This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix Arizona Analysis
In Sherman Alexie s short story, This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona we follow Victor and
Thomas along to their journey of change and revelation. Shortly after being laid off his job, Victor
gets the fatal news that his father, has died. Since Victor had been abandoned by his father at a young
age his character is negative, frustrated, angry, and confused. Having found out both things within the
same week made his outlook on life very pessimistic. Thomas, on the other hand, is the storyteller on
the reservation that nobody wants to listen to. He is lonely, positive, but has lived a sad life. After their
journey together, Victor finds out more about his dad s lifestyle and personality and builds a bond with
Thomas that would have never happened without the journey to Arizona. He goes from being
confused and angry, to happy and at peace with himself and his father. Thomas also experiences the
same emotions by the end of the journey. While they technically are not friends towards the end of the
story, they will be forever bonded by this journey and he helped his friendship with Victor get a little
deeper. Thanks to Thomas, Victor changes his perception of his dad and while doing so, helped
himself get close to someone from back at home. Author Sherman Alexie uses the journey to Arizona
to reveal and demonstrate change and the protagonist s lifestyle. While Victor lives a torn and
confused life because of his father s absence, his outlook on his father changes

Relationships Among Natives And Europeans
Grecia Loya
United States History
April 14, 2015 Relationships among the Natives and Europeans
The stories regarding the Native Americans and European settlers all commence somewhat similar:
the Natives welcome and help sustain the Europeans in the start. They become an instrumental piece
to the European survival in the Americas. The relationship starts to change, however, as settlers grow
independent. In some instances, when there is only personal gain to be acquired, the relationship
becomes a simple trade relationship. In other instances, relationships between the Native Americans
and Europeans evolve into a drastic feud driven by European imperialistic ideas to impose political,
religious and cultural law on the Natives. England has conquered many territories and established
colonies throughout history. In this English form of colonization, it is clear that there is an obvious
mission to intrude into native customs and force their own. They utilize the purest form of imperialism
to strip others of their customs and replace it with ones own in order to expand glory and gain for a
nation. The English colonists seeked to expand and establish English ideas into foreign cultures. In the
case with the Native Americans, the English did not see the Native Indians as equals in anyway
possible. They did not acknowledge their religion, particularly because it was not Christian based, nor
their law system, since it was not related to church based laws. Wherever

Kathryn Stockett The Help
The Help is a book about a white group of women and their black maids in Jackson, Mississippi. It
takes place in 1962, a time where black people were poorly treated and used to work.
Kathryn Stockett was born in 1969 in Jackson, Mississippi. Her childhood memories of black people
as domestic help were a normal way of life to her. The author felt awful that it took her 20 years to
understand the unjust treatment of blacks. That, and the fact that she wanted people to see through the
duplicity of things in the South, are the reason she wrote this controversial novel. Throughout the
1900s black people were treated cruelly and since 1962, the year the book was placed in, America has
come a long way. Segregation back then was an everyday

Canis Lupus Living Conditions
Canis Lupus is the most distributed land mammal, prior to human transport (Mech and Boitani
2003/2010). This has led to their extant to span 70 countries and four continents; although in some
regions they are completely extinct. These regions include Japan, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland,
Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom although there are very few individuals in
Austria and Switzerland, and Bangladesh. They dwell primarily in wilderness and remote areas with
the largest concentrations of their numbers congregating in northern regions living predominantly in
Canada and Russia (Harrington and Paquet 1982). The living conditions of Canis Lupus are widely
varied with some inhabitants living in forests, prairies, tundra,

Liberal Party Reforms
The Conservatives did more than the Liberal Party to advance the cause of reform in the period 1866
to 1885 Explain why you agree or disagree with this statement. During the period from 1866 until
1885 the electorate widened significantly from 1.3 million voters to 5.5 million. There were many
factors in the rising demand for Parliamentary reform such as; an increasing population, internal
migration, Radical and Trade Union campaigns, American Civil War, an economic depression and the
visit of Garibaldi. Alongside the extension of the franchise the political voting system became far less
corrupt and therefore results were a better representation of the people s beliefs. The Conservative and
Liberal Parties were the most influential throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1866 the Liberals failed to pass a very limited reform bill which would have enfranchised 400,000
men with no proposal to redistribute parliamentary seats. Although the bill was only limited it would
have still secured a change yet the Conservatives opposed it as it is still theirs, and not ours, and will
give them control of the boroughs for half a dozen years to come Disraeli. Under Gladstone s Liberal
Government there was a period of great electoral reform 1872 85. Firstly, in The Ballot Act 1872 was
passed. The Act made voting secret and therefore reduced bribery and corrupt practices greatly,
especially in Ireland, but not completely as there were ways of buying votes e.g. buying a beer.
However, it was not introduced by the Government, but by Edward Aldam Leatham, brother in law of
John Bright, in a Private Member s Bill, although we cannot commend the Government for passing
the bill Latham was a member of the Liberal Party. In 1883 the Government introduced The Corrupt
and Illegal Practices Act which was supported by Gladstone. The Act removed corruption during
general elections. Bribery and treating was prohibited, limits were set on the amount of money
candidates were able to spend daunting a constituency election campaign and agents and candidates
would be legally liable for any violations of the law. This Act was

Theodore Dalrymple s Summary Of What We Have To Lose
Damon Flueck Professor Marcos Arandia Introduction to Philosophy 8/10/17 After reading What we
have to lose By Theodore Dalrymple, I can conclude that it is a defense of civilization from barbarism.
Dalrymple puts forward his main arguments which many come from his own experience with details
and examples. Also, the article helps convey to the reader that the greatest threat to our great society
comes from within. Dalrymple s article helped enlighten me that today s society has grown so used to
civilization that it seems impossible to conceive that it is actually a delicate thing. Dalrymple s article
gives us an important lesson that even though we have countless amount of resources and technology
in today s world, society is not unconquerable, and it can vanish. Dalrymple s article has conveyed to
me that without civilization we wouldn t have any purpose in life , we would just be going around
killing each other for resources living like barbaric savages. An example of that would be when
Dalrymple s states civilization transcends barbarism, civilization was still worth defending. Indeed, it
is the only thing worth defending, because it is what gives, or should give, meaning to our lives. even
though we live in more efficient society, that doesn t mean something catastrophic can t happen again.
For example Dalrymple s was born around World War 2 when he was growing up, no one at that time
thought the holocaust could happen because how well establish Europe

Introduction Discussion of issue
Copyrights of distribution of Dallas Buyers Club (DBC) v iiNet Limited case over infringement of
copyrights. They complain that their copyrights were infringed by 4726 internet users downloading
and then sharing their work via torrent websites without paying for the privilege. DBC LLC s, Voltage

the personal details of the infringers linked to the IP addresses to 6 Internet Service Providers (ISP) to
recover the damages of copies download and upload by infringers.(DBC) wanted to recover the cost
of the purchase of a single copy of the film, for each copy download. A licence fee for each person
found to have also uploaded the film without copyrights and the court cost for expenses in retrieving
each downloader s name.
In April 2015, Justice Perram J considered the petition and passed a judgement to hand over the
personal details of the infringers linked to the IP addresses to Iinet Limited, INTERNODE, Adam
Internet, Dodo, Wideband and Ammnet Broadband.
Due to concerns about people receiving demands for large payments with treat of being sued by the

As a British protectorate, without having to contribute tax revenue to the United Kingdom, Guernsey
enjoys the national security, political stability and the advanced financial systems offered by the UK
Crown. Figures released as recently as January 30th 2013 from Guernsey Finance state that Guernsey
remains the domicile of incorporation for more non UK entities listed on the London Stock Exchange
(LSE) than any other jurisdiction globally ; meaning that Guernsey continues to provide a gateway to
accessing capital from around the world.
This convenient state of affairs is not without its challenges. To date, non EU member Guernsey has
resisted pressure from the EU to establish a level playing field with the EU members and set a
corporate tax rate of 10%. However, it is important to note that the pro forma calculations confirm that
even if Guernsey were to adopt a 10% levy on corporate taxation, Guernsey would still remain the
most profitable location for Quattroporte compared to Malta and Ireland.

She retraces the mountain of her ancestry every single day quietly. In the wind she can smell the scent
of her ancestors made from crushed pale blue leaves of the mountain. The smell is coming from up the
mountain side from which her ancestors descended from, where the mountain lion laid down and ate
their deer. It is better to be where she once came from, where her ancestors came from, up on that
mountain watching nature. The elderly that remember it once are all gone, the old songs of ancestors
are forgotten, and the story where it all began died with its memory. The memory of the culture dances

The protagonist looks deep into her soul to grab her ancestry. This is what allows her to use her senses
and find it in her every day bearing. The spirits of the ancestors roam the earth and go back up to that
mountain where she originated from. It is because of them that she can still remember her culture, it
lives within her and her surroundings. She is connected with the spirits and is unable to part with
them, there is almost an interdependency with them.
Thomas from the movie Smoke Signals tries very hard to remain connected with his Native American
Ancestors. Thomas likes to think of himself as a story teller like those of his ancestor tribes. He
spends his time telling people stories that are based on reality and fiction in order to create symbolism
and meaning to life. Arnold uses nature and its elements to describe many of his stories. An example
of this is when he describes himself and Victor as children of fire and ash. Like Silko, he uses
elements to describe where he came from. At times it seems as though Thomas does not really
understand his ancestry but continues to try and use their ways in his story telling.
Victor struggles to identify himself as a Native American. We see him describe what an Indian is
supposed to be like and it is loosely connected with his ancestry. Unlike the protagonist of the poem
he is unable to connect with the land and his ancestors. The protagonist mentions that the memory of
her people has

very impressive. The Bears current starting QB is Matt Berkley. Completing only 129 passes for 1611

the world. Along this same line, it is the duty of Americans to believe and support democracy to the
fullest extent. Our for fathers gave their lives in the pursuit of democracy and to go against this would

patriotism has always been rooted in love of the principles upon which the nation was founded:

Analysis Of The Article Basic Writing Through The Back Door
In her article, Basic Writing Through the Back Door: Community Engaged Courses in the Rush to
Credit Age, Oregon State University professor Cori Brewster reflects on her experiences working with
high school and college students in an accelerated summer writing course for college credit. Brewster
s reflection is pragmatic and demonstrates the strengths and the weaknesses of the program. She also
shares her hopes for the future of similar programs and some suggestions for the improvement of
future of dual enrollment, early college, and other similar programs that are a part of the rush to credit
trend in secondary and postsecondary education. These features of Brewster s writing show Brewster s
careful consideration of her students and of the trend toward underpreparedness that these expedited
programs can cause for students when the focus is on hurried matriculation or the numbers instead of
students actual needs. With a goal of providing better access to composition instruction for Oregon s
rural students in a limited time under restricting conditions, Brewster manages to create a service
learning project that is meaningful for the students and the community. The obstacles they
encountered serve to give other teachers in similar programs and other teachers of transitional students
with the necessary insights to help make developmental and basic writing programs better.

The Israelites Meeting to Inquire of Yahweh
The pericope or main focus of this paper the scene in Exodus 33:7 through 34:3. In this selection of
emphasized text we have the Israelites meeting to inquire of Yahweh, in a tent that is some distance
away. the speech then goes into distinct detail of what happens when regular israelites go to inquire of
Yahweh, In comparison to when Moses goes to inquire of Yahweh in the tent of worship. During
Moses time with Yahweh, the people of Israel waited for Moses and his aide Joshua to go into the tent,
and the people, waited outside the tents until they saw the sign a pillar of smoke then the would
worship Yahweh outside their tents. During one of these conversations, Moses ensures that Yahweh
will go with the Israelites into the promise land, and then asks to be shown the glory of Yahweh. To
which yahweh responds that no one may see his face and live but Moses can look at him from behind
and see the glory of Yahweh on Mt Sinai. During this time Yahweh also plans to give Moses another
copy of the Book of the Covenant. The pericope happens towards the end of the Book of Exodus, after
the salvation and during the process of sanctifying the Israelites. It also before the construction of
tabernacle as shown by the method in which the Israelites are worshiping Yahweh, in front of their
own tents, and also where they directly go to seek god in the tent of worship. However this is also
after the golden calf episode in which the Israelites, created an accessible image of Yahweh,

Problems of the Food System Essay
We live in an age in which we have come to expect everything to be instantaneously at our fingertips.
We live in an age of instant coffee, instant tea, and even instant mashed potatoes. We can walk down
the street at 5 in the morning and get a gallon of milk or even a weeks worth of groceries at our
discretion. Even though it is great that food is now readily available at all times, this convenience
comes at a price, for both the producer and the consumer. Farmers are cheated out of money and are
slaves to big business, workers and animals are mistreated. And, because food now comes at a low
cost, it has become cheaper quality and therefore potentially dangerous to the consumer s health.
These problems surrounding the ethics and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, big business controls the farmers by capitalizing on widely used commodities. For
example, the company Monsanto which is based in St. Louis, Missouri protects its dominance over the
genetically modified crops such as the soy bean with the use of a patent law. Because of this,
Monsanto s patented genes account for 95 percent of all soy beans and 80 percent of all corn grown in
the U.S., (Associated Press). Although genetically modifying the soy bean crop has made it more
readily available and more sustainable, this comes at a high price to farmers. Monsanto continues to
raise their prices, which forces farmers to accrue even more debt, and there is no sign of the rise in the
seed prices stopping. Since a lot of the farmers are under contract with Monsanto, there is nothing they
can do about this unethical policy in fear of losing their job. If you think being a farmer is bad, try
working in a slaughter house. Knocker, Sticker, Shackler, Rumper, First Legger, Knuckle Dropper,
these are just a few of the positions the workers at a slaughterhouse get assigned to. Simply reading
the names of the above job positions induces a sense of nausea and hints at the inherent brutality that
these positions demand (Schlosser, 172). Because the weight and size of cows are unpredictable, most
of the labor in the slaughterhouse must be done by hand. On the kill floor of a slaughterhouse,

In the 1900 s, Cardiologist Dr. James B. Herrick referred his patient, Walter Clement Noel, to Dr.

The Effects Of Guernica By Pablo Picasso
1. Introduction
The painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso was created in response to the bombing of Guernica during
the Spanish Civil War and it serves to highlight the atrocities that resulted from it. This essay will
explore the relationship between art and war, with particular reference to Picasso s Guernica. This will
be achieved my discussing firstly the background that came prior to the painting and to the event
itself. Secondly, it will be proved by drawing conclusions on what the painting serves to resemble.
Lastly, it will discuss the effects of that the painting Guernica has continued to have even after the
Spanish civil war.
2. The emergence of Cubism
The Cubism movement was founded in the twentieth century by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque as
a radical from of modern art. Cubism emerged as a response to the swiftly changing world (Doss,
2003:1). Cubism was a rejection of the traditional art values, styles and forms that accompanied the
world prior to the revolutionary twentieth century, as it sought to establish a new method for
responding to and representing the modern age. In this sense, Cubism was a direct artistic reaction to

cultural and worldwide representation of the atrocities of war. Guernica (figure 1) is therefore a
political commentary on the Spanish civil war, and in particular on the bombing of Guernica, that is a
reflection and symbol of the effects, rather than the cause of the bombing and warfare (Polombo,

Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms Essay
Using Journals Effectively in Classrooms
Journal writing seems to be a popular element teachers use to give students the opportunity to become
involved in the classroom without always speaking. However, is journal writing a beneficial tool for
student learning? How can it become more effective in the classroom? There are many types of
journals which can be used in a classroom. I have decided to look at the different types of journals that
exist to gain a broad overview of journal usage. This is to help me decide what the most effective
journal for this classroom would be.
First, let us look at what journal writing is. Journal writing is a method to provide students with an
alternate way of expression. It promotes individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Journals are also a way for students to express ideas without feeling pressure to respond in a certain
manner in order to receive a good grade.
Along with the freedom to express thoughts and concerns, a journal also can provide the freedom in
which you express these thoughts and concerns. Journals are considered an artist s notebook. Journal
entries are normally done by using words, however there is a move to allow students to use
photographs, drawings, paintings, or any creative way the student may choose to express themselves.
According to Teaching Writing written by Gail Tompkins, the purpose of journal writing is for

Continuous cardiac monitoring remains the gold standard for arrhythmia detection, we would keep

Pocahontas Historical Accuracy
The so called historical based films are evidentially lacking historical accuracy. In fact, it is one of the
most important elements and aspect of an exceptional film. Unfortunately, these types of enterprises
ultimately resulted from the concept of money, finance, and of course profit. Therefore, modern
historic films are focusing on entertainment, and excluded many significant historical accuracy from

The Douglas DC 3 is a fixed wing propeller driven airliner. Its cruise speed (207 mph or 333 km/h)

Abnormal Psych and Disorders
It is hard to say if the human mind is a fragile or resilient thing. On the one hand, humans are able to
grow and adapt and take on struggles, while on the other, their minds can crumble beneath pressure
from the stressors of life on earth, resulting in a variety of psychological disorders. One such disorder
is post traumatic stress disorder. According to the Encyclopedia of Psychology, post traumatic stress
disorder, or PTSD, occurs after an individual experiences a particularly traumatic event, usually one
where there is physical harm or an extreme threat of physical harm (Kazdin, 2000). The disorder was
formally recognized for the first time in 1980 when the American Psychology Association added it to

GRP (NIMH, n.d.). Scientists have also noted that different parts of the brain are involved in the
formation and extinction fear memories and that size and structure influence how well these parts of
the brain do their jobs. Since all of the above are dictated by a person s genes, scientists theorize that
there exist genetic quirks that make a person more or less susceptible to PTSD (NIMH, n.d.). Though
there are external factors that could be at play as well head trauma, a good childhood versus a troubled
one, the presence of a support system or the lack thereof, etc. there is evidence supporting a genetic
proclivity toward PTSD in the fact that identical twins are more likely to both suffer from PTSD than
fraternal twins (Oltmanns Emery, 2012). This means there is a hope that examination of genetic and
other factors may one day lead to the ability to predict who will suffer from PTSD and who will not.
One group of researchers has already noted a correlation between lower IQ, depressive tendencies,
and reactivity and a higher tendency to exhibit post traumatic stress symptoms (Orr, Lasko, Macklin,

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Figurative Language In The Raven
The mood of the poem The Raven can be described in many words. In a single word, it can be
considered Gothic . More specifically, however, the mood is mysterious, melancholy, and even
slightly morbid. Edgar Allan Poe created the mysterious mood in his poem by using figurative
language, imagery, setting, tone, and the speaker to help enhance his writing. Poe uses figurative
language as one of the ways to add to the mood and tone of his poems. Personification is one of the
many types of figurative language that Poe uses. An example of him using personification is when he
says each separate dying ember and Uncertain rustling of each purple curtain , both of the quotes help

Under the 1978 constitution the church is no longer Spain s official or established faith, though
financial support is still provided by the state. As a result, the church s influence in Spanish society
has declined sharply, though officially more than ninety four percent of the population is reported as
being Roman Catholic. The church supported the democratic movement and so helped foster the new
attitude of tolerance and personal freedom found in present day Spain.
Many of Spain s non Catholic citizens are members of some Protestant Church. Small Eastern

Spain s culture revolves around many different things. Clothing styles are generally not that much

The Organizational Structure Of The Walt Disney Company

Later, the company expanded its range of activities into other markets through the Disney stores and

An organizational design of the Walt Disney Company has a horizontal structure. It is seen in the

Survival Is The Key Struggle
Survival is the key struggle in The Shawshank Redemption. This film takes place in the corrupt
Shawshank State Penitentiary where mental and physical abuses inflicted upon prisoners are the hard
realities of the system. For the prisoners of Shawshank, life is often bleak and violent. However, the
will to survive is what keeps the characters motivated to retain their humanity and challenge the
institutionalization of Shawshank. In particular, the film s main protagonists, Andy Dufresne and Ellis
Red Redding, exemplify the struggle for survival in the face of a corrupt, frightening, and oppressive
prison system. In order to survive the harsh realities of the world, people adapt with personal traits like
courage and resourcefulness in addition to forming community with other people. Without a doubt,
courage is a crucial element for survival in The Shawshank Redemption because courage is the trait
that the prisoners develop in order to overcome their fears in the prison setting. Of course, fear is the
natural instinct people have when they enter the unknown. In any frightening situation, individuals,
like Andy and his fellow new inmates when they first arrive at Shawshank, must succumb to fear or
find the courage to persevere. At first, it might be difficult for people to find courage in frightening
times, but many individuals still manage to find courage from sources like religious faith and hope.
For example, religious faith is important for courage because faith can make

The Monkey s Paw And The Third Wish
Be careful what you wish for. This is a common quote that most people hear many times throughout
their lives. The two short stories The Monkey s Paw and The Third Wish demonstrate this quote by
showing most wishes often come with unexpected consequences. These two stories are very much
alike and share many similarities in both their moods, and motifs.
There are many similarities between the two short stories The Third Wish and The Monkey s Paw .
One major similarity they share is their overall mood. The mood both stories share is the feeling of
mystery. Mystery is shown in The Monkey,s Paw when the Sergeant major first told the White family
about the monkey s paw, and it s magical powers. The author writes monkeys paw? Said mrs. White
curiously. Well, it s just a bit of what you might call magic, perhaps said the sergeant major
offhandedly . This quote shows the mystery in The Monkey s Paw because to most people magic is
quite a big mystery. Some people believe it is real and some do not. Others don t know what to believe
because magic is not a thing that you can see, or prove to be real. Mystery can also be felt in the mood
of The Third Wish . A good example of when mystery is displayed is at the very beginning of the
story. mr. Peters had just gotten out of his car and was starting to search for the unknown creature that

Chinese Farmers Discovered The Terracotta Warrior
In 1974, local Chinese farmers discovered the Terracotta Warrior life sized clay sculptures. The
weather was dry in 1974, and the grain was dying in the fields of Lintong County, Shaanxi Province,
near Xian, China and some local farmers were trying to establish a new water well by digging at a low
point in the terrain. Whilst digging they encountered the first evidence of the Terracotta Warriors. One
of the local farmers Yang Zhifa quoted on the discovery At first the digging went well. The second day
we hit hard red earth. The third day, my hoe dug out the neck of a terracotta statue without a head, but
the opening at the bottom was about size of a bowl, . It wasn t until months later when archaeologists
were informed, arrived and realized that the farmers had stumbled upon an astonishing find in the
form of a large scale Terracotta Warriors dig. They dated the construction around 246 206 BC during
the Qin Dynasty. It was during the reign of the first Emperor of a unified Imperial China Qin Shi

this individual was also known as the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. Chinese civilization has its

Essay on Stereotypes of Hispanic Women in Cinema
The Latina women, even throughout the era resistance cinema, have not been able to make much
progress in overcoming the degrading stereotypes that Hollywood has created for them. Despite the
many advances that minorities have made in the cinema in recent years, Latina actresses still take on
the roles of the dark skinned lady and other such stereotypes with strong sexual connotations. It is
often debatable whether or not the role of the Latina has undergone dramatic changes since the days of

This character began to appear in the 1930 s, at the same time that an audio component was introduced
into cinema. The audience was not however interested in the voice of the vamp but rather for her
appearance and sex appeal. She was often depicted as exotic and sensual. As Tara Osorio writes, In
early cinema, Hollywood represented Latinas as ignorant, and valued their striking appearance and
figure rather than their intelligence, character, and personalities. (Tara Osorio) With the introduction of
musicals into cinema, there were many opportunities for vamp roles. There were three particular
women in early cinema who were infamous for portraying the vamp character. Carmen Miranda,
Dolores Del Rio, and Lupe Velez were typecast in such roles and were seen in the majority of films
produced in these decades.
This character represented an image that was offensive and insulting to many. The character did not
have many diverse elements and was a rather one dimensional figure. It was even more damaging
when you take into account that the same role was repeated, often by the same actress in a myriad of

Leibniz And Locke s Nature Of Innate Ideas
Leibniz and Locke argued back and forth about the nature of innate ideas and whether or not they
could/do exist. Locke took the position that in order for innate ideas to exist, they must be universal
and universally assented to by all people. Leibniz counters by distinguishing between contingent and
necessary truths, pointing out that no amount of experience will give us insight to necessary truths and
that they must be innate. He also brings up the example of innate moral knowledge that most people
know without having to be taught. Leibniz seems to come out ahead in this debate due to his ability to
show how Locke s definitions were arbitrary and there do seem to be ideas that, while not universally
assented to, the vast majority of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another proposed replacement for Locke s definition is that an innate idea is assented to in the very
instance that it is understood. But again, sensory experiences also fall under this definition, because as
soon as you experience something you understand what it is, such as red is not yellow and vice versa.
Locke also makes the claim that there are no universally assented to moral principles/knowledge. On
many occasions, people have done immoral things, knowing that they are immoral. And if they did not
know that their actions were immoral (as is the case with the criminally insane), then that moral
knowledge was not universally assented to and was not innate in that person. The legal system and
laws themselves go against the idea of innate moral knowledge. If the principles were innate, there
would be no need to deliberate or argue over the meanings or intricacies of certain laws or
amendments that guide society. Like Locke, Leibniz makes a distinction for his argument. He
distinguishes between mental content (ideas for Locke) that is gained from sensory experiences and
mental content that is not. He structures his argument around the following main claims: An idea can
be known without its thinker being conscious of the idea in question. Necessary truths and contingent
truths are separate entities. Necessary truths are a priori (innate) truths, while contingent

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise

Home Schooling Is A Good Idea
You may be asking yourself, how did home schooling begin? What was it like? Well, in the 1970 s and
the 1980 s home schooling began to spark. A few parents question whether public or private school
was right for their child. They were thinking they could do a better job. Well, what do you know;
parents learned they could do a better job. However, some states, prohibited home schooling. If
parents or guardians were home schooling, they could face jail time as well as losing their children to
the courts. Some parents were being arrested and some were taken to jail (Homeschooling: Getting
Started). Even today we have people who are against home schooling. Our President of the United
Stated, Obama, he doesn t believe home schooling is a good idea. He believes public school should
start as soon as age 3. He also said that students in middle and high school should complete 50 hours
of community service before they are able to go to the next grade level (Will Obama Use UN Policy to

A crucial part of an education outside of the home is the interaction amongst the students that is used
to prepare them to have constructive engagements with fellow citizens when their schooling is over.

our interest has been mainly on these body fluid, blood and urine, as potential sample in the detection
of glucose. However, new analytes like sweat, saliva and tears start to challenge the status of blood

continuously at home blood glucose monitoring devices, and often, become exhausted with the pain,

Effects Of The Post World War II On The American South
As the previous chapters indicate, there are numerous extant studies on the post World War II shift in
partisanship in the American South, with several studies published even before the election of
President Kennedy. As such, I know that this will not be the definitive treatment of this subject. Here,
I ask this question, in which is embedded a hypothesis: Did the decline of agriculture in the southern
economy contribute to increased Republican Party strength in the American South? This question, by
its very nature, has to account for the economic prosperity brought by such a dramatic economic
change. After all, when the Twelve Southerners wrote their defense of the southern way of life, the
South was a society of subsistence farmers (Ransom, et al. 1978). People were not used to having
much money. The money one made did not seem to be at the whims of public policy, but rather was
determined by factors outside of politics, such as the weather and blight. But as the economy changed,
so did society; people began to see their wealth in relation to the wealth of others. Subsistence farmers

Electronic Dance Music
Electronic Dance Music
Electronic Dance Music has now reached it s high in the public all over the world. This genre of music
was created and reformed from past generations of music and its history goes all the way back to the
mid to late 70 s. What is common throughout Electronic Dance Music s history is its usage of drugs
between the attendee s at these concerts, shows, festivals, or raves. Now that Electronic Music is
becoming the most popular genre for young adults and teens to listen to, the public cant help but be
aware of what chaos it could possibly bring. The only way to prevent such disasters of over doses and
deaths is to educate the Electronic Dance Music lovers on what could potentially happen to this
culture if a change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a mindset of acceptance of anyone and everything. It s a world without judgment that you cant
understand until you ve experienced it yourself (Benanti). The problem is, with this music also comes
the drugs. A study was done on the drug use and nightlife by a group of people. They explore and
study all different types of music and their ties to drugs. They surveyed 775 visitors of dance events,
clubs, and rock festivals in Belgium (Tina Van Havere). Their results found that the respondents who
used illegal drugs were 25 times more likely to report that they prefer dance music to any other genre
(Tina Van Havere). Drugs and music have been related to each other since they both first emerged, the
only problem now is that the scene is at a much larger scale and that it s kids who are doing it. There
have been many cases of deaths and overdoses in the past 5 years at these Electronic Music shows
which is creating a lot of discussion in the media and the public about the safety risks of the people
attending these shows. The people within this culture who are working behind the scenes are
concerned of the future of EDM. A lighting and sound technician Keenan Kan explains, For the people
involved in the industry, we re concerned. We have seen it happen before. Similar situations happened
when the music was popular in the 90s, and of course Gainesville and other communities acted on it

Norovirus Viruses affect us in our everyday life and they have become something that is not an
abnormal phenomenon or a fatal occurrence like it was in olden times. (Alic and Longe , 2015)
Likewise, the viruses that affect us have much impact of what the actual disease is. Norovirus being an
example of a virus that affects our daily lives and can be fatal. (Longe, 2015) This disease is highly
contagious and is very often overlooked by the public eye, however it can have much impact on our
daily lives and how we live. This virus can be seen throughout all of your lifetime and can affect
anybody at any age, it is harder to treat as it can withstand high temperatures and can live in almost
any environment making it difficult to damage and control. (Alic and Longe , 2015) Norovirus

This Is What It Means To Say Phoenix Arizona Analysis In Sherman Alexie s short story, This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona we follow Victor and Thomas along to their journey of change and revelation. Shortly after being laid off his job, Victor gets the fatal news that his father, has died. Since Victor had been abandoned by his father at a young age his character is negative, frustrated, angry, and confused. Having found out both things within the same week made his outlook on life very pessimistic. Thomas, on the other hand, is the storyteller on the reservation that nobody wants to listen to. He is lonely, positive, but has lived a sad life. After their journey together, Victor finds out more about his dad s lifestyle and personality and builds a bond with Thomas that would have never happened without the journey to Arizona. He goes from being confused and angry, to happy and at peace with himself and his father. Thomas also experiences the same emotions by the end of the journey. While they technically are not friends towards the end of the story, they will be forever bonded by this journey and he helped his friendship with Victor get a little deeper. Thanks to Thomas, Victor changes his perception of his dad and while doing so, helped himself get close to someone from back at home. Author Sherman Alexie uses the journey to Arizona to reveal and demonstrate change and the protagonist s lifestyle. While Victor lives a torn and confused life because of his father s absence, his outlook on his father changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Relationships Among Natives And Europeans Grecia Loya United States History April 14, 2015 Relationships among the Natives and Europeans The stories regarding the Native Americans and European settlers all commence somewhat similar: the Natives welcome and help sustain the Europeans in the start. They become an instrumental piece to the European survival in the Americas. The relationship starts to change, however, as settlers grow independent. In some instances, when there is only personal gain to be acquired, the relationship becomes a simple trade relationship. In other instances, relationships between the Native Americans and Europeans evolve into a drastic feud driven by European imperialistic ideas to impose political, religious and cultural law on the Natives. England has conquered many territories and established colonies throughout history. In this English form of colonization, it is clear that there is an obvious mission to intrude into native customs and force their own. They utilize the purest form of imperialism to strip others of their customs and replace it with ones own in order to expand glory and gain for a nation. The English colonists seeked to expand and establish English ideas into foreign cultures. In the case with the Native Americans, the English did not see the Native Indians as equals in anyway possible. They did not acknowledge their religion, particularly because it was not Christian based, nor their law system, since it was not related to church based laws. Wherever ... Her childhood memories of black people as domestic help were a normal way of life to her. The author felt awful that it took her 20 years to understand the unjust treatment of blacks. That, and the fact that she wanted people to see through the duplicity of things in the South, are the reason she wrote this controversial novel. Throughout the 1900s black people were treated cruelly and since 1962, the year the book was placed in, America has come a long way. Segregation back then was an everyday ... During the period from 1866 until 1885 the electorate widened significantly from 1.3 million voters to 5.5 million. There were many factors in the rising demand for Parliamentary reform such as; an increasing population, internal migration, Radical and Trade Union campaigns, American Civil War, an economic depression and the visit of Garibaldi. Dalrymple puts forward his main arguments which many come from his own experience with details and examples. Also, the article helps convey to the reader that the greatest threat to our great society comes from within. Dalrymple s article helped enlighten me that today s society has grown so used to civilization that it seems impossible to conceive that it is actually a delicate thing. Dalrymple s article gives us an important lesson that even though we have countless amount of resources and technology in today s world, society is not unconquerable, and it can vanish. Dalrymple s article has conveyed to me that without civilization we wouldn t have any purpose in life , we would just be going around killing each other for resources living like barbaric savages. An example of that would be when Dalrymple s states civilization transcends barbarism, civilization was still worth defending. Indeed, it is the only thing worth defending, because it is what gives, or should give, meaning to our lives. even though we live in more efficient society, that doesn t mean something catastrophic can t happen again. For example Dalrymple s was born around World War 2 when he was growing up, no one at that time thought the holocaust could happen because how well establish Europe ... Since all of the above are dictated by a person s genes, scientists theorize that there exist genetic quirks that make a person more or less susceptible to PTSD (NIMH, n.d.). Though there are external factors that could be at play as well head trauma, a good childhood versus a troubled one, the presence of a support system or the lack thereof, etc. there is evidence supporting a genetic proclivity toward PTSD in the fact that identical twins are more likely to both suffer from PTSD than fraternal twins (Oltmanns Emery, 2012). More specifically, however, the mood is mysterious, melancholy, and even slightly morbid. Edgar Allan Poe created the mysterious mood in his poem by using figurative language, imagery, setting, tone, and the speaker to help enhance his writing. Poe uses figurative language as one of the ways to add to the mood and tone of his poems. Personification is one of the many types of figurative language that Poe uses. This film takes place in the corrupt Shawshank State Penitentiary where mental and physical abuses inflicted upon prisoners are the hard realities of the system. For the prisoners of Shawshank, life is often bleak and violent. However, the will to survive is what keeps the characters motivated to retain their humanity and challenge the institutionalization of Shawshank. Locke took the position that in order for innate ideas to exist, they must be universal and universally assented to by all people. Leibniz counters by distinguishing between contingent and necessary truths, pointing out that no amount of experience will give us insight to necessary truths and that they must be innate. He also brings up the example of innate moral knowledge that most people know without having to be taught. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another proposed replacement for Locke s definition is that an innate idea is assented to in the very instance that it is understood. But again, sensory experiences also fall under this definition, because as soon as you experience something you understand what it is, such as red is not yellow and vice versa. Locke also makes the claim that there are no universally assented to moral principles/knowledge. On many occasions, people have done immoral things, knowing that they are immoral. And if they did not know that their actions were immoral (as is the case with the criminally insane), then that moral knowledge was not universally assented to and was not innate in that person. The legal system and laws themselves go against the idea of innate moral knowledge. If the principles were innate, there would be no need to deliberate or argue over the meanings or intricacies of certain laws or amendments that guide society. Like Locke, Leibniz makes a distinction for his argument. He distinguishes between mental content (ideas for Locke) that is gained from sensory experiences and mental content that is not. He structures his argument around the following main claims: An idea can be known without its thinker being conscious of the idea in question. Necessary truths and contingent truths are separate entities. Necessary truths are a priori (innate) truths, while contingent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As such, I know that this will not be the definitive treatment of this subject. Here, I ask this question, in which is embedded a hypothesis: Did the decline of agriculture in the southern economy contribute to increased Republican Party strength in the American South? This question, by its very nature, has to account for the economic prosperity brought by such a dramatic economic change. After all, when the Twelve Southerners wrote their defense of the southern way of life, the South was a society of subsistence farmers (Ransom, et al. 1978). People were not used to having much money. The money one made did not seem to be at the whims of public policy, but rather was determined by factors outside of politics, such as the weather and blight.
