Relationship Analysis Between Statutes and Case Law
Relationship Analysis between Statutes and Case Law
Laws against discrimination in employment were developed to provide remedies for victims of this
unfortunate form of behavior that exists in America today. The following paper provides insight into
lawsuits based on discrimination in the areas of age, religion, and disability and the statutes that
provide complainants with the ability to seek relief from discriminatory practices.

In 1966 the EEOC issued regulations that provided that employers must afford accommodation unless
it would cause a serious inconvenience to the conduct of business. In 1967, this regulation was further
refined to read undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. These regulations were
quickly challenged as was the EEOC authority to issue such regulations. (Foltin Standish, 2004, p. 3).
Finally, in 1972 Congress amended Title VII adding a new section 701(j), which reads as follows:
The term religion includes all aspects of religious observance and practice, as well as belief, unless an
employer demonstrates that he is unable to reasonably accommodate to an employee s or perspective
employee s religious observance or practice without undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s
business.
This still left the defining of the terminology reasonably accommodate and undue hardship to the legal
system.

Persepolis Anoosh Dichotomy
In Marjane Satrapi s book Persepolis, her portrayal of the people involved in the revolution challenges
the paradigm of fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism typically linked to Iran. She does this with
her uncle, Anoosh. Anoosh is different from the other characters in the book so far. A lover and hero,
Anoosh tells Marjane of how he had loved a girl from the USSR and she broke his heart. He states,
Russians aren t like us... It s hearts they don t have, they don t know how to love. Anoosh makes the
dichotomy between them and us. He believes Iranians are different from those in other parts of the
world, Iranians are lovers. Earlier, Anoosh tells Marjane of his time as Secretary to his brother in the

The Causes Of Al Qaeda And The Attack Of September 11
On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by terrorist group name Al Qaeda, they
hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four planes
crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last plane did not
make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack on September 11th
could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as severe. Certain things like
lack of government communication, not very thorough background checks on middle eastern
immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks impacted the severity of the
situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government did not communicate effectively,
so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event police had been invigilating possible acts of
terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui, with all of his information on his computer. Police
applied for a search warrant to search through Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he
was accused of being involved in the attack on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama
Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s attack important details were not passed on to the needed
government agency. When the first plane crashed into Tower 1 of the World Trade Center everyone
thought that a small commuter plane a lost control and crashed. When the first Twin Tower was hit

The Motif of Ernest Hemingway´s A Farewell to Arms
The world contains many recurring events that remind humans of morals or things that are important.
In the novel A Farewell to Arms many events come again and again. Usually, these events that repeat
or come again have a deeper message inscribed in the text. This is not unlike whereas the novel The
Great Gatsby has weather that unfailingly matches up with the tone and mood of the text. The author
Ernest Hemingway has created A Farewell to Arms with a motif that is very precise. The motif of rain
and nature in Hemingway s novel divulges that there are things that a human beings cannot control;
making them recognize what they lack and how life can bring sadness.
The constant appearance of rain allows for sadness to be foreshadowed; ... Show more content on

The rain which is death the leaves which represent life, fell and rotted. Rain is a spontaneous thing and
is not scheduled, planned and is not in our power. Nature has a mind of its own and for humans or the
people in the war to have that power are supernatural which one cannot have that kind of power. Also,
humans are not capable of controlling life itself. If that were to happen in this world, there would be
chaos in power and no one would be able to die peacefully and obtain that beauty of dying a heroic
death. Life cannot be controlled and some people see death as a beauty for it takes humanity to God.
But in life, there are many things that have been with us but when we realize that it is gone, we are
burdened with our own sadness.
Ronald Oliver, a director said that Women don t know what they want. Men never know what they
have. The rain in the novel alters the characters mind to remind them of what they do not have. The
rain brings this quote into thought about what Henry sees and feels. You knew it rained down that
rained...my sweet love Catherine down might rain... (Hemingway, 197). When he says this, he s
looking at the rain and wishes that he could be in her arms and that he too could hold her one more
time in his arms. He sees the rain and sees his pains and wishes deeply that he

Jacobus The Play
Intolerance breeds injustice. Injustice invariably leads to rebellion and retaliation, and these will lead
to escalation on the part of both making reconciliation almost impossible. It would appear that during
times of stress, despair and frustration, people become increasingly irrational, and they do things
which they never think they are capable of. And so we see hideous brutality perpetrated by the most
gentle people. Once started, religious strife has a tendency to go on and on, to become permanent
feuds. Today we see such intractable inter religious wars in Northern Nigeria, between Muslims and
Christians, Hindus and Muslims in South Asia and in many other places. Attempts to bring about
peace have failed again and again. Always the extremist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is described in the play as a strong, fearless, tough woman, however, during all those years she was
struggling with her fears and trying not to loose her children. Many situations show what she would

Waldo Reflection
Where is Waldo? This question has been occupying my mind for years. Sometimes, I would spot him
right away in those crowded pictures. For the times I couldn t, I wouldn t give up or get bored; I d turn
the book to see the picture from a different angle. I would spend hours if I had to, ignoring my sore
muscles just to spot a red and white shirt. Over the years, this particular question has changed
numerous times and possessed a myriad of disparate forms, but my childhood attitude and resilience
towards a question, any type of question, would stay unchanged. In the end, Waldo was always there...
waiting to be found.
As I learned more about radiology, my troubling question of what I want to become was answered.

Finding answers can be very fulfilling, and so can finding new questions. There are yet more
questions out there. The idea of incorporating the abstractness of radiology and its depth of knowledge
on the human body with an actual body needing intervention was something that genuinely intrigued
me. Consequently, after I graduated from medical school, I joined the research team of the
Interventional Radiology Section at the University of Wisconsin, Madison to study intra arterial
therapies. My hard work as a volunteer was appreciated, and I was offered a paid research position to
investigate novel imaging modalities and thermal ablation treatments.
In the pursuit of my destination, I ve learned a lot from my experiences through my competencies and
curiosity. However, good mentoring and teamwork have also been vital in my development as a doctor
and a scientist. Can Waldo still hide for long if I have extra eyes and know where to look at? That is
why I want to pursue my training in the US, where I can most resourcefully shape myself to become a
competent radiologist. To this end, I believe spending my preliminary year in surgery would further
enhance my motor skills and the patient care I provide while it would advance my knowledge of
anatomy and give me the opportunity to personally experience the dynamics of the human body.
I understand that real life is a lot more

Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant Essay
Background
Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is the biggest advanced wastewater treatment plant
in the world, which covers 153 acres. The facility is operated by District of Columbia Water and
Sewer Authority (DC Water). It provides wastewater collection and treatment services to more than 2
million customers in Washington, USA. The treatment plant can treat up to 370 millions of gallons per
day in Maryland, the District, and Virginia suburbs, with a complete treatment peak flow of 740 mgd,
and an excess flow of 336 mgd (Eckert et al., 2010).
Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant received awards from the National Association of
Clean Water Agencies for having a peak performance for more than 10 sequential years. In the year
2003, the plant also received an excellence in management award. In the previous years, the plant has
successfully upgraded and improved its liquid processing systems. There is little doubt that DC water
has been a champion of protection and restoring all their waterways.
To provide a reliable supply of consumable water from the Potamic River to the city, the congress
commissioned the construction of an aqueduct system in the year 1852. Washington Aqueduct was
designed and constructed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The operation began in 1864. In the
20th century, filtration plants were added to the system.
A sewage treatment plant was constructed in the Blue Plains area, at the southernmost tip of DC in
1938, which costs

Analysis Of Lies My Teacher Told Me
For when textbook authors leave out the warts, the problems, the unfortunate character traits, and the
mistaken ideas, they reduce heroes from dramatic men and women to melodramatic stick figures.
Their inner struggles disappear and they become goody goody, not just merely good. (Loewen, pg.
29). Lies My Teacher Told Me is a non fiction book written by author, American sociologist, and
historian, James W. Loewen. The popular belief is that schools buy the textbook that best fits the
curriculum, and by following these textbooks, students are learning to the best of their ability.
However, Loewen challenges this belief by providing evidence from eighteen different American
history textbooks. He believes that people in history should not be depicted as heroes when they
simply are not. To continue, Loewen states that students find history to be so boring since they can not
relate to it or the people in it. On page 354, he even concludes his book by stating, Students will start
finding history interesting when their teachers and textbook stop lying to them. There are three great
taboos in textbook publishing... sex, religion, and social class. (Loewen, pg. 27). This quote from the
book demonstrates that textbooks only touch upon what their authors believe students should be
learning about, or in other words, the less interesting, same timeworn stories they all mostly have
already learned about. History textbooks lie to students by leaving out important details about key
events and significant people. Loewen s purpose in writing this book was to prove exactly that to
students, and to provide them with the truth. Throughout the entire book, he decides to write about
people that students are taught to consider heroes, such as; Hellen Keller, Woodrow Wilson,
Christopher Columbus, and numerous more. Loewen succeeded in exposing people American s think
of as heroes for whom they actually are, and also prospered in exposing textbooks by providing the
truth behind the stories students are all taught. Eleven chapters have shown that textbooks supply
irrelevant and even erroneous details, while omitting pivotal questions and facts in their treatments of
issues... (Loewen, pg. 301). Throughout this book, Loewen

Essay on Why Britain Won the Battle of Britain
Why Britain Won the Battle of Britain
After taking France in addition to his list of captured countries on mainland Europe, Adolf Hitler set
his sights on Britain. After the success of Blitzkrieg, the evacuation of Dunkirk and the surrender of
France, Britain was by herself. However, before Hitler could contemplate undertaking an invasion he
was advised by his generals that Germany had to destroy the Fighter Command of the Royal Air Force
in order to gain superiority in the air. This would in turn enable him to gain control of the English
Channel in order to transfer the 160,000 German troops on the 2000 invasion barges, which had been

For example, under the category of technology I could say that one reason why Britain won the battle
of Britain was because they had the services of the radar system.
Firstly, the tactics employed by both sides would play a key role in itself to deciding the outcome of
the Battle of Britain. The battle started on July 10th 1940 when the Luftwaffe attempted to gain
control of the Straits of Dover. The tactics employed by the Luftwaffe was to tempt the RAF out for a
full scale battle. However, by the end of July, the RAF had lost 150 aircraft while the Luftwaffe had
lost 268. These figures illustrate that there was a much greater loss of aircraft experienced by
Germany than the British. These large losses of planes from the outset of a battle would have been a
significant blow to any army however, this would have damaged German morale as a greater loss of
planes was not something they would have contemplated and as they were coming into this battle with
such high expectations, this would have been a significant blow to the Luftwaffe and a stern wake up
call to their commanders. However, Britain too was suffering, it was the loss of trained pilots that was
crippling the RAF, and the real battle had yet to begin. In August, the Luftwaffe changed their tactics
and started to attack Fighter Command s airfields, operation rooms and radar stations the idea being
that the RAF

William Blake Allusion
William Blake was a visionary English poet who lived from 1757 1827. He is now considered one of
the most important figures of the Romantic Age. His works of poetry have become more important in
the 21st century than anyone would ve thought many years ago. Much of his poetry has obvious
biblical references.
In the poems, The Lamb, The Poison Tree and The Tyger, Blake uses many techniques including
symbolism, apostrophe, metaphors, rhetorical questions, repetition, allusions and alliteration.
At the outset of The Lamb, we see the use of alliteration. He begins the poem with Little lamb and
repeats it throughout. He then introduces rhetorical questions, and the combination of these literary
devices creates a childlike picture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though there is no reference to a tree until the last line of the poem, Blake alludes to the Garden of
Eden where Adam and Eve ate fruit from the Tree of Knowledge by using words such as garden, apple
and tree in the poem. And into my garden stole, Till it bore an apple bright, My foe outstretched
beneath the tree (Blake 1794/2007 p.807).
Blake uses repetition in his poem by repeating I was angry with, in the first stanza. I was angry with
my friend; I told my wrath, my wrath did end. I was angry with my foe: I told it not, my wrath did
grow (Blake 1794/2007 p.807).
Written in Songs of Experience, The Tyger, by William Blake tells about the evil in the Bible. Not
only does it include references to the Bible, it includes references to its sister poem, The Lamb.
William Blake uses personification to show stars in the sky throwing spears and their tears filling
Heaven. When the stars threw down their spears And water d heaven with their tears (Blake
1794/2007 p.1072).
Blake also uses imagery in the poem. He paints a picture of God hammering out the body of a
ferocious tiger on an anvil. What the hammer? What the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What
the anvil? What dread grasp (Blake 1794/2007 p.

Immigration Historiography
Immigration has been a central theme in the development of the United States. The influx of
foreigners into the country has been met with acceptance and restrictive policy since its formation.
The reaction to diverse immigration created exclusionary policies first introduced in the late
nineteenth century and held in place by national origins quotas until 1965. The purpose of this
historiography is to show how recent scholarship on immigration has developed and changed in the
last fifteen years. This historiography is divided into three types of studies. The first is focused on how
historians have extricated the individual from the broad historiography to give voice to specific ethnic
groups as they negotiated for a place in the country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first type of study regards specific groups targeted by restrictive immigration policy. Various
ethnic groups exhibited agency as they combated discrimination. The works of Mae M. Ngai, Estelle
T. Lau, and John S.W. Park are used to support this initial position. Although these works focus on
policy formation they also show immigrant responses to racially specific federal policy. Resistance
and adaptability are themes that connect these works as immigrants negotiated a place for themselves
in the United States. The second grouping of studies will develop imposition theory to interpret social
and political responses to immigration over time. Policy imposed upon a targeted group is at the core
of this theory as the state mandated stringent requirements for entrance into the country and placed
rigorous standards on resident aliens once here. John Higham, Desmond King, and Martha Gardner
assess this plight. These works elaborated on imposition theory, as immigrants became Americans and
struggled against acculturation and preservation of their culture. The last grouping of studies evaluates
the development of a broad immigration policy. Keith Fitzgerald, Cheryl Shanks, and Roger Daniels
studies span over a century of immigration policy. Evaluating these broad interpretations on
immigration

Romance de La Pena Negra Essay
A commentary of Romance de la pena negra, Federico García Lorca Lorca described Romance de la
pena negra as one of the most representative poems from the Romancero gitano . The poem was
written in 1924, when Lorca had been sent away from Granada, due to his homosexuality and was
living in Madrid, the centre of the cultural ferment of the 1920 s. Here, he attended the Institución
Libre de Enseñanza (ILE), where he was inspired to search for the national Spanish spirit, through

This alludes to the idea of maternity. The next image as a whole implies the bouncing circular
movement of Soledad s breasts, as she comes down the mountain. Lorca uses synesthesia, employing
the word redondas (8) to describe canciones (8) rather than Soledad s breasts. The word giran also
relates back to Soledad s pain, as if her breasts are crying out as they move around. The tone then
changes in the next stanza. An unknown voice (typical of the romance ) speaks to Soledad and says:
Soledad, Por quien preguntas sin compaña y a estas horas? (9/10) This voice is a voice of compassion.
However what is said reveals a lot about the speaker. The fact that the speaker refers to her as Soledad
implies that there is a sort of familiarity between them, as does the word preguntas instead of the
polite version, pregunta . The speaker also chooses the word compaña rather than compañía a gypsy
like manor, implying that this character is from the same background as Soledad Montoya a typical
gypsy name. Soledad s response is very aggressive and is loaded with a sense of pride, as she is trying
to hide her shame at having waited for so long throughout the night. She says pregunte por quien
pregunte, Dime, ¿a ti que se te importa? (11/12) She also uses tu to address the speaker, reinforcing
the idea that they are linked somehow. The next words that Soledad speaks are arguably

Christian s book gives you a better understanding of the order of how the world began to fall in place.
He allows us to know not only what and where, but also when, which is important in understanding
our history. Starting out as Homo Sapiens, human kind has come a long way to become what we are
today.
I believe David Christian backs up his claims exceptionally with information. He creates an
outstanding balance between fact and opinion. His opinions are always backed with reasonings and
fact, which leave us very convinced and satisfied. For example; The emergence of new forms of
radical anti Westernization is merely one reflection of growing resistance to Western values (Christian
88). He then backs up his claim in the next paragraph stating, In 1960 the wealthiest 20 percent of the
world s population earned about thirty times as much as the poorest twenty percent; in 1991 the
wealthiest twenty percent earned sixty one times as much (Christian 88). To prove his point, Christian
applies opinions, facts, statistics, and judgement to stand next to his claims. He is a writer in accuracy,
not just opinion.
David Christian has indeed written a phenomenal book that breaks down our history into satisfactory
proportions. It gives us a better grasp

Theodore Roosevelt Ideology
Theodore Roosevelt exemplified the sentiments of the turn of the century through his electrifyingly
captivating leadership and progressive ideology. His populist ideas and policies against the very
powerful monopolies intrigued people and began a strong progressive movement. Even though he was
the namesake for the well know Teddy Bear, he was known for being strong and upfront when he
thought something was wrong; he was a very morally driven politician. Theodore presumed to expose
fraud and corruption in any political office he entered. The Republican party even went as far as to

During the strike of coal miners of 1902, America s source of power was threatened thus inducing the
president to take action. Unions asked for certain terms, such as lower working hours, safer

coal union and the coal mine owners. He did not have the power to intervene so instead he summoned
for representatives on both sides to meet and come to an agreement. He, too, attended that meeting
even though he was injured and in a wheelchair from a prior traffic accident. This meeting marked the
turn of the U.S. Government from strikebreaker to peacemaker in industrial disputes (Grossman,

Hayes, and Grover Cleveland, had taken in favor of the industries, Roosevelt choose to seek peace,
which he thought was in the public s best interest. Though the meeting seemed to have ended in the
coal operators favor (no compromise), Theodore continued to seek help to get to a solution. He was
even prepared to send the U.S. army into the mines and seize power to get the coal mines started
again. But alas, the operators decided to compromise and make what would become the Anthracite

Essay The High Commercial Use of Asbestos in Construction
Asbestos has been proved to be reliable in construction as adhesives, resistance to heat, high tensile
strength, and budget safe. There are many different types of asbestos like, amphibole and chrysotile.
The most common type is chrysotile, or white asbestos and the chemical formula is Mg3(Si2O5)
(OH)4. This chemical is often used all throughout schools making children chief victims. Though
reliable as structural support, asbestos has been proved to be a ticking time bomb. During the 1980s
asbestos would be exposed to 35% of school children. The problem is the asbestos flake off and

This graph proves the high relevance of asbestos in the 1980s. As time progressed the problems with
the chemical was proved. As of right now there is a ban on asbestos in commercial items. Although,
the chemical is still prevalent and attacking because the removal of it is as deadly as the chemical
itself. Its proven that, The removal process releases asbestos fibers which could result in more cancer
in the workmen than would have resulted in the usual occupants had the asbestos been left in place. In
the situation where you need to combat asbestos the best method is to wet the asbestos causing the
fibers to stay intact. When you disrupt the fibers they spread and become exposed. It s a tricky
chemical to treat and it s naturally man made for example, hidden under rocks, resulting in the current
existence.
This problem is certainly not only current in the United States. The graph above covers the countries

Foreshadowing In Back To The Future
In the 1985 movie Back to the Future, Robert Zemeckis uses foreshadowing, symbolism, diegetic and
non diegetic sound, parallels, irony and morals, as explained through the textbook The Art of
Watching Films, to take the viewer on a journey through time. He reinforces the idea that every little
action counts. These concepts are intermixed with comedy as we witness the adventures of Marty
McFly (Michael J. Fox) and his best friend Doctor Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd) in 1985 and
1955. We meet Marty s parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson) first as adults, then as teenagers, and
again as adults. Marty also grows to realize the consequences of his actions.
With a concept as difficult as time travel, without the overt use of captions, how can you convey that
you re in a different point in time? Zemeckis tackled this issue deftly through his use of dialogue,
props, and set design. In the opening period in 1985 he sets the tone of where you are and what
defines the present or normal so that when everything changes after Marty steps inside the DeLorean,
Zemeckis doesn t need to use a caption announcing the year 1955. The viewer is able to easily ...

Symptoms and Treatments of Coronary Heart Disease
Coronary Heart Disease
Coronary Heart Disease affects the circulatory system specifically the heart. Arteries called the
coronary arteries surround the heart and provide nutrients and oxygen so the heart can operate.
Sometimes cholesterol or fatty deposits build up on the walls of the artery blocking and reducing the
amount of blood that can flow through the artery. These obstructions block nutrients and oxygen from
getting to the heart s muscles, which can then weaken the heart s ability to pump blood or even cause
it to completely fail.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Coronary Heart disease vary depending on how severe the case is. The main
symptoms for the disease are:
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Nausea
Vomiting
In serious cases heart attacks or heart failure
Treatment
Medicines There are a variety of medicines that can be used to treat coronary heart disease and
prevent symptoms. These medicines include:
Statins
Are used to lower cholesterol and control it.
Warfarin
Are used to prevent the formation of blood clots.
ACE inhibitors
Are used to lower elevated blood pressure.
Anti anginal medications
Are used to relieve pressure on the coronary arteries surrounding the heart.
Although these medicines are effective they are short term treatments and do not permanently treat
coronary heart disease.
Bypass surgery Coronary bypass artery surgery involves taking a blood vessel from the legs arms or
chest and grafting it onto the heart.

The Traditional Family And The Socialization Of The Modern...
Introduction.
The family is one of the oldest but most important institution known to man and the society in which
he/ she lives. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2005) a family consists of two or more people,
one of whom is the householder, related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing in the same
housing unit. A household consists of all people who occupy a housing unit regardless of relationship.
A household may consist of a person living alone or multiple unrelated individuals or families living
together. Therefore, during the course of time, the family structure has evolved, in some cases,
changed which resulted in different family structures forming. Two of the most important are the
traditional family structure and the modern family structure. As a result, various theorists have his/ her

The structural functionalists view the traditional family as an important institution which is the basic
building block of society that carry out the crucial functions of socialising the young and meeting the
emotional needs of its members. Additionally, some theorists argue that traditional family is universal.
To this extend, they see the family as performing several essential functions. These include:
a) Stable satisfaction of the sex drive within monogomous relationships
b) The biological reproduction of the next generation without which society cannot continue.
c) Socialisation of the young teaching basic norms and values
d) Meeting its members economic needs producing food and shelter for example
Some hold the view that the traditional family is the only institution that can perform two core
functions in society: Primary Socialisation and the Stabilisation of Adult Personalities.

Macbeth, a memorable play that keeps its patrons enthralled, but what many do not realize is that what
makes each scene so excellent is Shakespeare s exceptional shifts between blank verse, prose and
rhyme verse all through the play. Throughout Macbeth, Shakespeare switches from using blank verse

Shakespeare has used blank verse, prose, and rhyme verse in several other of his poems and plays, and
they are a common technique for Shakespeare. Shakespeare s utilization of these techniques in

Blank verse is written in a format that is usually used in poems such as its use of iambic rhythm, but
instead it is used as lines in a play. The poetically written lines are very formal and refined, so
speaking in such a way would create an appearance of grace and professionalism that one would
usually show with strangers or as in Elizabethan times even friends would be treated with some
formalities. Treating someone of high stature or relative importance too informally would be
considered rude in the Elizabethan age, as people wanted to be recognized for their earned positions.
Thus, Shakespeare s extensive inclusion of blank verse in Macbeth demonstrates the way people
normally talked during the Elizabethan time period, as royalty such as King Duncan, and dignified
people such as Macbeth and Banquo, speak in blank verse because they are treating each other in a
dignified and formal manner that is befitting of royalty and people of high

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are fasting
and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims migrated to
Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad, they were being
persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already difficult enough for them to
find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from something they were in extreme need off.
After they migrated to Medina, it was like a sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many
were actually waiting for them to arrive. After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed.
Many people may wonder why are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from
food? Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than
just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your
temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it about
purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good deeds such as
giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the day in hunger and

Youdell (2012) argues that the singular and one off multicultural events reproduce majority/minority,
Same/Other relations in their display of minoritises cultures for the appreciation of or consumption by
the majority. (p 153) This essay will look into the argument of how the one off multicultural events

(Reynolds, 2012) The schools that are hosting these singular multicultural days do have intent to
inform students of diverse cultures, yet instead are accentuating the already existing social and cultural

The way and how to teach multiculturalism in the classroom is a sensitive topic between the many
parties involved. Since multicultural education is primarily a set of beliefs and philosophies (Neito,
1994), it is a very powerful issue especially from socio political perspectives. Wright (2007) argues
that multiculturalism has no pre given destiny nationally or globally, but is continually being renewed
and re contested by political policy actors from their dominating point of view. The power of the
corporate elite demonstrates their need for social in equality through globalization, for the cheap labor
from the poorest countries that accelerate their economic growth. This cycle is what Chosudovsky
(2003) calls the Globalisation of Poverty .
The educational policies in place illustrate this globalisation of poverty when we look at the
legislations and those who write them. In the US, the educational policy is firmly under the thumbs of
these corporate elites in the form of the Business Roundtable, the public education system itself is
becoming a vehicle for socialising citizens into good compliance and complicity. (Chomsky, 2003;

There are three main characteristics of the industrial revolution which most people would think of first
which are urbanization, suburb slums and agricultural revolution.
Urbanization is when people move from small towns and the countryside to live in cities for more job

and using the method of a crop rotation which is when crops were rotated on three fields instead of

There were many effects during the industrial revolution some were economic, and some were social.
One of the economic effects was the leisure industry. Using new technology and transportation many
people were able to travel more using the national railway networks, people were able to travel for
days out to the seaside for a cheap fare and so many business people started to run hotels for mainly
the middle class to go for holidays. There were many places people could go for leisure like the
Vauxhall pleasure gardens it was a place for all to go to escape reality it had a small entrance fee, but
it was a place for all social classes to mix and socialise. With all these new places and businesses there
was more opportunities for regular and full time employment. Victorian leisure became a popular
culture in Britain and its modernization under the boost of the industrial revolution. As industrialism
and urban growth began to grind down traditional patterns of rural life. Music halls became very
popular by the 1800 s and succeeded as a prototype modern entertainment industry . The middle class

The Use Of Satire In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The definition of chivalry may differ from person to person. It can be explained from a woman s point
of view, a citizen s point of view, or a specific generation s point of view. Though the meaning of
chivalry can be slightly altered to fit contrasting situations today, it has specific roots reaching back to
the 1100s AD. That century was the birthplace of some of the morals we uphold today. Unfortunately,
chivalry and everything it stands for is slowly leaking out of our society decade by decade. However,
some people are accepting this evolution as a revolution of a new and better lifestyle.

In fact, it and the Bible were the only books common people of England had access to in their homes
during this time, making The Canterbury Tales was the sole form of entertainment. The author,
Geoffrey Chaucer, wrote this text evoking several literary techniques. The most apparent of these are
satire and situational irony. As defined by Webster, satire is the use of humor, exaggeration, or ridicule
to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices . Irony is defined as the expression of one s meaning
by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect . In
the prologue, Chaucer characterizes each persona as much greater than his/her behavior suggests

Essay on Buddhist view on Abortion
It is quite clear from a variety of sources that abortion has been severely disapproved of in the
Buddhist tradition. It is also equally clear that abortion has been tolerated in Buddhist Japan and
accommodated under exceptional circumstances by some modern Buddhists in the U.S. The situation
is similar to that of Roman Catholicism, where abortion, though disapproved of in the strongest terms
by Church authorities, is still practiced by a large number of devoted Catholics and defended by at
least a few.

If genes were entirely what made up a person, than abortion would not be acceptable, but that is not
the case. In very early stages of a pregnancy, Buddhists don t think of the fetus as a person yet.
I am a Japanese Buddhist. Where I m from, Buddhism is a little bit different. A lot of Buddhists
consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence
which is fluid like water and returns to that existence. The fetus is understood to be in a stage of
becoming a discrete thing passing out of the ancient waters. Life that appears in our world or in a
woman s uterus is the formation of a being that was before in the liquid like state of another reality.
Children are liquid and only gradually solidify into humans, this process not being realized until after
birth. Accordingly, the newborn gradually make the transition from the world of the gods and Buddhas
into that of human beings. Most Japanese Buddhists (like myself) believe that you can be cursed by
your baby after the abortion procedure. Because of this, they perform a Mizuko Kuyo after an
abortion. Mizuko means water child, kuyo means memorial service conducted in most cases by
Buddhist priests.Mizuko Kuyos are ritual ceremonies of apology and remembrance for aborted
fetuses, or the stillborn and miscarried.
Buddhists are strong believers in Karma, the law of cause and effect. They are often morally

Mathilde says to her husband, It annoys me not to have a single jewel, not a single stone, nothing to
put on. I shall look like distress. I should almost rather not go at all (69). Instead of just owning her

TOPIC: Mandatory motorcycle helmet laws
PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that all 50 states should enact and enforce a mandatory

i. Less law requirement = less helmet wearing = more deaths

Washington DC and state capitols. They walk the halls of legislatures and knock on doors lobbying
against helmet restrictions.
B. But safety is not the point that motorcycle rights activist groups are arguing: its freedom a. The
government shouldn t tell us what to do
b. It s so un American it s embarrassing
i. Freedom fighters
c. it is my personal choice to make
i. Courts have time and again stuck down this individual argument
1. Public roads
2. No insurance=Govt funded hospital bills and disability benefits
a. IIHS backs that up by reviewing 25 studies and concluding that just over half of riders involved in
accidents had private health insurance
Transition: So, let s take a quick look at the safety issue that the freedom fighters can t refute.
III. The solution is already documented:
A. A report released by the

Relationship Analysis Between Statutes and Case Law Relationship Analysis between Statutes and Case Law Laws against discrimination in employment were developed to provide remedies for victims of this unfortunate form of behavior that exists in America today. The following paper provides insight into lawsuits based on discrimination in the areas of age, religion, and disability and the statutes that provide complainants with the ability to seek relief from discriminatory practices. Employment Law – Age Discrimination Smith v. City of Jackson, Mississippi On March 30, 2005, the Supreme Court decided the case of Smith v. City of Jackson, Mississippi. The case summary is as follows: 30 Police officers and Police dispatchers in Jackson, Mississippi sued the city, challenging a pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1966 the EEOC issued regulations that provided that employers must afford accommodation unless it would cause a serious inconvenience to the conduct of business. In 1967, this regulation was further refined to read undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. These regulations were quickly challenged as was the EEOC authority to issue such regulations. (Foltin Standish, 2004, p. 3). Finally, in 1972 Congress amended Title VII adding a new section 701(j), which reads as follows: The term religion includes all aspects of religious observance and practice, as well as belief, unless an employer demonstrates that he is unable to reasonably accommodate to an employee s or perspective employee s religious observance or practice without undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. • 12. Analysis Of Lies My Teacher Told Me For when textbook authors leave out the warts, the problems, the unfortunate character traits, and the mistaken ideas, they reduce heroes from dramatic men and women to melodramatic stick figures. Their inner struggles disappear and they become goody goody, not just merely good. (Loewen, pg. 29). Lies My Teacher Told Me is a non fiction book written by author, American sociologist, and historian, James W. Loewen. The popular belief is that schools buy the textbook that best fits the curriculum, and by following these textbooks, students are learning to the best of their ability. However, Loewen challenges this belief by providing evidence from eighteen different American history textbooks. He believes that people in history should not be depicted as heroes when they simply are not. To continue, Loewen states that students find history to be so boring since they can not relate to it or the people in it. On page 354, he even concludes his book by stating, Students will start finding history interesting when their teachers and textbook stop lying to them. There are three great taboos in textbook publishing... sex, religion, and social class. (Loewen, pg. 27). This quote from the book demonstrates that textbooks only touch upon what their authors believe students should be learning about, or in other words, the less interesting, same timeworn stories they all mostly have already learned about. History textbooks lie to students by leaving out important details about key events and significant people. Loewen s purpose in writing this book was to prove exactly that to students, and to provide them with the truth. Throughout the entire book, he decides to write about people that students are taught to consider heroes, such as; Hellen Keller, Woodrow Wilson, Christopher Columbus, and numerous more. Loewen succeeded in exposing people American s think of as heroes for whom they actually are, and also prospered in exposing textbooks by providing the truth behind the stories students are all taught. Eleven chapters have shown that textbooks supply irrelevant and even erroneous details, while omitting pivotal questions and facts in their treatments of issues... (Loewen, pg. 301). After the success of Blitzkrieg, the evacuation of Dunkirk and the surrender of France, Britain was by herself. However, before Hitler could contemplate undertaking an invasion he was advised by his generals that Germany had to destroy the Fighter Command of the Royal Air Force in order to gain superiority in the air. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, under the category of technology I could say that one reason why Britain won the battle of Britain was because they had the services of the radar system. Firstly, the tactics employed by both sides would play a key role in itself to deciding the outcome of the Battle of Britain. The battle started on July 10th 1940 when the Luftwaffe attempted to gain control of the Straits of Dover. The tactics employed by the Luftwaffe was to tempt the RAF out for a full scale battle. However, by the end of July, the RAF had lost 150 aircraft while the Luftwaffe had lost 268. These figures illustrate that there was a much greater loss of aircraft experienced by Germany than the British. These large losses of planes from the outset of a battle would have been a significant blow to any army however, this would have damaged German morale as a greater loss of planes was not something they would have contemplated and as they were coming into this battle with such high expectations, this would have been a significant blow to the Luftwaffe and a stern wake up call to their commanders. However, Britain too was suffering, it was the loss of trained pilots that was crippling the RAF, and the real battle had yet to begin. In August, the Luftwaffe changed their tactics and started to attack Fighter Command s airfields, operation rooms and radar stations the idea being that the RAF ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this historiography is to show how recent scholarship on immigration has developed and changed in the last fifteen years. This historiography is divided into three types of studies. Foreshadowing In Back To The Future In the 1985 movie Back to the Future, Robert Zemeckis uses foreshadowing, symbolism, diegetic and non diegetic sound, parallels, irony and morals, as explained through the textbook The Art of Watching Films, to take the viewer on a journey through time. He reinforces the idea that every little action counts. These concepts are intermixed with comedy as we witness the adventures of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and his best friend Doctor Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd) in 1985 and 1955. We meet Marty s parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson) first as adults, then as teenagers, and again as adults. Marty also grows to realize the consequences of his actions. With a concept as difficult as time travel, without the overt use of captions, how can you convey that you re in a different point in time? Zemeckis tackled this issue deftly through his use of dialogue, props, and set design. In the opening period in 1985 he sets the tone of where you are and what defines the present or normal so that when everything changes after Marty steps inside the DeLorean, Zemeckis doesn t need to use a caption announcing the year 1955. • 26. Symptoms and Treatments of Coronary Heart Disease Coronary Heart Disease Coronary Heart Disease affects the circulatory system specifically the heart. Arteries called the coronary arteries surround the heart and provide nutrients and oxygen so the heart can operate. Sometimes cholesterol or fatty deposits build up on the walls of the artery blocking and reducing the amount of blood that can flow through the artery. These obstructions block nutrients and oxygen from getting to the heart s muscles, which can then weaken the heart s ability to pump blood or even cause it to completely fail. Symptoms The symptoms of Coronary Heart disease vary depending on how severe the case is. The main symptoms for the disease are: Chest pain Shortness of breath Nausea Vomiting In serious cases heart attacks or heart failure Treatment Medicines There are a variety of medicines that can be used to treat coronary heart disease and prevent symptoms. These medicines include: Statins Are used to lower cholesterol and control it. Warfarin Are used to prevent the formation of blood clots. ACE inhibitors Are used to lower elevated blood pressure. Anti anginal medications Are used to relieve pressure on the coronary arteries surrounding the heart. Although these medicines are effective they are short term treatments and do not permanently treat coronary heart disease.

Blank verse is written in a format that is usually used in poems such as its use of iambic rhythm, but instead it is used as lines in a play. The poetically written lines are very formal and refined, so speaking in such a way would create an appearance of grace and professionalism that one would usually show with strangers or as in Elizabethan times even friends would be treated with some formalities. Treating someone of high stature or relative importance too informally would be considered rude in the Elizabethan age, as people wanted to be recognized for their earned positions. Thus, Shakespeare s extensive inclusion of blank verse in Macbeth demonstrates the way people normally talked during the Elizabethan time period, as royalty such as King Duncan, and dignified people such as Macbeth and Banquo, speak in blank verse because they are treating each other in a dignified and formal manner that is befitting of royalty and people of high ... Who would look forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper, and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said, Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. A lot of Buddhists consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence which is fluid like water and returns to that existence.
