Social Recovery
Sri Lanka is deeply committed to solving the post economic and social recovery conflict due to
its 26 year civil year war, as it devastated nearly 66% of the population of its Northern and Eastern
provinces. After the civil war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended in
May 2009, most aspects of life suffered ___ hundreds of thousands of people were displaced,
institutions disintegrated, and imperative irrigation schemes were in great need of repair. The
government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) is now experiencing colossal and extremely complex challenges
of reassembling marred or destroyed physical infrastructure, albeit the top priority of GOSL is to
guide the conflict affected population back to productive life and to establish a physically,
economically and socially sustainable environment for their recovery.... Show more content on

The government launched a number of reconstruction and rehabilitation activities such as leading
demining activities with the purpose of reducing High Security Zones (HSZ) and other programs
to implement new livelihood activities for resettled civilians. The GOSL exposes, The
government s priority has been the resettlement of the approximately 300,000 IDP s, while
ensuring that they are provided adequate shelter, food, security and livelihood support. To enable
the rural poor to improve their livelihood and quality of life, the government was able to establish
interim camps for all internally displaced people (IDP) after the war, including ex LTTE cadres.
All interim camps were provided with basic needs of the IDPs including food, shelter, medical

Essay about Review on President Development Center
President Development Centre or usually shortened as PDC is a facility prepared by President
University Education Foundation (PUEF) that as his name has shown, provides place for
people to develop themselves. This centre of development was started around four years ago,
with only five classes in one store and language lessons prepared for the students who want to
learn about languages. With twenty five tutors, a director and four employers (two staffs and
two office boys), PDC has developed quite a lot in its years, where PDC already has fifteen classes
in three stores and has nothing more than only languages lessons. The services now available
aside from language lessons are IT lessons, D1 for secretary and public relations, D3 for... Show

This package will be filled with lessons like business mathematics and accounting. It is being
planned to be available around next year for the President University students who are having
difficulties in their lectures. The employers in President Development Centre are quite interested in
this planning since they have been asked by the students, especially the freshmen about lesson
package for accounting.
President Development Centre would like to be one of the best and known training centres in
Indonesia that fulfils the need of companies and society in increasing the human resources quality
to be the educated, skilled and trained , as stated in its vision. And its mission is professional,
trusted and keep trying to be the best. That is why President Development Centre has many
students, whether they are from President University or the people from other places and other
cities who have heard about their quality.
PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT
President Development Centre uses principles of management to get to where it nature is right now
and to get it where it wants to be in the future. Those principles are Division of Work, Planning,
Controlling and Continuous Quality Improvement. The explanations below will explain further
about the principles of managements which have been mentioned before.
Division of Work means that works should be divided among the employees,

Media And Mass Media Deviance
Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of
mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news
media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017).
Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an
influence on deviant behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance
rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as
behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that
departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly
used amongst mass mediato entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent
social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there
wouldn t be any motive behind showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and
how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime
coverage. This consistent coverage of crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the
media. They can feel a part of the intensity of an investigation, cheer on the enforcers, become
immersed in their stereotypes. On the other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to
overcome and resist

Chris Givens Essay
Chris Givens was a middle school boy and he loved to play baseball. Chris lived and breathed
baseball. He would watch every game he could. Also, the only sport he played was baseball so he
was the best at it. However, there was one problem for Chris. He was not one the most popular
kids. Only the most popular kids were picked onto the school s baseballteam. Chris had tried to act
cool and even hang out with cool kids, but it never worked out. Even though Chris was not like
everyone on the baseball team he is determined to be the first kid to make the baseball who wasn
t popular. Saturday was the day of the try outs and Chris was the only one who wasn t involved
in a chat. First he tried out at the batting cages to hit. Every pitch the coach threw at Chris was
hit right back at him. Chris knew his hitting was the second best of his skills, so he knew he
could make the team if he was weak in the other skills. Then arrived to pitch, he struck out every
guy that came up to bat for practice. Chris also felt he was the most accurate pitcher there so his
hopes of making the team were still strong. However, his confidence broke down when he was
fielding. Every bouncer that came at him just wired right past him. He felt so embarrassed, but

Heyoka In Holy Clowns
The figure of holy clown is a vital spiritual character in the most Native American tribes. It is a
truly unique being that is endowed with absolutely contrary characteristics. Clowns behavior
can be silly, outrageous and even dangerous for the surrounding people, but nevertheless they are
important part of religious life of the community. Lame Deer take the reader into extraordinary
world of heyoka, a holy clown of Lakota Indians. His account let us better understand the
awesome spiritual character of heyoka, and see how clown is being transformed from the
profane fool to the most sacred figure. Heyoka is almost always a male. He acts foolishly and
makes people laugh, he can reverse the meaning of the words or speaks them backward, wear
clothes and shoes the wrong way, he builds his sweat lodge in opposite direction. But no matter
what he does, all his actions are considered sacred, for heyoka is endowed with a very powerful
energy, that is guiding his mischief. People know that this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

explained that the power that heyoka gets is coming from the wakinyan, the sacred
thunderbirds, that ..are part of the Great Spirit. Theirs is about the greatest power in the whole
universe (240). However, Native people can recognize the twofold aspect of this energy. The
thunder power protects and destroys, It is good and bad, as God is good and bad, as nature is

I Am A Pastor At A Church
Find your calling! Your mission! The one thing God has ordained for you to do for the rest of your
life! These were some of the words that I heard being preached to kids my age since I started going
to youth group in 7th grade. I heard these words, and I was excited. I was excited, but also nervous,
and scared, but hopeful at the same time: hopeful that one day I would find my calling for my life.
I would wonder my thoughts, thinking, what is my calling going to be? And where is it going to
take me? Am I going to be called to be a Pastor at a church? Is the church going to be small? Will it
be huge? Will it be far away? Or will I be called to be a missionary? Will I be called to go preach
the gospel to thousands of civilians in East Africa? Or will I just be called to be a one on one
counselor? Whatever it was, I couldn t wait for God to tell me what it was. A year or two went
by, and people all around me were receiving their calling. My sister was called into Worship
ministry, and my older brother was called to be a youth pastor. My friends were being called to
be missionaries, doctors, counselors, pastors, and all other sorts of things. And there I was, still
waiting to receive my calling. I thought, maybe I m just not ready for it: Maybe God s timing
hasn t come yet. I was born into my family as the middle child. I wasn t born as the take charge,
do it yourself, first born leader, like my oldest brother: or the spontaneous, outgoing, nosy princess,

Argumentative Essay On Fair Trade
Due to how poorly workers are treated, unions have started to be organized, though they are still
uncommon. People who are planing a union are almost always fired and added to a list that is
accessible to all the free trade zones. The woman interviewed is currently working in a free trade
factory. She was part of a union that was successful and was able to demand a medical clinic, a
person workers could go to with any problems, higher quality safety equipment, subsets for food
and transit, and was not required to work overtime. TheTrans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Currently
no workers have a say. I used to think fair tradewas a great concept, now I believe there are better
options, like direct tradeand whole trade. Though buying fair trade is still a better option than
supporting the free trade industry. My high school used to do a fair trade annual fundraiser, and
I learned about the positives of fair trade, but I never considered the negative aspects. Mike
Woodard, briefly touched upon fair trade. He stated that with a capitalist system, fair trade won t
really work. There are still middlemen who receive a large portion of the profit meaning even
though consumers pay more for fair trade, a lot is still not even reaching the workers. We visited
Selva Negra on our second weekend in Nicaragua. Selva Negra is a german styled mountain resort
that is completely sustainable and the coffee grown on the estate is sold whole trade. They sell a
majority of their coffee to Whole Foods Markets in the US and use the rest in their restaurant.
The tour guide mentioned that Whole Foods has guaranteed to buy a large portion of the coffee
produced each season. Because of this, Selva Negra business doesn t need to worry about
networking and finding multiple businesses to buy their coffee. In addition, because Selva Negra
is selling large quantities, they get a better price for their coffee. Mike Woodard spoke about direct
trade and the benefits. He said that when buying whole trade certified items, there is an assurance
of high quality. Another benefit he mentioned was that whole trade helps create and foster
relationships between buyers and sellers.

Essay on Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
III.Character Description
1.John the Savage
Thomas and Linda s son, John, is a scholar and resident of the savage reservation in New Mexico.
Despite not being introduced until Chapter 7, John is seen as the centralizing character of the
novel. Unlike the rest of his community, he is educated. When Lenina and Bernard come across
John during their trip, they soon realize John s biological father is the Director, Thomas. Once
reaffirming this, Bernard and Lenina offer to bring John and Linda back to the World State. Hoping
to connect better to the people in the World State, John gladly accepts. It was, however, to John s
misfortune to find out that either way, there was no escaping his isolation. In one scene, where John
takes Lenina home, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which in turn increased his sense of being alien and alone. A chronic fear of being slighted made
him avoid his equals, made him stand, where his inferiors were concerned, self consciously on his
dignity. How bitterly he envied men like Henry Foster and Benito Hoover! (65). It isn t until
Bernard gives John residence in his house, that he starts attracting the attention of everyone. Soon
after, Bernard personality becomes overbearing and Mustapha Mond, the ruler of the World State,
exiles him for non conformity. Throughout the novel, Bernard struggles to fit in as a normal Alpha
despite his stature. Bernard s strengths are his curiosity and intelligence, but his downfalls are his
instable mind and short temper.
3.Lenina
A young, beautiful and sexually liberated Beta, Lenina is a popular and promiscuous vaccination
worker at the Hatchery and Conditioning Centre. Unlike many of the underlining characters of
Brave New World, Lenina doesn t feel socially out of place. She, like the rest of society, copes with
unwanted emotions by taking Soma, participates in parties, and polygamy. One example of this in
the novel, occurs while Lenina converses with her friend, Fanny; And to tell the truth, said Lenina, I

The Theme Of Invisibility And Lack Of Identity In Ralph...
In the novel, Invisible Man the author Ralph Ellison developed a distinct theme of invisibility and
lack of identity. Ellison developed this theme throughout the novel; especially in the beginning,
Ellison was very plain spoken and grave about being invisible. The author never even revealed his
actual name, it must imply that he is not very confident and feels as if it does not matter. Ellison
also shows that he is at a loss of being sure in himself through his actions and how reacts to
problems. In the very beginning of the novel, the narrator simply states, I am an invisible man(1).
The author says the reason that he is invisible is because that ... people refuse to see me (1).
Ellison gives an example of how he is invisible,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the very beginning, he states that he lives in a hole, ... I found a home or a hole in the
ground... (6). With no name and no place to live, but a hole he has very low sense of which he is
and lacks dignity. It seemed throughout the novel the narrator had more respect for whoever
told him what to do than himself. He depended on everyone else but himself, All my life I had
been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I was
looking for myself and asking everyone but myself... It took me a long time and much painful
boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization... That I am nobody but myself (15).
In college, he was chauffeuring one of the college s founders and his name was Mr. Norton, and
he tells the narrator that he had a hand in his destiny. Mr. Norton had felt that, ... your people
were somehow connected with my destiny. That what would happen to you was connected with
what would happen to me (41). What he is saying gives the narrator hope, but he is meek and
uncertain of his words. Granted that if he was sure of himself and had his own identity, he would
have felt very confident in what Mr. Norton was saying to him. Perhaps even agree or disagree,
instead of shying away from his

Why Is Art Is A Terrible Thing And Should Not Exist
People have drastically different opinions on the use of artistry in writing. Plato for one,
believes that art is a terrible thing and should not exist because of its illusions. On the other
hand, Patricia Smith uses it to, create the desired impact or slam home a salient point. Smith did
this by making up people and their stories and writing quotes from them as if they were real.
Smith s case is an example of why Plato was intent on the end of artistry. Some artists use qualities
of writing meant for fiction in their nonfiction accounts. When they are discovered for breaking
the rules of being a writer, they lose things like their jobs and credibility. Just like Patricia Smith,
BartolomГ© de Las Casas wrote in a way that is unethical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is because according to an article from the Smithsonian magazine, Las Casas made a major
calculation error, Some scholars estimate the Taino population may have reached more than 3
million on Hispaniola alone as the 15th century grew to a close (Poole). His information does not
line up and is misleading in this section as well as when he portrays the Indians like docile
people who are, Never quarrelsome or belligerent or boisterous, they harbour no grudges and do
not seek to settle old scores; indeed the notions of revenge, rancour, and hatred are quite foreign
to them (Las Casas 10). While it is probable that many of the natives fit this description, it is also
likely that many did not. This is a generalization that would cause the audience to have incorrect
pre assumed ideas about Indians living in Latin America. Many parts of the Stearns and
Smithsonian articles show the Aztec empire as a strong one which had conquered lots of land, the
Indian peoples and cultures were more resilient (Stearns). Another accusation was that Since what
a European will consume in a single day normally supports three native house holds of ten
persons each for a whole month (Las Casas 14).This just sounds wrong reading it, and it would be
rather ignorant for anyone to assume this was possible. On a normal diet for a Native person, this
would imply that a European ate 1,800,000

There are people at different ages shop every day, either online or in a store. People shop not only
for living essentials, but also for their needs in the society. Teens, too, shop for their reputation and
shop whenever they can. Drew Desilver, a senior writer at the Pew Research Center, stated that
almost eighty percent of American teens shop online, but almost eighty percent of the American
teens prefer to shop in stores (Desilver). There are many reasons why teenagers shop online even
though they prefer to shop in stores, but it is mainly due to the advance of technology in
advertisements, time saving, and teens purchasing power. Technology has become the daily basic

Famous websites, such as Amazon and eBay help many teenagers to look for what they need
within a few seconds. Websites like google can help them to find items at a relatively lower cost,
too. This saves a lot of time because they do not need to compare different costs at different
locations for something they want to buy. This is especially critical for teens these years because
they re more cautious with their cash than in previous years (Smith 4). Although people may
prefer to shop in stores, they usually cannot find enough time to do so. It is particularly true for
teens who do not have driver licenses or other transportation methods and consequently have to
go with an adult only when the adults have free time. Furthermore, students can buy things in
seconds in special online programs such as Amazon s 1 Click Checkout and get it shipped
before they need to use it for school. They do not have to look for class material in the bookstore
when it is crowded in the beginning of the school year and have to wait for a long line. The last
reason that teens tend to shop online instead of shopping in stores even if they favor to do the
second is because of their purchasing power. As suggested by POPAI, while the tweens drive
demand, parents are the real buyers (Smith 5). There are many things that teens want, but since
many teenagers do not have jobs, the most reasonable source of their purchasing

Sociological Imagination And Social Identity
Presumptions, based on names, alter individuals social identities and can be explained through their
relations with the main branches of sociological imagination: biography and history. Through the
analysis of sociological imagination and its two primary components, the impact of influential
forces is distinguishable in the investigation of how and why individuals perceive one another
through the assumption of each other s names. Indeed, historical and social forces affect wavering
attitudes about gender and names. Due to those forces and societal expectations, names spur
assumptions about a stranger s social identity even before confrontation with that person. Through
inquiry of history and biography s significance on individuals, sociological... Show more content on

In furtherance, the sociology of gender analyzes how those forces manipulate the perception of the
differences between masculinity and femininity, whereas the sociology of names examines how
those same forces influence presumptions on people based on their appellations. Essentially,
cultural expectations are attached to which gender a person has. In its intertwined relationship with
names, gender explicates how culture presently links the suffixes a to be with female names and o
to be with male names. In regards to sociological imagination s concept of history, origins of names
may date back to previous generations, which permits present suppositions of race, ethics, and
beliefs. Concerning social forces and the concept of biography, both expectations based on gender
and assumptions based on names are shaped by social interactions with family members, friends,
and strangers. Ultimately, the historical force of cultural expectations and the social force of
presumptions account for the social identities of gender and names attributes that mold people s
perceptions of each other within their

Highly Sensitive Research Paper
A highly sensitive person has high sensitivity to the world around them. High sensitivity, also
called sensory processing sensitivity, is a completely normal trait that affects between 15 to 20% of
the population, or 1.4 billion people, according to experts on the subject.
People can have a lot of success despite being highly stimulated by the world around them. For
example, Alanis Morissette has openly talked about how she is a highly sensitive person and often
felt misunderstood and misperceived, but that hasn t stopped her from doing some great things in
this world.
It s interesting that being highly sensitive is not limited to humans. Biologists have discovered this
trait in over 100 species, including dogs, horses, and even birds.
We tend to use the term highly sensitive person as a bad label for someone. For instance, we might

They See And Feel The Beauty In Life More Intensely
Many people who are highly sensitive have an appreciation for music, art, love, and joy that people
who are not don t feel. The thought of something beautiful, like true love, can bring tears to their
eyes and resonate deeply into their soul.
People who are highly sensitive find that they are moved by the beauty of nature. The trees, the
mountains, the rivers, the oceans, and the animals in nature all touch a chord in them that makes
them feel love, peace, and gratitude more intensity.
Moreover, they notice the subtle things in life more, such as the little flower that goes unnoticed by
other people. They cherish those little things, and they are the people who inspire others to stop and
smell the roses!
4. They Have Deeper Conversations And Interactions With Others
People who are highly sensitive find it easier to talk about important things. They may not find
small talk, such as the weather, that important. But, when they hear about something that has some
deeper meaning about life, love, or emotions, they are more likely to participate in the

Have you ever wondered how London and all the beautiful buildings in London came to be?
Beginning with the main history of London, continuing with famous buildings and ending with
famous people from London, this paper will explain some of London s very interesting history.
The name of London came from the Celtic word Londinios, which means the place of the bold one

Christianity was introduced to the city, but some inhabitants were starting to leave from the city
because they did not wanted to be part of this religion ( Cody). Although this was the beginning of

Reasons For Reimbursement
The current method for reimbursement is not adequate for ensuring cost effective services and
technology. There are five reasons for this inadequacy.4 Firstly, the health outcomes are improved
by new technology on average, but this is not applicable to every technology .Secondly, many new
technologies are characterized by ineffectiveness and redundancy and the problem is worsened as it
is not easy to distinguish between effective technologies and ineffective technologies when they are
first introduced. Thirdly, new technologies generally increase healthcare costs even though several
technologies might reduce costs through the replacement of more expensive alternatives or the
prevention of expensive health repercussions. Fourth, the inappropriate

Identity and its Underlying Context in Historical Events
As we grow new understandings and opinions form, creating a unique viewpoint of the world that
is ever changing. My personal viewpoint may be much different than those of the people I grew
up with due to different experiences and family backgrounds that have helped to form my identity.
As people, we have inherent biased towards our own views of how the world works based on our
identity, place and the histories we have been taught. We only gain a clearer understandingof the
world when we open up and actively attempt to view the world from another perspective. This
process can, and often will, lead to some uncomfortable and disheartening experiences, but it

Prior to asking my mother, some of my friends asked if I truly wanted to know the answer to this

responsibility of this knowledge, but I also understood that asking the question was either going to

Analyzing Saki s Short Story The Interlopers
Interlopers Essay Imagen you are pinned down by a tree. Your greatest enemy is laying face to

in mind when he wrote the short story, The Interlopers. The short story has many turns through
the whole story to get the readers on their feet and guessing what s going to happen to the men.
He has many ways of creating mysteries in a story. One technique he uses is suspense. He keeps
the reader guessing about what s going to happen to the men. Will both men die? Will one man
take over the other man s army? Will both men make it out of the forest alive? He wants you to
keep creating questions in your mind so you never really know what s going to happen next. The
two enemies stood glaring at one another for a long silent moment. Each had a rife in his hand,
each had hate in his heart and murder uppermost in his mind. (2) This makes a reader question if

Symbolism In William Jennings Bryan s The Wonderful...
During the late 1800 s, a pervasive sense of melancholy permeated throughout the forgotten, dreary
Midwestern United States. While the industrial revolution boosted the economy on the coasts,
Midwestern farmers were victims of deflationary debt increases, exorbitant shipping and railroad
rates, a high protective tariff, and a government that for the most part ignored them.1 Desperate
circumstances moved the everyday American farmers to join together and voice their grievances.
Instead of seeking federal aid or economic relief, they attempted to use the power of the ballot to
achieve their goals.1 The united group of farmers used the Populist Partyas a springboard to launch
their complaints and eventually got their candidate, William Jennings Bryan, nominated for the
presidential election of 1896 by the Democratic Party. L. Frank Baum, a newspaper writer who
lived in a small prairie town in South Dakota, experienced the populist wave firsthand, attending
Bryan s famous Cross of Gold speech in Chicago, and subtly incorporated many aspects of Bryan s
campaign into his children s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.2 Despite his own claim that this
novel was written solely for the entertainment of the children of today , several historians have
discovered that the book clearly reflects the culture of the time period in which it was written.3 By
symbolically representing the struggles of the everyday working man, Bryan s political enemies,
and the campaign for free silver, Baum

The Controversy About Water Baptism
Baptism is one of the most important steps in a Christian s life. It is a symbol of a commitment
to follow Jesus Christ along with a public confession of Christ in one s life. Baptism represents
an internal death to self and a union with Christ and his death and resurrection. It means a dying
to the old self and living a new life in Christ. It s an internal certainty that is tied to an external
symbol of water. However Baptism is more than a symbol, it s a promise of a complete change of
life from a sinful person to a life of salvation and grace. Today we will celebrate the union of John
with the Lord JesusChrist. The baptism of John serves as an outward symbol of commitment and
obedience to Christ.

Because of this, Rome became allies with Egypt. When the time came for the triumvirate to be
renewed (37 BC), Lepidus was removed from the group. In 32 BC, Mark Antony divorced
Octavia, Augustus sister. Augustus was furious because of this and declared war between Egypt.
Mark Antony and Cleopatra ended up running away together and eventually committed suicide.
Augustus was the only man in the Second Triumvirate still standing, so he gained the full power.
Augustus became the first emperor of Rome in 27 BC. During the time he served as emperor, he
doubled the size of Rome, secured alliances, created the postal system, added more roads, and
added fire and police departments. Between Augustus work as triumvirate member and emperor, he

Green Business Changes The Principles, Policies, And...
Introduction Going Green is considered to be a new trend that some companies are pushing
towards. Green business changes the principles, policies, and practices that will help improve
the quality of life for customers, employees, and the communities. Companies are starting to find
different ways like document handling, recycling, or becoming more energy efficient in order
to be sustainable and to avoid any further damage towards the environment. Based on an article

World Aging Population
The ageing of global population is an important issue that has been debated recently. To think
about a better and longer life seems too attractive for us, but the impact of a generalized increase
of age can be a problem for the government s policies and for the maintenance of the economy. This
phenomenon is occurring right now in almost every country in the world, but faster in the
developed and developing countries. The purpose of this paper is to study the population ageing,
especially what are its causes, effects and what we can predict and do about the future. Besides,
this paper get more emphasis to the changes on Brazil s populace between 1970 and 2010, Brazil is
a developing country and it is a good example to go a little deeper on this topic.
AGING POPULATION: MAIN CAUSES
When the number of adults and elderly people begin to increase at the same time births begin to
decrease, a process of aging starts to affect the population.
The life expectancy increased significantly, this kind of measure should and will be analyzed
according to the specifics life conditions of each country or region, but a global measure is useful
to illustrate the issue. Thus, whereas in 1950 1955 the global life expectancy was 47.7 years, in
2005 2010 it was 67.9. This fact is mainly due to advances in medicine and improvement of life
conditions, which also contributes to mortality

Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death

Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death
Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation
for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths
can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the
dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with
that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have
more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living.
One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the
public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at
times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic
tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death.
Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic.
Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct
and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main
character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a
permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this

Characters Of Spider Man
Three Fictional Characters Essay
You need someone who goes out of their way to make it obvious that they want you in your life
such as family, friend and the person that you really love. There are many ways that I could be
able to describe myself like with different kind of characters. Let me tell you the three main
characters that I can really relate to and how their characteristics are related to me. The three
fictional characters that most represent my personality are Spider Man from the movie Spider man
for his helping out and caring for people, King Kong from the movie King Kong for his strength
and defense of his own territory and family, and Jumba from Lilo and Stitch for his loving nature
and protection of his family from enemies.
Even though Spider Man has a costume and can let out a web to climb or to get to places in the
Spider Man movie, that doesn t mean that we don t have similarities; we both like helping
people and taking care of them as well. When the audience is first introduced to Spider Man, he
is visiting a museum where there is a different kind of species because he is a photographer from
the school that he attended. While trying to take a picture, he notices that there is a spider
missing from the box, but until the spider was crawling down and landing on to Peter s hand, he
got bitten by it. Spider Man s classmates are not kind to him, just because of the way that he is,
which causes him to try to get along with other people who are nicer to him.

Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society
Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant
rise of scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most
peaceful era in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions
above spiritualism has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social
normalization, and an increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal
evolution. Patently, their breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in
video games. Equally, a fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have
become the sources of man s elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century
children does not emulate the upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound
embracement of technology has left violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a
child. Movies and video games labeled as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of
rated R movies in a previous generation. Much of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and
bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful population (Bozdech). Surely, children are
viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that undermine the austerity and ramifications of
sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by violence, understanding it to be an ordinary
occurrence and often the solution to a problem.

The Importance Of Gender Equality In Society
Gender equality will NOT ever be completely achievable because there will always be
differences between woman and man such as biological differences as well as gender roles and
expectations in society. Although the idea of what a woman and what a man should be has
changed over time, stereotypes still exist that make a clear distinction between the two. Stereotypes
still exist due to many generations of how children have been raised. For as long as humans have
been on this earth, inequality has always been evident between genders and that has laid the
foundation for beliefs in societies. To conclude, because segregation has existed, it will continue to
exist.
Throughout time, gender roles have always been evident as they have developed at such an early
time in human history and continues to remain. Children have been raised under the idea that
men and women are different. For example, in the Roman era, males were raised to be tough
warriors and females were solely recognized for their only role in society to raise a family and
look after the home (Cartwright, Mark 1). Little girls were essentially taught that they had a
limited role in society and that their only purpose is to find a man and reciprocate his actions.
Anything else such as political relations, women were not allowed to participate in. Found in
paragraph 12 of the article The Role of Women in the Roman World it states, Roman males did not
think women their equal but neither did they hate them. The story echoes the important role
women played in linking families in Roman society their family of birth and then of marriage.
(Cartwright, Mark 1) This is actually a standard that has remained throughout history. Exploring
further back into the past of civilization, gender roles can even be found in Aztec culture. In
paragraph 3 of Gender Roles in Aztec Culture Social Constructs it explains, Gender
complementarity was a prominent aspect of Aztec culture considering women and men to be
different but equally important to the whole of society. (Glynnis 1) This reveals that even as early
as the time when tribes like the Aztecs reigned, gender still determined a person s place in society.
Elaborated in paragraph 4 of the same article, Women

Chitra Divakaruni is the author of Live Free and Starve. She emigrated from India to the United
States. She has written many books addressing the immigrant experience in America. Her
experience as an immigrant, now living in America, gives her the knowledge to write on this topic.
Divakaruni has personal insight to how child laborers are treated in third world countries and how
they live verses the United States. A preconception Divakaruni has is the United States tries to
interfere and govern other countries without considering the consequences. In paragraph eight,
Divakaruni asks if Americans are ready, if the bill is passed, to take responsibility for rendering
these children homeless and jobless.
Divakaruni is writing to inform her audience on child labor. Child labor is terrible, but the
repercussions from Americans stepping in may be worse. Divakaruni is trying to convince her
audience if America interferes there will be negative consequences. On the outside looking in, the
way of life of these children is appalling. However, without these jobs, many children would be left

interest of the children at heart. Divakaruni plays off the audience s emotions as she describes the
hardships the children will face if they were unemployed. The audience is seen as uninformed.
Many people only see the negatives of child labor, not the reasoning behind why they re working.
These children work to provide for their families and keep them from starving. Divakaruni helps to

The Pros And Cons Of Religion And Atheism
Recently, I was able to go on a religious retreat. The topic of religion and atheism came into
existence and I thought that this was a topic I would like to go into more depth about so I took
part of the argument. This question was asked: Is atheism a religion? We argued if these two
subjects are related. Some said no and some said yes. Though I am not an Atheist my response to
this question is, yes I do believe that atheismis a religionbecause it has the incorporation of gods
and afterlife in the belief. Let us begin with the Miriam Webster Dictionary defining these two
nouns for us exactly. Atheism (noun): a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a
god or any gods ( Atheism. ). Religion (noun): the service and worship of God or the
supernatural commitment/devotion to religious faith/observance ( Religion. ). Comparing these
two words, they seem like they are complete opposites. The fact that religion means to believe in
a higher power, and atheism means the disbelief in a higher power, makes it seem impossible for
atheism to be a religion itself. However, when a person asks someone the question Are you a
Christian? , their response may be Yes, I am a Christian . On the other hand if one ask a person
Are you Christian? they can also respond with No, I am an Atheist . The two responses have the
same structures yet different meanings. Jimmy Akin (who is a catholic author and editor) said, A
belief is a religion if it asserts the existence of the

Simone Beauvoir
Throughout history, women have been constantly objectified and forced into submission by a
male dominated society. Simone de Beauvoir s philosophical work, The Second Sex, echoes this
intense oppression of women and reflects the first wave feminist movement. Her existentialist
decoding of genders resulted in the idea of the Other, which explores the phenomenon that women
are forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter of The
Second Sex, The Girl , Beauvoir further studies the idea of this oppression during one s transition
from a girl into a woman. Beauvoir states that no matter how much freedom and sense of self a
girl holds, she is always forced into the role of the Other in society. Beauvoir s idea... Show more

Beauvoir describes the relationship between men and women as, In her eyes, man embodies the
Other, as she does for the man; but for her this Other appears in the essential mode, and she
grasps herself as the inessential opposite him (Beauvoir 342). Men embody the Other in the eyes
of women and are the subject and absolute to women. On the other hand, women are referred as
the Other and are subordinate to men. She must be inessential in comparison to him, which is the
exact opposite of the relationship between Mako and Korra. Unlike the relationship between girls
and men that Beauvoir describes, Korra is the subject in relation to Mako. By himself, he is
essentially nothing which completely contradicts Beauvoir s idea of the Other. Without Korra,
Mako is incomplete, his entire identity is based off Korra. He speaks about himself in relation to
Korra, It s harder being the Avatar s boyfriend . His submission is shown through becoming
inessential opposite [her] and that he is only something in reference to Korra. He is not the

not do as fast as machines. The spread of technology also helped speed up work like the spinning
jenny which was used to take over the cottage industry. In addition to the spinning jenny there
was the spinning mule which was like a hybrid of the spinning jenny and the water frame. There
were also things like railroads .It also brought the steam powered engine which was just an
engine to help power things which ran off of water which meant that factories no longer had to
rely on coal to power their factories .The steam engine worked by heating water which made
steam then pushing out the steam to power whatever may of needed to be powered in that
factory .The steam powered engine also helped people get to places faster than by foot. It helped
also helped power certain things like factories or mines. The spread of technology replaced certain
jobs. If someone s job was replaced by a machine they could still go back to work on a

The Bhopal Disaster
It has been widely understood that UCC and the Indian government utilized one major type of
management style that may have contributed to this disaster and is regarded as Top Down
management. This style is still in use today by many corporations, however it is recognized as
only being effective in certain situations (Fortun Embrary , 2001). For example, many corporations
utilize top down when a change needs to be implemented. Executives are able to directly lay out
their expectations and what is expected. More specifically, everyone knows the rules and
regulations developed by upper management, and follows them. However, regarding the Bhopal
disaster, this management style is ineffective because middle management has no power to... Show

II. Since the Bhopal disaster we have gained invaluable insight on top down management
strategies and how they can still effective today versus in 1984. Top down strategies have been
productively used here in the United States, even before the Bhopal disaster, and are still utilized
today. It is because of disasters like Bhopal that we have been able to reanalyze and improve upon
age old strategies and make them more productive. Today, top down management is primarily used
during major change in a corporation s mission, or structure (Hicks, 2013). Researchers of the
Bhopal disaster have voiced their theories on this matter, and have said that middle management
was partly responsible because of their inability, or laziness to enforce regulatory safety and
maintenance protocols established by the Indian government, and UCC (Mac Sheoin Pearce, 2015).
Since top down management hinders the ability of the bottom level to effectively communicate
with the upper level, many aspects of the work required weren t necessarily ignored, they just weren
t communicated effectively to employees. Even if communicated effectively, employees were
unmotivated and probably performed inadequately (Pearson Mitroff, 1993). Today, managers
ensure they check in with their

Televised Courtrooms In Canada
Televised Courtrooms
Against
If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system
if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have
a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or
jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s
personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge
even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for
unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing
response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is
saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered
on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already
uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be the jury being swayed by the public to
select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal cases being more publicised will cause the viewers to be distressed about the number of
murders and robberies occurring in Canada. The media will catch fire over these felonies causing
many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even
though the police reported crime rate in Canada has been decreasing for over 2 decades. However,
since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and
modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there
are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. The point here is that what the
media chooses to focus on often times becomes the facts regardless of what the actual facts

Women In Pleasantville
One of my favorite movies that taught me the most about the roles of women in the United
States is Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross. The 1950s and 60s have always been an
interesting time period within women s history for me. In that time period, women were
homemakers where their job would be to cook, clean, and take care of their families. It is so
interesting to me because that is not at all how my family life is now. Pleasantville depicts the
life of women in that era by telling the story of two teens who are brought into the world of
Pleasantville where they take on the roles of Bud and Mary Sue Parker. In this world, everything
is black and white and their lives are seen as perfect family. Nothin ever went wrong in
Pleasantville,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As most of our popular culture, everything is always changing. What is in while we are
teenagers will be ancient in 10 years. The same goes for the wardrobes of women. I think that
the clothing options have had a positive progression because of the acceptance of female
sexuality. In the early 1920s women were extremely modest by showing little to know skin in
their daily lives. Women were expected to be made up all of the time and that is something that
I couldn t even imagine. Being a Marian girl, there is nothing I love more than throwing my hair
up every morning with no makeup. As you move into the 60s and 70s women began wearing
skirts, dresses, and girdles. YUCK. There is nothing wrong with a more modest look, the
problem I have with clothing is that even when mothers were cleaning the house they were
expected to be in dresses or other types of uncomfortable, but nice looking clothing. It has been
cool to see how slowly skirts have gotten shorter and more skin is being shown, but the central
issue is the mindset of seeing women as sexual object rather than a person. Although in our time
no type of clothing is surprising, there is still a sense of judgement from men and even older
women when you wear something that makes your look like a slut . It saddens me that people
really can t look past what you are wearing. I hope the future for women is going to be

Economic And Economic Development Of The United States
Introduction Despite its status as a major economic power, the United States exhibits several
features that create cause for concern. Whereas the U.S. economy largely depends on adjustments
in capital structures over time, individual firms and industries play critical roles in determining an
economic future. Firm and industry leverage further depend on a reconciliation of debt and
equity flows. More broadly, economic policies rooted in the philosophy of neoliberalism influence
the macroeconomic factors of gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investment (FDI)
while excess returns on investment (ROIs) promote instability in market functions by affecting
performance across firms and industries. Based on these observations, the economic future of the
U.S. depends on the shaping of fiscal and monetary policies that create space for uncertainty as
they would also guarantee more stable employment over time. Macroeconomic Conditions of the
U.S. The United States has macroeconomic features that pertain to capital structure and choice
across firms over time (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital structures adjust because of how economic
booms and busts affect choice. Economic recovery after a recession depends on the speed at
which capital structures adjust. However, a condition for economic recovery in the U.S. depends
on the size of individual firms and how they define a debt ratio (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital
structures also have a relation with labor especially concerning the

Boston Massacre Dbq
On March 5, 1770...The Boston Massacre, known as the Incident on King Street by the British,
was an incident on March 5, 1770, in which British Army soldiers shot and killed people while
under attack by a lot of colonists. There was not a massacre on March 5, 1770 in Boston because.
According to the sources B,C and D say that the colonists had weapons and they were also
attacking in the massacre. The evidence that supports my claims is that in documents B,C,D the
colonists are clearly seen with weapons according to the documents with the gazette, it said that
the colonists had weapons and were involved in the fight. This supports my own opinion because
in document b the colonists are seen with some type of sword or golf club. My second reason

The Pros And Cons Of Governor Rick Snyder
Let s be real right now not a lot of people like Governor Rick Snyder right now or for a while, a
many people do like Rick Snyder. There must be a reason Rick Snyder is still governor because
if he was that bad he would be out of office already. Think about it, if you were Rick, would you
do the same? If your image was in jeopardy, would you have done the same? I agree with the
other side that he should have brought up the issue earlier because he furthered the damage of
the trust that he had with the people of Michigan. Rick Snyder is a good governor; he has done a
lot of good things. That is why many people believe that Rick Snyder should still be governor
after this ordeal. My reasons are that he has been governor for a long time, it s the states fault, not
Rick s, and my last reason why Rick Snyder should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you just stop and think for one moment and say to yourself, wait he is not the only person in
the country to blame ,that is how you have to think. Rick Snyder is not the only one wow, I
wouldn t think that there are more people in the government. There are more people like the
congress that should have known they are above the president and if they didn t bring up the issue
before time then it is their fault. Now do you see that if you open your mind to more possibilities
you wouldn t be blind. Other people might say that Rick Snyder should not be governor because
he is the reason for all of this mess he is the worst governor, he put the lives of children in
jeopardy, but we all believe they are wrong. We all real people in Michigan think that there are
other people to blame like the congress. Secondly, he s been in office for a long time. And lastly,
it is the state s fault, not just Ricks. We don t care what other people say to us about our side that
is what we believe. This is why we real people of Michigan believe that it is not just Rick s

  • 4. Media And Mass Media Deviance Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017). Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass mediato entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn t be any motive behind showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime coverage. This consistent coverage of crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the media. They can feel a part of the intensity of an investigation, cheer on the enforcers, become immersed in their stereotypes. On the other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to overcome and resist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. I Am A Pastor At A Church Find your calling! Your mission! The one thing God has ordained for you to do for the rest of your life! These were some of the words that I heard being preached to kids my age since I started going to youth group in 7th grade. I heard these words, and I was excited. I was excited, but also nervous, and scared, but hopeful at the same time: hopeful that one day I would find my calling for my life. I would wonder my thoughts, thinking, what is my calling going to be? And where is it going to take me? Am I going to be called to be a Pastor at a church? Is the church going to be small? Will it be huge? Will it be far away? Or will I be called to be a missionary? Will I be called to go preach the gospel to thousands of civilians in East Africa? Or will I just be called to be a one on one counselor? Whatever it was, I couldn t wait for God to tell me what it was. A year or two went by, and people all around me were receiving their calling. My sister was called into Worship ministry, and my older brother was called to be a youth pastor. My friends were being called to be missionaries, doctors, counselors, pastors, and all other sorts of things. And there I was, still waiting to receive my calling. I thought, maybe I m just not ready for it: Maybe God s timing hasn t come yet. I was born into my family as the middle child. People who are planing a union are almost always fired and added to a list that is accessible to all the free trade zones. The woman interviewed is currently working in a free trade factory. She was part of a union that was successful and was able to demand a medical clinic, a person workers could go to with any problems, higher quality safety equipment, subsets for food and transit, and was not required to work overtime. TheTrans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Currently no workers have a say. I used to think fair tradewas a great concept, now I believe there are better options, like direct tradeand whole trade. Though buying fair trade is still a better option than supporting the free trade industry. My high school used to do a fair trade annual fundraiser, and I learned about the positives of fair trade, but I never considered the negative aspects. Mike Woodard, briefly touched upon fair trade. He stated that with a capitalist system, fair trade won t really work. There are still middlemen who receive a large portion of the profit meaning even though consumers pay more for fair trade, a lot is still not even reaching the workers. We visited Selva Negra on our second weekend in Nicaragua. Selva Negra is a german styled mountain resort that is completely sustainable and the coffee grown on the estate is sold whole trade. They sell a majority of their coffee to Whole Foods Markets in the US and use the rest in their restaurant. The tour guide mentioned that Whole Foods has guaranteed to buy a large portion of the coffee produced each season. Because of this, Selva Negra business doesn t need to worry about networking and finding multiple businesses to buy their coffee. In addition, because Selva Negra is selling large quantities, they get a better price for their coffee. Mike Woodard spoke about direct trade and the benefits. He said that when buying whole trade certified items, there is an assurance of high quality. Another benefit he mentioned was that whole trade helps create and foster relationships between buyers and sellers. Foreign involvement and grassroots development Involvement can be ... • 11. The Theme Of Invisibility And Lack Of Identity In Ralph... In the novel, Invisible Man the author Ralph Ellison developed a distinct theme of invisibility and lack of identity. Ellison developed this theme throughout the novel; especially in the beginning, Ellison was very plain spoken and grave about being invisible. The author never even revealed his actual name, it must imply that he is not very confident and feels as if it does not matter. Ellison also shows that he is at a loss of being sure in himself through his actions and how reacts to problems. • 12. Why Is Art Is A Terrible Thing And Should Not Exist People have drastically different opinions on the use of artistry in writing. Plato for one, believes that art is a terrible thing and should not exist because of its illusions. On the other hand, Patricia Smith uses it to, create the desired impact or slam home a salient point. Smith did this by making up people and their stories and writing quotes from them as if they were real. Smith s case is an example of why Plato was intent on the end of artistry. Some artists use qualities of writing meant for fiction in their nonfiction accounts. When they are discovered for breaking the rules of being a writer, they lose things like their jobs and credibility. His information does not line up and is misleading in this section as well as when he portrays the Indians like docile people who are, Never quarrelsome or belligerent or boisterous, they harbour no grudges and do not seek to settle old scores; indeed the notions of revenge, rancour, and hatred are quite foreign to them (Las Casas 10). While it is probable that many of the natives fit this description, it is also likely that many did not. This is a generalization that would cause the audience to have incorrect pre assumed ideas about Indians living in Latin America. Many parts of the Stearns and Smithsonian articles show the Aztec empire as a strong one which had conquered lots of land, the Indian peoples and cultures were more resilient (Stearns). Another accusation was that Since what a European will consume in a single day normally supports three native house holds of ten persons each for a whole month (Las Casas 14).This just sounds wrong reading it, and it would be rather ignorant for anyone to assume this was possible. Drew Desilver, a senior writer at the Pew Research Center, stated that almost eighty percent of American teens shop online, but almost eighty percent of the American teens prefer to shop in stores (Desilver). Famous websites, such as Amazon and eBay help many teenagers to look for what they need within a few seconds. Websites like google can help them to find items at a relatively lower cost, too. This saves a lot of time because they do not need to compare different costs at different locations for something they want to buy. This is especially critical for teens these years because they re more cautious with their cash than in previous years (Smith 4). Although people may prefer to shop in stores, they usually cannot find enough time to do so. It is particularly true for teens who do not have driver licenses or other transportation methods and consequently have to go with an adult only when the adults have free time. Furthermore, students can buy things in seconds in special online programs such as Amazon s 1 Click Checkout and get it shipped before they need to use it for school. They do not have to look for class material in the bookstore when it is crowded in the beginning of the school year and have to wait for a long line. The last reason that teens tend to shop online instead of shopping in stores even if they favor to do the second is because of their purchasing power. • 14. Sociological Imagination And Social Identity Presumptions, based on names, alter individuals social identities and can be explained through their relations with the main branches of sociological imagination: biography and history. Through the analysis of sociological imagination and its two primary components, the impact of influential forces is distinguishable in the investigation of how and why individuals perceive one another through the assumption of each other s names. In regards to sociological imagination s concept of history, origins of names may date back to previous generations, which permits present suppositions of race, ethics, and beliefs. Whoever s men come first, gets out free and alive. That what the author Saki had in mind when he wrote the short story, The Interlopers. The short story has many turns through the whole story to get the readers on their feet and guessing what s going to happen to the men. He has many ways of creating mysteries in a story. One technique he uses is suspense. He keeps the reader guessing about what s going to happen to the men. Will both men die? Will one man take over the other man s army? Will both men make it out of the forest alive? He wants you to keep creating questions in your mind so you never really know what s going to happen next. The two enemies stood glaring at one another for a long silent moment. Each had a rife in his hand, each had hate in his heart and murder uppermost in his mind. • 21. Symbolism In William Jennings Bryan s The Wonderful... During the late 1800 s, a pervasive sense of melancholy permeated throughout the forgotten, dreary Midwestern United States. While the industrial revolution boosted the economy on the coasts, Midwestern farmers were victims of deflationary debt increases, exorbitant shipping and railroad rates, a high protective tariff, and a government that for the most part ignored them.1 Desperate circumstances moved the everyday American farmers to join together and voice their grievances. Instead of seeking federal aid or economic relief, they attempted to use the power of the ballot to achieve their goals.1 The united group of farmers used the Populist Partyas a springboard to launch their complaints and eventually got their candidate, William Jennings Bryan, nominated for the presidential election of 1896 by the Democratic Party. L. Frank Baum, a newspaper writer who lived in a small prairie town in South Dakota, experienced the populist wave firsthand, attending Bryan s famous Cross of Gold speech in Chicago, and subtly incorporated many aspects of Bryan s campaign into his children s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.2 Despite his own claim that this novel was written solely for the entertainment of the children of today , several historians have discovered that the book clearly reflects the culture of the time period in which it was written.3 By symbolically representing the struggles of the everyday working man, Bryan s political enemies, and the campaign for free silver, Baum ... To think about a better and longer life seems too attractive for us, but the impact of a generalized increase of age can be a problem for the government s policies and for the maintenance of the economy. This phenomenon is occurring right now in almost every country in the world, but faster in the developed and developing countries. The purpose of this paper is to study the population ageing, especially what are its causes, effects and what we can predict and do about the future. • 26. Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death Chris Shea ENG 477 Professor Heidi Hartwig 04/21/16 Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living. One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death. Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic. Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this in the final year ... Characters Of Spider Man Three Fictional Characters Essay You need someone who goes out of their way to make it obvious that they want you in your life such as family, friend and the person that you really love. There are many ways that I could be able to describe myself like with different kind of characters. Let me tell you the three main characters that I can really relate to and how their characteristics are related to me. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Spider Man from the movie Spider man for his helping out and caring for people, King Kong from the movie King Kong for his strength and defense of his own territory and family, and Jumba from Lilo and Stitch for his loving nature and protection of his family from enemies. Even though Spider Man has a costume and can let out a web to climb or to get to places in the Spider Man movie, that doesn t mean that we don t have similarities; we both like helping people and taking care of them as well. • 28. Violence On The Rise Of Contemporary Society Violence on the Rise Contemporary society has evolved around materialism due to an incessant rise of scientific and technological innovations. While some may argue man is living in the most peaceful era in American history, the incline of man s tendency to value material possessions above spiritualism has effectively caused an erosion of general morality, a revision of social normalization, and an increase in violent actions. Children are the leading advocates in this societal evolution. Patently, their breeding is exposed to more distinguished violent content in films and in video games. Equally, a fixation on their cellular device and its uncensored social media have become the sources of man s elevating violence. Certainly the upbringing of twenty first century children does not emulate the upbringing of twentieth century children. Culture s newfound embracement of technology has left violent material predisposed to the underdeveloped brain of a child. Movies and video games labeled as PG 13 now are beginning to resemble the content of rated R movies in a previous generation. Much of the violence is cartoonishly sterilized and bloodless to ensure a rating that attracts the youthful population (Bozdech). Surely, children are viewing irresponsible projections of conflicts that undermine the austerity and ramifications of sincere violence. They grow to become desensitized by violence, understanding it to be an ordinary occurrence and often the solution to a problem. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Importance Of Gender Equality In Society Gender equality will NOT ever be completely achievable because there will always be differences between woman and man such as biological differences as well as gender roles and expectations in society. Although the idea of what a woman and what a man should be has changed over time, stereotypes still exist that make a clear distinction between the two. Stereotypes still exist due to many generations of how children have been raised. For as long as humans have been on this earth, inequality has always been evident between genders and that has laid the foundation for beliefs in societies. To conclude, because segregation has existed, it will continue to exist. Throughout time, gender roles have always been evident as they have developed at such an early time in human history and continues to remain. Children have been raised under the idea that men and women are different. For example, in the Roman era, males were raised to be tough warriors and females were solely recognized for their only role in society to raise a family and look after the home (Cartwright, Mark 1). Little girls were essentially taught that they had a limited role in society and that their only purpose is to find a man and reciprocate his actions. Anything else such as political relations, women were not allowed to participate in. Found in paragraph 12 of the article The Role of Women in the Roman World it states, Roman males did not think women their equal but neither did they hate them. The story echoes the important role women played in linking families in Roman society their family of birth and then of marriage. (Cartwright, Mark 1) This is actually a standard that has remained throughout history. Exploring further back into the past of civilization, gender roles can even be found in Aztec culture. In paragraph 3 of Gender Roles in Aztec Culture Social Constructs it explains, Gender complementarity was a prominent aspect of Aztec culture considering women and men to be different but equally important to the whole of society. (Glynnis 1) This reveals that even as early as the time when tribes like the Aztecs reigned, gender still determined a person s place in society. The topic of religion and atheism came into existence and I thought that this was a topic I would like to go into more depth about so I took part of the argument. This question was asked: Is atheism a religion? We argued if these two subjects are related. Some said no and some said yes. Though I am not an Atheist my response to this question is, yes I do believe that atheismis a religionbecause it has the incorporation of gods and afterlife in the belief. Let us begin with the Miriam Webster Dictionary defining these two nouns for us exactly. Atheism (noun): a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods ( Atheism. ). Religion (noun): the service and worship of God or the supernatural commitment/devotion to religious faith/observance ( Religion. ). Comparing these two words, they seem like they are complete opposites. The fact that religion means to believe in a higher power, and atheism means the disbelief in a higher power, makes it seem impossible for atheism to be a religion itself. However, when a person asks someone the question Are you a Christian? , their response may be Yes, I am a Christian . On the other hand if one ask a person Are you Christian? they can also respond with No, I am an Atheist . The two responses have the same structures yet different meanings. Simone de Beauvoir s philosophical work, The Second Sex, echoes this intense oppression of women and reflects the first wave feminist movement. Her existentialist decoding of genders resulted in the idea of the Other, which explores the phenomenon that women are forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter of The Second Sex, The Girl , Beauvoir further studies the idea of this oppression during one s transition from a girl into a woman. • 41. The Bhopal Disaster It has been widely understood that UCC and the Indian government utilized one major type of management style that may have contributed to this disaster and is regarded as Top Down management. This style is still in use today by many corporations, however it is recognized as only being effective in certain situations (Fortun Embrary , 2001). For example, many corporations utilize top down when a change needs to be implemented. Executives are able to directly lay out their expectations and what is expected. More specifically, everyone knows the rules and regulations developed by upper management, and follows them. However, regarding the Bhopal disaster, this management style is ineffective because middle management has no power to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... II. Since the Bhopal disaster we have gained invaluable insight on top down management strategies and how they can still effective today versus in 1984. Top down strategies have been productively used here in the United States, even before the Bhopal disaster, and are still utilized today. It is because of disasters like Bhopal that we have been able to reanalyze and improve upon age old strategies and make them more productive. Today, top down management is primarily used during major change in a corporation s mission, or structure (Hicks, 2013). Researchers of the Bhopal disaster have voiced their theories on this matter, and have said that middle management was partly responsible because of their inability, or laziness to enforce regulatory safety and maintenance protocols established by the Indian government, and UCC (Mac Sheoin Pearce, 2015). Since top down management hinders the ability of the bottom level to effectively communicate with the upper level, many aspects of the work required weren t necessarily ignored, they just weren t communicated effectively to employees. Even if communicated effectively, employees were unmotivated and probably performed inadequately (Pearson Mitroff, 1993). Today, managers ensure they check in with their ... • 42. Televised Courtrooms In Canada Televised Courtrooms Against If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be the jury being swayed by the public to select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Criminal cases being more publicised will cause the viewers to be distressed about the number of murders and robberies occurring in Canada. The media will catch fire over these felonies causing many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even though the police reported crime rate in Canada has been decreasing for over 2 decades. However, since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. The point here is that what the media chooses to focus on often times becomes the facts regardless of what the actual facts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Women In Pleasantville One of my favorite movies that taught me the most about the roles of women in the United States is Pleasantville directed by Gary Ross. The 1950s and 60s have always been an interesting time period within women s history for me. In that time period, women were homemakers where their job would be to cook, clean, and take care of their families. It is so interesting to me because that is not at all how my family life is now. Pleasantville depicts the life of women in that era by telling the story of two teens who are brought into the world of Pleasantville where they take on the roles of Bud and Mary Sue Parker. In this world, everything is black and white and their lives are seen as perfect family. Nothin ever went wrong in Pleasantville,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As most of our popular culture, everything is always changing. What is in while we are teenagers will be ancient in 10 years. The same goes for the wardrobes of women. I think that the clothing options have had a positive progression because of the acceptance of female sexuality. In the early 1920s women were extremely modest by showing little to know skin in their daily lives. Women were expected to be made up all of the time and that is something that I couldn t even imagine. Being a Marian girl, there is nothing I love more than throwing my hair up every morning with no makeup. As you move into the 60s and 70s women began wearing skirts, dresses, and girdles. YUCK. There is nothing wrong with a more modest look, the problem I have with clothing is that even when mothers were cleaning the house they were expected to be in dresses or other types of uncomfortable, but nice looking clothing. It has been cool to see how slowly skirts have gotten shorter and more skin is being shown, but the central issue is the mindset of seeing women as sexual object rather than a person. Although in our time no type of clothing is surprising, there is still a sense of judgement from men and even older women when you wear something that makes your look like a slut . It saddens me that people really can t look past what you are wearing. I hope the future for women is going to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Economic And Economic Development Of The United States Introduction Despite its status as a major economic power, the United States exhibits several features that create cause for concern. Whereas the U.S. economy largely depends on adjustments in capital structures over time, individual firms and industries play critical roles in determining an economic future. Firm and industry leverage further depend on a reconciliation of debt and equity flows. More broadly, economic policies rooted in the philosophy of neoliberalism influence the macroeconomic factors of gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investment (FDI) while excess returns on investment (ROIs) promote instability in market functions by affecting performance across firms and industries. Based on these observations, the economic future of the U.S. depends on the shaping of fiscal and monetary policies that create space for uncertainty as they would also guarantee more stable employment over time. Macroeconomic Conditions of the U.S. The United States has macroeconomic features that pertain to capital structure and choice across firms over time (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital structures adjust because of how economic booms and busts affect choice. Economic recovery after a recession depends on the speed at which capital structures adjust. However, a condition for economic recovery in the U.S. depends on the size of individual firms and how they define a debt ratio (Cook Tang, 2010). Capital structures also have a relation with labor especially concerning the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boston Massacre Dbq On March 5, 1770...The Boston Massacre, known as the Incident on King Street by the British, was an incident on March 5, 1770, in which British Army soldiers shot and killed people while under attack by a lot of colonists. There was not a massacre on March 5, 1770 in Boston because. According to the sources B,C and D say that the colonists had weapons and they were also attacking in the massacre. The evidence that supports my claims is that in documents B,C,D the colonists are clearly seen with weapons according to the documents with the gazette, it said that the colonists had weapons and were involved in the fight. This supports my own opinion because in document b the colonists are seen with some type of sword or golf club. My second reason ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Pros And Cons Of Governor Rick Snyder Let s be real right now not a lot of people like Governor Rick Snyder right now or for a while, a many people do like Rick Snyder. There must be a reason Rick Snyder is still governor because if he was that bad he would be out of office already. Think about it, if you were Rick, would you do the same? If your image was in jeopardy, would you have done the same? I agree with the other side that he should have brought up the issue earlier because he furthered the damage of the trust that he had with the people of Michigan. Rick Snyder is a good governor; he has done a lot of good things. That is why many people believe that Rick Snyder should still be governor after this ordeal.
