Fine Arts Admission
College of Arts SciencesFine Arts
How will you explore your intellectual and academic interests at the University of Pennsylvania?
Please answer this question given the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying.
(400 650 words)
As I mentioned in my application questions, academically, I want to major in fine arts offered by
College of Arts Sciences. The life at Fordham made me unconsciously own the extracurricular life
I desire, both for art and social life, while Vanderbilt taught me to appreciate them by losing at
first. I believe Upenn, with excellent fine art education and the best social life, is the perfect fit for
me.
The undergraduate Fine Arts Program is uniquely offered by both the Graduate Schoolof Design
and the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences; the specialization and practicality of graduate
education undoubtedly improves the quality of undergraduate education. Compared with Vanderbilt,
which only has general painting or photography courses, the undergraduate courses at Upenn is

The Annual World CultureDays is a highlight for me. Upenn has its own Museum; with the
advantages of its international galleries, students can not only take part in most typical culture
events but also can vividly experience the ancient culture evolvement around the world. For
instance, there was a grand Chinese New Year Celebration in the Upenn Museum s Rotunda this
January. The festive day featured various traditional Chinese art culture like tangram and
calligraphy workshops and the zodiac gallery tour at the museum demonstrated the rich
humanistic connotations of China. This kind of opportunities and environment is exactly what I
long for and desire to be involved in. It reminds me the reason I came to America for college: I

Essay on Thomas Malthus Section Summary
Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often
cited, first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural
selection. His work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the
forefront many socio economic issues that are still being debated today: populationcontrol, food
production and concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population.
In this passage it is stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven
to be wrong... (Efficiency and Equity 211). However, though his calculations have proven to be
wrong because he could not accurately account for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a reflexive response to
economic necessity.
Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to population
ignored the role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only in relation to each other,
he ignored much more than food prices. In an artificial economy established in an economic lab
such set ratios can be accurately predictive. However, in the natural environment, there are many
external factors that would affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key
oversight in his theory. While the basic premise that population growth may outstrip the growth in
food productivity was true based on the circumstances within which he operated, he didn t account
for the economics of food productivity to drive an increase in production worldwide that offset
any local market conditions and shortages in supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices
may depress population growth in that if food

Courteney Cox Case
Courteney Cox is reportedly desperate to go for counselling with ex fiancГ© Johnny McDaid as
she is said to be hopeful that they can still fix their relationship. The former Friends star and the
Run hit maker just recently called off their engagement with undisclosed reasons on what really
went wrong with their relationship. However, a new report claimed that the two stars had an
argument over their nuptial plans that led to their split. Things have been rocky for a while, a
source disclosed to Britain s Grazia magazine, as per The Hamilton Spectator. They were arguing
over wedding plans, had one almighty row and she asked him to leave. The source also claimed
that both stars are now devastated, especially Courteney. The actress is said to be claiming that
what they are going through right now is just a trial separation and they are said to be figuring out
how to move forward. The source also alleged to the magazine that Cox is desperate to have
relationship counselling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

June 2014, the couple announced through Twitter that they are engaged, after six months of dating.
However, earlier this month reports emerged that suggested that the engagement is off, but both
stars remained mum about it. Courteney and Johnny were last photographed together in August at

Comparing John Smith And William Bradford s Of Plymouth...
When in comes to first hand experiences with the New Word, John Smith and William Bradford
have a good idea of what it is like. Although both men are very different, they have some
similarities. The short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew
s experiences with the New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William
Bradford does. While these short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new
world, they are not exactly the same nor are they much different from each other. John Smith came
to the New World and landed in Jamestown for one particular reason, for tobacco. Had we been as
free from all sins as gluttony and drunkenness we might have been canonized for saints, but our

The Pilgrims were puritans who came to the New World for religious freedom because they
were being persecuted. Coming to the New World was tough to manage, but their faith in God
helped them get through it all step by step. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their
knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean...
(Bradford 78). This just shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed
that if they kept their faith, that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they
had was that John Smith s story was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person.
John Smith used a handful of adjectives to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the
Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his
story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. This is a
minor difference, but it is significant because it shows different point of

Essay on A poem and a loaded gun
A Poem and a Loaded Gun
The post civil war era was wrought with sexism and backwards thinking. Emily Dickinson was
born in 1830, wrote 1800 poems in her lifetime. She has become known for unfolding the social
boundaries surrounding women in this time period. Most of her life was shrouded in seclusion
and mystery. In the realm of poetry, authors are creative with their usage of literary techniques in
order to illustrate their point of view to the reader. Emily Dickinson is especially known for her
precise diction, powerful imagery, and obscure timing or rhythm. In her poem My life had stood A
loaded Gun, she is heavily dependant on the use of images, eloquent diction and tone to convey

The faster pace and constant beats provide for a significant change from the broken up stand still
qualities of the first stanza. The mood portrayed here is that of eventfulness, even usefulness, it is
apparent that the speaker feels more fulfilled or somehow more whole.
Also in the second stanza the author introduces the theme of unity between speaker and master by
use of her diction. Albert Gelpi, anther notable critic of Dickinson s work, points out that already by
the second stanza I and he have become we ...the rhythm and repetition underscoring the
momentous change of identity. By doing this the author introduces the theme of possession vs.
possessed and the inherent contradiction of the concept, referencing the fact that one cannot be
without the other.
The second notable use of interesting diction can be found in the speaker s description of her
smile. She compares her smile to the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This notable according to
Christine Miller, a notable commentator of Dickinson s work, because she does not compare it to
an event but to a completed action. She says the past perfect verb is more chilling than the present
tense would be. Miller notes this same technique later in the poem when the speaker describes

Strategic Management and Joint Venture
QSPM:
The Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) is a viable tool for making strategy
formulation decisions. This powerful basis will assist managers of a firm to take alternative
feasible strategies for their particular business.
For developing a QSPM, there are six major steps as follows:
Step 1
Make a list of the firm s key external opportunities/threats and internal strengths/weaknesses. As we
have done in SWOT analysis before.
Step 2
Assign weights to each key external and internal factor. This part is already done in SWOT analysis.
Step 3
Examine matrices, and identify alternative strategies than the company should consider
implementing. In this part, three alternative strategies grasp from previous analysis based ... Show

Break Break Break Analysis
The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming
quatrain stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man
who has recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are
death, sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his
tongue will not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrasedisplays the
emotional distress being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for
what he is unable to say. He does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but
rather blames the inability on his tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this
emotional distress the author is experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand
/And the sound of a voice that is still (11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards
the conclusion that the author has lost someone with whom he was close. The author continues
to use the physical world to describe the one he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death
within the poem. The combination of his inability to say what thoughts he has and his use of
physical world descriptions for this missing person may indicate that he is still in the early
stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author includes implications of
jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a fisherman s boy playing
joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully in his boat on the
bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this phrase
before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of
these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again
experience the joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of
but the tender grace of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors
thoughts of jealousy and death lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the
day that he was able to enjoy the

The Believable Space In The Philadelphia Story
The Philadelphia Story creates a believable space by making storytelling its main focus. Like
similar classical films, this film provides little room to let the audience question anything
happening onscreen, as most objects given focus within the mise en scene are important for the
story s progression. For example, early in the films screen time, Lord meets her fiancГ©, George
Kittredge, at a stable with her uncle and sister. In the very first shot of Lord s uncle, Willie, he is
holding a copy of Spy Magazine over his face in the foreground as Lord and her sister approach
from the background. This shot immediately calls the magazine to focus while downplaying Willie
s presence. As the shot continues, the magazine pushes the plot forward. Through dialogue, Lord is

As Lord goes to greet Kittredge, she hands off the magazine to her sister, Dinah. In the next shot,
Lord is greeting Kittredge from the left of the frame, and after they fall onto the ground Lord s
sister reappears from the left of the frame with the magazine, enforcing continuity across shots.
Kittredge stands up and takes the magazine from Dinah, and Dinah exits on the right of the frame
to avoid cluttering the shot. The camera zooms in from a medium long shot to a medium shot, as
Kittredge and Lord look at the magazine together, with Lord continuing to make fun of the
magazine s vapid articles. The shot establishes Kittredge and Lord s opposing ideas of domestic
life, placing the magazine in the centre of the shot between Kittredge and Lord. Lord reads an
article aloud, which highlights how Lord s dismissive views of patriarchal ideologies could affect
her relationships with both Kittredge and the press. Lord folds up and tosses the magazine onto the
ground, illustrating how little she thinks of it, and the sequence continues. The magazine still
remains crucial to the sequence s role within the overarching

Trunk Movement Analysis
In relation to trunk movement and this week s forum, I chose to write about the sit up. The sit up is
commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training
exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the
internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at
your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time
your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis
and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral
abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of
the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus
femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... Show more content on

Your iliopsoas is attached to your femur, crosses your hips, and attaches to the lower ribs. This
muscle promotes flexing of the hip and spine rotation. Your sartorius runs diagonally across the
front of your thigh and is a long, narrow muscle which assists with both bending of the hip and
knee. Your tensor fascia latae is a thin muscle that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and assists
with hip flexion as well as leg abduction. While both the primary and secondary muscles play a
large role in the overall movement, it could not be performed properly without the stabilizing
muscles. This muscle involves the tibialis anterior, which runs from the top of your shin bone
down to your first metatarsal, (big toe) and helps you flex your ankle. As you come into a sitting
position, slight tension is along the front of the legs. This is your tibialis anterior becoming
engaged in order to keep your ankle

David Farber And Bethy Bailey s America
David Farber and Bethy Bailey s America in the 70 s is a collection from nine authors giving insight
on the misunderstood decade. Each author draws heavily on the popular culture in the seventies to
illustrate the political and economic transformation. Overshadowed by the 1960s, the seventies are
thought to lack passionate champions and struggled in economic transformation. That, with the
addition of the defeat in Vietnam, the loss in faith of the president after three failed presidencies
and race and gender issues helped camouflage this decade. Americans had uncertainty about the
meaning of happiness, success, patriotism and national identity (pg. 2).
The first theme is transformation from the manufacturing that America was used to seeing to a
larger focus on what technology could offer. In the essay Culture, Technology and the Cult of Tech
, Timothy Moy points out how the computer was used to try and influence the people to improve
the future. Also proving the importance of technology, Moy mentions that technology was also
used as a hobby for some people. In a time that was casted with despair, tech geeks were still able
to find joy and discover improvements for the future. Using examples like Apple, Moy also
proved the ideology that was being used with the rise of technology, If you [were] interested in
democracy and its future, you d better understand computers (Pg. 212). Apple was focused on
making an everybody computer, which was not plausible to the people

Still Water Case Study
The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley
and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and
uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being
part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while,
lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater.
One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown
had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a
warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This
warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands today, grew into a small village that
he called Dacotah . In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate across the St. Croix. In 1841,

The IBM Personal Computer And Its Effect
The IBM Personal Computer and Its Effect

U. S. History 241

November 7, 2014 In United States history, there have been few inventions that have completely
astonished the whole nation; the personal computer was one of them. The introduction of the IBM
Personal Computer in the United States created a novel, profound interest in technology in the
1980s. PC Magazine from February 1982 indicated that technology was slowly improving around

Due to the IBM Personal Computer, Microsoft, the first personal computer software company,
had a break though in the software industry. IBM approached young Bill Gates, the president and
co founder of Microsoft, and said, Hey, we may really do some business. It could be exciting.
They followed this up with, We have a lot of things to do, so let s do them in parallel. We will
have our legal team meet with your legal team, we ll have our purchasing team meet with your
purchasing team, and we ll have our technical team meet with your technical team. IBM was
thrilled to work with Bill Gates and Microsoft, but there was a limiting factor. Since Microsoft
was only starting up, there were not many people in the company and Bill Gates handled almost
every department. Personal computer software was a very new industry, which explained the lack
of employment; however, the employees in it were extremely enthusiastic about it. Even though
Bill Gates had to negotiate with all of IBM s departments, he wasn t discouraged; he even offered
to meet with two departments simultaneously in order to accomplish more in the one year limit.
IBM and Microsoft did not want to create a mediocre computer. They even stated, The second
priority beyond getting it done in a year was to have a state of the art machine. They wanted to end
with a machine that topped every other machine that had been created before, but they only had one

Burial Customs In America Essay
According to an article submitted to the Berkeley Planning Journal, approximately 800,000 gallons
of formaldehyde is buried in the United States every year. To put the amount of this hazardous
chemical that Americans use to bury their people in perspective, it is enough to fill one and a
quarter Olympic sized swimming pools each year (Calderone). Unfortunately, this is only one of the
many issues that is hurting the environment and has arised from modern burials. Because of the
negative environmental effects that modern burial customs are causing, Americans should switch
back to natural burials in order to decrease the impact that modern burial practices have left on
Earth. In antebellum America, burial customs were onced a personal family issue. As custom, the

time to identify their loved ones who lost their lives during the war.. Because transportation in the
mid 1800 s is nowhere near as good as modern transportation, families had to wait several days,
even weeks, to receive the body of their loved one. Therefore, the Civil War was responsible for the
emergence of the embalming process in the United States. In the 1850 s, Dr. Thomas Holmes had
experimented with the French method of arterial embalming and soon created his own embalming

Elon Musk cofounded Tesla Motors, an American automaker, in 2003 and was among the first

States dollars (Rothaermrl, Zimmer, 2014 p.2). Tesla Motors designs and markets electric cars in

General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. Other foreign motor vehiclemanufacturers that have entered

Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, and KIA from various Asiatic countries; and major European

Compassion In Thank You, MaAm By Langston Hughes
Compassionate people are geniuses in the art of living, more necessary to the dignity, security, and
joy of humanity than the discoveries of knowledge. Albert Einstein
Everyone has difficulties and tragedies in life, some more than others. Though when people show
compassion, it makes your spirits rise and make your challenges more bearable. In the short story,
Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a woman whose
purse has been an attempted target by a boy, shows the theme of compassion with an
overflowing amount of it. The boy, Roger, learns throughout the story that compassion is very
important, and his true personality is revealed by some woman he doesn t even know. At the
beginning of Thank you, Ma am, we see how just how compassionate Mrs. Jones really is. The
moment she meets Roger, she tells the boy to wash his face. Least I can do is wash your face.
Are you hungry? This might not seem like a very compassionate thing to do at first, however,
she doesn t even know the boy, yet she has enough compassion to make sure he is clean. Then,
she takes the boy inside of her house! In addition, the boy, Roger asks, You going to take me to
jail? But Mrs. Jones doesn t. Maybe she sees that Roger is really a good boy inside, so she shows
compassion to bring out his true kindness. This makes me think that he was probably trying to

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment
From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the
hypothesis to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment,
two clear solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis
states that by adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up
at a higher concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature
should have a similar effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an
increase of particle movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate.
Therefore decreasing the temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results
given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased.
When the concentrations of both KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some
concentrations having a higher increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at
least doubled from the previous concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the
reaction. Although unlike the change in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants
were either increased or decreased their was no significant change. As shown in table 4. When
the temperature was either increased or decreased to 10В°C, 30В°C, 40В°C and 50В°C the
average times are all within one second of each other. Except for when the reactants were cooled
to a further 5В°C the reaction time was increased by more than double the reaction time. This
showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated hypothesis. The
standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a second
order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations and
whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction.
In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction
graph being straighter than the first order graph. This meaning the reaction proceeds at a rate
proportional to the square of the concentration,

Benefits And Benefits Of Retirement Plan Essay
Two thirds of private industry workers have access to some form of retirement plan. The two forms
most common are a defined benefit plan or pension plan and defined contribution plan or an
investment plan such as a 401K. Given the choice, over 40% prefer to participate in the benefit plan

Investments and Savings Vehicles We have all benefited from this new global economy,
interweaving our lives and still maintaining independence and as each of the regional areas send
strong signals sharing similar perceptions of investing in our future interests. Today, we see more
and more government to government interventions with a common goal to offer frustrated
populations robust possibilities for living better with access to public and private investments and
savings through pension programs and retirement plans. Current outlook for Japan and the major
countries of continental Europe shows the aging trend is escalating and public retirement systems

Nathan Hale
In the small town of Coventry, Connecticut on June 6, 1755, Nathan Hale was born, to devout
Puritans, Deacon Richard Hale and Elizabeth Strong Hale. Hale was the sixth of twelve children.
The Hale s had 9 boys and 3 girls. Hale s parents were concerned that he wouldn t survive his first
year, like the two children before Hale (Lough 8). Even though he was a sickly small child, with
weak lungs he did not let that stop him from loving the outdoors (Lough). As Hale got older, he
became stronger. Sadly Hale s mother Elizabeth died when he was 12 shortly after giving birth to
her 12th child (Tracy 16). It is thought that Hale s father Richard remarried a wealthy widow,

He graduated in 1773 at 18 years old with honors. Unlike his brother Enoch who became a
minister, Hale decided to be a teacher. His first teaching job was at a public school in East
Haddam Landing, Connecticut. After having a positive college experience, leaving to teach in a
rural town was a culture shock for Hale (Tracy 23), Even though he was well liked, he was still
lonely. But a couple months later he was offered a job at Union School in New London, Connecticut
, which he gladly accepted. He fell in love with New London. It was busy and exciting like New
Haven. Hale taught math, Latin, literature and writing to 30 young men until 1774, when Hale
got permission to start teaching 20 young women. The young women were not able to attend
school during normal hours, so they came earlier. His friends teased him about the girls not
coming to school for Hale s great teaching but for his great looks which may or may not be true.
In late 1774, he was offered a promotion to master of Union School and he gladly accepted.
During Hale s teaching career, a war was going on. He had heard about many battles and attended
many town hall meetings. Hale spoke out at one saying Let us march immediately, and never lay
down our [weapons] until we obtain independence! He made a decision to stop teaching and join
the Connecticut regiment of the Continental Army. His regiment left immediately but he stayed

You sent the text somewhere near the end of the meeting. You weren t looking at the time. You

emptying the contents of your hollow stomach into the toilet bowl. You hadn t eaten all day.

Education and Emerson Essay
1.In this essay, Ralph Waldo Emerson describes his view of an ideal education. What are its
defining characteristics?
I believe his defining characteristics on his view of an ideal education would have to include the
motherly guidance way of education, the teachers working on each student individually and the
teachers inspiring the students to think for themselves by giving them encouragement for their
thoughts.
2.In what ways is Emerson s advice appropriate to a child s first teacher his or her parents?
Some ways Emerson s advice is appropriate to a child s first teacher and his/her parents is the
advice of motherly guidance or a guiding hand. A hand that does not punish harshly, rather a hand

It may increase receptivity for me because I am a teenage boy but I m not if it has much of an
affect when compared with girls reading this essay. I m not sure if it matters much.
7.Describe the adult that Emerson imagines would emerge from an education based on the principles
he supports.
Emerson probably would imagine an adult that would emerge from an education based on the
principles he supports would be hungry for the truth, would look towards the future and learning,
would not be afraid to share his ideas but what know for the most part right from wrong, and he
would have enthusiasm associated to learning. This adult be it a girl or boy will be a college of

1.What does Emerson mean when he says, Nature loves analogies, but not repetitions (para.1)?
He means nature loves similarities with distinct differences not the same thing over and over again.
2.Why is the relationship between Genius and Drill, as Emerson explains it, paradoxical (para.3)?
It seems pretty self contradictory but it does shed some light on his idea. The child wants to learn

No Exit is that the Setting of Hell by Jean-Paul Sartre
Hell, although we will most likely never actually know anything about it for sure, has always
seemed to be brought up in the media, talked about on television, and depicted in different ways
and through all of the different types of media there are around the world. For example, one
version of Hell as described in Jean Paul Sartres play No Exitis that the setting of Hell is a mostly
empty room in which three people are selected to stay for eternity (Sartre). Whether they were
selected by chance or at random, nobody can tell for sure (Northern). The characters, Garcin,
Inez, and Estelle try to figure out why they were all placed together, but will never know even
though they have an eternity together to figure it out (Sartre). The thought that this setting could
be a Hell in it s own can be hard to comprehend. The fact of the matter is that the three people
have no looking glass in which to see themselves, no way to know how the other people in the
room feel about them, and no way to get away from each other, for they are locked in this room
for eternity (Sartre). The fact that one of the women, Estelle, is a sort of conceited woman who
wants to see how she looks all the time makes her feel the need to ask the other woman, Inez, how
she looks (Sartre). When she does this, it shows the way that it is human nature that we are
constantly worried and wondering how they look through another person s eyes (Northern). The

Her Divine Call on July 31, 1991
It all began on, July 31, 1991, when Linda Smith received the call that would change her life
indefinitely. At 1:01 am she was divinely called out by name and presented with a prophetic
revelation. God revealed Four D Success Academy: an acronym with profound meaning: the Desire
to achieve, the Determination to follow through, the Drive needed to maintain consistent efforts
toward success, and the ability to Deliver by reaching one s goals. At the time she could not grasp
the magnitude of what Godhad bestowed upon her life. Linda Smith a founder of Four D Success
Academy? This was an unfathomable thought at the time, because she had no background in the
educational realm. However, carrying the conviction of Gods divine call, prompted her to take
action. I knew God was only going to call me once, I couldn t afford not to respond , she
affirmed. That same year she resigned after serving 35 years as a registered nurse, and took a
leap of faith into Four D s future. Initially, her husband and children were perplexed by what
seemed to be a hasty decision. However, Linda gained their support through her own confidence in
God s plan.
It has been 22 years since Linda received her divine call. Her story has not changed, but her life
has. Since that day, Four D has blossomed into the first African American owned, accredited
healthcare college, in the United States. She has been recognized in Essence Magazine, Minority

Limp Bizkit played a huge role in the popularity of the nu metal, rap rock genre in the mid 90s.

Characteristics Of The Fennec Fox
The Fennec Fox, also known as the desert fox , is the national animal of Algeria. It is a small,
nocturnal fox found in North Africa. Its huge ears are its most distinctive feature, that they use
to dissipate heat. They have adapted to live in a desert environment. They weigh about 1.5
3.5lbs, with a length between 24 41 cm, is about 20.3cm tall and live up to about 14 years, also
their ears are between 10 15 cm long. The Fennec Fox is an omnivore. They mainly eat plants,
rodents, insects, birds, eggs, and rabbits. Also, their hearing is so good that they can hear their
prey underground. The biggest predator to the Fennec Fox is African Eagle Owls. Sadly they
are often captured and sold as pets. Jerboa Jerboas are desert rodents found in Northern Africa
and Asia. Jerboas are nocturnal, so during the day when it s hot, they shelter in burrows. At night
they leave the burrows when temperatures cool down. Their burrows are nearby plant life. Most
jerboas eat plant material as the main component of their diet, and they can t eat hard seeds.
Also, some jerboas even eat beetles and other insects they come across. Most species of jerboa
have amazing hearing that they use to avoid becoming the prey of nocturnal predators. The
lifespan of a jerboa is typically around six years. Barbary Stag aka Atlas Deer The Atlas Deer is
a subspecies of red deer that is native to North Africa. The Atlas deer is the only member of the
deer family that is native to Africa. It thrives in dense, humid forested areas of Algeria, originally
they were found in Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. But their habitat is now thought to be
restricted to a coastal strip in eastern Algeria. The Barbary stag has or has had predators like the
Barbary lion, the Atlas bear, and the Barbary leopard, but they have either become extinct or are
endangered. Factors threatening the survival of the Atlas deer include habitat destruction and
poaching, the Atlas Deer is now endangered. It is estimated that only between 50 and 60
individuals remain in the wild. The Algerian Nuthatch The Algerian nuthatch is a small passerine

Scarlet Letter Brooding Romanticism
At the end of chapter 5, it is evident that Hester is more of a brooding Romantic; she has a tragic
confrontation with the universe around her, she isolates herself and becomes paranoid, and she
develops a dark outlook of her scarlet letter by associating it with Hell. After experiencing an
extreme amount of public humiliation, it is no surprise that Hester Prynne may think negatively
about her reality in Boston. Hester s negative outlook, a characteristic that can be credited to her
broodingly romantic personality, is clearly evident within the end of chapter 5. The cause of this
negative outlook is due to a tragic confrontation that she experiences with the world around her.
She looks beyond her own sins and has a sudden realization that in fact anyone has the ability to
transgress just as easily as she did. Hester is terror stricken by the revelations of knowing that
others sin. The fact that she is terror stricken suggests that she is now looking at the world around
her in a way she never previously had. Hester is overwhelmed with terror to realize that people are
genuinely immoral. This scene highlights a major concept of brooding romanticism: a character
having a tragic confrontation with the universe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final paragraph, those with vulgar minds are credited with contributing grotesque horror to
their conception of the scarlet letter. However, this grotesque horror is not so grotesque after all.
Hawthorne reveals that the scarlet letter being a symbol of infernal fire is more of a reality for
Hester than an actual rumor. Associating the scarlet letter with something infernal implies that it
can be connected to the idea of Hell. This yields a very dark and dire perspective of reality for
Hester, and the connection of Hester to Hell through the scarlet letter epitomizes the brooding

The Payment Of Dividends And The Issue Of Shares
The payment of dividends and the issue of shares in return for capital investment are important
aspects of company law. As such, there are certain requirements that must be met in order for both
shares and dividends to be lawfully issued. These requirements are located within the company s
articles and statute. The Company s articles operate as contract between the company and its
members and outline the requirements that the directors must follow in order for a transaction to be

This is supported by statute which allows directors to issue share capital provided this is
sanctioned by the articles. It is possible for the articles of the company to permit different classes
of share to be offered and thus enable preferential shares to be offered to Mrs Donald and the
Model Articles clearly does this within article 22. There are however, certain caveats in respect of
the rights of the existing members which can restrict this provision. The CA gives existing
shareholders a right of pre emption as a means of preventing their voting power from being diluted
by the allotment of new shares if the issue is of ordinary shares.
Section 561 determines that existing members must be offered on the same or more favourable
terms a proportion of the proposed issue equal to the proportion of shares held by the member.
The offer must be made to the existing member in writing and must allow at least 14 days for the
offer to be accepted or declined. Contravention of this requirement could render the officer(s)
involved and the company jointly and severally liable to the member for any loss suffered or
expense incurred by their failure to meet this requirement. However section 563 CA does not result
in an invalidation of the allotment in the event that it was done infringing section 561 or 662 CA.

Abstract: The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize, isolate, purify and characterize
acetanilide. Acetanilide was purified via recrystallization and its purity was checked using its
melting range and thin layer chromatography. Our results yielded a very pure product.
Introduction: This molecule is primarily noted for its antipyretic and analgesic properties because
the human body metabolizes it mostly to paracetamol. However, due to its high toxicity it is no
longer administered as a drug on its own, it is mainly used in the synthesis and manufacture of
other drugs. Hazards include: acute oral toxicity, reproductive toxicity and it is also found to be
harmful to aquatic life. Its IUPAC name is N phenylacetamide. The synthesis below, depicts aniline

Cultural Assimilation Of Hispanic Immigrants
Cultural Assimilation of Latino Immigrants in the United States Latino immigrants have always
had many obstacles when coming into the United States, the difference between the American and
the Latin cultures is what has caused a huge hurdle that immigrants have found hard to overpass.
This obstacle has caused many generations to go through cultural assimilation. Mize et al. (2012)
explain that cultural assimilation is the adaptation of immigrants to unfamiliar cultural patterns,
which include language and the value systems of other cultures. In order for immigrants to be
successful in another country, which is not of their origin; they need to learn how to assimilate to
their new homes. Immigrants have learned that they need to adapt in order to get to experience new
opportunities and also to learn from new cultures that are not theirs (Mize et al., 2012). Immigrants
have learned that they are not leaving behind their own believes and norms, but mixing their norms,
this gives them the opportunity to create and mix their culture with the new. Cultural assimilation
can be hard to achieve because in one hand it is important to change in order to live within a
different culture, but on the other hand it is important for a person to maintain their identity
regardless of where they live. At times immigrants find it difficult to achieve a balance and for
many families it is a struggle over generations. There are different levels of assimilation, some

Success And Its Elements Of Success
Success and its elements As we all fold the page on an academic year, for some of us this might
have been the most important year of our lives. As we end school and prepare our brains for the
next phase, we indulge our thoughts in the prize that everyone dreams of, what some would call
The Pinnacle of Civilization . Our minds drift off thinking of Success, and at that instant we
tremble, panic and curl into the corner, as the shadow of the obstacles that will stand in our path
appears across the horizon. Today, I ll try to help us all by identifying the critical elements behind
success. I am not claiming that I hold the key, but maybe together we can sniff out the truth behind
it.
To start with: Confidence is the belief in your abilities, your capabilities, your attitude and your
Opinion, Freedom of inner doubt and conflict. It is known as the memory of success and the key
to the city of achievements. The positive feeling of one s ability to accomplish any certain or
general activities in life, a belief that one s self and capabilities are equal to most any task.
That might sound a little complicated and threatening. My Mother always tells me: Nobody is
perfect, you re better than nobody, but nobody is better than you. And that is precisely the root of
confidence, the belief that you can achieve anything, the way anybody else can. No matter the
odds, you can do what you want, because you believe you can.
Confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and

195). This is relevant because it helps to better understand the free riding problem, which will be
addressed and defined later on.
Quite a bit of research exists to highlight many types of relationships and how those relationships
have reduced certain risks, or introduced new risks. Many researchers have tried to consider the
uniqueness of the common examples that have been accented in anthropological research, like the
Bantu people and the Basarwa people that Elizabeth Cashdan (1985) discusses. Although not all
researchers have been as successful in identifying risk reduction reciprocity model in cross cultural
examples, such as Bliege Bird et. al. (2002), which proposed that this could be because of their
treatment of free riders or just that they practice food and resource sharing without any concern for
reducing risk of loss of resources. Either way, as previously mentioned quite a bit of research has
been conducted to identify types of risk reduction reciprocity strategies, and much more research
has been done to examine different types of relationships. Overall, the primary concern of this
paper is going to be trying to identify a relationship or association between the proposed model and
the formation of different types

Hunting and Trapping Bobcats in New Hampshire
In 2010 the University of New Hampshire did a study and estimated about 1400 bobcats in the

The Process Of Receiving Or Rendering Systematic Instruction
Assignment One: Sequence One
The process of receiving or rendering systematic instruction, can acquire to the definition of what
an education is. Explicating the meaning of what it is to be educated in the United States of
America, can be provided with a plethora of theories and ideas from an individual s perspective.
Individuals can be educated in various ways. A route in giving this systematic instruction can be
viewed through films. Freedom Writers, is a film that depicts education through specified cultures
within America. The film celebrates an appropriate relationship between students and their teacher.
As an educator, Mrs. Gruwell, felt inclined to seek the needs of her students through literature and
by giving them a sense of hope. Coming from very complex backgrounds, Gruwell s job in the
classroom manages to break down stereotypical barriers and to shift the attitudes of these
adolescents into a more optimistic view on education. War is often mentioned in the film and
appears to conjoin the key issues that already exist in their lives. The plot and characters in the film
do a fine job of informing what it means to have an American education.
Freedom Writers is a film that infiltrates education within one of the most grueling parts of

The Ramifications Of Population Growth
THE RAMIFICATIONS OF POPULATION GROWTH
Global human population is mounting at an alarming rate. In fact, in the next fifteen years, it is
expected to reach 8.5 billion. Even if a worldwide policy of two children per couple, instead of the
current 2.8, were enacted tomorrow, the global population would continue to grow for about
seventy years before stabilizing at about thirteen billion people (Pimentel, 155). The ramifications
of such growth could be catastrophic. Overpopulation contributes to a multitude of problems such
as the degradation of environmental quality, the depletion of natural resources, the spread of
disease, and an escalation in crime and conflict.
The sheer number of people leeching off of the earth undermines environmental quality. But beyond
that is the fact that individuals are consuming more. According to Thomas Friedman s book Hot,
Flat, and Crowded, there is not only an increasing global population, but also a growing number of
people demanding a middle class lifestyle. So not only do you have more people demanding
resources, but you also have people demanding more resources. Friedman blames this phenomenon
for the rise in global temperatures (Friedman, 8). Human life puts a massive strain on natural
resources. Consider food production, alone. The agriculture needed to support the current 7.1
billion people on earth requires about 500,000 gallons of freshwater per acre and enormous
amounts of fossil fuel for inputs such as fertilizer and machinery

Native culture, he starts to fit in the society and gets acceptance of people. His mom gives him
the shirt that he had on the day he arrived at reserve to remind him of where he came from and
how he wanted to be. Although his mom revamps the shirt that the sleeves were cut back regular,
the long pointed collar was gone and the ribbons ran across the chest and back and down the arms
(Wagamese 301). He learns the traditional ways of Native and makes the connection with people,
especially his family, and now he changes the way that he used to dressing. Everyone needs family
in order to find themselves, no one could be his own person without knowing himself. The
surroundings compel Garnet to learn Whites instead of his own culture cause he lost connection
and himself. Setting is one aspect of the culture that affect Garnet s identity in social way. The
setting of the book is very important in Garnet s character development and personal growth. The
relationship between Garnet and his family is detached because he was raised by foster homes
instead of his family, that makes him a lot differences between him and Natives. When he returns to
the reserve, he has lots of things need to learn, especially the traditional Native spiritual ways. At the

Jaquelle-Personal Narrative
I ve known of Jaquelle since my junior year in highschool. I met him one day during rap period
playing a computer game. We d greet each other and have a couple laughs whenever we saw one
another, but that was really the extent of our friendship. It wasn t until this year, my senior year,
that Jaquelle became one of my closest friends. During the first semester I walked into my third
period class looking for friends, as everyone does during the first day of school. I didn t see any of
my close friends, but I saw Jaquelle and knew that we were cool so I sat by him. We had are laughs
and jokes as we did in rap period from the previous year. It wasn t until we started talking about our
past experiences in high schoolthat we got close. I remember

Decision Making Model Essay
Decision Making Model
Abstract
Decision making models can be very effective in problem solving. Scheduling is a big problem at
Direct HomeHealth Care and a solution needed to be found. Scheduling software which can be very
expensive was the only conclusion that could be reached. With much thought and analysis a
resolution was reached with critical thought and a decision making model from the Small Business
Development Center.
Decision making models can be very helpful in analyzing a problem and setting up a step by step
process to evaluate and come to a favorable conclusion. Recently there has been a problem at my
agency with scheduling and the difficulty the on call schedulers have with toting around several

A new solution needed to be reached to schedule patients more efficiently.
The next step would be to analyze the situation and identify key uncertainties. After thinking this
problem through there was a realization that a computer program was the way to go. Computer
programs can be very expensive, some around thirty thousand dollars. This would be a very large
expense and I am not sure Direct HomeHealth Care is ready to spend that kind of money. A new
computer program would also mean schedulers need to be trained and that could be very time
consuming. If the schedulers were not computer literate it could become very complicated. Despite
the drawbacks such as expense and training this was the only workable solution. This would
eliminate the heavy books and also allow for more precise and efficient patient scheduling.
Gathering data is the next step in the model and several software companies were consulted. All
of the companies had excellent products with very impressive features. The scheduling software
not only scheduled patients but it also kept track of payroll and billing. Payroll and billing are
both very important departments of Direct HomeHealth Care and the process to fulfill each task
weekly is monstrous. If the software could help to alleviate these two jobs it would be a great
benefit. After speaking with representatives from a number of companies an affordable solution
was found

The people of this time also believe in fate and place their fate in the hands of the gods.
Gilgamesh lives in a way that is ordained by the gods: The destiny was fulfilled which the father
of the gods, Enlil of the mountain, had decreed for Gilgamesh (Sandars 118). The leader is not
overly revered and is seen as embodying the fate, security, and stability of the people and their
kingdom. When Gilgamesh dies, the people lament. Every aspect of life is ascribed to a god or
gods. The death of Gilgamesh is attributed to Ereshkigal, the Queen of Death, and to all the gods
of the dead (Sandars 119). The people see the world as a place of many dangers, ruled by
different gods who behave as rulers of their particular kingdom. Humbaba is such a ruler, and his
domain is the forest known as the Country of the Living, lying somewhere on the outer bounds of
earth and reality (Sandars 33). The people value the warlike strength of Gilgamesh because he can
protect them from these other gods, as well as from other rulers who might attack them. In ancient
Sumeria, the people came more and more to depend on any leader who could accomplish such a
feat and protect them from their neighbors, intruders from outside the area, and anyone who might
want to plunder their villages. The tendency was thus toward greater centralization and increased
power in the hands of whichever

Essay On Footwork In Volleyball
On the whole; volleyball can be very difficult, one thing that makes it so hard is passing. There
are two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the
player sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball
to land on and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a
squat and raise themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands
and creates a diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out
to cover more space on the ball. It is very light with little to no rotation, the set is hard to do but
when it is perfected; it helps the game greatly. Foot work and the position of the ball helps a lot
too. Footwork helps in getting the ball up in the air for the setter to do their job and keep the
game going. Footwork is a necessary part in volleyball. Ball placement is also very important...

If the player is not at the right place at the right time, the ball is going to hit the court. A very
important element for positioning is footwork. Without proper footwork, the game known as
volleyball would be very difficult. The player needs to have quick feet and know where to step
and when. Speed is also very important; volleyball has a lot of movement to it. Moving up to the
net and then moving back to hit, then moving up and back repeat. To do it right, speed is very
important to have. Awareness on the court is necessary, the players need to know who is where
and where is the ball. Without awareness the player runs the risk of getting hit by the ball and
losing the game for the team. Finally, the last aspect to positioning is quick thinking. The player
needs to know where to hit the ball and which way to pass very fast. Also setters need to know who
to set in order to get a good hit for the

Then communication module which was until in standby reception mode will transmit this
information by the microcontroller to the other device present in that area. On receiving the data
by the second circuit, which is on standby reception mode, it will process the signal information
and display the information on the LCD display and if necessary even sound a buzzer.
Similarly, when the user gives the signal for overtaking, the microcontroller will give a signal to
cc2500 stating the information source and data. This will then be relayed to the module in the
proceeding vehicle. As in above, the forward vehicle will get this information and display the
number of the preceding vehicle which sent the data and alert the vehicle that the vehicle wants to
overtake it.
* Component Details : The list of components used in this project is given as follows: 1) Micro
controller 2) Communication module3) LCD display4) Switches5) 7805 regulator6) Resistors and
capacitors.
Of all the components listed above, microcontroller card or IC is the heart of the circuit and its cost
is high as well. The costliest part of this circuit is the communication module on which this
particular project is to be implemented.

Stereotypes In The Future Of Life By Edward O. Wilson
Stereotypes are always present and may lead to conflicts between groups because of the thoughts
that are assumed, even though they are not always accurate. As represented by Edward O. Wilson
in The Future of Life, the use of stereotypes in both the people first critics and the
environmentalists against each other s causes an unproductive nature by Wilson s use of pathos and
similar structural aspects. The opposing attitudes represented by both the groups of each other
heavily relies on the use of pathos by Wilson because particular facts or inclusions may invoke
some emotion or cause people to think differently about a specific situation. A great attack on the
environmentalists from the people first critics was stating that they are far left

In What ways is Sexuality portrayed as central to the conflicts of the individual v society in Ken
Kesey s One flew over the cuckoo s nest and Tennessee Williams A street car named desire ?
The capacity of sexual feelings within the individual is central to both the development and
fundamental basis of any significant character. As observed in both One flew over the cuckoos nest

Their appearances can consequently be said to be greatly symbolic of their role within the narrative.
The use of colour is also symbolic of character sexuality Red hots!! or face and neck the colour of
oxblood leather , Red is symbolic of passion and is connected to
McMurphy and Stanley, whereas the colours ivory [5] and pale blue [6] are used in describing the
weaker characters that deny sexuality. The individuals role within the narrative is dependant on the
conflict that arises, in these texts, due to variations within their own sexuality and society s
subsequent reactions. Sexual imagery also surrounds the characters; McMurphey and Stanley
further giving, once more, indication of their sexuality big stiff thumb or having those coloured
lights going , more subtly there is also animalistic imagery
Stanley stalks fiercely . The images constructed are emblematic of the characters sexuality in the
same way as the physical descriptions previously. Sexuality being established in a variety of ways
to then allow a character to be fully established, in doing so a character can be categorized into a
stereotype which means the audience can then envisage a potential outcome by using the rules of
conventionalism that are assigned with a stereotype. Despite the typecast of these two characters
through sexuality, the narrative that surrounds each is unique. This uniqueness allows the fight
each one pursues against

What Is Hard Bop
1.Cool Jazz has a faster tempo than hard bop. Cool jazz is a lot more laid back and relaxed less
improvisation. Cool jazz is associated with the west coast or California in the 1950 s and 1960 s.
Hard bop is an extension of bebop just edgier which seems almost opposite of the easy going, laid
back cool jazz. Hard bop is more attached to the east coast or New York where things are a little
funkier, hard bop had a little more improvisation happening in the pieces. Hard bop comes across
as more wild to me. Cool jazz was more introverted (Dr. Walton, notes, pg. 3) Examples of cool jazz
artists would be Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Paul Desmond their work has great sound and tempo.
Examples of hard bop jazz that was not overly classical like cool

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment.
(thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a
deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly
within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also
cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against
the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric
because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these
opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNA
tests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules
contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the
inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play
important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at
the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect s innocence. With
DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be
used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution.

Charles Baudelaire Use Of Opium
Opium is widely regarded to be the creative nucleus for a wide breadth of Romantic literary texts
and authors. Charles Baudelaire, Thomas De Quincey, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and William
Wordsworth were all among the number of notable Romantic figures and essayists who utilized
opiates as a literary medium. This is hardly surprising as opium in many ways captured the zeitgeist
of both early romanticismand the nineteenth century as a whole; it was fantastical, serene, all
consuming, and surreal. It would send its user into violent vacillations of highs and lows until they
could no longer differentiate between reverie a term De Quincey himself would often employ to
illustrate the hallucinative states he would find himself in and reality.

Effects Of Amendment 2 On The State Florida
Has anyone done any research on what the effects Amendment 2 would have on the state Florida?
Well the opposition clearly did not do any research and the politicians used smooth talking fallacies
to blind side the voters. It is time to see the holes in their stance on medical marijuana.
The Smokescreen as defined by the author Joe Cardona from the Miami Herald, is the lack of
liability Amendment 2 brought to the table when it hit the polls in October. His meaning behind
this is because a medical marijuana user would not be receiving a prescription from a trained
medical physician. Instead, they would be receiving a referral for a license to receive treatment
and they would have it forever. Also as part of Joe Cardona s Smokescreen theory, because the fact
that Amendment 2 is a constitutional amendment that there would have been no way to tweak or
amended it, like a legislative law would. So regulating the consumption of medical marijuana would
be impossible. (Cardona, 2014)
Unfortunately he is not the only one to interpret Amendment 2 this way. Dr. Rafael Miguel,
director of the Sarasota Memorial Institute for Advanced Medicine s Pain Medicine Program and
representatives for Drug Free America. He states that You don t get refills, you get it forever. There
s no regulation on consumption. (Gillin, 2014)
These bold statements were completely wrong and very misinforming. The referral would also
have a date attached, so a doctor would put on the referral how long the

Guilt In The Sniper
During the times of war, lines are blurred and deaths arise where guilt has no room to wrap itself
around a soldier s head as they choose between killing and being killed. Under the summer
evening and heavy artillery fire of Dublin, Ireland, a republican sniper lays waiting, in a fanatical
haze, behind the parapet of a building s roof. He decides to light a cigarette, despite the risk of
exposure, and encounters an enemy sniper opposite the street from his position. Promptly after,
an enemy vehicle approaches, met by an informant, who divulged the sniper s location. Having to
execute the informant and a soldier exposed in the open turret, the marksman seeks upon the rival
sniper, killing him by a ruse of playing dead along with an arm shot and feebly. Following a
moment of hysteria, he evades the bullets of a machine gun, throwing himself aside the corpse only
to find it to be his brother. In The Sniper , Liam O Flaherty suggests the... Show more content on

parapet of the roof. This means that there is danger everywhere, vigilant and waiting for the

sniper s position to the soldiers in the armored vehicle. After shooting both the informer and the
soldier on the street, a shot consequently rings out. I m hit, he muttered No matter how well of a
marksman he is, he can still be wounded in battle and he has. The woman s corpse lay still in the
gutter. The informant would be on the side of the Free Staters as the sniper is a republican;
however, since she had acted upon her beliefs, she had been assassinated attempting to flee. No

Please answer this question given the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying. (400 650 words) As I mentioned in my application questions, academically, I want to major in fine arts offered by College of Arts Sciences. The life at Fordham made me unconsciously own the extracurricular life I desire, both for art and social life, while Vanderbilt taught me to appreciate them by losing at first. I believe Upenn, with excellent fine art education and the best social life, is the perfect fit for me. The undergraduate Fine Arts Program is uniquely offered by both the Graduate Schoolof Design and the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences; the specialization and practicality of graduate education undoubtedly improves the quality of undergraduate education. • 3. Essay on Thomas Malthus Section Summary Thomas Malthus Section Summary Malthus work, Essay on the Principle of Population, is often cited, first by Darwin himself, to have influenced Darwin s conception of the theory of natural selection. His work, though unpopular, and often proven to be off the mark, did in fact bring to the forefront many socio economic issues that are still being debated today: populationcontrol, food production and concerns over uncontrollable diseases arising from the effects of over population. In this passage it is stated that Malthus was proven wrong: ...Malthus dire predictions have proven to be wrong... (Efficiency and Equity 211). However, though his calculations have proven to be wrong because he could not accurately account for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, Malthus did not correctly identify the growth in family size as a reflexive response to economic necessity. Question Two The argument that Malthus set growth rates of food in relation to population ignored the role of food prices is accurate. In fact, by using set rates only in relation to each other, he ignored much more than food prices. In an artificial economy established in an economic lab such set ratios can be accurately predictive. However, in the natural environment, there are many external factors that would affect change on his model, and did affect change. Prices are a key oversight in his theory. While the basic premise that population growth may outstrip the growth in food productivity was true based on the circumstances within which he operated, he didn t account for the economics of food productivity to drive an increase in production worldwide that offset any local market conditions and shortages in supply. In yet another respect, the role of food prices may depress population growth in that if food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Courteney Cox Case Courteney Cox is reportedly desperate to go for counselling with ex fiancГ© Johnny McDaid as she is said to be hopeful that they can still fix their relationship. The former Friends star and the Run hit maker just recently called off their engagement with undisclosed reasons on what really went wrong with their relationship. However, a new report claimed that the two stars had an argument over their nuptial plans that led to their split. Things have been rocky for a while, a source disclosed to Britain s Grazia magazine, as per The Hamilton Spectator. They were arguing over wedding plans, had one almighty row and she asked him to leave. The source also claimed that both stars are now devastated, especially Courteney. The actress is said to be claiming that what they are going through right now is just a trial separation and they are said to be figuring out how to move forward. The source also alleged to the magazine that Cox is desperate to have relationship counselling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Comparing John Smith And William Bradford s Of Plymouth... When in comes to first hand experiences with the New Word, John Smith and William Bradford have a good idea of what it is like. Although both men are very different, they have some similarities. The short story, The General History of Virginia, John Smith shares his and his crew s experiences with the New World, just like the short story, Of Plymouth Plantation, by William Bradford does. While these short stories both fall under the same category, coming to the new world, they are not exactly the same nor are they much different from each other. John Smith came to the New World and landed in Jamestown for one particular reason, for tobacco. Had we been as free from all sins as gluttony and drunkenness we might have been canonized for saints, but our President would never have been admitted for engrossing to his private... (Smith 70 71).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pilgrims were puritans who came to the New World for religious freedom because they were being persecuted. Coming to the New World was tough to manage, but their faith in God helped them get through it all step by step. For example, Bradford writes, ... they fell upon their knees and blessed the God of heaven who had brought them over the vast and furious ocean... (Bradford 78). This just shows how much faith the pilgrims had in their religion. They believed that if they kept their faith, that possible everything would be okay. Another difference that they had was that John Smith s story was in first person, and the Pilgrims story was in third person. John Smith used a handful of adjectives to describe himself as strong and brave. As for the Pilgrims, Bradford did not give any implications that he himself was a Pilgrim, which is why his story was in third person. Not only that, but he did not use pronouns like, I, We, or Us. This is a minor difference, but it is significant because it shows different point of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on A poem and a loaded gun A Poem and a Loaded Gun The post civil war era was wrought with sexism and backwards thinking. Emily Dickinson was born in 1830, wrote 1800 poems in her lifetime. She has become known for unfolding the social boundaries surrounding women in this time period. Most of her life was shrouded in seclusion and mystery. In the realm of poetry, authors are creative with their usage of literary techniques in order to illustrate their point of view to the reader. Emily Dickinson is especially known for her precise diction, powerful imagery, and obscure timing or rhythm. The mood portrayed here is that of eventfulness, even usefulness, it is apparent that the speaker feels more fulfilled or somehow more whole. Albert Gelpi, anther notable critic of Dickinson s work, points out that already by the second stanza I and he have become we ...the rhythm and repetition underscoring the momentous change of identity. By doing this the author introduces the theme of possession vs. possessed and the inherent contradiction of the concept, referencing the fact that one cannot be without the other. The second notable use of interesting diction can be found in the speaker s description of her smile. She compares her smile to the aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This notable according to Christine Miller, a notable commentator of Dickinson s work, because she does not compare it to an event but to a completed action. She says the past perfect verb is more chilling than the present tense would be. Miller notes this same technique later in the poem when the speaker describes guarding as ... • 8. Break Break Break Analysis The poem Break, Break, Break was composed by Lord Tennyson Alfred. Written in rhyming quatrain stanzas with a trimeter rhythm, this piece of literature expresses the thoughts of a man who has recently lost someone he was close to. Accordingly, the themes displayed in this poem are death, sorrow, and passing time. The composer of the poem is unable to speak his mind, for his tongue will not allow him to speak the thoughts that arise in [him] (4). This phrasedisplays the emotional distress being experience by the author, as well as avoidance of responsibility for what he is unable to say. He does not take claim of being unable to say his thoughts aloud but rather blames the inability on his tongue. Later on in the poem, we learn of the reason for this emotional distress the author is experiencing. The author longs for the touch of a vanished hand /And the sound of a voice that is still (11 12). These two eerie indicators point the reader towards the conclusion that the author has lost someone with whom he was close. The author continues to use the physical world to describe the one he has lost, emphasizing the presence of death within the poem. The combination of his inability to say what thoughts he has and his use of physical world descriptions for this missing person may indicate that he is still in the early stages of grief, attempting to fully comprehend his loss. The author includes implications of jealousy within his poem. This jealousy arises when he first observes a fisherman s boy playing joyfully with his sister and then when he sees a sailor lad singing cheerfully in his boat on the bay. These lines providing evidence of this begin with O well (5,7). The use of this phrase before his observations leads the reader to the conclusion that he is jealous of the happiness of these people. After suffering a great loss, one is inclined to wish they could once again experience the joy they see in others. This is further evident with the presence of the statement of but the tender grace of a day that is dead/Will never come back to me (15 16). The authors thoughts of jealousy and death lead to the main theme of this poem, sorrow. The author recalls the day that he was able to enjoy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Believable Space In The Philadelphia Story The Philadelphia Story creates a believable space by making storytelling its main focus. Like similar classical films, this film provides little room to let the audience question anything happening onscreen, as most objects given focus within the mise en scene are important for the story s progression. For example, early in the films screen time, Lord meets her fiancГ©, George Kittredge, at a stable with her uncle and sister. In the very first shot of Lord s uncle, Willie, he is holding a copy of Spy Magazine over his face in the foreground as Lord and her sister approach from the background. Kittredge stands up and takes the magazine from Dinah, and Dinah exits on the right of the frame to avoid cluttering the shot. The camera zooms in from a medium long shot to a medium shot, as Kittredge and Lord look at the magazine together, with Lord continuing to make fun of the magazine s vapid articles. The shot establishes Kittredge and Lord s opposing ideas of domestic life, placing the magazine in the centre of the shot between Kittredge and Lord. Lord reads an article aloud, which highlights how Lord s dismissive views of patriarchal ideologies could affect her relationships with both Kittredge and the press. Lord folds up and tosses the magazine onto the ground, illustrating how little she thinks of it, and the sequence continues. • 10. Trunk Movement Analysis In relation to trunk movement and this week s forum, I chose to write about the sit up. The sit up is commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your iliopsoas is attached to your femur, crosses your hips, and attaches to the lower ribs. This muscle promotes flexing of the hip and spine rotation. Your sartorius runs diagonally across the front of your thigh and is a long, narrow muscle which assists with both bending of the hip and knee. Your tensor fascia latae is a thin muscle that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and assists with hip flexion as well as leg abduction. • 11. David Farber And Bethy Bailey s America David Farber and Bethy Bailey s America in the 70 s is a collection from nine authors giving insight on the misunderstood decade. Each author draws heavily on the popular culture in the seventies to illustrate the political and economic transformation. Overshadowed by the 1960s, the seventies are thought to lack passionate champions and struggled in economic transformation. That, with the addition of the defeat in Vietnam, the loss in faith of the president after three failed presidencies and race and gender issues helped camouflage this decade. Americans had uncertainty about the meaning of happiness, success, patriotism and national identity (pg. 2). The first theme is transformation from the manufacturing that America was used to seeing to a larger focus on what technology could offer. In the essay Culture, Technology and the Cult of Tech , Timothy Moy points out how the computer was used to try and influence the people to improve the future. Also proving the importance of technology, Moy mentions that technology was also used as a hobby for some people. In a time that was casted with despair, tech geeks were still able to find joy and discover improvements for the future. Using examples like Apple, Moy also proved the ideology that was being used with the rise of technology, If you [were] interested in democracy and its future, you d better understand computers (Pg. 212). • 12. Still Water Case Study The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while, lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater. One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands today, grew into a small village that he called Dacotah . In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate across the St. Croix. History 241 Patricia Minter November 7, 2014 In United States history, there have been few inventions that have completely astonished the whole nation; the personal computer was one of them. The introduction of the IBM Personal Computer in the United States created a novel, profound interest in technology in the 1980s. PC Magazine from February 1982 indicated that technology was slowly improving around that time, but the personal computer took a giant leap into the future and lead to various new inventions and ideas. To put the amount of this hazardous chemical that Americans use to bury their people in perspective, it is enough to fill one and a quarter Olympic sized swimming pools each year (Calderone). Unfortunately, this is only one of the many issues that is hurting the environment and has arised from modern burials. Because of the negative environmental effects that modern burial customs are causing, Americans should switch back to natural burials in order to decrease the impact that modern burial practices have left on Earth. In antebellum America, burial customs were onced a personal family issue. As custom, the families of early Americans were expected to wash and dress their loved ones in family parlors and would... Compassion In Thank You, MaAm By Langston Hughes Compassionate people are geniuses in the art of living, more necessary to the dignity, security, and joy of humanity than the discoveries of knowledge. Albert Einstein Everyone has difficulties and tragedies in life, some more than others. Though when people show compassion, it makes your spirits rise and make your challenges more bearable. In the short story, Thank you, Ma am by Langston Hughes, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, a woman whose purse has been an attempted target by a boy, shows the theme of compassion with an overflowing amount of it. The boy, Roger, learns throughout the story that compassion is very important, and his true personality is revealed by some woman he doesn t even know. At the beginning of Thank you, Ma am, we see how just how compassionate Mrs. Jones really is. The moment she meets Roger, she tells the boy to wash his face. Least I can do is wash your face. Are you hungry? This might not seem like a very compassionate thing to do at first, however, she doesn t even know the boy, yet she has enough compassion to make sure he is clean. Then, she takes the boy inside of her house! In addition, the boy, Roger asks, You going to take me to jail? But Mrs. Jones doesn t. Maybe she sees that Roger is really a good boy inside, so she shows compassion to bring out his true kindness. This makes me think that he was probably trying to steal because he had to. • 20. How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction Experiment From the results that were collect throughout the experimental investigation has proved the hypothesis to only be partially right. Multiple tests were made when conducting the experiment, two clear solutions were combined at various temperatures and concentrations. The hypothesis states that by adjusting the concentration of the reactants will cause the reaction to either speed up at a higher concentration or slow down at a lower concentration. In the reaction temperature should have a similar effect on the experiment, in that increasing the temperature will cause an increase of particle movement and cause more collision, thus increasing the reaction rate. Therefore decreasing the temperature will decrease the rate of the reaction. From the results given in Tables 2 and 3 it shown that every time the concentration is halved the time is increased. When the concentrations of both KIO3 and NaHSO3 are decreased the time has increased, some concentrations having a higher increase than others. In each concentration decrease the time is at least doubled from the previous concentration time, which is therefore increasing the rate of the reaction. Although unlike the change in concentration, when the temperature of the reactants were either increased or decreased their was no significant change. As shown in table 4. When the temperature was either increased or decreased to 10В°C, 30В°C, 40В°C and 50В°C the average times are all within one second of each other. Except for when the reactants were cooled to a further 5В°C the reaction time was increased by more than double the reaction time. This showing that the results from the investigation did not fully support the stated hypothesis. The standard rate law for the Iodine Clock reaction, is a first order reaction for KIO3 and a second order reaction for NaHSO3. To determine this you must substitute the values into the equations and whichever produces a straight line graph determines whether it is a first or second order reaction. In graph 1. It shows that KIO3 is a second order reaction, this is due to the second order reaction graph being straighter than the first order graph. This meaning the reaction proceeds at a rate proportional to the square of the concentration, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, one version of Hell as described in Jean Paul Sartres play No Exitis that the setting of Hell is a mostly empty room in which three people are selected to stay for eternity (Sartre). The fact of the matter is that the three people have no looking glass in which to see themselves, no way to know how the other people in the room feel about them, and no way to get away from each other, for they are locked in this room for eternity (Sartre). The cause of this negative outlook is due to a tragic confrontation that she experiences with the world around her. She looks beyond her own sins and has a sudden realization that in fact anyone has the ability to transgress just as easily as she did. Hester is terror stricken by the revelations of knowing that others sin. The fact that she is terror stricken suggests that she is now looking at the world around her in a way she never previously had. Hester is overwhelmed with terror to realize that people are genuinely immoral. This scene highlights a major concept of brooding romanticism: a character having a tragic confrontation with the universe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the final paragraph, those with vulgar minds are credited with contributing grotesque horror to their conception of the scarlet letter. However, this grotesque horror is not so grotesque after all. Hawthorne reveals that the scarlet letter being a symbol of infernal fire is more of a reality for Hester than an actual rumor. Associating the scarlet letter with something infernal implies that it can be connected to the idea of Hell. This yields a very dark and dire perspective of reality for Hester, and the connection of Hester to Hell through the scarlet letter epitomizes the brooding Romantic inside of ... As such, there are certain requirements that must be met in order for both shares and dividends to be lawfully issued. These requirements are located within the company s articles and statute. Cultural Assimilation Of Hispanic Immigrants Cultural Assimilation of Latino Immigrants in the United States Latino immigrants have always had many obstacles when coming into the United States, the difference between the American and the Latin cultures is what has caused a huge hurdle that immigrants have found hard to overpass. This obstacle has caused many generations to go through cultural assimilation. Mize et al. (2012) explain that cultural assimilation is the adaptation of immigrants to unfamiliar cultural patterns, which include language and the value systems of other cultures. In order for immigrants to be successful in another country, which is not of their origin; they need to learn how to assimilate to their new homes. Immigrants have learned that they need to adapt in order to get to experience new opportunities and also to learn from new cultures that are not theirs (Mize et al., 2012). Immigrants have learned that they are not leaving behind their own believes and norms, but mixing their norms, this gives them the opportunity to create and mix their culture with the new. Cultural assimilation can be hard to achieve because in one hand it is important to change in order to live within a different culture, but on the other hand it is important for a person to maintain their identity regardless of where they live. At times immigrants find it difficult to achieve a balance and for many families it is a struggle over generations. There are different levels of assimilation, some immigrants come to the ... As we end school and prepare our brains for the next phase, we indulge our thoughts in the prize that everyone dreams of, what some would call The Pinnacle of Civilization . Our minds drift off thinking of Success, and at that instant we tremble, panic and curl into the corner, as the shadow of the obstacles that will stand in our path appears across the horizon. Today, I ll try to help us all by identifying the critical elements behind success. I am not claiming that I hold the key, but maybe together we can sniff out the truth behind it. To start with: Confidence is the belief in your abilities, your capabilities, your attitude and your Opinion, Freedom of inner doubt and conflict. It is known as the memory of success and the key to the city of achievements. The positive feeling of one s ability to accomplish any certain or general activities in life, a belief that one s self and capabilities are equal to most any task. That might sound a little complicated and threatening. My Mother always tells me: Nobody is perfect, you re better than nobody, but nobody is better than you. • 38. The Ramifications Of Population Growth THE RAMIFICATIONS OF POPULATION GROWTH Global human population is mounting at an alarming rate. In fact, in the next fifteen years, it is expected to reach 8.5 billion. Even if a worldwide policy of two children per couple, instead of the current 2.8, were enacted tomorrow, the global population would continue to grow for about seventy years before stabilizing at about thirteen billion people (Pimentel, 155). The ramifications of such growth could be catastrophic. Overpopulation contributes to a multitude of problems such as the degradation of environmental quality, the depletion of natural resources, the spread of disease, and an escalation in crime and conflict. The sheer number of people leeching off of the earth undermines environmental quality. But beyond that is the fact that individuals are consuming more. According to Thomas Friedman s book Hot, Flat, and Crowded, there is not only an increasing global population, but also a growing number of people demanding a middle class lifestyle. So not only do you have more people demanding resources, but you also have people demanding more resources. Friedman blames this phenomenon for the rise in global temperatures (Friedman, 8). Human life puts a massive strain on natural resources. Consider food production, alone. After thinking this problem through there was a realization that a computer program was the way to go. Computer programs can be very expensive, some around thirty thousand dollars. This would be a very large expense and I am not sure Direct HomeHealth Care is ready to spend that kind of money. A new computer program would also mean schedulers need to be trained and that could be very time consuming. If the schedulers were not computer literate it could become very complicated. There are two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the player sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball to land on and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a squat and raise themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands and creates a diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out to cover more space on the ball. The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNA tests and profiling.
