Argumentative Essay On Fake News
Believe Nothing, Question Everything Bat child found in cave! Elvis is alive! Titanic survivors found
onboard! These are all examples of headlines you may have seen in a nineties supermarket magazine
such as The Weekly World News or The National Enquirer. These classic fake news magazines had
and still have a cult following Most readers of these magazines enjoy the cheesiness of them and are
well aware of their lack of validity. Now fake news appears on our social media outlets. Many of the
perpetrators of fake news don t try to hide it and a quick look at their domain name will be a dead
giveaway. However, some individuals would rather disguise their domain to look like a reputable
source such as CBS or NPR. Something must be done about this problem, fake news has the potential
to shape opinions and control politics. Think of the Edgar Allan Poe quote believe nothing you hear
and only half of what you see . This statement reigns more true today than ever before. In this world
of fake news, it is the responsibility of the reader to separate truth from fiction. So why do people
write fake news? Some articles seem to be written specifically out of boredom and for the
entertainment of its readers. These articles should be specified as satire but are at times written as if
they were legitimate news stories. These are generally far fetched and can be disproven with a quick
google search if that is even necessary. The next reason is a bit more ominous: to stir panic and push

Life and works of John Steinnbeck Essay
John Steinbeck was probably the best author of all time. He was the winner of a Nobel Prize, and
along with many other accomplishments, Steinbeck wrote twenty five books, including sixteen novels,
six non fiction books and several collections of short stories during his lifetime. Seventeen of his
works, including The Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row, The Pearl, and East of Eden, went on to become
Hollywood films, some appeared multiple times, as remakes. Steinbeck also had some success as a
Hollywood writer, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Story in 1944 for Alfred
Hitchcock s Lifeboat. Many of his life experiences are shown through his novels. Someone can tell, by

Also during the time he spent outdoors, he began farming in the Salinas Valley. Mostly Salinas Valley

in Salinas Valley, on February 27, 1902 from German and Irish decent. His father was the county s
treasurer and his mother who was a school teacher nurtured John s ability to read and write. In 1919
Steinbeck graduated from Salinas High School and later attended Stanford University. Originally an
English major, he pursued a program of independent study. During this time at the University he
worked at various jobs and left Stanford permanently in 1925, without a degree, in order to pursue his
writing career in New York. He failed at getting any of his writing published and then returned back to
California, as a resort handyman in Lake Tahoe. His first novel, Cup of Gold, about the pirate Henry
Morgan who had captured Steinbeck s imagination as a child, was finally published in 1929, but
received little attention. His two following novels, The Pastures of Heaven and To a God Unknown,
were also somewhat unnoticed by the literary world. In 1930 Steinbeck married his first wife Carol
Henning. They both lived in Pacific Grove where a large amount of the material was influenced for
Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row. Tortilla Flat, published in 1935 marked the turning point in Steinbeck s
career. For Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck received the California Commonwealth Club s Gold Medal

Why The Company s Leadership Is Different From Other...
The four season hotel cares about their internal customers and external customers. Why the company s
leadership is different from other hospitality businesses, here are several reasons. First, four season
hotel has their Golden Rule to obey, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It means
treat other people with the concern and kindness you would like them to show toward you. This
Golden Rule brings a bunch advantages to four season hotel. And also encourage all of manager in
this hotel treat the employees in kind and respect them.
Second, four season really cares about the internal customer, employees. In hiring, then, we gave more

They upgrading a hotel first upgraded employee facilities. When a survey at London hotel showed
dissatisfaction with workers areas, installed new floors, lockers, and showers within three months.
Four seasons needed to get it down to the front line: clerks, bell staff, bartenders, waiters, cooks,
housekeepers, and dishwashers, the lowest paid and in most companies the least motivated people, but
the ones who would make or break a five star service reputation. Four seasons needs employees able
and willing to respond on their own to whatever comes up, employees who can spot, solve, and even
anticipate problems. That means delegating authority as well as responsibility. Four seasons pay
attention on how to treat employees and make them feel confortable when they work in hotel because
employees could bring positive attitude towards customers if they in good mood.
A doorman can please the customer with a smile and a few words of welcome, but one surly waiter
can kill the effect. Or if we keep an executive waiting in his suite in his underwear for his only suit to
come back from a one hour pressing, we could lose a lifetime customer worth hundreds of thousands
of dollars. No hotel, however splendid, looks good to someone whose day it has ruined. For example,

American Deaf Culture Essay
The American Deaf Culture quiz that I partook in last Thursday was a wonderful and enormous
paradigm shift of insight into, proper mannerisms, as well as the origin and complexity of the
language.
Much of what I learned for our class s assessment has to do with the sentence structure and history of
American sign language. For starters, I would have never have guessed that American sign language is
a descendant from French sign language! Nearly forty percent of the nouns in American sign language
are directly from French sign language. Another fascinating factoid I learned from this quiz was the
importance of facial expressions. I would have figured that facial expressions would be indicative of
emotion, however, I quickly realized through

Themes of Shakespeare s Measure for Measure Revealed in Angelo s Soliloquies
Angelo s soliloquies (2.2.161 186; 2.4.1 30) express themes of the tragicomic form, grace and nature,
development of self knowledge, justice and mercy, and creation and death as aspects of Angelo s
character.
By the theme of the tragicomic form I mean that which qualified extremes and promoted a balanced
condition of mind [...] It employed a mixed style, mixed action, and mixed characters passing from
side to side, it works amongst contraries, sweetly tempering their composition . (Guarini s Compendio
della Poesia Tragicomica (1601) cited in Lever lxi lxii). I take Measure for Measure s tragicomic form
as its major theme, or perhaps meta theme, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says as much in his first soliloquy he rots rather than blooms under virtuous influence (2.2.164
167). The crux of Angelo s soliloquy is Most dangerous / Is that temptation that doth goad us on / To
sin in loving virtue (2.2.180 182). This equivocation signifies Angelo s transition from condemning to
embracing his love. Unused to thinking of love (of a novice) as anything other than foul, Angelo acts
accordingly. Later he laments forgetting his grace (4.4.31).
There are also shades of the theme of justice and mercy (Lever lxiii) in Angelo s soliloquies. To this
point Angelo has maintained a precisionist, inhuman (merciless) approach to law enforcement. To this
point two characters have asked him to consider that he might behave as Claudio had in similar
circumstances. In lines 2.2.174 176 he at last entertains that argument. Angelo becomes an example of
a legalistic or spiritual concept encountering interference from the realities of human existence within
a character. Lines 2.4.7 9, The state, whereon I studied, [...] also signify movement to a middle way in
his approach to law.
The theme creation and death (Lever lxxxiii) surfaces too. Angelo has condemned a man to die for a
creative act, an act Angelo has interpreted to be destructive. Not only is Angelo feeling the stirrings
that lead to procreation, his language uses the image of pregnancy, [...] the strong and swelling evil /

Analysis Of The Article Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
In the article Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the National Women s Law Center states, on average,
women earn 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. Of these women, African American
women earn 64 cents, while Latin American women earn a mere 55 cents. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair
Pay Act became one of the many stepping stones in achieving equal pay. Women must continue to
make people aware of the discrimination they faced in the workplace on a daily basis.
Wage discrimination is embedded in our legal system. The ongoing battle for equal pay for women
dates back to the Civil War. Throughout history, men seemed as the ideal type of employers. Men
were primary the breadwinners, and women who worked at the time only pinch in money oppose to
having a stable salary equivalent to their male counterparts. The job roles such as nurses, teacher, and
retail sales clerk became a traditional female occupations. In Here s the History of the Battle for Equal
Pay for American Women, Charlotte Alter points out a letter sent to the editor of the New York Times
on February 1869. In this letter, the writer questioned why female government officials did not have
similar pay to their male colleagues: Very few persons deny the justice of the principle that equal work
should command equal pay without regard to the sex of the laborer. Even in the late 19th century in
which men had far more opportunities than women, people question the inequality in regards of the
workplace. The

The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather
There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love
to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used
throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle,
and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy.
Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and
made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their
lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in
Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and
garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had
everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to
Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11).
At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a
gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald
father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and
went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to
get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in

Essay on Power in of Mice and Men
Power
By Maria Liddy
The theme of power is prevalent throughout the novel Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck uses various
methods and techniques to establish the dynamics of power on the ranch. In the first extract, George
and Lennie are in the brush and we get a strong sense of George s parental control over Lennie, but it
also shows how Lennie s physical stature gives him a degree of power over George. In extract two we
meet Curley for the first time, and his authority over the ranch workers is clearly asserted through the
various ways in which Steinbeck describes him. And finally, in extract three, we see the first fight of
the novel. The fight is very diverse in how it portrays power. At different stages in the fight some

This is shown through Lennie s very simple language.
..But it didn t do no good
Steinbeck also uses many question marks to show how Lennie is constantly asking questions and
therefore constantly seeking guidance from George, and again, that s what gives George the edge over
Lennie.
When discussion moves to the bus tickets and work cards Lennie realises that he doesn t have his. He
looked down at the ground in despair which shows that he is ashamed and perhaps a little frightened
of George s reaction, but Steinbeck then goes on to say that George took responsibility for both of the
work cards, knowing that Lennie could not be trusted. This, again, demonstrates the balance of power
and shows that both George and Lennie are aware of how much power the other possesses.
After looking for his work card in his pocket, Lennie take out a mouse to which George replies
sharply.
What d you take outta that pocket?
George s tone is accusatory which shows that he is astute. He then continues to bombard Lennie with
questions, which gives Lennie the chance to demonstrate another type of power his cunning. He
attempts to deceive George.
Ain t a thing in my pocket
Although childlike, this sentence shows that Lennie s mind is able to think of plans. How would he
keep the mouse? By attempting to deceive George. Eventually, George s patience wears thin and he
exclaims Give it here! shouting at Lennie like a parent.

The Fast Food Industry Essays
The dagger of the people is always twisting and changing the fast food world. Fast food itself has
always been changing due to social, economic, and health concerns. To begin I will cover the origins

accompanied by a brief discussion on Taco Bell, with our final subject covering healthier fast food
options. The origins of the fast food death machine : The machines gears were forged by the company

In addition to the actual state of the restaurant the figure head of a fast food industry must also capture
the minds of potential consumer via a seemingly moronic yet intelligent and sentient being. A perfect
example of this would be the clown from McDonald s, his bizarre and inhuman looks capturing the
visual attention of the consumer while the mild mannered psychotic behavior both tantalizes us and
fills us with fear of the consequences of not consuming the double cheese burger. Another prime
example would be the burger king (view a commercial with the king and all of this will make perfect
sense) and his disturbing imagery and behavior, simply appearing at your bed side offering flame
broiled delights always with a exceedingly morbid and paralyzing smile suggesting that the burgers
are poisoned and that one will die as a result of eating them (of course the commercial never shows
the fate of the kings victim). In retrospect while it may appear that the gimmicks themselves do not
actually draw the consumer in the imagery mixed with their events taking place seem to have captured
and reeled in the consumers mind and thus achieved the companies goal. The economic way is the
only way: since the beginning of the fast food industry there has always been one simplistic train of
thought, yes its good but how do we make money

Solo And Ensemble Critique
I have went to Solo and Ensemble a few times in the past, and this year s music piece was the hardest
one that I had to do. It was a challenge to play the piece right. What I go on my piece was what I
deserved. The piece that I picked was a class B which was the same class as my last year s piece. My
last year s piece was much slower than this year s piece. My music piece that I picked was not
something that the Catholic Christian Faith influenced me to play it, it was my choice of which piece I
know I have to ability to play it well for Solo and Ensemble. I did play my piece well but there were
things that I still need to work on. The things I need to work on are keeping my flute straight, not on a
slant and keep my lips firm. My piece, Siciliana and Giga, was a challenging piece for me. The piece
may have been a class B like last year s piece but it was more challenging than last year s piece.
Siciliana and Giga starts out in a moderate speed and then suddenly get faster half way through it.
Serenade, which was last year s piece, is a slower piece than Siciliana and Giga, and the tempo is the
same throughout the entire piece. It took a lot of time and effort to play the song right. I never felt like

For Many People (Both Male And Female), The Whole Idea
For many people (both male and female), the whole idea of menstruation is icky , yet this is a subject
that female clients (who are of reproductive age) should be asked about, whether they are in a
committed sexual relationship or not. Why? When girls get close to puberty, the endocrine system
activates hormones that begin to make changes in the body. Hormones, on the most basic level,
stimulate growth and the development of the reproductive system in both male and females. In
females, breasts develop, hair grows under the arms and pubic area and menstruation begins (King
Regan, 2014). Once ovulation and menstruation starts the female can become pregnant. Inquiring

In the event a woman has started her menstrual cycle and has had sexual intercourse, some of these
questions may be warranted if her period has suddenly ceased. Consequently, unusual physical,
emotional or other sudden changes may also be important to note. It is also a good teaching
opportunity for those who may not be as knowledgeable about sexually transmitted infections,
pregnancy, birth control, female anatomy and physiology or other issues they may want to discuss.
Should the subject be raised with male clients who are in a sexual relationship? Why or why not?
This question does not have an exact yes or no answer in my opinion. If a male client comes to a
counselor and wishes to discuss their sexual relationship then I would say yes. Once again, as most of
us noted in the sexuality quiz, we do not automatically or naturally have all the knowledge
surrounding the multitude of topics about human sexuality. I feel we should make our clients as
relaxed as possible discussing these subjects and be willing to listen and discuss with empathy. Males
may not know or understand premenstrual syndrome or its symptoms. Consequently, it may help them
to comprehend the implications that affect both he and his partner. If any of these issues are not
relevant or the male does not seem open to discussing them, then I do not feel the subject should be
raised. If the female is also a client, the counselor can not breach confidentiality to discuss her issues
with her partner.

How General Motors ( Gm ) New Leadership Help Bring The...
INTRODUCTION
The following research paper is about how General Motors (GM) new leadership help bring the
company out of bankruptcy and into profitability. This paper will explore the different styles of
leadership of the various CEOs and Executives that contributed to the restructuring of the organization
and brining GM back to profitability. Can different leadership styles affect a organizations revenue?
BACKGROUND/ RESEARCH
In 2009, GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was actively seeking financial assistance from the
federal government. The following year it returned with a $4.7B profit and underwent changes in its
corporate governance. The first step was to replace the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the
time, Rick Wagoner, as part of the bailout deal (King Stoll, 2009). Wagoner was criticized for his
stubbornness to be adaptable in the automotive industry where the market constantly shifts from cars
to trucks. This meant that he was relaxed and did not challenge the changing market, but instead when
along with the market and continued to play along. He was also ridiculed for not pushing his
employees to come up new ideas to challenge the market. Because of this Wagoner allowed GM to fall
into complacency, and eventually leading to the organizations bankruptcy (Baldoni, 2009). Wagoner s
unwillingness to connect with his employees and unwillingness to challenge the market lead to the
bankruptcy of GM, also his lack of experience in the automotive industry or

Question 1: There are many factors that have enabled MMBC to create a strong brand. These include:
taste, perceived quality, image, tradition, and authenticity. Taste is achieved through a selection of rare
Bavarian hops and unusual strains of barley creating a defined Mountain Man quality. In addition,

Our first reason for not introducing the light beer is because it goes against the company culture.
Many members of upper management do not support Chris s decision to launch a light beer, creating
disjointed opinions and feelings that will reduce output or the willingness to create a shared goal. For
instance, John Fader, the Vice President of sales feels that the light beer will take away time,
resources, and attention from their Lager. In order to produce a new product, the whole company must
think in a like minded manner. Chris s decision is based on optimistic assumptions instead of facts. If
he implements his decision MMBC may alienate its most loyal customers, which would destroy its
53% brand loyalty. Brand equity is increasingly important so destroying it would make MMBC less
competitive. Also, MMBC s authenticity comes from its Lager product. Therefore by altering the
product to appeal to a more general audience it would diminish the created authenticity. It is apparent
from Exhibit 6B, consumers prefer mainstream light beer brands such as Bud Light, Miller Light,
Coors Light. Thus, MMBC (as a non mainstream brand) would have difficulty penetrating this market.

The Way We Handle Sexual Assault Cases Need to Change
Every 98 seconds a person is sexually assaulted. The question is how do we charge this? Do we
believe the victim? Do we hear the attacker? How can we know who is telling the truth? There are
many reasons a person would lie about being sexually assaulted. There are many reasons why a person

In addition, falsely charging someone with a sexual assault crime can alter their lives permanently.
People have the power to destroy a person s reputation with one sentence. According to the National

The andragogical model is one s own concept on one s self. | The role the learners experience | Adults
come into an educational activity with both greater volume and a different quality of experience from
that of youths (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). Adults have lived longer than the youth and
therefore their experiences are different. There are some potential effects that are negative in nature
with having greater experience. Mental habits, biases, and presuppositions tend to develop as
experience is accumulated. This may cause one to close their minds to new ideas, fresh perceptions,
and alternative ways of thinking (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). | The difference in the two
models is that is the pedagogical model, the learners experience has little worth. The teachers, the
textbook writer, and the audiovisual aids producer are the only experience that counts. | Readiness to
learn | Adults become ready to learn those things they need to know and be able to do in order to cope
effectively with their real life situations (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). The tasks associated with
progressing from one stage to the next are very rich sources of readiness to learn. One need not wait
around to be ready, there are techniques, such as career counseling, and simulation exercises to help
induce readiness. | In the pedagogical model, if the learner

Benny, the War in Europe, and Myerson s

When Benny was sent overseas in the autumn of 1941 his father, Mr. Garber, thought that if he had to
give up one son to the army, it might as well be Benny who was a quiet boy, and who wouldn t push
where he shouldn t; and Mrs. Garber thought: my Benny, he ll take care, he ll watch out; and Benny s

Fast Food Nation Analysis
The Super Sized Problem of the Fast Food Nation
Everyday, millions of Americans and people around the globe consume fast food without knowing
anything about who makes their food, where it comes from, or what it does to their bodies. The
growing fast food industry has become a huge part of daily life for a large part of society and has
negatively influenced our present and future generations in terms of health.. Anti Fast Food activists
such as Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, and Morgan Spurlock, producer of Super Size Me,

Big corporations, such McDonald s, are given a substantial amount of freedom in their industries
when producing their products, freedom to choose their suppliers, workers, manufacturers and more,
but do not take responsibility for what happens to their consumers due to their products. Morgan
Spurlock brings up this issue in Super Size Me: In the U.S., we ve given corporations all the powers
and freedoms of an individual but with none of the responsibility, (Super Size Me). The government
does not enforce rules about what corporations can and cannot do when it comes to their products. The
food produced by fast food companies is filled with preservatives, unhealthy amounts of salt, sugar,
and fat, and does not display healthy serving sizes. Spurlock s doctor s remarks about what improper
nutrition can do to a person show us that the food that is being served and produced by fast food
corporations needs to be reviewed nutritionally: If somebody were doing this to their liver with
alcohol they could theoretically wipe out their liver...wipe out their old liver cells and they d be in
liver failure now I ve never heard of anyone doing this to their liver with a high fat diet but I guess

The Pros And Cons Of Tanning
Tanning has become increasingly popular over years. The question is it beneficial or a bad business
deal to start. The truth is tanning is convenient method utilized by many individuals to gain skin tone
and color, builds self esteem and promote relaxation. It can be beneficial in many aspects of our lives
as well as an alternative to more harmful exposure but there are always risks at everything you do.
Dermatologists today are against it for the simple fact that they believe it causes skin cancer.
According to NCI (National Cancer Institute) exposure to UV radiation whether from the sun or from
artificial sources such as sunlamps utilized in tanning beds increases of developing skin cancer. IRAC

Being capable of doing this would be beneficial to some people because it doesn t take as long and
sitting out in the sun. There is a controlled dosage of the ultraviolet rays to reassure the consumer does
not receive a large amount of UV ray, these dosages should be spread out over several sessions. A
great aspect of tanning is clients get privacy in their own booth. Weight, being too white, tan lines and
uncomfortable bathing suits are not an issue with the tanning beds. Another advantage to tanning is it
is all year round. It doesn t matter if it is snowing or raining outside you can still get the benefit of a
captivating skin color.
Indoor tanning beds can have a negative impact on your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles, rashes,
and can cause cancer. Tanning is like a slow cooker that can slowly affect your skin and your aging
process. When tanning it is suggested to ask the salon staff the recommended exposure limits for your
skin type. Always precautious when you decide to tan for example if you do not wear goggles then it
can damage your ocular perceivers such as losing your vision. Wearing indoor sunscreen would be a
good precaution for your skin and you should consider your medical history for going tanning.
Secondly, knowing the type of bulbs when tanning is very important. The tanning lamps release
ultraviolet rays your body can tan. They contain: inert gasses, a little mercury, and phosphorus
coating.

Protecting Children from Television Violence Essays
Summary #1
Television violence, and media violence in general, has been a controversial topic for several years.
The argument is whether young children are brainwashed into committing violent real world crimes
because of violent and pugnacious behavior exposed in mass media. In his article No Real Evidence
for TV Violence Causing Real Violence , Jonathan Freedman, a professor of psychology at the
University of Toronto and author of Media Violence and Its Effect on Aggression: Assessing the
Scientific Evidence , discusses how television violence, claimed by the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC), does not cause real world aggression among adolescents. The FCC determined to
restrict violent television programming to late night hours ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freedman argues that this concept, from the FCC, strictly bases their claim on intuition, not scientific
research. Freedman writes, Ultimately, it is the findings that matter not what people think about them
or tell you about them (Par. 8). There is not enough evidence to understand and know the effects of
media coverage of real violence, and how fictional violence affects real world scenarios.
Evaluation #1
Television violence is not necessarily the problem with real world violence in today s society, nor is
violent video games, or explicit rap music. United States violence increased between the 1960 s to
1980 s, but has dropped dramatically, especially violent crimes committed by young men, since 1992
(Freedman Par. 10 11). Although media violence is increasing, world violence is decreasing; there has
to be a reputable and scientific explanation on why these children are committing violent real world
crimes. There have been less than one hundred experiments completed on this topic of choice, and
possible evidence that observer bias may affect these experiments. The FCC purposely schedule
violent or provocative televisions shows during evening hours of the night for a reason. Parents of
young children, from ages seven through fourteen, should not allow their children to watch these so
called violent television shows or play these violent video games. Certain television programs have
warning labels clearly stating that, some material is not suitable for

Even on a desolate island, political struggle between classes shape the islanders fates. In the Tempest
by William Shakespeare, the struggle for political power between classes and the dream of being king
of the island present itself. The struggle for political power results in damaging and destructive
endings for the stranded islanders. The play has clear social and political structures that can be viewed
critically with the Marxist lense. The damage and destruction from a bureaucratic society and political
system can be clearly viewed throughout the Tempest. The play allows a Marxist reading to occur with

Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs
Introduction Since the 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called White
Horse, in Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay bar to be
opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and being
caught in a gay bar could cost someone their job. In a society that viewed gays as barley human, the
White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating (Duffy 2016). With
time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs started opening all across
America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980.
On October 5th, 2017, an experimental observation at the Tracks nightclub was made. During this
experience, it was observed that these people that identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were
acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgender movement acts have been created to allow this community to be more opened and
unafraid, it has had a history of having psychological components such as depression, and social
components such as relationships with one another, and of course the history within hate crimes
towards the LGBT community.

Soybeans, The, Inc.
Introduction
USoy, Inc., a multinational company, exports soybeans to China. Soybeans are a type of legume
mainly grown in Asia, South and North America. Due to the diminishing cropland space in China,
demand for soybeans is expected to keep growing in the future. The reason USoy chose soybeans to
export out of all the other products is because soybeans are one of the top agricultural exports from the
United States. Soybeans have many nutritional benefits, they are composed mainly of protein, low in
carbs, high in fiber, good source of various vitamins and minerals and they contain a number of plant
compounds that may help prevent breast and prostate cancer (Arnason, 2015).

Factors Affecting Trade For any country, international trade will have an effect on its economy. One
factors that influences trade in China is inflation. If inflation is high in China, exporting to China will
decrease and local businesses may resort to purchasing in other countries. Another factor that will
influence trade in China is the impact of national income; if this increases compared to the home
country, the current account of the foreign country will decrease, and the real income level will rise
and result in demand for imports. Government policies also affect MNC s when it comes to
subsidizing exports and restrictions on import bills. If exports are subsidized, it will make local
business bigger competition for companies importing to that foreign country. Restrictions on imports
such as imposing of tariffs on imported goods, can reduce the company s import. Any restrictions on
exchange rates will affect the ability to use the revenue that businesses receive in Renminbi. This will
cause the new Chinese law to affect doing business in China. Also if China s government changes its
policies on the value added tax

Heart Rate Anticipatory Response
Heart rate anticipatory response this is where the heart rate starts to automatically increase before you
start to exercise. The heart rate is able to increase automatically by chemical hormones, the hormones
are adrenaline and noradrenaline. These hormones are found inside the brain. The reason the heart rate
increase before exercise is because it prepares the muscles for exercise, the reason it prepares the
muscles for exercise is because by the heart rate increase the more oxygen is getting to the muscles
there fore they will not be needing a such a large oxygen supply all at once. It doesn t only supply
oxygen it supply s nutrients, the supply of nutrients also provides energy and helps to repair the
muscles after exercise. By the heart rate starting to increase gives the heart a head to start pumping
hard this enables the heart to not have as much stress on it.
Activity response activity response is when your brain can start to sense cardiovascular activity. The
brain is able to make changes in the heart rate, the change includes heart rate increase and the strength

Vasoconstriction is when the working muscles are not getting the oxygen they need because the veins
and vessels are stopping the blood flow. In this process of vasoconstriction the diameter of the vessels
get smaller therefore the blood that is able to flow out of the blood vessels gets decreased. Blood
vessels constrict together instead of being relaxed. This happens during exercise because that s when
the working muscles need oxygen. The other muscles don t need as much oxygen there for when the
blood gets there it gets redirected to the other muscles that are working and that require more oxygen.
Therefore when exercising the legs the stomach wouldn t get as much blood to use as the legs

Reflection On The Blindspot
To start of my college journey at Loras we went to a low ropes course as part of Launch into Loras
weekend. It wasn t an ordinary ropes course because it had teachable moments as part of our learning
experience. It was time to get out of our comfort zones and allow ourselves to interact with others.
This was either going to make us one or break us into awkward groups. Another part of our task was
that we needed to take mental notes on how our mindset changed throughout the course because we
would later on reference it to the book the Blindspot. In relation to the book the Blindspot the ropes
course taught us that our mind does indeed think with the air of categories and the categories are basis
for normal prejudgment. The ropes course went underway, we started out with something simple yet
uncomfortable, a trust activity. It would require to expand our self interest, whether we wished to
engage in these first warm ups or if we overthink it and felt unbearable. At first I was like this can t be
that bad, so I went into the trust fall circle and fell as people caught me and sent me around the entire
circle. Then, I started to think about my self interest for the next activity, I decided I would not
interact, it made me not want people lifting me up in the air let alone rocking me back and forth. This
was relevant to the Blindspot because in the first chapter it talked about how self interest can affect
our actions towards ourselves.
Next, we did the Ohana course which I felt

The University of the People s Intellectual Property policy requires we respect individual property

creative work such as books, music, movies, photos, web content, and software (WIPO, n.d.).
Everyone has created Intellectual Property at some point in his or her life and no one wants it stolen.
Innovation flourishes when ideas can flow, but stealing from the author will only lead to stifled
creativity and resentment. When we build upon the work of others and our own ideation takes root, we

my friends, my teachers, and the only feeling of security I had ever known. Ahead of me lay the worst
kind of fear fear of the unknown. All I knew was that we were traveling to a place called America.
After an 18 month waiting period in Pakistan, we were permitted to enter the United States and on
March 21, 1983, a plane carrying my mother, father, brother, sister, and myself landed at Los Angeles

Yet through all my experiences, the years have not wiped from my consciousness the memories of the
final hours before our crossing of the border that cold September night. My father left behind our

Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage
Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional account
of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War. Before Henry is
battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to fight the urge to flee
from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he ultimately overcomes his
guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to depict a realistic and relatable
war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and emotion in his struggles to maintain
courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that was divergent to all prior forms of
literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately entailed the glorious and romantic
aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome details of close combat. Instead, Crane
broke the barriers of literary norms in war related literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience
of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage,
Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the
romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of experiencing battle.
One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would be
imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and

The Impacts of the Taxi Drivers Story in Sherman Alexie’s...
William wanted to hear more of this man s stories...whether they were true or not. Perhaps it didn t
matter if any one man s stories were true. If Fekadu wasn t describing his own pain and loneliness,
then he might have been accidentally describing the pain of a real and lonely man (65). This excerpt
was pulled from Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns . Alexie, a Native American, is best known for his
novels and short stories. Flight Patterns is one of Alexie s more popular pieces. William, the main
character, leads the restless life of an assiduous business man. Although he loves his family dearly, he
is unable to spend sufficient quality time with them. On his way to the airport, he engages in a
conversation with the taxi driver, Fekadu, whom divulges events from his previous years. In sharing
his life story, Fekadu greatly influences William to change his way of living. Although William has
trouble believing some aspects of the story, he knows that somewhere, someone was suffering the
events described by the taxi driver. Although Fekadu s story may not have been true, it caused William
reassess his priorities.
The legitimacy of Fekadu s story was not important compared to the lesson William could learn from
it. Fekadu suffered many hardships throughout his previous years. He explains to William how he
dearly wishes to see his family again but because of the dangers in his country, he is forced to stay in
America and work as a taxi driver. Near the end of the taxi ride,

Adolf Hiltler Shows Good Can be Manipulated into Evil
Is humanity inherently good or evil? I believe that humanity is inherently good and really does believe
in doing good and helping. But I believe that if that good is put into the wrong hands or is treated the
wrong way then that good can be manipulated into the evil that we find today in our world. The
political figure that I have chosen to show how I express this belief is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was
born on the 20th of April in the year 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau. Both of Hitlers
parents came from very poor families, his father was the illegitimate son of a housemaid, Alois Hitler
was a intelligent and ambitious man and was very much respected man at hitlers time. Alois was a
senior customs official in lower Austria. Klara Polzl, hitlers mom, left her home at the age of sixteen to
live with her cousin, Alois Hitler, in the house hold that the cousins lived in Alois started a sexual
relationship with a house maid, Franziska Matzelberger. Franziska saw Klara as a potential rival who
could get in the middle of her and Alois love and insisted that she leave household which she did. In
1882 Franziska gave birth to a son named Alois. When Anna Hitler(woman Alois first married) died in
1883, Alois then married Franziska and two months after the wedding Franziska gave birth to the
second child, Angela. Soon after Franziska developed tuberculosis and Alois told Klara to come back
to the house to care for his two children to relive the stress on

At Fault Character Review Essay
A Woman Ahead of Her Time The Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave ; these are the words that
since 1814 have been used to describe the spirit of the country that we call America. For many, this
country symbolizes a history of just that; bravery and freedom. But what does it mean to be an
American? Does it simply mean that a person is born in to the country, or does it mean that they
empower the character traits used to describe the country itself? When describing America and what it
is to be or behave as an American, there are many traits that are often used such as brave,
hardworking, strong, having the ability to overcome obstacles, a belief in equality and freedom for all,
being a groundbreaker, and having a strong, direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therese had not reached the age of thirty five without learning that life presents many insurmountable
obstacles which must be accepted, whether with the callousness of philosophy, the revolt of weakness
or the dignity of self respect. (Chopin) Although the death of her husband was very hard on her, and at
times she found herself wishing that she had died alongside him, she was forced to stand up, be strong,
and assume the role that her late husband had played. She did not ask anyone for help, instead she did
what was called upon her. She was strong and she refused to break under the extremely large
emotional burden and responsibility that had been placed upon her. Having independence and pride in
oneself and the things that they believe in are traditionally American traits that Therese also has within
herself. Therese possessed an independence of thought exceptional enough when considered in
relation to her life and its surrounding conditions. (Chopin) As a woman who had taken on many
challenges and responsibilities, she carried herself with pride and did not allow the death of her
husband or the burden that had come of it distract her from who she was and what she had to do.
Therese was an independent woman who had no qualms about speaking her mind. She had pride in
what she believed in and didn t let others come in the way of that. Eventually, David Hosmer, one of
the workers on the plantation,

Disadvantage Of Higher Education
Secondary schooling is the fulcrum or significant factor of a nation s schooling system. With regard to
the sample of secondary schooling experiments had been taking place seeing that Independence. The
ten plus two plus three device of training which was recommended with the aid of Kothari
Commission of 1965 is now being carried out in almost all the States and Union Territories of India.
This system offers for two streams the higher secondary schools; the instructional streams paving the
manner for better schooling and the vocational move of terminal nature. However, only a few schools
live been capable of offer this terminal schooling. As an end result, schools with instructional streams
still abound, thereby defeating the very motive of reducing the extreme opposition for university
schooling. In many States schooling is loose as much as the decrease secondary degree, and in a few
states training is free as much as the better secondary stage. The higher education system in India is
imparted thru about one and eighty universities and smartly forty five hundred colleges. In addition
there are several institutions presenting specialized understanding and technical capabilities. Since
training is a State challenge. The State Governments in India are unfastened to open new university.
Grants Commission is an expert which dispenses presents to the universities. However, its formal
sanction is not vital to open a college. Taking gain of this provision many State governments in India
have opened a huge wide variety of universities in recent years. The exceptional growth in the number
of students and of educational institutions has given rise to the time period schooling explosion . No
doubt, this has led to extreme problems which includes inadequacy of economic assets and
infrastructure and dilution of private interest to the training and man or woman formation of the
scholars. Also, there is the undesirable side effect of massive increase in the wide variety of
knowledgeable unemployed. However, we can t forget about the advantages of schooling explosion in
India. Mere increase in the percentage of literate humans does now not indicate a qualitative exchange
within the educational requirements of the humans and

Garage Floor
More often than not, the garage floor is the last thing that comes to mind when we decide on home
renovation projects. But given how much the garage is used for storing lawn mowers, automobiles and
even offering a great place for kids to play in bad weather, using the correct option of garage floor
paint will improve the appearance of the whole garage. Moreover, it will stop spoiling the garage with
oil, grease and other liquid stains, extend the life of the floor and make it much easier to maintain the
garage by coating the permeable surface. Garage floors are usually concrete and not simply any paint
can be used successfully on this surface. Success with this project will require selecting the best
quality paint for the garage floor and appropriately setting up the floor for the application of paint. The
first step, which is the most difficult in garage floor painting, is the removal of everything to leave the
whole floor vacant. This is when you will realize how much you utilize the ... Show more content on

If the floor has been sealed, it will be important to remove the seal with muriatic acid to etch the floor
in order to let the paint adhere to the concrete. This acid can be purchased at the same place that
carries the paint and frequently comes with a kit of epoxy flooring. It should always be used according
to the instructions included. Always wear eye protection as this is an acid, even though it is a weak
one, and it can cause problems if it is splashed into your eyes. It is very vital to select the correct
garage floor paint. Only opt for floor paint that is specially intended for garage floors. Acrylic and
epoxy are the only two types that will offer sustainability. Latex is the simplest to use, requiring only a
clean floor, most often without the need for etching. But latex does not wear well and will require at
least two coats. Acrylic lasts a long time but it requires a primer and usually a sealing

Japan and The Influence of Imperialism Essay
Japan, an isolated island located in the Pacific Ocean in East Asia,
surprised the world when it first opened its doors to Western
influence in 1854. While it had a strict policy about maintaining its
isolation, it had no choice but to succumb to imperialism. When
Commodore Matthew Perry visited, Japan realized that isolation had
resulted in their inability to develop economically and militarily
with the industrialized world. Thus from 1854 to 1914, the Japanese
changed from being under the influence of imperialism to becoming an
imperialist nation, as well as coming out of feudalism and going to
into modern militarism. Despite all these changes in its economy and
military, Japan had managed to consolidate its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japan was able to build factories and set up
private organizations more rapidly because it did not need to
experiment with or invent anything new. By 1914, Japanese imperialism
had become a threat to the United States to the point that it had to
place an embargo in order to stop it from invading neighboring
countries such as Australia. The reason why Japan changed from being
threatened by Europeans and Americans to being as threatening as they
are is because they were motivated to become a powerful nation. Their
initial decision to open up trade with the West was prompted by their
desire to posses modern technology. Their motivation was caused by the
lack of resources, to earn its reputation as a strong nation and to
avoid to be manipulated by the West. The formation of the Greater East
Asian Co Prosperity Sphere created an independent capable of
eliminating imperialism from Asia and to develop a sufficient economy
in order to compete with the Europeans. This is different from what
was occurring in another East Asian country, China. Although both
nations were exposed to imperialism and were taken advantage of by the
Western nations, Japan avoided victimization and embraced imperialism.
As Japan became an industrialized power, the traditional feudal
society was replaced by a period of enlightened rule and eventually by
military dictatorship. In

  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Fake News Believe Nothing, Question Everything Bat child found in cave! Elvis is alive! Titanic survivors found onboard! These are all examples of headlines you may have seen in a nineties supermarket magazine such as The Weekly World News or The National Enquirer. These classic fake news magazines had and still have a cult following Most readers of these magazines enjoy the cheesiness of them and are well aware of their lack of validity. Now fake news appears on our social media outlets. Many of the perpetrators of fake news don t try to hide it and a quick look at their domain name will be a dead giveaway. However, some individuals would rather disguise their domain to look like a reputable source such as CBS or NPR. Something must be done about this problem, fake news has the potential to shape opinions and control politics. Think of the Edgar Allan Poe quote believe nothing you hear and only half of what you see . This statement reigns more true today than ever before. In this world of fake news, it is the responsibility of the reader to separate truth from fiction. So why do people write fake news? Some articles seem to be written specifically out of boredom and for the entertainment of its readers. These articles should be specified as satire but are at times written as if they were legitimate news stories. These are generally far fetched and can be disproven with a quick google search if that is even necessary. The next reason is a bit more ominous: to stir panic and push ... • 3. Life and works of John Steinnbeck Essay John Steinbeck was probably the best author of all time. He was the winner of a Nobel Prize, and along with many other accomplishments, Steinbeck wrote twenty five books, including sixteen novels, six non fiction books and several collections of short stories during his lifetime. Seventeen of his works, including The Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row, The Pearl, and East of Eden, went on to become Hollywood films, some appeared multiple times, as remakes. Steinbeck also had some success as a Hollywood writer, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Story in 1944 for Alfred Hitchcock s Lifeboat. John Ernest Steinbeck was born in Salinas Valley, on February 27, 1902 from German and Irish decent. His father was the county s treasurer and his mother who was a school teacher nurtured John s ability to read and write. In 1919 Steinbeck graduated from Salinas High School and later attended Stanford University. Originally an English major, he pursued a program of independent study. During this time at the University he worked at various jobs and left Stanford permanently in 1925, without a degree, in order to pursue his writing career in New York. He failed at getting any of his writing published and then returned back to California, as a resort handyman in Lake Tahoe. His first novel, Cup of Gold, about the pirate Henry Morgan who had captured Steinbeck s imagination as a child, was finally published in 1929, but received little attention. His two following novels, The Pastures of Heaven and To a God Unknown, were also somewhat unnoticed by the literary world. In 1930 Steinbeck married his first wife Carol Henning. They both lived in Pacific Grove where a large amount of the material was influenced for Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row. Tortilla Flat, published in 1935 marked the turning point in Steinbeck s career. For Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck received the California Commonwealth Club s Gold Medal ... Why the company s leadership is different from other hospitality businesses, here are several reasons. First, four season hotel has their Golden Rule to obey, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It means treat other people with the concern and kindness you would like them to show toward you. This Golden Rule brings a bunch advantages to four season hotel. They upgrading a hotel first upgraded employee facilities. When a survey at London hotel showed dissatisfaction with workers areas, installed new floors, lockers, and showers within three months. Four seasons needed to get it down to the front line: clerks, bell staff, bartenders, waiters, cooks, housekeepers, and dishwashers, the lowest paid and in most companies the least motivated people, but the ones who would make or break a five star service reputation. Four seasons needs employees able and willing to respond on their own to whatever comes up, employees who can spot, solve, and even anticipate problems. That means delegating authority as well as responsibility. Four seasons pay attention on how to treat employees and make them feel confortable when they work in hotel because employees could bring positive attitude towards customers if they in good mood. A doorman can please the customer with a smile and a few words of welcome, but one surly waiter can kill the effect. Or if we keep an executive waiting in his suite in his underwear for his only suit to come back from a one hour pressing, we could lose a lifetime customer worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. American Deaf Culture Essay The American Deaf Culture quiz that I partook in last Thursday was a wonderful and enormous paradigm shift of insight into, proper mannerisms, as well as the origin and complexity of the language. Much of what I learned for our class s assessment has to do with the sentence structure and history of American sign language. For starters, I would have never have guessed that American sign language is a descendant from French sign language! Nearly forty percent of the nouns in American sign language are directly from French sign language. Another fascinating factoid I learned from this quiz was the importance of facial expressions. Themes of Shakespeare s Measure for Measure Revealed in Angelo s Soliloquies Angelo s soliloquies (2.2.161 186; 2.4.1 30) express themes of the tragicomic form, grace and nature, development of self knowledge, justice and mercy, and creation and death as aspects of Angelo s character. By the theme of the tragicomic form I mean that which qualified extremes and promoted a balanced condition of mind [...] It employed a mixed style, mixed action, and mixed characters passing from side to side, it works amongst contraries, sweetly tempering their composition . The crux of Angelo s soliloquy is Most dangerous / Is that temptation that doth goad us on / To sin in loving virtue (2.2.180 182). This equivocation signifies Angelo s transition from condemning to embracing his love. Unused to thinking of love (of a novice) as anything other than foul, Angelo acts accordingly. Later he laments forgetting his grace (4.4.31). There are also shades of the theme of justice and mercy (Lever lxiii) in Angelo s soliloquies. To this point Angelo has maintained a precisionist, inhuman (merciless) approach to law enforcement. To this point two characters have asked him to consider that he might behave as Claudio had in similar circumstances. In lines 2.2.174 176 he at last entertains that argument. Angelo becomes an example of a legalistic or spiritual concept encountering interference from the realities of human existence within a character. Lines 2.4.7 9, The state, whereon I studied, [...] also signify movement to a middle way in his approach to law. The theme creation and death (Lever lxxxiii) surfaces too. • 7. Analysis Of The Article Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act In the article Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the National Women s Law Center states, on average, women earn 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. Of these women, African American women earn 64 cents, while Latin American women earn a mere 55 cents. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act became one of the many stepping stones in achieving equal pay. Women must continue to make people aware of the discrimination they faced in the workplace on a daily basis. Wage discrimination is embedded in our legal system. The ongoing battle for equal pay for women dates back to the Civil War. Throughout history, men seemed as the ideal type of employers. Men were primary the breadwinners, and women who worked at the time only pinch in money oppose to having a stable salary equivalent to their male counterparts. The job roles such as nurses, teacher, and retail sales clerk became a traditional female occupations. In Here s the History of the Battle for Equal Pay for American Women, Charlotte Alter points out a letter sent to the editor of the New York Times on February 1869. In this letter, the writer questioned why female government officials did not have similar pay to their male colleagues: Very few persons deny the justice of the principle that equal work should command equal pay without regard to the sex of the laborer. • 8. The Theme Of Money In My Mortal Enemy By Willa Cather There are many themes and symbols shown throughout My Mortal Enemy by Willa Cather, from love to marriages, and choices. The motif I want to analyze is the motif of money. Money is used throughout the whole book, it used to help persuade decisions, it characterizes their lavish lifestyle, and it is what caused Oswald to become Myra s mortal enemy. Myra, being an orphan child was raised by her great uncle, John Driscoll, who grew up a poor boy and made his fortune employing contract labor in the Mississippi swamps (10). The novel describes their lavish lifestyle in which they lived in a grand house on a ten acre park and was the finest property in Parthia. Mr. Driscoll had fast horses that made national record, and Myra would throw balls and garden parties, where she would have the band play their music (10). Myra s aunt said that Myra had everything: dresses and jewels, a fine riding horse, a Steinway piano , and how her uncle took her to Ireland and had her painted by one of the famous painters there (10 11). At a youthful age, Myra did not care about money, though she cared about love. She fell in love with a gentleman named Oswald Henshawe, but Mr. Driscoll had an old grudge of some sort with Oswald father, and Driscoll did not like the idea Myra and Oswald being together. Oswald had left Parthia and went to college at Harvard; he then moved to New York and after two years he was in the position to get married (12). Then he wrote to John Driscoll for Myra s hand in ... Steinbeck uses various methods and techniques to establish the dynamics of power on the ranch. In the first extract, George and Lennie are in the brush and we get a strong sense of George s parental control over Lennie, but it also shows how Lennie s physical stature gives him a degree of power over George. In extract two we meet Curley for the first time, and his authority over the ranch workers is clearly asserted through the various ways in which Steinbeck describes him. When discussion moves to the bus tickets and work cards Lennie realises that he doesn t have his. He looked down at the ground in despair which shows that he is ashamed and perhaps a little frightened of George s reaction, but Steinbeck then goes on to say that George took responsibility for both of the work cards, knowing that Lennie could not be trusted. This, again, demonstrates the balance of power and shows that both George and Lennie are aware of how much power the other possesses. After looking for his work card in his pocket, Lennie take out a mouse to which George replies sharply. What d you take outta that pocket? George s tone is accusatory which shows that he is astute. He then continues to bombard Lennie with questions, which gives Lennie the chance to demonstrate another type of power his cunning. He attempts to deceive George. A perfect example of this would be the clown from McDonald s, his bizarre and inhuman looks capturing the visual attention of the consumer while the mild mannered psychotic behavior both tantalizes us and fills us with fear of the consequences of not consuming the double cheese burger. Another prime example would be the burger king (view a commercial with the king and all of this will make perfect sense) and his disturbing imagery and behavior, simply appearing at your bed side offering flame broiled delights always with a exceedingly morbid and paralyzing smile suggesting that the burgers are poisoned and that one will die as a result of eating them (of course the commercial never shows the fate of the kings victim). In retrospect while it may appear that the gimmicks themselves do not actually draw the consumer in the imagery mixed with their events taking place seem to have captured and reeled in the consumers mind and thus achieved the companies goal. For Many People (Both Male And Female), The Whole Idea For many people (both male and female), the whole idea of menstruation is icky , yet this is a subject that female clients (who are of reproductive age) should be asked about, whether they are in a committed sexual relationship or not. Why? When girls get close to puberty, the endocrine system activates hormones that begin to make changes in the body. Hormones, on the most basic level, stimulate growth and the development of the reproductive system in both male and females. In the event a woman has started her menstrual cycle and has had sexual intercourse, some of these questions may be warranted if her period has suddenly ceased. Consequently, unusual physical, emotional or other sudden changes may also be important to note. Should the subject be raised with male clients who are in a sexual relationship? Why or why not? This question does not have an exact yes or no answer in my opinion. If a male client comes to a counselor and wishes to discuss their sexual relationship then I would say yes. Once again, as most of us noted in the sexuality quiz, we do not automatically or naturally have all the knowledge surrounding the multitude of topics about human sexuality. I feel we should make our clients as relaxed as possible discussing these subjects and be willing to listen and discuss with empathy. Males may not know or understand premenstrual syndrome or its symptoms. Consequently, it may help them to comprehend the implications that affect both he and his partner. Can different leadership styles affect a organizations revenue? BACKGROUND/ RESEARCH In 2009, GM filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was actively seeking financial assistance from the federal government. The following year it returned with a $4.7B profit and underwent changes in its corporate governance. The first step was to replace the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the time, Rick Wagoner, as part of the bailout deal (King Stoll, 2009). Wagoner was criticized for his stubbornness to be adaptable in the automotive industry where the market constantly shifts from cars to trucks. This meant that he was relaxed and did not challenge the changing market, but instead when along with the market and continued to play along. He was also ridiculed for not pushing his employees to come up new ideas to challenge the market. Because of this Wagoner allowed GM to fall into complacency, and eventually leading to the organizations bankruptcy (Baldoni, 2009). For instance, John Fader, the Vice President of sales feels that the light beer will take away time, resources, and attention from their Lager. Adults have lived longer than the youth and therefore their experiences are different. There are some potential effects that are negative in nature with having greater experience. Mental habits, biases, and presuppositions tend to develop as experience is accumulated. This may cause one to close their minds to new ideas, fresh perceptions, and alternative ways of thinking (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). | The difference in the two models is that is the pedagogical model, the learners experience has little worth. The argument is whether young children are brainwashed into committing violent real world crimes because of violent and pugnacious behavior exposed in mass media. In his article No Real Evidence for TV Violence Causing Real Violence , Jonathan Freedman, a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and author of Media Violence and Its Effect on Aggression: Assessing the Scientific Evidence , discusses how television violence, claimed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), does not cause real world aggression among adolescents. Freedman argues that this concept, from the FCC, strictly bases their claim on intuition, not scientific research. Freedman writes, Ultimately, it is the findings that matter not what people think about them or tell you about them (Par. 8). There is not enough evidence to understand and know the effects of media coverage of real violence, and how fictional violence affects real world scenarios. Evaluation #1 Television violence is not necessarily the problem with real world violence in today s society, nor is violent video games, or explicit rap music. United States violence increased between the 1960 s to 1980 s, but has dropped dramatically, especially violent crimes committed by young men, since 1992 (Freedman Par. 10 11). Although media violence is increasing, world violence is decreasing; there has to be a reputable and scientific explanation on why these children are committing violent real world crimes. There have been less than one hundred experiments completed on this topic of choice, and possible evidence that observer bias may affect these experiments. The FCC purposely schedule violent or provocative televisions shows during evening hours of the night for a reason. Parents of young children, from ages seven through fourteen, should not allow their children to watch these so called violent television shows or play these violent video games. This was either going to make us one or break us into awkward groups. Another part of our task was that we needed to take mental notes on how our mindset changed throughout the course because we would later on reference it to the book the Blindspot. In relation to the book the Blindspot the ropes course taught us that our mind does indeed think with the air of categories and the categories are basis for normal prejudgment. The ropes course went underway, we started out with something simple yet uncomfortable, a trust activity. As dawn approached with a faint hint of turquoise along the horizon in front of us and we finally sighted Peshawar the border village in Pakistan in the distance, my thoughts were not of the next step in our journey, but of the steps already behind us. I knew nothing of war, politics, or Communism. All I could grasp was that I was leaving the only home I had known for the first three and a half years of my life for an unknown, an abstraction, a void that held neither the warmth nor the familiarity of my home in the suburbs outside Kabul. Behind me, just beyond the bend in the road and miles away, were my friends, my teachers, and the only feeling of security I had ever known. • 40. Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional account of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War. Before Henry is battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to fight the urge to flee from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he ultimately overcomes his guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to depict a realistic and relatable war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and emotion in his struggles to maintain courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that was divergent to all prior forms of literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately entailed the glorious and romantic aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome details of close combat. Instead, Crane broke the barriers of literary norms in war related literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage, Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of experiencing battle. One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would be imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and ... • 43. Adolf Hiltler Shows Good Can be Manipulated into Evil Is humanity inherently good or evil? I believe that humanity is inherently good and really does believe in doing good and helping. But I believe that if that good is put into the wrong hands or is treated the wrong way then that good can be manipulated into the evil that we find today in our world. The political figure that I have chosen to show how I express this belief is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was born on the 20th of April in the year 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau. Both of Hitlers parents came from very poor families, his father was the illegitimate son of a housemaid, Alois Hitler was a intelligent and ambitious man and was very much respected man at hitlers time.
