1962 that was a result of increasing tensions amongst the United States and the Soviet Union.
Tension between the US and the USSR is not new and is known as the Cold War, often stated to

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic disease commonly
associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and inflammation all features of insulin resistant syndrome.
However, very limited data are available regarding the association of subclinical inflammation and
insulin resistance with NAFLD in a prediabetic state. We, therefore, conducted the study to assess
this relationship among this population.
Methods: We studied a cross sectional analytical design of 140 [male/female, 77/63; age in years
(ranges), 45 (25 68)] prediabetic subjects after confirming with 75 g oral glucose tolerance test
(OGTT). The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by ultrasonic examination of the liver and divided into
groups of without NAFLD (n = 63) and NAFLD (n = 77). All individuals underwent anthropometric
and clinical examinations. Among laboratory investigations, serum glucose was estimated by
glucose oxidase method, serum lipid profile and liver enzymes were measured by the enzymatic
colorimetric method and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured by high performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC) technique. Serum insulin and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP)
were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) was calculated
by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA).
Results: There was significantly higher levels of hsCRP (2.82 В± 1.60 vs. 1.39 В± 0.66 mg/l, P

The two types of legislation that may or may not affect the aging population in the United States
are; The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and the Health Care and Education
Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 respectively. Population aging may affect financial
markets if individuals tend to amass assets during their working years and spend them during
retirement. When there is a large cohort such as the baby boom, there may be more demand than
usual for corporate stock and other assets while the cohort saves for retirement. This demand for
corporate stock and other assets may abate after the cohort retires. (tonihansberry, 2012)
How does poverty affect the aging population?
Aging Americans, like other age groups, are feeling the effects of the declining real estate and

Cultural Beliefs In The Odyssey By Beowulf
In The Odyssey, the Cyclops symbolizes cultural values straying from the norm of society, while in
Beowulf, Grendel symbolizes the consequences of not conforming to those values.
In The Odyssey, Homer uses the Cyclops to encapsulate values which are considered abnormal
in everyday society. The beasts are culturally, politically and religiously detached from
civilization. Homer describes the one eyed beasts, They have no meeting place for council, no

Analysis Of The Film Smoke Signals
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, We are not makers of history. We are made by history. History
plays a part in who we are as people, configuring us through our thoughts and actions. Such an
idea of history s importance in the building of one s character manifests in the movie Smoke
Signals. In Smoke Signals, author Sherman Alexie uses literary devices such as costumes,
flashbacks, a detailed narrative, and other devices to create two distinct characters, Victor Joseph
and Thomas Builds The Fire, that symbolize a clash between Native American culture and
modern society through the theme of storytelling. Victor Joseph s portrayal of the classic Native
American man is exemplified by Alexie s use of dialogue, costumes, and flashbacks. For example,
when Victor sees Thomas smiling as they ride their way to Arizona he says, Indians ain t supposed
to smile like that. Get stoic (Smoke Signals). This example of dialogue reveals how Victor believes
a Native American man should presenthimself traditionally, which strongly contrasts with
Thomas s demeanor and appearance. Victor continues on, saying, Look at your hair, it s all

Signals). Hair design is used to symbolize Victor s close ties with his ancestral past as a Native
American. Additionally, Victor s comment on hair foreshadows when Victor himself cuts his hair,
symbolizing a moment in which Victor embraces his traumatic past by accepting who he is as a
person. In a more literal sense, flashbacks are also used to symbolize the trauma that Victor
experienced in his direct past living with an alcoholic father, Arnold Joseph, who abandoned him.
However, by the end of the movie, Victor embraces this past through the spreading of his father s
ashes. On the other hand, Thomas Builds The Fire symbolizes an embrace of the present and future,
as demonstrated by Alexie s use of oral traditions, costumes, and allegories. For instance, Thomas
represents the future through his uplifting storytelling. Thomas, similarly to Victor, experienced
trauma in his childhood, but it is made obvious that the two are practically opposites. To cope with

An issue arises when periodic an order for fans against the contracted yearly total is received
randomly and at varying quantities throughout the year. This makes it difficult for the plant to
stock materials required in the short term. Another problem is the company supplying the motors
for the fans. Their on time delivery rate is only 93%. This leads to a bottleneck in manufacturing.
A solution for these problems is to implement an effective ordering system or process. In order to
improve the 7% lag time a second motor supplier could be used to fill the gap. There should be a
maximum amount of units per month, and a specified date the units are needed. For custom orders,
a specific date or deadline should be a requirement and included in the contract. Setting these
specific guidelines in the plants ordering system will improve the 7% lag time in deliveries.
Lean Production
When the bottlenecks in a process are exposed there is a strong correlation between a strategic
capacity plan and lean production. When Riordan implements a new process, lean production can
be achieved. More can be accomplished efficiently in less time due to a continuous production
flow (Kotelnikov, V., n.d.). The new ordering system will allow for all products needed to be

integration of these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the
standard HL7 language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the
HDE structure accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different

have arisen that the horseshoe crab populations are declining, management of the American species
of horseshoe crabs has been surrounded by controversy (Davis et al., 2006). Historically,
horseshoe crabs have been considered a trash fish , not worthy of resources to establish their
population data. As a result, reporting regulations and harvest restrictions associated with this
fishery have been lacking (Baker et al., 2004).
Catch records for the Limulus commercial fishery in the Delaware Bay declined from 4 million
horseshoe crabs per year to less than 100,000 between the 1870s and the 1960s (Shuster and
Botton, 1985). It wasn t until the second half of the 20th century that a commercial fishery on
horseshoe crabs developed to provide bait for use in catching eel (Anguilla rostrada) and whelk

I have to agree. From the first scene, Dr. Vivian Bearing is a character that draws me in. The
preciseness of her speech demands respect and her matter of fact observations vividly display
the irony of her situation, adding humor to a subject that would seem impossible. The doctors,
in their own form of precise speech, manage to strip all humanity from practicing medicine;
making it clear that their intentions were on advancing the science rather than helping the
patient. While Bearing told the audience the truth of how she was feeling and what her
thoughts were, she gave the doctors the answers they wanted to hear, and in doing so, she gave
up the ability to have a peaceful death. It makes one wonder, how often do we know the truth
from the patient s perspective? Nurse Susie both inspired and discouraged me. I was inspired by
her dedication to adhere to her patient s wishes; but I was discouraged by her lack of ability to do
so. Early in the movie, she seemed to have reservations about the plan of treatment but did not have
a voice in altering it. As the treatments progressed with no improvement, we saw that Nurse Susie
