Schematic Diagram For Izod And Charpy Impact Test
Izod and Charpy Impact Test Impact: The instant force or shock that is applied over a body when
another body collide with it for a short period of time is known as impact. Impact test: These test
are basically used to study the mechanical properties of materials as the result of impact produced
by instant high loading. The purpose of these test is to measure the ability of a material to absorb
energy as the result of the instant loading. This energy leads to further study of mechanical
properties (toughness, impact strength, fracture resistance, impact resistance etc.). Furthermore
these properties help in the selection of material for different applications. Types of Impact Test
There are three types of impact test that are commonly used... Show more content on

The standard size of the specimen is 10mm X 10mm X 55mm. Types of notch: V notch is a V
shaped notch of depth 2mm, 0.25mm base and 45 angled. U notch is a key hole type notch of
5mm depth, 1mm radius at the base of notch Procedure Take a specimen as describe above. Now
fixe the specimen from both ends at the base. Set free the striker, it will strike the specimen
immediately behind a machined notch. Use the resultant energy (obtained by material failure) for
further calculations. Breaking energy: The amount of energy absorbed by the specimen when it
breaks is known as breaking energy. It is related to the height from which the load strikes the
specimen. This energy calculations are same for both Izod and Charpy test. It is usually written
as: E = mg (h0 hf) This breaking energy leads to further studies of properties of a material such as
impact resistance, toughness etc. Impact energy (Breaking energy) vs Temperature When a graph
is plotted between impact energy and temperature the resulting curve shows a rapid decrease in
energy as the temperature decreases. A very sharp drop in energy can be used to evaluate the
transition temperature Factors effecting Izod and Charpy impact energy Yield strength and

I Robot Research Paper
The three laws, Law I: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human
being to come to harm. Law II: A robot must obey orders given by human beings except where
such orders would conflict with the First Law. Law III: A robot must protect its own existence as
long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. This is the very essence of
I, Robot(2004) by Alex Proyas a world created to co exist with robots. Man made robots which
signifies the result of a creative and innovative fast paced world full of greed and consumption.
What appears as utopia is really a dystopia and not unlike the world we live in today. Just because

Detective spooner describes it perfectly when he talks to the robot named Sonny who s
programmed to have free will and true human emotion which is beyond the three laws. Sonny states
I have dreams. And Spooner implies. Humans have dreams, even dogs have dreams, but not you.
You are just a machine, imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a
canvas into a beautiful masterpiece? (2004). Human have the ability to create, to build things, to
bring things to life. But our creativity can be dangerous if we don t use it in a constructive
manner. Doctor Lanning built a robot that breaks the thee laws . This society is so easy to
believe that there is no possibility of a malfunction or error much less lack in the idea that the
humans who created these advancements have the capability to expand beyond their creation.
Whether laws are in place or not, humans have the natural ability to produce error. If we create
something it too has the ability of error because of the abilities of its creator. This society places an
abundance of trust in their robots that they ignore the fact that their development has taken from
human jobs, human qualities and abilities to function independently. Likewise, our world today is
leading into a far advanced technological state. But our creative minds might not know what we are
really getting into and are we prepared if everything goes haywire? In I robot Dr. Lanning created a
system called VIKI, Virtual Interactive Kinaesthetic Interface used by USR robotic company. VIKI
is a super computer that controls all NS5 robots. However, VIKI malfunctions and becomes too
concerned about human safety that she programs killer robots to wipe out humanity as a logical
means of saving humans from destroying themselves. To protect humanity, some humans must be
sacrificed. To insure your future, some freedoms must be

Faith In Conspiracy Theories
What if we didn t really land on the moon and Abraham Lincoln was a time traveling extra
terrestrial who profited from the war in Iraq. Some conspiracy theories are far out and some are
surprisingly believable, but it s interesting how easy it is to get so involved in them that one doesn
t know what or whom to trust anymore. In the dictionary, conspiracy is defined as, a secret plan by
a group to do something unlawful or harmful. People have faith in conspiracy theoriesbecause they
find a certain comfort in knowing that they cannot be proven wrong (or correct), and humans need

The Answer And La Respuesta Analysis
Although The Answer/ La Respuesta: Including Sor Filotea s Letter and New Selected Poems
(English and Spanish Edition.) and The Golden Ass emerge from very different cultural
contexts, they share a key similarities in their treatment of desire as the most legitimate object
of desire and love as figuring as far less significant in relative importance. Though the desire are
two different kinds. The desire is the thirst for knowledge in the book, The Answer/ La
Respuesta: Including Sor Filotea s Letter and New Selected Poems (English and Spanish
Edition.). In The Answer, Sor Juana writes the whole letter to suppose her desire for knowledge,

The authors writes many different kinds literatures, some literatures are about exploring the
world for unknown things, and some literatures are about showing some people s mind. But the
essence of these different kinds literatures are the same that it is people s desire to learn and
know the world. In Apuleius The Golden Ass, Lucius shows very interesting after he hears the
story about the magic from these two travelers, Already on tenterhooks, then, as I said, in my
hopes and my enthusiasms all at once, I went about sticking my nose into everything I saw,
detail by detail. (The Golden Ass 2:1), and his desire for the unknown power, the magic, push
him to get the feeling trip of the magic in his further life in the book. So Lucius story is the
exploring the world for unknown things. In The Answer/ La Respuesta: Including Sor Filotea s
Letter and New Selected Poems (English and Spanish Edition.), this book is about Sor Juana s
mind, she is very lovely to learn knowledge and she hits back at her church in the literature of
disapproval, she embodies the ideological fight for women s liberation, the requirements of
gender equality. Although both The Answer/ La Respuesta: Including Sor Filotea s Letter and
New Selected Poems (English and Spanish Edition.) and The Golden Ass, both of the authors use
desire to be the base for their literatures to push the stories developing, especially at the points
those can decide the story could be long or short. At the beginning of Apuleius s The Golden Ass,
when Lucius turns in ass, he has many choices to eat fresh flower to help him turn back in the
human, but Lucius s desire for unknown magic stops himself and to watch what can happen in the
further. In Sor Juana s literature, she has the choice to stay in palace and keep far away from the
church that against her mind because at 17th century people don t like women learning knowledge.
So both of the two literatures, The Answer/ La

Thailand s Political Peasants Book Review
Thailand s Political Peasants book by Andrew Walker is a must read for people who would like to
dive into learning more about the political status in modern rural Thailand. In his book, Walker
argues that in order to understand the governance of Thailand s middle income peasantry including
its fruitful electoral corroboration for Thaksin s populist policies, the political passions that brought
the red shirts to Bangkok, and the electoral thrive of Yingluck Shinawatra it is irresistible to
address how savvy is exposed in a framework of rising income standards and a transformed
relationship by the state. This book is written to question the underlying political, cultural, and
economic processes that assist Thailand s current contests over... Show more content on

As Walker puts it, the forces of socioeconomic modernization that grow disparity further increase
the capability and fluency of suburban political opinion. For Walker, such a quandary of uneven
development is the root problem of the contemporary political tension in Thailand. They anticipate
that the state will invigorate its efforts to raise the value of suburban livelihoods, cut back
inequality, and extend secure savings when experimental engagements with private budget fail.
Urban rural linkages not only supported the happening of modification, promoted slick forms of
disbursement, and blurred spatial distinctions, but also enabled suburban dwellers to compare their
disadvantages with wealthy social populations. Income inconsistency has caused dissatisfaction
among peasants, who have endorsed a stable share of the benefits of economic development. The
2006 elite backed coup executed the relationship between Thaksin and rural political society.
However, Bangkok elites and intellectuals condemned the impropriety of Thaksin and the electorate
that had voted him into power. The adequate household in Bangkok is approximately three times
higher than in the suburban northeast and the north. Walker has pointed out that discrimination in
Thailand is not the output of exuberance extraction by prevailing elites. As

Health Insurance Career
My current goal in my career is to become a licensed health insurance agent. I ve spent the last 13
years in the health care industry. I reached a point in my life where I want to do something that I
would enjoy doing, and feel that I am making a difference. My past positons were Claims
Adjudicator, Senior Appeals Resolution Analyst, and my current position is a Network
Operations Representative. All these positions have equipped me to be able to service the
population in a different capacity. I m currently working what I like to call my plan . The past few

To remain competitive and operational most insurance agencies are relying on mobile devices,
social media and rethinking how they conduct business to remain relevant. Depending on whether
you are in house agent, or field agent you will have the advantage of using your computer, phone,
tablet to process applications. In the past agents would have to carry paper applications with
them when visiting a prospective client. Modern technology is changing and applications can
be processed electronically at your fingertips. Most insurance companies are shifting from point
of sale system to a web based solution. This change will allow independent agents access into the
policy pricing system to give the most accurate pricing information. Insurance agencies are also
looking to change explanation of benefits to make it more user friendly for customers (Baseline
Magazine). Insurance Agent is only the beginning once I get the position it opens the door to
other career opportunities to pursue. With the proper training and exposure, I will be able to
possibly expand to become an independent broker that would allow me to become my own boss.
With any plan there will be ups and downs but the key is to stay focus, and keep moving until I
reach my goal. I am partially there and it only a matter of time until I will fulfill my

Holden Caulfield Hypocrite
In J.D. Salinger s novel titled, The Catcher in the Rye the main character named Holden
Caulfield tells us about his life adventures after he got expelled from his previous high school,
Pencey. Caulfield learns many things from his adventures and learns important life lessons. You
see, Holden is a complex character who exhibits many traits. For one, Holden is a hypocrite; he
believes one thing when he really does not. For example, he preaches that people should be
themselves and not be phony but yet he fakes his name most of the time and tries to be someone
he is not. Although Holden is a hypocrite, he stands up for his morals, and he is very empathetic.
Holden cares for others, even though it might seem as if he does not. Holden is quite remarkable
because he is willing to do anything if it means that he gets to stand up for what he believes in.
He is also a remarkable person due to the fact that he learns from his past and tries not to make the
same mistakes again. You see,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, his opinion on sex is that it is dangerous, promiscuous, and it should not be shown
or spoken to the innocence. Yet, during half of the book he tries to lose his virginity to various
people. Another example might be Holden s red hunting hat. Holden says that he bought the
hunting hat to stand out: I put on this hat that I d bought in New York that morning. It was this
red hunting hat, with one of those very, very long peaks....The way I wore it, I swung the old
peak way around to the back very corny, I ll admit, but I liked it that way. I looked good in it that
way (Salinger 21). Although, he always tries to lose the hat when he is in crowds, indicating that
he is a bit self conscious of himself even though he tries to make himself stand out. Holden does
not like phonies because they are foolish and immature. Yet again, he is foolish and immature
himself. For these reasons, Holden is indeed a

Stress Definition
What is stress?
My definition of stress is the unforeseen, surprising response of the brain, to pleasant and
bothersome stimuli. Selye (1936) identifies stress to be recognized by all, but nobody
comprehends what it is. All of us have been exposed to stress; however, each one of us interprets
stress differently, and our coping strategies vary from individual to individual. As a matter of fact,
some people get motivated with stress, and it enhances both mental and physical performances
while others succumb to depression and serious medical predicaments.
According to Psych Central (n.d.), stress is the body s means to defends itself when faced with a
threat; as a result, certain hormones are released into the blood stream to protect us from ... Show

To point out, I thrive on a moderate amount of stress. I view it as a challenge to be motivated, to
work harder, think smarter and understand things more thoroughly. Being resilient in the face of
adversity is always my mantra in life. Flinchbaugh, Luth, Li (2015, p. 325) implied that stressful
episodes can generate both positive and adverse effects on life s fulfillment. By the same token,
Boswell, Olson Buchanan, LePine (2004, p. 168) asserts that challenge stressor is described as
difficult tasks that can improve a person s expertise, comprehension, and abilities.
To manage the burden of stress, I adopted a reasonable number of sound strategies that helped me,
to be less reactive and more understanding of these stressful conditions. These strategies are as
follows: First and the most important of all is prayer, Shapiro (2014) stated the following serenity
prayer: God, grant me the serenity to endure the things I cannot correct, the strength to improve the
things I can, and the understanding to know the difference. Prayer gives me a sense of tranquility
and humility. I practice this strategy as a self reflection tool to slow down my thought process and
quiet my

The Consequences Of Bonnie And Clyde
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were two of the most notorious criminals of the 1930 s. Known
for robbery, murder and kidnapping the two spent most of their criminal career hiding and running
from law enforcement. They encountered many different people on the run, some of which became
accomplice s others became victims. The movie Bonnie and Clydeis a basic interpretation of the
events that led up to the gruesome killings of the couple.
It started January 5th, 1930 when Bonnie and Clyde first met at a mutual friend s house
(Browder). At the time of their fateful meeting, Bonnie was already married to Roy Thornton,
who was at the time serving a five year sentence in prison (Strickland). They grew close in a
short period of time and soon later Clyde was arrested on charges of burglary and went to jail. A
short time later, by smuggling Clyde a gun in his jail cell, Bonnie helped him escape. However,
it was not long after that he was arrested again, he went back to jail and was sentenced to two
years. However, he only remained there for several months until he was released on general
parole because of his mothers pleading with the governor (Guinn). Ironically just before he was to
be released, a fellow convict in the same facility was asked by Clyde to chop of two of his toes in
order to escape the difficult work detail. (Mcgasko). By 1932, Bonnie and Clyde were together
again and began their crime spree not long after. Clyde, Bonnie, and a few others started to rob small

The Emotions Of The Brain Impacted By Emotions
An emotion is described as, a conscious mental reaction subjectively experienced as a strong
feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and
behavioral changes in the body (Merriam Webster, n.d.). Strong feelings of emotion, such as anger,
love, fear, joy, hate, etc., impact parts of the brain, both positively and negatively, and how an
individual learns.
In regards to the parts of the brain impacted by emotions, the limbic system is made of six different
parts. First, the almond shaped amygdala, is located in the medial temporal lobe, handles intense
emotional responses, such as aggression or fear, and is very important in emotional learning.
Secondly, is the hippocampus. The hippocampus also is located in the medial temporal lobe, is a
structure where short term memories are formed and, plays a role in emotions and memory. The
third part of the brain impacted by emotions is the pre frontal cortex that is located near the front of
the head. It is involved in decision making in response to emotions. The fourth is the hypothalamus.
This structure is located in the diencephalon, feeds information into the amygdala, and acts as a
regulator of emotion. The hypothalamus controls sexual desire, pleasure, aggression, and anger. The
cingulated gyrus is the fifth part of the brain impacted by emotions. An important part of the limbic
system, the cingulate gyrus helps regulate emotions and pain. The cingulate gyrus is thought

To Build A Fire Conscience

Investigation of Conscience and Man s Psych in To Build A Fire The underlying themes of
morality and importance of conscience in a time of desperation and trouble are intertwined in Jack
London s work To Build A Fire. The idea of instinct over intellect plays a huge role in this
naturalistic story, but perhaps the greater influence in the story is the power of morality in the final
breaths of life. Through the parallelism of existentialism and humanism, the battle with religious sin
that makes us human, the unveiling of the American dream in context to man s wants, and man s
final judgment, London weaves a story of survival that explores the persona of man in the midst of

American freedom and individuality have often been expressed in, and celebrated by stories of
exploration, adventure, enterprise, and the pursuit of gain: the conquest of the prairie, the settling
of the West, the taming of the wilderness, the gold rush, and the mastery of nature through science,
industry, and technology (Bjorkland 3). Jack London s story offers us a picture of one such fortune
hunting, rugged individual. London took part in the Klondike gold rush, and though he failed as a
miner, he struck gold with stories drawing on the places and people he encountered during those
hope filled and brutal times in the Northwest Territory. In To Build A Fire, the man s passion to
explore and make a better life for himself was destroyed by the ultimate fate of nature. Jim Cullen
explores the meaning of the American Dream, or rather the several American Dreams that have
both reflected and shaped American identity from the Pilgrims to the present in his book, The
American Dream. Cullen notes that the United States, unlike most other nations, defines itself not
on the facts of blood, religion, language, geography, or shared history, but on a set of ideals
expressed in the Declaration of Independence and consolidated in the Constitution (Cullen 19). At
the core of these ideals lies the ambiguous concept of the American Dream, a concept that for better

Liberal, John Ikenberry And The American Liberal World Order
In Liberal Leviathan John Ikenberry argues that the American led liberal hegemonic order has
reached a major shift in its authority within the liberal order. In the last two chapters of the book,
Ikenberry argues that the era of unipolar hegemony for the United States is ending, and that it will
eventually have to re negotiate its balance of power with other emerging states. Critics believe that
the American liberal world order is no longer serving its original purpose, and is becoming a more
imperial order that is beginning to disintegrate. Ikenberry also highlights that there are many states
that could rival the overall hegemonyof the United States. Overall the last two chapters of the book
argue that the United States needs to consider taking a new pathway so that the liberal order can
accurately serve its role for the challenges ahead. Ikenberry argues that there are many dilemmas
within the organization of the international world order. The liberal order is defined by its
openness and its rule based order. Order is maintained in these institutions when states agree to
follow the rules set by these institutions. The liberal order has sought to establish its rules in a non
biased system that will not discriminate other states, so that the entire institution can agree on these
regulations. However, this has raised many serious dilemmas . There seems to be concern of how
the balance of power operates. Ikenberry argues that the international order has been put into place

have heard stories about women going against society to gain equal rights and we have read about
woman with extraordinary character that pursued the history of this world. One of these women is
Abigail Adams, the only womanso far to be both wife and mother of a president. Sadly, however,
Abigail Adams by Janet
Whitney is far from being a biography of her life. Janet Whitney arranges her material in

The majority of the information the author used were from letters and diaries and biographies of
other important historical figures such as
John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, and Thomas Hutchinson. Most of the biography
was filled with quotes from first hand sources as the diary of Thomas Jefferson and letters
written by John Adams. The quotes mostly described the setting of the time period rather than
the important details. For example, it described the physical appearances of Abigail and John
Adams and described the major and minor details of the houses and towns they lived in. The
author did an excellent job at giving the reader a window into the time in which Abigail Adams
lived. The historical documents used as a reference for the writing of this biography were
constantly quotes to give us a visual as to what events were taking place. The author wrote pages
describing a single certain event. Janet Whitney would not only quote from her first hand sources,
but she would describe and explain the quote as well to prevent any confusion. For example, Janet
Whitney quotes in the biography, The flame is kindled and like lightning it catches from soul to

They have come into their lives and turned it upside down all because of how they can be the

military is not that strong and they would be able to defeat them. For example, America has a
stronger militant group than Isis and Isis will probably try to test us to see if they can succeed
with America as well. They are disastrous because of what they think they can accomplish. In the
book Khalaf states, In my cell I grew nervous. Would Zeyad want to pleasure himself him self
with a woman again after the battle? I couldn t for the life of me imagine that in my current state
I could appear attractive to him. I was filthy, badly injured, and barely able to move. But I wasn t
able to put up a fight, either. Khalf is stating in this paragraph how disastrous Isis is. This
demonstrates why Isis is disastrous because of how they treat women and how they use them as
sex objects. This line is important because it shows the reader how abusive and dangerous Isis
soldiers are. They are also disastrous because degrading women is not even considered in their
minds. Isis soldiers take away their virginity and they don t respect a woman s honor to her family

Smart planning and using green technologies can reduce the impact that urbanization and
growing populations puts on the Bay. Pervious paving surfaces reduce the amount of runoff
going into the Bay. There are many benefits to using pervious concrete, these benefits are
achieved with the use of an innovative design. Pervious pavement, also referred to as porous or
permeable pavement, is actually a system consisting of an open graded surface layer of concrete,
asphalt, or pavers, typically placed over an open graded aggregate base layer. The pavement
structure has a large percentage of void spaces allowing water to permeate through the surface and
base at a rate comparable to that of a grass lawn (Broviak). Strict stormwater control measures have
recently been passed in states surrounding the Chesapeake s watershed, including Maryland, and
many require a certain amount of green space or use of green technologies in construction. In
addition to the growing use of pervious pavement techniques, other types of stormwater
management techniques are gaining popularity. In a thesis paper from University of Maryland,
Wilson discusses alternative ways to engineer for the Bay; By using technologies such as cisterns,
green roofs, and constructed wetlands, the built environment can be designed to decrease our need
for expensive water purifying infrastructure and preserve the health of fragile estuary ecosystems
such as the Chesapeake Bay. Rain gardens are a viable alternative to storm drains to deal with
runoff from impervious areas. A rain garden captures water that would usually run into a storm
drain and eventually be discharged into a river and allows it to infiltrate into the ground and for
evapotranspiration to occur. In a study done to evaluate how effective rain gardens are at capturing

his arrest was recorded on a police body camera. He hasn t yet had his day in court, but the
footage of his arrest, name, address and date of birth are all made public records (Sullivan n.p.).
Those supporting these cameras say it is their right to see the footage, but by enabling those rights
the right to privacy for victims and officers become second class. The show Cops has been around
for 28 seasons and has highlighted the scenes of which police encounter every day. It s not pretty,
but those filmed are asked to sign off on permission to use the footage. If they don t sign the
footage can t be used, this is allowing suspects their due privacy. Police body cameras invade
officers and suspects rights to privacy and provide too much transparency. The primary
disadvantage of police body cameras is that they infringe on the simple privacy rights of officers
and those who they interact with. Unlike the show these officers would not be able to get a
signed release from every person in their film. A policy to release all police recorded videos
could mean footage of the inside of a person s home or a hospital would be available (Sullivan
n.p.). The body camera footage could show the inside of officers homes and other private situations
(Sullivan n.p.). This footage of a home, hospital or morgue shows that the footage is

Of Mice And Men By George Orwell Analysis
As I was reading this story, I came to the realization that George Orwell childhood and young
adulthood very much mirrored my own youth. His habits were my habits, from making up stories,
to holding conversations with my imaginary friend. If I have learned anything from this story, is
that my strange eccentricities can be a wonderful diving board into fictionwriting.
I always imagine fiction writers had well tailored tweed suits or long flower skirts with various
colorful patterns that don t seem to go anywhere. Typing at their typewriting or computer with their
trusted dictionary and thesaurus right beside them. They have a PH.D in whatever is the most
expensive university at that time. His or her childhood was filled with intellectual parents

Hepatic Portal Vein Obstruction ( Ehpvo )
Introduction: Extra hepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), i.e., in the absence of liver cirrhosis
or abdominal cancer, is a rare manifestation of venous thrombosis that often leads to portal
hypertension1.After prothrombin, factor V, next most common cause of thrombophilia is high
plasma levels of coagulation factor VIII, which are present in approximately 20% of patients with
deep vein thrombosis(DVT) of the lower limbs and increase the risk of the disease in a dose
dependent manner 2. Like fibrinogen, factor VIII is an acute phase reactant whose concentration
rises in plasma in the presence of inflammation. However, high factor VIII levels are associated
with an increased risk of DVT independently of the acute phase reaction3.
Case report: A 21 year old male in good health and with no significant past medical history
presented with abdominal pain for 2 months in epigastric and left hypochondrium. He is not on any
drugs. History of similar complaints in his younger sister and she died 2 years back without any
evaluation. A contrast enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen showed superior
mesenteric vein thrombosis with multiple collaterals in perigastric and porta hepatis. A
coagulation profile work up was done. His factor VIII activity concentration was found to be 260%

Elisa Confused Essay
Elisa Confused Like many short stories, John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums deceives most
readers by appearing to be a simple short story. The Chrysanthemums, which only occupies about
eight pages in textbooks, captures the emotional pain of a woman trying to live in the 1930 s. As
critic Stanley Renner wrote, The Chrysanthemums shows a strong capable woman kept from
personal, social, and sexual fulfillment by the prevailing conception of a woman s role in a world
dominated by men (Renner 306). Elisa Allen, the only female in The Chrysanthemums displays her
sexual frustrations throughout the short story by slipping in and out of masculine and feminine
characteristics. The Chrysanthemums begins by describing Elisa s... Show more content on

Elisa then speaks about how she would be good at working in the orchards. Henry apparently
feels Elisa has spoken too much about masculine subjects because he resorts back to calling the
chrysanthemums simply flowers (221). This first scene between husband and wife sets the tone
of the entire story. Elisa s gestures and actions change as different words and topics are
mentioned to her. She feel s unimportant and inferior as a woman and strong enough to be a
man. Soon after Henry leaves to finish he work, the tinker is introduced into the story. Here is
where Elisa s sexuality is tested. Elisa s first reaction to the tinker is similar to that of a man s,
for she resists giving him work (Marcus 56). She show strong qualities as she tells the tinker she as
no work for him. The tinker begins to weaken Elisa, though, and eventually breaks her strong stance
by using her pride and joy her chrysanthemums. The tinker captures the beauty of the
chrysanthemums in a poetic, feminine nature. He describes them as a quick puff of colored smoke,
which appeals to Elisa s feminine side. Suddenly, Elisa begins to unveil her womanliness. She tears
off her hat and shakes out her dark pretty hair (Steinbeck 224). By being interested in Elisa s
feminine flowers, the tinker makes Elisa comfortable with her sexuality. Allowing her feminine
nature to appear, Elisa becomes emotional vulnerable during the business transaction involving her
chrysanthemums. This is

Walt Disney Concert Hall
Public Spaces provide unique experiences and contribute to the identity of a city. Found as places
like plazas, parks, marketplaces, within buildings, lobbies and many more. Public spaces are
important to our society and therefore face more arguments in design and construction compared to
private spaces.
In order to create innovative public architecture, considered to be the most civic, costly, time
intensive and physical of the arts, the project holds a degree of risk, strife, and negotiation .
Overcoming these tasks and creating worthy public architecture is a challenge designers try to
accomplish, but are rarely successful. The people involved in a potential public building, can be

And how would the building relate to the greater urban context?
Nicholas felt that to gain a clearer understanding of the issues involved, he arranged a research
tour of great concert halls around the world in November 1987. After the research and experience
the travelers shared, the Berlin Philharmonie Hall by Hans Scharon was one of the groups favorite
for its combination of acoustical excellence and audience intimacy. From there Ernest Fleischman,
head of LA Phil during the time, agreed he wanted the Disney Concert Hall to be a single purpose
hall that is inviting, open and accessible to the street and related it to the experience of the Berlin
Philharmonie.
The next step for the Walt Disney Concert Hallis a crucial one, choosing the architect for the Hall.
The list began with eighty different architects from around the world. Through extensive processing
and interviewing, the selection slimmed down to four architects: Goffried Bohm, Frank Gehry,
Hans Hollein, and James Stirling.
From the start many people in the Music Center were opposed to Frank Gehry and his reputation of
being an architectural wild man . In the end Gehry demonstrated consideration of what the building
in Los Angeles should be. Even though the designs Gehry presented during the competition were
not used, Gehry showed his understanding for the program; the important relationship looking to be
expressed between musician and audience and his previous work with other music venues.

Canadian Magazine Globalization
Globalization, which is the international integrations of people, economics, and culture, has
changed the world. Cultural globalization is a phenomenon by which the experience of everyday
life, as influenced by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, reflects a standardization of cultural
expressions (Watson 2016, para.1). Many people believe that their culture is under fire by cultural
globalizationand the birth of the new global village. One such example of this is the case of the
Canadian Magazine Dispute of the 1990 s.
Canada believes magazines to be an integral part of their culture and media. The Canadian
government, in an effort to protect this aspect of its culture, began imposing tariffs on foreign
magazines. This began in the 1920 s and in the 60 s began prohibiting split run editions of foreign
magazines (The Levin Institute 2016, para.3). In the 90 s, and the boom in information technology,
this all came to a head. American publishers began publishing split run editions with some Canadian
content. They were printed in Canada via electronic transmission. Canada, who was angered over
this loophole and in an effort to protect its magazine industry, raised the ... Show more content on

because of financial interests of the Canadian magazine industry? As I stated in the last question,
the Canadian domestic magazine market is considerably small compared to the foreign market.
With the heavy push of American magazines due to the information technology boom, I believed
that the Canadian magazine publishers were indeed worried that they might be shut out of their
market completely especially since so much of the magazine industry seems to have been
controlled by foreign publishers. I believe the Canadian publishers probably lobbied hard to ensure

Another way that Jane Austen and Shakespeare present strong feelings in Pride and Prejudice
and The Merchant of Venice is through strong characters. In both stories there are many
characters, but the two main characters are Elizabeth and Shylock. They are both very strong
minded and not afraid to speech their mind. In Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth is very different to
other characters in the novel. Female characters in the novel believe that looking good,
behaving well and keeping their feelings to themselves is very important, Elizabeth isn t
bothered about speaking out or not looking well, for example when Elizabeth walks to see her
sister Jane in the Bingleys house, Bingleys sister and friend are very surprised that she walked
all this way in the mud and they even say that it isn t very ladylike! Lady Catherine De Bourgh
who is very high in class asks Elizabeth if she wants to come to London with her, and Elizabeth
says no.

Modern Cuban culture cannot simply be defined in a singular fashion. The convergence of peoples
from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds, ranging from the Iberia and Italy to Africa and
China has significantly influenced the evolution of the unique culture of the Cuban population.
However, of these, it is the Spanish and African influences that have very distinctly remained,
shaping societal norms, and setting culturally artistic precedents. For Afro Cubans however, the
struggle to greater recognition of cultural influence has been enormous. Racial oppression and socio

In his famous text, Cuban Counterpoint: Tobacco and Sugar, Ortiz explains how the cultures and
peoples that descended upon the island, beginning with the native Ciboney and Taino, did not
simple assume one another s culture, but converged to create completely new cultures and societal
norms (Ortiz, 99). Though sadly, the majority of these original tribes were completely eliminated
by the Spanish, they remain alive in words such as, manatee, hammock, hurricane, and tobacco
(Kronenburg, 51). However, to say that Spanish and African peoples descended upon Cuba would
be misleading; hence the more accurate use of transculturation to describe the intersection of a
range of cultures from the Iberian Peninsula including Galicians, Basque, Portuguese, and from
western Africa including Congolese, Angolan, and Guinean (Kronenburg, 52).
Even more interesting than the etymology of Cuba s ethnic history is the implications of how
transculturation played into the historical and social construction of power dynamics in Cuba. Ortiz
states that throughout Cuban history, one culture was not only attempting to gain power and
wealth for themselves, but systematically set up a culture that disenfranchised another population;
this is seem most directly with the institution of slavery by the Spanish (Ortiz, 101). The power
dynamic created by the institution of slavery can certainly be pointed to as a

Net Present Value Essay
Investments are necessary for a business to grow. Although, this is true it much more valuable to
know about the value and benefit of the investment. Selecting the best investment choice will
ensure growth in the future and will generate value. The problem typically arises when trying to
utilize capital budgeting skills in determining different tasks with the same risk. There are many
ways to determine the correct return gained from investments. The (NPV) Net Present Valuehas
proven to be the best method for organizations to use. NPV gives a direct image of what can be
profited or loss when investing. This allows for the best decision to be made when selecting a
project.

Based on this method the future funds that can be potentially earned from the project have to be
larger than the starting amount of investment. At minimum the price of investment has to be
recouped from the project. In both situations there has to be a recoupment or the projects will be
abandoned because there would be too much burden on the organization with no gain. Now, if the
ROI is higher than the price of capital, only then can the choice be made. Assuming both ideas
have large ROI s then the idea with the greatest is going to be chosen. This situation is known as
hurdle rate (Damodar, 2017).
PI or Profitability Index is the method that involves the profits earned from a project. Just like
with NPV all predicted income is discounted to current rates utilizing the price of capital, usually
the discounted rate. The way that choices are made under this method is that all tasks with a
profitability index of higher than one with be chosen and anything under one will not be chosen.
This is because it is assumed that the profitability index value of larger than one lets on that the
projected cash flow will have a higher value than the starting investment. Both PI and NPV answers
will reveal similar data so, it is not sensible to utilize this method to determine the project
(Tarantino, 2006).

Slavery In Joseph J. Ellis American Creation
Joseph J. Ellis American Creation thoroughly explained the attitude that many of the Founding
Fathers had towards slavery. Although they knew slavery was immoral and went against what they
believed it, they were unsure how to solve the problem. The Founders came up with three main
solutions; shipping the slaves back to Africa or the West Indies, gradually liberating the slaves, or
postponing a solution and allowing the next generation to deal with finding one. With the first two
possible solutions, the Founders came up with economic, political, and social consequences, which
led them to choose the third.
The Founders came to the conclusion that removing slavery would damage the country
economically. One of the main solutions the Founders had to end slavery was to relocate them.
Jefferson s idea was ...the blacks...must be shipped to Africa or some location in the West Indies.
(211). The cost of that alone would have been enormous and extremely detrimental to the economy
of the United States. However, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Slavery was extremely important to the people of the United States. Even many of the Founders
were attached to their slaves. The first president, George Washington, owned more than a
hundred slaves himself (9). Jefferson knew that one problem with gradual emancipation would
be having slavery prohibited. He knew this would be an issue because of how fond many
southerners were of slavery. Jefferson s policy could put an end to slavery. However it would not
stop the exploitation of blacks. This was another problem when trying to find a solution to slavery.
Even if slavery was ended, the blacks would have to work for a barely, if at all, livable wage. The
goal of prohibiting slavery was to make all men equal. This was a concept first put on paper in the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
PSYCHOSIS IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS: A REVIEW
Abstract
Key words Lupus, Psychosis, SLE, NP SLE, steroids, reversible
INTRODUCTION
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disease of
multifactorial etiology that can affect many organs and systems (Sato, 2002).
The studies show a higher prevalence in women (approximately 90% of cases), especially during
childbearing years, i.e. between 15 and 45 years of age; more common in women of black
ethnicity than in Caucasian ones at a ratio of 3:1 , but it can occur in all ethnic groups and
geographic regions (BonfГЎ, 2011).
The central nervous system is often affected by this disease, causing neurological and/or psychiatric
symptoms. Psychiatric syndromes in patients with SLE include a variety of psychiatric findings
causing chronic disabilities (Jarpa, 2011).
SLE may cause a wide range of neurological and psychiatric symptoms including those due to
central, peripheral and autonomic nervous system and different psychiatric syndromes. In 1999, the
ACR developed a standardized nomenclature system for the NP syndromes of SLE for the purposes
of classification and reporting (The American College of Rheumatology, 1997; 1999). It
distinguishes three subsets of syndromes: psychiatric disorders, cognitive deficits and acute
confusional states; neurological syndromes of the CNS and neurological syndromes of the
peripheral nervous system (The American College of Rheumatology, 1997; 1999). Anxiety,

Including the greatest award one is able to attain in hockey,
Lord Stanley s Cup, in the 2008 09 Season. Crosby was then the youngest captain to ever win the
Stanley Cup in NHL history. Other great achievement s Crosby has attained is the Art Ross
trophy, which is awarded to the player with the most scoring points in a season. Another award
he won that same season, in the 2006 07 season, was the Hart Trophy (Fitzpatrick). The final and
most likely greatest achievement Crosby has made, is being the second youngest captain in
NHL history. He did hold the reign of youngest Captain for 6 years until, Gabriel Landeskog was
named captain for the Colorado Avalanche. Landeskog was only 11 days younger than Crosby
when named, but he still took the title of youngest captain in NHL history (Sadowski). These
achievements have supported reasons why Crosby is better than Gretzky. With all the evidence
supporting Crosby s case proves that Crosby is overall a better and a stronger player than
Gretzky. Since this is accurate and supported through evidence, Crosby can now be referred to the

The Impact Of Islamic Radicalism On The Middle East
One of the most pressing issues in modern geopolitics is the rise of a radical and violent terrorist
sect in the Middle East. Most prominently associated with Al Qaeda during the early half of the
21st century and as of 2015 it s even more extreme splinter group The Islamic State of Iraq and
Syria. While many in the West are shocked by the violent motivations and anti Western philosophy
of these movements the truth is that Islamic Radicalism has roots that stretch far back through the
fog of history to the fall of the Ottoman Empireand the rise of European economic, social, and
military might in the region. With the partitioning of the old Ottoman territories after World War I
and subsequent occupation by Western European colonial powers, the historical strategy of
colonization came into play; place a foreign backed minority led government into power to serve as
a puppet regime acting for the benefit of the controlling foreign interest. This socially unsustainable
colonial strategy placed the majority of many countries, including Egypt and Syria, into conflict
with the empowered minority. Other more homogeneous countries, such as Iraqand Iran, discontent
to live under the oppressive de facto rule of a foreign power, grew embittered towards their
colonial patrons and puppet dictatorships and turned towards the perceived purity and social
benefits of embracing political movements based in Islam and Pan Arabism.

Similarities Between Christianity And Christianity
The book of Genesis chapter 17 verses 20 and 21 in the Holy Bible state My covenant I will
establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year. When he had finished
speaking with Abraham, God went up from him . This covenant between God and Abraham would
plant the seeds of Judaism and Christianity; it prophesized a great nation who would be the
descendants of Abraham and Isaac This nation of people would be called the Jews, and with the
crucifixion of Jesus this nation would become fractured into Jews and Christians. This would lead
to cause contention and religions confusion for thousands of years Judaismand Christianity are both
monotheistic religions that have similar core values and principles; however despite these
similarities there are differences in practice and traditions that have caused ethnic and religious
conflicts that often overshadows their connection. Historical events such as the expulsion of Jews
due to religious persecution in European countries like England, France, and Spain in the 16th,
17th, and 18th centuries set the stage for the greatest example of ethnic cleansing in human history,
the Holocaust. The systematic death of millions of European Jews by European Christians is by far
the greatest example of how these small traditional and interpretive differences in these two
religions have had drastic consequences. Consequences like this can be avoided through research

Analysis Of Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept Of Education
In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire Explains his view of the educational
system. His essay is primarily based on two types of educational methods, which are the banking
education and the problem posing education . Banking education resists the communication
between the student and the teacher, and it does not encourage critical thinking. Problem posing
educationgives the students liberation to dialogue and encourages critical thinking. In this essay, I
will explain why I promote the problem posing education. Also, I will explain why people need to
experience both methods in their educational experiences. I prefer the problem posing education
because teachers allow communication and there is an engagement with their students to help them
learn effectively. One must experience banking education to realize that problem posing education
is a better method to teach students. In banking education, the teacher s roll is to teach and the
student s roll is to just listen. According to Freire, A teacher who used a banking concept in their
teachings, usually prepares lessons in his[or her] study or his [or her] laboratory and then expounds
to his [or her] students about that object (6). Friere writes that banking education confuses the
authority of knowledge with his or her own professional authority, which she and her sets in
opposition to the freedom of the students (2). Banking education fails to give students an
opportunity to express their

Jean Piaget Essay
Jean Piaget was a major contributor to the world of psychology and sociology that we know
today. His works and discoveries still help sociologist determine and figure out ways people in
society interact and develop throughout time. Piaget was born on August 9, 1896 and was raised in
NeuchГўtel, Switzerland (Boeree n.d.). His family was very influential to his success. His father
was a historian that authored many writings on the medieval times, and his mother was very
intellectual and kind, however, she had a mental health problem that pushed Piaget to become
interested in psychology (Presnell 1999). He became an enthused and determined scholar at a
young age. Piaget s early interests were of zoology (Jean Piagetn.d.). At age eleven, he... Show

Piaget worked in a psychiatric lab in Zurich for a year where he studied the thoughts of Jung and
Freud. Piaget also started teaching psychology in 1919 in Paris. This is where he started doing
studies of intelligence testing with Simon Benet Fame. Piaget felt that the right wrong ways of
intelligence testing was an unreliable source; instead he started interviewing school boys. He
used psychiatric techniques to learn about adolescence reasoning (Boeree n.d.). Piaget
researched in many places, such as, the Jean Jacques Rousseau Institute of Geneva in 1921
where he studied the mental capabilities of an infant in the first two years of life. This is where
he would write and publish his first works on children phycology. During this time he met his
soon to be wife, Valentine Chatenay. After his success of his first five books, in 1925 Piaget
started teaching psychology at Neuchatel University (Presnell 1999). During this time he would
become a father of two daughters and a son. He would use them as observational studies as they
grew up (Boeree n.d.). Piaget continued to study and teach at numerous places, such as, Lausanne
and Paris (Jean Piaget Biography n.d.). He ended up writing over sixty books and articles during
his long career. Piaget past away in Geneva, Switzerland on the 16th of September 1980, over fifty
years of excellent research that will shape the world of psychology and sociology for years to come
(Boeree n.d.).

The Causes Of The American And French Revolution
The American Revolution began with armed conflict in April of 1775 when battles between British
troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started. The conflict started from growing
tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the colonial
government, which represented the British crown. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and
resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolutionbegan in 1789 and
ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict started because of rising social
and economic inequality, new political ideas emerging from the Enlightenment, economic
mismanagement, environmental factors leading to agricultural failure, unmanageable national debt,
and political mismanagement on the part of King Louis XVI have all been cited as laying the
groundwork for the Revolution. The American and French Revolution were fundamentally similar
because they both were about freedom from oppression, removing economic turmoil and new
ideality.
One of the reasons why the American and French Revolution was started because they both were
being oppressed. The Americans were being oppressed by the English, who controlled their
government and the French were being oppressed by their own government. The major turning
point of the American Revolution was July 4th, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was
signed. In the context of the 18th century, liberty was freedom from oppression,

African Americans Should Be Banned Essay
Although the CITES banned the poaching of Asian and African elephants and international trade in
the mid 1980 s, many organizations have been posting anti ivory trade promotion on their website
(Stiles, 309). Websites such as International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Born Free
Foundation, Care for the Wild International, and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
(Stiles, 309). Many of the southern countries of Africa do not agree with the African elephantban
(Stiles, 309). They ve been against the ban since around the mid 1980 s (Stiles, 309). People from
the southern countries of Africa have been arguing because they don t believe they should be
penalized because other countries don t know how to handle their wildlife (Stiles, 309). The
CITES Conference of Parties voted in favor of Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe to... Show more

They also noticed that out of the 149 elephant sample they had, two of those elephants were killed
for the mean while the other 149 were killed for the ivory (Jachmann Billiouw, 235). This making
a big concerned. Out of all those 149 elephants being poached, only two being used for a living is
impressive. The rest were just killed for only two little things, that have a value but yet is not worth
the killing of a mammal.
Poaching has been increasing for many years. The number of poaching cases throughout the
decades have been increasing. In the 1970 s and 1980 s, the ivory demand grew drastically
making poaching for ivory increase throughout these years (Stiles, 309). CITES recommended to
use a system called Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) in which helped monitor
the illegal killing of elephants (Stiles, 312). Also, to try and qualify the number of those elephants
killed by poachers (Scriber). The system has been working well that now monitors between 30 and
40 percent of the elephant population

All Wheel Drive And Luxury Sedan
All wheel drive and luxury to go with it.
The Genesis G80 is a midsize luxury sedan, designed to take on such models as the Audi A6, BMW
5 Series, Cadillac CTS, Mercedes Benz E Class, and the Lexus GS. Up until last year, we knew this
vehicle as the Hyundai Genesis, but as of 2017, Genesis is now its own brand.
Thus, last year s Hyundai Genesis is now this year s Genesis G80, while the Hyundai Equus was
replaced by an all new G90 model. Consider the G80 as a refresh of the previous Genesis sedan
model, adding more standard equipment as befits a luxury marque.
The 2017 Genesis G80 is offered in seven model or package choices: Standard 3.8 RWD ($41,400),
Standard 3.8 AWD ($43,900), 3.8 Premium Package RWD ($46,150), 3.8 Premium Package...

The G80 is nearly identical to the previous Genesis, but with no signs of H or Hyundai badging.
The winged Genesis logo is in place, underscoring what the new brand is all about.
What is familiar about the G80 is everything else from its long, elegant visage to its hexagonal
grille with six horizontal bars. Wrap around headlamps, LED accent lights, and LED fog lamps
complete this sedan s frontal presentation.
From the sides, Genesis opted for a more conservative approach, eschewing the dramatic lines and
body sculpting found in such Hyundai models as the Sonata. That said, a distinctive character line
at the door handle level adds interest along with rocker panel trim, and creased wheel wells.
Furthermore, standard 18 inch alloy wheels add flair and distinction to this midsize luxury sedan.
From the rear, you ll find a trunk lip spoiler. Large wraparound combination lights, reflectors and
dual exhaust ports are also present.
Quiet, Luxurious Cabin
I enjoy luxury cars in this class for a number of reasons. That they actually seat five people without
compromise is one of those reasons.
Sporty, firm bucket seats are up front, offering generous shoulder and hip bolstering. The split 60
40 fold down rear bench seat includes a fold 0down center compartment with storage and two cup
holders. As much as I like the third seat placement option, folding the middle position provides

the children could go to a private school called the Poland Academy. In school William liked to

He was rarely seen, while serving as congressman and governor, without his trademark carnation.
McKinley served 7 terms in Congress from 1877 1891, except for a 9 months in 1884 1885. The
House ruled that his opponent, lawyer Jonathan Wallace, had received the most votes in the
1882 election, so Wallace took McKinley s seat for the rest of the term. McKinley easily got
back to the office in the 1884 election. McKinley consistently won re election even though the
districts he represented were heavily Democratic. As a congressman, he focused his energies on
the tariff problem and became known as a protectionist and as a persuasive speaker. He was
usually associated with being on the side of big business, but he also worked hard for labor and
later, as governor of Ohio, he encouraged employees to join labor unions and to criticize
employers who refused workers the right to organized. Also as congressman he supported gold
over silver as the backbone of America s money system. In 1889, Thomas Reed of Maine
defeated him in the position of Speaker of the House. McKinley lost his next bid for Congress
and returned to Canton in 1891. As governor, a position he held for two terms from 1891 1895,
he proposed laws to protect railroad workers and address the issue of child labor, and a state board
of arbitration was established to deal with labor and business problems. During this time as
governor he became friends with millionaire industrialist Mark Hanna

Stan Lee Research Paper
With great power comes great responsibility. It s a quote everyone has heard in their life time,
and this man is the mastermind behind the phrase. In Stan Lee s case he may have created the
catchy line as a one off for a character, but never would he of expected to have it end up in dozens
of movies and tv shows spanning decades. Stanley Martin Lieber, later legally changed to his
pseudonym name Stan Lee, is the creator of some of the worlds most recognizable and profitable
characters and franchises on the planet to this day through Marvel Comics. To name just a few of
these marvelous characters; Spider Man, Iron Man, Hulk, The X Men, Black Panther, and literately

Jack Kirby and Joe Simon briefly decide to leave the company. This gives Stan Lee free range to
create characters and story lines as he pleases. After a long gray period of watered down comics
that people were not enjoying reading or creating Lee makes a bold move based on the opinion of
his wife, Joan Lee, who sees how much they are struggling. He pushes his higher ups to allow him
to start producing comics outside the CCA. They hesitantly allow him to try this risky business
move. This turns out to be just the step Timely needed as it saved them from bankruptcy. Fantastic
Four is published pushing them out in front of their only leading competitor DC for the first
time in history. The success of Fantastic Four brings upon the X Men, Hulk, Iron Man, and the
rise of multi cultural/ethnic characters to the comic world. Timely promptly rebrands to Marvel
Comics, and the Silver Age of Comics comes to a close and the Bronze Age begins. The Bronze
Age (1970 s/1985 ) restored the comic culture to America and slowly began spreading around the
globe as well. As they evolved Stan Lee pushed boundaries right along with it. Lee is largely
credited for being the person who re envisioned the very structure of how heroes are portrayed
and wrote. He strongly believed the character under the mask is just as or more important than the
hero itself. This shift in direction changed the entire way visual story telling was perceived at the
time. Now characters weren t just super, they were human too. Relatable people with struggles,
relationships, and even everyday jobs. He also strived to set the majority of Marvels stories in the
real world and not in fictional settings. This allowed for relatable fathomable individuals and the
creation of Marvels biggest triumph character to date;

Earth Pollution Essay
The earth is 4.543 billion years old, our ancestors are estimated to date back to six million years,
with modern human life dating back to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth
can be displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to
increase, so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley
is a mecca of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors
increases these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial,
mobile, and agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem.
Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is
not made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists,
emitted from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly
from a source, is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas,
is called secondary PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate
matter: PM10, for particles smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5.
Common PM10 is made up of more course particles, sources include: crushing or grinding
operations, soil stirred up in our valley s vast fields, and dirt roads. PM2.5 is composed of finer
particles created by elements most commonly

Role Of Sacrifice In The Odyssey
The last personal quality that Odysseus has used to guide him through the long trip is his
method of bravery. His ability to fight for survival in the sea and on land has become one of his
braveness. Without bravery he would ve been killed in the beginning of the story like all his men
did. But, their sacrifice combining with their braveness has influence him to survive without them.
For example, when they had to finish their mission of winning the Trojans in the City of Troy,
They believed that they had survived ten years of fierce fighting and were now ready to accept the
Achaeans s peace offering. After a day and night of celebration, the Trojans collapsed into a state of

Communicative Language Teaching
The Goal of Communicative Language Teaching Method: According to Cook (2003), the focus of
Communicative Language Teaching Method is primarily social. Therefore, its main goal is to
enable the learners to communicate successfully in the target language. In order to achieve that
goal, the learners have to be communicatively competent. Communicative competence can be
defined according to Saville and Troike (2003) as What a speaker needs to know to communicate
appropriately within a particular language community . Which means that the learners in
Communicative Language Teachingmethod will not only know the vocabulary, phonology and
grammar, but also they ll know how to use the language for several purposes, how to differentiate
between the uses of the language depending on the situations and the participants and they ll able
to classify and produce different kinds of texts. In addition, able to do all of these effectively with

  • 2. Schematic Diagram For Izod And Charpy Impact Test Izod and Charpy Impact Test Impact: The instant force or shock that is applied over a body when another body collide with it for a short period of time is known as impact. Impact test: These test are basically used to study the mechanical properties of materials as the result of impact produced by instant high loading. The purpose of these test is to measure the ability of a material to absorb energy as the result of the instant loading. This energy leads to further study of mechanical properties (toughness, impact strength, fracture resistance, impact resistance etc.). Furthermore these properties help in the selection of material for different applications. Types of Impact Test There are three types of impact test that are commonly used... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The standard size of the specimen is 10mm X 10mm X 55mm. Types of notch: V notch is a V shaped notch of depth 2mm, 0.25mm base and 45 angled. U notch is a key hole type notch of 5mm depth, 1mm radius at the base of notch Procedure Take a specimen as describe above. Now fixe the specimen from both ends at the base. Set free the striker, it will strike the specimen immediately behind a machined notch. Use the resultant energy (obtained by material failure) for further calculations. Breaking energy: The amount of energy absorbed by the specimen when it breaks is known as breaking energy. It is related to the height from which the load strikes the specimen. This energy calculations are same for both Izod and Charpy test. It is usually written as: E = mg (h0 hf) This breaking energy leads to further studies of properties of a material such as impact resistance, toughness etc. Impact energy (Breaking energy) vs Temperature When a graph is plotted between impact energy and temperature the resulting curve shows a rapid decrease in energy as the temperature decreases. A very sharp drop in energy can be used to evaluate the transition temperature Factors effecting Izod and Charpy impact energy Yield strength and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Robot Research Paper The three laws, Law I: A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. Law II: A robot must obey orders given by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. Law III: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. This is the very essence of I, Robot(2004) by Alex Proyas a world created to co exist with robots. Man made robots which signifies the result of a creative and innovative fast paced world full of greed and consumption. What appears as utopia is really a dystopia and not unlike the world we live in today. Just because something is attractive doesn t mean that there isn t something unattractive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Detective spooner describes it perfectly when he talks to the robot named Sonny who s programmed to have free will and true human emotion which is beyond the three laws. Sonny states I have dreams. And Spooner implies. Humans have dreams, even dogs have dreams, but not you. You are just a machine, imitation of life. Can a robot write a symphony? Can a robot turn a canvas into a beautiful masterpiece? (2004). Human have the ability to create, to build things, to bring things to life. But our creativity can be dangerous if we don t use it in a constructive manner. Doctor Lanning built a robot that breaks the thee laws . This society is so easy to believe that there is no possibility of a malfunction or error much less lack in the idea that the humans who created these advancements have the capability to expand beyond their creation. Whether laws are in place or not, humans have the natural ability to produce error. If we create something it too has the ability of error because of the abilities of its creator. This society places an abundance of trust in their robots that they ignore the fact that their development has taken from human jobs, human qualities and abilities to function independently. Likewise, our world today is leading into a far advanced technological state. But our creative minds might not know what we are really getting into and are we prepared if everything goes haywire? In I robot Dr. Lanning created a system called VIKI, Virtual Interactive Kinaesthetic Interface used by USR robotic company. VIKI is a super computer that controls all NS5 robots. However, VIKI malfunctions and becomes too concerned about human safety that she programs killer robots to wipe out humanity as a logical means of saving humans from destroying themselves. To protect humanity, some humans must be sacrificed. To insure your future, some freedoms must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some conspiracy theories are far out and some are surprisingly believable, but it s interesting how easy it is to get so involved in them that one doesn t know what or whom to trust anymore. In the dictionary, conspiracy is defined as, a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. People have faith in conspiracy theoriesbecause they find a certain comfort in knowing that they cannot be proven wrong (or correct), and humans need compensation on the unknown or shady and what better way to compensate than to blame the government. As Walker puts it, the forces of socioeconomic modernization that grow disparity further increase the capability and fluency of suburban political opinion. For Walker, such a quandary of uneven development is the root problem of the contemporary political tension in Thailand. They anticipate that the state will invigorate its efforts to raise the value of suburban livelihoods, cut back inequality, and extend secure savings when experimental engagements with private budget fail. Urban rural linkages not only supported the happening of modification, promoted slick forms of disbursement, and blurred spatial distinctions, but also enabled suburban dwellers to compare their disadvantages with wealthy social populations. Income inconsistency has caused dissatisfaction among peasants, who have endorsed a stable share of the benefits of economic development. The 2006 elite backed coup executed the relationship between Thaksin and rural political society. However, Bangkok elites and intellectuals condemned the impropriety of Thaksin and the electorate that had voted him into power. The adequate household in Bangkok is approximately three times higher than in the suburban northeast and the north. Walker has pointed out that discrimination in Thailand is not the output of exuberance extraction by prevailing elites. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For one, Holden is a hypocrite; he believes one thing when he really does not. For example, he preaches that people should be themselves and not be phony but yet he fakes his name most of the time and tries to be someone he is not. Although Holden is a hypocrite, he stands up for his morals, and he is very empathetic. Holden cares for others, even though it might seem as if he does not. Selye (1936) identifies stress to be recognized by all, but nobody comprehends what it is. All of us have been exposed to stress; however, each one of us interprets stress differently, and our coping strategies vary from individual to individual. As a matter of fact, some people get motivated with stress, and it enhances both mental and physical performances while others succumb to depression and serious medical predicaments. By the same token, Boswell, Olson Buchanan, LePine (2004, p. 168) asserts that challenge stressor is described as difficult tasks that can improve a person s expertise, comprehension, and abilities. Known for robbery, murder and kidnapping the two spent most of their criminal career hiding and running from law enforcement. They encountered many different people on the run, some of which became accomplice s others became victims. The movie Bonnie and Clydeis a basic interpretation of the events that led up to the gruesome killings of the couple. It started January 5th, 1930 when Bonnie and Clyde first met at a mutual friend s house (Browder). At the time of their fateful meeting, Bonnie was already married to Roy Thornton, who was at the time serving a five year sentence in prison (Strickland). They grew close in a short period of time and soon later Clyde was arrested on charges of burglary and went to jail. A short time later, by smuggling Clyde a gun in his jail cell, Bonnie helped him escape. However, it was not long after that he was arrested again, he went back to jail and was sentenced to two years. However, he only remained there for several months until he was released on general parole because of his mothers pleading with the governor (Guinn). Ironically just before he was to be released, a fellow convict in the same facility was asked by Clyde to chop of two of his toes in order to escape the difficult work detail. (Mcgasko). • 14. The Emotions Of The Brain Impacted By Emotions An emotion is described as, a conscious mental reaction subjectively experienced as a strong feeling usually directed toward a specific object and typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body (Merriam Webster, n.d.). Strong feelings of emotion, such as anger, love, fear, joy, hate, etc., impact parts of the brain, both positively and negatively, and how an individual learns. In regards to the parts of the brain impacted by emotions, the limbic system is made of six different parts. First, the almond shaped amygdala, is located in the medial temporal lobe, handles intense emotional responses, such as aggression or fear, and is very important in emotional learning. Secondly, is the hippocampus. The hippocampus also is located in the medial temporal lobe, is a structure where short term memories are formed and, plays a role in emotions and memory. The third part of the brain impacted by emotions is the pre frontal cortex that is located near the front of the head. It is involved in decision making in response to emotions. The fourth is the hypothalamus. This structure is located in the diencephalon, feeds information into the amygdala, and acts as a regulator of emotion. The hypothalamus controls sexual desire, pleasure, aggression, and anger. The cingulated gyrus is the fifth part of the brain impacted by emotions. An important part of the limbic system, the cingulate gyrus helps regulate emotions and pain. The cingulate gyrus is thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of instinct over intellect plays a huge role in this naturalistic story, but perhaps the greater influence in the story is the power of morality in the final breaths of life. American freedom and individuality have often been expressed in, and celebrated by stories of exploration, adventure, enterprise, and the pursuit of gain: the conquest of the prairie, the settling of the West, the taming of the wilderness, the gold rush, and the mastery of nature through science, industry, and technology (Bjorkland 3). Jack London s story offers us a picture of one such fortune hunting, rugged individual. London took part in the Klondike gold rush, and though he failed as a miner, he struck gold with stories drawing on the places and people he encountered during those hope filled and brutal times in the Northwest Territory. In To Build A Fire, the man s passion to explore and make a better life for himself was destroyed by the ultimate fate of nature. Jim Cullen explores the meaning of the American Dream, or rather the several American Dreams that have both reflected and shaped American identity from the Pilgrims to the present in his book, The American Dream. Cullen notes that the United States, unlike most other nations, defines itself not on the facts of blood, religion, language, geography, or shared history, but on a set of ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence and consolidated in the Constitution (Cullen 19). At the core of these ideals lies the ambiguous concept of the American Dream, a concept that for better or worse has proven to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Liberal, John Ikenberry And The American Liberal World Order In Liberal Leviathan John Ikenberry argues that the American led liberal hegemonic order has reached a major shift in its authority within the liberal order. In the last two chapters of the book, Ikenberry argues that the era of unipolar hegemony for the United States is ending, and that it will eventually have to re negotiate its balance of power with other emerging states. Critics believe that the American liberal world order is no longer serving its original purpose, and is becoming a more imperial order that is beginning to disintegrate. Ikenberry also highlights that there are many states that could rival the overall hegemonyof the United States. Overall the last two chapters of the book argue that the United States needs to consider taking a new pathway so that the liberal order can accurately serve its role for the challenges ahead. Ikenberry argues that there are many dilemmas within the organization of the international world order. The liberal order is defined by its openness and its rule based order. Order is maintained in these institutions when states agree to follow the rules set by these institutions. The liberal order has sought to establish its rules in a non biased system that will not discriminate other states, so that the entire institution can agree on these regulations. However, this has raised many serious dilemmas . There seems to be concern of how the balance of power operates. Ikenberry argues that the international order has been put into place ... Smart planning and using green technologies can reduce the impact that urbanization and growing populations puts on the Bay. Pervious paving surfaces reduce the amount of runoff going into the Bay. There are many benefits to using pervious concrete, these benefits are achieved with the use of an innovative design. Pervious pavement, also referred to as porous or permeable pavement, is actually a system consisting of an open graded surface layer of concrete, asphalt, or pavers, typically placed over an open graded aggregate base layer. The pavement structure has a large percentage of void spaces allowing water to permeate through the surface and base at a rate comparable to that of a grass lawn (Broviak). Strict stormwater control measures have recently been passed in states surrounding the Chesapeake s watershed, including Maryland, and many require a certain amount of green space or use of green technologies in construction. In addition to the growing use of pervious pavement techniques, other types of stormwater management techniques are gaining popularity. In a thesis paper from University of Maryland, Wilson discusses alternative ways to engineer for the Bay; By using technologies such as cisterns, green roofs, and constructed wetlands, the built environment can be designed to decrease our need for expensive water purifying infrastructure and preserve the health of fragile estuary ecosystems such as the Chesapeake Bay. Rain gardens are a viable alternative to storm drains to deal with runoff from impervious areas. A rain garden captures water that would usually run into a storm drain and eventually be discharged into a river and allows it to infiltrate into the ground and for evapotranspiration to occur. A Brief Note On The Police Body Camera Jordyn Hanson Sara Gillis ENGL 101T 30 Nov. 2016 Through an officer s eye A man in Seattle was arrested for a peaceful protest early this year, and his arrest was recorded on a police body camera. He hasn t yet had his day in court, but the footage of his arrest, name, address and date of birth are all made public records (Sullivan n.p.). Those supporting these cameras say it is their right to see the footage, but by enabling those rights the right to privacy for victims and officers become second class. The show Cops has been around for 28 seasons and has highlighted the scenes of which police encounter every day. It s not pretty, but those filmed are asked to sign off on permission to use the footage. If they don t sign the footage can t be used, this is allowing suspects their due privacy. Police body cameras invade officers and suspects rights to privacy and provide too much transparency. The primary disadvantage of police body cameras is that they infringe on the simple privacy rights of officers and those who they interact with. Unlike the show these officers would not be able to get a signed release from every person in their film. A policy to release all police recorded videos could mean footage of the inside of a person s home or a hospital would be available (Sullivan n.p.). She feel s unimportant and inferior as a woman and strong enough to be a man. Soon after Henry leaves to finish he work, the tinker is introduced into the story. Though sadly, the majority of these original tribes were completely eliminated by the Spanish, they remain alive in words such as, manatee, hammock, hurricane, and tobacco (Kronenburg, 51). Even more interesting than the etymology of Cuba s ethnic history is the implications of how transculturation played into the historical and social construction of power dynamics in Cuba. The Founders came up with three main solutions; shipping the slaves back to Africa or the West Indies, gradually liberating the slaves, or postponing a solution and allowing the next generation to deal with finding one. With the first two possible solutions, the Founders came up with economic, political, and social consequences, which led them to choose the third. The Founders came to the conclusion that removing slavery would damage the country economically. One of the main solutions the Founders had to end slavery was to relocate them. Similarities Between Christianity And Christianity The book of Genesis chapter 17 verses 20 and 21 in the Holy Bible state My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year. When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him . This covenant between God and Abraham would plant the seeds of Judaism and Christianity; it prophesized a great nation who would be the descendants of Abraham and Isaac This nation of people would be called the Jews, and with the crucifixion of Jesus this nation would become fractured into Jews and Christians. This would lead to cause contention and religions confusion for thousands of years Judaismand Christianity are both monotheistic religions that have similar core values and principles; however despite these similarities there are differences in practice and traditions that have caused ethnic and religious conflicts that often overshadows their connection. Historical events such as the expulsion of Jews due to religious persecution in European countries like England, France, and Spain in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries set the stage for the greatest example of ethnic cleansing in human history, the Holocaust. The systematic death of millions of European Jews by European Christians is by far the greatest example of how these small traditional and interpretive differences in these two religions have had drastic consequences. • 40. Analysis Of Paulo Freire s The Banking Concept Of Education In the essay The Banking Concept of Education, Paulo Freire Explains his view of the educational system. His essay is primarily based on two types of educational methods, which are the banking education and the problem posing education . Banking education resists the communication between the student and the teacher, and it does not encourage critical thinking. Problem posing educationgives the students liberation to dialogue and encourages critical thinking. In this essay, I will explain why I promote the problem posing education. Also, I will explain why people need to experience both methods in their educational experiences. I prefer the problem posing education because teachers allow communication and there is an engagement with their students to help them learn effectively. One must experience banking education to realize that problem posing education is a better method to teach students. In banking education, the teacher s roll is to teach and the student s roll is to just listen. According to Freire, A teacher who used a banking concept in their teachings, usually prepares lessons in his[or her] study or his [or her] laboratory and then expounds to his [or her] students about that object (6). Friere writes that banking education confuses the authority of knowledge with his or her own professional authority, which she and her sets in opposition to the freedom of the students (2). • 42. The Causes Of The American And French Revolution The American Revolution began with armed conflict in April of 1775 when battles between British troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started. The conflict started from growing tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the colonial government, which represented the British crown. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolutionbegan in 1789 and ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict started because of rising social and economic inequality, new political ideas emerging from the Enlightenment, economic mismanagement, environmental factors leading to agricultural failure, unmanageable national debt, and political mismanagement on the part of King Louis XVI have all been cited as laying the groundwork for the Revolution. The American and French Revolution were fundamentally similar because they both were about freedom from oppression, removing economic turmoil and new ideality. One of the reasons why the American and French Revolution was started because they both were being oppressed. The Americans were being oppressed by the English, who controlled their government and the French were being oppressed by their own government. The major turning point of the American Revolution was July 4th, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. In the context of the 18th century, liberty was freedom from oppression, ...
