JGT Task 2
Memorandum to: Cynthia Crownshield from: subject: Production Analysis date: cc: Alistair wu,
Dieter Handel, Distribution Pattern Alistair Wu has requested that I look at what the lowest shipping
schedule and cost can be based on data that he has provided. He wants to know what the lowest
possible cost of shipping will can be. Mr. Wu is also considering increasing production at the
Shanghai factory from 1,300 to 2,800 units, and wants to ensure that this growth will be an affordable
choice. The first chart that was given lists the factory capacity and what each warehouse demand is.
The second chart lists the price of shipping from each factory to each warehouse. The chart looks at
the demand in the warehouses as well as the cost to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They use 300,000 shoelaces per year with an estimated cost of $125 for every order to the suppliers.
The estimated holding cost of each pair of laces is $.10.In order to help her with this; I used the
economic order quantity model (EOQ). The annual expenses for ordering and storing the inventory
will be $1,369.31. The optimal inventory that they should keep on hand should be 27,386 and the
average inventory around 13,693. Ms. Down should order the optimal level of shoelaces 11 times a
year to avoid shortages. C2. Computer Analysis C2a. Decision Analysis Tool Justification The
economic order quantity is used for this situation because it shows the number of pairs of laces that
can be added to the inventory each time an order is placed to minimize the holding and ordering costs.
It provides the information that can be used to control the inventory levels and costs. D. Waiting Line
System Shuzworld aims to keep customer satisfaction at its highest. A customer approach that focuses
on making the customer happy is of upmost importance. One way to achieve this is to ensure that
customer wait time is kept to a minimum. Specific questions have been posed for concern; how many
customers will be in the system; how many customers on average will be in line; and what the
probability is of one being in line or being served? The company is looking at staffing each

Northern Drilling, The World s Third Largest Exploration...
Northern Drilling: Introduction Northern Drilling Inc. was established as a subsidiary of Europe s
InterDrilling Corporation, the world s third largest exploration drilling contractor, in 2006 to take on a
new frontier in Canada. A seasoned veteran in the drilling exploration field for more than 30 years,
Peter Bremner took the helm as general manager to build its Canadian division as an opportunity to
take advantage of a potentially untapped resource goldmine . Northern Drilling prided itself as an
extremely specialized, full service drilling exploration company being technically sound along with
keeping the highest safety standards in the industry. They are predominantly hired by large mining
companies, with RFP s (Request for Proposal), to explore the possible existence of valuable ore
deposits, mostly in remote locations and occasionally in harsh conditions. The industry as a whole is
known as diamond exploration drilling, however it s not limited to one mineral, but rather anything
from industrial minerals such as salts or limestone to scarcer elements found beneath earth s surface
(Bremner, 2012). The ore drilling industry is especially competitive comprised of approximately 80
many smaller, more specialized commodity type contractors. They threaten the much larger
contractors such as Northern as they are able to accept RFP s on very thin margins with little to no
overhead. With mining companies being very price sensitive, it hurt Northern Drilling as they were

The Transportation Security Administration ( Tsa )
Introduction
The Transport Security Administration (TSA) is an American agency which is under the Department
of Homeland Security and it has the authority and control of all the traveling public in the USA. It was
formed as a reaction to the September 11, terrorist attacks in the country. It was created under the
Aviation and Transport Security Act which was supported by Don Young who was a House of
representative member. It was employed into law by President George Bush on November 19, 2001. It
was first placed in the Department of Transportation, later on, it was placed in the Homeland
Department. The agency is mostly concerned air travel and the provide the screening activities in the
airport, ensure ad provide armed Federal Air Marshal s on different planes and ensure there is no
illegal weapon which may cause harm to the people on board. They also maintain a system of the
wanted individual and the ones which might cause security risk in the aviation industry. They ensure
that these individuals are not permitted in any airport for security purposes (Grover, 2015).
The agency also ensures the security of major highways, buses, pipelines and even railroads. Airports
which hire other firms to do the screening in the airports are provided with the license below the
screening Partnership Program and they are required to follow the set procedures. The agency has to
ensure that the level of security provided by these firms is of the highest order in accordance with the

What Was The Point Of British Incorporation In The Mid-1700 s
India and America, now two of the largest established countries in the world, were once coerced into
being pawns in a greater British Empire at on time or another. America being settled through the
crown s permission and India s trade being influenced heavily to the point of British incorporation in
the mid 1700 s. Both watched as the British stepped over to force the ruled into submission per the
Crown s benefit. America had to deal with Taxation without representation in which the populace was
unfairly overtaxed to pay for British debts while Indians withstood attacks against their culture,
religions and personal independence while having their resources syphoned out, subjecting the people
to British decisions and customs without any consideration for the governed. These two scenarios not

Not only that, but since British rule was definite in America, it seemed as though nobody could come
to rescue American colonists, for British legislature would just make life harder for everybody
involved in whatever form of protest through policy such as keeping ports closed or quartering troops
or rewards for finding dissenters. Not only were there issues directly caused by Britain, but there was
infighting about what direction America should go in. With so many British loyalists in the picture
supporting British rule, it was difficult for Americans to stay United against the crown without a big
reason for it. After the Boston Massacre of 1770, in which 5 colonists died. Americans had all the
reason to question the unfair acts set forth by the British. This paved the reasoning to start the violent
Revolutionary war. The only way for anybody to stand against Britain at this point was to use violence
as free speech directed against the crown was considered treason. Anybody who spoke against British
rule was taken care of , so to

Facial Recognition System
CHAPTER 1 FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A biometrics is, Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical or
behavioral characteristics. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a
task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully.
In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly
processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show a
similar face existing in database else it is unknown.
Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several
practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition
system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the human
face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work perfectly after a few
years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in order to verify the person.
Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of the face recognition system.
Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand, because we recognize or identify
different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition process used by the human brain for
identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now become essential to have reliable security
systems in

The Fair Labor Standards Act Essay
The Fair Labor Standards Act The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) was passed by Congress on June
25th, 1938. The main objective of the act was to eliminate labor conditions detrimental to the
maintenance of the minimum standards of living necessary for health, efficiency and well being of
workers, [1] who engaged directly or indirectly in interstate commerce, including those involved in
production of goods bound for such commerce. A major provision of the act established a maximum
work week and minimum wage. Initially, the minimum wage was $0.25 per hour, along with a
maximum workweek of 44 hours for the first year, 42 for the second year and 40 thereafter. Minimum
wages of $0.25 per hour were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wage Standards and Exemptions Covered nonexempt workers are entitled to a minimum wage of not
less than $5.15 an hour. Overtime pay at a rate of not less than one and one half times their regular rate
of pay is required after 40 hours of work in a workweek. Wages required by FLSA are due on the
regular payday for the pay period covered. Who is Covered? All employees of certain enterprises
having workers engaged in interstate commerce, producing goods for interstate commerce, or
handling, selling, or otherwise working on goods or materials that have been moved in or produced for
such commerce are covered by FLSA. Employees of firms which are not covered enterprises under
FLSA still may be subject to its minimum wage, overtime pay, and child labor provisions if they are
individually engaged in interstate commerce or in the production of goods for interstate commerce, or
in any closely related process or occupation directly essential to such production. Recent Changes to
FLSA The U.S Department of Labor (DOL) has strengthened overtime rights for 6.7 million American
workers, including 1.3 million salaried white collar employees who were denied overtime pay under
previous rules.

Character Analysis Of Lulamae Barnes
First of all there is the novella s heroine Holly Golightly, using this promising pseudonym instead of
her humble actual name Lulamae Barnes. She is an orphan from Texas, who became the child wife of
an elderly but kind hearted veterinarian, Doc, who took her and her brother in, before she eloped and
was discovered by the agent O. J. Berman, by the narrative s time her loyal friend and protector, who
tried to turn her into a Hollywood actress, which first brought her to California and later to New York.
She comes across (...) even when she opens her mouth and you don t know if she s a hillbilly or an
Okie or what. My guess, nobody ll ever know where she came from. She s such a goddamn liar,

Yet, it is through the gaps in her stories, the things she refuses to speak about, that we gain a sense of
the self under the mask. The painful history of her childhood, only hinted at by Doc s arrival, makes
up one of the biggest explanations of her persona which we only become aware of in her relationship
with the narrator, who she mainly comes to trust because he reminds her of her brother Fred, a soldier
in the army, who seems to be the one person that she truly loves. Through her accounts of her past to
the narrator, who she also calls Fred a very important narrative tool, which we will come back to later
we learn that her actual wish is to gain enough money an independence, most probably trough
marriage and subsequent divorce , to buy a ranch in Mexico with her brother as soon as he returns.
The moment is symbolized with her taking of the sunglasses she wears to mask her eyes, marking one
of two moments where she truly opens

What is a cult? The purpose of a cult is so an individual and/or group claiming to be sent by God, to
rule the one true religion. To become a cult member you must believe the exact same things in the
exact same ways with no room for differences. Entering a cult is a lifetime commitment. Systems of
intimidation are used to veer the people from ever thinking about getting out. More specifically, a cult

they will be looked more into as terroristic attacks, and acts of evil. The people in power can no longer
overlook these torturous activities and allow the people to get away with them. We must treat ever

Spoon River Anthology Poem
With happiness in relationships continuing to decline as well at the rate of divorces rising it is no
surprise that marriage and love has lost the value it once had. Edgar Lee Masters writer of the Spoon
River Anthology also seems to feel that romantic relationships have also lost its value during his time.
He is able to display this though several of his poems within the anthology. His unhappiness with love,
romance, relationships and marriage are shown through his poems that illustrate unhappy marriages as
well as the deaths connected to them.
Edgar Lee Masters uses the poem of Amanda Barker in order to show his own views of relationships.

The Depositional Environment, Petrology, Mineralogy,...
The purpose of this paper is to explain the depositional environment, petrology, mineralogy, structure,
exploration, technology, methods of extraction and processing, as well as the applications and
economics of oil in the Greater Green River Basin. This paper will mainly focus on the oil shale
within the basin but will also touch on some of the more conventional oil and gas plays as well.
According to Crawford and Killen (2010), Oil Shale is defined as being a sedimentary rock embedded
with organic material called kerogen... and has not been under the necessary heat, pressure, and/or
depth for the right length of time to form crude oil . Oil shale is typically found in silica and carbonate
based rocks that are usually no greater than 900 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the United States current demand for oil at roughly 20 million barrels per day, this resource
could potential last for another 400 years. These types of numbers suggest that if low cost production
methods can be developed and used effectively to recover the oil, the economic benefits would be
great. In the following paper I intend to give clear and succinct information on how oil shale was
deposited in the Greater Green River Basin, what it is made of, what was the maturation history of the
shale, how the oil is recovered from very impermeable sedimentary units, how economics will play a
role in its future as a reliable energy source, as well as the environmental impact of oil production in
the basin.
Structure of the Greater Green River Basin
The Greater Green River Basin is a basin located in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. The mountains
that surround the basin are the Wind River Mountains and Granite Mountains (Sweetwater Arch) to
the north, the Uinta Mountains to the south, the Wyoming thrust belt to the west, and the Sierra Madre
Mountains and the Rawlins Uplift to the East. The Great Green River Basin is further subdivided into
sub basins as mentioned earlier by intrabasinal anticlines. The largest anticline occupies the central
portion of the basin and nearly separates the basin into equal east and west segments. There are also
several other anticlinal

Cincher Should Not Be Allowed Persuasive Speech
Let s start with plus size waist cinchers or plus size waist shapers, are a wide belt like garment worn

a more feminine hourglass shape. Made to be firm control shapewear, the material used is quite thick
and don t really have much give. Now this is by no means a bad thing otherwise how would it do its
job? A good waist cincher is designed to really hold in that gut and reduce your waist by at least 1.5/2

The United States of America s economy and military is far too involved in foreign affairs. Foreign
affairs are policies of a government in dealing with other countries or with activities overseas,
government offices or departments. The United States has always been involved in Foreign affairs
since its creation. Although foreign affairs are vital for the sake of the United States of America, the

Many people ask whether or not the nation is too involved in foreign affairs. There are many
arguments for both sides of the dilemma, but one side poses more evidence than the other. The United
States is far too involved around the world through its economy and military dealings with other
countries and organizations.
The United States economy has always been a major part of the world economy as a whole. Through
the United States borrowing money and buying imports to the United States bailing out big global
companies and exporting goods all around the world. Without imports, the United States would not
have many of the goods that we do. On the same hand, if the United States did not export goods, other
countries would not have necessary products. We export and import everything from petroleum
products to grains and food products that feed the world. Yes, it is good that the United States is
involved in foreign affairs such as global trade, because not only the United States depends on it, but
the countries that the United States exports to depend on United States products. The United States
brings in millions of dollars from selling exports such as corn, soybeans, and cash crops such as
tobacco. But because of the global trade market being a two way street, the United States imports a lot
of goods. Due to that, the United States economy is spending more than it can afford. It has amassed a
very large debt. The

The Difference Between Egenarianism And Egalitarianism
Due to this topic s controversy in the evangelical church, I am very grateful to learn about these two
different views. The variation of the views even within the egalitarian and complementarian
perspectives was interesting. It reminded me that in ourselves alone unity cannot be found. Only in
Christ can we obtain unity displaying a countercultural attribute that reflects His light and hope for
this world. I am praying for our Great God s faithful help in this.
Egalitarian Perspective In learning about the egalitarian perspective from Linda L. Belleville and
Craig S. Keener, the bottom line difference between egalitarians and complementarians seems to be
the extent of which women can lead men. The egalitarian believes scripture supports mutual ministry
opportunity for both genders. Belleville states Egalitarian is to believe in the mutual gifting of women
and men . (35) Keener s four options of viewing women in ministry is also very helpful. The fourth
option is The Bible permits women s ministry under normal circumstances but prohibits it in
exceptional cases, in which case we should allow it under most circumstances today (Gundry, Beck
206). The egalitarian view is not about who has authority over a congregation, but by grace is given to
believers through Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit, empowerment is given both genders to
minister to the congregation and equip the saints for ministry. Authority is given to Jesus Christ. The
command scripture gives to

American Attitudes Toward Homelessness
Over the past 15 years, homelessness has been one of the more noticeable social problems in the
United States, but . With tens of thousands of homeless on the streets or in temporary housing
situations on any given night and no near term end in sight, finding ways to best support the homeless
becomes paramount to the well being of the homeless (Zaff, 2010). Although there are some
suggestions that American attitudes toward homelessness have hardened over time, there have not
been adequate experiments to back up this claim. According to (Daves Kingree, 1997) older people
hold less stigmatizing attitudes when it came to homeless people. When it came to college students
however, the findings were quite different. (Ostrow, 1995) states that as for students, self

Radio And Optical Wireless Communication
This collaborative effort outlines a comprehensive framework to apply novel radio and optical
wireless communications with channel coding to develop energy efficient and secure links for the
problem of limited spectrum resource in future wireless applications. In particular, the project aims to
study the fundamental properties and develop practical solutions for a hybrid RF/optical system that
combines energy efficient ultra wideband architectures with secure and RF spectrum saving optical
technology.
Future mobile applications demand novel wireless communication technologies to address the new
challenges associated with the shortage of radio spectrum [1 5], the need for low power radio
architectures
[6 9], and secure communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key idea is to combine the advantages of localized short range
UWB IR and longer range optical wireless communication, and use jointly optimized LDPC coding to
improve the link reliability with low complexity encoder and decoder circuits. To achieve these goals,
as illustrated in Fig. 1, the proposed research will also focus on designing the UWB/optical relaying
circuits and hybrid communication protocol, exploiting network diversity and coding for hybrid
channels, and investigating low complexity LDPC encoder/decoder circuits with soft information for
UWB IR.
The advantages of UWB IR and optical communication compensate each other s shortcomings very
well, as illustrated in Fig 1. For example, UWB IR is power efficient; however, to achieve ultra low
power, the transmission distance of UWB must be short (sometimes less than 1 meter). When a longer
range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases dramatically since the
received power varies as d−γ, where d is the transmission distance and γ is the path loss exponent [36
38]. In other words, increasing RF transmission distance will significantly shorten the battery lifetime.
This power/distance trade off of UWB can be alleviated by employing a UWB/optical relaying device.
The stationary relaying devices use dedicated power lines so the battery powered UWB terminals can

The Discovery Of North America
The discovery of North America sparked a new era of exploration, expansion, and colonization. Many
European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper
financially and benefit their home country as much as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as
was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony.
Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americas had
their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than others.
Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a new land
for their country.
The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in Hispaniola and
Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their territory. An explorer named
Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the Aztecs, which was far richer and larger than
any town in Spain. When invited into the city, Cortes sought to conquer, enslave and steal from the
wealthy city. By forming many alliances with Native tribes who hated the Aztecs, the Spanish
overtook the city, showing no mercy towards their enemies. They enslaved those they didn t kill, and
disassembled some of the former Aztec pyramids into Christian Cathedrals. Cortes was eventually
named governor of Mexico after his victory. The Spanish had more urban establishments in the

Major League Baseball Impose Salary Caps For Athletes
Should Major League Baseball Impose Salary Caps for Athletes?
There are many professional athletes who are overpaid a tremendous amount of money. For example,
in 2013 the New York Yankees third basemen Alex Rodriguez s salary was $29,000,000. Another
athlete that was overpaid was the Philadelphia Phillies first basemen Ryan Howard. During the 2011
postseason, he tore his Achilles tendon and had to miss most of 2012 season because he was on the
disabled list. He had a salary of $20,000,000 for 2012 and only played 71 games out of 162. Major
League Baseball should impose a salary cap on athletes because athletes are being overpaid, they are
signing big contracts, and some are not performing well.
Many people believe that professional baseball

Hard Power on Iran
Paper 1 This paper will show that the US and its allies should take a more Hard Power approach when
it comes to nuclear program of Iran. The paper will show how Iran cannot be trusted, due to its history
of braking its word, and how the deals that we have made so far shows that the world is giving them
the ability to create nuclear weapons. Also I will show how the resent agreements mad heave not done
enough to stop Iran from gaining nuclear weapons. The first thing we have to look at is how
trustworthy has Iran been in the past. If Iran cannot be trusted then a Soft Power approach will not
work. The U.N. had already found the country in violation of its international agreements in 2003
(Obama s Iran Gamble) Iran was caught red handed violating its U.N. treaty obligations when it built a
secret uranium enrichment facility in the mountains near the town of Fordow.(Obama s Iran Gamble)
This shows that Iran cannot be trusted to follow any diplomatic agreements. No matter what
interoperations are given, Iran s right to enrichment has been recognized, (FoxNews) said the Iranian
president Rouhani after the resent nuclear deal was reached. This is perhaps one of the biggest
arguments against the new deal, or any other deal that allows Iran to continue to run the nineteen
thousand centrifuges that Iran currently operates. (FoxNews) This states that by allowing Iran to
continue to manufacture nuclear material we are recognizing its right to make nuclear material. This is

Personal Integrity Analysis
The development of a personal statement As I consider the diverse elements within character
education, I believe integrity is the central principle sustains my professional, civic, and personal
relationships. Integrity is shown within these fellowships just mentioned when my words and actions
agree with my value system. For example if I say I will pick you up every Sunday morning up at eight

relationship in my life is fortified with the truth and trust founded in integrity. Integrity powerful to me

Arguments Against Poaching
Like all big issues in our world, there is an argument being made. The argument is not whether
poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should go
about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind
poaching, those who buy poached ivory for example, is more important than stopping poachers on the
ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than providing
funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has
become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. They believe rangers need access to modern
weapons and technology, training and funding. They argue if the poachers have it, the rangers trying to
stop them need to have it too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We re not talking about dudes running around in soccer jerseys with machetes they re decked out like
the mercenaries from Predator (Pathan). Like Asgar, I support the second side of the argument. In
order to stop the poaching epidemic our planet suffers from the global anti poaching community must
come together groups of rangers in the field, as well as larger organizations, and give them the rights
and the support any soldier would receive in a war. If we don t treat the war on poaching like an actual
war, and we don t treat poachers like active combatants, and rangers like soldiers, there is no hope in
stopping the illegal killings and saving the species that have been hunted to near

Socio-Erapo-Social-Work Theory And Social Work
Introduction Throughout the social work profession, there is ongoing interest in building a social
science agenda that can address the complex practice based questions faced by social work
professionals today, says Matto and Goltzman (2010). As a social worker it is vital, to use our tools
and skills we have learned in order to assist our clients to the best of our ability and knowledge. Social
workers can use models and theories such as the bio psycho social model, development factors, as
well as, theoretical perspectives in order to gain a firm understanding of the individual s environment
and how it effects their development. These theories have helped to attempt us to understand and
explain human behavior, relationship, and social issues; however, this theory has taught social workers
what we practice on an everyday basis and how we interact and intergrade with society through,
evidence based practice helps understand human behavior. Emma is a five year old girl who has
experienced a significant amount of trauma for her age, in both educational and home environments.
As a result, Emma struggles with behavioral issues that have brought forth possible developmental

The Bandura Study Essay
The Bandura Study
A) The Bandura study aimed to see if children copying aggression that they see in adults. In the study
a male or female model was aggressive toward a bobo doll, the children were then observed to see if
they imitated any behaviour shown by the model, or if they were/weren t aggressive. There were also
2 control groups, one of which had seen a non aggressive male/female model and another group was
observed after seeing no model.
The results showed that the children were more aggressive when they had seen the aggressive model.
Boys were, on average, more aggressive than girls. The gender of the model also had an affect on the
behaviour of the children. Boys were more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may have made the child more aggressive than it would usually have been which would show
that child as being more aggressive and so affecting the results. There was also a big cultural change
in the years following Banduras study. When this study took place there were very stereotypical views
of men and women, this means that the children may have been reluctant to copy the behaviour of the
aggressive female model, but were more likely to copy the behaviour of the aggressive male model,
because society at the time expected more aggression from men. Girls may also have been less
aggressive at that time because it was what was expected from society and vice versa with the boys.
2. Another problem with snapshot studies as they really go against the point of developmental
psychology. They don t look at how children develop and change over time, a snapshot just looks at
one aspect over a very short period of time. Generalisations are then made of all children and young
people, from the results of a few children of a certain age. In the Bandura study he used children of a
nursery age and observed them for only 20mins; the results are then seen has having big implications
on television and computer games. The results could have been like they were because children of that
age are impressionable or that they feel that they have to copy adults more than older children,

Essay on Congress And The Change In Term Limits
Congress and The Change in Term Limits
In 1994, for the first time in 40 years, Congress was drastically changed. The
Democratic majority was uprooted and new, lively, freshmen were instated with a job to undertake. As
part of the Republican=s AContract with America,@ these new Republicans had to revise the current
Congressional term limit status. In undertaking this task, these men and women ran into a seemingly
stone road block.
This roadblock consisted of long term, carreerists who were unwilling to change.
The problem was not that there were no Congressmen who were committed to real change elected in
1994 because there were, but Congress was highly dominated by long term careerists in both parties
who seemed to have more loyalty to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And now the Supreme Court refuses to allow the people to approve term limits. This fact shows the
importance of developing new strategies for subjecting members of the U.S. Congress to term limits.
There are many ways in which this could occur, but before one can decide which might be the most
effective, one must first realize why they are so necessary.
The election of 1994 was supposed to be one of dramatic change. Three dozen
Democratic incumbents fell, but the overall House reelection rate still ran roughly 90 percent with 314
of the 348 members remaining unmoved, and the Senate reelection rate ran 92 percent with 24 of the
26 members up for election unmoved.
Absolutely no Republican incumbents, no matter how flawed, lost in the election of 1994. These sad
statistics show that no matter revolutionary the voters get, most incumbents still win, and careerists
still largely dominate policy. Edward H. Crane states that, quot; Those who run for Congress these
days are generally those who find the prospect of spending a significant portion of their lives as a
politician to be an attractive option. Politicians are less likely to have a real life before entering
politics. Many political pros start out as state legislators in their early twenties and never stop. (Crane
(2), p. 251)
Validating this statement is Senator Warren Rudman, a Republican from New
Hampshire, who explained that he retired because quot;the longer you stay in public

The United States And Japan
There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the
increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations
placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble brewing
between the United States and Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl Harbour in
December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of propaganda from the
press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were numerous calls to the
Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the Pacific Coast. On the 19th day
of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker
and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About
120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and non citizens were evacuated from the West
Coast in what Lt. General John DeWitt said was compelled by military necessity (Wheeler, Becker
and Glover 244). The most convincing and reliable evidence reveals that the removal and
incarceration of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor did not meet the clear and present danger test.
I do not agree with the Supreme Court s decision. During the evacuation process, Fred Korematu, a
Japanese American, sought to evade the ordeal by concealing his identity by using a plastic surgery
and using a forged identity. Fred was

Theme Of Goodnight Mist Tom
Introduction
William Beech is the protagonist, the main character, in the plot of Michelle Magorian s Goodnight
Mister Tom. A plot is the course of action in a literary work. He is evacuated from London during the
merge of World War II to a little village, Little Weirwold, at the country side north of the city.
As he arrives he is just an unloved, shy, uncared for and abused 8 year old boy. But as time goes by in
Little Weirwold, William transforms into a self confident, happy boy.
As community is an important theme of the book, one could trace that the two contrasting settings
influence Will s development. A theme is the underlying interpretation of the literary work.
In this essay I will argue that the contrasting communities in London ... Show more content on

The comradiere community of Little Weirwold enhances Will s development.
He is continuously involved in the community. In several passages throughout the book, it is stated
that Will is developing as he lives in Little Weirwold, mainly because of the camaraderie the mutual
trust and friendship within the community.
The whole community is taking one for the team as many of the residents take in evacuees. Everyone
knows about everyone as it is a close and small community. Everyone tries to help everyone, the
citizens are supportive and assist Tom in helping William to settle down in Little Weirwold. They are
being welcoming to the evacuees.
When they were welcoming the evacuees into Little Weirwold, the children invited Will to a picnic.
When everyone was reasonably settled, Mr. Peters stood in front of the congregation and clasped his
hands. Good morning, he began. Now I know we have several denominations gathered here today,
especially amongst our new visitors, who I hope will be happy and safe inside our homes. If any one

Milton Friedman, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Profits
In the article, The Social Responsibility of Business Is to Increase Profits, Friedman states that
businessmen believe that they are defending free enterprise when they proclaim that business is not
concerned merely with profit but also with promoting desirable social ends. This social responsibility
is defined as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is the belief that corporations owe a
greater duty to their communities and stakeholders by having a social conscience. This, among other
things, includes being environmentally responsible, contributing to non profit organizations, and
eliminating discrimination.
Friedman argues that only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because corporations are established to profit and shareholders invest money with expectations of a
greater return, managers cannot be given a directive to be socially responsible without providing
specific criteria of checks and balances to which needs to adhere. Therefore, it is imperative to the
success of a corporation for managers to not act solely but rather to act within the policies of the
shareholders.
What Friedman implies is that shareholders should only be concerned with maximizing profits and not
be obligated to be socially responsible. In that case, the manager would only have one priority, to
maximize profits. However, what if that manager determined that social endeavors is the best option
to maximize profits? This would make the corporation socially responsible while still maintaining
maximum profits. The argument presented by Friedman in this case is that while the manager is
performing as expected by maximizing profits, this type of social responsibility is frequently a cloak
for actions that are justified on other grounds rather than a reason for those actions.
This cloak refers to corporations acting socially responsible but for the sole purpose of making profits
rather than performing such endeavors for the sole purpose of benefiting society. An example would
be a solar company providing free electricity to a campus in exchange for use land to promote

Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok
depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders.
The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David
Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn
more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and
knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and
pursue personal excellence.
These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys
were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to
become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved
psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow
Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing.
Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library
to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he
wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it
would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of
education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow
their dreams the boys needed an education.
The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb
Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny
and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be
strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having
hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should forgive
Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in

Pros And Cons Of Cognitive Biases
The purpose of this leadership issue paper is to address the effects cognitive biases have on decision
making, thus by stating the merits and demerits of cognitive biases as they pertain to
management/leadership and healthcare. This leadership issue paper is organized using a systematic
approach where the reader can distinctly identify the pros and cons of cognitive biases on decision
making. It is the author s belief that cognitive biases do more harm than help in the process of decision
making. The paper includes four scholarly articles to support the author s position with a
recommendation and provide the reader with a perspective on the relationship between cognitive
biases and decision making.
Introduction Faced with the imperfectability of decision making, researchers have sought to achieve
an optimal way where people can make decisions if not perfect, at least that will deliver a better
outcome. Whether it is a manager trying to hire people, a nurse/doctor trying to make a clinical
decision, and or a lay person trying to decide what to eat for lunch we all decide in some shape way or
form. One of the ways decision making can be affected is through cognitive biases. In general term,
bias refers to an inclination or prejudice for or against one person or group, especially in a way
considered to be unfair (Oxford English Dictionary). These inclinations are mostly driven ... Show

Food In Thai Food
For many people in Thailand today, food has become a very important aspect of any holiday
celebration and special occasions. In the American western cuisine today, a regular restaurant quality
meal consists of appetizers, followed by the main course, and ends with a serving of dessert, where
each person would order his or her own food. In Thailand it s the complete opposite to the American
cuisine where they would never have any structure in their meals like beginning with appetizers and
ending with dessert. In Thai cuisine the number of dishes is based on the number of people there are
around the table, so for example if there are ten people, then ten dishes would be order. One
interesting aspect about Thai cuisine is that everyone sitting around the table would equally share their
food, so that no one would get stuck with eating the same plate of food, everyone gets the opportunity
to enjoy the unique flavors of all the different dishes. The main reason that the Thais share their food
is because they believe that it is bad luck for them to eat alone and they see that each meal is a big
celebration of social and friendly interactions.
When the Thais finished eating all of their food, they would pack up all of the leftover foods from the
meal and store it in the refrigerator to eat the next day. The people of Thailand have a strong belief that
throwing away food is a very sinful thing to do since it will dishonor and anger the Thai god causing

promising to increase that number to 50,000 in the coming years. To tackle the high volume task of

Augustus Caesar Legacy Essay
Augustus Caesar: The Caesar Legacy
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power. , said
Abraham Lincoln. Power can be either be a wonderful thing in the hands of the right person, or a
dangerous thing in the hands of the wrong person. However, Abraham Lincoln draws the conclusion
on the fact of how power can even corrupt a person who has overcome many difficulties in life, and
may believe they can also withstand the substantial effect power can have on a person. And if
someone truly wants to understand the personality of someone, give them power and see how they
handle it. The idea of power and the abuse of power has been seen all throughout history, with the
leader s promise of taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustus ended up getting married three times, although his first union, to Mark Antony s
stepdaughter Clodia Pulchra, was unconsummated.( Augustus. ) His second wife, Scribonia, gave birth
to his only child, Julia the Elder. He divorced Julia in 39 B.C. to marry Livia Drusilla, who already
had two sons Tiberius and Drusus by her first husband, Mark Antony s ally Tiberius Claudius Nero. (
Augustus. ) The family tree became more complicated after Augustus had his stepson Tiberius briefly
marry his daughter, and then adopted Tiberius outright as son and successor in A.D. 4. ( Augustus. )
Augustus Caesar died on August 19 in A.D. 14, his empire secured and at peace. His reported last
words were twofold: to his subjects he said, I found Rome of clay; I leave it to you of marble, but to
the friends who had stayed with him in his rise to power he added, Have I played the part well? Then
applaud me as I exit. ( Augustus. ) The Roman senate declared Augustus, just like Julius Caesar, a god
after his death. Augustus legacy lives on even after his death. During his reign, he had created a time
of peace, or Pax Romana, which carried on at least a hundred years in Rome after his death. Massive
buildings and temples dedicated to Roman gods (like the Temple of Apollo Palatinus), those ruins are
still there today. Augustus complete control of authority lead to later emperors of Rome were limited
to the powers and titles given to Augustus, some even dropping some of the powers. Augustus also
Rome it s first municipal prefect in a permanent office, along with the first police and fire forces. He
built up Rome s army, often recruiting from recently conquered

School Pass Research Paper
Little did I know the school pass I received from the office ended up being more than what I had
originally thought. As a sophomore, I knew that most of the passes were for guidance appointments or
doctor s appointment. After the pass was handed to me, several thoughts ran through my mind. What
is this pass for? Maybe this is just for an appointment I had completely forgotten about. Or could I be
in trouble? My legs moved quickly down the stairs and through the main hallway, shuffling in
between people to get to the main office. After getting to the office and taking a quick glance out the
windows, I saw what looked like my sister s car. I wondered what she was doing at the school,
considering she had graduated that summer. I realized this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I looked up to her desire to help people and better herself at the same time. In the beginning, I
struggled with her not being around. It was a lot of change all at once, not only for me but also my
family. She was the person I went to for anything and everything. Knowing the distance between us
existed was what made everything so hard. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that
I wasn t able to just walk down the hallway or take a short drive to see my best friend. The shortest
trip to see her would be by an airplane. I thought I would be able to talk to her all the time but this was
not the case. As time went on, I began to understand that school came first for her and that I needed to
let her study and make new friends. I learned to be patient and that she would get ahold of me when
her time was not occupied. She got to come home for breaks, so that made things easier for our family
too. When she had the opportunity to come home for breaks, our relationship remained constant. It s
like we picked up where we left off when she left. She filled in the room she grew up in as if she d
never left, took me on drives with the music blaring through the windows, and continued to give me
fashion advice no matter how much she complained about

Assessment And Treatment Of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia
Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Julia Mangum East Carolina University
Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Adductor spasmodic dysphonia
(ADSD) is a voice disorder due to central motor processing abnormalities which result in decreased
control of the laryngeal muscles (Blitzer, 2010). The idiopathic disorder is characterized by
involuntary spasms of the laryngeal muscles controlling vocal fold adduction (National Spasmodic
Dysphonia Association, 2012). The dysphonic characteristics presented by patients with ADSD are
described as strained, strangled, and effortful due to irregular adductions of the vocal folds and the
occlusion of air through the vocal tract during phonation(Blitzer,2010; Cannito, Doiuchi, Murry
Woodson, 2012). Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) present with similar perceptual vocal
characteristics however, treatment for the two disorders is quite different. Speech language
pathologists often have difficulty diagnosing and distinguishing between ADSD, a neurological
disorder, and MTD, a functional voice disorder (Rees et al., 2007). Correct diagnosis is important and
objective measures, such as spectral analysis, are more sufficient in distinguishing the two
disorders(Rees et al., 2007). ADSD has a neurologic etiology but the exact cause is still unknown (Lee
et al., 2003). Tanner et al. (2009) identified mumps, meningitis, tremor, cancer, and convulsive
behaviors as factors that

The Democratic Peace Theory
The democratic peace theory was not always seen as the substantial argument and significant
contribution to the field of International Relations that it is today. Prior to the 1970 s, it was the realist
and non realist thought that took preeminence in political theoretical thinking. Though the democratic
peace theory was first criticized for being inaccurate in its claim that democracy promotes peace and
as such democracies do not conflict with each other, trends, statistical data, reports have suggested and
proved that the democratic peace theory is in fact valid in its claim. Over the years having been
refined, developed and amended, it is now most significant in explaining modern politics and it is easy
to accept that there is indeed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also different levels of analysis when it comes to the democratic peace theory. On one hand
the there is a dyadic which refers to democratic states have good and peaceful relations with other
democratic states while the opposite is true of their relations with non democratic states. Secondly
there is a monadic way of analyzing the democratic peace theory. In this case, democracies are
peaceful states overall and will only go into conflict with democratic or undemocratic states when
threatened or under attack.
Immanuel Kant s work is often said to be the starting point of the democratic peace theory. In his
essays, he proposes his peace plan by listing out six preliminary articles which he argued were steps
that had to be taken immediately. He also listed three definitive articles which included that the civil
constitution of every state should be republican, that the law of nations shall be founded on a
federation of free states and lastly that the law of world citizenship shall be limited to conditions of
universal hospitality, upon these, the foundation of peace could be built. Although Immanuel Kant
never mentioned democracy per say, his ideas were very similar to ideas that pertain to democracy. He
referred to republican states which were to be representative governments and where there was a
separation of powers.

For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully. In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show a similar face existing in database else it is unknown. Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the human face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work perfectly after a few years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in order to verify the person. Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of the face recognition system. Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand, because we recognize or identify different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition process used by the human brain for identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now become essential to have reliable security systems in ... The variation of the views even within the egalitarian and complementarian perspectives was interesting. It reminded me that in ourselves alone unity cannot be found. Only in Christ can we obtain unity displaying a countercultural attribute that reflects His light and hope for this world. I am praying for our Great God s faithful help in this. Egalitarian Perspective In learning about the egalitarian perspective from Linda L. Belleville and Craig S. Keener, the bottom line difference between egalitarians and complementarians seems to be the extent of which women can lead men. The egalitarian believes scripture supports mutual ministry opportunity for both genders. Belleville states Egalitarian is to believe in the mutual gifting of women and men . (35) Keener s four options of viewing women in ministry is also very helpful. The fourth option is The Bible permits women s ministry under normal circumstances but prohibits it in exceptional cases, in which case we should allow it under most circumstances today (Gundry, Beck 206). Future mobile applications demand novel wireless communication technologies to address the new challenges associated with the shortage of radio spectrum [1 5], the need for low power radio architectures [6 9], and secure communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The key idea is to combine the advantages of localized short range UWB IR and longer range optical wireless communication, and use jointly optimized LDPC coding to improve the link reliability with low complexity encoder and decoder circuits. To achieve these goals, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the proposed research will also focus on designing the UWB/optical relaying circuits and hybrid communication protocol, exploiting network diversity and coding for hybrid channels, and investigating low complexity LDPC encoder/decoder circuits with soft information for UWB IR. The advantages of UWB IR and optical communication compensate each other s shortcomings very well, as illustrated in Fig 1. For example, UWB IR is power efficient; however, to achieve ultra low power, the transmission distance of UWB must be short (sometimes less than 1 meter). When a longer range is demanded, the power consumption of the UWB transceiver increases dramatically since the received power varies as d−γ, where d is the transmission distance and γ is the path loss exponent [36 38]. In other words, increasing RF transmission distance will significantly shorten the battery lifetime. This power/distance trade off of UWB can be alleviated by employing a UWB/optical relaying device. The stationary relaying devices use dedicated power lines so the battery powered UWB terminals can save ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper financially and benefit their home country as much as possible. The trip overseas was strenuous, as was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony. Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americas had their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than others. Britain, France, and Spain were the three most successful countries in terms of colonizing a new land for their country. The Spanish were amongst the best explorers at the time, establishing settlements in Hispaniola and Mexico. They were looking for wealth, power, and to expand their territory. An explorer named Hernan Cortes invaded the massive Native empire of the Aztecs, which was far richer and larger than any town in Spain. When invited into the city, Cortes sought to conquer, enslave and steal from the wealthy city. By forming many alliances with Native tribes who hated the Aztecs, the Spanish overtook the city, showing no mercy towards their enemies. No matter what interoperations are given, Iran s right to enrichment has been recognized, (FoxNews) said the Iranian president Rouhani after the resent nuclear deal was reached. This is perhaps one of the biggest arguments against the new deal, or any other deal that allows Iran to continue to run the nineteen thousand centrifuges that Iran currently operates. The argument is not whether poaching is a problem or not, it is obviously a problem, it is an argument on how humanity should go about stopping poaching. One side of that argument believes that going after the people behind poaching, those who buy poached ivory for example, is more important than stopping poachers on the ground . They would be more likely to support a United Nations sanction on poaching than providing funding for ranger groups. The other side of the argument is that the effort to stop poaching has become an all out war and needs to be treated as such. When this study took place there were very stereotypical views of men and women, this means that the children may have been reluctant to copy the behaviour of the aggressive female model, but were more likely to copy the behaviour of the aggressive male model, because society at the time expected more aggression from men. Girls may also have been less aggressive at that time because it was what was expected from society and vice versa with the boys. 2. This fact shows the importance of developing new strategies for subjecting members of the U.S. Congress to term limits. There are many ways in which this could occur, but before one can decide which might be the most effective, one must first realize why they are so necessary. The election of 1994 was supposed to be one of dramatic change. Three dozen Democratic incumbents fell, but the overall House reelection rate still ran roughly 90 percent with 314 of the 348 members remaining unmoved, and the Senate reelection rate ran 92 percent with 24 of the 26 members up for election unmoved. Absolutely no Republican incumbents, no matter how flawed, lost in the election of 1994. The United States And Japan There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble brewing between the United States and Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl Harbour in December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of propaganda from the press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were numerous calls to the Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the Pacific Coast. On the 19th day of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About 120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and non citizens were evacuated from the West Coast in what Lt. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because corporations are established to profit and shareholders invest money with expectations of a greater return, managers cannot be given a directive to be socially responsible without providing specific criteria of checks and balances to which needs to adhere. Therefore, it is imperative to the success of a corporation for managers to not act solely but rather to act within the policies of the shareholders. What Friedman implies is that shareholders should only be concerned with maximizing profits and not be obligated to be socially responsible. In that case, the manager would only have one priority, to maximize profits. However, what if that manager determined that social endeavors is the best option to maximize profits? This would make the corporation socially responsible while still maintaining maximum profits. The argument presented by Friedman in this case is that while the manager is performing as expected by maximizing profits, this type of social responsibility is frequently a cloak for actions that are justified on other grounds rather than a reason for those actions. This cloak refers to corporations acting socially responsible but for the sole purpose of making profits rather than performing such endeavors for the sole purpose of benefiting society. Reuven, who planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torah is not such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education. The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny and Reuven were best friends. In the American western cuisine today, a regular restaurant quality meal consists of appetizers, followed by the main course, and ends with a serving of dessert, where each person would order his or her own food. In Thailand it s the complete opposite to the American cuisine where they would never have any structure in their meals like beginning with appetizers and ending with dessert. In Thai cuisine the number of dishes is based on the number of people there are around the table, so for example if there are ten people, then ten dishes would be order. One interesting aspect about Thai cuisine is that everyone sitting around the table would equally share their food, so that no one would get stuck with eating the same plate of food, everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy the unique flavors of all the different dishes. The main reason that the Thais share their food is because they believe that it is bad luck for them to eat alone and they see that each meal is a big celebration of social and friendly interactions. It was a lot of change all at once, not only for me but also my family. She was the person I went to for anything and everything. Knowing the distance between us existed was what made everything so hard. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that I wasn t able to just walk down the hallway or take a short drive to see my best friend. The shortest trip to see her would be by an airplane. I thought I would be able to talk to her all the time but this was not the case. As time went on, I began to understand that school came first for her and that I needed to let her study and make new friends. I learned to be patient and that she would get ahold of me when her time was not occupied. She got to come home for breaks, so that made things easier for our family too. When she had the opportunity to come home for breaks, our relationship remained constant. It s like we picked up where we left off when she left. • 45. Assessment And Treatment Of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Julia Mangum East Carolina University Assessment and Treatment of Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia Adductor spasmodic dysphonia (ADSD) is a voice disorder due to central motor processing abnormalities which result in decreased control of the laryngeal muscles (Blitzer, 2010). The idiopathic disorder is characterized by involuntary spasms of the laryngeal muscles controlling vocal fold adduction (National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association, 2012). The dysphonic characteristics presented by patients with ADSD are described as strained, strangled, and effortful due to irregular adductions of the vocal folds and the occlusion of air through the vocal tract during phonation(Blitzer,2010; Cannito, Doiuchi, Murry Woodson, 2012). Patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) present with similar perceptual vocal characteristics however, treatment for the two disorders is quite different. Speech language pathologists often have difficulty diagnosing and distinguishing between ADSD, a neurological disorder, and MTD, a functional voice disorder (Rees et al., 2007). Correct diagnosis is important and objective measures, such as spectral analysis, are more sufficient in distinguishing the two disorders(Rees et al., 2007). ADSD has a neurologic etiology but the exact cause is still unknown (Lee et al., 2003). Tanner et al. (2009) identified mumps, meningitis, tremor, cancer, and convulsive behaviors as factors that ... • 46. The Democratic Peace Theory The democratic peace theory was not always seen as the substantial argument and significant contribution to the field of International Relations that it is today. Prior to the 1970 s, it was the realist and non realist thought that took preeminence in political theoretical thinking. Though the democratic peace theory was first criticized for being inaccurate in its claim that democracy promotes peace and as such democracies do not conflict with each other, trends, statistical data, reports have suggested and proved that the democratic peace theory is in fact valid in its claim. Over the years having been refined, developed and amended, it is now most significant in explaining modern politics and it is easy to accept that there is indeed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also different levels of analysis when it comes to the democratic peace theory. On one hand the there is a dyadic which refers to democratic states have good and peaceful relations with other democratic states while the opposite is true of their relations with non democratic states. Secondly there is a monadic way of analyzing the democratic peace theory. In this case, democracies are peaceful states overall and will only go into conflict with democratic or undemocratic states when threatened or under attack. Immanuel Kant s work is often said to be the starting point of the democratic peace theory. In his essays, he proposes his peace plan by listing out six preliminary articles which he argued were steps that had to be taken immediately. He also listed three definitive articles which included that the civil constitution of every state should be republican, that the law of nations shall be founded on a federation of free states and lastly that the law of world citizenship shall be limited to conditions of universal hospitality, upon these, the foundation of peace could be built. Although Immanuel Kant never mentioned democracy per say, his ideas were very similar to ideas that pertain to democracy. He referred to republican states which were to be representative governments and where there was a separation of powers. An issue that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
