Building an Access Control System
As a member of the Information Security team at a small college, you have been made the project
manager to install an access control system (ACS) in a dormitory. The ACS will automatically
unlock the dormitory doors via an electronic proximity reader and integrate with an existing
security camera system. The cameras are designed to face and rotate to record a person as they use
their identification card to unlock the door.
Create a 3 4 page project plan for this project in which you:
Include a one half page project scope statement.
Define five (5) major tasks, each with one to two (1 2) subtasks. Also write a brief description for
each task.
Create a Gantt chart illustrating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non functional requirements are the attributes of the system; these include: reliability,
performance, cost, system quality attributes, and the challenges encountered during installation.
Steps of Implementing the Project
To complete the installation, the following steps would be accomplished to successfully install the
access control system.
Analysis
The analysis of the problem should take a day. At the analysis stage we determine the solution. The
solution has been identified as the installation of the access control system. At this stage the system
parts are identified; they include input, output, communication devices, power supplies, detection
devices, intelligent panels, card readers, lock hardware, the actions and the response of the system
in case of violation of the input requirements or failure of the system.
Design
The design of the access control system involves coming up with ways of creating or installing the
access control system. The phase should take two days. The system would have a security camera
controlled by a proximal card reader when the actions are triggered. After completing the design of
the system, the identified materials and hardware are to be purchased from various stores.
Programming
The computers controlling the security camera in the control center will be reprogrammed to
ensure they can control the access control system installed in the doors. The relevant

Gilgamesh As An Epic Hero
Gilgamesh is one of literatures first heroes, and there is evidence to suggest that he was a real
historical figure who lived between 2500 and 2700 BC. Gilgamesh is credited with building an
immense wall around the city of Uruk, and gradually over the centuries, a 3,000 line epic poem
was written around 1200 B.C. As the king of Uruk, Gilgamesh is two thirds god and one third man,
exceedingly strong, and a tyrant towards his people. Gilgamesh uses forced labor to accomplish the
building projects of his kingdom. As a result, his people pray to the gods for relief from Gilgamesh
s harshness. The gods provide Gilgamesh with a Wildman named Enkidu; matched in strength, they
become best friends. Together they have many adventures. One venture

Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home
When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the
ones at home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily
and Cody we re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door
slamming. We went upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with
Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and
they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves.
Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was
playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I
then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the
second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more
things done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children.
Since they break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is
about getting more help versus pushing her to do it all on her own.
She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge
during one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He
did not think it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the
lawyers had to said the Judge agreed she

A Critique on Freakonomics, A Nobel by Levitt and Dubner
In Levitt and Dubner s novel, Freakonomics, they deal with the sensitive subject of abortions in
chapter four. During this section, Levitt and Dubner are purposing that the drop of crime is not
because of the many popular ideas they address but instead because of abortions becoming
legalized. Providing proof to their argument, they list out all the popular ideas that many people
believe to be the cause of the drop in crime and then one by one explain why these ideas could
not fit into the massive crime drop. After explaining the list of popular ideas, they finally come
out and state what their take on the crime drop is and explaining why they believe this
explanation instead of the ones listed before (115 145). Levitt and Dubner s flow of writing and
logic are shown very strong in this section and provide an easy and understandable read to the
audience. Using this form of writing also creates an easier understanding for when they get to their
point and distracts the reader into taking account of what they say instead of how offensive it is.
In the beginning of the chapter Levitt and Dubner tell the story the story of how a Communist
dictator of Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu, set a new law to have abortions illegalized and how it
ended up backfiring on him (115 117). Opening with a story, they were able to grab the reader s
attention while also proving a point to their main argument about how legalizing or illegalizing a
law can create a huge impact on the country. While the

Dystopian World Problems
Another problem with A.I. making decisions in the military is that it would change the landscape
of how warfare is fought. Robots lacking the emotional factor makes decisions and actions
dangerous because there will no longer be the empathy when taking lives, which creates a greater
separation between combatants and enemies (Bekey). As a result, the attitude toward wars could
change because humans would no longer have to see death or destruction caused by war, it
would no longer be something considered so horrible because it s out of sight out of mind. Much
like video games have desensitized individuals to killing because they know it is not real nor feel
the pain or agony associated with war. This would unfortunately make waging war between... Show

While experts disagree with how many jobs will be lost due to intelligent machines, most
experts would at least agree that jobs will greatly be impacted by automation becoming more
prevalent in all fields of the labor force. In society, there is already a much wider range of
application of machine intelligence to tasks traditionally done by humans than many people
realize (Cameron 14). Labor has already started going down in some workplaces where
automation has taking over and reports from Bloomberg believe that machines could, replace up
to have the US workforce within the next decade or two (Cameron, Peterson 15). This would
clearly create an unemployment situation where the current recession and depression of the
thirties would look like a joke when compared. Humans could become obsolete in the workforce.
General A.I. could decide that humans are not as effective as robots in the workplace and would
possibly decide to have machines replace all humans job tasks. The economy would change
drastically as a result of huge numbers of unemployment. Unemployment grouped with loss of
purpose paints a very bleak possible future if we are to create a conscious general artificial

What Are The Barriers To The Use Of Evidence Based Practice
Evidence based practice is the practice of making clinical decisions based off the best available
research evidence coupled with the nurse s own expertise, while also taking into account, the
patient s assessments and own personal preferences. This use of research has proven effective at
providing better outcomes and lower healthcare costs, yet there are several barriers, such as time,
education, and support, which prevent nurses from consistently using evidence based practice
(AJN, 2012). The top three barriers to the use of evidence based practice are lack of time,
education, and support in implementing new practices and using them consistently. One of the
main barriers in using evidence based practice is the lack of time in order to implement it into the
nurses days. In one study, many respondents said that, both at work and outside of work hours,
time was just not there (Brown, Wickline, Ecoff, Glaser, 2009). In another study done many
years later, time continued to be a main concern for nurses and that they just didn t feel like it
should be expected for them to keep up with the research (Tacia, Biskupski, Pheley, Lehto,
2015). Many of these restraints on time can easily be addressed though. Some issues, such as,
short staffing can be fixed, while others would take more work to address, such as, not having
enough time at home to research due to familial obligations. Setting aside specific time in the
workday for nurse s to research or hiring more nurses in order to split the work load and allow
more time in between tasks for research could also be solutions to this specific barrier. Another
important barrier is nursing education. Nurses who graduated many years ago were not taught
evidence based practice and even current schools focus too much researching rather than how to
implement current research into care (AJN, 2012). This lack of knowledge on how to implement
may stem from the lack of knowledge on how to read and interpret research data or that nurses
might feel overwhelmed due to the fact that there is so much and might not know how to narrow
what is important or how to read all of it (Brown et al., 2009). In the Tacia study (2015), advanced
care nurses could easily point out

1.The competition to develop and market electric vehicles has increased during the last year and is
expected to continue to increase. The electric bicycle industry has four major manufacturers and a
large group of small companies. The major manufacturers are Honda, Suzuki, Sanyo and Yamaha.
They mainly sell products to Japan and Europe. The other group of manufacturers is much smaller
in size and sales volume. These manufacturers have products they sell into the U.S., European and
Asian markets.

With product innovation, the key to success is capturing the imagination of the customers. Also,
with the rising energy costs facing the world today, governments might require permits or licenses
on the EV industry thus dampening the attractiveness of the market. Before the energy problem,
recharging an EV was cost efficient, but with this rise in energy prices, a potential alteration of
consumer perception about the cost of owning an EV might occur. In my opinion, these driving
forces only dampen the industry thus allowing only early movers to be the most likely to survive
the competition of this industry.
li value= 3 Is the industry attraction? Basing my decision on Porter s five forces model, I would
have to say that the EV industry in unattractive. This is because anyone can enter into the
industry thus creating too much competition which will drive prices down. This driving of
prices downward will cause new entrants into the business to see no real profit growth. Also,
new products being created keeps giving consumers new ideas to buy. This also makes it harder
for businesses in the EV industry to find ways to make buyers choose their business. Also,
suppliers have strong bargaining power so industries have a difficult time trying to shop around
for the best prices on the parts they need. However, Zap was an early mover and is a current market

Homeland Security Review Essay
Every year the United States faces new and different threats and hazards, which can be difficult to
identify. The 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which was released by the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS), laid out what they believe will drive risks to the nation over the next
several years. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats;
biological concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards
which DHS feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). In this paper I will discuss each
threat in more detail and which of these threats pose the ultimate risks to local communities, and
how the communities can utilize their resources to prevent or mitigate these risks. The terrorist
threat is quickly becoming one of the most significant threats to the United States, but more
importantly to local communities. Terrorist threats can come from large scale attacks like the 9/11
attacks or from smaller loan wolf threats like the San Bernardino, CA shootings. In either case, local
communities, families, and law enforcement (LE) agencies feel the initial impact as well as the
immediate and long term fallout. State, local, and tribal governments use the Threat and Hazard
Identification and RiskAssessment process to detect risks and decide how to tackle the challenges
(DHS, 2014, pg. 36). To try to prevent terrorist threats from occurring many local LE agencies have

Persuasive Essay On Child Beauty Pageants
It s 6am, and Shona is waking up her 2 year old daughter, Megan for a busy day of spray tans,
false nails, gown fittings and hours of practicing her walk and dance routine for the beauty
pageant next week. Sounds ridiculous doesn t it? But it s true! Children as young as 18 months are
prancing around a stage doing inappropriate dances and being judged on how good they look. In
my view this is totally unacceptable.
Every year in the United States there are about 5,000 child beauty pageants with around 250,000
participants. Of these a shocking 6% will suffer from depression later in their lives. So that s
15,000 children suffering from depression due to beauty pageants. Girls who have been in
beauty pageants suffer from high levels of body dissatisfaction which can lead to depression;
they may feel that they are not beautiful unless they have make up caked all over their face and
skin looking orange from fake tan. Is this really how we want children to feel? Pageant girls are
also more likely to struggle to achieve perfection when they are older. This may make them more
vulnerable to eating disorders. From a young age they have been taught to value outer beauty and
thinness, and they will go to any lengths to achieve it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pageant contestants have been known to use up to one can of hair spray a day. A recent study has
discovered that the use of too much hair spray can stunt growth, as hair spray contains chemicals
called phthalates and plasticizers. These are chemicals that have been known to act as hormone
disrupters, which means for a growing child they are very harmful. Excessive exposure to
phthalates has also been linked to lung cancer. Despite all of these dangers some children s parents
continue to push their children into the pageant

Teaching And Classroom Management Styles
When I took the surveys, I surprised to see how even keeled my teaching and classroom
management styles were. Before student teaching, I had a general idea of what my ideal teaching
style and classroom management techniques would look like. However, I have realized that a
combination of several teaching styles may be beneficial for students because each studenthas
particular needs for the classroom. According to the teaching style inventory, I can be described as
a facilitator first and foremost, followed by a formal authorityfigure, personal model, and delegator.
According to Grasha, a facilitator can be described as a teacher who enhances the personal nature of
student teacher interactions (143). Facilitators are often guiding entities for students because they
encourage independent work (Grasha 143). In my teaching, I have always thought that student
independence is the ultimate goal. I do not wantto be the sole source of knowledge in the
classroom. Every student has something important to say. In addition to my focus on individual
needs, I still possess qualities of a more traditional classroom teacher. I agree with part of Grasha s
analysis of a formal authority figure; formal authority figures are concerned with establishing
learning goals, expectations, and rules of conduct for students (143). Students need some
consistency and expectations for how to operate in a classroom environment. If this is not provided,
there will be chaos. My teaching style includes

Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an
emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in
the concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months
(having been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire familymy mother, father, and
sister managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed
wire with me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only
survived because you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think
I would be able to find you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just
want to know a few things. How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have
known about them previously (since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have
shocked you. What did you think of gas chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of
deceased Jews? I still remember them; their memory bothers me no longer, though. I have not

What caused that hesitation? You and your fellow soldiers pitied us Jews, and we were rarely

Finally, are you still haunted by the visions of the concentration camps? The bodies dumped into

these things still haunt you? These scars do not heal. I have not healed, so I suspect you have not,

The Implementation Of Senate Bill 14
Your question concerns the implementation of Senate Bill 14, which added new voter identification
requirements for in person voting statewide. Prior to June 26, 2013; Texas and a number of other
states and political subdivisions could not alter their voting requirements without preclearance from
either the U.S. Attorney General or a three judge panel sitting for the U.S. District Court of the
District of Columbia. Following the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder,
states beholden to the preclearance requirement were released, subject to an amendment to the
coverage formula in В§ 4(b) of the VotingRights Act of 1965. While you understand that Texas now
has equal ability to alter its electionprocedures as states never covered by В§ 4(b), you desire to
do so in a way that would not again bring the Texas legislature s exercise of authority under the
scrutiny of Congress or the Constitution. Senate Bill 14 amended, most significantly, Sec. 63.0101
of the Election Code the Documentation of Proof of Identification section. Texas voters could
previously show their (1) voter certificate, (2) any ID issued by a government agency in any state,
whether or not the ID was expired, (3) any photo ID that established identity, (4) birth certificate or
equivalent document, (5) U.S. citizenship papers, (6) U.S passport, (7) official mail from a
government entity, or (8) current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other

Relationship Between Gilgamesh And Enkidu
Gilgamesh and Enkidu
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the paths of two extremely different men converge and propel them on a
journey to become of the most legendary duos in literary history. Fate, it would have it, destined
them to collide and satiate their desire for companionship. Enkidu and Gilgamesh are a
complementary match. Many factors contribute to the significance of this relationship and what
each stood to gain from the other. Before Enkidu s creation, Gilgamesh wasn t a pleasant king. He
wreaked havoc on his subjects in the city of Uruk. By day and by night his tyranny grows harsher
(Gilgamesh 86, tablet I). He withdrew all young men from their fathers to be soldiers for his Army.

this dramatical fight testing each other strengths until Gilgamesh s anger subsides and he stops
the fight and forms a friendship with Enkidu. Ninsun, the mother of Gilgamesh, reminds them of
how Enkidu has no brother and no family and it makes Enkidu sad. Gilgamesh hated seeing his
friend hurt so he proposes they go fight the ferocious Humbaba, the mystical monster in the
Forest of Cedar. Enkidu advises against going on the quest. From what he remembers living in
the wild, no one would dare go fight Humbaba. Gilgamesh gives him a hard time stating Why my
friend, do you speak like a weakling? With your spineless words you make me despondent (tablet
II, 232 33). He then precedes to remind Enkidu of their strengths and that together Humbaba can
be defeated. This is the start of their Epic destiny together. The journeys and battles they face
really show the parallels between the two characters and how their personalities mesh together as
if they were one person at times but also flipping roles in certain situations. When they finally

Comparing Siddhartha Gautama And Mahayana Buddhism
If history has taught us anything, is that whoever has the power gets heard the most. Minorities get
pushed aside unless aided by a higher voice. Likewise with the universal relgions of Mahayana
Buddhisma and Christanity, Ashoka and Constantine served as vessels of higher authority in the
spreading of their respective religions. Without political support, the spread of new concepts like
religionhave a harder time seeping into the mindsets of societies. Often these ideas undergo
discrimination, if not termination altogether.

Research Paper On Kitsune
Kitsune are from Japanese folklore and are Japanese foxes. A kitsune can have up to nine tails,
depending on its age, wisdom and power. The only way to kill a kitsune is to cut off all of its
tails, as it is said that one of the tails is its main tail and the source of all its power. Not knowing
which tail is the main one, one would have to cut off all its tails to kill it.One, five, seven, and nine
tails are the most common numbers in folk stories. When a kitsunegains its ninth tail, its fur
becomes white or gold.
A kitsune is a shapeshifter, and usually when it reaches the age of 100 years, it learn the ability to

Comparison Between Raphael And Leonardo Da Vinci s Last...
Art is a conversation between the artist and the audience, and through which the artwork is the
medium between both. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece,
and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and
knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple
conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is
the artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the
audienceis time. Throughout history, this has been the case Raphael and his Galatea, and Leonardo
da Vinciand his Last Supper but in more recent times,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each
block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks
fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a
distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which
the industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This
elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through
the intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any
preconstructed view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as
possible, Judd focuses the attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and
particularly the piece. Of course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his
views, from the work. Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are
affecting the piece, I now consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and

III. SECURITY ISSUES
1. Authentication: Cellular networks have a large number of subscriber. Each user has to be
authenticated to ensure that the correct people are using the network.
2. Integrity: It is important that the data such as SMS, chat, and file transfer arrives without any
modification.
3. Confidentiality: In sensitive communication, it s essential to have a secure channel in order to
transmit the information.
4. Access control: The cellular device may have some files that needs to be restricted to them. The
device might access a database where some access control is necessary.
5. OS in mobile device: Some phones may have java based OS, some have Microsoft based on OS
and have the same ability as desktop computer. So issues may arise in those OS which are open
security holes.
6. Web services: This use HTTP protocol which opens variety of security issues such as viruses,
denial of service attack etc.
7. Location Detection: The actual location of a user needs to be kept hidden for privacy reasons of
that user. With the move to IP based networks, their location might be compromised.
8. Viruses and malware: The first virus that attacked the cellular device was Liberty. An affected
device is easy to use in order to destroy a cellular infrastructure.

The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil...
One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of
pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the
adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according
to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods
contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has
developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to
keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the
cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil
quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of
genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of
pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government
purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people
who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in
order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. Hazardous effects of
pesticides on soil organisms People are becoming more aware of the hazards of genetically
modified foods. However they may still be unaware of its effects on the soil from which

Explain How Different Are The Things That Make Me
The things that make me different are the things that make me. A.A. Milne Being different is the
only thing that all of us are able to do. To be yourself is something that requires no prerequisites
of any kind or any type of planning. Science has proved that we share the same DNA but yet we are
all different. We are all special and I believe we should have a chance to show that. Being
different is something I grew up being told was a good thing my whole life. It was one of them
things that everyone always said but had no meaning when you were a child. It is programmed
into us all the way down to the molecular level in our DNA. We all share the same DNA and yet

During the transition into the new millennium, a number of factors including new technology,
sports personalities, and originality of new fans, led to the media destruction of modern sports. The
media changed professional and amateur athletics into businesses rather than into moralistic
entertainment while disgracefully exploiting higher education and individuals in the sporting
world. The press has also produced a new set of ideals and attitudes in the fans and players of
popular sports (Torr 49).What began in the transition to the new millennium is now an ever
occurring phenomenon that plagues the wide world of sports. While it is true that the media
occasionally broadcasts stories of unlikely successes and cordial charity, it consistently publicizes
the most shameful and less copious actions of certain athletes and leagues. One of the most prolific
examples derives from the National Football League, which has a substantial problem with
regulating touchdown celebrations and dances. Rather than help control the problem, the media
feels the need to emphasize the celebrations more so than the actual plays. Athletes have engaged in
line dances, dice rolling, fake photo shoots, air guitar playing, and many other imprudent dances
and actions. The most notable occasions (thanks to the media) include: Joe Horn removing a cell

Saint Patrick and St Patrick s Day

Religion 9 H 4
Fourth Quarter Report
Part 1: The process of Canonization is the process that a person must go through to become a
saint. This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here
is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They
must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must
start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this
person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he
does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person.
People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and
holiness. Many of the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the
time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles
credited to his or her name. If they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like
Blessed Edmund Rice. When they get two miracles and they will in fact become a recognized saint
in the Catholic Church.
Part 2: St. Patrick Saint Patrick is one of the most well known saints in the Catholic Church. Along
with the two saints, St. Nicholas and St. Valentine, St. Patrick has a worldwide day that shares the
love for them, St. Patrick s

Macon, Georgia – We Made The Big Move At The Beginning
Macon, Georgia We made the big move at the beginning of my senior year and I was around 16
at the time. I had all of my senior credits for school in Colorado because of advanced placement
courses. But Texas had a whole new set of rules regarding graduation. There was a test called
TAAS, which I was expected to take with less than a year of preparation, while the rest of the
students had been raised and prepared for this test their entire school life. I knew that I would
have academic obstacles because the curriculum was also different and most of it focused on
southern issues that were new to me, such as FFA and welding courses as electives. If the new high
schoolwasn t going to be a problem, my new home life would. It s very hard... Show more content

From the moment we arrived in Macon, the family treated us like outsiders because of what little
they knew about my dad and our new move. When it became evident that we would be there for
a while, I was enrolled in the local high school, where I had numerous cousins and one of my
younger sisters with me. My sister quickly found a spot among the it kids, while I stood back
and observed trying to make sure she stayed clear of trouble. I had few if any peers who talked
to me when not required. This school was a majority African American, so again I m not fitting
in with the races because I talk and act differently (my dad made sure we spoke proper, no jargon
all the time). There were teasing and name calling but I remained strong because I knew that my
younger sister was getting the worse of the deal. She had to begin school the way she enrolled
and things were so bad for her, that during her first week she got into multiple altercations with
other students, some who were her blood relatives. I had no friends, more so enemies and my
guard was always up because my cousins loved to get me in trouble, even when I had done
nothing wrong. Finishing high school remained my biggest concern because at least then I could
try to work and find a new home for us (we had to stay with relatives). I never could stand

Ethical Issues In Emergency Management
Involving stakeholders is not a very daunting task. To develop an effective emergency management
system, the local emergency manager must involve all relevant stakeholders in the process (Lindell
et al., 2007, p. 29). Communication with all stakeholders must be established. They have to
understand that the emergency managementprocess belongs to them and that they have some control
over the processes. These type of assertive communicationwill enable a good trusting relationship.
Stakeholders are also very important in communicating information to the public. The public do
not all heed emergency protocols the same way. Even programs that help the very same
community has potential to hurt the community. While these public programs are effective in
mitigating the disruptive impacts of disaster after effects, they may provide perverse incentives
for individuals exposed to hazards (Davlasheridze, 2017, p. 95). Individuals who are given aid,
resources, and other means to support their way of life may solely depend on these programs and
not take steps to care for themselves. Low income groups on government welfare have tendency to
remain in these programs for longer duration. Personal emergency preparedness is emerging as a
complicated behavior that emergency... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Humorous Wedding Speech by Brother of the Groom
Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentleman It s my job to reply to the toast to the bridesmaids and

points. The problem is he doesn t have any good points. Well, except for being naturally gifted at

So, on behalf of the bridesmaid, Claire, I would like to start by thanking George for his kind words.

Peggy stunning, as always. And, for a change, George has scrubbed up quite nicely too. He looks

The truth is, George has and always will be the prototypical big brother. All through my life, he has
blazed trails for me. In school, I would always be greeted by new teachers with the comment, I
remember your brother he was my student and a great guy , or, I hope you are as well mannered
as your brother , or, Will you be taking over the role as the school idiot now your brother has left?
. But in all seriousness, following in someone s footsteps is never easy, but the paths that my
brother paved for me made it particularly difficult.
A story I want to share with you about my dear brother took place about eight years ago. After a
night on the tiles, George returned home and went straight to bed. After a short while, he started
feeling a little bit nauseous and, in a moment of drunken clarity, opted to vomit out of his
bedroom window. This isn t as foolish as it sounds, because the garage roof protruded under
George s room. So, rather than stain his carpet and surely be caught in the morning, he hoped the
roof and gutter would bear the brunt of the evidence of a very drunk young man until the
following day, when it could easily be washed away. A great strategy you may think, but it had a
one fatal flaw. The force with which George heaved far overshot both the garage roof and the
gutter, but was just enough to land squarely on the windscreen of dad s car. And there it remained
until a very angry dad dragged

Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And...
We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles,
problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily
Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own
identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring
theme of Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within
Interstellar and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they
adapt to the force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling
to certain things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a
purpose again due to their struggle for survival.
Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect
their stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of
her ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves
their planet from extinction. All that time, Murph tediously trying to figure out what her ghost was
trying to communicate, Murph finally makes the realization that he came back! It was him! All this

Illegality Of Drugs
Illegality of drugs (Legalize It All essay)
For many decades there has been a continuous debate about legalizing drugs. The ongoing debate
spotlights whether legalization would positively or negatively impact society. In the essay, Legalize
It All, Baum argues that the legalization of drugs is the best way to prevent any drug related
violence and addiction when the government regulates the drug usage and sales. I disagree with
Baum s ideas on drug legality as I believe all drugs should remain illegal. I disagree with Baum s
statement drugs should remain illegal. However, I do see strong benefits in drug regulation such
as fewer children being involved in drugs as well as reduced crime rates.
At this current time, 8:03 am, there must be at least two people doing drugs secretly out of fear
of being arrested. Others do not do drugs for fear of the exact same thing but if drugs were to be
made legal, more people would be inclined to become daily users and openly use them. Baum
believes that through legalizing drugs, a number of addictions will be limited. He explained
that although about half of all Americans older than twelve have tried an illegal drug, only 20
percent of those have used one in the past month. (pg 25) HALF OF ALL AMERICANS have
tried an illegal drug the rest are either too scared to try an illegal drug or it goes against their
ethics. If these drugs were legal, the number of Americans to try drugs would be greater due to the
decrease in price and the easy accessibility.
In Legalize It All, Baum explains that if we regulate drugs, we can prevent young children from
doing drugs and decrease the amount of addicts in the city. Through my experience, I believe that
the opposite of what Baum believes will occur. Take, for example, the regulations on cigarettes.
Children that are younger than 18 are prohibited to smoke. However, on my way to school, I see
many underaged teens smoking. This proves that regulations do not always work. Children are
aware of the negative effects of tobacco yet they continue to smoke. The same goes for drinking
alcohol. If we cannot regulate the use of cigarettes or alcohol, what is to say that the regulations on
drugs will be successful? Baum has not thought out the

One critical advantage that I can easily associate this position with is the ability to equip officers
with a wide range of skills, all of which are necessary to the success of an officer. Secondly, the
position of a branch officer provides the officers with valuable opportunities to interact with
officers with different specializations, which is critical to the development of essential
leadership skills and the accumulation of vital information or knowledge to facilitate leadership
later in one s career. In addition, this position provides officers with an exceptional opportunity
to develop essential skills in communication and teamwork (U.S. Army War College, 2012). One
of the disadvantages associated with this position is the possibility of stagnation in one s career,
especially where such an officer does not develop a positive attitude toward the position, thus
failing to recognize valuable opportunities for career development. Secondly, officer holding this
position are likely to consider it to be a waste of their time, especially when the officers have
careers that involve high level of specialization in technical fields and the officers are unable to
identify key development areas to pursue. Thirdly, such positions could lead in high levels of
inefficiency especially in situations where the officers are not motivated to work in those positions.
Despite these disadvantages, I still look forward to holding the position of a branch immaterial

Lincoln s Emancipation Proclamation Essay
Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 to April 14, 1865) was the 16th president of the United
States and is regarded as one of America s greatest heroes due to his role as savior of the Union
and emancipator of the slaves. His rise from humble beginnings to achieving the highest office in
the land is a remarkable story. He was suddenly and tragically assassinated at a time when his
country needed him to complete the great task remaining before the nation. His eloquence of
democracy and insistence that the Union was worth saving embody the ideals of self government
that all nations strive to achieve. Lincoln s distinctively human and humane personality and
incredible impact on the nation has endowed him with an enduring legacy.

The Civil War, Lincoln said, was the ultimate test of the preservation of the Union created in 1776,
and the dead at Gettysburg fought to uphold this cause. Lincoln evoked the Declaration of
Independence, saying it was up to the living to ensure that the government of the people, by the
people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth, and this Union was dedicated to the
proposition that all men are created equal. A common interpretation was that the President was
expanding the cause of the Civil War from simply reunifying the Union to also fighting for equality
and abolishing slavery.
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, by well known actor and Confederate
sympathizer John Wilkes Booth at Ford s Theater in Washington, D.C. He was taken from the
theater to the Petersen House across the street and laid in a coma for nine hours before dying the
next morning. His body lay in state at the Capitol before a funeral train took him back to his final
resting place in Springfield, Illinois.
Family
Abraham Lincoln was born to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Thomas was a strong
and determined pioneer who found a moderate level of prosperity and was well respected in the
community. The couple had two other children: Abraham s older sister Sarah and younger brother
Thomas, who died in infancy.

Dental Braces Research Paper
Life After the Braces Come Off
A vast majority of patients who wear dental braces, do so for an average of 18 to 36 months.
However, there are some who may need to wear their orthodontic hardware for a longer period
since each situation and each person s individual dental health needs differ. Regardless of how long
you wear your dental braces, they are not a permanent, lifetime commitment. There will come a
time when your dental braces will be removed and you will need to adhere to an appropriate
aftercare plan as part of the transition process. Caring dentists in Silver Spring, MD, can help you
with braces.
What can I Expect When My Braces are Removed?
Once your braces are removed, your dentist will want to determine the level of progress your teeth
made during the time that you wore the orthodontic hardware. In order for him or her to do that,
the dentist will give your teeth a good, thorough cleaning, take some dental images, and may also
take some bite impressions to make a comparison and see what progress was made. Your dentist
will also check to determine if your wisdom teeth have come in. If they have, then your dentist may
discuss removing them since they could ultimately affect your newly straightened teeth and set

things you want to do is to disrupt the progress that you made and allow your teeth to return to
their former positions. With that said, after your dental braces have been removed, your dentist
may recommend that you wear a dental retainer for a period of time to prevent your teeth from
slipping back into their former positions.

many displays of this theme, ranging from the Hubermann s kindness to take in Max, to the
cruelty of Viktor and friends towards Rudy. The acts of kindness and cruelty have a lasting
impact on the characters involved, and change them for the better or worse. The first and biggest
act of kindness is the Hubermann s deciding to take in and hide Max. They potentially risk their
lives by doing this, but they know it s the kind thing to do. Because of this, Liesel and Max both
find a new friend, which is what they desperately need after a lot of traumatic events in their lives.

Just imagine, someone is ringing the doorbell, the person who answers the call is still half asleep,
and they are thinking it s the mailman. Once the door opens it takes the turn for the worst, men
forcing their way in, confiscating all possessions, and then manhandling the poor victim into a
mysterious vehicle. Roxana Saberi, that is her name, she is the poor victim of this tragic event all
because she is writing a book, but Iran thinks this is just a cover up on the United States attempt

What we learn about Saberi that she is a North Dakota native from the city of Fargo, a freelance
reporter in Iran, but that doesn t last much longer once she is in Evin Prison. Saberi exhibits fear in
this piece when she receives the note, My heart began to pound, when Iran asks her to cooperate
during the cooperation, Cooperate. I had no idea what kind of cooperation these people were
talking about. Even when she is in her prison cell, she is so scared that she does not even know
what to do, From this height, I couldn t expect to survive if I jumped, and I had neither enough
guts nor enough bed sheets to swing my way down to safety (Saberi). These three examples are
only a few that exhibits her human side in the story, and yet Saberi incorporated these three into
her story to show the uncertainty she goes through. Her actions show us about human nature by
trying to shut the door when she is frightened by the note, trying to take the easy way but chose
not to because she still believes in herself in doing what is right. Nobody is perfect, but we all
can relate to these actions even though there are many more in the story. Her captors, they are in
life to strike fear into the eyes of many by forcing themselves in other s domains, interrogate
those who they think are a threat, and even by ravaging through one s possessions. Roxana
Saberi, she is a rather courageous woman by trying to keep herself calm during the home invasion,

that PAM offers a high school diploma, while PAFA s school is a secondary education school. Also,
because it is older, PAFA holds more prestige over PAM, and, organization wise is more developed

Traveling, trade, economy, technologies were completely changed after its creation. The world
became smaller, and people started to think differently about the world. Two main stories are
important for the invention of the aircraft. First, the Wright brothers are known as the creators
of the airplane. They are believed to be the inventors of the machine for the most part of the
world. The brothers created a prototype that was able fly with the help of a catapult, in other
words, the machine could just float. It could not put itself in the by using self propulsion. The
second story is that the creation of the airplane is given to Santos Dumont, a Brazilian citizen
that expanded his aircraft studies in France; A man who studied many different types of flying
equipment, including the airplane. His prototype, the14 BIS, could fly and handle itself on the
air with a gas engine developed to do so. The first airplanes were developed in the beginning of
the 20th century right before the World War I in which aircraft was most utilized for observation.
With the evolution of the technology, aircraft started to have more utilization so that during the
World War II they were very important weapons delivery and bombing the battle fields.
Reconnaissance was another function for the aircraft during World War II. Thus, the development
of the planes had to be followed by the creation of the airports. In the early days of aviation airports

Examples Of Enlightened Despotism
The key to Enlightenment during this time period is rationality, meaning rulers probably favored
science and philosophy. Rulers actually became more open minded and provided more freedoms for
their subjects during this period of time. For instance, rulers often implemented freedom of religion,
and freedom of speech. Rulers also funded the arts, science, and education. They wanted the masses
to be more knowledgeable so that the kingdom overall can become more intelligent and productive.
Enlightened Despotism is when a monarch adopts the ideas of the Enlightenment, primarily
rationality, which means he probably funded arts, sciences, and education, while also allowing his
subjects more freedom. An example of an enlightened despot of the eighteenth century was
Catherine the Great. She was the ruler of Russia and helped the country in many ways. For
example, Catherine built an art museum. It was named the Hermitage Museum. It started off as
Catherine s personal art and literature collection. Not only that, but she also invested a great deal of
her wealth into creating education institutes throughout Russia. She fought for women s education
rights. She was also the first ruler to issue paper money in Russia, meaning she established... Show

The Power Of Words In The Book Thief By Mein Kampf
Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to
humiliate, and to humble. (Economy). Consequently, this quote exemplifies the illustrious meaning
of words being so powerful that they will never be forgotten and only be remembered by those that
they affect most. Words give us the power to communicate and explain our thoughts, which can
affect change on others in the society. Therefore, they are not as influential and manipulative as
they seem to be. In the novel, The Book Thief, power of words are used as emotion, influential, and
building knowledge.
To begin, words bring power, which can effect change within emotion. In other words, The Book
Thief and Mein Kampf brought examples where powerful words affect emotions. For instance,
they compare with each other because the words are so powerful that they impact the people in
the same ways. Liesel and Hans relationship is extremely strong. Their love shows how the
massive power of words can bring people closer together. Also, how they can calm people down; it
allows the characters to get away from what is happening in their surroundings. Similarly, in Mein
Kampf, there was a gargantuan amount of emotions that it sent through the citizens that read it. On
the other hand, Mein Kampf produced emotions that brought anger and fear to characters. Germans
who saw their old neighbors being ripped from their homes and pulled through towns to their death
were too scared of the nefarious

Pros And Negatives Of The Gold Rush
The Gold Rush was a period of time that totally transformed the United States. The Gold Rush
expanded America and added new and improved culture into the country. People came from far
and wide to search for gold and hunt for newfound money. So much gold was found it gave a lot
of people that did not have money hope. It gave considerable positives like temporary economic
stability and the ultimate expansion of America. Even though the Gold Rush encouraged some
economic stability, it was ultimately harmful because it caused economic recession, it kept the
country in economic chaos for too long a period, and expanded xenophobia due to the influx of
outsiders coming for gold. The United Statesof America was in absolute turmoil right before the
Gold Rush due to tensions regarding slavery. On the East Coast there was the debate over
slavery and there were talks about secession from the South. No state had discerned whether or
not to secede yet, but there were talks including the Missouri Compromise and the Nullification
Crisis. The Missouri Compromise was a compromise created by Henry Clay to maintain the
balance of slave and free states in the Union. The Nullification Crisis was when the North and
South had so many disagreements a compromise was made where if two thirds of a state decided
they wanted to nullify a law they could. On the west coast, the Mexican American war was
coming to a close. This was a territorial war that took place near the Rio Grande. Former

Severe Acne Vulgaris
In today s day and age, many people, from infants to young children to middle aged adults, suffer
from acne. According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, acne is the most common
skincare problem addressed by doctors (2016). Generally speaking, acne comes in many different
forms such as white heads, black heads, cysts, pimples, and different bumps on the skin affecting
people of all ages.
Acne Vulgaris, otherwise understood as the medical name of acne, is a well known chronic
disorder that is associated with increased sebum secretion, according to the National Library of
Medicine (2013).

This finally leads to an inflammatory response seen as papules, pustules, and nodules. The
bacterium also causes the formation of free fatty acids, which are irritants, increasing the
inflammatory process in the follicle (EFPIA, 2016)
Severe acne with associated systemic signs and symptoms, such as fever, is referred to as acne
fulminans. Severe acne, characterized by multiple comedones, without the presence of systemic
symptoms, is known as acne conglobata. This severe form of acne typically heals with lasting
scars. Local symptoms of acne vulgaris may include pain, tenderness, or even erythema (Informed
Health, 2013).
Although acne is seen to only affect the main organ, the skin, different systems of the body are
affected in unison, including the endocrine system, immune system, circulatory system, nervous
system and the digestive system. The long term complications of acne remain as psychological
damage. Many can develop lasting scarring from the skin irritations including atrophic scars,
hypertrophic scars, and keloid scars. While the experience of acne may not be deemed as life
threatening, it does carry with it significant psychological disability (Rubin, Kim, Logan, 2008).

  • 3. Gilgamesh As An Epic Hero Gilgamesh is one of literatures first heroes, and there is evidence to suggest that he was a real historical figure who lived between 2500 and 2700 BC. Gilgamesh is credited with building an immense wall around the city of Uruk, and gradually over the centuries, a 3,000 line epic poem was written around 1200 B.C. As the king of Uruk, Gilgamesh is two thirds god and one third man, exceedingly strong, and a tyrant towards his people. Gilgamesh uses forced labor to accomplish the building projects of his kingdom. As a result, his people pray to the gods for relief from Gilgamesh s harshness. The gods provide Gilgamesh with a Wildman named Enkidu; matched in strength, they become best friends. Together they have many adventures. One venture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the ones at home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily and Cody we re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door slamming. We went upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves. Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more things done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children. Since they break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is about getting more help versus pushing her to do it all on her own. She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge during one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He did not think it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the lawyers had to said the Judge agreed she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Critique on Freakonomics, A Nobel by Levitt and Dubner In Levitt and Dubner s novel, Freakonomics, they deal with the sensitive subject of abortions in chapter four. During this section, Levitt and Dubner are purposing that the drop of crime is not because of the many popular ideas they address but instead because of abortions becoming legalized. Providing proof to their argument, they list out all the popular ideas that many people believe to be the cause of the drop in crime and then one by one explain why these ideas could not fit into the massive crime drop. After explaining the list of popular ideas, they finally come out and state what their take on the crime drop is and explaining why they believe this explanation instead of the ones listed before (115 145). Levitt and Dubner s flow of writing and logic are shown very strong in this section and provide an easy and understandable read to the audience. Using this form of writing also creates an easier understanding for when they get to their point and distracts the reader into taking account of what they say instead of how offensive it is. In the beginning of the chapter Levitt and Dubner tell the story the story of how a Communist dictator of Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu, set a new law to have abortions illegalized and how it ended up backfiring on him (115 117). Opening with a story, they were able to grab the reader s attention while also proving a point to their main argument about how legalizing or illegalizing a law can create a huge impact on the country. • 6. Dystopian World Problems Another problem with A.I. making decisions in the military is that it would change the landscape of how warfare is fought. Robots lacking the emotional factor makes decisions and actions dangerous because there will no longer be the empathy when taking lives, which creates a greater separation between combatants and enemies (Bekey). As a result, the attitude toward wars could change because humans would no longer have to see death or destruction caused by war, it would no longer be something considered so horrible because it s out of sight out of mind. Much like video games have desensitized individuals to killing because they know it is not real nor feel the pain or agony associated with war. This would unfortunately make waging war between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While experts disagree with how many jobs will be lost due to intelligent machines, most experts would at least agree that jobs will greatly be impacted by automation becoming more prevalent in all fields of the labor force. In society, there is already a much wider range of application of machine intelligence to tasks traditionally done by humans than many people realize (Cameron 14). Labor has already started going down in some workplaces where automation has taking over and reports from Bloomberg believe that machines could, replace up to have the US workforce within the next decade or two (Cameron, Peterson 15). This would clearly create an unemployment situation where the current recession and depression of the thirties would look like a joke when compared. Humans could become obsolete in the workforce. General A.I. could decide that humans are not as effective as robots in the workplace and would possibly decide to have machines replace all humans job tasks. The economy would change drastically as a result of huge numbers of unemployment. Unemployment grouped with loss of purpose paints a very bleak possible future if we are to create a conscious general artificial intelligent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Are The Barriers To The Use Of Evidence Based Practice Evidence based practice is the practice of making clinical decisions based off the best available research evidence coupled with the nurse s own expertise, while also taking into account, the patient s assessments and own personal preferences. This use of research has proven effective at providing better outcomes and lower healthcare costs, yet there are several barriers, such as time, education, and support, which prevent nurses from consistently using evidence based practice (AJN, 2012). The top three barriers to the use of evidence based practice are lack of time, education, and support in implementing new practices and using them consistently. One of the main barriers in using evidence based practice is the lack of time in order to implement it into the nurses days. In one study, many respondents said that, both at work and outside of work hours, time was just not there (Brown, Wickline, Ecoff, Glaser, 2009). In another study done many years later, time continued to be a main concern for nurses and that they just didn t feel like it should be expected for them to keep up with the research (Tacia, Biskupski, Pheley, Lehto, 2015). Many of these restraints on time can easily be addressed though. Some issues, such as, short staffing can be fixed, while others would take more work to address, such as, not having enough time at home to research due to familial obligations. Setting aside specific time in the workday for nurse s to research or hiring more nurses in order to split the work load and allow more time in between tasks for research could also be solutions to this specific barrier. Another important barrier is nursing education. Nurses who graduated many years ago were not taught evidence based practice and even current schools focus too much researching rather than how to implement current research into care (AJN, 2012). This lack of knowledge on how to implement may stem from the lack of knowledge on how to read and interpret research data or that nurses might feel overwhelmed due to the fact that there is so much and might not know how to narrow what is important or how to read all of it (Brown et al., 2009). In the Tacia study (2015), advanced care nurses could easily point out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The electric bicycle industry has four major manufacturers and a large group of small companies. The major manufacturers are Honda, Suzuki, Sanyo and Yamaha. They mainly sell products to Japan and Europe. The other group of manufacturers is much smaller in size and sales volume. These manufacturers have products they sell into the U.S., European and Asian markets. Also, with the rising energy costs facing the world today, governments might require permits or licenses on the EV industry thus dampening the attractiveness of the market. Before the energy problem, recharging an EV was cost efficient, but with this rise in energy prices, a potential alteration of consumer perception about the cost of owning an EV might occur. In my opinion, these driving forces only dampen the industry thus allowing only early movers to be the most likely to survive the competition of this industry. li value= 3 Is the industry attraction? Basing my decision on Porter s five forces model, I would have to say that the EV industry in unattractive. This is because anyone can enter into the industry thus creating too much competition which will drive prices down. This driving of prices downward will cause new entrants into the business to see no real profit growth. Also, new products being created keeps giving consumers new ideas to buy. This also makes it harder for businesses in the EV industry to find ways to make buyers choose their business. Also, suppliers have strong bargaining power so industries have a difficult time trying to shop around for the best prices on the parts they need. • 11. Homeland Security Review Essay Every year the United States faces new and different threats and hazards, which can be difficult to identify. The 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, which was released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), laid out what they believe will drive risks to the nation over the next several years. The report pinpointed six calculated challenges terrorist threats; cyber threats; biological concerns; nuclear terrorism; transnational criminal organizations, and natural hazards which DHS feels are the most likely to occur (DHS, 2014, pg. 28). In this paper I will discuss each threat in more detail and which of these threats pose the ultimate risks to local communities, and how the communities can utilize their resources to prevent or mitigate these risks. The terrorist threat is quickly becoming one of the most significant threats to the United States, but more importantly to local communities. Terrorist threats can come from large scale attacks like the 9/11 attacks or from smaller loan wolf threats like the San Bernardino, CA shootings. In either case, local communities, families, and law enforcement (LE) agencies feel the initial impact as well as the immediate and long term fallout. State, local, and tribal governments use the Threat and Hazard Identification and RiskAssessment process to detect risks and decide how to tackle the challenges (DHS, 2014, pg. 36). To try to prevent terrorist threats from occurring many local LE agencies have become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Persuasive Essay On Child Beauty Pageants It s 6am, and Shona is waking up her 2 year old daughter, Megan for a busy day of spray tans, false nails, gown fittings and hours of practicing her walk and dance routine for the beauty pageant next week. Sounds ridiculous doesn t it? But it s true! Children as young as 18 months are prancing around a stage doing inappropriate dances and being judged on how good they look. In my view this is totally unacceptable. Every year in the United States there are about 5,000 child beauty pageants with around 250,000 participants. Of these a shocking 6% will suffer from depression later in their lives. So that s 15,000 children suffering from depression due to beauty pageants. Girls who have been in beauty pageants suffer from high levels of body dissatisfaction which can lead to depression; they may feel that they are not beautiful unless they have make up caked all over their face and skin looking orange from fake tan. Is this really how we want children to feel? Pageant girls are also more likely to struggle to achieve perfection when they are older. This may make them more vulnerable to eating disorders. From a young age they have been taught to value outer beauty and thinness, and they will go to any lengths to achieve it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. Teaching And Classroom Management Styles When I took the surveys, I surprised to see how even keeled my teaching and classroom management styles were. Before student teaching, I had a general idea of what my ideal teaching style and classroom management techniques would look like. However, I have realized that a combination of several teaching styles may be beneficial for students because each studenthas particular needs for the classroom. According to the teaching style inventory, I can be described as a facilitator first and foremost, followed by a formal authorityfigure, personal model, and delegator. According to Grasha, a facilitator can be described as a teacher who enhances the personal nature of student teacher interactions (143). Facilitators are often guiding entities for students because they encourage independent work (Grasha 143). In my teaching, I have always thought that student independence is the ultimate goal. I do not wantto be the sole source of knowledge in the classroom. Every student has something important to say. In addition to my focus on individual needs, I still possess qualities of a more traditional classroom teacher. I agree with part of Grasha s analysis of a formal authority figure; formal authority figures are concerned with establishing learning goals, expectations, and rules of conduct for students (143). Students need some consistency and expectations for how to operate in a classroom environment. If this is not provided, there will be chaos. My teaching style includes ... • 14. Elie Wiesel Diary Entries Hello. It s been seventy years since we met, and here we are: still alive. I was ten years old, an emaciated little girl with ragged hair. You were a soldier, and you saved me. Had I remained in the concentration camp any longer, I would have died. Although I was there just a few months (having been discovered a short time before the war ended), my entire familymy mother, father, and sister managed to perish in the flames of the crematorium. But when you stood inside the barbed wire with me, carrying the flag that bears freedom, I knew I could not burn with them. I only survived because you liberated me. Even though I came to America shortly after, I did not think I would be able to find you... but seventy years later, I have. Now that I have found you, I just want to know a few things. How did you feel when you discovered my camp? You may not have known about them previously (since these camps were secrets to the world), so it may have shocked you. What did you think of gas chambers, the crematoria, and the mass pits full of deceased Jews? I still remember them; their memory bothers me no longer, though. You and your fellow soldiers pitied us Jews, and we were rarely fed, so you must have known that too much food would have made me ill. It was just chocolate. • 15. The Implementation Of Senate Bill 14 Your question concerns the implementation of Senate Bill 14, which added new voter identification requirements for in person voting statewide. Prior to June 26, 2013; Texas and a number of other states and political subdivisions could not alter their voting requirements without preclearance from either the U.S. Attorney General or a three judge panel sitting for the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. Following the Supreme Court decision in Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder, states beholden to the preclearance requirement were released, subject to an amendment to the coverage formula in В§ 4(b) of the VotingRights Act of 1965. While you understand that Texas now has equal ability to alter its electionprocedures as states never covered by В§ 4(b), you desire to do so in a way that would not again bring the Texas legislature s exercise of authority under the scrutiny of Congress or the Constitution. Senate Bill 14 amended, most significantly, Sec. 63.0101 of the Election Code the Documentation of Proof of Identification section. Texas voters could previously show their (1) voter certificate, (2) any ID issued by a government agency in any state, whether or not the ID was expired, (3) any photo ID that established identity, (4) birth certificate or equivalent document, (5) U.S. citizenship papers, (6) U.S passport, (7) official mail from a government entity, or (8) current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document. Ninsun, the mother of Gilgamesh, reminds them of how Enkidu has no brother and no family and it makes Enkidu sad. Gilgamesh hated seeing his friend hurt so he proposes they go fight the ferocious Humbaba, the mystical monster in the Forest of Cedar. Enkidu advises against going on the quest. From what he remembers living in the wild, no one would dare go fight Humbaba. Gilgamesh gives him a hard time stating Why my friend, do you speak like a weakling? With your spineless words you make me despondent (tablet II, 232 33). He then precedes to remind Enkidu of their strengths and that together Humbaba can be defeated. This is the start of their Epic destiny together. The journeys and battles they face really show the parallels between the two characters and how their personalities mesh together as if they were one person at times but also flipping roles in certain situations. • 22. Comparison Between Raphael And Leonardo Da Vinci s Last... Art is a conversation between the artist and the audience, and through which the artwork is the medium between both. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece, and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is the artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the audienceis time. Throughout history, this has been the case Raphael and his Galatea, and Leonardo da Vinciand his Last Supper but in more recent times,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which the industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through the intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any preconstructed view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as possible, Judd focuses the attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and particularly the piece. Of course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his views, from the work. Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are affecting the piece, I now consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and ... One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles credited to his or her name. If they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like Blessed Edmund Rice. When they get two miracles and they will in fact become a recognized saint in the Catholic Church. Part 2: St. Patrick Saint Patrick is one of the most well known saints in the Catholic Church. • 33. Macon, Georgia – We Made The Big Move At The Beginning Macon, Georgia We made the big move at the beginning of my senior year and I was around 16 at the time. I had all of my senior credits for school in Colorado because of advanced placement courses. But Texas had a whole new set of rules regarding graduation. There was a test called TAAS, which I was expected to take with less than a year of preparation, while the rest of the students had been raised and prepared for this test their entire school life. I knew that I would have academic obstacles because the curriculum was also different and most of it focused on southern issues that were new to me, such as FFA and welding courses as electives. My sister quickly found a spot among the it kids, while I stood back and observed trying to make sure she stayed clear of trouble. I had few if any peers who talked to me when not required. This school was a majority African American, so again I m not fitting in with the races because I talk and act differently (my dad made sure we spoke proper, no jargon all the time). There were teasing and name calling but I remained strong because I knew that my younger sister was getting the worse of the deal. She had to begin school the way she enrolled and things were so bad for her, that during her first week she got into multiple altercations with other students, some who were her blood relatives. I had no friends, more so enemies and my guard was always up because my cousins loved to get me in trouble, even when I had done nothing wrong. • 34. Ethical Issues In Emergency Management Involving stakeholders is not a very daunting task. To develop an effective emergency management system, the local emergency manager must involve all relevant stakeholders in the process (Lindell et al., 2007, p. 29). Communication with all stakeholders must be established. They have to understand that the emergency managementprocess belongs to them and that they have some control over the processes. These type of assertive communicationwill enable a good trusting relationship. Stakeholders are also very important in communicating information to the public. The public do not all heed emergency protocols the same way. Even programs that help the very same community has potential to hurt the community. While these public programs are effective in mitigating the disruptive impacts of disaster after effects, they may provide perverse incentives for individuals exposed to hazards (Davlasheridze, 2017, p. 95). Individuals who are given aid, resources, and other means to support their way of life may solely depend on these programs and not take steps to care for themselves. Low income groups on government welfare have tendency to remain in these programs for longer duration. Personal emergency preparedness is emerging as a complicated behavior that emergency... Essay on Humorous Wedding Speech by Brother of the Groom Humorous Wedding Speech by Brother of the Groom Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentleman It s my job to reply to the toast to the bridesmaids and in doing so, say a couple of nice things about George. You know, tell you about some of his good points. The problem is he doesn t have any good points. Well, except for being naturally gifted at sports. We do, after all, come from the same gene pull. So, on behalf of the bridesmaid, Claire, I would like to start by thanking George for his kind words. I am sure you will all agree that she looks wonderful today, as always. But in all seriousness, following in someone s footsteps is never easy, but the paths that my brother paved for me made it particularly difficult. A story I want to share with you about my dear brother took place about eight years ago. After a night on the tiles, George returned home and went straight to bed. After a short while, he started feeling a little bit nauseous and, in a moment of drunken clarity, opted to vomit out of his bedroom window. This isn t as foolish as it sounds, because the garage roof protruded under George s room. So, rather than stain his carpet and surely be caught in the morning, he hoped the roof and gutter would bear the brunt of the evidence of a very drunk young man until the following day, when it could easily be washed away. A great strategy you may think, but it had a one fatal flaw. The force with which George heaved far overshot both the garage roof and the gutter, but was just enough to land squarely on the windscreen of dad s car. • 36. Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And... We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles, problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring theme of Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within Interstellar and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they adapt to the force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling to certain things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a purpose again due to their struggle for survival. Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect their stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of her ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves their planet from extinction. • 37. Illegality Of Drugs Illegality of drugs (Legalize It All essay) For many decades there has been a continuous debate about legalizing drugs. The ongoing debate spotlights whether legalization would positively or negatively impact society. In the essay, Legalize It All, Baum argues that the legalization of drugs is the best way to prevent any drug related violence and addiction when the government regulates the drug usage and sales. I disagree with Baum s ideas on drug legality as I believe all drugs should remain illegal. I disagree with Baum s statement drugs should remain illegal. However, I do see strong benefits in drug regulation such as fewer children being involved in drugs as well as reduced crime rates. At this current time, 8:03 am, there must be at least two people doing drugs secretly out of fear of being arrested. Others do not do drugs for fear of the exact same thing but if drugs were to be made legal, more people would be inclined to become daily users and openly use them. Baum believes that through legalizing drugs, a number of addictions will be limited. He explained that although about half of all Americans older than twelve have tried an illegal drug, only 20 percent of those have used one in the past month. (pg 25) HALF OF ALL AMERICANS have tried an illegal drug the rest are either too scared to try an illegal drug or it goes against their ethics. If these drugs were legal, the number of Americans to try drugs would be greater due to the decrease in price and the easy accessibility. In Legalize It All, Baum explains that if we regulate drugs, we can prevent young children from doing drugs and decrease the amount of addicts in the city. Through my experience, I believe that the opposite of what Baum believes will occur. Take, for example, the regulations on cigarettes. Children that are younger than 18 are prohibited to smoke. However, on my way to school, I see many underaged teens smoking. This proves that regulations do not always work. Children are aware of the negative effects of tobacco yet they continue to smoke. The same goes for drinking alcohol. If we cannot regulate the use of cigarettes or alcohol, what is to say that the regulations on drugs will be successful? Baum has not thought out the ...
