Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the
force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn
almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the
Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous
actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the
instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire
saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed
divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not
only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their
omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin
to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t
change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a
non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show

The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts.
The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did
many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was
just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way,
he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore,
the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not

Edward Field Icarus
In Icarus by Edward Field, the narrator, through a tough turn of events has come to the conclusion that
he is not all he thinks he is. In the poem, Field makes an allusion to Greek mythology of the story of
Icarus and Daedalus, attempting to fly. Icarus, through his failures, sees that he is just as ordinary as
everybody else. Icarus is hit with a difficult realization that he is just as ordinary as any other citizen.
As an analysis of the poem itself, Daedalus and Icarus build wings for Icarus to fly in an attempt to
escape from prison and ,Daedalus reminds Icarus before his flight not to fly too close to the sun.
However, anxious to begin his adventure, Icarus dismisses the warning and soared near to the sun,,
resulting with his wings falling off and him falling to his death in the sea. He is thought to be dead, but
feathers near the sea prove otherwise. Icarus thinks of himself so highly, amazing almost before ...

After being proved he is not unique, he goes to live a normal life like everybody else. Yet he is
miserable; in fact, he says in line 30, And wishes he had drowned . He is so ashamed of what he has
failed to do and how he is now known as normal like all the rest of his people. In addition, line 25
says, Fails every time and hates himself for trying . All Icarus wanted to do was be special, unlike his
fellow people. However, because of a simple mistake of not listening to Daedalus about flying into the
sun, he despises himself. He thinks of himself as a failure that he wishes to die to now have to cope
with the pain anymore. Because of this, I am sorrowful for Icarus because all he wanted to do was
prove that he was special and unique. Overall, Icarus and Daedalus wanted to devise a system for
Icarus to escape prison, and it resulted in him wishing he was dead. Because of this, I myself was
distraught over this, that a character wished to die rather than be told he is the typical Greek

Should Religious Leaders Be Political Leaders
A leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal. The types of
leaders vary but in this case, we will be dealing with the religious and political leaders. A religious
leader is one who is recognized by a religious body as having some authority within that body while a
political leader is a person actively engaged in politics especially a full time professional member of a
deliberate assembly. A political leader can also be a person who is experienced or skilled in the art or
science of politics, government or government administration.
In this era, the need to have ethical leaders in politics is wanting. The number of vices is arising at a
very alarming rate. Regardless most people insist that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Great Influence Of Manual Work
1 INTRODUCTION The importance of the sense of touch can significantly be seen in jobs that are
often done manually. Workers such as hairdressers, bricklayers, carpenters, doctors, plumbers,
archaeologists and butchers all rely on the sense of touch to perform their jobs well. These professions
make high use of the kinesthetic and tactile abilities to perceive how their work is being done by using
the perception of texture, characteristics or properties of the material. The great influence of manual
work is quite noticeable in the day to day, and state of the art technology is being incorporated as a
result. Nowadays, many machines have taken the place of people to do processes and increase
production, which makes the sense of touch lose some of its dominance in daily work [1]. Haptics was
introduced in the twentieth century in the field of experimental psychology. Its main objective was the
understanding and manipulation of the sense of touch. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to
assist in the understanding of contact between human and machine. For example, advanced studies
showed that the tactile qualities of environmental structures are much more complex than visual.
Robotic systems meant an important step to unravel the puzzles on the sense of touch, such as
teleoperation and telepresence. These two were the main precursors for the revolution in the study of
haptics [2]. A new bridge between man and computer is being created from the improvement of
haptics

The World s Total Fertility Rate
What to Expect When No One is Expecting Reflective Analysis As our global population count
continues to exponentially climb, many people are under the impression the world is overpopulated. A
lot of society wonders how we will be able to sustain such a large population. An overpopulated planet
could cause or enhance problems such as natural resource depletion, global climate change, and
starvation. The majority of people believe overpopulation is our world s most crucial problem,
including me. Or at least I did before I read What to Expect When No One is Expecting. This book
definitely made me think twice. What to Expect When No One is Expecting, by Jonathan Last, argues
how overpopulation will not be a challenge for future generations. In fact, the book shares how
married couples are not having enough babies. Statistically, in the last forty years, the world s total
fertility rate (TFR) has decreased from 6.0 to 2.52. Meaning, the average woman is having 4.48 less
children in her lifetime. At first glance, this statistic seems like a good thing, but in reality it is
expected to have a devastating effect. What to Expect When No One is Expecting convinced me the
world doesn t have an overpopulation problem by explaining how economics is a major cause of the
lowered fertility rates, and consequently, because there are less babies, the economy will take the
biggest hit. Today, in America, the TFR stands at 1.93 and continues to fall. However, the average

Essay On The Klu Klux Klan
The Klu Klux Klan committed many terrible acts during reconstruction. They murdered and tortured
many people of color and any whites who allied with them. I believe that the K.K.K. was able to
commit these acts without punishment for many reasons. One reason is the amount of violence during
the reconstruction period. Another reason is that the government was in a weakened state. Lastly they
could commit these acts by using justifications for their actions. The reconstruction time period was
full of violence, making it much easier for the K.K.K to get away with their actions. The civil war had
just ended and America was in place of chaos when the Klu Klux Klan rose up. The violence was

The government being in a state of reconstruction and recovery after Lincoln s death made them
unable to focus on the Klan s actions. The Klan also induced fear from the government by terrorizing
and murdering any southern republicans. An example is when they mercilessly beat a man by the
name of Abram Colby, just to get him to stop being a radical republican. Some of the members of the
KKK were very powerful men in the towns they resided, for example doctors, lawyers, etc. These
were trusted people that easily brought their family and friends into the Klan. The government did not
know which people were involved in the KKK and it would have taken a lot of valuable recourses that
they did not have after the war, to find out. The governments weakened state made it much easier for
the Klan to get away with their violent and unjust

Myrtle Wilson as the Wasteland Figure in the Great Gatsby
30 November 2007 Myrtle and Fitzgerald s Wasteland Myrtle Wilson is Fitzgerald s vessel for
illustrating the modern wasteland. His conception of the wasteland as an unavoidable, vulgar part of
the 1920s society is parallel to his characterization of Myrtle as an unavoidable, vulgar character that
refuses to be ignored. He uses her to point out what he sees as the faults of modern society. Myrtle is
materialistic, superficial, and stuck living in the physical wasteland referred to as the valley of ashes.
Fitzgerald uses her to portray the social wasteland, particulaly the growing materialism and
superficiality of modern society. He makes a huge statement about the repression of the impoverished
by the upper class in the modern wasteland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fitzgerald is showing the shallowness, absurdity, and stupidity of the new money American consumer,
whom he contrasts to old money Tom Buchanan, who is not duped by the puppy vendor like ignorant
Myrtle. Fitzgerald also uses Myrtle to show the lack of compassion and irresponsibility of new money
Americans through Myrtle and the puppy. The puppy is referred to as a purchase (28), which Myrtle
briefly pays attention to but quickly forgets amongst the smoking and drinking, leaving the puppy
with blind eyes through the smoke, and from time to time groaning faintly (37), one of Fitzgerald s
most haunting and vivid images in the text. She haughtily talks about imaginary hired help that is
supposed to take care of her puppy, which is Fitzgerald s criticism of new money parenting and
irresponsibility in modern society. Her self centeredness catches up to her when George discovers the
expensive puppy leash before her death. Next, Fitzgerald utilizes Myrtle s superficiality to exhibit
another facet of the wasteland in modern society. Despite being a member of the lower class, Myrtle
becomes haughty and snobby when she is in the city. Her personality changes when she changes her
clothes to an elaborate afternoon dress of cream colored chiffon her laughter, her gestures, her
assertions became more violently affected moment by moment (30 31). She comes across as an over

The 14th Amendment And The Citizenship Clause

Final Project
14th Amendment and the Citizenship Clause
Before the 14th Amendment was enacted, each State had the right to determine the citizenship of
children born within its borders; anyone who became a citizen of any State was automatically a citizen
of the United States. Its Citizenship Clause provides a broad definition which held that blacks could
not be citizens of the United States. The 14th amendment is defined as an amendment to the U.S.
Constitution, ratified in 1868, defining national citizenship and forbidding the states to restrict the
basic rights of citizens or other persons. In the 14th amendment you will find the Citizenship Clause.

Therefore, I would like to see the government put more into the law. Better definition would be a good
start, from reading about the clause in class and reading how easy the Supreme Court or the president

The Training Of A Neural Networks
In order to have a better understanding of the mechanism used in the prediction process, we need to
know what are the stopping conditions, as this process involves a finite number of iterations known a
priori. It has been previously proved one of the problems that occur during the training of a neural
networks is overfitting towards the input data, which generates low quality predictions [56]. In order
to reduce this tendency, the early stopping criteria has been formulated. This involves dividing the
input set in three subsets [57]: training set, used to estimte the weights; testing set, used to assess the
prediction sample and validation set, which is an accuracy indicator of the prediction sample, although
it is not used during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Application using neural networks for the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) prediction This is an
empirical example which has the role of highlighting the differences between a neural network and a
linear regression model. Lamy Robert estimated a linear regression model to predict the growth of real
GDP in Canada [59]. His model explains 82% of the GDP variation in the period 1978 1998. The
coefficient obtained are statistically significant so, he the model can be used to predict the values of
the GDP for different periods. His model contains six independent variables, which are: R_(t 1) is the
quarterly growth of the Canadian Financial Index at t 1; F_t is the employment growth rate at time t;
F_(t 1) is the employment growth rate at t 1; B_t is the consumer confidence index; d_(t 9) is the first
difference of the long term real interest rate at time t 9 (9 month before time t); d_(t 3) is the first
difference of the government budget balance as a share of GDP, at time t 3 (3 months before time t).
Four dummy variables have been included in the model to control four periods (quarter 1 in 1980,
quarter 1 in 1981, quarter 4 in 1986 and quarter 3 in 1991). The linear regression model was estimated
based on 62 observations and is given by: 〖GDP〗_t= 1.695+0.075R_(t 1)+0.3F_t+0.25F_(t

Summary Of Amusing Ourselves To Death Postman
Humanity has far surpassed anything that was seen as impossible. However, as society progressed did
we get distracted on the way? Did we seem to lose track of the important things that mattered in our
lives? In the mid 1980s Neil Postman wrote a book called Amusing Ourselves to Death which talks
about how technology and media has reshaped our culture and he makes predictions on how it will
shape our future. The purpose of this paper is to update Postman s perspective to the present.
Throughout the last chapter of the book Postman talks about how technology has distracted us, and
how it has changed our social lives. This paper will provide information on how Postman s
perspective examples connect to society today, and how many of us are influenced by it without even
noticing it.

Postman says Television as I have implied earlier, serves us most usefully when presenting junk
entertainment; ... news, politics, science, education, commerce, religion and turns them into
entertainment packages. (Postman 159) This election year people are making fun of the candidates
running for president. Many of these people don t even seem concerned because television has turned
politics into entertainment.
Asbeek Brusse author of Educational Storylines in Entertainment Television says Although
embedding a health product into an entertainment program to covertly influence the public may add to
the program s intended prosocial effects and may be socially desirable for some target groups, other
consumers might find this tactic offensive or morally unacceptable. (Educational Storylines 398)

The Characters Of The Solar Eclipse
The Twisted Eclipse By: Thomas Fox, Amelya Cook, Autumn Kelly, Ansley Hopper, Evan Dean
Exposition: The warm summer breeze brushed eagerly at Jimmy and Johnny as they left their house.
The solar eclipse was today, but they had already seen one, and they didn t expect much. They would
go to the park with Samantha, get some ice cream, and walk around. That was their daily routine. The
truth was, the twin brothers both had a crush on Samantha, but they were both scared to say something
about it. As they walked, their wavy blonde hair whisked to and from, but it didn t matter. Their
golden bronze skin gleamed in the magnificent sunlight. No one could tell them apart, except
Samantha. Johnny had shiny hazel eyes that glowed in the moonlight, and Jimmy had deep blue eyes.
Johnny finished texting Samantha and told Jimmy that she would meet them in the downtown area of
their hometown, Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They went to their usual meeting place under the bridge but
away from the water. When they saw Samantha, both their jaws dropped to the ground. She looked
stunning! Her purple sundress blended to perfection with her cream colored skin, her eyes shined like
diamonds, and her dirty blonde hair had the perfect amount of curls in it. They sat and talked, neither
twin could stop looking at her beautiful hair. What they didn t know, however, was that their lives
would take a twisted turn in a matter of hours. After they had finished talking, they went and got their
ice cream.

(0.6g) of calomel the miracle drug of the day, mercury chloride. Antommarchi protested, thinking it
would kill him as he hadn t eaten in 6 days, but was outnumbered. By 11 12 pm came a black
evacuation, after which Napoleon drank more orgeat (Antommarchi 150). On May 4th, Napoleon
constantly drank orgeat, continued to evacuate substances, but was no longer conscious of bowel

Napoleon s periodical illnesses were chiefly digestive and were around as far back as 1816 (Johnson

hepatitis, including severe pain on his right (McLynn 648). Hepatitis was endemic in St.

Tattoos Can Harm Perceptions Analysis
Tattoos might look cool but they can cause some difficulties later on in life. People automatically
make assumptions about someone covered in body art. Not to mention, many employers do not want
their customers to get the wrong idea about their company. Overall because body ink is not widely
accepted people aiming to get one should really think about it.
Tattoos can change how someone sees you no matter how cool you think they look. In the article
Tattoos Can Harm Perceptions: A Study and Suggestions , by Annette Resenhoeft states participants
rated her in more negative terms than when she was described as not having a tattoo . What she s
talking about is a study where participants were given a description of someone with and without a
tattoo. They concluded that people with tattoos get judged more negatively than those without. In
Tattoo Psychology: Art or Self Destruction? Modern Day Social Branding by Reef Karmin says
Everyone had a reaction. And once she left the room, we all talked about it. There were different

Leading Cause Of Negativity In Society In Arthur Miller s...
Rumors are among the many dilemmas afflicting the human condition. They eat away at society like a
parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice or decay. Despite the fact
that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading cause of
negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in the colonial
town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self confidence of victims,
and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors.
Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically change from rumors whether they are true
or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to conclude that the
rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In The Crucible, a character named Parris illustrates this
by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven months out of their house,
and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service (Miller 1.1.26). In addition to their
assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of Abigail. No matter how much gossip
gets into the people s heads who live in Salem, they would never choose to talk to the person, just
about them (Decter). Jumping to conclusions causes people to judge others unfairly and without merit,
causing physical and emotional damage to anyone affected by the untruth of the rumor. This is an
identical struggle that

Robert Pierce, Commonly Referred To As Bob, Was Born In
Robert Pierce, commonly referred to as Bob, was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1914. In his youth, his
family moved to Southern California, where he would stay through college. Pierce went to Pasadena
Nazarene College to prepare for ministry. In the mid 1930s, Pierce worked as a traveling evangelist in
California. Later, he settled in Los Angeles and got connected with the Youth for Christ movement. He
became a full time traveling evangelist for Youth for Christ in 1947. This position allowed him the
opportunity to go to Asia to evangelize to them American military serving there.
In 1947, Pierce left for China. During this trip, he met a teacher named Tena Hoelkedoer. Tena

In 1970, Pierce founded another ministry, Samaritan s Purse. The purpose of Samaritan s Purse is to
meet emergency needs in crisis areas through existing evangelical mission agencies and national
churches. In 1973, Pierce met Franklin Graham. At this time, Graham was a young student with a
heart for missions. Graham reached out to Pierce and began to desire to hear all of his mission stories.
Pierce shared his experience with Graham and became like a mentor to him. Graham was inspired,
and in 1975, Pierce and Graham went on a tour to see the world s neediest places ( About Us ). It was
on this trip that Graham s heart was exposed and called to meeting the needs of the people in these
locations. This conviction was similar to the one that Pierce experienced on his trip to Asia and for this
reason he would eventually go into the same type of work that he was doing with Pierce.
Robert Pierce died in 1978 of leukemia. Only a year after his death, Franklin Graham took over and
became the President and Chairman of the Board of Samaritan s Purse. Both World Vision and
Samaritan s Purse are still active ministries today. The story of Robert Pierce shows that one person s
conviction can manifest itself in powerful ways. Robert Pierce was not only a great evangelist, but he
was a profound leader who understood the importance of connecting and building relationships with
those around him. Pierce shows an excellent example of networking with organizations and

Computer Surveillance At The Workplace Essay
An Assessment of the Impact of Computer Surveillance at the Workplace
Abstract
Computer surveillance refers to the use of computers to track the activity of individuals at the
workplace. It is a common practice especially in industries that have a large number of employees
whom they cannot monitor in person. The research will examine computer monitoring as one of the
methods which the management uses to monitor employee activity at the workplace. The researcher
will examine the advantages of computer monitoring at the workplace in detail in relation to the legal
realm, public perception and criticism. Firms store most of their data in the computer database. In fact,
many companies rely on computer networks to communicate with its employees, stakeholders and
clients.
It has been proved that computers help a business ease its activities such as record keeping,
monitoring employees and word processing among others. However, the use of computers in the work
place breeds concerns such as security threats and privacy issues. Computer systems are not only
prone to hackers but also other security issues that may compromise the company s activities and
social integrity. The research will probe into some of the advantages and disadvantages of computer
surveillance.

The Problem Of Gender Inequality
Gender inequality is a serious problem in our community. Since childhood I saw my mom work long
hours in order to bring food to our table. Unfortunately for me, I never got to see my dad since he left
my mom before I was born. I grew up in Monticello, New York, a place known for its poverty and
violence. Monticello featured woman working in grocery stores and men seen selling and abusing
drugs on the streets. Whenever an expensive car would drive by, men would stare and express verbal
signs of hatred towards the owner. Since this was the lifestyle I grew up around, I had to make a
choice whether to stay here, sell drugs or go to college and pursue a healthier life. An important factor
that contributed to my decision, was a recent encounter I had with gender expectations. I understood
why our perception, state of mind, was a key factor that determined gender inequality, how it
determined who gets hired, who contributes most to his or her work and why this was such a problem.
At age 15, I decided to apply for a job in my local Mc Donald s. I had waited almost a month for this
job and although no past experience was required, I still had a great deal of fast food understanding on
my resume. After my interview was over, I was confident that I would be hired, even the manager
assured me since I was the most intelligent applicant out of all applicants, I would be given more
priority. To my surprise another person had applied for the same position, was hired by the manager

Teaching Gifted and Talented Students
Modifying Regular Classroom Curriculum for Gifted and Talented Students
Many educators have become well versed in modifying the regular classroom curriculum to meet the
needs of students with disabilities. Educators are not as experienced, however, in meeting the
instructional needs of high ability students. In a growing number of states, revisions in regulations
pertaining to gifted and talented students are requiring that high ability students, previously served in
part time pull out programs, must also receive appropriate instruction within the context of their
regular classrooms. For example, in Kentucky, high ability students can no longer be viewed as
sufficiently served by a once monthly or once weekly program. These students ... Show more content

Alternate assignments for high ability students can either be projects related to the modified area of
study that extend the curriculum, or they can be independent projects that are chosen based on
students individual interests. Winebrenner (1992) described a strategy in which students use written
independent study contracts to research topics of interest to become resident experts. The students and
teacher decide upon a description and the criteria for evaluating each project. A deadline is
determined, and by that date, each student must share his or her project with the entire class. Before
choosing their projects, students are also given time to browse various areas of interest. After
completing compacted work, students are allowed to look through research materials to explore
various topics. A deadline for choosing a topic for independent projects is also given to the students to
limit their browsing time.
Scheduling Modifications
Cooperative learning through traditional heterogeneous groups is often counterproductive for high
ability students. When the learning task involves a great deal of drill and practice, these students often
end up doing more teaching than learning. When placed in homogeneous cooperative learning groups,
however, gifted students can derive significant learning benefits. This does not mean that high ability

The verdict is clear a man covered in tattoos and piercings isn t the criminal, the fact that that was our
first assumption is. Now we run into a problem as old as time itself how do you lock up an idea? You
can t. In regards to this problem, scientists would suggest putting different groups of people together
in order to create cultural exposure. Sure, this might work, but to quote Dale Carnegie, an American
author, A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. Changing a person s views by
force will accomplish nothing. There is no perfect, simple solution to this problem. It starts with us,
individually. I know it seems overused and cliché to say we can change the world one mind at a time.
We hear that everyday; I think it s lost its meaning to us. The fact of the matter is, this isn t about
changing the world all of a sudden. All it takes is to change one person. Because one person is all it

Leonid Frridman s Essay America Needs Its Nerds
In the passage, America Needs Its Nerds, by Leonid Fridman he develops his argument by using the
three pillars of literature: pathos, ethos and logos.
Firstly, in lines 20 23, 28 pathos was used to develop the author s argument about children who prefers
learning or creating things versus children who play sports. He used this as an example to appeal to his
readers emotions because these children who preferred invention over sports are known as social
outcasts and are ostracized for being intelligent or wanting to show off their talent. The author was
clearly showing his emotion in line 28 Enough is enough to get his readers to understand the feeling
by putting yourself in that child s position.
Second, ethos was used to try and convince

Why We Fought The Civil War
The Civil War continues to fascinate the American public some 150 years after the great conflict
ended. It was a struggle that directly affected almost every American living during those turbulent
years. Visit any small southern town s local cemeteries and you will most likely find graves decorated
with confederate flags in honor of those who served the Confederacy. National battlefields and parks
set aside to preserve lands so many fought and died on can be found in every state that engaged in the
great struggle. How so many young Americans found themselves caught up in the violent divide
which gripped the country is the question that seems to consume the United States even today. There

Analysis Of Coming Of Age By Anne Moody
At an early age many children are oblivious to issues in society like race relations, and they are easily
influenced by their parents. The book Coming of Age by Anne Moody, takes place during the civil
rights era in the United States. All of the white children stop playing with Anne after an incident in at
the movie theater. These kids were influenced by their parents who didn t want them interacting with
African Americans. Anne Moody s learns about the significance of race in American social life as well
as the differences between the lives of blacks and whites through her experiences at home, school and
work. These experiences help prepare Anne to join the civil rights movement. At home, Anne
experienced firsthand the poverty many African Americans faced, she experienced discrimination and
intimidation in the work employer Mrs. Burke and at the diner by white customers, and she also dealt
with segregated schooling. Through her life at home Anne Moody experienced poverty and
understood the differences between the lives of blacks and whites. Anne spent a large majority of her
child in extreme poverty, having to work after school to help provide for her family her mother was a
maid for white women, but her income was not enough to buy food and clothes for Anne and her
sister. Food in the book was a key distinction in status of whites and blacks. On most days they would
only eat bread and beans and on a good day they thrived off of milk, peanut butter or table scraps from
the white families they worked for. White families didn t know how to cook good food or prepare food
hygienically. Moody realizes this while working for Miss Ola. Moody states, After eating the food
Miss Ola I could see how Mama had to do the cooking because white women didn t know how
(Moody 37). Anne follows up with a detailed description of mucus dripping out of Miss Ola s nose
right into the soup she is about to feed them. Whites compared blacks to animals. Anne s mother used
to buy milk from the white lady on the hill until Anne discovered the lady would leave the milk out
and let her cats drink out of it and then sell that same milk to the African Americans in the community
for twenty five cents. Housing was another aspect of life

  • 2. Allusions In The Crucible You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way, he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not ... • 3. Edward Field Icarus In Icarus by Edward Field, the narrator, through a tough turn of events has come to the conclusion that he is not all he thinks he is. In the poem, Field makes an allusion to Greek mythology of the story of Icarus and Daedalus, attempting to fly. Icarus, through his failures, sees that he is just as ordinary as everybody else. Icarus is hit with a difficult realization that he is just as ordinary as any other citizen. As an analysis of the poem itself, Daedalus and Icarus build wings for Icarus to fly in an attempt to escape from prison and ,Daedalus reminds Icarus before his flight not to fly too close to the sun. However, anxious to begin his adventure, Icarus dismisses the warning and soared near to the sun,, resulting with his wings falling off and him falling to his death in the sea. He is thought to be dead, but feathers near the sea prove otherwise. Icarus thinks of himself so highly, amazing almost before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being proved he is not unique, he goes to live a normal life like everybody else. Yet he is miserable; in fact, he says in line 30, And wishes he had drowned . He is so ashamed of what he has failed to do and how he is now known as normal like all the rest of his people. In addition, line 25 says, Fails every time and hates himself for trying . All Icarus wanted to do was be special, unlike his fellow people. However, because of a simple mistake of not listening to Daedalus about flying into the sun, he despises himself. He thinks of himself as a failure that he wishes to die to now have to cope with the pain anymore. Because of this, I am sorrowful for Icarus because all he wanted to do was prove that he was special and unique. Overall, Icarus and Daedalus wanted to devise a system for Icarus to escape prison, and it resulted in him wishing he was dead. Because of this, I myself was distraught over this, that a character wished to die rather than be told he is the typical Greek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Great Influence Of Manual Work 1 INTRODUCTION The importance of the sense of touch can significantly be seen in jobs that are often done manually. Workers such as hairdressers, bricklayers, carpenters, doctors, plumbers, archaeologists and butchers all rely on the sense of touch to perform their jobs well. These professions make high use of the kinesthetic and tactile abilities to perceive how their work is being done by using the perception of texture, characteristics or properties of the material. The great influence of manual work is quite noticeable in the day to day, and state of the art technology is being incorporated as a result. Nowadays, many machines have taken the place of people to do processes and increase production, which makes the sense of touch lose some of its dominance in daily work [1]. Haptics was introduced in the twentieth century in the field of experimental psychology. Its main objective was the understanding and manipulation of the sense of touch. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to assist in the understanding of contact between human and machine. For example, advanced studies showed that the tactile qualities of environmental structures are much more complex than visual. Robotic systems meant an important step to unravel the puzzles on the sense of touch, such as teleoperation and telepresence. These two were the main precursors for the revolution in the study of haptics [2]. A new bridge between man and computer is being created from the improvement of haptics ... • 7. The World s Total Fertility Rate What to Expect When No One is Expecting Reflective Analysis As our global population count continues to exponentially climb, many people are under the impression the world is overpopulated. A lot of society wonders how we will be able to sustain such a large population. An overpopulated planet could cause or enhance problems such as natural resource depletion, global climate change, and starvation. The majority of people believe overpopulation is our world s most crucial problem, including me. Or at least I did before I read What to Expect When No One is Expecting. This book definitely made me think twice. What to Expect When No One is Expecting, by Jonathan Last, argues how overpopulation will not be a challenge for future generations. In fact, the book shares how married couples are not having enough babies. Statistically, in the last forty years, the world s total fertility rate (TFR) has decreased from 6.0 to 2.52. Meaning, the average woman is having 4.48 less children in her lifetime. At first glance, this statistic seems like a good thing, but in reality it is expected to have a devastating effect. What to Expect When No One is Expecting convinced me the world doesn t have an overpopulation problem by explaining how economics is a major cause of the lowered fertility rates, and consequently, because there are less babies, the economy will take the biggest hit. Today, in America, the TFR stands at 1.93 and continues to fall. However, the average American couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay On The Klu Klux Klan The Klu Klux Klan committed many terrible acts during reconstruction. They murdered and tortured many people of color and any whites who allied with them. I believe that the K.K.K. was able to commit these acts without punishment for many reasons. One reason is the amount of violence during the reconstruction period. Another reason is that the government was in a weakened state. Lastly they could commit these acts by using justifications for their actions. The reconstruction time period was full of violence, making it much easier for the K.K.K to get away with their actions. The civil war had just ended and America was in place of chaos when the Klu Klux Klan rose up. The violence was stemmed the racist views that thrived in the south. In 1886, there was a riot between past black soldiers and white people. White police even assisted in the violent rampages. Some of the members of the KKK were very powerful men in the towns they resided, for example doctors, lawyers, etc. These were trusted people that easily brought their family and friends into the Klan. His conception of the wasteland as an unavoidable, vulgar part of the 1920s society is parallel to his characterization of Myrtle as an unavoidable, vulgar character that refuses to be ignored. He uses her to point out what he sees as the faults of modern society. Myrtle is materialistic, superficial, and stuck living in the physical wasteland referred to as the valley of ashes. Fitzgerald is showing the shallowness, absurdity, and stupidity of the new money American consumer, whom he contrasts to old money Tom Buchanan, who is not duped by the puppy vendor like ignorant Myrtle. Fitzgerald also uses Myrtle to show the lack of compassion and irresponsibility of new money Americans through Myrtle and the puppy. The puppy is referred to as a purchase (28), which Myrtle briefly pays attention to but quickly forgets amongst the smoking and drinking, leaving the puppy with blind eyes through the smoke, and from time to time groaning faintly (37), one of Fitzgerald s most haunting and vivid images in the text. She haughtily talks about imaginary hired help that is supposed to take care of her puppy, which is Fitzgerald s criticism of new money parenting and irresponsibility in modern society. Her self centeredness catches up to her when George discovers the expensive puppy leash before her death. Next, Fitzgerald utilizes Myrtle s superficiality to exhibit another facet of the wasteland in modern society. Despite being a member of the lower class, Myrtle becomes haughty and snobby when she is in the city. The Training Of A Neural Networks In order to have a better understanding of the mechanism used in the prediction process, we need to know what are the stopping conditions, as this process involves a finite number of iterations known a priori. It has been previously proved one of the problems that occur during the training of a neural networks is overfitting towards the input data, which generates low quality predictions [56]. In order to reduce this tendency, the early stopping criteria has been formulated. This involves dividing the input set in three subsets [57]: training set, used to estimte the weights; testing set, used to assess the prediction sample and validation set, which is an accuracy indicator of the prediction sample, although it is not used during the ... Application using neural networks for the real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) prediction This is an empirical example which has the role of highlighting the differences between a neural network and a linear regression model. Lamy Robert estimated a linear regression model to predict the growth of real GDP in Canada [59]. His model explains 82% of the GDP variation in the period 1978 1998. The coefficient obtained are statistically significant so, he the model can be used to predict the values of the GDP for different periods. His model contains six independent variables, which are: R_(t 1) is the quarterly growth of the Canadian Financial Index at t 1; F_t is the employment growth rate at time t; F_(t 1) is the employment growth rate at t 1; B_t is the consumer confidence index; d_(t 9) is the first difference of the long term real interest rate at time t 9 (9 month before time t); d_(t 3) is the first difference of the government budget balance as a share of GDP, at time t 3 (3 months before time t). Did we seem to lose track of the important things that mattered in our lives? • 25. Leading Cause Of Negativity In Society In Arthur Miller s... Rumors are among the many dilemmas afflicting the human condition. They eat away at society like a parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice or decay. Despite the fact that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading cause of negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in the colonial town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self confidence of victims, and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors. Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically change from rumors whether they are true or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to conclude that the rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In The Crucible, a character named Parris illustrates this by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven months out of their house, and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service (Miller 1.1.26). In addition to their assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of Abigail. No matter how much gossip gets into the people s heads who live in Salem, they would never choose to talk to the person, just about them (Decter). Jumping to conclusions causes people to judge others unfairly and without merit, causing physical and emotional damage to anyone affected by the untruth of the rumor. Unfortunately for me, I never got to see my dad since he left my mom before I was born. I grew up in Monticello, New York, a place known for its poverty and violence. Monticello featured woman working in grocery stores and men seen selling and abusing drugs on the streets. Whenever an expensive car would drive by, men would stare and express verbal signs of hatred towards the owner. Since this was the lifestyle I grew up around, I had to make a choice whether to stay here, sell drugs or go to college and pursue a healthier life. An important factor that contributed to my decision, was a recent encounter I had with gender expectations. I understood why our perception, state of mind, was a key factor that determined gender inequality, how it determined who gets hired, who contributes most to his or her work and why this was such a problem. The students and teacher decide upon a description and the criteria for evaluating each project. A deadline is determined, and by that date, each student must share his or her project with the entire class. Before choosing their projects, students are also given time to browse various areas of interest. After completing compacted work, students are allowed to look through research materials to explore various topics. A deadline for choosing a topic for independent projects is also given to the students to limit their browsing time. These kids were influenced by their parents who didn t want them interacting with African Americans. Anne Moody s learns about the significance of race in American social life as well as the differences between the lives of blacks and whites through her experiences at home, school and work.
