. WEB Dubois said The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, this longing to attain self conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self. In this merging he wishes neither of the older selves to be lost... He simply wishes to make it possible for a man to be both a Negro and an American... This shows that WEB Dubois is blaming the Negroes for their condition. In reaction, Booker T. Washington said The man who has learned to do something better than anyone else, has learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner, is the man who has a power and influence that no adverse circumstances can take from him . In this quote, Booker T. Washington is talking about that the Negroes have the power to change their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Abortion Report Essay examples Abortion Report I have chosen for my topic Abortion. I think that it is a topic that is very important in today s society however it is often dodged or avoided. Different Presidents say different things and have different stances about it, and often it is had to know what to think about it. Basically there are two different ways of looking at it: Pro Choice, which takes the stance of saying that it is the woman s choice if she wants to have an abortion and that it is only her business. So basically they want it to remain legal. Then there is the other stance of Pro Life which says that it should not remain legal and that it is just about as bad as cold blooded murder. I happen to agree with this. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several cases have been fought for the right to choose. Many of these have been hard cases but they stuck with it, and many people believe that that is why we have some of the rights we do today. Here are some important cases: 1. 1965 Griswold vs. Connecticut. Upheld the right to privacy and ended the ban on birth control. Eight years later, the Supreme Court ruled the right to privacy included abortions. 2. 1973 Roe vs. Wade. The state of Texas had outlawed abortions. The Supreme Court declared the law unconstitutional, bur refused to order an injunction against the state. On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court voted the right to privacy included abortions. 3. 1976 Planned Parenthood vs. Danforth. Ruled that requiring consent by the husband and the consent from a parent if a person was under 18 was unconstitutional. This case supported a woman s control over her own body and reproductive system. To conclude about Pro Choice I will state what Dana Pentoney has said: Abortion deals with one s private life and should have nothing to do with the government. However, abortion should not be used as a means of birth control, but if a fetus will be unwanted, it is better to be aborted than to be abused or neglected. Now onto Pro Life. This is what ... • 4. How Did The American Slave Trade Affect The West Indies When most people think of the West Indies, they mainly think of Jamaica, Barbados, and Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti), which also happen to be some of the most popular vacation areas. Yet, after a flight over to any of these hot spots, one would begin to notice the land is sprinkled with old sugar plantations, the countries and territories are heavily populated with African and Creole descendants, and there is a clear division between wealthy communities and their slum like counterparts. These characteristics were brought upon the West Indies through Sugar Trade, beginning roughly around the first English settlements in the 1620 s and living through the passing of the English Slave Trade Act on March 25, 1807. • 5. The Artist Of Brownstones By Jacob Lawrence Topic 1: Brownstones is a bit of abstract art depicting a group of what appear to be African Americans going about their lives on a busy street. This is a clear piece of the architecture that led to the swelling civil rights movement of the 50s. During the 1920s and 1930s, as a result of the combined forces of the Great Migration, the Depression, the Jazz Era, and the Harlem Renaissance, Harlem was transformed into a community with a unique identity. A sanctuary for African American art, this new cultural oasis enjoyed a sense of optimism in spite of economic difficulties. Like many writers and artists of his time, Jacob Lawrence, the artist of Brownstones, was inspired by the dynamic vitality of the Harlem community. One of the more interesting aspects of this is the communal response that was brought about by the Renaissance . Initially during the civil rights movement it was students who marched at the forefront, those with nothing to lose and everything to gain. However, over time the movement blossomed fully, and those from all walks of life stepped up to defend liberty. In the wake of the assassination of Martin Luther King, we as a nation(most of us anyway) stood as one against oppression and hatred. We fought the good fight, without weapons or blows, but with dollars, steps and words. It wasn t a war though. You don t win wars by dying for your country, you win by making the other guy die for his. This was a rebellion, two sides claimed they held the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After six months, she is still unable to return to work. She has no income from her job, and the insurance premium payments are financially burdensome. In this case Sonja has an ordinary life insurance with the waiver of premium attached so after six months all premiums would be waived if Sonja is totally disabled. He has rescued this aspect of Marxism from an almost total oblivion and by virtue of this theoretical action he has once again placed in our hands the key to a right understanding of Marxist method. For it is our task and this is the fundamental conviction underlying this book to understand the essence of Marx s method and to apply it correctly. In no sense do we aspire to improve on it. If on a number of occasions certain statements of Engels are made the object of a polemical attack this has been done, as every perceptive reader will observe, in the spirit of the system as a whole. On these particular points the author believes, rightly or wrongly, that he is defending orthodox Marxism against Engels himself. We adhere to Marx s doctrines, then, without making any attempt to diverge from them, to improve or correct them. The goal of these arguments is an interpretation, an exposition of Marx s theory as Marx understood it. Appraise the impact that the rise in networked society is having on different creative disciplines and identify some of the key trends, innovations, behaviours and emergent opportunities for creative disciplines. The term networked society describes the many different phenomena related to the social, political, economic and cultural changes caused by the increase in connected digital information. The recent James Bond film Skyfall included integration of the brands Aston Martin, Audi, Aurora, Caterpillar, CNN, Coca Cola Zero, Heineken, Jaguar, Range Rover, Royal Doulton, Sony, Scrabble and Omega amongst others. Integration has always been there, but is now on the increase. Filmmakers may be expected to increasingly work around these brands which will have to feature in the film, a practice which threatens artistic integrity. However with funding platform sites such as Kickstarter this can be kept to a minimum. Networked society is also having a positive impact on the creative discipline of dance, from first spark of an idea to when it is viewed by the public. • 9. Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to reflect and to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can be used by investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based on its relative level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability to distinguish products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in the actual economic market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the percentage of sales left over after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after calculating the ratio, shows us that from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin, they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015, telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on capital employed (ROCE) This is another profitability ratio that help us to measure how a company can generate profits from its capital employed by comparing net operating profit to capital employed. Investors are looking at this ratio to reflect on how efficiently a company uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing strategies. CTF s ROCE in 2014 was 16,46% while in 2015 they reported an ROCE that is 18,22% which suggest the company is performing worst in 2015, in terms of profitability. This can be down to poor cost control or more ineffective brand use in 2015. Gross profit margin It is used to assess the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of Cimabue s Virgin And Child Enthroned Cimabue created Virgin and Child Enthroned in about 1280, while Giotto di Bondone, an Italian painter and architect, created his Virgin and Child Enthroned between 1305 and 1310 (Stokstad Cothren, 548, 550). The two paintings have various similarities. However, the most obvious similarities are that both focus on Mary and the Child Jesus, are long and pentagon shaped, and include figures of angels and prophets. In addition, both paintings have a sort of Byzantine influence (Cimabue s painting more than Giotto s), including the golden backgrounds and the hierarchy of the figures ( The Ognissanti ). However, there are many noticeable differences between the paintings as well. In this discussion post, I will be focusing on three major differences: the portrayal of Mary; the positioning of Mary and Jesus; and the placement of the angels and prophets (including where the figures are looking). Before I begin discussing the specific differences between the two paintings, it is important to mention that the painting styles of Cimabue and Giotto differed significantly. Cimabue painted with a more Gothic and Byzantine style. His figures tended to be two dimensional and thus his paintings looked rather flat. He made his figures very elongated and stylised, which was common among Gothic and Byzantine artists at the time ( Biography of Giotto ). Giotto, on the other hand, while being slightly influenced by the Gothic and Byzantine style, largely deviated from the traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Reflection To Return To The Classroom Culture As A... Reaction to Ginott Quote The Ginott quote reminds me of my years as a preschool teacher. I had times that I was more inspiring than torturous, and times that were more miserable than joyous. Unfortunately, this same sediment echoed down the halls of the school. I was a requested teacher and I knew that I loved to work with kids, but I was having a hard time being trapped in a room with them for eight hours. I lacked knowledge and resources but fully understood the impact I had on the children in the class. I knew I had to leave and learn, before I did damage. The variation in the way that I viewed my position is one of the reasons I returned to school to continue my education. That was almost four years ago. Since then, I have completed my bachelors and am working on my masters. I plan to return to the classroom culture as an elementary school counselor. During my hiatus, there was a lot of time to reflect on things that I did well and things that I need to improve on. There are three areas within the Ginott quote that relate to areas of improvement: 1) personal approach, 2) daily mood, 3) escalate crisis. Personal Approach. According to Ginott, It is my personal approach that creates the climate (Hardin, 2013, p. 11 12). I was known for having extravagant themed lessons. Costumes were created, pictures where taken, and a lot of hard work went into planning and implementing these events. When I was excited to come to school the kids were excited to be ... This quote is from the famous football coach Vince Lombardi, and it doesn t matter whether you re a Green Bay Packer fan or a Chicago Bear fan. Everyone has to agree that Vince Lombardi knew about what it takes to be on a a team. Oxford s Online Dictionary defines the word team as, a group of people who compete in a sport, game, etc., against another group ( Team Definition ). Just like a family, a team learns and grows together. Winning or losing isn t as important as growing and improving. My father always says that in tennis you can learn more from your losses than your victories. This is true for life too. When your in a family, you learn so much from each other s failures. You learn what to do and what not to do. You also learn how to be there for each other when times get tough. This unites you as a family and brings you closer together. The same thing happens on a team. When I was younger, I swam for the Marlins Swim team. We practiced twice a day in the summer, and it was exhausting. Our coaches pushed us hard to get us ready for the Conference Meet against our biggest rivals, the Normal Parks and Rec Sharks and the team from Rob Knight. We all wanted to win so badly that we were willing to give up most of our summer break to do laps in the pool at 6:00am. One of the boys on our team had special needs, but he practiced hard just like anybody else. A common statement typically heard is don t go on your phone at night you won t be able to sleep and as we all know sleep is a really important part of our health. The reason being on our phones or any other form of device at night prevents us from sleeping is due to the bright colours and screen those then trick our brains into thinking it is still daylight so we don t feel as tired. Night by Elie Wiesel is a non fiction novella based on true events of the Holocaust. Wiesel reflects on how the ignorance of jews affected their time in the concentration camps. He also shines a light on how Elie s relationship with his father Shlomo, reveals little that is right with human nature. Elie acknowledges how the struggle of faith reveals to the viewer what is wrong with human nature. Night shows us how the Jews were awakened by their own ignorance. From the beginning the jews chose to be ignorant about the german soldiers entering their homes. They remained ignorant of Moche the Beetles stories. Mrs. Schachter even tried multiple times to explain to them what type of dangers were coming. The importance of the Smithsonian s Bearing Witness to History site as both a historical and American representation causes a divergence in its purpose, between its obligation for factual accuracy and intrinsic support of specific cultural values. Deepa Mehta s film Earth (1996) demonstrates the manipulation of texts to shape the meaning we derive from the past, influenced by our memory of the past, distorted by personal context. Where the Homeless Live in Canada While a vacant residence or commercial building may not be the best conditions for the average person to live in, it has become the norm for individuals that may prefer to live homeless and not follow the traditional lifestyle that is expected in society. The subculture groups known as squatters have taken a criminal offense of trespassing and have established a way of living that allows a homeless individual the rights to a residence without going through the process of legally purchasing a home. The question lies, why have these homeless individuals chosen to take residency in a nonconformist ways, how do they live in such penurious ways and is there method to their madness? Historically, squatters were recognized in Australia where they lived on a large area of Crown land in order to graze livestock. While originally they had no permissible right to the land, they gained its custom by inheriting the land by being the first Europeans in the area and not leaving the property. The idea of squatting in vacant residential and commercial buildings became popular all over the world for all ages, genders and races that a squatting community had been developed. The squatting community has tips and tricks that are known and passed on through word of mouth or by professional housing advocates. The true incidence of pyonephrosis with other renal infections has not been reported. However, the risk of pyonephrosis is increased in patients with upper urinary tract obstruction and with patients who are immunocompromised or antibiotics for a long period of time (Peterson, A. There are a number of different reasons for urinary tract obstruction. This can include pregnancy, cancer, fungus balls, ureterocele, ureteral strictures, tuberculosis and neurogenic bladder. (Chris, n.d.). There are a number of symptoms that should raise concern for pyonephrosis. This can include: flank pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, little or no urine and a weak and narrow urine stream. The symptoms of peritonitis, abdominal pain, tenderness, abdominal distension, diarrhea or constipation with the inability to pass gas may also be present. Sepsis is common in severe untreated cases, especially in immunocompromised patients. Apart from the other symptoms mentioned above, there may also be rapid heart rate and a rapid breathing rate in sepsis. When the mental status is altered and the blood pressure is very low, severe sepsis or septic shock has arisen and death is a very likely consequence (Chris, n.d.). Blood and urine tests are the main investigations to diagnose pyonephrosis along with the clinical presentation and the patient s medical history. When urine cannot be collected due to the obstruction, a sample has to be removed from the collecting system of the kidney. Blood tests can include a complete blood count (CBC), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine and a blood culture. Urine tests include a urinalysis and a urine culture. • 19. Essay on Racism in American History X American History X is clearly a film dealing with racism. The interesting thing about this film is the way in which the subject is treated. First of all, it is obvious that, though racism is always a difficult subject to deal with, American History X presents it without any reservations or dumming down. Second, the film s figurehead for racism, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), is not an unintelligent redneck racist as films often portray them, but is in fact well spoken, charismatic and intelligent, although he clearly holds ideals that are terribly wrong. Finally, the film shows that it is not just the white, neo nazi racists who are fools to be involved in this, but all racism is foolish. Through these methods, the film shows the viewer, ... Perhaps the most tragic scene of the film is also its most effective in delivering to the audience, the emotional destruction that racism can cause. When Danny at the end of the film is shot repeatedly by a black student he had previously pissed off, Derek runs into the school, finds his brother dead, and his life and the lives of his family are changed forever. What makes Derek such a powerful and frightening character is not the fact that he is racist, it is the fact that instead of choosing a somewhat regular, backwoods, unintelligent racist as the films central character, Derek is well spoken and bright. It is these qualities that allow him to recruit the youths of Venice Beach and form, with the help of his mentor Cameron Alexander, the entire white supremacist culture permeating the area. There has been constant back and forth on Iran getting a nuclear deal done with them saying they are only building for energy and others, including the United States (U.S.), believing they are trying to build nuclear weapons. If a deal is not completed and the U.S. has to take military action to stop the Iranian nuclear program, then the U.S. will have to concentrate on the major characteristics that define the Iranian culture, how those cultures interact in the joint, multinational, and interagency (JIIM) community, how the U.S. will concentrate on these cultures in the planning and execution of company level operations, and how Iran s ... Islamic restrictions on dress code and total veiling might have affected the appearance of women in public, but historical accounts of lavish marriages between Caliphs and their beautiful brides attest to the diversity of designs, colours and fabrics worn indoors (Price, Culture of Iran ). From this statement, you can see that the Iranian people believe that covering their women in public is very important but when it comes to fashion inside their home, their dresses and the fabric they use in their home can be very colorful. The personal rituals and celebrations in Iran have many ways but when you look how they look at life after death, you can tell how serious their culture is towards this area: Allah is the ultimate source of power. A Muslim s first duty is to submit to God s will, follow the rules, codes of conduct, and perform the prescribed rituals. For this reason purely ceremonial prescriptions, such as ablutions before prayer, are put on exactly the same level as commandments of an elevated moral value, such as that of honesty. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both dramatists stick to the formula in that sense with Hieronimo and Vindice but also expend effort in giving their protagonists, psychological depth, setting them apart from the one dimensional avengers that one would expect from a formulaic play. Kyd carefully structures the process by which Hieronimo, a tragic subject, comes into being, while in Vindice, that process has already taken place, nine years ago. The frustrated fury of Hieronimo, a fury that arises in part from an inability to locate justice in the universe, is depicted with understanding. For in revenge, he cries, my heart would find relief. He is aware even before he carries out his vengeance, that it is the only act that will provide some relief to his anguish. By contrast, in Vindice, Middleton creates a revenger with a past forgotten by all but him. He is a figure that stays on the margins whether as Vindice or as Piato irony is central to his manner and his view of life. His own sexual anxieties are evident, paradoxically enough, especially in his test of Gratiana and Castiza and his exuberance and zest in his own actions are reminiscent of a Volpone or Mosca. In the end though, both recognise the essential futility of their actions even while acknowledging its inevitability. Tis time to die when we are ourselves our foes, says Vindice, a phrase that beautifully captures the mental emptiness of revenge. Apart from the protagonists, other characters too are finely sketched. Bel Imperia s character is an intriguing one she is no uni dimensional puppet caught between a dynastic marriage and romantic love. It is clear that she is far from being sexually innocent and in fact, the catalyst in Hieronimo s revenge. While Oswald was in interrogation, he changed his story many times when asked routine questions such as where were you at the time of the shooting , or explain to us what you did the day of the assassination . He also denied any involvement in the incident even though there was evidence against him. • 47. The Influence Of Beauty During The Heian Era This period of Japanese history is notable by its visual impact. During the Heien era women had the most influence upon the social aesthetics of society at the time. They dictated what was beautiful in all things, including poetry, wardrobe, the arrangement of their homes and gardens. Such a profound influence has continued to be important within Japan today, as many of the Heian precepts of beauty are still considered the height of society today. Beauty, in all things, was considered of utmost importance: in language, the written word, the spoken word, the costume, gardens, and in the very essence of the culture. Mono no aware, a term coined in the 19th century by Motoori Norinaga in regards to the Heian concept of beauty, best describes the Heian thoughts of beauty. Beauty is precious, because it is brief (Hooker, 1999). The term aware during the Heian era represented sensitivity to things ranging from beauty to sadness, life, love or death. In the letters, diaries, literature and poetry, the fashion stands out and is the most obvious and most scrutinized aspect of Heian beauty personified. While the men, too, had splendid robes to wear, their color options and individuality was constrained by the sumptuary laws and their rank (Bryant, 2004).
