Star Life Cycle
The life cycle of star is on an eternal cycle of birth, death and regeneration where the gases that
form stars are ejected by the very stars when they die. This all starts with the helium gas and
fusion of hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and
low mass stars. Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram
about 1910 that shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types.
Stellar Nebula A nebula contains dust and gas where gravity causes these to group together. Before
the star is formed, the protostar will need to attain hydrostatic equilibrium by balancing the gravity

They are very bright since they have large diameters, but with low surface temperatures compared
to the Sun. When the helium in the core is completely used the core collapses again.
Planetary Nebula Planetary nebula are formed in the outer core of the star that are vanished when
the star of the Sun s mass changes from a red giant to white dwarf. At this stage all the energy from
the star fades away losing layers and forms a complex structure. White Dwarf White dwarf is
very small with diameter as the Earth and mass similar to the Sun formed when the core of red
giant collapsed. The maximum mass a white dwarf can have is about 1.4 solar masses which is
known as Chandrasekhar limit. A single star can be one mass at the start of life and still evolve
into a white dwarf being 0.6 mass compressed into approximately the volume of the Earth. Even
though it is hot, it is not as bright compared to its temperature of more than 8000В° C. However,
they cool down and fade over billions of years.

Genghis Khan As A Hero
Almost everyone in the world has heard the name Genghis Khan, but how they view his legacy
varies greatly depending on what part of the world they live in. In Europe and the Americas the
name Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much
of Asia he is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of
some debate. Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact
that a boy named Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire
continent.
Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat
(Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of
his birth was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. Temujin was
named after a Tartar chief whom his father had recently slain in a raid (Hartog 13). At the age of
9, Temujin was sent to live with his mother s tribe where where he would choose his future bride.
Upon his return from delivering his son, Yesugei died and Temujin was sent back to his family,
but the tribal leaders denied him his father s position as a tribal leader due to his young age. The
tribe shunned and abandoned Temujin and his family and they were forced to survive on their own.
During their time on their own Temujin and his family survived by hunting and fishing. It was
during this time that the future leader of the

Women s Influence On The Enlightenment Movement Essay
Though women made up a significant part of an artist s workshop crew, there is little
documentation or representation of women as the artists or artisans in the writings and illustrations
from The EncyclopГ©die, which represents one of France s greatest contributions and influences
on The Enlightenment movement. Though a majority of the illustrative plates of the
EncyclopГ©die do not include any people, as the plates are mostly diagrams about anatomy,
scientific concepts, machines, instruments and tools, those that do have people at work portray
them as almost exclusively men, with women playing subservient roles when they are pictured.
Furthermore, in discussing women from a scientific viewpoint, various contributing authors
describe women as the lesser half of men, never given the respect of being considered an individual,
with her roles as mother, sister, wife culminating in her definition and limitation. Women were
prized for their beauty, modesty, complaisance, cleverness, fertility, impressive ancestors, and lots
of land. (citation needed) Unable to train officially as an apprentice, women were rarely granted the
protections of Guilds, As found in the article Enlightenment Salons: The Convergence of Female
and Philosophic Ambitions , Dena Goodman writes how women of the upper classes embraced and
expanded the educational opportunities that were provided to them, providing and employing
resources such as those that created the EncyclopГ©die. A new, socially

L3 Acquisition Proposal
Honours Project Proposal (revised)

Student no.: 11089726
Title: Presence of L2 accent in L3 Acquisition
1. Introduction:
Second language acquisition (L2) has been often regarded as an important stage for language
learning after acquired the first language. However, it is evident that Third Language Acquisition
(L3) has become increasingly important and it is a new and hot topic for many scholars due to
the multilingual culture in nowadays society. Over the past few decades, many scholars have
investigated that L3 acquisition is more specific as L3 learners have already had an L2 in mind
which they acquired certain linguistic knowledge. Gut (2009) mentioned that the learners could
apply the previous language learning experience onto the learning process of a new language.
Thus, L3 learners are more competitive as they became bilingual speaker after the acquisition of
two languages and they are able to draw more linguistic competence and cognitive skills and
perform better than monolingual speaker. In addition, Lipinska (2015) stated that L3 pronunciation
research is still an undeveloped topic to be investigated and more research are required to
elaborate the reason behind the effect of L1 and L2 imposed on L3 production. ... Show more

Moving Right Mover
Moving can be a difficult process, not only are you dealing with emotions but you are also dealing
with the timely process of packing up your goods and moving them, across town, across states or
across country.
Hiring a moving company can help lighten your load on moving day. However, it is important to
hire the right moving company. Many moving companies do not have the experience to make sure
your items will arrive safely, so how do you select the right mover in the Tulsa area?
Selecting a Mover in Tulsa

Ask the moving company if they have a check list that they use and ask for a copy yourself. It is
important that everything that goes into the truck is noted on paper and that you get a copy.
Moving What kind of vehicle does the moving company use? You want to know that the truck is
large enough to carry your valuables and that it is clean and safe. You don t want your couch being
squashed into a little truck that is full of dirt and debris.
Ask how long the move will take estimated on the size of your current space and if they charge
by the hour or a flat fee? Charging by the hour can be dangerous especially if the movers decide to
take several breaks during the move.
Cost Cheaper isn t always better. After you have asked questions about how the move will go
ahead, ask for a price quote. You can then compare what each company offers with the services they
offer during the move.
Reviews Before choosing a moving company, ask friends, family and coworkers for any
feedback on local moving companies. You can also go online and search for individual
companies, online is a great place to find ratings and opinions on each mover. If there is no

Abolishment
Abolishment of the death penalty in America Every year, many prisoners on death row have to
choose their last meal before they face death. It is a very serious decision for inmates to make
because it is the last thing they got to savor and enjoy since they are moments away from
execution. Prisoners on death row, pay with their lives for the crimes they have committed.
Instead of granting life sentences to prisoners, federal courts punish prisoners by executing them.
It is a long and difficult decision for states to make, but based on the unjust manner cases are
presented regarding prisoners of color, there is a large number of innocent prisoners put to death
row. This form of punishment is cruel and unusual. It is cruel because it is a barbaric punishment
that has no place in the 21st century. It is also unusual since America is the only 1st world nation
that still uses the death penalty. The death penalty is also given to racial minorities the most. The
issue of racial bias is greatly present in capital punishmentcases. The issue of putting someone with
a mental disability on death row is always a possibility. Although, the Supreme Court has ruled
executions of the mentally ill illegal, there stands a chance that the execution will end up
happening. Considering all the possibilities of racial injustice and mental health stigma, the death
penalty should not be used as form of punishment in the U.S
In the Criminal Justice System, the death penalty does not respect the

Media Content Effects on Society
Introduction Initially, media were mainly used for educational and informative purposes.
However as time went by, this boundary was getting blurred, since today media are also used as
an entertainment. One of the most influential events in history of media is probably the invention
of television. Thereafter, in less than one decade, from 1946 to 1955, TV was a part of home to
65% of Americans. Singaporean novelist, Jess C. Scott, said People are sheep. TV is the shepherd.

In 1991 Runnymede Trust Report introduced a concept islamophobia and defined it as an
unfriendly attitude towards Muslims, and hence the fear and hatred of all or majority of Muslims
(Islamophobia Research Documentation Project). An apparent example might be Russia Today s
(RT) report about Californian veteran who arranged an explosion of Detroit s largest mosque,
while there were more than 500 people inside. In Detroit, he stopped in a bar for a drink and told
about his intensions to bar employee, who followed him, wrote down his car plate number, and told
the local police about it. Fortunately, authorities found his car with different kinds of explosives
right outside the Islamic Center. As RT reporter mentioned, The mainstream media has completely
ignored this story. But now imagine, if the same thing would happened, but the perpetrator was a
muslim man. His mug shot would be on every TV screen, every hour. Economics Advertisement is
probably one of the best ways to manipulate costumer to buy something or do something. There are
numerous ways of manipulating media consumers minds. People always watch TV, listen to radio,

selling products, especially when commercials are scheduled efficiently. For example, young
children usually watch TV in the morning, while their parents watch it in the evening time. It

Government Control Is Power Essay
Control is Power How far can government control go? This question has been debated for
centuries, and even now it is not an easy question to answer. Society and technology are in a
constant state of upgrades and evolution from what it once was. With these new advancements in
technology, new dangers are also present. The question then asked is, how far should the
governmentgo in protecting us? How far can government control of its people go? 1984 and
Divergent show ways in how the government can control people. It also shows how it can become
invasive and can create a dystopia. The main three ways the governments gain control in each story
are social hierarchy, constant monitoring, and brainwashing. These three ways show how a
government can gain too much control while using the excuse... Show more content on

This happens two ways in both of the stories. In 1984 people are directly brainwashed. Their
subjugated citizens are programmed not only to accept if Big Brother says that 2 + 2 = 5, but
also to believe it. ( Fitzpatrick ). The readers can clearly see it happening to Winston when even
he acknowledges 2 + 2 = 5. The readers watch as Winston actually accepts his own brainwashing.
1984 also includes another form of brainwashing that is less direct. The masses of people are
brainwashed by thinking they are in a constant state of war. World powers become enemies and
allies interchangeably simply to keep the masses in perpetual fear, perpetual industry, and perpetual
order. ( Fitzpatrick ). In Divergent the brainwashing is also indirect and direct. In the movie the
Dauntless are literally brainwashed and taken control of through a special chip implanted in them.
Divergent also shows indirect brainwashing through its faction system. By forcing people to be in
a certain faction it also forces those people to think a certain way. This restricts people s free
thoughts and allows the government full control much like the caste systems and

The Viewpoints of Three Muslim Women on Being Oppressed
When non Muslims in the United States think of Islam the first things that comes to many their
minds are September eleventh, terrorist, the middle east, and oppression of women. Most
Americans believe that Muslim women must be oppressed because they have to wear those veils
over their heads , completely cover themselves, and their husbands are allowed to have multiple
wives. A survey last year by the Council on American Islamic Relations found that more than half of
the 1,000 U.S. respondents believe that Islamencourages the oppression of women.( al Jadda, A
veil doesn t mean oppressed,1). But are Muslim women really oppressed or do they have a
choice? In this paper I will look at the viewpoint of three Muslim women. The first one is
Sumbul Ali Karamali the author of The Muslim Next Door . The second is Aisha Stacey who is
an Australian revert to Islam that works as a writer at the Fanar Cultural Islamic Centre in Doha,
Qatar. The third is Khalida Tanvir Syed who is the author of Through White Noise , but the
source I will be referring to is a paper she wrote called Misconception About Human Rights and
Women s Rights In Islam. I will also look at the viewpoint of Azam Kamguian, who is an Iranian
writer and women s rightsactivist and my final source.

Essay Comparing Hemingway s A Very Short Story and...
Comparing Hemingway s A Very Short Story and Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise
When you first read a tragic, melodramatic love scene you feel like your heart is breaking too.
Sometimes you cry. It is only after the initial rush of feelings that you begin to feel cheated.
Usually the kind of writing that gives you the urge to be demonstrative does not stay with you as
long as something more subtle. In Scott Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise, the reader is presented
with such a love scene in the form of a play. I admit to having sobbed for a solid minute after
reading about the ill fated romance between Amory Blaine and Rosalind Connage. However, the
same subject, with different characters, told in a much more concise, ... Show more content on

One of the ways that Hemingway achieves this is that his sentences alternate between dealing with
a very small detail or specific moment and moving the story through long periods of time. In the
opening paragraph of the story, Hemingway paints the picture of one night at the hospital. He takes
time to note that there were chimney swifts in the sky. Later on we skip through his entire
experience when he returns to the war, seeing the period only in terms of the girl. Hemingway can
move through time quickly in the story without losing the thread of the narrative. There is nothing
in the story that is not essential to understanding the experience of the boy and the girl.
In the Fitzgerald novel, on the other hand, there is so much extraneous material that it can be
difficult to process. The twenty five page section that deals with the romance even changes style
several times, moving from a play to prose and back again. There is none of the tight craftsmanship
found in the Hemingway story.
Amory and Rosalind s lines are full of clich eacute;s and bright, splashy comments. The stage
directions are things like, their eyes were blinded by tears, and other dramatic indications. The
Fitzgerald tale is one of intense but fleeting impressions.
Another important distinction between the two stories

The earth s crust is made out of plate tectonics. Each plate has a defined boundary and direction it
moves. The plates in Earth s crust perform two actions; they submerge under each other or they

discovered her love for poetry through the events and griefs she experienced throughout her life
which involved race and divorce. As a young girl, Natasha Trethewey spent most of her life
living in Georgia with her mother Gwendolyn Ann Turnbough. With her parents divorced at the
age of six, Natasha rarely got to see her father Eric Trethewey who lived in New Orleans
Louisiana. Not only did she have to battle her feelings with the thoughts of her parents divorce,
but her mixed race was also a developing problem. With her mother, it was very hard for Natasha to

Similarly, Rotation is about distance and the overcoming the feeling of being small and inferior
as a part of growing up. As the girl is growing up, she looks up to her father and acknowledges
that she is just a small peck on the Earth, as to when she is grown up she looks back on this and
realizes change is good. Rotation and the poem History Lesson are similar in a way where the
character notices that change is good. History Lesson reflects on the past when there used to be
segregation of blacks and whites until Natasha brings the poem back to modern day and reminds
the reader that segregation is history because of the changes made to laws.
Incident is a very powerfully written poem as Natasha writes about the Ku Klux Klan. She explains
that this story is told every year when she is reminded of the men who were white as angels which
was the KKK marching outside going against african american lives.
The main theme of Housekeeping shows that value in objects is important to many people.
Trethewey finds that in life, from the objects that are used everyday whether if it is just a chair or
a plate we put our food on, they have a sentimental

Gaming and its Benefits
Gaming and its benefits
You are wasting our time in front of those computers, throwing away our life as we are not getting
anything back.
I would hear this every time coming from my parents as I reach for the power button of my
laptop. It seems like with the growing belief, time is something priceless , we need not to spend time
on wasteful things such as video games. But, why video games receive such an outrage from the
people in the first place? Probably because of its long history associated with violence and
addiction, video games stereotype had become a practice unconsciously accepted by people
from every culture. To this day, gamers are still placed at the bottom of the ladder being the
worthless one, receiving labels that do not describe who they are as a person, but criticizing what
they like to do. However, as our society moved forward with technology and better understands,
video games have proven to be outweighed any criticism out there with its benefits for individual
and society. (which all dated back to the purpose of its creation)
Games originally created a world in which players freely becomes what they want by working
hard enough. It is unlike any real world situation as they require no social status from you and
based purely on the brain s talent. This gives rise to a lot of people from different places around
the country. The poor class, the underrepresented people succeeded at video game received

Personal Narrative-Comanche Company
It seems to me, that a lot of people when thinking of Sustainment in the way that ADRP 4.0 lays
it out see the really big picture of it all. So I ll go back a couple years back in 2009 for a prime
example of a small company based out of a small Combat Outpost on the border of Pakistan
/Afghanistan benefitting from the support and services of Army Aviation to continue our
warfighting function. My company was Delaware Company of the 1 501st Parachute Infantry
Regiment 4 Brigade 25TH Infantry Division. If this particular outfit doesn t rings any bells other
than the rich history it does possess, I m positive the name Bowe Bergdahl will. Now Bowe was
in Comanche Company and we all basically know his story. This immediately led to our
commander walking into our living quarters and informing us we had 20 minutes to pack our

(or so we thought) was now into our 5th day. We had a Black Hawk come and drop off some
food and water for us on our 3rd day, so we were good there. On the 5th day we got into contact. I

Mass Shootings And Gun Violence In The United States
After the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school mass shooting, on June 10, 2014, President
Barack Obama stated: My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been
willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just
unbelievable damage. We re the only developed country on Earth where this happens....And it
happens once a week. And it s a one day story....The country has to do some soul searching on
this. Every day there seems to be another story in the news regarding a shooting, ranging from
small to large scale. Has something within ourselves changed that s caused the increased
violence? I fear that the situation is only going to get worse as time goes on. There has been an
increase in mass shootings over the last decade. Perhaps the increase is partly due to the popularity
of media and social media. In order to prevent the mass shootings and gunviolence in general, we
need to put stricter policies in place for background checks and weapons allowed for purchase and
ownership. Other countries around the world, with stricter gun laws, do not have mass shootings
like the United Statesdoes.
Putting stricter gun laws in place to regulate what types of guns and ammunition citizens can buy is
regulated by the Second Amendment and the National Firearms Act of 1934. The purchasing of semi
automatic weapons and automatic weapons, manufactured prior to 1986, are legal in most states
(http://www.dw.com/en/8 facts about gun control in the us/a 40816418). However, recent events
point to the government needing to regulate what types of weapons are allowed to be lawfully
owned in this country. In the last 10 years, five of the deadliest shootings have occurred in the U.S.
Dating back to 1949, of the 30 deadliest shootings, 18 have been within the last 10 years (http:/

however, semi automatic handguns are also used (http://www.politifact.come/truth o meter/article

Essay On 1970s Music
1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something
their drummer had always said going down like a lead zeppelin and of course they changed the
spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn t pronounce it leed (Stewart 82). There are many things
known about the seventies from Nixon s presidency, the Watergate scandalto all the popular music
genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common
people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of
morality among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among
everyone. Because, it s a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate
scandal. On June 17, 1972 the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into
the DNC headquarters in the Watergate office building (America s Best History). As of January 30,

Some of the many influences on the younger generation included changes in traditional markers of
adulthood, such as family and career (Kutulas). The most change came to the norms the norms
collided most with sexual and romantic options, because of this sex within the confines of marriage

there was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own

Formal Approach to Thomas Gray s Elegy (Eulogy) Written in a Country Churchyard
Thomas Gray s poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is a very structured poem with a set
number of lines per stanza, and a specific rhyme scheme throughout the entire poem. The poem
focuses on Gray s thoughts while he visits a country churchyard, and ends with an epitaph written
on one of the tombstones in the churchyard. The setting of a country churchyard automatically
gives way to a small and unknown graveyard, and those that inhabit the graveyard are not going to
be well known people in the community or in American history. Gray s form and style allow for
the reader to see the churchyard he is in, and the metaphors and symbolism he uses open ... Show

Gray uses not only the form of the poem as symbolism, but he also uses the text to evoke images
into the reader minds. Where heaves the turf in many a mould ring heap... (14). Grey s word choice
in this line evokes an image of the graveyard and the different plots around him, and the aging of
each of the graves in the graveyard. The molding of the plots gives the image of a piece of bread
that has aged and become green and black with the mold. Grey also uses metaphors to get across
the message of the poem:
Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathom d caves of ocean bear: Full many a
flower is born to blush unseen, And wastes its sweetness on the desert air.(53 56)
This stanza becomes one of the focal points of the entire elegy. It is taking the metaphor of a bright
object hidden behind a larger darker object. This metaphor shows that in life that the greatest
things in life might never be seen or experienced, because they are never noticed or are so
hidden from society so they will never become a part of society. This holds true for the greatest
things in life whether it is a flower, gem, or person. Those things will not be noticed by society
because they are so hidden in life that no one ever takes the time to stop and realize the beauty or
full potential of that object.
The point of view in the poem is form Gray s perspective as to what

Appeals to Women
Most advertisers use different appeals to create stereotypes about their audiences because people
often buy magazines which fit the stereotypes they make about themselves. For example, people
who always read Newsweek are mostly people who are at work, who are economically stable, and
who are interested in the world situation. On the other hand, the audiences of Shape are mostly
young women who are interested in reducing their weights or shaping up. In Jib Fowles essay,
Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals, he discusses the fifteen emotional appeals that are often seen in
many advertisements. To corroborate his postulations of advertisement, I focused on a specific
magazine, Cosmopolitan, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the copies of Splendor fetch audiences attention by appealing to their longing for romance
and affections. The ad of True Love also appeals to sexuality by showing a woman with a drowsy
expression in a lying down position. The second appeal I found is the need for autonomy, the
need to credit the self. The three ads about women s suits, glassware, and make up are great
examples. An ad of women s suit has five women in five different gray suits who look
competent. The catch phrase says, Let em know who you are. The other ad of glassware shows
a beautiful white woman in a white blouse with glasses. She has her blond hair put up, and she is
reading a paper. The copy on the upper left corner reads, Endless Possibilities. The third ad of
Maybelline s foundation cake also has a white woman wearing white blouse with her hair up. All
of these three ads have women who look aspired, intellectual, and independent. These ads strike
women s strong need to become the way they want, and to endorse themselves. These appeals are
effective in persuading women to buy the products by giving women illusions that they will look
sexy or independent just like the women in the ads if they buy the products.
By finding the appeals advertisers use, one can tell how the advertisers view the

Method of Doubt Essay
Method of Doubt
Descartes applied illusion argument, dreaming argument, and evil genius argument that is
called method of doubt to achieve his goals: Mind and body are two different substances, the
complete separation of the mental world and the physical world. Once, he claims that even
awake or asleep, two plus three is always five. Even evil genius fakes us, we probably think two
plus three is four but in fact it always exist as five and it is always true. Lets look at this example:
If I think that it s sunny outside, I can be wrong about sun but I cannot be wrong about my thinking
that it s sunny. So, no matter if I am being deceived or dreaming either way I am thinking, which is
certain knowledge. Even though our senses aren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t remember being born but that does not mean that I wasn t thinking at the time. During the
night we might be woken up by a loud sound, but after we wake up we might not remember a thing.
It still remains that even though we can t remember any thought before we wake, we know that
there was because we heard the noise and woke up. We still have experiences while asleep
whether they are dreams or experience of hot or cold or a smell or a sound. We know we still
experience them because they arouse us to wakefulness and therefore are experience while in
deep sleep. Therefore, it is possible that while in deep sleep we might not remember everything
we thought but we are still thinking or else we would probably never wake up. Think about how
you wake up at any time and it is obvious that some thought is involved. And the wakefulness by
loud sound or disturbance is also called reaction but not the interaction of body and mind. Mind is
conscious and non spatial and body is spatial but not conscious. While separate, these two
substances interact. The mind, which can t be doubt or divided or extended, no shape but it is to
think in the pursuit of knowledge and the body, in return, can be doubt, divided, extended, occupied
space, is a place containing brain that generates thought. Descartes asserts that the mind and body
are separable and infinite by using his method of doubt to show that he could not doubt the
existence of his mind. As long as we think,

The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson
The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case Against Anne Hutchinson is a transcription of a court trial.
The document was written in 1637 by an unnamed person, who worked for the court. It was written
to keep a record of the trial and to set a precedent for future trials. Anne Hutchinson was on trial for
holding and practicing beliefs that were considered threatening to the stability of the church and
community. Anne Hutchinson was convicted of antinomianism and was subsequently
excommunicated from the colony. After leaving MassachusettsBay, Anne went on to help found
Portsmouth, Rhode Island. After Portsmouth, Anne Hutchinson went to Long Island where she was
killed.
Anne Hutchinson was on trial when The Massachusetts Bay Colony Case against Anne Hutchinson
was written. The document reveals many things about the Puritans religious beliefs and way of
life. Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1629. By 1640, 20,000 people had migrated to
Massachusetts. The founders of the colony traveled to America because they were not in control of
the church in England. The puritans knew that they would be able to practice their religion freely in
America. They wanted to create a better England that was ruled by their religious beliefs. The
Puritans knew that this was possible in America, so, they left England. Once the puritans reached
Massachusetts Bay they created extreme laws that strictly followed their religion. The

The History Of Motown Music
Rising into the mainstream in the early 1960 s, Motown music gained popularity as it produced a
wave of African American musicians who successfully integrated their music, creating a newly
unified musical culture between White and Black Americans. Simultaneously Motown provided
musical backing for an extensive battle of cultural change in the USA; the American Civil Rights
Movement. Berry Gordy, the founder of MotownRecords produced music with the aim to sell to
anyone despite their age or colour. The revolutionary processes and features of the Motown
Machine produced socially conscious, straightforward and all rounded music and artists. This has
been one prominent influence that Motown has provided to the production of contemporary music...

Every artist had a different focus, style, look and sound. Marvin Gaye began his run at Motown
records as an in house drummer for recordings. He was then promoted by Gordy to record his

successful. It was traditional in regards to the Motown sound, with catchy lyric phrases. Hitch
hike, now hitch a hike, it s all right hitch hike Jenny (Gaye, Stevenson, Paul: 1962) However, as
Gaye s career continued to progress through Motown records, he continued to be influenced by
progressive issues which were channeled in his music. In 1971, Gaye s first concept album was
released titled What s Going On , the song featured the hit track of the same name. Both the
single and the title became highly recognized due to their reference to the 1965 Watts Riots.
Marvin Gaye explained his feelings hearing about the riots saying My stomach got real tight and
my heart started beating like crazy. I wanted to throw the radio down and burn all the...songs I d

about real life circumstances and provide a new educated generation of listeners. It created
another layer to the label s impact on the music industry. Branching away from dance hits What s
Going On was a personal reflection of a political incident experienced nationally, with large
emotional impact. Perhaps the most popular contemporary political song is P!NK s Dear Mr.
President. The song criticised the decisions of George W. Bush during his presidency. In
particular, the song targeted American involvement in the Iraq War and the lack of support for
lower and middle class Americans. The song was not released in the USA as P!NK did not wish

Harriet Tubman Legacy
Also known as the feminist before feminism, the Moses of people, and one of America s most
famous conductors, Harriet Tubman is the greatest American. She conducted the most influential
and revolutionary railroad of all times, even though there was no engine or caboose. Escaping
her own life of inborn slavery and rescuing over seventy families from the same inhumanity is
just the beginning of her fascinating legacy. Great politicians are not defined by the decisions
they make while in office, but rather by what events result from those decisions made during
their term. Wars, the creation of allies, economic standings, and social changes can be some
factors that help to classify a leader s effectiveness post term. In fact, many of the best presidents
were not identified as significant until after their deaths. In Tubman s case though, she was
recognized as great both during and after her lifetime, making her significantly greater than other
American figures (hence, she is the greatest American). Her fearless and heroic triumph consisted
of two parts. More often than not, Tubman s name is automatically associated with helping
others. This assumption is very accurate, but perhaps her original journey is overlooked. The fact
that she escaped slavery on her own is one of the parts of her journey. In 1849, she was around 30

The similarities include administering a nationwide exam given to all the students. All students are
equally evaluated based on these scores. The test is used to determine which university students are
able to attend. There are also significant differences between these exams. In America the exams are
called the SAT or the ACT. In Chinait is named Gaokao. The Gaokao test is taken very seriously.
This test is taken for multiple days. Parents rent hotel rooms nearby so their student can have a
quiet lunch and take a nap. Some Chinese students go insane for this exam. They study for the
Gaokao while hooked up to IV drips. The IV drips contain amino acids which would provide the
students with extra energy (Kristof). This would definitely never be allowed in U.S. And lastly,
merit pay is different in China than U.S. The Chinese believe in merit pay and in using student test
scores for teacher evaluation. For example, when the 9th graders leave middle school they are
tested to see which high school they are qualified to attend. Since the same teachers have had those
students for three years, they compare their entry score to their exit score. The classes that showed
the most academic gain resulted in that banzhuren receiving a bonus that might range from 3000

is not the case in America. Teachers are evaluated through principals attending the classroom setting

Persuasive Essay On Quit Smoking
A person who determines to quit smoking has only a six percent chance of success. The majority
of people will either return to their smoking habit, pick up another form of tobacco use such as
chewing tobacco, or use something such as a nicotine infused water vapor pen to give into their
nicotine addiction. To completely give up tobaccouse is a hard, but very important task to
accomplish, I know this first hand. I was an on/off smoker since I was sixteen years old. I was
more of a social smoker, I could go without a cigarette all day and never even think about it. I just
liked the habit of smoking. If I could go back, I would have never started. I found out I was
pregnant in May of 2016, and have not picked up a cigarette since. My husband John also decided
to quit smoking after we found out we were having a baby. John smoked his last cigarette in
September of 2016. John did not abruptly stop smoking like I did, he used nicotinereplacement
therapy to overcome his habit. John was a pack a day smoker, so it was much harder for him to
quit than me. There are still days where temptation tries to make us give in, but we stay strong. We
both quit for our health and our baby s health and it was the best thing we ever did. Quitting
smoking, whether by abruptly quitting or by nicotine replacement therapy, is difficult but important.
Quitting smoking abruptly is also referred to as quitting cold turkey. This form of smoking
cessation involves no tapering off of nicotine, just

The Cost Of Gas Prices
Oil is one of the most valued products in the world which means oil can be very inelastic. It is
something that people need in order for them to keep their cars going and for many other
reasons in this world. When the cost of gas drops down, the usual consumer s response is
positive, however, that might not be the case for some producers in the market. The lower cost
of gas means that people will be able to save money which is exactly what any consumers would
want in the market. Specific consumers who benefit the most from cheap oil are working and
middle class people who spend an unbalanced amount of their money on gas to fill up their cars
and to heat their homes. As a result of cheap oil, the amount of money that people will save can
now go to expenses like buying a new car, purchasing new electronics, traveling elsewhere, or
even as small as going out to a nice dinner (p.34). All these results will cause a hotel boom, a
restaurant boom, and labor shortages that will increase wages (p.36). However, with the
positive side of cheap gas comes the negative side as well. The effect of cheap gas on producers
is not the same as the effect that it has on consumers in the market. The decrease in oil prices are
pressuring gas producers responsible for the domestic energy boom. Also, when prices of barrel
drops significantly, the activity in the shale basins is not very profitable which means drilling of
oil has to come to a stop (p.35). This will cause an unemployment of people who

The Themes Of Friendship And War In A Separate Peace
The themes in stories are very crucial when it comes to understanding the truth behind a book or
story. In A Separate Peace the two themes that stand out the most are friendship and war, but not
the kind of war you would think. Not one shot was fired, nor was anyone killed but rather the war
on their hearts and minds. I chose these two themes because they go hand in hand in a way. Most
people have that one friend that they loveto death, but they can sometimes become jealous or
annoyed of that friend and want to punch them in the face. This represents friendshipand war at the
same time. Throughout this essay I will provide examples of Finny and Gene s friendship as well

The friendship between Gene and Phineas is probably the most important theme throughout the
novel. The boys friendship at the beginning of the story is strong, but as the story goes on and
Gene s jealousy towards Finny grows their friendship becomes weaker and weaker. They have
always loved friendly competition, but when Finny starts to gain popularity and beat records,
their competitiveness becomes not so friendly. Gene feels that their friendship is not equal and
that Finny is better than him which causes complications. Once Finny breaks his leg he is no

After Finny breaks his leg he tells Gene, Listen, pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play

this must have been my purpose from the first: to become a part of Phineas (Knowles 43).

Bhutan s Gross National Happiness
Bhutan s gross national happiness
If you don t know about Bhutan s government and their focus over the past forty years than you
should, you and people in your community might want to take a closer look at this small country
and how it is impacting the world. Bhutan is a small country located in the himalayas between
China and India and is one of the happiest countries in the world because the government has
focused on following the four pillars of happiness. Each pillar supports and helps to provide the
right environment for happiness, these pillars are compatible living conditions, religion,
maintaining the environment, and reliable government support. Bhutan s government has decided to
take this radical approach, helping its citizens by trying to improve the nation s gross national
happiness. Bhutan has stayed relatively poor in wealth but rich in culture and happiness.
Only recently has Bhutan started building cities and roads but the country is careful not to jump
into an industrial revolution like many countries already have. Bhutan has been careful to slowly
bring western culture and technology into their country hoping to preserve their culture and

Augustus Of The Roman Empire
Julius Cesar, the Dictator of the Roman Empire adopted his grandnephew, also known as Octavian
in his will. After Cesar was assassinated Augustus wanted nothing more than to claim his
inheritance and to avenge his slain father (Cole Symes). This vengeance left constant warfare that
came to an end after the victory at Actium. At this point in time Rome was no longer a republic.
Augustusruled for four years as an independent citizen then accepted his title as emperor. Augustus
was the first roman emperor and led Rome s transformation from republic to empire. Augustus
never claimed the title as emperor for himself, but rather tried to lead the country as best as he
could, while still leaving limited power to the people. Augustus... Show more content on

Augustus also reformed the religious systems in Rome that had been previously destroyed by
constant warfare. Augustus thought that such a reform of the old religion, and a renewed trust in
the traditional gods would help restore the confidence of the people(Wasson, 2016). Augustus also
revived the priesthoods in Rome and ended up being appointed as the Pontifex Maximus(Fife,
2012). This newly acquired position left Augustus as the ruler of the Roman Empire secularly and
religiously. Now that Augustus had two highly influential roles he had unprecedented power and
control over two separate spheres. This high amount of power could have been easily abused, but
it was not. Augustus revived the Ludi Secularse which was a religious celebration that occurred
once every one hundred and ten years. Augustus was involved in the revived secular games which
had been omitted because of the disturbances of the civil war(McDermott). Augustus also guided
the construction of an Imperial Cult. This Imperial Cult was made for worship of the Emperor as
a god. Some may say this is egotistical since he himself is the Emperor, but he was made the
Pontifex Maximus, and was a true savior to Rome. Augustus also aided in the construction of a
multitude of the city s ancient temples,

Utopia Vision Statement
When I first began college, I knew that I wanted to major in civil engineering; However,
knowing that my major would take up all of my units after finishing the general education
classes, I knew that I could not afford to take any extra classes, to explore and expand my own
curiosity and knowledge of what is available. Instead, I decided to invest my academic career
focusing on engineering. As freshman students began college, many students asked themselves
that oh so common and over beaten life question what is the point of college?, while others
wondered if it was it a place to explore and discover more about one s self. Well now, thanks to
Kwame Anthony Appiah, who teaches philosophy at N.Y.U. and wrote an article What Is the
Point of College?, he explains two visions which are Utility U. and Utopia U. as well as the
habits students possess at the start of college. As students first enter the college world they go
through what is known as, Utility and/or Utopia vision; However, one vision would be stronger
than the other. A Utility vision is when you want to know if you are getting a profitable return in
an investment, while the same students are also act out the role of a consumer. Utility U. possess
certain requirements that need to be filled and will pay for expenses in exchange for quick
responses such as the desire, to be taught. Plus the fact that, Utility U. is concerned with value,
echoing the idea in the section in, Utilitarians value proposition (appiah

Northern Ireland Research Paper
The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the
late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally
ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted
during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period
of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension
two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly
Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Irelandto
remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However,
they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the
Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of
immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United
Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress.
The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the
Unionist party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts
which were to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. The Unionists also came to power because
Nationalists became apathetic

  • 2. Star Life Cycle The life cycle of star is on an eternal cycle of birth, death and regeneration where the gases that form stars are ejected by the very stars when they die. This all starts with the helium gas and fusion of hydrogen. The life cycle of a star is formed from stellar nebula to high mass stars and low mass stars. Hertzsprung and Russell classified stars on the main sequence of the H R diagram about 1910 that shows the relationship between luminosities and spectral types. Stellar Nebula A nebula contains dust and gas where gravity causes these to group together. Before the star is formed, the protostar will need to attain hydrostatic equilibrium by balancing the gravity getting atoms in and pushing heat and light out with radiation ... When the helium in the core is completely used the core collapses again. Planetary Nebula Planetary nebula are formed in the outer core of the star that are vanished when the star of the Sun s mass changes from a red giant to white dwarf. At this stage all the energy from the star fades away losing layers and forms a complex structure. White Dwarf White dwarf is very small with diameter as the Earth and mass similar to the Sun formed when the core of red giant collapsed. The maximum mass a white dwarf can have is about 1.4 solar masses which is known as Chandrasekhar limit. A single star can be one mass at the start of life and still evolve into a white dwarf being 0.6 mass compressed into approximately the volume of the Earth. Even though it is hot, it is not as bright compared to its temperature of more than 8000В° C. However, they cool down and fade over billions of years. • 3. Genghis Khan As A Hero Almost everyone in the world has heard the name Genghis Khan, but how they view his legacy varies greatly depending on what part of the world they live in. In Europe and the Americas the name Genghis Khan is synonymous with barbarism, cruelty, murder and destruction, but in much of Asia he is viewed as a hero, a unifier and a military genius. Even his date of birth is a subject of some debate. Whatever perspective you choose to take, the one thing that is undeniable, is the fact that a boy named Temujin, the son of a Mongol chieftain, would change the face of an entire continent. Genghis Khan was born sometime between 1155 and 1167 as Temujin Borjigin of the clan Kiyat (Quezzaire). His father was an important leader in the clan named Yesugei who at the time of his birth was at war with a neighboring group of nomadic tribes called the Tartars. Temujin was named after a Tartar chief whom his father had recently slain in a raid (Hartog 13). At the age of 9, Temujin was sent to live with his mother s tribe where where he would choose his future bride. Upon his return from delivering his son, Yesugei died and Temujin was sent back to his family, but the tribal leaders denied him his father s position as a tribal leader due to his young age. The tribe shunned and abandoned Temujin and his family and they were forced to survive on their own. During their time on their own Temujin and his family survived by hunting and fishing. Women s Influence On The Enlightenment Movement Essay Though women made up a significant part of an artist s workshop crew, there is little documentation or representation of women as the artists or artisans in the writings and illustrations from The EncyclopГ©die, which represents one of France s greatest contributions and influences on The Enlightenment movement. Though a majority of the illustrative plates of the EncyclopГ©die do not include any people, as the plates are mostly diagrams about anatomy, scientific concepts, machines, instruments and tools, those that do have people at work portray them as almost exclusively men, with women playing subservient roles when they are pictured. Furthermore, in discussing women from a scientific viewpoint, various contributing authors describe women as the lesser half of men, never given the respect of being considered an individual, with her roles as mother, sister, wife culminating in her definition and limitation. Women were prized for their beauty, modesty, complaisance, cleverness, fertility, impressive ancestors, and lots of land. In the opening paragraph of the story, Hemingway paints the picture of one night at the hospital. He takes time to note that there were chimney swifts in the sky. Later on we skip through his entire experience when he returns to the war, seeing the period only in terms of the girl. Hemingway can move through time quickly in the story without losing the thread of the narrative. There is nothing in the story that is not essential to understanding the experience of the boy and the girl. In the Fitzgerald novel, on the other hand, there is so much extraneous material that it can be difficult to process. The twenty five page section that deals with the romance even changes style several times, moving from a play to prose and back again. • 23. Mass Shootings And Gun Violence In The United States After the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school mass shooting, on June 10, 2014, President Barack Obama stated: My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage. We re the only developed country on Earth where this happens....And it happens once a week. And it s a one day story....The country has to do some soul searching on this. Every day there seems to be another story in the news regarding a shooting, ranging from small to large scale. Has something within ourselves changed that s caused the increased violence? I fear that the situation is only going to get worse as time goes on. There has been an increase in mass shootings over the last decade. Perhaps the increase is partly due to the popularity of media and social media. In order to prevent the mass shootings and gunviolence in general, we need to put stricter policies in place for background checks and weapons allowed for purchase and ownership. Other countries around the world, with stricter gun laws, do not have mass shootings like the United Statesdoes. Putting stricter gun laws in place to regulate what types of guns and ammunition citizens can buy is regulated by the Second Amendment and the National Firearms Act of 1934. The purchasing of semi automatic weapons and automatic weapons, manufactured prior to 1986, are legal in most states (http://www.dw.com/en/8 facts about gun control in the us/a 40816418). However, recent events point to the government needing to regulate what types of weapons are allowed to be lawfully owned in this country. In the last 10 years, five of the deadliest shootings have occurred in the U.S. Dating back to 1949, of the 30 deadliest shootings, 18 have been within the last 10 years (http:/ /www.cnn.com/2016/06/13/health/mass shootings in america in charts and graphs trnd /index.html). The use of AR 15 rifles has become increasingly popular during mass shooting events however, semi automatic handguns are also used (http://www.politifact.come/truth o meter/article /2017/nov/08/facts mass shootings united states/). Essay On 1970s Music 1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something their drummer had always said going down like a lead zeppelin and of course they changed the spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn t pronounce it leed (Stewart 82). There are many things known about the seventies from Nixon s presidency, the Watergate scandalto all the popular music genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of morality among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among everyone. Because, it s a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate scandal. On June 17, 1972 the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into the DNC headquarters in the Watergate office building (America s Best History). Formal Approach to Thomas Gray s Elegy (Eulogy) Written in a Country Churchyard Thomas Gray s poem Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is a very structured poem with a set number of lines per stanza, and a specific rhyme scheme throughout the entire poem. The poem focuses on Gray s thoughts while he visits a country churchyard, and ends with an epitaph written on one of the tombstones in the churchyard. The setting of a country churchyard automatically gives way to a small and unknown graveyard, and those that inhabit the graveyard are not going to be well known people in the community or in American history. The molding of the plots gives the image of a piece of bread that has aged and become green and black with the mold. Grey also uses metaphors to get across the message of the poem: Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathom d caves of ocean bear: Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, And wastes its sweetness on the desert air.(53 56) This stanza becomes one of the focal points of the entire elegy. It is taking the metaphor of a bright object hidden behind a larger darker object. This metaphor shows that in life that the greatest things in life might never be seen or experienced, because they are never noticed or are so hidden from society so they will never become a part of society. This holds true for the greatest things in life whether it is a flower, gem, or person. Essay Advertisement Advertisement Appeals to Women Most advertisers use different appeals to create stereotypes about their audiences because people often buy magazines which fit the stereotypes they make about themselves. For example, people who always read Newsweek are mostly people who are at work, who are economically stable, and who are interested in the world situation. On the other hand, the audiences of Shape are mostly young women who are interested in reducing their weights or shaping up. Also, the copies of Splendor fetch audiences attention by appealing to their longing for romance and affections. The ad of True Love also appeals to sexuality by showing a woman with a drowsy expression in a lying down position. The second appeal I found is the need for autonomy, the need to credit the self. The three ads about women s suits, glassware, and make up are great examples. An ad of women s suit has five women in five different gray suits who look competent. The catch phrase says, Let em know who you are. The other ad of glassware shows a beautiful white woman in a white blouse with glasses. She has her blond hair put up, and she is reading a paper. The copy on the upper left corner reads, Endless Possibilities. The third ad of Maybelline s foundation cake also has a white woman wearing white blouse with her hair up. All of these three ads have women who look aspired, intellectual, and independent. These ads strike women s strong need to become the way they want, and to endorse themselves. These appeals are effective in persuading women to buy the products by giving women illusions that they will look sexy or independent just like the women in the ads if they buy the products. I don t remember being born but that does not mean that I wasn t thinking at the time. During the night we might be woken up by a loud sound, but after we wake up we might not remember a thing. It still remains that even though we can t remember any thought before we wake, we know that there was because we heard the noise and woke up. We still have experiences while asleep whether they are dreams or experience of hot or cold or a smell or a sound. We know we still experience them because they arouse us to wakefulness and therefore are experience while in deep sleep. Therefore, it is possible that while in deep sleep we might not remember everything we thought but we are still thinking or else we would probably never wake up. Think about how you wake up at any time and it is obvious that some thought is involved. And the wakefulness by loud sound or disturbance is also called reaction but not the interaction of body and mind. Mind is conscious and non spatial and body is spatial but not conscious. While separate, these two substances interact. The mind, which can t be doubt or divided or extended, no shape but it is to think in the pursuit of knowledge and the body, in return, can be doubt, divided, extended, occupied space, is a place containing brain that generates thought. The document was written in 1637 by an unnamed person, who worked for the court. It was written to keep a record of the trial and to set a precedent for future trials. Anne Hutchinson was on trial for holding and practicing beliefs that were considered threatening to the stability of the church and community. The founders of the colony traveled to America because they were not in control of the church in England. The puritans knew that they would be able to practice their religion freely in America. She conducted the most influential and revolutionary railroad of all times, even though there was no engine or caboose. Escaping her own life of inborn slavery and rescuing over seventy families from the same inhumanity is just the beginning of her fascinating legacy. Great politicians are not defined by the decisions they make while in office, but rather by what events result from those decisions made during their term. Wars, the creation of allies, economic standings, and social changes can be some factors that help to classify a leader s effectiveness post term. In fact, many of the best presidents were not identified as significant until after their deaths. In Tubman s case though, she was recognized as great both during and after her lifetime, making her significantly greater than other American figures (hence, she is the greatest American). To completely give up tobaccouse is a hard, but very important task to accomplish, I know this first hand. I was an on/off smoker since I was sixteen years old. I was more of a social smoker, I could go without a cigarette all day and never even think about it. I just liked the habit of smoking. If I could go back, I would have never started. It is something that people need in order for them to keep their cars going and for many other reasons in this world. When the cost of gas drops down, the usual consumer s response is positive, however, that might not be the case for some producers in the market. The lower cost of gas means that people will be able to save money which is exactly what any consumers would want in the market. Specific consumers who benefit the most from cheap oil are working and middle class people who spend an unbalanced amount of their money on gas to fill up their cars and to heat their homes. As a result of cheap oil, the amount of money that people will save can now go to expenses like buying a new car, purchasing new electronics, traveling elsewhere, or even as small as going out to a nice dinner (p.34). All these results will cause a hotel boom, a restaurant boom, and labor shortages that will increase wages (p.36). However, with the positive side of cheap gas comes the negative side as well. The effect of cheap gas on producers is not the same as the effect that it has on consumers in the market. The decrease in oil prices are pressuring gas producers responsible for the domestic energy boom. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Irelandto remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage.
