The Hewlett-Packard Company, commonly called as HP, is an American
multinational information technology company headquartered in Palo Alto,
California. They mainly develop personal computers, hardware
components like printers, as well as software related services to consumers
of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) large enterprises, including
customers in the government, health, and education sectors.
3. HISTORY
• Bill Hewlett and David Packard
graduated with degrees in electrical
engineering from Stanford University in
1935.
• The company started in a garage in Palo
Alto during a fellowship they had with
past professor.
• In 1938, Packard and Hewlett began
part-time work in a rented garage with
an initial capital investment of $ 538.
6. SPLIT UP OF COMPANY
• On November 2, 2015, Hewlett-Packard split into HP Inc. (HPQ) and
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
• During the split up period the shares HP Inc.’s rose by 13% while share of
Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s fell by 1.6%
• The split was announced as part of the company’s five-year plan to turn
around its business, which has been hit by the emergence of cloud
technology and continued softness in PC (personal computer) shipments.
• HP Inc will focus on PCs and printers while Hewlett Packard Enterprise or
HPE, will focus on servers, storage, the cloud, networking, services, and
software.
• Both the company now serves as a separate legal entity.
