The Apple Tv Essay
I ve possessed each Apple TV that has been discharged. I trust era one I bought a year after discharge
and it had a 40GB physical hard drive and you could match up substance to it by means of iTunes over
the system or you could stream substance to it by means of the system. The sync usefulness was
somewhat unbalanced. The Apple TV basically acted like a major iPod. It had a 40GB and 160GB
form and was essentially Apple s Front Row programming in a gadget that had Component/HDMI
ports. Apple TV required a HDTV which truly just implied a 16:9 perspective proportion 720P set.
These weren t difficult to find yet they were absolutely pricier than we have today. I can t consider
anybody that matched up motion pictures to their Apple TV and after that unplugged the case to bring
it with them on an outing. The likelihood of the Apple TV wasn t generally a major draw. I for the
most part appreciated the capacity to watch content that I had in iTunes on my TV set. The second era
Apple TV was littler because of the absence of a hard drive and it moved to a spilling from iTunes
model over watching content put away on the Apple TV itself. it likewise picked up the capacity for
clients to lease movies or purchase content from the Apple TV however it was restricted to 720P
substance most likely because of handling force. I purchased a third Generation Apple TV to supplant
my second era which was an excruciating period in light of the fact that the fundamental offering

Robert Boyle Research Paper
Robert Boyle, born January, 25 1627 was an Irish born natural philosopher and chemist. Boyle is
known for being the first modern chemist, and best known for his law Boyle s law. This law describes
the relationship between pressure and volume of gas, within a constant closed system of temperature.
Robert s life of scientific research took place when he joined a band of enquirers or the Invisible
College , which devoted themselves to new philosophy. The relationship between pressure and volume
that Robert Boyle studied was first noted by two scientists Richard Towneley and Henry Power.
Robert Boyle just confirmed their studies and published it first taking credit for it and is named after
the law. In Boyle s experiment to see how pressure and volume were connected, Boyle used a J shaped
piece of glass tubing that was sealed on one end, gas was trapped in the sealed end of the tube and
fluctuating amounts of mercury were added to the J shaped tube to vary the pressure of the system.
Boyle fluctuated the pressure and measured the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These measurement was done by using a fixed amount of gas and a constant pressure and temperature.
This way Boyle was able to examine the pressure volume relationship without problems from other
factors such as changes in temperature or amount of gas.
This is the data analysis that supports Boyle s experiment. When the volume pressure data has been
found, the next task is to determine the precise relationship between the two properties. Even though a
large number of relationships are possible, the most likely possibility is that the volume will relate to
the pressure raised to some random power

The Politics of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp
The Politics of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp
Guantanamo Bay, also known as Gitmo, is a United States Detention Camp located in the
Guantanamo Naval Base in South Eastern Cuba. The United States gained control of the Guantanamo
Bay area in the 1903 Cuban American treaty in which the United States gained the right to control the
Cuban territory while at the same time recognizing the Cuban state sovereignty (Nofi, 112). In the
year 1970, the United States began to use part of the Guantanamo Naval Base as a detention camp for
Cubans and Haitians that were caught in the high sea trying to get into the United States illegally
(Gott, 78). However, the detention camp later became a political tool, which politicians used for their

In the year 2004, Cuban diplomats accused the United States government for contriving the
international law by denying the prisoners in the Guantanamo Bay the right to challenge their
detention through legal action. The diplomats said that the U.S. government had to try the
Guantanamo Bay prisoners, or repatriate them to their home countries where they would be tried. For
this reason, the Cuba diplomats called for a UN investigation into Guantanamo Bay to find out if
rights were being violated. After the investigation, in 2007, the United States gave out a report in
which they said that the US violated the international law especially the provision on the international
covenant on civil and political rights (Bravin, 97 98).
In the year 2006, the United Nations unsuccessfully called for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay
Detention Camp (Bravin, 65). In response to the accusations made against the United States for
violating the rights of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners, former President Bush responded to his critics
by saying that the United States was not obligated to grant constitutional rights to the prisoners in
Guantanamo Bay because, Guantanamo Bay Prison is located outside the United States. Bush also
said that the United States had not violated any provision of the Geneva Convention since the Geneva

Bobbie Ann Mason Research Paper
Southern writer Bobbie Ann Mason was born on May 1, 1940 in Mayfield, Kentucky to her parents
Wilburn and Christina Mason along with her four other siblings. It was when she was still a child that
her interest in writing emerged and she began writing stories influenced by children s mystery novels
(Bobbie Ann Mason). These works would continue to influence her writing even in her later years.
Bobbie Ann Mason is still alive today, and is approaching her older years of life, but she still publishes
work, and travels around doing book reading and signings (Bobbie Ann Mason). Her entire life has
been dedicated to writing, she attended school for it, pursued a teaching career in it, and dedicated
herself full time as a writer (Bobbie Ann Mason). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her criticism of Mason and comparison of these three stylistically different writers, she is quoted on
an important aspect of the meaning of their, and especially Mason s, stories, Why do we read novels
and short stories? For pleasure; for instruction; for the solace of seeing others in familiar dilemmas;
for the opportunity to see what is unfamiliar, perhaps strange; for hope. These writers, in different
ways, satisfy these requirements. (Becker). Not only does she raise incredible praise for these writers,
she also gives us an opportunity to see how Mason s writing fits into the other writers of her time. She
shows us what the purpose of the short story is in Mason s world, for hope (Becker). Mason in
particular inspires this hope because although she is introducing her readers to the characters of rural
Kentucky, change is something that, on some level, every reader can relate to and understand
(Becker). This idea of understanding can even be compared and seen throughout the criticisms of
character presentation by Michiko Kakutani, who has an appreciation for the way she lays out her
characters to her audience, and the commentary by Robert Newman on how she relates to her readers
through her characters. The way these two appreciate Bobbie Ann Mason s character development is
the same way that Robin Becker appreciates how she presents the story itself to her

The Tell-Tale Heart Confession
Have you ever had urge to confess something that bothered you so much that it led you to insanity?
Probably not, but most americans have had this issue in that past. The narrator in The Tell Tale Heart
had the same exact same problem during his span as a butler. The Tell Tale Heart is a short story
composed about a butler that murders his master because he didn t liked the way his master s eye
looked when it was open. The meaning of the title The Tell Tale Heart , means that every heart has a
tale to tell. At the ending of the story the narrator openly admits that he killed his master to police
officers because he claims that he could hear the heartbeat of his deceased corrs. The narrator
confessed his crime for three reasons which were: he was insane, he could not deal with the heartbeat,
and he wanted to noise to go away. The first reason for the narrators confession was insane. Edgar
Allan Poe quotes I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity (Poe). Poe means by this
quote that things that he saw in the world while he was not crazy mad him insane. After the police
came into the the narrators master s, the narrator began chatting with them while standing on top of
the floorboards where he hid his master s body. The narrator began to hear the heartbeat of the dead
body while he was talking to the police officers. The officers began to laugh loudly with each other
and the narrator thought they were mocking him because he thought they knew about the murder

discovered that the iceberg s effects were positive. The icebergs had created spaces for weedy species.
They found a greater increase of diversity of marine life, as long as the ice scouring was not so

Frank Norris Research Paper
Frank Norris Late 19th Century Novelist and Writer in the Progressive Era After reading the works of
Frank Norris, one might wonder what drove him to become a writer. It could have been simply that as
a child he often dreamed of becoming a world renowned author, or it could have been that writing
helped him escape from the real world , and it was a comfort zone for him. Frank Norris grew up as
the world would see a normal child , but what he did in his career path was not the normal for the
average human being. He was a writer with a knowledgeable attitude and a dedicated personality that
enabled him to succeed in his early life, to produce many notable works, and to leave a long lasting

Dependent Personality Disorder Research Paper
Dependent Personality Disorder
And How it can Affect your Daily Life
Everyone has personality traits. Some people are shy while others are outgoing and some people are
optimistic and some are pessimistic. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a personality
trait and a disorder. Personality disorders are diagnosed when ways of seeing, interpreting, or
behaving in the world become inflexible and maladaptive. A personality disorder causes distress to
self or others. A person with a personality disorder has trouble perceiving and relating to situations and
to people. This causes significant problems and limitations in relationships, social encounters, work
and school (Personality 2015).
When diagnosing a patient, it is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cluster A personality disorders are characterized by odd, eccentric thinking or behavior. Paranoid
personality disorder would fit under Cluster A. Cluster B is the wild cluster. People with these
disorders have very dramatic, emotional or erratic behaviors. Cluster C personality disorders are
characterized by anxious, fearful thinking or behavior. This cluster includes dependent personality
disorder (Personality 2015).
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders.
The terrifying fear of being left alone and being abandoned are both signs of DPD. When faced with
this disorder you really cling to other people, usually a significant other. You get self satisfaction by
being wanted by another person. Fourteen percent of people with personality disorders are diagnosed
with DPD (Ekern 2013).
The causes of dependent personality disorder to this day are unknown. Both biological and
developmental factors are most likely involved (Dependent 2015). There are multiple speculations as
to why people obtain this disorder like overprotective parenting. Also, one s social environment can
play a role in DPD. In all most all cases the patient experiencing DPD has faced some sort of abuse or
trauma, making them stick to another person (Ekern

Drug Testing In Sports Essay
A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The
temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However
drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often
missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance
enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16
amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes consume some
sort of dietary supplement that has no evident effect on performance enhancement, for example, a
simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same production line as a
prohibited substance. An unpublished survey revealed that 93% of elite New Zealand athletes had
ingested at least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when drug testing is
definite. The line between supplement use and an actual performance enhancing drugs ... Show more

So in conclusion, collaboration from organisations world wide is needed to fund research projects, to
advance the methods and technologies used in drug testing, to ensure that sport is a fair and safe
environment. New Zealand athletes publically exposing cheating are bullied by opposing athletes and
media. Programs are urgently needed to be put in place in countries that encourage performance
enhancing drug use, to educate young athletes of the danger of doping. Stricter regulations on health
and supplement industry, should be enforced on the multi billion dollar companies, whereby they have
to prove the safety of their product. These issues need to be addressed by WADA (World Anti doping
Agency) urgently. Overall these actions will minimise the disadvantages faced by New Zealand and

The 20th century was an era of innovation and notable achievements in man s pursuit to break the
bonds of earth s gravity. In this span of time man went from struggling to make human flight a reality
to setting foot on the surface of the moon. The initial endeavor, to launch mankind beyond the
stratosphere, began mid way through the century with 2 nations competing for the right to plant their
flag on the surface of the moon. The lunar space race gave birth to national aerospace organizations,
such as NASA, and inspired dreamers all over the globe for generations. NASA and other aerospace

Numerous players have begun to materialize in the field of private space travel. This emerging market
could be the key to success as NASA now set its sights, beyond the moon, towards neighboring
planets. Government outsourcing to the private sector isn t a novel idea; however, in this case
innovations in engineering and manufacturing have introduced new opportunities for governments and
companies alike. SpaceX is one private company vying for an opportunity to assume the task of
delivering astronauts and supplies to the ISS. SpaceX is currently at the forefront of lowering the cost
of space travel by developing reusable rocket technology. Mike Chafkin, senior writer at INC
magazine, reports SpaceX charges $50 million to launch a satellite, less than half the going rate. (83).
Such a substantial reduction in overall cost would enable organizations like NASA to reorganize
spending towards the research and development of new studies and technologies. Private enterprise
may not lead the way to discovering new celestial bodies but independent companies excel at
improving efficiency and value. Companies competing for government contracts have developed cost
effective techniques and materials to edge out the opposition. James Clay Moltz, professor at the

Introduction 1.1 Research problem Harry Markowitz is one of the founders of the theory of finance,
the fastest growing economic sciences. This lays the foundation for the applied financial management
in a company, using the tools and methods of investigation with a help of which any company can
analyze its financial position, to assess the value of its capital and its structure, to select the best
investment project and to manage it or to decide how and how many shares or bonds to issue.
Markowitz s approach to the problem of portfolio selection suggests that the investor tries to solve two
problems: to maximize the expected return at a given level of risk or minimize uncertainty (risk) at a
given level of expected return. Therefore, the aim of this course work review the Markowitz portfolio
allocation theory as a way of creating the optimal and efficient investment portfolio and highlight its
importance in modern world. This paper tries to answer two fundamental questions: first, what is the
main idea behind Markowitz allocation theory, and the second, how valid is Markowitz theory

Fate In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Ultimately, the Mariner is set free from his initial torment by retelling his story to those individuals,
who are in need of hearing it. Through the act of making terrible decisions, the Mariner along with his
crew, embark on a dangerous path; a dangerous path that sets foot in the scenery of the Antarctic
Ocean. On what was supposed to be a normal sailing day, the weather seemed to turn against them.
From the combination of the ice cracking to massive gusts of wind, the stage appeared as a life or
death situation. In the midst of this occurring, an albatross a legendary bird arrives and tries to head
the ship away from the uncontrollable conditions. Therefore, the albatross was considered a good luck
charm by the crew members. Unfortunately, from the Mariner s lack of judgment, he finalizes this
luck by killing the albatross. Through a series of events, the crew continuously blames the Mariner for
all the catastrophes that occur to them after the bird s death. In fact, in The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner , the text further illustrates this cause and effect situation by stating that instead of the cross,
the Albatross was hung on the Mariner s neck (Coleridge, part II). This brief statement depicts how the
Mariner would be held responsible for every parch and every glazed eye (Coleridge, part III) that
follows his crew. These statements are vividly effective in analyzing the severity of the situation. His
crew members are so upset with him that they came together

Tortilla Sun Character Analysis
Many people today have their own ideas and thoughts, these thoughts and ideas produce multiple
points of view. These points of view can clash and lead people to disagree with each other. This is
shown in the fictional passages Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez, and Tortilla Sun by Jennifer Cervantes.
The main character in Confetti Girl disagree with her father on multiple topics. From her english class,
to her misunderstanding her father s main intentions. However, Izzy from Tortilla Sun experiences the
same misunderstanding with her mother. Both of these characters have their own point of views and
their own misunderstanding of their parents. Many emotions are expressed from both characters,

There would be tensions created between Izzy and her mother, Izzy sees her mother as leaving for
herself, but however her mother is leaving so she could be able to finish her studies and research.
Which could of course lead her to better job opportunities for Izzy s mother and a more successful
future for Izzy. Because of Izzy s misunderstanding, there is tension created between the both of them.
This is shown in paragraph 34. Izzy replies with Opportunity? For me? Or for you? . This shows that
Izzy is unclear of the opportunities they both will receive if her mother goes out to finish her research.
This of course leads to tension created between both of the characters. Another way this is shown is in
paragraph 45. The text shows I think you re going to like the village. Her voice became muffled now,
like her mouth was pressed right up the against the door, (Paragraph 45). This part of paragraph 45
show how the tension between the 2 characters lead to them having conflicts that are draining and
saddening. The difference in the point of view from Izzy and her mother create this tension. This
shows that Izzy misunderstands her mother and because of this, tension is created between the both of
them. These misunderstanding leads to both of the characters not seeing eye to an eye. Which leads to
many conflicts throughout both

The Awakening Reflection
In Kate Chopin s The Awakening, the protagonist Edna Pontellier learns to think of herself as an
autonomous human being and rebels against social norms by leaving her husband Leónce and having
an affair. The first half of the novel takes place in Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana.
Over the summer it is inhabited by upper class Creole families from New Orleans who go there to
escape from the heat and to relax by the ocean. During the week, the women and children stay on the
island, while the men return to the city to work.
During the summer, Edna Pontellier meets a young gallant named Robert Lebrun, whose mother rents
out the cottages on the island. The two spend almost all their time together, and Edna greatly enjoys
his company, especially since her husband is generally preoccupied with business. Due to Robert s
constant presence, Edna starts to experience a change within herself: she begins to develop a sense of
herself as a whole person, with unique wants, interests, and desires. She realizes that she is not content
to be simply a wife and a mother, and she begins to assert herself to her husband.
Edna s moments of self discovery are closely tied to the ocean. At her great moment of awakening,
she suddenly learns how to swim, after being frustrated in her efforts before. She and Robert also
spend a lot of time in and near the ocean. One day they take a spontaneous day trip to another island in
a boat, and Edna undergoes a metaphorical rebirth when she falls

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Essay
Henrietta Lacks is not a common household name, yet in the scientific and medical world it has
become one of the most important and talked names of the century. Up until the time that this book
was written, very few people knew of Henrietta Lacks and how her cells contributed to modern
science, but Rebecca Skloot aimed to change this. Eventually Skloot was able to reach Henrietta s
remaining family and through them she was able to tell the story of not only the importance of the
HeLa cells but also Henrietta s life. Although she was taken from the world too soon, Henrietta Lacks

Then it was transferred to George Gey s lab, where they would cultivate it and attempt to grow new

within days, sometimes even hours. Henrietta s cells changed this, after multiple days of being
cultivated and still living, Gey began to realize that he had discovered something amazing, and he
slowly started to share his discovery with the world. When the cells finally began growing in Gey s
lab it was seen as a huge advance in the world of science, seeing as no one had succeeded beforehand,
this was a great accomplishment on his part. However, Henrietta was never told of this or how
important her cells had become, she simply continued living without knowing that the cancerous cells
inside her were continuing to grow despite receiving treatment from the doctors. Her only treatment
was a small patch of radiation sewn directly into her cervix on the area where the tumor had appeared,
after some tests showed that the tumor had disappeared she continued with her normal life of farming,
raising her children, and enjoying life. Henrietta never complained about any side effects of the

Reed Supermarkets: A New Wave of Competitors
*Exhibits discussed in the following report refer to the exhibits in the Reed Supermarkets Case Study.
Question #1: After careful deliberation and analysis of the Reed Supermarkets case, the marketing
team has concluded that Mr. Jack Morrissey s goal of attaining a market sales share of 16% as being
achievable. It is important to note that market sales share is calculated in terms of dollar sales
(revenue) generated as opposed to the quantity (amount) of items sold, with respect to the entire
market. Reed currently has a market sales share of 14% in Columbus with 25 stores in the surrounding
area. Ultimately, the team has elected to attain the additional 2% of market sales share by focusing ...

The notion of our concept is to change the ways in which prices are perceived by customers while
maintaining the same quality products. The goal here is to offer products that are a bit more expensive
but within the dollar range from our competitors. More specifically, for a same sized item sold at the
dollar store, Reed will be charging a higher price for our product, but within a one dollar range. For
the same product in a smaller size than the dollar store item, Reed will be charging the same price. To
illustrate this point, take for instance, a 300 mL ketchup bottle sold at the dollar store for $1. That
same product will be sold at Reed for $1.30 or alternatively, $1.00 for a 200 mL bottle. Another
adjustment Reed can adopt is to price products in a way that the tens decimal place is moved down. So
instead of charging the regular $2.25, we can charge $2.19 before taxes. The figures vary slightly and
are fairly hard to detect. As a result, the price differences become negligible and easy to for customers
to disregard.
A third strategy is the increase in product varieties and introduction of new items with different
features. Also recommended is the use of reference pricing, or the fair price consumers expect to pay.
If ketchup prices are generally deemed to hover around $2.00 for a 300 mL bottle, the

Alice Walker Beauty
Achieving Beauty
In Alice Walker s Beauty When the Other Dancer is the self , Walker comes to terms with her
childhood accident through examples of gender power, racial discrimination, and selfish violence.
Alice Walker has three main memories she recalls inside and explains in the essay. The first being her
connection and relationship with her father and her family. Her accident involves her brothers
shooting her in the eye using new BB guns given by the parents. There is a tree growing from
underneath the porch that climbs past the railing to the roof. It is the last thing my right eye sees. As

I abuse my eye. I rant and rave at it, in front of the mirror. I plead with it to clear up before morning
(Walker 30 33). After being shot in the eye, Walker cannot determine that the incident was an accident
or done deliberately in order to damage her physical looks so her father would not pick her anymore.
She went through a surgery to improve the appearance of her eye that she started to find self courage
and acceptance. When Walker feels beautiful once more, and her view upon life improves
dramatically in almost every aspect: Give examples. Alice begins to keep her head held high, she
starts to talk more and attains the boyfriend of her dreams, she excels in school once more and
generally feels more self confident. I feel that beauty has this universal definition to society and the
expectation that it must be met to achieve internal and external happiness. Society has a stereotype of
beauty itself. Society believes that beauty has a universal definition which every person experiences.
What Walker is trying to put forward is that beauty can come in different forms and meanings. Walker
pursues the societal norm that different configurations of beauty must be achieved to attain internal
and external happiness. These including the need to feel welcomed by others, the need to experience
true happiness and feel needed, the need to feel self worthy and loved, and the aspiration to feel
confident in one s skin. This is what Alice Walker faces and it is this misconception she experiences

Kristen Springer US History Mrs. McGinnis 1/7/15 Captains or Robbers Homework A Robber Baron
was a derogatory term used to describe powerful American business owners in the mid 1800 s; they
usually took advantage of their power in order to gain wealth. In addition, they looked down upon

railroads, oil, steel, etc. They used this industrial power to gain higher political rank, and ultimately
they used their wealth to better themselves. In contrast, The Captains of Industry was a term used to

Explanation of Shakepeare s Sonnet 147
Love is a Disease: An Explication of Sonnet 147 Love is a disease. Desire is deadly. When one thinks
about Shakespeare s sonnets, the instinctual response is the thought of romance. For instance the
adoring lines, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day/ Thou are more lovely and more temperate
(Sonnet 18, 1 2), are thought to be the most famous words from a Shakespearean sonnet. However,
instead of describing love in a starry eyed fashion, Shakespeare discusses the punitive characteristics
of love in Sonnet 147. The persona describes love as an infectious illness caused by sexual appetites.
The persona s mind knows better than to indulge his appetite, but he does not listen to his logic. He
begins the sonnet by stating the primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the personification of reason, this metaphor gives the word desire greater importance. This aids
in the quatrain s main dispute of reason versus desire. Desire is death , is a harsh and straightforward
metaphor. The persona expresses that desire is what causes the toxic disease. The use of punctuation
also isolates the words desire and reason to show their importance to the quatrain. My reason, (5) is
followed by a comma. When the reader says this out loud, it forces the reader to pause where the coma
is. In doing so, the word reason is separate from the rest of the sentence and emphasized. The comma
also creates a visual separation that creates emphasis. In the same way, Desire is death, (8), is also
followed by a comma. The same emphasis applies here, which strengthens the quatrains conflict of
reason versus desire. In the third quatrain, the persona expresses that he is hopeless. His sexual
appetite cannot be cured. He is now angry, and like a madman tells lies due to his detrimental sexual
desires. This quatrain portrays the conflict between desire and the cure. Desire has overcome the cure
and the persona is now hopeless of overcoming this disease. In the first line, Shakespeare introduces
the meaning of the quatrain, Past cure I am, now reason is past care (9).

Swimming Events Within The World
Introduction: Today, swimming is very much an enjoyable activity as a form of recreation, exercise, or
physical therapy, as well as a disciplined competitive sport. Early Swimming: In the olden days,
swimming was basically an exercise, seen as a life skill, and therefore, people would commence
controlled coaching. However, swimming races took place in Japan as early because the 1st century
BC, and swimming was a mandatory part of the college curriculum in Imperial Japan (Britannica,
2005).Also, there were organized swimming events within the 19th century before Japan was opened
to the Western world. The history of swimming dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece and even to
Chinese eras. Rather than swimming as the current sport, swimming was used as a means to catch fish
and shellfish, using diving. The paintings and sculptures from 9 thousand years ago in the ancient
Hellenic Republic (Greece), show evidence that swimming was really used. The first time swimming
within the history of in Japan was documented, is the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki and also the Japanese
deity Mikoto for the purification ceremony. Swimming as a martial art within the Edo era, developed
as a technique to swim to suit every region of Japan. The Japan stroke has also been established (

The Bell Jar Essay
The Bell Jar
People s lives are shaped through their success and failure in their personal relationships with each
other. The author Sylvia Plath demonstrates this in the novel, The Bell Jar. This is the direct result of
the loss of support from a loved one, the lack of support and encouragement, and lack of self
confidence and insecurity in Esther s life in the The Bell Jar. It was shaped through her success and
failures in her personal relationships between others and herself.
Through life, we often lose someone we loved and cared deeply for and supported us through life.

In framework and talk, you develop behavior patterns and priorities and define framework in terms
and languages. Esther did all this in her life. But then she forgot who she was. She forgot her
framework of reference and she talks about success and failures and despair.
Individuals, need encouragement and support from loves ones to guide one through life. This is seen
in the lack of support and encouragement displayed when Esther s mother fails to support and
encourage Esther with her aspirations. No matter what Esther had wanted to do with her life, her
Mother had always wanted her to learn the skills of shorthand because she would always have that
skill in her life and also that was the one thing her Mother had experienced in life. As a result, her
Mother failed to enhance Esther with her aspirations that she wanted from life.
We need the sustenance and assurance from not only loved ones in life, but also from others. This is
demonstrated when Jay Cee, Esther s present boss asked Esther what she wanted to do with her life.
Esther did not have any solid idea as to what she wanted to do with her life. You ll never get anywhere

Crispin, who is declared a fugitive by the steward of his village. He runs away and is hunted by the

dies, he is so upset that he runs into the woods. There he accidentally overhears a stranger and John
Aycliffe the village steward discussing a great danger. They see Crispin and attempt to kill him, but he
runs away. Crispin goes to the village priest and finds out that he has been declared a wolf s head ,
which means that anyone can kill him as if he is a wild animal. The priest gives Crispin a cross of lead
that his mother owned. He tells Crispin that his mother could read and write, and that she wrote the

Evolution Of Barbie s Embodiment Of Pop Culture
The evolution of Barbie has been an interesting one. The doll has sparked countless debates, yet has
continued to be a defining icon for children for countless years, and will probably be so for many

society and current fashions that have transfixed the world over time. Barbie is a tangible embodiment
of pop culture throughout the years, she has managed to become popular and stay popular, because she

Latina Barbie, both of which were not released until 1980, twenty years after the first Barbie was
released. This year the newly released 2016 Barbie Fashionistas are available in four body types,
seven skin tones and 22 eye colours addressing long time criticism that the dolls did not accurately
reflect the modern woman. This change means more representation for women of colour, more
representation of a normal female body type, teaching young girls that white is not default and
anorexia is not beautiful. This links back to the much needed change in social thinking and the
popularity of healthy lifestyles and colour representation in 2016. Barbie has begun to represent
women outside the thin, white, blonde archetype and represent women as a diverse set of individuals,
appealing to a wider range of consumes and the new trend in pop culture. Barbie has reinforced pop
culture over time as she has managed to change in response to the opinions of society, whether or not

C. Wright Mills Sociological Imagination
Exploring C. Wright Mills sociological imagination
Introduction
Many sociologists believe that good sociology has to examine both the structure of a society and
social interaction between individuals. It is only by combining the study of the major changes in a
society and in individuals lives that one can form an understanding of social life (Haralambos,
Holborn, Heald, 2000). People have an irresistible need to explain behaviour, to find the causes of an
individual s actions, and therefore make it seem orderly and predictable (Abell, Myers, Sani, 2014).
Furthermore, sociologists share the aim of expanding this need for an explanation to the social world
as a whole, even if their perspectives and approaches differ. They believe that ... Show more content

In a marriage the spouses may experience personal troubles, but should the divorce rates within a
certain amount of years into marriage rise, it indicates a structural issue in the institutions of marriage,
and thus becomes a public issue.
Conclusion
According to Mills, sociology should be about examining the biography of an individual in a wider
context of history of societies (Mills, 2000). Sociologists must consider the major institutions of
society, not only the personal situation and character of a range of individuals. Sociological
imagination allows us to grasp history and biography, examine them together and separately, and their
relation in a society. But sociological imagination is not merely an alternative approach for
sociologists to play with: it is important to all members of society should they wish to understand,
change and improve, not only their lives, but the society in which they live in (Haralambos, Holborn,
Heald, 2000). It can be argued that the sociological imagination is crucial in controlling the risks and
grasping the potential found in modern societies, and thus giving us an opportunity to improve people

The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes
distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between
property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this
book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human
affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she
wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with
Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together
to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her
encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt
developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped
by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many
philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this
idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Hannah Arendt was
struck by Cal Marx s picture of individuality which was devoted to production and consumption. For
Arendt this is a revealing representation of modern society in which economic concerns have come

Sports Function Of The New Zealand
Just recently I have met a lot of new people here at Catawba College, and I have met people with
different backgrounds, culture, norms, etc. I have already learned a lot from my new friend, Olivia
from New Zealand. Whether it was trying a piece of gum back from her hometown or talking about
the pronunciation of words and new phrases, I ve learned that we have lived two very different lives
due to differences in our cultures. Kiwis (New Zealanders) consider sports to be crucial in their
country. Sports function in a very similar way in New Zealand as to the way they do here in America.
New Zealand is located in the South Western Pacific Ocean, just south of Australia. New Zealand has
been its country since the late 19th century. The country has governed itself since the year of 1853.
There are several different sports that America is not very familiar with. For example, in New
Zealand, Netball is a very popular women s sport. Netball, presumably the largest women s team sport
in the country, with approximately 137,000 registered players and 400,000 playing recreationally or at
a secondary school. Netball is one of the preliminary forms of basketball emerging in the 19th century.
The most similar sport in America that we have to Netball is Basketball.
Although when compared, netball and basketball can appear to be very different in style and play,
there are more similarities than one may realize. In netball, you have two nets just like in basketball.
You also play on a

Unions And The Freedom Of Collective Bargaining
Right to Work provides no rights and no work ...It s purpose is to destroy labor unions and the
freedom of collective bargaining (Martin Luther King). The roots of labor unions in the United States
dates back to the late 18th Century, when skilled craftsmen joined forces against low product prices.
Since then, labor unions have been practical to both the economy and the people which it employes. It
has allowed laborers to make great strides in the protection of rights in their work. It has also
increased wages, causing a strengthening of the middle class. Because of the benefits to the workers,
an increase in wages, making a stronger middle class , and its historic success for the economy in
struggling times , unionization is generally a better option than non unionization. The essential reason
why unions exist is for the benefits of its workers. Throughout the history of the United States labor
unions have been created to protect the working class from harsh conditions and low wages. For
example, the American Federation of Labor (AFL) formed to lobby to raise the workers wages, and
improve the conditions in which they worked. But more important in the long run was the permanent
stamp that the AFL made on the American labour movement...and the objective of trade unionism
became exclusively the incremental achievement of higher wages and better working conditions
(Organized Labour). During and after the Industrial Revolution, as portrayed in The Jungle

more allegiance to football teams than they have to Great Britain . What does national identity and
multiculturalism mean to a society.

adopted by others to create and contribute a better society. Where every culture learns the best from

The cons of being a multicultural society is prejudice and that individuals bring the society different
experiences that can profoundly shape the society. Prejudice can harm any society and especially a
vulnerable society, where historical events can affect people s view of other who are united.
There isn t any single definition of belonging to a national identity. Every single individual must
decide which core values as they emphasize most importantly. The best way to integrate immigrants
successfully is to be tolerant and respectful for other races and cultures. It is the keyword to integrate
successfully. The benefits of being a multicultural society is greater than the disadvantages. A
multicultural society is more unique than a homogeneous society, where everyone looks similar. It s
much more special and eventful to be a part of a multicultural society. In multicultural societies have

I trust era one I bought a year after discharge and it had a 40GB physical hard drive and you could match up substance to it by means of iTunes over the system or you could stream substance to it by means of the system. The sync usefulness was somewhat unbalanced. The Apple TV basically acted like a major iPod. It had a 40GB and 160GB form and was essentially Apple s Front Row programming in a gadget that had Component/HDMI ports. Apple TV required a HDTV which truly just implied a 16:9 perspective proportion 720P set. These weren t difficult to find yet they were absolutely pricier than we have today. I can t consider anybody that matched up motion pictures to their Apple TV and after that unplugged the case to bring it with them on an outing. The likelihood of the Apple TV wasn t generally a major draw. I for the most part appreciated the capacity to watch content that I had in iTunes on my TV set. The second era Apple TV was littler because of the absence of a hard drive and it moved to a spilling from iTunes model over watching content put away on the Apple TV itself. it likewise picked up the capacity for clients to lease movies or purchase content from the Apple TV however it was restricted to 720P substance most likely because of handling force. I purchased a third Generation Apple TV to supplant my second era which was an excruciating period in light of the fact that the fundamental offering purpose of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Robert Boyle Research Paper Robert Boyle, born January, 25 1627 was an Irish born natural philosopher and chemist. Boyle is known for being the first modern chemist, and best known for his law Boyle s law. This law describes the relationship between pressure and volume of gas, within a constant closed system of temperature. Robert s life of scientific research took place when he joined a band of enquirers or the Invisible College , which devoted themselves to new philosophy. The relationship between pressure and volume that Robert Boyle studied was first noted by two scientists Richard Towneley and Henry Power. Robert Boyle just confirmed their studies and published it first taking credit for it and is named after the law. In Boyle s experiment to see how pressure and volume were connected, Boyle used a J shaped piece of glass tubing that was sealed on one end, gas was trapped in the sealed end of the tube and fluctuating amounts of mercury were added to the J shaped tube to vary the pressure of the system. Boyle fluctuated the pressure and measured the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These measurement was done by using a fixed amount of gas and a constant pressure and temperature. This way Boyle was able to examine the pressure volume relationship without problems from other factors such as changes in temperature or amount of gas. This is the data analysis that supports Boyle s experiment. When the volume pressure data has been found, the next task is to determine the precise relationship between the two properties. Even though a large number of relationships are possible, the most likely possibility is that the volume will relate to the pressure raised to some random power V = CBL P ... The Politics of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp The Politics of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp Guantanamo Bay, also known as Gitmo, is a United States Detention Camp located in the Guantanamo Naval Base in South Eastern Cuba. The United States gained control of the Guantanamo Bay area in the 1903 Cuban American treaty in which the United States gained the right to control the Cuban territory while at the same time recognizing the Cuban state sovereignty (Nofi, 112). In the year 1970, the United States began to use part of the Guantanamo Naval Base as a detention camp for Cubans and Haitians that were caught in the high sea trying to get into the United States illegally (Gott, 78). However, the detention camp later became a political tool, which politicians used for their selfish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the year 2004, Cuban diplomats accused the United States government for contriving the international law by denying the prisoners in the Guantanamo Bay the right to challenge their detention through legal action. The diplomats said that the U.S. government had to try the Guantanamo Bay prisoners, or repatriate them to their home countries where they would be tried. For this reason, the Cuba diplomats called for a UN investigation into Guantanamo Bay to find out if rights were being violated. After the investigation, in 2007, the United States gave out a report in which they said that the US violated the international law especially the provision on the international covenant on civil and political rights (Bravin, 97 98). In the year 2006, the United Nations unsuccessfully called for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp (Bravin, 65). In response to the accusations made against the United States for violating the rights of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners, former President Bush responded to his critics by saying that the United States was not obligated to grant constitutional rights to the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay because, Guantanamo Bay Prison is located outside the United States. • 5. Bobbie Ann Mason Research Paper Southern writer Bobbie Ann Mason was born on May 1, 1940 in Mayfield, Kentucky to her parents Wilburn and Christina Mason along with her four other siblings. It was when she was still a child that her interest in writing emerged and she began writing stories influenced by children s mystery novels (Bobbie Ann Mason). These works would continue to influence her writing even in her later years. Bobbie Ann Mason is still alive today, and is approaching her older years of life, but she still publishes work, and travels around doing book reading and signings (Bobbie Ann Mason). Her entire life has been dedicated to writing, she attended school for it, pursued a teaching career in it, and dedicated herself full time as a writer (Bobbie Ann Mason). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her criticism of Mason and comparison of these three stylistically different writers, she is quoted on an important aspect of the meaning of their, and especially Mason s, stories, Why do we read novels and short stories? For pleasure; for instruction; for the solace of seeing others in familiar dilemmas; for the opportunity to see what is unfamiliar, perhaps strange; for hope. These writers, in different ways, satisfy these requirements. (Becker). Not only does she raise incredible praise for these writers, she also gives us an opportunity to see how Mason s writing fits into the other writers of her time. She shows us what the purpose of the short story is in Mason s world, for hope (Becker). Mason in particular inspires this hope because although she is introducing her readers to the characters of rural Kentucky, change is something that, on some level, every reader can relate to and understand (Becker). This idea of understanding can even be compared and seen throughout the criticisms of character presentation by Michiko Kakutani, who has an appreciation for the way she lays out her characters to her audience, and the commentary by Robert Newman on how she relates to her readers through her characters. The way these two appreciate Bobbie Ann Mason s character development is the same way that Robin Becker appreciates how she presents the story itself to her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Drug Testing In Sports Essay A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16 amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes consume some sort of dietary supplement that has no evident effect on performance enhancement, for example, a simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same production line as a prohibited substance. Through the act of making terrible decisions, the Mariner along with his crew, embark on a dangerous path; a dangerous path that sets foot in the scenery of the Antarctic Ocean. On what was supposed to be a normal sailing day, the weather seemed to turn against them. From the combination of the ice cracking to massive gusts of wind, the stage appeared as a life or death situation. In the midst of this occurring, an albatross a legendary bird arrives and tries to head the ship away from the uncontrollable conditions. Therefore, the albatross was considered a good luck charm by the crew members. Unfortunately, from the Mariner s lack of judgment, he finalizes this luck by killing the albatross. Through a series of events, the crew continuously blames the Mariner for all the catastrophes that occur to them after the bird s death. In fact, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner , the text further illustrates this cause and effect situation by stating that instead of the cross, the Albatross was hung on the Mariner s neck (Coleridge, part II). This brief statement depicts how the Mariner would be held responsible for every parch and every glazed eye (Coleridge, part III) that follows his crew. The Awakening Reflection In Kate Chopin s The Awakening, the protagonist Edna Pontellier learns to think of herself as an autonomous human being and rebels against social norms by leaving her husband Leónce and having an affair. The first half of the novel takes place in Grand Isle, an island off the coast of Louisiana. Over the summer it is inhabited by upper class Creole families from New Orleans who go there to escape from the heat and to relax by the ocean. During the week, the women and children stay on the island, while the men return to the city to work. During the summer, Edna Pontellier meets a young gallant named Robert Lebrun, whose mother rents out the cottages on the island. The two spend almost all their time together, and Edna greatly enjoys his company, especially since her husband is generally preoccupied with business. Due to Robert s constant presence, Edna starts to experience a change within herself: she begins to develop a sense of herself as a whole person, with unique wants, interests, and desires. She realizes that she is not content to be simply a wife and a mother, and she begins to assert herself to her husband. Edna s moments of self discovery are closely tied to the ocean. At her great moment of awakening, she suddenly learns how to swim, after being frustrated in her efforts before. She and Robert also spend a lot of time in and near the ocean. One day they take a spontaneous day trip to another island in a boat, and Edna undergoes a metaphorical rebirth when she falls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Up until the time that this book was written, very few people knew of Henrietta Lacks and how her cells contributed to modern science, but Rebecca Skloot aimed to change this. Eventually Skloot was able to reach Henrietta s remaining family and through them she was able to tell the story of not only the importance of the HeLa cells but also Henrietta s life. When the cells finally began growing in Gey s lab it was seen as a huge advance in the world of science, seeing as no one had succeeded beforehand, this was a great accomplishment on his part. However, Henrietta was never told of this or how important her cells had become, she simply continued living without knowing that the cancerous cells inside her were continuing to grow despite receiving treatment from the doctors. Her only treatment was a small patch of radiation sewn directly into her cervix on the area where the tumor had appeared, after some tests showed that the tumor had disappeared she continued with her normal life of farming, raising her children, and enjoying life. Question #1: After careful deliberation and analysis of the Reed Supermarkets case, the marketing team has concluded that Mr. Jack Morrissey s goal of attaining a market sales share of 16% as being achievable. It is important to note that market sales share is calculated in terms of dollar sales (revenue) generated as opposed to the quantity (amount) of items sold, with respect to the entire market. The goal here is to offer products that are a bit more expensive but within the dollar range from our competitors. More specifically, for a same sized item sold at the dollar store, Reed will be charging a higher price for our product, but within a one dollar range. For the same product in a smaller size than the dollar store item, Reed will be charging the same price. To illustrate this point, take for instance, a 300 mL ketchup bottle sold at the dollar store for $1. That same product will be sold at Reed for $1.30 or alternatively, $1.00 for a 200 mL bottle. Another adjustment Reed can adopt is to price products in a way that the tens decimal place is moved down. So instead of charging the regular $2.25, we can charge $2.19 before taxes. The figures vary slightly and are fairly hard to detect. As a result, the price differences become negligible and easy to for customers to disregard. A third strategy is the increase in product varieties and introduction of new items with different features. Also recommended is the use of reference pricing, or the fair price consumers expect to pay. If ketchup prices are generally deemed to hover around $2.00 for a 300 mL bottle, the ... When one thinks about Shakespeare s sonnets, the instinctual response is the thought of romance. For instance the adoring lines, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day/ Thou are more lovely and more temperate (Sonnet 18, 1 2), are thought to be the most famous words from a Shakespearean sonnet. However, instead of describing love in a starry eyed fashion, Shakespeare discusses the punitive characteristics of love in Sonnet 147. This aids in the quatrain s main dispute of reason versus desire. Desire is death , is a harsh and straightforward metaphor. The persona expresses that desire is what causes the toxic disease. The use of punctuation also isolates the words desire and reason to show their importance to the quatrain. My reason, (5) is followed by a comma. When the reader says this out loud, it forces the reader to pause where the coma is. In doing so, the word reason is separate from the rest of the sentence and emphasized. The comma also creates a visual separation that creates emphasis. In the same way, Desire is death, (8), is also followed by a comma. The same emphasis applies here, which strengthens the quatrains conflict of reason versus desire. In the third quatrain, the persona expresses that he is hopeless. His sexual appetite cannot be cured. He is now angry, and like a madman tells lies due to his detrimental sexual desires. This quatrain portrays the conflict between desire and the cure. • 33. C. Wright Mills Sociological Imagination Exploring C. Wright Mills sociological imagination Introduction Many sociologists believe that good sociology has to examine both the structure of a society and social interaction between individuals. It is only by combining the study of the major changes in a society and in individuals lives that one can form an understanding of social life (Haralambos, Holborn, Heald, 2000). People have an irresistible need to explain behaviour, to find the causes of an individual s actions, and therefore make it seem orderly and predictable (Abell, Myers, Sani, 2014). Furthermore, sociologists share the aim of expanding this need for an explanation to the social world as a whole, even if their perspectives and approaches differ. They believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a marriage the spouses may experience personal troubles, but should the divorce rates within a certain amount of years into marriage rise, it indicates a structural issue in the institutions of marriage, and thus becomes a public issue. Sociologists must consider the major institutions of society, not only the personal situation and character of a range of individuals. Sociological imagination allows us to grasp history and biography, examine them together and separately, and their relation in a society. But sociological imagination is not merely an alternative approach for sociologists to play with: it is important to all members of society should they wish to understand, change and improve, not only their lives, but the society in which they live in (Haralambos, Holborn, Heald, 2000). Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4).
