Guilt Rating
Results Of the 121 participants, three primary areas were measured, whether or not the
participant found the defendant guilty or not, to what degree the participant found the defendant
guilty on a 1 to 7 scale, and the severity of punishment the participant thought the defendant
should receive with 5 choices. This was done by the use of four different surveys, a black
discredited witness, a white discredited witness, a black witness, and a white witness.
Descriptives were done on guilt rating (M = 4.55, SD = 1.539) and punishment rating (M = 2.43,
SD = 1.255). Then the descriptives were broken down even more into four categories for each
dependent variable in regards to the independent variables, credible witness guilt rating (M = 4.88)

The results yielded contradicting evidence to previous research. In previous research,
eyewitness testimony credible or not has shown to influence a juror s decision (Pozzulo
Dempsey, 2009; Whitley, 2001). In this case, we only compared discredited and credible
witness. From each other, they did not show a difference on juror s decision. In addition, black
defendants are convicted more and receiver harsher punishments than white defendants (Demuth
Steffensmeier, 2004). On the other hand, a review by Sommers s (2007) indicated the degree to
which race plays a role still needs to be studied more. Although, his conclusion was that race does
play some type of role in a juror s decision. The current study supports Sommers s review in that
more research does need be conducted because of the contradicting

Sacred Space In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane
The first chapter of Mircea Eliade s book The Sacred and The Profane educates the reader on the
general idea of what a sacred space is, how it affects religious and secular man, and how it came
to be. He describes sacred space in the perspective of a religious man and the difference between it
and profane space. Sacred space is commonly known to appear through the use of hierophany and
theophany; however, Eliade presents several other ways they may come about.
Throughout the text, it is evident that the basis of a sacred space is that there is a break within the
homogenous space that makes a connection between the earth and the heavens; this connection can
be referred to as axis mundi. Eliade portrays the idea that those who follow religion

Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development Essay
When talking about human development, we are referring to the growth of humans in all aspects
throughout their life. In this essay, I will be discussing two types of human development.
Cognitive development, which is to do with the ability to think, remember and reason, and Social
development, which involves relationships and interactions in the world around the individual. I
will focus on how they relate to two significant experiences in my life and how these experiences
were critical to my development as a learner. I will do this by analysing these experiences through
Piaget s theory of cognitive developmentincluding key concepts of equilibration, adaptation and
former operation cognitive stage, and Bronfenbrenner s bioecological systems theory including key
concepts of the microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem.
Piaget s theory of cognitive development is the theory I will be using to analyse my first
significant experience. According to Piaget s theory of cognitive development, during childhood
and adolescence, a child constructs an understanding of their environment by organising
information into schemas, a schema is basically a group of ideas about an object or an experience.
If the individual comes across an inconsistency, or an object or an experience that is unfamiliar,
their cognitive balance is upset and they begin to seek cognitive balance, this process of seeking
balance is called equilibration. They achieve this equilibration through Adaptation, by either

We Must Go Wrong Will Going Wrong
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Even with the knowledge that human error, internal and
external factors can, do, and will affect the outcome of any given task, individuals strive towards
creating environments in which risk levels can be safely and satisfactorily managed by facing those
threats head on. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a
greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound
knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are
capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. This type of learning is especially
beneficial in the aviation industry. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have
forever changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode
of transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral
resources. We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect
the aircraft only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important
than any other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. Wright suggests that it is
not a measure of technology or individual crewmember capabilities, rather the issue at the center of
aviation is the lack of caution and preparation that exists within the cabin. Information gathered

Simplified title
Improvement of stem cell differentiation to pancreatic ОІ cell for transplantation into diabetics.
2)Project summary
Ethical concerns regarding the use of embryo derived embryonic stem cells (ES), and the immune
response elicited by differentiated ES cells, are being circumvented by using induced pluripotential
stem cells (iPSCs) derived from patients somatic cells. These can be differentiated into other cell
types including pancreatic пЃў cells for diabetics. Unfortunately aspects of iPSC DNA regulation of
differentiation impair the production of cells for transplant. Understanding the role of micro RNAs
in iPSC differentiation could improve the therapeutic application of iPSCs.

Between The Lines Internal Conflict
Between the Lines character, Delilah, faces internal and external conflict. In the fairy tale,
Delilah becomes obsessed with her fairy tale book Between the Lines. She begins to shut out the
outside world all for a little childrens fairy tale book. This book makes her life very complicated
and makes her face decisions and challenges almost everyday. She soon comes to realize she does
not want to escape her world, but wants one of the characters in her fairy tale to become part of hers.

Admitting that she talks to a book would make her even more of an outcast at school. She also
faced external conflict with trying to figure out what to do, who to tell, and how she would get
him out of the book. Through tests and ideas, Delilah lost hope until one day she got sucked into
the book. She realized she never wanted to leave her world and became more understanding of
what her mother wanted of her. She saw Oliver s vision and when she returned to her world she
went to find the one seen in Oliver s vision, the author. This author had stopped writing after the
death of her husband and was very cautious while talking to Delilah. She got through to the author
and made the connection that Oliver was based off her son Edgar. He thought it was stupid
because he felt he would never live up to this Oliver character. Edgar plays video games for most
of the day and Delilah got the feeling he might be the one to show Oliver to. He refused to allow
himself to think that Oliver is really alive in the story, but came to see that he really is alive.
After she tried to retype the ending, it failed multiple times. While Delilah was asleep, Edgar
rewrote the story and when she woke up, she realized Edgar and Oliver switched places. Edgar
wanted to escape his world so he could be the hero for once. Her conflicts were mostly resolved

Effects Of Pesticides On The Environment
Over two thirds of the plant (planet I assume?) is covered by it, and humans will die within 3 to
7 days without it. Water is the most precious resource on the planet, but can also be taken for
granted especially in first world countries where it is always available at the faucet. This modern
marvel of having clean water so easily accessible is threatened by another modern invention, the
application of pesticides. While pesticides have narrowed the gap between actual yield and yield
potential in our conventional crops, they are also a source of nontarget poisoning responsible
for fish kills, reproductive failures in birds, and human illnesses (Arias Estevez et al, 2007). In
fact, only about 0.1% of pesticides actually reach their targeted pest (Pimentel, 1995). Most
pesticide ends up in the environment where it is transported or degraded through volatilization,
runoff into surface water and groundwater, or taken up by nontarget organisms (van der Werf,
1996). The movement of pesticides into groundwater poses a grave threat to the health of our
communities. According to a 1999 USGS survey, around 50% of water samples collected from
wells contained at least one pesticide (Arias Estevez et al, 2007). In Ohio, a well testing program
started by the Water Quality Laboratory of Heidelberg College found that wells were
contaminated most frequently by atrazine and alachlor, albeit at very low levels and in less than
5% of wells (Baker, 1990). There is a need to identify pesticide

Emily Dickinson And Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Poems are like snowflakes. While no two are the same, they all have common structures and
themes. One prevalent theme in poetry is that of death, which is present in both Because I Could
Not Stop for Death by Emily Dickinson and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert
Frost. Dickinson perceives death as a gentleman, while Frost perceives death as loneliness, which
provides insight on how the time periods of the poems, the genders of the authors, and the authors
personal experiences influence literature. A major factor of Emily Dickinsons style of poetryis the
time period in which she lived. Emily Dickinson was alive from 1830 to 1886 (Mackowiak and
Batten, 1159), during which the Second Great Awakening, Romanticism, and the United States
Civil War took place. When Dickinson was a teenager, the Second Great Awakening took hold,
encouraging people to take hold of their religion and practice once more. Thomas Ford discusses
this in his book Heaven Beguiles the Tired: Death in the Poetry of Emily Dickinson, reviewed by
Jack Capps. Capps points out that Ford repeatedly asserts that poetry, for Emily Dickinson, was
but a substitute for the religious conversion that would have allayed her fears of death and
obviated her poetic utterance (227). Dickinson did not blindly accept what religion told her to
believe about death. Christianity depicts the idea of dying in a peaceful way, then spending the rest
of eternity in a mystical place. Instead, Emily Dickinson wanted

that Gatsby believes in hope for the future, that something good will eventually come. With

In the novel, Gatsby focuses his only dream on one thing; having Daisy back into his life again.

American dream will be revived. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly

Correspondingly, to gain the support of the German s, Hitler told the citizens what they wanted
to hear. In 1929, the stock market crash not only affected the United States, but many European
countries, including Germany. The German people were quickly attracted to Hitler s promise of
news jobs, a strong economy, and military power. WIth the hardships that the Great Depression
brought to the society, the people were desperate for any and all relief that could get them back
on their feet. Using similar leading tactics, both Jack and Hitler developed methods of persuasion
to win over the groups they were trying to obtain. Both leaders were able to gain the support of
many through persuasion and promises, but after they gained that power, they used it as a way to
control their followers. The two were able to successfully do this because of the amount of faith
people had in them. Hitler once said, What luck for rulers that men do not think. In this sentence
explains in simple word, that when followers put huge amounts of trust in their leaders to make the
correct choices, they don t think twice about the actions that their leaders take part in. In

The Age Discrimination And Employment Act Of 967 ( Adea )...
Employees over the age of 40 are protected under law from discrimination under the Age
Discrimination and Employment Act of 967 (ADEA). However, that does not change the
beliefs of some organizations that employees over the age of 40 are not as beneficial or
productive as those younger than the age of 40. Communication skills are important to any
organization and employees are expected to be professional and be able to express their ideas
and opinions in that manner. Good communication skills are not limited to one area, to be an
effective communicator you must be a good listener, be able to read body language as well as
express your ideas verbally and in written form. Employees older the age of 40, have not grown
up with the technology that we have today and have relied more on hand written, typed, face to
face and verbal communication in a way much different than today. Because staff members over
the age of 40 have spent their careers in a more formal work environment, the communication
that they prefer tends to be more formal as well. Social media a fairly new way of
communication that has grown significantly over the past decade and while can be a very
beneficial way of communicating, it can also affect an employee negatively. The tendency to post a
status about a bad day or something that may have not been for public release could harm the
company or the employee s relationship with coworkers. Generations before the millennials have

Performance Analysis of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine An analysis of a

example of three types of classical music. Classical music features numerous instruments played by
skilled experts. The instruments used can belong to a range of instrumental groups, including:
brass, string, percussion, and woodwind. As the name implies, the instrumental groups used by this

Driving Under The Influence Of Impairing And Driving
CJM 309 paper 5 Kevin
Driving under the influence of alcohol brings fatalities. The National Highway, traffic, and Safety
administration have the mandate of carrying out research geared towards achieving safety in the
American highways. According to the National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013),
alcoholic impairment whilst driving depends on the driver s blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), a BAC higher or equal to.08
g/dl renders the driver impaired and thus should not operate any vehicle or any machinery in this
state. Therefore, deaths arising out of scenarios involving an alcohol impaired driver brings forth
alcoholic impaired fatalities. According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013),
such fatalities does not occur solely on the notion that alcohol impairment caused it, but also that a
driver harboring a BAC of 0.8 or higher was involved in the accident. In 2013, NHTSA determined
that alcohol impairment resulted to about 10,070 deaths. This number amounted to about 30
percent of the total number of traffic related deaths in that year. The numbers above indicate that
each fatality took place after every 52 minutes throughout the course of the year 2013. Alcohol ...

her, to outstandingly fulfilling those standards set, Adrienne Rich was able to exceed as not only a
feminist writer but as an activist for women. In her poem Aunt Jennifer s Tigers, and her book
Snapshots of a Daughter In Law, Rich exposes the phases women encounter throughout their life.
Subsequently, from the early influence her parents had on her, to her involvement in other areas,
Rich used her voice highly and became known as one of the most provocative voices throughout
women s movements. At a very young age Rich was brought up by her parents to exceedingly high
standards. With both her parents actively encouraging her to pursue writing her own poetry. Rich
held to excel the standards set by her overtly demanding father. Rich wanted nothing more but
approval from him and as soon as she began to write poetry, her father saw the potential she had in
her.
Her father at the young age that he saw her write then went on to supply her with works from great
writers such as Henrik Ibsen, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and poets like Christina Rossetti.
Her father encouraged her to read and write from a very young age and home tutored her. She

The Issue of Nursing Shortage in the United States
Nursing Shortages
Introduction
The shortage of nurses in the United States has been discussed often and has been fully reported
in the media over the past several decades. There have been reports of shortages so critical that
they actually have become ...a national security concern (Nelson, 2002). Moreover, the reasons for
the shortages and potential solutions for this crisis are extremely well covered in the scholarly
literature. In this paper, an article in the peer reviewed Health Marketing Quarterly points to how
the nursing shortage can be addressed using marketing strategies. In addition, other scholarly
articles will be reviewed in order to address the challenges and consequences that could result if this
crisis is not addressed immediately.
Marketing Nursing as a Profession
An article in the Health Marketing Quarterly written by Mark Somers, Linda Finch, and Dee
Birnbaum (university instructors in schools of management, nursing and business fields in the
U.S.) asserts that the nursing shortages of highly trained nurses and of nursing faculty is close to
a level that could be termed a crisis (Somers, et al, 2010). The expected gap between supply and
demand will expand to more than a million nurses by 2020, Somers explains, which is twice the
shortfall had had been projected just two years prior to this article s publication (292).
Why the dramatic shortfall in nurses? There are at least ten influencing factors associated with this
looming crisis, and

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes
masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our
society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and
ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars,
academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we
choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive
author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on
women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender
ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance
stereotypes of men and women and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and
appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these
distinctions today. In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard
made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the
genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the
Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore,
it is obvious that masculinity can be presented through a combination of

The Fall Of Satan Research Paper
In the world there are many different things that happen and many different ways people think
about it. In The Falling of Satan there are many different ways people describe it but only people
who were really there know how it went. The battle between Satan and God illustrated in John
Milton s The Fall of Satan during the Renaissance era is a religious fight that started when Satan
tried to get more power than God and eventually brought evil to the world in order to show the
people the consequences of sin.
In the story Satan wanted to rule above all else in Heaven, which sparked a war. Satan tried to be

Introduction
The exploration of Mars terrain is offering mankind even more incite into how our solar system
was developed in the past. There are still many sites that have yet to be explored. The region of
Mawrth Vallis is one of the oldest valleys on Mars. It was formed from cataclysmic floods and
contains large amounts of phyllosilicate. These are clay like minerals that only form in the
presence of water. These minerals can easily preserve microscopic life.
I am going to design a rover Zelus for the purpose of exploring this terrain. The rover is named
after the Greek God who is the personification of the term zeal. It inspired by the meaning of having
intense passion and enthusiasm for any endeavor. The rover will collect these minerals, explore
different aspects of the terrain, and discover any other potential information. The data gathered will
in turn help determine if this environment was sustainable for life in the past.

heat from the solar panels and heat molten salts stored in the chamber. Next, it will heat the
stored carbon dioxide from the air to a physical state between a gas and liquid. This will in turn
give energy to the CO2 turbine to operate the rover and its instruments. Finally, it is cooled and

The Internal Topology Of The Park Bench
Topology:
Internal Topology:
The internal topology within this performance relies heavily on the fact that the stage is rounded
and there is a single park bench (split in half and facing opposite ways) in the centre of it. The
cyclical view of life is not only symbolically represented through the stage to the audience but also
by the nature of the stage in regards to the actors. The two characters as at the opposite end of a
shared cycle is also represented through the utilisation and manipulation of the park bench. Marion
s book is able to represent the shift that is to occur as Marion exits the cycle of her life and the Girl
is to enter. Thus, the internal topology as per the spacing of elements on the stage is instrumental in
portraying the intended meaning for the greatest audience impact.
One of the greatest challenges regarding the internal topology of this play is the notion of having
an eighty year old woman meet a sixteen year old version of herself as the preconceived notion of
space and time shifts. This is dealt with across the technical disciplines through the unity in
developing their individual roles and the contrasting display of their relationship. The notion of
such meeting can be perceived as quite strange to an audience when presented as reality however it
is through the manipulation of their roles and their relationship, achieved by the various technical
disciplines, that such occurrence is able to be achieved. This meeting, through the roles of the

The difference between now and the early 1900 is massive. Back in the early 1900 human slavery

For example, all human slaves had the rights of life, security and liberty, slaves had few other
types of rights, including political rights which is the protection of the law and equality before

Literary Criticism In Poetry
Formalist criticism is the literary theory that takes a look into works of literature for the message
and meaning, but gives a special focus on the form and structure, as well as the literary devices it
utilizes. This form of criticism is has a very straightforward approach, breaking down the text into
different component parts. Imagery, language, point of view, structure, motivation are all elements
this group examines when reading the text. The thing that differs this approach from other literary
schools of criticism, is its focus on the internal components, instead of the outside influences. The
critic must pay no attention the authors intent and read the text with a neutral or unemotionally.
The reader is interesting in determining who the protagonist is, the protagonist s conflicts, the
climax, setting, and theme of the literary works. This essay will discuss three poems Wild Iris ,
Lady Lazarus , and Aunt Jennifer s Tigers and apply the Formalist literary criticism towards each
of the poem s text. Wild Iris is a poem by Louise GlГјck, that doesn t display its meaning clearly
and makes the reader work to find answers and understand the message of the poem. The part I
noticed first was that the protagonist and speaker of the poem was the flower itself. As said in an
article written by The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, personification is, a type of metaphor
and a common literary tool. It is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn t

Inspectors may inspect businesses and obtain undertakings from employers to comply with their
duties in terms of the Act. Failing that, they may issue compliance orders, to which or against
which an employer may object or appeal. Any party assessing compliance with the Act has
discretion to consider a variety of factors amounting to whether the employer has made reasonable
attempts, in his/her particular circumstances, to comply. The Director General may conduct a
review of whether an employer has complied with the Act and followed it with recommendations
on methods of compliance. If that fails, the Director General may refer the matter to the Labour
Court, which is the ultimate Court which may enforce the provisions of the Act. Chapter II of the
Act came into operation during 1998. Since the passing of the Act, the President, in terms of
Section 65, determined that Chapter III and Sections 35 to 46, 58 and 65, and Schedules 1 and 4

The Turn Of The Screw By Henry James
Michael Walker Mr. Murray Intro to Fiction March 25, 2015 Turn of the Screw There are
numerous approaches to view The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James. From being in class
talking about the book I seen that there was distinctive comprehension of the book. The Turn of
the Screw is a typical representation of the contention in the middle of great and fiendishness. I
will translate the phantoms of Peter Quint and Miss Jessel as insidious powers. I perceive that
the phantom just seem to the tutor in light of the fact that malice slinks in nuance before it
strikes. It is the obligation of the tutor to identify and avert insidious. She must shield the kids
from the horrendous phantoms. The tutor portrays Miles and Flora as wonderful little heavenly
attendants whose just blame is their tenderness (James, 18 19). I see the youngsters excellence as
an image of the profound flawlessness of which man is competent. A piece of the book discloses
the phantoms endeavors to achieve the kids by clarifying that malice strengths will dependably
attempt to overcome and have the human soul. To draw from the depictions of Miles and Flora to
bolster his hypotheses. He brings up that the two kids are portrayed as having a saintly stunner and
a positive scent of immaculateness (James 9, 13). The tutor depicts them as though they are
flawless and wonderful inside and out. This rehashed vision of excellence, brilliance, and
blamelessness parallels the picture of Eden. The house at

Abstract: The content and the organization of work represent dimensions which do not only
involve mobilizing competencies but are also dimensions in which competencies are developed. In
an organization people create, accumulate or transfer knowledge, ideas, values, attitudes, feelings or

If we refer to organizations and learning we must also mention what Reg Revans called Active
Learning, a method used for personal training, training specialists and organizational learning.
Grouped in small teams (named active learning groups) people approach important and learn from
achievements in order to change things. Active learning includes four elements: the person itself,
the active learning group, the respective problems and the measures taken in order to solve the
problems which allow learning. The set of values that organizations work with and which
constitutes the subject of learning is a complex one and has determined theoreticians to establish
conceptual hierarchies of knowledge. The model of the five levels 15 that we present below reflects
the progressive accumulation of the value of the data as they turn into competencies (see figure 1).
Therefore, it is obvious that the data are a priori than isolated elements. When elements are placed
into context and combined within a structure, the information acquires higher values. The
information acquires new meanings by interpretations and assimilations, thus turning into
knowledge. On this level, information is placed inside a mental structure and can be consciously
used, for

not convinced that statin intolerance was the culprit behind Mr. M s woes. Bits and pieces of
information surfaced during his visits eventually prompting my decision to request a thyroid

This sense of death is portrayed through the transitioning through the process of death, to the cords

Infectious Mononucleosis is a viral infection characterized by swelling of the lymph glands.
Mononucleosis is more commonly referred to as mono or kissing disease because it is transferred

name stems from the characteristics of having swollen glands and high fever. Glandular fever was

Thomas Hobbes And Locke s Leviathan
Several writers in 17th century England published incredibly influential works on political
philosophy. These pieces detailed the nature of humans and consequently explained the best method
of governing them. Published in 1651, Thomas Hobbes s controversial Leviathan details a rather
dystopian view of humanity s natural state and advocates for an absolutist government. Nearly 40
years later, John Lockepublished The Second Treatise of Government, detailing his own views,
many of which sharply contrast with those of Hobbes. Despite both Hobbes and Locke arguing
that all men are equal in the state of nature, Hobbes s belief that this equality causes constant
warfare leads him to recommend a repressive civil state in which a sovereign acts as... Show more

In Locke s list of natural rights, life and health are fairly straightforward. Everyone has a right to
their own life and well being. The right of liberty is each individual s right to do as they please as
long as it doesn t infringe upon the rights of their neighbors. Locke deduces the right to property in
the following way. Each person obviously has a right to their own body, as well as all the labor
they do with their body. Therefore, when that individual adds their labor to some foreign object,
that object becomes their property because they mixed their labor with it. However, there are
some limits to this right. One can only possess what they can use without spoilage. One can only
claim property if the labor that was mixed with the object is their own. This is linked to the idea
of natural law. It breaks natural law to infringe on one s neighbors rights; this includes the right to
property. If one claims someone else s property as their own, meaning the labor in the object was
not theirs, then that person is breaking natural law. The final limitation of property is that one must
leave enough for their neighbors when claiming property. This goes back to Locke s ideas about
human reason. Locke believes that human reason dictates that preserving the well being of
mankind is second only to self preservation. This means that after an individual in nature secures
their own well being, they will begin to help their neighbors. In terms of

Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford Essay
Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford
Hartford is the home to the highest percentage (27%) of Puerto Ricans in the country (Cruz, 5).
Nonetheless, Puerto Ricans still face myriad challenges with respect to the integration and
acceptance of their culture in Hartford. Although the PR community is only two generations old,
Puerto Ricans have managed to both organize and mobilize in this relatively short time (Cruz, 2).
Puerto Ricans have focused closely on their ethnic identity because they viewed their incorporation
into the political sphere occurring only by means of asserting their difference (Cruz, 10). They have
made their mark on politics in Hartford through demographic growth, development of leadership in
the community, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I relate each component with a historical event in Puerto Rican politics and also consider how
through this historic mobilization Puerto Ricans have gained entitlement to more power, equality,
representation, consciousness from other ethnic groups, and to some degree, social change. I focus
on the Puerto Ricans migration to Connecticut, their development of ethnic awareness and power
awareness, their realization of common interests, their competing ethnic projects, and the brokered
representation they have endured as detailed in Jose Cruz s book, Identity and Power: Puerto Rican
Politics and the Challenge of Ethnicity. Finally, I examine an important point that Cruz only
touched upon briefly, which is the idea of cultural citizenship in the Puerto Rican community. This
added point helps us to fully understand the role identity politics played in Puerto Ricans lives.
Puerto Ricans first entered the realm of identity politics with their migration to Hartford, beginning
in the 1950s. Their motivation was primarily economic; that is, Hartford had an abundance of job
opportunities in restaurants, stores, factories, and farms in comparison to New York City and
Puerto Rico (Cruz, 37). Puerto Ricans were now working and living alongside many other citizens
of different ethnicities and were treated much like other

Causes Of Tyranny
Henry VIII, Joseph Stalin, Ivan IV, Adolf Hitler, Kim Jong II, and more are all tyrants who inflicted
tyranny on their people. Throughout history many tyrants have oppressed their citizens with unfair
and harsh treatment and have gotten away with it. Tyranny is known as a cruel, unreasonable, or
arbitrary use of power or control inflicted by an oppressive government or ruler. Even though this
sadistic behavior continues today, it doesn t in the United Statesof America. In 1775 to 1783, the
American Revolutionary War, also known as the U.S. War of Independence, took place. This was
a conflict that arose form growing tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North
American colonies and the tyrannical British Crown. In response to the callous treatment, a group
of colonial delegates (including George Washington of Virginia, John and Samuel Adams or
Massachusetts, Patrick Henry of Virginia, and john jay of New York) met in Philadelphia in
September 1774 to give voice to their grievances against the British Crown, which is formally
known as the First Continental Congress. By June 1776, with the Revolutionary War in full swing,
a growing majority of the colonists had come to favor independence from Britain resulting in the
continental Congress drafting the Declaration of Independence on July 4. The thirteen colonies
officially declared their independence from the tyrant ruler known as King George III of Britain.
Eleven years later, in the summer of 1787, fifty five

The Human Genome Project ( Hgp )
In 2000, the $3 billion dollar project The Human Genome Project (HGP) came to completion.
Geneticists can now provide a patient with a comprehensive map of their DNA sequence.
Obtaining such information can tell a patient if they have the gene variant associated with many
different genetically linked diseases such as Alzheimer s, diabetes, heart conditions or even
cancer. This medical revolution can indicate what drugs to take, at what dosage and what lifestyle
choices can be made in order to prevent the disease or at the least, control the symptoms at the
earliest stages as possible. However, this new diagnostic tool has raised some ethical issues: Will
your privacy be protected? Will insurance companies pressure you into getting your... Show more

However, a percentage of the Human Genome Project budget was devoted to the Ethical, Legal, and
Social Implications (ELSI) research. This program was founded to identify and address issues
raised by genomic research, including conflicts of interest affecting all the concerned parties. These
issues also include worries about insurers using genetic information to impose high premiums and
deny coverage or companies refusing employment opportunities. Yet with new technology comes
new laws; for example, in the United States, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was
passed on May 21st 2008[1]. As the name implies, this law prohibits employers and health insurance
companies from using genetic information, protecting citizens from discrimination based on their
predisposition to developing a genetic disorder. If DNA sequencing were to become standard
medical procedure, such laws will have to be enacted in order to protect the patient s rights.
In the process of developing the Human Genome Project, multiple gene expression based cancer
markers were identified. Furthermore, geneticists began to note that cancer pathologies are most
often not restricted to one single genomic mutation. On the contrary, a large number of different
alterations in a patient s DNA come together and cause the malignant transformation. The
combination of mutations, structural variations and

John Hancock Is The Founding Father
Out of all the important contributors to the founding of the United States of America, John
Hancock is the Founding Father I chose to research and learn the most about. I feel as though all
of the other Founding Fathers are well known and everyone knows a little about each one. John
Hancock, for me personally, I knew little to nothing about and I wanted to learn more. I like to
learn a lot about subjects that I know nothing about. I also picked John Hancock because of his
signature. On every document he signed, his name would be the the most prominent signature. His
signature is one of the most well known and I wanted to absorb all of the details about this
particular individual behind the signature.
John Hancock, who was born in Braintree, Massachusetts on January 23, 1737 grew up with his
mother, father, and two siblings. At a very early age, Hancock s father passed away and his mother
was too poor to maintain the household, so John was raised by his aunt and uncle. John s uncle,
Thomas Hancock, was a wealthy merchant and he owned a very sophisticated mansion in Boston.
After graduating in 1750, John continued his education at Harvard University. In 1754, he earned
his degree and then went on to work for his uncle at his real estate and shipping business. Soon
after, Thomas Hancock passed away and John took over the family business and managed to make
it very successful and became the richest man in Boston. Despite his fame and fortune, John was a

I Interviewed My Father, Reynaldo Martinez
I interviewed my father, Reynaldo Martinez, who is a 53 year old Salvadoran immigrant and has
lived in the United States for 33 years. I posed the topic question of how the treatment of Latinos
and Hispanics have changed over his time in the United States, and if it has gotten worse or better.
His overall view was that the current political and social environment can sometimes be harsh right
now to Latinos, and in his opinion discriminationtowards them has gotten worse. He said, I think
there s an underlying resentment about the direction the country is going. The resentment being
that some seem to blame Latinos and immigrants are contributing to the decline of the country. He
thinks major developments and national world events have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After being in the states for ten years, he applied for citizenship. He said he could have at seven
years, but he did not feel he had a big rush to do that. I asked if he would have felt a bigger rush
to apply for citizenship now if he came later than then because of the way people see immigrants
now, and he said more than likely he would have. He was not illegal though. He was a legal
resident that could do much of what a citizen could, but he could not vote. When he and his
brothers came from El Salvador, they lived in Brooklyn, New York for a while. It was a polish
community; a neighborhood of immigrants. He did not face any problems there. Then they moved
to Manhattan into a predominately black and Puerto Rican community. The issues he was
concerned with was security and safety issues. Since he lived in minorities neighborhoods he did
not face much discrimination. In 1993, my father, mother, and one year old sister moved to North
Carolina. There he faced some more prominent discrimination. My father was making phone calls
to check for listings for apartments that were for rent in Raleigh. A lady answered and he told her
his name. With his name and accent she could probably tell he was Latino. She had told him that
they prefer not to rent to Latinos, which was disheartening to hear. I asked him if he thought that
could still occur today. He replied, I hope not, but

Changes In The Upper Palaeolithic Periods
Introduction The Upper Palaeolithic was an explosion of cultural and behavioural changes that
were not present in the lower and middle Palaeolithic periods. These are things such as the
creation of art and figurines and the development of technology in tools that were used. These
changes show how communities and individuals were progressing into what we now consider
modern human behaviours... Art We know that the art that was being created in Europe during the
Upper Palaeolithic we created by the Cro Magnons for over 25,000 years (Springer and Andrews
2011). The art that is present in the Upper Palaeolithic is categorised using two systems, parietal
(paintings and engravings found on cave walls) and mobiliary (figurines and other small portable...

This change in behaviour could imply how to populations of the Upper Palaeolithic were
developing emotions and feelings for the deceased and how they saw life and death in their
populations (Renfrew and Bahn 2016; Formicola 2007). While the act of burying the deceased
individuals is interesting, the effort that they took enhancing their appearance by placing beads,
the use of red ochre and other elaborate mortuary practices shows the changes that were
happening to the development of culture in these communities (Dobrovolskaya et al. 2011;
Renfrew and Bahn 2016). There is evidence that the upper Palaeolithic communities could have
has a social structure within these communities, as with more burial discoveries, there is a clear
showing that some individuals had been buried with more grave goods and more time was taken
when preparing the burial (Springer and Andrews 2011). The Sunghir burial in Russia contains
the skeletal remains of an adult male and double burial of a boy and girl. Both burials contained
ivory beads that were attached to clothes they were wearing when buried; there were nearly 3000
ivory beads found in the adult male burial, the double child burials contained over 10,000 beads
together which would have taken many hours to create (Springer and Andrews 2011). The time
taken to create these grave goods could suggest they were important people within their
communities such as offspring of a chief (Springer and Andrews

  • 2. Guilt Rating Results Of the 121 participants, three primary areas were measured, whether or not the participant found the defendant guilty or not, to what degree the participant found the defendant guilty on a 1 to 7 scale, and the severity of punishment the participant thought the defendant should receive with 5 choices. This was done by the use of four different surveys, a black discredited witness, a white discredited witness, a black witness, and a white witness. Descriptives were done on guilt rating (M = 4.55, SD = 1.539) and punishment rating (M = 2.43, SD = 1.255). Then the descriptives were broken down even more into four categories for each dependent variable in regards to the independent variables, credible witness guilt rating (M = 4.88) and... In previous research, eyewitness testimony credible or not has shown to influence a juror s decision (Pozzulo Dempsey, 2009; Whitley, 2001). In this case, we only compared discredited and credible witness. From each other, they did not show a difference on juror s decision. In addition, black defendants are convicted more and receiver harsher punishments than white defendants (Demuth Steffensmeier, 2004). On the other hand, a review by Sommers s (2007) indicated the degree to which race plays a role still needs to be studied more. Although, his conclusion was that race does play some type of role in a juror s decision. The current study supports Sommers s review in that more research does need be conducted because of the contradicting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sacred Space In Mircea Eliade s The Sacred And The Profane The first chapter of Mircea Eliade s book The Sacred and The Profane educates the reader on the general idea of what a sacred space is, how it affects religious and secular man, and how it came to be. He describes sacred space in the perspective of a religious man and the difference between it and profane space. Sacred space is commonly known to appear through the use of hierophany and theophany; however, Eliade presents several other ways they may come about. Throughout the text, it is evident that the basis of a sacred space is that there is a break within the homogenous space that makes a connection between the earth and the heavens; this connection can be referred to as axis mundi. • 5. Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development Essay When talking about human development, we are referring to the growth of humans in all aspects throughout their life. In this essay, I will be discussing two types of human development. Cognitive development, which is to do with the ability to think, remember and reason, and Social development, which involves relationships and interactions in the world around the individual. I will focus on how they relate to two significant experiences in my life and how these experiences were critical to my development as a learner. I will do this by analysing these experiences through Piaget s theory of cognitive developmentincluding key concepts of equilibration, adaptation and former operation cognitive stage, and Bronfenbrenner s bioecological systems theory including key concepts of the microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem. Piaget s theory of cognitive development is the theory I will be using to analyse my first significant experience. According to Piaget s theory of cognitive development, during childhood and adolescence, a child constructs an understanding of their environment by organising information into schemas, a schema is basically a group of ideas about an object or an experience. If the individual comes across an inconsistency, or an object or an experience that is unfamiliar, their cognitive balance is upset and they begin to seek cognitive balance, this process of seeking balance is called equilibration. They achieve this equilibration through Adaptation, by either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. We Must Go Wrong Will Going Wrong Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Even with the knowledge that human error, internal and external factors can, do, and will affect the outcome of any given task, individuals strive towards creating environments in which risk levels can be safely and satisfactorily managed by facing those threats head on. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. This type of learning is especially beneficial in the aviation industry. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have forever changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode of transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral resources. We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect the aircraft only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important than any other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. Wright suggests that it is not a measure of technology or individual crewmember capabilities, rather the issue at the center of aviation is the lack of caution and preparation that exists within the cabin. • 9. Effects Of Pesticides On The Environment Over two thirds of the plant (planet I assume?) is covered by it, and humans will die within 3 to 7 days without it. Water is the most precious resource on the planet, but can also be taken for granted especially in first world countries where it is always available at the faucet. This modern marvel of having clean water so easily accessible is threatened by another modern invention, the application of pesticides. While pesticides have narrowed the gap between actual yield and yield potential in our conventional crops, they are also a source of nontarget poisoning responsible for fish kills, reproductive failures in birds, and human illnesses (Arias Estevez et al, 2007). In fact, only about 0.1% of pesticides actually reach their targeted pest (Pimentel, 1995). Most pesticide ends up in the environment where it is transported or degraded through volatilization, runoff into surface water and groundwater, or taken up by nontarget organisms (van der Werf, 1996). The movement of pesticides into groundwater poses a grave threat to the health of our communities. According to a 1999 USGS survey, around 50% of water samples collected from wells contained at least one pesticide (Arias Estevez et al, 2007). In Ohio, a well testing program started by the Water Quality Laboratory of Heidelberg College found that wells were contaminated most frequently by atrazine and alachlor, albeit at very low levels and in less than 5% of wells (Baker, 1990). • 10. Emily Dickinson And Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening Poems are like snowflakes. While no two are the same, they all have common structures and themes. One prevalent theme in poetry is that of death, which is present in both Because I Could Not Stop for Death by Emily Dickinson and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. Dickinson perceives death as a gentleman, while Frost perceives death as loneliness, which provides insight on how the time periods of the poems, the genders of the authors, and the authors personal experiences influence literature. A major factor of Emily Dickinsons style of poetryis the time period in which she lived. Emily Dickinson was alive from 1830 to 1886 (Mackowiak and Batten, 1159), during which the Second Great Awakening, Romanticism, and the United States Civil War took place. When Dickinson was a teenager, the Second Great Awakening took hold, encouraging people to take hold of their religion and practice once more. Thomas Ford discusses this in his book Heaven Beguiles the Tired: Death in the Poetry of Emily Dickinson, reviewed by Jack Capps. Capps points out that Ford repeatedly asserts that poetry, for Emily Dickinson, was but a substitute for the religious conversion that would have allayed her fears of death and obviated her poetic utterance (227). Dickinson did not blindly accept what religion told her to believe about death. Christianity depicts the idea of dying in a peaceful way, then spending the rest of eternity in a mystical place. Instead, Emily Dickinson wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employees over the age of 40 are protected under law from discrimination under the Age Discrimination and Employment Act of 967 (ADEA). However, that does not change the beliefs of some organizations that employees over the age of 40 are not as beneficial or productive as those younger than the age of 40. Communication skills are important to any organization and employees are expected to be professional and be able to express their ideas and opinions in that manner. Good communication skills are not limited to one area, to be an effective communicator you must be a good listener, be able to read body language as well as express your ideas verbally and in written form. Employees older the age of 40, have not grown up with the technology that we have today and have relied more on hand written, typed, face to face and verbal communication in a way much different than today. Because staff members over the age of 40 have spent their careers in a more formal work environment, the communication that they prefer tends to be more formal as well. The National Highway, traffic, and Safety administration have the mandate of carrying out research geared towards achieving safety in the American highways. According to the National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), alcoholic impairment whilst driving depends on the driver s blood alcohol concentration (BAC). According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), a BAC higher or equal to.08 g/dl renders the driver impaired and thus should not operate any vehicle or any machinery in this state. Therefore, deaths arising out of scenarios involving an alcohol impaired driver brings forth alcoholic impaired fatalities. According to National Highway, traffic Safety Administration (2013), such fatalities does not occur solely on the notion that alcohol impairment caused it, but also that a driver harboring a BAC of 0.8 or higher was involved in the accident. In 2013, NHTSA determined that alcohol impairment resulted to about 10,070 deaths. This number amounted to about 30 percent of the total number of traffic related deaths in that year. This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars, academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing. • 28. The Internal Topology Of The Park Bench Topology: Internal Topology: The internal topology within this performance relies heavily on the fact that the stage is rounded and there is a single park bench (split in half and facing opposite ways) in the centre of it. The cyclical view of life is not only symbolically represented through the stage to the audience but also by the nature of the stage in regards to the actors. The two characters as at the opposite end of a shared cycle is also represented through the utilisation and manipulation of the park bench. Marion s book is able to represent the shift that is to occur as Marion exits the cycle of her life and the Girl is to enter. Thus, the internal topology as per the spacing of elements on the stage is instrumental in portraying the intended meaning for the greatest audience impact. One of the greatest challenges regarding the internal topology of this play is the notion of having an eighty year old woman meet a sixteen year old version of herself as the preconceived notion of space and time shifts. This is dealt with across the technical disciplines through the unity in developing their individual roles and the contrasting display of their relationship. The notion of such meeting can be perceived as quite strange to an audience when presented as reality however it is through the manipulation of their roles and their relationship, achieved by the various technical disciplines, that such occurrence is able to be achieved. Literary Criticism In Poetry Formalist criticism is the literary theory that takes a look into works of literature for the message and meaning, but gives a special focus on the form and structure, as well as the literary devices it utilizes. This form of criticism is has a very straightforward approach, breaking down the text into different component parts. Imagery, language, point of view, structure, motivation are all elements this group examines when reading the text. The thing that differs this approach from other literary schools of criticism, is its focus on the internal components, instead of the outside influences. The critic must pay no attention the authors intent and read the text with a neutral or unemotionally. The reader is interesting in determining who the protagonist is, the protagonist s conflicts, the climax, setting, and theme of the literary works. • 47. Thomas Hobbes And Locke s Leviathan Several writers in 17th century England published incredibly influential works on political philosophy. These pieces detailed the nature of humans and consequently explained the best method of governing them. Published in 1651, Thomas Hobbes s controversial Leviathan details a rather dystopian view of humanity s natural state and advocates for an absolutist government. Nearly 40 years later, John Lockepublished The Second Treatise of Government, detailing his own views, many of which sharply contrast with those of Hobbes. Despite both Hobbes and Locke arguing that all men are equal in the state of nature, Hobbes s belief that this equality causes constant warfare leads him to recommend a repressive civil state in which a sovereign acts as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Locke s list of natural rights, life and health are fairly straightforward. Everyone has a right to their own life and well being. The right of liberty is each individual s right to do as they please as long as it doesn t infringe upon the rights of their neighbors. Locke deduces the right to property in the following way. Each person obviously has a right to their own body, as well as all the labor they do with their body. Therefore, when that individual adds their labor to some foreign object, that object becomes their property because they mixed their labor with it. However, there are some limits to this right. One can only possess what they can use without spoilage. One can only claim property if the labor that was mixed with the object is their own. This is linked to the idea of natural law. It breaks natural law to infringe on one s neighbors rights; this includes the right to property. If one claims someone else s property as their own, meaning the labor in the object was not theirs, then that person is breaking natural law. The final limitation of property is that one must leave enough for their neighbors when claiming property. This goes back to Locke s ideas about human reason. Locke believes that human reason dictates that preserving the well being of mankind is second only to self preservation. This means that after an individual in nature secures their own well being, they will begin to help their neighbors. In terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford Essay Puerto Rican Experience in Hartford Hartford is the home to the highest percentage (27%) of Puerto Ricans in the country (Cruz, 5). Nonetheless, Puerto Ricans still face myriad challenges with respect to the integration and acceptance of their culture in Hartford. Although the PR community is only two generations old, Puerto Ricans have managed to both organize and mobilize in this relatively short time (Cruz, 2). Puerto Ricans have focused closely on their ethnic identity because they viewed their incorporation into the political sphere occurring only by means of asserting their difference (Cruz, 10). They have made their mark on politics in Hartford through demographic growth, development of leadership in the community, and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I relate each component with a historical event in Puerto Rican politics and also consider how through this historic mobilization Puerto Ricans have gained entitlement to more power, equality, representation, consciousness from other ethnic groups, and to some degree, social change. I focus on the Puerto Ricans migration to Connecticut, their development of ethnic awareness and power awareness, their realization of common interests, their competing ethnic projects, and the brokered representation they have endured as detailed in Jose Cruz s book, Identity and Power: Puerto Rican Politics and the Challenge of Ethnicity. Finally, I examine an important point that Cruz only touched upon briefly, which is the idea of cultural citizenship in the Puerto Rican community. This added point helps us to fully understand the role identity politics played in Puerto Ricans lives. Puerto Ricans first entered the realm of identity politics with their migration to Hartford, beginning in the 1950s. Their motivation was primarily economic; that is, Hartford had an abundance of job opportunities in restaurants, stores, factories, and farms in comparison to New York City and Puerto Rico (Cruz, 37). Puerto Ricans were now working and living alongside many other citizens of different ethnicities and were treated much like other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Causes Of Tyranny Henry VIII, Joseph Stalin, Ivan IV, Adolf Hitler, Kim Jong II, and more are all tyrants who inflicted tyranny on their people. Throughout history many tyrants have oppressed their citizens with unfair and harsh treatment and have gotten away with it. Tyranny is known as a cruel, unreasonable, or arbitrary use of power or control inflicted by an oppressive government or ruler. Even though this sadistic behavior continues today, it doesn t in the United Statesof America. In 1775 to 1783, the American Revolutionary War, also known as the U.S. War of Independence, took place. This was a conflict that arose form growing tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the tyrannical British Crown. In response to the callous treatment, a group of colonial delegates (including George Washington of Virginia, John and Samuel Adams or Massachusetts, Patrick Henry of Virginia, and john jay of New York) met in Philadelphia in September 1774 to give voice to their grievances against the British Crown, which is formally known as the First Continental Congress. By June 1776, with the Revolutionary War in full swing, a growing majority of the colonists had come to favor independence from Britain resulting in the continental Congress drafting the Declaration of Independence on July 4. The thirteen colonies officially declared their independence from the tyrant ruler known as King George III of Britain. Eleven years later, in the summer of 1787, fifty five ... Geneticists can now provide a patient with a comprehensive map of their DNA sequence. Obtaining such information can tell a patient if they have the gene variant associated with many different genetically linked diseases such as Alzheimer s, diabetes, heart conditions or even cancer. This medical revolution can indicate what drugs to take, at what dosage and what lifestyle choices can be made in order to prevent the disease or at the least, control the symptoms at the earliest stages as possible. However, a percentage of the Human Genome Project budget was devoted to the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) research. This program was founded to identify and address issues raised by genomic research, including conflicts of interest affecting all the concerned parties. These issues also include worries about insurers using genetic information to impose high premiums and deny coverage or companies refusing employment opportunities. Yet with new technology comes new laws; for example, in the United States, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act was passed on May 21st 2008[1]. As the name implies, this law prohibits employers and health insurance companies from using genetic information, protecting citizens from discrimination based on their predisposition to developing a genetic disorder. If DNA sequencing were to become standard medical procedure, such laws will have to be enacted in order to protect the patient s rights. In the process of developing the Human Genome Project, multiple gene expression based cancer markers were identified. Furthermore, geneticists began to note that cancer pathologies are most often not restricted to one single genomic mutation. On the contrary, a large number of different alterations in a patient s DNA come together and cause the malignant transformation. The combination of mutations, structural variations and ... John Hancock Is The Founding Father Out of all the important contributors to the founding of the United States of America, John Hancock is the Founding Father I chose to research and learn the most about. I feel as though all of the other Founding Fathers are well known and everyone knows a little about each one. John Hancock, for me personally, I knew little to nothing about and I wanted to learn more. I like to learn a lot about subjects that I know nothing about. I also picked John Hancock because of his signature. On every document he signed, his name would be the the most prominent signature. His signature is one of the most well known and I wanted to absorb all of the details about this particular individual behind the signature. John Hancock, who was born in Braintree, Massachusetts on January 23, 1737 grew up with his mother, father, and two siblings. At a very early age, Hancock s father passed away and his mother was too poor to maintain the household, so John was raised by his aunt and uncle. John s uncle, Thomas Hancock, was a wealthy merchant and he owned a very sophisticated mansion in Boston. After graduating in 1750, John continued his education at Harvard University. In 1754, he earned his degree and then went on to work for his uncle at his real estate and shipping business. Soon after, Thomas Hancock passed away and John took over the family business and managed to make it very successful and became the richest man in Boston. He was not illegal though. He was a legal resident that could do much of what a citizen could, but he could not vote. Since he lived in minorities neighborhoods he did not face much discrimination. In 1993, my father, mother, and one year old sister moved to North Carolina. There he faced some more prominent discrimination. My father was making phone calls to check for listings for apartments that were for rent in Raleigh. A lady answered and he told her his name. This change in behaviour could imply how to populations of the Upper Palaeolithic were developing emotions and feelings for the deceased and how they saw life and death in their populations (Renfrew and Bahn 2016; Formicola 2007). While the act of burying the deceased individuals is interesting, the effort that they took enhancing their appearance by placing beads, the use of red ochre and other elaborate mortuary practices shows the changes that were happening to the development of culture in these communities (Dobrovolskaya et al. 2011; Renfrew and Bahn 2016). There is evidence that the upper Palaeolithic communities could have has a social structure within these communities, as with more burial discoveries, there is a clear showing that some individuals had been buried with more grave goods and more time was taken when preparing the burial (Springer and Andrews 2011). The Sunghir burial in Russia contains the skeletal remains of an adult male and double burial of a boy and girl. Both burials contained ivory beads that were attached to clothes they were wearing when buried; there were nearly 3000 ivory beads found in the adult male burial, the double child burials contained over 10,000 beads together which would have taken many hours to create (Springer and Andrews 2011).
