Comparing The Silk Road And Its Effect In China And The West
3. Describe the Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West.
The Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West can be best described as the primary
trade routes from China to Italy, specifically Rome. The name Silk Road would lead one to think it
was simply a road traveled much like traveling from North Carolina to California using Interstate
40. The Silk Road was much more than that. The trade routes of the Silk Road had a great and long
lasting effect on China and the West.
The Silk Road began in about 114 BCE. It was the fabled trade links between East Asia and the
West. The 5000 mile long network of caravan and sea routes stretched from Chang an to
westernmost point of the Great Wall of China; then all the way ... Show more content on

Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and
religions, syncretic philosophies, and various technologies, as well as diseases, also travelled
along the Silk Road. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a means of carrying
out cultural trade among the civilizations along its network. The Silk Road became its own demise
as well. As luxury goods were exported from China throughout the world, the methods of production
that had been kept secret in China came out too. Europeans began to develop manufacturing
technics to emulate Chinese production. Europeans produced and manufactured the items only
available from China and no longer need to import from China. By the sixteenth century, the Silk
Road was no longer in use. In conclusion, the Silk Road connected the many cultures of the time.
The Silk Road promoted education and invention as all the various items imported and exported
traveled throughout the world. The development of the civilizations of the time grew and became

The Cost Of Employees For Teleworking
Majority of employees decide for teleworking mainly because of several benefits teleworking is
offering. The first advantage is harmony of work and personal life. Employees have more free time
they can spend with their children and family. Next advantage means higher flexibility as
teleworkers may often chose the working hours and take the advantage for themselves. This allows
them to choose the hours during which they are the most productive. Furthermore, teleworkers
decreased everyday commutingto work saving their time, additional costs for travelling as well as
stress (Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). In addition, not only employees benefit from teleworking.
Company profits from teleworkers as well. Late research of the British Broadcasting Corporation
showed savings of approximately 25 per cent. These savings are the results of decrease of bills in
office space including heating, electricity (Loughran, 1998 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth,
2003). Implications for increased productivity, loyalty and overall quality of work have been found
among teleworkers (Baruch, 2000).
However, teleworking is accompanied by a range of negatives too. The most common of them is
social segregation. An analysis from 1983 showed that 60 per cent of teleworkers in Great Britain
considered social segregation to be the greatest drawback of teleworking (Huws, 1984 as quoted in
Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Presenteeism is regarded as another disadvantage of teleworking.
Teleworkers are hardly

Don DeLillo s novel, White Noise revolves around the life of Jack, a Hitler Studies scholar at

where the consumerism culture is highly influenced by media and companies. The characters

Jack is shown as one who is highly established in his field of work. Unfair influences of the
consumerism culture are to blame for the Jack s outfits and his professional title. In addition, the
fact that only highly valued tourist destinations do record significant tourist visits could have
persuaded Murray to look closer into the value of the site, perhaps due to media influences on his
ideology. Murray s skewed analysis of the important tourist attraction as a seemingly worthless
facility deserves more thought in order to uncover the actual reasons behind the highly toured
places. In general, worthless tourist destinations play host to just a handful of visitors who upon
noticing the worthlessness would not want to return to the site. By contrast, the landmark might
have attracted significant public investment for a reason. Murray s perception that no credible
difference exists between superficial and deeper meaning of the barn is highly dependent on
skewed external forces within the media. Similarly, DeLillo mocks neo modern human s inability to

Henry Ford: The Industrial Innovator
Henry Ford s famous words, Don t find fault, find a remedy, played a key role in his success in

He was a man who was always willing to put in the time to produce the best product (York). His
continual dedication and attention to detail led to Henry Ford s success as engineer and later founder

The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power
Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation
On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has
authority over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser
power might face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking
the Rules to Rise to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A.
Van Kleef, Astrid C. Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu М€ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou,
explores the concept of power and transgression. Such that if powerful people are expected to act
against the norm, then acting against the norm should make people seem more powerful. The
overall study focused on the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Van Kleef et al., 2011)
The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two
scales. The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described
social impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7
with 1 being definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate
the extent to which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position
; . . . is in charge of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011),
applied to the person depicted in the scenario.
Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel
with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they
recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the
participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both
scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van
Kleef et al., 2011).
Study 2: The Bookkeeper Study 2 employed a different type of norm violation to examine if the

Carol Ann Duffy Valentine
Examine the way Carol Ann Duffy presents relationships in Valentine . Refer to other poems about
relationships in your answer.
This essay will be exploring the use of language and imagery in the poem Valentine by Carol Ann
Duffy to emphasise certain emotions within the text. This poem refers to the dark side of love and
relationships several times, for example; Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips. This creates a
different atmosphere to the stereotypical love poems, which are known for their mention of red
roses and satin hearts. Although the title gives us an impression of a clichГ© filled poem, as we

The use of the detached word Lethal in the final stanza suggests that this is the core to the emotion
of love, and the surface to the surrounding layers is red roses and satin hearts.
We can compare Valentine to Sonnet 18 written by William Shakespeare and Sonnet 43 by
Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Despite having to perhaps read more deeply into Sonnet 18 to
understand its purpose, we can see from the first line; Shall I compare thee to a summer s day?
that it is of a romantic genre. This line can also be linked to Romeo and Juliet perhaps suggesting
that Shakespeare has emotional attachments to the message he is attempting to articulate, as he
uses this motive in more than one of his pieces. Whilst the opening greets us with a warm
welcome and the perception that it will continue to express a contented vibe, a turning point of
But... is introduced. It then goes on to use immortality as a comparison to relationships, for
example; Nor shall Death brag thou wander st in his shade. This mention of demise can also be
associated with the plot of Romeo and Juliet supporting the point made earlier. Giving the
inanimate object of Death a capital letter is a use of personification that proposes the idea to the
reader that death is living, and it is always something to be feared.
Sonnet 43 also grabs the reader s attention with a question that is later answered. The use of the

The Time Machine clearly favors a communistic society, as Wells himself was a fan of Karl
Marx. The novel successfully shows that capitalism can logistically separate classes to the point
where it is morally unfair. Wells is also supported by current events. In America, our middle class
is getting smaller while our lower class gets bigger. The stratification of classes and money in our
capitalistic economy is ridiculously uneven. Marxist communism on the other hand would place
primary ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state, creating a classless
society. My second Question is what would the issues be in a communistic society? In other

Essay On Schizoaffective
Schizophrenic or schizoaffective: A critical analysis of a popular press article
A diagnosis of childhood onset schizophrenia (COS) is rare. Exactly how rare is unknown as the
rate of prevalence has been reported from 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 40,00 (Sood Kattimani, 2008;
Gochman, Miller, Rapaport, 2011). Regardless of the disorder s prevalence, witnessing a child
battle the inner demons that are frightening even for adults is disturbing. The only distinguishing
factor between COS and schizophrenia is age of onset. If individuals are 18 or younger when they
display symptoms, they will be diagnosed with COS. When someone is so young at age of
onset their disorder will be more severe and will have worse long term outcomes (Mash Wolfe,
2016). When a child is diagnosed with an uncommon disease like COS it is typically reported in
the news. This is the case with Gianni Cristini who is haunted by scary voices and suicidal
thoughts, and has been since he was younger than 4 years old. Because his symptoms were so
severe and rare, he was diagnosed with an array of disorders including autism, depression, and
attention deficit disorder. Gianni s diagnosis at the time of the article was bipolar schizophrenic
affective disorder.

Individuals with schizoaffective disorder experience a mood component that is not seen as much in
schizophrenia; and an individual with schizoaffective disorder will not have social dysfunction
symptoms, like an individual with schizophrenia would (Mathews Barch, 2010; Esan, 2015). This
is unclear in Lah s article because she has reported the disorder as being schizophrenia, not
schizoaffective. Gianni does not appear to have any problems interacting socially, which further
emphasizes the need for his diagnosis to be schizoaffective

The Role Of The Transmission Of Knowledge Walter M. Miller...
The role of the transmission of knowledge in Walter M. Miller s A Canticle for Leibowitz is vital
for people to recall and study more of the past prior to the nuclear war. Our contemporary world
understands the significance contained in past literacy and oral traditions to teach us our
civilization s past, however, their current forms are not cherished by this generation due to
technological advances. Even though the situations and settings in the world of Canticle for
Leibowitz and the contemporary world differ, the use of each tradition remains alike even if one
is cherished more than the other. More so, the transmission of knowledge in the form of literacy,
in the novel, is most reliable for teaching about the past, while others (e.g. Simpletons) either view
this form unfavorably or choose to abuse it for their own satisfaction. Oral traditions, as well in the
novel, are less favorable to higher authorities of the Church due to its degree of reliability; yet, oral
traditions can be instrumental for others to spread wonder and fear. The 21st centuryutilizes new
forms of oral traditions through online media, and concern themselves less with literacy (e.g. books
and newspapers).
Literacy is a vital and cautionary form that instructs the monks and our contemporary world about
man s past, however, literacy, outside of the Leibowitz abbey, is viewed as uninteresting and
inferior; furthermore, literacy is a danger that can support our own biases rather than truth. The

Brian s Song Technology And Culture Analysis
Exam #2: Brian s Song, Flow, and Culture In Television: Technology and Cultural Form ,
Williams labels flow as the defining characteristic of broadcasting, simultaneously as a
technology and as a cultural form . TV broadcasting slowly expanded its straightforward
approach to programming by developing a planned flow , tying programs into a larger goal of
subtly goading audiences to stay tuned for other (sometimes related, sometimes not)
programming. Brian s Song, maybe the most successful TV movie to come out in 1971 (along
with Spielberg s Duel), is a prime example of a TV network both capitalizing on its existing base
and inviting new audiences while at the same time promoting its own brand (ABC s still fairly new

Brian s Song, while meaningful and groundbreaking (in regards to its impact on the future of

agents. The audience became so engaged with the film that they were willing to sit through
several minutes of commercials, both MNF related and promoting other ABC programs,
interspersed throughout the film just to see its conclusion. The consensual space wasn t created
out of an actual want for positive representation, but out of necessity. Even in the 70s, it was
impossible for a program to be a huge success with a limited audience. Brian s Song benefitted
from its inclusion of female characters (however one dimensional) not only because they
allowed straight male viewers to cry knowing they were crying over equally straight characters,
but because it allowed women who weren t previously football fans to gain some interest. The
family angle is another aspect of the consensual space, as families in this sense aren t limited by
class or race, with black and white families alike being able to enjoy the film and be the target
group for ads displayed for other family oriented shows. In a way, ABC used Brian s Song and the

Abstract
Utilization of fiber reinforced composites for engineering applications is gaining importance to
derive many advantages such as manufacturing process flexibility, high strength to weight ratio. The
machining of composites is always not preferred because of the structural disturbances generally
occur due to damages caused by machining forces to the fiber matrix interfaces, which in turn leads
to the reduction in the mechanical properties of composite as a whole. However machining is
necessary in special situations where the dimensional tolerances are to be maintained very close in
the case of the composites mating with the other components.
The present work aims at identifying the better milling process parameters to obtain better finish
across the machined surface with minimum damage. This paper indeed comparison discussions

The essential features of an engagement policy option are a robust diplomatic strategy, reassessing
economic sanctions, and Iranian international relations. The end state is an engagement strategy
that prevents Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
A diplomatic strategy is the best option in engaging Iran but it will require patience and a long term
commitment. The impact to Iran over the past 34 years is a zcountry that is isolated from not only
the Middle East but also the international community. Only through a bilateral diplomatic effort will
the United States convince Iran to change its foreign policy. The focus of the bilateral discussions

The United States And America
Who we are
The United States has various relationships with the world, some more complicated than others.
One thing this nation has that is better than most countries is the fact that we are a very culturally
diverse society, which can be beneficial. In relation to others, the U.S. is different from other
nations by our diverse cultures, religions and just like many others, we have issues we come face
to every day. Americans deal with diversity as they work closely with other cultures by putting their
differences aside to achieve something. We have a society that is based more along a judeo
christian mentality and structure versus more of other predominent religious beliefs.

a union of people of different cultures. We have problems, but regardless of everything else, we
are still one nation, a combined group of people with different beliefs. In the article, Patriotism and
Cosmopolitanism , Martha C. Nussbaum states, emphasis on patriotic pride is both morally
dangerous and, ultimately, subversive of some of the worthy goals patriotism sets out to serve.
Nussbaum agrees with Rabindranath Tagores novel, The Home and the World, being patriotic can
be dangerous and even may go against the goals of patriotism of national unity and moral ideals. A
lot of countries like the United States are very patriotic and it may interfere with the relationship
they have with the rest of the world. Americans that are having a hard time with the diverse cultures
that surrounds them should lean more towards a cosmopolitan ideal whose devotion is on as
association of human beings in the whole world.
Some may argue that being patriotic and having certain beliefs is what creates the problems
between nations and between different cultures. We still have these puritan beliefs, especially the
conservative side, now we are trying to change that in order to tend to everyone s feelings and
needs. That s the reason a lot of people who are extremely conservative feel like their religious
rights is being put aside. For those who are over patriotic it can be dangerous when it comes to the
point of starting to take

Wherever there is no wax, the cloth will be dyed, but where the cloth is protected will remain the

Warming the whole tray in a steamer basket double boiler on my stove. As soon as I achieved
liquid wax, dipping a paintbrush in and painting quickly I achieved a beautiful and colorful

newspaper (I keep a roll of newsprint paper purchased cheap from my local newspaper)and

Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi
The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki
tavi fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment.
Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the
middle of the floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the
real fighting. He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a
weasel in his head and his habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could
scratch himself anywhere he pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could
fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the
burrow where he lived with his father and mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a
roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses.
When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed,
and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose. Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s
take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead. (Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling
and the movie Rikki tikki taviis about a mongoose named Rikki tikki tavi. This mammal is one of
the great fighters of the dreaded cobras, and in this story, the Rulers of the garden. The book

Pride Blinds Mr Darcy
Pride blinds the main characters in Austen s Pride and Prejudice and in Dostoevsky s Crime and

Relationship Between Customers And Employees At Caje And...
Introduction:
The focus of my study will be examining the relationships between customers and employees at
CAJÉ and what behavioral patterns customers conduct when reacting with one another. I will be
looking at the motivations behind customers to go to CAJÉ and the sense of trust that strangers
share with one another while at the CafГ©. I wanted to ask why students are more inclined to trust
others to watch their belongings while they leave the CAJÉ? Additionally, what motivates people
to go to CAJÉ?
Methods:
In order to collect my data, I practiced participant observation through going to CAJÉ and sitting
at various tables each time. I took typed up observations on my computer which looked similar to
studying, helping me immerse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During my participant observation I chose to ask a female student if I could sit across from her.
She told me of course. A few minutes later she asked if I would watch her belongings which
included her laptop and background, while she quickly used the restroom. Over the course of the
hours I sat there I noticed that a few other students asked others to watch their stuff. When
interviewing an student employee she told me that I leave my stuff at a table and will leave for up
to an hour and nothing bad has ever happened to any of my things .
Students come to CAJÉ for various reasons. The majority of come to CAJÉ because they
enjoy doing school work there, it s a good meeting spot, friendly staff, to socialize, good coffee
green tea matcha. During one of my interviews, the interviewee stated that I love to study at
CAJÉ, but I can never really expect to get a significant amount of work done. I always get
distracted by everyone I know there . I observed the majority of the students in the cafГ© were on
their laptops and what appeared to be studying. At closer observation I noticed many were
procrastinating through texting or web surfing. Nearly all of the students had their earphones in
while studying, regardless of the music that was being played from CAJÉ s speakers. The other
sounds that you could hear was the blender, the tapping of the portafilter (used for

Difference Between Round And Square Donuts
Comparing the volumes of a round and square donut.
Which of these two donuts better fits in a dozen box?
Christina Tannous
Supervisor: Mr. Omar Rachmani
January 25, 2015
Everybody loves to have a donut every once in a while. It s a tasty desert that nobody can deny;
children all the way to adults love it. I am personally a huge donut lover! When I usually walk
through the mall I find different coffee shops selling square donuts, and not only round ones. This
is what sparked the idea in my head that there is a chance that the square donut can be economical

While if the producers were to depend on producing round donuts, the donut box would not be
completely filled at the corners, leaving empty spaces at the corner and between two consecutive
donuts. The percentage increase in the amount of donut found per donut suggests as well that it is
better for the producers to make square donuts, which in this case benefits the consumer as well.
One thing that must be taken into consideration when finding the volume of a square donut is that
the corners of this donut are not perfectly edged, which means that even though it fits into a
rectangular box better than a round donut, there are still very minimal empty spaces that are not
covered.
Overall, my aim in this experiment is to prove how it will be efficient to produce a square donut
and depend on it, because it will be a new trend that everyone wants to try, there will be more
dough per donut, price change wouldn t be higher than that of a round donut since the diameter of
the circle and the length of the side of the square donut are the

Cuban Missile Crisis Analysis
The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the Missile Scare, was a 2 week period in October of
1962 that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union.
Tension between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to
be a period between 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Unionin 1991. Intelligence gathered over
the span of couple months all seemed to lead to the common conclusion that the Soviet s are
installing offensive nuclear weapons that will be able to reach continental US in mainland Cuba.
The initial spark seemed to be the awfully failed attempt to invade Cuba, also known as the Bay of
Pigs invasion under the Kennedy administration, and the presence of American Jupiter Ballistic
missiles in Turkey and Italy. What is interesting about the Cuban Missile crisisis how the Kennedy
administration confronted the issue. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military officials of the
United States pushed for a full on invasion, which could trigger a world wide nuclear war.
Kennedy wanted to avoid a full on confrontation, making him seem intelligent but weak . In the
film, Thirteen Days, based off the memoir of Robert F. Kennedy, Thirteen Days, where Robert
wrote about his point of view of the Cuban Missile Crisis, revealed how complex and mentally
demanding it was to resolve and dissipate tensions with the Soviet Union without causing World
War III. Photographic intelligence taken by a spy plane going over mainland Cuba revealed
about 40 intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of reaching continental United States.
There were 3 options; diplomatic talks and international pressure, a blockade, or a full on
invasion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff pushed for a full on invasion, meanwhile the Kennedy s
pushed for a less aggressive move. EXCOMM, the Executive Committee of the National Security
Council composing of the NSC and key advisors the President hand picked, met in the White
House during the crisis to discuss how to proceed on the issue. The film revealed how much the
Joint Chiefs of Staff disliked Kennedy s methods and how much they wished to act on their own.
Nuclear missile tests were conducted independent of the oval office, seen

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disorder
Abstract
Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic disease commonly
associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and inflammation all features of insulin resistant syndrome.
However, very limited data are available regarding the association of subclinical inflammation and
insulin resistance with NAFLD in a prediabetic state. We, therefore, conducted the study to assess
this relationship among this population.
Methods: We studied a cross sectional analytical design of 140 [male/female, 77/63; age in years
(ranges), 45 (25 68)] prediabetic subjects after confirming with 75 g oral glucose tolerance test
(OGTT). The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by ultrasonic examination of the liver and divided into
groups of without NAFLD (n = 63) and NAFLD (n = 77). All individuals underwent anthropometric
and clinical examinations. Among laboratory investigations, serum glucose was estimated by
glucose oxidase method, serum lipid profile and liver enzymes were measured by the enzymatic
colorimetric method and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured by high performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC) technique. Serum insulin and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP)
were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) was calculated
by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA).
Results: There was significantly higher levels of hsCRP (2.82 В± 1.60 vs. 1.39 В± 0.66 mg/l, P
0.001) and HOMA IR (4.03 В± 1.39 vs. 1.98 В± 1.04, P 0.001) in NAFLD subjects

Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless
Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon
Krakauer sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places,
people and experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a
puzzling corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling.
Although Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact
with and experts from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead
man s life is trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common
connections such as similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at
a young age. Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled
by a reckless persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in
total isolation troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural
world. The mutual bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the
writing in the novel sincere enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound
authority and truth. Unconditional understanding through shared paternal issues, agitation of the
soul, and need for human contact grants Krakauer access to divulge into the conundrum of Chis
McCandless and authority to earnestly narrate the mysterious

Genteel People and Honest Hearts in Jane Austen s Emma...
Emma: Genteel People and Honest Hearts
In Emma, Jane Austen gives us only the surface of the lives of genteel people ? Though not
necessarily a commonly used term today, the meaning of genteel people is easily assumed. Good
birth and breeding are not necessarily the only qualities of genteel people: simple generosity,
courtesy and elegance can also apply, as well as marriage into the class. The majority of the
characters in Emma to some extent expand this definition to provide exceptions to the rule or abuses
of the title. In this way the characters provide an interesting answer to the question of whether or
not Austen actually deals with genteel people.

If she had been able to procure the necessary husband, there is no doubt that her gentility would
have become permanent. As it was, she married for love and the intimacy between her and Emma
must sink, that is, she has lost her albeit precarious hold on gentility.
Jane Fairfax is, at her introduction to the reader, in ready danger of slipping from the class that she
deserves through both breeding and character. Jane s orphaned status and increasing years mean
that if she does not find a suitable husband in the near future, a governor s position will soon be
beckoning. Fortunately for her, the engagement to Frank Churchill has secured Jane s position, as
he has genteel breeding and was brought up in the Churchill household a very prestigious claim.
Jane s position is almost the reverse of Mrs Weston nГ©e Taylor. The life of a governess was

Miss Taylor illustrate his social blindness when he cannot recognise the constant desire to further

Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business...
Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related
advantages and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are
commonly known globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as
Corporation. Looking at the Sole proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by
one person who is also the owner. This means that the owner has 100% control over the business.
This form of business organization is easy to establish since it needs very few legal requirements.
There is also no need of having partners or shareholders and the taxes paid in this business
organization is only on the income generated. That means that after paying the taxes, all remaining
profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this structure include less share of expertise
since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has unlimited liability for the debts and any
malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the
partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in the business structure. The
partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that intends to share any
commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the business as the
starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two and the
partners share the taxes. The disadvantages of this form of

Literary Analysis Of The Interlopers And The Machine That...
The Same Elements, the Different Feelings: A Comparison Between The Interlopers and The
Machine That Won the War. Have you ever read a story that reduced you to tears or genuinely
made you laugh out loud? Through the years, writers have utilized literary elements such as plot
twists, foreshadowing, and the three types of irony situational, dramatic, and verbal as well as
characterization, misdirection, and tone to play with the emotions of their readers. Today, we are
going to focus on plottwists, situational irony, and tone by exploring and analyzing two short
stories. The Machine That Won the War and The Interlopers are two short stories that employ plot
twists, situational irony, and tone to very different ends. Plot twist is used in The Machine That
Won the War; throughout the story, the three characters have been discussing Multivac, the
machine that won the war (1). Different characters reveal different pieces of information,
causing the reader to believe that men won the war or that a different machine was the true
victor (1). In the ending, Asimov surprises the reader by causing Swift to reveal that a simple
coin toss won the war not a machine at all (1). Swift is is dramatic in his revelation, taking his
dear sweet time explaining what machine won the war (1). Finally, he flips a coin and turns to his
companions, asking: Heads or tails, gentlemen? (1) As this is probably not what the reader is

Secondary school has been an unrelenting path. These four years of secondary school have had

Dangerous Minds, By The Name Of Gangsta s Paradise
Introduction
Dangerous Minds, a Hollywood film, is of a strong representation of how urban schools in the
heart of cities tend to deal with violence, disruption etc. on a daily basis. In the beginning of the
movie a song by the name of Gangsta s Paradise was playing while showing scenery of the graffiti
walls, poverty stricken streets, illegal activity along with much more going on in this
neighborhood. It is the will power of Ms. Johnson, former marine, to tech these kids right from
wrong and make them feel as if they can accomplish anything in life as long as they try and work
hard to their goals.
The Boys of Baraka begins in a similar manner. Taking place in Baltimore, Maryland, It illustrates
the heart of Baltimore and how rundown and unclean the streets are within this area. It shows kids
as young as 4 years old running through the streets, it shows teenagers are low education dancing in
the streets and acting as fools. Also gives a factual statistic that around 76% of boys in Baltimore
don t graduate. Many of the kids in which attend Dunbar Middle School , which has low graduation
rates, lower class students and leads to a sever disruptive learning environment. To help kids
escape areas such as this, a school in Kenya Africa is opening opportunities for students to get the
right education they need to further success in life away from drugs and violence and the streets.

The information in this section of the AoA website brings together a wide variety of statistical
information about this growing population. (Aging, 2013)
What types of legislation may or may not be affected by the aging population?
The two types of legislation that may or may not affect the aging population in the United States
are; The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the Health Care and Education
Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 respectively. Population aging may affect financial
markets if individuals tend to amass assets during their working years and spend them during
retirement. When there is a large cohort such as the baby boom, there may be more demand than
usual for corporate stock and other assets while the cohort saves for retirement. This demand for
corporate stock and other assets may abate after the cohort retires. (tonihansberry, 2012)
How does poverty affect the aging population?
Aging Americans, like other age groups, are feeling the effects of the declining real estate and
stock markets, as well as soaring fuel and food prices. Seniors economic security will only

Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf
In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in
Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values.
In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal
in everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from
civilization. Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no
laws either, no, up on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself,
ruling his wives and children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek
society family and community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants
nothing to do with the others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among
humanity. Additionally, the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey
was written in the 8th century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the
popular form of government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast
to this form of politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with
anyone but their own families. Their governmental actions stray far from the Greeks public
standards. Perhaps the largest difference between the Cyclops and any other Greek citizen though,
is their religious difference. The Cyclops boasts to Odysseus, We Cyclops

Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, We are not makers of history. We are made by history. History
plays a part in who we are as people, configuring us through our thoughts and actions. Such an
idea of history s importance in the building of one s character manifests in the movie Smoke
Signals. In Smoke Signals, author Sherman Alexie uses literary devices such as costumes,
flashbacks, a detailed narrative, and other devices to create two distinct characters, Victor Joseph
and Thomas Builds The Fire, that symbolize a clash between Native American culture and
modern society through the theme of storytelling. Victor Joseph s portrayal of the classic Native
American man is exemplified by Alexie s use of dialogue, costumes, and flashbacks. For example,
when Victor sees Thomas smiling as they ride their way to Arizona he says, Indians ain t supposed
to smile like that. Get stoic (Smoke Signals). This example of dialogue reveals how Victor believes
a Native American man should presenthimself traditionally, which strongly contrasts with
Thomas s demeanor and appearance. Victor continues on, saying, Look at your hair, it s all
braided up and stuff. You gotta free it. An Indian man ain t nothing without his hair. (Smoke
Signals). Hair design is used to symbolize Victor s close ties with his ancestral past as a Native
American. Additionally, Victor s comment on hair foreshadows when Victor himself cuts his hair,
symbolizing a moment in which Victor embraces his traumatic past by accepting who he is as a
person. In a more literal sense, flashbacks are also used to symbolize the trauma that Victor
experienced in his direct past living with an alcoholic father, Arnold Joseph, who abandoned him.
However, by the end of the movie, Victor embraces this past through the spreading of his father s
ashes. On the other hand, Thomas Builds The Fire symbolizes an embrace of the present and future,
as demonstrated by Alexie s use of oral traditions, costumes, and allegories. For instance, Thomas
represents the future through his uplifting storytelling. Thomas, similarly to Victor, experienced
trauma in his childhood, but it is made obvious that the two are practically opposites. To cope with
the past, Thomas uses oral

Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design
Riordan Manufacturing Supply Chain Design
Shante Moore
University of Phoenix/OPS 571
Introduction
Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer and industry leader in the field of plastic
injection molding with locations in Georgia, Michigan, California, and their most current expansion
in 2000 to Hangzhou, China. The plant located in China manufactures fans using a make to stock
operation that uses a forecasting method to determine future demand. A review of their strategic
capacity planning and lean production for their new process design and supply chain process for
the electric fans will address bottleneck and supply chain issues. Also outlined are the details of
new processes and how the benefit the company. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An issue arises when periodic an order for fans against the contracted yearly total is received
randomly and at varying quantities throughout the year. This makes it difficult for the plant to
stock materials required in the short term. Another problem is the company supplying the motors
for the fans. Their on time delivery rate is only 93%. This leads to a bottleneck in manufacturing.
A solution for these problems is to implement an effective ordering system or process. In order to
improve the 7% lag time a second motor supplier could be used to fill the gap. There should be a
maximum amount of units per month, and a specified date the units are needed. For custom orders,
a specific date or deadline should be a requirement and included in the contract. Setting these
specific guidelines in the plants ordering system will improve the 7% lag time in deliveries.
Lean Production
When the bottlenecks in a process are exposed there is a strong correlation between a strategic
capacity plan and lean production. When Riordan implements a new process, lean production can
be achieved. More can be accomplished efficiently in less time due to a continuous production
flow (Kotelnikov, V., n.d.). The new ordering system will allow for all products needed to be
available just in time to begin production. Eventually, as a more specialized cross functional

Department services are on the same instance of Electronic Health Record(EHR). Implementation
of the EHR began in 2010, with Advanced Life Support entities. In 2013 the EHR vendor added a
feature called Health Data Exchange (HDE) as an option. This feature allows bi directional flow of

One reason that Providence won this award is the fact that they have a single instance of Epic
installed system wide. It should be noted that Providence and Swedish, although merged, do
operate on two different instances of Epic EHR. In order to transition to a single instance of Epic
the cost would be $30 million, compared to a $500,000 interface that connects the two systems (E.
Cooper, personal communication, May 23, 2016).
Proposal
McDonald (1997) points out that health care data is siloed in multiple areas that are inaccessible
to others. This kind of management of patient data does not serve the patient well. It is for this
reason that SCEMS approached Providence and Swedish hospitals to propose implementation of
HDE. Moreover, as stated in the McDonald article a feasible way to integrate data from disparate
sources is through the use of interfaces such as the HDE. In addition, a problem that exists in the
integration of these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the
standard HL7 language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the
HDE structure accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different
languages. With this in mind, SCEMS requested a meeting with members of the Providence and
Swedish teams in order to propose implementation of HDE (E. Cooper, personal communication,

Portrait Of Andouins And Her Daughter By Sofonisba Anguissola
Portrait of Diane d Andouins and her daughter by Sofonisba Anguissola
Small Biography
Sofonisba Anguissola was born into a noble family in Cremona, Lombardy in 1532. Her status
allowed her, as well as her other five sisters, to obtain a well rounded education, which included
fine arts. In her teenage years she was the apprentice of Bernardino Gatti and Bernardino Campi,
they taught her mostly about portraiture and helped her develop her style that she would use for
self portraits. In 1554, she travelled to Rome, there she became the apprentice of Michelangelo,
one of the most famous Renaissance figures in history. Later she travelled to Milan and painted
the Duke of Alba, Elizabeth of Valois, and the queen of Philip II of Spain, who made her... Show

The Portrait of Diane d Andouins and her daughter represent how individualism was being
demonstrated through individual portraits. Diane d Andouins was known for her intellectuality
and cultured mind but above all else, her beauty. This painting portraying her and her daughter is
an example of how the wealthy viewed themselves as individual beings, having virtue that was
non related to God. Is also known that the humanism ideologies affected Sofonisba Anguissola s
work and life as she learned classical Latin and all her portraits that were commissioned by the
royalty and the wealthy were secular in nature and used by her patrons to glorify their names. A
perfect example is this realistic styled painting as it is the only portrait of Diane d Andouins and her

Examine the ways in which Shakespeare makes dramatic use...
Examine the ways in which Shakespeare makes dramatic use of deception and trickery in The
Tempest. In your answer you should also make connections to scenes 3:2 and 3:3 of Doctor Faustus.
Deception is defined as the act of deceiving someone and tricky is the practice of deception.
Shakespeare s The Tempest uses deception in the themes of power through his magic and control,
even if this involves betraying his adored daughter, Miranda. However, in comparison to Marlowe s
Dr Faustus , deception has more negative connotions which involve cruelty, particularly in 3:2, with
the treatment of the Pope, whereas Shakespeare focuses more on the positive outcomes that may
occur from attempting to control and trick people, with the constant ... Show more content on

Magic gives Prospero incredible power which he uses to his advantage, even though Ariel is one
of Prospero s most trusted and loyal friends, Prospero does not fil to mention the time Sycorax
deceived Ariel by locking him the tree and freeing him, therefore Ariel has been in Prospero s
debt for a long time, which is similar to Marlowe s Dr. Faustus, in which Faustus is in the devil s
debt in return for power as he soons has to give away his soul, therefore the theme of trickery is
common as Prospero blackmails Ariel into being his servant, Imprisoned thou didst painfully
remain a dozen years .
On the other hand, the Shakespearean audience may have felt like at this time, Prospero was the
deceiver as he comitted treason by choosing to practice magic on purpose, therefore the audience
may blame Prospero instead of Antonio. Antonio simply took advantage of the situation and took
over power as Prospero was too power conscious. Nevertheless Prospero s purpose is to bring his
dukedom back together, alongside his people and restore justice, which are incredibly dissimilar to
Antionio, Trinculo s and Stephano s motives who are simply greedy and materialistic. Prospero
plainly wants to teach Alonso and Antonio a lesson. The storm comes to a halt and nobody is hurt,

Depending on Horseshoe Crabs and Bait for Nutrition
Recently, various user groups have relied on horseshoe crabs for bait and nutrition. While concerns
have arisen that the horseshoe crab populations are declining, management of the American species
of horseshoe crabs has been surrounded by controversy (Davis et al., 2006). Historically,
horseshoe crabs have been considered a trash fish , not worthy of resources to establish their
population data. As a result, reporting regulations and harvest restrictions associated with this
fishery have been lacking (Baker et al., 2004).
Catch records for the Limulus commercial fishery in the Delaware Bay declined from 4 million
horseshoe crabs per year to less than 100,000 between the 1870s and the 1960s (Shuster and
Botton, 1985). It wasn t until the second half of the 20th century that a commercial fishery on
horseshoe crabs developed to provide bait for use in catching eel (Anguilla rostrada) and whelk
(Busycon spp.) (Ferrari and Targett, 2003). The horseshoe crabcommercial fishery has increased
dramatically beginning in 1990 (Berkson and Shuster, 1999). A variety of methods are employed
by fishermen to capture horseshoe crabs: trawls, dredges, hands, and gillnets (Berkson and Shuster,
1999). Entire beaches covered in horseshoe crabs can easily be harvested by hand since these
animals have essentially no defense mechanism (Berkson and Shuster, 1999). Overall, one million
Limulus were landed on the Atlantic coastline between 1989 and 1992. This number grew to over
two million by

Analysis Of The Movie Wit
Wit: a movie review Roger Ebert described Wit as a movie that hurts too much (Ebert, 2008), and
I have to agree. From the first scene, Dr. Vivian Bearing is a character that draws me in. The
preciseness of her speech demands respect and her matter of fact observations vividly display
the irony of her situation, adding humor to a subject that would seem impossible. The doctors,
in their own form of precise speech, manage to strip all humanity from practicing medicine;
making it clear that their intentions were on advancing the science rather than helping the
patient. While Bearing told the audience the truth of how she was feeling and what her
thoughts were, she gave the doctors the answers they wanted to hear, and in doing so, she gave
up the ability to have a peaceful death. It makes one wonder, how often do we know the truth
from the patient s perspective? Nurse Susie both inspired and discouraged me. I was inspired by
her dedication to adhere to her patient s wishes; but I was discouraged by her lack of ability to do
so. Early in the movie, she seemed to have reservations about the plan of treatment but did not have
a voice in altering it. As the treatments progressed with no improvement, we saw that Nurse Susie
was unable to convince either the patient or the doctors on what was in Dr. Bearings best interest.
She correctly understood how her patient was doing but no one listened. In the end, neither the
patient nor the doctors got what they hoped for. In a recent study,

Criminal Justice Systems Paper
Criminal Justice System Paper The criminal justice system and the criminal justice process has
shaped the laws of this country into what they are today from the concerns of politicians and
government leaders as far back as the 1800s with crime control. Basically, the criminal justice
system was designed to ensure the safety of individuals whom are citizens of this country.
Essentially, the criminal justicesystem is the structural basis used to maintain social control
(Education Decisions, 2010). The criminal justice system has many components that work
together to provide justice for criminals and victims of crimes. This enables violators of the law to
be prosecuted in a fair trial. The legal definition of a crimeis a wrong doing... Show more content on

An example of a felony committed would be an individual convicted of murder, rape, robbery, or
larceny. Misdemeanors are criminal offenses that are less serious than felonies and are generally
punishable by fines, jail terms of up to a year, or both. (West s Encyclopedia, 2010). An example
of a misdemeanor would be for an individual to be convicted of a traffic violation or jaywalking.
Infractions are the least serious of crimes. Infractions are not punishable by imprisonment. A
person charged with an infraction is not entitled to a trial by jury (California Penal Code, 2010).
Instead, infractions are punishable by monetary fines or restitution amounts. An example of an
infraction would be an individual given a speeding ticket or a ticket for running a red light. As one
can see, the criminal justice system and the laws set in place are about maintaining social order and
control.
Components of the Criminal Justice System The criminal justice system consists of various
components of law enforcement agencies. Such law enforcement agencies include local police
departments, criminal courts, and correctional facilities. The duties of a local police department
should include enforcing the law, investigating crimes, apprehending offenders, serving and
protecting individuals, and maintaining public order. Identifying various functions that are done

Industrialization Of The Second Industrial Revolution
The Second Industrial Revolution, which reached its peak during 1870 to 1914, marked a
significant turning point in American history. Before this era of progression and industrial
excellence, America was on the verge of expansion like never before. From the vast amounts of
land gained through the Annexation of Texas in 1845, the British retreating from Oregon in 1846,
and the Mexican cession of Southwest territory guaranteed by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of
1848, (Engelman) America was able to expand their territory and access new resources.
Industrialization and factory growth in the North was just budding and beginning to create
economic success, along with spurring a rise of urbanization and migration of foreign workers to

Other plentiful resources include coal, iron, oil, and ore (Pacheco). The utilization of these
resources led to a variety of new inventions. Using iron, one valuable invention that was created to
make agriculture more efficient was the iron bladed plow, created by Jethro Wood in 1819, that
could plow through all types of fields (Alchin). Perhaps the most important advancement was the
development of railroads, such as between 1863 and 1869 when the first transcontinental railroad
was built using iron. This railroad linked the east and west the Atlantic to the Pacific which was a
true phenomenon during this time (Alchin). Both these revolutionary creations, the bladed plow
and the transcontinental railroad, among many others, allowed the economy to prosper, due to the
use of the natural resources. The railroad increased efficiency and wealth for citizens nationwide,
as this opened up new markets for farmers, industrialists, and bankers who could now bring crops
and cotton from the Mississippi River Valley, wheat in the Midwest, and manufactured goods in
upstate New York into a global market based on credit (Engelman). Another significant reason why
our economy prospered during this revolution was the expanding labor force available to work in
factories to mass produce products. The opportunity to work in industrial factories attracted millions
around the world, which lead to a population explosion within cities, as almost 11

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of White Privilege
In our world today, White privilege is an existing matter. White privilege can be defined as
advantages that assist white individuals in flourishing and gaining success. Privilege is in and of
itself a struggle to equality. The advantages in privilege display the inequality that is in our
society towards those who are not white. We as a society usually do not see the inequality in the
opportunity and quality of life amongst those of different races, and this results from the fact of
wealthy white counterparts being in control and in power since the birth of this nation. White
privilege is something most do not think about and is not fully identified in our daily lives. People

Most of our History has been consistently recorded by the winners (whites) and that those who
succeed and hold the most power can choose to recognize what they wish and cold shoulder the
minor and undesirable technicalities. With the ideology of white privilege, white men created the
domination of white privilege centuries ago particularly controlled by whites. White privileged men
established the approach of domination from their position and power of their skin tone, granting
them the authority in society. Although a great number of white Americans do not tediously rely
on these interest; they have been taking advantage of this privileges for numerous centuries. But
those who are not white have been declined in countless cases, whether from achieving a distinct

Genetic Diversity In America
Genetic diversity is the variation of heritable characteristics in genetic makeup present in a
population of the same species i.e. variation in the nucleotides, genes, chromosomes, or whole
genomes of organisms. The species with greater genetic diversity has a chance of long time
survival. Knowledge of diversity in a germplasm is very important for the improvement of crop
plants through breeding program (Hallauer and Miranda Filho 1988). Assessment of genetic
diversity is essential to understand the relationship among and within the landraces, as well as their
genetic structure. It is also valuable for setting priorities for genetic conservation, parental selection
and as a source of favorable traits.
(Ferriol, Pico et al. 2004) analysed 47 accessions of C. moschata featuring the morphological
characters which revealed considerable variability, comparable to that found in different C.
moschata centers of diversity. Molecular analysis through AFLP (amplified fragment length
polymorphism) markers which analyze neutral genetic diversity and SRAP (sequence related
amplified polymorphism) markers, which amplify gene regions both showed a genetic diversity in
accordance with the morphological variability. With both markers clustered the genotypes
according to their geographical origin: Central America, South America, and Spain, which
suggested the existence of two independent domestications in both American areas, and/or

The Kite Runner Is A Powerful Book Contrasting Selfishness...
The Kite Runner is a powerful book contrasting selfishness and selflessness. The book follows the
life of Amir, a character who experiences guilt and tragedy throughout his life. While growing up in
Kabul, Amir witnesses the imperfect and prejudice society in his country. Within an imperfect
society, there are many who are self invested, and among those, there are those who are selfless.
Characters Amir and Hassan possess selfish and selfless traits. The traits that these characters
possess are influenced by fear, victimization, and loyalty, ultimately leading them to inaction and
action.
Amir s selfishness is often channeled through his guilt and sense of fear. Although Amir
witnesses the tragic event that unfolds in front of his eyes, he immediately realizes that he fails
to prove his loyalty to Hassan. While staring down the alley, Amir realized that he had one last
chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step
into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and
accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end...I ran because I was a coward
(77). By witnessing what was happening in the alley, a sense of fear rushed over Amir, ultimately
leading to his decision of running away like a coward. By running away, Amir shows that he cares
more about himself in this situation than he does about Hassan. He has a fear of what will happen
to him if he intervenes, when

Essay on Jewish Perceptions of Jesus Christ
Jewish Perceptions of Jesus Christ
Christianity and Judaism are major world religions which, though they worship the same God, have
marked differences which have caused two thousand years of strife and animosity between the two
religions. In his book We Jews and Jesus, Samuel Sandmel likens the link between Judaism and
Christianity to a type of parent child relationship, saying, Early Christianity was a Judaism; within a
century after the death of Jesus it was a separate religion. It was critical of its parent, and hostile to
it, and elicited from its parent reciprocal criticism and hostility. 1 Opposing views of Jesus Christ

According to the Talmud, Jesus was actually an illegitimate child. In a passage narrated in the
Tract Kallah, 1b (18b), Rabbi Akibah says to Mary, Tell me, what kind of son is this of yours? to
which Mary responds, The day I was married I was having menstruation, and because of this my
husband left me. But an evil spirit came and slept with me and from this intercourse my son was
born to me. 3 The Talmud (the Babylonian Talmud in particular) refers to Jesus as Son of Stada
/Satda and Son of Pandera ; these titles are not used clearly, but it is evident that both are used in
reference to Jesus, and scholars have inferred their probable meanings. Sanhedrin 67a states that
The son of Stada was son of Pandera. Rab Chisa said: The husband was Stada, the lover Pandera.
. . his mother was Miriam, the women s hairdresser; as they would say. . . S tath da to her
husband ; S tath da means she was unfaithful or she proved faithless, and is obviously used in
reference to Mary s lack of faithfulness to her husband.4 According to this passage, Stada was Jesus
legal father (Mary s husband), and Pandera was his biological father, Mary s alleged lover. Stada is
also used as a nickname for Mary, again, in reference to her alleged infidelity. According to Jewish

The Effect of Enzymes on Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition
What is the function of enzymes in a living system?
Enzymes speed up metabolic reactions necessary for life. Without them certain vital processes
would not take place and the body would be unable to function.

beneficial to have enzymes work in very acidic environments?
In areas, like the stomach, that have a pH of two would benefit by having enzymes that function
well in acidic environments. An example of such an enzyme is pepsin.

Potassium permanganate used to titrate and determine the amount of decomposed hydrogen
peroxide.
Sulfuric acid was used to stop the reaction with catalase and hydrogen peroxide. It denatured the
enzyme (catalase) and halted the reaction so the amount of hydrogen peroxide decomposed could
be measured.
Before performing part D of the experiment, why was it necessary to establish a baseline?
The baseline is a control and shows the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide in the initial
sample.
You may have observed the reaction of naturally occurring catalase in tissue from either liver of
potato. Design an experiment to determine if the amount of catalase varies from tissue to tissue
(e.g. 200 g of liver compared to 200 g of potato).
Put the 100 g of potato in 1 petri dish and 100 g of liver in another petri dish. Then put equal
amounts of hydrogen peroxide for an equal period of time in both dishes. Drain the dishes and
titrate them with potassium permanganate simultaneously. The numbers can now be compared
using the steps in the sample calculation above in the lab report. In order to compare perform a
potassium permanganate titration on pure hydrogen peroxide.
Of the thousands of enzymes known, there is a family of enzymes called proteases that catalyze a
reaction of breaking down proteins. What do you think would happen if you added a protease to
your sample of catalase before proceeding with your experiment?
The catalase would be broken

  • 2. Comparing The Silk Road And Its Effect In China And The West 3. Describe the Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West. The Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West can be best described as the primary trade routes from China to Italy, specifically Rome. The name Silk Road would lead one to think it was simply a road traveled much like traveling from North Carolina to California using Interstate 40. The Silk Road was much more than that. The trade routes of the Silk Road had a great and long lasting effect on China and the West. The Silk Road began in about 114 BCE. It was the fabled trade links between East Asia and the West. The 5000 mile long network of caravan and sea routes stretched from Chang an to westernmost point of the Great Wall of China; then all the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and religions, syncretic philosophies, and various technologies, as well as diseases, also travelled along the Silk Road. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a means of carrying out cultural trade among the civilizations along its network. The Silk Road became its own demise as well. As luxury goods were exported from China throughout the world, the methods of production that had been kept secret in China came out too. Europeans began to develop manufacturing technics to emulate Chinese production. Europeans produced and manufactured the items only available from China and no longer need to import from China. By the sixteenth century, the Silk Road was no longer in use. In conclusion, the Silk Road connected the many cultures of the time. The Silk Road promoted education and invention as all the various items imported and exported traveled throughout the world. The development of the civilizations of the time grew and became more aware of the various political and economic was of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Cost Of Employees For Teleworking Majority of employees decide for teleworking mainly because of several benefits teleworking is offering. The first advantage is harmony of work and personal life. Employees have more free time they can spend with their children and family. Next advantage means higher flexibility as teleworkers may often chose the working hours and take the advantage for themselves. This allows them to choose the hours during which they are the most productive. Furthermore, teleworkers decreased everyday commutingto work saving their time, additional costs for travelling as well as stress (Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). In addition, not only employees benefit from teleworking. Company profits from teleworkers as well. Late research of the British Broadcasting Corporation showed savings of approximately 25 per cent. These savings are the results of decrease of bills in office space including heating, electricity (Loughran, 1998 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Implications for increased productivity, loyalty and overall quality of work have been found among teleworkers (Baruch, 2000). However, teleworking is accompanied by a range of negatives too. The most common of them is social segregation. An analysis from 1983 showed that 60 per cent of teleworkers in Great Britain considered social segregation to be the greatest drawback of teleworking (Huws, 1984 as quoted in Mann and Holdsworth, 2003). Presenteeism is regarded as another disadvantage of teleworking. Teleworkers are hardly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Don DeLillo s White Noise novel and Malcolm Gladwell s... Don DeLillo s novel, White Noise revolves around the life of Jack, a Hitler Studies scholar at College on the Hill. The characters within the novel all want to involve themselves with the events in an industrial American society. Jack and his fourth spouse, Babette are characterized by their love, fear of loss of life, and four seemingly civilized children. The family seeks to live in a society where the consumerism culture is highly influenced by media and companies. The characters consumerism culture becomes influenced by the dangers of the industrial chemical cloud that hangs over their lives. This essay explores the importance of honesty in the wake of a consumerism culture that is highly influenced by the media and companies as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jack is shown as one who is highly established in his field of work. Unfair influences of the consumerism culture are to blame for the Jack s outfits and his professional title. In addition, the fact that only highly valued tourist destinations do record significant tourist visits could have persuaded Murray to look closer into the value of the site, perhaps due to media influences on his ideology. Murray s skewed analysis of the important tourist attraction as a seemingly worthless facility deserves more thought in order to uncover the actual reasons behind the highly toured places. In general, worthless tourist destinations play host to just a handful of visitors who upon noticing the worthlessness would not want to return to the site. By contrast, the landmark might have attracted significant public investment for a reason. Murray s perception that no credible difference exists between superficial and deeper meaning of the barn is highly dependent on skewed external forces within the media. Similarly, DeLillo mocks neo modern human s inability to distinguish realism from the new Simulated Evacuation they are still battling over funds for (DeLillo 139). The Simulated Evacuation is arguably the most fascinating case showing the conflict between two opposing sides, but which could not be understood subjectively. The Simulated Evaluation is real occurrences, like the airborne incident, are employed in the preparations of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Effects Of Norm Violation On The Perception Of Power Investigation of the Effects of Norm Violation On the Perception of Power Power governs our society. A powerful person is one that has authority over others. This sense of authority relieves them of the restrictions a person of lesser power might face, allowing them to make and break rules. The four studies conducted in Breaking the Rules to Rise to Power: How Norm Violators Gain Power in the Eyes of Others by Gerben A. Van Kleef, Astrid C. Homan, Catrin Finkenauer, Seval Gu М€ndemir and Eftychia Stamkou, explores the concept of power and transgression. Such that if powerful people are expected to act against the norm, then acting against the norm should make people seem more powerful. The overall study focused on the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Van Kleef et al., 2011) The study examined the response of 25 females and 15 men with a mean age of 19.53 on two scales. The first scale was a 25 question questionnaire consisting of adjectives that described social impressions of power and norm violation, which was then rated on a scale from 1 to 7 with 1 being definitely not and 7 being definitely. The second scale asked participants to indicate the extent to which the power statements This person is influential ; . . . has a leadership position ; . . . is in charge of subordinates ; . . . enjoys considerable authority (Van Kleef et al., 2011), applied to the person depicted in the scenario. Results and Discussions Participants rated the actor that took the cup of coffee from the personnel with a higher norm violation score than the actor that went to the bathroom. This indicated that they recognized that the behavior of the actor that took the coffee cup was wrong. Despite that, the participants rated that actor to be more powerful than the actor that went to the bathroom on both scales. This gives the first evidence that violating the norm influences the perception of power (Van Kleef et al., 2011). Study 2: The Bookkeeper Study 2 employed a different type of norm violation to examine if the affects show in study 1 would repeat. One hundred and sixty nine participants of unspecified age and sex were asked to read a scenario about a bookkeeper that follows the rule and one that does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Carol Ann Duffy Valentine Examine the way Carol Ann Duffy presents relationships in Valentine . Refer to other poems about relationships in your answer. This essay will be exploring the use of language and imagery in the poem Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy to emphasise certain emotions within the text. This poem refers to the dark side of love and relationships several times, for example; Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips. This creates a different atmosphere to the stereotypical love poems, which are known for their mention of red roses and satin hearts. Although the title gives us an impression of a clichГ© filled poem, as we continue reading, the poem seems like more of a warning than an encouragement to involve oneself in relationships and commitment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of the detached word Lethal in the final stanza suggests that this is the core to the emotion of love, and the surface to the surrounding layers is red roses and satin hearts. We can compare Valentine to Sonnet 18 written by William Shakespeare and Sonnet 43 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Despite having to perhaps read more deeply into Sonnet 18 to understand its purpose, we can see from the first line; Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? that it is of a romantic genre. This line can also be linked to Romeo and Juliet perhaps suggesting that Shakespeare has emotional attachments to the message he is attempting to articulate, as he uses this motive in more than one of his pieces. Whilst the opening greets us with a warm welcome and the perception that it will continue to express a contented vibe, a turning point of But... is introduced. It then goes on to use immortality as a comparison to relationships, for example; Nor shall Death brag thou wander st in his shade. This mention of demise can also be associated with the plot of Romeo and Juliet supporting the point made earlier. Giving the inanimate object of Death a capital letter is a use of personification that proposes the idea to the reader that death is living, and it is always something to be feared. Sonnet 43 also grabs the reader s attention with a question that is later answered. The use of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Does The Time Traveler A Utopia Jennifer Vorel October 7, 2015 Dr. Hyde QHQ 1 When it Comes to a Utopia, Don t Get Your Hopes Up Is the futuristic society described by the Time Traveler a utopia? In The Time Machine written by H. G. Wells, the Time Traveler leaves 1895 during the Industrial Revolution in late Victorian England, and arrives in the year 802, 701 AD. The novel successfully shows that capitalism can logistically separate classes to the point where it is morally unfair. Wells is also supported by current events. Marxist communism on the other hand would place primary ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state, creating a classless society. • 9. Essay On Schizoaffective Schizophrenic or schizoaffective: A critical analysis of a popular press article A diagnosis of childhood onset schizophrenia (COS) is rare. Exactly how rare is unknown as the rate of prevalence has been reported from 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 40,00 (Sood Kattimani, 2008; Gochman, Miller, Rapaport, 2011). Regardless of the disorder s prevalence, witnessing a child battle the inner demons that are frightening even for adults is disturbing. The only distinguishing factor between COS and schizophrenia is age of onset. If individuals are 18 or younger when they display symptoms, they will be diagnosed with COS. When someone is so young at age of onset their disorder will be more severe and will have worse long term outcomes (Mash Wolfe, 2016). When a child is diagnosed with an uncommon disease like COS it is typically reported in the news. This is the case with Gianni Cristini who is haunted by scary voices and suicidal thoughts, and has been since he was younger than 4 years old. • 10. The Role Of The Transmission Of Knowledge Walter M. Miller... The role of the transmission of knowledge in Walter M. Miller s A Canticle for Leibowitz is vital for people to recall and study more of the past prior to the nuclear war. Our contemporary world understands the significance contained in past literacy and oral traditions to teach us our civilization s past, however, their current forms are not cherished by this generation due to technological advances. Even though the situations and settings in the world of Canticle for Leibowitz and the contemporary world differ, the use of each tradition remains alike even if one is cherished more than the other. More so, the transmission of knowledge in the form of literacy, in the novel, is most reliable for teaching about the past, while others (e.g. Simpletons) either view this form unfavorably or choose to abuse it for their own satisfaction. Oral traditions, as well in the novel, are less favorable to higher authorities of the Church due to its degree of reliability; yet, oral traditions can be instrumental for others to spread wonder and fear. The 21st centuryutilizes new forms of oral traditions through online media, and concern themselves less with literacy (e.g. books and newspapers). Literacy is a vital and cautionary form that instructs the monks and our contemporary world about man s past, however, literacy, outside of the Leibowitz abbey, is viewed as uninteresting and inferior; furthermore, literacy is a danger that can support our own biases rather than truth. Brian s Song Technology And Culture Analysis Exam #2: Brian s Song, Flow, and Culture In Television: Technology and Cultural Form , Williams labels flow as the defining characteristic of broadcasting, simultaneously as a technology and as a cultural form . TV broadcasting slowly expanded its straightforward approach to programming by developing a planned flow , tying programs into a larger goal of subtly goading audiences to stay tuned for other (sometimes related, sometimes not) programming. Brian s Song, maybe the most successful TV movie to come out in 1971 (along with Spielberg s Duel), is a prime example of a TV network both capitalizing on its existing base and inviting new audiences while at the same time promoting its own brand (ABC s still fairly new Monday Night Football... Brian s Song, while meaningful and groundbreaking (in regards to its impact on the future of made for TV movies), is just another notable side effect of networks acting as their own PR agents. The audience became so engaged with the film that they were willing to sit through several minutes of commercials, both MNF related and promoting other ABC programs, interspersed throughout the film just to see its conclusion. The consensual space wasn t created out of an actual want for positive representation, but out of necessity. Even in the 70s, it was impossible for a program to be a huge success with a limited audience. Brian s Song benefitted from its inclusion of female characters (however one dimensional) not only because they allowed straight male viewers to cry knowing they were crying over equally straight characters, but because it allowed women who weren t previously football fans to gain some interest. The family angle is another aspect of the consensual space, as families in this sense aren t limited by class or race, with black and white families alike being able to enjoy the film and be the target group for ads displayed for other family oriented shows. The machining of composites is always not preferred because of the structural disturbances generally occur due to damages caused by machining forces to the fiber matrix interfaces, which in turn leads to the reduction in the mechanical properties of composite as a whole. However machining is necessary in special situations where the dimensional tolerances are to be maintained very close in the case of the composites mating with the other components. The present work aims at identifying the better milling process parameters to obtain better finish across the machined surface with minimum damage. Cuban Missile Crisis Analysis The Cuban Missile Crisis, also known as the Missile Scare, was a 2 week period in October of 1962 that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union. Tension between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to be a period between 1945 until the collapse of the Soviet Unionin 1991. Intelligence gathered over the span of couple months all seemed to lead to the common conclusion that the Soviet s are installing offensive nuclear weapons that will be able to reach continental US in mainland Cuba. The initial spark seemed to be the awfully failed attempt to invade Cuba, also known as the Bay of Pigs invasion under the Kennedy administration, and the presence of American Jupiter Ballistic missiles in Turkey and Italy. What is interesting about the Cuban Missile crisisis how the Kennedy administration confronted the issue. The Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top military officials of the United States pushed for a full on invasion, which could trigger a world wide nuclear war. Kennedy wanted to avoid a full on confrontation, making him seem intelligent but weak . In the film, Thirteen Days, based off the memoir of Robert F. Kennedy, Thirteen Days, where Robert wrote about his point of view of the Cuban Missile Crisis, revealed how complex and mentally demanding it was to resolve and dissipate tensions with the Soviet Union without causing World War III. Photographic intelligence taken by a spy plane going over mainland Cuba revealed about 40 intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of reaching continental United States. There were 3 options; diplomatic talks and international pressure, a blockade, or a full on invasion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff pushed for a full on invasion, meanwhile the Kennedy s pushed for a less aggressive move. EXCOMM, the Executive Committee of the National Security Council composing of the NSC and key advisors the President hand picked, met in the White House during the crisis to discuss how to proceed on the issue. However, very limited data are available regarding the association of subclinical inflammation and insulin resistance with NAFLD in a prediabetic state. We, therefore, conducted the study to assess this relationship among this population. Methods: We studied a cross sectional analytical design of 140 [male/female, 77/63; age in years (ranges), 45 (25 68)] prediabetic subjects after confirming with 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by ultrasonic examination of the liver and divided into groups of without NAFLD (n = 63) and NAFLD (n = 77). All individuals underwent anthropometric and clinical examinations. • 28. Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common connections such as similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at a young age. Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled by a reckless persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in total isolation troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural world. The mutual bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the writing in the novel sincere enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound authority and truth. Unconditional understanding through shared paternal issues, agitation of the soul, and need for human contact grants Krakauer access to divulge into the conundrum of Chis McCandless and authority to earnestly narrate the mysterious ... Though not necessarily a commonly used term today, the meaning of genteel people is easily assumed. Good birth and breeding are not necessarily the only qualities of genteel people: simple generosity, courtesy and elegance can also apply, as well as marriage into the class. The majority of the characters in Emma to some extent expand this definition to provide exceptions to the rule or abuses of the title. In this way the characters provide an interesting answer to the question of whether or not Austen actually deals with genteel people. Mrs and Miss Bates are genteel people and of ... Jane s orphaned status and increasing years mean that if she does not find a suitable husband in the near future, a governor s position will soon be beckoning. Fortunately for her, the engagement to Frank Churchill has secured Jane s position, as he has genteel breeding and was brought up in the Churchill household a very prestigious claim. • 31. Legal Differences And The Legal Types Of A Business... Identify and describe the legal categories of a business organization contrasting tax related advantages and disadvantages. There are three main forms of business organizations that are commonly known globally; they include; Sole Proprietorship, Partnership as well as Corporation. Looking at the Sole proprietorship, it is conventionally known as a business run by one person who is also the owner. This means that the owner has 100% control over the business. This form of business organization is easy to establish since it needs very few legal requirements. There is also no need of having partners or shareholders and the taxes paid in this business organization is only on the income generated. That means that after paying the taxes, all remaining profits remains with the owner. Disadvantages of this structure include less share of expertise since the owner is the only partner. The owner also has unlimited liability for the debts and any malpractices which also includes bearing all maintenance costs (Beyer et al. 2010). For the partnership, it involves more than one player who is also involved in the business structure. The partners share all costs and profits after entering into an agreement that intends to share any commercial interests. The partners also contribute funds to start and operate the business as the starting capital. This means that there is a pool of experience and resources by the two and the partners share the taxes. Today, we are going to focus on plottwists, situational irony, and tone by exploring and analyzing two short stories. Plot twist is used in The Machine That Won the War; throughout the story, the three characters have been discussing Multivac, the machine that won the war (1). Different characters reveal different pieces of information, causing the reader to believe that men won the war or that a different machine was the true victor (1). In the ending, Asimov surprises the reader by causing Swift to reveal that a simple coin toss won the war not a machine at all (1). Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values. In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal in everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from civilization. Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no laws either, no, up on the mountain peaks they live in arching caverns each a law to himself, ruling his wives and children, not a care in the world for any neighbor (9.125 128) In ancient greek society family and community were heavily valued, however it seems that each Cyclops wants nothing to do with the others, revealing them as cultural outsiders who wouldn t be accepted among humanity. Additionally, the brutes have no meeting place for council, no laws either. The Odyssey was written in the 8th century BC, during the beginnings of Archaic Greece. City states were the popular form of government and communal decision making started to gain value. In stark contrast to this form of politics, the Cyclops made decisions for themselves, rarely communicating with anyone but their own families. Their governmental actions stray far from the Greeks public standards. Perhaps the largest difference between the Cyclops and any other Greek citizen though, is their religious difference. • 38. Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals As Martin Luther King Jr. said, We are not makers of history. We are made by history. History plays a part in who we are as people, configuring us through our thoughts and actions. Such an idea of history s importance in the building of one s character manifests in the movie Smoke Signals. In Smoke Signals, author Sherman Alexie uses literary devices such as costumes, flashbacks, a detailed narrative, and other devices to create two distinct characters, Victor Joseph and Thomas Builds The Fire, that symbolize a clash between Native American culture and modern society through the theme of storytelling. Victor Joseph s portrayal of the classic Native American man is exemplified by Alexie s use of dialogue, costumes, and flashbacks. For example, when Victor sees Thomas smiling as they ride their way to Arizona he says, Indians ain t supposed to smile like that. Get stoic (Smoke Signals). This example of dialogue reveals how Victor believes a Native American man should presenthimself traditionally, which strongly contrasts with Thomas s demeanor and appearance. Victor continues on, saying, Look at your hair, it s all braided up and stuff. You gotta free it. An Indian man ain t nothing without his hair. (Smoke Signals). Hair design is used to symbolize Victor s close ties with his ancestral past as a Native American. Additionally, Victor s comment on hair foreshadows when Victor himself cuts his hair, symbolizing a moment in which Victor embraces his traumatic past by accepting who he is as a person. In a more literal sense, flashbacks are also used to symbolize the trauma that Victor experienced in his direct past living with an alcoholic father, Arnold Joseph, who abandoned him. However, by the end of the movie, Victor embraces this past through the spreading of his father s ashes. On the other hand, Thomas Builds The Fire symbolizes an embrace of the present and future, as demonstrated by Alexie s use of oral traditions, costumes, and allegories. For instance, Thomas represents the future through his uplifting storytelling. Thomas, similarly to Victor, experienced trauma in his childhood, but it is made obvious that the two are practically opposites. To cope with the past, Thomas uses oral ... An issue arises when periodic an order for fans against the contracted yearly total is received randomly and at varying quantities throughout the year. This makes it difficult for the plant to stock materials required in the short term. Another problem is the company supplying the motors for the fans. Their on time delivery rate is only 93%. This leads to a bottleneck in manufacturing. A solution for these problems is to implement an effective ordering system or process. In order to improve the 7% lag time a second motor supplier could be used to fill the gap. There should be a maximum amount of units per month, and a specified date the units are needed. For custom orders, a specific date or deadline should be a requirement and included in the contract. Setting these specific guidelines in the plants ordering system will improve the 7% lag time in deliveries. Lean Production When the bottlenecks in a process are exposed there is a strong correlation between a strategic capacity plan and lean production. When Riordan implements a new process, lean production can be achieved. More can be accomplished efficiently in less time due to a continuous production flow (Kotelnikov, V., n.d.). The new ordering system will allow for all products needed to be available just in time to begin production. Eventually, as a more specialized cross functional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While concerns have arisen that the horseshoe crab populations are declining, management of the American species of horseshoe crabs has been surrounded by controversy (Davis et al., 2006). Historically, horseshoe crabs have been considered a trash fish , not worthy of resources to establish their population data. As a result, reporting regulations and harvest restrictions associated with this fishery have been lacking (Baker et al., 2004). Catch records for the Limulus commercial fishery in the Delaware Bay declined from 4 million horseshoe crabs per year to less than 100,000 between the 1870s and the 1960s (Shuster and Botton, 1985). The doctors, in their own form of precise speech, manage to strip all humanity from practicing medicine; making it clear that their intentions were on advancing the science rather than helping the patient. While Bearing told the audience the truth of how she was feeling and what her thoughts were, she gave the doctors the answers they wanted to hear, and in doing so, she gave up the ability to have a peaceful death. It makes one wonder, how often do we know the truth from the patient s perspective? Nurse Susie both inspired and discouraged me. • 49. Genetic Diversity In America Genetic diversity is the variation of heritable characteristics in genetic makeup present in a population of the same species i.e. variation in the nucleotides, genes, chromosomes, or whole genomes of organisms. The species with greater genetic diversity has a chance of long time survival. Knowledge of diversity in a germplasm is very important for the improvement of crop plants through breeding program (Hallauer and Miranda Filho 1988). Assessment of genetic diversity is essential to understand the relationship among and within the landraces, as well as their genetic structure. It is also valuable for setting priorities for genetic conservation, parental selection and as a source of favorable traits. (Ferriol, Pico et al. 2004) analysed 47 accessions of C. moschata featuring the morphological characters which revealed considerable variability, comparable to that found in different C. moschata centers of diversity. Molecular analysis through AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphism) markers which analyze neutral genetic diversity and SRAP (sequence related amplified polymorphism) markers, which amplify gene regions both showed a genetic diversity in accordance with the morphological variability. With both markers clustered the genotypes according to their geographical origin: Central America, South America, and Spain, which suggested the existence of two independent domestications in both American areas, and/or introgressions from related species. ... • 51. The Kite Runner Is A Powerful Book Contrasting Selfishness... The Kite Runner is a powerful book contrasting selfishness and selflessness. The book follows the life of Amir, a character who experiences guilt and tragedy throughout his life. While growing up in Kabul, Amir witnesses the imperfect and prejudice society in his country. Within an imperfect society, there are many who are self invested, and among those, there are those who are selfless. Characters Amir and Hassan possess selfish and selfless traits. The traits that these characters possess are influenced by fear, victimization, and loyalty, ultimately leading them to inaction and action. Amir s selfishness is often channeled through his guilt and sense of fear. Although Amir witnesses the tragic event that unfolds in front of his eyes, he immediately realizes that he fails to prove his loyalty to Hassan. While staring down the alley, Amir realized that he had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end...I ran because I was a coward (77). By witnessing what was happening in the alley, a sense of fear rushed over Amir, ultimately leading to his decision of running away like a coward. By running away, Amir shows that he cares more about himself in this situation than he does about Hassan. He has a fear of what will happen to him if he intervenes, when ... Essay on Jewish Perceptions of Jesus Christ Jewish Perceptions of Jesus Christ Christianity and Judaism are major world religions which, though they worship the same God, have marked differences which have caused two thousand years of strife and animosity between the two religions. In his book We Jews and Jesus, Samuel Sandmel likens the link between Judaism and Christianity to a type of parent child relationship, saying, Early Christianity was a Judaism; within a century after the death of Jesus it was a separate religion. It was critical of its parent, and hostile to it, and elicited from its parent reciprocal criticism and hostility. 1 Opposing views of Jesus Christ caused the initial rift between Judaism and Christianity and is the primary source of the tension between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Talmud, Jesus was actually an illegitimate child. In a passage narrated in the Tract Kallah, 1b (18b), Rabbi Akibah says to Mary, Tell me, what kind of son is this of yours? to which Mary responds, The day I was married I was having menstruation, and because of this my husband left me. But an evil spirit came and slept with me and from this intercourse my son was born to me. 3 The Talmud (the Babylonian Talmud in particular) refers to Jesus as Son of Stada /Satda and Son of Pandera ; these titles are not used clearly, but it is evident that both are used in reference to Jesus, and scholars have inferred their probable meanings. Sanhedrin 67a states that The son of Stada was son of Pandera. Rab Chisa said: The husband was Stada, the lover Pandera. . . his mother was Miriam, the women s hairdresser; as they would say. . . S tath da to her husband ; S tath da means she was unfaithful or she proved faithless, and is obviously used in reference to Mary s lack of faithfulness to her husband.4 According to this passage, Stada was Jesus legal father (Mary s husband), and Pandera was his biological father, Mary s alleged lover. Stada is also used as a nickname for Mary, again, in reference to her alleged infidelity. According to Jewish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Yuan period advances in medicine were made and the practice of Chinese medicine spread throughout the empire. Healers were even brought along on military campaigns as they expanded, techniques such as moxibustion, pulse diagnosis, acupuncture, and herbal mixtures and remedies spread westward. Wei Yilin, a physician that lived 1277 1347, invented a method for reducing dislocations under anesthesia. One Mongol physician named Hu Shihui wrote about how important a healthy diet is. • 54. The Effect of Enzymes on Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition What is the function of enzymes in a living system? Enzymes speed up metabolic reactions necessary for life. Without them certain vital processes would not take place and the body would be unable to function. Difference enzymes work better under different conditions. Where in a human body might it be beneficial to have enzymes work in very acidic environments? In areas, like the stomach, that have a pH of two would benefit by having enzymes that function well in acidic environments. An example of such an enzyme is pepsin. There is a large amount of catalase found in a human liver. Does the liver break down more hydrogen peroxide in the summer or winter? Explain your answer. More hydrogen peroxide will be broken down in the summer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Potassium permanganate used to titrate and determine the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide. Sulfuric acid was used to stop the reaction with catalase and hydrogen peroxide. It denatured the enzyme (catalase) and halted the reaction so the amount of hydrogen peroxide decomposed could be measured. Before performing part D of the experiment, why was it necessary to establish a baseline? The baseline is a control and shows the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide in the initial sample. You may have observed the reaction of naturally occurring catalase in tissue from either liver of potato. Design an experiment to determine if the amount of catalase varies from tissue to tissue (e.g. 200 g of liver compared to 200 g of potato). Put the 100 g of potato in 1 petri dish and 100 g of liver in another petri dish. Then put equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide for an equal period of time in both dishes. Drain the dishes and titrate them with potassium permanganate simultaneously. The numbers can now be compared using the steps in the sample calculation above in the lab report. In order to compare perform a potassium permanganate titration on pure hydrogen peroxide. Of the thousands of enzymes known, there is a family of enzymes called proteases that catalyze a reaction of breaking down proteins. What do you think would happen if you added a protease to your sample of catalase before proceeding with your experiment? The catalase would be broken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
