brands that have award winning products. Making them an ideal place to purchase toys for any
special needs children. There is a Toys R Us ware house in almost every state, and there are over
683 stores nation wide. Making them easily accessible, and shipping has minimal difficulties, for
those who have busy schedules. Walmart super centers are very popular for housing name brand

are ideal for anyone with a mental disability, and allows the person using the toyto not only occupy
their time, but also recognize patterns, shapes, and other things that normal children are taught.
Toys are essential to any childhood, because it allows them t practice real world situations. For
example, if a little boy gets a fire station play set with little Firefighters, Fire trucks and a Fire
station, and he is shown how to play with the set, the boy will recognize that firemen are good,
and are supposed to help people. Even though the boy is playing, and using his own imagination,
he now recognizes that fire is bad, and it should be handled by Firemen. A better example rather

them is important. If the tables turned, and you yourself were in their shoes, wouldn t you want

The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act Of 2010
Individual Mandate a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.
Maria Colon Jones
Liberty University PPOL 501
May 9, 2016
Public policy is a system of laws, regulatory measures, a course of action by which a government
maintains order or addresses the needs of its citizens through actions defined by its constitution.
The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act is a great example of the power vested in the
government to establish laws that will assist in health care reform to provide coverage for many.
The PPACA was signed into law in March 2010 by President Barak Obama. This act represents a
major adjusting of the health care system in the United States. The Act affirms that everybody
should have some basic security when it comes to their health care. There have been many debates
and questions of the constitutionally of the health care law. The issue of the individual mandate is
one that was highly debated and objected by many. The individual mandate requires that all
individuals to purchase some minimally insurance policy or pay a penalty. Many feel that such a
policy represents a fundamental threat to liberty and an unprecedented leap of power by the federal
government and clearly unconstitutional. On June 28, 2012, in a 5 to 4 ruling the Supreme Court
upheld that President Obama s health care overhaul, indicating that it s a requirement that most
Americans obtain insurance or pay a penalty was authorized by Congress s

Essay On Child Advocacy
. Chairperson Report: Matt talks about the State and Federal levels, fairly amount of increase in
federal advocacy with opportunity and needs around children s issues since the elections, no
decrease in state level work. A lot of development around the state budget, plus federal work just
beginning and expecting a lot of federal efforts through the summer. 2 things Matt would like to
talk about from an organization standpoint of where we are going and how we work, also, Matt
would like feedback.
a) Council for a Strong America, better known as Fight Crime: Invest for Kids is a group of
members of Law Enforcement, Police Chiefs, Sheriffs, Prosecutors, etc. been very active in child

engaged on their own? It will be bad for Michigan s Children if this goes away.
f) Board Member: We don t have funds or liability to merge with them.
g) Matt: the 2nd thing that Matt would like to talk about the work we are doing around ACEs
(Adverse Childhood Experiences) a grant that focuses on public awareness, public education, and
approach to building awareness. We play a role in directing some public policy. Michele stated that
Michigan s Children have asked to co chair statewide advisory committee for ACEs project and
primarily training people around the state to better understand the impact of brain science, etc. The
way Michigan s Children look at our role has helped to notice people being trained.
5. Policy Update: State budget, we are right at the tail end of state budget process. The Governor
Snyder s proposal his budget and the legislatures have pushed for more cuts, plus lower budget
numbers than what the Governor has proposed to lower income taxes (that kind fell off) also,
Legislature s leaders want to end the pension for new teachers. Look like it will be some

How To Write An Essay On Billy The Kid
Billy the Kid was born William Henry McCarty Junior. on November 13, 1859 in New York,
New York. William was a healthy baby with a happy life for a short period of time. It is thought
that when William was very, very young his father, William Henry McCarty either died or left
William and his Mom. A few years later, William s mom, Catherine McCarty married Williams
stepfather, William Antrim. Billy the Kidhad a brother, Joseph McCarty, who went with Jo for
short, but it is unknown whether he was older or younger. Little is known about Billy the Kid s
childhood, but when he was fifteen years old Billy s mom, Catherine McCarty passed away
because of tuberculosis. This was a hard and difficult tragedy for the Billy and Joseph to get over,
considering that they never even met their father. After the McCarty brother s mom passed away

Law enforcement described Billy as slim, blond hair, and blue eyes. The one thing that was so
recognizable about Billy was his signature sugar loaf sombrero hat with a wide decorative band.
Someone in the gang that Billy was in, would not leave Billy alone and fought him all the time.
One day, Billy snapped and shot the person who he described as his bully. This was the first
person Billy killed, by the time Billy was twenty one, he had taken twenty one lives. One for
every year of his life. On the run from law enforcement both Billy and Joseph moved to Arizona
hoping the authorities would not recognize them. The brothers only lived in Arizona for a short
period of time and then they joined a gang of gunfighters. The gang of gunfighters was called The

Catcher In The Rye Isolation Quotes
By the end of the novel, Holden learns to accept society for what it is and accept the fact that
kids do not necessarily need his protection from society or any of its prejudices, judgements, or
expectations. This does not mean that he cannot help them, as he can stay there and be waiting for
them to at least reduce the pain undergone due to the aforementioned societal aspects whenever
they need his help. After a single day and a deep, meaningful, and serious talk with Mr. Antolini,
Holden adapts to fit this role ideally. When he is about to leave for Mr. Antolini s house, Holden
[takes] [his] hunting hat out of [his] coat pocket and [gives] it to [Phoebe]. She likes those kind of
crazy hats. She [does not] wantto take it, but [he] [makes] her. (Salinger, 198 199). Here, Holden
gives the hat to Phoebe in hopes that it will protect her from whatever societal harshness or
hardships she undergoes while he is at Mr. Antolini s house. This hunting hat jointly symbolizes
protectionand isolation. It is a way of isolating oneself from all of the phony people because as
Holden himself admits on multiple occasions, it is ugly and displeasing to the eye. This could
potentially be a way by which he tries to deter himself from all of the phoniness in the world. One
type of phonies are those who take everything at face value, and by wearing this hat, Holden deters
at least them. That could even be the reason why he likes this hat so much: the fact that it makes
him come into contact

Similarities Between Rome And The US
US and Rome have a lot of differences and similarities such as presidencies, voting and much more.
Rome and the US are similar and different from each other. There governments are almost similar
and the problems they faced are almost alike. They had many differences as well such as there
presidencies and there voting policies. They both treated there civilians very different than each
other. Letting one gender get more privileges and the other not getting the same abilities. Here are
some of there differences and similarities.
With all the differences and similarities, here is a difference. Rome and the US haves a different
voting policy, in Rome they only let the men vote and in the United States both men and women
are allowed to vote. Rome only lets men give there opinion on who can rule for them. In Rome, the
men had more privileges and abilities while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Roman Government they have two presidents while the US has one. Two presidents helps
stop the military corruption within Rome. They both get to decide on the militaries problems.
With Donald Trump being the president, it may be a good time to have 2 presidents as well.
Having two presidents would help solve the military issues. Maybe the US is almost the same as
the Roman Empire.
One major similarity between the US and Rome is there downfall. They had problems such as
inflation, social classes where the rich were getting even richer and the poor people are getting
even poorer as well as both governments were failing. Both had problems with inflation, meaning
that there was an increase in prices, and also the decrease of purchasing value of the money. When
inflation came, the bread in Rome cost more, and it became harder for the poor to buy things. That
is a sign of taxation, both Rome and the US started taxation so they could get money for there
failing

Comparsion of Jack London s The Call of the Wild and John...
This is the four line epigraph present on the first page of The Call of the Wild by Jack London.
Before you try to find how this section of Atavism by John Myers O Hara, relates to the theme
of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. Nomadic means moving around
and not staying in one place. O Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it
should say that your nomadic longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you
stay in one place for a long time, your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from place
to place (to be nomadic) are going to flare up. Chafing means to cause annoyance. By using the
phrase Chafing at custom s chain O Hara means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways.
Custom s chain refers to these traditional ways. Therefore the feelings to want to become nomadic
are clashing with the feelings of following traditions ways. Brumal means wintry. O Hara is using
this as a metaphor with the direct meaning being waking up from winterhibernation, but the deeper
meaning is the realization or awakening of the need to break away from traditional ways. Ferine
means wild and strain in this case means type. When O Hara uses ferine as an adjective to
describe strain, he is referring to the wild side we each have due to our natural instincts. All in all
Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom s chain; Again from its brumal sleep wakens the
ferine strain, means we are

Analysis Of The Film Cache ( French For Hidden And Racial...
Introduction This essay aims to analyze the representation of characters in the film CachГ©
(French for hidden , 2005) and the racial issues between the colonizer and the colonized through
the psychoanalysis of colonialism and post colonialism. I will first give a synopsis of the film.
Directed by Michael Haneke, CachГ© presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French
man, George, who receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of
an Algerian boy, Majid. Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on
17th Oct., 1961 when the French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his
parents, George s parents originally planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only
child in his family, he was afraid of letting Majid enter the family. He set up a lie by saying his
father wanted Majid to kill a rooster. George then claimed to his parents that Majid did this to
scare him; therefore George s parents sent Majid to an orphanage. About forty years later,
George, who has grown up and become a famous TV talk show host, lives with his wife and son
in the city. One day his wife, Anne, receives a videotape recording their current home for several
hours. They receive even more tapes with different recordings and threatening drawings of an odd,
curly haired little man and a rooster with its head cut off. George tries to find out who is behind
this and finds Majid. He accuses Majid of sending him the tapes as a threat;

Dorothea Lange Research Paper
Dorothea Lange
Have you ever heard of a photographer who impacted someone s life so great that they weren t
feeling stalled and stranded anymore? Well, Dorothea Lange was an innovative photographer who
made families not hurt anymore during the Great Depression, in the 1930s.
With her camera , she recorded and pictured the despair and uncertainty of the urban unemployed
and the poverty of the migrant families who lived in the roadside camps. She had a passion to
capture every one hurting in food, clothing, water, also Dorothea captured families trying to get
away during the Depression. Stated by William Albert Allard, The best pictures are often on the

She was very well known for the pictures taken of this mother and her ever so many kids. In the
Migrant Mother photo, Lange captured a mother sitting there with children wrapped around her ,
needy hungry, and eager for more. As the children were hungry the mother was having, the
children wrap around her like a shawl too big to crawl back in. She was stuck with nothing.
After the peas freeze on the vine, they feed on wild birds. Then they feed on dust. The statement
feed on dust can be looked at by Dorothea taking the pictures of Migrant Mother for the children
to be starving and have nothing. This mother that she photographed was looking for another way
for her and her children but it was useless and no where to go . The mother pictures were so
widely known and seen that she insisted on another photo, because she didn t want to be known as
one picture photographer. Many of Lange s photos borrow technique from the lexicon of
modernism. It was all very dramatic and dynamic in compositions. Langes techniques were both
neutral and detached. By, her remaining creative and off set, she put together great images showing
strength through suffering, She was daring and captured every detail she could. Lange would climb
to any extent to get the best shot of the landscaped and peoples desperations. Throughout her career
documenting the Great Depression, Lange took great pains to include detailed captions with her
photographer. Lange had an uncanny ability to put a subject of the subjects being photographed
during that time. She did whatever she could do to make the men , women, and children, to feel
comfortable with her and the camera. She felt that by speaking and spending time with them was
what she needed to do. Lange helped families stranded by only capturing their faces and sending
them into the city editor, which then she got thousands of supplies sent to migrants. Out in the

Cell Phone Radiation Essay
Purpose: My purpose is to provide information on cell phone radiation, the risks that can be caused
by cell phone radiation, and the potential health problems that could result from this. Details of the
topic: I am going to talk about the arguments about how cell phone radiation can affect our lives
and whether these arguments are accurate or not. Cell phone radiation is a type of electromagnetic
radiation that has the ability to cause health issues. The radiation from this device can cause serious
brain tumours, according to one study by Anna Lahkola of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety
Authority in Finland, which found that people who use their cell phone for more than 2000 hours
have a higher chance of getting a brain tumour. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cell phones/smart phones would be in the non ionizing category because they use a low to mid
frequency. In this diagram you can see the frequency for cell phones/smart phones is in the range
from 0 to 10В№Вє in hertz (Hz). Furthermore the group also mentioned that, even though the
frequency for non ionizing radiation is less dangerous, it is still possible to have side effects
that may affect to our personal lives. There was a class where at the end we had a very brief
discussion about radiation from electronics and the topic of cell phones/smart phones was brought
up by few students when they were asked about their opinion or personal experience. Some side
effects they mentioned from using their cell phones/smart phones constantly were having
problems falling asleep along with minor headaches. Reflection: This voluntary assignment helps
me because it provides some very interesting facts and debates about the side effects of cell phone
/smart phone radiation. In this course we have covered many different kinds of radiation, but we
have not talked a lot about the radiation from technology. We presume this kind of radiation is too
low to have serious effects on us. However, I remember that I actually had some problems when I
used my IPhone (smart phone) two years ago. For instance, I started out with a headache that turned

Sensory Division Research Paper
Sensory Input, Integration, and Motor Output Sensory receptors detect when a hot spoon touches
your skin which is caused by the sensory input. Once the receptors feel the input the nervous system
decides what to do about it; this is integration. Motor output is what is done about the input,
whether you scream or jerk away from the hot spoon. So the response that you get from the
integration is the motor output when is acts upon the body.
Central Nervous System
The central nervous system is made of the brain and spinal cord, where the brain is the control
center for integration and motor output.
Peripheral Nervous System
The PNS is all the nerves that come off of the brain and spine, acting as the communicator for the
rest of the body. The PNS can work in both directions.
Sensory Division
The afferent division, picks up sensory stimuli; telling the brain that something is happening to your
body. When the hot spoon touches your arm, the sensory division sends a message through the PNS
to the brain saying that s what s happening.
Motor Division
Also known as the efferent division, sends directions from your brain to the muscles and glands.
So when the hot spoon touches you and your sensory division sends the message of what s
happening, the brain will send back a signal making you move your arm away or scream.
Somatic Nervous System ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Autonomic Nervous System

Sympathetic Division
The sympathetic division mobilizes the body into action, so when the your brain sends the signal

Parasympathetic Division
This division calms the body down when you have something happen to it, as you scream and
move your arm away after the hot spoon has touched you, you think at least my arm isn t on fire.

Analysis Of The Poem Adrienne Rich
Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties.
Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce
rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at
twenty five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact
that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a
costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical
yet domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were
there the resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses
symbolism to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers
being hunted, in a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her
spouse.
The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably
weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza, Bright
topaz denizens of a world of green, (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that
includes brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that
a true Topaz is colorless. Denizens means a place or places so the author s meaning is, in a sense

Why Are The Inca Buildings Important
Inca s Buildings, and Tools
The Inca s tools and buildings were mainly made of stone, and a little bit of wood in their
buildings, but what is fascinating about them is how they built their houses. Stone tools were
important to the Incas life because wooden tools couldn t break stones, and their structures were
made of stone (limestone or/and granite). Since the stone buildings were important( Machu Picchu
or the city on the Andes mountains were also important), to the Incas way of life so it would be the

what made them stand and stay standing for so long without collapsing. The way the Incas made it

Growing crops in flat and fertile areas and hunting were important to the Inca, because without food,
they can t survive. They would keep their soil fertile, they used llama dung, which was one of the
animals they worshiped, along with Alpacas. And for hunting, they used spears to kill animals and
nets to catch them. So the farms and hunting will be shown around the center and the left and right
corners (crops on the left where the Inca village is, and the hunters will go somewhere around the
top left of the exhibit) of the exhibit. In order to have farming tools and weapons, they had to build

together with one another. They will be shown to the center front of the exhibit. Making clothes
were another job that some Inca had to do, because without clothes, they can get cold during winter.
The Incas made clothes using llama wool and animal skins. This could be shown somewhere around
the village, showing someone making/hanging clothes. Teaching was another important job.
Teaching helped children learn to talk, write, and learn to do many other things. Without it, children
would grow up not knowing how to communicate while working, writing, and not even knowing
how to do jobs. Teaching will be shown around where the mountains are, which will be

Cultural Competence In Social Work
Cultural competence is a major component in social work as it enables us to communicate
effectively with people of different background and cultures. (Suppes Wells, p. 79.) By definition,
culture is a universal phenomenon as it refers to family values, education, work, religion, success,
food, and social class. (NASW, p. 14.) In this paper, I will compare and contrast my own cultural
background with that of one of my best friends, Dawn Denny who happens to be a Guyanese.
Most Haitians place a great emphasis on family values regardless of their social status. While both
parents play a vital role in the family, the male is the dominant one, the head of the house,
despite the fact that the mother works, rears, cares for the children and maintains the house. It s
tremendously hard to get a job in Haiti as the labor industry is extremely bias, you not only need
to know someone from the inside, but it is also based on age and color of your skin. The
younger, the lighter the skin pigment, and the more likely it is to get hired. As a result of that,
women often struggle with sexual harassment in the work place. The probability of getting a job
without a college degree is very slim to none so therefore, a college education is crucial. A child
primary responsibility is to focus in school and get good grades until graduated college, but
because college tuition is so expensive, only the upper class can afford to send their kids to school.

Arranged Marriages Between Rochel And Nasira
Arranged is a beautiful presentation, of the everyday life of women in devoted religions, and
really portrays in the way they find choice in their religious devotion. So, while having the
freedom to write about whatever we wish upon while watching this film, I decided to base my
essay on the cultural relationship of arranged marriages between Rochel and Nasira; just two
women and their friendship.
Rochel who is an Orthodox Jew, and Nasira who is a Syrian descent Muslim, are both public
school teachers at a multi cultural school located in Brooklyn, New York. Both of the women begin
to realize that they have more in common with each other than they think. Rochel and Nasira are
going through an arranged marriage processes, in which they are both feeling religious and cultural
pressures from their families. Both women are presented with many choices for potential husbands;
however, ultimately, they choose whom they want to marry, as in any other marriage. Arranged
marriages should never be forced or pressured. On the other hand, one shouldn t criticize arranged
marriages as long as the people who are in them are okay with them. ... Show more content on

can end up in a horrible marriage if one or both of them choose during the marriage to adopt

Women Of An Amorous Woman
In his The Life of An Amorous Woman, Ihara Saikaku traces the demise of a woman whose
thoughts and actions were controlled by insatiable lust and sexual desire. She begins as a wife and
then progresses to a court lady in waiting, a concubine to a feudal lord, courtesan, priest s mistress,
brothel prostitute, and, finally a streetwalker. Though courtesans did not play a major role in
ancient Japan, by the seventeenth century, the courtesan class was sanctioned by the government to
the extent that official decrees created a separate district to enclose them and put up physical
boundaries that mirrored the division between them and traditional prostitutes. According to
Chesemore in her essay, Women of the Floating World, as in all areas of Japanese life, attention
was paid to the distinctions in the rank of the various inhabitants of this world, and clearly the
courtesan reigned supreme (Chesemore, 1990). Saikaku writes that, because of her beauty and
talent, she had her choice of men, and in the streets she walks with her head held high and does not
step aside for anyone. Far from the traditional Confucian genderroles, the amorous womancan
afford to be haughty, as she was showered with gifts and other luxuries. In Japanese society, at
the time when these works were created, the feminine sexuality of a wife and of a courtesan were
seen as two dichotomous roles that could not possibly be carried out by a single woman, at least
in an ideal world. While it is true many

The Threat Of The Taliban
When Obama was elected in 2008 one of his main goals was to end all war with Afghanistan.
Currently Obama has decided to keep the troops in Afghanistan until 2017, extending after his
removal from office. According to the New York Times, his decision against the removal is an
effort to counter terrorism attacks. Since 2001, after the attack on the twin towers, the US has been
trying to fight against terrorism. After the attack, Al Qaeda and Bin Laden both hid in Afghanistan,
making it a hideout for terrorists. Before 9/11, Bin Laden and Al Qaeda had formed relations with
the Taliban. Today Afghanistan is still unstable and is vulnerable to Isis. Afghani troops, are not

and NATO forces formally ended their long running combat mission in Afghanistan, which began in
the weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. That means the 2015 fighting season was the first time
Afghanistan s troops were officially tasked with defending their country with significantly reduced
help from the U.S. It s a test for which the Afghans have in recent months appeared ill equipped.
The US is currently playing a big role in Afghanistan, even with the 10,000 troops still there.
Multiple aspects are at stake when considering the troops withdrawal from Afghanistan. Isis is a
threat to America as well as a threat to Afghanistan. Even the Taliban doesn t agree with the
beliefs of Isis, they are much more extreme than those of the Taliban. If we can help Afghanistan
fight against Isis, we can help keep Isis from attacking the US. Within the past couple of days,
Isis attacked Paris and the whole world is scared, because it wasn t an attack on Paris it was an
attack on humanity itself. In the past there was also the aspect of oil that we could get from
Afghanistan, but now trying to fight Isis is the biggest factor. Another aspect is that Afghanistan
needs our help because we are the superpower. America is strong in everything military, socially
and politically, so it s our moral responsibility to help Afghanistan with Isis. It will also benefit the
US when Isis isn t a threat, because America won t be worried

Narrative Essay On The Eiffel Tower
I woke up thinking about the contest again, but I pushed it aside and got ready to go touring
again and today we were going to the Eiffel Tower. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in
a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding
and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we
found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same
time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first
floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally,
there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the
elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall,
twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was
perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could
say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i
wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in,
along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at
everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words
were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the
park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least
until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of
us because there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After
some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we
were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. We
wandered the hotel after we changed, to look at all the paintings and statues. It stopped raining after
a little while and we decided to go shopping around the boutiques, the look of the boutiques made

Dean Kamen Is The Entrepreneur Innovator Of The Slingshot...
Dean Kamen is the entrepreneur innovator of the slingshot technologies. Slingshot is a water
purification device invented by Mr. Kamen that is able to purify up to 97% of dirty water that is
literally unusable in the world today. This invention runs on very affordable means of energy;
uses combustible cow dung to operate and purify the water with immensely high accuracy levels.
Through this, Dean is able to clean dirty water with the inner drive of making the world a better
place for millions of people who lack clean water around several parts of the world, especially in
the developing countries. Innovationis motivated by a gap in the society. There exists an avoidable

Management of innovation requires one to set goals and lay out concrete plans. Dean never shied
away from this. In his presentation of the slingshot technology, he elaborately layout his plans for
inventing the technology saying that; he intended to have the technology solve the water problem
around the world. He wanted to eliminate more than 3.5 million people who die annually due to
lack of access to clean drinking water around the world as per the World Health Organization
report. Initially, the machine was costing high, but Dean was planning on how best to have the
machine capped down to affordable prices based on the principle of economy of scales. This was
to enable the majority of the poor households in the developing countries easily access the machine
s services, and thus, increase their chance of accessing clean drinkable water through purification of
the available dirty water. His plan still goes further by ensuring his water purification technology
got to all villages around the world just like the mobile phones technologies have done. Planning
remains an integral part of every innovation as its manager endeavors to having it serve its purpose
in addition to him reaping its benefits; hence, Dean s innovation is no exception in this managerial
process. Managing an innovation requires that an innovator controls and effectively manages

Emergency Plan Essay
8.Outline of emergency plans
The UK has two separate plans regarding influenza; the first is their pandemic plan; the second is
their annual influenza plan for seasonal influenza. The focus of each plan is broadly similar, and it
is to mitigate the impact of any influenza outbreak, epidemic or pandemic by: adequate surveillance
and detection of cases; prevention of infection using vaccination; treatment of high risk cases with
antivirals; and non pharmaceutical control of transmission by recommending hand and respiratory
hygiene, self isolation and limited use of face masks for health and social care workers. The
differences in the plans lie mainly with vaccination and the scope of the plans regarding control of

Local health authorities are responsible for delivery of healthcare aspects of the plan, including
vaccination and antiviral treatment, as well as local surveillance (DOH, 2011). However, the
impact of a pandemic will potentially be felt across every sector of society and thus the
pandemic plans extend to recommendations for all business and public sectors, including
essential services such as water/sewage, energy, education, food supplies and transport. They
also extend to the media as they have a role in disseminating information, and to
recommendations for Ministry of Defence (MOD) involvement to provide assistance if civil
capabilities are exceeded (DOH, 2011). Part 2 of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 allows for
emergency powers to be established in extreme situations and The Public Health (Control of
Disease) Act 1984 extends powers to the level of the individual allowing restrictions to be imposed
on an individual provided they are in the best interests of public health (DOH,

Big Trouble in Little Baltimore
The past one hundred and fifty years of Baltimore s history have included many turbulent
fluctuations in the way the city manages to thrive during the vast changes in how consumer related
products are manufactured. One of the most important ingredients to the city s prosperity is in a
mineral called chromite. Chromite is typically found in acidic soil along with serpentinite rock, a
dark green brittle rock in the soapstone family. During the late nineteenth century, chromite
suddenly became a hot commodity as it was discovered in abundance on what is now a federally
protected reserve called Soldier s Delight, located just northwest of BaltimoreCity. At that time, the
land was ripe for mining and chromite was found to be very versatile in the manufacturing of many
items that were, at that time, unavailable like yellow and red paint, tanned leather, bricks for firing
kilns, and, the most valuable use of all, chrome. The mining operation at Soldier s Delight suddenly
went full throttle during the early part of the twentieth century and Baltimore was seated in the
perfect location for transporting these new products to places all over the world due to its
connection to the Chesapeake Bay. However, the processing plant that received the mined chromite
was not conscientious enough with the oxidized discharge from the chromite and allowed it to seep
into the soil beneath the plant and enter into the groundwater. The effects were not known at the
time, but the plant was doing the

Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk...
Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of
conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of
the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to
progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different
approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the
understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about
the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his
book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American
Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles
into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical
approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of
the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius
of American Politics . This book helped explain the American Revolution as a means of theory
failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians exaggerate on certain events or
people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration of Independence and
Thomas Jefferson. He sees the American Revolution results were a positive advance

Rise Of Buddhism Research Paper
The fifth and fourth centuries B.C. were times of a worldwide intellectual renaissance. It was an
age of great thinkers, thinkers like Socrates and Plato, Confucius and Lao Tzu. In India, it was the
age of the Buddha Shakyamuni, or simply the Buddha, after whose death a religion emerged that
eventually spread far beyond the reaches of its homeland. In order to understand Buddhismand its
art we must first know who the Buddha was.
Siddhartha Gautama, who later became known as the Buddha, was born as a prince to the royal
family of Kapilavastu, whose kingdom was located in the Himalayan foothills. At the time of his
birth, sages predicted that he would become a universal conqueror, a conqueror of either the
physical world or of men s minds. It was the latter conquest that came to pass. Giving up the
pleasures of the palace Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first
attempted the path of severe asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile
exercise. He then sat down in yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved
enlightenment. He was known henceforth as the Buddha, or Enlightened One.
Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where
people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist
art. At first these stupas were simple structures shaped like rounded mounds meant to represent the
curving form of the universe.

Significance Of The Age Of Exploration
Why did exploration begin?
In the past Spain, age of exploration, spices and other imported goods from Asia was the symbol of
how wealth they were. Therefore, lots of traders seek for trading routes through land. However, It
wasn t easy because of the capability of Ottoman Empire. After they bewitched the Constantinople
in 1453, they blocked the route from Europe to Asia, which limited the amount of trading.
Subsequently traders were forced to search for another route, which is the sea route. Though,
exploring needed funding for ships, crews and supplies. Only countries that had strong monarchy
were able to take the risk of funding a big amount of money, even there was no guarantee that the
ship sufficiently returns to them. King and Queen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a trading of slave, which includes the participants from America, Europe and Africa. It occurred
in Atlantic Ocean between middle of 15th to end of 19th centuries. Africans were traded as a
slave in exchange of goods imported from other country, such as alcohol, iron, tobacco, rum,
gunpowder, clothes, beer and guns. Countries traded slaves due to their needs of workers in
harvesting goods, for instance sugar cane, raw material, cotton, tobacco, and coffee. Those
slaves who worked for farming or producing goods were called field slave. Some enslaved
Africans were worked as house slave, who did the task such as butler, maid, and chef. Around 12
to 15 millions of Africans were traded during this period. However, lots died in the middle of

Americans, although African slaves were cheaper and had less risk to be escaped due to African s
empty knowledge about geography in Americas and Europe. Other European country and Americas

Democracy In America Chapter Summaries
I have recently read your novel Democracy in America, and as one of the founding fathers of
America, I would like to give you my input. I have my own ideas on how our democracy should
be run and can see that we both share similar and contrasting beliefs specifically in relation to the
chapter in your novel, Unlimited Power of the Majority in the United States, and Its Consequences .
Based off of this chapter, I can see that you believe in the majority having a right for freedom and
the possibility of political tyranny with too much power in the majority. Well, I myself share this
ideal as expressed in my Federalist papers. I see that we both fear that the social tyranny would
pose a great threat on political power. I think this is because of the entire political minorities were
changing especially the regulation against the wealthy. Yet, my main fear on this issue is about...

You also suggest that only God was perfect to exercise such powers, not people and that tyranny
became present when total authority was presented to any power. You recognize the dangers that
could come ahead, including the case in which free American institution could be destroyed
resulting in the anxiety of the minorities. Another main point I have observed in your writing
pertains to how public opinions are perceived and their effect on the population. Unlike in noble
civilizations, public opinions were seen as genuine rather than credited in turn having an immense
deal of ethical force. You relate this to America in explaining how the governmentis greatly
controlled by the majority s wants rather than making independent decisions in best interest of the
country s needs. I can see that your main point is in revealing that the concerns of the majority are
preferred over those of the minority as based off the idea of the moral authority of the

Persuasive Essay On Sports Injury
Tendonitis, concussions, shin splints, torn ACL s, pulled groin muscles, sprained ankles,
dislocations, and torn rotator cuffs are just a some of the many injuries you can receive while
participating in any type of sport. Many athletes injuries start small, and escalate depending on
how hard and how often the person works. This leaves two of the biggest decisions for injured
athletes. One, knowing when to stop before they hurt themselves more. Two, deciding when to
get come back. Even after surgeries, physical therapy, and time off, these can be two of the
hardest decisions an athlete can make after being injured. For some athletes, sports can be a
good way to cope with stress. When they hit the court or the field, they feel as if all of their
worries from that day vanish. But for others, sports can be how a person identifies his or herself

First, it affects the performance of the health care by increasing service demand since most of
mental disorders require complex intervention. Besides, the treatment of these numerous disorders
will bring in a strain within the health care center, thus declining the health services efficiency.
Moreover, it results in crowding out affects within the hospitals as some patients with severe mental
disorders will need to stay longer in the hospital. Consequently, this creates more demand for
hospital beds and related services. Mental illness increases health care expenditure since hospitals
incurs extra cost in hiring therapist, psychiatrist, etc. (Olesen et al., 2012). Besides, the health
systems suffer more cost in organizing awareness campaigns. On the other hand, the CDC is

Synthesizing Triphenylmethanol Using A Grignard Reagent
The objective of this experiment is to synthesize triphenylmethanol using a Grignard reagent. A

in Mechanism 1, it is formed by reacting an alkyl halide, in this case a bromide (bromobenzene),
with magnesium metal in anhydrous ether. During the preparation of the Grignard reaction,
another by product, biphenyl, will be formed; this is caused from the rapid addition of
bromobenzene to the Grignard reagent solution. However, the by product will later be removed
with petroleum ether. It is also important to have no traces of water as the Grignard reagent is very

Cities are the dwellings and ideal examples of how our world is shaped and impacted through the
flow of people from around the world. Within these cities, urban culture and economies emerge,
grow and branch out. From deindustrialization to the creation of urban culture and hip hop or the
impact of immigrants on the country they choose to reside in, these are the factors that reflect
globalization both in the United Statesand abroad as well as perpetuate it. As manufacturing
intensified from World War II, so was the flock of U.S. citizens to the larger cities. The spike in
industrialization meant more jobs in large cities where the factories were located. This was
Keynesianism in full effect, more employment, more spending. What happened... Show more

Fax machines, satellite network beepers, cordless phones, electronic mail networks, cable
television expansions, VCRs, compact discs, video camera and games, and personal computers
have dramatically transformed the speed and character of speech, written and visual
communication (Rose, 30). With information processing and communication moving forward
with these devices, technology was lying at the heat of the corporate America hip hop was able
to not only spread across the country, but globally. An example of this would be Music
Television, more commonly known as MTV, where people from all around the world could watch
a music video of Grandmaster Flashand (a Barbasdos native) Sugar Hill Gang rap about their
struggles living in New York cityalong with what back then was basic video technology. A strong
point that can be taken from a man like Grandmaster Flash from the West Indies is that countries
and it s people can make an impact on America based on their culture, traditions and values and
vise versa. A poll was taken in America examining four traits that are associated with Asian and
Latin American immigrants work ethic, competitiveness, interest in school, and family values
(Desipio and de la Garza, 128). The results showed positive feedback for both groups including a
substantial amount of, agreeing, votes in regard to Asians doing very well

Dr Strange Psychology
Doctor Strange, a very strange movie indeed, and if you like mystery, magic, and a multiverse
with different dimensions then this is the right movie for you. Doctor Strange is part of the Marvel
universe, which includes Thor, Captain America, Hulk, and Iron Man. While the Avengers protect
the world from physical threats, this movie takes us to a whole new level of mystical threats, much
more dangerous than the threats within our world itself, consisting of very powerful characters and
ancient magic. We are introduced to a much bigger reality which we learn is also protected by a
different group of people that no normal human being knows of. While Doctor Strangegets in a fatal
car accident, he faces many tough choices and learns of ancient... Show more content on

From my perspective, they did a very great job using all these special film techniques, especially
in a movie that s all about magic and strange things. There was a scene where Doctor Strange
was endlessly falling and it feels like a rollercoaster if you watch it on a big screen, and it was
very enjoyable. There was a lot of nice architectural designs and different ideas of unique universes
and realms that open up your mind about our universe itself. There was a great choice of music
that pulls you in and puts you in a certain mood depending on the situation, whether it was
dramatic or a certain plot twist. Overall, they did a great job producing this film and the special

Victims Rights Movement
The victims rights movement here in the United States was driven by multiple social forces and
events which resulted in the victim movement. Mainly it was fueled by the cultural environment
created by the civil rights movement, anti war movements, the women s movement, and the law
and order movement. The Civil Rights movement was a huge power source for the victims rights
movement. The movement changed the United Statesview of civil disobedience and created a
culture focused on fair treatment of all people. It assisted in instituting the principle that
constitutional rights should apply to all citizens. The antiwar movement produced grassroots
organizations. These organizations would provoke concern towards sexual assault, domestic

The NCVS collects data on all crimes including those not reported. These crimes could have been
subject to an individual or a household. They survey households in a sample for three years and
then new households are rotated in. Each year, data are obtained from a nationally representative
sample of about 135,000 households, composed of nearly 225,000 persons (Planty, Langton,
Barnett Ryan). The survey gathers detailed information on crimes including: rape, sexual assault,
aggravated and simple assault, burglarization of a household, personal robbery, and grand theft
auto. Additional information collected includes: age, sexs, races, relationship status, educational
level, income, approximate age of offender, relationship to the victim, where and when was the
crime committed, and how the victim was effected. The UCR collects their data using 22
categories provided by National Incident Based Reporting System to create an annual report titled,
Crime in the United States. These categories cover much of what the NCVS covers and then some.
The UCR Program compiles crime data from law enforcement agencies and presents crime counts
for the nation, regions, states, and cities ( Therapeutic Approaches for Sexually Abused Children
and Adolescents ). These reports proceed from monthly law enforcement reports, individual crime
incident records, and

Human Beings Have a Right to Die Essay
Do people have the right to die? Is there, in fact, a right to die? Assisted suicide is a controversial
topic in the public eye today. Individuals choose their side of the controversy based on a number
of variables ranging from their religious views and moral standings to political factors. Several
aspects of this issue have been examined in books, TV shows, movies, magazine articles, and other
means of bringing the subject to the attention of the public. However, perhaps the best way to look
at this issue in the hopes of understanding the motives behind those involved is from the perspective
of those concerned: the terminally ill and the disabled.

In the nursing home, they are understaffed, and do not have the proper understanding of your
condition to care for you as you need to be. Instead, you are left to lie in bed day after day, unable
to use anything but your mind.
Once having a mere glimpse into the lives of the terminally ill or disabled, some are able to
understand their plight; but usually most are not. In most cases, these people are able to take
what they ve been given and deal with it. However, in some cases, some simply can not tolerate
their lives as they are. They feel that the only solution to their problem is to end their lives.
Unfortunately, in some cases, the terminally ill or disabled are not capable of accomplishing this
task by themselves, and are left trapped in a life that they do not want. In these cases, when one
wishes to end his life and is terminally ill, disabled, or otherwise unable to do so independently, he
should have the right to die by assisted suicide. Although most people that are terminally ill or
disabled do not wish to end their lives, there are still those few who do. While examining the issue
of assisted suicide, three facets of the controversy must be considered: the political, the moral, and
the human or compassionate views. By supporting their decision, we support their right to choose
and decide what they want to do with their bodies and their lives, we do not

Lincoln and the Republicans
The Civil War was a war that was fought over the civil and humane treatment of every person,
regardless of their outward appearances. It left a scathing scar on the nation After the atrocities that
were suffered in the Civil war, the nation need a way to heal it s wounds and unite again. Lincoln
had a battle of his own to fight within the congress for the Reconstruction of the nation, While
Lincoln believed that the south had suffered enough and had a long road to recovery, the radical
republicans wanted to punish the south. They believed that the act of secession by the southern
states was treason and the penalties should be strict. Lincoln s plan was amiable and compassionate.
He wanted to unite the states swiftly with little... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, according to Johnson, any finances that had been borrowed for the cause of fighting could
not be repaid. Both of the positions on Reconstruction are not without merit. Each one wanted a
pledge of unity from the Confederacy to ensure that secession would not happen. The country
would not survive another separation. The republican also had a respectable view in that the
country was formed as the United States of America. Yet, the south seceded when they felt
threatened. Their proposals were harsh with good reasoning to back it as if the majority of a state
agrees then there is less chance of the state seceding or not keeping the oaths that were made.
Lincoln just wanted the country to get the country going again quickly because it had practically
ground to a halt because of the war. Little did Lincoln know that the battle for the freedmen would
continue for generations.

Personal Culture And My Family Culture Essay
While looking upon my personal culture and my family s culture in an attempt to find appropriate
dishes for this assignment, it became apparent to me that I have no definite culture. Whereas I have
lived in Canada my whole life, my family s background has engaged me in varying cultures, though
I have never felt truly attuned to one culture. On the other hand, my father is a first generation
Canadian, his parents both from Scotland. Though aware of my Scottish origins and my
grandparents migration to Canada, Scottish culture has never been explicitly celebrated amongst
those in my family. Furthermore, my family previously migrated from Ireland during the Irish
famine, resulting in Irish culture to also represented in my family s culture. Variously, my
mother s side of the family has lived in Canada for many generations, but I do not consider
myself as being authentically Canadian. Accordingly, throughout my childhood, I was never
encouraged to celebrate an explicit culture. Furthermore, religion was never prominent in my life
either, as my parents decided against baptizing any of my siblings and me, as per the family
tradition, because they wished for us to have religious freedom. However, because of the rest of
my family s religion, as well as my background, my family has always celebrated Christian
holidays, though I have never been to church for a reason other than a wedding. I find that without
any cultural ties from my family s history and practices, that the cultureI

Maria Colon Jones Liberty University PPOL 501 May 9, 2016 Public policy is a system of laws, regulatory measures, a course of action by which a government maintains order or addresses the needs of its citizens through actions defined by its constitution. The Act affirms that everybody should have some basic security when it comes to their health care. There have been many debates and questions of the constitutionally of the health care law. The issue of the individual mandate is one that was highly debated and objected by many. The individual mandate requires that all individuals to purchase some minimally insurance policy or pay a penalty. Many feel that such a policy represents a fundamental threat to liberty and an unprecedented leap of power by the federal government and clearly unconstitutional. • 6. Catcher In The Rye Isolation Quotes By the end of the novel, Holden learns to accept society for what it is and accept the fact that kids do not necessarily need his protection from society or any of its prejudices, judgements, or expectations. This does not mean that he cannot help them, as he can stay there and be waiting for them to at least reduce the pain undergone due to the aforementioned societal aspects whenever they need his help. After a single day and a deep, meaningful, and serious talk with Mr. Antolini, Holden adapts to fit this role ideally. When he is about to leave for Mr. Antolini s house, Holden [takes] [his] hunting hat out of [his] coat pocket and [gives] it to [Phoebe]. She likes those kind of crazy hats. She [does not] wantto take it, but [he] [makes] her. (Salinger, 198 199). Here, Holden gives the hat to Phoebe in hopes that it will protect her from whatever societal harshness or hardships she undergoes while he is at Mr. Antolini s house. This hunting hat jointly symbolizes protectionand isolation. It is a way of isolating oneself from all of the phony people because as Holden himself admits on multiple occasions, it is ugly and displeasing to the eye. This could potentially be a way by which he tries to deter himself from all of the phoniness in the world. One type of phonies are those who take everything at face value, and by wearing this hat, Holden deters at least them. That could even be the reason why he likes this hat so much: the fact that it makes him come into contact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Comparsion of Jack London s The Call of the Wild and John... This is the four line epigraph present on the first page of The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Before you try to find how this section of Atavism by John Myers O Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. Nomadic means moving around and not staying in one place. O Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place for a long time, your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from place to place (to be nomadic) are going to flare up. Chafing means to cause annoyance. By using the phrase Chafing at custom s chain O Hara means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways. Custom s chain refers to these traditional ways. Therefore the feelings to want to become nomadic are clashing with the feelings of following traditions ways. Brumal means wintry. O Hara is using this as a metaphor with the direct meaning being waking up from winterhibernation, but the deeper meaning is the realization or awakening of the need to break away from traditional ways. Ferine means wild and strain in this case means type. When O Hara uses ferine as an adjective to describe strain, he is referring to the wild side we each have due to our natural instincts. All in all Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom s chain; Again from its brumal sleep wakens the ferine strain, means we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction This essay aims to analyze the representation of characters in the film CachГ© (French for hidden , 2005) and the racial issues between the colonizer and the colonized through the psychoanalysis of colonialism and post colonialism. I will first give a synopsis of the film. Directed by Michael Haneke, CachГ© presents the story of a bourgeois, middle aged French man, George, who receives anonymous tapes. This makes him recall his childhood memory of an Algerian boy, Majid. Majid s parents worked in George s house but died in the massacre on 17th Oct., 1961 when the French police killed more than 200 Algerians. After Majid lost his parents, George s parents originally planned to adopt him. However, as George was the only child in his family, he was afraid of letting Majid enter the family. He set up a lie by saying his father wanted Majid to kill a rooster. George then claimed to his parents that Majid did this to scare him; therefore George s parents sent Majid to an orphanage. About forty years later, George, who has grown up and become a famous TV talk show host, lives with his wife and son in the city. One day his wife, Anne, receives a videotape recording their current home for several hours. They receive even more tapes with different recordings and threatening drawings of an odd, curly haired little man and a rooster with its head cut off. George tries to find out who is behind this and finds Majid. He accuses Majid of sending him the tapes as a threat; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well, Dorothea Lange was an innovative photographer who made families not hurt anymore during the Great Depression, in the 1930s. With her camera , she recorded and pictured the despair and uncertainty of the urban unemployed and the poverty of the migrant families who lived in the roadside camps. In the Migrant Mother photo, Lange captured a mother sitting there with children wrapped around her , needy hungry, and eager for more. As the children were hungry the mother was having, the children wrap around her like a shawl too big to crawl back in. She was stuck with nothing. After the peas freeze on the vine, they feed on wild birds. Then they feed on dust. The statement feed on dust can be looked at by Dorothea taking the pictures of Migrant Mother for the children to be starving and have nothing. This mother that she photographed was looking for another way for her and her children but it was useless and no where to go . The mother pictures were so widely known and seen that she insisted on another photo, because she didn t want to be known as one picture photographer. Many of Lange s photos borrow technique from the lexicon of modernism. It was all very dramatic and dynamic in compositions. Langes techniques were both neutral and detached. By, her remaining creative and off set, she put together great images showing strength through suffering, She was daring and captured every detail she could. Lange would climb to any extent to get the best shot of the landscaped and peoples desperations. Throughout her career documenting the Great Depression, Lange took great pains to include detailed captions with her photographer. Lange had an uncanny ability to put a subject of the subjects being photographed during that time. She did whatever she could do to make the men , women, and children, to feel comfortable with her and the camera. She felt that by speaking and spending time with them was what she needed to do. Lange helped families stranded by only capturing their faces and sending them into the city editor, which then she got thousands of supplies sent to migrants. Out in the ... Cell phone radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation that has the ability to cause health issues. Once the receptors feel the input the nervous system decides what to do about it; this is integration. Motor output is what is done about the input, whether you scream or jerk away from the hot spoon. So the response that you get from the integration is the motor output when is acts upon the body. Central Nervous System The central nervous system is made of the brain and spinal cord, where the brain is the control center for integration and motor output. Peripheral Nervous System The PNS is all the nerves that come off of the brain and spine, acting as the communicator for the rest of the body. The PNS can work in both directions. Sensory Division The afferent division, picks up sensory stimuli; telling the brain that something is happening to your body. When the hot spoon touches your arm, the sensory division sends a message through the PNS to the brain saying that s what s happening. Motor Division Also known as the efferent division, sends directions from your brain to the muscles and glands. • 13. Analysis Of The Poem Adrienne Rich Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at twenty five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse. The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza, Bright topaz denizens of a world of green, (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is colorless. • 16. Cultural Competence In Social Work Cultural competence is a major component in social work as it enables us to communicate effectively with people of different background and cultures. (Suppes Wells, p. 79.) By definition, culture is a universal phenomenon as it refers to family values, education, work, religion, success, food, and social class. (NASW, p. 14.) In this paper, I will compare and contrast my own cultural background with that of one of my best friends, Dawn Denny who happens to be a Guyanese. Most Haitians place a great emphasis on family values regardless of their social status. While both parents play a vital role in the family, the male is the dominant one, the head of the house, despite the fact that the mother works, rears, cares for the children and maintains the house. It s tremendously hard to get a job in Haiti as the labor industry is extremely bias, you not only need to know someone from the inside, but it is also based on age and color of your skin. The younger, the lighter the skin pigment, and the more likely it is to get hired. As a result of that, women often struggle with sexual harassment in the work place. The probability of getting a job without a college degree is very slim to none so therefore, a college education is crucial. She begins as a wife and then progresses to a court lady in waiting, a concubine to a feudal lord, courtesan, priest s mistress, brothel prostitute, and, finally a streetwalker. Though courtesans did not play a major role in ancient Japan, by the seventeenth century, the courtesan class was sanctioned by the government to the extent that official decrees created a separate district to enclose them and put up physical boundaries that mirrored the division between them and traditional prostitutes. According to Chesemore in her essay, Women of the Floating World, as in all areas of Japanese life, attention was paid to the distinctions in the rank of the various inhabitants of this world, and clearly the courtesan reigned supreme (Chesemore, 1990). Saikaku writes that, because of her beauty and talent, she had her choice of men, and in the streets she walks with her head held high and does not step aside for anyone. Far from the traditional Confucian genderroles, the amorous womancan afford to be haughty, as she was showered with gifts and other luxuries. In Japanese society, at the time when these works were created, the feminine sexuality of a wife and of a courtesan were seen as two dichotomous roles that could not possibly be carried out by a single woman, at least in an ideal world. Since 2001, after the attack on the twin towers, the US has been trying to fight against terrorism. We headed out at 10:00am and drove there in a cab, we arrived and the view from our room was no match to the real deal, it was outstanding and a lot bigger than I imaged too. We got in line for tickets and it didn t take to long, so we found our tour guide, so that she could take us up in it, I was nervous and excited at the same time because I don t like heights, but I do love scenery. We went up in an elevator to the first floor or the first platform and let me tell you,it was as beautiful as a thousand roses, literally, there was thousands of roses everywhere, it was magnificent. After a while we got back on the elevator to go to the top and on the way up the tour guide told us that it is about 108 floor tall, twice the size of the one is Vegas. The elevator stopped and we stepped out. The breeze was perfect and so was the weather, we walked out to a telescope and plopped in a quarter. All I could say was wow, my mom and dad were almost speechless too. Once we got up there I realized i wasn t afraid anymore, hopefully the contest was going to be the same way, I took it all in, along with a thousand photos my mom took of us and everything else. We kept looking at everything, it was like nothing I ve ever experienced before, it was perfect and so delicate, words were not enough to explain it. The city was busy and all the cars and people looked like ants, the park around us was perfect, the grass, the trees everything seemed so perfect around us, at least until it started to pour rain. We ran into the elevator and luckily there was enough room for all of us because there were people who didn t get in and i was sure they were drenched by now. After some time we got to the bottom and ran to our cab as fast as cheetahs, but it didn t matter, we were drenched as well. We got in our cab and drove to our hotel to change and dry off. Big Trouble in Little Baltimore The past one hundred and fifty years of Baltimore s history have included many turbulent fluctuations in the way the city manages to thrive during the vast changes in how consumer related products are manufactured. One of the most important ingredients to the city s prosperity is in a mineral called chromite. Chromite is typically found in acidic soil along with serpentinite rock, a dark green brittle rock in the soapstone family. During the late nineteenth century, chromite suddenly became a hot commodity as it was discovered in abundance on what is now a federally protected reserve called Soldier s Delight, located just northwest of BaltimoreCity. At that time, the land was ripe for mining and chromite was found to be very versatile in the manufacturing of many items that were, at that time, unavailable like yellow and red paint, tanned leather, bricks for firing kilns, and, the most valuable use of all, chrome. The mining operation at Soldier s Delight suddenly went full throttle during the early part of the twentieth century and Baltimore was seated in the perfect location for transporting these new products to places all over the world due to its connection to the Chesapeake Bay. However, the processing plant that received the mined chromite was not conscientious enough with the oxidized discharge from the chromite and allowed it to seep into the soil beneath the plant and enter into the groundwater. • 27. Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk... Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . Giving up the pleasures of the palace Siddhartha went on to seek the true purpose of life, Siddhartha first attempted the path of severe asceticism, only to abandon his efforts after six years, as it was a futile exercise. He then sat down in yogic meditation beneath a banyan tree until he achieved enlightenment. He was known henceforth as the Buddha, or Enlightened One. Upon his death the Buddha requested that he be cremated and a memorial be built at a place where people can gather. These memorials, which are known as Stupas, are the first example of Buddhist art. Within these cities, urban culture and economies emerge, grow and branch out. From deindustrialization to the creation of urban culture and hip hop or the impact of immigrants on the country they choose to reside in, these are the factors that reflect globalization both in the United Statesand abroad as well as perpetuate it. As manufacturing intensified from World War II, so was the flock of U.S. citizens to the larger cities. The spike in industrialization meant more jobs in large cities where the factories were located. This was Keynesianism in full effect, more employment, more spending. What happened... There was a scene where Doctor Strange was endlessly falling and it feels like a rollercoaster if you watch it on a big screen, and it was very enjoyable. There was a lot of nice architectural designs and different ideas of unique universes and realms that open up your mind about our universe itself. There was a great choice of music that pulls you in and puts you in a certain mood depending on the situation, whether it was dramatic or a certain plot twist. • 43. Human Beings Have a Right to Die Essay Do people have the right to die? Is there, in fact, a right to die? Assisted suicide is a controversial topic in the public eye today. Individuals choose their side of the controversy based on a number of variables ranging from their religious views and moral standings to political factors. Several aspects of this issue have been examined in books, TV shows, movies, magazine articles, and other means of bringing the subject to the attention of the public. However, perhaps the best way to look at this issue in the hopes of understanding the motives behind those involved is from the perspective of those concerned: the terminally ill and the disabled. In the nursing home, they are understaffed, and do not have the proper understanding of your condition to care for you as you need to be. Instead, you are left to lie in bed day after day, unable to use anything but your mind. Once having a mere glimpse into the lives of the terminally ill or disabled, some are able to understand their plight; but usually most are not. In most cases, these people are able to take what they ve been given and deal with it. However, in some cases, some simply can not tolerate their lives as they are. They feel that the only solution to their problem is to end their lives. Unfortunately, in some cases, the terminally ill or disabled are not capable of accomplishing this task by themselves, and are left trapped in a life that they do not want. In these cases, when one wishes to end his life and is terminally ill, disabled, or otherwise unable to do so independently, he should have the right to die by assisted suicide. Although most people that are terminally ill or disabled do not wish to end their lives, there are still those few who do. While examining the issue of assisted suicide, three facets of the controversy must be considered: the political, the moral, and the human or compassionate views. It left a scathing scar on the nation After the atrocities that were suffered in the Civil war, the nation need a way to heal it s wounds and unite again. Lincoln had a battle of his own to fight within the congress for the Reconstruction of the nation, While Lincoln believed that the south had suffered enough and had a long road to recovery, the radical republicans wanted to punish the south. They believed that the act of secession by the southern states was treason and the penalties should be strict. Lincoln s plan was amiable and compassionate. Lastly, according to Johnson, any finances that had been borrowed for the cause of fighting could not be repaid. Both of the positions on Reconstruction are not without merit. Each one wanted a pledge of unity from the Confederacy to ensure that secession would not happen. The country would not survive another separation. The republican also had a respectable view in that the country was formed as the United States of America. Yet, the south seceded when they felt threatened. Their proposals were harsh with good reasoning to back it as if the majority of a state agrees then there is less chance of the state seceding or not keeping the oaths that were made. Lincoln just wanted the country to get the country going again quickly because it had practically ground to a halt because of the war. Little did Lincoln know that the battle for the freedmen would continue for generations. Works Cited Chapter 22: The Ordeal of Reconstruction. (n.d.). AP Studynotes. Personal Culture And My Family Culture Essay While looking upon my personal culture and my family s culture in an attempt to find appropriate dishes for this assignment, it became apparent to me that I have no definite culture. Whereas I have lived in Canada my whole life, my family s background has engaged me in varying cultures, though I have never felt truly attuned to one culture. On the other hand, my father is a first generation Canadian, his parents both from Scotland. Though aware of my Scottish origins and my grandparents migration to Canada, Scottish culture has never been explicitly celebrated amongst those in my family. Furthermore, my family previously migrated from Ireland during the Irish famine, resulting in Irish culture to also represented in my family s culture. Variously, my mother s side of the family has lived in Canada for many generations, but I do not consider myself as being authentically Canadian. Accordingly, throughout my childhood, I was never encouraged to celebrate an explicit culture. Furthermore, religion was never prominent in my life either, as my parents decided against baptizing any of my siblings and me, as per the family tradition, because they wished for us to have religious freedom. However, because of the rest of my family s religion, as well as my background, my family has always celebrated Christian holidays, though I have never been to church for a reason other than a wedding. I find that without any cultural ties from my family s history and practices, that the cultureI ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
