2. Essay on Some Fact About The Prolific Theories of Bone...
Today, there is an enormous amount of understanding of the anatomy of bone formation than it was
available to Duhamel du Monceau and John Hunter when they made the then prolific theories of
bone growth anatomy. Duhamel proved, in 1742, that the bone is first formed in the periosteum
and grows in superposing layers. Hunter, through his experiments showed that bonegrows in length
by juxtaposing layers and the medullary cavity(Trabecular bone) grows by resorption of inner
layers of bone. He also showed that the ends of the bones show remodeling via cycles of bone
formation and resorption. Duhamel du Monceau used madder dye, an extract of the root of Rubia
tincterium tree, in a staining technique that enabled him to show that bones... Show more content on

Duhamel formulated experiments to study how bone grows, based on the analogy of a possible
similarity between the healing of bone fractures and the repair of broken trees. He wrapped silver
wire loops sub periosteally around the cortex of young pigeons and noticed that the coil came to lie
closer to the bone marrow cavity as growth continued. Duhamel used quite similar mechanical
techniques for determining the circumference of the limb of a tree by wrapping an iron wire
around it. Some years later, after sawing down the tree, he found that the hardened portion of the
limb had not increased in size. Therefore Duhamel was able to observe the periosteal growth of
bones based on the analogy of tree growth.
To study the longitudinal growth of a long bone, Duhamel inserted needles at equal intervals into
the femur of a newly hatched chick. Dissection of the femur of the chick, fifteen days later,
revealed the impressions made by the needles to be separated by various intervals, smallest nearest
the trabecular region and largest nearest the cortical bone because hardening begins in the
trabecular of the bone and gradually proceeds towards the cortical bone. This proved that the
different portions of the bone do not all grow equally but the trabecular bone grow more than the
cortical bone. This phenomenon is now known as longitudinal bone growth.
Today, there is an enormous amount of understanding of the anatomy of bone formation than it was

3. The Notion Of Mortality In The 16th And 17th Century
Scholars explore the notion of melancholy in the 16th century and 17th century by presenting its
causes, symptoms, cures, and origins. Interestingly, they all incorporate and refer to the work of
Robert Burton s The Anatomy of Melancholy to support their argument. Angus Gowland, author of
The Problem of Early Modern Melancholy, derives the symptoms of melancholy from sadness and
fear. Then, Gowland notes how these symptoms are the most prominent features of melancholy. In
other words, it is known that melancholy is mainly linked from sadness and fear. However, he fails
to explain where he drew these conclusions from, and mentions the reader should understand the
breadth of the cultural resonance and recognize the multiple and interrelated psychological
meanings of the term , melancholy. To inform the reader, he introduces how melancholy expanded.
First, he refers to particular forms of behavior and experiences relating to emotion. He indicates that
these forms can explain why women are especially susceptible and are marginally more likely to be
diagnosed of melancholy. As a result, this led increased the attraction of melancholy in the aspect of
moral, spiritual, and medical attention. This is important because this leads to further research on
the moral and spiritual aspects on melancholy and increasing the medical attention. Thus,
physicians and historians can refer to these works and explain the understanding of melancholy for
all. One fault in this claim is how he fails to elaborate or list what particular behaviors and
experiences that women. Gowland simply presents his claim and continues to the next subtopic
without further explanation. To add, the author of Melancholy and the Therapeutic Language of
Moral Philosophy in Seventeenth Century Thought, Jeremy Schmidt agrees with Gowland on his
prominent symptoms of melancholy. However, Schmidt presents his contention differently. He
showcases how melancholic emotions were the primary substance of melancholic dotage; the
ravings of the melancholically mad and their frequent obsession with a single idea were often
driven by an overwhelming feeling of fear and sorrow. Schmidt implies that those with this
melancholic condition were mad and have an

4. Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health
Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that
causes shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite)
These changes in behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs
throughout their daily routines. But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that
can be damaging to relationships, as well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I
chose this disorder as the topic for my paper because a few years back my mother was diagnosed
with the disorder. I have always been curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in
life, with the same manic depressive illness. And if I did end up with this disorder I wonder if I
would pass it onto my children. According to the National Institute of Mental Health there are
four individual types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar Disorder I, Bipolar Disorder II, Cyclothymic
Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified . My mother has Rapid Cycling Bipolar
Disorder and she has been hospitalized quite a few times for psych evaluations. Those who
experience rapid cycling can go between depression and mania as often as a few times a week
(some even cycle within the same day). (An Introduction to Bipolar Disorder). Growing up with a
mother who has this disorder and a stepfather with schizophrenia its very hard to think of good
memories since there was always arguments and fighting. It s a strange

8. Leadership Styles Of The Leadership
Leadership has been around for many years yet, still unable to contain it in a particular definition
everyone agree on. There are numerous effective leadership styles used in the organization to
achieve their goals. Leadership is becoming increasingly recognized as a crucial issue for
organizations facing change in a complex and volatile environment. (Higgs 2009, p. 165) The
leader is the person who can guide and inspire others to do things according to their needs with the
success of the group as a goal. Leadershipmay be considered as the process of influencing the
activities of an organized group in its efforts toward goal setting and goal achievement. (Stogdill
1950, p. 3) If the team led by powerful leader, it is most likely that the team will be able to meet the
goals as well as their purpose and success.
Participative Leadership
The participative leadership is the management style that invited information from member s
decisions. It is a method of leadership that involves all team members in terms of identifying
important goals as well as developing the approaches and processes to achieve the objective.
From this view, this style of leadership allowed leader to work closely with other team members

9. South Asia And Australia Essay
Every country in our world today shares some sort of relationship with another country. Whether it s
peaceful, aggressive, wanted or unwanted, each place shares a link with another. Australia has
countless connections across the world, but one continent we have a major connection with is Asia,
more specifically South Asia. The AsiaAustralia relationship can be separated into cultural and
political links. These cultural links include customs and traditions, religion, literature and art and
food and language. The political connections are history, politics and economy and trade.
CULTRUAL
Australia is one of the most multicultural countries on Earth, meaning people from many different
countries reside there. This can also make it difficult to find what a broad term for Australian
culture is, due to its many influences. But the aboriginal part to Australia s history does have a
specific culture we can identify. On the other hand South Asia s culture can be clearly defined.
South Asia has influenced Australia, and vice versa. They also share similarities and differences
throughout each other s customs, religions, art and food and language.
CUSTOMS
Within South Asia, most of them share similar social behaviours to one another. One of these
customs include wearing modest clothing and covering their heads with scarves. Clothes are
typically draped and colourful. Most people in the younger generation, now dress in more western

10. Malawi Financial Scoping Survey On Micro, Small, And...
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Problem Background
The Malawi financial scoping survey on micro, small, and medium enterprises (2012) shows that
Malawi has close to 760, 000 small business owners generating annual revenue of about
US$2billion, but 60 per cent of whom do not use financial services. The small business owners in
Malawi are relatively young with an average age of 31 years, with 70 per cent of them having
just primary education. The MSME sector creates employment for just over a million people.
The 2012 MSME survey established that 59% of MSMEs were excluded from financial
services, as opposed to 31% that are formally served by some sort of financial system, with the
balance relying on informal services. Only 22% are banked. Over three quarters do not borrow
funds, primarily because they doubt their ability to repay loans. Of those who borrow, informal
credit systems tend to be the primary source of credit. The survey establishes that the smaller the
business in terms of number of employees the less likely that the owner has or uses banking
services to manage the finances of their business. In recognition of the role that SMEs play in the
economy, the Government of Malawi has made the development of SMEs a priority MSME policy
(2007).
Small and medium enterprises play an important role in providing employment, improving people s
livelihood and in the overall economy. It is therefore imperative that the MSMEs explore other

11. Executive Branch Dbq
While journeying to the Indian Territory, around 5,000 Cherokee died on the Trail of Tears. In
1830, the Indian Removal Act was proposed by President Jackson and passed by Congress. This
act authorized the removal of Native Americans who lived east of the Mississippi River, to lands
in the west. This area was U.S land, in what is now Oklahoma. Congress established this, Indian
Territory. During this time, the system of checks and balances of the government did not work.
When Congress passed the Indian Removal Act, it violated the fourth amendment which showed an
abuse of power on the Legislative Branch s part. Also, the Executive Branch abused power when
President Jackson did not respect the ruling of the Supreme Court case in Worcester vs. Georgia,

12. Examples Of Manipulation In Hedda Gabler
Hedda Gabler, written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, represents the power of
manipulation, desire, and societal upbringing. The main character, Hedda, is the daughter of
General Gabler and what makes her such a diverse character is that she portrays how power and
greed can demolish one s humanity. As a female character, Hedda is fascinating to me as a reader
because most plays and other works of art typically hold women as a possession to be protected or
simply use them as a tool of sexual propaganda, yet Hedda is depicted as a womanof great power
and control. She uses her power of manipulation to gain control of those around her not only to
achieve her goals as a character but transition the societal expectations of women. While Hedda...

She is a very impulsive woman and due to her incessant state of boredom, often becomes still
crazy until she fulfills the void within her. Specifically, she states For once, I want to feel that I
control a human destiny (Ibsen, pg. 266). Her ability to manipulate a situation can be contributed
to the fact that Hedda was not raised like most women her age. As the daughter of a famous
General, she was raised learning how to survive, operate weapons, and manipulate situations in her
favor. As the main character, Hedda is exceedingly demanding when it comes to what she desires,
power. While her newly found husband, George Tesman, is attempting to fulfill her physical
desires, he continues to fall short due to their lack of communication and altered identities within
their social construct. Due to this lack of similar desires, Tesman takes his wife on a six month
long honeymoon and goes out of his way to purchase a house in which they cannot afford simply
because Hedda mentioned that she would like to live in it unbeknownst to Tesman that she was
simply wanting to develop the conversation. Hedda is easily jaded and because of this, she lashes

In order to ascertain how significant beliefs and ideologies were in contributing to the abolition of
the slave trade in 1807, and the eventual abolition of slavery in 1833, this assignment will consider
moral, political, economic and religious factors which culminated into these two distinct reforms. It
will explore the influence of Enlightenment; the impact of non conformists; the role of individuals
and resistance from slaves themselves. Additionally, it will look at the attitudes concerning the

In addition, it argues that slavery is not necessary for the success of colonies and that abolition
would not be detrimental to colonies rather benefit it in the long run. This document demonstrates
how ideas about slavery were surfacing in the mid eighteenth century.
Protestant Evangelicalism was powered by enlightened thinking. As DVD 2 highlights, missionaries
such as William Knibb, were influential in promoting Christianity. Slavery obstructed this process.
William Wilberforce, an evangelical member of parliament featured prominently in the DVD, his
work towards the gradual emancipation was significant, however the interview does point out that
the programme omits profound individuals such as Thomas Clarkson, who was a central leader of
the anti slavery movement.(DVD 2)
An anti slavery sentiment had developed and sects emerged from Evangelicalism. Despite
disagreements on certain doctrinal topics, there was a general consensus between the sects that all
men were equal before God, equal in sin and their potential for redemption. This was particularly
significant within the anti slavery movement as it highlighted slavery as problematic and
obstructive towards Christian morals. In 1787, A committee united individuals from different
classes in society, such as tradesmen and upper class evangelicals. This Committee met in London
with the purpose of establishing A Society for effecting the abolition of the slave trade This is
significant as it highlights that

Fast forward to May, the end of my eighth grade year, I m ready to start my three month vacation
on a good foot. I am placed on the payroll with an honest $7.25 wage. Now that I m on the

what this summer could bring me. I even begin a savings account for my college future.
I wake up at 8:30. My shift begins at 9. I am late. I skip breakfast and frantically bike the three
blocks to work in the brisk morning. Mark s truck is here which is weird because I rarely see
him before noon. I walk in the door and I feel like I am in the wrong place. The cluttered store I
felt so comfortable in, wasn t so cluttered. Many computers and accessories were missing. A
corner normally containing monitors were nowhere to be seen. As I look around I now see Mark
outside the window. He is loading up a trailer with multiple large brown cardboard boxes. I glance

15. Shark Adaptations
Members of the class Chondrichthyes, subclass Elasmobranchii, have been around since the
Devonian period millions of years ago. Most notable of this group of organisms is the shark.
Known for its dangerous appearance, sharks have made many adaptations to survive in aquatic
environments. The marine environment can be extremely dangerous and difficult to survive in.
Sharks are faced with many challenges due to this sort of habitat, especially in regards to oxygen.
Oxygen levels in aquatic environments are very low. As sharks need oxygen to survive, they have
many features to help them adapt. Due to a lack of muscle in the mouth and gill area, they must be
constantly moving to keep water moving pass the gill slits, or risk drowning. Externally,... Show

As there is more salt in the ocean than in the shark itself, the physiological structures of a shark
need to prevent the water in the cells from osmotically leaving. One such structure is the rectal
gland, which secretes a fluid containing sodium chloride. It also helps the opisthonephric kidney
regulate the blood s salt concentration. Another important physiological element to regulate salt
concentration are extracellular nitrogen compounds. One of the most important nitrogen
compounds are urea. Produced in the liver with extra amino acids, urea combines with the blood to
raise blood solute concentration until it either matches or exceeds the ocean s salt

16. Rate Equation And Order Of Reactant
Rate equation and order of reactant:
The rate of reaction is defined as how fast the reactant is converted to the product and it is
measured in moldm 3s 1
Rate=(change in concentration(гЂ–moldmгЂ—^( 3)))/(time taken (s)) , the unit of rate = moldm
3s 1
Rate = k [A]x [B]y [C]y
Orders of the reaction must be taken in to account when writing a rate equation. Where A, B and C
are reactant, x, y and z are the orders of the reaction with respect to A, B and C.
In my investigation I will vary the concentration of each reactant and I will measure time taken for
the reaction to turn colourless. I will use rate=1/time formula to calculate the rate of the reaction.
This will enable me to draw rate against concentration graph which I will use to ... Show more

Collision theory:
Reactions only occur when particle of the reactant collide with a certain minimum kinetic energy.
This energy is also known as activation enthalpy this energy must be supplied to the reactant to
enable the bonds to stretch and break and the new bonds to form in the product. Most collisions do
not result in a reaction, only the collision with enough activation enthalpy will react to produce the
product. (1)(2) (10)
Concentration: The collision theory states that for any reaction to take place the two reactant
molecule must collide first. The rate of a reaction depends on the frequency of the collision between
the particles. Increasing the concentration of reactants increases the number of particles available to
react in the same volume of solution. More successful frequent collisions occur in a given time,
with sufficient activation energy to break the chemical bond. Therefore the rate of reaction will
increase. (1)(2)(6)
Surface area: Increasing the surface area of a solid reactant means more particles are exposed to the
other reactant, the number of reaction sites increase therefore it will react more quickly increasing
the reaction time.
Catalyst: A catalyst will increase the rate of reaction by lowering the activation enthalpy without
being chemically unchanged. They do this by providing an alternative pathway, forming an
intermediate compound with the reactant and then it forms the product from

20. New York City Description
We stood hunched over and shivering in a small lobby, our clothes dripping on the tiled floor.
The tiny room could barely fit the both of us. It led into a restaurant, which promised shelter and
hot food; it beckoned us. I wrung out my sleeves and shook my hands to dry them. My mom
offered her phone to me, and I fervently started typing. We were huddled together in a tiny
vestibule, completely soaked, and helplessly lost in New York City. The day had started off
marvelously an early start and meet up with the bus that would be taking us. The ride up was
peaceful, ironically contrasting the day ahead. We barreled down the highway until the traffic
slowed to a halt. Car horns blared as they fought for entry to the city. I gazed out the window...

desperation, we turned left hoping to find some help or indicators of where the tree was. We

untimely rain. Mother Nature kept berating us as we searched for shelter. And now we re caught

bodies aching. Eventually, we constructed a route to the Rockefeller Tree that consisted of three
miles of complex intersections and meandering roads. In desperation, I looked to my mom for

decides to take on the Soviet monster. 1985 was around the time the Cold War began to end, and
this movie was agenda setting at it s finest. The movie shows an American getting killed by the

Mainstream media sets its agenda once again by focusing the public opinion to be focused on
American finally beating the Soviet Union. Rather than allowing the people to form their own
opinion regarding the harsh reality of the cold war, the media put a spin on it to show that America
had truly won the war, even though there was nothing to be gained. The movie created an intense
emotional rollercoaster similar to the tension between the two rivalling countries during the Cold
War for the public. The American people truly believed that winning the Cold War involved some
type of battle in a foreign ground, rather than through negotiations and communication. Though the
war had ended in 1985, there are still issues of trust that both America and Russia

23. The Cornetto Is Wind Instrument Made Out Of Wood
The cornetto is wind instrument made out of wood that has been used throughout Europe for
centuries, from the 1400s to the 1600s. It s also called the cornett, which is not to be confused with
brass instrument called the cornet, an instrument similar to the trumpet. The cornetto is a hybrid
instrument: it is a combination between a woodwind and a brass instrument. It s made out of a long
and slender tube, curved to one side, that had open finger holes. The way the cornett produced
sound was by blowing into a mouthpiece that was shaped like a cup, similar to the trumpets. The
mastery of the instrument gives the player a variety of pitches and tones that can be created.

It was still used in some parts of Europe until the early 1800s.
Most early instruments that date from the renaissance and baroque eras have legacies and their
characteristics are still found in modern instruments. The cornetto does not have any descendant,
and that makes it unique. No mainstream modern instrument combines the cup shaped mouthpiece
with the finger holes of a woodwind instrument. Therefore, studying the cornetto and developing
the skills necessary in order to master the instrument can be extremely difficult.
If ever an instrument belonged to the lower strata of society, the cornett did. They were the poor
white trash among musical instruments. Not only were they cheaply made, but they were noted for
their poverty of musical qualities. Constructed of wood and covered with leather their tone was
colorless, coarse and windy. Anyone with a pocketknife, a pot of glue and a thin skiver of leather
could make one of these instruments... The tone was dull and windy, but for some strange reason it
became extremely popular. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries it became the most popular wind
instrument in Europe.
This passage comes from a book on musical instruments from the 1930s. Schwartz s shocking
description shows the impact that an instrument s popularity has over the general impression people
had about it. The cornetto was once the king of the instrument that was played by expert musicians
that were paid large amounts of

Now in the 1st inning, with 2 outs, he makes a diving stop to get the third out. End of the inning.
He is up to bat in the bottom of the first inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out. Here comes

The next batter hits a fly ball to the right fielder. The runner on third tags and scores. 0 1.

25. The Merchant Of Venice Character Analysis
In The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare examines attractive qualities in a royal suitor
through the casket test designed by Portia s late father. Each suitor s choice represents his
perception of himself, Portia, and marriage, therefore can be anticipated by his words and actions
prior to and during the test. The presence and expression of bravado among the men functions as
the most indicative characteristic of the men s choices, as a man s portrayal of himself can tell a
great deal about his views towards women and relationships. This foreshadowing is accomplished
through their boastful diction, willingness to risk, and reactions to the caskets. As the three caskets
each represent a different viewpoint, the three men also represent three distinct personality types,
thus different expressions of confidence which the reader is able to detect through the suitor s
words and actions as they are systematically written by the author. The prince of Morocco is the
first suitor whose choiceis included in the play. One important factor in his interactions with
Portia is racial prejudice. He immediately feels the need to acknowledge the elephant in the room
with his opening comment Mislike me not for my complexion.... Portia is polite, but by
describing him as fair as any comer I have looked on yet, it is revealed to the audience she is not
enthusiastic about the exotic man, since her earlier suitors were disagreeable in many ways. This

How was Canada West formed?
Originally, there was no Canada West until February, 1841, when the Act of Union was

to investigate the troubles in Lower and Upper Canada (Lower Canada became Canada East, Upper
Canada became Canada West). The Canadas had various uprisings concerning the fact that they

31. Different Phases Of Solar And Magnetic Activity Cycles
CHAPTER 2 Cosmic Ray Modulation during Different Phases of Solar and Magnetic Activity
Cycles INTRODUCTION Cosmic rays are modulated as they traverse into the heliosphere.
Measurements have shown that cosmic ray intensity varies on different time scales. On a longer
time scale, the cosmic ray intensity variations in anti phase with solar activity having ≈ 11
year cyclicity is well known and studied extensively (e.g., see Venkatesan and Badruddin, 1990;
Storini et al., 1995; Usoskin et al., 1998; Mavromichalaki et al., 1998; Kane, 2003; Sabbah and
Rybansky, 2006; Ma et al., 2009; Chaudhary et al., 2011; Kudela, 2012). In addition, the ≈ 22
year modulation cycle in cosmic ray flux due to solar magnetic field polarity reversals is
observed and modeled (e.g., Jokipii and Thomas, 1981; Potgieter and Moraal, 1985; Webber and
Lockwood, 1988; Potgieter, 1995; Cliver and Ling, 2001; Laurenza et al., 2012). However, in
order to understand these phenomena, it is important to understand how cosmic ray transport and
propagation vary with the solar activity and solar magnetic polarity (Heber, 2013). Although
sunspots have been used as a convenient index of solar activity, anti correlated with cosmic ray
intensity, it has been recognized that they are not intrinsically related to the problem of solar
modulation of cosmic rays. However, the diffusion coefficient changes during ≈ 11 year sunspot

34. Jumpa Lahiri s Interpreter Of Maladies
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of short stories written by Jumpa Lahiri. From the
collection of stories, the last story, The third and the final continent was especially appealing to
me. The story portrays an Indian man s journey from Calcutta to London and then to America.
The most important aspect of the story is the narration of his arranged marriage with his wife. I
believe, by this story the author portrays the positive side of arrange marriages. First, it is
important to see the viewpoint of two characters towards marriage. For the narrator, an arrange
marriage meant something that he had to do due to social norms. Specifically, when his brother
arranged a marriage for him, he thought I regarded the proposition with neither objection nor
enthusiasm. It was a duty expected of me, as it was expected of every man. (Page 181). In
contrast, the wife was pressured to get married by her parents because her parents thought that she
would end up alone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Describing the letter he received from his wife, the husband narrates, Addressing me by name
would have assumed an intimacy we had not yet discovered. (Page 185). Due to the lack of
intimacy, the husband must have felt pressured to do a lot of work to make the marriage work.
However, after his wife arrives at the airport, he sees her with saree properly fixed rather than
dragging on the floor. By portraying this the author shows the audience that an arrange marriage
between two complete strangers is not as bad as people imagine. Furthermore, the author shows
that lack of communication between the husband and wife is a common issue for arranged
marriages. A best example for this can be seen when the husband asked the wife to get dressed to
go out, the wife overdressed for the

35. John Komlos Inequality
Inequality Begins in the Womb My Father, the Exception According to John Komlos, inequality
begins in the womb in America. His main argument is that children born into disadvantage are,
by the time they start kindergarten, already at risk of dropping out of school, teen pregnancy,
crime and a lifetime of low wage work (2015). Not only does Komlos argue that the fetus might
be more exposed to toxins and infections in certain cases but the zip codes of birth influences
and shapes the child s faith more than people would assume. However, I would like to provide an
exception to Komlos s argument, and claim that sometimes the zip code and the place where you
are born does not make a difference. I believe that my father is the exception. Komlos

to secure the austerity of her country. Her predecessors of ruler of Russia had for the most part dealt

The Ottoman Empire had a much stronger navy and they were much closer to the front so it
was easier to get troops there as well as fresh supplies. Many though considered the Ottoman
Empires army as better equipped and stronger. For these reasons is why many considered the
Ottomans would be a good choice to use to fight against the Russians. However Catherine the
Great Was extremely confident in her forces and her new military leaders were also confident in
them self s as well. They felt for sure that they would give the Ottoman Empire a good thrashing
and a good thrashing is exactly what they gave them. Despite having what many thought was a
larger tactical advantage over the Russians, the Ottoman Empire was defeated decisively in
battle after battle by Catherine the great and her forces from the onset of the war. The war was
playing out very well for Catherine the Great the combination of Russian winter of 1769 and a
well regulated Russian military was proving to be a terrifying combination for the Ottoman
Empire and made raids from their fearsome Tatar forces ineffective. As the war continued the
Russians continued to prove themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the battle field. There
was also the naval battle of Chesme in which the Russians with a small group of twelve ships
cleverly sank twenty two of the Ottomans naval ships. This would be Russians

39. Their Eyes Were Watching God By Zora Neale Hurston Essay
In Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, as well as in modern times, there are
many struggles surrounding gender, social class, and race. Throughout the entirety of this novel,
Hurston describes every aspect of Janie s life, in an attempt to show how young girls are
transformed into women. Hurston did not describe the physical transformation, but instead tackled
the much more complicated mental transformation. At the beginning of the novel, the reader is
greeted with a seemingly innocent little girl named Janie Crawford. She was stretched on her back
beneath the peartree soaking in the alto chant of the visiting bees, the gold of the sun and the
panting breath of the breeze (Hurston 16) That just screams innocence. This little girl is just like
a normal little girl, she is fanaticizing over the idea of being in love, and finding her prince
charming. While she was growing up, Janie did not have a very good example, or an example at
all, of what true love is. Janie never met her parents, and was raised by her Nanny , a womanwith
very old timer beliefs. Janie s nanny was very strict about these things as well, she wanted Janie
to be better than her peers, and have more material possessions than anybody else. This is a very
selfish way to raise a child up, but Nanny knew no better, she was just doing what she considered
best for Janie. The selfish beliefs that Nanny instilled in Janie were not what made Janie s life
tough, it was Nanny s views on

40. The Negative Consequences Of Technology For Children
Often iPads, tablets, and smartphones are thought of the world s greatest advancement. Who, in
the 1980s, would have thought that they would be able to carry their phones out of their houses
and use a hand held rectangular device in which not only can make calls, but also be operated as
GPS, calculators, games and infinite amounts of different features. Of course, like everything in
the world, exploiting the use will result in negative outcomes. Parents are utilizing technology as
a form of disciplining their kids in which is only leading to isolation. Instead, parents should wait
until children are better prepared to be given such responsibility. Phones, iPads, tablets, iPods,
laptops, computers all facilitate everyday life. Computers become a necessity in a couple of jobs;
keeping files, research, reminders, etc. Multiple, effective applications of such technology can be
set in place, however, that is not what is being done. Parents are giving children such elaborate
devices for absolutely the most unreasonable intentions. Kids merely entertain themselves for far
too long, which transforms into isolation. Unknowingly growing separated from educational value,
friends, and family. For future generations only disaster emerges, but there is still a way that this
can be retained from happening and involvement of parental help is required. As technology
grows, children s ability to learn shrinks. Before toddlers can even say the word mom , parents are
already handing them

reciting a poem about love. Orsino, instead of showing madness as insanity or a mental illness he
shows it as mad with love. Some have made inferences that the images Orsino creates with the
poem is him hallucinating. Orsino in scene 1 act 1 recites, If music be the food of love, play on;

Columbus made four different voyages to what the world now knows as America, he wanted to find
a water route to China because there were many goods that the Europeans wanted, and Columbus
colonized and expanded the territory of Europe.
Columbus contribution to the world is one that will affect the world for years and years.
Columbus grew up in a medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious corruption and
intolerance, a time of widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a continent deeply
in need of a rebirth (Heat Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was really in need of a
make over. The way people acted, their decisions, and their religion were not acceptable to any
standard. That time period was very boring and depressing and it was difficult to be happy. There
were so many wars that it was destroying the world. Columbus crossing is the determining, the
unique, event leading up to the greatest discovery in history (Taviani 90). Without Columbus
