Dr. Greg Forbes
Dr. Greg Forbes
What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is
greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary
powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of
people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a
tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes.
Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so
maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded
the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of
tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex
tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field
manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts
and microbursts. Clearly by his involvement in so many research projects, Forbes had an open and
creative mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forbes has sacrificed the majority of his adult years protecting many people in the path of severe
weather and learning more about the storms that affect them. Greg sacrificed many years of his life co
developing the Fujita scale with Dr. Ted Fujita. Dr. Forbes also sacrifices much of his time at The
Weather Channel, especially over the spring and summer. Since joining The Weather Channel in 1999,
Greg has alerted those who are and will be in the path of the severe thunderstorms to take shelter
while promoting why and how to take shelter when in the path of severe weather. He puts his own life
in the back seat many times, spending significant amounts of time each day putting the people and his
work first. Dr. Forbes puts the people and their safety

Neisseria Meningitidis Essay
Neisseria meningitidis is a fastidious, aerobic, and encapsulated gram negative diplococcus which
infects humans via droplet transmission to and from mucosal surfaces in the nasopharyngeal region.
Only humans can be infected with N. meningitidis and the disease manifests in children under two
years of age and in young adults. N. meningitidis can be found as normal regional flora of the
nasopharynx in some individuals, but when it causes infection leads to meningitis and occasionally
septicaemia. The major symptoms of N. meningitidis infection include a stiff neck, high fever,
photophobia, confusion, cephalgia and emesis. If the patient s condition has worsened causing sepsis,
they can present with a haemorrhagic rash which is indicative of ... Show more content on

This allows N. meningitidis to enter the capillary system and sequentially the CSF and meninges.
Adhesins
When attempting to colonise mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract, N. meningitidis must use
adhesins such as pili and opacity proteins to interact with host cells and adhere to tissue.
Once N. meningitidis has encountered a healthy host it uses its type IV pilus to protrude from the
capsule and bind epithelial cells and erythrocytes within the mucosal surface. The pili also generate
what is known as a twitch motility which allows the bacterium to pass the epithelial layer and invade
the host.
Opacity proteins known as Opa and Opc are expressed on the outer membrane of N. meningitidis.
While the specific role of these opacity proteins in the adhesion of N. meningitidis to host cells is
currently unknown, there has been indication that during inflammation Opa and Opc can aid in the
attachment and invasion of host cells

Air Pollution Is A Serious Problem
Air pollution is a very serious problem throughout the world. Exposure to air pollution is easy and it
can affect your health. Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, or other
harmful materials into Earth s atmosphere, causing diseases, death to humans, and damage to other
living organisms such as animals and food crops, or the natural or built environment (Air Pollution,
2016, June 27). This definition proves that exposure to air pollution can harm the main things that we
need to survive on earth. Depending on the environment an individual live in the quality of air can be
good or bad. People living in the urban area have a higher chance of being exposed to air pollution
than those living in the rural. I think if air pollution keep effecting the things we need on earth than we
would no longer have any resources. In order to keep the resources we need we should decrease the
exposure of air pollution in our environments and make the quality of it better. Use of hybrid cars
might improve the quality of the air. For this reason, tax credits ought to be given to drivers of hybrid
vehicles.
Air pollution from motor vehicles is also a serious matter on our resources because of the exhaust
fumes. Due to this issue, when individuals are exposed to gas that come from their cars, it can affect
their health. In order to reduce these negative effects individuals should keep their cars clean. Being
exposed to particulate matter also can cause asthma

Essay On Mexican War
The Mexican and American War The United States had emerged as a modern capitalist nation, and the
spirit of nationalism in the country was strong and growing (Henderson 71). As tensions grew between
the Unites States and Mexico, there was a thirst for war. The Unites States declared war with Mexico,
because they owned land that Americans desired, resulting in America s fulfillment of achieving their
philosophy of Manifest Destiny . The blood boil of both countries caused a lot of bloodshed. The
dispute lasted for a long two year battle which was for huge amounts of land. The Americans were
victorious and claimed new territories from the conflict. Manifest means obvious movement or
expected movement. In the 1840 s, this philosophy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Texans revolted against their Mexican government to seek for independence. This caused the Texas
annexation and revolution. In the 1830 s, Texas fought for their independence from Mexico. This
sparked the Mexican revolution. There were three main reasons why Texans wanted independence:
Mexico outlawed slavery, high taxes, and the Mexicans wanted everyone to join the Catholic Church.
One of the major players in Texas was Stephen Austin. He had 300 land grants which he gave to the
Texans. After some time, Stephen Austin went all the way to Mexico to present petitions for a greater
self governing government for Texas. Even though Stephen Austin was known as the father of Texas,
the President of Mexico harshly denied his request. Stephen Austin wanted to establish an independent
area where there were no drunkards, no gamblers, no profane swearers, and no one that was lazy
would be allowed. Austin wanted people that were going to work. When Austin was petitioning for the
self governing state, he was arrested for inciting a revolution (Faber 75). His arrest caused many little
rebellions. After his return in 1835, he concluded that the only way he was able to have his self
governing state was to start a war with Mexico. Knowing that the Texans were not obeying Mexico s
laws, the Mexican President sent Antonio López de Santa Anna to fight and stop the revolting Texans.
Santa Anna gained his earliest military experience fighting for the Spanish army

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios
to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest
conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the
mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying
the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem.
The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service.
The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death.
However, other important targets of this poem are suicide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located
within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life
and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is
used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method
used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a
description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image
portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One
of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the
third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train.
The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by
society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of
life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall
begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life
the pilot could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

bargaining power of suppliers is low in this industry and the buyers can compare and choose the lower

Allegories In The Alchemist
Think of some of the most famous pieces of literature. Some pieces that come to mind may be The
Great Gatsby, The Odyssey, and Moby Dick. All of these are stories that feature one or more narrative
forms. The use of different narrative forms in stories can make it go from good to great. The
Alchemist is an example of one of these stories that contain different narrative forms. The Alchemist
is a novel written in 1988 by author Paulo Coelho. Throughout the novel The Alchemist the narrative
forms that can be seen are myths, parables, and allegories. While all of these forms of narration are
being used in different ways, the uses of these different narrative forms in The Alchemist help give the
story more depth and gives the readers of the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allegories are stories, objects, or things that convey meanings other than their literal meanings. The
use of allegories in The Alchemist come in many different forms. They are there to deepen the story
and to make it more interesting for the reader. When looking at allegories in The Alchemist, one of the
most obvious ones is the desert in which they travel. When thinking of deserts, people imagine barren
places that are devoid of life. In The Alchemist, Santiago is taught that this is the exact opposite. The
meaning of the desert in the novel is a place full of life. It is full of animals, plants, and people. This is
significant because before going through the desert, Santiago thinks about the desert as a place
without life, but as he travels through it he begins to understand the soul of the world. It deepens the
character of Santiago, and also gives the reader a new outlook on the world around them. Another
example of an allegory is the books that the englishman carries with him on the way to the oasis.
Books symbolise knowledge, and Santiago tries to gain some of that knowledge by reading the books,
but ends up not understanding them. Santiago later learns that although he could read the books, the
books did not give him the wisdom needed to understand the contents of it. The books are an allegory
representing understanding. While the books contain knowledge they do not give the reader the
wisdom to understand the contents. The use of allegories in The Alchemist is what makes the story
continue, and give the readers of the novel insight on the world around

help from the Texas Department of Insurance so that through mediation the bill can be balanced (New

Canadian dream is combined with individual success, care for others, concern for the country; it is
also to respect others, their background, and their religions. The reason behind my parent s motivation
which lead them to come to Canada was because they wanted to have a good life and so they could

Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver
Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with
societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a hilarious
degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative. Comedians that engage
in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any other means. Satire disarms
the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their criticisms, and is an especially
powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver uses the
satirical news format as a means to address the ridiculousness of beauty pageants as it continues to
objectify women in a climate in which social constructs are shifting towards feminist equality and
persuasion of the audience to agree with the commentary. Considering the context of the Miss
America Pageant reflection by John Oliver in his satirical news program, his goal is to select a
particular topic to deconstruct and discuss the inadequacies with a humoristic flair. The social climate
from the early 20th Century introduction of the Miss America Pageant to current day is vastly
different, and while the pageant evolved over the last 90 plus years, the basic tenets remain. Today s
woman is considered to be independent, strong, intelligent and the physical appearance is but a side
note. However, the pageant maintains the focus on physical appearance, which to many is

Brainbow Essay
Brainbow is a powerful tool used to visualize microscopic biological systems like cells, tissues and
organelles for the purpose of studies. During histogenesis of the nervous system, neurons beget
neurons as well as glia which proliferate, divide, migrate and differentiate. However due to their
microscopic nature, similarity as well as proximity to each other, tracing their lineages, path of
migration and final destination becomes complex and makes their study almost impossible. This
puzzle was resolved after the discovery of color (green fluorescent) expressing genes Aequorea
victoria (Shimomura et al.1962), which is capable of visualizing cells, tissues organelles and their
interactions (pioneered by Chalfie et al. 1994) based on distinctive ... Show more content on

Based on this analogy, multiple fluorescent genes can be genetically engineered to express varying
fluorescent proteins making each closely related neuron as unique as possible. One efficient technique
utilized in making a brainbow mouse is the Cre/lox based recombination technique which yields
pattern of protein expression of different colors. It has alternative means like recombinase mediated
DNA excision based/ inversion based both of which combine to produce about four different
combinations of genes compared to other techniques. In the recombinase mediated DNA excision,
three unique FPs are arranged in order along with two pairs of Cre recombinase recognition site (Lox
site) in between two of the FPs in the transgene. Identical pairs of the two recognition sites can only
be detected by Cre. Prior to recombination, the first color (default) is expressed. After recombination,
one of the FPs is expressed from what has now become a cassette . In the Invertion based brainbow
however, homogeneous pair of recognition sites are placed to face each other. The interspaced DNA is
inverted by Cre. With two FPs aligned anteriorly, the inversion causes one of the FPs to be expressed

A Brief Note On Non Profit Tax Compliance Essay
Non Profit Tax Compliance
Unlike for profit businesses, the focus of a nonprofit is not on gaining profits for shareholders and
owners, but to fulfil a charitable mission for the benefit of the public. Because of this mission focus,
the IRS has recognized these organizations as exempt from the federal income tax that is placed on for
profit businesses and individuals. This recognition is not automatic and is not guaranteed. Nonprofit
organization must still follow the rules and regulations set forth by the IRS and the U.S. Government
regarding tax compliance. If these rules are not followed, a nonprofit organization could lose their tax
exempt status.
A charitable focus does not mean that money is not involved. In fact, nonprofit organizations added an
estimated $905.9 billion to the U.S. economy in 2013, while revenues and expenses totaled over $1.73
trillion (McKeever, 2015). Private giving to nonprofit agencies from foundations, businesses, and
individual equaled $358.38 billion dollars (McKeever, 2015). If a nonprofit organization loses its tax
exempt status, then private donations are no longer tax deductible which decreases the benefit to
contributors (I.R.C. §170(a)(1)). The loss of a tax exempt status can be detrimental to an organization.
Knowledge of the rules and requirements related to tax exempt status is essential for any tax exempt
organization. This paper focuses on the most common form of tax exempt organizations, and how
those organizations can obtain and

An Analysis Of Shakespeare s Henry IV
Centralizing a political theme of this whole saga is the consolidation of the country under the authority
of the monarch, fighting with feudal lords, enemies and the deceitful behaviors displayed.
Shakespeare tried to convey truthfully what is proclaimed to be war, and the personalities of others,
but a significant part of the latter consisted polemical writings exposed the machinations of
reactionary feudal lords and kings to chant. Consequently, this primarily explains the fact of what
Shakespeare idealized in Henry IV. Shakespeare described deviations from historical truth, but they
were not conscious of Shakespeare. An exception is the Shakespeare s desire to reduce the duration, to
satiate his events. Reading Henry IV it has endured the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Advantage And Disadvantage Of English
With the rapidly development of English, English becomes a lingua franca in the world. English
language is spoken by over1.5billion people around the world ( Mufwene, S. , 2010). Non native
speakers are far outnumber of native English speakers which means that many people who come from
different backgrounds and different native language are using English as a common language for
communication( Mufwene, S. , 2010). In other words, English have an important position today; it
affects more and more people use it as a common channel for communication or in the aspect of
sharing academic information. However, although English has many advantages, it is threatening to

likely to become a global citizen who can communicate to the global world because of using English.
People don t have to worry about the language barrier. One example is the global tourism. In the past,
language barrier maybe affected a person whether he or she was planning to travel other countries. If
people want to travel that places, it will means that you have to learn the local language. But now,
English can solve this problem, not only useful for those countries which are used English, but also
the others such as Japan, Korea. It happens on all countries in the world ( N.P. , 2013). In addition,

Personal Reflection Of The Body
The ninth field exercise asked us to focus on the concept of bodies and how we present them to
society. I visited a Walmart and went to the personal care/hygiene section. While mapping the store, I
noticed that although the placement of most of the products made sense, the layout of the store was a
little strange. The first rows of makeup were at a strange angle, but the next couple of rows were
parallel to the rest of the rows in the store. I could not tell why they were angled that way, as it seemed
like it was just wasting space.
The personal care section seemed to into two categories: necessary health items and cosmetic items.
The first section I looked at was the health items. For the most part, they were all located near each
other. I noticed they had eye drops and contact solution next to each other, which are meant to correct
vision and dryness issues in the eyes. They also had foot gel inserts at the end of the aisle, which I
thought was an odd place to put them. These are used to help with foot and arch support. In the
opposite aisle there were baby shampoos and soaps, to aid in cleaning babies. The next aisle had
toothpaste and toothbrushes. A distinguishing characteristic of the toothpastes, were the adjectives that
accompanied them, such as whitening , protective , sensitive , and complete . Toothbrushes and
toothpastes are used to brush your teeth, in order to prevent cavities in your mouth. The deodorant
aisle also had condoms at the end, which seemed

Framingham Heart Study Summary
1.) The Framingham Heart Study was a long term observational Study that succeeded so incredibly
well over the past half century, because it made its participants feel as if they were collectively
dedicated toward an end bigger than themselves (Brink and Levy 23). This entire trust and personal
investment mobilizations effort had been completely intentional and calculated as a purposeful
construction in order to [transform] a community that might resist medical intrusion to one that would
take pride in the Study (Brink and Levy 58). We see, very notably also, that Meador s success in

social reality we are steeped in (that we owe to presence of a collective conscience) reproduces itself
in the epistemological the all too subjective pursuance and cultivation of knowledge regarding our
objective, external reality. Such a ubiquitous pressure, thus, also finds a way to assert itself into a
seemingly objective, knowledge based decision regarding when data is to be omitted or not omitted

oftentimes what is portrayed as objective and uncontestable is the product of the very social structures
and inequalities that the health social movement is

Sociological Imagination In The Military
The sociological imagination is to think of society from a different perspective and as an individual to
take a step back and think how a situation affects the bigger picture. One of the biggest concerns in
today s military is fear of retaliation from supervisors after an individual reports sexual assault. Within
the U.S. Military there have been policies put in place such as the whistleblower protection act, but as
we all know when there comes change individuals refuse to comply. Civilians expect that U.S.
Military members act in a more professional manner due to the higher standards then the general
population.
To start off there is absolutely no protection for members who have been sexually assaulted. Just like
any other civilian, service members have a job to go to and perform. Service members are evaluated
based on their job performance, the last concern they need to be worried about is fear of going to work
and being scrutinized by their peers including their boss. Victims that experience sexual assault are
more likely to be discharged from the military than their assailants. ... Show more content on

It also depends on what your work setting is and who is enforcing the guidelines set in place. That

harassing your wife or husband. It all starts with being a leader and having the courage to step up, and
also those around will start to follow your lead. Don Christensen, president of protect our defenders

An Essay on Man vs. Candide
An Essay on Man vs. Candide During the period of Enlightenment, many philosophers began a new
way of thinking. For philosopher Alexander Pope in An Essay on Man, Pope believed that, Whatever
is, is right (L. 294), in that God is in control and every human being is a part of a greater design of
God. Voltaire later challenged that belief in Candide with the idea that God does not produce order,
but instead, we must produce it ourselves and use reason to give our lives meaning. Pope s position is
more optimistic, while Voltaire s position takes on a pessimistic view in that it does not allow for the
belief in some sort of higher purpose. Drawing from personal experience, Pope s belief that we

413). With that notion, Voltaire is right because there is nothing in this world that is perfect or even
close to perfect, but it is the best possible world we have. Voltaire acknowledges that the world we live
in includes both good and bad and joy and suffering. I can see the accuracy in Voltaire s theory where
man does have the power to make his own decisions in life, but at the same time I feel that our
decisions go into a pre developed plan. I have left several hard decisions that I ve had to make, decide
themselves. Even though I left it up in the air, I eventually partially made a decision, but I also had the
help of a greater force. We might all have several paths laid out for us in the beginning, and depending
on a few drastic choices that we make will determine which of those few paths we end up going down.
Voltaire creates the opportunity that man can make his own difference in the world and be happy by
giving man control over his life and not resting it all on God. Voltaire s Candide and Alexander Pope s
An Essay on Man both make foundational points. Pope s essay is more optimistic while Voltaire s is
more pessimistic. The flaw in Pope s essay is that Pope is too

Charlestown Dbq
How was Charlestown hard to settle ? Did you know that from 1670 to 1783, the city was known as
Charlestown ? At the end of the American Revolution in 1783, the name was shortened to Charleston
as we know today. Different tribes lived in the area before the English arrived. The English choose to
settle there for plantation. The word settle is to adapt a more steady or secure style of life, especially in
a permanent job and home. Charlestown was difficult to settle because of the geography , resources
and disease. According to a map in Doc A , it s not trustworthy because it says In every particular

the resources in Charlestown for the settlers. It was a struggle to settle there because a lot of animals

The Importance Of College Education
So our education really isn t priceless?
As college costs continue to rise, more and more students are discouraged from furthering their
education and reaching their capabilities to the fullest. In today s society, a college education is
essential for a good career. Based off a Edward Jones survey, 83% of Americans say they cannot
afford the expense of a college education. Growing up in public schools, college has always been
slipped into conversations. Especially in high school, our teachers are preparing us for college.
However, they are not preparing us for our future careers or how to obtain a household income, just
simply for us to attend college. We are taught about the importance of college, but never warned about
the cost of tuition and how to pay for it. In my own personal experience I was not taught how to pay
for college but to just go, just figure it out and go. On average, an in state college is $10,000 a year.
The average american family has an income of around $55,000, however, the average family also
spends around $60,000 a year on bills and necessary items. With this being said, are our tuition rates
reasonable?
With costs being so high, some students can t afford it and just don t go, while others burry themselves
with debt and student loans which can lead to stress and the pressure of dropping out. The term
student loans has been tossed around a lot in high school but no one explains the downsides. In 2016
30% of Americans went to college. Of that 30%,

Tagore s Gitanjali: Experiments in Modern Indian Poetry India s struggle for Independence had
acquired a new dimension with the Revolt of 1857 and at around the same time, in 1861, one of India
s most celebrated poets Rabindranath Tagore was born in Bengal. The time in which Tagore is born
and later begins his literary career becomes important in understanding the politics of his writing; the
poets and writers who wrote before him and also how he begins to experiment with the forms, styles

This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again, and fillest it ever with fresh life.
The human body is a temple of the soul, the human soul is temple of God. The human soul has no
significance unless it is inhibited of filled by the Supreme. Birth and death are but the filling and
emptying of the soul by the Supreme, and the individual, insignificant as he may seem to be, in this
way partakes of God s endless life, His immortality. Hence sings Tagore:
This little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales, and hast breathed through it melodies
eternally new.
For Tagore, the lifeless flute comes to life when the Lord of Brindavan plays it forever piping songs
that are forever new. The human soul is not only God s temple, it is also Krishna s flute. Life s
vicissitudes are but new melodies played by the Lord. The poet, therefore, concludes
At the immortal touch of thy hands my little heart loses its limit in joy and gives birth to utterance
ineffable.
Thy infinite gifts come to me only on these very small hands of mine. Ages pass and still thou pourest,

The Cloning Debate On Cloning

The Cloning Debate
According to Mosby s Medical Dictionary, the term cloning is defined as a procedure for producing
multiple copies of genetically identical organisms or cells or of individual genes. Researchers have
conducted several cloning experiments over the years, replicating tissues, organs, and even full
organisms such as Dolly the Sheep in 1997. The history of cloning dates back to the early 1900 s when
Hans Adolf Edward Dreisch studied the results of separating two celled sea urchin embryos ( The
History of Cloning ). The process has since evolved and become a process that is widely talked about
amongst doctors, scientists and the general public. The process of cloning has been predicted to play a
significant role in medical advancements in the near future. The main areas of which cloning could
potentially affect are treatments for various diseases through organ replacement and infertility. As
many topics in science, controversy exists regarding the subject of cloning in addition to its
advantages and disadvantages.
One advantage of cloning is the ability to produce organs and tissues for diseases and medical
conditions that require transplantation. The national waitlist for organ donation consists of more than
one hundred thousand patients and increases by nearly four thousand patients a day ( Organ Donation
and Transplantation ). The amount of donors is much less in comparison to the number of recipients.

  • 2. Dr. Greg Forbes Dr. Greg Forbes What is a hero to you? According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, a hero is someone who is greatly admired for their qualities or actions. A hero does not have to be famous or have extraordinary powers. A new day brings a new hero and as times change, so does the hero. For the majority of people, a hero is a person who makes a difference with an insignificant action, but yet, it has a tremendous impact in their life. That hero in my life, is Dr. Greg Forbes. Greg Forbes was creative and open. Some call meteorology a guessing game, and not a science, so maybe he had to be creative to begin with. Working under the great Dr. Ted Fujita, Forbes expanded the Fujita scale to involve path and width along with Fujita s original wind speed determination of tornadoes. He also expanded the field of tornado research by examining the possibility of multi vortex tornadoes, helping confirm that hook echoes indicate tornadoes along with serving as the field manager of Project NIMROD, determining the effects of wind damage associated with downbursts and microbursts. Clearly by his involvement in so many research projects, Forbes had an open and creative mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Forbes has sacrificed the majority of his adult years protecting many people in the path of severe weather and learning more about the storms that affect them. Greg sacrificed many years of his life co developing the Fujita scale with Dr. Ted Fujita. Dr. Forbes also sacrifices much of his time at The Weather Channel, especially over the spring and summer. Since joining The Weather Channel in 1999, Greg has alerted those who are and will be in the path of the severe thunderstorms to take shelter while promoting why and how to take shelter when in the path of severe weather. He puts his own life in the back seat many times, spending significant amounts of time each day putting the people and his work first. Dr. Forbes puts the people and their safety ... Only humans can be infected with N. meningitidis and the disease manifests in children under two years of age and in young adults. N. meningitidis can be found as normal regional flora of the nasopharynx in some individuals, but when it causes infection leads to meningitis and occasionally septicaemia. The major symptoms of N. meningitidis infection include a stiff neck, high fever, photophobia, confusion, cephalgia and emesis. If the patient s condition has worsened causing sepsis, they can present with a haemorrhagic rash which is indicative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows N. meningitidis to enter the capillary system and sequentially the CSF and meninges. Adhesins When attempting to colonise mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract, N. meningitidis must use adhesins such as pili and opacity proteins to interact with host cells and adhere to tissue. Once N. meningitidis has encountered a healthy host it uses its type IV pilus to protrude from the capsule and bind epithelial cells and erythrocytes within the mucosal surface. The pili also generate what is known as a twitch motility which allows the bacterium to pass the epithelial layer and invade the host. Opacity proteins known as Opa and Opc are expressed on the outer membrane of N. meningitidis. While the specific role of these opacity proteins in the adhesion of N. meningitidis to host cells is currently unknown, there has been indication that during inflammation Opa and Opc can aid in the attachment and invasion of host cells ... • 4. Air Pollution Is A Serious Problem Air pollution is a very serious problem throughout the world. Exposure to air pollution is easy and it can affect your health. Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecules, or other harmful materials into Earth s atmosphere, causing diseases, death to humans, and damage to other living organisms such as animals and food crops, or the natural or built environment (Air Pollution, 2016, June 27). This definition proves that exposure to air pollution can harm the main things that we need to survive on earth. Depending on the environment an individual live in the quality of air can be good or bad. People living in the urban area have a higher chance of being exposed to air pollution than those living in the rural. I think if air pollution keep effecting the things we need on earth than we would no longer have any resources. In order to keep the resources we need we should decrease the exposure of air pollution in our environments and make the quality of it better. Use of hybrid cars might improve the quality of the air. For this reason, tax credits ought to be given to drivers of hybrid vehicles. Air pollution from motor vehicles is also a serious matter on our resources because of the exhaust fumes. Due to this issue, when individuals are exposed to gas that come from their cars, it can affect their health. In order to reduce these negative effects individuals should keep their cars clean. • 6. Essay On Mexican War The Mexican and American War The United States had emerged as a modern capitalist nation, and the spirit of nationalism in the country was strong and growing (Henderson 71). As tensions grew between the Unites States and Mexico, there was a thirst for war. The Unites States declared war with Mexico, because they owned land that Americans desired, resulting in America s fulfillment of achieving their philosophy of Manifest Destiny . The blood boil of both countries caused a lot of bloodshed. The dispute lasted for a long two year battle which was for huge amounts of land. The Americans were victorious and claimed new territories from the conflict. Manifest means obvious movement or expected movement. In the 1840 s, this philosophy ... In the 1830 s, Texas fought for their independence from Mexico. This sparked the Mexican revolution. There were three main reasons why Texans wanted independence: Mexico outlawed slavery, high taxes, and the Mexicans wanted everyone to join the Catholic Church. One of the major players in Texas was Stephen Austin. He had 300 land grants which he gave to the Texans. After some time, Stephen Austin went all the way to Mexico to present petitions for a greater self governing government for Texas. Even though Stephen Austin was known as the father of Texas, the President of Mexico harshly denied his request. Stephen Austin wanted to establish an independent area where there were no drunkards, no gamblers, no profane swearers, and no one that was lazy would be allowed. Austin wanted people that were going to work. When Austin was petitioning for the self governing state, he was arrested for inciting a revolution (Faber 75). His arrest caused many little rebellions. After his return in 1835, he concluded that the only way he was able to have his self governing state was to start a war with Mexico. Knowing that the Texans were not obeying Mexico s laws, the Mexican President sent Antonio López de Santa Anna to fight and stop the revolting Texans. • 7. The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of these are stories that feature one or more narrative forms. The use of different narrative forms in stories can make it go from good to great. The Alchemist is an example of one of these stories that contain different narrative forms. The Alchemist is a novel written in 1988 by author Paulo Coelho. Throughout the novel The Alchemist the narrative forms that can be seen are myths, parables, and allegories. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allegories are stories, objects, or things that convey meanings other than their literal meanings. The use of allegories in The Alchemist come in many different forms. They are there to deepen the story and to make it more interesting for the reader. When looking at allegories in The Alchemist, one of the most obvious ones is the desert in which they travel. When thinking of deserts, people imagine barren places that are devoid of life. In The Alchemist, Santiago is taught that this is the exact opposite. The meaning of the desert in the novel is a place full of life. It is full of animals, plants, and people. This is significant because before going through the desert, Santiago thinks about the desert as a place without life, but as he travels through it he begins to understand the soul of the world. It deepens the character of Santiago, and also gives the reader a new outlook on the world around them. Another example of an allegory is the books that the englishman carries with him on the way to the oasis. Books symbolise knowledge, and Santiago tries to gain some of that knowledge by reading the books, but ends up not understanding them. Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a hilarious degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative. Comedians that engage in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any other means. Satire disarms the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their criticisms, and is an especially powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. • 23. A Brief Note On Non Profit Tax Compliance Essay Non Profit Tax Compliance Unlike for profit businesses, the focus of a nonprofit is not on gaining profits for shareholders and owners, but to fulfil a charitable mission for the benefit of the public. Because of this mission focus, the IRS has recognized these organizations as exempt from the federal income tax that is placed on for profit businesses and individuals. This recognition is not automatic and is not guaranteed. Nonprofit organization must still follow the rules and regulations set forth by the IRS and the U.S. Government regarding tax compliance. If these rules are not followed, a nonprofit organization could lose their tax exempt status. A charitable focus does not mean that money is not involved. In fact, nonprofit organizations added an estimated $905.9 billion to the U.S. economy in 2013, while revenues and expenses totaled over $1.73 trillion (McKeever, 2015). Private giving to nonprofit agencies from foundations, businesses, and individual equaled $358.38 billion dollars (McKeever, 2015). If a nonprofit organization loses its tax exempt status, then private donations are no longer tax deductible which decreases the benefit to contributors (I.R.C. §170(a)(1)). The loss of a tax exempt status can be detrimental to an organization. Knowledge of the rules and requirements related to tax exempt status is essential for any tax exempt organization. The Cloning Debate On Cloning Eva Gaetz Sec 09 Kanchan Hulasare The Cloning Debate According to Mosby s Medical Dictionary, the term cloning is defined as a procedure for producing multiple copies of genetically identical organisms or cells or of individual genes. Researchers have conducted several cloning experiments over the years, replicating tissues, organs, and even full organisms such as Dolly the Sheep in 1997. The history of cloning dates back to the early 1900 s when Hans Adolf Edward Dreisch studied the results of separating two celled sea urchin embryos ( The History of Cloning ). The process of cloning has been predicted to play a significant role in medical advancements in the near future. The main areas of which cloning could potentially affect are treatments for various diseases through organ replacement and infertility. As many topics in science, controversy exists regarding the subject of cloning in addition to its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage of cloning is the ability to produce organs and tissues for diseases and medical conditions that require transplantation. The national waitlist for organ donation consists of more than one hundred thousand patients and increases by nearly four thousand patients a day ( Organ Donation and Transplantation ). The amount of donors is much less in comparison to the number of recipients. As of 2013, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
