First Day Of Shemu Essay
Today marked the first day of Shemu, which is the first day of the season of the harvest. I didn t
want to wake up at sunrise this morning, but today was extremely special to us farmers. We no
longer have to farm, but instead relax. We started to harvest our crops that we have grown for the
past 5 months. The crops that my family and I have grown are melons, vegetables, flax, and figs. I
harvested the flax first since I know that the priests will need to convert the flax into linens for their
garments. Maybe I ll even get to see the Pharaoh at the marketplace tomorrow! Actually, Pharaoh
Thutmose III, isn t very nice, so I think I ll pass on wanting to see him. Speaking of Pharaoh
Thutmose III, I ve heard that he wants to kill all the Israelite... Show more content on

That s very unlikely, but a girl can dream. I wonder how it feels to live even after you die. Once
you die, you are mummified. When you re mummified, your body s being preserved to be used
in the next life. Since I m part of one of the lower social classes, I won t have a mummification
that s as good as one of a scribe or a priest. For all social classes, however, your organs are
removed and places in sealed canopic jars, you are wrapped in bandages with amulets, and you
re placed in a sarcophagus. After they were buried in the ground with all of their possessions, the
deceased would follow Anubis to a hall in the Underworld. Osiris, other deities, 42 judges, and
Thoth were to judge you based on how heavy your heart was compared to a feather. If your heart
weighed more than a feather, you would be eaten by Amit, a half lion, half hippopotamus. If
your heart weighed less than a feather, you would be allowed to go to Iaru, or paradise. The
only way you would be able to make it here is if your soul could make it out alive on a journey
on the boat of Ra through a lake of fire, crocodiles, snakes, and Apophis, who was condemned to
sink the boat of Ra. Wow, that s a lot of information. The only reason I know all of this
information is because I may have overheard a couple priests talk about the mummification process
while they were all fighting over the flax

The Life of Ben Johnson
During the lifetime of Ben Johnson, Shakespeare s younger contemporary, was Considered a
better writer than his now much more famous colleague. He was a posthumous son Of a
clergyman, educated at Westminister School. After working as a bricklayer, he joined the Army
and served in Flanders. He returned to England in 1592 and married Anne Lewis two Years later.
Johnson joined Henslowe s theatrical company as an actor and playwright around 1597. Next
year, he killed a fellow actor and playwright around 1597. Next year, he killed a fellow actor,
Gabriel Spencer, in a duel and was tried for murder. He escaped the gallows only by pleading
benefit of clergy. He then became a celebrity with his play Every Man in His humour, performed
at the Globe with Shakespeare in the cast. The sequel, Every Man Out of His Humour (1599),
was less successful. (Jokinen, 2003) In 1605, he began to write masques for the entertainment of
the court, but his enduring repuatation rests on the comedies written between 1605 and 1614,
Volpone, or the Fox; Epicoene: or, The Silent Woman; The Alchemist; and BartholomewFair.
They are all peopled with dupes and people who deceive them. Johnson was appointed Poet
Laureate and rewarded a substantial pension in 1616. After a trip to Scotland, the home of his
ancestors, which he made entirely on foot, he was awarded an honorary Master of Arts Degree at
Oxford University.A group of young poets influenced by Johnson called themselves sons or tribe of

Native American Pipeline Research Paper
It is widely known that for centuries Native Americans have been oppressed, used and
discriminated against. A sort of hatred towards our government and our people transpires among the
Natives, and rightfully so. There are many reasons for the Natives to feel exploited, yet protesting
the pipeline and fighting back to the American political system can give Natives a feeling of
triumph and accomplishment if they are able to successfully halt the construction of the pipeline.
Murdoch specifically states that the last time Native Americans gathered and the nation notices was
in 1973 therefore we know that the building of this pipeline is very strongly opposed and quite
important to the Natives. There are many underlying factors that the Native

Japanese Canadians Essay
Many if not most, considered World War II, the most atrocious act of all time. It was viewed as a
war of beliefs and ideals. One side, vouching for domination, while another for freedom; One side
slaughtering and discriminating due to nationality, race, and religion; the other fighting against for
freedom, sovereignty, and peace. In reality, the war was not as black and white as that. Though the
Axis Powers did commit heinous Crimes against humanity (I.E Holocaust, Murder of millions,
Attempt at world domination etc.), the allies also had their own dark moments. Joy Kogawa

Furthermore, all Japanese newspapers and businesses were shut down. In Obasan the same events
occurred as they were evicted from their home, separated and sent to various places across western
Canada. This had an adverse psychological and economical impact on them, as the family was
stripped of their possessions, jobs, and families. It had such an impact that people like Naomi, in
real life still are haunted by it. The Psychological impacts put upon the Japanese Canadians, weren t
just the horrible experiences, or the separation of family and friends. Rather the impact due to the
discrimination of the Japanese Canadians by the government and the rest of society had a deeper
impact. The hatred of the Japanese Canadians by the Government and the people had an Enormous
impact on the people s well being, and the way they viewed themselves. The government after the
relocation sold most of the properties and confiscated possessions of the Japanese Canadians. They
also took out all of the Japanese Newspapers, restricted Telephone and mail Services, thus
Preventing Communication. Furthermore, the media was full of Anti Japanese Canadian Rhetoric.
Finally the Greatest hatred against came from not the media, nor the government, but the people

Climate Change And Urban Environment
Change in climate is becoming a major concern on a global scale, as it has had a tremendous
impact on urban environment. Oxford dictionary defines climate change as:
A change in global or regional climate patterns, [...] attributed to the increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. (Oxford Dictionary 2015)
The increasing amount of green house gases (GHG) released in the atmosphere is causing
significant changes in the environment leading to unpredictable weather patterns and warming of
the climate system is putting a great pressure on city development and infrastructures. This essay
outlines three problems caused by climate change in urban areas, and evaluates the effectiveness of
some of the mitigation and adaptation strategies. This essay reasons that mitigation and adaptation
strategies need to work in synergy in order to address the situation effectively.
The three problems caused by climate change are, rise in sea level, varied energy demand, and
water scarcity. Firstly, the impact on costal areas contributing to sea level rise has made low lying
cities vulnerable to them. Hunt and Watkiss (2011, p. 32) estimates that a 50 m raise in sea level
would render Mumbai s informal communities in severe despair. Moreover, climate change will
lead to variation in energy demand. Hunt and Watkiss (2011, p. 33) explain even though winter
heating will decrease due to warmer weather, cooling anticipated increasing in summer, increasing

Discussion of State Sovereignty and Globalization
This paper aims to discuss the rather amorphous concepts of state sovereignty and Globalization
and how the notion of sovereignty has been diluted over the years by this phenomenon of
globalization. To narrow down the analysis this paper will consider the dilution of sovereignty
under the light of a primary force of globalization; Transnational Corporations. With the birth of the
state, the concept of sovereigntyoriginated. This included both internal and external sovereignty;
however, the latter was recognized much later after the end of the Thirty Years War and the signing
of the Treaty of Westphalia. Internal Sovereignty was defined as the ability to exercise control and
authority within the territorial boundaries of the state.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wealth through grafts and underhand dealings. The relationship worked well till 1944 when as a
result of free elections the paradigm changed and a democratic dispensation was ushered in under
President Juan Arevalo succeeded by Jacobo Arbenz in 1951 elections. The democratic government
of Arevalo had an altogether different mindset. Both Arevalo and his successor Arbenz started on a
path of progressively reforming the society.
A comprehensive program for social uplift of the Guatemalan people was charted out. Its major
focus was on equitable distribution of national income, allowing civil liberties, empowering people
and most importantly attempting to reduce the monopolistic control of different sectors of the
economy by United Fruits Company. President Arbenz started planning to create a parallel railway
network which was to provide cheap accessibility and transportation to the people. He also planned
another port on the Atlantic to be run under the government control and building a hydro electric
plant providing cheap electricity in competition with the one made by the Americans. The prime
point of conflict, however, arose when the Arbenz government decided to implement agrarian
reforms in the country. It was aimed at buying and redistributing unused land to

Marketing Concepts Of Chipotle Mexican Grill
Introduction
The management of a company is the most important factor that determines its success. Flashing
business headlines such as a newly established company stealing the market share of an old
company makes it more interesting to learn about what the company is doing right. One example of
a company that has been in the news due to its continuous success is Chipotle.
The purpose of this report is to present a case study on Chipotle. Various web and printed
resources were used to compile this case study. The main focus of this paper is to use the different
marketing concepts learned and apply them to get a deeper understanding of a specific company
like Chipotle.
The different marketing concepts that can aid in understanding a company includes company
overview, mission and vision, organizational environment, competitive advantage, corporate and
business strategies, organizational structure, organizational culture, social responsibility, company
policies and company leadership. These concepts will be used in the discussion of findings for this
report.

Identifying And Evaluate Depression Among Graduate Students
The purpose of this literature review is to identify and evaluate depression among graduate students,
relations to student development theory, and provide treatment outcomes and implications for
student affairs professionals to practice. Depression is a disabling disorder that can disrupt an
individual s ability to function occupationally, socially, physiologically, and psychologically for
long periods at a time (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). In the U.S. alone, an estimated 17
million adults suffer from depression yearly and affecting collegestudents as the most common
psychological disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2014; Uqdah, Tyler, DeLoach, 2009).
At a higher risk for depression, graduate student s changes in environment, finances, social support,
and living conditions associated with beginning a graduate program can lead to depression (Uqdah,
Tyler, DeLoach, 2009). However, most studies and institutions on depression focus highly on
undergraduates and providing support and resources that guides undergraduate s student
development. Compared to undergraduates, the research, services, and resources provided to
graduate students are limited or not easily accessible. If depression is left untreated, depressive
symptoms can compromise student learning and affect academic performance, thus, enabling
negative behavior, such as alcohol abuse, unsafe sex, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation
(National Institute of Mental Health, 2012). However, if

Merapi Informative Speech
Today I am going to be talking about Mt Merapi. Mt Merapi is found on an island called
Indonesia, It is an active Stratovolcano and has been erupting constantly since 1548. The eruption
of this volcano that I will be focusing on would be when it had an outbreak on October 25th in the
year 2010. Before it erupted there was an earthquake that killed 5000 people. After the earthquake
the impact of the volcanic event killed more than 353 people.
The causes of Mt Merapi resulted into an earthquake, due to the indo Australian plate being
subducted beneath the Eurasian plate, causes a huge amount of heat generated. The cause of the
plates being subducted is due to convection currents when the Magma warms and rises, it allows
cooler magma to flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also use global positioning system (GPS) and laser beams take repeated measurements
between multiple points along the fault lines to determine plate movement. Seismometers are put
into the ground to sense seismic waves to predict earthquakes. It can be used to prepare people
for a volcanic activity or a tsunami flow. Due to the gas samples and chemical sensors we are able
to measure sulphur levels, so they can predict when the volcano is close to erupting. Thermal
imaging is used to detect heat around a volcano and as the heat increases the activity of the volcano

Joaquin Guzman El Chapo
Joaquin Guzman best known as El Chapo is the world s greatest drug lord. He has been captured
three times and has been able to escape twice, once in a laundry basket and the second time he
managed to escaped in an underground tunnel built in his shower cell. He was recently recaptured
after being fugitive for about six months. Joaquin entered the drugbusiness as a teenager and later
became in charge of the Sinaloa cartel. He shops and ships by some estimates more than half of all
the cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana that come into the United States (Penn).
Many argue that El Chapo is a really bad person that only does a lot of harm to the citizens in
Mexico, but what most don t know is that he actually helps some of them.... Show more content on

To understand this sentiment, consider the fact that out of the 120.8 million people who call
Mexico home, over half 52.3 percent, or roughly over 63 million live at or below the country s
poverty line. Couple that with a declining confidence in government (only one third of all
Mexicans trust elected officials), and you create a window for the population to turn elsewhere
for role models (Martinez). A large part of mexico lives in poverty because the lack of job
opportunities the government offers to the people. In a letter written to explain why they
marched in favor of El Chapo explain how Guzman helps people get jobs El Chapo and the drug
trade provide employment opportunities that pay well. A dream come true, in places where the
government does not lend a helping hand (Rueda). The drug business creates many jobs for
people to survive in such a corrupt country that cannot provide enough jobs. That drugs destroy.
Unfortunately, as I said, where I grew up there was no other way and there still isn t a way to
survive, no way to work in our economy to be able to make a living (Somaiya) El Chapo told
Pen in his interview as Somaiya explains. El Chapo began working in the drug business at a
young age. His family s poverty is what made Guzman join the cartels. Guzman started from the
bottom and worked his way up. Now he is incharge of the Sinaloa cartel and is a very rich man.

Bandura Social Learning Theory
Social learning theory (SLT), developed by psychologist Albert Bandura in 1977, laid the
framework by which people learn by observing a set of behaviors believed to be acceptable or
unacceptable (Wulfert, 2016). To further understand SLT, this paper discusses the concepts and
principles behind Bandura s theory, reviews its contribution to human behaviors, critiques it, and
considers the roles social learning plays in diversity, as well as in equality in economic and social
justice.
Social Learning Theory s Main Concepts and Principles SLT is grounded in the fact that humans
acquire behaviors throughout their lifetime by acquiring knowledge through observation and
modeling. People socially influence each other through their interactions, and typically change their
desirable behaviors due to positive or negative outcomes observed (Nabavi, 2012). Bandura notes
the fundamental elements of SLT include interaction of both individuals and situations. Learning
the effects of SLT from observing others behaviors and situations can directly influence a person s
choice, as both parts are a result of the other (Hanna, Crittenden, Crittenden, 2013). There are three
main principles Bandura proposed for SLT: a person s ability to learn through observation, self
regulation, and reciprocal determinism. People can learn new behavior through observation; this
can be acquired through direct or indirect observation (Grusec, 1992). This can be seen in Bandura
s Bobo doll experiment, in

Francisco Goyas The Third of May 1808 is a vivid representation of the atrocities of war during the

Romeo And Juliet Reflection
Clark, Michael
Mrs.Binion
La11, Period 1
October 2, 2017
Romeo and Juliet, a story about pain and sorrow. A story with ups and downs. Is that why it
entertains us? Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad?
Authors have used these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the
way he was raised. He has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother
enough to where she tried to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled
without a high school diploma, the people he met and how they changed his life.
In Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland 7:36 A.M., where a biracial baby was born to a
black father and white mother ( Take it Back, Logic) Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born. His
mother was a racist who would beat him and constantly talk down to him, even trying to kill him
one time. His father was out of the picture most of his life doing drugs that he got from his sons
(Logic s Brothers) who were Drug dealers and killers. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t
able to do anything. It was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. He
showed Robert life outside the ghetto and got him interested into rap, even encouraged him to
perform.
When Logic turned 17 he got expelled from high school and moved out of his house. He had to
maintain two jobs to support him and his rap career. While not much he would perform for Pitbull
and Ludacris when they came in town. Trying to do both was working for a while but eventually
he couldn t keep up with rent and ended up being homeless He struggled to live and rap until he
met his investor
His name is lenny. Lenny met up with Logic after a concert and told him that he believed in the
vision that was Logic and would fund him, he d give him a year to make it. So Robert did it, he
released his first album Young, Broke, Infamous . Because of how much recognition he made, he
released the 1st (out of a trilogy) Young Sinatra. Later he d release the 2nd and 3rd Young Sinatras.
Lil Dicky is a rapper who jokes when he raps. While he can make a good beat and a sick rap it s not
the same as a story which makes the difference in a good rapper.

Psychology, Theology and Spirituality: Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian Counseling
Summary
McMinn (2011) uses this book to bring out the importance of the use of spirituality (as related to
Christian faith) in psychological counseling. He describes the Christian Counselors as people who
are highly trained in counseling theory and techniques, in theology, and are personally disciplined to
mirror Christian attributes during and after counseling. (pg. 139)

4:4 6 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. He showed me reasons why I need
to pray in my situation. The Holy Spirit made me know I felt disappointed in God (sin). I
thought I could pray and He has to answer all prayers (pride). I meditated on Romans 12:3 (NIV)

help us admit our helplessness and dependence on the unmerited grace of God. It happened to me.

The Emancipation Proclamation By President Abraham Lincoln
After the Civil War the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 by President Abraham
Lincoln. The first paragraph of the Emancipation Proclamation states, That on the first day of
January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty three, all persons held as
slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion
against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive
Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize
and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or
any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom. These words to the African
Americans were their saving grace. This first section of the Emancipation Proclamationpromises the
freedom of African Americans through the protection of the American Government and the United
States military. This was the first time this had been promised to African Americans because during
the time of slavery all the protection that they had was from their master, so the promise of
protection from the American Government was a step forward that many African Americans did
not think that they would ever achieve.
Along with the Emancipation Proclamation came three Constitutional amendments. The very first
amendment added to the Constitution was the thirteenth amendment, and to fully understand the

Understand The Concept Of Play Essay
From an early age children are known to engage in a number of activities in which would feed
their curiosity alongside aiding their development. The main activity in which they would willingly
participate in would be pretend play; play is not something which is only done by children
however can be performed by adults and even animals.
In order to understand play and how it may benefit young children we must first be able to define
it, however this creates the initial issue. This is due to the fact that the concept of play is
disreputably difficult to define (Burghardt 2011). Although despite this we are able to split the
concept of play into four various aspects, as described by Linda Rose Krasnor and Debra J. Pepler
(1980), positive affect, flexibility, intrinsic movement and nonliterality.
Positive affect refers to the idea that individuals who seem as though they are enjoying themselves
whilst they are playing. Flexibility would then touch upon the idea that the play behaviours would

One classification of play would be object play; this would occur within younger children and
would traditionally begin with children that are approximately 5months. At 5 month the child
would use object play as a way to feed their curiosity, it would allow them to explore objects by
touching, feeling and seeing what they would be able to do with it. However as the child ages
to roughly 2years + they would begin to use more than one object and allow their imagination to
be free and would see objects being more then what they are. An example of this would include a
child seeing a block of bricks and using it to build a house. Another example can include a child

Effects Of The Battle Of Coral Harbor On Pearl Harbor
The Japanese saw the U.S. as a threat to their expansion aspirations in Asia. Their strategy was to
find a way to impede the U.S. long enough to finish their goal. This resulted in the attack of Pearl
Harbor. During this time, Japanese also set up offenses in American controlled regions in the
Pacific such as the Philippines, Guam and Midway islands. Under the leadership of General
Douglass MacArthur, some battles ended in defeat like the Philippines. American and Filipino
prisoners of the Battle of Bataan resulted in a Death March. Prisoners would either die going to

Drafting A Proper Network Design
Drafting a proper network design is a critical step in building a network infrastructure that
provides top notch performance while at the same time minimizing the administrative workload.
Network design should also accommodate potential future scalability issues, ensuring that the
network can grow with the organization while minimizing disruption and downtime. The
UMUC network design presented below presents a plan that includes these factors, along with
infrastructure longevity and security. It is essential that the proper physical medium be
deployed to ensure that the signals transported by the medium deliver a strong signal to all
intended locations. However, the quality of the signal must be balanced with cost and
regulatory considerations. So for the UMUC network, CAT6 UTP shall be installed (with the
exception of one classroom and the Admissions office) because it costs less than either fiber
optics or CAT6 STP (shielded twisted pair) and is capable of delivering gigabit speeds within
100 meters (nearly every location in the building). The Admissions office and classroom located
on the floor above the Admissions office will connect into the network using fiber optics (62.5
micron multi mode fiber) because the distance to each room from the main IT closet will be just
over 100 meters in length. Wireless media will implement the 802.11g/n standards with 802.11b
disabled to prevent the network from dropping down to a slow 11 Mbps if legacy systems were to

The Truth Behind The Underground Railroad
The Truth behind the Underground Railroad
Ronald Payne
Central High School
November 9, 2015
2nd Period Abstract Many people know of the famous slave system called The Underground
Railroad. Throughout this generations time in school this topic have came up numerous times in
our history classes. They mostly talk about the surface of the system and how, the most famous
conductor, Harriett Tubman freed the slaves. This essay is important because it will provide you
with in depth knowledge and background about the The Underground Railroad.
The Truth Behind the Underground Railroad The Underground Railroad is one the most Historic
events in African American History. This system was during the time of slavery and its goal was
to provide slaves an undetectable way to get to the North. A majority of blacks and few whites
called Conductors , referring to a train, helped blacks plan and travel through different landscapes to
reach the North. In my Research paper I will provide information on the Influential people in the
movement, the obstacles they had to overcome, and the results of the movement.
Influential People during the Movement
Thomas Garrett Thomas Garrett was one the few white Conductors who was recognized for his
work with the Railroad. Mr. Garrett was a Quaker Abolitionist who was at the end of the journey to

Racist Material At Their Age
With criminal records, blacks have a five percent chance of getting accepted into a job, but
whites have a seventeen percent chance of getting accepted into the same job. Blacks and other
races are being discriminated in school by their own peers and by teachers and principals. Even in
their work environment blacks are being treated unfairly. Law enforcement is also treating blacks
like every single one of them is a thug.
Blacks are being discriminated throughout the country by their peers in school and by their
teachers and principals. A black fifth grader came home one day and told his parents he was
being called a nigger. He was the only black child in his class and it started when the class started
reading a book which contained the word nigger. A fifth grade class reading a book that contains
such words can cause them to become racist in the future. Reading a book that has racist material
at their age can make them develop a racist attitude towards blacks and other races. This bad
attitude towards black children can destroy their self esteem and prides, making them feel that
their life has no value and that they re less than everybody else. Children learning slang terms like
nigger and bad representations of black people can change their view towards blacks for the rest
of their lives and it can even make them feel hostile towards blacks, an incident of this occurred at
the University of Mississippi. Three college students at the University of Mississippi hung a

courtesan. In this film, A young girl (whose name is Amiran) is abducted by her father s enemy
and sold to a brothel where she learns to read, write, sing, and dance. She becomes an
accomplished courtesan; in a song sequence which compromises time, we see her grow up while
learning how to sing and dance. This song marks the beginning and training of her courtesan
lifestyle. Towards the end of the film, we get another song sequence where Umrao Jaan
performs her poetry, Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston. I will analyze this song as the song speaks of
her sense of confusion, loss, and ache for home. In this song, Umrao has returned to her
hometown of Faizabad (from where she was abducted). She sings the song outside her
biological home. Umrao as a courtesan, was a sex worker who was often ostracized and
condemned from the society. Due to Umrao being known in society as a prostitute she is unable
to find fulfillment in love. Through her songs and dance we see how she expresses how much
she desires to live a life beyond her condemned situation. Umrao in her life has gone through
various periods of rejection and oppression in her life. Through her verses of poetry she express
her predicament and feelings of loneliness. In the finale of the film, Umrao returns to Faizabad.
She is asked to perform a song where in the town she is known as a stranger. As the song starts
we see a flashback of Umrao when she was younger with her brother which, tells us this song will
express how much it means for her to back in her old town and the sadness that she will convey.
Umrao as she sings the first line saying, What is this place, my friends you see her eyes start to
glisten with tears as she sings. She goes on to say What location is this. Where, as far one can
see, there s dust and only dust. She is saying that she is alone like she is living in a desert, and the
sadness and grief is overwhelming, that she cannot feel anything else other than sadness. Umrao
when she examines her life only feels sadness, grief, and bewilderment, that she is not aware

Humanities Reflection
Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I
enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me
thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a
much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having
a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I
agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing
informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the
humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world
definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at
times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too
much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was
fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way
to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself
and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary
Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because
art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the

Animal Farm, 1984 Essay
Animal farm and 1984
Napoleon, the leader of all the animals of the Rebellion, can be compared and contrasted with
Big Brother, the leader of all the people of 1984. Both Big Brother and Napoleon show the
qualities of a cruel ruler. Similar to Big Brother, Napoleon is a secretive plotter who works behind
the scenes rather than openly. However, unlike Napoleon, Big Brother periodically appears on the
television screen. Napoleon and Big Brother both work continually to weaken their rivals, whether
it is by removing Snowball or eliminate Rutherford. Both place importance on complicated
ceremonies and parades to prevent their workers from thinking about their schemes. Napoleon s

The characters in Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty Four have similar and distinct characteristics,
which put towards in the growth of theme. Big Brother and Napolean, unrelenting and sly,
established a totalitarian group. Winston and Boxer are true followers of their leaders, they always
thing the leader is right.
All together these two books share many features, George Orwell is trying to show Totalitarianism
/Animalism and fascism. He has set the two stories very well in the way he has compared and
contrasted the characters to show different points of political aspects.
Short Summary of Animal Farm
Animal Farm is an allegory of the Russian Revolution, it is based on certain aspects of the
Revolution. For example, revolting the government, all of the animals on the farm group
together to overthrow their cruel owner because they believe they are not being treated as well
as they should be. When the animals come into power after overthrowing their master the pigs
consider themselves to be the dictators on the farm, snowball one of the pigs starts to plan
building a windmill to give power to the farm but Napoleon is not happy that snowball is leading
the animals in thought, so he starts blaspheming him, the animals are agreeing for Snowballs idea
but now Napoleon is outraged. Napoleon lets out a high pitch squeal and out of nowhere a pack of
dogs he raised from puppies ran after Snowball and chased him into

Immigration Negative Essay
Immigration is a touchy subject for many people in the United States, and it seems like depending
on which side of the political spectrum one falls there will be some radically different answers
given as to whether it benefits or harms the American economy. This dilemma has been one faced
by new Americans almost as long as the United States has existed, with fierce anti immigrant
feelings extending back to the days of the Know Nothings and beyond. This paper will seek to set
the record right, and will show that immigrationis actually a good thing for the American economy,
providing evidence that is strong enough to convince readers from any side of the political aisle.
Immigrants, traditionally, have filled a key niche in the American economy by taking on roles
that other American citizens might not necessarily want to do, or that they will do but for a
significantly higher pay. It is important to remember that, during the founding days of this
country, and especially of this city, many of the jobs that were needed to actually get things done
were manned by immigrants. Many of these jobs were given to Irish and Italians, men and
women who had come fresh from Europe in search of a new life, and through their contributions
we were able to build and expand in ways never before expected. Great feats like the Empire State
Building, the Transcontinental Railway, and others, were all accomplished as a result of immigrant
labor.
These lower paying jobs are still crucial to

What Are The Similarities Between Genesis And The Gilgamesh
In The Genesis and The Epic of Gilgamesh there are three main similarities. These similarities are
the flood, the food, and the snake. In Genesis God sent a flood to destroy all of mankind, just like
how the gods sent a flood to also destroy mankind in Gilgamesh. In both stories God chose
someone to build boat to restart mankind, in Genesis he chose Noah, and in Gilgamesh he chose
Utnapishtim. The food plays different role in each story. In Genesis food was what it took for
them to look their immortality, however in Gilgamesh food was needed in order to achieve
immortality. The snake is what it took for the characters to lose immortality. However, there
were different outcomes of the snake either taking food or saying you should eat the food. In
Gilgamesh we were told about a great flood that struck Shurrupak. A god called Enlil became
mad at the city because it was very noisey due to its growing population, he complained that he
can t sleep at night. He told the other gods about his complaint and they agreed they should wipe
out the mortals. In an attempt to destroy mankind he creates a flood. Ea, another god, tells a man
called Utnapishtim to build a boat out of his house in a dream. Utnapishtim does as he was told.
Utnapishtim asks Ea how to make the others believe him. Ea says to tell the others that Enilil was
angry with Utnapishtim, so Utnapishtim may no longer live on land. Utnapishtim builds a seven
deck boat. When the boat was set into water he took his family, relatives, animals, and craftsmen
who helped him build the boat. The flood lasts for six days and six nights. Utnapishtim sees a
mountain, the boat floats towards it. Utnapishtim realeses three birds, one after the other, in an
attempt to find shore. The first two birds return but the third, a raven, doesn t return. Utnapishtim
then knows that there is shore for him to go to. Utnapishtim gives sacrafices of cane, cedar, and
myrtle. Ishtar tells the others gods about Enlil and how he started the flood. Utnapishtim was then
blessed with eternal life. This story is very similar to the story of Noah in Gensis. The flood in
Noah was also to a punishment for mankind. Utnapishtim and Noah were chosen to build an ark to
survive the flood and then

Microsoft s Operating Systems And Security Features
Microsoft Windows has evolved into an operating system that is very reliable and dependable
when it comes to getting task done on a daily basis when a computer system is needed. In 1975,
Gates and Allen form a partnership called Microsoft. Like most start ups, Microsoft begins small,
but has a huge vision a computer on every desktop and in every home (Microsoft.com). In this
paper I will discuss the history of Microsoft s Operating systems and security features available
during each stage of advancement over the years. In 1980 MSDOS was created which was used
to be able to execute programs but there was a learning curve when it came to the commands
that was needed to navigate around the operating system. Security and virus protection was not
thought of during this time because a typical infection we are use of in todays world was less
effective during the beginning of the Windows OS and the Internet was not a factor. MSDOS
was a wide open system where anybody could access and edit any file. Windows 1.0 was released
in 1985 and added a interface feel to the operating system which made it easier for users to
navigate. Now, rather than typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and
click your way through screens, or windows. Bill Gates says, It is unique software designed for
the serious PC user (Microsoft.com). In Microsoft s official history of Windows, it recounts that
Windows 1.0 shipped with several programs, including MS DOS file management,

Native American Reaction To Native Americans
It has been highly debated whether or not the Native Americans initially had a positive or negative
reaction to the foreign settlers that began to come in large waves to a previously unexplored
continent. There are many historians who claim that the Native Americans immediately reacted
with distrust to the new arrivals, and in some cases and to certain extents this is true. However, it
has been shown that the Natives at first viewed the Whites and Spanish with curiosity and courtesy
rather than initial violence. The Indians were very intrigued with the weaponry of the new peoples
and the clothes they wore, as well as the language they spoke. They did not, at the time, realize the
true intentions of the aliens . It was only after the grievances that were caused as a result of their
expeditions that they began to react to them with distrust and hate. It has been shown that the
Native Americans initially saw the new foreigners as objects of curiosity and interest rather than
objects of wrath and destruction. This curiosity stemmed from many factors such as the clothing
that the new comers wore, the weaponry that these people held and wielded with such confidence,
as well as the language and culture which had never been encountered before. Initially each of the
Native American tribes were very interested in the culture exhibited by the Europeans as they began
to populate the Eastern Coast and the South Americas. Some of the most impactful ideologies that

Research Paper On Arc De Seanmphe

the Place de l Г©toile. After Napoleon s incredible win at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, he
commanded the Arc de Triomphe be built in order to praise the accomplishments of the French
military. The arch, planned by Jean François Thérèse Chalgrin, is 164 feet high and 148 feet

Fancy sculptures praising military triumphs of the Revolution and the First Empire were
completed on the exterior of the arch s four platforms by François Rude, Jean Pierre Cortot,
and Antoine Etex. The most acclaimed of those sculptures is Rude s Departure of the Volunteers
of 1792, also known as La Marseillaise. Different surfaces are embellished with the names of
several officers and fights. A stairway of 284 steps extends from the lowest point to the highest
point of the landmark; a lift goes partially up the landmark. However, to get to the top, where a
watching deck is found, you have to climb the rest of the way. A little gallery with interesting
displays on the history behind the arch lies one level beneath the observation area. Underneath the
arch is France s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from 1921. A fire of recognition, which was first lit
in 1923, is revived each night. A celebration announcing the creation of the 1918 peace negotiation
that finished World War I is held at the Arc de Triomphe each year.
The Arc de Triomphe keeps on acting as a famous image of France, to the nation itself and to the

Who Is Vlad The Impaler Real
Everyone knows the name of Dracula. The infamous story and name began with the 1897 gothic
horror novel written by Bram Stoker. Whether you have read the book or watched the multiple film
recreations you know, and recognize the plot of Count Dracula s devious intentions. So while many
individuals will enjoy the blood sucking, and curdling films, shows, and novels this Halloween
they probably will be unaware of the true story of Count Dracula. The tale of Dracula didn t
actually instantaneously sprout from the brain of the Irish author I previously mentioned. He was
inspired by a far more sinister plot line... only this one was real, and the main character s name was
Vlad III.
Vlad III, a bloodthirsty soul who was also a medieval prince of Wallachia around the time of 1448
until his death, happened to also be known as DrДѓculea. His other nickname, Vlad the Impaler,
gives you kind of an idea about the type of dude he was. Vlad often terrorized those who he
found to be enemies using exceptional amounts of cruelty. If Vlad the Impaler wanted you dead,
most likely he would choose the sadistic, and fear creation route. By which I mean he would
execute you via impalement. He was in a sense a very great military leader in a sense. He made up

previous sexual encounters. For some time, America s love affair with the young, handsome news
reporter seemed as if he could do no wrong because we loved who he was. High profile men like
Matt Lauer must be shocked with women coming out and having any strength. Starting at the
beginning of his journey at NBC newsin 2001 he already had a sexual relation with an office
employee. Already at the very beginning of the career Lauer was starting his sexual harassment
reputation. That wasn t the only sexual encounter he has had with employees. In 2014 at the
Sochi Olympics he had inappropriate conduct with another employee, yet another one. Many
years later and he still proceeds to participate in inappropriate sexual behavior with his
colleagues. How many instances does it take before it becomes serious? Lauer proved it wasn t
a serious issue in his opinion when in 2016 Meredith Viera found sex toys in his dressing room
that he gave to a woman working in his office. Having Viera find the sex toy and later having a
colleague report about Lauer giving her a sex toy was proof that it wasn t just for his wife who he
has been married to the whole time working at NBC News. But then again woman have no power
so it s okay for men to treat them this way. For all the attention Matt

The Impact Of Mmp On New Zealand
Since MMP has been implemented into New Zealand, it has allowed for a wider diversity of
parties to be in parliament. On account of that, while it is still possible for a party to win the
majority seats in parliament, it is very difficult to do so; Church (2015) states that this has not
happened in the last four elections. As a result, MMP has impacted on the relationship between the
executive and parliament by making the executive to make arrangements between themselves and
minor parties, in order to stay in power. This is also for the executive to be able to pass votes of
confidence and supply, as well as get potential Bills that they want implemented, to be passed
through parliament. Since 2008, John Key, Prime Ministerand leader of the National party has had
enhanced confidence and supply arrangements with minor parties, consisting of United Future,
ACT and Maori party, in order to stay in the executive. An enhanced confidence and supply
arrangement, is when the minor parties are appointed ministerial posts outside of cabinet, and only
be bound by cabinet responsibility when it involves their portfolio or have been involved in an
development of policy that ended with an agreed position. As Boston and Bullock (2009) note,
these enhanced arrangement is very unusual, as New Zealandis the only country to have these in
politics. Sweden has experimented with similar arrangements, termed contract parliamentarians,
however it did not include members of non government

Likewise her old friend, Moira. Moira is Offred s best friend from college, Moira is a lesbian and
strongly believes that women and men must be treated equally); she clearly shows/includes
female cleverness and independence. Her angry and uncooperative nature contrasts harshly with

Persuasive Essay On International Adoption
In today s society, the idea of adoption is an open and welcome one. When an adoptive family
begins to explore the idea of adopting a child, it is easy for them to quickly become overwhelmed
with information, questions and decisions (American Adoptions, Inc). However, one of the biggest
problem most adoptive parents could run into is whether they are wanting to adopt domestically or
internationally. With the number of celebrities advertising the ease of adopting internationally and
the publicizing conditions the orphans live in it makes American families want to adopt
internationally. The number of children in the United States in foster care approved for adoptionand
the number of newborns born unwanted does not make the news so it domestic adoption is not as
glamorous. Domestic adoption should be the first choice to help improve our country and give the
children born in the United States a chance at a family.
In recent years international adoption has been presented as an easier and quicker adoption
process. The process is not as easy as it seems and some countries forbid adoption of their children
to families in the United States. When adopting from a different country a person must be in
agreement with adopting different ethnic or racial groups. Depending upon the country from which
you adopt, international adoption can be very costly, ranging anywhere between $32,000 to
$66,000 dollars, depending on the child s country of origin. Travel costs to the country

Cafo s Essay
Concentrated animal feeding operations, also known as CAFO s, are large industrialized
agricultural operations that confine thousands of animals in an enclosed location for feeding,
breeding and production farming purposes. These operations are taking over smaller, family run
farms that are raising animals ethically and environmentally friendly. CAFO s are raising beef
cattle, dairy cattle, poultry, fish and other animals for mass production to feed the ever growing
demand for meatand poultry consumption. These large scale operations are cutting out the small
farms that cannot compete in the food production industry.
This inhumane way of raising animals is upsetting many environmentalists who see this type of
farming as animal cruelty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mass production creates a scale of economy that allows the finished product to be available
to consumers at a lower cost. CAFO s are an economic necessity that allows enough meat, poultry,
fish and other animal products to be produced to feed humans globally. While some small farms
may not be able to compete, there is a trickle down effect that helps boost the regional and national
economies. CAFO s create local jobs in rural areas, increase tax dollars and also support other
economic development.
CAFO s are a direct response to globalization, as well as to increasing demand as the population
continues to grow. People want to buy a food product that is of the same quality, a standardized
product, every time. With the help of technological advancement, humans can harness the tools they
have available to produce enough food, therefore, more farms should switch to the best methods
available. Environmentalists who oppose CAFO s are fundamental Luddites and will only obstruct

  • 2. First Day Of Shemu Essay Today marked the first day of Shemu, which is the first day of the season of the harvest. I didn t want to wake up at sunrise this morning, but today was extremely special to us farmers. We no longer have to farm, but instead relax. We started to harvest our crops that we have grown for the past 5 months. The crops that my family and I have grown are melons, vegetables, flax, and figs. I harvested the flax first since I know that the priests will need to convert the flax into linens for their garments. Maybe I ll even get to see the Pharaoh at the marketplace tomorrow! Since I m part of one of the lower social classes, I won t have a mummification that s as good as one of a scribe or a priest. For all social classes, however, your organs are removed and places in sealed canopic jars, you are wrapped in bandages with amulets, and you re placed in a sarcophagus. After they were buried in the ground with all of their possessions, the deceased would follow Anubis to a hall in the Underworld. Osiris, other deities, 42 judges, and Thoth were to judge you based on how heavy your heart was compared to a feather. If your heart weighed more than a feather, you would be eaten by Amit, a half lion, half hippopotamus. If your heart weighed less than a feather, you would be allowed to go to Iaru, or paradise. The only way you would be able to make it here is if your soul could make it out alive on a journey on the boat of Ra through a lake of fire, crocodiles, snakes, and Apophis, who was condemned to sink the boat of Ra. Wow, that s a lot of information. A sort of hatred towards our government and our people transpires among the Natives, and rightfully so. There are many reasons for the Natives to feel exploited, yet protesting the pipeline and fighting back to the American political system can give Natives a feeling of triumph and accomplishment if they are able to successfully halt the construction of the pipeline. One side, vouching for domination, while another for freedom; One side slaughtering and discriminating due to nationality, race, and religion; the other fighting against for freedom, sovereignty, and peace. In reality, the war was not as black and white as that. Though the Axis Powers did commit heinous Crimes against humanity (I.E Holocaust, Murder of millions, Attempt at world domination etc.), the allies also had their own dark moments. It had such an impact that people like Naomi, in real life still are haunted by it. The Psychological impacts put upon the Japanese Canadians, weren t just the horrible experiences, or the separation of family and friends. Rather the impact due to the discrimination of the Japanese Canadians by the government and the rest of society had a deeper impact. The hatred of the Japanese Canadians by the Government and the people had an Enormous impact on the people s well being, and the way they viewed themselves. The government after the relocation sold most of the properties and confiscated possessions of the Japanese Canadians. • 6. Climate Change And Urban Environment Change in climate is becoming a major concern on a global scale, as it has had a tremendous impact on urban environment. Oxford dictionary defines climate change as: A change in global or regional climate patterns, [...] attributed to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. (Oxford Dictionary 2015) The increasing amount of green house gases (GHG) released in the atmosphere is causing significant changes in the environment leading to unpredictable weather patterns and warming of the climate system is putting a great pressure on city development and infrastructures. This essay outlines three problems caused by climate change in urban areas, and evaluates the effectiveness of some of the mitigation and adaptation strategies. This essay reasons that mitigation and adaptation strategies need to work in synergy in order to address the situation effectively. The three problems caused by climate change are, rise in sea level, varied energy demand, and water scarcity. Firstly, the impact on costal areas contributing to sea level rise has made low lying cities vulnerable to them. Hunt and Watkiss (2011, p. 32) estimates that a 50 m raise in sea level would render Mumbai s informal communities in severe despair. Moreover, climate change will lead to variation in energy demand. With the birth of the state, the concept of sovereigntyoriginated. This included both internal and external sovereignty; however, the latter was recognized much later after the end of the Thirty Years War and the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia. • 9. Identifying And Evaluate Depression Among Graduate Students The purpose of this literature review is to identify and evaluate depression among graduate students, relations to student development theory, and provide treatment outcomes and implications for student affairs professionals to practice. Depression is a disabling disorder that can disrupt an individual s ability to function occupationally, socially, physiologically, and psychologically for long periods at a time (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). In the U.S. alone, an estimated 17 million adults suffer from depression yearly and affecting collegestudents as the most common psychological disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2014; Uqdah, Tyler, DeLoach, 2009). At a higher risk for depression, graduate student s changes in environment, finances, social support, and living conditions associated with beginning a graduate program can lead to depression (Uqdah, Tyler, DeLoach, 2009). However, most studies and institutions on depression focus highly on undergraduates and providing support and resources that guides undergraduate s student development. Compared to undergraduates, the research, services, and resources provided to graduate students are limited or not easily accessible. If depression is left untreated, depressive symptoms can compromise student learning and affect academic performance, thus, enabling negative behavior, such as alcohol abuse, unsafe sex, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation (National Institute of Mental Health, 2012). He has been captured three times and has been able to escape twice, once in a laundry basket and the second time he managed to escaped in an underground tunnel built in his shower cell. He was recently recaptured after being fugitive for about six months. Joaquin entered the drugbusiness as a teenager and later became in charge of the Sinaloa cartel. He shops and ships by some estimates more than half of all the cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana that come into the United States (Penn). A large part of mexico lives in poverty because the lack of job opportunities the government offers to the people. In a letter written to explain why they marched in favor of El Chapo explain how Guzman helps people get jobs El Chapo and the drug trade provide employment opportunities that pay well. • 12. Bandura Social Learning Theory Social learning theory (SLT), developed by psychologist Albert Bandura in 1977, laid the framework by which people learn by observing a set of behaviors believed to be acceptable or unacceptable (Wulfert, 2016). To further understand SLT, this paper discusses the concepts and principles behind Bandura s theory, reviews its contribution to human behaviors, critiques it, and considers the roles social learning plays in diversity, as well as in equality in economic and social justice. Social Learning Theory s Main Concepts and Principles SLT is grounded in the fact that humans acquire behaviors throughout their lifetime by acquiring knowledge through observation and modeling. People socially influence each other through their interactions, and typically change their desirable behaviors due to positive or negative outcomes observed (Nabavi, 2012). Bandura notes the fundamental elements of SLT include interaction of both individuals and situations. Learning the effects of SLT from observing others behaviors and situations can directly influence a person s choice, as both parts are a result of the other (Hanna, Crittenden, Crittenden, 2013). There are three main principles Bandura proposed for SLT: a person s ability to learn through observation, self regulation, and reciprocal determinism. People can learn new behavior through observation; this can be acquired through direct or indirect observation (Grusec, 1992). This can be seen in Bandura s Bobo doll experiment, in ... • 14. Romeo And Juliet Reflection Clark, Michael Mrs.Binion La11, Period 1 October 2, 2017 Romeo and Juliet, a story about pain and sorrow. A story with ups and downs. Is that why it entertains us? Do we like to hear about pain and misery and the out come of it, good or bad? Authors have used these stories since Shakespeare and Logic. Logic is an outlier because of the way he was raised. He has seen people he loves die and raped in front of him, hated by his mother enough to where she tried to kill him multiple times and how he got out of it. How he struggled without a high school diploma, the people he met and how they changed his life. In Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland 7:36 A.M., where a biracial baby was born to a black father and white mother ( Take it Back, Logic) Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born. His mother was a racist who would beat him and constantly talk down to him, even trying to kill him one time. His father was out of the picture most of his life doing drugs that he got from his sons (Logic s Brothers) who were Drug dealers and killers. He watched his sisters get raped and wasn t able to do anything. It was going down hill until 14 year old Robert met his mentor Solomon. He showed Robert life outside the ghetto and got him interested into rap, even encouraged him to perform. When Logic turned 17 he got expelled from high school and moved out of his house. He had to maintain two jobs to support him and his rap career. While not much he would perform for Pitbull and Ludacris when they came in town. Trying to do both was working for a while but eventually he couldn t keep up with rent and ended up being homeless He struggled to live and rap until he met his investor His name is lenny. Lenny met up with Logic after a concert and told him that he believed in the vision that was Logic and would fund him, he d give him a year to make it. So Robert did it, he released his first album Young, Broke, Infamous . Because of how much recognition he made, he released the 1st (out of a trilogy) Young Sinatra. The first paragraph of the Emancipation Proclamation states, That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom. These words to the African Americans were their saving grace. This first section of the Emancipation Proclamationpromises the freedom of African Americans through the protection of the American Government and the United States military. This was the first time this had been promised to African Americans because during the time of slavery all the protection that they had was from their master, so the promise of protection from the American Government was a step forward that many African Americans did not think that they would ever achieve. • 17. Understand The Concept Of Play Essay From an early age children are known to engage in a number of activities in which would feed their curiosity alongside aiding their development. The main activity in which they would willingly participate in would be pretend play; play is not something which is only done by children however can be performed by adults and even animals. In order to understand play and how it may benefit young children we must first be able to define it, however this creates the initial issue. This is due to the fact that the concept of play is disreputably difficult to define (Burghardt 2011). Although despite this we are able to split the concept of play into four various aspects, as described by Linda Rose Krasnor and Debra J. Pepler (1980), positive affect, flexibility, intrinsic movement and nonliterality. Positive affect refers to the idea that individuals who seem as though they are enjoying themselves whilst they are playing. • 19. Drafting A Proper Network Design Drafting a proper network design is a critical step in building a network infrastructure that provides top notch performance while at the same time minimizing the administrative workload. Network design should also accommodate potential future scalability issues, ensuring that the network can grow with the organization while minimizing disruption and downtime. The UMUC network design presented below presents a plan that includes these factors, along with infrastructure longevity and security. It is essential that the proper physical medium be deployed to ensure that the signals transported by the medium deliver a strong signal to all intended locations. However, the quality of the signal must be balanced with cost and regulatory considerations. So for the UMUC network, CAT6 UTP shall be installed (with the exception of one classroom and the Admissions office) because it costs less than either fiber optics or CAT6 STP (shielded twisted pair) and is capable of delivering gigabit speeds within 100 meters (nearly every location in the building). The Admissions office and classroom located on the floor above the Admissions office will connect into the network using fiber optics (62.5 micron multi mode fiber) because the distance to each room from the main IT closet will be just over 100 meters in length. • 22. Analysis Of Umrao Jaan In the film Umrao Jaan, the story is narrated by a woman who was kidnapped at a young age. Umrao Jaan is a courtesan genre film in Bollywood. This genre often portrays the life of a courtesan. In this film, A young girl (whose name is Amiran) is abducted by her father s enemy and sold to a brothel where she learns to read, write, sing, and dance. She becomes an accomplished courtesan; in a song sequence which compromises time, we see her grow up while learning how to sing and dance. This song marks the beginning and training of her courtesan lifestyle. Towards the end of the film, we get another song sequence where Umrao Jaan performs her poetry, Yeh Kya Jagah Hai Doston. I will analyze this song as the song speaks of her sense of confusion, loss, and ache for home. In this song, Umrao has returned to her hometown of Faizabad (from where she was abducted). She sings the song outside her biological home. Umrao as a courtesan, was a sex worker who was often ostracized and condemned from the society. Due to Umrao being known in society as a prostitute she is unable to find fulfillment in love. Through her songs and dance we see how she expresses how much she desires to live a life beyond her condemned situation. Umrao in her life has gone through various periods of rejection and oppression in her life. Through her verses of poetry she express her predicament and feelings of loneliness. In the finale of the film, Umrao returns to Faizabad. She is asked to perform a song where in the town she is known as a stranger. As the song starts we see a flashback of Umrao when she was younger with her brother which, tells us this song will express how much it means for her to back in her old town and the sadness that she will convey. Umrao as she sings the first line saying, What is this place, my friends you see her eyes start to glisten with tears as she sings. She goes on to say What location is this. Where, as far one can see, there s dust and only dust. She is saying that she is alone like she is living in a desert, and the sadness and grief is overwhelming, that she cannot feel anything else other than sadness. • 23. Humanities Reflection Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the ... Both Big Brother and Napoleon show the qualities of a cruel ruler. Similar to Big Brother, Napoleon is a secretive plotter who works behind the scenes rather than openly. However, unlike Napoleon, Big Brother periodically appears on the television screen. Napoleon and Big Brother both work continually to weaken their rivals, whether it is by removing Snowball or eliminate Rutherford. • 25. Immigration Negative Essay Immigration is a touchy subject for many people in the United States, and it seems like depending on which side of the political spectrum one falls there will be some radically different answers given as to whether it benefits or harms the American economy. This dilemma has been one faced by new Americans almost as long as the United States has existed, with fierce anti immigrant feelings extending back to the days of the Know Nothings and beyond. This paper will seek to set the record right, and will show that immigrationis actually a good thing for the American economy, providing evidence that is strong enough to convince readers from any side of the political aisle. Immigrants, traditionally, have filled a key niche in the American economy by taking on roles that other American citizens might not necessarily want to do, or that they will do but for a significantly higher pay. It is important to remember that, during the founding days of this country, and especially of this city, many of the jobs that were needed to actually get things done were manned by immigrants. Many of these jobs were given to Irish and Italians, men and women who had come fresh from Europe in search of a new life, and through their contributions we were able to build and expand in ways never before expected. Great feats like the Empire State Building, the Transcontinental Railway, and others, were all accomplished as a result of immigrant labor. These lower paying jobs are still crucial to ... • 29. What Are The Similarities Between Genesis And The Gilgamesh In The Genesis and The Epic of Gilgamesh there are three main similarities. These similarities are the flood, the food, and the snake. In Genesis God sent a flood to destroy all of mankind, just like how the gods sent a flood to also destroy mankind in Gilgamesh. In both stories God chose someone to build boat to restart mankind, in Genesis he chose Noah, and in Gilgamesh he chose Utnapishtim. The food plays different role in each story. In Genesis food was what it took for them to look their immortality, however in Gilgamesh food was needed in order to achieve immortality. The snake is what it took for the characters to lose immortality. However, there were different outcomes of the snake either taking food or saying you should eat the food. In Gilgamesh we were told about a great flood that struck Shurrupak. A god called Enlil became mad at the city because it was very noisey due to its growing population, he complained that he can t sleep at night. He told the other gods about his complaint and they agreed they should wipe out the mortals. In an attempt to destroy mankind he creates a flood. Ea, another god, tells a man called Utnapishtim to build a boat out of his house in a dream. Utnapishtim does as he was told. Utnapishtim asks Ea how to make the others believe him. Ea says to tell the others that Enilil was angry with Utnapishtim, so Utnapishtim may no longer live on land. Utnapishtim builds a seven deck boat. When the boat was set into water he took his family, relatives, animals, and craftsmen who helped him build the boat. The flood lasts for six days and six nights. Utnapishtim sees a mountain, the boat floats towards it. Utnapishtim realeses three birds, one after the other, in an attempt to find shore. The first two birds return but the third, a raven, doesn t return. Utnapishtim then knows that there is shore for him to go to. Utnapishtim gives sacrafices of cane, cedar, and myrtle. Ishtar tells the others gods about Enlil and how he started the flood. Utnapishtim was then blessed with eternal life. This story is very similar to the story of Noah in Gensis. In this paper I will discuss the history of Microsoft s Operating systems and security features available during each stage of advancement over the years. In 1980 MSDOS was created which was used to be able to execute programs but there was a learning curve when it came to the commands that was needed to navigate around the operating system. Security and virus protection was not thought of during this time because a typical infection we are use of in todays world was less effective during the beginning of the Windows OS and the Internet was not a factor. MSDOS was a wide open system where anybody could access and edit any file. Windows 1.0 was released in 1985 and added a interface feel to the operating system which made it easier for users to navigate. Now, rather than typing MS‑DOS commands, you just move a mouse to point and click your way through screens, or windows. Native American Reaction To Native Americans It has been highly debated whether or not the Native Americans initially had a positive or negative reaction to the foreign settlers that began to come in large waves to a previously unexplored continent. There are many historians who claim that the Native Americans immediately reacted with distrust to the new arrivals, and in some cases and to certain extents this is true. However, it has been shown that the Natives at first viewed the Whites and Spanish with curiosity and courtesy rather than initial violence. The Indians were very intrigued with the weaponry of the new peoples and the clothes they wore, as well as the language they spoke. They did not, at the time, realize the true intentions of the aliens . It was only after the grievances that were caused as a result of their expeditions that they began to react to them with distrust and hate. It has been shown that the Native Americans initially saw the new foreigners as objects of curiosity and interest rather than objects of wrath and destruction. This curiosity stemmed from many factors such as the clothing that the new comers wore, the weaponry that these people held and wielded with such confidence, as well as the language and culture which had never been encountered before. On account of that, while it is still possible for a party to win the majority seats in parliament, it is very difficult to do so; Church (2015) states that this has not happened in the last four elections. As a result, MMP has impacted on the relationship between the executive and parliament by making the executive to make arrangements between themselves and minor parties, in order to stay in power. This is also for the executive to be able to pass votes of confidence and supply, as well as get potential Bills that they want implemented, to be passed through parliament. Since 2008, John Key, Prime Ministerand leader of the National party has had enhanced confidence and supply arrangements with minor parties, consisting of United Future, ACT and Maori party, in order to stay in the executive.
