Ambiguity In The Secret Sharer
On Joseph Conrad s the Secret Sharer Joseph Conrad s the Secret Sharer , is one of the most
widely read and critically acclaimed work s of Conrad. The reason of this success is its peculiar
ambiguity. This story is narrated in the first person, and with the use of this method, the reader is
constantly kept in the consciousness of the nameless narrator and remain there for the entire of the
story which makes it the reader s responsibility and at the same time gives the freedom to the
reader to delve deep, and figure out the meaning of the story. The ambiguity of this story is built
around Leggatt, a fugitive who has committed a murder and takes refuge on captain s... Show more

Leggatt comes to the side of the captain s ship, and tells him that he has only two options, to

secret with the captain, and confesses that he has committed a murder weeks ago, and jumped off
the ship and swam until he reached the captain s ship. The captain decides to help him, he
empathizes with him, He appealed to me as if our experiences had been as identical as our

some critics to believe that Leggatt is only a figment of imagination of the young captain who

The Super Power s Role in Fueling the Dispute in the...
The Middle East is a region to which the superpowers attached great significance and in which
they evidenced great attention. The United States and the Soviet Union became the main external
powers of significance in the Middle East in the period since the end of World War II but mostly
since the mid 1950s and the withdrawal of British and French influence from the region. The
superpowers had conflicting and similar interests and their policies often clashed, but they avoided
direct conflict while their respective clients were occupied in war. The Arab League, an
organisation that represented all of the Arab countries, promised its support for Nasser and Arab
enmity towards Israelamplified still further. There were also key changes in other parts of the
Middle East, which had conventionally supported the West. The pro western system in Iraq was
overthrown in 1958 and Syria and Libya both began to look to the Soviet Unionfor military aid. In
1958 Syria and Egypt created the United Arab Republic, this lasted for three years until a
revolution in Syria in 1961. Nasser had hoped that this would be the foundation for the Pan Arab
movement that he dreamed of. In 1964 Nasser supported the starting up of the Palestine
Liberation organisation. A few incidents, such as the Suez Crisis led to Superpower involvement
in the Middle East on a large scale. From being a Middle Eastern concern, relations between Israel
and its Arab neighbors became a potential global crisis point. To try to

American Exceptionalism And Manifest Destiny
The United States had the belief that American settlers were meant to stretch from coast to
coast. In the 1840s, Manifest Destiny enhanced the western settlement and provided a motivation
for continued territorial expansion. It formed war with Mexico and Native Americans were removed
from their territory.
Manifest Destiny is belief the United States was destined by God to expand throughout
the continent. Manifest Destiny was caused by the fact that the American people were
historically connected to English civilization. This made them feel superior in America because
they had power and control over the other people that lived there. The Americans were white and

wanting to grow. For America to get bigger, they have to control as much as possible to concur
all they can. American exceptionalism is the thinking that the America is superior. We are too
good to follow rules, which gives us a unique character of the world.
Manifest Destiny continues to have significance for the United States and the rest of the
world. We continue to try to see the world in our image. Everyone has their own perspective on
the world. One aspect of Manifest Destiny was the idea that we had the best culture and
government in the world. This thought made us want to spread out and take more territory. It is
as we want most of the world under our culture and government. Today, we don t have the right
to more land, but we still have the best culture and government. We influence all other countries
to be more like us. This is one of the reasons many immigrants come from different countries to
be under the best. This can be seen as evidence that the idea of Manifest Destiny remains with
us today. Many countries will not have as much land as we do, but they can try to get as good as

to 1087 (12) Plan * Wanted to assert his authority over them * Had to keep Wales at bay because
the border kept shifting * Rebels that went against William went to Wales for safety The main
reason that William became involved in Wales shortly after he had taken England was because he
would have seen the Welsh as a threat. Along with many other countries, they would have known
that the situation in England was unstable and William may have thought Wales were planning an
invasion. To assert his authority over Wales, he led a campaign into their country in 1066 and an

Also, Scotland could provide refuge for anyone that had rebelled against William (including
Edgar) which would have furthered the tensions. The disputes of land had also caused problems
for William. Lands such as Cumbria and Northumbria were disputed between Malcolm and
William. This became worrying for William because parts of his kingdom were being threatened
to be taken from him which would give Malcolm more land and support against William. However,
the threat of Scotland was not as substantial as some historians make it out to be. In 1072, William
marched through Scotland with relative ease. Although Williams army was fearfully exposed
according to Purser, the Scottish did not capitalize on this opportunity. This could be interpreted as
Malcolm showing he did not want to fight against William. This point links into the treaty of
Abernethy. In the same year Malcolm met William at abernethy and signed a treaty which shown
that he recognised William as his superior. According to purser, in good faith , Malcolm kicked
Edgar out of his court which would have made further rebellions in the north very difficult. Overall,
Scotland was initially a threat around the time of the Northern rebellion however the treaty of
Abernathy played a main factor in extinguishing the threat of the

The Dangers Of Modern Social Justice
The Dangers of Modern Social Justice
In America there has always been racial tension. Although it would be more accurate to state that
there has always been ethnic tension in America. The term race can be used to target an individual
s differences in physical appearance, and while in the past this was commonplace practice, today,
however, it is more apt to use ethnicity to differentiate (Segregated America Separate Is Not Equal).
A person s upbringing that helps shape who they might become (Persell 98 107).
This clash of cultures, of personal identity, has culminated in a very real Us vs. Them mentality.
One of which there is only one correct side, where one is right and the other wrong. Recent
advancements in technology have made this mentality possible to spread at a swift and unchecked
speed. Where one voice can stand against many, where one post to a social site can start a
movement, where one tweet can endanger innocent lives. Where one match in a dark room has the
potential to either light the room up, or set it on fire.
It is this style of belief structure that if not properly balanced can create such chaos and division
that not one, or many, could stand against. This oncoming wave is social justice; it is the new child
of the instant age. Yet it has no guiding figure, no parent to help ground its moral compass. It often
lacks respect for others, respect for law, and often ignores the responsibility of facing consequences.
In short, the social justice

International Adoption In The United States
After World War II, the dissolution of European families resulted in the significant increase in the
number of adoptions of foreign born children. This began America s active participation in what is
currently known as international, or intercountry, adoption. Every year for the last six decades,
Americans have adopted thousands of foreign born children. It is the process by which the
prospective adoptive parent adopts a child from a country other than the parent s own, through
permanent legal means, and brings that child to the parent s country of residence to live with the
parent permanently. Like domestic adoption, it is the legal transfer of parental rights and

Pathos And Cons Of Meat
Comparing the Arguments of Meat Consumption In conducting a rhetorical analysis of the two
articles, Joel Salatin: How to Eat Animals and Respect Them, Too by Madeline Ostrander and
Humane Meat? No Such Thing by Sunaura Taylor, both articles stand in stark contrast in terms of
the viewpoints of meatthat they present. In order to gain a better understanding of these viewpoints,
it s important to understand the persuasive techniques that both authors use in the article for the
reader. More specifically, the ethos, pathos, and logos that they employ, as well the way in which
the evidence and support is presented will further elucidate upon the arguments that appear in both
articles.

of her own drawn conclusions than a fact. Nonetheless, she presents her points

The Holy One of Israel in Isaiah
The Holy One of Israel This essay concerns about the meaning of the divine title The Holy One of
Israel in the Book of Isaiah. It is going to state clearly the study approach before going into the
discussion.
Approach of this essay
The book of Isaiah had been studied through different approaches of which three are quite
distinctive[1].
(1)A pre critical, or traditional, understanding, still found in some conservative scholars. They keep
the entire book of Isaiah connected to the prophet Isaiah of the eighth century B.C.E. There is
nothing intrinsically impossible as the approach is prophecy . With the rise of historical criticism ,
such an approach has been commonly rejected in the interpretive world.

Israel acquires holiness by being obedient to God s commandments and faithful to His covenant
(Lev 11:44; Deut 28:9)[4]. The concept of holiness permeates the life of Israel. Even the land
occupied by the people is considered holy (Zech 2:12). The capital city Jerusalem is designated as
the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High (Ps 46:4).
The Holy One of Israel
The term The Holy One of Israel reflects the dialectical relation between The Holy One and
Israel . It is a relation with the Holy One with a non holy entity[5]. The Holy One requires Israel
to be holy. Be holy because I, the Lord Your God, am holy (Lev 19:2). The separate one becomes
the attached one. Their relation is bound by covenant. The challenge of the relation is Israel s
unfaithfulness in worshipping other god s. The most notable example is the imposition of Baal
worship on the northern kingdom by Ahab s marriage to Jezebel. Both the northern and the
southern kingdoms suffered captivity. Any rebellious from Israel side causes discipline from The
Holy One side. Exile from Israel causes In the midst from the other, punishment causes redemption
, go astray causes teaches and leads etc. In the Book of Isaiah, the Holy One is the Lord, God. The
Lord has passion. He is angry at Israel who rejects His laws (5:24; 31:1) but His compassion is
good news more directly for the powerless (29:19). He is the Creator of Israel (43:15), the Maker of
this nation (17:7;

Should We Extend Equal Consideration Of Interests To Non...
Equality has been a controversial and persistent issue in America s history. From slavery to
segregation, it might seem that now that we have laws outlawing these forms of discrimination,
we are free from all forms of prejudice. While this might seem true, we are actually not. We are
too quick to overlook an issue that affects a great number of us. And by us, I mean all animals.
Many humans tend to have a feeling of superiority over other species of animals. Reasons for this
might be because humans feel as other species are not as intelligent as them or because we cannot
communicate properly to know their interests. This is not justifiable. I will argue that the we should
extend equal consideration of interests to non human animals because... Show more content on

They also argue that humans are just superior to other animals because of our intellectual abilities
so they should not have the same considerations of interests. It might be true that most humans are
smarter than other species but that does not make it right to make other animals purposely suffer
for our own enjoyment. Stating that all humans are smarter than any animal is false. For example,
Singer quoted A chimpanzee, dog, or pig, for instance, will have a higher degree of self awareness
and a greater capacity for meaningful relations with others than a severely retarded infant or
someone in a state of advanced senility. Here, Singer provides evidence against the argument stating
that animals can be smarter than humans but that does not make it okay for an infant to be treated
to the same suffering and injustice of a non human animal. This further proves that the real reason
for not extending moral consideration to non human animals is not due to their intelligence but
because of humans believing that they are superior to other animals, which is

Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
The Heart of Darkness employs, broadly, a three framed narrative style. Conrad, the author, places
an unnamed narrator aboard the Nellie with Marlow, who is the third narrator/frame. The unnamed
narrator functions as both a teller of Marlow s tale to us and a listener to Marlow. The significance
of these frames can be analysed by looking at three effects which this arrangement produces.
The usage of Marlow as narrator instead of Conrad himself became important due to Conrad s
anxiety to adopt an English point of view which had been denied to him largely. His self
consciousness as a Polish Г©migrГ© and therefore an outsider reflected in his attempt at
anglicising his name. Also well known was his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That the frame narrator is also a would be listener makes it easy for the reader to step into his
shoes and for Conrad to thenceforth shape and manipulate the reader s responses as and when
Marlow retaliates or explains his point of view to him (and in effect, to us).
Marlow s attempt at recreating his subjective past is met with unease on the part of the narrator
and like a litmus paper he brings out the intellectual and emotional effect the author is seeking.
When the effect has been so affirmed, the author proceeds to manipulate it. When, for example,
we see Marlow s desperation for having missed the chance to speak to Kurtz as absurd, Conrad
makes the listeners sigh with the same reaction. Marlow reacts heatedly Why do you react in
this beastly way, somebody? Absurd? ... This is the worst of trying to tell... Here you all are,
each moored with two good addresses, like a hulk with two anchors, a butcher round one corner, a
policeman round another. Pp 53 This chastisement by Conrad gets displaced from Marlow s
companions to the reader. Marlow is trying to prevent us from judging Kurtz and by doing so
highlights his importance in the tale s critical discourse.
Finally, another significance of the narrative within narrative framework is that the double

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern, By William Shakespeare Essay
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead begins with confusion and ends in
bewilderment. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet.
Stoppard takes Rosencrantz and Guildenstern out of the Hamlet reality and creates a new world for
them, a world where they are lead characters. However, in Rosencrantz and Guildensterns new
reality, limitations and constraints arise. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and
actions have already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to
incorporate for himself. Stoppard actually does an exceptional job in giving Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s a plot for themselves, he does this through the manner of Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s incomprehensibility of the world and their difficulty in making meaningful
decisions. To an extent, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern did have the ability to make their own
choices and to an extent, they didn t. In this essay I will discuss just how much Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern s capability for action, existential choice and death were already written before
Stoppard even picked up a pen. The majority of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s narrative has
already been written by Shakespeare. The characters try to break free of this narrative by the way
they frequently discuss fate, chance and the difference between reality and acting. Stoppard takes
many themes from Hamletand incorporates them well within his play, however, his

The Influence Of The D-Day Invasion
D Day is an important day in history for all countries involved in World War II, it marked the
turning point in the war for the Allies victory. Many modern movies and people focus on the
amphibious landings onto the beaches of Normandy. Although the paratroopers of D Day are not
as idolized, they played an important and influential role in the outcome of D Day. One area of
discrepancy between experts is how well paratroopers performed on D Day. Although paratroopers
had many obstacles and setbacks, they played a crucial role in the success of the D day invasion.
World War II was a war fought between the Axis powers (Germany, Japan, and Italy) and the Allied
powers (United States, Soviet Union, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and
China) between the years 1939 and 1945. During the war around sixty million civilians and
military personnel were killed. The war was fought mainly on two fronts: The Pacific Theater and
the European Theater. Germany surrendered on May 7 1945 and Japan only lasted four more
months (Willmont et al., 2004).
D Day was an Allied invasion, planned for Normandy, code named Operation Overlord, that took
place on June 6 1944. The invasion was a combination of an Amphibious landing forces as well as
an airborne force that parachuted behind enemy instillations and defenses to capture roads from the
beachheads and enemy instillations (Willmont et al., 2004).

Silver In The 18th Century Dbq
Silver in the 16th century and early 18th century was a product that was widely used and traded
across the world both as a currency and a feature in households and stores. The trade of silver
included large scale social and economic effects that spread around the world, impacting large
centralized governments such as the chinese, to smaller, less organized areas in the americas. Silver
allowed the early modern age to flourish, and grow economically, socially, and in global trade.
Silver had a profound effect on the global economy, for example, silver backed nearly all of Chinas
economy back in the day and silver quickly became the core of China s economic life. This is
shown in documents 2,3,4,6, and 8 For example, in document 2, a Spanish... Show more content on

For example, silver began to be an important part of everyday dealings. Jobs were focused
towards silver production, foods and goods could be bought with silver coins, etc. This is
mainly shown in documents 1,5, and 7. For example on document 1 it shows the social effects
of the usage of silver in this time period. However I believe that the point of view in this passage
is slightly swayed by the fact that the author is a county official who is most likely wealthy and
he may simply be referring to his own greed. In document 5 it shows how silver was eventually
used as a currency and people were no longer able to keep tabs as they had to pay with silver up
front. I believe the purpose of this document is important due to the growing use of silver and how
it was affecting the cities that began to use it. In document 7 silver can clearly be seen affecting
social lives through the increased demand for foreign products. With a higher demand for these
products there is a much higher demand for the silver to purchase the goods. I believe the purpose
of this document is important because it shows the relationship between the different countries in

Analysis Of The Poem Casting Into The Unknown By...
16 Reflection paper #2
I saw the glistening sunlight enhanced the silky fabric that cascaded the Earth around us, while
the frigid dew and vigorous winds dampened the air. Despite my pervious exposure to the Hudson
River during our first walking trip, standing in the dock allowed me to absorb the beautiful
landscape and gives me a different experience then looking at maps. I can only imagine what was
going through Harry Hudson s and Giovanni da Verrazzanos mind as they stumbled upon this
estuary. The water completely fascinates people, including myself, and like our assigned class
reading Casting into the Unknown by Marcelo Gleiser, the author alludes to the ocean as a
representation of his collective identity, sense of freedom and mystery. But most importantly,
water is a symbol of a portal into the unknown. After reading the article, I am able to relate it into
our FBL activity and our class discussion. In my opinion, the water in the Huston river, represents
a portal into the past. The same breathing taking sight I saw would ve been similar to that sight in
the 1800s. Although the water way has significantly reduced over time, the Houston river is one of
the physical connection that bridged me to the past and see what it was like.

Benefits And Costs Of Extracurricular Activities Essay
INTRODUCTION
More than half of American teenagers attending school participate in some type of extracurricular
activities (Gardner, Roth and Brooks Gunn, 2006). Extracurricular activities can include sports,
journalism, drama or theater, art or music, youth groups, student council, and clubs. Today about
one in four students participate in academics clubs (Miller Zittleman, 2012). Since extracurricular
activities are so popular among students, it is important to understand the pros and cons of engaging
in extracurricular activities.
The purpose of this literature review is to examine the benefits and costs of extracurricular
activities. First, I discuss how participating in extracurricular activities benefits students. Among the
benefits I discuss are academic performance, enhanced self esteem, and respectful behavior.
Secondly, I will discuss the cost of participating in extracurricular activities. The costs I discuss are
time management, and expenses.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITES Students who participate in extracurricular activities usually
benefit from the many opportunities granted to them (Israel 2010). More than half of American
teenagers attending high schools participate in some type of extracurricular activities (Gardner,
Roth Brooks Gunn, 2006). The benefits include higher school attendance, improved self esteem,
enhanced academic performance, and reduced behavior issues (Killgo 2010; McNeal 2012; Sterns
2010; Worrell 2005). When students participate in

The Middle Age African American Man
Consider this scenario in America today a middle age African American man is not eligible to vote.
This man s father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather shared the same
misfortune during their lifetime. The original patriarch could not vote as a slave, his son was
beaten by the Ku Klux Klanfor trying to vote, the grandson was intimidated by the Ku Klux Klan
for trying to vote, and the great grandson was prohibited from voting by poll taxes and literacy
tests. The middle age African American man cannot vote today due to being on probation for a
felony conviction.1 This same man probably had an ineffective attorney to represent him when he
was arrested, was offered a choice of a plea bargain as opposed to a stringent sentence, and was
subsequently placed under the control of the criminal justice system either by a prisonsentence,
probation, or parole. Once released from the criminal justice system, the man may be stigmatized
for the rest of his life and may return to prison.2 As the middle age man tries to re integrate himself
into mainstream society, his felony status can negatively impact potential employment, housing,
and government assistance. This same man s treatment could be compared to man living in a
southern state at the height of Jim Crow.3 Jim Crow was a practice enforced by laws in the United
States(U.S.) enacted between 1874 1975 to keep black and white races apart. The goal of these

Southern Colonies Essay
Sports and games provided a much needed escape from the drear of everyday life. Recreation
was surprisingly unique in the Southern Colonies compared to the New England and Middle
Colonies because of a lack of restrictive religious groups. Though games were not as popular in
early settlements, because of lack of free time and distances between settlers, they became more
and more popular with increased wealth, larger populations, and a growth in towns. Games were
played to offer a relief from some of the grimness of daily life, to offer mating rituals, to express
resentment in a safe way, and to help promote village unity. Sports and games played a large role
in the daily lives of the southern colonists and continues to be seen today.

Essay On The Sandman
The Sandman, A Hand crafted Nightmare A bedtime story is meant to guide children into a
peaceful sleep. That, however, is not the case when one talks about Paul Berry s The Sandman.
According to a friend of his, the late internationally respected animator Paul Berry started his
career in his home country the United Kingdom. There, he had worked on The Wind in The
Willows and The Fool of the World, done solely in stop motion. His Oscar nominated short The
Sandman placed his name onto the global stage and led him to many opportunities oversea,
including a position in Nightmare Before Christmas production team. Since its release in 1992,
The Sandman had become the recipient and winner of many film awards around the world
(Purves). With its story based on E.T.A. Hoffmenn s novella Der Sandmann (Willig), the magical
nighttime fairy is not what viewers typically know him for. A dark twist to a gentle bedtime story,
combined with clever use of color and distinctive style, turned The Sandman into a great piece of

Devastating Effects of the Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados
Although relatively small in size, Ecuador is one of the most biologically diverse nations in the
world. A drastic range of altitude and geographical diversity in such a small area has resulted in a
high number of diverse climactic regions. Because of their very different climates and altitudes,
Ecuador s four main regions, the lowland Pacific Coast, the Andes Mountains, the Amazon
rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands, are each home to a wide variety of plant and animal
species. These many distinct ecosystems and the hundreds of endemic species residing within
Ecuador s borders have led scientists to classify it as a biodiversity hotspot .

However, the environmental effects caused by the oil industry in Ecuador are not limited to the
Amazon region. The construction of the OCP (heavy crude oil pipeline) threatens many of the
nation s other fragile ecosystems. The pipeline, which would connect oil sources in the Amazon
with the ocean port and refineries of Esmeraldas on the Pacific Coast, runs over the Andes
through various protected areas and reserves and regions of high tourism activity. (OCP alert, 2)
The high range of altitudes (up to 6300 meters) of the Andes, through which the pipeline will run,
provides fragile and diverse habitats for a variety of plants and animals. Also, the many isolated
areas of the Andean region have led to the evolution of an unusually large number of endemic
species.
The pipeline will traverse the extremely unique ecosystem of the Andean paramo. The high
altitude paramo region begins at the upper edge of the mountain forests and extends as high as
the glacier line of about 5000 meters. The paramo is characterized by a harsh, high altitude
climate. It is generally cold and dry (although some areas can be swampy), and supports low
lying vegetation like shrubs and grasses. (High Altitude Paramo, no page) The paramo is
important to other ecosystems of Ecuador because of its role as a water source. Melted ice from
glaciers is filtered by grasses and collects in the paramo s many lakes. This region is inhabited

Analysis Of The Poem The Ode On Intimations Of...
Sometimes, art is a joke, or an explanation, or a song. Art can inspire, destroy, or create. Art can
be whatever you need it to be. Sometimes, you need a scream. A scream into a void telling it what
you think and feel all the while hoping for a scream back. That s what Ode on Intimations of
Immortality From Early Childhoodby William Wordsworth is, Wordsworth s desperate attempt to
scream into the void the best he could. But, what is he trying to say?
The title is the first indication of the meaning of the poem. Since Wordsworth calls it an ode, he is
saying that the intimations of immortality from early childhood are what he will be addressing in
this poem. An intimation is the first indication or hint of something. So, the title is ... Show more

He doesn t say what the thought was or what relived the thought, but it is interesting to note that
from the shepherd boy to the lamb to the bird all carry connotations of youth and vibrancy. As we
see later on, this connection between youth and nature goes much deeper. The joy felt throughout
this stanza is carried over into the fourth stanza where there is a such a vibrant celebration even the
very earth is a part of it. During this celebration, he says that it would be an evil day if he were
upset right now. This almost suggests that he is unhappy right now and is forcing himself to be
happy. It guides the reader to question this happiness and separate the narrator, and in turn
themselves, from the scene laid out before them. The distrust is only heightened when from the
very trees and flowers themselves a question is whispered. Where is that dream from before?
Where did it go?
This is how the fourth stanza concludes as it lays the groundwork for the rest of the poem by tying
together the first four stanzas. These first four stanzas are used by Wordsworth to prepare the reader
to understand him. Throughout the first four stanzas, Wordsworth continually drives home the
separation between this man and the nature around him. From the inability to fully see nature in the
first stanza or the thought of grief from the third stanza, this separation is always there. It s never a
negative thing. Wordsworth doesn t imply

Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut Essay
Harrison Bergeron is a story written by Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut s story is a warning to the world
about the quest of equality, which is spreading all round in many nations with America on the lead.
The story shows the reader how the equality issue can have negative impacts on people s
individuality, and the society. The story revolves around the protagonist, Harrison Bergeronwho is
an archetypical symbol that represents defiance, and individuality. He is used to represent the
people who will stand up, and protest against cruel laws imposed by the state on equality, and

easily a government can control its citizens, by assaulting their senses and individuality. Harrison
Bergeron is a valuable story that has underlying themes, which are very relevant in our current
society. The theme of equality can be seen throughout the book, and it is the principle that is
enshrined in America s constitution now, whereby they claim that all men are equal. Kurt Vonnegut
demonstrates the issue of equality in a Utopian society. Vonnegut in his story, cautions Americans

Civilization Vs. Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies
Civilization versus Savagery
The Lord of the Flies is a classic novel written by William Golding in the year of 1954. The novel
tells the tale of a group of schoolboys who are miraculously marooned on a desert island after their
plane crashes. At first the boys attempt to govern themselves and to keep a grasp on civilization and
order; In the beginning the island was very much like their home, but eventually this ideology fades
into savagery and brutality. The boys resort to theft, torture and even murder. Although The Lord of
the Flies depicts many themes and morals, the underlying theme is the battle between the human
impulse towards civilization and savagery. This theme is brilliantly and respectively portrayed by
battle of the two characters; Jack and Ralph.
In the beginning there was only the main protagonist Ralph and Piggy, they soon realise that
there is a possibility that there may be other survivors and decide to call the others using a conch
shell that Ralph and Piggy had found earlier, Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into
the lagoon. Something creamy lay among the ferny weeds. [p8] The conch is blown by Ralph (
We can use this to call the others [p9]) Children start to emerge from the bushes including a choir
lead by a ginger boy named Jack. Note that they only emerged from hearing the sound of the shell,
there were no other instructions, this immediately makes the conch a symbol of law and order.

The True Hero In Wuulf And Beowulf
As Walter Cronkite, a former CBS anchorman, once said, In seeking truth you have to get both
sides of the story. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king,
Hrothgar, are heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel
s twelve year massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however,
it is told through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in
perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic
poem and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption,
and unmoral actions.
Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal
warriors. Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their
actions as their respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory
mead hall to distribute treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar,
whose word was obeyed all over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands
in Beowulf (6). Receiving praise and craving eternal fame, the Danes followed Hrothgar s
instructions at all costs. Furthermore, the Danes are influenced by Hrothgar through the Shaper s

Business Strategy For Competitive Advantage
Pre requisite Module: Business Strategy for competitive advantage Previous Module:
Introduction to people management (Hill, 2009) state Molex s competitive advantage is based
on a strategy that blends low costs, excellent customer service, and the mass production of
standardized products that are sold globally . Using a pre requisite module like business strategy
for competitive advantage, it can be assumed that Molex are using theoretical concepts from
porters generic strategies like focused low cost and differentiation in order to gain an advantage
over their competitors as previously mentioned in the case study. (Sowell, 2006) further
illustrates this point stating firms like Molex will drive their cost lower through investments in
plant efficiencies . Linking this back to (Hill, 2009) where it goes on to say that manufacturing
sites are located in countries where cost conditions are favorable . We can therefore see that
these countries, which are cost favorable, were not chosen at random, but instead selected using a
focused low cost strategy. This informs companies like Molex to invest their resources in plant
efficiencies, further suggesting that these plant efficiencies means an area where capacity
utilization can be met but keeping both fixed and variable costs low. This favorable country that
is not specified in the case study, could be less developed a country where exchange rate is

Analysis Of The Poem Maus My Father Bleed History Essay
The curiosity of Artie about Vladek saying that Anja was not pretty, during the fight between
Vladek and Lucia, incites Artie to interrupt Vladek s story of the past. The interruptions that Art
Spiegelman writes into his comic, Maus My Father Bleed History, breaks up Vladek s story about
surviving the Holocaust, which is what happens in the scene with Vladek and Lucia s fight.
Spiegelman uses the interruptions of Vladek s story to lead out of it and then back into Mausto
assist in clarifying information for the reader, to show the father son relationship between Artie and
Vladek, and also to explain how Maus was written.
The incidents that Spiegelman uses within his panels and text work as a way to give insight into
how Artie and Vladek s father son relationship works. A case in which Artie and Vladek s
relationship is shown is right after Vladek tells Artie the story about Lucia and he says, But this is
what I just told you about Lucia and so I don t want you should write this in your book
(Spiegelman 23). To help interrupt Vladek s story Spiegelman makes the panel in which this
dialogue takes place have no border around it, which gives the panel a sense of breaking up the
story that Vladek was telling to Artie. Vladek interrupting his story shows that while he felt this was
important information for Artie to know, he does not want it in the comic. Thus this story being in
the comic along with Artie s reaction in the comic show the reader the differing views and the

Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone
It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good
pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of
Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the
Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2 330http:/
/muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simonean hour to write Mississippi Goddam, which is a
song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the 1963
church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than
fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school.
In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning
of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song
had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about
a movement. A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American
future sings, Oh but this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies.
Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into
show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who
studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind
and what she prepared to be. She born with the name of Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon,
North Carolina. She began to play the piano at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher
and took her to the revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were
some of the most exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of
going out of yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings.
When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was
on it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them, Mrs. Mazzanovich,
decided then and there to give music lessons. For five years, she studied classical piano with this

Monopolistic competition is a type of competition within an industry where all firms produce

written, both have the similarity of having to do with the rise of status from low to high class.
This demonstrates that Dumas had portrayed Dantes lifestyle in the movie to being somewhat like
his; Man of poorness to the man of wealthiness. First, Alexandre Dumas starts off by presenting
himself as a man of low social class because when looking at the film it is shown that the movie is
from Dantes perspective. Dantes is a man who had been considered to being very poor and low
classed at the beginning of the movie. Dumas displayed Dantes as a person who couldn t read or
fight with a sword meaning that he had no education and was not taught swordsmanship
whatsoever. He had also displayed the comparison between the rich and the poor by showing how

What Is The Mood Of The Count Of Monte Cristo
Just like every great story The Count of Monte Cristo has its own particular and mesmerizing
settings. Alexandre Dumas not only amazes us with breathtaking and exotic places but he also
takes us to the darkest and goriest corners that you could ever imagine, places that could even alter
the emotional state of the strongest man. This novelbegins at a French seaside town called
Marseilles, Edmond s hometown and home for all his loved ones and all his enemies. The
Chateau d If is a prison completely surrounded by water which is really conventional since it
makes it impossible for the prisoners to escape from it. This is the place where our main character
spent fourteen years of his life incarcerated and where he met old Abbe Faria. Then, we have The
Island of Monte Cristo, despite being a fictional setting, this place is one of the most important
ones in the whole book. This is the place where our dear Edmond finds Abbe Faria s treasure and
where he builds up his mini castle and becomes what we now will know as The Count of Monte
Cristo. Then the book keeps on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From chapter one to five we can see how the whole atmosphere is optimistic and full of
happiness since everything is going good for our dear Edmond Dantes, he has an insured
position as captain of the Pharaon, he has enough money to give his father something to eat and
he is finally going to marry the woman he loves. But then suddenly everything turns malevolent
when we see how his supposed friends blinded by jealousy plot a plan to demolish Edmond. The
book then turns sad when we see our beloved hero incarcerated in a dungeon like if he was a
dirty rat. Once Dantes is finally out of prison the mood becomes pure expectation and revenge
since we are all seemingly waiting for Edmond s next move to take his life

Fahrenheit 451 And Tobias Wolfr Swot Analysis
Many people have important jobs because they are trustworthy, they have great ideas, and they
know how to take control of different situations. On the other hand, some people in charge are not
worthy of their spot and do not always do or say what is right. In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff
shows that the authorities are not always in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451,
Ray Bradburyhas a different way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit
451, the authorities often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to cope
with the situation. Tobias Wolffand Ray Bradbury both have a very different way of portraying
thoughts, but they both give the same message when the authorities are not always right. Pete
Landon is a Foreign Service Officer and he does not always do what is right, especially to the
people around him. Pete started off pretty tough in Vietnam, starting out as a translator. He has
progressed through the years and moved up ranks. He enjoys his life in Vietnam and actually is
in favor of the war. Pete has one of the nicest houses in Vietnam for an American. He often has no
work anymore and just travels around visiting people. He also always has very fancy and
elegant dinners consisting of Filet mignon and wine. Everyone loves Pete and they almost think
of him as a celebrity. If Pete likes you, you re cool. When Tobias and Pete were hanging out, Pete
said Tobias did not have a real job in the war.

The Many Forms of Hate Crimes Essay
The Many Forms of Hate Crimes
The issue of hate crimes has greatly affected the way in which people interact. A hate crime is
defined as any act of violence or verbal slashing of a person based upon race, religious belief, or
one s sexuality. There are several other grounds for determining a hate crime depending upon
guidelines in written laws. Hate crimes are said to have originally derived from the unjust
treatment of Jewish cultures during the Holocaust in World War II. Slavery of African Americans
in the early to mid 1900s has also been deemed a cause of hate crimes. The issue of hate has
completely engulfed the media with questions and proposed answers on how and why some of
these ungodly acts could have taken place. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Groups such as the Ku Klux Klan serve as a basis to the ideology of white supremacy and anti
Semitism. Recently, several white supremacists have been arrested for threats on anti hate
group officials. Alexander James Curtis and Michael Brian DaSilva were arraigned in federal
court with felony charges of a two year hate crime spree against Hispanic and Jewish Politicians.
Both politicians had spoken out against unjust treatment of minorities in the past. (Article 3)
The ideology of the Ku Klux Klan has also appeared in Moscow recently as former member
David Duke spoke against world Zionism and preached of expulsion of dark skinned people.
The slogan of the Ku Klux Klan, Glory to Russia and White Power is still evident the crowd in

homosexuals pose as the one of the largest problems in recent news. With the current rise of gay

violent ways. Police and Congress have their hands full sending out large task forces and passing
laws to put a stop to harmful protests. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force declared October

Sainsbury Mergers
Mergers and acquisition in the retail industry According to Froud (1999) in grocery retail
customers real expenditure on food in UK has been stable around 32 to 34 billion pounds a year
since 1960 and hence the major retailers were able to achieve growth on the expense of other
smaller retailers. Therefore retailers may pursuit mergers and acquisitions as a mean for growth.
One of the main mergers in the retail industry is the merger of Carrefour and Promodes in France
to create the world s second largest retailer after Wal mart. One of the main reasons for this merger
is that both companies find it difficult to grow organically. Nevertheless the need for growth is not
only to boost their financial performance but also to create a major force to fight Wal mart, which
entered the German market and later acquired Asda a major retailer in the UK s market (The
Economist, 1999). Through this Merger Carrefour created instant growth and positive impact on its
shareholder value.

Starship Troopers Racist Ideology
This essay will focus on the relationship between the film Starship Troopers (Verhoeven; 1997;
USA) and the parodic fascist ideology that is presented in the film. The film tells the story of an
interplanetary war between Earth and colonies of large insect like aliens in the 23rd century. In
brief, this essay will delve into some of the utilized stylistic and thematic traits included in the film
such as the obvious Nazi imagery, the powerful media presence that is dictated by the State and the
deliberate satire that is used to comment on current American concerns.
Before we delve into how Starship Troopers portrays a parodic fascist/nationalistic ideology, we
must first define what ideology is, in particular, what is means in terms of cinema. ... Show more

Heinlein (Crim, 2009 p. 18). The novel followed a similar pattern of all his juvenile novels aimed
at male adolescents, focusing on the science of science fiction whilst following youthful education
stories and supporting an optimistic vision of space conquest (Melin, 2010). Critics took issue with
the attitude that his young protagonists portrayed, calling Heinlein s political views strongly
authoritarian and fascist. On the other hand, Verhoeven s ideology is exactly the opposite. Rather
than downplaying these fascist elements of Heinlein s novel, Verhoeven decides to play them up,
giving the film s incipient Nazism an admiring positive spin (Cass, 1999, p. 56), hence mocking the
very nature of Heinlein s novel. In his adaptation, Verhoeven gets away with cheeky, sometimes
savage, parody of patriotism with campy enthusiasm, blatant and black humour and a cast of bugs,
which steal the picture under the noses of the scrubbed and brainwashed teenage troopers. Some
critics who understood the satirical point still worried that a younger audience would not that
naГЇve viewers would embrace this fascist world, much as those of similar age did in the 1930s

Analysis of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim s Views Essay
The sociological views of the three founding fathers; Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Emile
Durkheim all assert that various aspects of our lifestyle are fully a product of the society in which
we live. Each theorist views the impact of society and its manifestation of our identity in a
different way. All three of these men used the Industrial Revolution and capitalism to shape their
theories of social identity, especially the identity created by capitalism s division of labor; the
owners of the means of production; the bourgeoisie and the oppressed proletariat. The Industrial
Revolution was a major turning point in the recent history of the world. This shaped the theological
point of view and underpinned this social and economic paradigm... Show more content on

This could only be accomplished through the Marxist agenda for change and the realization of
the proletariat that they were being exploited, the underclass must unite for the common
purpose and rise up and demand change. Only once this was accomplished can the underclass
begin to change their way of life to an increase in the quality of life. The inequities between the
laboring and capitalist classes in society spawned the concept of socialism where in turn the
benevolent members of society would help reflect their knowledge onto the proletariat and thus
the equilibrium would occur. This soon inspired the Communist ideology where a classless
society existed and everyone was working for the common good. Marx thought of Communism
as a new form of social organization that majored in cooperation among society. The second
father of the big debate would be Max Weber. Weber took a middle standpoint on the Capitalistic
spectrum. Weber was influenced by a religious ideology; one of a protestant work ethic
viewpoint; work hard in this life and be rewarded in Heaven. Weber greatly believed that by
impressing God, an individual will succeed in life. Although Weber was strongly influenced by the
works of Karl Marx he was more interested in the existential reasoning as to why technology came
to be, his conclusion was that work got complicated and that individuals needed a way to be

Essay On Barefoot Running
Our bodies goes through repetitive forces of impact each day. Anything from stepping off a curb to
landing after a jump contributes the impact our bodies withstand daily. Aside from the impact due
to daily routine, runners add an extra amount of force during exercise. The most basic cause of
injury while running is considered to be ground reaction force. Ground reaction force is the force
that the ground exerts on the body during contact. while wearing shoes throughout the day we are
experiencing a change in strike pattern. In the book Born to Run, the writers suggest that running
with shoes has an effect on landing pattern of the footduring running. It also suggest that barefoot
runners have naturally shorter strides and higher cadence. This reduction of stride had been shown
to reduce the possibility of hip and knee injuriesdue to less pressure on the joints. In the article

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the
murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that
all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though
taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver
inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously
formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt;
the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an
awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or
an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy
substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling
accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless
shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocenceof Bonnie, the dependability of
Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the
true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the
family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and
thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed
Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended
and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it
would have to be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy
bear doll (Capote 78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize
everything the Clutters were: the couch a stand in for work

Choosing Unhampered Market Process
Analyse of what would happen if the steering (injection of money) would be abandoned and a
return to the unhampered market process was chosen instead.
Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have
gone through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop
at different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society
to another. Today, money is no more backed by commodity, not equal to gold reserves; it has only a
promissory standard. Thus no standard can effectively determine true money value as it is
constantly redefined by consumers with relative understanding of other products true values in the
market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is
chasing outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in
the market with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal
making them to cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process.
In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with
government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan
interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on
negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. These types of
investments would crash if we return to the unhampered market process, as the government will
be unable to give those tax breaks or loan backups. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes,
and service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business
without support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. There will be more
unemployed people.
Finland as a social welfare state cannot be the same in an unhampered market process because
government will not be a producer. Cheap public services like free education, cheap medical care
and social insurance like Kela would be more expensive.

Thus, to be compatible with the accuracy of gyros and accelerometers currently in use, a rate
table system must be capable of measuring and controlling angular velocities down to the order of
0.001 degree per second. Single Axis test tables provide precise angular position, rate and
acceleration for development and production testing of inertial components and systems. What is
Gyroscope? Micro machined inertial sensors, consisting of accelerometers and gyroscopes are one
of the most important types of silicon based sensors. A gyroscope is a device for measuring or
maintaining orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum. The Gyroscope developed
at GIKI is a thermally actuated 3 DoF micro machined gyroscope utilizing Chevron thermal
actuators to drive proof mass. There are a number of actuation mechanisms which include
electrostatic, piezoelectric, thermal etc. The benefits of this design will be described later. These
actuators are activated by Joule heating. When a potential difference is applied between two or
more points on electrically conducting material it causes flow of electrical current which induces
thermal strain due to internal heating. Consequently these thermal strains generate the desired
mechanical deformation or force. These thermal actuators are capable of providing a large force.
There are two types of thermal actuators: hot/cold

Christian Beliefs In Beowulf
The Beliefs of Beowulf
Beowulf can be referred to as the mother poem of England. The true origin of the poem is
unknown. However, it is believed to be written by a monk around the time of 700 A.D. near the
modern day West Midlands of England. Regardless, the author expresses their knowledge of
Christianity and paganism throughout the poem. The two beliefs are very different from one
another, but the author was able to tie them together to build the story. The paganism reflects past
memories of the beliefs that the people in the land shared. Christianity gives reference to the new
beliefs and values the people were following at the time the poem was written. Even though the
author of Beowulf is unknown, he/she has done a well job of expressing the poem with Christian
values, Pagan beliefs, and the conflict between the two. Beowulf refers to Christianity before
paganism. The first reference is the Song of Creation found in lines 3 13: As day after day the
music rang/Loud in that hall, the harp s rejoicing/Call and the poet s clear songs, sung/Of the
ancient beginnings of us all, recalling/The Almighty making the earth, shaping/These beautiful
plains marked off by oceans,/Then proudly setting the sun and moon/To glow across the land and
light it;/The corners of the earth were made lovely with trees/And leaves, made quick with life,
with each/Of the nations who now move on its face. Many of Hrothgar s men are still pagan,
however, he has converted to Christianity. Hrothgar

There were also key changes in other parts of the Middle East, which had conventionally supported the West. The pro western system in Iraq was overthrown in 1958 and Syria and Libya both began to look to the Soviet Unionfor military aid. Along with many other countries, they would have known that the situation in England was unstable and William may have thought Wales were planning an invasion. Although Williams army was fearfully exposed according to Purser, the Scottish did not capitalize on this opportunity. This could be interpreted as Malcolm showing he did not want to fight against William. This point links into the treaty of Abernethy. In the same year Malcolm met William at abernethy and signed a treaty which shown that he recognised William as his superior. According to purser, in good faith , Malcolm kicked Edgar out of his court which would have made further rebellions in the north very difficult. Overall, Scotland was initially a threat around the time of the Northern rebellion however the treaty of Abernathy played a main factor in extinguishing the threat of the ... This began America s active participation in what is currently known as international, or intercountry, adoption. It is the process by which the prospective adoptive parent adopts a child from a country other than the parent s own, through permanent legal means, and brings that child to the parent s country of residence to live with the parent permanently. The capital city Jerusalem is designated as the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High (Ps 46:4). The Holy One of Israel The term The Holy One of Israel reflects the dialectical relation between The Holy One and Israel . It is a relation with the Holy One with a non holy entity[5]. The Holy One requires Israel to be holy. Be holy because I, the Lord Your God, am holy (Lev 19:2). The separate one becomes the attached one. Their relation is bound by covenant. The challenge of the relation is Israel s unfaithfulness in worshipping other god s. The most notable example is the imposition of Baal worship on the northern kingdom by Ahab s marriage to Jezebel. From slavery to segregation, it might seem that now that we have laws outlawing these forms of discrimination, we are free from all forms of prejudice. While this might seem true, we are actually not. We are too quick to overlook an issue that affects a great number of us. And by us, I mean all animals. Many humans tend to have a feeling of superiority over other species of animals. Reasons for this might be because humans feel as other species are not as intelligent as them or because we cannot communicate properly to know their interests. This is not justifiable. • 17. Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness Narrative Style in Conrad s Heart of Darkness The Heart of Darkness employs, broadly, a three framed narrative style. Conrad, the author, places an unnamed narrator aboard the Nellie with Marlow, who is the third narrator/frame. The unnamed narrator functions as both a teller of Marlow s tale to us and a listener to Marlow. The significance of these frames can be analysed by looking at three effects which this arrangement produces. The usage of Marlow as narrator instead of Conrad himself became important due to Conrad s anxiety to adopt an English point of view which had been denied to him largely. Marlow s attempt at recreating his subjective past is met with unease on the part of the narrator and like a litmus paper he brings out the intellectual and emotional effect the author is seeking. When the effect has been so affirmed, the author proceeds to manipulate it. When, for example, we see Marlow s desperation for having missed the chance to speak to Kurtz as absurd, Conrad makes the listeners sigh with the same reaction. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare s Hamlet. Many of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern s adventures and actions have already been written by Shakespeare which only gives Stoppard so much to incorporate for himself. During this celebration, he says that it would be an evil day if he were upset right now. This almost suggests that he is unhappy right now and is forcing himself to be happy. It guides the reader to question this happiness and separate the narrator, and in turn themselves, from the scene laid out before them. The distrust is only heightened when from the very trees and flowers themselves a question is whispered. Where is that dream from before? Where did it go? This is how the fourth stanza concludes as it lays the groundwork for the rest of the poem by tying together the first four stanzas. These first four stanzas are used by Wordsworth to prepare the reader to understand him. Throughout the first four stanzas, Wordsworth continually drives home the separation between this man and the nature around him. • 32. Civilization Vs. Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies Civilization versus Savagery The Lord of the Flies is a classic novel written by William Golding in the year of 1954. The novel tells the tale of a group of schoolboys who are miraculously marooned on a desert island after their plane crashes. At first the boys attempt to govern themselves and to keep a grasp on civilization and order; In the beginning the island was very much like their home, but eventually this ideology fades into savagery and brutality. The boys resort to theft, torture and even murder. Although The Lord of the Flies depicts many themes and morals, the underlying theme is the battle between the human impulse towards civilization and savagery. This theme is brilliantly and respectively portrayed by battle of the two characters; Jack and Ralph. In the beginning there was only the main protagonist Ralph and Piggy, they soon realise that there is a possibility that there may be other survivors and decide to call the others using a conch shell that Ralph and Piggy had found earlier, Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon. • 35. The True Hero In Wuulf And Beowulf As Walter Cronkite, a former CBS anchorman, once said, In seeking truth you have to get both sides of the story. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king, Hrothgar, are heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel s twelve year massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however, it is told through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic poem and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption, and unmoral actions. Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal warriors. Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their actions as their respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory mead hall to distribute treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar, whose word was obeyed all over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands in Beowulf (6). Receiving praise and craving eternal fame, the Danes followed Hrothgar s instructions at all costs. Furthermore, the Danes are influenced by Hrothgar through the Shaper s songs. Business Strategy For Competitive Advantage Pre requisite Module: Business Strategy for competitive advantage Previous Module: Introduction to people management (Hill, 2009) state Molex s competitive advantage is based on a strategy that blends low costs, excellent customer service, and the mass production of standardized products that are sold globally . Using a pre requisite module like business strategy for competitive advantage, it can be assumed that Molex are using theoretical concepts from porters generic strategies like focused low cost and differentiation in order to gain an advantage over their competitors as previously mentioned in the case study. (Sowell, 2006) further illustrates this point stating firms like Molex will drive their cost lower through investments in plant efficiencies . Linking this back to (Hill, 2009) where it goes on to say that manufacturing sites are located in countries where cost conditions are favorable . We can therefore see that these countries, which are cost favorable, were not chosen at random, but instead selected using a focused low cost strategy. This informs companies like Molex to invest their resources in plant efficiencies, further suggesting that these plant efficiencies means an area where capacity utilization can be met but keeping both fixed and variable costs low. This favorable country that is not specified in the case study, could be less developed a country where exchange rate is favorable to the US dollar. Hitt et al. (2006) states a ... Analysis Of The Poem Maus My Father Bleed History Essay The curiosity of Artie about Vladek saying that Anja was not pretty, during the fight between Vladek and Lucia, incites Artie to interrupt Vladek s story of the past. The interruptions that Art Spiegelman writes into his comic, Maus My Father Bleed History, breaks up Vladek s story about surviving the Holocaust, which is what happens in the scene with Vladek and Lucia s fight. Spiegelman uses the interruptions of Vladek s story to lead out of it and then back into Mausto assist in clarifying information for the reader, to show the father son relationship between Artie and Vladek, and also to explain how Maus was written. The incidents that Spiegelman uses within his panels and text work as a way to give insight into how Artie and Vladek s father son relationship works. A case in which Artie and Vladek s relationship is shown is right after Vladek tells Artie the story about Lucia and he says, But this is what I just told you about Lucia and so I don t want you should write this in your book (Spiegelman 23). To help interrupt Vladek s story Spiegelman makes the panel in which this dialogue takes place have no border around it, which gives the panel a sense of breaking up the story that Vladek was telling to Artie. Vladek interrupting his story shows that while he felt this was important information for Artie to know, he does not want it in the comic. • 39. Analysis Of Mississippi Goddam By Nina Simone It is a jaunty ragtime melody that fools listeners into briefly perceiving the number as a feel good pop song, yet sustains its relevance by acknowledging the continued failure of a full realization of Black freedom a century after the Thirteenth Amendment. [1. Sound of the Break: Jazz and the Failures of Emancipation Bridget R. Cooks American Quarterly (June 2016) no. 2 330http:/ /muse.jhu.edu/article/622084] It took Nina Simonean hour to write Mississippi Goddam, which is a song based on the place names of oppression. It was written immediately in the wake of the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, where four African American girls, none older than fourteen, were murdered while at Sunday school. In this song, she mocked government promises, stereotypical insults, and the continuing warning of public leaders to Go Slow , which the backup singers call out Too Slow! repeatedly. This song had no intention of being uplifting with lyrics like we shall overcome , instead it is a song about a movement. A woman who did not have much to begin with and small hope for the American future sings, Oh but this whole country is full of lies... You re all gonna die and die like flies. Nina Simone never thought she was going to stay in the show business. When she first got into show business, she wasn t even a blues singer or jazz singer. She was a classical pianist who studied to become the first black classical pianist in America, and that s all that was on her mind and what she prepared to be. She born with the name of Euince Waymon in a town called Tryon, North Carolina. She began to play the piano at around three or four. Her mother was a preacher and took her to the revivals, where she started to play the piano at church. Revival meetings were some of the most exciting times for Simone, since the music was so intense and the feeling of going out of yourself was the best, especially since she would lead these meetings. When Simone was seven, the choir of her church gave a program at the local theater, and she was on it. Two white women heard her playing some songs and one of them, Mrs. Mazzanovich, decided then and there to give music lessons. For five years, she studied classical piano with this ... What are the main differences? Monopolistic competition differs from perfect competition in the fact that production does not take place at the lowest possible cost. Because of this, firms are left with excess production capacity. Monopolistic competition is a type of competition within an industry where all firms produce similar substitutable products, all firms are able to enter the industry, all firms are profit maximizers and finally where all firms have some market power, which means none of them are price takers. Whereas perfect competition is a market structure where all the firms have to follow those five criteria: sell identical products, be price takers, have small market share, buyers have full knowledge, freedom of entry and exit. Choose an industry with various producers. Draw a positioning map for these companies and explain how they differentiate their products.

Therefore retailers may pursuit mergers and acquisitions as a mean for growth. One of the main mergers in the retail industry is the merger of Carrefour and Promodes in France to create the world s second largest retailer after Wal mart. One of the main reasons for this merger is that both companies find it difficult to grow organically. • 53. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocenceof Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. Systems exist to maintain the society and bring prosperity, the monetary system is one and have gone through different stages and uses in its development. Due to different needs, societies develop at different pace so, the advantages and disadvantages of monetary system varies from one society to another. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is that it takes time to produce. The too much money injected in the economy is chasing outputs of lesser values. Thus, less valuable products are produced and then kept alive in the market with this artificial government money. The values of our commodities are now unreal making them to cost much less than they would have in the unhampered market process. In Finland as well as well as other western states, most people that bought apartments with government backed loans could not have afforded it if the governments were not giving home loan interest tax deductions. Some profit calculations in the housing market investments are based on negative cash flow deductions and 100% deduction of the investment expenses. All toxic firms that are creating ponzi schemes, and service providers like cleaning companies ran by people who would not be in the business without support money (startti raha) from the unemployment office will die off. There will be more unemployed people. Finland as a social welfare state cannot be the same in an unhampered market process because government will not be a producer. Cheap public services like free education, cheap medical care and social insurance like Kela would be more expensive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, to be compatible with the accuracy of gyros and accelerometers currently in use, a rate table system must be capable of measuring and controlling angular velocities down to the order of 0.001 degree per second. Single Axis test tables provide precise angular position, rate and acceleration for development and production testing of inertial components and systems. What is Gyroscope? Micro machined inertial sensors, consisting of accelerometers and gyroscopes are one of the most important types of silicon based sensors. A gyroscope is a device for measuring or maintaining orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum. The Gyroscope developed at GIKI is a thermally actuated 3 DoF micro machined gyroscope utilizing Chevron thermal actuators to drive proof mass. There are a number of actuation mechanisms which include electrostatic, piezoelectric, thermal etc. The benefits of this design will be described later. These actuators are activated by Joule heating. When a potential difference is applied between two or more points on electrically conducting material it causes flow of electrical current which induces thermal strain due to internal heating. Consequently these thermal strains generate the desired mechanical deformation or force. These thermal actuators are capable of providing a large force. There are two types of thermal actuators: hot/cold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Christian Beliefs In Beowulf The Beliefs of Beowulf Beowulf can be referred to as the mother poem of England. The true origin of the poem is unknown. However, it is believed to be written by a monk around the time of 700 A.D. near the modern day West Midlands of England. Regardless, the author expresses their knowledge of Christianity and paganism throughout the poem. The two beliefs are very different from one another, but the author was able to tie them together to build the story. The paganism reflects past memories of the beliefs that the people in the land shared. Christianity gives reference to the new beliefs and values the people were following at the time the poem was written. Even though the author of Beowulf is unknown, he/she has done a well job of expressing the poem with Christian values, Pagan beliefs, and the conflict between the two. Beowulf refers to Christianity before paganism. The first reference is the Song of Creation found in lines 3 13: As day after day the music rang/Loud in that hall, the harp s rejoicing/Call and the poet s clear songs, sung/Of the ancient beginnings of us all, recalling/The Almighty making the earth, shaping/These beautiful plains marked off by oceans,/Then proudly setting the sun and moon/To glow across the land and light it;/The corners of the earth were made lovely with trees/And leaves, made quick with life, with each/Of the nations who now move on its face. Many of Hrothgar s men are still pagan, however, he has converted to Christianity. Hrothgar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
