Essay On The Bush Doctrine Essay On The Bush Doctrine
The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness
Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification
and shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us
pleasure, and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting
everything their way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In
order to obtain these things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line.
Many believe that with money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an
extent, sometimes the desires eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable
things life has to offer.
Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down
the road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well
being, they would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling
abroad. But in reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time
engaged in experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and
Happiness in an Era of Excess:
Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay.
All of us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and
taking shorter vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have

After The Deluge Theme
The theme of actions have consequences are presented in both After the Deluge and all of the
flood myths we read. These stories have the same theme because some of the same concepts
happen in the stories such as everything being taken or destroyed, and the character being able
to live after destruction. Water line, a parched land where water is a god that doles its favors by
the drop, and waiting is a way of life. Rebellion gleamed yet faintly in his eye traversing chrome
and platinum retreats. The dictator s actions led to many different things but using his fortune for
his own and being selfish is what led to most conflict. Yet he did help out with his people but it

Best NBA Player
Wow, this 2016 17 NBA regular was tremendous for the NBA world. From LeBron becoming an
explosive player again to Russel Westbrook having an amazing triple double run. In order for
him to have surpassed the legend he need to tweak the team chemistry and player like a player
who has a unique usage for a team. I just wonder what the locker room has to be like when Russ
wins the game for his team along with getting season awards such as player of the week. I have
so many wonders, but Russel Westbrooks play this season is the most intriguing that I have.
This season Russel Westbrook averaged a triple double and surpassed Oscar Roberson for most
triple doubles in a season with forty three. He averaged 31 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In
order for him to have been able to average a triple double this season had to at least have one in
forty one of the eighty two season games. Since Russ has achieved an honor that seemed unable
to fully commit to, because of how long the season is he is the 2016 17 regular season most
valuable player[mvp]. Earlier during the season he received plenty of player of the week awards

Even more now this year because Kevin Durant decided to leave and got to the Golden State
Warriors. His teammate trust him so much because in hear nine year career span with them[
drafted by supersonics] he has proven to be clutch and has all the skills necessary to carry the
team. He can be a ball hog and try to score all the points , but instead he passes the ball and that s
why the chemistry on and off the court is so good. He treats his teammates like brothers, even
though he only has one real brother Raynard Westbrook. The urge to win that Russ has is so
great that he puts aside all his pity and do all he can to bring home a championship, even though
now he can t because his team just lose to the Rockets in the first five games of a best out of

Inward FDI and Innovation in the Indian Service Sector
Inward FDI and innovation in the Indian service sector Bikramjit Sinha This section analyses
the linkage between inward FDI flows and innovation activity in Indian service sector. The focus is
on service sector since there has been unprecedented inflow of FDI in services in recent years. FDI
in Services In 2000, share of FDI in services to total FDI inflows in India was just 1.8% and
afterwards it grew steadily to reach a record all time high of 34.7% during 2006 but declined
afterwards. Of the cumulative FDI in services during 2000 2010, financial services accounted for
bulk of the inflows (41.7%) followed by banking services (9.6%), and both non financial services

RTL intensity of services BEs was almost equal with R D intensity and stood at 0.5% over the

knowledge from foreign countries which has from 1.2% in 2001 to 0.57% in 2010 (Table 2).
FRTL intensity was highest during 2002 (0.4%) which after passing through a fluctuating trend

Examples Of Irony In Good Country People
What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is
there such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably
means that they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a
perfect person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really
are. Perceptionis the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her
article on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception
requires the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1).
Being able to perceive the characterof a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another
person. In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are
used to prove that one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable.
Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite.
Typically in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good
Country People. The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic
because she is the furthest from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free
because she has been hired and enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good
Country People is how Joy Hulga s intelligence causes

Hansberry Tales. In A Time Of Immense Racial Strife, Lorraine
Hansberry Tales
In a time of immense racial strife, Lorraine Hansberry a well respected African American author,
civil rights and sexual equality advocate wrote some of the most influential works of her time.
Tenacious and resilient, Hansberry explicitly shared her views on sexual identity, racerelationships
and identity. Being a successful, black, woman playwright during the 1900 s meant that she had
encountered not only racism in her time, but also had to go through deciding just what being black
meant during the Civil Rights Movement. A Raisin in the Sun follows a black family in Chicago,
which what Hansberry was born into. She was the youngest of four children, born in 1930, in

In her work, Hansberry frequently addresses the strained, sensitive topic of race relations. She
comments on the extensive, prolonged and painful tension between black and white people that still
exists today. In her play Les Blancs, a scholarly African man Tshembe, returns from Europe to
Africa to attend his father s memorial service. His home is imbued with the intense hatred that is
a result of the ongoing struggle between European colonies and those native to Africa, strongest
around a small, make shift hospital made by missionaries. There is underlying tension between
him and the white colonists at first. There are a few snide remarks that him and the colonist
casually woven into every conversation they have. Very quickly, their implicit hatred warps into a
full blown feud. Most of the colonists believe that Africa is their rightful home since the Africans
had it for so long and did nothing with it (90). The colonist had a specific standard of civilization
which Africa did not meet. Therefore, when the colonist got there and started to form Africa into
something that loosely resembled their homeland, they felt that they were entitled to Africa.
Additionally, they believe that there is sacredness of a white life (105) and that white people must
be protected and valued at all cost because one white life taken

Comparing Glass Menagerie And Eating Gilbert Grape
I think the relationship between Glass menagerie and Eating Gilbert Grape
are similar because Tom and Gilbert are alike the main characters in both
Stories. And why because Tom hates his life and he often goes to the movies
or the fire escape. Gilbert beats up his brother, Arnie, because he refused to
to take a bath, after that Gilbert left the house and drove off. Gilbert had enough
of Arnie and his responsibility of taking care of him, Gilbert just wanted to escape

Egypt s Influence On The World
For the past few centuries, Egypt was ruled by foreigners that distributed wealth among their peers
and made the indigenous people their subjects. During the Nineteenth century, Egypt was ruled by
Mehmet Ali and his descendants. Mehmet Ali was a general sent by the Ottoman empire to expel
Napoleon Bonaparte from Egypt. Due to the increase pressure on the Ottoman Empire by Russia
from the North, Mehmet Ali parted ways and planned to build his own empire with military
strength. Since then, the leaders of Egypt have sustain power on owning majority of vast land. The
land is used for agriculture that produces revenue to support the army of Mehmet Ali. This land was
distributed among the friends and families of the kings who ruled Egypt who strengthen throughout
the century. During the late nineteenth century to mid 20 century, the British extend their rule in
Egypt. This was strategic for the British because they built the Suez canal which gave them a
shorter route to India. Controlling the Suez Canal enabled them to control world trade which made
their empire even stronger. However, the British not only controlled the Canal but exploited land.
Cotton became the second most extracted product from Egypt that went to the mills in the United
Kingdom. It wasn t until the Free officers revolted against the British to leave and the indigenous
Egyptians for the first time controlled their own country after centuries.

Police Gang So I Chose The Mexican Mafia
The topic my group and I decided on was Prison Gangs. Our subtopic was to choose a prison
gang so I chose the Mexican Mafia. I chose the Mexican Mafia subtopic because it was
recommended to me from another group member. At first the book did not seem interesting
because this is a book I would not normally pick up on my own. This book will talk about many
things from its early history of the Mexican Mafiain chapter one to rival gangs in Chapter twelve.
Chapter one talks about gangs early history, prison gangs did not start in prison, they had to be
street gangs; Mexican Street gangs have been in California since the 1900. Mexican street
gangs from the south side of Los Angeles had over 50,000 members 600 from different gangs.
The founder of the Duell Vocational Institution (DVI) from Tracy, California was a man named
Luis Huero Buff Flores. The original members of these street gangs we not in fact Mexican
nationals but Citizens of the US. A majority of them spoke English and Calo and very few, close
to none spoke Spanish. What shocked the author was that the members of the gang were at some
point in time were rivals on the street. Flores created the gang but did not run it, the book says he
made it so no one man controls the gang but instead everyone voted, and the majority won. He
wanted all members to have equality.
Sociologist and law enforcers believed the gangs were created to protect them from inmates. The
gang had their very own rules; they were very strict the

Don t Ignore Climate Change
Purpose : To persuade my audience to change their perception on climate change.
Thesis : Climate change is a controversial topic that some believe to be fake. Studies show that
climate change is a real danger going on around us. These studies uncover what the future holds for
humanity. As humans it is our moral duty to do what is right by earth, that has been our home for
millions of years.
1. Attention A. Read quote by the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki moon, We
are the first generation to be able to end poverty, and the last generation that can take steps to avoid
the cost impacts of climate change. Future generations will judge us harshly If we fail to uphold
our moral and historical responsibilities. B. Climate change, many of you have probably heard
about it its also referred as global warming. Climate change definition :is the change of a regions

Creon s Use Of Justice In Antigone
Antigone contrasts two types of justice and law. The law of men and statues on one hand, and
religious law on the other. Because of the centrality of fate and the rule of the Gods, in the lives of
the main characters of the play, religious rites and traditions are elevated to the status of law. These
forms of law are used in Antigonemore than any of the other plays written in the Oedipustrilogy, in
which Antigone s standards of divine justice clash with Creon s will as the head of state.

Computer Programming And Informational Technology
One of the best sources for career information is the U.S. Department of Labor s Bureau of Labor
Statistics (BLS). According to BLS data, 74 percent of new STEM (science, technology,
engineering and math) jobs through 2022 will be in computing (Hoffman). This information
shows that computer science is a major field, and that it is growing rapidly; However, there are
not enough people to fill the roles in this field. So, in order to understand how computers work and
what career paths are associated with them, It s important to figure out how the hardware works,
software works, and then see what career paths there are in computerprogramming and
informational technology in order to educate people on what they need to learn for this career....

Then information is then sent to the CPU, which has three basic capabilities: to perform basic
mathematical operations, move data from one memory location to another, make decisions to
jump from one instruction to another (Laue). Next, the character is sent to a RAM chip, an
integrated circuit made of millions of pairs of transistors and capacitors that are linked to create
a memory cell. These capacitors and transistors are arranged as a grid, with the columns
connected by bitlines and the rows connected by wordlines. The combination of bitlines and
wordlines defines an address for each switch and capacitor. This also accounts for why this type
of memory is called random access: you can access any memory cell directly if you know its
address (Laue). Finally, the letter is sent to the output device, which includes monitors, printers,
modems, ethernet cards, and speakers. Modems are the hardware device through which most of
us were introduced to the Internet. The computer operates exclusively with Is and Os, with a
digital code. By contrast, phone lines work with an analogue signal, an electronic current with
variable frequency and strength. It is the modem s job to demodulate data from a phone line, to
convert the wave to a series of Is and Os, and to modulate the data generated by the computer, to
convert the Is and Os to a continuous wave (Laue). So, the hardware of a computer works by
receiving an input from a keyboard, sending it to the motherboard s

Essay on Industry Analysis Chipotle
Industry Analysis
Overview of the Quick Service Industry
The fast food, or quick service restaurant industry (QSR), represents approximately 200,000
restaurants and $155 billion in sales in the U.S. alone, they are one of the largest segments of the
food industry (Hoovers, 2011). This segment of the restaurant industry is highly competitive and
fragmented... number, size and strength of competitors vary by region, market and even restaurant.
All of these restaurants compete based on a number of factors, including taste, quality, speed of
service, price and value, name recognition, restaurant location, customer service and the ambience
and condition of each restaurant (Chipotle, 2010).
The QSR industry is seeing growth due to the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Changes in customer preferences, general economic conditions, discretionary spending priorities,
demographic trends, traffic patterns and the type, number and location of competing restaurants
have a moderate effect on the restaurant industry (Chipotle, 2010). One example of customer
preferences being a driver in the industry is the Whole Food ism Movement which has put a large
focus on organic, antibiotic free, and non processed foods (Mansolillo, 2007). Consumers now look
for healthier options when eating and an overall healthier lifestyle. Chipotle has been able to benefit
from this movement by carrying on their Food with Integrity mission (Chipotle, 2010).
Due to economic downturn the strength of the buyers power has increased as the industry looks to
gain consumers with pricing strategies much like those of McDonald s Value Menuand
combination meals even though the cost of commodities have gone up (James, 2010). Customers
of QSRs are looking for quality food without high costs. While Chipotle does not have a value
menu or offer any type of combination meal much of their success is due to the fact that the
customers are willing to pay a higher cost for higher quality (Chipotle, 2010).

Comparing Cultures There are elements present in every culture, the roots of which make each
country unique. To compare and show how similar Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian cultures are, I will
focus on the emergence of each nation, as well as each culture s national identity. The historical
backgrounds found within the countries of Sierra Leone and Ghana have shaped each of their
national identities. Exploring how Sierra Leone and Ghana emerged as individual nations is crucial
in understanding their national identities as well as necessary to show the similarities between
Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian cultures. As for both Sierra Leone and Ghana, we see major

A year after the English outlawed slavery, Sierra Leone became a British crown colony.
New courts were established, new codes and new laws were introduced, chiefs were confirmed or
deposed and new ones appointed, direct and indirect taxation was introduced, and forced labour was
demanded for the construction of roads and railways. All these measures naturally generated
various reaction (Cohen and Boahen 68).
In 1899, while still under colonialization, the Temne and Mende people of Sierra Leone led a
rebellion, the Hut Tax Rebellion, in protest to taxes imposed by the British because, Sierra
Leoneans did not passively accept such manipulations. ( World Culture ) Before the Portuguese
arrived in Ghana in the fifteenth century, kingdoms in that region had already developed among
various Akan speaking and neighboring groups and were in the process of expanding their wealth,
size, and power ( World Culture ). With their arrival, the Portuguese initially opened a sea route to
trade gold, the competition for which brought more Europeans to Ghana, but soon after, the slave
trade business was in full swing. During which in Ghana, the Ashanti kingdom emerged as a

Hamlet What Is the Appeal to the 21 Century Audience
As people in the twenty first century generally don t believe in ghosts and don t consider revenge
a duty, why is a play like Hamlet still of interest to film and theatre audiences?
As William Shakespeare began writing Hamlet in 1598 at the end of the 16th century the play
which would go on to become one of his most famous pieces of work was geared towards an
audience of churls , groundlings and the less educated members of theatre going society, just as
equally as the more educated and affluent audience members. Theatre being a relatively affordable
and popular form of entertainment for the less wealthy individuals, Shakespeare would cater as
much to their tastes as he would to the higher society who would attend his plays. A ... Show more

When you consider that he was following the instructions of his father s ghost it becomes even
more blurred. It was the ghost which created the fire inside Hamlet, the desire for revenge but also
the need for revenge as a duty, to his murdered father. The ghost, however, has been the subject of
much debate amongst critics and readers of Hamlet, with the controversy surrounding whether the
ghost is real as a physical element of the play, or whether it exists simply in the mind of Hamlet.
The play opens with Horatio and various watchmen alarmed that they have seen a ghostly presence,
although we don t know for sure that they have actually seen the purported ghost of the former
King. This could indicate that what they saw wasn t actually a ghost, and further evidence to
suggest this could be found in the scene in which Hamlet sees the ghost but Gertrude cannot see
him (Act III, Scene IV).
Some critics, such as Jan Pick, argue that the appearance of the ghost as an actual element of the
play is simply to encourage the audience to accept Hamlet as a rational human being rather than an
insane character; the inclusion of the ghost as somebody the audience (if not the other characters)
can see lends an air of authenticity to the ghost scenes, authenticity which can only exist to a
modern audience in the assumption that Hamlet actually is insane, and imagining the ghost. Still,
this scenario leads the viewer down a different but

away from the banks in New York and make money more available to people outside of Wall
Street by spreading it throughout the country in independent reserves that were controlled by the
federal government and not bankers. We must have a currency, not as rigid as now, but readily,
elastically responsive to sound credit, the expanding and contracting credits of everyday
transactions, the normal ebb and flow of personal and corporate dealings. Our banking laws must
mobilize reserves; not permit the concentration anywhere in a few hands of the monetary resources
of the country or their use for speculative purposes in such volume as to hinder or impede or stand
in the way of other more legitimate, more fruitful uses. And the control of the system of banking
and of issue which our new laws are to set up must be public, not private, must be vested in the
Government itself, so that the banks may be the instrument, not the masters, of business and of the

Metamorphosis 5-7 Of The Sermon At The Sermon On The Mount
The New Testament of the Christian Bible has been believed, critiqued, scrutinized, and
intensely studied since it came into existence. Men and women around the globe have argued
and interpreted sections of the book in several different ways. Whereas the entire book rarely
agrees with most people s ethical or spiritual values, portions of the book have become entwined
with social and legal codes in the modern world. Chapters 5 7 of the book of Matthew, one of four
gospel books that chronicle the life of Jesus, are commonly referred to at the Sermon on the Mount.
This widely accepted passage inspires millions around the world and has done so for thousands of
years. Naturally, some of the most historically significant human rights movements use ideas and
concepts discussed by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount regardless of their religious affiliation.
Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Dietrich Bonheoffer, all implemented aspects of the
sermon in their respective struggles against oppressive groups. This text, regardless of its origin,
provides an exceptional ethical base and acts as an effective tool when applied to social movements.

In these verses, Jesus explains that the suffering in the world will not last, and that those who
strive for righteousness, mercy, and peace will receive eternal rewards in the kingdom of
heaven. All three of these men can relate to verse 10 which reads, Blessed are those who are
persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:10). A major
reason these three men are celebrated is because all were killed fighting for righteousness. Gandhi
and King each received bullets for their service to society, and Bonheoffer faced the noose at the
hands of the Nazi regime. All of them understood that what they believed in was greater than life
itself, and that their reward was not something mortal but

The Impact Of Stereotypes And Stereotypes

However, they should not be chastised for their decision.
Throughout history, there have been many experiments and works of literature showcasing the
effect and various perspectives of being marginalized in society. For example, the prose essay
written by Fang Gao titled, What it means to be a model minority : voices of ethnic Koreans in
Northeast China. In this article, he explains the different opinions and struggles that Koreans have,
living in China. Gao suggests that Koreans and Asians share the same racials label: portrayed as a
model minority that is primed for socioeconomic advancement and academic success (qtd. in Gao

stereotype of a model minority is making it challenging for Koreans to become their own individual
ethnic group in China. Thus, making them feel unrecognized and marginalized into the chinese

the struggle they went through, in able to cross the border of communist North Korea and making

Assess Whether Pericles Was a Good or Bad Leader
Assess Whether Pericles Was A Good or Bad Leader
Pericles (C. 495 429 BC) was a very influential politician and general in Athens. He is said to have
brought about a very important time in Athenian history known as The Golden Age of Athens
where he brought about or placed focus on certain things like art, which gave Athens the reputation
as the cultural and educational centre of Ancient Greece, architecture, where he created a project to
beautify the city and provide work for Athenians with most of its products like the Parthenon still
surviving and giving us an idea of the glory of Athens. He also made valuable contributions to
drama, the bringing about of democracy and the establishment of the Greek empire.

Other symbolic attributes for a lion are strength, courage, power, royalty, dignity, authority,
dominion, justice, wisdom and ferocity which I believe are all attributes displayed by Pericles in
both his political and military career. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the
home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens.
There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by
the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the
people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes.
Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in
chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the
Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with
strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills.
Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not
carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. The evidence, as said in the last
paragraph is in his great speeches and his ability to draw a certain reaction from the Athenian people
and so though some may argue that he left the Athenians with no authoritative leader which could

Essay on Significance of Canada s Role in the Korean War
On June 25th, 1950, North Korean forces crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded the Republic of
Korea (South Korea). This was a battle between democracy and communism, where the United
Nations supported the South Democrats while the Soviet Union in cooperation with China
supported the North Communists. Most Canadians knew nothing about Koreaduring the 1950s.
Despite that, the Canadian army still sent an entire brigade group to military operations there.
Besides the two world wars, the Korean Warremains Canada s third bloodiest oversea conflict as it
left 516 Canadians killed and at least 1,200 injured. Canada made significant military contributions

The brigade inflicted great damage to the enemy troops with minimal casualties. Ultimately, Canada
s actions earned them a United States Presidential Unit Citation and prevented the communists from
crossing through the 38th Parallel and recapturing South Korean territory once again. In July 1951,
after US President Truman fired General MacArthur for insubordination, Truman and his new
military commanders started truce negotiations at Panmunjom. Nonetheless, battle continuously
ensued across the 38th Parallel as negotiations stalled. Canada s navy played a noteworthy role in
defending UN aircraft carriers for the chance to apply political pressure against North Korea. As
Canada s eight naval ships defended the UN aircraft, a mass series of bombings took place on 13
hydroelectric generating facilities known as the Attacks on Sui Ho Dam. The UN wanted to
make the message clear that they were willing to make this war as difficult and expensive as
possible for the communists. The strikes were successful in destroying up to 90% of North Korea
s facilities and causing a blackout for 2 weeks; 23% of power was also reduced from Northeast
China. Eventually, this political pressure contributed to North Korea to agree and sign armistice.
Furthermore, the ships were also responsible for short bombardments and the eradication of North
Korean trains and railways. Although the political pressure from the Sui Ho Dam

Stephen King Influences
Stephen King is one of today s most popular and best selling horror writers. King combines the
elements of psychological chills and paranormal. He loves to mess with the heads of his readers,
often making them feel sorry for his characters, such as in stories of Carrie and The Green Mile,
which both exhibit supernatural factors. King also tends to fancy writing from a viewpoint that the
readers can get into. The vast majority of King s stories occur in places his American readers can

One of King s most famous works, and its fame is partly because of the movie, is the Green
Mile. It has many Christian qualities throughout. The Green Mile, a large, African American
man named John Coffey, seems to mirror the life of Jesus Christ, although the story is set in the
death row area of a depression era prison ( The Writing Style of Stephen King, para 35). The
story really hits home with people about the selflessness of Jesus Christ. For Christians and
people who have a general idea of the Bible, they will understand this story. John Coffey was
prosecuted for from something he did not do. He was a healer of the sick. He used supernatural
powers to help the sick, as he heals one of the Ward s wife who has a brain tumor towards the end
of the novel. In The Green Mile, King uses magical realism to introduce his readers to
supernatural elements taking place in an ordinary realistic environment (The Writing Styles of
Stephen King para 20). In life we can experience things that do not seem real even though they
can happen is why it is magical to us. Sometimes people feel like they are accused of things do
not do and have to get punished for it, just as Coffey was. John eventually has to die for the sins he
did not commit, but he does not go without first teaching a lesson

and belong to one of three classes within society; rulers, auxiliaries and craftsmen. Socrates
believes firmly that if this organization is upheld then society will be stable. It was said by
Glaucon, that Socratesprophecies may be disseminated through the generations. This was in fact
the case due to his claims being advanced by the science of the times (Gould, 1996). This book
according to this introduction looks to discuss this science of biological determinism. Biological
determinism is an idea that sees all human behavior as innate. It postulates that we function as a
matter of our genetics, brain size and biology and not society or culture.

The Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution
Following the Second World War, complications arose centering on the shifting of international
power. The Soviet Union wanted to acquire additional territory, while the United States attempted to
limit the gains desired by the soviets. This battle of ideology has resulted in an increase in National
security, Diplomatic tension and Proxy wars between the two powerful nations. For over three
hundred years, Russiahad been controlled by an autocratic government known as the tsarist
regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over the country.
(BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its will
on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force caused
repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an outburst
from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two separate strikes
in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike which placed
the Bolshevikparty in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic transformation to
the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took power over
Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which proved vital for
Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to the country s
development. Today, in modern history we

Compulsory Military Draft
Compulsory National Service was accepted by many Americans back when the nation was
starting to become a powerhouse and wars were beginning to emerge. However, forcing young
adults to join or at least register for the military at the age of 18 or is wrong because it is against
their free will, they may have a different career path in mind that could be disrupted if a war is to
emerge and it will affect their mental state and they could be diagnosed with PTSD.
To start off, compulsory national service is when a country requires that men and women register
for the military at the age of 18. Once they are registered, if a war breaks out and their nation is in
the war, they are automatically thrown into military service without their say so. This could mean
that at any age and at any time, a young adult could just be thrown into ... Show more content on

Having the draft and requiring that they either serve or go to jail is going to disrupted their
career path or taint their background when trying to get future jobs. If a person were to refuse
the draft and get sent to jail, then when they are finally released and they try to apply for a job,
that charge could appear on the background check of the person and prevent them from getting a
job. On the other hand, when they decide to join rather than be put into jail, they are taken away
to train for military combat. That means that they are also taken away from being able to
improve their skills in their career field. Not only will they lose the time to improve their skills
in their career but they will also begin to lose skills that they gained from the career. They will be
so focused on fighting, staying alive and how much time they have left being in the war that once
they return to their job they will have to be trained again. Making their lives harder and the

Yellow Perch Research Paper
Average Yellow Perch length (TL) ranged from 87 (age 1) to 223mm (age 5), whereas,
Pumpkinseed length ranged from 47mm (age 1) to 194mm (age 6) which is similar to other
findings in many lakes in North America (Scott Crossman 1998; Pierce, Rasmussen, Leggett
1990). Pumpkinseed growth was constant for the first 4 5 years, then began to slow, whereas,
growth in Yellow perch was constant for the first 2 3 years and began to slow which is similar to
other studies (Copp, et al. 2004; Lauer Doll 2007). This may be due to maturation age when energy
is allocated to reproduction(Roff 1983). Purchase et al. (2005) studied life history traits of Yellow
Perch in many Ontario lakes and found that Yellow Perch mature around age 2 (Purchase et al.
2005). Maturation age in Pumpkinseed is variable between lakes, but many reach maturity in their
third year (Copp et al. 2004). Our results indicate that Pumpkinseed in this population may mature
later since growth doesn t appear to slow until after age 4 5 years.... Show more content on

How Can Remedy Of Eco Labeled Products So That They Match...
In this section, I will explain how we can remedy each of the causes in the previous section in
order to close the green gap . By finding possible solutions to these causes I will discuss possible
ways to increase purchases of eco labeled products so that they match consumers survey results and
intent.
A commonly discussed solution would be to internalize the price of environmental degradation
into the price of all goods, so they are priced accurately. This would eliminate economic negative
externalities. This would increase the price of all goods, but it would increase the price of non
green products much more than eco labeled products, thus making eco friendly products the less
expensive product. Given that this paper is from the perspective of an individual marketer who
would not have the power to make this wide sweeping change, we are focusing on solutions to can
be practically implemented by marketers.
We can begin to close the gap by educating consumers about the benefits of eco labeled goods.
According the Ogilvy Earth, the marketing research firm, We need to simplify mental accounting
and translate the murky benefits of sustainability into something immediate and concrete (Bennett
and Williams 87). Many people don t see the effect these products have on the environment
because the effect is so far removed from their immediate lives. Right now the effects of eco
friendly products are a far off concept that don t hit close to home for consumers. Pope Francis

Thermal Energy Conversion Essay
The demand for an efficient renewable energy source is a driving force in ongoing research.
Thermal energy conversion is one such potential source that is under constant investigation and has
endless avenues of possibility. The two requirements of energy production are efficiency and
renewability. Many possibilities exist for energyproduction including: Fossil Fuels (natural gas,
oil, coal, oilshale), nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and wastes, hydroelectric. Efficiency
of the use of these resource are directly related to the location and the demand in that location. For
example Hawaii is a prime candidate for the use of the oceans mechanical wave action, the thermal

There are three types of energy converters producing electricity: closed cycle, open cycle, and a
hybrid system combining the previous two systems. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm
surface water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by
the expanding vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce
electricity. Cold water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle
is repeated. An open cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low
pressure, the steam that is created is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is
condensed again by cold water. If the condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it
can be used for consumption or agriculture. Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC
are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce electricity through the use of solar warmed water.
Steam Powered Turbine Engine
Capturing the power of steam is not a new idea but one that has been used for hundreds of years.
A jet of steam can readily do work on an object by the jet propolsion effect of steam escaping
through a small guided hole or by a stream colliding with a system of paddle wheels. Most early
steam powered machines used the principles of the latter. The system of paddles, or turbine, was
used to drive a shaft which in turn could drive any number of gear or belt driven mechanisms. The

Factory Farms Vs Factory Farming
Where does the food humans consume come from. Probably not, if foods placed on the plate most
find satisfaction with that. But, most of the food humans consume probably comes from factory
farms. Factory farms consist of large buildings that confine animals in order to prevent diseases but
also to produce foodfast and more efficiently. Factoryfarms help produce more food to feed the
world. World hungercontinues to be a growing issue and has caused issues for quite some time.
Factory farms increase production and help feed the world. Due to an increase in population
factory farms holds the world s food supply in check. Factory farms produce more animals in a
quicker matter than any other place. Factory farms help contain waste and help stop some
environmental problems that come with raising livestock. One problem that concerns most happens
to be the disposal of animal waste. With their waste being captured in a pit under the confinement
factory farms help stop the spread of pollution that comes from livestock.
One example of a factory farm in use, a major producing company Tyson foods. At Tyson foods
33 day old chickens weigh enough to be slaughtered. This goes to show that factory farms need
to be used in order to feed the world. Factory farms raise food more efficient than any other place.

Hunting For Michigan Morels By Ben Smith
Hunting for Michigan Morels
Ben Smith
ENG 100
Introduction: The state of Michigan is great for hunting edible mushrooms. Some of the common
mushrooms people like to hunt for are the chanterelle, honey or stumpers , and the morel. The
morel is one of the more popular mushrooms that people look forward to hunting. Michigan s
atmospheric conditions make it a great state for these mushrooms to thrive in during the season.
Before you go hunting, it is important to know the etiquette and a little about the particular
mushroom you re hunting so not to make the mistake of accidently picking one that could
potentially harm you. Because there are so many mushrooms that are edible here in Michigan, I
choose to focus on one of my favorites the morel.
Topics:
As mentioned, one of the most common edible mushrooms that people look forward to hunting
is the morel. Not only are they one of the most hunted mushrooms here in Michigan, they are also
one of the most easiest mushrooms to correctly identify. Before we discuss the description of the
morel it is important to know when to go searching for this delicious mushroom. Here in
Michigan, the best time to spot morels is early spring. They can be pretty unpredictable as to
where they will pop up and you may not find them in the same spot the next year. I ve seen them
along trails, in fields, along paved roads or even in a pile of old wood mulch. You will find them
alone or in a group with others on the ground. A

Essay on The Pure Voice in Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles
The Pure Voice in Tess of the D Urbervilles
Thomas Hardy often alludes to his heroine as the soft and silent Tess. Soft certainly insinuates her
beauty, which Harrtainly insinuates her beauty, which Hardy stresses as her downfall. However, it
seems that Tess s silence is the all pervading reason for her tragedies. The two men she encounters
in her life steal her voice: one with violence, the other with his own language (Jacobus 47). Tess
struggles with the damage that these men cause until redeeming herself through innocence.
Hardy, in his portrayal of Tess as The Maiden, begins with the May Day Dance, where Tess has yet
to develop her beauty but wears a red ribbon in her hair, the only girl to do so ... Show more content

This is the first occasion where silence brings about a tragedy. The guilt ta tragedy. The guilt that
Tess heaps upon herself here is only the first drop in the bucket that she carries around with her for
the rest of her life, constantly adding to its weight. At this point, she regards herself in the light of a
murderess. This heavily foreshadows the murder to come later in her life.
This guilt convinces Tess that she must now travel to the D Urbervilles home and claim kin
with them. Upon meeting Alec, she is shy and ashamed of her purpose. He tries to feed her a
strawberry by holding it up to her mouth. She blocks him, exclaiming, No no! I would rather take
it in my own hand. But he persists and she relents. Many advances by Alec are blocked in this
way, by both her verbal and physical cues I am angry with you sometimes! she says, after she
tires of his advances. He wears her down or manipulates her using her family s financial state
afamily s financial state as a tool. Finally, he has Tess worn down to silence. At the night of her
rape, she is exhausted from her fight with the villagers and the long ride out into The Chase. At
first, the verbal exchanges between the two are plentiful, but Tess becomes cold and tired and
therefore quiet and Alec is able to overtake her body and her speech.

The Grinch is not guilty of the charges brought against him, because he gave back the presents
that he stole. He also saved Cindy Lou from falling of the cliff. He cared, and after all that he
turned himself into the town police. People believe that he is guilty because of the stuff he did.
The Grinch turned out to be a kind caring person. In the Beginning of the movie he had a small
heart. Towards the ending of the movie he grew a bigger heart. The Grinch is not guilty of the
charges brought against him, nor does he have poor character. One example of the Grinch is that
he had compassion. The reason I say that is because when Cindy Lou was in the mail room, she fell
into the mail machine. After she fell, the Grinch reached out his arm and

time and work. The second step is easier than the first step, because most of the work depends on

Discrimination In The Movie, The Blind Side, By Michael Oher
The movie The Blind Side was released in 2009. It is about a young man, named Michael Oher,
who grew up in a poor environment. In the beginning of the movie, Michael was homeless and not
currently attending school. All of that changed when a woman, named Leigh Anne Tuohy, offered
Michael the chance to stay with her and her family. The Tuohy family was well off, unlike
Michael, so it was an adjustment for both the family and him to live together. However, the family
was very warm and welcoming to Michael, which differed from many of the other people Michael
encountered. In the movie, Michael experienced racism, discrimination, and prejudice towards him
from a variety of people. Michael lived in a bad area when he was a young boy. This... Show more

Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle,
a member from the other team kicked Michael in the head. Michael did nothing to react in a
threatening way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the
other team did not get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and
called un sportsman like conduct for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything
wrong. Another example of discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was
blocking a player on the other team. Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee s
called out his team. The coach asked the referee what they did wrong and they responded by
saying, I don t know... excessive blocking. The referee s obviously did not have a significant
reason for blowing their whistles and they likely would not have mentioned it if Michael was
white. Similarly to real life, people are prejudice and racist towards people behind their backs
too. The movie displays a good example of this. As I previously mentioned, the Tuohy family had
a large amount of money, they even owned multiple chains of Taco Bell. Due to their money,
Leigh Anne was friends with women who were wealthy as well. One day, Leigh Anne and her
friends were eating at an expensive restaurant and while they were waiting on their food, they
began a conversation about Michael. One of the women said Hey, does Michael get the

The Importance Of Social Class, Race And Family Life
Race and class can play powerful roles in people s family experiences. Race is defined as a socially
constructed category of individuals who share common inborn biological traits (Newman 2009).
Class is defined as groups of people who share a similar position in society based on their wealth
and income (Newman 2009). Social classand race shape family lives in many ways, which in
return reproduces class and race inequalities. In Annette Lareau s study of families, she uses real
stories of real families to show important social patterns. All families want their children to be
happy, healthy, and grow. Social classes
make a difference in how parents go about meeting this
goal. In Annette Lareau book, Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life, she promotes
middle classparents as concerted cultivation. Middle class parents encourage their children s
talents, opinions, and skills. For example, engaging their children in organized activities and
closely monitoring children s experiences in school. According to Lareau, middle class children
gain an emerging sense of entitlement through this pattern of converted cultivation. This causes a
focus on children s individual development. There are signs that the middle class children gain
advantages from the experience of concerted cultivation. However, the working class and poor
children do not gain this advantage. A lot of the inequalities that are produced are in social classes.
According to Lareau, the middle class is

  • 2. The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure, and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer. Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an Era of Excess: Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have ... • 5. Best NBA Player Wow, this 2016 17 NBA regular was tremendous for the NBA world. From LeBron becoming an explosive player again to Russel Westbrook having an amazing triple double run. In order for him to have surpassed the legend he need to tweak the team chemistry and player like a player who has a unique usage for a team. I just wonder what the locker room has to be like when Russ wins the game for his team along with getting season awards such as player of the week. I have so many wonders, but Russel Westbrooks play this season is the most intriguing that I have. This season Russel Westbrook averaged a triple double and surpassed Oscar Roberson for most triple doubles in a season with forty three. He averaged 31 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. In order for him to have been able to average a triple double this season had to at least have one in forty one of the eighty two season games. Since Russ has achieved an honor that seemed unable to fully commit to, because of how long the season is he is the 2016 17 regular season most valuable player[mvp]. Inward FDI and Innovation in the Indian Service Sector Inward FDI and innovation in the Indian service sector Bikramjit Sinha This section analyses the linkage between inward FDI flows and innovation activity in Indian service sector. The focus is on service sector since there has been unprecedented inflow of FDI in services in recent years. FDI in Services In 2000, share of FDI in services to total FDI inflows in India was just 1.8% and afterwards it grew steadily to reach a record all time high of 34.7% during 2006 but declined afterwards. • 8. Examples Of Irony In Good Country People What is a Good Country Person? Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are. Perceptionis the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, Unlike mere recognition, perception requires the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention (1). Being able to perceive the characterof a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that one s perception of something or someone is not always reliable. Irony is the expression of one s meaning by using language that usually means the opposite. Typically in literature, irony is used in emphatic sense. There is a multitude of irony in Good Country People. The character s names of this story are incredibly ironic. Joy Hulga is ironic because she is the furthest from being joyful. Another example is, Mrs. Freeman. She is not free because she has been hired and enslaved by Mrs. Hopewell. Another type of irony in Good Country People is how Joy Hulga s intelligence causes ... His home is imbued with the intense hatred that is a result of the ongoing struggle between European colonies and those native to Africa, strongest around a small, make shift hospital made by missionaries. There is underlying tension between him and the white colonists at first. There are a few snide remarks that him and the colonist casually woven into every conversation they have. Very quickly, their implicit hatred warps into a full blown feud. Most of the colonists believe that Africa is their rightful home since the Africans had it for so long and did nothing with it (90). The colonist had a specific standard of civilization which Africa did not meet. Therefore, when the colonist got there and started to form Africa into something that loosely resembled their homeland, they felt that they were entitled to Africa. Additionally, they believe that there is sacredness of a white life (105) and that white people must be protected and valued at all cost because one white life taken ... These forms of law are used in Antigonemore than any of the other plays written in the Oedipustrilogy, in which Antigone s standards of divine justice clash with Creon s will as the head of state. According to BLS data, 74 percent of new STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) jobs through 2022 will be in computing (Hoffman). This information shows that computer science is a major field, and that it is growing rapidly; However, there are not enough people to fill the roles in this field. So, in order to understand how computers work and what career paths are associated with them, It s important to figure out how the hardware works, software works, and then see what career paths there are in computerprogramming and informational technology in order to educate people on what they need to learn for this career.... Then information is then sent to the CPU, which has three basic capabilities: to perform basic mathematical operations, move data from one memory location to another, make decisions to jump from one instruction to another (Laue). Next, the character is sent to a RAM chip, an integrated circuit made of millions of pairs of transistors and capacitors that are linked to create a memory cell. These capacitors and transistors are arranged as a grid, with the columns connected by bitlines and the rows connected by wordlines. The combination of bitlines and wordlines defines an address for each switch and capacitor. This also accounts for why this type of memory is called random access: you can access any memory cell directly if you know its address (Laue). Finally, the letter is sent to the output device, which includes monitors, printers, modems, ethernet cards, and speakers. Modems are the hardware device through which most of us were introduced to the Internet. The computer operates exclusively with Is and Os, with a digital code. By contrast, phone lines work with an analogue signal, an electronic current with variable frequency and strength. It is the modem s job to demodulate data from a phone line, to convert the wave to a series of Is and Os, and to modulate the data generated by the computer, to convert the Is and Os to a continuous wave (Laue). This segment of the restaurant industry is highly competitive and fragmented... number, size and strength of competitors vary by region, market and even restaurant. All of these restaurants compete based on a number of factors, including taste, quality, speed of service, price and value, name recognition, restaurant location, customer service and the ambience and condition of each restaurant (Chipotle, 2010). Changes in customer preferences, general economic conditions, discretionary spending priorities, demographic trends, traffic patterns and the type, number and location of competing restaurants have a moderate effect on the restaurant industry (Chipotle, 2010). One example of customer preferences being a driver in the industry is the Whole Food ism Movement which has put a large focus on organic, antibiotic free, and non processed foods (Mansolillo, 2007). Consumers now look for healthier options when eating and an overall healthier lifestyle. Chipotle has been able to benefit from this movement by carrying on their Food with Integrity mission (Chipotle, 2010). Due to economic downturn the strength of the buyers power has increased as the industry looks to gain consumers with pricing strategies much like those of McDonald s Value Menuand combination meals even though the cost of commodities have gone up (James, 2010). Customers of QSRs are looking for quality food without high costs. While Chipotle does not have a value menu or offer any type of combination meal much of their success is due to the fact that the customers are willing to pay a higher cost for higher quality (Chipotle, 2010). To compare and show how similar Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian cultures are, I will focus on the emergence of each nation, as well as each culture s national identity. The historical backgrounds found within the countries of Sierra Leone and Ghana have shaped each of their national identities. New courts were established, new codes and new laws were introduced, chiefs were confirmed or deposed and new ones appointed, direct and indirect taxation was introduced, and forced labour was demanded for the construction of roads and railways. All these measures naturally generated various reaction (Cohen and Boahen 68). • 20. Hamlet What Is the Appeal to the 21 Century Audience As people in the twenty first century generally don t believe in ghosts and don t consider revenge a duty, why is a play like Hamlet still of interest to film and theatre audiences? As William Shakespeare began writing Hamlet in 1598 at the end of the 16th century the play which would go on to become one of his most famous pieces of work was geared towards an audience of churls , groundlings and the less educated members of theatre going society, just as equally as the more educated and affluent audience members. Theatre being a relatively affordable and popular form of entertainment for the less wealthy individuals, Shakespeare would cater as much to their tastes as he would to the higher society who would attend his plays. It was the ghost which created the fire inside Hamlet, the desire for revenge but also the need for revenge as a duty, to his murdered father. The ghost, however, has been the subject of much debate amongst critics and readers of Hamlet, with the controversy surrounding whether the ghost is real as a physical element of the play, or whether it exists simply in the mind of Hamlet. The play opens with Horatio and various watchmen alarmed that they have seen a ghostly presence, although we don t know for sure that they have actually seen the purported ghost of the former King. This could indicate that what they saw wasn t actually a ghost, and further evidence to suggest this could be found in the scene in which Hamlet sees the ghost but Gertrude cannot see him (Act III, Scene IV). Some critics, such as Jan Pick, argue that the appearance of the ghost as an actual element of the play is simply to encourage the audience to accept Hamlet as a rational human being rather than an insane character; the inclusion of the ghost as somebody the audience (if not the other characters) can see lends an air of authenticity to the ghost scenes, authenticity which can only exist to a modern audience in the assumption that Hamlet actually is insane, and imagining the ghost. Ancient Greek symbolism for a lion is the protector of the home and Pericles really showed that in the battles protecting his beloved home, Athens. There is also the argument of whether Pericles was actually a leader or just got carried away by the masses. Plutarch said, he was no longer the same man as before, nor alike submissive to the people and ready to yield and give in to the desires of the multitude as a steersman to the breezes. Here, Plutarch suggests, Pericles had no leadership over the Athenians and that he put the city in chaos to do as they could do what they want which is supported by others saying he made the Athenians idle, talkative and greedy (Plato). This motion would however have to be rejected with strong evidence against it in his speeches and oratory skills. Thucydides offered the correct leadership style of Pericles by arguing that Pericles was not carried away by the people, but he was the one guiding the people. The Green Mile, a large, African American man named John Coffey, seems to mirror the life of Jesus Christ, although the story is set in the death row area of a depression era prison ( The Writing Style of Stephen King, para 35). The story really hits home with people about the selflessness of Jesus Christ. For Christians and people who have a general idea of the Bible, they will understand this story. John Coffey was prosecuted for from something he did not do. He was a healer of the sick. He used supernatural powers to help the sick, as he heals one of the Ward s wife who has a brain tumor towards the end of the novel. In The Green Mile, King uses magical realism to introduce his readers to supernatural elements taking place in an ordinary realistic environment (The Writing Styles of Stephen King para 20). In life we can experience things that do not seem real even though they can happen is why it is magical to us. By finding possible solutions to these causes I will discuss possible ways to increase purchases of eco labeled products so that they match consumers survey results and intent. A commonly discussed solution would be to internalize the price of environmental degradation into the price of all goods, so they are priced accurately. This would eliminate economic negative externalities. This would increase the price of all goods, but it would increase the price of non green products much more than eco labeled products, thus making eco friendly products the less expensive product. Closed cycle OTEC systems use the warm surface water to boil a fluid that has a low boiling point (e.g. ammonia). The pressure caused by the expanding vapor is then used to turn a turbine. The turbine then turns a generator to produce electricity. Cold water is then used to recycle the vapor back to a condensed state and the cycle is repeated. An open cycle system directly boils the warm surface water. Operating at low pressure, the steam that is created is channeled in turn to a turbine engine. The water vapor is condensed again by cold water. If the condensed water is kept seperate from the cold seawater it can be used for consumption or agriculture. Other by products produced by the open cycle OTEC are a variety of minerals. Both cycles produce electricity through the use of solar warmed water. Race is defined as a socially constructed category of individuals who share common inborn biological traits (Newman 2009). Class is defined as groups of people who share a similar position in society based on their wealth and income (Newman 2009). Social classand race shape family lives in many ways, which in return reproduces class and race inequalities. In Annette Lareau s study of families, she uses real stories of real families to show important social patterns. All families want their children to be happy, healthy, and grow. Social classes make a difference in how parents go about meeting this goal. In Annette Lareau book, Unequal Childhoods: Class, Race, and Family Life, she promotes middle classparents as concerted cultivation. Middle class parents encourage their children s talents, opinions, and skills. For example, engaging their children in organized activities and closely monitoring children s experiences in school. According to Lareau, middle class children gain an emerging sense of entitlement through this pattern of converted cultivation. This causes a focus on children s individual development.
