Essay on The Jaguar Smile
The Jaguar Smile: A Nicaraguan Journey written by Salman Rushdie, is a non fiction book that
gives the reader insight to the internal turmoil taking place in the nation of Nicaragua. Salman
Rushdie is a British Indian novelist who gained his fame for his fantastical novels about the post
colonial relationship between cultures of the East and West. Rushdie became interested in
Nicaraguan affairs when the Regan administration started its war against Nicaragua. I was myself
the child of a successful revolt against a great power, my consciousness the product of the triumph
of the Indian Revolution (p.4). Rushdie made his trip to Nicaragua in July of 1986. He came to

He quoted Ortega as saying that Reagan was worse than Hitler . The economy of Nicaragua was
hugely dependent on imports, and US influence was of enormous importance. However, relations
between the two nations began to plummet as the Cold War heightened. The USSR had recently
funded a communications site on Nicaraguan soil to help them communicate with other socialist
nations. With a rising fear of the USSR and other socialist nations, the US immediately accused it
of being a spy base. Not shortly afterwards the US began to take action against Nicaragua by
issuing an economic blockade. Because the Nicaraguan economy relied so heavily on imports, this
had a profound effect and contributed to the collapse of the Nicaraguan economy. It was impossible
to spend even a day in Nicaragua without becoming aware of the huge and unrelenting pressure
being exerted on the country by the giant standing on the northern front (p.24). While the USSR
and Cuba funded the Nicaraguan army, the US financed the contras. The Contras were the various
rebel groups that opposed the FSLN. The Contras received both overt and covert military and
financial support from the US through the CIA. The goal in supporting the Contras was to establish
a friendly government in Nicaragua and to steer them away from socialist views. With the great
imposing influence from the north, and the blockade of

Descriptive Statistics And Its Impact On The Visualization...
Introduction Statistics, the cornerstone of any empirical study, are the foundation for analyses. In
this instance, descriptive statistics, which are data points that describe the distinct qualities of a
population, will be explored. Descriptive statistics, the first step of analyzing data, allow for the
values to be represented, summarized, and interpreted in a meaningful, but simple, way. Exploring
descriptive statisticsmay provide for the appearance of a pattern or aid in the visualization of the
collective information; however, researchers are not able to establish conclusions based on these
statistics. Another aspect of statistics is frequency, which is the number of times that each variable
occurs during the study. Descriptive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of the experiment conducted was to determine the correlation, if any, between Texas A M
student alcohol consumption each week and the number of classes missed per week. Given the
abilities and constraints of descriptive statistics, choosing to focus on this type of statistic allowed
for the student to properly view the overall information, since there were many interacting values.
Method
In this study, the participants were randomly selected throughout a two week period (N = 35).
The people were all Texas A M students, ranging from freshman to senior classifications (M =
2.71, SD = 1.07, freshman to senior recorded as 1 to 4). The continuous predictors for this
experiment were the participants ages and how many alcoholic beverages that they said they
consumed per week. The participants had a mean age of of 20.43 (SD = 1.58). The variables in this
study were how many classes a student missed per week, how many hours they were taking,
how likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking, and how enjoyable class was after a
night of consuming alcohol. How likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking and how
enjoyable class was the morning after drinking were rated on a scale from 1 to 10. However, the
scale for likelihood to miss class after a night of consuming alcohol was with 1 being unlikely and
with 10 being most likely. Whereas, for the variable of how enjoyable class was

It s non experimental because human characteristics cannot be experimentally manipulated

How Did Conficius Bring Peace And Justice
Conficius grew up in a time where feudal lords where constantly fighting each other for control
because the government was weak. As a result, Conficius never forgot his childhood misery
caused by the horrendous atrocities committed by the rulers. Since his mom work was not enough
to survive for both of them, he started working at a really young age, which provided him with the
opportunity to understand the people s lives. Instead of learning the art of fighting, Conficius read
through many books seeking one solution that would bring peace and justice to his people.
Conficius main goal was to end corruption and restore peace, but he needed a government position
to implement his policies. He believed that the differences between classes would

Summary Of Peace Like A River By Leif Enger
We and the world, my children, will always be at war. Retreat is impossible. Arm yourselves.
(Enger 4). In Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger, writes about a family, the Lands, that lives in a
little town called Roofing, Minnesota. Our narrator is Rueben, a 10 year old boy with severe
asthma. The father is Jeramiah, a local school janitor who performs miracles for only Rueben to
see. Then there is the sister Swede (9) and the eldest brother Davy (16). This humble, religious
familyis caught up in a messy situation when Jeremiah witnesses two boys by the name of
Tommy Basca and Israel Finch beat up a girl named Dolly. Jeremiah comes to her rescue and beats
the boys off of her. Dolly is coincidentally Davy Land s girlfriend. Tommy and Israel... Show more

When Rueban was born, he was not breathing. In fact, he was not breathing for twelve minutes.
His lungs did not work properly from the start of his life. Presently in the story, Rueben still gets
severe asthma attacks that could kill him. He draped a blanket over my head for a steam tent.
Immediately it was so hot under here I imagined my face darkening and rising like a loaf of yeast
bread, but my chest did start to loosen, (Enger 20). This demonstrates harshness in the world by
how a loving, faithful, good family has to have one child with a disease that can kill him. Jeremiah
is peaceful, Catholic, person who devotes his life to God, but still has a child with asthma. Jeremiah
is doing everything right in life, but still has to worry if his son will make it through the night
without an asthma attack

Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism
Environmentalist and Capitalism
The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate
Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the
Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that
Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees
down to build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However,
the Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is
not true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for
our own good.
In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on
China. Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as
much as they usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could
possibly own less cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier
on everyone else and the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the
environment. They do whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they
can get more money. If all Capitalist care about is making more stuff, capitalism may be the best
system ever. But if you want to save the planet from environmental catastrophe our current
economic system is a dead end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Mandate Of Heaven In Ancient China
The Mandate of Heaven is an ancient Chinese notion and idea that heaven actually granted
emperors the right to rule based on their capacity to govern properly and fairly. The Mandate of
Heaven would transfer to the one who would rule best. The Mandate of Heaven depends on
whether an emperor was sufficiently righteous to rule; if he did not fulfill his obligations as
emperor, then he lost the Mandate and his right to rule as Emperor.
After nearly four centuries of internal division, China was unified again in 581 with the Sui Dynasty
being founded by Yang Jian, who established his capital at Chang an and began to extend his
authority throughout China. Like his predecessors, he desired a unifying ideology and turned to
Daoism and Buddhism, founding monasteries for both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 960, the Song Dynasty rose to power. Unfortunately, the Song rulers were consumed with more
problems defending their territory than any other of their predecessors. Song Taizu, the founding
emperor, failed to reconquer the northwestern part of the country from the Khitan people and was
forced to establish his capital farther to the east, at Kaifeng. When pressure from the northern
nomads increased, the court was forced to relocate the capital further south, to Hangzhou. These
emperors who ruled Hangzhou were known as the Southern Song (1127 1279). Despite their
military and political weakness, the dynasty ruled during a period of economic growth, cultural
success, and prosperity, and is therefore considered one of the more successful dynasties.
Unfortunately the Song were never able to overcome the challenge from the north, and with that
failure inevitably brought the end to this dynasty. It seemed that the Mandate of Heaven lasted as
long as it did due to the dynasty still being successful in some aspects, but due to the constant
problems and military weakness, the loss of the Mandate was

Unit 2 Compare And Contrast Quantitative And Qualitative...
Questions 1 3, 5, 6a,d e: 1) Calcite and halite share many similarities such as being white to
transparent, having three cleavage points, and also has roughly the same hardness (calcite has a
hardness of three whereas halite has a hardness of 2.5). However, there are also some ways to
differentiate between the two. One way to do this, although it is not highly recommended to do
this without proper identification, is to taste it. Halite has a salty taste since it is salt. Another
way to know what mineral is calcite and which mineral is halite is by looking at their cleavage
points. Calcite has rhombohedral cleavage planes (75В°) while Halite has a cubic cleavage point
(90В°). 2) A mineral that was challenging to identify was potassium feldspar.... Show more content

This describes graphite, but doesn t speak of any quantities or statistics. To make this observation
more quantitative, I could relate this information to the hardness scale. The hardness scale states
that a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. From this, I can conclude that graphite has a hardness less
than 2.5 since harder objects scratch softer objects. 5) An observation is something that you can
look at and record. Observations can be qualitative and quantitative data. Inferences, however, are
conclusion that can be made using observations and your prior knowledge. For example, a person
might note that iodine becomes purple when put on a potato chip. From this, we can infer that the
potato chip has starch in it. 6) a) Graphite (pure carbon) is a mineral. d) Synthetic diamond is not a
mineral. In order for an object to be a mineral, it must be naturally occurring, inorganic, solid, have
orderly crystalline structures, and definite chemical compositions. Synthetic diamond isn t
classified by a mineral because it is human

The Final Episode Of Breaking Bad Known As Face Off
The case study I have chosen is the final episode of season 4 of Breaking Bad Known as Face
Off. The name is in reference to what happens later in the episode. Through this essay I will
attempt to analyse the episode using theories that have been developed by Propp, Todorov and Levi
Strauss.
I will attempt a full break down of the show later, but for now I will do a quick summary of the
show just to bring everyone up to speed before hand. A high school chemistry teacher diagnosed
with inoperable cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine, with his former
student, in order to secure his family s financial future (IMBb, 2008:Online). The Genre for this
particular series is Crime Drama but it has aspects of a thriller series thrown in as well. This helps
with view ability of the series as it keeps viewers on edge. We mobilise our genre knowledge
routinely to order our media experiences, and in doing so we come to recognise a wide of genres.
(Gillespie, Toynbee, 2006 :45)
Character roles
The first aspect that I will analyse is Character roles. This concept came about when Vladimir
Propp, a scholar and folklorist analysed hundreds of different Russian folklore stories and was able
to pin point certain traits that belongs to certain types of characters. There are 8 character roles in
Propp s theory and they have been given names, which might not reflect accurately in certain cases.
The Hero or in other words the protagonist would be Walter White as the series

Analysis Of Las Meninas
Las Meninas RLR
Jonathon Brown uses more of a historical approach to Las Meninas and reflects on the artist
intentions instead of the painting itself. He of course describes the Characters and tells the
reader that Antonio Palomino could identify pretty much all the characters since 1724. He says
the foreground the child Margarita Maria, Next to her are two maids of honor, or the meninas.
One meninan is Maria Agustina Sarmiento, who is giving a glass of water to the princess. The
other maid is Isabel de Velasco. In the middle ground, we see Marcela de Ulloa he has an
unidentified bodyguard next to him. To the right corner of the painting are Mari Barbola and
Nicolas Pertusato they are the dwarfs. There is a large canvas to the left and the painter is behind
it. In the mirror in the back of the painting shows the King and Queen, it is King Philip IV and
Mariana of Austria. There is an open door in the painting were Jose de Nieto is standing, that is the
aposenrador of the queen (Brown, 88).
Now Jonathon Brown thinks the setting and characters do not have much importance on what the
painting really means. Of course, he says that the painting is to show respect to the Court and the
King and Queen and show just how important they but this cannot tell us much about the painting
itself. The painting is to show the artist himself as noble as the people of the court as well. It s
trying to depict a picture that shows the value of the artist himself royal epiphany (Brown, 92) all

Baryshnikov And Nureyev
IN DEPTH ASSIGNMENT
Dance, when you re broken open. Dance, if you ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of
the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you re perfectly free. Famous philosopher Rumi
made an excellent point especially when concerning the lives of Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail
Baryshnikov. They both danced through war, they danced through heart ache, and they danced
through tears. Even though Nureyev, born March 17, 1938, lived through an earlier period of time
than Baryshnikov, born January 7, 1948, the Soviet Union remained virtually unchanged. Both
dancers had defected thereby leaving the only life they knew in order to gain creativity instead of

Nureyev is known as the father of modern dance while Baryshnikov formulated ways of
representing modern dance as not just classical or traditional but conformed it more to the recent
generation.
Although their styles of dance are notable to mention of these adept dancers it is also imperative
to mention their contributions to the ever expanding dance world. It all commenced with them
defecting to other countries. If they would have remained in Russia, their contributions would
be non existent. However, the process of defecting was not an easy task. It did not have the fun
of sipping coffee while reading the newspaper on an airplane waiting patiently to reach your
vacation spot. Defecting was a life and death situation for them. For instance, Nureyev was at a
tour to Paris with the company in 1961. Being tired of being so heavily enslaved by the KGB
telling him where to go and what to do, Nureyev escaped. With the help of loyal friends, who
clearly saw his desperation, they achieved in obtaining permission for him to stay in France. He
was able to get a refugee visa. However, Nureyev was sweating the entire time. Nureyev realized
that in order to gain freedom he would never be able to see his family again. Even in his absence,
he was sentenced to prison. The KGB remained so infuriated with

Jonbenet Ramsey Conspiracy Theory
What was believed to be a kidnapping of 6 year old, JonBenet Ramsey, ended up to be the
discovery of her dead body by her father in the basement, after multiple hours of searching in
Ramsey s house (Saferstein, 2015.) A major issue with the case was that the house was not sealed
off, and multiple people, including their pastor, were able to go to and from with no complications
(Saferstein, 2015.) In defense of the policeteam, in the beginning, they had believed it to be a
kidnapping with a note and all, and in the end, it turned out to be a murder. Of course the media

that an intruder, with possible paedophilic motives, was responsible for her death, and while this
has become a widely accepted working theory, there are several pieces of evidence that simply

the basement of the families home, the cause of death showed strangulation and a blow to the

Russia s Violation of International Law As a result of their current manipulative actions in Crimea,
Russia has shown a willful disregard for the Treaty it signed at the Fourth Geneva Convention in
1949, wherein all civilians are entitled to protection from armed conflict between two countries.
Geneva Conventions broadly outline the fundamental rights of wartime detainees for all citizens
and military personnel, create assurances for the injured and debilitated, and set up insurances for
citizens in and around a battle region. In this manner, the Geneva Convention has made rules and
guidelines to ensure that all humanity is entitled to basic rights. The Fourth Geneva ... Show more

In turn, this would lead to subtle influences by Russia. Russia has demonstrated by its recent
actions that it is driven by power and greed. It has shown a willful ignorance of civilian
casualties as it has they want what Cremia has to offer. The real question is what does Crimea
have that Russia wants that bad that they are breaking the Fourth Geneva Convention for? Well
Cremia is very rich in natural oil and gas which they want to help because Russia Siberian
energy reserves are dwindling. Cremia is also known for its amazing seaside cliffs and summer
mansions which does attract a lot of tourists. Russia has also taken down major water plants which
have cut off Ukrainians from water supply. Back in 1947 Joseph Stalin who was the leader of the
Soviet Union party signed the Fourth Geneva Convention to ensure a good future for his country
and people. Look at what Putin has done he is disrespecting his predecessor who built his country
and signed this treaty.

and creative ways to learn on how to beat the test rather than studying on history and sciences where
there is potential to grow as a student and learn (Concordia University). These infamous tests put
unnecessary stress on the students, teachers, administrators and even school districts. Some
students are able to pick up the tricks easier than others, so they score higher. Therefore, the ACT
and SAT do not test the intelligence of a student nor the abilities of a student as the test does not
follow a high school curriculum, rather ACT and SAT are stressful tests for easy comparison
nationally.
Moreover, standardized tests, ACT and SAT, are created as a fair comparison between all students
as the test is written at the same time for all students each month, administered with consistent
instructions, same allotted timing and scored in the same manner, but there are confounding
variables that affect the scores of the students (Poulsen). When a student enters a testing area, their

15 Dogs Language Analysis
In the novel Fifteen Dogs , by AndrГ© Alexis, two gods, Hermes and Apollo, argue over whether
giving dogs human intelligence will make the dogs more content or make their lives worse. Fifteen

specifically Prince, a mutt, the gift of languageis not completely useful in all cases. In Prince s
situation, language has great benefits, yet it also has its disadvantages. Language is ineffective for

Because of this, he is never able to communicate with anyone other than the members of his
pack. Some of the other dogs, like Benjy and Majnoun, took to learning English, in order for
them to communicate with humans. In doing this they are able to form relationships, quite deep
relationships in fact, with humans. However, because Prince never learns a new language, and
only uses his language, he is never able to connect with humans, proving that his language is
fairly ineffective. And, because Prince never learns English, and thus never bonds with humans
through the use of language, he is often picked over. Specifically, when both Benjy and Prince

Benjy is taken in, and Prince is turned away. Benjy spoke English to the woman, and she is

Larkin Two Trees
How do Don Paterson and Phillip Larkin try to capture a message about life in their poems Two
Trees and The Trees?
In the two poems, Two Trees by Don Paterson and The Trees by Phillip Larkin, the poems explore
life and death through their seemingly black and white poems. In Two Trees , Paterson explores
the themes of creativity and perception while Larkin ponders the illusions of life and how things
are perceived. The messages in their poems can be seen in their contrasting uses of symbolism,
imagery, rhyme and metre, and structural form.
The two poems both make use of symbolism to convey their message to the reader. Two Trees
shows this through wordplay such as rooted in his head . Here the word rooted both means that he
has an idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two Trees has a linear structure, in chronological order, to convey how easy it is to see things in
different lights. Likewise, the poem has a very strong connection to the number two, particularly
due to the rhyme and metre, but it also has two stanzas, each one showing a different point of view
on the trees and the dream that had them graft ed together. The poem also contains many
enjambments, which, like thoughts, continue onto the next line. In Don Miguel s stanza, they are
carefree, like his thoughts, but The Man s are more impartial, as if he couldn t care at all. The Man
s stanza also seems to speed up, with the enjambments rushing the stanza, almost as if, like him, the
poem is hasty and thoughtless, and rushes into things. Contrastingly, The Trees by Philip Larkin
has a circular structure, returning to the beginning each stanza and it also returns to the beginning
of the poem at the end. It mirrors itself, starting with life, then death, and ending with life. However,
throughout it is becoming softer; there are more vowels at the beginning, which makes the
beginning sound harsher. Overall, both poems use structure to express a message, but the
overriding similarity is both poems ability to mirror themselves in different

JRR Tolkien
JRR Tolkien, commonly credited as the father of fantasy , has developed a unique and
individualistic plot set in middle earth a land of elves, fairies and all that is mystical. Tolkien, a

Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate
prime for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from
agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to
work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of
various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that
had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost
land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing
into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic
glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Through the industrialization,
Britain would develop advanced war machines and would vastly change British society hundreds
of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was profoundly affected by industrialization
throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915, Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it
did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same year he was sent back to London
because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon recovered from the illness by
christmas it was recurring through 1917 to 1918. Despite this epidemic, Tolkien continued to
make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the Hull area, Tolkien
and Edith had been walking in the woods when Edith danced for him in a place filled of hemlock.
This inspired Tolkien in the Legendarium or The Silmarillion as is is now known, as he described
the tale of Beren and Luthien. Furthermore, the warfare in World War I inspired his descriptions of
the Wars that take place within the Silmarillion. World

Models of Corrections Essay
The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new
approaches, disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear
59). During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America.
Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of
offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to
incarceration. As times and the needs of the criminal justicesystem changed, new prisonmodels were
organized in hopes of lowering the crimerates in America. The three major models of prisons that
were developed were the medical, model, the community model, and the... Show more content on

Many criminals re offend after they are released because they were put back into society with no
money and no job and no place to live. Gradually allowing criminals to reenter society and
helping them to find jobs will put many on the right track. This program allows people a second
chance and the possibility to change their lives around. This program seems to be a necessity yet
it will not work for everyone. Not all criminals should be let out on the street again. Just because
you give a murderer a job and some money and secure them a place to stay, you have no idea
whether they have the desire to kill again . This program would work for those that were ready
to reenter society and would be extremely beneficial to those who have nothing on the outside to
help them. The third aim at bettering the system of corrections in America was the idea of the
crime control model. The crime control model was based on the assumption that criminal behavior
can be controlled by more use of incarceration and other forms of strict supervision (Clear 57).
This new model was designed with the intent to incarcerate prisoners for longer periods of time.
Under this program the death penalty was reinstated in thirty seven states. This model was thought
to have worked best for violent offenders such as drug dealers and murderers. It seems as though
this program was created to scare people from committing a crime because of the strict punishment
that would occur.

learning how to be happy and live life without seeking such detrimental remedies to ones problems.
Often kids seek these kinds of things out as means to fit in or feed some inner insecurity thinking
since the drugs are legal they cannot be harmful. Other users who have abused the drugs tell others
nothing happened, when nothing could be further from the truth. Where one leads others will

greatly intertwined with identity in that is our food choices can say a lot about our personality,
What we eat and how we eat can reveal a lot about our personalities. In terms of culture, the foods

Psychoanalytic And Psychodynamic Theory Of Personality
Psychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic: The psychodynamic perspective focuses on the role of the
unconscious mind in the development of personality. Freud believed that the personality
develops in a series of five stages that develop the three divisions of personality. In the oral stage,
the fixation is in the mouth, and would be the cause of his introverted nature; likewise, in the
anal stage, Roberto would discover his reserved nature, while the phallic stage, he would further
refine his reserved nature as a sense of humility in his actions, also defining his mild mannered
portion of his personality. In the latency stage, his social skills would refined and he would
become introverted. Freud would think that Roberto s mild mannered, reserved, and invertedness
is caused by intense suppressing of the id by the ego, having Roberto adopt the personality that he
does; however, Karen Horney would classify Roberto s personality in respect to her theory of
neurotic personalities personalities typified by maladaptive ways of dealing with relationships with
moving away from people by withdrawing from personal relationships. Behaviorism: The
behaviorist perspective of personality focuses on the effect of the environment on behavior. Based
on the theories of Skinner and Pavlov, Roberto has his personality because of his past experiences
in a social environment. B.F. Skinner would relate operant conditioning to Roberto s personality.

Dangers Of High School Football
Despite the Fun Football is also Dangerous
Football is an exciting sport for the players and the ones who watch. While at the same time it is
also actually dangerous. It is one of the remarkably unhealthy activities played in the United
States. Nearly all of the people playing football have been injured before, even if it was undersized
like a sprained leg or ankle. It will still eventually cause problems afterward in their lives.
Concussions are known to have the highest rank of injuries. Injuries at a young age are not pleasant
for high school players. Their brains are not developed as much as a college player would be.
College students may redeem themselves after a week, while it takes almost weeks for a high
school student to compensate. The way the coaches choose to run their plays is what causes most
of those incidents. Positions with the greatest risks of injury were running backs and linebackers
(How Dangerous is High School Football? 22). If the coaches would take in the time out to
actually teach the players how hit properly, it would prevent a tremendous amount of injuries.
When players are said to be hurt doing the middle of a game. The coaches motivate them to keep
playing through the injuries most times. While in their future lives that will later affect them.

troops were sent to surround the strong french defenses by going through Belgium and the

Getting A New Country Can Be A Very Difficult Transition...
Migrating to a new country can be a very difficult transition for a child. Two months before my
seventh birthday my brother and I, traveled from Jamaica to Miami. Prior to this time we live with
our mother, however, she made the difficult decision to send her children to live with our dad and
grandmother. Years after she explain that she made this decision to give my brother and me the
opportunity to get a better educationand ultimately a better life. Although it was a difficult decision,
fast forwarding thirty years her dreams for me has definitely been fulfilled.
School in America required a lot of adjustments, and I really had a difficult time with every
subject except math and found it difficult to make friends. Although, making friends became
much easier, my love for learning did not develop until many years later. It was not until my
eighth grade year of middle school that I found myself being successful in school. I attributed
this change to teachers who did not allow me to be a mediocre student. On my first day of class
my math teacher Mr. Baker noticed me in the back of the class. He asked me why I was in the
regular class, and by the next day he moved me to the honors class. Another teacher, Mrs. Hawkins
recommended me for gifted, and this event was pinnacle in showing me that I could be success in
school.
This change in my life came at the perfect time, because my eighth grade year made it possible for
me to sign up for honors course in high school. My high

Concept Analysis In Nursing
A concept is an image molded from ones on personal experience, knowledge, expectations and
emotions. Concepts are the abstractions and the building blocks of theories and conceptual
frameworks. Theories and conceptual framework explain a particular phenomenon by linking the
concept. As concepts are the mental images, different individuals have different opinion about a
conceptor a same understanding, concept analysis is crucial to explain each concept. Concept
analysis allow the researchers to advance science and create new knowledge. Walker and Avant s
conceptual framework is an eight step process which includes (1) Select a concept (2) Determine
the aims or purposes of analysis (3) Identify all uses of the concept that you can discover... Show

Even though the increasing awareness of spiritual are present, such care is lacking in nursing. In
this study, a concept analysis was performed to provide an inclusive definition of spiritual care
concept in nursing, which encompasses the first and second step of selection of concept and aim of
the concept. The study data was collected through the National and International online database.
The third step is identifying all uses of concept, in which all concepts of spiritual care was
reviewed. For an example, Florence Nightingale and Watson considered spiritual care as the core of
nursing care. According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations,
spiritual care is a prerequisite for quality care. Attributes separate a concept from other surrounding
concept and provide an insight about the interest of the concept. Seven defining attributes were
identified in this step such as healing presence, therapeutic use of self, intuitive sense, meaning
centered therapeutic intervention, and exploration of the spiritual perspective, Patient centeredness
and creation of a spiritually nurturing environment. The fifth step of model case identification was

Project Management with Reference to the Construction of...
The Roman engineers were the first in history to discover that proper management of men and
resources could greatly decrease the time it takes to complete a construction project. The
management structure the Romans employed on their many public construction projects was very
simple, but very effective in communicating information through the appropriate channels.
Coupling this management structure with previous experience, the Romans were able to increase
the efficiency of their endless labour force. Given that no scriptures on the topic of project
managementhave been discovered, it is hard to know whether the Romans knew exactly what they
had achieved. However, even though they are more complex, the processes used today can be quite

The next level of men consisted of contractors and foreman that supervised small crews of men.
The foremen had to have a very good understanding of what they were being asked to do and how
to organize their crews to work as efficiently and fast as possible. Foremen were also required to
physically demonstrate to the men being supervised what they were expected to do and probably
administered discipline to men for poor work. Another branch of men , not directly related to
physical work, lead to the engineers. This branch contained the levellers and surveyors. They
worked under the engineer and maintained communication with the contractor but they did not
really fit between either. These men were educated in a variety of subjects but especially math. The
surveyors used simple tools to perform very important elevation calculations and with the engineers
they plotted the paths of the aqueducts. They communicated with the contractor(s) to explain the
path and the slope that the labours were being asked to construct.
The most important people in the construction team were the engineers. Everything that happened
on the project fell to them to deal with. For this reason Vitruvius gives many examples of things that
engineers needed to know and should have studied, including math and some unusual topics such as
philosophy and music (Vitruvius: On Architecture, 2006). The engineers

The Movie The Namesake
The film, The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair, suggests that everyone has a cultural identity,
whether they ignore or embrace it. Gogol Ganguli initially wants to abandon his family s
traditions and adopt American customs since he was born in America. Soon he learns that his
name has a very emotional meaning to his father. Because of his new knowledge of the
significance of his name, he begins to enter a transformation where he accepts and loves his
culture. Throughout the film, Gogol has an internal conflict with himself when, on one side, he
has his Indian culture, and on the other, he has the American culture he has always wanted to
belong to. Although some people think that cultural identity is destined and final, I claim that
cultural identity can change because of how willing people are to welcome it. The major reason
that causes Gogol to rethink his relationships and his identity is the meaning of his name. When
he was younger, he wanted to be called Nick and went by this name after high school. As he used
the name, Nick, he severed ties with his traditions which showed from when he did not visit his
parents and completely forgot his life before becoming Nick. Flashbacks were utilized several
times in this film to portray Gogol growing up and the train crash which inspired Ashoke to name
his son Gogol. In the scene where Ashoke drives with Gogol, he finally discloses how Gogol s
name really came to be. We see a flashback to the train collision when Ashoke was found

Difference Between Cricket And Cricket
Baseball vs Cricket
To many people think baseball and cricket are very similar, but the rules of hitting, fielding, and
running are completely different. They bother having someone hitting the ball and throwing, but
the traditions of the sports are what separate them completely. The two sports are argued which one
is the greatest of all time. Baseball is more common in America then Cricket. Baseball is known
as the pastime of American. It began in the late 1800 s and is very popular today. There are
many different types of baseball played all over. They go from tee ball to Major league baseball.
Kids basically grew up playing this sport in American. Hitting in baseball starts when the pitcher
toes the rubber. The pitcher throws the ball however he wants, as long as he does not deceive a
runner that is on base with his motion toward home plate. The hitter uses a round bat to hit the
round ball squarely. The batter can hit the ball wherever he wants or can. For the batter to be
called safe he has to reach first before the ball reaches first before he does. Each person who
touches home is considered one run. The hitter can hit the ball and stop at first base to get a
single, stop at second for a double, third for a triple, or home for a home run. A hitter can also get
a home run by hitting the ball over the fence. That is the ways a hitter can score in baseball.
Fielding is completely different in baseball then cricket. There are 9 fielders on the field at once.

Name of child: Daiki
Age of child: 5.6
Setting: The setting took place in a play area/corner in the classroom of the school where Daiki
attends. Daiki is playing with power rangers and there are also other children present, playing in
the same play area.
Observation: Daiki is sitting in a play area with a friend playing with power rangers at a small
table. He is acting out and talking like the power rangers. Daiki is getting up and running,
pretending he is flying. He then sits back down at the table and looks very closely at the power

For Daiki s age group Berger says, Language allows a person to enter and traverse the zone of
proximal development, because words provide a bridge from the child s current understanding
to what is almost understood (Berger, 253). Daiki is Chinese so maybe the fact that he doesn t
speak complete or full sentences is because his parents possibly do not. This could be one
reason, or he could have just not yet developed this certain skill yet. I noticed that Daiki
demonstrated egocentrism, in that he sees the world in just his own perspective and not any one
else s. Daiki showed this when he threw his power ranger across the room. When he threw the
figurine he was just thinking in his point of view. He knew that he was frustrated and the only
way he thought he could get out his frustration was by throwing the power ranger. He did not
think about how it would affect other people. Egocentrism is very typical for Daiki s age group.
Typical five year olds don t realize that people have thoughts and have points of view of their own,
that they themselves can personally affect. Egocentrism is very important concept from Piaget s
pre operational theory. Although this is one aspect of cognitive development, the theory theory of
mind, contradicts Piaget s concepts. The definition of theory of mind is, an understanding of human
mental processes, that is, of one s own and other s emotions, perceptions,

  • 3. Essay on The Jaguar Smile The Jaguar Smile: A Nicaraguan Journey written by Salman Rushdie, is a non fiction book that gives the reader insight to the internal turmoil taking place in the nation of Nicaragua. Salman Rushdie is a British Indian novelist who gained his fame for his fantastical novels about the post colonial relationship between cultures of the East and West. Rushdie became interested in Nicaraguan affairs when the Regan administration started its war against Nicaragua. I was myself the child of a successful revolt against a great power, my consciousness the product of the triumph of the Indian Revolution (p.4). Rushdie made his trip to Nicaragua in July of 1986. He came to know a wide range of people, from the President to the everyday citizens.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He quoted Ortega as saying that Reagan was worse than Hitler . The economy of Nicaragua was hugely dependent on imports, and US influence was of enormous importance. However, relations between the two nations began to plummet as the Cold War heightened. The USSR had recently funded a communications site on Nicaraguan soil to help them communicate with other socialist nations. With a rising fear of the USSR and other socialist nations, the US immediately accused it of being a spy base. Not shortly afterwards the US began to take action against Nicaragua by issuing an economic blockade. Because the Nicaraguan economy relied so heavily on imports, this had a profound effect and contributed to the collapse of the Nicaraguan economy. It was impossible to spend even a day in Nicaragua without becoming aware of the huge and unrelenting pressure being exerted on the country by the giant standing on the northern front (p.24). While the USSR and Cuba funded the Nicaraguan army, the US financed the contras. The Contras were the various rebel groups that opposed the FSLN. The Contras received both overt and covert military and financial support from the US through the CIA. The goal in supporting the Contras was to establish a friendly government in Nicaragua and to steer them away from socialist views. With the great imposing influence from the north, and the blockade of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Descriptive Statistics And Its Impact On The Visualization... Introduction Statistics, the cornerstone of any empirical study, are the foundation for analyses. In this instance, descriptive statistics, which are data points that describe the distinct qualities of a population, will be explored. Descriptive statistics, the first step of analyzing data, allow for the values to be represented, summarized, and interpreted in a meaningful, but simple, way. Exploring descriptive statisticsmay provide for the appearance of a pattern or aid in the visualization of the collective information; however, researchers are not able to establish conclusions based on these statistics. Another aspect of statistics is frequency, which is the number of times that each variable occurs during the study. Descriptive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of the experiment conducted was to determine the correlation, if any, between Texas A M student alcohol consumption each week and the number of classes missed per week. Given the abilities and constraints of descriptive statistics, choosing to focus on this type of statistic allowed for the student to properly view the overall information, since there were many interacting values. Method In this study, the participants were randomly selected throughout a two week period (N = 35). The people were all Texas A M students, ranging from freshman to senior classifications (M = 2.71, SD = 1.07, freshman to senior recorded as 1 to 4). The continuous predictors for this experiment were the participants ages and how many alcoholic beverages that they said they consumed per week. The participants had a mean age of of 20.43 (SD = 1.58). The variables in this study were how many classes a student missed per week, how many hours they were taking, how likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking, and how enjoyable class was after a night of consuming alcohol. How likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking and how enjoyable class was the morning after drinking were rated on a scale from 1 to 10. However, the scale for likelihood to miss class after a night of consuming alcohol was with 1 being unlikely and with 10 being most likely. Whereas, for the variable of how enjoyable class was ... As a result, Conficius never forgot his childhood misery caused by the horrendous atrocities committed by the rulers. Since his mom work was not enough to survive for both of them, he started working at a really young age, which provided him with the opportunity to understand the people s lives. Instead of learning the art of fighting, Conficius read through many books seeking one solution that would bring peace and justice to his people. • 8. Summary Of Peace Like A River By Leif Enger We and the world, my children, will always be at war. Retreat is impossible. Arm yourselves. (Enger 4). In Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger, writes about a family, the Lands, that lives in a little town called Roofing, Minnesota. Our narrator is Rueben, a 10 year old boy with severe asthma. The father is Jeramiah, a local school janitor who performs miracles for only Rueben to see. Then there is the sister Swede (9) and the eldest brother Davy (16). Immediately it was so hot under here I imagined my face darkening and rising like a loaf of yeast bread, but my chest did start to loosen, (Enger 20). This demonstrates harshness in the world by how a loving, faithful, good family has to have one child with a disease that can kill him. • 9. Why Environmentalists Hate Capitalism Environmentalist and Capitalism The discussion we had in class and in the document is asking, Why do Environmentalists Hate Capitalism? and How Do Humans Affect the Environment? Well let s start off with the Environmentalist; they love to make the world a much safer and cleaner world. They think that Capitalist want to do more and take up more , making gas more expensive , taking more trees down to build more of what we need and mostly not need, It s our wants and our needs. However, the Environmentalist feels that the Capitalist want to take down trees for our own good. No, that is not true, we try to cut down trees and make buildings for the Environmentalist but they think it s for our own good. In 2020, the world will end because right now, China is falling slowly, and we mostly rely on China. Capitalist need to focus more on what they are doing with the resources and not use as much as they usually do. For example, instead of a whole acre we could use half of it. We could possibly own less cars, most of us have two or three cars. We can cut down to one to make it easier on everyone else and the world. But the Capitalist want money, they don t really care about the environment. They do whatever they can to make money and try to please people more so they can get more money. If all Capitalist care about is making more stuff, capitalism may be the best system ever. But if you want to save the planet from environmental catastrophe our current economic system is a dead end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. The Mandate Of Heaven In Ancient China The Mandate of Heaven is an ancient Chinese notion and idea that heaven actually granted emperors the right to rule based on their capacity to govern properly and fairly. The Mandate of Heaven would transfer to the one who would rule best. The Mandate of Heaven depends on whether an emperor was sufficiently righteous to rule; if he did not fulfill his obligations as emperor, then he lost the Mandate and his right to rule as Emperor. After nearly four centuries of internal division, China was unified again in 581 with the Sui Dynasty being founded by Yang Jian, who established his capital at Chang an and began to extend his authority throughout China. Like his predecessors, he desired a unifying ideology and turned to Daoism and Buddhism, founding monasteries for both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 960, the Song Dynasty rose to power. Unfortunately, the Song rulers were consumed with more problems defending their territory than any other of their predecessors. Song Taizu, the founding emperor, failed to reconquer the northwestern part of the country from the Khitan people and was forced to establish his capital farther to the east, at Kaifeng. When pressure from the northern nomads increased, the court was forced to relocate the capital further south, to Hangzhou. These emperors who ruled Hangzhou were known as the Southern Song (1127 1279). Despite their military and political weakness, the dynasty ruled during a period of economic growth, cultural success, and prosperity, and is therefore considered one of the more successful dynasties. Unfortunately the Song were never able to overcome the challenge from the north, and with that failure inevitably brought the end to this dynasty. It seemed that the Mandate of Heaven lasted as long as it did due to the dynasty still being successful in some aspects, but due to the constant problems and military weakness, the loss of the Mandate was ... • 11. Unit 2 Compare And Contrast Quantitative And Qualitative... Questions 1 3, 5, 6a,d e: 1) Calcite and halite share many similarities such as being white to transparent, having three cleavage points, and also has roughly the same hardness (calcite has a hardness of three whereas halite has a hardness of 2.5). However, there are also some ways to differentiate between the two. One way to do this, although it is not highly recommended to do this without proper identification, is to taste it. Halite has a salty taste since it is salt. Another way to know what mineral is calcite and which mineral is halite is by looking at their cleavage points. Calcite has rhombohedral cleavage planes (75В°) while Halite has a cubic cleavage point (90В°). 2) A mineral that was challenging to identify was potassium feldspar.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This describes graphite, but doesn t speak of any quantities or statistics. To make this observation more quantitative, I could relate this information to the hardness scale. The hardness scale states that a fingernail has a hardness of 2.5. From this, I can conclude that graphite has a hardness less than 2.5 since harder objects scratch softer objects. 5) An observation is something that you can look at and record. Observations can be qualitative and quantitative data. Inferences, however, are conclusion that can be made using observations and your prior knowledge. For example, a person might note that iodine becomes purple when put on a potato chip. From this, we can infer that the potato chip has starch in it. 6) a) Graphite (pure carbon) is a mineral. d) Synthetic diamond is not a mineral. In order for an object to be a mineral, it must be naturally occurring, inorganic, solid, have orderly crystalline structures, and definite chemical compositions. • 12. The Final Episode Of Breaking Bad Known As Face Off The case study I have chosen is the final episode of season 4 of Breaking Bad Known as Face Off. The name is in reference to what happens later in the episode. Through this essay I will attempt to analyse the episode using theories that have been developed by Propp, Todorov and Levi Strauss. I will attempt a full break down of the show later, but for now I will do a quick summary of the show just to bring everyone up to speed before hand. A high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine, with his former student, in order to secure his family s financial future (IMBb, 2008:Online). The Genre for this particular series is Crime Drama but it has aspects of a thriller series thrown in as well. This helps with view ability of the series as it keeps viewers on edge. We mobilise our genre knowledge routinely to order our media experiences, and in doing so we come to recognise a wide of genres. (Gillespie, Toynbee, 2006 :45) Character roles The first aspect that I will analyse is Character roles. This concept came about when Vladimir Propp, a scholar and folklorist analysed hundreds of different Russian folklore stories and was able to pin point certain traits that belongs to certain types of characters. There are 8 character roles in Propp s theory and they have been given names, which might not reflect accurately in certain cases. • 15. Analysis Of Las Meninas Las Meninas RLR Jonathon Brown uses more of a historical approach to Las Meninas and reflects on the artist intentions instead of the painting itself. He of course describes the Characters and tells the reader that Antonio Palomino could identify pretty much all the characters since 1724. He says the foreground the child Margarita Maria, Next to her are two maids of honor, or the meninas. One meninan is Maria Agustina Sarmiento, who is giving a glass of water to the princess. The other maid is Isabel de Velasco. In the middle ground, we see Marcela de Ulloa he has an unidentified bodyguard next to him. To the right corner of the painting are Mari Barbola and Nicolas Pertusato they are the dwarfs. There is a large canvas to the left and the painter is behind it. In the mirror in the back of the painting shows the King and Queen, it is King Philip IV and Mariana of Austria. There is an open door in the painting were Jose de Nieto is standing, that is the aposenrador of the queen (Brown, 88). Now Jonathon Brown thinks the setting and characters do not have much importance on what the painting really means. Of course, he says that the painting is to show respect to the Court and the King and Queen and show just how important they but this cannot tell us much about the painting itself. The painting is to show the artist himself as noble as the people of the court as well. It s trying to depict a picture that shows the value of the artist himself royal epiphany (Brown, 92) all ... Dance when you re perfectly free. Famous philosopher Rumi made an excellent point especially when concerning the lives of Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. They both danced through war, they danced through heart ache, and they danced through tears. Even though Nureyev, born March 17, 1938, lived through an earlier period of time than Baryshnikov, born January 7, 1948, the Soviet Union remained virtually unchanged. Both dancers had defected thereby leaving the only life they knew in order to gain creativity instead of being controlled like puppets by the KBG. Despite the ... Nureyev is known as the father of modern dance while Baryshnikov formulated ways of representing modern dance as not just classical or traditional but conformed it more to the recent generation. Although their styles of dance are notable to mention of these adept dancers it is also imperative to mention their contributions to the ever expanding dance world. It all commenced with them defecting to other countries. If they would have remained in Russia, their contributions would be non existent. However, the process of defecting was not an easy task. It did not have the fun of sipping coffee while reading the newspaper on an airplane waiting patiently to reach your vacation spot. Defecting was a life and death situation for them. For instance, Nureyev was at a tour to Paris with the company in 1961. Being tired of being so heavily enslaved by the KGB telling him where to go and what to do, Nureyev escaped. With the help of loyal friends, who clearly saw his desperation, they achieved in obtaining permission for him to stay in France. He was able to get a refugee visa. However, Nureyev was sweating the entire time. Nureyev realized that in order to gain freedom he would never be able to see his family again. Even in his absence, he was sentenced to prison. In the two poems, Two Trees by Don Paterson and The Trees by Phillip Larkin, the poems explore life and death through their seemingly black and white poems. In Two Trees , Paterson explores the themes of creativity and perception while Larkin ponders the illusions of life and how things are perceived. The messages in their poems can be seen in their contrasting uses of symbolism, imagery, rhyme and metre, and structural form. Two Trees has a linear structure, in chronological order, to convey how easy it is to see things in different lights. Likewise, the poem has a very strong connection to the number two, particularly due to the rhyme and metre, but it also has two stanzas, each one showing a different point of view on the trees and the dream that had them graft ed together. The poem also contains many enjambments, which, like thoughts, continue onto the next line. In Don Miguel s stanza, they are carefree, like his thoughts, but The Man s are more impartial, as if he couldn t care at all. The Man s stanza also seems to speed up, with the enjambments rushing the stanza, almost as if, like him, the poem is hasty and thoughtless, and rushes into things. Contrastingly, The Trees by Philip Larkin has a circular structure, returning to the beginning each stanza and it also returns to the beginning of the poem at the end. It mirrors itself, starting with life, then death, and ending with life. However, throughout it is becoming softer; there are more vowels at the beginning, which makes the beginning sound harsher. Due to the change in economic exportations from agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Not all criminals should be let out on the street again. This program would work for those that were ready to reenter society and would be extremely beneficial to those who have nothing on the outside to help them. The third aim at bettering the system of corrections in America was the idea of the crime control model. The crime control model was based on the assumption that criminal behavior can be controlled by more use of incarceration and other forms of strict supervision (Clear 57). This new model was designed with the intent to incarcerate prisoners for longer periods of time. Under this program the death penalty was reinstated in thirty seven states. This model was thought to have worked best for violent offenders such as drug dealers and murderers. • 38. Radiation Physics Personal Statement I am applying to the Radiation Health Physics graduate program of study at OSU. I have been a high school Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering teacher for nearly the past 10 years. My personal experiences in education have helped shape my vision and practices at a small, rural school district in Western Pennsylvania. It has been this experience that has given me the confidence to believe I am far more capable than I had thought I was only 10 years earlier. I am ready to apply my knowledge of Physics, Electronics, Computer Programming, and digital modeling techniques to Radiation Physics and make a greater impact to the world at large. It is through the education I wish to obtain at Oregon State University that I will make this happen. My collegeexperience began in 2002 as a student enrolled in the Associates of Applied Sciencein Electronics Technology at Butler County Community College located in Butler, Pennsylvania. I studied the foundations of electronics including, but not limited to Analog and Digital electronics, Bipolar Junction Transistor and Operational Amplifier circuit design, Linear Circuit Analysis, and Communication Electronics which included applications of Fast... The conflict is becoming more cultural but we cannot make one democratic entity called the west and make it as a dominate system and force its values and liberalism on other countries. These kinds of attempt were tried in Vietnam back in the 60 s, when the United Statestried to enforce its liberal democratic system on communistic system. Another example of the failure of enforcing the Western values and culture is the second invasion of Iraq in 2001, The united states tried to make Iraq a democratic entity. • 46. Project Management with Reference to the Construction of... The Roman engineers were the first in history to discover that proper management of men and resources could greatly decrease the time it takes to complete a construction project. The management structure the Romans employed on their many public construction projects was very simple, but very effective in communicating information through the appropriate channels. Coupling this management structure with previous experience, the Romans were able to increase the efficiency of their endless labour force. Given that no scriptures on the topic of project managementhave been discovered, it is hard to know whether the Romans knew exactly what they had achieved. The next level of men consisted of contractors and foreman that supervised small crews of men. The foremen had to have a very good understanding of what they were being asked to do and how to organize their crews to work as efficiently and fast as possible. Foremen were also required to physically demonstrate to the men being supervised what they were expected to do and probably administered discipline to men for poor work. Another branch of men , not directly related to physical work, lead to the engineers. This branch contained the levellers and surveyors. They worked under the engineer and maintained communication with the contractor but they did not really fit between either. These men were educated in a variety of subjects but especially math. The surveyors used simple tools to perform very important elevation calculations and with the engineers they plotted the paths of the aqueducts. They communicated with the contractor(s) to explain the path and the slope that the labours were being asked to construct. The most important people in the construction team were the engineers. Everything that happened on the project fell to them to deal with. For this reason Vitruvius gives many examples of things that engineers needed to know and should have studied, including math and some unusual topics such as philosophy and music (Vitruvius: On Architecture, 2006). • 47. The Movie The Namesake The film, The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair, suggests that everyone has a cultural identity, whether they ignore or embrace it. Gogol Ganguli initially wants to abandon his family s traditions and adopt American customs since he was born in America. Soon he learns that his name has a very emotional meaning to his father. Because of his new knowledge of the significance of his name, he begins to enter a transformation where he accepts and loves his culture. Throughout the film, Gogol has an internal conflict with himself when, on one side, he has his Indian culture, and on the other, he has the American culture he has always wanted to belong to. Although some people think that cultural identity is destined and final, I claim that cultural identity can change because of how willing people are to welcome it. The major reason that causes Gogol to rethink his relationships and his identity is the meaning of his name. When he was younger, he wanted to be called Nick and went by this name after high school. As he used the name, Nick, he severed ties with his traditions which showed from when he did not visit his parents and completely forgot his life before becoming Nick. Flashbacks were utilized several times in this film to portray Gogol growing up and the train crash which inspired Ashoke to name his son Gogol. In the scene where Ashoke drives with Gogol, he finally discloses how Gogol s name really came to be. We see a flashback to the train collision when Ashoke was found ... Difference Between Cricket And Cricket Baseball vs Cricket To many people think baseball and cricket are very similar, but the rules of hitting, fielding, and running are completely different. They bother having someone hitting the ball and throwing, but the traditions of the sports are what separate them completely. The two sports are argued which one is the greatest of all time. Baseball is more common in America then Cricket. Baseball is known as the pastime of American. It began in the late 1800 s and is very popular today. There are many different types of baseball played all over. They go from tee ball to Major league baseball. Kids basically grew up playing this sport in American. Hitting in baseball starts when the pitcher toes the rubber. The pitcher throws the ball however he wants, as long as he does not deceive a runner that is on base with his motion toward home plate. The hitter uses a round bat to hit the round ball squarely. The batter can hit the ball wherever he wants or can. For the batter to be called safe he has to reach first before the ball reaches first before he does. Each person who touches home is considered one run. The hitter can hit the ball and stop at first base to get a single, stop at second for a double, third for a triple, or home for a home run. A hitter can also get a home run by hitting the ball over the fence. That is the ways a hitter can score in baseball. Fielding is completely different in baseball then cricket. Daiki is Chinese so maybe the fact that he doesn t speak complete or full sentences is because his parents possibly do not. This could be one reason, or he could have just not yet developed this certain skill yet. I noticed that Daiki demonstrated egocentrism, in that he sees the world in just his own perspective and not any one else s. Daiki showed this when he threw his power ranger across the room. When he threw the figurine he was just thinking in his point of view. He knew that he was frustrated and the only way he thought he could get out his frustration was by throwing the power ranger.
