The Ebola Virus In Richard Preston s The Hot Zone
Richard Preston s novel The Hot Zone, was based on a true story about the origins and incidents
involving viral hemorrhagic fevers, mainly the Ebola and Marburg viruses. It primarily focuses on the
Ebola virus first documented outbreak during the 1980s. As you read The Hot Zone, you will notice
that it has been divided into four individual segments. The first segment looks into the history of
filoviruses, and how AIDS emerged. The novel begins with Charles Monet, an elderly man who
travels to Kitum Cave in Kenya. After coming in contact with an odd liquid substance, he begins to
experience symptoms of the Marburg Virus (abbreviated as MARV ), which includes; headaches,
backaches, internal organs failing, and excessive bleeding. Monet travels to the Nairobi Hospital and
ends up infecting the young Doctor that treated him. Years after Monet s passing, a young pathologist
named Nancy Jaax is introduced. Her story was told in her point of view as she describes the

effects on humans, hopefully, provide clues to its whereabouts, and develop a cure. Veterinarians who
supervised the monkeys, send tissue samples to Jaax and her colleagues, who determine that if an
illness is a strain of Ebola. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) decide to enter The Monkey House
to destroy the animals to avoid a potentially worldwide epidemic. This entire site was regarded as a
Hot Zone , and hundreds of monkeys were killed. During the said approach, a number of incidents
occurred and delayed the approached. This included a ventilated suit running out of battery power and
a monkey waking up on the operating table then biting a soldier. Fortunately, the facility was sterilized

Perks of Being a Wallflower Context Analysis
The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Context Analysis Paper ! Stephen Chbosky, a 29 year old film
director and screenwriter published his first semi autobiographical novel in 1991, The Perks of Being
a Wallflower. He later directed the movie in 2011 and released it in October 2012. The central theme
of the story revolves around the struggle to understand the terrible things that inevitably happen to
those we love and to ourselves. It unfolds through a series of letters written by the main character,
Charlie, addressed to us, the reader, that detail his painful yet joyous freshman year of high school.
Chbosky frames the film only loosely in this way, preferring showing over telling we never see
Charlie talking to the camera. The novel has been a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The casting was very important to Chbosky, because he wanted not only people that reminded him of
his own life but also generous and real people. He met with Emma Watson once and knew she was a
perfect character for Sam, exploring the wilder side of herself. The main character, cast as Logan
Lerman, is actually really confident in real life. Chbosky wanted to have him audition as Patrick at
first, be Lerman knew he wanted Charlie. Finally, Ezra Miller s charismatic personality put him as
Patrick. ! Stephen Chbosky and Logan Lerman certainly shared a bond. Chbosky put a lot
of faith in Lerman to embody a character that Chbosky sees in himself. He said their relationship
developed quickly and evolved over time. He recalls a photograph of the two of their backs, and what
s amazing is I had no idea this was happening we both have roughly the same posture, and we started
to meld. I don t know if he was getting things from me or if it was just a natural kind of camaraderie,
but it definitely happened (Aquino, 2012). Chbosky even remembers how special it was on the set for
these actors who have never had a proper prom or graduation to experience these things on and off
screen. Chbosky shared one of the most locations of filming with the three cast members the first night
of filming. He took them through the Fort Pitt Tunnel which brought them closer but also made them
understand [his] vision for the movie and how beautiful [he] felt the movie was (Aquino, 2012). I

Rehearsal
Memory is a vital area of study. The continuing research conducted in fields such as: psychology and
neuroscience can bring insight that will someday pilot discoveries in new ways to enhance memory
and find treatments or cures to disorders such as Alzheimer, PTSD or memory loss. Additionally the
study of memory and its effects on learning is equally important to research for some of the very same
reasons.
One of the many key questions in the research of memory and learning is what can be done to improve
it and what triggers encoding into memory to help one learn better. One of the most common methods
to increase memory is rehearsal (Rundus, 1971). Rehearsal involves the repeating of information in
order to process the information and store it into memory to recall later. There are two types of
rehearsal; maintenance and elaborative. Maintenance rehearsal is simply repeating something without
thinking about it. This will add the information into short term or working memory. Elaborative
rehearsal transfers information into long term memory. You have to think about the information and
connect a meaning to it in order for this transfer to happen.
In studying the literature regarding memory and learning there is birth of another method of memory
improvement on the rise. It begins with a 1972 study conducted by Hopkins and Edwards. They set
about to test an assumption from a 1966 study that recall was better for articulated words because the
articulation would

The effective control of cost of funds and operating and administrative expenses has resulted in
continuously growing trend in profit margin. Both the slightly increasing in total assets turnover trend
and highly growing trend in profit margin trend has resulted in continuously improving ROA (Return

owner equity. The bank average collection period has dropped which shows the efficiency of the bank.
All this remark less performance of MCB has earned it many awards like The Best Bank of Pakistan

However, there are some weak areas, which require proper attention. First is the continuous increase
in absolute amount of operating expenses. Secondly, another component of income statement, which
requires proper consideration, is the expenses of bad debts and provisions for nonperforming loans

of investment thought the directly written off bad debt expenses is the highest in this

Central Characters In The Love In John Williams, By John...
1.) The 2 of the central characters in the novel are Ted and Miranda. They have been married for 3
years and relationship began when they met at a party. She introduced herself to him and they got
married a year later. Ted has realized his wife is cheating on him with their building contractor. She is
using him for his wealth. Before their marriage was going great but now Ted is having an affair with a
girl named Lily he met at an airport, who is also a major character of the novel as she is going to help
Ted murder his wife.
2.) One healthy aspect of Miranda and Ted s relationship is that they tend to get along quite well and
never argued. Ted mentions this when is talking to Lily about his relationship with Miranda before he
caught her cheating and he says, Our relationship was perfect, we never argued (Swanson 18). The
second health aspect in their relationship was that they trusted each other at one point. Ted says, Her
answer was such a shock... when she lied about being with Brad (Swanson 46). He trusted her and she
lied straight to his face. The third healthy aspect is that Ted loved Miranda for her and her beauty didn
t matter. Her beauty didn t mean a thing. Yea, she was pretty but I liked her for her. says Brad when he
is thinking of when he first met Miranda (Swanson 89).
3.) One unhealthy aspect of their relationship is that Miranda is cheating on Ted with a man named
Brad Dugget. Ted knows this because while he was outside, [he] saw her kiss him through

Jealousy In Disney s Panopticism
Disney s Panopticon When looking through the eye of Foucault s Panopticism, it becomes clear that
Disney s Cinderella is not only a story of a mistreated stepdaughter who marries her prince but also an
allegory for an attempt to regulate women s actions in society. Foucault described a prison in which a
tower was placed in the middle and from which the guards were capable of viewing all of the cells
concurrently. The prisoners, not knowing whether or not they were being watched, adjusted their
behavior to fit the standards that the guards had set. The reason for this adjustment was to avoid being
punished if a guard happened to have been looking in their direction. Cinderella regulates women s
demeanor in much the same way by teaching girls, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this depiction of Cinderella, every eligible maiden in the kingdom wanted to marry the Prince, so it
is only logical to believe that all of the women without a husband should have wanted to marry the
prince. That is the conclusion that can be drawn from Cinderella. It is this exact conclusion that drives
the women of our society to be constantly looking for their prince from as early as they can remember.
Through the use of colorful advertising and constant advertisements, Disney has created a world
where masses of little girls want to grow up to become princesses. If a girl does not want to look for
her prince, but instead wants to focus on her work or school or something totally different, she is seen
as a social pariah and people will wonder what is wrong with her. An overarching shadow will be
placed over these girls by others because they were all raised on the Cinderella idea that every girl
should be looking to marry their prince. This is because society acts as an overarching panopticon
over women to make sure that they are always looking for their prince instead of focusing on what is
important to them. By creating turning many women into social outcasts, society is able keep many
girls from trying to do anything more than being a

Accounting Practices And The Field Of Accounting
Introduction to the authoritative resources in the field of Accounting
In the era of technological advances, access to information of any subject is abundant. With this vast
array of information to tap into, the credibility of the material presented becomes questionable. But
throughout history, there are sources of material that have been highly regarded. These sources include
Scholarly peer reviewed journals, Trade publications, and information presented by respected

They began to post videos explaining what they wanted to do and that they planned to rival the
Oklahoma bombing that happened a few years before them. Another one of their plans was taking
over a jetliner and crashing it into a building across the country in New York city. Many times on the

was to rig bombs in the High School cafeteria and exploding them when it was at capacity, then as the

Finance is making effective financial decisions in a private or public sector organization. We use the
term corporate to denote organizational decisions and finance to denote that we are concerned with
how to maximize the use of the organization s resources: financial, human, and capital. In the public
sector, the corporate finance function typically resides in the financial management department. In the
private sector, the function typically resides under the Chief Financial Officer s (CFO) oversight. This
responsibility includes: Strategizing acquisitions and mergers Determining appropriate borrowing
structures Conducting cost benefit analyses Growing the business financially Seeking out and
implementing appropriate investments Managing cash flows The bottom line is creating value for the
firm or organization. MBA 591 builds on financial concepts learned in the core finance course and
will examine case studies and business scenarios using an applied approach. The overall goal of this

This paper also argues that a close reading of this extract in relation to the rest of the play will prove
that while it is hard to ascertain if there is irony present, because of the possibility of duplicity of
meanings involved in the characters actions, yet the signs of regressive verbal and dramatic ironies,
which constantly undermine one another, ironically appear to ultimately support the argument that a
constructed sense of time passage as linear gives a false sense of security and meaning for our
existence.
The presence of irony in this extract is dependent upon the audience s recognition that the concept of
time passing in a linear fashion helps to construct a false sense of meaning in one s existence, a point
that, reiterated in the entire play, is also insidiously worked into the simple dialogue of this extract.
This concept of time moving in a linear direction is vital to the idea that events do progress from one
point in time to another, which cannot happen if time looped back on itself or passed in an erratic and
unpredictable fashion.
The meaninglessness of activity and, ironically, of any kind of purpose itself, is shown by the multiple
parodies that are packed into this brief extract. The first is the parody of a search for what appears to

The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic Peace Theory
1. The United States has a high priority on subsidizing farmers. By giving farmers subsidies, the
United States can ensure self sustainability. The Farmers also have a huge lobby that helps protect the
farming industry. The United States was giving cotton farmers subsidies that were seen by many other
countries as giving U.S. cotton farmers an advantage over other cotton farmers internationally. Just in
2011 the United States government gave $1.3 billion in subsidies to cotton farmers. (Cochran 2016) In
2002, Brazil requested a consultation with the United States regarding the prohibited subsidies
provided to U.S. producers of upland cotton. (WTO 2014) Brazil was suing the U.S. for violating
World Trade Organization agreements, giving U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Democratic Peace theory states that countries that are democracies will not go to war with each
other. (Mitchell 2015) It is believed that two democracies would not go to war with each other because
the people within each country would prefer peace. It is also unlikely for two democracies to go to war
because they share some of the same values. It is also believed that democracies tend to have more
wealth and vital infrastructure, standing to lose more if they go to war. (Mitchell 2015) The
Democratic Peace theory as has its weaknesses. War between countries are rare and it is unlikely a
country will go to war with another country even if they are democracies or not. (Mitchell 2015)
Another weakness in the theory is that democracies have not been around for a long time. It is difficult
to say democracies will never go to war with one another based on a short time period. Lastly, a
weakness to the theory is that there have been exceptions to this theory. An example is the Spanish
American war, when Spain was upset about America s involvement in Cuba s independence. (Mitchell
2015) The Democratic Peace Theory has been used by policymakers to spread democracies to other
countries. (Mitchell 2015) This was the basis for the cold war between the Soviet Union and the
United States. The Truman Doctrine set forth that the U.S. would try to establish democracy around
the world and fight the establishment of communism in other countries. (Jackson 2011) I believe that
the United States should use the Democratic Peace theory in public policy making because
democracies tend to have common ground. Many democracies stand to lose more in war. The people
within a democracy would more likely prefer to settle any disputes through diplomacy, instead of a

Analysis of a Horses by Edwin Muir Essay
Analysis of a poem Horses by Edwin Muir It is said that one should forget the past and live in the
present
It is said that one should forget the past and live in the present.
However, Edwin Muir s Horses is a poem of past memories only. The interesting part is that it deals
with many conflicts and issues which are prevalent even today. It is thus a bridge between the past and
present and is expressed in the form of a piece of literature. Muir himself said that in writing about
horses in this poem, he was reflecting his childhood view of his father s plough horses, which must
have seemed huge, powerful and mysterious to a boy of four or five. Some of his poems, including
Horses , have a close equivalent in passages from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the great hulks of these creatures he sees is however another truth. The way these symbols of
power trod, allows the reader to infer another thought. Muir talks about the ritual of trodding hooves
turning the field beneath to brown. This can relate to the nuclear tests taking place, the desire for
power and how it would destroy the earth just as the horses trodding was literally destroying the earth
underneath. The line, Gleamed with a cruel apocalyptic light, has an even greater significance when he
talks as if an apocalyptic war has taken place and the world has come to an end. In Muir s time, this
could obviously refer to the World War or perhaps a civil war and maybe future wars as well. The
manner in which the poet expresses great anguish at the fact that this anger and blind hatred has left
nothing in its wake, throws light on where the world is headed.
The third verse also suggests subjugation of the powerful and privileged over the Underprivileged.
The conquering hooves show the might of the powerful class who dominate the suppressed and force
them into subservience. Muir is depicting the power struggle and hegemony that will always be
prevalent in the world despite opposing views of
Charles Edward Markham. The latter, states in his poem, Man with the
Hoe , after the Silence of centuries , how the oppressed took back their power

Superego Thoughts In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Id is thoughts that are driven by desire (devil on the shoulder), Ego is a state of being, and Superego
thoughts that are driven by your consciousness (angel on the shoulder). These three categories were
created by the psychologist Sigmund Freud. His theory can be applied to William Golding s book
Lord of the Flies. This novel follows the story of schoolboys between the ages of six to twelve who
crash on an island, and fall into savagery. As the boys spend more time on the island, their consciences
start to fade away and they start to return to their primitive and savage ways. The reason why
communities break up is because the id is taking over in each of the boys and starts to dominate their
minds based on primitive instincts. Some may argue that their super egos are still intact to make
decisions based on their consciousness, but at the end the only the id leads.
Seeing that they start forgetting their human instinct that they had when they were with society and
not on a island. When they first crash landed on the island, the boys first human instinct was to find
ways to survive. When they first were trying to find ways to survive Jack says We ll get food, cried
Jack. Hunt. Catch things.... Until they fetch us. (Golding pg 30) Jack s first instinct was to find food to
satisfy their hunger, this also sparked his urge to kill.Though they started by finding ways to survive,
they later start to not give attention to important things(like shelter) but instead they go and hunt.

Satire In Invisible Man
There is a deliberate juxtaposition in the opening pages of Graceland between the garbage ridden
streets of Lagos teeming with naked children and Elvis melancholy, retrospective and, (not without a
deliberate irony on the part of Albani) reading a copy of Ellison s American classic Invisible Man. The
monstrous slum of Lagos is crushing in its poverty; Elvis, despite the squander of his personal
circumstance, somehow doesn t fit the image of his city. Why, in a novel based in its exploration of a
poverty stricken African slum, would the protagonist live entirely outside of the normality of his
setting? Elvis is an aspiring dancer; frequently ambiguous in both his gender and sexuality, the
unprecedentedly moralistic teenager constantly contradicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is here that the power of globalization is most evident; Elvis is molded and guided by intangibilities,
and the city of Lagos is also understood through the ways in which it contrasts America. Despite the
literal geographical separation between Lagos and Nigeria, the colonialist influence of the western
world and the United States are clearly chartered throughout the novel. Admiring himself from many
angles, he thought it was a shame he couldn t wear makeup in public. That s not true, he mentally
corrected himself. He could, like the transvestites that haunted the car parks of hotels favored by rich
locals and visiting whites. But like them, he would be a target of some insult, or worse, physical
beatings, many of which were meted out by the police, who then took turns with their victims in the
back of their vans. It was exasperating that he couldn t appear in public looking as much like the real
Elvis Presley as possible. Struggling with his identity, Elvis desires to wear makeup without fearing
the retaliation of his community. It is in the implanted whiteness and pockets of Americanism where
that freedom is most closely accessible. Yet, the physical reality of the hotels (their literal placement in
Lagos) meant that the governing moral principles of Lagos prevented Elvis from being anything but
an outcast and a victim if he chose to express himself. The American presence in Lagos managed to be
pervasive while simultaneously having no palliative effect on Elvis estrangement within the slum. The
cast of characters employed by Albani, from the elitist white tourists to Redemption to Uncle Joseph
all serve to construct an image of Lagos in relation to America. It wasn t singularly the explicit
references to America or to Elvis s connection to the United States that aided Albani in his describing

Outliers Essay
Outliers Essay
An Outlier is someone who stands out in a group due to their mastery of a certain skill and because of
that they are successful. According to Gladwell not anyone can become successful; it takes the right
circumstances and opportunities. Human s capability seems limitless, and if we put in the time and
hard work we can achieve our goals. We as a society love to think that a person may become
successful and that we all have the same opportunities and chance of succeeding if we just work hard
enough. According to Malcom Gladwell, the author of the book Outlier s these common beliefs are

This seemingly small advantage in most cases tends to give the older kids an advantage over the
younger players because they get more playing time, get placed on better teams, receive better
coaching, and in turn become more skilled hockey players. Obviously those who go on to succeed
must have innate talent, but that is not the primary factor deciding whether they succeed or fail at the
sport. The primary factor in how good they become at hockey is the better opportunities they received
because of their age. When applying Gladwell s Outlier theory The outliers in a particular field
reached their lofty status through a combination of ability, opportunity, and utterly arbitrary advantage
(37) the birth date of the hockey players serves a crucial role and is just an arbitrary advantage. The
coaches should not place the same expectations on the younger players or the younger players should
be put in a younger league more suitable for them so they too can be given a chance to become great
like those born in the earlier months. Since this doesn t happen though those born earlier are much
more likely to become great, which provides a solid backing of Gladwell s Outlier theory. The same
thing is applicable to the academic field. Children who come from a family with more money tend to
be given more opportunities early on such as placement

reaction to my gentle hug was quite surprising. Instead of hugging me back, she strongly pushed me
away, and told me to stop threatening her. After that episode we didn t speak to each other for weeks.
We were both really upset and confused. What went wrong between us? At that time, I didn t know
that Japanese people are reserved, shy, tend to control their feelings, and smile when they are angry.
On the other hand, my friend didn t know that Italians are extremely expressive when it comes to their
emotions, and consider smiling and hugging positive manifestations of feelings. When I smiled and
hugged my friend I made such a preventable mistake! I should have ask her if she needed a hug,
before hugging her. I should have been more aware of her feelings, and less about mine. I should have
known better. At that time my CQ was probably nonexistent! Cultural intelligence, or CQ, is a person

Robert Frost
A Snowy Evening with Robert Frost Robert Frost once said, It begins as a lump in the throat, a sense
of wrong, a homesickness, a loneliness. It is never a thought to begin with. It is at best when it is a
tantalizing vagueness. ( Poetry Foundation n.d.). This poem holds a lot of mystery in its meaning
which has a variety of interpretations. John T. Ogilvie who wrote, From Woods to Stars: A pattern of
Imagery in Robert Frost s Poetry interprets this as a poem about the journey through life. James G.
Hepburn who wrote, Robert Frost and His Critics took a different approach. He believes this poem to
be about the aesthetics and moral action. This poem contains a variety of literary devices that not only

As Hepburn says in his article, Robert Frost and His Critics The mood that the poem induces in the
reader nullifies his acceptance of the intention expressed by the traveler. The sum of the reader s
experience of the poem is different from the meaning of the traveler s experience of the woods.
Presumably the traveler goes home to supper, to his duties, and to the rest of his journey through life;
but these things are not the poem. Frost made some comments on the factors mood plays in a poem, ...
the poet s intention is of course a particular mood that won t be satisfied with anything less than its
own fulfillment. (Hepburn 1962). This poem isn t a recreated experience but meant to be an
experience in itself. This poem has some interesting symbolism in it takes us on a journey through a
man s life. When the narrator first stops, instead of questioning himself, he questions what the horse
thinks, My little horse must think it queer (842). By questioning the horse, he is really questioning his
own reasons, which people often do while they make life decisions or everyday decisions. The horse
is also a symbol of time the horse is questioning his stopping and urges him to move on to prevent the
further loss of time (Anonymous). When the narrator s horse shakes his harness bells, he then
becomes a symbol, as John Ciardi thinks, ..order of life that does not understand why a man stops in
the winter middle of nowhere to watch snow come

Universal Medical Codes
In the health care system, there are a lot of codes that help diagnose, treat, and discharge patients daily.
Codes help nurses
especially make reports faster along with making them easier to read for individuals within the HIS
department. For a universal set of
codes to be nationally accepted in crucial when dealing with different hospitals. Let s say you are an
individual that was out of town, got
injured and then wanted your care while you were out of town to be documented through medical
records. Medical records at the town
you were in uses a list of codes that are not accepted by the CPT manual. So now, when your records
get taken to the hospital nearest
your home, they do not understand what was specifically done because they are not sure what the
codes the hospital out of town used

Why is a universal code manual supposed to be used around the world? Simple, so your care is
properly documented and can be billed to you in the correct manner. Also, another use for medical
codes is to protect yourself from false
documentation. If your documentation is correctly coded according to the CPT manual and everything
else follow correctly, you would be
covered if your documents got tested by someone higher than you or another hospital perhaps. Good
documentation provides a safety
net because it shows exactly what patient care you actually provided. If there is any scrutiny, you are
more protected. (Key Issues
Shaping Clinical Terminology and Classification).
In Radiology, there is not too many codes used within the department. However, when a doctor orders

Contrast The Spanish And English Colonies From 1492 To 1700
In a time when Native Americans occupied present day America, the Age of Exploration began in
Spain, and the Puritans who disagreed with the Church of the England fled to a place where the
Puritans could practice their faith without scrutiny. It is in this context that the Native Americans used
to dominate the New World until the Spanish founded New Spain for Gold, God, and Glory. The
English explorers who settled in the New World after being persecuted in England and to make profit
this caused conflict with the natives eventually leading to the French and Indian War. The Spanish and
English colonies that settled between 1492 and 1700 were significantly different in the way the two
different groups used religion to determine what happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Admittedly, there was a difference in the way the Spanish and English lead to the Native Americans
downfall. The Spanish Friars forcibly convert the indigenous people with the mission system going as
far as to kidnap a Native America to convert him to Catholicism. The English converted the natives
using Praying towns which were completely optional and did not force the Native American to work
for the colonist. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and the conquistadors were more
focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers mainly wanted to save the
indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and doomed. On the other hand,
there was similarity in the way the Spanish and English forced the Native Americans to war after
attacking their religion and taking their land. The way the Spanish used the encomienda system. This
was a system set up by the Spanish king in which he lent out land to conquistadors to make profit by
using anything that was on the land including people. This was under the condition that the
conquistadors protected and converted the indigenous people on their land. The Spanish used this to
justify the need to extract labor and resources from the Native Americans who inhabited the New
World. The English used the way the Spanish treated the natives as a guide on how the

Argumentative Essay About Halloween
Christian s who ever said your Halloween has to be evil?
Most Christians I think it s fair to say cringe at the thought of Halloween? But, who ever said that it
has to be an evil time for them or those who visit there house for candy on that night? With the right
purpose and motive it can actually be a very fun and exciting night! Helping to take it back from those
who think it is just plain evil, at least for ourselves to begin with. Maybe, it s because somehow so few
have been educated on halloween s history. Or the history of witches and witchcraft in our Country
and around the world. Why, is it that so many attach or try to attach witches with Halloween? Witches
have been seen in books and movies as ugly, evil and cruel! They were never suppose to be people
that were role models to our childen. Or ones they wanted to dress like or imitate in any way. On Oct
31st most people will simply ignore the dark side of Halloween. The vast majority of the population
will dress up in costumes, go to parties and eat candy without ever even considering where the holiday
came from or what certain people are doing behind closed doors on that night. The history of
Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic pagan celebration called Samhain (pronounced sah

Psychological Analysis of Dr. Gregory House Essay
Analysis of Gregory House

In the show, House M.D., there is an especially difficult doctor whom people cannot help but love
despite his unpleasant demeanor. This is Doctor Gregory House. He specializes in diagnosing rare
medical anomalies with the help of his team of diagnosticians: Foreman, Chase, and Cameron. House
is somewhat a mystery to his team members and everyone else. He is a cynical and bitter medical
genius who can sometimes come across as an arrogant jerk. Some of this is due to his drug use (he has
acquired an addiction to painkillers) and his leg injury which came about from an incorrect diagnosis.
House also possesses an almost O.C.D. like symptom of having to ... Show more content on

His superego might as well be nonexistent. House displays many of the defense mechanisms as well.
He finds ways to rationalize his drug abuse since he is in pain due to his leg. However, he knows he
has a problem and is just in denial. He refuses to address the problem and chooses to ignore it and go
along seeking to please his Id. Another explanation for why Dr. House is the way he is could be the
Social Cognitive Theory, which states that one s personality is shaped by environmental learning,
cognitive and personal factors, and behaviors. The cognitive factors would be House s beliefs, values,
and expectations. Since House has a pretty bleak outlook on life and a lack of values, this is one
reason for why he is the way he is. So basically, it s just his views on life and since they are pretty
sinister and pessimistic, it shows through in his personality such as the bitterness, bluntness, and
rudeness. Some of this could be from personal factors as well. In one episode we meet Mom and Dad
House. Genetics can influence personality and we find his mother is relatively normal while his father
is a complete jerk. Also, environmental factors such as living with a jerk as a father could be a
probable cause for rudeness and bitterness too. When it comes to Type A and Type B behavior, House
definitely would be more on the B side of things. He tends to be easier going about things and

It Really Is That Simple By Melinda Branson
It really is that simple. Melinda Branson s catch phrase signaled the end of her cooking demonstration

NPs produced by nanotechnology methods have been developed for application in different pesticides
(Nel et al., 2006). Therefore, methods used to manufacture NPs are important criteria. Due to specific
physiochemical properties, NPs may be used as fillers, semiconductors, opacifiers, catalysts, and
microelectronics, and also as cosmetics and drug carriers in pharmacology and pharmaceutics (Nel et
al., 2006). Thereafter, we need to consider risk assessment, establishment of safety manufacture, and
the use of NPs in the marketplace and their potential toxicity (Nel et al., 2006; Medina et al., 2007).
Next, we investigated the underlying mechanism of biogenic Te NRs induced cytotoxicity in the PC
12 cell line. As shown in Figure 2, cell viability was reduced in a concentration dependent manner. By
increasing the concentration of biogenic Te NRs, cytotoxicity can be enhanced in PC 12 cells.
Significant reduction in rat hippocampal astrocytes viability was observed in exposure to 1.95 250 μM
of diphenylditelluride (DPDT) and 0.97 250 μM of TeCl4through MTT assay; lethal concentration
(LC50) for both compounds was estimated at 62.5 μM (Roy and Hardej, 2011). Studies have indicated
that NPs may induce cytotoxicity by disrupting the cell structure and cause dysfunction in the cells by
binding to survival macromolecules (Navarro et al., 2008). It has been reported that these toxicities
depend on particle size, surface properties, and then, on cellular uptake of NPs

Population Control In Society
According to Sigmund Freud humans must repress their base desires and freedoms in order to adapt to
society, thus taking away happiness. This could since a functioning society s main goal is to increase
its population as rapidly as possible, so that more work can be done so that more people can be born
and so on, and it achieves this goal in one main. The main way it does this is by protecting its citizens
from threats, internal and external, which would harm the population causing a decrease in the
potential population. Which end up restricting the population. People must reduce their aggression if
they wish to be efficient in society. Society could not work if large portion of the members of society
were murdering continually. If a large portion of people were murdering continuously then it can be
expected that a good portion of the population would die causing a decrease in the society s
productivity. If a decent portion of the population gets murdered then in the next generation there won
t be more people leading to stagnant productivity. Or If a decent portion of people get killed in the
society then the society fails at its purpose which is to offer protection not only that, bu usually
exchange for the freedom of the people so that people may reproduce. Most people can not help
society if they are busy torturing people this is the case since torturing takes time and effort in order to
properly pull off and for society to be productive it needs people to work which also takes time and
effort which means that most people can t torture and work all while getting appropriate amounts of
sleep and food. And if people were torturing others then a lot of people are not being as productive as
possible thereby reducing the productivity of the population while harming it. Not only that, but then
there are the effects of the torture. If people are torturing people by physical or chemical pain then
there are chances of death, sickness, physical or mental, or debilitating injuries, some of which could
cause sterility, and all of this can lower productivity and go against the main propose of society. Some
Societies make it practically impossible to be a member after being to aggressive. This happens since
people don t

The Phaedrus Dialogue
The Phaedrus dialogue is one of the masterpieces of philosophical and artistic prose of Plato. The
work presents a philosophical debate between Socrates and Phaedrus. Socrates, as expressed by Plato,
refutes the false eloquence and proves that the rhetoric should be based on philosophy. In this
dialogue, Plato also argues the meaning of true love, the way it is connected with the soul, and how
the soul can be incorporated into the frame of art and beauty. Phaedrus covers the most significant
aspects of Plato s philosophical teachings about ideas, the mastery of rhetoric, and the practices of
love and art.
The teachings of Plato assert that the objective world as perceived through the human senses cannot
be considered as true. The sensible things are to constant changes, inevitably fading away, and there is
nothing substantial or real about them. These are only the shadows and the images of the actual things.
Plato regards them as ideas, which are the forms of things that cannot be perceived through sense, but
instead through the human mind. In Phaedrus, this approach finds its representation in the expression
of love, friendship, as well as the notions of truth and soul as the components which are essential for
learning the art of rhetoric. Therefore, through Socrates words, Plato states at the beginning of the
dialogue: I am devoted to learning; landscapes and trees have nothing to teach me only the people in
the city can do that (6). Instead of trying to perceive the

What Is The Value Chain Analysis Of Pepsico
In order to provide an outside perspective, PepsiCo tasked us with creating a recommendation to one
of its current problems: how should it adjust its beverage product portfolio to better align with
changing retailer and consumer tastes and preferences? After much consideration and analysis, we
have decided to approach the problem by focusing on society s shift to more health and
environmentally conscious purchasing habits, which has caused annual decreases in carbonated soft
drink (CSD) sales. To further explore PepsiCo s problem, we conducted PEST, PORTER, VIRO, and
Value Chain analyses. Below are the results from each analysis: Through our PEST analysis, we found
political/legal factors as the most pertinent. This is in slight contrast to our focus on lifestyle and
consumer changes because we are focusing on a subset of social factors and the others sections caused
the category to be devalued in the bigger picture. Overall, we valued tax laws, foreign trade laws, and
attitudes toward foreign companies as the highest because tax laws determine how much revenue may
be converted into net income or if it marginally increases product price. The only factor ranked with
low importance was stability of government. While it is true that a stable government results in a
stable market, PepsiCo is not currently heavily invested in any unstable or contested governments, and
its choice to generally have non politicized practices make it safe to individual political concerns.

How Does Tacitus Describe The Culture Of The German
The Germania written by Tacitus served as an ethnography of Germans that lived in the lands beyond
Roman control. Tacitus goes through every aspect of culture and in some cases compares Germans to
Romans. He describes German culture as a whole in the first half of the reading, then moves on to
discuss each individual tribe and their customs. Tacitus defines race in very broad sense, drawn from
how he depicts Germans in contrast to Romans. We see that geography and culture play a large role,
although they differ slightly from tribe to tribe, many maintain similar customs. Through the
Germania, we see that Tacitus differentiates race on the basis of physical appearance, lifestyle, and
regard for women. One of the more obvious indications of racial difference, is seen through physical
characteristics. Tacitus praises in the fact that their bloodlines are so pure due to the fact they never
intermarried with outsiders, He goes on to say that the lack of immigrants to Germany may be due to
the fact that land there is undesirable to live on, and so immigration to Germany was ostensibly
unheard of. The physical features Tacitus accredits to Germans are: fierce blue eyes, red hair, and large

how the Indian Railways creates value.
Answer 1
Value creation is a term which cannot be defined / quantified specifically and measured accurately or
attributed a particular definition. It has a distinct and broad view and originates from the customers
point of view rather than monetary value which originates from the organizations financials. An
external orientation is important and useful to understand value rather than an inward focus.

The Origin Of The Dominican Republic Essay
To understand the way race has been shaped in the Dominican Republic is to take an in depth look at
the contextual influences that help to mold its nation. Their history began to take shape when Spanish
ships of Columbus arrived in 1492. It was the third landfall met by Columbus which named La
Española, but, was known as the island of Hispaniola. Today it is known as the Dominican Republic.
Columbus s arrival launched the complicated story of race, colonization and globalization for the
people who would inherit the land over the next four hundred years. Within fifty years of Columbus
arrival, hundred, if not thousands of indigenous inhabitants had been killed through brutal forced
labor, new diseases introduced from European and suicide (Guest).
The Spanish began to import African slaves in 1520. This make Hispaniola the first colony anywhere
in the region to import slaves to work the sugar plantations. It was for this reason, Torres Saillant
formulated the perception that the Dominican Republic is cradle of blackness in the Americas. As is
well known in modern times Hispaniola id divided; the France took and governed Haiti the western
third of the island, until they were overthrown by slave rebellion in the Haitian Revolution. The
eastern two third was governed by the Spanish, until Dominican nationalist declared independence
from Spain in 1821. Though Dominicans would revere their Spanish decent they are anti imperialistic.

(2) unforgiveness that follows ruminating about the transgression, by substituting positive emotions

Pro and Cons of Forgiveness
We can gain some benefits from forgiveness. One of the benefits of forgiveness is that it is good for
our heart. This is because when we try to forgive other people, we can train our heart to be more
patience when we are dealing in some issues in our daily life. Besides that, forgiveness also can
always train us to be more forgiven people rather than someone who hold revenge towards others,
which is not good for our heart. It can cause the hatred within our heart. According to Siromi (2012),
forgiveness reflects our heart attitude towards God and the person who sinned.
In this context, we can forgive, because there are two components to forgiveness which is attitudinal
and transactional. Before we approach the person who sinned against us, we must approach God and
battle to have a forgiving and merciful heart. To forgive someone, we really need to be sincere so that
there would not be revenge that particular individual. We have to make sure that our heart is ready to
forgive that person and we really mean it. Thus, we will be very easy and the peaceful finally be with
us. Our heart will be in peace because there is no more hatred and we can go through our life happily.
So, the forgiveness is really good for our heart. It trains us to be more patient in order to deal with

The Final Stage Of Management Design
Control is the final stage of management design, making sure the specific goals and objectives of the
team is met by all those who are placed within the organization to complete specific task. It is at this
stage that all members must perform the work that is within the organizations scope of business.
Controls can be strong and visible, such as are needed in a maximum security prison, or they can be
more relaxed and invisible, such as are needed in a group of volunteers working at the local food
bank. The four steps in the process of control in the Mainstream and Multistream managerial
processes according to Nuebert Dyck 2010 are Establishing Performance Standards, Monitoring
Performance, Evaluating Performance, and Responding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is helpful in identifying needed changes in the input and conversion stage to maintain
quality products Mainstream managers are interested in high quality products at the lowest
productivity cost possible while maintaining good relations and organizational wealth (Nuebert Dyck
2010). In the Multistream approach managers use a value loop which helps to identify key
performance standards. Multistream process standards are used not targets like the Mainstream
manager. The Mulitistream manager uses the information system to help enhance, process, share, and
self monitor the dada. Rather than use a Top down approach the Multisystem manager is going to
expect that other help in these processes rather than have it trickle down hill effect and emphasizes
balancing multiple forms of well being for multiple stakeholders (Nuebert Dyck 2010). Nuebert Dyck
in 2010 describe the Multistream approach to the four step control process as looking at and
establishing standards in the value chains rather than value loops. The goal is to incorporate all
stakeholders goals however much of the time they are able to foresee potential delinks and the
potential un connectivity of those chains (p556). The Mainstream focus on controlling their employee
from top to bottom, the Multistream organizations focus on creating a system that allows the
stakeholders to

Friendship In Freak The Mighty
A best friend is one who you can talk to, who won t judge you, loves you for you, and most of all,
makes you feel like you are worth something Anonymous. In the novel Freak The Mighty, Max and
Kevin demonstrated a very strong friendship; this was caused by their acceptance of who each other
was. Expanding on that, Max and Kevin both made the other feel like they were meaning something in
the world; not just a speck in it. With the information shown, friendship is important as, having a good
friend can help you through rough times. Many people agree that trust is required in a friendship. So,
Freak had lots of trust invested into Max when Tony D. was following them; Freak needed to trust
Max to carry himself through the water. Along with that, Max had to trust Freak to give him valid
directions on where to go in the pond. Max, followed, even though, he was the one running from Tony

This was an adventure because, Freak made Max close his eyes as Freak guided him there. Then,
when they got to the hospital Freak showed Max where he was going to get his new, Robotic Parts.
Adventures were based on medieval times; further, Max and Freak, (mainly Freak) used knight lingo

Role Of An Pr Personal
Public relations is a demanding career that can be rewarding and satisfying. Before its popularity, for
decades, people s attitude toward this profession was viewed as lukewarm, at best. This negative
connotation was due to the lack of knowledge of this up and coming career. The term public relations
is also know by its abbreviation PR. The role of an PR personal is to help establish and matin mutual
lines of communication, understanding, acceptance, and cooperation between an organization (Guth
Marsh, 2012 p.3). Lone Star College Tomball also abbreviated as LSC Tomball is a community

is still apart of the PR department and works diligently with the team. Working as part of the PR team
at LSC Tomball, Mr. Mayfield explains, our biggest job is to write press release to advertise

find it more beneficial if we let the local newspaper journalist write these stories Mr. Mayfield says.
He continues, it keeps us (the school) from blowing it s own horn, metaphorically speaking, on how
great the new programs/classes are but rather someone else talking how great our new programs are.
going more specifically Mayfield states:
Our main focus here as Lone Star College Tomball PR team is to keep a relationship between the
public and the school. When it comes to writing a press release there are certain lens we have to see
through. For the college, is it news worthy? And for the newspaper, is it something my audience are
interested in? Like, holding a forum about something that will have a major impact on the community
is something we would write Mayfield, 2017).
Another thing we are responsible for are charity events that are held by the school.

Chuck Klosterman s Lesson Essay
Life is beautiful and mysterious. Therefore, there are things that seem to happen like what we expect
but it actually results oppositely. The more we expect the more disappointed we will get when the
outcome turns out wrong. That is the lesson I learned from reading the four essays by Chuck
Klosterman: What We Talk About When We Talk About Ralph Sampson, Through a Glass, Blindly,
Passion of the Garth and Ha ha, he said. Ha ha . What We Talk About When We Talk About Ralph
Sampson talks about Ralph Sampson, he is a basketball player. During his career, he dedicated a lot of

People always want more than what they already have. Klosterman writes about different scenarios
where something more is being sought after and ultimately results in failure. This is also considered
greed. Sampson and Anders always want to try hard to compete with each other players to get the
more love from fans and oppositely the neglect is what they received when they retire. Through a
Glass, Blindly the author spent a lot of time spying the neighbor woman. In result, he did not learn
anything from that. Talking about greed, the scenario that would be the best example is Garth Brooks
and his career. Being on the top of his repute, Garth Brooks still tries to be his alter ego Chris Gains;
and falls short of himself. Failure also happens in media; the media tries so desperately to be funny
that they add laugh tracks in comedy shows and only to become annoying. These four stories are
similar; Whether it is an athlete trying to win validation, the guy in the window who is trying to find
common things in someone s life with his life, Garth Brooks desire to be better than he already is, a
sitcom being funny . They are all seeking a purpose in life and showing the interaction between
people. Trying hard does not mean that we will get satisfied outcomes. Klosterman makes valid points
about greed with oneself in constant desire for more. Also, appreciation for what they already have.
Each story is an example; From sports, to media, to

Compare And Contrast Hamilton Vs Thomas Jefferson
Alexander Hamilton vs Thomas Jefferson Did Alexander Hamilton or Thomas Jefferson have a better
plan for America? Both men had different viewpoints concerning the future of the new nation. While
Alexander Hamilton wanted to increase the central government s power, Thomas Jefferson wanted to
decrease the central government s power. These important Founding Fathers of American history
created the first two political parties, the Federalists and Democratic Republicans respectively. A
political party is a group of people with the same ideology about how the government should be run.
Evidently, Thomas Jefferson had the best ideas for America because he believed that the power of any
government should ultimately rest with the people. Jefferson was brought up by a wealthy family, and
he received the best private tutors possible. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since each farmer was his/her own boss, Jefferson believed that this would motivate them to work
hard to create prosperous lives for themselves. In doing so, the nation would flourish as a whole. He
envisioned the country getting wealthy selling land to Western farmers, which would keep taxes low
and farmers happy. Since the United States would produce mass quantities of fresh food, Jefferson
also liked the idea of getting rich by trading with other countries. He believed in strong states rights
because he thought that the government s power in the hands of the upper class few would risk what
was best for the people, as the power could easily be abused to the wealthy people s benefit. In
addition, Jefferson felt that the states should have the power to control local concerns within the state.
Lastly, Jefferson had a very strict interpretation of the Constitution, which directly limited the powers
of the federal government that supported his political

Two Tough Calls Case Study
1.A. How would you describe the HR practices and beliefs of the program manager, the narrator of
this case?
For the most part, I believe the narrator had a good outlook with her HR practices and beliefs. She
understood the company did not always do the right thing, but she wanted to make sure she did the
right thing to make her a better manager. The narrator had the ability to be honest with the people,
which would help to make the department stronger. There is not need to lie to people to make them
happy. If people need additional training or development, then they should be aware of what is
expected and what they need to improve. It is better to be up front with the people, because people that
are lied to believe they are doing better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding this step would have shown the company they did not have a full time position available for
Phil. The company still could have used his expertise in the field, but it would have either been with a
part time position or a contract position. The company must ensure they are bringing people on that
are able to perform the job required. It will not help the company to add people with little or no
experience. This will actually hinder the performance of the groups.
3. A. Who s to blame for the program manager s work difficulties with Terry top management, HR
department, prior managers, or the program manager in this case? Discuss. The blame for the program
manager s work difficulties with Terry are a direct result of the handling of Terry by the previous
program manager. While some people would say the blame should lie on the upper management for
hiring Terry, the previous manager was the one that constantly gave Terry above average grades on
performance reviews. If the previous manager was giving Terry above average grades on performance
reviews due to upper management, then I would say it is both the previous manager and upper
management s fault. The previous manager had an obligation to ensure the performance grades were
in line with the performance of the individual. If the manager did grade accordingly, and the upper
management changed the grading, then it is

How Ancient Greek Culture Has Influenced The Present Day...
Greek Pottery Ceramics has played a substantial role throughout history, so that is why the Greeks
made sure to make a sizable imprint on ceramics through their intuitive approach on clay objects.
Before we can learn about the ancient Greek ceramics we must first learn about ancient Greek itself.
The culture is believed to of had its first evidence of burials in 7250 BCE, and the culture lasted all the
way to 146 BCE. Ancient Greek culture has influenced the present day more than most people will
ever understand, ranging from their form of government all the way to their architecture! In an article
from the Confucius Institute it is stated that, In 510 BC Cleisthenes introduced profound reforms
which made democracy exist as a system of government for the first time in the world. In general
reforms were to diminish the role of aristocracy, eliminate financial differences and mix the society
(Athens University, 1). Greek culture also played an immense role in the science and math world,
ranging from Pythagoras and the pythagorean theorem to Archimedes of Syracuse and his foundations
for hydrostatics. If you follow philosophy then you will know that their are big philosophy names in
greek culture, for example Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. We all know about the vast amount of
knowledge behind Greek architecture (Parthenon, temple of Zeus, Kalimarmanon), so we will talk
about their art; Greek art ranged from sculptures to ceramics, and amazingly their art is still

Sons And Lovers Character Analysis
Discuss Sons and Lovers as the tragedy of class system, social divisions and Industrialization. D.H
Lawrence s Sons and Lovers takes us back to the heart of industrialization the age where people were
more concerned with money, power and class etc. In the first chapter the use of THE BOTTOMS ,
Hell Row and Bestwood signifies different areas where people belonging to different ranks lived. We
come to know that Mrs. Morel is being forced to move into a new residence at The Bottoms and for
her this is a great loss. Bestwood might not have been a great place for her but at least it was a better
place than The Bottom which was now on the edge of its destruction. Mr. Morel and Mrs. Morel are
the perfect example of the tragedy that the class system brings. The first chapter gives us an insight
into Mrs. Morel s class we discover that Mrs. Morel came of a good old burgher family (Lawrence 33)
thus pointing out that Mrs. Morel s ideals and manners were completely different from those of Mr.
Morel. We also get to know that the thing which pleased Mr. Morel most about Mrs. Morel was When
she spoke to him, it was with a southern pronunciation and a purity ... Show more content on

ugly human. He has to work in unsanitary conditions and he often becomes a victim of accidents.
Even Paul ends up becoming pale and weak after a while because he has to work in the factory.
Lawrence through this novel tells us how dangerous industrialization can be and what kind of harmful
affects it can have since Lawrence himself worked in a factory therefore through Paul he might be

The Ebola Virus In Richard Preston s The Hot Zone Richard Preston s novel The Hot Zone, was based on a true story about the origins and incidents involving viral hemorrhagic fevers, mainly the Ebola and Marburg viruses. It primarily focuses on the Ebola virus first documented outbreak during the 1980s. As you read The Hot Zone, you will notice that it has been divided into four individual segments. The first segment looks into the history of filoviruses, and how AIDS emerged. The novel begins with Charles Monet, an elderly man who travels to Kitum Cave in Kenya. After coming in contact with an odd liquid substance, he begins to experience symptoms of the Marburg Virus (abbreviated as MARV ), which includes; headaches, backaches, internal organs failing, and excessive bleeding. Monet travels to the Nairobi Hospital and ends up infecting the young Doctor that treated him. Years after Monet s passing, a young pathologist named Nancy Jaax is introduced. • 3. Perks of Being a Wallflower Context Analysis The Perks of Being a Wallflower: Context Analysis Paper ! Stephen Chbosky, a 29 year old film director and screenwriter published his first semi autobiographical novel in 1991, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. He later directed the movie in 2011 and released it in October 2012. The central theme of the story revolves around the struggle to understand the terrible things that inevitably happen to those we love and to ourselves. It unfolds through a series of letters written by the main character, Charlie, addressed to us, the reader, that detail his painful yet joyous freshman year of high school. Chbosky frames the film only loosely in this way, preferring showing over telling we never see Charlie talking to the camera. The novel has been a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The casting was very important to Chbosky, because he wanted not only people that reminded him of his own life but also generous and real people. He met with Emma Watson once and knew she was a perfect character for Sam, exploring the wilder side of herself. The main character, cast as Logan Lerman, is actually really confident in real life. Chbosky wanted to have him audition as Patrick at first, be Lerman knew he wanted Charlie. Finally, Ezra Miller s charismatic personality put him as Patrick. ! Stephen Chbosky and Logan Lerman certainly shared a bond. Chbosky put a lot of faith in Lerman to embody a character that Chbosky sees in himself. He said their relationship developed quickly and evolved over time. He recalls a photograph of the two of their backs, and what s amazing is I had no idea this was happening we both have roughly the same posture, and we started to meld. I don t know if he was getting things from me or if it was just a natural kind of camaraderie, but it definitely happened (Aquino, 2012). Chbosky even remembers how special it was on the set for these actors who have never had a proper prom or graduation to experience these things on and off screen. Chbosky shared one of the most locations of filming with the three cast members the first night of filming. He took them through the Fort Pitt Tunnel which brought them closer but also made them understand [his] vision for the movie and how beautiful [he] felt the movie was (Aquino, 2012). I think ... • 4. Rehearsal Memory is a vital area of study. The continuing research conducted in fields such as: psychology and neuroscience can bring insight that will someday pilot discoveries in new ways to enhance memory and find treatments or cures to disorders such as Alzheimer, PTSD or memory loss. Additionally the study of memory and its effects on learning is equally important to research for some of the very same reasons. One of the many key questions in the research of memory and learning is what can be done to improve it and what triggers encoding into memory to help one learn better. One of the most common methods to increase memory is rehearsal (Rundus, 1971). Rehearsal involves the repeating of information in order to process the information and store it into memory to recall later. There are two types of rehearsal; maintenance and elaborative. Maintenance rehearsal is simply repeating something without thinking about it. This will add the information into short term or working memory. Elaborative rehearsal transfers information into long term memory. You have to think about the information and connect a meaning to it in order for this transfer to happen. In studying the literature regarding memory and learning there is birth of another method of memory improvement on the rise. It begins with a 1972 study conducted by Hopkins and Edwards. They set about to test an assumption from a 1966 study that recall was better for articulated words because the articulation would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Jealousy In Disney s Panopticism Disney s Panopticon When looking through the eye of Foucault s Panopticism, it becomes clear that Disney s Cinderella is not only a story of a mistreated stepdaughter who marries her prince but also an allegory for an attempt to regulate women s actions in society. Foucault described a prison in which a tower was placed in the middle and from which the guards were capable of viewing all of the cells concurrently. The prisoners, not knowing whether or not they were being watched, adjusted their behavior to fit the standards that the guards had set. The reason for this adjustment was to avoid being punished if a guard happened to have been looking in their direction. Cinderella regulates women s demeanor in much the same way by teaching girls, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this depiction of Cinderella, every eligible maiden in the kingdom wanted to marry the Prince, so it is only logical to believe that all of the women without a husband should have wanted to marry the prince. That is the conclusion that can be drawn from Cinderella. It is this exact conclusion that drives the women of our society to be constantly looking for their prince from as early as they can remember. Through the use of colorful advertising and constant advertisements, Disney has created a world where masses of little girls want to grow up to become princesses. If a girl does not want to look for her prince, but instead wants to focus on her work or school or something totally different, she is seen as a social pariah and people will wonder what is wrong with her. An overarching shadow will be placed over these girls by others because they were all raised on the Cinderella idea that every girl should be looking to marry their prince. This is because society acts as an overarching panopticon over women to make sure that they are always looking for their prince instead of focusing on what is important to them. By creating turning many women into social outcasts, society is able keep many girls from trying to do anything more than being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another one of their plans was taking over a jetliner and crashing it into a building across the country in New York city. Many times on the same website they stated their plans to flee the state and even country. The final plan they decided on was to rig bombs in the High School cafeteria and exploding them when it was at capacity, then as the survivors ran out of the school they would shoot at the mass of frantic bodies, as first responders arrived on the scene they would then set off bombs rigged to cars in the parking lot. Once they settled on this plan they began preparing. In the nearby hills they retreated to begin target practicing and learning how to set off their homemade explosives. This paper also argues that a close reading of this extract in relation to the rest of the play will prove that while it is hard to ascertain if there is irony present, because of the possibility of duplicity of meanings involved in the characters actions, yet the signs of regressive verbal and dramatic ironies, which constantly undermine one another, ironically appear to ultimately support the argument that a constructed sense of time passage as linear gives a false sense of security and meaning for our existence. The presence of irony in this extract is dependent upon the audience s recognition that the concept of time passing in a linear fashion helps to construct a false sense of meaning in one s existence, a point that, reiterated in the entire play, is also insidiously worked into the simple dialogue of this extract. This concept of time moving in a linear direction is vital to the idea that events do progress from one point in time to another, which cannot happen if time looped back on itself or passed in an erratic and unpredictable fashion. The meaninglessness of activity and, ironically, of any kind of purpose itself, is shown by the multiple

By giving farmers subsidies, the United States can ensure self sustainability. The Farmers also have a huge lobby that helps protect the farming industry. The United States was giving cotton farmers subsidies that were seen by many other countries as giving U.S. cotton farmers an advantage over other cotton farmers internationally. Just in 2011 the United States government gave $1.3 billion in subsidies to cotton farmers. (Cochran 2016) In 2002, Brazil requested a consultation with the United States regarding the prohibited subsidies provided to U.S. producers of upland cotton. The Democratic Peace theory states that countries that are democracies will not go to war with each other. (Mitchell 2015) It is believed that two democracies would not go to war with each other because the people within each country would prefer peace. It is also unlikely for two democracies to go to war because they share some of the same values. It is also believed that democracies tend to have more wealth and vital infrastructure, standing to lose more if they go to war. (Mitchell 2015) The Democratic Peace theory as has its weaknesses. War between countries are rare and it is unlikely a country will go to war with another country even if they are democracies or not. (Mitchell 2015) Another weakness in the theory is that democracies have not been around for a long time. It is difficult to say democracies will never go to war with one another based on a short time period. Lastly, a weakness to the theory is that there have been exceptions to this theory. An example is the Spanish American war, when Spain was upset about America s involvement in Cuba s independence. (Mitchell 2015) The Democratic Peace Theory has been used by policymakers to spread democracies to other countries. (Mitchell 2015) This was the basis for the cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States. The Truman Doctrine set forth that the U.S. would try to establish democracy around the world and fight the establishment of communism in other countries. (Jackson 2011) I believe that the United States should use the Democratic Peace theory in public policy making because democracies tend to have common ground. Many democracies stand to lose more in war. The people within a democracy would more likely prefer to settle any disputes through diplomacy, instead of a costly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Analysis of a Horses by Edwin Muir Essay Analysis of a poem Horses by Edwin Muir It is said that one should forget the past and live in the present It is said that one should forget the past and live in the present. However, Edwin Muir s Horses is a poem of past memories only. The interesting part is that it deals with many conflicts and issues which are prevalent even today. It is thus a bridge between the past and present and is expressed in the form of a piece of literature. Muir himself said that in writing about horses in this poem, he was reflecting his childhood view of his father s plough horses, which must have seemed huge, powerful and mysterious to a boy of four or five. Some of his poems, including Horses , have a close equivalent in passages from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under the great hulks of these creatures he sees is however another truth. The way these symbols of power trod, allows the reader to infer another thought. Muir talks about the ritual of trodding hooves turning the field beneath to brown. This can relate to the nuclear tests taking place, the desire for power and how it would destroy the earth just as the horses trodding was literally destroying the earth underneath. The line, Gleamed with a cruel apocalyptic light, has an even greater significance when he talks as if an apocalyptic war has taken place and the world has come to an end. In Muir s time, this could obviously refer to the World War or perhaps a civil war and maybe future wars as well. The manner in which the poet expresses great anguish at the fact that this anger and blind hatred has left nothing in its wake, throws light on where the world is headed. The third verse also suggests subjugation of the powerful and privileged over the Underprivileged. Superego Thoughts In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies Id is thoughts that are driven by desire (devil on the shoulder), Ego is a state of being, and Superego thoughts that are driven by your consciousness (angel on the shoulder). These three categories were created by the psychologist Sigmund Freud. His theory can be applied to William Golding s book Lord of the Flies. This novel follows the story of schoolboys between the ages of six to twelve who crash on an island, and fall into savagery. As the boys spend more time on the island, their consciences start to fade away and they start to return to their primitive and savage ways. The reason why communities break up is because the id is taking over in each of the boys and starts to dominate their minds based on primitive instincts. Some may argue that their super egos are still intact to make decisions based on their consciousness, but at the end the only the id leads. Seeing that they start forgetting their human instinct that they had when they were with society and not on a island. When they first crash landed on the island, the boys first human instinct was to find ways to survive. When they first were trying to find ways to survive Jack says We ll get food, cried Jack. Hunt. Catch things.... Until they fetch us. (Golding pg 30) Jack s first instinct was to find food to satisfy their hunger, this also sparked his urge to kill.Though they started by finding ways to survive, they later start to not give attention to important things(like shelter) but instead they go and hunt. ... Satire In Invisible Man There is a deliberate juxtaposition in the opening pages of Graceland between the garbage ridden streets of Lagos teeming with naked children and Elvis melancholy, retrospective and, (not without a deliberate irony on the part of Albani) reading a copy of Ellison s American classic Invisible Man. The monstrous slum of Lagos is crushing in its poverty; Elvis, despite the squander of his personal circumstance, somehow doesn t fit the image of his city. It is here that the power of globalization is most evident; Elvis is molded and guided by intangibilities, and the city of Lagos is also understood through the ways in which it contrasts America. Despite the literal geographical separation between Lagos and Nigeria, the colonialist influence of the western world and the United States are clearly chartered throughout the novel. Admiring himself from many angles, he thought it was a shame he couldn t wear makeup in public. That s not true, he mentally corrected himself. He could, like the transvestites that haunted the car parks of hotels favored by rich locals and visiting whites. But like them, he would be a target of some insult, or worse, physical beatings, many of which were meted out by the police, who then took turns with their victims in the back of their vans. It was exasperating that he couldn t appear in public looking as much like the real Elvis Presley as possible. Struggling with his identity, Elvis desires to wear makeup without fearing the retaliation of his community. It is in the implanted whiteness and pockets of Americanism where that freedom is most closely accessible. Yet, the physical reality of the hotels (their literal placement in Lagos) meant that the governing moral principles of Lagos prevented Elvis from being anything but an outcast and a victim if he chose to express himself. The American presence in Lagos managed to be pervasive while simultaneously having no palliative effect on Elvis estrangement within the slum. The cast of characters employed by Albani, from the elitist white tourists to Redemption to Uncle Joseph all serve to construct an image of Lagos in relation to America. The primary factor in how good they become at hockey is the better opportunities they received because of their age. When applying Gladwell s Outlier theory The outliers in a particular field reached their lofty status through a combination of ability, opportunity, and utterly arbitrary advantage (37) the birth date of the hockey players serves a crucial role and is just an arbitrary advantage. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and the conquistadors were more focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers mainly wanted to save the indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and doomed. Another explanation for why Dr. House is the way he is could be the Social Cognitive Theory, which states that one s personality is shaped by environmental learning, cognitive and personal factors, and behaviors. Thereafter, we need to consider risk assessment, establishment of safety manufacture, and the use of NPs in the marketplace and their potential toxicity (Nel et al., 2006; Medina et al., 2007). Next, we investigated the underlying mechanism of biogenic Te NRs induced cytotoxicity in the PC 12 cell line. As shown in Figure 2, cell viability was reduced in a concentration dependent manner. By increasing the concentration of biogenic Te NRs, cytotoxicity can be enhanced in PC 12 cells. This could since a functioning society s main goal is to increase its population as rapidly as possible, so that more work can be done so that more people can be born and so on, and it achieves this goal in one main. The main way it does this is by protecting its citizens from threats, internal and external, which would harm the population causing a decrease in the potential population. Which end up restricting the population. People must reduce their aggression if they wish to be efficient in society. Society could not work if large portion of the members of society were murdering continually. If a large portion of people were murdering continuously then it can be expected that a good portion of the population would die causing a decrease in the society s productivity. If a decent portion of the population gets murdered then in the next generation there won t be more people leading to stagnant productivity. Or If a decent portion of people get killed in the society then the society fails at its purpose which is to offer protection not only that, bu usually exchange for the freedom of the people so that people may reproduce. Most people can not help society if they are busy torturing people this is the case since torturing takes time and effort in order to properly pull off and for society to be productive it needs people to work which also takes time and effort which means that most people can t torture and work all while getting appropriate amounts of sleep and food. And if people were torturing others then a lot of people are not being as productive as possible thereby reducing the productivity of the population while harming it. Not only that, but then there are the effects of the torture. If people are torturing people by physical or chemical pain then there are chances of death, sickness, physical or mental, or debilitating injuries, some of which could cause sterility, and all of this can lower productivity and go against the main propose of society. Socrates, as expressed by Plato, refutes the false eloquence and proves that the rhetoric should be based on philosophy. In this dialogue, Plato also argues the meaning of true love, the way it is connected with the soul, and how the soul can be incorporated into the frame of art and beauty. Phaedrus covers the most significant aspects of Plato s philosophical teachings about ideas, the mastery of rhetoric, and the practices of love and art. The teachings of Plato assert that the objective world as perceived through the human senses cannot be considered as true. The sensible things are to constant changes, inevitably fading away, and there is nothing substantial or real about them. These are only the shadows and the images of the actual things. Plato regards them as ideas, which are the forms of things that cannot be perceived through sense, but instead through the human mind. In Phaedrus, this approach finds its representation in the expression of love, friendship, as well as the notions of truth and soul as the components which are essential for learning the art of rhetoric. Therefore, through Socrates words, Plato states at the beginning of the dialogue: I am devoted to learning; landscapes and trees have nothing to teach me only the people in the city can do that (6). The Origin Of The Dominican Republic Essay To understand the way race has been shaped in the Dominican Republic is to take an in depth look at the contextual influences that help to mold its nation. Their history began to take shape when Spanish ships of Columbus arrived in 1492. It was the third landfall met by Columbus which named La Española, but, was known as the island of Hispaniola. Today it is known as the Dominican Republic. It was for this reason, Torres Saillant formulated the perception that the Dominican Republic is cradle of blackness in the Americas. As is well known in modern times Hispaniola id divided; the France took and governed Haiti the western third of the island, until they were overthrown by slave rebellion in the Haitian Revolution. The eastern two third was governed by the Spanish, until Dominican nationalist declared independence from Spain in 1821.
