Becoming a more competent communicator and disciplinarian, without escalating conflict is what I
am working on, specifically with my five teenage children, ages 17, 15, 14, 14 and 14. After my
divorce, my children were beginning to exhibit at risk behaviors, such as sneaking out of the home,
disregarding family rules and expectations with regard to homework, chores and their overall safety.
Eventually a friend who is employed with the Department of Children and Family Services referred
me to Youth Services. This resulted in attending weekly classes for ten weeks aimed at reducing
conflict and finding new ways to communicate with my children. The class is structured around the
peer reviewed research of the same name, Strengthening Families, and provides an atmosphere for me
to work with youth counselors who actively assist me in changing my parenting style to adopt a more
collaborative approach.
Through my research and attendance of the Strengthening Families classes, it became glaringly
obvious that the approach I was taking to parenting, was not successful. One of my discoveries
through this project is that overall, my children respond better to a collaborative approach and it is
more meaningful to hold them accountable for their actions when we have all decided ahead of time
what those consequences will be. While I have five children left in my home, I have an older son who

than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day. Over 90% of coffee is produced in
developing countries, and millions of small producers income comes from growing coffee. Coffee is
produced and exported mostly from South American countries, while mainly industrialized countries
are the ones importing the most coffee. Worldwide, 25 million small producers rely on coffee for a
living, and in Brazil, over 5 million people are employed by the commodity. Brazil is the top country
in exporting coffee and is where almost a third of the whole world s production of coffee is. Coffee is
a more labor intensive work culture than other commodities like sugar cane or cattle because it is not
automated work and requires attention.

more than thirty years. He wrote this piece to expose a crime that shocked the world in order to inform
people about it, as he does with his other books. The book is simply here to enlighten readers who are
interested in the details of this specific crime. This book was a very interesting read, but it takes a
certain kind of reader to appreciate it, because of the fact that it does go into major details of a

The film I chose was Zootopia, this film typifies a generation, and a cultural moment. Zootopia has
many connections to our culture and generation today. This movie is about a small rabbit who dreams
of being a cop and helping people; the people around her don t believe that she will be able to
accomplish her dream because there has never been a small animal on the police unit before. She
works so hard to get through the police academy. The courses are built for the bigger animals and as a
small bunny it is almost impossible for her, but she works and trains. At the end she finally
accomplishes beating every course flawlessly. At the academy graduation, she proves everyone wrong
and is the head of her class. She ends up in the city working for a police department; on her first day
she is shamed by being put on parking duty instead on a missing animal case like all of the bigger
animals, even though she was head of her class in the academy and is very qualified to find a missing
animal. The boss thinks because she is new and small that she could not accomplish finding a missing
animal. At the end of the movie she ends up finding all thirteen missing animals and arrests the mayor;
