The Value Stream Analysis ( Vsa ) Essay
spent several years in the military trying to convince leaders to use Lean principles to improve their
operations. But even when presented with an action plan based on the Value Stream Analysis (VSA)
of a costly process, the action plan was rarely implemented by the very organizational leaders who
requested the analysis in the first place.
There always seemed to be resistance to using Lean tools that could have led to some very big
improvements. At first, I couldn t figure out why. But after a while, I started noticing certain patterns
in the language of reluctant leaders that pointed to some key underlying causes for resistance.
These causes seemed to boil down to the following:
1. Lack of Understanding of Lean Language
2. We Are Different Because We Are Not A Manufacturing Organization
3. Organizational Stove Pipes
4. The True Cost Of Wasteful Processes Not Measured
5. Mobility Of Leadership Personnel
Lean principles can help organizations improve profitability through improved cycle times,
productivity and quality, by removing waste from work processes and systems. The resulting
reduction in waste also leads to reductions in operating costs. But Lean was born in the manufacturing
world. So some of the core concepts pertain to assembly line set ups and still use that language (work
in process inventory, flow cells, kanban based pull systems, etc.).
Even so, there are many examples of service companies successfully using Lean tools. One of the
largest and well

Predictably Irrational Analysis
This week s reading Predictably Irrational was very valuable, and informative. While coming up with
so many ways of thinking when it comes to behavior, I had no idea even existed. We talked last week
about being rational, but this week and this week s reading it discussed more about irrational, and
predictable behavior. At the end of this summary I hope to have showed and understand the difference
when it comes to irrational and predictable theories that can disrupt behavior, and decision making.
When it came down to a specific model I wasn t quite sure which one we are talking about, because in
the book Dan Ariely in my opinion has quite a few different experiment, models that are used to help
better understand his argument. The model about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first chapter I enjoyed was chapter 10, The Power of Price. The chapter talked about experiments
suggest that more expensive things, higher perceived value have a better placebo effect. The
experiment is where the people drank an energy drink, and those who had the more expensive version
did better in a puzzle. However, the group who had the drink whose bottle specifically said that it
helps people do better in puzzles, they actually did better than the group with the blank bottle. To me
that showed me just how pictures and the things we see really do impact our decision making. If we
see a name brand energy drink compared to a knock off brand energy drink does the name brand
energy work better? I have been in those situations where I have felt a Red Bull did better than a
monster energy drink, just because the Red Bull is more expensive. Both energy drinks in my opinion
work the same, and to be honest who is to say they aren t the same drink? I can just be different price

The Storage Of Data Warehouse Essay
Every organizations have their own independent Data Warehouse and due to increase in the number of
transactions, the size of the data is also increasing. Data warehouse is the central repository of
information for an organization. There are multiple data sources like OLTP, excel, csv, txt, xml, etc,
that are generated from various systems and are populated to data warehouse by ETL and thus Data
Warehouse stores the summarized integrated business data in a central repository. The Data
Warehouse is used for the analytical applications (OLAP On Line Analytical Processing), decision
making, data mining and user applications.
ETL plays an important role in building the Data Warehouse. In the traditional way of ETL, all the
analysis, activities and operations are stopped and then the refreshment of data warehouse will be
done. Since this will be done in off peak hours, the Data Warehouse will not be having the latest
operational transactions and hence there is no freshness of data. This problem is called by Data
Latency. Near Real time Data Warehousing is a solution for this problem. It will update the Data
Warehouse in near real time manner, immediately after change data detected in data source. Thus, data
latency can be minimized.
In order to develop the near real time data warehouse, there are problems which were previously not
found in the traditional ETL process. The objective of this dissertation is to find the solutions for the
problems at each stage of

Analyzing Pina Bausch One Of The Most Influential
What a treasure is inherent in our bodies that expresses itself without words, and how many stories
can be told without uttering a single sentence. Wim Wenders.
Obsessive, infuriating, exhausting, magnetic, Provocative, Feminist, Extraordinary, Brilliant, Poetic, A
Crock, Indulgent, Deadening, and Superficial are just a few words used to describe Pina Bausch one
of the most influential and controversial choreographers of the twentieth century.
The high priestess of Tanztheatre changed the dance landscape forever. Her boundless imagination and
provocative choreography changed the perception of what could be thought of as dance. Her searing,
psychologically raw choreography pushed societal boundaries. She combined potent dramas and
dreamlike movements to create a powerful form of dance theater that influenced generations of
dancemakers her amazing body of work stands testament to her enduring vision, innovation and
creativity. She was motivated only by emotional truth and was not frightened to put difficult and
paradoxical feelings on stage. Every detail was important to
Bausch, every movement, gesture, because all of it was in service to the piece. Bausch didn t consider
what she did as choreography, but as expressing feelings by whatever means will best convey them.
Pina was a shy child, she was afraid to speak, dancing gave her a voice. When I was moving I could

Group Counseling With South Asian Immigrant High School...
The article, Group counseling with South Asian immigrant high school girls: Reflection and
commentary of a group facilitator, focused on integrating South Asian girls into a new school in a new
country through group counseling. The first author was South Asian herself, therefore, she felt that she
was competent to work with these students. She explained that the South Asian people are collectivist
therefore; a group setting would match the student s cultural norms and values. The authors begin by
stating that the numbers of immigrant children in this country have grown 66 % between 1995 and
2002. This makes a huge impact on urban schools, where 95% of these immigrants attend school. The
authors also mention that the Asian American population is one of the fastest growing immigrant
population in the United States and stress that relationship building is an important factor in
acclimating to a new country. In addition, the authors provide a background of the South Asian culture
that the first author gathered in her experience in working with the South Asian adolescent girls. The
authors explain that South Asian is used to describe a variety of religions and nationalities that
originate from the Indian subcontinent. Some countries include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India,
Nepal, and Pakistan. Moreover most South Asians practice Hinduism or Islam, but there are some who
practice Buddhism or Christianity. These differences may influence their language, socioeconomic

Grief And Trauma
Introduction:
I have learned a lot in the Intro to Abuse course, including how I respond to traumatic events; how
abuse affects attachment and how my caregivers affected my self esteem; my resiliency as well as the
skills, traits and professionalism necessary to work effectively with abused children. I will use this
knowledge to develop a better understanding of myself and to become a better Child and Youth Care
practitioner.
Grief and Trauma:
This course has taught me how I respond to traumatic events. For example, this past summer, I was
demoted without warning from a job in which I was extremely invested in and passionate about. On
day three of my job, I was suddenly transferred involuntarily from my position working with children
with special ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a young child, my parents unintentionally negatively impacted my self esteem in a variety of
different ways. Due to my undiagnosed learning disability, I often misinterpreted or failed to
understand rules and instructions without my parents realizing it. I would frequently get in trouble
because I broke a rule or failed to do what my parents wanted me to without even knowing it. My
parents thought that I was just being difficult so they would yell at me or punish me and because I had
no idea what I had done wrong, I felt like I was a bad kid because I was always getting in trouble. I
would also misinterpret what my parents were trying to say a lot of the time, which was also often
damaging to my self esteem. For example, when I scored my first goal playing hockey I was so
excited and proud of myself and thought my parents would be too, since they would always tell our
family if one of my siblings scored. However, my dad told me that he did not care if I scored a goal
and I interpreted it to mean that he did not care about me or that I scored and only cared if my siblings
did, but what he meant was that he was proud of me whether I scored or not as long as I was doing my
best. My parents also damaged my self esteem by belittling me or shaming me when they got
frustrated because I was not doing what they wanted. For example, my parents would say things like,
why can t you be more like your sister, she can put her seat belt on, why can t you? . This led me to
feel like there was something wrong with me and that I wasn t good enough. It also caused me to start
comparing myself to my siblings, which made me feel inadequate because it seemed like no matter
how hard I tried, I could never measure up to what they could do. However, once my parents
discovered that I had a learning disability that caused me to misinterpret nonverbal, social and
complicated verbal cues, they did their best to

Catcher In The Rye Holden s Flaws Essay
The Catcher in the Rye is a novel of teenage angst. The main character and narrator of the novel
Holden Caulfield describes his last few days before his parents receive a letter informing them that
Holden has been kicked out of Pencey Prep for flunking every class but English. Holden discusses the
real world around him as he sees it and talks about how phony the people around him are due to his
own insecurities and phoniness. Holden s biggest flaw is that he is afraid to change and grow up. The
main character talks about the lives of the guys he goes to school with and the typical teenage
behavior that they all partake in. For example, Holden has been expelled from multiple schools, been
in fights, smokes, swears, and talks about the stereotypical conversations between teenage males.
Holden s roommate, who he calls Stradlater, is the quintessential example of a player in the novel.
Holden says that Stradlater has been with many girls and never truly cared about it until Stradlater
mentions the name Jane Gallagher. Jane Gallagher was a close friend of Holden who he used to play
checkers with and would spend plenty of time with. Holden talks about her alcoholic father figure and
recalls a moment on the porch where he almost kissed her because she had begun to cry. Throughout
Holden s adventure in New York, he mentions calling up Jane ... Show more content on

Mockumentary In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High
Introduction:
The Australian produced show Summer Heights High, is created and written by Chris Lilley, it was
directed by Stuart McDonald. It was a mockumentary which takes place at Summer Heights Heigh, it
was filmed over a school term. The show was centered around three characters Jonah, Ja mie and a
drama teacher called Mr.G. The show followed these three characters around displaying what their
every day life is like. Jonah is a 13 year old boy from Tongah who has disciplinary problems and does
not like to participate at school. Ja mie is a private school girl that is on an exchange program. She is
the typical snobby private school girl that thinks she is better then everyone else, she also thinks she

comedic techniques used throughout this scene are Chris Lilley s tone of voice while playing Ja mie in
my opinion makes everything funny, also stereotypes were used were funny with the typical white
snobby private girl that is displayed throughout this episode and not just this scene. Just like the last
scene satire was again used along with taboo, a lot of the comedy portrayed in this television show has
a lot to do with satire and taboo. Pseudo science is portrayed a lot throughout this scene with the
sayings Ja mie with how she will get pregnant and how she is going to leave home at 18.
Conclusion:
To conclude, the Summer Heights High program displayed many comedic techniques, in the two
particular scene that i mentioned mainly satire and taboo were used and also film techniques were
used to show emotion that Jonahs father was displaying when they were telling him what Jonah drew.
The second scene it was mainly all taboo with what Ja mie was saying to her mum it was really dark
and crude humour, which is what made it such a memorable part if the

The Indian Health Service
This article offers a brief history of the laws governing AI/AN (American Indian/Alaskan Native)
health policy, as well as recent trends and contemporary issues. A long history of underfunding of the
Indian Health Service (IHS) has led to serious challenges in providing proper care. One law designed
to meet these challenges was the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act, enacted in
1975. This law authorized AI/AN tribes to take over the management of health programs, carry over
funding,. and receive third party revenue, as well as made them eligible for grants and assisted them
with contract support costs. More recently, Medicaid expansion under the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (ACA) should increase the number of AI/AN individuals eligible for and enrolled
in Medicaid. This should result in increased access to health services for the high percentage of AI/AN
adults living at or below the federal poverty level in 2009 (20.4%). Still, the problem of inadequate
health care persists, as the Indian Health Service (IHS) budget has not kept pace with medical inflation
and the increases in AI/AN population. Long term underfunding of the IHS is a contributing factor to
AI/AN health disparities. To bring the IHS budget to an equitable level similar to federal employee
health benefits would require approximately an additional $3 billion per year. With a Department of
Health and Human Services budget of more than $800 billion per year, this increase

his time in Vienna proves to be essential to understanding the formation of all his ideas. When Hitler s
mother died, he moved to Vienna. Here, he was surrounded by a population of over 2 million people
and the wide boulevards of the city. Hitler settled in a tiny apartment near the Academies school of
fine arts where he was refused admission. In the wake of defeat, Adolf s life took a sudden turn.
Though Vienna was a rich and cultured city, it was not without its seamy side its shabby streets, slums
where prostitutes and derelicts were and a world of lost souls. He remained there for five more years
of which hunger and disgust became his regular companion. He became part of Vienna s lost soul and
he spent time on the streets begging for money and curling up later on park benches. In this time in
Vienna, the Jews were flourishing and they were economically stable. It s even safe to say that Adolph
got his first regular job from a Jew named Josef Neumann, whom he described as very
unsophisticated. During his stay in Vienna, Hitler was opened to many anti Semitic ideas because he
was hanging out with the lowlifes of Vienna and he also often slept in a destitute home for

Serial Killers, By Flannery O Connor
In this world, there are people who are able to shoot, bludgeon, or torture a whole family and then
sleep peacefully just hours after. Serial Killers have piqued the American public s interest for
generations. In the 1970s, for example, America was enthralled by the danger and fear of Ted Bundy
and John Wayne Gacy, famous serial killers who killed a combined number of over a hundred people.
Following suit of the popularity of serial killers, they have become ingrained in our culture through
art, books, news, talk shows, and movies. A famous example of this trend is in Flannery O Connor s A
Good Man Is Hard to Find , where the antagonist, The Misfit, brutally murders a family of six. O
Connor described The Misfit as a calm, polite, analytical, morally confused, murderer with leadership
skills and strong white teeth. This archetype, a person who can be perfectly calm while being
aggressive and lacks a sense of right or wrong, has also been an interest of study in the medical field.
The medical community has come together for patients that are described as lacking a moral
conscious, naming their disorder psychopathy (Robinson). In Flannery O Connor s A Good Man Is
Hard to Find The Misfit exhibits signs of psychopathy, shown from his manipulating control over
Bobby Lee and Hiram, and staying calm while he directly and indirectly kills six people. Psychopaths,
although they differ on an individual basis, are described as fearless, seeing people as beneficial

Discrimination In The 1800 s
Society in the United States has changed the way discrimination is from the 1800 s to the 2000 s and
is a big impact to people all around the country. Many African Americans have been discriminated for
a long period of time and now, many athletes are taking a stand to show its physically and morally
wrong and occurs in past history, sports, and even the police force. Discrimination is is immoral tell
this day and is still a horrifying act. Slavery has occurred from 1864 and before and is still here today.
Although it may be illegal, many people terrorize African Americans tell this day. Many southern
Americans fought for slavery in the Civil War but failed to fulfill their destiny. Many African
Americans were beaten, slaved , lived in harsh places, and treated poorly. Many were starved and
beaten to death and were traded like candy all over. Now, most people feel that it is immoral to do so
and realise that is wrong to take advantage of the Negro race. Today, only a few people conduct
slavery by kidnapping people and use them to for their slave. People still fight for southern morals
from the 1800 s and even protest for it, but from the 1800 s to now, slavery has decreased greatly and

Grapes Of Wrath Allusions
In his novel Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck integrated many biblical references and values
throughout the book. This provided a more intriguing and complex style of writing that he used to tell
about the Dust Bowl of the early 1900 s and the arduous journey the Joad family and many others took
to reach California. The first biblical reference is revealed when the Joad family leaves for California.
the rest swarmed up on top of the load, Connie and Rose of Sharon, Pa and Uncle John, Ruthie and
Winfield, Tom and the preacher. Noah stood on the ground, looking up at the great load of them sitting
on top of the truck (Steinbeck 113) This passage relates to the loading of animals into Noah s Ark in
Genesis 7:15 where it is written that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another biblical reference is shown when the Joad s move to California. Their journey to California
from Oklahoma is a biblical reference due to the similarity to the exodus of the Jews to Israel from
Egypt. This is distinguished by the similarities between the Joad s and the Jews, the Joad s were
captives of their farm while the Jews were captives of Egypt. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a
Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She
kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was
the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. California brings about
another biblical allusion. As part of Moses bringing his people out of Egypt, he told of a promised
land to where he would take the Israelites, and that land was Canaan. For the Joad s and many other
migrants, California was the promised land they were searching for. Apart from both of the promised
lands beginning with the letter C, they had many things in common. The vineyards, the orchards, the
great flat valley, green and beautiful...the peach trees and the walnut groves, and the dark green
patches of oranges (Steinbeck 227). This is an allusion to the promised land of the Jews, where in
Numbers 13:27 it states We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and
honey! Here is its fruit (Zondervan 207). Both lands were bursting with

How The Benefits Of Cutting Golf Courses
Golf courses must definitely be maintained properly, so that the golfers can play a good game, without
any sort of unpleasant situations. For further information regarding this aspect, here is how a golf
course is maintained throughout the year.
A riding lawn mower is absolutely necessary
When it comes to golf courses, you obviously need to cut the grass frequently, and also very well. It
needs to be evenly and perfectly cut, so that the golfers don t encounter any difficulties, when it comes
to their shots. A quality riding lawn mower is highly recommended. A machine like this is very easy to
maneuver, and it will certainly do a wonderful job. Furthermore, the whole job will be finished in a
short period of time. Keep in mind that cutting the grass is the most important details to take into
account, when it comes to golf courses. Cutting the grass needs to be done throughout the year,
regularly.

Aeration definitely plays a very important role and it must be done properly. The condition of the
green actually depends on what it is happening below the surface. Good roots will certainly demand
oxygen, and due to the traffic from golfers feet, the soil can be compacted under the putting green. If
the soil becomes compacted, then the roots will be left gasping for air. Without the necessary oxygen,
the grass will become weaker and it will die. Therefore, it is essential to aerate the soil very well, in
order to have a healthy green, and it is recommended to do this twice a year, in the early winter and

The Literary Canon On The Black Arts Movement
Laqu er Clark
English 1305 05
Dr. Boone
March 2, 2016
The Literary Canon How did the Black Arts Movement change the white supremacist of the Literary
Canon? Before one can go on to answer this question, students must understand exactly what a literary
canon is. Literary canon is a term used widely to refer to a group of literary works that are considered
the most important of a particular time period or place. Before the 1960 s the canon was widely
referred to as the Western Canon. However after the Black Arts Movement several African Americans
authors emerged adding diversity and ideas from the point of view of racial and ethnic minorities,
which was not valued by the mainstream at the time. In the famous essay Cultural Revolution and the
Literary Canon, Amiri Baraka s states The 1960 s had raised questions of the multicultural and
multinational character of society and had challenged the white supremacist origins of the so called
literary canon. Throughout this essay we will discuss how the Black Arts Movement played a major
part in changing and challenging the white supremacist of the Literary Canon. The Western Canon is
the body of books, music, and art that Western scholars generally accept as the most important and
influential in shaping Western culture. When a work is entered into the canon, therefore canonized, it
gains status as an official addition into a group of literary works that are widely studied and respected.
Much of American literary classics are

Sociological conceptions of culture are typically interested in the instrumental values according to
which organisation members coordinate their activity and through which they attempt to achieve their
goals (Dempsey, 2015, p. 322).
In a bureaucratic setting, the predictability of behavior and the probability that it will be functional in
organizational terms are greatly enhanced by the limited number of behavioral alternatives (Presthus,
1958, p. 56).
Japan Culture
Stereotype and the actual culture of Japanese employees and the success of these companies should be
taken into consideration. Research has found that Japanese employees have unusually strong
identification with the company, but not necessarily high job satisfaction or strong commitment to the
performance of specific job tasks (Lincoln Kalleberg, 1985, p.738). The Japanese workers have longer
work hours, low wages and yet have higher loyalty of employees. It is speculated that Japanese
Managers have contributed towards the success of the company and held to higher standards to ensure
productivity from their employees. Japanese companies will look to and respect the senior workers,
which demonstrates respect and appropriate organization behaviors. As employees turn to their
mentors for advice, they make fewer mistakes on the job, cutting losses to the employer (Tingum,

Critical Assessment Of An Essay
Critical Assessment
When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own organic
living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can review itself and
correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can occur as many times as
possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able to look objectively at their
essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The capability to adequately
evaluate and reflect upon one s essay is what separates the good essays from the superb ones. The
essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis statement, lively transitional
wording, and impactful verb choices.
While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential criteria. It
was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage the reader. It
was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with direction for the
rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay because it was difficult
to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the paper had close to zero
transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and forced. This resulted in an
essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to process. The reason for

Antitrust And Legal Of A Business Context
Evaluate Antitrust and Legal Rights in a Business Context Over the year s organizations from, all parts
of the world have experienced growth in the areas of business. Much of this growth is in part due to
multinational companies, many of them enjoying significant benefits. One such area is investment,

Fear concerning state owned corporations and the lack of effectiveness of legislation / regulatory

2004 the United Nations General Assembly facilitated a long awaited agreement that would help bring

Death In Holy Sonnet 10 And Philip Larkin s Aubade
Part of being human is understanding we are not immortal, and will eventually cease to function. For
some, this acknowledgement is a daunting reality swept into the back of the mind to be forgotten.
While for others it is an inspiring awareness that encourages us to live every day to its fullest
potential. Both of these feelings about death can be seen in John Donne s, Holy Sonnet 10 and Philip
Larkin s, Aubade . Together they challenge the reader to accept their fate and make the most of the
time we have on Earth. Both authors employ various poetic devices and prosody to give an
understanding of death.
John Donne s Holy Sonnet 10 serves as both a direct address towards death, and as a sermon on what
happens after death for those who practice Christianity. The speaker gives reassurance to those who
may fear death and what comes afterwards. Even though the speaker is discussing a somber matter,
the overall tone of the poem is uplifting thereby further challenging the typical way people view death.
The speaker belittles death when he/she questions death s magnitude and power over humans.
Throughout the poem, the speaker compares death to a restful slumber. Rests are temporary states that
bring much pleasure (Line 6). By relating death to sleep, the speaker says death is not permanent, but
rather a momentary phase that ultimately will bring happiness. Death is a phase and after one short
sleep past, we wake eternally (Line 13). This relates to the Christian belief

Minimum Wage Thesis
The modern minimum wage was established by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA)
Franklin Roosevelt signed the law which passed by an overwhelming majority (Grossman, 1978).
While a minimum wage is certainly an altruistic idea and one that receives widespread public support,
there is a question among economists such as Richard Burkhauser as to the effectiveness of minimum
wage on reducing the level of poverty. Minimum wage increases (1998 2003) did not affect poverty
rates overall, or among the working poor (Burkhauser Sabia, 2007). In addition, some of the minimum
wage laws which came before the FLSA were challenged in the Supreme Court, such as in Schecter
Poultry Corporate v. U.S in 1935, and declared unconstitutional. While there ... Show more content on

The law was controversial amongst business owners who were required to pay workers minimum
wages based on hundreds of different industry codes. The codes created confusion amongst workers as
well as corporations and resulted in situations where workers were making different hourly rates at
different times of the day (Jones, 2011). The NIRA was eventually ruled unconstitutional by the
decision in Schecter Poultry Corporate v. U.S in 1935. Finally, Congress passed the Fair Labor
Standards Act of 1938, the last major piece of the New Deal legislation, which was signed into law by
Franklin Roosevelt. The FLSA was the first blanket federal minimum wage law passed by Congress,
which covered workers in nearly all industries. The touted benefits of a federal minimum wage were
stated by FDR, I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It
seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than
living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country (Roosevelt, 1933). Roosevelt
wanted to be clear that he did not define a living wage by the ability to survive rather that those
receiving a minimum wage should be living in some level of comfort. The FLSA of 1938 established a
minimum wage of $0.25 an hour for the first year, $0.30 an hour for the next six years, and $0.40 an
hour in particular industries ( Fair Labor Standard... ,

Respiratory Chains
All living cells that are able to divide and receive the parental genetic material, are depending on
permanent delivery of energy which is stored in reusable forms. Being separated from the outside
environment, within this cells, endo and exothermal reactions are present, allowing them to provide
their own vital processes and to synthetize their own components (Lodish et al., 2000). Photosynthesis
and respiration, the most important energetic processes occurring in the cellular membranes, are
transforming one form of energy into another. Photosystems are able to transform the energy of
photons into chemical energy which is stored in molecules like ATP or NADPH. Furthermore, the
chemical energy of reduced compounds by oxidation processes is transformed, by the respiratory
chains, also into molecules like ATP (Lodish et al., 2000, Hohmann Marriott et al., 2011). ... Show

The direction of electrons through the respiratory chain is driven by the redox potential of each of the
elements the measure of affinity to electrons which moves from the negative redox potential to the
positive redox potential (Lenaz et al., 2010). Respiratory chains are mainly composed of large multi
subunit protein complexes containing several cofactors. The biogenesis of respiratory chain is a highly
ordered and sophisticated process. This process includes: translation, protein insertion into the
membrane cofactor insertion and the assembly of the subunits into multi subunit protein complexes.
Any defect in one of this steps can terminate the biogenesis and can result in severe impairments of
respiratory chains, which is why these processes are very important for all living organisms (Diaz et

Procedure
We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training
technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food hopper
with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be delivered through the
pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association on the Operant Associations

strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior. This file was saved to be used later in the
training of Sniffy to press the bar himself.
Using the previously saved file some adjustments were made before training Sniffy. The session was
adjusted to the Design Operant Conditioning Experiment with the Reinforcement Schedule set to

The Case Against The Death Penalty
In the article The Case Against the Death Penalty, which shows up in Crime and Criminals: Opposing
Viewpoints, Eric Freedman contends that capital punishment does not discourage fierce crime as well
as conflicts with decreasing the crime rate. This essay will analyse Freedman s article from the
perspectives of a working man, a needy individual, and a government official.
Working man: A working man would in all probability agree with Freedman s point of view with
association with the monetary part of the death penalty because Freedman discusses about the amount
more the death penalty costs than life confinement. The workingman would bewildered at how much
the execution truly costs diverged from the measure of life confinement costs. The workingman would
most likely ask why capital punishment is even looked for when life detainment appears to finish the
same objective for considerably less cash. The working man would likewise concur with Freedman in
light of the fact that the workingman would rather see his tax money spent on more profitable projects.
The workingman would say that the administration taking such a large amount of his pay in
assessments, it could accomplish something more beneficial than slaughtering individuals. A working
man would presumably be irritated with the amount of cash is spent on simply death penalty cases.

television free individuals comprise a very small percentage of the general population, advertisements
were made in national media establishments likely to attract participants who do not watch television.
These establishments included a large nationally syndicated popular magazine and the web site for the
TV Turnoff Network. Survey respondents were divided into three groups: (a) television free, (b)
viewers who watch in accordance with AAP recommendations and (c) frequent viewers (over two

Hammermeister found that television free individuals show a stronger association with enhanced
psychosocial health profiles than members of the moderate viewing group (i.e., the group following

White Privilege In America
Dr. Peggy McIntosh makes a clear distinction between racism and white privilege. Personally, I have
seen and been affected by white privilege more than by racism. I have always been more affected by
the advantages given to whites than the disadvantages given to others. In school I was always
identified as an equal with my white friends, but there were scenarios where I had to work harder to
succeed. It was always difficult communicating my ideas to a predominantly white society. As a
Hindu, I always found it appalling when events at my school were cancelled due to pushback from
white Christian parents. As soon as a white parent would argue for something, administration would

different tourist groups are treated. A white family will be pampered the entire trip and provided extra
accommodations to make their stays more pleasant, where as my family will be treated like a

afforded to whites indirectly in Western countries, it is hard not to recognize the effects of white
privilege in other communities. Through my experiences, I believe the root of white privilege and
racism is the perpetual dominance of whites over others throughout history: dominance over money,
culture, environment, and people. While people try to eliminate white privilege, it is mostly white
activists trying to promote change. If white privilege is only being condoned criticized by activism in
the white community, it promotes the idea that only white people can engender change. In order to
truly fight white privilege, minorities and activists of all kinds need to unite and overcome the
difficulties. It may be hard in the short term to level the playing field, but once the playing field is

The Most Shocking Event That Occurred During World War One
If you were to consider the most shocking event that occurred during world war one and two, the first
thing that might come to mind would probably be the Holocaust. And it certainly is a significant
occurrence, rivaling even the war itself, but not a lot of people know that before this happened, during
world war one, the Armenians faced a similar oppression from the Ottoman Empire. The Armenian
Genocide was intently executed by the Ottoman Empire for accusation of alignment with the Soviet
Union and was concealed under the guise of move due to war. Before delving further there are

Arthur Bright from The Christian Science Monitor stated that according to the Turks the reason the

Armenians because of their ethnic identity rather, the Ottomans were targeting insurgent groups within

Comparing Robinson And Paul Simon s Richard Cory
Richard Cory, the name used for the title of two thought provoking works, was a man whose luxurious
persona led the world from feelings of admiration to wide ranging envy. In both poems by Edwin
Arlington Robinson and Paul Simon, similar tones established esteem and praise towards their subject.
However, throughout these verses, both speakers also appeared to shift their acknowledgments into a
place of spite and jealously. As the reader began to unfold the nature of the literary works, tones from
worship, hardship, and bitterness are all keenly painted throughout the speakers use of contrast,
repetition, and negativity by the name Richard Cory .
Tone, or the attitude of the writer towards a subject, is depicted equally and similarly in both poems.

taste that wine so instead, he is convinced that the wine will be the cure to his cough. The men
continue to explore the deep vaults, in which they are entirely filled of dead bodies from Montresor s

A Book Came From Jellicoe Road By Melina Marchetta
My selectiveness when I have to choose something to read came from Jellicoe Road, a novel written
by Melina Marchetta. The elements in the work played upon my emotions, causing them to overflow
and my world to expand. Beforehand, I would just look for a book to read and hope to enjoy it. After
reading Jellicoe Road, I now search for books with which I can make a personal connection. In my
emotions and my mind, I experience the events in the characters journeys. I use those literary
connections to escape my reality. The overwhelming emotions that come from reading literature are
crucial to finding the right novel. It has to make me cry, laugh, or form an attachment to the character.
I have to become both mentally and emotionally invested in the book because that causes me to
continue reading. Jellicoe Road is one of the books that feed my curiosity. In this book, Taylor
Markham goes through her own journey while another story is being told. Taylor Markham was left
by her mother at a 7 Eleven store that was located on Jellicoe Road when she was eleven years old.
She does not have any memory of her father except for one when she was sitting on his shoulders. As
she reaches her eleventh year at the Jellicoe School, she becomes the leader of her House. After school
hours, the adults do not know what the students are up to. There is a territory war between her school,
the Townies , and the Cadets , who are the other two house leaders from a school located in Sydney.

The Egyptian gods were important to the people and there were over 2,000 of them. The more famous
gods like Amun Ra, Mut, Osiris, and Horus had bigger roles than most of the gods but they were
equally as important. Different classes of people would worship different gods, and worshiped them in
different ways. Amun Ra was called The Hidden One. Amun had many names and served several
roles. The different ways to spell his name were Amun Ra, Amen Ra, Amon Re, and Ammon Ra.
There are two parts to this god. Amanuet was the female version of Amun Ra, and Ra was the male
version. Amun Ra s first role was known as Patron Saint of the Ancient Egyptian City of Thebs, which
is where he gained popularity by merging with Ra. His second role was to be King of Upper Egyptian
Gods. He was considered one of the most important Egyptian gods, second to Osiris. Amunet and
Amun both combined to be the kings of gods and goddesses. The Greeks equaled him with Zeus, and
Romans equaled him with Jupiter. His third role was creative power to give life, and he was
responsible for all life on Earth. Amun Ra was first worshiped in ... Show more content on

Egyptians called him Khonsu Who Lives on Hearts. When there was a new moon, he was known as
the Mighty Bull, because he was able to possess absolute power over the spirits which infested earth,
air, sea, and sky. The spirits were hostile to man and attacked his body by forms of sickness, diseases,

  • 2. The Value Stream Analysis ( Vsa ) Essay spent several years in the military trying to convince leaders to use Lean principles to improve their operations. But even when presented with an action plan based on the Value Stream Analysis (VSA) of a costly process, the action plan was rarely implemented by the very organizational leaders who requested the analysis in the first place. There always seemed to be resistance to using Lean tools that could have led to some very big improvements. At first, I couldn t figure out why. But after a while, I started noticing certain patterns in the language of reluctant leaders that pointed to some key underlying causes for resistance. These causes seemed to boil down to the following: 1. Lack of Understanding of Lean Language 2. We Are Different Because We Are Not A Manufacturing Organization 3. Organizational Stove Pipes 4. The True Cost Of Wasteful Processes Not Measured 5. Mobility Of Leadership Personnel Lean principles can help organizations improve profitability through improved cycle times, productivity and quality, by removing waste from work processes and systems. The resulting reduction in waste also leads to reductions in operating costs. But Lean was born in the manufacturing world. So some of the core concepts pertain to assembly line set ups and still use that language (work in process inventory, flow cells, kanban based pull systems, etc.). Even so, there are many examples of service companies successfully using Lean tools. One of the largest and well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Predictably Irrational Analysis This week s reading Predictably Irrational was very valuable, and informative. While coming up with so many ways of thinking when it comes to behavior, I had no idea even existed. We talked last week about being rational, but this week and this week s reading it discussed more about irrational, and predictable behavior. At the end of this summary I hope to have showed and understand the difference when it comes to irrational and predictable theories that can disrupt behavior, and decision making. When it came down to a specific model I wasn t quite sure which one we are talking about, because in the book Dan Ariely in my opinion has quite a few different experiment, models that are used to help better understand his argument. The model about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first chapter I enjoyed was chapter 10, The Power of Price. The chapter talked about experiments suggest that more expensive things, higher perceived value have a better placebo effect. The experiment is where the people drank an energy drink, and those who had the more expensive version did better in a puzzle. However, the group who had the drink whose bottle specifically said that it helps people do better in puzzles, they actually did better than the group with the blank bottle. To me that showed me just how pictures and the things we see really do impact our decision making. If we see a name brand energy drink compared to a knock off brand energy drink does the name brand energy work better? I have been in those situations where I have felt a Red Bull did better than a monster energy drink, just because the Red Bull is more expensive. Both energy drinks in my opinion work the same, and to be honest who is to say they aren t the same drink? I can just be different price and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Storage Of Data Warehouse Essay Every organizations have their own independent Data Warehouse and due to increase in the number of transactions, the size of the data is also increasing. Data warehouse is the central repository of information for an organization. There are multiple data sources like OLTP, excel, csv, txt, xml, etc, that are generated from various systems and are populated to data warehouse by ETL and thus Data Warehouse stores the summarized integrated business data in a central repository. The Data Warehouse is used for the analytical applications (OLAP On Line Analytical Processing), decision making, data mining and user applications. ETL plays an important role in building the Data Warehouse. In the traditional way of ETL, all the analysis, activities and operations are stopped and then the refreshment of data warehouse will be done. Since this will be done in off peak hours, the Data Warehouse will not be having the latest operational transactions and hence there is no freshness of data. This problem is called by Data Latency. Near Real time Data Warehousing is a solution for this problem. It will update the Data Warehouse in near real time manner, immediately after change data detected in data source. Thus, data latency can be minimized. In order to develop the near real time data warehouse, there are problems which were previously not found in the traditional ETL process. The objective of this dissertation is to find the solutions for the problems at each stage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyzing Pina Bausch One Of The Most Influential What a treasure is inherent in our bodies that expresses itself without words, and how many stories can be told without uttering a single sentence. Wim Wenders. Obsessive, infuriating, exhausting, magnetic, Provocative, Feminist, Extraordinary, Brilliant, Poetic, A Crock, Indulgent, Deadening, and Superficial are just a few words used to describe Pina Bausch one of the most influential and controversial choreographers of the twentieth century. The high priestess of Tanztheatre changed the dance landscape forever. Her boundless imagination and provocative choreography changed the perception of what could be thought of as dance. Her searing, psychologically raw choreography pushed societal boundaries. She combined potent dramas and dreamlike movements to create a powerful form of dance theater that influenced generations of dancemakers her amazing body of work stands testament to her enduring vision, innovation and creativity. She was motivated only by emotional truth and was not frightened to put difficult and paradoxical feelings on stage. Every detail was important to Bausch, every movement, gesture, because all of it was in service to the piece. Bausch didn t consider what she did as choreography, but as expressing feelings by whatever means will best convey them. Pina was a shy child, she was afraid to speak, dancing gave her a voice. Due to my undiagnosed learning disability, I often misinterpreted or failed to understand rules and instructions without my parents realizing it. My parents thought that I was just being difficult so they would yell at me or punish me and because I had no idea what I had done wrong, I felt like I was a bad kid because I was always getting in trouble. I would also misinterpret what my parents were trying to say a lot of the time, which was also often damaging to my self esteem. For example, when I scored my first goal playing hockey I was so excited and proud of myself and thought my parents would be too, since they would always tell our family if one of my siblings scored. However, my dad told me that he did not care if I scored a goal and I interpreted it to mean that he did not care about me or that I scored and only cared if my siblings did, but what he meant was that he was proud of me whether I scored or not as long as I was doing my best. My parents also damaged my self esteem by belittling me or shaming me when they got frustrated because I was not doing what they wanted. For example, my parents would say things like, why can t you be more like your sister, she can put her seat belt on, why can t you? . This led me to feel like there was something wrong with me and that I wasn t good enough. It also caused me to start comparing myself to my siblings, which made me feel inadequate because it seemed like no matter how hard I tried, I could never measure up to what they could do. The main character and narrator of the novel Holden Caulfield describes his last few days before his parents receive a letter informing them that Holden has been kicked out of Pencey Prep for flunking every class but English. Holden discusses the real world around him as he sees it and talks about how phony the people around him are due to his own insecurities and phoniness. Holden s biggest flaw is that he is afraid to change and grow up. The main character talks about the lives of the guys he goes to school with and the typical teenage behavior that they all partake in. For example, Holden has been expelled from multiple schools, been in fights, smokes, swears, and talks about the stereotypical conversations between teenage males. Holden s roommate, who he calls Stradlater, is the quintessential example of a player in the novel. Holden says that Stradlater has been with many girls and never truly cared about it until Stradlater mentions the name Jane Gallagher. Jane Gallagher was a close friend of Holden who he used to play checkers with and would spend plenty of time with. • 10. The Indian Health Service This article offers a brief history of the laws governing AI/AN (American Indian/Alaskan Native) health policy, as well as recent trends and contemporary issues. A long history of underfunding of the Indian Health Service (IHS) has led to serious challenges in providing proper care. One law designed to meet these challenges was the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act, enacted in 1975. This law authorized AI/AN tribes to take over the management of health programs, carry over funding,. and receive third party revenue, as well as made them eligible for grants and assisted them with contract support costs. More recently, Medicaid expansion under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) should increase the number of AI/AN individuals eligible for and enrolled in Medicaid. This should result in increased access to health services for the high percentage of AI/AN adults living at or below the federal poverty level in 2009 (20.4%). Still, the problem of inadequate health care persists, as the Indian Health Service (IHS) budget has not kept pace with medical inflation and the increases in AI/AN population. Long term underfunding of the IHS is a contributing factor to AI/AN health disparities. To bring the IHS budget to an equitable level similar to federal employee health benefits would require approximately an additional $3 billion per year. With a Department of Health and Human Services budget of more than $800 billion per year, this increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

O Connor described The Misfit as a calm, polite, analytical, morally confused, murderer with leadership skills and strong white teeth. This archetype, a person who can be perfectly calm while being aggressive and lacks a sense of right or wrong, has also been an interest of study in the medical field. Throughout their journey, Ma becomes a Moses like figure but leading the family through hard times and tries to keep the family together. She kept the family moving towards California even though Grandma was dead in her lap. California was the promised land for the Joad s and other Okies and Ma led the family there. The Literary Canon On The Black Arts Movement Laqu er Clark English 1305 05 Dr. Boone March 2, 2016 The Literary Canon How did the Black Arts Movement change the white supremacist of the Literary Canon? Before one can go on to answer this question, students must understand exactly what a literary canon is. Literary canon is a term used widely to refer to a group of literary works that are considered the most important of a particular time period or place. Before the 1960 s the canon was widely referred to as the Western Canon. However after the Black Arts Movement several African Americans authors emerged adding diversity and ideas from the point of view of racial and ethnic minorities, which was not valued by the mainstream at the time. In the famous essay Cultural Revolution and the Literary Canon, Amiri Baraka s states The 1960 s had raised questions of the multicultural and multinational character of society and had challenged the white supremacist origins of the so called literary canon. Throughout this essay we will discuss how the Black Arts Movement played a major part in changing and challenging the white supremacist of the Literary Canon. The Western Canon is the body of books, music, and art that Western scholars generally accept as the most important and influential in shaping Western culture. In a bureaucratic setting, the predictability of behavior and the probability that it will be functional in organizational terms are greatly enhanced by the limited number of behavioral alternatives (Presthus, 1958, p. 56). Japan Culture Stereotype and the actual culture of Japanese employees and the success of these companies should be taken into consideration. Research has found that Japanese employees have unusually strong identification with the company, but not necessarily high job satisfaction or strong commitment to the performance of specific job tasks (Lincoln Kalleberg, 1985, p.738). The Japanese workers have longer work hours, low wages and yet have higher loyalty of employees. It is speculated that Japanese Managers have contributed towards the success of the company and held to higher standards to ensure productivity from their employees. Japanese companies will look to and respect the senior workers, which demonstrates respect and appropriate organization behaviors. • 22. Critical Assessment Of An Essay Critical Assessment When writing an essay it is essential to allow for the piece to develop and become its own organic living being. The author must allow for the paper to make mistakes therefore it can review itself and correct any confusion. This procedure of making and amending blunders can occur as many times as possible for the paper to fully evolve. Thenceforth the author must be able to look objectively at their essay and evaluate how effectively the message is being portrayed. The capability to adequately evaluate and reflect upon one s essay is what separates the good essays from the superb ones. The essential criteria to what makes a good essay is an accomplished thesis statement, lively transitional wording, and impactful verb choices. While examining my first essay i quickly identified its shortcomings relative to my essential criteria. It was clear to me that my thesis statement lacked directness and did not properly engage the reader. It was too narrow in scope, while, correspondingly failing to provide the reader with direction for the rest of the paper. The thesis was probably the main downfall of the entire essay because it was difficult to tie in what i was writing back to a weak thesis statement. Additionally the paper had close to zero transitional phrases and when they did appear they seemed awkward and forced. This resulted in an essay that felt choppy and probably was uncomfortable for the reader to process. The reason for having transitional words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Death In Holy Sonnet 10 And Philip Larkin s Aubade Part of being human is understanding we are not immortal, and will eventually cease to function. For some, this acknowledgement is a daunting reality swept into the back of the mind to be forgotten. While for others it is an inspiring awareness that encourages us to live every day to its fullest potential. Both of these feelings about death can be seen in John Donne s, Holy Sonnet 10 and Philip Larkin s, Aubade . Together they challenge the reader to accept their fate and make the most of the time we have on Earth. Both authors employ various poetic devices and prosody to give an understanding of death. John Donne s Holy Sonnet 10 serves as both a direct address towards death, and as a sermon on what happens after death for those who practice Christianity. The speaker gives reassurance to those who may fear death and what comes afterwards. Even though the speaker is discussing a somber matter, the overall tone of the poem is uplifting thereby further challenging the typical way people view death. The speaker belittles death when he/she questions death s magnitude and power over humans. Throughout the poem, the speaker compares death to a restful slumber. Rests are temporary states that bring much pleasure (Line 6). By relating death to sleep, the speaker says death is not permanent, but rather a momentary phase that ultimately will bring happiness. Death is a phase and after one short sleep past, we wake eternally (Line 13). This relates to the Christian belief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Minimum Wage Thesis The modern minimum wage was established by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA) Franklin Roosevelt signed the law which passed by an overwhelming majority (Grossman, 1978). While a minimum wage is certainly an altruistic idea and one that receives widespread public support, there is a question among economists such as Richard Burkhauser as to the effectiveness of minimum wage on reducing the level of poverty. Minimum wage increases (1998 2003) did not affect poverty rates overall, or among the working poor (Burkhauser Sabia, 2007). In addition, some of the minimum wage laws which came before the FLSA were challenged in the Supreme Court, such as in Schecter Poultry Corporate v. U.S in 1935, and declared unconstitutional. The codes created confusion amongst workers as well as corporations and resulted in situations where workers were making different hourly rates at different times of the day (Jones, 2011). The NIRA was eventually ruled unconstitutional by the decision in Schecter Poultry Corporate v. U.S in 1935. Finally, Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, the last major piece of the New Deal legislation, which was signed into law by Franklin Roosevelt. The FLSA was the first blanket federal minimum wage law passed by Congress, which covered workers in nearly all industries. The touted benefits of a federal minimum wage were stated by FDR, I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country (Roosevelt, 1933). Roosevelt wanted to be clear that he did not define a living wage by the ability to survive rather that those receiving a minimum wage should be living in some level of comfort.
