Analysis Of The Nantucket Demolition Derby
Autumn on Nantucket is a wonderful time of year. Residents look forward to fewer tourists and the
smart tourists can enjoy the island without the hordes of people who come during the summer
months. There are tons of things happening throughout the season.
The Nantucket Demolition Derby
One of the many events happening is the Nantucket Demolition Derby. This has been an annual
event, sponsored by the Nantucket Demo Association, since 1978. Up until a few years ago, the
Derby was held in the heat of August. Now, it is held sometime in mid October, when cooler
weather makes it a more enjoyable experience for residents and tourists alike.
For 2015, the Derby is being held on Sunday, October 11th. It starts at noon. It is in its usual

Microtask Crowdsourcing Has Been Applied In Many Fields
Microtask crowdsourcing has been applied in many fields in the past decades, however there are
still important challenges not fully addressed, especially in task/workflow de sign and quality
assessment. We take a deeper look at crowdsourcing classification tasks and explore how task and
workflow design can impact the quality of the classification result. Our research will use large
online knowledge base and citizen science projects as examples and investigate the workflow
design considerations and its impact on worker performance as well as overall quality outcome
based on statistical, probabilistic, or machine learning models for true label prediction, such that
design principles can be recommended and applied in other citizen science... Show more content on

While the wisdom of crowd (Howe, 2006) has shown great potentials in these areas, it also exhibits
many challenges (Kittur et al., 2013; Buettner and Buettner, 2016) no matter it is via volunteered
activities (Lease, 2011; Newman et al., 2012) or paid microtask crowdsourcing (Kittur et al., 2013;
Demartini, 2015; Bernaschina et al., 2015).
In a typical microtask crowdsourcing scenario, from the requester s point of view, the most
important challenges include: 1, task and workflow design to make sure that it is easy to be
carried out by non expert workers, and at the same time risk of spammers or low quality workers
can be mitigated to achieve good quality of result; 2, quality assessment approaches to evaluate
the work from crowd workers. Task and workflow design (Little et al., 2010b; Kittur et al., 2011;
Demartini et al., 2012) are crucial in ensuring the task to be outsourced to the crowd is properly
understood, mitigating the chance of spam and keeping users engaged. They are essential to obtain
high quality and quantity of input from crowd workers. Quality assessment techniques can be
either on the fly (Ipeirotis et al., 2014) during the task running that can be used to optimize task
assignment hence reduce cost, or post aggregation (Whitehill et al., 2009; Ipeirotis et al., 2010;
Bachrach et al., 2012; Difallah et al., 2015) which involves various algorithms and strategies that

L Oreal Plenitude Case Study Essay
Problem Analysis The huge success of L Oreal Plenitude in French as the premium skin product
with class to mass strategy was the primary reason for L Oreal to expand the product to US
market. The company started to enter the US market skin care in 1989 through mass channel by
introducing the entire product line (14 SKU s) that had been developed in France, instead of
launching the product one by one. Before Plenitude entered the US market, L Oreal had had good
reputation for its cosmetic and hair product, so the name was critical to sell the products. The
company used the same formula star system in advertising as in France by putting bulk of dollars
on the newest, most technologically advanced product. Even though Plenitude had a... Show more

To reduce confusion, L Oreal Plenitude can divide its product lines into several sub brands, for
example, L Oreal Plenitude Pure Balance Series for women who have oily skin, Nutrient Series
for women who have acne problem, etc. L Oreal can provide in store brochure or leaflet as the
guideline or regime to choose the product. The guideline can start by asking the question such as;
what kind of skin do you have?, Are you in the age 20s, 30s, 40s or 50 plus?, etc. After the
consumers use the guideline, they will know which product they need. L Oreal can also use direct
mail (catalogue) to educate the consumers and promote their product. The catalogue will also give
consumers the guideline of Plenitude products, and information about the newest product and
technology of the brand. To strengthen the value proposition of Plenitude daily cleanser and
moisturizer, the company can create promotional campaign for those particular products. For TV
advertising, they can show three women from different generation, 20s, 30/40s, and 50s who enjoy
their life for having great skin. They are laughing together, spending time together, and sharing the
secret of beautiful skin together, because they use L Oreal Plenitude. At the end of that TV ad, the
company can emphasize the product message L Oreal PlenitudeВ…Perfect Skin for Every Woman.

Stereotype Of The Angry Black Woman
I am loud, irate, and unapproachable. If you disrespect me, I become uncontrollable, because my
only method of communication is through deleterious speech that only escalates the situation
further. I am the angry black woman. We see this horrific stereotype almost every day on
television and very seldom notice it, because we get lost in the entertainment of it. The Angry
Black Woman stereotype is harmful to black women, young and old, because it shows us in a
negative light and can control how other and how we see ourselves. When women get angry, it s
often blamed dismissively on their monthly menstrual cycle. But imagine just how infuriating it
would be if all of your negative emotions were blamed on your year round skin tone. The
stereotype of the angry black woman is a prime example of how these categorizations function as
social control mechanisms. Media constantly use this stereotype of the angry black woman as
rude, stubborn, and most of all angry. Though we all know that most movies are fictional, they
are harmful because they can demonstrate different real life personalities. The Angry Train scene
in Why Did I Get Married, displays this stereotype. In this scene, we see Angela, Marcus wife
confront her husband about his baby mama looking at her crazy. The passengers behind Angela
and Marcus asks her to quiet down, and from there, we see the angry black woman break out,
hence the scene title, Angry Train . We also hear some racist remarks from the

Finding Truth In The Mainstream Media Bias
Viewers are the puppets and Journalists are the puppet masters. Finding truth in the media is
difficult because of all the false information given. Journalist tend to give one sided views when
reporting news. Major news sources only give information that supports their side. Current
events have proven that a person can not believe one news sources to validate a claim. Viewers
are blinded by their bias and need to have a more broad view. In order to find the truth in
journalism, the viewer has to be open minded. The viewer has to go to multiple news sources in
order to get a totally unbiased view on an event due to all the bias displayed in the media.

Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall
have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the
constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the
exception to this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is
convicted of a crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they
were brought over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racismand
having numerous struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of
mistreatment and inequality that people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional
historical evidence, different forms of media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage
of the Thirteenth amendment, there has been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African
Americans. Ironically, the United States is commonly called the land of the free, but five out of
twenty five percent of the world s population is incarcerated in the American prison system
(Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in her film is the loophole that was present
in the Thirteenth amendment. To avoid a public display of slavery, the police force arrested people,
particularly African Americanmen, based on false accusations or for minor offenses. On April 19,
1989, three teenagers were accused

Genetic Screening Persuasive Essay
Prevention is the greatest protection A few years ago, my neighbor got married and was ready to
have a baby. Unfortunately, he and his wife s pre pregnancy check showed that they had a
thalassemia gene, and if they gave birth to a child, the child was likely to die because of severe
thalassemia. Although they want to have a child belonging to themselves, they finally chose to
adopt a child. Thalassemia is a common genetic disease in my province, the local government calls
on all couples to accept genetic screening before pregnancy to avoid newborns with severe
thalassemia and avoid the original burden on the whole society and individuals families. Genetic
screening is a major advance in human medical technology, which enables humans to improve their

the information preservation system of genetic screening is not perfect. The benefit of genetic

The Point Of Euthyphro
What is the point of the Euthyphro?
Euthyphro [ca. 399 395 BCE], by Plato, is a written dialogue about the events which occurred
before the trial of Socrates , where Socrates was charged with two crimes impiety against the
pantheon of Athens and corruption of the youth. Socrates was accused of failing to acknowledge
the gods that the city acknowledges and introducing new deities . The consequence for such a crime
was death. Euthyphro was in the court to present manslaughter charges against his father to the
court. Socrates begins his debate with Euthyphro by asking Euthyphro does he have a clear
understanding of what is pious and impious. He asks this because he is face with the crime of
impiety; Socrates hopes to learn from Euthyphro so he has a better understanding of his charge and
can better defend himself in trial.

A Summary Of The Ponca Tribe
Great Plains tribes share a history of events in the late 19th century. This essay focuses on the
Ponca tribe and the trial of Standing Bear, one of their chiefs. Other tribes experienced similar
incidents of callous disregard for legal rights and struggles to accept their fate of losing their tribal
lands and relocating to Indian Territory that barely sustained the people and shattered tribal
customs and practices. It is also a story of help provided by white Americans to resolve conflicts
and restore the Poncato their rightful land (Brennan, Authors Note). The travails of the Ponca tribe
are typical of 19th century U.S. Indian relations experienced by Native Americans.
Discussion
The Ponca Story The Ponca signed several treaties with the United States after a 1817 peace treaty:
a trade agreement in 1825 and land cession in 1858 and 1865 to ensure military protection and
economic assistance. In the 1860s and 1870s, the Ponca almost starved after droughts, unproductive
bison hunts and constant threats to the Ponca by the Sioux threatened their existence. Rather than
honor treaty obligations, the U.S. gave Ponca land to the Sioux in 1868 that included all of Dakota
Territory (van de Logt). In 1877, Indian tribes, including the Ponca, were ordered to move to Indian
Territory in the south. After ten chiefs visited the new location and found the situation
unsustainable for farming or grazing, eight walked back and stopped at the Otoe and Omaha
reservations. A letter

Position Paper on Stephen Covey s, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
MG 401 Senior Seminar in Management Introduction In 1989, Stephen Covey s book The 7
Habits of Highly Effective People started a landmark revolution in how we think about time and
life management. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our
private and public lives. By developing these habits, one moves from being dependent on other
people to being and acting independently. Then we learn how to move to the more advanced state
of interdependence and successful Cooperation. As a part of the seven habits, Covey introduced
important and powerful techniques of time management under the habit of Put First Things First. ...

Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose
in detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven
into a diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the
diagram, one is reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into
thirteen pieces, with the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the
picture as a whole, as well as seeing the development from dependence to independence to
interdependence. The first three habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to
the final four steps, which include public victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to
give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the
masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of leadership over other leaders. Often I see
these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a difficult situation. They see only a
win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s
section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The first habit talks about being proactive; being
proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all the other habits are
types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who

According to Duara, From a historian s perspective, decolonization was one of the most important
developments of the twentieth century because it turned the world into the stage of history.
Therefore, it is of no surprise that much historical research has been devoted to this phenomenon;
and the various nuances among the decolonization processes undergone by the various Southeast
Asian countries have been of interest. For the purpose of this essay, I shall define В‘decolonization

Secondly, the controversial debate of whether Lee Kuan Yew entered heated debates with Tunku

question of whether Lee did seek to have the independence of Singapore as an individual nation

with that of her neighbours is the matter of whether a mass based indigenous nationalist movement
had emerged on the Singapore political landscape before WWII; and even if it did after the war,
Albert Lau argues that commentators are still not agreed about its efficacy in ending British rule in
Singapore . The lack of this movement can be gleaned from the stances the various spectrums of
Singaporean society took: the Indian community remained politically quiescent throughout most of

Nurture Strongly Influences Early Human Development

Nurture strongly influences early human development
Introduction
While nature produces healthy, well formed infants, nurture helps in developing them in the early
stages of their lives through practice and experience. It means that the early development of a
human is effective and faster by nurture than what comes out of nature. All children go through the
same sequences of growth and development in the same order right from their mother s womb, be it
the development of parts of the body and the development of organs, motor development after birth,
development of speech, etc.. Nature leads to ordinary development of a fetus into a human but it
cannot develop an infant into a healthy minded or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
can affect normal maturation of a fetus. So, it can be clearly noted from above that a fetus can be
completely organized and well developed only when given quality nurturing.
Influence of genetics and environment on the motor development of a child after birth
All children go through the same sequence of motor behaviors in the same order but they go
through the sequence at different rates. It is because those children who are not given attention or
taken good of (nurtured) are seen to develop in a slower rate than those who are given quality
nurture. Even if a child is born physically challenged, he/she can be trained or given physiotherapy
treatment to improve him/her to at least take care of their own selves. This clearly illustrates that
practice and experience makes a child to learn things faster and in a much better way than those
children who are left unnoticed.
Genetic and environmental influence on a child s development of speech
All human infants learn to speak in the course of normal development, but not until they have
attained a certain level of neurological development. It is applicable for both, children who are
given as well as children who are given quality nurture. As we already discussed on the motor
development of a child after birth, even here, in the case of development of speech of a child, the
fact is

Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms
World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European
countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the
Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating
elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most
effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style,
clearly seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating
point of the war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the
discursive and wistful tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to
effectively convey the current state of the narrator and the war.
Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well
as the almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in
the Italian countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a
passive and distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry
laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well
as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these
events, there is also an element of nostalgia and longing towards the

Internal competition to Fiat come from the big Three , Ford, GM, and Chrysler, whilst external
competition comes from makers such as Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai. Since Fiat will also be

How Did Roman Culture Change Over Time
Ancient Rome In this paper I will be talking about Ancient Rome and the Roman Republic. I will
briefly cover how the Republic began and how it changed throughout time. During this time, I will
provide information about the Romans culture and the different influences that affected said
culture. I will also talk about key people that were alive during this time and the part they played
in the Republic. Finally, I will finish off with how the Republic fell and the Empire rose in its place.
The Roman Republic Rome is believed to have been founded in 753 B.C.E and the Roman
Republic in 509 B.C.E, though this is not known for certain (Britannica). Historical writing in
Rome did not start until the late 3rd century B.C.E, which has left much room for interpretation of
when Rome and the Roman Republic really started (Britannica). The Republic began with the
overthrow of their Etruscan conquerors, who had ruled over them for over a hundred years ( The
Roman Republic ). The Etruscans were lead by Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the last of Rome s
seven kings (Britannica). Following the overthrow of the Etruscans, The Romans set up a
government in which representatives were elected by citizens to rule on their ... Show more content

Male Deception In Much Ado About Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing is a study of male deception, taking varying forms of their deceit,
betrayal and treachery. So the phrase, Men were deceivers ever, proves to be a very accurate
representation of Much Ado About Nothing. Moreover, characters such as Don John, Borachio and
even Don Pedro and Claudio prove Balthasar s phrase to ring true, through their respective roles and
intentional actions in the play. Don John, who is notably the main antagonist, is a stagnant portrayal
of Balthasar s quote. Not only does he spend his every waking moment stirring trouble, but most
importantly he takes satisfaction in it. He contingently makes it his mission and purpose to reign
havoc, and to deceive characters of another s false wrongdoing. For reference,

Analysis Of Lather And Nothing Else By Hernando Tellez
Lather And Nothing Else is a short story by Hernando Tellez about a barbour that must shave a
customer s face, but he realizes that his customer is on the opposite side of a violent political
conflict that has gone wrong. When the barbour realized who the man was, he quickly knew there
were only two decisions to make in this tough situation. While shavingthe customer s face, the
barbour plays through scenes and decisions in his head on whether to keep doing his job or to end
this entire political conflictby exposing his identity and killing the customer who happens to be the
cause of this mass destruction between two political parties. Throughout the story, the barbour is
narrating this experience in first person. Not only describing what thoughts went through his head
but also the conversations that went on throughout that time he spent shaving the man s face to
give the reader more description of what went on scene by scene. In paragraph one, the barbour
realized who the man was from the first glimpse he caught of him. The man s name was Captain
Torres(Paragraph 5). Although he knew who the man was, Captain Torres did not have a clue that
the barbour was on the opposite side of the political conflict, or so that is what the barbour
believes. The barbour narrates and guides the reader of what exactly went through his head on that
day. When Captain Torres sits down for his shave, he starts to talk about the conflict saying, the
fellows in the troop must have just

New York University-Personal Narrative
The cold early morning December breeze nipped the tip of my nose fiercely, as I stepped out of
my tiny 2003 black jeep wrangler. I swiftly made my way to the top of the steps leading up to the
entrance of New York University. Despite the frigidness of the weather my palms were still sweaty
and sticky due to the nervousness that starting collegein the middle of the school year was bringing
me. As I reached the doors to the main front office I breathed in heavily through my nose, and

Breath, Dallas. My words shaking. You ve rehearsed this about three billion times.
My fingers curled around the handle and I pulled the door open slightly then all at once. The cozy

The Nude Kenneth Clark Analysis
The first chapter in Kenneth Clark s The Nude makes a powerful assertion about the nude as a
symbol of the classical tradition. As opposed to a naked image, the nude (at least in its academic
context) lacks the discomfort associated with a naked body. Instead in the classical era, the nude
portrayed the ideal body one which embodied the sensuality of human form, the rationality of
mathematics, and the divinity of God in relation to man. In this way the nude became a key
development in the classical era and then again in the Renaissanceperiod as an expression of how a
human ought to live; of an ideal human condition and even more importantly an ideal human form.
Clark s argument delineates the manner in which the nude developed in its form throughout the
history of art, pointing out its seemingly dynamic nature and its relation to the values of the
societies in which it prevailed as an art form. He points out that despite some curious
transformations, [the nude] remains our chief link with the classic disciplines (2). It appears that
the nude as an art form carries a much deeper significance than the nude as a human form. Rather
than just a depiction or replica of one s body, the nude takes into account an idealistic version of
what a body ought to be. But what exactly is this idealistic form, and how has it changed in its
representation? Clark demonstrates that the nude has changed in its manifestations, particularly
among three periods: The Classical era; the

Eastern Grey Squirrel Research Paper
The Eastern grey squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are small mammals that are often seen around
parks and trees in the New York City area. Both males and females look alike in color and size.
On many occasions they involve in behaviors may not be easily understood by the onlookers. They
often engage in behaviors such as deception, a behavior that involve a squirrelto cache its food
from conspecifics by pretending to hide its food in an area but instead carrying the food in its
mouth and hiding it elsewhere (Steele, M. A., Halkin, S. L., Smallwood, P. D., McKenna, T. J.,
Mitsopoulos, K., Beam, M. 2008) and also in cache hoarding such a behavior involves the storing
of food for later retrieval (Hopewell, L. J., Leaver, L. A. 2008). Apart from all the other behaviors

Forging behaviors can be described as a behavior where animals have their heads down in search
of food and not too aware of what is happening in their immediate environment, where as a
vigilant behavior is where an animal is on its hind legs with its heads up or sometimes in a
frozen position and cannot forage (H.R. Pulliam, G.H. Pyke, T. Caraco, 1982). Because squirrels
are small mammals they do tend to be more vigilant of their surroundings. Foraging and vigilant
behaviors are important because of the fact that these animals are smaller and are likely to be
attacked by predators. When they are in a foraging behavior it can be difficult to be aware of other
mammals that are lurking around, thus they also involve themselves in vigilant behaviors to
determine if there is a threat or not. Smaller mammals tend to display higher vigilance than those of
larger sizes due to their increased risk of predation (StevenL.Lima, Thomas J. Valone, Thomas

War. The Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861, shortly after President Lincoln was inaugurated,
in Fort Sumter, South Carolina, and was fought till May 9, 1865, when Robert E. Lee surrendered
the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S.Grant (McPherson). Fighting over the controversy of

On November 19, 1863, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, along with Edward Everett, at
a ceremony dedicating the battlefield as a National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In less
than three minutes, Lincoln identified the nation s mission with the principle that all men are
created equal, spoke of the war as bringing about a new birth of freedom, and defined the essence
of democratic government. Lincoln honored the Union dead and reminded the listeners of the
purpose of the soldier s sacrifice: equality, freedom, and national unity (HistoryNet). The sacrifices
of Union soldiers, Lincoln declared, would ensure that government of the people, by the people,
for the people, shall not perish from the earth. The Battle of Gettysburg which was fought four
months earlier, was the single bloodiest battle of the Civil War, where more than 45,000 men were
killed, injured, and captured. In fact, this battle proved to be the turning point of the war: General
Robert E. Lee s defeat and retreat from Gettysburg marked the last Confederate invasion of Northern

Essay On St Augustine
The life and thoughts of St. Augustine survived the ages through numerous and detailed texts, some
of which written by Augustine himself, others written by others under his supervision. As a result,
the portrait of the prominent medieval philosopher is not only very clear, but also reveals more of
a single figure than that of any other philosopher of his time.
One of the major topics that entranced St. Augustine was the topic of sin, the sinner, and evil. Those
themes possessed some of his more detailed thoughts, themes that were present throughout his life.
The question revolving around the problem of evil are hard to answer, and this essay will attempt
to give a clear account of Augustine s thoughts on this topic. Hopefully, while his thoughts... Show

Although Augustine s view on rhetoric was negative, even within his confessions he employed his
knowledge of the art and made him such a powerful speaker.
In Confessions, Augustine retells his time at Carthage as a time when he would experience
physical love and the desire for it. Because the confessions are written many years after his leaving
the times of adolescence, they are written in retrospect, with Augustine s views very different. Not
only did he separate physical love from God, but he treated physical love as a way to hinder one s
connection to God. Hence, it was natural that he would treat earthly love and desires as inferior,
and harmful.
The power of Augustine s words lay in his vivid descriptions of his acts of sins and desires that
he harnessed within him. By this, in the eyes of the public, he would place himself not as a semi
god as many would think him to be, but as a man like any other, who began his travels along the
same path as everyone else. This would further send a message how other people could reach God,
just as Augustine had, and created a possibility for others to follow. Augustine s sermons must have

The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass
Graft (CABG) surgery is a widely used surgical procedure for the relief of symptoms of Coronary
Artery Disease (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001, p. 1766). Coronary Artery
Disease is the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart
muscles. The buildup of fatty material within the walls of the arteries causes cardiac diseases
(Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010) .To resolve this issue, surgeons take veins and arteries
from elsewhere in the patient s body. Then, surgeons graft the veins and arteries to the coronary
arteries to bypass the atherosclerotic narrowing and improve the blood supply to the heart muscles
(Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010). This procedure increases the blood flow to the heart by
giving the blood a new route around the diseased or clogged artery (Bagielia, Connerney,

Grass roots are among the first core competencies, Croc s established. Croc s participated in
many trade shows presenting the unique shoes. Crocs made its sales efforts by attending trade
shows in industries that would benefit to the product. The consultants would go to garden
shows, boat shows, and pool supply shows and not just talk about the benefits of the simple shoe
that could be overlooked, but bring the excitement of needing to have Crocs. Attending the trade
shows gave Croc s a personal relationship with the stores, and allowed the company to market the
shoes in each store. Placing a Croc s representative in each store allowed for service guarantee,
the ability to ensure its satisfactory delivery to the customer (Schroeder, R. et al, 2013, p. 97).
Crocs took the same grass roots approach in other countries, but the momentum generated in the

Emily Dickinson Themes
Emily Dickinson was one of the greatest American poets. She wrote through the entirety of her
adult life, but she only saw less than a dozen of them published. Dickinson never knew the impact
of her poems on society. With over 2,000 poems total, no one could have predicted that Emily
Dickinson s themes would still be as pertinent today as they were in the late nineteenth century.
Themes such as death, religion, life, and loneliness are some of the most common across her
works. Of her 2,000 or more poems, about 600 are on the subject of death. The majority of
Dickinson s life was consumed by death (LaBlanc 63). Due to frequent confrontations with the
dead and dying, Dickinson began to view death as a friendly creature and often personified it. It
was not uncommon for a single poem to contain multiple themes, sometimes pairing love and
death ( Because I Could Not Stop For Death 3). As for the friendliness of death, Dickinson
comforted the living, giving advice on coping with a loss. Poems started with a death and, by the
end, had looped backed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her life, Emily Dickinson proclaimed and renounced her in God. She abandoned the
conventional marriage and family traditions of her day with no regrets (Bloom 60 61). This

Persuasive Essay On Art Theft
Research Paper The Nazis hid, destroyed and plundered thousands of pieces of art and literature;
the number is so high that experts cannot accurately estimate the amount of art stolen. The art theft,
instigated by the Nazis under Hitler s order, began six years before the second World War had
even started ( Documents Region, City, and Countryside 1). In response to the growing number of
artwork being stolen and destroyed, special commissions were formed to protect the art. The Nazis
plundering and destroying art was beneficial in the way that it united countless people from all over
the world against the destruction of the priceless art, which led to the creation of international art
protection programs and gained funding and support from the public and the government. Adolf
Hitler, before he began the notorious German regime in 1919, had aspirations to be an artist. He
applied to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907; his aspirations to become an artist did not
become a reality as his application to the art school was rejected. This motivated his hatred
towards degenerate art, a type of art that was described as modern; Hitler was known to describe
it as Jewish or communist in nature. Hitler pushed the classical art ideal, in which the only type
of art allowed to be showcased in museums were classical pieces from artists such as Phidias and
Picasso (Campbell 1). As the German regime began to gain wealth and power, the Nazis were
ordered to begin to contact art

The True American Character Analysis
Throughout The True American, Mr. Giridharadas depicted the early life of Raisuddin Bhuiyan
when he still Bangladesh. He described the young Muslim man as a persistent evolutionary
dreamer; the type of dreamer that always had a dream but said dream would likely change for a
better one. This foreshadowed that later in the book Rais dreams would blossom into a passion
for a variety of suitable causes. Giridharadas illustrated Rais s life in a way that was interesting
and informative. Rais s older brother applied for the Sylhet Cadet College. With great dismay,
especially for Rais s mother, Rais s brother was not admitted. After dedicated studying and
determination, Rais applied when he was old enough. Unlike his brother, Rais was accepted.

The Privilege Of Attending The Bush House Museum
I had the privilege of attending the Bush House Museum here in Salem. I went on Sunday
November 20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I ve always
been quite intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the
culture. The Bush House belonged to Asahel BushII (1824 1913) became editor and publisher of
The OregonStatesman newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house
with Eugenia Zieber Bush (1833 1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856 1942), Asahel (1858
1953), Sally (1860 1946) and Eugenia (1862 1932). Later in 1863, Bush s wife died at age 39
with Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth
with their own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following
reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum.
We finally arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guideto come to the door after we rang
the bell. She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house.
We told her we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the
2pm tour and she took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour, she said we did not even
need to come back and prove to her that we bought tickets, she said we simply needed to pay the
admission price at the nearby art gallery. When we went to go

Analysis Of Mrs. Se s By Lahiri
Encaged
In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and
portrays how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel causing them to hold on to their past. She
is able to do this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from
India. Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in
America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a
nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still
wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase
fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating
how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is
representative of the struggles of assimilation. The inevitability of feeling lonely and facing many
restrictions results in Mrs. Sen constantly grasping on to whatever part of India she has left.
Without even realizing this she prevents herself from assimilating. She always relies on Mr. Sen,
she barely knows anybody, she often misses her family and she cannot seem to make America feel
like home. Throughout the story we begin to notice how in America, Mrs. Sen is a somewhat
lonely person. This, however is not by choice. She does not know too many people other than her
husband, a man who calls

Julian Carter s Outlaw
Have you ever felt like you were trapped somewhere against your will? Well that is how Julian
Carter feels in the book Outlaw by Ted Dekker. In this Journal Me the reader will go over three
searches in the book. The three chosen are the search for fate, acceptance, and new life.
However, our main character doesn t feel as if she belongs in the new world she was launched
into. She had dreams about her fate back in Georgia. She started to have dreams about a place
she believed was somewhere in New Guinea. Her dream had one important line: Come to me, it
sang without words. Find me. Join me. Save me...(Dekker 17) . She didn t like her life, so she
ventured her way to Australia. After her husband and father demised she set off on her sojourn with

had the power to start a war or die. The wife of Wiliam(her owner) says that if she looks beautiful

unlike Melino(William s wife). Nevertheless, Julian becomes beautiful to try to impress William,
so she is could be kept by him. At the ceremony with thousands of Tulim people Julian had the
power, all eyes were on her, like the eyes of a cat on a mouse, this was her time. She sung the
same song from her dreams. She started to sing Amazing Grace in front of all the people, she
needed to impress William, because he is the only one that can save her from Kirutu. She sang
one song that changed everything. William defended Julian and took her as a new wife.
Nevertheless, Julian was finally accepted at the price of a war between two brothers, three tribes,
and the valley of Tulim. Overall, the story of Julian Carter is a breathtaking one. She is the
woman with no fear, she started a new life from nothing, but at what price is still to figure out.
Was the risk she took really worth what will happen. She had found her fate, she accepted what was

Post Operative Education to a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patient
One of the most frightening medical diagnoses a patient can receive from a physician is a
malfunctioning heart, a diagnosis that will eventually lead to death if correction of the issue is not
attempted. The heart supplies the entire body with oxygenated blood in addition to requiring its
own supply of oxygen rich blood. This is why coronary arteries are vital to the hearts ability to
pump. A final option to correcting non patent coronary arteries is a surgical procedure, coronary
artery bypass grafting (CABG). Every year approximately 450,000 patients have CABG surgery
in the United States (Mullen Fortino O Brien, 2008). Based on continuing healthcare trends, more
and more people each year are having coronary artery issues causing the need for CABG surgery
to rise. Also patient demographics are changing, they are older, sicker, coronary artery blockage
/ damage is more extensive, and likely have a decrease in functioning of the hearts ventricles
(Sidebotham, McKee, Gillham Levy, 2007). The nursing profession not only has a critical role in
caring for these patients, but also in teaching and educating them before and after the procedure.
Education and teaching has been implemented into evidence based practice for years to facilitate
better patient outcomes. The goal of this literature

Algae Research Paper
One world environmental issue that we have to turn our attention to is poaching, specifically in
Africa, of animals such as elephants, zebras, lions, black rhinos, and mountain gorillas. Last
year alone, over 35000 elephants were killed for their ivory tusks. Ivory is sold illegally for up
to $1000 per pound, and the tusks are often carved into jewelry, religious figurines, utensils, and
other small trinkets. Around 2000 zebras remain in the wild, and these animals are sought after
for their black and white striped skins, which are often made into clothing or accessories. The
surviving lion population is a mere 15% of what it used to be, and that is because farmers keep
killing them before the lions kill their livestock. Lions are often hunted for fun too, most recently
Cecil. The black rhino population is down 97.6% since 1960, and these animals are killed for their
valuable horns. The horns are believed to heal various ailments, when in reality, the horns do not
cure anything, it s all myth. Fewer than 900 mountain gorillas remain in the wild, and infant
gorillas are often sold on the black market... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Such a description suggests their characters do not match perfectly. Mrs. Bennet is not very bright

Reconstruction Of The American Civil War
Minkyo Seo May 26, 2016 Reconstruction As the American Civil War came to a close, the
United States started to revamp the country, during what became known as the Reconstruction
Era. Throughout this Period of time (1865 1877), the authorities attempted to fix America
politically, economically, and physically. The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when
people were evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. As a result of bringing an attempt
to come back from the defeat, the result was insufficient. This clearly shows that the
Reconstruction Era was certainly not a success because the changes created by the government
failed to make positive changes to society. There were numerous of conflicts in The Civil War
and Problems the Nation was Faced with that led up to the reconstruction. One of the origins of
the war was Sectionalism. Sectionalism is the devotion to the interests of one geographic region
over interests of the country in whole. This ultimately led to the union s worst crisis; Civil War
between the North and the South in the early 1860s (Cornfield). On the other hand, Kansas
Nebraska Act Bleeding Kansas of 1854 was a major event occurred. This created territories in

Through speech pathology, people are reached and shown compassion who are typically
considered outcasts in society. SLPs work with individuals who are struggling with various sets
of problems and help to solve those problems through undivided attention and spirits of patience
and willingness to aid people with speech, language, and mental impairments. I believe this
would be a good career fit for me due to my heart for people and my teaching spirit. My mom s

Neighborhood Episode 2
Community emergency preparedness and response is dependent on the willingness of
communities to prepare in advance and to respond to instructions as events unfold (Scutchfiled
Keck, 2009, p. 564). An emergency can be anything from a pandemic of influenza to a natural
disaster that causes disruption of access to health care in a community (Scutchfiled Keck, 2009,
p. 564), such as the forest fire that has occurred in The Neighborhood TM Season 2 Episode 5
(Neighborhood, 2014). This certain forest fire impacted the entire community, particularly those
who have respiratory problems; we are going to look at how it specifically impacted the hospital,
senior center, the school, and the Bley household. The impact the health care workers and the
public health care teams had on the response of the community in this state of emergency.
Summary of Events in the Neighborhood and Response of Health Care Workers Overview of

The Security Of The Maritime Environment
The fact that the United States has over 360 seaports is a common statistic that is thrown around in
numerous documents and reports to emphasize the immensity of providing security in the
maritime environment. Adding to the enormity, is the complexity involved in these seaports
because no two establishments are alike in how they operate. Of course some will be more alike
than others, but each of them will have individual circumstances that will be unique to that
facility. Part of the reason for differences in operation is due to the variety of purposes for which
these ports exist. Some ports focus on passenger cruise vessels or recreational craft, others strictly
on goods and cargo, some have military importance or responsibilities, while... Show more content

As markets become more closely linked because they are connected to water, and the sea is the
only way to transport bulk cargo cost effectively, the impact that organized crimehas in port
facilities is exacerbated. Most of the criminal activity that is taking place in US port facilities can
directly be attributed to organized crime, or at minimum have links to organized crime.
Crime at US Seaports It is hard to know for sure exactly how severe the crime problem is at US
seaports. According to a report published in 2000 by the Interagency Commission on Crime and
Security in US Seaports, there is no collection of data or any reporting systems in place that
adequately collects and reports crime by seaports (Commission 2000, 2). However, if the number
of people being arrested and prosecuted as a result of crimes conducted in port facilities is any
reflection of the criminal activity that regularly transpires, then clearly crime is extensive in port
facilities. The prevailing crimes that take place at US port facilities are drug smuggling, human and
alien smuggling, cargo theft, and internal criminal and commercial conspiracies. These crimes
threaten legitimate business for stakeholders, jeopardize the safety and lives of law abiding
citizens, and exposes the national economy to increased risk.
Drug Smuggling
Drug smuggling is the leading crime occurring in seaports and there is no shortage of innovation.

English Reflection
In my previous English courses, I had no knowledge of writing an essay, or even a proper
sentence. Writing did not seem like anything important in my life, or that it would affect me
anyway in the future. I had despised my own writing and loathed having to write essays for any
of my classes. When I had enrolled in Composition I, I had no idea what I was going to do to pass.
However, in class, we had done collaborative work, which had helped me progress myself.
Collaborative work had consisted of multiple students helping each other, sharing ideas, and
peer reviews. This was a change of pace for me since I had not done that before. In previous classes,
I had done individual work, which was solely myself correcting and working on my work.
Between collaborative work and individual work, I enjoyed working with partners and sharing
each other s experiences to benefit ourselves. Over this class I have developed my writingskills,
learned from my previous mistakes, and understood the writing process.
To begin with, before taking this class I would have grammar errors, low level word choices,
sentence fragments, contractions, and no sentence variety. The grammar in my essays would be
something that I had never worked on or learned from. My word choices were that of a middle
schooler and would sound childish at times. I had never taken the time to learn about the sentence
variety and combinations that were possible. My knowledge of sentence variety was limited to only
compound and

The Texans won nine games in 2014 15, but just two of those victories came against teams with
a record above .500. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who started at quarterback the majority of Houston s
games last season, is suddenly the Jets starting quarterback. Texans head coach Bill O Brien has
yet to name a starting quarterback this season, setting up a battle between Ryan Mallett and
recently acquired Brian Hoyer. In his rookie season, 2014 No. 1 overall draft pick Jadeveon
Clowney played in just four games and failed to record a sack. Clowney will be expected to show
the world why the Texans thought he was worth a No. 1 overall pick, and Houston will attempt to

  • 3. Microtask Crowdsourcing Has Been Applied In Many Fields Microtask crowdsourcing has been applied in many fields in the past decades, however there are still important challenges not fully addressed, especially in task/workflow de sign and quality assessment. We take a deeper look at crowdsourcing classification tasks and explore how task and workflow design can impact the quality of the classification result. Our research will use large online knowledge base and citizen science projects as examples and investigate the workflow design considerations and its impact on worker performance as well as overall quality outcome based on statistical, probabilistic, or machine learning models for true label prediction, such that design principles can be recommended and applied in other citizen science... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the wisdom of crowd (Howe, 2006) has shown great potentials in these areas, it also exhibits many challenges (Kittur et al., 2013; Buettner and Buettner, 2016) no matter it is via volunteered activities (Lease, 2011; Newman et al., 2012) or paid microtask crowdsourcing (Kittur et al., 2013; Demartini, 2015; Bernaschina et al., 2015). In a typical microtask crowdsourcing scenario, from the requester s point of view, the most important challenges include: 1, task and workflow design to make sure that it is easy to be carried out by non expert workers, and at the same time risk of spammers or low quality workers can be mitigated to achieve good quality of result; 2, quality assessment approaches to evaluate the work from crowd workers. Task and workflow design (Little et al., 2010b; Kittur et al., 2011; Demartini et al., 2012) are crucial in ensuring the task to be outsourced to the crowd is properly understood, mitigating the chance of spam and keeping users engaged. They are essential to obtain high quality and quantity of input from crowd workers. Quality assessment techniques can be either on the fly (Ipeirotis et al., 2014) during the task running that can be used to optimize task assignment hence reduce cost, or post aggregation (Whitehill et al., 2009; Ipeirotis et al., 2010; Bachrach et al., 2012; Difallah et al., 2015) which involves various algorithms and strategies that evaluate how ... We see this horrific stereotype almost every day on television and very seldom notice it, because we get lost in the entertainment of it. The Angry Black Woman stereotype is harmful to black women, young and old, because it shows us in a negative light and can control how other and how we see ourselves. When women get angry, it s often blamed dismissively on their monthly menstrual cycle. But imagine just how infuriating it would be if all of your negative emotions were blamed on your year round skin tone. The stereotype of the angry black woman is a prime example of how these categorizations function as social control mechanisms. Media constantly use this stereotype of the angry black woman as rude, stubborn, and most of all angry. Though we all know that most movies are fictional, they are harmful because they can demonstrate different real life personalities. The Angry Train scene in Why Did I Get Married, displays this stereotype. In this scene, we see Angela, Marcus wife confront her husband about his baby mama looking at her crazy. Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racismand having numerous struggles to overcome. • 11. A Summary Of The Ponca Tribe Great Plains tribes share a history of events in the late 19th century. This essay focuses on the Ponca tribe and the trial of Standing Bear, one of their chiefs. Other tribes experienced similar incidents of callous disregard for legal rights and struggles to accept their fate of losing their tribal lands and relocating to Indian Territory that barely sustained the people and shattered tribal customs and practices. It is also a story of help provided by white Americans to resolve conflicts and restore the Poncato their rightful land (Brennan, Authors Note). The travails of the Ponca tribe are typical of 19th century U.S. Indian relations experienced by Native Americans. Discussion The Ponca Story The Ponca signed several treaties with the United States after a 1817 peace treaty: a trade agreement in 1825 and land cession in 1858 and 1865 to ensure military protection and economic assistance. In the 1860s and 1870s, the Ponca almost starved after droughts, unproductive bison hunts and constant threats to the Ponca by the Sioux threatened their existence. Rather than honor treaty obligations, the U.S. gave Ponca land to the Sioux in 1868 that included all of Dakota Territory (van de Logt). In 1877, Indian tribes, including the Ponca, were ordered to move to Indian Territory in the south. After ten chiefs visited the new location and found the situation unsustainable for farming or grazing, eight walked back and stopped at the Otoe and Omaha reservations. A letter ... Position Paper on Stephen Covey Position Paper on Stephen Covey s, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People MG 401 Senior Seminar in Management Introduction In 1989, Stephen Covey s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People started a landmark revolution in how we think about time and life management. In this book, Covey presents seven principles for developing effectiveness in our private and public lives. By developing these habits, one moves from being dependent on other people to being and acting independently. Then we learn how to move to the more advanced state of interdependence and successful Cooperation. As a part of the seven habits, Covey introduced important and powerful techniques of time management under the habit of Put First Things First. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Argument Stephen Covey has much to say on the qualities of effective people. Covey s purpose in detailing the seven habits is to help people improve themselves. The seven habits are woven into a diagram that shows the working of all seven habits in communion. When viewing the diagram, one is reminded of Benjamin Franklin s engraving of the snake which was divided into thirteen pieces, with the caption Join or Die. Each of the seven habits is integral to viewing the picture as a whole, as well as seeing the development from dependence to independence to interdependence. The first three habits, which lead to independence, a private victory, lead to the final four steps, which include public victory. My favorite quote of the book is It is nobler to give yourself completely to one individual than to labor diligently for the salvation of the masses. (Page 201). My job places me in a position of leadership over other leaders. Often I see these leaders locked into a limited vision when faced with a difficult situation. They see only a win/lose or lose/lose scenario. I reflect back on this book frequently and think about the book s section on win/win and seeing outside the box. The first habit talks about being proactive; being proactive is the foundation of the entire seven habits paradigm. In a sense, all the other habits are types of being proactive. This entails a realization that you are a person who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Secondly, the controversial debate of whether Lee Kuan Yew entered heated debates with Tunku Abdul Rahman, therefore engineering the whole separation from Malaysia has also raised the question of whether Lee did seek to have the independence of Singapore as an individual nation state. The second salient point of dissimilarity when comparing Singapore s decolonization process with that of her neighbours is the matter of whether a mass based indigenous nationalist movement had emerged on the Singapore political landscape before WWII; and even if it did after the war, Albert Lau argues that commentators are still not agreed about its efficacy in ending British rule in Singapore . The lack of this movement can be gleaned from the stances the various spectrums of Singaporean society took: the Indian community remained politically quiescent throughout most of the interwar years, and few issues actually roused the Indians from their traditional docility ; the political awakening among the dominant Chinese and minority Malay, and Indian communities by ... Nurture Strongly Influences Early Human Development Roshan Akthar Jahir Hussain 200821027 Nurture strongly influences early human development Introduction While nature produces healthy, well formed infants, nurture helps in developing them in the early stages of their lives through practice and experience. It means that the early development of a human is effective and faster by nurture than what comes out of nature. All children go through the same sequences of growth and development in the same order right from their mother s womb, be it the development of parts of the body and the development of organs, motor development after birth, development of speech, etc.. Nature leads to ordinary development of a fetus into a human but it cannot develop an infant into a healthy minded or ... Influence of genetics and environment on the motor development of a child after birth All children go through the same sequence of motor behaviors in the same order but they go through the sequence at different rates. It is because those children who are not given attention or taken good of (nurtured) are seen to develop in a slower rate than those who are given quality nurture. Even if a child is born physically challenged, he/she can be trained or given physiotherapy treatment to improve him/her to at least take care of their own selves. This clearly illustrates that practice and experience makes a child to learn things faster and in a much better way than those children who are left unnoticed. Genetic and environmental influence on a child s development of speech All human infants learn to speak in the course of normal development, but not until they have attained a certain level of neurological development. • 19. Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style, clearly seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating point of the war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the discursive and wistful tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to effectively convey the current state of the narrator and the war. Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well as the almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in the Italian countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a passive and distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). • 26. The Nude Kenneth Clark Analysis The first chapter in Kenneth Clark s The Nude makes a powerful assertion about the nude as a symbol of the classical tradition. As opposed to a naked image, the nude (at least in its academic context) lacks the discomfort associated with a naked body. Instead in the classical era, the nude portrayed the ideal body one which embodied the sensuality of human form, the rationality of mathematics, and the divinity of God in relation to man. In this way the nude became a key development in the classical era and then again in the Renaissanceperiod as an expression of how a human ought to live; of an ideal human condition and even more importantly an ideal human form. Clark s argument delineates the manner in which the nude developed in its form throughout the history of art, pointing out its seemingly dynamic nature and its relation to the values of the societies in which it prevailed as an art form. He points out that despite some curious transformations, [the nude] remains our chief link with the classic disciplines (2). It appears that the nude as an art form carries a much deeper significance than the nude as a human form. Rather than just a depiction or replica of one s body, the nude takes into account an idealistic version of what a body ought to be. But what exactly is this idealistic form, and how has it changed in its representation? Clark demonstrates that the nude has changed in its manifestations, particularly among three periods: The Classical era; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Confessions, Augustine retells his time at Carthage as a time when he would experience physical love and the desire for it. Not only did he separate physical love from God, but he treated physical love as a way to hinder one s connection to God. The power of Augustine s words lay in his vivid descriptions of his acts of sins and desires that he harnessed within him. Coronary Artery Bypass Exercise The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Chantelle Spence Nova Southeastern University The Prevalence of Depression after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery is a widely used surgical procedure for the relief of symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001, p. 1766). Coronary Artery Disease is the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscles. The buildup of fatty material within the walls of the arteries causes cardiac diseases (Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010) .To resolve this issue, surgeons take veins and arteries from elsewhere in the patient s body. Then, surgeons graft the veins and arteries to the coronary arteries to bypass the atherosclerotic narrowing and improve the blood supply to the heart muscles (Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery,, 2010). This procedure increases the blood flow to the heart by giving the blood a new route around the diseased or clogged artery (Bagielia, Connerney, McLaughlin, Shapiro, Sloan, 2001). Dickinson never knew the impact of her poems on society. With over 2,000 poems total, no one could have predicted that Emily Dickinson s themes would still be as pertinent today as they were in the late nineteenth century. Themes such as death, religion, life, and loneliness are some of the most common across her works. Of her 2,000 or more poems, about 600 are on the subject of death. The majority of Dickinson s life was consumed by death (LaBlanc 63). Due to frequent confrontations with the dead and dying, Dickinson began to view death as a friendly creature and often personified it. It was not uncommon for a single poem to contain multiple themes, sometimes pairing love and death ( Because I Could Not Stop For Death 3). Persuasive Essay On Art Theft Research Paper The Nazis hid, destroyed and plundered thousands of pieces of art and literature; the number is so high that experts cannot accurately estimate the amount of art stolen. The art theft, instigated by the Nazis under Hitler s order, began six years before the second World War had even started ( Documents Region, City, and Countryside 1). In response to the growing number of artwork being stolen and destroyed, special commissions were formed to protect the art. The Nazis plundering and destroying art was beneficial in the way that it united countless people from all over the world against the destruction of the priceless art, which led to the creation of international art protection programs and gained funding and support from the public and the government. Adolf Hitler, before he began the notorious German regime in 1919, had aspirations to be an artist. He applied to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1907; his aspirations to become an artist did not become a reality as his application to the art school was rejected. This motivated his hatred towards degenerate art, a type of art that was described as modern; Hitler was known to describe it as Jewish or communist in nature. Analysis Of Mrs. Se s By Lahiri Encaged In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and portrays how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel causing them to hold on to their past. She is able to do this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of assimilation. Perrin Remington College School of Nursing Post Operative Education to a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patient One of the most frightening medical diagnoses a patient can receive from a physician is a malfunctioning heart, a diagnosis that will eventually lead to death if correction of the issue is not attempted. The heart supplies the entire body with oxygenated blood in addition to requiring its own supply of oxygen rich blood. This is why coronary arteries are vital to the hearts ability to pump. A final option to correcting non patent coronary arteries is a surgical procedure, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Every year approximately 450,000 patients have CABG surgery in the United States (Mullen Fortino O Brien, 2008). Based on continuing healthcare trends, more and more people each year are having coronary artery issues causing the need for CABG surgery to rise. Also patient demographics are changing, they are older, sicker, coronary artery blockage / damage is more extensive, and likely have a decrease in functioning of the hearts ventricles (Sidebotham, McKee, Gillham Levy, 2007). The nursing profession not only has a critical role in caring for these patients, but also in teaching and educating them before and after the procedure. Education and teaching has been implemented into evidence based practice for years to facilitate better patient outcomes. The goal of this literature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States unfortunately faced struggles, when people were evidently unable to adapt themselves to the era. Collectively, my mom, a speech pathologist, and I sat down and watched videos that she had of her own vocal chords being activated and used for communication through speech and language. I was intrigued by the way that they worked and the way they were used to enable communication. My mom taught me about her work as a speech pathologist and how she had studied the vocal chords specifically to help her with the ability to train others who had speech and language impairments and communication disabilities. It was through my research and careful observation of the way that the vocal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through speech pathology, people are reached and shown compassion who are typically considered outcasts in society. SLPs work with individuals who are struggling with various sets of problems and help to solve those problems through undivided attention and spirits of patience and willingness to aid people with speech, language, and mental impairments. I believe this would be a good career fit for me due to my heart for people and my teaching spirit. My mom s perspective of me pursuing a career as an SLP is that it would be a good fit due to my kind and gentle spirit and conduciveness with working with struggling individuals. I also have an immediate family legacy of multiple speech pathologists that work in both the medical and educational fields which increases my knowledge and familiarity with the career. While I believe that speech pathology would ultimately be a good fit for me, I tend to struggle with patience, a key component of working as an SLP, which is a challenge that I would have to work to overcome in order fulfill my role as a speech pathologist. Neighborhood Episode 2 Community emergency preparedness and response is dependent on the willingness of communities to prepare in advance and to respond to instructions as events unfold (Scutchfiled Keck, 2009, p. 564). An emergency can be anything from a pandemic of influenza to a natural disaster that causes disruption of access to health care in a community (Scutchfiled Keck, 2009, p. 564), such as the forest fire that has occurred in The Neighborhood TM Season 2 Episode 5 (Neighborhood, 2014). This certain forest fire impacted the entire community, particularly those who have respiratory problems; we are going to look at how it specifically impacted the hospital, senior center, the school, and the Bley household. The impact the health care workers and the public health care teams had on the response of the community in this state of emergency. • 53. The Security Of The Maritime Environment The fact that the United States has over 360 seaports is a common statistic that is thrown around in numerous documents and reports to emphasize the immensity of providing security in the maritime environment. Adding to the enormity, is the complexity involved in these seaports because no two establishments are alike in how they operate. Of course some will be more alike than others, but each of them will have individual circumstances that will be unique to that facility. Part of the reason for differences in operation is due to the variety of purposes for which these ports exist. Some ports focus on passenger cruise vessels or recreational craft, others strictly on goods and cargo, some have military importance or responsibilities, while... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As markets become more closely linked because they are connected to water, and the sea is the only way to transport bulk cargo cost effectively, the impact that organized crimehas in port facilities is exacerbated. Most of the criminal activity that is taking place in US port facilities can directly be attributed to organized crime, or at minimum have links to organized crime. Crime at US Seaports It is hard to know for sure exactly how severe the crime problem is at US seaports. According to a report published in 2000 by the Interagency Commission on Crime and Security in US Seaports, there is no collection of data or any reporting systems in place that adequately collects and reports crime by seaports (Commission 2000, 2). However, if the number of people being arrested and prosecuted as a result of crimes conducted in port facilities is any reflection of the criminal activity that regularly transpires, then clearly crime is extensive in port facilities. The prevailing crimes that take place at US port facilities are drug smuggling, human and alien smuggling, cargo theft, and internal criminal and commercial conspiracies. These crimes threaten legitimate business for stakeholders, jeopardize the safety and lives of law abiding citizens, and exposes the national economy to increased risk. Drug Smuggling Drug smuggling is the leading crime occurring in seaports and there is no shortage of innovation. The most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. English Reflection In my previous English courses, I had no knowledge of writing an essay, or even a proper sentence. Writing did not seem like anything important in my life, or that it would affect me anyway in the future. I had despised my own writing and loathed having to write essays for any of my classes. When I had enrolled in Composition I, I had no idea what I was going to do to pass. However, in class, we had done collaborative work, which had helped me progress myself. Collaborative work had consisted of multiple students helping each other, sharing ideas, and peer reviews. This was a change of pace for me since I had not done that before. In previous classes, I had done individual work, which was solely myself correcting and working on my work. Between collaborative work and individual work, I enjoyed working with partners and sharing each other s experiences to benefit ourselves. Over this class I have developed my writingskills, learned from my previous mistakes, and understood the writing process. To begin with, before taking this class I would have grammar errors, low level word choices, sentence fragments, contractions, and no sentence variety. The grammar in my essays would be something that I had never worked on or learned from. My word choices were that of a middle schooler and would sound childish at times. I had never taken the time to learn about the sentence variety and combinations that were possible. My knowledge of sentence variety was limited to only compound and ... • 56. Texas Football Game Analysis The Texans won nine games in 2014 15, but just two of those victories came against teams with a record above .500. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who started at quarterback the majority of Houston s games last season, is suddenly the Jets starting quarterback. Texans head coach Bill O Brien has yet to name a starting quarterback this season, setting up a battle between Ryan Mallett and recently acquired Brian Hoyer. In his rookie season, 2014 No. 1 overall draft pick Jadeveon Clowney played in just four games and failed to record a sack. Clowney will be expected to show the world why the Texans thought he was worth a No. 1 overall pick, and Houston will attempt to reach the postseason for the first time since the 2012 13 season. The Chiefs defense even finished seventh in the league in total yards allowed last season So, why didn t Kansas City finish with a better record? Look no further than the teams receiving corps, which failed to haul in one catch for a touchdown last season.
