Introduction
The issue should never be about the extinction of any animal, it should always be about the cruelty
and exploitation which will lead to their extinction. (Save endangered animals) Snakes are mostly
feared by the general public but some are not that harmful and just want their natural home back.
The saint Lucia racer is a very miniature snake that is not widely known about its native home is
being invaded by lots of different species. Currently it holds the title of the world s rarest snake.
Due to the alien mongoose the saint Lucia Racer is slowly being wiped from the face of the

serpent is commonly found in drier areas along central east and west coasts.Another local snake
is the Boa Constrictor, common name Tete Chien. It is part of the Boidae family. The snakes
ground color is light brown , side with dark spots and light centers, belly is yellow with black
spots. The snake also has a brown line running from its snout through its eye. It is commonly said to
look like the dog tГЄte de Chien. This happens to be a non poisonous snake, making it not
harmful to humans, but they are still able to defend themselves in most cases . Without venom
they resort to other methods of defence or killing. They kill prey by grabbing and enveloping it
in tight coil making it impossible for the prey to escape. The prey dies because their breathing
and heartbeat is stopped due to the cut off circulation. The next local snake is the Worm Snake ,
its scientific name is Cnemidophorus Vanzo .It is featured in the Guinness Book of world
records as the world s smallest snake. It happens to be only six inches long and one eighth of an
inch wide. It has brassy yellow lines down its back to the tip of its tail . The eyes of the worm
snake are narrow and covered by its scales. They mostly live their life underground and only
come to the surface when it is raining. Meanwhile it eats soil insects , ant and termites they
locate said food by smelling it out . Their eyes don t form clear images so they are sensitive to
changes in light intensity. Their eyes are reduced and almost completely black. It also varies in

Slavery And The American Revolution Essay
Slavery originated as early as the 1600 s when Britain shipped 3.1 million Africans to British
owned colonies in the Caribbean. The new idea of slavery brought controversial ideals and created
a historical movement that effected even the peoples of today. Slavery is a form of manipulation
that was excused as a conscious way to provide economic growth in Caribbeanand European
colonies. It then revolutionized itself into a much bigger issue; many didn t anticipate it could also
revolutionize the world. The Haitian Revolution of 1759 evoked a social change that transformed
the Caribbean countries, Cuba and Haiti, while slowly expanding the idea of the abolition of slavery
. Through traumatic social events, slavery was justified as a way to sustain economics while it
simultaneously harmed the lives of the enslaved.
During the years of 1700 1830 s the slaves took part in a series of revolts. Seeing as it was
unethical to enslave humans, they demanded their rights and wanted to end their cruel forms of
labor. Many slaves, knowing the risk, took part in Tacky s rebellion in 1760s in Jamaica, the

Love in Lolita
Some critics read Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita as a story of Humbert s unrequited love for the title
character; others consider it a record of the rant ings of a mad pedophile, with, as Humbert himself
admits, a fancy prose style. Nabokov s innovative construction, in fact, highlights both of these
aspects as it reinforces and helps develop the novels main theme: the relationship between art and
experience. By allowing Humbert to narrate the details of his life with Lolita, Nabokov illustrates
the difficulties inherent in an attempt to order experience through art. As he tries to project an ideal
vision of his relationship with Lolita, Humbert manipulates readers responses to him in order to
gain sympathy and to effect a suspension of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My Lohta had a way of raising her bent left knee at the ample and springy start of the service
cycle when there would develop and hang in the sun for a second a vital web of balance between
toed foot, pristine armpit, burnished arm and far back flung racket, as she smiled up with
gleaming teeth at the small globe suspended so high in the zenith of the powerful and graceful
cosmos she had created for the express purpose of falling upon it with a clan resounding crack of
her golden whip.
Humbert illustrates the depths of his feeling for her when he admits that in his assessment of their
life together, everything gets mixed up with the exquisite stainless tenderness seeping through the
musk and the mud, through the dirt and the death, Oh God, oh God And what is most singular is
that she, this Lolita, my Lolita, has individualized the writer s ancient lust, so that above and over
everything there is Lolita.
The wit and humor Humbert invests in his artistic reconstruction of his past further gain readers
sympathy and restrict their efforts to judge him. New Yorker contributor Donald Malcolm observes,
an artful modulation of lyricism and jocularity quickly seduces the reader into something very like
willing complicity. The memoir contains several examples of Humbert s verbal brilliance and quick
wit, but the most inventive occurs at the end during his comic scene with Clare Quilty, presented as
Humbert s evil twin. In their death struggle, which

Effects Of The Attack On Pequot Fort
The attack on Pequot Fort was a brutal, one sided battle between the Pequot people, fellow
Natives Americans, and the Englishmen. The Pequot fought very hard and stood their ground
during the battle. In John Underhill s account, he mentions that he and Captain Mason set fire to
the fort. This led to many deaths of the Pequot people as most of them stayed and fought through
the Palisadoes. The Pequot were slowly losing the war as their warriors died and their weaponry
destroyed in the flames. Those who ran from the fire were killed by the colonists themselves.
Those who survived the fire and fought back were killed nonetheless. The Englishmen had
advanced warfare compared to the Natives. The Colonists had swords, Carbines, and Muskets while

Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
When a word or a phrase is repeated over and over again, it tends to become stronger in meaning
and it sticks in the subconscious. Welsh writer and poet Dylan Thomas was born in 1914 and
died in 1953. He wrote numerous works throughout his lifetime and exclusively wrote in the
English language. One such work was titled Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. In the
poem, the narrator of an unknown gender urges the reader to not give up on life and to
passionately fight to keep living. The main literary device Thomas uses is repetition, and he uses
this tool with certain phrases to give emphasis and to make the meaning of his words stronger.
Titles are important, and the multiple use of this poem s title emphasizes the meaning behind the
poem. For example, in almost every stanza, the phrase do not go gentle into that good night
(659) is used. These words are passionately used to plead to the reader not to give up so easily on
life. The poet is talking to readers of who have thoughts of hopelessness in life and cannot find
meaning to their existence. Symbolically, the use of the word night is the end of the ... Show more

toward the readers about fighting for life. Do not go gentle into that good night is the title, but also
repeated multiple times in the poem to put a deep emphasis on fighting to live against the inevitable
death. Every day, people hear and see repetition all around as commercials repeat sales and slogans
to intensify what they re saying and to burn them into our brains (Wilson). In this poem, the
repetition of phrases burn into the memory of the readers and help the reader understand the deeper

Theories Of Knowledge And Psychological Applications Essay
Theories of Knowledge and Psychological Applications
How individuals are able to obtain knowledge is something that psychologists have studied for a
number of years. The ability to store and retrieve knowledge provides individuals with the
propensity to form logical thought, express emotions and internalize the world around them. In
order for a psychologist to understand the theories of knowledge it is necessary to investigate the
aspects of the theories. In this paper we examine the history , the basic construct, the similarities of
the theories and how those theories relate to psychological therapies. History of the theories

Many new theorists would enter the field of neural network models, but it was the work of
Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland that would simplify the way we would view such models
(Arbib, 1995). It was in 1986 that Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland developed their network
model. It was and still is regarded as one of the most notable network theories. This is true because
they structured their theory in a clear, concise, and intelligible manner (Martindale ,1991).
Neural network models have evolved during the past sixty years. The initial theories were
extremely difficult to comprehend and they were not interchangeable with a broad range of topics.
Today s theories are simpler to understand because they are less complex. The theories are capable
of encompassing numerous topics.
The dual coding approach is one that believes that knowledge is a series of complex associative
networks. Within these networks we find imaginal and verbal representations. These verbal and
nonverbal representations are means that facilitate the retrieval and storage of knowledge (Paivio,
1986).
The individual who was at the fore front of the development of the dual coding theory was Allan
Paivio. He did research in the area of verbal and nonverbal representations during the 1960 s.

Summary Of Ellen G. White s Ministry Of Healing
In the book Ministry of Healing by Ellen G. White, there are several messages that a health care
provider can learn from and take away to implement into their practice. White discusses several
ideas that relate to being a good steward, family, a marriage, ministry, healthy living, and spiritual
health. For me being a good steward translates to seeking to be like Jesusin every area of my life.
Ellen G. White speaks about how to be an example to others. One of the ways that she suggests
we do that is by being a reflection of Jesus. We are to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and
comfort the suffering and afflicted. We are to minister to the despairing, and to inspire hope in the
hopeless (White, 1936, p.66). These are ways that we can be... Show more content on

things that they have been called to do. White states This is the position of the true child of God
willing to go where duty calls, to deny self, to sacrifice for the Redeemer s cause (p.366). She
goes on to state that an individual should work with all eagerness and be willing to sacrifice their
own desire to accomplish the will of God. By doing these things an individual prepares themselves
for the things that they will face throughout their life, but they will also have the assurance that God

A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll Essay
A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two
horrific tales of science gone terribly wrong. Shelley?s novel eloquently tells the story of a
scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who creates a living monster out of decomposed body parts, while
Stevenson?s novel describes the account of one, Henry Jekyll, who creates a potion to bring out the
pure evil side to himself. Although the two scientists differ in their initial response and action to
their creations, there are strong similarities between their raging curiosity to surpass human
limitation, as well as their lack of responsibility concerning their actions. These similarities raise an

(Stevenson 107). Here, Henry Jekyll displays his awe and wonder of his new discovery. He feels
a sense of power and overwhelming wickedness. From the quotation, it seems appropriate to
conjecture that Dr. Jekyll was enthusiastic about testing out his ?new creation,? as if he were a
child and it a toy.
Here, is another difference between the two doctors. Dr. Frankenstein(after realizing what he has
done) halts all of his experiments and does away with his laboratory anything to get his mind of
his terrible creation. He travels around, always watching his back expecting his creature to be
there. Dr. Frankenstein has many qualities of the classic Byronic hero; a character that shows
romanticized sorrow and pity for himself. ? . . . I am a blasted tree,? he says, ?the bolt has
entered my soul; and I felt then that I should survive to exhibit what I shall soon cease to be a
miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity, pitiable to others and intolerable to myself? (Shelley
153). In this quotation, he shows romanticized self pity and remorse for what he has created.
Victor calls himself a ?miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity.? By this he feels his life is over;
he can no long face the world a decent man.
Dr. Jekyll, on the other hand, like a child, is thrilled with his new discovery and wishes to tamper

How Did Hitler Become Chancellor
To what extent was the Great Depression responsible for Hitler becoming chancellor in 1933?
Germany was already lingering with the unhappiness of the Treaty of Versailles and the
Hyperinflation that happened in the early 1920 s this made the people of Germany lose all faith in
the government of the Weimar Republic. Combined with the massive hit of the Great Depression
the German people and President Hindenburg decided to turn to the Nazi party for support.
Primarily, the Great Depression was mostly responsible for Hitler becoming chancellor in 1933
because it made civilians look to extremism. Businesses shut down due to hyperinflation, in 1925
almost 1 million people were unemployed and in 1932 nearly 6 million people were unemployed.

that he did it. The Reichstag fire was a fire which took place on the Nazis home base, similar to
the Beehive we have here in Wellington, New Zealand. However this was is in Berlin, Germany.
Hitler blamed the Great Depression on others and the civilians believed him. He would say that
he could end and solve problems that other political parties started. Hitler promised people jobs,
security and holidays. These were things people needed and wanted because of the Great
Depression. This made Hitler seem like he could relieve people from their troubles which made
civilians like him. This and Hitler s ability to speak in front of a large crowd was one of the
factors that helped him to become chancellor in

until 2 years later when they found out they were actually good and thought they could go

music they made and pass out mixtapes in clubs all around Atlanta Georgia as the name Polo

6.03 Calorimetry Lab
The objective of this lab was first to convert the mass of a compound to the number of moles and
number of molecules and then determine the concentration of salt and its component. The first
thing we did was get the mass of an empty container by using a scale and it came out to be
16.87g. Next thing we did was pick a substance which in this case it was Potassium Chloride and
placed it on the scale to get a total massof 31.20g. The container the Potassium Chloride was in

mass to the number of moles we took the amount of the substance 14.33g and divided it by the

Then we took 8.35mL of salt water and put it in the evaporating dish which we placed over a

was 83.39g which means the mass of the sodium chloride was 0.622g. Next we took the mass
and divided it by the volume of the solution which was 8.35mL and got 0.074 as the original
concentration. To the get molarity of the salt solution we had to divide the concentration by the
mass of the sodium chloride and then multiply by 1000mL to get 1.3M of salt solution. Final
thing we had to do was determine the number ions present in 8.35mL so we took 1.3 moles of

Analysis Of Graeme Turner s Understanding Celebrity
Introduction
A celebrity is defined by the media and society through characterisations; the introduction of various
on line and print media platforms enhance the presence of celebrity culture, such for advertising,
activism, different genres of television (e.g. reality, gastronomical), and even political avenues as
well (Driessens). Their fame is developed based on prominence cum establishment in the
entertainment industry that transforms their recognition into a popular culture. In Graeme Turner s
Understanding Celebrity, he discusses the effects of contemporary popular culturerepresenting
celebrity as an icon of cultural change (Turner Understanding Celebrity). The power of a celebrity
uses his status and popularity to create discourse with the public and media; how each present
themselves to an audience in performances or marketing, these functions as general tokens of
success in their glamourous lives (Driessens). The discursive effect in the celebrity contemporary
culture aligns close to religion, with some qualities credited to particular celebrities and religious
figures. The way some fans admire their celebrity figures reflects a spiritual experience, as fans
view their idol as a person with immortal talents and influential qualities. This phenomenon is
linked to how the media glorifies the celebrity and thus, produces a celebrated figure with an
astounding influence amongst the public (Turner Understanding Celebrity). As a result, the
celebrity s economic value is

Spanish Conquest Of Aztecs Essay
Conquest of the Aztecs
The Aztecs were thriving prior to the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in 1519. Their
economy was booming and the population of their capital city, Tenochtitlan, was rising steadily.
With the population of the Aztec empire peaking to nearly five million, how did one of the world
s greatest empires crumble by 1521, a mere two years? By a massively over powered Spanish
conquest? The following reasons attributed and caused the demise of what was one of the most
dominant Mesoamerican colonies.
When the Spanish arrived in Mesoamerica, their technology was far superior to that of the native
people. Their guns, cannons and even horses where alien to both the Aztecs and their neighbouring
tribes. This technology made the Aztecs respect, and even worship the Spanish conquistadors as
gods and idols. The Aztecs didn t know how to combat these new technologies, leaving them

Optomatologist Personal Statement
During my high school career, I became fascinated with the workings and functions of our eyes
while attending an internship at an ophthalmologist s office. Through my time there I was fortunate
to be able to shadow and assist both the ophthalmologists and optometrists. While taking corneal
topographies of patients eyes before they were examined, my interest continued to grow and that
interest blossomed into a desire to pursue this as a career when I had the opportunity to witness my

it could allow the patient to see better, changing their life.
Predictably, this interest led me to work at an optometrist s office, and during the years I have ...

between diet and nutrition and various nutrition related eye conditions. To gain more hands on

affecting general optical health at an earlier age. Research indicates that this is largely due to the
overall increase in both sodium and sugar intake, in children, and that nutrition is extremely
important in overall eye health.
Through all of these experiences, the most important thing I have learned is that there is so much
more to learn. With continued research the science is constantly growing, with more information

Technology Is A Bad Thing
Advances in Technology Technology has advanced in all shapes and forms and there is no sign
of it stopping. It has changed the way many of us see the world today. If our ancestors would be
alive, they would think it is a completely different place. Many consumers believe that
technology is a bad thing because they see the ugly side of change. Most people if not all simply
do not want to accept it or perhaps they notice those consumers who make mistakes and abuse
technology. Despite it being an unseen act of technology, society is continuously changing to
uphold a set of standards never before held for the sake of the future. We witness generations
grasping a general idea of how to use the complex devices starting at a young age. The younger
users are able to use their devices with ease and breeze through applications at an outstanding
rate. For example, my younger siblings know exactly how to unlock my phone and swipe
through pages of applications and know exactly what game to use. I have witnessed them logging
in on my computers and perhaps search the web to watch their favorite videos online. This idea of
teaching the future generations at a young age to develop technological skills is a great
opportunity for them to have for the sake of their jobs. It is like we are preparing them to
advanced and not stay behind. The advances in technology is increasing at a rapid rate creating new
types of jobs and opportunities brightening the future of the next generation. Since

Jacques Louis David Essay
David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his
influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was
reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with
tradition, and from this break modern artis dated.
David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four
times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His
pursuit of the antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He
borrowed classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he

During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most
distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured
models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such
as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are
enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible.
Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748.
In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed.
He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the
instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class .
When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter
J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on
the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired
work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual
neoclassical style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on
Roman sculpture. His famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the
new neoclassical style in which

Olaudah Equiano s the Interesting Narrative of the Life of...
Olaudah Equiano s The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa,
the African, Written by Himself, is the story of the eponymous real life character, Olaudah
Equiano, his life, trials, tribulations and journey from slavery at an early age to freedom. For
Equiano, it seems that slaveryis almost a metaphysical phenomenon. His entire life is essentially
characterized by the different experiences relating slavery, from Africato the Middle Passage to
plantation life in the West Indies and United States. Equiano s views on slavery are tough to
articulate and truly complex. Throughout the novel he makes reference to different degrees of
slavery, at times condemning the practice, and at other times contradicting... Show more content on

He details being shocked and hurt to the point where he tries to wash the color of his skin off his
face.
While travelling the seas with Pascal, Equiano has many more encounters in and with Britain. With
more and more exposure to Christianity and European culture, he details that he was no longer
frightened and apprehensive towards it, beginning to show confluence of African and European
cultures. He was eventually sent to school in Britain, educated and shortly after, baptized. It is
worth noting that later in the novel he often relates his new religious standpoint to his enslavement.
While becoming a Christian himself, whether or not he holds responsible God, himself, or the
hypocritical Christian Europeans for his enslavement is left ambiguous.
Ultimately, (and after brief stints of being purchased by other masters) Equiano is sold to Robert
King. Educated and under the direction of a master treating him relatively fair, Equiano here
observes another facet of slavery. He is further educated and directed along the path of Christianity,
which I believe further adds more conflicting emotion, due to it being comparable to his original
notion of slavery from his childhood. While working for King on shipping routes, he determines
himself to save some money on the side, in order to buy his freedom from King. Interesting to note
though, in the novel he explicitly states that he would like to return to Old England, not Africa.

Selecting An Real Estate Agent Essay
Buying Resale Properties
If you are looking to buy a private property or HDB flat in Singapore, make sure that you know
all the pitfalls before you sign on the dotted line. Here are some of the major things you should
look out for to avoid getting into a legal or financial tangle during the transaction.
Selecting an Real Estate Agent
You need to select an agent to service you. Find one who is familiar with the location and type of
property you have in mind. Make sure the agent is from a Listed Housing Agency and also a
member of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA). Discuss your requirements with him and be
specific. This will allow him to advise and service you in a professional manner.
Ownership
Always ensure that the seller is the actual owner of the property. You may wish to request for proof
when you are making the purchase.
Eligibility to sell
Ensure that the seller of the property is eligible to sell the property. For a private property that is
mortgaged to a bank, if the seller has lost money on the sale, and is unable to top up the shortfall on
his bank loan, the bank may not allow the seller to go through with the transaction.
For an HDB flat (except one room flats), there is a minimum occupation period whereby the
seller must physically occupy the flat before he would be eligible to sell the flat. For a flat
bought directly from the HDB or a resale flat bought with a CPF housing grant, the seller must
physically occupy the flat for five years before he can sell

Agriculture Interview
What do you think about when someone says Agriculture ? I think about all the hard working men
and women who have jobs associated with agriculture. For example, veterinarians, agronomists,
wildlife inspectors, and even my ag teacher. Today, I have interviewed my cousin, Sarah Marx, to
help build interest for myself as well as others in agriculture. Sarah grew up in Beemer, Nebraska.
So, agriculture has been an interest of her s her entire life. Sarah was apart of the Beemer Dreemers

Sarah lives on a farm in Wisner, Nebraska where she has a horse training camp. She is also one of

these students use DACA to get an education and stay in this country. I have talked to many of
these students, and not one of them came over on their own when they were one or two years of

Literary Analysis Of Tenzing Norgay And Sir Edmund Everest
The rugged ascent of Mount Everest is every insane climbers dream, but nightmare at the same
time. The steep and deadly slopes of the towering Mountain are illustrated and portrayed in the
minds of the readers throughout the abstract and meaningful poem; The Summit. This poem is all
about the intrepid and enduring journey up Mount Everest, taken on by the courageous pioneers;
Tenzing Norgayand Sir Edmund Hillaryin the year of 1953. The poem itself uses various different
types of language features to hook and intrigue the readers.
On they plodded, Martian weird, With pouted mask and icicle beard in these lines the poem
talks about the equipment Hillary and Tenzing used on their expedition. The author uses a
metaphor to describe how they looked like during the climb really adds effect and again can
make you imagine that all their gear and masks made them look weird like martians, the
metaphor used in these lines really helps to paint a picture of the situation in the reader s mind. It
shows you what they went through and what they had to do to reach their goal. The lines also
show you that you have to be a little weird and step out of your comfort zone to fulfill your goals
and dreams. Confidence is essential for success.
Every single one of the lines in The Summit has some sort of deeper meaning behind them. For
instance, here are a couple of lines extracted from the poem; Their steps were weary, keen was
the wind, Fast vanishing their oxygen fuel, These lines present to the reader how dangerous and
punishing the journey was. The climbers were tired and worn to the soul, you can tell this from
line Their steps were weary. One of the lines; keen was the wind, This line includes personification,

environment the climbers had to endured through throughout the entirety of their journey. Fast

shows that you didn t have a say in how much long you had time you had to live on Everest, in

NSA Surveillance Cons
The presence of national surveillance in the United States is a widely debated topic, and there are
many positives and negatives to both sides. Although it has been operating for such a lengthy time,
the true actions of the NSA were revealed recently in the Snowden Leaks of 2013. Many state that
the NSA is good and necessary because they have nothing to hide and because it will prevent future
terrorist attacks. However, others argue that the surveillanceviolates the Fourth Amendment and is
useless. Even though there appear to be many pros of having the NSA operate as they currently do,
they should be disregarded because such intrusive surveillance is unlawful, racist, and ineffective.

The arguments of those who support the NSA have been refuted in the above paragraphs as they
are illogical and unfounded. The NSA has twisted the Fourth Amendment so much that it is nearly
unrecognizable, and it has even created new laws in order for the government to deem its actions
as legal . Surveillance is also convincing agents to incriminate innocent American citizens just
based on their religious affiliation. Agents are even willing to break laws in order to spy on certain
Muslim Americans, despite having no evidence incriminating them. Also, data mining demands
FBI agents to focus on collecting data and chasing false leads instead of investigating actual cases.
This causes the government to lose credibility in their citizens eyes, causing a large portion of the
public to withdraw their information from cloud computing companies, which will cost them up to
$35 million of revenue loss. Furthermore, the collection of data actually hinders the NSA s
counterrorism efforts because the NSA s analysts are unable to process the vast amount of
information that is being spewed at them. The mass amount of data that the NSA has acquired is
also a temptation to terrorists, thus making data collection even more useless. Ira Winkler, former
NSA analyst, concludes, So, besides knowing that it s illegal,

I Attended The University Symphony Orchestra Concert
I attended the University Symphony Orchestra Concert on Sep 30. Being my first ever

Reached UCA before time so that I could find a seat for myself and glance through the program

clothes, some of the musicians started working on the passages they needed to polish up before
the performance, with no regard for what anyone else is practicing. With time, the hall started to
fill up and just before start, I could see that it s a full house. I didn t know that so many people

Sugar and Its Effect on Our Bodies
Many foods and drinks around the world are laced with sugar and the sugar levels are indicated.
Sugar is added to not only sweeten things, but to also improve the texture. Sugar is to some extent
used as a preservative as well, for example, when added to cut up fresh berries, the berries remain
fresher for longer than one without sugar. Processed foods are likely to have higher sugar levels
than home cooked foods since adding sugar is a modest way adding volume and weight. Sugar also
aids in making inferior foods pleasant. Unfortunately for consumers, sugar escalates calories while
having no nutritional value to the consumer.
Effects of Sugar on our Bodies
Sugar comes in various forms and not just the white powder beet sugar we are used to. It comes
in the form of corn syrup, maple syrup and honey, and affects the body negatively in equal
measure. For example, excess sugar has adverse effects on metabolism and may lead to all
manner of diseases. Below I will discuss the top disturbing effects of added sugar and why people
should avoid or at least control their sugar intake.
пѓ Added sugar has no nutritional value to the body and is bad for the teeth. I am sure you have
heard this on numerous occasions, but it is worth reminding you. Added sugars such as fructose
corn syrup and sucrose contain high amounts of calories and zero essential nutrients. For this fact,
they are stereotyped as empty calories. When people consume 10 20% of calories as sugar, this

Definition Of Racism
Title When it comes to racism we all have our own opinion on what this term may mean. However,
when it comes to race, there are privileges not many of us have the opportunity to take advantage of
because on our ethnicities. The word racism can have different meanings depending on what your
own viewpoint is. Racismhas been common for plenty of decades and in fact, is very popular
today. In fact, well known speakers such as Beverly Daniel Tatum and Peggy McIntosh provide
their own viewpoints on the common topics of raceand racism. First, Beverly D. Tatum s
viewpoint on racism is that she does not see it as an act of hate, but rather she sees it as a system
of privileges based on one s own race (Sweeney, 33). Tatum makes it clear throughout this excerpt
that race determines the privileges you are guaranteed to receive and the fact that those
privileged individuals do not notice the power they have compared to others. She connects the
idea of white privilege with her definition of racism, and clearly states that racism could also be
connected with people of color; however, people of color are not racist because they do not
benefit from racism (Sweeney, 37). Tatum gives many examples of White privilege to support her
idea that racism is a system of advantage based on race. For instance, Tatum talks about one of her
students who was a White male that was in her psychology of racism course and that he did not
know how advantaged he was until the end of this class. This White

Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing
According to Perry and Potter (2014) Ethical Dilemma is a conflict between two sets of human
values, both of which are judged to be good but neither of which can be fully served. Nurses
regardless of what healthcare setting they work and of where they function in wide ranging roles,
face ethical dilemmas on their daily practices. Ethical behavior depends on several factors because
what a person consider as moral may vary from another individual s approach to the situation.
Resolving an ethical dilemma requires deliberate, critical, and systematic thinking because ethical
decisions that are made could have an impact to nurses, patients and families as well. (Potter, 2014)

Sounte,
As they say, normal it is all relative. What is normal to one culture may be taboo to another.
During the 1920s the population increased at record numbers, and movie theaters brought in a new

counter culture was more open minded than previous generations, and that was reflected in the way
they dressed. Conservative Catholics in the Catholic Legion of Decency did not like the escapism

The Hobbit And Lord Of The Rings
Once upon a time, before more mainstream genre defining fantasy works such as The Hobbit and
Lord of the Rings, before there even existed an actual fantasy genre at all, Lord Dunsany
masterfully crafted the fantastical The King of Elfland s Daughter, an opulent tapestry of a tale of
what could happen in a typical fairy tale following the happily ever after. Writing in the early years
of the twentieth century, Lord Dunsany was a pioneer in the fantasygenre. He very much belonged
to an earlier, perhaps more enlightened age, when fantasy writers were known for the beauty of
their prose as much as the fantastical nature of their stories. In her essay From Elfland to

Le Guin sees the act of speech in fantasy as the act of creation only the author can create (95),
and Lord Dunsany is a masterful creator in this sense. Since the rules of our world cannot be
used to understand fantastical realms, it is entirely fitting that our language is not adequate for
fantasy, either. To create what Tolkien calls a secondary universe is to make a new world. A
world where no voice has ever spoken before; where the act of speech is the act of creation. The
only voice that speaks there is the creator s voice. And every word counts (Le Guin 95). Because
of his lack of dialogue, this statement is especially true for Dunsany, who Le Guin maintains is the
most imitated, and the most inimitable, writer of fantasy (88). Dunsany s descriptions of
landscape, and the words his characters inhabit, make up the majority of The King of Elfland s
Daughter. We cannot rely on the characters to explain how the world they live in works, nor can we
infer this information through character interaction. We must rely almost entirely on the words
Dunsany uses in his descriptions to understand his worlds. Typical sentence structure and
vocabulary cannot give the reader the sense of wonder Dunsany aims to convey about his worlds,
whether they be typical English woods, or Elfland. Dunsany s language functions in a poetic and
musical style, and the repetition of certain phrases helps give his language this effect. It is

Should Heart Of Darkness Be Taught In Schools
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a highly debated book over whether or not it should be
read in schools. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to
African Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many
complex ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s
opposition to Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While
the opponents of Heart of Darknesssay that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the
book can be utilized in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable
and correct point that this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not
intend to convey racist perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards
Imperialism. Although it uses strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans
viewed Africans during the time period. This should be read in an academic environment because
it is a very well written text and can be used to show the effect of Imperialism during the 19th and

Essay On Wan Technologies
As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become
more and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use
every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to
connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their
networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end
these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and
any other remote resource to access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be
accomplished through a variety of WAN technologies that are used in the world today.

With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they
purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay
provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of
access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also
much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were
simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and
linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be
simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and
provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility
versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between
locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection
uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data
sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated
through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the
physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI
and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a

Birth Defect Essay
Raising a child with a birth defect
A birth defect is a physical or mental malformation present at birth. Some birth defects are visible

Additionally, some birth deficiencies are genetic, and others transpire when external factors affect a
child maturation in the womb. For instance, a child whose mother smoked during pregnancy is
vulnerable and likely to have a heart defect at birth.
A recent study contends that, in many occurrences, the birth of a child brings a sense of happiness
to parents, for this reason, many parents muses about getting a healthy child, realistically, there is
nothing wrong with wanting to have a healthy child with all his/her organ functioning customary.

As a parent or a guardian, you should admit the feeling of surprise, anger, and denial that devour
you. It is natural and very acceptable to feel emotionally disturbed but do not let it weigh you
down, talk to a counselor or a psychotherapist that can help you come in term with the new reality.
Seek specialized care. Early intervention is pivotal in evaluating your child s need and seeking
treatment for him/her. Getting nutrimental advice, distinguish which occupational therapy may suit
your child need and seek suitable professionals to coordinate with in your endeavor to make your
kid better.
Commemorate your child. A child with a congenital disability is prone to stigmatization, mainly
in a society that views a child weakness as a curse or worse, Insulate your child from the
surrounding discrimination.Raising a child with a birth defect should not be draining job to any
parent or guardian. Remember to let yourself enjoy your child the same way you could have if she

Comparison Of Koh Tao
The underwater world surrounding of Koh Tao has a diverse array of marine life and corals,
making it a fantastic destination to snorkel. Located in Thailand, Koh Tao is an island that offers
many snorkeling sites to explore the unique underwater world.
Primetime for Snorkeling Koh Tao
You can visit Koh Tao anytime of the year, which is part of the reason it is a top notch snorkeling
destination. The dry season stretches from November to April, which might be the best time to
visit. During this time temperatures range from 29В°C to 34В°C (84 94В°F), and there is little
rainfall. Year round, Thailand boasts picturesque scenery, beautiful weather, and a unique
underwater world waiting to be explored!
Sites for Snorkeling Koh Tao
The list of places for snorkeling Koh Tao is endless. There are beaches dotting the whole island,
which makes it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to some of the other sites, the middle of the bay is sandy with little marine life, so the
best snorkeling is along the rocky edges. The road to Mango Bay is not exactly safe, so you may
want to hire a long tail boat or rent a kayak to reach the area. Mango Bay is a great snorkeling site
because it has huge schools of fish, which can actually be seen from the surface. You will generally
find this throng of fish by the Mango Bay resort.
Getting to Koh Tao
This island can be a bit more difficult to reach than others in Thailand. The fastest way to get there
would be to fly into Koh Samui and then take the ferry to Koh Tao. This is also the most expensive
method, but it will get you there quickest.
Whichever way you choose to travel to Koh Tao, the underwater world awaits! Take in views of
magical sea creatures and stunning scenery while you snorkel Koh Tao. This is a great area to
see exotic fish, sea turtles, octopus and most definitely sharks! You can also see a variety of
corals, such as Brain, Whip, Table and Staghorn corals, along with many types of soft

Positive Advantages Of Millennials Staying Home During...
Advantages of Millennials Staying Home during College
For all generations, including millennials, the majority of students seeking a post secondary degree
have the traditional college experience. The traditional college experience includes students that
live on campus in a dormitory. Millennials take longer than past generations to become
independent and reach adulthood because they are still living with their parents. Many positive
factors lead millennials to stay home: cheaper living expenses, less stress, and the ability to focus
on their education. There are also many advantages for millennials living at home for college over
millennials living in a dorm. Living at home allows students to focus on schoolwork instead of
maintaining a dorm or other distractions. Parents can teach their children responsibilities and aid
with their college work while they stay at home. While millennials who move out experience
independence at an earlier age, they pick up negative habits such as addictions that hinder their
chance of being successful. Millennials who live at home during college have a greater advantage
over students moving out because they will have superior education, financial security,
responsibility, and no harmful habits to become successful and prosperous individuals.
Additionally, millennials staying at home during college instead of living independently is an
advantage over living alone because these millennials will eventually become autonomous,
successful

Analysis Of President Abbas s Adherence To The Power Of Power
The essence of this dissertation relies in arguing that one of the main factors of the PA s
adherence to security coordination despite its deviation from bilateral agreements in other regards
is Abbas s devotion to the power; capacities and benefits, which security coordination provides him
with. Using security coordination, Abbas established a monopoly over the use of force to cement
his leadership after he took over the reins from the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat
(Amrov and
Tartir, 2014). Moreover, as previously mentioned, Abbas s policy of crackdown on Islamists and
leftist in the West Bank is not only about maintaining law and order as the PA claims, but is about
keeping himself and the PA in power and preventing a repeat of... Show more content on

In a 2010 Maan News Agency poll, 78% of the respondents said that they believe that the PA
security forces are engaged in surveillance, monitoring activities, and intervening in people s
privacy under the name of security coordination (Tartir, 2017: 4). In 2013, the public opinion poll
conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center shows that after 20 years of signing
the Oslo Accords 55.4% of the Palestinians want to see security coordination terminated (Public
opinion word doc). However, the 2014 poll conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy
Studies shows that 80% of the Palestinians oppose security coordination and want it terminated
(Poll Arab).
This growing opposition was not formed out of the void, Palestinians have either been witnessing
their own security forces performing the job of the occupier and in a severer manner, or have seen
them stepping aside while the occupier conducts its operation in the territory that is supposed to be
under their jurisdiction (Clarno 2013, Tartir 2017, Sayigh 2011, Marten 2014). Security
coordination has transformed the Palestinian forces from defending their own people into asserting
domination over them. It has given them the leverage to do what Israel does starting from raids,
arrests, administrative detention, torture and ending with the

The Indian Boarding Schools
The Indian Boarding Schools In the late 1800s, Captain Richard Henry Pratt set out to Kill the
Indian in him, and save the man. (A Plea to Citizenize Indians). The goal to erase Indian cultures
and replace it with white American culture was sought to be achieved through boarding schools.
Pratt was the creator of the first Indian boarding school: Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania.
These government funded boarding schools would take children from their homes on reservation,
often for them to not see their family again until they are grown(lecture). Pratt s goal was to
eliminate the Indian culture and incorporate the Indian people into the more civilized (Marr)
American culture. This meant forcing the Indian students to speak only English and to give up all
cultural traditions, religions, names and take up Christianity and American sounding names.
Students were put into these boarding schools with little or no contact with their families for eight
to nine months of the year (Marr). These schools operated with minimal funds, so the education
was very insufficient. It was clear from the beginning; the actual goal was not to give quality
education for the Native American children but to get rid of the Indian culture. The conditions
within these boarding schools were often very poor for students. They were underfunded and
created on a basis of racism. There were two types of these schools: boarding schools and the
mission schools. The boarding schools were

Gerontological Nursing Essay
Aging is a normal part of life. In 2015, the elderly population has increased to 47.8 million and is
expected to be 98 million in the year of 2060 (Administration on Aging (AoA), Administration for
Community Living, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2016). This will lead to a
greater demand of gerontological nurses. Gerontological nursing is important to meet the health
needs of the elderly. The purpose of this post is to discuss the reasons why gerontological nursing
is an under served area of practice and why we need more gerontological nurses.
The term gerontological nurse means that a registered nurse is specialized in taking care of the
elderly to promote healthy aging and a better quality of life. I think so few students ... Show more

The American Nurses Association standards describes the practice of nursing and the details
associated with specialty nursing practice (American Nurses Association, 2017). There is a
relationship between A Profile of Older Americans: 2016 and American Nurses Association
standards and Scope of Practice Gerontological Nursing. A Profile of Older Americans: 2016
shows the changes in demographics of the elderly which helps gerontological nurses tailor specific
nursing interventions to improve rising issues of the elderly. This connection helps provide a better
quality of life for older Americans.
In conclusion, we need more gerontological nurses to take care of the increasing elderly
population. Gerontological nursing is an under served area of practice and having a shortage of
gerontological nurses can effect the care of the elderly. We need more gerontological nurses to help
promote healthy aging and a better quality of life for the population over 65 years old. Persuading
nursing students and increasing interest in this area of nursing may help with the shortage of

  • 3. Slavery And The American Revolution Essay Slavery originated as early as the 1600 s when Britain shipped 3.1 million Africans to British owned colonies in the Caribbean. The new idea of slavery brought controversial ideals and created a historical movement that effected even the peoples of today. Slavery is a form of manipulation that was excused as a conscious way to provide economic growth in Caribbeanand European colonies. It then revolutionized itself into a much bigger issue; many didn t anticipate it could also revolutionize the world. The Haitian Revolution of 1759 evoked a social change that transformed the Caribbean countries, Cuba and Haiti, while slowly expanding the idea of the abolition of slavery . Through traumatic social events, slavery was justified as a way to sustain economics while it simultaneously harmed the lives of the enslaved. During the years of 1700 1830 s the slaves took part in a series of revolts. Seeing as it was unethical to enslave humans, they demanded their rights and wanted to end their cruel forms of labor. • 4. Love in Lolita Some critics read Vladimir Nabokov s Lolita as a story of Humbert s unrequited love for the title character; others consider it a record of the rant ings of a mad pedophile, with, as Humbert himself admits, a fancy prose style. Nabokov s innovative construction, in fact, highlights both of these aspects as it reinforces and helps develop the novels main theme: the relationship between art and experience. By allowing Humbert to narrate the details of his life with Lolita, Nabokov illustrates the difficulties inherent in an attempt to order experience through art. As he tries to project an ideal vision of his relationship with Lolita, Humbert manipulates readers responses to him in order to gain sympathy and to effect a suspension of... My Lohta had a way of raising her bent left knee at the ample and springy start of the service cycle when there would develop and hang in the sun for a second a vital web of balance between toed foot, pristine armpit, burnished arm and far back flung racket, as she smiled up with gleaming teeth at the small globe suspended so high in the zenith of the powerful and graceful cosmos she had created for the express purpose of falling upon it with a clan resounding crack of her golden whip. Humbert illustrates the depths of his feeling for her when he admits that in his assessment of their life together, everything gets mixed up with the exquisite stainless tenderness seeping through the musk and the mud, through the dirt and the death, Oh God, oh God And what is most singular is that she, this Lolita, my Lolita, has individualized the writer s ancient lust, so that above and over everything there is Lolita. The wit and humor Humbert invests in his artistic reconstruction of his past further gain readers sympathy and restrict their efforts to judge him. New Yorker contributor Donald Malcolm observes, an artful modulation of lyricism and jocularity quickly seduces the reader into something very like willing complicity. The memoir contains several examples of Humbert s verbal brilliance and quick wit, but the most inventive occurs at the end during his comic scene with Clare Quilty, presented as Humbert s evil twin. The Pequot fought very hard and stood their ground during the battle. In John Underhill s account, he mentions that he and Captain Mason set fire to the fort. This led to many deaths of the Pequot people as most of them stayed and fought through the Palisadoes. The Pequot were slowly losing the war as their warriors died and their weaponry destroyed in the flames. Those who ran from the fire were killed by the colonists themselves. • 6. Dylan Thomas Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night When a word or a phrase is repeated over and over again, it tends to become stronger in meaning and it sticks in the subconscious. Welsh writer and poet Dylan Thomas was born in 1914 and died in 1953. He wrote numerous works throughout his lifetime and exclusively wrote in the English language. One such work was titled Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night. In the poem, the narrator of an unknown gender urges the reader to not give up on life and to passionately fight to keep living. The main literary device Thomas uses is repetition, and he uses this tool with certain phrases to give emphasis and to make the meaning of his words stronger. Titles are important, and the multiple use of this poem s title emphasizes the meaning behind the poem. For example, in almost every stanza, the phrase do not go gentle into that good night (659) is used. These words are passionately used to plead to the reader not to give up so easily on life. The poet is talking to readers of who have thoughts of hopelessness in life and cannot find meaning to their existence. Symbolically, the use of the word night is the end of the ... Theories Of Knowledge And Psychological Applications Essay Theories of Knowledge and Psychological Applications How individuals are able to obtain knowledge is something that psychologists have studied for a number of years. The ability to store and retrieve knowledge provides individuals with the propensity to form logical thought, express emotions and internalize the world around them. In order for a psychologist to understand the theories of knowledge it is necessary to investigate the aspects of the theories. Many new theorists would enter the field of neural network models, but it was the work of Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland that would simplify the way we would view such models (Arbib, 1995). It was in 1986 that Rumelhart, Hinton, and McClelland developed their network model. It was and still is regarded as one of the most notable network theories. This is true because they structured their theory in a clear, concise, and intelligible manner (Martindale ,1991). Neural network models have evolved during the past sixty years. The initial theories were extremely difficult to comprehend and they were not interchangeable with a broad range of topics. Today s theories are simpler to understand because they are less complex. The theories are capable of encompassing numerous topics. The dual coding approach is one that believes that knowledge is a series of complex associative networks. Within these networks we find imaginal and verbal representations. These verbal and nonverbal representations are means that facilitate the retrieval and storage of knowledge (Paivio, 1986). The individual who was at the fore front of the development of the dual coding theory was Allan Paivio. He did research in the area of verbal and nonverbal representations during the 1960 s. ... For me being a good steward translates to seeking to be like Jesusin every area of my life. Ellen G. White speaks about how to be an example to others. One of the ways that she suggests we do that is by being a reflection of Jesus. We are to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort the suffering and afflicted. He feels a sense of power and overwhelming wickedness. From the quotation, it seems appropriate to conjecture that Dr. Jekyll was enthusiastic about testing out his ?new creation,? as if he were a child and it a toy. Here, is another difference between the two doctors. Dr. Frankenstein(after realizing what he has done) halts all of his experiments and does away with his laboratory anything to get his mind of his terrible creation. He travels around, always watching his back expecting his creature to be there. Dr. Frankenstein has many qualities of the classic Byronic hero; a character that shows romanticized sorrow and pity for himself. ? . . . I am a blasted tree,? he says, ?the bolt has entered my soul; and I felt then that I should survive to exhibit what I shall soon cease to be a miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity, pitiable to others and intolerable to myself? (Shelley 153). In this quotation, he shows romanticized self pity and remorse for what he has created. Victor calls himself a ?miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity.? When the Aztec leader, Montezuma, allowed the conquistadors to enter Tenochtitlan unchallenged, this contained illness became an outbreak and killed hundreds throughout Tenochtitlan. The population and economy that once challenged that of London and Naples was dwindling and crumbling. Through my time there I was fortunate to be able to shadow and assist both the ophthalmologists and optometrists. While taking corneal topographies of patients eyes before they were examined, my interest continued to grow and that interest blossomed into a desire to pursue this as a career when I had the opportunity to witness my first eyesurgery. Though the pterygiectomy was a simple procedure, I was inspired by the fact that it could allow the patient to see better, changing their life. To gain more hands on experience in this area, I began working at the USDA. Through one of the many research projects I worked on, I was able to determine that children are increasingly more prone to adult diseases affecting general optical health at an earlier age. Research indicates that this is largely due to the overall increase in both sodium and sugar intake, in children, and that nutrition is extremely important in overall eye health. Through all of these experiences, the most important thing I have learned is that there is so much more to learn. With continued research the science is constantly growing, with more information uncovered all the time. For instance, I recently attended a presentation by an ophthalmologist, Dr. Rosenfarb, about eye disease and acupuncture. I learned how the eyes related to the qi and all of the organs in our bodies. If our ancestors would be alive, they would think it is a completely different place. Many consumers believe that technology is a bad thing because they see the ugly side of change. Most people if not all simply do not want to accept it or perhaps they notice those consumers who make mistakes and abuse technology. Despite it being an unseen act of technology, society is continuously changing to uphold a set of standards never before held for the sake of the future. We witness generations grasping a general idea of how to use the complex devices starting at a young age. The younger users are able to use their devices with ease and breeze through applications at an outstanding rate. For example, my younger siblings know exactly how to unlock my phone and swipe through pages of applications and know exactly what game to use. I have witnessed them logging in on my computers and perhaps search the web to watch their favorite videos online. This idea of teaching the future generations at a young age to develop technological skills is a great opportunity for them to have for the sake of their jobs. Extending beyond painting, his influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was reflected in the development of moral philosophy. David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured models, he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such as Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible. Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In 1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed. He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the instructors chair, drawing for the duration of the class . When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on the ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired work of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual neoclassical style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on Roman sculpture. Olaudah Equiano s The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself, is the story of the eponymous real life character, Olaudah Equiano, his life, trials, tribulations and journey from slavery at an early age to freedom. For Equiano, it seems that slaveryis almost a metaphysical phenomenon. His entire life is essentially characterized by the different experiences relating slavery, from Africato the Middle Passage to plantation life in the West Indies and United States. Equiano s views on slavery are tough to articulate and truly complex. He details being shocked and hurt to the point where he tries to wash the color of his skin off his face. While travelling the seas with Pascal, Equiano has many more encounters in and with Britain. With more and more exposure to Christianity and European culture, he details that he was no longer frightened and apprehensive towards it, beginning to show confluence of African and European cultures. He was eventually sent to school in Britain, educated and shortly after, baptized. It is worth noting that later in the novel he often relates his new religious standpoint to his enslavement. While becoming a Christian himself, whether or not he holds responsible God, himself, or the hypocritical Christian Europeans for his enslavement is left ambiguous. Ultimately, (and after brief stints of being purchased by other masters) Equiano is sold to Robert King. Educated and under the direction of a master treating him relatively fair, Equiano here observes another facet of slavery. He is further educated and directed along the path of Christianity, which I believe further adds more conflicting emotion, due to it being comparable to his original notion of slavery from his childhood. While working for King on shipping routes, he determines himself to save some money on the side, in order to buy his freedom from King. Interesting to note though, in the novel he explicitly states that he would like to return to Old England, not Africa. While I think this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Selecting An Real Estate Agent Essay Buying Resale Properties If you are looking to buy a private property or HDB flat in Singapore, make sure that you know all the pitfalls before you sign on the dotted line. Here are some of the major things you should look out for to avoid getting into a legal or financial tangle during the transaction. Selecting an Real Estate Agent You need to select an agent to service you. Find one who is familiar with the location and type of property you have in mind. Make sure the agent is from a Listed Housing Agency and also a member of the Institute of Estate Agents (IEA). Discuss your requirements with him and be specific. This will allow him to advise and service you in a professional manner. Ownership Always ensure that the seller is the actual owner of the property. You may wish to request for proof when you are making the purchase. Eligibility to sell Ensure that the seller of the property is eligible to sell the property. For a private property that is mortgaged to a bank, if the seller has lost money on the sale, and is unable to top up the shortfall on his bank loan, the bank may not allow the seller to go through with the transaction. For an HDB flat (except one room flats), there is a minimum occupation period whereby the seller must physically occupy the flat before he would be eligible to sell the flat. For a flat bought directly from the HDB or a resale flat bought with a CPF housing grant, the seller must physically occupy the flat for five years before he can sell ... Agents are even willing to break laws in order to spy on certain Muslim Americans, despite having no evidence incriminating them. Also, data mining demands FBI agents to focus on collecting data and chasing false leads instead of investigating actual cases. This causes the government to lose credibility in their citizens eyes, causing a large portion of the public to withdraw their information from cloud computing companies, which will cost them up to $35 million of revenue loss. The word racism can have different meanings depending on what your own viewpoint is. Racismhas been common for plenty of decades and in fact, is very popular today. In fact, well known speakers such as Beverly Daniel Tatum and Peggy McIntosh provide their own viewpoints on the common topics of raceand racism. First, Beverly D. Tatum s viewpoint on racism is that she does not see it as an act of hate, but rather she sees it as a system of privileges based on one s own race (Sweeney, 33). Tatum makes it clear throughout this excerpt that race determines the privileges you are guaranteed to receive and the fact that those privileged individuals do not notice the power they have compared to others. She connects the idea of white privilege with her definition of racism, and clearly states that racism could also be connected with people of color; however, people of color are not racist because they do not benefit from racism (Sweeney, 37). Tatum gives many examples of White privilege to support her idea that racism is a system of advantage based on race. The Hobbit And Lord Of The Rings Once upon a time, before more mainstream genre defining fantasy works such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, before there even existed an actual fantasy genre at all, Lord Dunsany masterfully crafted the fantastical The King of Elfland s Daughter, an opulent tapestry of a tale of what could happen in a typical fairy tale following the happily ever after. Writing in the early years of the twentieth century, Lord Dunsany was a pioneer in the fantasygenre. Le Guin sees the act of speech in fantasy as the act of creation only the author can create (95), and Lord Dunsany is a masterful creator in this sense. Since the rules of our world cannot be used to understand fantastical realms, it is entirely fitting that our language is not adequate for fantasy, either. To create what Tolkien calls a secondary universe is to make a new world. A world where no voice has ever spoken before; where the act of speech is the act of creation. The only voice that speaks there is the creator s voice. And every word counts (Le Guin 95). Because of his lack of dialogue, this statement is especially true for Dunsany, who Le Guin maintains is the most imitated, and the most inimitable, writer of fantasy (88). Dunsany s descriptions of landscape, and the words his characters inhabit, make up the majority of The King of Elfland s Daughter. We cannot rely on the characters to explain how the world they live in works, nor can we infer this information through character interaction. We must rely almost entirely on the words Dunsany uses in his descriptions to understand his worlds. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to African Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many complex ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s opposition to Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While the opponents of Heart of Darknesssay that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the book can be utilized in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable and correct point that this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not intend to convey racist perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards Imperialism. Although it uses strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans viewed Africans during the time period. This should be read in an academic environment because it is a very well written text and can be used to show the effect of Imperialism during the 19th and 20th century.... The exaggerated racism of Marlow is to show how close minded Imperialists are and how, they themselves are racist. In this perspective, Conrad is not racist, but fighting for the rights of the ... • 39. Essay On Wan Technologies As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become more and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and any other remote resource to access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be accomplished through a variety of WAN technologies that are used in the world today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The traditional college experience includes students that live on campus in a dormitory. Many positive factors lead millennials to stay home: cheaper living expenses, less stress, and the ability to focus on their education. • 43. Analysis Of President Abbas s Adherence To The Power Of Power The essence of this dissertation relies in arguing that one of the main factors of the PA s adherence to security coordination despite its deviation from bilateral agreements in other regards is Abbas s devotion to the power; capacities and benefits, which security coordination provides him with. Using security coordination, Abbas established a monopoly over the use of force to cement his leadership after he took over the reins from the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (Amrov and Tartir, 2014). Moreover, as previously mentioned, Abbas s policy of crackdown on Islamists and leftist in the West Bank is not only about maintaining law and order as the PA claims, but is about keeping himself and the PA in power and preventing a repeat of... • 44. The Indian Boarding Schools The Indian Boarding Schools In the late 1800s, Captain Richard Henry Pratt set out to Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. (A Plea to Citizenize Indians). The goal to erase Indian cultures and replace it with white American culture was sought to be achieved through boarding schools. Pratt was the creator of the first Indian boarding school: Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania. These government funded boarding schools would take children from their homes on reservation, often for them to not see their family again until they are grown(lecture). Pratt s goal was to eliminate the Indian culture and incorporate the Indian people into the more civilized (Marr) American culture. This meant forcing the Indian students to speak only English and to give up all cultural traditions, religions, names and take up Christianity and American sounding names. Students were put into these boarding schools with little or no contact with their families for eight to nine months of the year (Marr). These schools operated with minimal funds, so the education was very insufficient. It was clear from the beginning; the actual goal was not to give quality education for the Native American children but to get rid of the Indian culture. The conditions within these boarding schools were often very poor for students. They were underfunded and created on a basis of racism. There were two types of these schools: boarding schools and the mission schools. The boarding schools were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
