Implementing A Major Zone Reorganization ( Rosenberg )
Christine was in charge of implementing a major zone reorganization (Rosenberg, 2003, p. 262).
Unfortunately, that was half the battle, Christine priority mission and focus was Deregulation .
This meaning is the reduction or elimination of government power in a particular industry, usually
enacted to create more competition within the industry. (Francis, J. 2003 2016) stated,
Deregulation can cause weaker, smaller organizations to be forced out of the market . This
translates to loss of jobs. Adding on to her plate, Christine had to figure the changing and possible
combination of the four offices along with the different cultures. She is very knowledgeable of the
industry especially after working for one of the top notch insurancecompanies. This change has
made it difficult for Christine, she has combine four offices into one. Combining these offices
would require a few cost cutting moves. After the short notice of this change, Christine realized the
challenge of transitioning and combining her managers to develop the best strategy for the
upcoming move.
In the insurance industry, the first regulation took place in the 1850 s. By then many insurers had
to gamble with prices to get on top of their competitors. These insurers were providing coverage
and protection for customers dealing with disabilities and workers compensation. (Rosenberg, S.
2003, p.263) stated, Changes in the way people live and work necessitated new coverages. With
deregulation creating a new

An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation
Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of
wealth and power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap
between the rich and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that
the top 1% has more power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away
with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest
people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations
today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are
being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding
of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two
completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The
answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google,
Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the
original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in
America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these things and it s starting to affect
us as a country day by day. But while the truth of the economy may be difficult to understand,
Collins, Yeskel, and Perkins clarified and changed my views on the

Compare And Contrast Paleolithic And Neolithic People
Neolithic and Paleolithic People
To begin with, Paleolithic and Neolithic people are unintelligent, rowdy, hairy, and smelly.
Paleolithic and Neolithic people were known as cavemen. Neolithic people had better technology
than Paleolithic people. Additionally, The Neolithic and Paleolithic people use tools to survive.
Paleolithic people use tools so they can hunt, gather food, build houses, and make clothes. The
Paleolithic people s tools were constructed out of stone. Neolithic people use tools for farming. The
tools were constructed out of rocks and copper then they advanced their tools by mixing rock
with copper. People these days call rocks mixed with copper is called bronze. The reason I picked
tools because they have plenty of

Cinematography Is an Integral Part of Motion Pictures Essay
C. Cinematography The term cinematography is interconnected with the concept of still
photography, but is an integral part of motion pictures. Within this context, Russell Carpenter s role
as the cinematographer of the film Titanic is important. For instance, his attitude towards
cinematography, especially his tireless effort to attain perfection contributed to the success of the
film. In the film, Carpenter s co operation with art department and visual effects department deeply
influenced his role in the film as a cinematographer. During the production of the film, Cameron s
initial idea did not clash with Carpenter s personal idea on cinematography. To be specific, working
with Cameron was helpful for Carpenter as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a different angle of view, close up shots of the lovers (in the deck) provide richness and
romantic touch to the scenes. On the other side, long shots provide importance to the sinking of
the ship. E. Sound In the initial stages of the production of the film Titanic, Cameron was not
ready to use any song. When he listened to the song My Heart Will Go On sung by Celine Dion,
he changed his mind and decided to use the same in his film. One can see that this song is one of
the elements behind the commercial success of the film as an international hit. The film s musical
element is contributed by James Roy Horner. One can see that Horner s music is deeply
influenced by Celtic music. Besides, Horner was deeply interested to inculcate electronic elements
to film music. From a different angle of view, the sound effect in the film leads the viewers from
peace to chaos and vice versa. In addition, the sound effects contributed much to the commercial
success and international fame of the film. One can see that sound designing is an integral part of
the sound effects in a film. Within the context of sound designing of the film Titanic, Chris Boyes s
contribution is noteworthy because he was keenly interested to inculcate natural sound to the sound
track. Some of the important scenes in the film (Titanic hitting the iceberg and sinking into the
Ocean) prove Boyle as a successful sound

• Describe The Structures And Locations Of The Penis,...
25.Describe the structures and locations of the glans penis, crus, bulb, and prepuce.
The penis is the male organ through which sperm cells are transferred from the male to the female.
The penis contains three columns of erectile tissue. Engorgement of this erectile tissue with blood
causes the penis to enlarge and become firm this process is called erection. Two of the erectile
columns form the dorsum and sides of the penis and are called the corpora cavernosa. The third
column, the corpus spongiosum, forms the ventral portion of the penis. It expands to form a cap
over the distal end of the penis. The spongy urethra passes through the corpus spongiosum,
penetrates the glans penis, and opens as the external urethral orifice. At the base of

Women s Lack Of Respect For Female Characters
In Sherman Alexie s Flight, female characters are objectified and reduced to simple roles because
their primary purpose in the narrative is to display their sexuality for the gratification of the men.
Before his affair is revealed, Jimmy is seduced by his young lover: Jimmy sits on the floor. He
grabs a piece of fried chicken, a leg, and takes a bite. It s a little dry. So, okay, Helda isn t much of a
cook. But that s okay. That s perfectly okay. Because she turns on a CD player and starts dancing.
She dances for Jimmy! Dances for me! (Alexie 116).
The passage is a representation of the book s lack of respect for female characters because Alexie
relegates Helda to a place of little significance in order to create more space for Jimmy. ... Show

It is even worse when the female characters are openly disrespected by the thoughts of the male
characters.
The value judgments of Helda through the descriptions reinforce the narrative s male gaze because
Helda s worth as a human is evaluated by her ability to provide others with food and sex. Helda,
along with most other women in this story, do not have complex emotions or backgrounds, and
the fleeting glimpses into their existences are nearly exclusively related to an interaction with a
man. Since women do not have a role apart from their male counterparts, how they are viewed is
essential to understanding the women themselves. Unfortunately, women are valued with
confining and stereotypically feminine attributes, like being sexy and good cooks. It is okay
that Helda s chicken is dry; she can be forgiven because she s hot when she dances for Jimmy.
Jimmy and Zits perceive Helda s actions as solely existing for their pleasure, hence the for, and
they base her worth on her effect on others, without any regard to her own individual humanity.
The male gaze in this book is egregious, to a truly absurd degree, because women are never
allowed to be their own people; their entire existences revolve around the presence, thoughts, and
criticisms of men.
In addition to the content of the passage, the form also propagates the notion that women only exist
to bring pleasure to nearby men. Nearly every

Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity
Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his
king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book
either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the
Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that
the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book
concerning the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based on
the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to
be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the
foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual
father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers
of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a
way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his
contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of
Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person
in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling,
relentless, ferocious, and aggressive.

Catch-22 Literary Analysis
War, it stripes people of their sanity and ethics, still it is considered a catalyst for change. In the
novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed
in world war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on
war, there are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even
though it is very much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means
virtuous and has in fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things;
malevolent, economically challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite
of the fact that Joseph Hellerdepicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing
factor, they do notice the importance of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if
the veterans don t acknowledge their importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed,
our economic gain will suffer, over population will occur (worse than it already is), and our
territory and freedom will be purloined, I m not running away from my responsibilities. I m running
to them. There s nothing negative about running away to save my life. (Joseph Heller, Catch 22)
War occurs so we can have our freedom, we cannot just lie around idly and expect to reap the
benefits. As a result, the government chooses eligible citizens to bravely fight for their country and

What You Should Eat Will Stir Anxiety
Life can be confusing while at the top of the food chain. For most animals, eating is simply
habitual and is a subconscious choice. Monarch butterflies eat milkweed, koalas go for the
eucalyptus leaves, and whales chow down on plankton. But we homo sapiens, hindered by a big
brain and inventions such as agriculture and industry, face a bewildering array of choices, from
scrambled eggs to Chicken McNuggets, from a bowl of fresh blueberries to the chemically
complex yellow and white log of sweet, spongy foodproduct known as the mystical Twinkie. When
you can eat just about anything nature has to offer, Michael Pollanwrites in this thoughtful,
engrossing new book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir
anxiety.
Nowhere is this anxiety more drastic, Pollan says, than in the United States. Wealth, abundance
and the lack of a steadying, centuries old food culture have conspired to make Americans
dysfunctional eaters. We are obsessed with getting thin while becoming ever more fat, lurching
from one bogus bit of dietary wisdom to another. Pollan diagnoses a national eating disorder, and
he aims to shed light on both its causes and some potential solutions. In order to achieve this, he
embarks on four separate eating adventures, each of which starts at the very beginning in the soil
from which the raw materials of his dinners will emerge and ends with a cooked, finished meal.
These meals are, in order, a McDonald s repast consumed by

Essay Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature
Evil in Nature and a Benevolent God
The idea of the existence of evil in nature many times creates arguments between creationists and
scientists concerning not only the design of nature by a creator God, but the actual benevolence
of God. In Stephen Jay Gould s essay Nonmoral Nature (1984), he explores this highly
controversial issue by posing the question: If God is good and if creation reveals his goodness,
why are we surrounded with pain, suffering, and apparently senseless cruelty in the animal world?
He uses the life span of the parasitic ichneumon wasp to illustrate a scientific view that the concept
of evil is limited to human beings and that the world of nature is unconcerned with it. To some ...

Environmental conditions deteriorated as a reflection of man s declining moral character and
religious commitments. Chaos began to creep into their physical world. William Kirby (1835)
wrote in one of the famous Bridgewater Treatises on natural theology that God created fleas, lice,
and intestinal parasites after the fall of Adam and Eve. It was also after the fall of man that he
became aware that nature as beneficial and beautiful as God had created it, also had a cruel and
dangerous side. The once perfect world had no pathogenic organisms. Bacteria for example,
played a purely beneficial role in the ecology of paradise. Even in the Garden of Eden, there had
to be some type of garbage or refuse. Flower petals and fallen fruit would litter the ground unless
some microbial force broke them down into useful organic matter. However, after man s fall,
strains of bacteria became toxic and man realized that accidentally eating toxic plants could kill
him, there were disease epidemics, and major struggles to protect his food crop from disease, plant
and animal pests (Wheeler, Gerald). Not long after that did the violence of man evolve and spread
throughout the land.
Another crisis stressed the earth s ecology as a result of man s corruption,

A Report On The Healthcare Industry
In years past, the healthcare industry focused on payment from patient volume; however, recent

The majority of physician employers are too dependent on using compensation as the mechanism to
influence physicians behaviors. The limited understanding physicians have of the risk based
payment models, in conjunction with their inherent risk aversion, make accepting these approaches
difficult; thus, hindering the possibility for an increase in higher value care. Physicians become
overwhelmed or feel as if they are not prepared to implement or accommodate changes.
Additionally, they have a limited understanding of the ways their behavior influences inefficiency
and waste.
The McKinsey Company study states that, health systems and health plans should develop a true
capacity in physician engagement, which is much broader than, and does not necessarily include
employment. Employing physicians is very costly, often fails to deliver the intended value and is
not crucial to achieving physician engagement. The report suggests the way in which physicians are
engaged is a crucial aspect of driving change; more so than any contractual mechanism.
Strategies to incite physician engagement
Because each association is different, a one size fits all approach is not feasible. However, there is

Did OSHA revision to the Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Standard that requires greater use of anti
needlestick technologies result in reductions of BBP incidents among healthcare workers?
The purpose of this paper is intended to provide a review of the above formulated topic and
backed up by research compiled through scholarly peer reviewed literature as well as supportive
statistical from entities such as: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), World Health Organization (WHO),
and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Further consideration was given
to areas within OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards that may have contributed to the mitigation
of injuries in healthcare settings as they relate to occupational percutaneous injuries. Scholarly peer
reviewed literature and journals dating from 2002 to 2015 obtained from the University of West

Misogyny In Barometer Rising By Hugh Maclennan
The historical fiction novel of Barometer rising by Hugh MacLennan is a book that takes place in
Halifax, Nova Scotia in the early 20th century during the time of the first world war. Consequently,
many of the actions taken place within the novel and the atmosphere of the novel match both this
time period and the location in which the noveltakes place. This 20th century atmosphere becomes
exceptionally apparent through the misogyny and hardships the female protagonist Penny Wain

Roles Of Women In Roman Women
In my civilization of Rome, women in society have the duty of taking care of the home and
family. Love has almost nothing to do with a Roman marriage. It exists so that wives may
produce children to be heirs to their father s property. Every man wants a son to care for them in
old age and eventually take over the estate, since there are no retirement homes or pension plans.
Age fourteen is an average age for a young girl to get married. Women have weak judgment, so
they are prohibited from attending, speaking in, or voting at political assemblies. They also
cannot hold any governmental position. Egypt treats its women very differently in comparison
to my civilization. Egyptians believe that joy and happiness are legitimate goals of life and take
home and family very seriously. Women of Egypt are almost completely equal to men in regards
to the law. They can own property, borrow money, sign contracts, and initiate divorce. The men
and women here love children, and do not conceive children just to produce an heir to property.
We Romans have a practical attitude towards religion. The upper elite classes hold the priesthood
positions. There is no separation of church and state. We consider ourselves highly religious and
our practices and beliefs are our own. It is a part of our daily lives, and each home has a
household shrine in which families can pray to. We credit our religious customs to its founder

The Occupational Safety and Health Act
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 heralded a new era in the history of public efforts
to protect workers from harm on the job. This Act established for the first time a nationwide, federal
program to protect almost the entire work force from job related death, injury and illness,
(MacLaury). Occupational health and safety awareness pre dates OSHA by decades, though, and it
is important to place the administration within its historical context. The Industrial Revolution in
the late nineteenth century proceeded like a locomotive, without any barrier or restriction.
However, working conditions became increasingly dangerous. Social and political activism
spawned the labor movements that led to early occupational safety regulations. As United States
Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration states, the nation s first
occupational safety regulations were passed in Massachusetts in 1877. Several states followed
suit, paving the way for the United States Department of Labor to take federal action. Special
investigator for the Department of Labor, Alice Hamilton, conducted some of the first forma
surveys of factories and other industrial workplaces. These formative surveyed provided the
methodological foundations upon which modern occupational safety research and practice are
built. In 1934, Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins created the Bureau of Labor Standards, to

Comparing The Great Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Introduction:
Global accounts of the Great Deluge are documented as history or legend by cultures in nearly all
regions on earth. Flood myths are found not only in the current religious doctrines of near eastern
societies, but also in those of the ancient civilizations of the world, ranging from the remnants of
Ancient Greek and Mesopotamian tablets to the oral traditions of the Maya and Chinese. Of over
500 flood legends from a multitude of different cultures, it seems the most ancient accounts of the
Great Deluge date back to the Epic of Gilgamesh from the Ancient Sumerian Civilization. Two of
the most popular religions, Christianity and Hinduism, also have accounts of such a devastating
flood in their religious scriptures. Although their stories of the Great flood are incredibly similar,
they both have differences that reflect the beliefs of their respective cultures, which are in turn
reflected in their societies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The similarities, for example, can be explained with the proposition that the Great Deluge was a
historic event or with the theory that the flood myths are variations of an original account, which
would most likely be the Epic of Gilgamesh. In contrast, the discrepancies between the Hindu and
Christian versions of the myths can be explained as varying due to the different beliefs central to
their respective religions. Thus, the topic to be explored henceforth is the impact that the

There are three types of exchange rates. They are:
1)Fixed rate

3)Floating rate
FIXED EXCHANGE RATE REGIME
Central bank of any country takes decision on which type of exchange rate to use in their country.
When central bank takes decision that not to change value of their currency with respect to foreign
currency then it is termed as fixed rate. Different variants are available in fixed rate as,
1)Adjustable peg
2)Crawling peg
When capital account of any country becomes negative that means more foreign currency is getting
out of domestic country. This process increase price of domestic currency against foreign currency
which puts pressure on the domestic currency to get depreciates. Since the exchange ... Show more

One of the greatest example when a country moved towards managed exchange rate regime is
France after World War I. France had the stable currency, Franc since 1803 but during the war
there was huge emission of notes due to which the price level shoot up. In 1924, the country was
nearing defaults when the government intervened and took many measures to stabilize the
currency. It cut down expenditures, increased taxes, increased capital inflows. A new ceiling was
introduced on money in circulation which resulted in ceasing of treasury bonds. All of these
measures led to accumulation of foreign reserves and thus the value of Franc increased in the
world market and the currency reached to 80% of its pre war

The Amendment Protection Against Unreasonable Search And...
Michael Brown in Ferguson, Eric Garner in Staten Island, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Walter Scott in
North Charleston and, most recently, Freddie Gray in Baltimore have dominated the headlines this
entire school year. These men and their stories provide the basis for claims of racially
discriminatory treatment of African Americans at the hands of the police. It is true that each of the
stories surrounding these men is different, but the one unifying theme is that police around the
country are interpreting our Constitutional rights in a way that is insufficient to protect African
Americans and the population in general. This paper will explore one Constitutional right the 4th
Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizures and examine how one Supreme
Court decision that narrowed the scope of the 4th Amendment and unintentionally created a
mechanism by which the rights of citizens could be unfairly impeded by police. On June 10 1968,
the United States Supreme Court sided with the government in the case Terry v Ohio, and held that
the practice of stop and frisk was within the bounds of the 4th Amendment and therefore
constitutional. On October 31, 1963, while walking a routine beat in Cleveland, Ohio, Officer
Martin McFadden noticed a group of three African American men acting suspiciously outside of a
jewelry store. After watching them walk by the store and reconvene almost 24 times, McFadden
approached the group, identified himself as an officer and

Inclusion Of Inclusion For Students With Disabilities Essay
It is imperative that inclusion techniques be implemented in the classroom. Studies and research
show that implementing inclusion techniques in the classroom have immense positive impacts on
all students. As a result of these findings there is a rise in legislation being passed that fosters
inclusion on a broader scale. Furthermore, it is necessary to apply inclusiontechniques from a young
age in order to ensure the greatest success. In my opinion the application of inclusion technique s in
classrooms is becoming exceedingly important to the success of students with disabilities.
According to the textbook, Exceptional Lives, Special Educationin Today s Schools, inclusion is
defined as ...the participation of students with disabilities alongside their non disabled peers in
academic, extracurricular, and other school activities (Turnbull 42). It is important to note that
IDEA refers to inclusion in the terms of a least restrictive learning environment. IDEA s perception
of a least restrictive environment promotes inclusion in general educationclassrooms. The law states
that, each state must establish procedures to assure that, to the maximum extent appropriate,
children with disabilities...are educated with children who are not disabled, and special classes,
separate schooling, or other removal of children with disabilities from the regular educational
environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the disability of a child is such that

Although pumpkin has been the craze for a while, StarbucksВ® introduced the pumpkin drink in
2003 when there were virtually no other pumpkin products on the market. (Starbucks Newsroom,
2014). Realizing the great risk of pumpkin, the senior leaders proceeded with the go ahead for the
new Pumpkin Spice Latte drink. Around 100 stores were provided the opportunity to introduce the
new seasonal drink, and after a better than expected success with the product, StarbucksВ® knew
the Pumpkin Spice Latte was a winner. After eleven years, StarbucksВ® revealed the recipe for the

Oregon, in 2014, plans were put in place to expand in 2015. The mobile ordering experience has
been integrated into the already existing Starbucks mobile app, and My Starbucks RewardsВ®
program. Continuing to utilize the expanding features of mobile possibilities, StarbucksВ® is
growing with customer demand. Realizing the growing possibility of income from the use of the
app, Starbucks has initiated a plan to expand the mobile app even more (Meola, 2016). In
addition, sales through the mobile app has continued to grow, and, therefore, inspired the
expansion of offerings through mobile communication. Studies have concluded that the use of
the mobile app has become a core strategy for the business, and future growth for the Starbucks

the use of the mobile app to still be in the growing stages of the product life cycle. The maturity

White And Brown Dwarfs Essay
Astronomy Project
Questioning: What is a neutron star and how have scientists been able to research them?
What are the differences between white and brown dwarfs and why do we study them?
Are there multiple ways for a star to form or is there only one?
When the core of a massive star experiences a huge gravitational collapse, the end of its life only
starts another s. During this process, protons and electrons are packed together so tightly, that they
leave behind a neutron star. These stars and many others form in a variety of ways. In order for
the neutron star to form, neutron degeneracy must halt the collapse. Although this is true for
many stellar masses, those less than about 1.44 solar masses form white dwarfs when the
collapse is ceased by electron degeneracy. Despite the name, brown dwarfs are not very similar to
white dwarfs. Each form very differently, for a brown dwarf is considered a failed star to many
scientists. Brown dwarfs are both smaller than stars and larger than planets as large as those like
Jupiter. Therefore, the insufficient mass in the star is not able to ... Show more content on

Their name was chosen simply because, at the time, astronomers did not know what color these
objects would have. Although they are this large and have an even larger mass, their size is not
considered vast enough to become a star. Because of their insufficient mass, brown dwarfs have
an inability to produce the temperatures necessary to trigger the thermonuclear reactions that
power other stars. The first brown dwarf was not discovered until 1995, and are, according to
astronomy professor Ian S. McLean, formed along with stars by the contraction of gases and dust
in the interstellar medium. Two types of brown dwarfs would include the classifications of T
Dwarfs and Y Dwarfs. Scientists are not sure what color Y Dwarfs are, but know that T Dwarfs
would appear reddish or magenta to the human

Suddenly something hits me strong at my ribs, some of them might be broken by the impact; I fell

Throughout the whole book, I could clearly see many instances of literary devices being used.
One of the first things I noticed was character foil. In the prologue, when Margo and Quentin
found the dead body, Margo went up to investigate while Quentin stayed back and asked if they
could tell someone and leave. Character foil makes the personas more realistic and believable.
Additionally, on page 104, the detective told Quentin about how kids are like balloons. Some float
peacefully and others strain against the string until it snaps and they are free. This is an example
of a metaphor or symbolism. Furthermore, when Quentin was reading Moby Dick in class, I
noticed that the two stories had strong similarities. Captain Arab is chasing for the white whale, one
he barely knows, because of a one time occurrence. Likewise, Quentin (Captain Arab) is chasing
after Margo (The White Whale) without knowing who she truly

Gender, Sexuality, Reproduction, And Motherhood
Prior to and during the 1960 s the traditional outlook on women as equals was limites in nearly
every aspect. From marriage, sexuality, reproduction, and motherhood a woman was expected to
follow a pre destined order and timeline in life to complete these tasks. The expectation of women
at the time was to marry young, 18 24, and quickly start a familywhere she would devote her life to
raising children and housekeeping. Wives of the time period shouldered the responsibilities of
child care and home making, while men were expected to merely work, come home to a clean
house and dinner, and then slip off to bed. Until the late 1960 s when women began pushing for
social change to rid themselves from the slavery of traditional womanhood. Though this life
style seems more like imprisonment, some women didn t feel that way, for example my
grandmother Armalene Haxby, was content in her role as the home maker. However we know
that this idea wasn t shared with the rest of American women. The 1960 s was filled with social
reforms and women rights protest meant to free the American women to be equal to their male
counter parts. An excerpt from Betty Friedan s book The Feminine Mystique, gave insight to
some women s outlook on life, I m desperate. I begin to feel I have no personality. I m a server of
food and a putter on of pants and a bed maker, somebody who can be called on when you want
something. But who am I? (Friedan 63) What was it like to be a house wife? Was it in fact

Similarities Between Dracula And Modern Day Society
Are there still connections between Bram Stokers famous novel Dracula and modern day society?
In Dracula, Stoker expands on many themes that indeed exist today. Not only does he touch on the
most obvious theme, sex. He expands on gender division and good versus evil. Some say since
times have changed the themes I introduced have changed as well, leaving connections between
then and now irrelevant. However, I feel that although times have changed they still have roots
from the time of the novel to now. In this essay I will expand on the themes of this novel while
connecting them to modern day society, the critical texts I have chosen and will mention later on in
the essay are a good representation of the commonalities between the chill, dark Victorian days in
which the era that Draculawas written in and modern day. Why does Bram Stoker and many
authors alike make vampires out to be voluptuous and sexy? Is it because it brings light to our
darkest desires? Not in the sense that we desire to feed on another humans blood. But in more of
a dark and sinful kind of way. In society back then and now, sex is still kind of weird to talk and be
open about. Although, sex is more accepted nowadays it is still something you usually do not
discuss. So I believe what drew a large crowd in for Draculawas the fact that it went against the
norms of society. For example, the Jonathan Harker describes the encounter with the three sisters as
ecstasy (Stoker 42). He said that they had

Similarities and Differences in the Aeneid and the Odyssey.
Both the Odyssey and the Aeneid describe the journeys of the two Greek heroes Odysseus and
Aeneas, as they struggle towards their goal through the crises and deadly situations caused by the
wrath of the gods upon them. In the Odyssey, we see that Poseidon (god of the sea/earth shaker)
has a grudge against Odysseuswhile Athena, god of wisdom, aids him throughout his journey.
Similarly in the Aeneid, we see that goddess Juno dislikes Aeneas as he is destined to destroy the
city of Carthage loved by Juno during his mission to find a new land Rome, whereas Aeneas
mother Venus aids him.
In these epics, many points of similarity and differences arise such as the characters of the heroes,

In some serious and important situations, Odysseus is more cunning and intellect than Aeneas.
Something common in the two epics about their journey is that both Odysseus and Aeneas are
distracted from what they are destined for; by the lust and arousal of women obsessed by love. In
the Odyssey, Odysseus is first encountered by Circe s love and then by the over obsession of
Calypso. Circe is an immortal goddess and enchantress who is extremely beautiful and sexy. In
the Aeneid, Aeneas after reaching Carthage meets Dido who is a mortal woman and queen of
Carthage. She is foreign, exotic, mysterious, sexually and politically potent. Talking about
Odysseus, we see that Odysseus is approached by Hermes who warns him against Circe. She
offers Odysseus to have sex with her and it happens. Odysseus now distracted, lives with her on
her island for a year until his comrades remind him of Ithaca. The longest delay in Odysseus
journey is at the island of Calypso. Calypso lives alone on an exotic and beautiful island. After
Odysseus crash lands here, he is rescued by her and held captive for seven years. Calypso loves
Odysseus unconditionally and offers him immortality. Calypso could never impress Odysseus
like Circe did. But in the Aeneid, we see that Aeneas loses sight of his mission of founding Rome
in Italy. Dido makes Aeneas forget about what he is destined for as they fall in love. Both Dido
and Circe keep men away from their

In-Depth Analysis On The Human Condition In English Class
Walking into class the first day of the second semester, I did not expect one thing: that this

mediums broadened the messages in the videos, as it forced me to respond differently to the

definition of ultrasound is energy that is generated by sound waves of 20,000 or greater vibrations

Ultrasound uses sound waves that are too high to be heard by the human ear. A part of the
ultrasound machine called the transducer is placed on the body part and sound waves are emitted
from the transducer and reflected back from organs and tissues. When the wave is sent back to the

Specific Qualities That Make Your Business Successful
2. Literature review.
2.1 Introduction
This literature review will be focused on specific qualities that make your business successful. We
will name both personal (entrepreneur s) and company qualities that could help us to achieve our
goals. This literature review is divided into 3 parts: Be in the Right Industry, Character (personal
qualities) and Company qualities. We will introduce in details content of each of these parts. For
this report we have chosen only relevant information and reliable sources.
2.2 Be in the Right Industry
The first step to a successful business is a right choice of an industry. This is a start point for any
entrepreneur before starting business itself. First of all, we should look on this choice in two
ways: 1) do you see yourself as part of this industry, will it be interesting for you and do you see
yourself successful in this industry, and 2) how successful is this industry nowadays. According to
Mintigo President John Bara, Successful companies tend to be geared towards rapidly growing
industries like software and Internet, computers, financial services, and healthcare. Twenty four
percent of the companies on the list (talking about the 5000 list of the fastest growing companies
according to Inc. magazine) in America are in business services, while 20 percent are in software
and Internet. (Rampton), but in the same time you should remember that it does not matter how
successful industry is, if you do not see yourself as part this industry.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy Eveline S. Arnold and Kenneth H. Fischbeck Neurogenetics Branch,
National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda,
MD, USA Abstract Autosomal recessive proximal spinal muscular atrophy (Werdnig Hoffmann,
Kugelberg Welander) is caused by mutation of the SMN1 gene, and the clinical severity correlates
with the number of copies of a nearly identical gene, SMN2. The SMN protein plays a critical role
in spliceosome assembly and may have other cellular functions such as mRNA transport. Cell

These mice, a severe model from the Arthur Burghes lab at Ohio State University, are either
stillborn or die on average at approximately postnatal day 5 with approximately 40% loss of
motor neurons, representing the severe type I SMA phenotype. As is seen in human patients,
mice with higher copy numbers (more than eight) of the SMN2 transgene were phenotypically
rescued, once again demonstrating that the SMA phenotype could be modified by the number of
copies of SMN2 (Monani et al., 2000). A similar strategy was used to generate SMA mice in the
Hung Li lab in Taiwan (Hsieh Li et al., 2000). In contrast to Burghes severe model, the Hung Li
SMA mice showed a range of phenotypic severity within the same litter, from severe to moderate.
Further studies indicated that this variation in phenotypic severity was likely due to hemi or
homozygous transmission of the transgenic human SMN2 allele on the background of
heterozygous deletion of the Smn1 endogenous allele, thereby producing mice expressing varying
copy numbers of the transgene (Gogliotti et al., 2010). Building on the development of the Burghes
severe model, mice expressing a SMNпЃ„7 transgene in addition to full length SMN2 were also
produced (Smn1 / ;SMN2tg/tg;SMNпЃ„7tg/tg). Introduction of the SMNпЃ„7 allele extended the
life span of affected mice from approximately five days to approximately thirteen days (Le et al.,
2005) and indicated that SMN produced from the SMN2 locus could be a valid therapeutic target.
To date, the two most commonly used mouse models are the Smn1 / ;SMN2tg/tg;SMNпЃ„7tg/tg
(SMAпЃ„7 mice) and the Smn1hung / ;SMN2Hungtg/tg (Hung Li SMA mice), which both have an
average survival of approximately 13 days and recapitulate the clinical manifestations and

Crime Rates In America
In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This
perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies
heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern
society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports.
These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In
addition these reports record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of
criminal trends, the volume of crimes committed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by
police. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which
resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been
reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute
due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still
contribute to our society s criminality.
Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white
collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape,
Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white
collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of
product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend
to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to
believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming
disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form
of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011).
In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to

Theodore Roosevelt And The Roosevelt Center
Theodore Roosevelt during his life would spend time in North Dakota to hunt buffalo and settled
in a ranch there for some years as he found a renowned interest in the area he called his second
home . In 2005, Dickinson State University (DSU) began to explore the legacy of the 26th
President as a tribute to his historical legacy and admiration to the territory that the university
resides today. As a result the Theodore RooseveltCenter was founded in 2007 at the university. In
essence the Theodore Roosevelt Center was founded to manage Roosevelt s archives as like many
prior presidents, he did not have an established presidential library. Many of his papers were
scattered in archives around the country including the Library of Congress, Harvard University,
six national parks, and in smaller collections at numerous other repositories. In 2008, DSU began
a partnership with the Library of Congress to digitize the Library s vast holdings related to
Theodore Roosevelt, with the intent to make them freely available online. Its broad audience scope
is to attract everyone from scholars and schoolchildren, enthusiasts and interested citizens and to
provide well organized high quality reference material to enthusiastic seekers of our 16th president.
The physical library is expected to open in 2019 but is available online.
Recognizing the significance of the contributions being made by Dickinson State University in
preserving and promoting Roosevelt s legacy, in the spring of 2013 the

Alternate Dispute Resolution at Darden Restaurants and...
ADR at Darden Restaurants and Hooters of America
More companies are turning to alternate dispute resolution (ADR) as an alterative to the judicial
system for settling employee disputes. There are some clear advantages and disadvantages to
ADR for both employers and employees. The best designed ADR programs are those that are fair
and impartial. A good ADR program should seek to find the best possible outcome for both parties
while saving time and money and preserving relationships. The least effective ADR programs tend
to be unfair and perpetuate the imbalance and bargaining power discrepancy frequently found in
employer employee relationships.
In this paper, I will compare the ADR programs of Darden Restaurants and Hooters of ... Show

The court has determined that the Darden program appears to meet the legal tests for ADR. It is
important to note that Darden does not expect to reduce expenses via reduction in the payout of
damages and compensation to employees with legitimate claims; rather, their expected cost savings
lies in reducing court related fees.
In stark contrast, Hooters ADR program is a one sided agenda designed to help the company win
arbitration cases and save time and money. The ADR program takes advantage of the company s
superior bargaining power: employees must sign the agreement to arbitrate disputes in order to be
eligible for raises, transfers, and promotions. Employees are allowed only five days to review and
decide if they will accept or reject the agreement.
Hooters ADR agreement states that the company has the right to change the rules and procedures
at any time even while in the midst of an arbitration proceeding without notice. In addition, the
rules require employees to disclose their cases to the company, along with a list of witnesses and a
record of facts known to each witness. Hooters, meanwhile, is not required to reciprocate by
disclosing the details of its defense. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
summed it up by stating that the Hooters rules are so one sided that their only

Mental Health Is A Never Ending Concern For The American...
Mental Health is a never ending concern for the American population due to the lack of data. This
lack of date fails to give accurate information and better understanding on seeing how suffers of
mental health illness is being addressed. Due to the unpredictability of when a mental illness may
strike would be the leading factor to fully link how to predict and quickly find corrective resources
to better educated, or reach the right people to better manage their mental health. Therefore, many
communities suffer from mental health illness and like the Native American, and Alaskan Native it
has become an epidemic and concern. The Native American Population in the states are twice at
high risk with mental health and go untreated, leading to high rate of suicides and attempts on
American soil.
Health issues and population
Native American and Alaskan Natives are victims of this slightly unpredictable disease. Native
Americans and Alaskan Natives together make up one third of United States youth population. They
play a big role in American youth and Native American/Alaskan Natives score the highest with
suicidal deaths in the United States. They are the only population in the nation that have not
received any relief, or focus on preventing suicides and treating mental health. According to
Alcantara, C., Gone, J.P., (2007). Nonetheless, this newfound emphasis on suicideprevention efforts
has been slow to reach the Native American communities at highest risk, and hopeful

Forecasting Is A Critical Function Of Revenue Management...
Background
Forecasting is a critical function of revenue management and strategical planning for businesses.
With the help of historical information, forecasting allows businesses to anticipate changing market
trends, predict product demand and manage the costs of inventory (Lambert, 2011). While
forecasting has many applications and is utilized in numerous trades, this research focuses on
forecasting within the airline industry. In this context, the emphasis is on forecasting to optimize
profit, by anticipating demand and adjusting capacity needs and prices accordingly.
There are many variables that need to be taken into consideration when forecasting in the airline
business, such as deciding on the size of the fleet, choosing the ... Show more content on

This analysis will propose different alternatives to minimize forecasting errors, while reducing
operational costs and maximizing profits.
Solution#1: Utilizing a global distribution system (GDS) that provides accurate and real time data
could enable airlines to cut costs by planning and allocating resources more efficiently. A GDS is
basically a reservation system that connects and collects data from airlines, hotels and other travel
service reservation systems. One of such system is SABRE (Semi Automatic Business Research
Environment), which among the many functions is capable of calculating oil prices, the most
efficient routes for flights, as well as estimating last minute available seating on flights, tourism
trends, determining the best size of the aircraft to use for specific routes, and how much freight to
put on a flight. The use of a system like SABRE could help reduce the costs of flying airplanes
with empty seats, maximize cargo capacity on each flight, calculate and adjust pricing according to
cost such as oil prices, reduce downtime and improve passenger satisfaction through more frequent
on time arrivals and departures. It could also improve the efficiency of maintenance operations by
recording and transmitting data about performance issues while the aircraft is still in the air. By
identifying the mechanical issues

An evaluation will be made of Clause 35 of Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars. Accordingly, an
explanation will be made of the legal rules which relate to exclusion clauses with reference to the
Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Sale of Goods Act 1979.
Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by
statute. Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in
bargaining power, such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such
regulatory legislation is the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which
govern seller implied terms. Afrosa is dealing with Foghorn Cars standard form contract.
Section 2(1) SGA 1979 outlines that Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars is governed by the act
as it is a contract by which the Foghorn Cars has agreed to transfer property, that is, vehicles for
a price paid by Afrosa. Sections 13 and 14 SGA 1979 imply terms which are particularly
relevant. Section 13(1) relates to sale by description and stipulates that the goods sold must
correspond to the description in the contract. There is no evidence in the facts to suggest that
Foghorn Cars drew Afrosa s attention to any defects in the goods. Therefore there should be no
reason for the goods to be defective regardless of the timeframe involved. Section 14(2) relates to
the quality of the goods sold and stipulates that the goods must be of satisfactory quality . Despite

Live Musical Performances Essay
This semester I have experience many live musical performances. Some of these performances
have let me down but for the most part, these performances have been everything I ever expected.
My two favorite performances this semester were Festival Vallenato and Ultra Music Festival.
Although these two types of music are different in every way possible, the people and the
performers are exactly where I feel I am in the right place.
Both of these events were held in Bayfront Park. This is a very famous location to host events like
Festival Vallenatoand Ultra Music Festival. Bayfront Park is located 301 north Biscayne Boulevard
Miami, Florida. This park is home to events year round.
The park began construction in 1924 and was officially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vallenatos are typical Colombian music that has been spreading throughout the world in the course
of many years. Vallenatos are considered Colombian folk music.
This type of music usually consists of only three traditional instruments that are the caja vallenata,
the guacharaca, and the accordion. A caja vallenata is a small drum held between the knees and
played with bare hands. The caja vallenata is similar to a tambora drum. The guacharaca is a
wooden, ribbed stick similar to a sugar cane, accompanied by a fork that when rubbed together
emits a scraping sound. The accordion is a three line button, German origin accordion. It has three
reeds per note and it comes in different tones. Accordions in Colombia and Panama sometimes have
custom made tones especially made for Vallenato. Festival Vallenato was no exception; the three
traditional instruments were used by each one of the performers in all their sets. Throughout the
day all the artists that I saw performing came onto the stage with the same instruments.
Festival Vallenato has been going on for eight years counting this one. In Festival Vallenato 2012
very famous artists like Martin Elias Diaz, Silvestre Dangond, and Felipe Pelaez performed
throughout the day followed and headed by other successful Vallenato artists.
Martian Elias Diaz was born June 18, 1990 in Valledupar. Mr. Diaz was born in an artistic family

Persuasive Essay On Portugal
Since 2001, Portugal has prioritized harm reduction in drug abuse and have treated addiction as a
health issues instead of a crime issue. Many believe that this policy has reduced drug addiction,
but others feel that it has encouraged the use of illegal drugs. I believe that Portugal is taking the
wrong stance against drugs and should be viewing them in a criminal manner. This policy can be
supported in historical context via the burning of opium by the Chinese government and by the use
of methamphetamine by German soldiers in World War II.The Chinese government was struggling
to ban opium smoking recreationally and by 1729 the deemed it only legal to smoke for medical
purposes. Despite these efforts, opium use was increasing significantly... Show more content on

Their ignorance as a government in the 1730 s led them to take extreme steps to stop the illegal
trade by burning the British opium and trying to destroy the British ships in the 1830 s. China s
justification for allowing opium to be legal in 1729 can be viewed as the root of the opium
wars. The unprecedented casualties of World War I brought the need for treatment of acute and
chronic pain. This inspired the Weimar and Nazi governments to adopt an attitude of tolerance
toward the use of drugs to relieve pain, increase performance, and avoid withdrawal. Most drugs
were permitted either universally or for individuals with a medical prescription. Thus, Drug use in
the German military during World War II was actively encouraged and widespread, especially
during the war s later stages as their military became depleted and increasingly dependent on youth
as opposed to experience. The German army ordered soldiers to take military issue pills made from
methamphetamine. The aftermath of this war was devastating because the soldiers who survived
returned home addicted to meth and resorted to the illegal consumption of the

Looking For Alibrandi Challenges
Life in general is full of facing challenges. As the saying goes, What doesn t kill you makes you
stronger. So then why do we all, when faced with an unpleasant situation, try to find the easy way
out and not tackle down the obstacles and all the suffering? People stop trying because they
believe that their hardship will never end so they put up with it and suffer more than they have to.
However they don t understand that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel and that you
might be struggling now but it will always be brighter and greater on the other side, you just need
to find your way to it. Our society is always changing. Different generations of people include

Action Research in Od
ACTION RESEARCH ORG. MIRRORING IN OD
Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working
with others in teams or as part of a community of practice to improve the way they address issues
and solve problems. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions,
assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices,
and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. Kurt lewin described action

adjustments in learning activities can be made. Minor adjustments of this nature can be made in
learning activities via Feedback Loop B (see Figure)

.Major adjustments and reevaluations would return the OD project to the first, or planning,
stage for basic changes in the program. The action research model shown in Figure 1 closely
follows Lewin s repetitive cycle of planning, action, and measuring results. It also illustrates
other aspects of Lewin s general model of change. As indicated in the diagram, the planning
stage is a period of unfreezing, or problem awareness. The action stage is a period of changing,
that is, trying out new forms of behavior in an effort to understand and cope with the system s
problems. (There is inevitable overlap between the stages, since the boundaries are not clear cut
and cannot be in a continuous process). The results stage is a period of refreezing, in which new
behaviors are tried out on the job and, if successful and reinforcing, become a part of the system s
repertoire of problem solving behavior.Action research is problem centered, client centered, and
action oriented. It involves the client system in a diagnostic, active learning, problem finding, and
problem solving process. Data are not simply returned in the form of a written report but

  • 2. Implementing A Major Zone Reorganization ( Rosenberg ) Christine was in charge of implementing a major zone reorganization (Rosenberg, 2003, p. 262). Unfortunately, that was half the battle, Christine priority mission and focus was Deregulation . This meaning is the reduction or elimination of government power in a particular industry, usually enacted to create more competition within the industry. (Francis, J. 2003 2016) stated, Deregulation can cause weaker, smaller organizations to be forced out of the market . This translates to loss of jobs. Adding on to her plate, Christine had to figure the changing and possible combination of the four offices along with the different cultures. She is very knowledgeable of the industry especially after working for one of the top notch insurancecompanies. This change has made it difficult for Christine, she has combine four offices into one. Combining these offices would require a few cost cutting moves. After the short notice of this change, Christine realized the challenge of transitioning and combining her managers to develop the best strategy for the upcoming move. In the insurance industry, the first regulation took place in the 1850 s. By then many insurers had to gamble with prices to get on top of their competitors. These insurers were providing coverage and protection for customers dealing with disabilities and workers compensation. (Rosenberg, S. 2003, p.263) stated, Changes in the way people live and work necessitated new coverages. With deregulation creating a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Unequal Distribution Of Wealth And Power Across The Nation Living in America, I have always been aware of fact that there is an unequal distribution of wealth and power across the nation. However, I was unaware that there is such a significant gap between the rich and the poor. It was made clear in the video Wealth Inequality in America , that the top 1% has more power and wealth than the middle and poor classes. The rich can get away with not paying their taxes and sitting on their pile of free money. In the meantime, the poorest people are down to the loose change in their pockets and are still paying their taxes. Corporations today have more privileges in America, including a voice in the democracy. People like us are being excluded from important decision making regarding our economic lives. Our understanding of what s going on with the wealth distribution and the actuality of what s going on is two completely different things. So you may ask, what s the reason behind this inequality? The answer is corporations and big businesses. Corporations such as Bank of America, Nike, Google, Apple, and Microsoft are rising to power. Corporations have also completely diminished the original intent of our Founding Fathers. According to Collin and Yeskel s Economic Apartheid in America , it s sad to say that many Americans are unaware of these things and it s starting to affect us as a country day by day. But while the truth of the economy may be difficult to understand, Collins, Yeskel, and Perkins clarified and changed my views on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paleolithic and Neolithic people were known as cavemen. Neolithic people had better technology than Paleolithic people. Additionally, The Neolithic and Paleolithic people use tools to survive. Paleolithic people use tools so they can hunt, gather food, build houses, and make clothes. The Paleolithic people s tools were constructed out of stone. Neolithic people use tools for farming. The tools were constructed out of rocks and copper then they advanced their tools by mixing rock with copper. People these days call rocks mixed with copper is called bronze. • 5. Cinematography Is an Integral Part of Motion Pictures Essay C. Cinematography The term cinematography is interconnected with the concept of still photography, but is an integral part of motion pictures. Within this context, Russell Carpenter s role as the cinematographer of the film Titanic is important. For instance, his attitude towards cinematography, especially his tireless effort to attain perfection contributed to the success of the film. In the film, Carpenter s co operation with art department and visual effects department deeply influenced his role in the film as a cinematographer. During the production of the film, Cameron s initial idea did not clash with Carpenter s personal idea on cinematography. To be specific, working with Cameron was helpful for Carpenter as a... On the other side, long shots provide importance to the sinking of the ship. E. Sound In the initial stages of the production of the film Titanic, Cameron was not ready to use any song. When he listened to the song My Heart Will Go On sung by Celine Dion, he changed his mind and decided to use the same in his film. One can see that this song is one of the elements behind the commercial success of the film as an international hit. The film s musical element is contributed by James Roy Horner. One can see that Horner s music is deeply influenced by Celtic music. Besides, Horner was deeply interested to inculcate electronic elements to film music. From a different angle of view, the sound effect in the film leads the viewers from peace to chaos and vice versa. In addition, the sound effects contributed much to the commercial success and international fame of the film. One can see that sound designing is an integral part of the sound effects in a film. Within the context of sound designing of the film Titanic, Chris Boyes s contribution is noteworthy because he was keenly interested to inculcate natural sound to the sound track. Some of the important scenes in the film (Titanic hitting the iceberg and sinking into the Ocean) prove Boyle as a successful sound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. • Describe The Structures And Locations Of The Penis,... 25.Describe the structures and locations of the glans penis, crus, bulb, and prepuce. The penis is the male organ through which sperm cells are transferred from the male to the female. The penis contains three columns of erectile tissue. Engorgement of this erectile tissue with blood causes the penis to enlarge and become firm this process is called erection. Two of the erectile columns form the dorsum and sides of the penis and are called the corpora cavernosa. The third column, the corpus spongiosum, forms the ventral portion of the penis. It expands to form a cap over the distal end of the penis. The spongy urethra passes through the corpus spongiosum, penetrates the glans penis, and opens as the external urethral orifice. • 7. Women s Lack Of Respect For Female Characters In Sherman Alexie s Flight, female characters are objectified and reduced to simple roles because their primary purpose in the narrative is to display their sexuality for the gratification of the men. Before his affair is revealed, Jimmy is seduced by his young lover: Jimmy sits on the floor. He grabs a piece of fried chicken, a leg, and takes a bite. It s a little dry. So, okay, Helda isn t much of a cook. But that s okay. That s perfectly okay. Because she turns on a CD player and starts dancing. She dances for Jimmy! Dances for me! (Alexie 116). The passage is a representation of the book s lack of respect for female characters because Alexie relegates Helda to a place of little significance in order to create more space for Jimmy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is even worse when the female characters are openly disrespected by the thoughts of the male characters. The value judgments of Helda through the descriptions reinforce the narrative s male gaze because Helda s worth as a human is evaluated by her ability to provide others with food and sex. Helda, along with most other women in this story, do not have complex emotions or backgrounds, and the fleeting glimpses into their existences are nearly exclusively related to an interaction with a man. Since women do not have a role apart from their male counterparts, how they are viewed is essential to understanding the women themselves. Unfortunately, women are valued with confining and stereotypically feminine attributes, like being sexy and good cooks. It is okay that Helda s chicken is dry; she can be forgiven because she s hot when she dances for Jimmy. Jimmy and Zits perceive Helda s actions as solely existing for their pleasure, hence the for, and they base her worth on her effect on others, without any regard to her own individual humanity. The male gaze in this book is egregious, to a truly absurd degree, because women are never allowed to be their own people; their entire existences revolve around the presence, thoughts, and criticisms of men. In addition to the content of the passage, the form also propagates the notion that women only exist to bring pleasure to nearby men. Nearly every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of The Book For The Sake Of Posterity Einhard, a German raised in the Carolingian court of Charlemagne wrote a vita as a tribute to his king around 825 826 called The Life of Charlemagne after the kings death. He wrote this book either at Charlemagne s son King Louis court or at one of his numerous properties throughout the Frankish kingdom. Based on the didactic nature of the document and Einhard s own saying that the book is for the sake of posterity it is likely that his writing was either meant as a historical book concerning the life of King Charlemagneto be used by further generations or, more likely based on the type of information provided, meant to be a guide for future kings such as Louis on how to be a good and proper king of as high a quality as the highly praised Charlemagne. Einhard was the foster son of Louis father, Charlemagne, and it appears that Einhard was trying to use their mutual father figure to set an example for Louis because Louis kingdom was unstable. However, courtiers of the time knew that they could not outright insult King Louis actions, therefore Einhard needed a way to communicate his constructive criticisms to the king without being forthright about his contempt for Louis and his behaviour. The careful courtier Einhard, while writing The Life of Charlemagne tried to make Charlemagne appear to be a strong leader as well as a friendly person in general but, flattery aside, his writing suggests that Charlemagne was in fact controlling, relentless, ferocious, and aggressive. ... • 9. Catch-22 Literary Analysis War, it stripes people of their sanity and ethics, still it is considered a catalyst for change. In the novel Catch 22 by Joseph Heller it tells the story of a twenty eight year old bombardier stationed in world war two, set in a fictional island, Pianosa, somewhere in Italy. There are many opinions on war, there are pacifists, those who are willing to fight, and those who refuse to be involved even though it is very much needed. Although war may be necessary for self defense, it is by no means virtuous and has in fact affected the mental health of many like Yossarion. War is many things; malevolent, economically challenging, and controversial, but nevertheless it is necessary. In spite of the fact that Joseph Hellerdepicts the characters similar to Colonel Cathcart as an opposing factor, they do notice the importance of their role in the war, unlike Yossarion. Consequently, if the veterans don t acknowledge their importance then our progress as a nation will fail to proceed, our economic gain will suffer, over population will occur (worse than it already is), and our territory and freedom will be purloined, I m not running away from my responsibilities. I m running to them. There s nothing negative about running away to save my life. • 10. What You Should Eat Will Stir Anxiety Life can be confusing while at the top of the food chain. For most animals, eating is simply habitual and is a subconscious choice. Monarch butterflies eat milkweed, koalas go for the eucalyptus leaves, and whales chow down on plankton. But we homo sapiens, hindered by a big brain and inventions such as agriculture and industry, face a bewildering array of choices, from scrambled eggs to Chicken McNuggets, from a bowl of fresh blueberries to the chemically complex yellow and white log of sweet, spongy foodproduct known as the mystical Twinkie. When you can eat just about anything nature has to offer, Michael Pollanwrites in this thoughtful, engrossing new book, The Omnivore s Dilemma, deciding what you should eat will inevitably stir anxiety. Nowhere is this anxiety more drastic, Pollan says, than in the United States. Wealth, abundance and the lack of a steadying, centuries old food culture have conspired to make Americans dysfunctional eaters. We are obsessed with getting thin while becoming ever more fat, lurching from one bogus bit of dietary wisdom to another. Pollan diagnoses a national eating disorder, and he aims to shed light on both its causes and some potential solutions. In order to achieve this, he embarks on four separate eating adventures, each of which starts at the very beginning in the soil from which the raw materials of his dinners will emerge and ends with a cooked, finished meal. These meals are, in order, a McDonald s repast consumed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Stephen Jay Gould Nonmoral Nature Evil in Nature and a Benevolent God The idea of the existence of evil in nature many times creates arguments between creationists and scientists concerning not only the design of nature by a creator God, but the actual benevolence of God. In Stephen Jay Gould s essay Nonmoral Nature (1984), he explores this highly controversial issue by posing the question: If God is good and if creation reveals his goodness, why are we surrounded with pain, suffering, and apparently senseless cruelty in the animal world? He uses the life span of the parasitic ichneumon wasp to illustrate a scientific view that the concept of evil is limited to human beings and that the world of nature is unconcerned with it. Chaos began to creep into their physical world. William Kirby (1835) wrote in one of the famous Bridgewater Treatises on natural theology that God created fleas, lice, and intestinal parasites after the fall of Adam and Eve. It was also after the fall of man that he became aware that nature as beneficial and beautiful as God had created it, also had a cruel and dangerous side. The once perfect world had no pathogenic organisms. Bacteria for example, played a purely beneficial role in the ecology of paradise. Even in the Garden of Eden, there had to be some type of garbage or refuse. Flower petals and fallen fruit would litter the ground unless some microbial force broke them down into useful organic matter. However, after man s fall, strains of bacteria became toxic and man realized that accidentally eating toxic plants could kill him, there were disease epidemics, and major struggles to protect his food crop from disease, plant and animal pests (Wheeler, Gerald). Not long after that did the violence of man evolve and spread throughout the land. Another crisis stressed the earth s ecology as a result of man s corruption, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once accomplished, improvement in overall operating margins will follow. The world of the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) continues to expand From the end of 2012 to the end of 2013, the number of public and private sector ACOs increased by 203 percent. The limited understanding physicians have of the risk based payment models, in conjunction with their inherent risk aversion, make accepting these approaches difficult; thus, hindering the possibility for an increase in higher value care. Additionally, they have a limited understanding of the ways their behavior influences inefficiency and waste. The McKinsey Company study states that, health systems and health plans should develop a true capacity in physician engagement, which is much broader than, and does not necessarily include employment. Misogyny In Barometer Rising By Hugh Maclennan The historical fiction novel of Barometer rising by Hugh MacLennan is a book that takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the early 20th century during the time of the first world war. Consequently, many of the actions taken place within the novel and the atmosphere of the novel match both this time period and the location in which the noveltakes place. This 20th century atmosphere becomes exceptionally apparent through the misogyny and hardships the female protagonist Penny Wain faces. In this debate her uncle Alfred argued that due to ship engineering being a job that is predominantly male orientated Pennys design could not possibly be of a good quality. Following these remarks Penny would then try to calm the situation by saying If it makes anyone feel any better, I don t deserve any credit, the whole idea was Neils. This shows Pennys reluctance to accept credit for her extraordinary work and rather give credit to a man in order to abide within the misogynistic societal expectations of the time. These expectations being that men were supposed to be the intellectuals while women could not possibly be successful in a white collared environment due to their lack of intellect. With this in mind, the prejudice that Penny faces in this scene is highlighted from comments made by the narrator in an earlier chapter of the book. • 19. Roles Of Women In Roman Women In my civilization of Rome, women in society have the duty of taking care of the home and family. Love has almost nothing to do with a Roman marriage. It exists so that wives may produce children to be heirs to their father s property. Every man wants a son to care for them in old age and eventually take over the estate, since there are no retirement homes or pension plans. Age fourteen is an average age for a young girl to get married. Women have weak judgment, so they are prohibited from attending, speaking in, or voting at political assemblies. They also cannot hold any governmental position. Egypt treats its women very differently in comparison to my civilization. Egyptians believe that joy and happiness are legitimate goals of life and take home and family very seriously. Women of Egypt are almost completely equal to men in regards to the law. They can own property, borrow money, sign contracts, and initiate divorce. The men and women here love children, and do not conceive children just to produce an heir to property. We Romans have a practical attitude towards religion. The upper elite classes hold the priesthood positions. There is no separation of church and state. • 20. The Occupational Safety and Health Act The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 heralded a new era in the history of public efforts to protect workers from harm on the job. This Act established for the first time a nationwide, federal program to protect almost the entire work force from job related death, injury and illness, (MacLaury). Occupational health and safety awareness pre dates OSHA by decades, though, and it is important to place the administration within its historical context. The Industrial Revolution in the late nineteenth century proceeded like a locomotive, without any barrier or restriction. However, working conditions became increasingly dangerous. Social and political activism spawned the labor movements that led to early occupational safety regulations. As United States Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration states, the nation s first occupational safety regulations were passed in Massachusetts in 1877. Several states followed suit, paving the way for the United States Department of Labor to take federal action. Special investigator for the Department of Labor, Alice Hamilton, conducted some of the first forma surveys of factories and other industrial workplaces. Flood myths are found not only in the current religious doctrines of near eastern societies, but also in those of the ancient civilizations of the world, ranging from the remnants of Ancient Greek and Mesopotamian tablets to the oral traditions of the Maya and Chinese. Of over 500 flood legends from a multitude of different cultures, it seems the most ancient accounts of the Great Deluge date back to the Epic of Gilgamesh from the Ancient Sumerian Civilization. Two of the most popular religions, Christianity and Hinduism, also have accounts of such a devastating flood in their religious scriptures. Michael Brown in Ferguson, Eric Garner in Staten Island, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Walter Scott in North Charleston and, most recently, Freddie Gray in Baltimore have dominated the headlines this entire school year. These men and their stories provide the basis for claims of racially discriminatory treatment of African Americans at the hands of the police. It is true that each of the stories surrounding these men is different, but the one unifying theme is that police around the country are interpreting our Constitutional rights in a way that is insufficient to protect African Americans and the population in general. This paper will explore one Constitutional right the 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable search and seizures and examine how one Supreme Court decision that narrowed the scope of the 4th Amendment and unintentionally created a mechanism by which the rights of citizens could be unfairly impeded by police. What are the differences between white and brown dwarfs and why do we study them? Are there multiple ways for a star to form or is there only one? When the core of a massive star experiences a huge gravitational collapse, the end of its life only starts another s. During this process, protons and electrons are packed together so tightly, that they leave behind a neutron star. These stars and many others form in a variety of ways. In order for the neutron star to form, neutron degeneracy must halt the collapse. Although this is true for many stellar masses, those less than about 1.44 solar masses form white dwarfs when the collapse is ceased by electron degeneracy. Despite the name, brown dwarfs are not very similar to white dwarfs. Each form very differently, for a brown dwarf is considered a failed star to many scientists. From marriage, sexuality, reproduction, and motherhood a woman was expected to follow a pre destined order and timeline in life to complete these tasks. The expectation of women at the time was to marry young, 18 24, and quickly start a familywhere she would devote her life to raising children and housekeeping. Wives of the time period shouldered the responsibilities of child care and home making, while men were expected to merely work, come home to a clean house and dinner, and then slip off to bed. • 33. Similarities Between Dracula And Modern Day Society Are there still connections between Bram Stokers famous novel Dracula and modern day society? In Dracula, Stoker expands on many themes that indeed exist today. Not only does he touch on the most obvious theme, sex. He expands on gender division and good versus evil. Some say since times have changed the themes I introduced have changed as well, leaving connections between then and now irrelevant. However, I feel that although times have changed they still have roots from the time of the novel to now. In this essay I will expand on the themes of this novel while connecting them to modern day society, the critical texts I have chosen and will mention later on in the essay are a good representation of the commonalities between the chill, dark Victorian days in which the era that Draculawas written in and modern day. Why does Bram Stoker and many authors alike make vampires out to be voluptuous and sexy? Is it because it brings light to our darkest desires? Not in the sense that we desire to feed on another humans blood. But in more of a dark and sinful kind of way. In society back then and now, sex is still kind of weird to talk and be open about. Although, sex is more accepted nowadays it is still something you usually do not discuss. So I believe what drew a large crowd in for Draculawas the fact that it went against the norms of society. This is a start point for any entrepreneur before starting business itself. First of all, we should look on this choice in two ways: 1) do you see yourself as part of this industry, will it be interesting for you and do you see yourself successful in this industry, and 2) how successful is this industry nowadays. According to Mintigo President John Bara, Successful companies tend to be geared towards rapidly growing industries like software and Internet, computers, financial services, and healthcare. Fischbeck Neurogenetics Branch, National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA Abstract Autosomal recessive proximal spinal muscular atrophy (Werdnig Hoffmann, Kugelberg Welander) is caused by mutation of the SMN1 gene, and the clinical severity correlates with the number of copies of a nearly identical gene, SMN2. The SMN protein plays a critical role in spliceosome assembly and may have other cellular functions such as mRNA transport. Cell culture and animal models have helped to define the disease mechanism and to identify targets for therapeutic intervention. The main focus for developing treatment has been to increase... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These mice, a severe model from the Arthur Burghes lab at Ohio State University, are either stillborn or die on average at approximately postnatal day 5 with approximately 40% loss of motor neurons, representing the severe type I SMA phenotype. As is seen in human patients, mice with higher copy numbers (more than eight) of the SMN2 transgene were phenotypically rescued, once again demonstrating that the SMA phenotype could be modified by the number of copies of SMN2 (Monani et al., 2000). A similar strategy was used to generate SMA mice in the Hung Li lab in Taiwan (Hsieh Li et al., 2000). In contrast to Burghes severe model, the Hung Li SMA mice showed a range of phenotypic severity within the same litter, from severe to moderate. Further studies indicated that this variation in phenotypic severity was likely due to hemi or homozygous transmission of the transgenic human SMN2 allele on the background of heterozygous deletion of the Smn1 endogenous allele, thereby producing mice expressing varying copy numbers of the transgene (Gogliotti et al., 2010). Building on the development of the Burghes severe model, mice expressing a SMNпЃ„7 transgene in addition to full length SMN2 were also produced (Smn1 / ;SMN2tg/tg;SMNпЃ„7tg/tg). Introduction of the SMNпЃ„7 allele extended the life span of affected mice from approximately five days to approximately thirteen days (Le et al., 2005) and indicated that SMN produced from the SMN2 locus could be a valid therapeutic target. To date, the two most commonly used mouse models are the Smn1 / ;SMN2tg/tg;SMNпЃ„7tg/tg (SMAпЃ„7 mice) and the Smn1hung / ;SMN2Hungtg/tg (Hung Li SMA mice), which both have an average survival of approximately 13 days and recapitulate the clinical manifestations and neuropathology of intermediate type II SMA ... Maysonet CJA/204 08 April 2013 Prof. Ron Alter Crime Rates In America In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports. These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still contribute to our society s criminality. Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape, Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011). It is important to note that Darden does not expect to reduce expenses via reduction in the payout of damages and compensation to employees with legitimate claims; rather, their expected cost savings lies in reducing court related fees. In stark contrast, Hooters ADR program is a one sided agenda designed to help the company win arbitration cases and save time and money. The ADR program takes advantage of the company s superior bargaining power: employees must sign the agreement to arbitrate disputes in order to be eligible for raises, transfers, and promotions. Employees are allowed only five days to review and decide if they will accept or reject the agreement. Hooters ADR agreement states that the company has the right to change the rules and procedures at any time even while in the midst of an arbitration proceeding without notice. Accordingly, an explanation will be made of the legal rules which relate to exclusion clauses with reference to the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and Sale of Goods Act 1979. Terms may be implied into a contract in a number of ways. Primarily terms may be implied by statute. Legislation may be implemented to protect parties where there may be inequality in bargaining power, such as dealing with companies standard form contracts. An example of such regulatory legislation is the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (SGA 1979) particularly sections 12 15 which govern seller implied terms. Afrosa is dealing with Foghorn Cars standard form contract. Section 2(1) SGA 1979 outlines that Afrosa s contract with Foghorn Cars is governed by the act as it is a contract by which the Foghorn Cars has agreed to transfer property, that is, vehicles for a price paid by Afrosa. Sections 13 and 14 SGA 1979 imply terms which are particularly relevant. Section 13(1) relates to sale by description and stipulates that the goods sold must correspond to the description in the contract. There is no evidence in the facts to suggest that Foghorn Cars drew Afrosa s attention to any defects in the goods. A caja vallenata is a small drum held between the knees and played with bare hands. The caja vallenata is similar to a tambora drum. The guacharaca is a wooden, ribbed stick similar to a sugar cane, accompanied by a fork that when rubbed together emits a scraping sound. Many believe that this policy has reduced drug addiction, but others feel that it has encouraged the use of illegal drugs. I believe that Portugal is taking the wrong stance against drugs and should be viewing them in a criminal manner. This policy can be supported in historical context via the burning of opium by the Chinese government and by the use of methamphetamine by German soldiers in World War II.The Chinese government was struggling to ban opium smoking recreationally and by 1729 the deemed it only legal to smoke for medical purposes. Their ignorance as a government in the 1730 s led them to take extreme steps to stop the illegal trade by burning the British opium and trying to destroy the British ships in the 1830 s. China s justification for allowing opium to be legal in 1729 can be viewed as the root of the opium wars. The unprecedented casualties of World War I brought the need for treatment of acute and chronic pain. This inspired the Weimar and Nazi governments to adopt an attitude of tolerance toward the use of drugs to relieve pain, increase performance, and avoid withdrawal. Most drugs were permitted either universally or for individuals with a medical prescription.
