Should Police Use Deadly Force Research Paper
Should police be able to use deadly force? Deadly force is used by an officer, to defend
themselves from life threatening assault against other people. Police must protect themselves and
others as a citizen they serve. It may not happen as much as we think, but in certain incidents, there
are times it is used (Williams, 1999). My opinion about deadly forceis there is a right time to use it
and a wrong way. The right way to me is when policeenter a situation in gunfire being exchanged
between an officer and a person the officer is then at risk of losing his life and to protect anyone
around and the officer, then deadly force must then take place. Basically, as soon a person was to
open fire on an officer I believe the officer would then have... Show more content on

However, if he is not tied in with others, still may go and commit dangerous crimes and put
everyone at danger. When using deadly force, we save an officers life and stopped a criminal
from hurting others (Williams, 1996). My opinion in using deadly force the wrong way is when
an officer is chasing someone and they shoot them point blank. I do not agree with that as the
person is running to get away from the problem, as there are other things that could be done such
as tazered the person to get them to fall down a resist. I just feel you must know how to act
accordingly with each different situation to protect yourself and the other around, because when
you go to court to convict the defendant to charge them you must have done the right thing and
evidence of it to back it up. The police deal with people every day, who seem to kill. When
officers are forced to use deadly force, they become scared. The police avoid deadly force at all
cost. When they do fire they first shoot into the air, missing the target on purpose. This happens
so the person will hopefully become scared and will put the weapon down (Williams, 1999).
Police must be quick and alert when dealing with a deadly force situation. The police must do and
choose the right choices when dealing with a situation, because if they do anything unethical can
receive jail time or even get

The Unjust American Freedom
The Unjust Freedom The way the Americans gained independence may not be as valiant as it
seems. The war lacked just war criteria despite many arguments. The idea was foolish and
unnecessary and proved the lack of development amongst this young territory. Many factors lead
to this premature uprising and the French and Indian War is a great reason for most of those
factors. The decision by the American colonists to revolt against British rule was premature and
overly aggressive. The American plea for a Revolution did not meet the criteria of a just war.
The factors for a just war are as follows: probability of success, last resort, proportionate cause,
comparative justice, competent authority, just cause, and right intention (Keown American ). For
a war to be just, the war must meet all of the criteria for a just war. Though it s hard to name a
war that met all of the just war criteria, it is just as hard, if not harder to name a war that was
justified. At the time, the probability of success would be against the colonists. The British had the
best navy in the world at the time and were a global powerhouse (Keown American ). The fight
was not a Кєlast resortКє because independence had been gained from Britain without raising arms
(Keown КєAmericanКє). The colonists lacked proportionate cause because the colonists already
had financial issues and needed foreign mercenary aid to help finance the fight (Keown
КєAmericanКє). Transition There are various points that one could argue

Research Paper On Chest X-Ray
The painless imaging chest X ray Human body is so complicatedly designed that even a minor
issue in an internal organ or organ system can lead to very major consequences for the patient to
bear both physically as well as mentally. But with the increase in advancements in science and
technology, medical science has reached to extremes for finding out the solutions to every
problem faced in the treatment of health problems or any problem faced in the surgeries or
operations. When surgeons faced the problems of not being able to see the inside picture of the
various parts of the bodies then x ray techniques were invented out of which chest X ray is known
to be the most important one. Actually a chest X ray is known to be very fast and painless

Facebook s History Of Startup Fundraising
3Real life case study: Facebook s history of startup fundraising explained
Now, I ve been providing you with an example of an imaginary division of a pie for startup
funding. But imaginary funding isn t quite real life funding, is it?
So, what does all of this look like in the real world are you really able to get $100,000 here and $3
billion there?
Well, if your startup has what it takes then anything is possible. Let s look at one successful startup
funding process: Facebook.
Idea stage
The idea stage with Facebook is a little murky. There have been instances where people have
claimed to have come up with the idea and knowing who had the first light bulb moment is
definitely a bit hard.

Seed and expansion capital
The networking site starts growing rapidly, amassing users in campuses across the US. By the start
of 2005, the site has nearly a million users in Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and Yale.
The company now embarks on a series of investment rounds that bring it closer to an IPO and a
series of buyout attempts from rival companies.
First, the company needed more seed money to continue scaling the business it wanted to move
beyond the university campuses.
So, there is a Series A round in 2005.
Accel Partners, a venture capital firm, led the investment round with the total funds raised hitting
$12,7 million. The valuation of the company hits $87,5 million.
The investment round featured angel investors Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman as well,
who recalled the investment decision in a Forbes article by stating, I remember talking to Accel
after [an event at Stanford]. The key reason they invested was because they talked to Stanford
students and found out that they use Facebook for two hours a day.
Series B followed shortly in April 2006.
The lead investment came from Greylock Partners, with Thiel and Accell featuring strongly during
the round. The total raised this time around stood at $27.5 million, increasing the valuation to $500
million.
Shortly after, Yahoo supposedly tries to acquire the company for $1 billion, which was

Analysis Of The Middle Passage Passage
Stolen from Africa, brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. I have sung
along to this Bob Marley lyrics for years without recognizing how much power and truth his
words represent (Bob Marley, 2017). Slaves were treated like animals and owners had no
disregard for their lives, working them from birth to death. Not all slaves believed that their fate
was set in stone, those brave few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African
slaves were subjected to was immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were
examined by surgeons, branded and held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships
were nicknamed floating tombs because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic
Slave Trade). These boats were cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept
nude to try and embarrass them and they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition,
food portions were very sparse and infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave
Trade).
Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a
step ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. One way in which the slaves tried
to resist was by refusing to eat and drink in an effort to starve themselves. The slave traders had a
tool called the Speculum Oris that was used to hold the slaves mouths open (Dr. Godshalk s
Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade).

Sydney Harbour Research Paper
During the period of over two hundred years of white settlement in Australia, Sydneysiders have
occasionally been warned of the possibility of an invasion. It was in late may and early June in
1942, during the world war II, that Sydney harbour actually experienced an invasion or attack
from three Japanese Midget submarines. On the night of 29th may 1942, five Japanese
substantial submarines positioned themselves 56 kilometers north east of the entrance of Sydney
harbour. At 2.47am the following day one of the submarines I 29 launched a E14Y Glen float
plane crewed by pilot Susumu Ito. He flew an audacious, reconnaissance mission over the harbor
with only aid of his navigation light on the plane, (dimmer than the usual aircraft lights). Susumu
Ito circled the cruiser of USS Chicago and HMAS Canberra twice and confirming the target
before flying off to the east. However while flying east he was spotted by an anti aircraft battery

The Synoptic Gospels In The Gospel Of Mark
Throughout the centuries, from the time of the Augustine, it has not been uncommon for the
Gospel of Mark to be viewed in a negative light when compared to the other Synoptic Gospels. It
has been said that Luke and Matthew were written in an attempt to cover Mark s deficiencies. At
first glance, this is an understandable viewpoint. To the modern layreader, Mark does seem to flow
less evenly and convey less information than its contemporaries. Therefore, among many, Mark was
respected for being the first Gospelwritten and for the precious information it conveyed, but
certainly not for its literary elements. This changed in 1982 when Rhoads and Michie released
the first edition Mark as Story, which is an analysis of Mark as a work of literature. This, as
Mark Allan Powell stated in the afterward, was a new and unexpected way of looking at the
Gospels that pioneered a wave of literary analysis in relation to Scripture. Mark as Story is an
interdisciplinary approach that views the work through the lens of a story told using ancient oral
tradition and analyzes its characters, plot, setting, narrator and original audience. When these
aspects are viewed in this manner, it reveals that the Gospel of Markis, in fact, a literary
masterpiece. The authors of the book begin their exploration of Mark as literature by explaining
their reasons for doing so. Mark, the first of the Synoptic Gospels, made the decision to convey his
beliefs to his audience through the medium of

Experiment #2 Kinetics of the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide
Introduction: Chemical reactions are dependent upon two factors: temperature and concentrations
of substance. We can monitor the rate at which a chemical decomposes or the rate at which a
chemical substance appears. In this experiment we will be measuring the rate of decomposition of
hydrogen dioxide with the following reaction: 2 H202 (aq) 4 2 H20 (l) + 02 (g)
We can trap the oxygengas created into a container thus showing the extent of the reaction and this
will show the rate in which oxygen is created and how the rate will change when we use different
initial concentrations. We do use a catalyst in this reaction to ... Show more content on

It had a lot to do with the time and the amount of oxygen evolved. When holding the leveling bulb
it seemed that the longer I had to hold it level the harder it became to be as accurate. I would find
my arm getting tired and the bulb varying, which would also effect the times that we recorded.
Another thing that could have affected our results was not putting the stopper on the Erlenmeyer
flask fast enough, fumes from the formation of oxygen could have escaped before we got the
stopper on, causing error in the amount and time in which the oxygen was evolved.

A Brief Note On Sweden And Finland And Sweden
Most developed countries have suffered through at least one financial crisis. The term financial
crisis is in itself very broad and applies to a various number of situations in which financial
institutions or financial assets rapidly decrease in value. In the late 1980 s and early 1990 s, the
Scandinavian countries along with Finland all faced rather serious financial crises, but the
outcomes differed vastly among the nations as Denmark and Swedenpushed through to fairly
satisfactory results, but Norway and Finland suffered greater complications. No nation s crisis
was identical to another s and perhaps thereof the different outcomes, but what other factors
played a role in deciding a nation s fate. To better compare and analyze, the focus of this paper
will be placed on simply two of the nations involved Sweden and Finland , two nations bordering
each other, with a great many similarities but two very different outcomes from respective crisis
and how they handled their respective issues, and what can be used for future reference.
American economist Richard G. Anderson (2009) has previously touched briefly on some of the
similarities among the Scandinavian nations crises, specifically referring to a common two stage
sequence in each of the countries. The two stage sequence, as Anderson explains, included rapidly
increasing economic growth accompanied by financial liberalization along with the introduction of
new financial instruments, followed by sharp

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bananas
deforestation and unhealthy soil cause erosion, and the runoff causes frequent flooding and
damage from sedimentation. In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered
that 60 percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff
from coastal bananaplantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono
culture, where all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes
crops easy to manage, these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of
pest, fungi or disease, and will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to
pesticides. In order to prevent this from happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated
that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only
2.7 kilograms are used for the average European cereal crop (Cohen, 2009).
The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack
sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex
conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can
still get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver
via pores on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or
sterility, which he himself and many people he knows who work in banana

Theme Of Enigma By Thomas Moore
Enigma by Thomas Moore
Thomas Moore (1779 1852) was an Irish poet. He is best remembered for his collection Irish
Melodies in which he set words to traditional Irish folk tunes; these songs include The Minstrel
Boy , Dear Harp of My Country and The Last Rose of Summer . He also wrote a large number of
comical and satirical poems, of which the poem Enigma is one.
Enigma takes the form of a riddle and it opens:
Come, riddle me ree, come, riddle me ree,
And tell me what my name may be.
In the poem the United Kingdom s national debt, the unstated answer to the riddle, is likened to the
monster of Frankenstein . And it is not just in this simile that the poem has connections with
Frankenstein : throughout the poem the description and actions of the Enigma bear a marked
similarity with those of the creature in Shelley s novel. In the first stanza, the Enigma is described
as a corpulent giant who stalk[s] hungry and bloated around . This compares with Walton s
description at the end of the novel, where he finds the creature gigantic in stature, yet uncouth and
distorted in its proportions . The Enigma s ability to creep up on and surprise and terrify the

Comparing Parkinson´s Disease And Huntington s Disease
Two Diseases, One Hope: Fetal Neural Transplantation in the Treatment of Parkinson s and
Huntington s Disease
Parkinson s Disease (PD) and Huntington s Disease (HD) are neurodegenerative diseases that are
caused by malfunctions within the motor sector of the nervous system. These malfunctions, which
are caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of
neural cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral
patterns that are subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the
common thread between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising
between cellular connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone,
dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of
dopamine is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various
muscular activities controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16).
In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication
assemblage is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced
by the brain. At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either
because of genetic factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells
are unable to form synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a
neural circuit within the basal ganglia (18).
HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a
condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes
for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions
by causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9).
Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do
with both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative

Analysis Of The House Of Leaves
House of leaves is another contemporary work that portrays insane character. In reference to the
House of leaves, it is obvious that the tension of madness is neither observable nor openly stated; a
phenomenon that reveals that madness is not easily detectable. This is what triggers Gothic plots
to have a positive development as they mainly focus on revealing the why and what of the
occurrence of an event. It is evident that wider experiences, techniques, psychological knowledge as
well as craftsmanship have tremendously advanced such that the earlier Gothic work seems
artificial and naГЇve (Lovecraft, 2013). As Crawford (2014) reveals, the theme of madness runs
through most Gothic narratives and is usually enunciated by the characters where they often
question their own sanity or that of their fellow characters.
Madness in Gothic is not simply a fictional aspect of genres. The theme also incorporates social
implications most notably when viewed in the perspective of Victorian England. Gothic madness
references in relation to literature ascended in the context of a society that is not only fascinated
but also repelled by madness (Punter, 2012). This is evident in Dracula by Bram Stoker where
attempts of containing madness has proven to have a reverse effect of concealing the periphery
that separates mad people from normal ones. In Stoker s film, Renfield, who is deemed as a mad
person endeavors to protect Mina from the wrath of Dracula, a phenomenon that presents the

Why Entrepreneurs Form Business Entities Essay
There are two reasons entrepreneurs form business entities: to protect personal assets and to
reduce taxes, limited liability companies (LLCs) do both. Since their widespread application in
the 1990 s, LLCs have become the most popular U.S. entity formation (Garcia Gallont Kilpinen,
2015). As is the case of corporations, limited liability provides a mythical corporate veil (p. 411)
that protects the members personal assets from creditors (Albert, 2015). One remedy creditors
and other stakeholders may use in response to this protection is to ask a judge to pierce the
corporate veil, which essentially disregards the entity and makes the shareholders personally
responsible for the debt (Vandervoort, 2004). The doctrine of piercing the corporate veil, which
is a term coined by Maurice Wormser, is a potent, albeit limited, exception to the general rule of
corporate limited liability (Fenton, 2013, p.1). Although piercing the corporate veil is said to be
the most litigated issue in corporate law, its application to the unincorporated LLC is still widely
challenged (Garcia Gallont Kilpinen, 2015). This problem is also exacerbated by the fact that
LLCs are legislated by the state in which they are formed, which creates inconsistencies in the
outcomes of veil piercing cases. With every state now having LLC legislation (Albert, 2015),
business owners are carefully selecting which state to form in, based on the perceived preservation
of limited liability. These

Reality Check on Year Round Schooling Many people, including President Barack Obama believe
that year round schooling is the best option for American students, because the year round system
gives students equal amount of time in school, while increasing the efficiency of a single school
building (Ave 1B). More than two million students in some three thousand U.S. schools attend year
round programs in 41 states (Lawson 48). This astonishing number seems large, but really is only
2% of students in the United States. Many of the perceived advantages of year round schooling
revolve around cost and learning efficiency, but in reality the traditional system gives essentially

Also, without public support, year round will fail because the parent s reluctance to send their
children (Gee, 795). Parent reluctance comes from the lack of synchronized time off for vacation.
Work schedules do not typically run on a 45/15 plan and without three months break, families lose
time for a vacation. If a school decides to go year round, communication between the community
and school would have must be very clear as to when students are supposed to be in school
(Wildman et al. 465). The disadvantages of year round schooling are just as important as the
advantages. Cost and benefits in learning show through the massive 98% of students that attend
nine month systems. When a school is running a/c and heating all year this cost will equal the

Regulation of Violent Video Games
Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form
of Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video
games. It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge
that few children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video
games, dating back to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as
killing the bad person, driving dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology
including software, modern computers and other game related technology, the way in which such
violence and other extreme sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic.
Further, as more and more children are getting exposed violent games, there is a growing
awareness among both parents and the government for regulation of such games. Also, apart from
the fact that people were, in general, becoming more aware and conscious, numerous studies were
also being done to find connection between violent video games and the rate at which violence and
crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of a positive correlation. Incidents such
as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened concerns of a potential connection
between video games and violent actions. Many independent social workers including politicians
were continuously trying to evoke public response towards sale of such violent video

Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study
The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation
compared to the surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for
this anomaly was due to the Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower
Bakken shale into the upper Three Forks. Current assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is
a tight and fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The Pronghorn is believed to only
partially inhibit primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor performance across
Painted Woods. The lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This
thinning greatly reduces the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region.... Show more

PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected
from core (Figure 19), the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and
lower Bakken shales. The lack of permeability is supported by lithological analysis indicating a
clay content of up to 50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods asset. The low permeability and
high clay content shows that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude primary migration
of hydrocarbons from the lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However,
this only has a minimal effect on the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole.
Saturation trends in the Pronghorn and the upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that
hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower Bakken into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil
saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn to the base indicating less
hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil saturation never reach
0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil saturation then
gradually increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone. This trend is
observed throughout all the wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of the
Pronghorn. Even though there is less volume of generated lower Bakken hydrocarbons, oil is still
able to be transmitted through the Pronghorn across Painted Woods. However, the quantities
transmitted are likely less compared to other

How Society Uses Today s Everyday Lives That Often Go...
There are many objects that society uses today in their everyday lives that often go unnoticed and
unappreciated. One of those many objects would be the hairbrush. Everyone uses a hairbrush;
people have them in their homes, somewhere hidden in their car, or even at the bottom of their
purses. Numerous people, mostly women, own multiple hairbrushes without realizing it.
Consequently, no one knows how important this object is, yet it being so frequently used. The
common hairbrush, although taken for granted, is a household item that dates back to 1898, which
consists of a variety to choose from, and can deflect self confidence if not used. Lyda A. Newman
was born in Ohio in 1898. This woman is significant because she is the inventor of the hairbrush
(Inventor of an Improved Hairbrush). Newman was also an African American inventor and a
women s rights activist. Newman fought for women s right to vote, working with well known
women s suffrage activists (Lyda Newman Biography). Newman s motive for the inventionof the
hairbrush was designed to promote ventilation for hairand provide storage for excess hair and
impurities, as well as controlling hair with an afro like texture (Inventor of an Improved
Hairbrush). The hairbrush Newman invented had elastic wire teeth along with natural bristles, an
alternative to using animal hair bristles. (Lyda Newman Biography). The bristles Newman used
were safer to use on hair scalps and easy to make. In 1898, Newman applied for a United

Essay on Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
Parental Expectations
Parental expectations are basically the way parents expect their kids to live their lives. The
definition of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of future good or profit .
Parents often expect their kids to be perfect. By this I mean make all the right decisions, do
everything the way the parents want it to be done, and live up to their parents standards. I don t
always agree with a lot of today s parental expectations because some parents try to benefit
themselves instead of the kids. In this essay, I will describe parental expectations from today and
from the play Romeo and Juliet. I will link some of the examples of expectations to movies, or real
life scenarios. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kids have dreams of their own, too.
Another situation in society today is that kids are expected to follow in their parents footsteps.
Some parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever
asking the child s thoughts on the idea. An example of this situation is from the movie Rudolph
the Red Nosed Reindeer . There is an elf named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole,
Hermey is expected to make toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem;
Hermey doesn t want to make toys. Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf
gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away
to not have to make toys anymore and to learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always
ask your children what they think of certain things and what they want in life instead of just
expecting or assuming what they want without their consent. Expectations put a lot of pressure on
kids and it would just be easier on them to let them make their own decisions (but still guide them
in the right path).
Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
In the play Romeo and Juliet, the parents expect hatred between both families. Growing up, the

Global Movements Of Western Culture
Make an argument that show how Scheld s case and the two other cases you select are examples of
the ways in which global movements of commodities, capital and Western culture are modified by
local cultural systems.
Since the advent of modernisation and the rise of globalisation around the world, issues regarding
the cultural homogenisation of the world have arisen. Anthropologists have raised concern about
the spread of capitalism as the dominant form of market exchange, the commodification process and
the prominence of Western media in contributing the erasure of cultural difference in many areas
around the world (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Many first world leaders during the Cold War
believed that emerging nations would become prosperous only if they became capitalist nation
states (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). A neo colonialist form of political intervention emerged, as
more developed countries believed that it was their duty to teach developing nation states about
capitalism, so they can achieve economic success and independence (Schultz and Lavenda 2005,
360). As thus, there is a threat of cultural homogenisation, whereby the dominant cultures of the
core, such as America, impose their beliefs, values and cultural products to developing nations,
thereby replacing cultural differences with that of the dominant culture (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14).
Despite the seemingly homogenising process of commodification and capitalism, social

My research project is based on the Liquid Crystal Display or (The LCD). The developer of the
LCD was a group of engineers, led by George Heilmeier a engineer himself. They started to
develop this in between 1964 and 1968. When his group thought they had finished, they later
found out they were wrong. George and his group had used Dynamic scattering method which
had worked poorly. Later a man named James Ferguson came along and replaced it with and
improved version. He had used twisted nematic field effect fro the LCD. It was released for sale

One of the sensors that a LCD has is the backlight sensor. This increases productivity, life by
stabilizing the brightness, after the system starts up and automatically. It also connects ambient

monitor. This works because of the electromagnetic interference caused by your hand. This happens
when you move your hand near or close to the screen.
In addition the LCD computer monitor is in fact soldered. One of the components that is
soldered is the capacitors. Another thing that is soldered is some of the copper wires. There are
nine compartments inside an LCD monitor. It has two polarized filters one on top and one on
the bottom. In the center of these two filter is were the LC remains. On top and bellow the LC is
two other films, then on top of that there is a transformed electrode. Then on the bottom of the
lower filter is the back light/mirror. Then to finish it off there is either a red, blue or green film,
which can be adjusted to a certain brightness. On the back of all of this is where the wires are
connected to the battery and supply voltage. In conclusion Liquid Crystal Display is now a million

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Parametric Approach
Parametric approach assumes that portfolio return follows a known distribution, such as normal
distribution, lognormal distribution, and etc. Standard deviation (SD) is taken as the dispersion
parameter which takes into account all observations. Any large value will affect the value of
volatility in essence SD.
The most common model employed in practice is delta normal distribution which utilizes both the
expected return and standard deviation of returns in which case, VaR can be calculated by using
SD(Пѓ):
VAR(О±%)= Ој+ПѓГ—z_О±
Limitations of parametric approach include: The need to assume a known distribution. For delta
normal method, it assumes the normality of the distribution of returns. However, most assets
exhibit skewed return distributions, and fat tails. With fat tails, the ... Show more content on

4.3 Monte Carlo Simulation Approach
Monte Carlo simulation approach is the most powerful and flexible approach which involves
assuming a particular distribution specified by the user, using computer software to draw random
samples from the distribution and generating an enormous amount of outcomes. The selected
outcomes will naturally form a distribution, which will approximate the normal distribution. VaR is
calculated in the same way as with the delta normal approach by using the expected mean, and
volatility generated by Monte Carlo approach (Kaplan, Inc., 2014).
Disadvantages of Monte Carlo simulation approach include: It is subject to the professional
knowledge and skills of the user who will input the initial distribution. This model will base on the
subjective opinions of the user. As a result, it is impossible to construct a perfect

J.J. Abrams film Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a modern heroic journey archetype. An
archetype is a universal pattern that can be applied to stories across cultures and historical periods.
In this heroic journey archetype, the main character Rey goes through various stages of her journey
that greatly contribute to her final transformation into a hero. The stages that contribute most to her
transformation are: departure, road of trials, and return and reintegration. In the departure stage,
the hero is typically called to adventure. The call usually comes from a herald of some sort

things about how people become heroes and what it takes to reach that destination. For one, the
film implies that destiny plays a huge role in heroism. BB 8 stumbled upon Rey as though it
were destiny, and Rey had a vision entailing her calling as well as the ability to use the force. The
heroic journey also implies that becoming a hero takes a lot of hard work and determination to
reach that destination. You must also make sacrifices and focus on your goal. In the film, Rey
had to go through multiple tests of strength and endurance, but she was determined and remained
focused on what she was trying to achieve. Rey also sacrificed her home planet Jakku to help
fight off the evil and restore the peace. Finally, the heroic journey implies the importance of

In Herman Melville s Billy Budd, Sailor, readers are introduced to the conflict of good and evil
between Billy Budd and Claggart. However, there is another conflict, which, in ways is more
significant than the epic clash of good and evil. Vere s struggle between duty and conscience is
more significant because it occurs in the mind. Whereas Billy Budd was clearly the noble sacrificed
hero and Claggart was the vindictive villain, duty is just as noble as conscience and conscience is
just as noble as duty. Melville sets up this conflict by placinga man with the intuition and innocence

Captain Vere s expressions are described as a moon. The use of moon, signifies, nature and in

This shows that the face is not unnatural. It is still the purity and brightness of the moon but just
another side of the moon. Captain Vere s conflict between conscience and duty can be seen in
Melville s imagery. The side that first disappeared during the eclipse was Captain Vere s paternal
feelings towards Billy. The side that reappeared after the eclipse is Vere fulfilling his duty as

describing this other aspect of Captain Vere suggests that the sense of duty felt by Vere is not a
foreign feeling. In fact, it is just a side of Vere that comes out when needed. Vere regains his
composure as captain and is able to order the surgeon in. The surgeon confirms Vere s fears and

The Veldt By Ray Bradbury. How Are Children Better Than...
Today, some children have had a tendency to favor materialistic items over respect for parents;
however, Ray Bradbury, the author of The Veldt disagrees with this concept. Bradbury believes that
when children are too involved in items, they become brainwashed and it has a negative effect on
society. Mr. and Mrs. Hadley (the parents) from The Veldt , struggle to discipline their kids, which
results in the children not having a priority to respect them. Through using allusions, setting, and
technology, the author warn children that materialistic items should not be valued higher than
respect for their parents.
Ray Bradbury uses technology to show that the children rely more on the technology and
materialistic items, then they do of their parents. The nursery in The Veldt possesses things that
purr and recede into crystalline distance and ...this house which clothed and fed and rocked them
to sleep and played and sang and was good to them. (Bradbury 1). Through the description of the
nursery, it provides the reader with a sense of the nursery being high tech, expensive and more
dependable than the parents should be. This shows that the Hadley family does not lack money
so whatever they need, it is always right there. Bradbury also states, Peter looked at his shoes. He
never looked at his father any more, nor his mother and Would I have to tie my own shoes instead
of letting the shoe tier do it? (Bradbury 9). In these quotes, it shows that by now the children have

The Relationship Between The Mind And Body That I Find...
In this paper, I will examine a particular model of the relationship between the mind and body
that I find especially attractive: Margaret Cavendish s Panpsychism. In my discussion of
Cavendish s Panpsychism, I will contrast it with two other models namely, Descartes s Substance
Dualism and Hobbes s Materialism to accentuate particular nuances of the model. Next, I will
provide reasoning for why I find Cavendish s Panpsychism so attractive. After, I will consider the
strongest argument I believe one could make against my specific support of Cavendish s
Panpsychism; an objection known as the Combination Problem. Finally, I will provide a rebuttal to
this objection; one that will render my argument in favor of Cavendish s Panpsychism even
stronger. Margaret Cavendish s Panpsychism is similar, yet dissimilar, to Panpsychism, as it is
generically defined. The generic definition of Panpsychism is the following: the doctrine that mind
is a fundamental feature of the world which exists throughout the universe (Seager). Because
Panpsychism fails to provide both a detailed explanation of the nature of the mind and an
explanation for how the mind and body interact, it can not be considered a substantive model of
the relationship between the mind and body (Skrbina). However, Cavendish succeeds in rendering
Panpsychism a substantive model (from here on the word model will be an abbreviation for the
phrase model of the relationship between the mind and body ). She does so

Laser Crack Measurement System for Pavement-Management Sytems
Pavement management systems (PMS) can work effectively only when they are constructed by
organically combining all activities concerned with road pavement (planning, design, construction,

Then, the most important items are the establishment of a serviceability index, which represents
pavement quality, and a prediction of performance, which is represented by the relation between
time (and/or traffic) and the index. Pavement quality consists of two primary factors: riding quality
and skid resistance. The factors influencing riding quality are pavement distress and/or roughness.

Therefore, measuring the macro texture is one of the essential components in pavement management
applications.
The requirements for acquiring these factors are the following: (1) That data acquisition cost is as
cheap as possible; (2) that data analysis can be done in a short time; and (3) that data acquisition
doesn t influence the speed of other traveling vehicles, in particular on roads with heavy traffic [2].
Pavement surface distress measurement is an essential part of a pavement management system
(PMS) for determining cost effective maintenance and rehabilitation strategies. Visual surveys
conducted by engineers in the field are still the most widely used means to inspect and evaluate
pavements, although such evaluations involve high degrees of subjectivity, hazardous exposure,
and low production rates. Consequently, automated distress identification is gaining wide
popularity among transportation agencies [6]. With the advancement of 3D sensor and information

China Between The Republic Of China
After The Chinese Civil War ended in 1950, a separation of old China between the Republic of
China (ROC, commonly known as Taiwan ) and the People s Republic of China (PRC,
commonly known as China ) created legal and political dilemmas (Hsieh, 2016). They both
declare the island of Taiwan is an integral part of their territories. Until the 1990s, Taiwan was
able to conquer her diplomatic isolation by expanding the international trade and investment
flows to all of her business partners regardless of official government recognitions (Chow, 2016).
The nation s per capita income rises from $1,869 to $46,500 in nearly four decades since 1979,
higher than that of the United Kingdom. Taiwan is the world s twentieth largest exporter, having
the relatively low underclass population (1.5 percent of the population). In 2016, her foreign
exchange reserves are estimated to reach the world s top five, at approximately 433.5 billion US
Dollar (Waldron, 2016).
However, the rapid development of China s economy and her enormous market potentiality give the
Chinese government leverages to influence Taiwan s international relationships; in fact, Taiwan s
exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau combine more than one third of her total exports, and
Beijing makes no secret of her intention to take advantage of this dependence (Subba, 2016). For

Advantages Of Big Bang Disruption
In the era where written communication was predominantly done by postal mail, email services
offered a novel method that was not just quicker but also highly convenient. The huge and
expensive mainframes were replaced by the smaller easy to use mini computers. Pocket calculators
replaced the standard calculator while offering the same computing performance and portability.
These were cases where the disruptive innovation creates a new market and value network that
dislocates the existing market and dislodges the earlier technology.
Big Bang Disruption (BBD) is a disruptive technological innovation that enters the market with a

The company combined the physical landlord model (with the subscription) and all you can eat
model to allow customers to rent all the DVDs they could in a month for a flat upfront fee.
Customers were allowed to keep the DVDs for an unlimited period of time and were not subject to
the late fees. In return, customers agreed to pay a monthly subscription fee that was recurring in
nature.
Blockbuster versus Netflix: While both Blockbuster and Netflix bought movie licenses from
studios, the key area of difference is the approach towards the target audience. Namely:
While for Blockbuster, the customers had to come to the store and rent the DVDs, in the case of
Netflix, the customer orders the DVD from the convenience of their homes, which would be
delivered by US Post
Blockbuster levied a late charge for the DVDs returned post the rental period, which was one of
their major sources of revenue. Netflix on the other hand imposed no such late fees, which,
although an immense liability, was also an important reason for their immediate popularity
The only seemingly downside of Netflix was the waiting period for the users to receive the

Obituary Assignment
When the class was told that we would have an obituary assignment, I thought it would be really
interesting to do because when do you ever think to write your own obituary? I understand that
writing the obituary would make it more surreal, that one day our life will come to an end. I
remember you telling the class to try to put a picture of ourselves on our obituary to make us
believe it really happened, so that s what I did. I can say that after this assignment, it did make me
think more about how I live my life and what things I should change.
When I was writing the obituary, I struggling where I wanted my services to be held at because I
never gave it any thought to where I wanted to be buried. I just thought my family would decide that

The Welfare System Of The United States
In The United States there is the aid that we refer to as the Welfare system. There is usually a
very bad stigma behind the name welfare system but during the 1930 s The Great Depression
affected roughly sixty percent of families who were barely living and it was not because of bad
choices. (Jensen, C., 2014). During The Great Depressionthe welfaresystem was a useful tool the
many modifications to the structure over the years has not changed the focus of the systems main
focal points.
The Welfare system can be divided into two different classes these would be social and economic
classes. The social aspect includes any plan brought forth to help poverty level members of the
community and asset in there need with financial support. Then there is economic support it is a
class because it is there to aid the society that can sustain themselves and their children due to
circumstance such as adversities, untrained labor ability, and disabilities. In so many situations the
older public and the single this includes the divorced parents may also qualify for assistance. To be
given benefits, most programs require that there be verification of needs that has been evaluated
and set at a basic state to state standard. This is because welfare misuse in the past has made it
more difficult and threatened the reliability of the system. A frequent thing that is used is what is
called the means test, which estimates income and compares individuals to the set standard of
living. When a

Are Children Inherently Fascist Essay
Are Kids Inherently Fascist?
In the article Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas author Elissa Strauss
argues that children are inherently drawn to television shows that portray underlying fascist themes
that ultimately uphold a mostly white, patriarchal dominant system. Strauss uses two television
shows in particular to argue her case, Paw Patrol and Thomas the Tank Engine where the former
follows search and rescue dogs who go out on missions to protect their community while the latter
is a television series following anthropomorphised locomotives who go on adventures. Overall,
Elissa Strauss article Why kids love fascist cartoons like Paw Patrol and Thomas starts out with a
thought provoking argument using mostly ethos and pathos, while including some logos, about
why parents should be worried their kids are being exposed to fascist themes, but her argument
dwindles after she relies heavily on anecdotal evidence, with little of her own commentary, about
the effect these television shows have on society and their systemic institutions. ... Show more

According to Strauss, parents look for a world in which identities are both mutable and equal, and
imagination and empathy reign supreme, while children are drawn to worlds in which identities
are fixed, order trumps imagination and transgressions are met with routine punishment. Here we
can see Strauss using pathos to evoke a battle between good and evil, using positive, idealist
descriptions to describe the wants of the parents in comparison to the cold, mechanical descriptions
to describe the wants of the children. This is the point in the article where Strauss introduces her
two targets, one which can easily be identified as cold and mechanical, while the other takes some

Liam O Flaherty s The Sniper
In short stories, many people may overlook how greatly an author described the setting. It is
important that a well thought out framework is included in a piece of literature. The Sniper by
Liam O Flaherty, gives a fair setting of Dublin, Ireland at the break of the night. On a rooftop,
across the large city street, the sniper unknowingly faced his brother. They re inevitably against one
another, both now torn apart by civil war. The night they clashed was what the author seemingly
described the most. Setting for this story creates conflict because the sniper had extreme difficulty
seeing his brother in the darkness. The narrator had said, The long June twilight faded into night.
Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of

Computers have become much more important and popular to our society in recent decades. The
computer s ability to perform so many tasks speedily and reliably makes it useful for a wide
variety of purposes. Therefore much important information is stored on computers. Because people
and organisations depend on computers every day for a variety of significant tasks, it is imperative
that the systems which are used are protected from loss, damage and misuse. This essay identifies
some potential risks to computersystems and software and the safeguards that can be taken to
minimise these risks. A computer security risk is defined as any event or action that could cause a

Users often select weak passwords. The two major sources of weaknesses in passwords are easily
guessed passwords based on knowledge of the user (e.g. wife s maiden name) and passwords that
are susceptible to dictionary attacks (i.e. brute force guessing of passwords using a dictionary as
the source of guesses).
Another type of method to gain unauthorised access is the exploitation of known security
weaknesses. Two types of security weaknesses exist: configuration errors and security bugs.
Configuration errors occur when a system is set up in such a way that unwanted exposure is
allowed. Then, according to the configuration, the system is at risk from even legitimate actions.
An example of this would be if a system exports a file system to the world (makes the contents of a
file system available to all other systems on the network). Then any other machine can have full
access to that file system.
Security bugs occur when unexpected actions are allowed on the system due to a loophole in
some application program. An example would be sending a very long string of keystrokes to a
screen locking program, thus causing the program to crash and leaving the system inaccessible.
A third method of gaining unauthorised access is networks spoofing. In network spoofing a system
presents itself to the network as though it were a different system. Network spoofing occurs in the

Does Harper Lee Present The Prejudicial Issues In To Kill...
Harper Lee s To kill a Mockingbird explores the prejudicial issues which plague over the town
Maycomb. Harper Lee uses the trial of Tom Robinson a black man accused of rape on a young
white girl, Mayella as a central theme to portray the prominence of racial discrimination in
Maycomb. The racial prejudice is also widely shown through the characterisation of Atticus. Having
Scout as the narrator allows Harper Lee to highlight the gender inequity through a youthful
unbiased perspective. The chauvinistic attitudes and prejudiced views of most of the town s folk
leaves Maycombs social hierarchy in an unfair order, victimising many of the town s people due to
their socially non conforming habits some socially unaccepted people including Boo... Show more

Harper Lee demonstrates the gender inequity In to Kill a Mockingbird through the description and
words of the female narrator, Scout. The prejudice of Maycomb is shown so clearly, even an
innocent child like Scout can see the raging extent of gender prejudice that surrounds her. Scout
having traits that are more masculine in quality automatically makes her an outcast and disliked
by Maycomb s many conforming ideals. Scouts innocence allows the novel to develop through
an unbiased perspective. Women had little to serve in juries and there was the constant
expectation all women had to act and dress like a Lady. Aunt Alexandra an evident example of
having strong beliefs on how separate genders should behave, constantly scolding Scout for
wearing her overalls and behaving too tomboyish. I was not so sure, but Jem told me i was being
a girl, that girls always imagined things, thats why other people hated them so, and if i started
behaving like one i could just go off and п¬Ѓnd some to play with. (4.119) Scout is raised to
believe boys were better than girls, raised in a bigoted and heavily bias community, scout п¬Ѓnds it
a difficult and unfair experience trying to understand the unjust perceptions of the adults around
her. Having Scout narrate the whole novel allows Harper lee to highlight the gender inequity in
Maycomb.

rigid behaviours and socially discriminating codes.

Stepping Up, Speaking Up And Taking Responsibility Essay
Stepping up, speaking up and taking responsibility...... Now that we are all doing more as
momentum builds, it s a good time to remind ourselves about ways to take on more
responsibility, speak up, step up and share our thoughts. Sticking to our comfort zone can
sometimes lead to a lack of personal and professional growth but if we become more proactive,
enthusiastic and willing to tackle difficult conversations, the outcome can take us from an
ordinary wallflower to a dynamic contributor! Here are 5 good reasons why we all need to speak
up (even when we think we shouldn t) 1.Silence is deemed approval You might think that staying
silent keeps you from being involved in conflict but silence is as much an active form of
communication as talking. You might feel shy or that you are being judged or you might even feel
that other people are dominating the conversation but everyone here has a valuable contribution to
make. Your opinions and ideas do matter and we want to hear them. 2.Make the greater good the
priority By sharing information, offering opinions and suggestions, you may open up the lines of
communication between team members, making them aware of certain situations and perhaps even
help to resolve a problem. 3.Show that you are invested If someone invites you into a conversation,
show your commitment to the process and people involved by being active and vocal (using tact
and empathy of course). Speaking up is an important form of honesty which builds trust.

  • 2. Should Police Use Deadly Force Research Paper Should police be able to use deadly force? Deadly force is used by an officer, to defend themselves from life threatening assault against other people. Police must protect themselves and others as a citizen they serve. It may not happen as much as we think, but in certain incidents, there are times it is used (Williams, 1999). My opinion about deadly forceis there is a right time to use it and a wrong way. The right way to me is when policeenter a situation in gunfire being exchanged between an officer and a person the officer is then at risk of losing his life and to protect anyone around and the officer, then deadly force must then take place. Basically, as soon a person was to open fire on an officer I believe the officer would then have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if he is not tied in with others, still may go and commit dangerous crimes and put everyone at danger. When using deadly force, we save an officers life and stopped a criminal from hurting others (Williams, 1996). My opinion in using deadly force the wrong way is when an officer is chasing someone and they shoot them point blank. I do not agree with that as the person is running to get away from the problem, as there are other things that could be done such as tazered the person to get them to fall down a resist. I just feel you must know how to act accordingly with each different situation to protect yourself and the other around, because when you go to court to convict the defendant to charge them you must have done the right thing and evidence of it to back it up. The police deal with people every day, who seem to kill. When officers are forced to use deadly force, they become scared. The police avoid deadly force at all cost. When they do fire they first shoot into the air, missing the target on purpose. This happens so the person will hopefully become scared and will put the weapon down (Williams, 1999). Police must be quick and alert when dealing with a deadly force situation. The police must do and choose the right choices when dealing with a situation, because if they do anything unethical can receive jail time or even get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Unjust American Freedom The Unjust Freedom The way the Americans gained independence may not be as valiant as it seems. The war lacked just war criteria despite many arguments. The idea was foolish and unnecessary and proved the lack of development amongst this young territory. Many factors lead to this premature uprising and the French and Indian War is a great reason for most of those factors. The decision by the American colonists to revolt against British rule was premature and overly aggressive. The American plea for a Revolution did not meet the criteria of a just war. The factors for a just war are as follows: probability of success, last resort, proportionate cause, comparative justice, competent authority, just cause, and right intention (Keown American ). For a war to be just, the war must meet all of the criteria for a just war. Though it s hard to name a war that met all of the just war criteria, it is just as hard, if not harder to name a war that was justified. At the time, the probability of success would be against the colonists. The British had the best navy in the world at the time and were a global powerhouse (Keown American ). The fight was not a Кєlast resortКє because independence had been gained from Britain without raising arms (Keown КєAmericanКє). The colonists lacked proportionate cause because the colonists already had financial issues and needed foreign mercenary aid to help finance the fight (Keown КєAmericanКє). Well, if your startup has what it takes then anything is possible. Let s look at one successful startup funding process: Facebook. Idea stage The idea stage with Facebook is a little murky. Seed and expansion capital The networking site starts growing rapidly, amassing users in campuses across the US. By the start of 2005, the site has nearly a million users in Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and Yale. The company now embarks on a series of investment rounds that bring it closer to an IPO and a series of buyout attempts from rival companies. First, the company needed more seed money to continue scaling the business it wanted to move beyond the university campuses. So, there is a Series A round in 2005. Accel Partners, a venture capital firm, led the investment round with the total funds raised hitting $12,7 million. The valuation of the company hits $87,5 million. The investment round featured angel investors Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman as well, who recalled the investment decision in a Forbes article by stating, I remember talking to Accel after [an event at Stanford]. The key reason they invested was because they talked to Stanford students and found out that they use Facebook for two hours a day. Series B followed shortly in April 2006.

  • 7. Analysis Of The Middle Passage Passage Stolen from Africa, brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. I have sung along to this Bob Marley lyrics for years without recognizing how much power and truth his words represent (Bob Marley, 2017). Slaves were treated like animals and owners had no disregard for their lives, working them from birth to death. Not all slaves believed that their fate was set in stone, those brave few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African slaves were subjected to was immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were examined by surgeons, branded and held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships were nicknamed floating tombs because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic Slave Trade). These boats were cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept nude to try and embarrass them and they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition, food portions were very sparse and infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade). Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a step ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. One way in which the slaves tried to resist was by refusing to eat and drink in an effort to starve themselves. The slave traders had a tool called the Speculum Oris that was used to hold the slaves mouths open (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Sydney Harbour Research Paper During the period of over two hundred years of white settlement in Australia, Sydneysiders have occasionally been warned of the possibility of an invasion. It was in late may and early June in 1942, during the world war II, that Sydney harbour actually experienced an invasion or attack from three Japanese Midget submarines. On the night of 29th may 1942, five Japanese substantial submarines positioned themselves 56 kilometers north east of the entrance of Sydney harbour. At 2.47am the following day one of the submarines I 29 launched a E14Y Glen float plane crewed by pilot Susumu Ito. He flew an audacious, reconnaissance mission over the harbor with only aid of his navigation light on the plane, (dimmer than the usual aircraft lights). Susumu Ito circled the cruiser of USS Chicago and HMAS Canberra twice and confirming the target before flying off to the east. However while flying east he was spotted by an anti aircraft battery The Sparrows at middle head, but lucky it misinterpreted for an American Curtis Falcon float plane, luckily no alarm was raised. The plane crashed into the ocean when coming back. • 9. The Synoptic Gospels In The Gospel Of Mark Throughout the centuries, from the time of the Augustine, it has not been uncommon for the Gospel of Mark to be viewed in a negative light when compared to the other Synoptic Gospels. It has been said that Luke and Matthew were written in an attempt to cover Mark s deficiencies. At first glance, this is an understandable viewpoint. To the modern layreader, Mark does seem to flow less evenly and convey less information than its contemporaries. Therefore, among many, Mark was respected for being the first Gospelwritten and for the precious information it conveyed, but certainly not for its literary elements. This changed in 1982 when Rhoads and Michie released the first edition Mark as Story, which is an analysis of Mark as a work of literature. This, as Mark Allan Powell stated in the afterward, was a new and unexpected way of looking at the Gospels that pioneered a wave of literary analysis in relation to Scripture. Mark as Story is an interdisciplinary approach that views the work through the lens of a story told using ancient oral tradition and analyzes its characters, plot, setting, narrator and original audience. When these aspects are viewed in this manner, it reveals that the Gospel of Markis, in fact, a literary masterpiece. The authors of the book begin their exploration of Mark as literature by explaining their reasons for doing so. Mark, the first of the Synoptic Gospels, made the decision to convey his beliefs to his audience through the medium of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this experiment we will be measuring the rate of decomposition of hydrogen dioxide with the following reaction: 2 H202 (aq) 4 2 H20 (l) + 02 (g) We can trap the oxygengas created into a container thus showing the extent of the reaction and this will show the rate in which oxygen is created and how the rate will change when we use different initial concentrations. • 12. A Brief Note On Sweden And Finland And Sweden Most developed countries have suffered through at least one financial crisis. The term financial crisis is in itself very broad and applies to a various number of situations in which financial institutions or financial assets rapidly decrease in value. In the late 1980 s and early 1990 s, the Scandinavian countries along with Finland all faced rather serious financial crises, but the outcomes differed vastly among the nations as Denmark and Swedenpushed through to fairly satisfactory results, but Norway and Finland suffered greater complications. No nation s crisis was identical to another s and perhaps thereof the different outcomes, but what other factors played a role in deciding a nation s fate. To better compare and analyze, the focus of this paper will be placed on simply two of the nations involved Sweden and Finland , two nations bordering each other, with a great many similarities but two very different outcomes from respective crisis and how they handled their respective issues, and what can be used for future reference. American economist Richard G. Anderson (2009) has previously touched briefly on some of the similarities among the Scandinavian nations crises, specifically referring to a common two stage sequence in each of the countries. The two stage sequence, as Anderson explains, included rapidly increasing economic growth accompanied by financial liberalization along with the introduction of new financial instruments, followed by sharp ... • 14. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bananas deforestation and unhealthy soil cause erosion, and the runoff causes frequent flooding and damage from sedimentation. In a 1997 study done off the coast of Costa Rica, it was discovered that 60 percent of the coral reefs in Cahuita National Park had been severely damaged due to runoff from coastal bananaplantations (Cohen, 2009). Furthermore, bananas are grown as a mono culture, where all the bananas on a plantation are genetically identical. Although this makes crops easy to manage, these bananas face an increased risk of being wiped out by a single type of pest, fungi or disease, and will all be severely attacked if the pests develop resistance to pesticides. In order to prevent this from happening even more chemicals are used. It is estimated that 30 kilograms of pesticides are used per hectare per year on a banana plantation, whereas only 2.7 kilograms are used for the average European cereal crop (Cohen, 2009). The banana field workers (also called bananeros ), often untrained, and marginalized workers, lack sufficient precautionary instructions or protective equipments. According to Ivan Clavijos, an ex conventional banana producer, despite wearing masks, goggles, and gloves, chemical gases can still get absorbed in the workers clothes, and through sweats will enter the body, blood, and liver via pores on the skin, producing ammonia in the blood, or can result in loss of sight, hearing, or sterility, which he himself and many people he knows who work in banana ... He is best remembered for his collection Irish Melodies in which he set words to traditional Irish folk tunes; these songs include The Minstrel Boy , Dear Harp of My Country and The Last Rose of Summer . He also wrote a large number of comical and satirical poems, of which the poem Enigma is one. Enigma takes the form of a riddle and it opens: Come, riddle me ree, come, riddle me ree, And tell me what my name may be. In the poem the United Kingdom s national debt, the unstated answer to the riddle, is likened to the monster of Frankenstein . And it is not just in this simile that the poem has connections with Frankenstein : throughout the poem the description and actions of the Enigma bear a marked similarity with those of the creature in Shelley s novel. In the first stanza, the Enigma is described as a corpulent giant who stalk[s] hungry and bloated around . This compares with Walton s description at the end of the novel, where he finds the creature gigantic in stature, yet uncouth and distorted in its proportions . Comparing Parkinson´s Disease And Huntington s Disease Two Diseases, One Hope: Fetal Neural Transplantation in the Treatment of Parkinson s and Huntington s Disease Parkinson s Disease (PD) and Huntington s Disease (HD) are neurodegenerative diseases that are caused by malfunctions within the motor sector of the nervous system. These malfunctions, which are caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of neural cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral patterns that are subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the common thread between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising between cellular connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone, dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of dopamine is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various muscular activities controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16). In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication assemblage is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced by the brain. At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either because of genetic factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells are unable to form synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a neural circuit within the basal ganglia (18). HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions by causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9). Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do with both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In reference to the House of leaves, it is obvious that the tension of madness is neither observable nor openly stated; a phenomenon that reveals that madness is not easily detectable. This is what triggers Gothic plots to have a positive development as they mainly focus on revealing the why and what of the occurrence of an event. It is evident that wider experiences, techniques, psychological knowledge as well as craftsmanship have tremendously advanced such that the earlier Gothic work seems artificial and naГЇve (Lovecraft, 2013). As Crawford (2014) reveals, the theme of madness runs through most Gothic narratives and is usually enunciated by the characters where they often question their own sanity or that of their fellow characters. Madness in Gothic is not simply a fictional aspect of genres. The theme also incorporates social implications most notably when viewed in the perspective of Victorian England. Gothic madness references in relation to literature ascended in the context of a society that is not only fascinated but also repelled by madness (Punter, 2012). This is evident in Dracula by Bram Stoker where attempts of containing madness has proven to have a reverse effect of concealing the periphery that separates mad people from normal ones. • 23. Why Entrepreneurs Form Business Entities Essay There are two reasons entrepreneurs form business entities: to protect personal assets and to reduce taxes, limited liability companies (LLCs) do both. Since their widespread application in the 1990 s, LLCs have become the most popular U.S. entity formation (Garcia Gallont Kilpinen, 2015). As is the case of corporations, limited liability provides a mythical corporate veil (p. 411) that protects the members personal assets from creditors (Albert, 2015). One remedy creditors and other stakeholders may use in response to this protection is to ask a judge to pierce the corporate veil, which essentially disregards the entity and makes the shareholders personally responsible for the debt (Vandervoort, 2004). The doctrine of piercing the corporate veil, which is a term coined by Maurice Wormser, is a potent, albeit limited, exception to the general rule of corporate limited liability (Fenton, 2013, p.1). Although piercing the corporate veil is said to be the most litigated issue in corporate law, its application to the unincorporated LLC is still widely challenged (Garcia Gallont Kilpinen, 2015). This problem is also exacerbated by the fact that LLCs are legislated by the state in which they are formed, which creates inconsistencies in the outcomes of veil piercing cases. With every state now having LLC legislation (Albert, 2015), business owners are carefully selecting which state to form in, based on the perceived preservation of limited liability. These ... • 26. Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation compared to the surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for this anomaly was due to the Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower Bakken shale into the upper Three Forks. Current assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is a tight and fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The Pronghorn is believed to only partially inhibit primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor performance across Painted Woods. The lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This thinning greatly reduces the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected from core (Figure 19), the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and lower Bakken shales. The lack of permeability is supported by lithological analysis indicating a clay content of up to 50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods asset. The low permeability and high clay content shows that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude primary migration of hydrocarbons from the lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However, this only has a minimal effect on the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole. Saturation trends in the Pronghorn and the upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower Bakken into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn to the base indicating less hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil saturation never reach 0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil saturation then gradually increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone. This trend is observed throughout all the wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of the Pronghorn. Global Movements Of Western Culture Make an argument that show how Scheld s case and the two other cases you select are examples of the ways in which global movements of commodities, capital and Western culture are modified by local cultural systems. Since the advent of modernisation and the rise of globalisation around the world, issues regarding the cultural homogenisation of the world have arisen. Anthropologists have raised concern about the spread of capitalism as the dominant form of market exchange, the commodification process and the prominence of Western media in contributing the erasure of cultural difference in many areas around the world (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Many first world leaders during the Cold War believed that emerging nations would become prosperous only if they became capitalist nation states (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). A neo colonialist form of political intervention emerged, as more developed countries believed that it was their duty to teach developing nation states about capitalism, so they can achieve economic success and independence (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). As thus, there is a threat of cultural homogenisation, whereby the dominant cultures of the core, such as America, impose their beliefs, values and cultural products to developing nations, thereby replacing cultural differences with that of the dominant culture (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). The most common model employed in practice is delta normal distribution which utilizes both the expected return and standard deviation of returns in which case, VaR can be calculated by using SD(Пѓ): VAR(О±%)= Ој+ПѓГ—z_О± Limitations of parametric approach include: The need to assume a known distribution. For delta normal method, it assumes the normality of the distribution of returns. However, most assets exhibit skewed return distributions, and fat tails. With fat tails, the ... The selected outcomes will naturally form a distribution, which will approximate the normal distribution. VaR is calculated in the same way as with the delta normal approach by using the expected mean, and volatility generated by Monte Carlo approach (Kaplan, Inc., 2014). Disadvantages of Monte Carlo simulation approach include: It is subject to the professional knowledge and skills of the user who will input the initial distribution. • 34. A Study on Colombia Colombia Columbia emergence as a nation is after Spanish occupation of the country s coastal lands back in 1499. The Spanish occupation of the region lasted for 300 years influencing developments in culture, politics and religion. In a bid to establish control over the region, Spanish colonization destroyed the social structure that pre existed their occupation leading to exploitation of the riches within the country. Importation of slaves into the region resulted from the need to replenish the weakening labor force provided by the Indian population owing to disease, intense slavery labor and starvation. Slaves were brought in from Africa for purposes of mining silver and gold along the pacific coast. An archetype is a universal pattern that can be applied to stories across cultures and historical periods. In this heroic journey archetype, the main character Rey goes through various stages of her journey that greatly contribute to her final transformation into a hero. The stages that contribute most to her transformation are: departure, road of trials, and return and reintegration. In the departure stage, the hero is typically called to adventure. The call usually comes from a herald of some sort carrying the message that ultimately causes the adventure to begin. The use of the heroic journey in this film implies many things about how people become heroes and what it takes to reach that destination. For one, the film implies that destiny plays a huge role in heroism. BB 8 stumbled upon Rey as though it were destiny, and Rey had a vision entailing her calling as well as the ability to use the force. The heroic journey also implies that becoming a hero takes a lot of hard work and determination to reach that destination. You must also make sacrifices and focus on your goal. In the film, Rey had to go through multiple tests of strength and endurance, but she was determined and remained focused on what she was trying to achieve. Rey also sacrificed her home planet Jakku to help fight off the evil and restore the peace. Finally, the heroic journey implies the importance of believing in yourself. In the beginning, Rey lacked confidence and was afraid; however, she conquered her fears and believed in herself in the end. • 36. Billy Budd In Herman Melville s Billy Budd, Sailor, readers are introduced to the conflict of good and evil between Billy Budd and Claggart. However, there is another conflict, which, in ways is more significant than the epic clash of good and evil. Vere s struggle between duty and conscience is more significant because it occurs in the mind. Whereas Billy Budd was clearly the noble sacrificed hero and Claggart was the vindictive villain, duty is just as noble as conscience and conscience is just as noble as duty. Melville sets up this conflict by placinga man with the intuition and innocence of a child, in the hands of a captainamidst war. Captain Vere s expressions are described as a moon. The use of moon, signifies, nature and in that sense innocence. The use of moon also shows that Captain Vere s emotions are pure and bright against the black, night sky. His new face is described as being a quite another aspect . This shows that the face is not unnatural. It is still the purity and brightness of the moon but just another side of the moon. Captain Vere s conflict between conscience and duty can be seen in Melville s imagery. The side that first disappeared during the eclipse was Captain Vere s paternal feelings towards Billy. The side that reappeared after the eclipse is Vere fulfilling his duty as captain. Both sides of Vere are just as strong and just as right. Also the use of hiding in describing this other aspect of Captain Vere suggests that the sense of duty felt by Vere is not a foreign feeling. In fact, it is just a side of Vere that comes out when needed. Vere regains his composure as captain and is able to order the surgeon in. The surgeon confirms Vere s fears and with one hand to his brow, was standing motionless (351). His concerns show even without a description of Vere s features. • 37. The Veldt By Ray Bradbury. How Are Children Better Than... Today, some children have had a tendency to favor materialistic items over respect for parents; however, Ray Bradbury, the author of The Veldt disagrees with this concept. Bradbury believes that when children are too involved in items, they become brainwashed and it has a negative effect on society. Mr. and Mrs. Hadley (the parents) from The Veldt , struggle to discipline their kids, which results in the children not having a priority to respect them. Through using allusions, setting, and technology, the author warn children that materialistic items should not be valued higher than respect for their parents. Ray Bradbury uses technology to show that the children rely more on the technology and materialistic items, then they do of their parents. The nursery in The Veldt possesses things that purr and recede into crystalline distance and ...this house which clothed and fed and rocked them to sleep and played and sang and was good to them. (Bradbury 1). Through the description of the nursery, it provides the reader with a sense of the nursery being high tech, expensive and more dependable than the parents should be. This shows that the Hadley family does not lack money so whatever they need, it is always right there. Bradbury also states, Peter looked at his shoes. • 38. The Relationship Between The Mind And Body That I Find... In this paper, I will examine a particular model of the relationship between the mind and body that I find especially attractive: Margaret Cavendish s Panpsychism. In my discussion of Cavendish s Panpsychism, I will contrast it with two other models namely, Descartes s Substance Dualism and Hobbes s Materialism to accentuate particular nuances of the model. Next, I will provide reasoning for why I find Cavendish s Panpsychism so attractive. After, I will consider the strongest argument I believe one could make against my specific support of Cavendish s Panpsychism; an objection known as the Combination Problem. Finally, I will provide a rebuttal to this objection; one that will render my argument in favor of Cavendish s Panpsychism even stronger. Margaret Cavendish s Panpsychism is similar, yet dissimilar, to Panpsychism, as it is generically defined. The generic definition of Panpsychism is the following: the doctrine that mind is a fundamental feature of the world which exists throughout the universe (Seager). Because Panpsychism fails to provide both a detailed explanation of the nature of the mind and an explanation for how the mind and body interact, it can not be considered a substantive model of the relationship between the mind and body (Skrbina). However, Cavendish succeeds in rendering Panpsychism a substantive model (from here on the word model will be an abbreviation for the phrase model of the relationship between the mind and body ). Laser Crack Measurement System for Pavement-Management Sytems Pavement management systems (PMS) can work effectively only when they are constructed by organically combining all activities concerned with road pavement (planning, design, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, evaluation, economic analysis, and research) and the data bank [1]. Then, the most important items are the establishment of a serviceability index, which represents pavement quality, and a prediction of performance, which is represented by the relation between time (and/or traffic) and the index. Pavement quality consists of two primary factors: riding quality and skid resistance. The factors influencing riding quality are pavement distress and/or roughness. Pavement surface distress measurement is an essential part of a pavement management system (PMS) for determining cost effective maintenance and rehabilitation strategies. Visual surveys conducted by engineers in the field are still the most widely used means to inspect and evaluate pavements, although such evaluations involve high degrees of subjectivity, hazardous exposure, and low production rates. They both declare the island of Taiwan is an integral part of their territories. Until the 1990s, Taiwan was able to conquer her diplomatic isolation by expanding the international trade and investment flows to all of her business partners regardless of official government recognitions (Chow, 2016). However, the rapid development of China s economy and her enormous market potentiality give the Chinese government leverages to influence Taiwan s international relationships; in fact, Taiwan s exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau combine more than one third of her total exports, and Beijing makes no secret of her intention to take advantage of this dependence (Subba, 2016). Another type of method to gain unauthorised access is the exploitation of known security weaknesses. Two types of security weaknesses exist: configuration errors and security bugs. Configuration errors occur when a system is set up in such a way that unwanted exposure is allowed. Then, according to the configuration, the system is at risk from even legitimate actions. An example of this would be if a system exports a file system to the world (makes the contents of a file system available to all other systems on the network). Then any other machine can have full access to that file system. Security bugs occur when unexpected actions are allowed on the system due to a loophole in some application program. A third method of gaining unauthorised access is networks spoofing. In network spoofing a system presents itself to the network as though it were a different system. Scouts innocence allows the novel to develop through an unbiased perspective. Women had little to serve in juries and there was the constant expectation all women had to act and dress like a Lady. Aunt Alexandra an evident example of having strong beliefs on how separate genders should behave, constantly scolding Scout for wearing her overalls and behaving too tomboyish. I was not so sure, but Jem told me i was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, thats why other people hated them so, and if i started behaving like one i could just go off and п¬Ѓnd some to play with. (4.119) Scout is raised to believe boys were better than girls, raised in a bigoted and heavily bias community, scout п¬Ѓnds it a difп¬Ѓcult and unfair experience trying to understand the unjust perceptions of the adults around her. Having Scout narrate the whole novel allows Harper lee to highlight the gender inequity in Maycomb. Harper lee demonstrates the social inequity through Boo characterisation and Maycombs peoples rigid behaviours and socially discriminating codes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
