Information For A Potential Employee Who May Be Seeking A Job
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to gather information for a potential employee who may be seeking
a job in HRD within Mather LifeWays.
History
Mather LifeWays (formerly known as Continuing Care Retirement Community) is a distinct not
for profit organization originally established in 1941. The founder of Mather LifeWays is
Alonzo Mather. Alonzo Mather was born on April 12, 1848 in Fairfield, New York. He started
his career by going to college at the age of 16 and straight to work in Utica, New York. After he
changed his experience, he moved to Quincy then to Chicago in 1875 to start his business. When it
was 1927 Alonzo built the Mather Towerat 75 E.Wacker Drive in Chicago. In 1941 Alonzo Mather
passed away at the age of 93, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mather LifeWays is a mid size organization which holds approximately 500 employees. They
have over 300 residents in each facility. Mary Leary is the president and CEO of Mather
LifeWays. She has been with the company for fourteen years. David Kane is the vice president of
senior living. Christopher Manella is the vice president and controller. He has twenty five years of
experience in financial management.
Current Concerns of this Organization
Current concern of Mather LifeWays is a high turnover rate. Turnover includes both employees
who quit their jobs and those who are asked to leave. Nurses in Mather LifeWays wanted more
communication and support, along with a feeling of appreciation; CNAs requested in depth
clinical skills that allow them to better care for residents. According to recent glassdoor review
of employees at Mather LifeWays, there is no growth for the employees. The organization just
wants the employees to do the job that they re told to do. Many people working at Mather
Lifeways have a fear of losing their job. Not only that, people stay a long time, so it s difficult for
new employees to move into other positions. Also, it mentioned on glassdoor review managers are
coming and going, so it leaves lower level staff responsible for managing things in the interim, and
they often have to help train new managers.
Future plans of the organization
Mather LifeWays seem to be growing. As years go by

Motivation Theories and Conflict Management Strategies
Motivation Theories and Conflict Management Strategies
Conflict Management Strategies are important tools to help solving daily particular situations and
will reduce hostility at work. The main purpose is to look at everyone s concerns and implement a
resolution that will satisfy all the members of a group or a team. It will then ultimately bring more
unity and cohesion as well as better performance and results.
Many times in the workplace, concerns may arise about a particular situation in which individuals
must come together to find a common ground. A conflict managementstrategy that can be use is
collaboration. Collaboration in the workplace is individuals cooperating with other individuals by
understanding his or her concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One technique that can be applied when dealing with a conflict is to train the leaders and team
members on how to deal with a particular conflict before they begin working together as a team.
Perhaps a few sessions on group problem solving or brainstorming on ideas on current projects may
improve group team dynamics when conflict occurs.
A strategy that can be put into practice is Avoiding. When you are not paying attention to the
conflict or do not take any action to resolve, it will give you time to cool off and think about the
more important issues to take care of.
The Accommodation strategy is a convenient tool that helps to deals with issues with individuals in
an immediate manner to satisfy any type of concerns. Leaving what is not important to the common
objective of the group is what makes this strategy useful in situations in which that individual or
collective issues distract attention to the main purpose (Swinton, 2006). Although this strategy does
not emphasize on immediate solutions to conflicts it remains as a fast tool to maintain a clear focus
on the team s objectives. However, it is not recommended to implement this theory at all times
because it doesn t concentrate on the source of the problem.
Several conflict strategies exist, but which is most effective in a work setting? After evaluation
different workplace settings, the compromise strategy seems to fit best for both parties in a conflict
at work. This way both sides agree on the

Reasons The Trials Of Witch Trials
Were people accused of witchcraft given fair trials? In my opinion, they were not. Based on the
information gathered from the three documents, many of the men and women accused of
witchcraft were doomed before the trial even took place. There are many reasons as to why the
trials were unfair before they even started. First, a big reason why the trials were so unfair was
because of the church. They could use their influence on society to decide who has jurisdiction
over certain areas, giving inquisitors legal power over areas they may not have otherwise had.
Another reason the trials were unfair is the suspected party did not really get to defend themselves,
and even if they tried to, they could be found guilty anyway. However, the biggest reason I think
the trials were unfair was because of the Malleus Maleficarum, where it mentions torture of
prisoners with the intention of getting confessions. The Papal Bull of 1484 was important because
it shows that Pope Innocent VIIInot only openly acknowledged witchcraftas a threat, but also gives
encouragement to witch hunts. Desiring with supreme ardor, as pastoral solicitude requires,
that the catholic faith in our days everywhere grow and flourish as much as possible, and that all
heretical depravity be put far from the territories of the faithful, we freely declare and a new decree
this by which our pious desire may be fulfilled, and, all errors being rooted out by our toil as with

Stock Market Crash
The stock market and its crash is argued by some historians in being a key impetus towards the
great depression. The reality of the stock market was that many lived far below the poverty line
and much of the investments which were carried out were bought on the margin . Additionally,
there had been an immense amount of unregulated speculation resulting in huge debt as the levels
of stock prices exceeded real economic growth, resulting in a continued lack of confidence and a
fragile banking system. This resulted in an enormous crash to the extent that the Bull Market was
described as dead and billions of dollars of profits were discarded. In association with the
weaknesses within the banking system, the fact that most of the rural banks were... Show more

Graubard further continues to argue that Hoover s domestic policies were limited and gave little
satisfaction towards a society surrounded by mass unemployment, huge losses of income as well as
savings. In addition to this, the increase in unemployment resulted in the government being faced
with highly increased expenditure on welfares. In 1931, it raised income tax and cut
unemployment pay by 10 per cent and introduced the means test. These measures reduced the
amount of money people had to spend and therefore in this regard the government can be argued to
have played a significant role in causing the Great Depression. As a result, Hoover is often
criticised from both sides with regards for doing too little too late, however he is also criticised for
doing too much.
Overall, it is clear that various historians have argued on different factors being the prime reasons
for the cause of the great depression, therefore the main reason for the cause of the great depression
can vary when looking at historical interpretations of the period and the opinions surrounding the
issue. Examples of key historians which differ in their interpretations towards the causes of the
great depression include Anthony Badger, Paul Johnson and Milton Friedman

Angels Are Creatures With Wings
Introduction: Angels are creatures created by Allah (swt) and they are in paradise (jannah).
Angels are creatures with wings that worship Allah (swt) only, AllaH (swt) said in the Qur an:
Praise be to Allah, the Originator of the Heavens and the Earth, the creator of angels having
wings two, three and four. (Qur an 35:1). It is not mentioned in the qur an when the Angels were
created nobody knows and Angels were created centuries ago even before human Allah (swt)
mentions this in the Qur an: Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: I will create a vicegerent on
earth. They said: Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood,
whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)? He said: I know what ye know
not. 2:30. 1st Paragraph: Angels are creatures that have no choice of their own they only take
commands by Allah (swt). There are different type of angels with different type of tasks to
accomplish some that only pray and worship Allah(swt) Those who are before him are not
scornful of worshipping Him, nor do they tire or get bored. They glorify Him night and Day:
they do not halt. (Qur an 21:19 20) and They are honoured servants, who do not precede Him in
speech, and they act according to His command. He knows what is ahead of them, and they do not
intercede, except for those whom He approves. (Qur an 21:26 27). There are some Angels that

Advertisements Are A Popular Display Of Marketing
Have you ever really looked at ads, though? I mean, if you look closely and I mean really look
closely, advertisements aren t what they appear to be, in most cases. Advertisements are a
popular display of marketing and have been for decades and will be for decades to come. For as
long as I can remember, advertisements have been a popular way of getting a message across.
Whether they are simple or colorful, they catch the eyeof someone that s reading a magazine, or a
newspaper. No matter how much you think it s just a picture, there is a deeper meaning inside of
what you re looking at. Of course, you ve never noticed it before because you were never looking
for deeper meanings inside advertisements. You may have passed by some subliminal... Show more

At the top of the advertisement, you have the words, You ll never forget your first time in big gray
letters. From the top, your eyes then go down to the middle of the advertisement and then start to
see this seductive hamburger sitting on the page. You think I m joking, but this hamburger looks
seductive. The picture of the hamburger instills every aspect of a hamburger you could possibly
want to see. You see: the meat, the tomatoes, the pickles, and the cheese slightly dripping off the
edge of the hamburger. You also see the lettuce and those delicious looking onions to top it off.
Everything about this hamburger is screaming Eat me! As your eyes move along to the bottom
of the page, you have in gray lettering again, Steak N Shake and the places they are located. The
gray lettering is what makes the dark background pop out more, it s a contrast fixture. You notice
the lettering because of the advertisement is very dark and dim to begin with, the gray pops out.
Although, those eyes of yours tend to keep gazing back at the hamburger, because it looks so
delicious. At least that s what mine kept doing when I was looking at the advertisement. This is
the most seductive looking advertisement I ve seen, for a piece of food. This is the definition of
what people consider food porn. The way it is positioned, it looks like a half naked raunchy
advertisement, except a normal raunchy advertisement would have a male or a female with the
product. They would assumingly

Does Detecting Breast Cancer with MRIs Increase the Rate...
In the last years, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become a very popular method used
for the early detection of breast cancer, because it has greater sensibility than mammography. But,
opponents of MRI are concerned about this type of examination because of the belief that it may
increase rates of mastectomy. However, different studies have been performed and no proof of this
has been recorded (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937). Although many people think that mastectomy
may increase with MRI s, I feel that these types of screenings should be more recommendable for
women at high risk for breast cancer, because cancer, if not treated on time might be fatal.
Mammography has been traditionally used for breast examination, in order to detect ... Show more

They came up with the hypothesis that MRI did not increase rates of mastectomy, and as they
expected the results showed that patients considered with early breast cancer, did not make a
difference in mastectomy rates (quoted in Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937 938).
It is only a presumption that magnetic resonance imaging use contributes to mastectomy, and some
do not support this conclusion (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 939). But as the evidence shows, there is
no proof that magnetic resonance imaging may cause an increase of mastectomy. I think the real
issue is just a matter of controversy, and conclusions seem to have been prematurely made.
In the other hand, the fact that Magnetic Resonance Imaging is not affected by breast density has
been mentioned repeatedly. Despite its sensitivity, which is greater than ninety five percent, false
positive results have been reported, which rates the accuracy of MRI between its thirty seven and
ninety seven percent. (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937). But I personally think that occult breast
cancer is a very uncommon presentation. All tests and screenings may have their failures, and
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is not an exception.
However, I want to make clear that I am not saying that mammograms should be substituted by
Magnetic Resonance Imaging for every woman, nor I am saying mammography s use should be
discontinued. But, MRI should be recommended as an additional protocol to mammography, for
women at very high risk for breast

Don Pablo Escobar Thesis
Imagine being hated and loved by so many people, running from police, killing people that got in
your way, and taking control of your hometown; that s exactly what Don Pablo or Pablo Escobar
did. He was a drug lord who, at his height of his career, smuggled more than eighty percent of the
cocaine into America. Escobar was born December 1, 1949 in Rionegro, Colombia. Although he
was born into a lower class family, he would grow to become on of the riches men in the world
during his time, according to Forbes. Young Escobar would get his start in the streets by stealing
tombstones and would take them back to his house and sandblast the names off them, once he did
that he would sell them (Minister 1). Even before this he would show how he would... Show more

He ordered the assassination of presidential candidates and was even rumored to be behind the
1985 attack on the Supreme Court, carried out by the 19th of April insurrectionist movement in
which several Supreme Court Justices were killed (Pablo Escobar Biography). This easily
shows how he is a villain because he went against the government which he is a part of. Even
though he has been against the government and lashing back at the government pretty much his
whole life but this is the biggest thing he has done to go against them. Although it isn t one
hundred percent sure that he exactly did this, it wouldn t be a surprise because he was a ruthless
person and knew that he could easily get away with this. Just like the other bombing and the
killings he has done. The bombings made him even more of a villain because he would go that
far to bomb something. He does what he has to do, but when it comes to bombing and killing
several of the Supreme Court, that might be a little too far. But it did show the power that he had
and shows how much of a villain. He can almost compare him to V from V for Vendetta. V would
go around killing people and bombing important government buildings to get his point across.
Maybe even to show his power, minus the smuggling of drugs across borders of course. But they
both wanted to show how they were villains and would both end the same way:dead. Because they

Abstract
This paper focuses on the prevention and treatment of injuries in basketball. This paper explores the
basic concepts of preventing injuries and the different methods to treat injuries that occur as a result
of playing basketball. There are a variety of preventive measures to limit injuries at recreational,
collegiate and professional levels of playing basketball. This paper will elaborate on specific
approaches to injury prevention for each circumstance. Depending on the duration and intensity of
play many contributing factors play a role in the prescribed treatment of basketball injuries. This
paper will examine the different types of treatment available and the major factors that are
considered based on case by case basis. Basketball is an enjoyable sport with the risk of minor and
major injury. This paper will give insight into those injuries and remedies to treat and prevent them.
Prevention and Treatment of Injuries in Basketball
There are various categories of injuries associated with sports. Participating in basketball involves
the use of various muscles, joints, ligaments and bones. Injuries to these areas can be mild,
moderate, serious, severe and sometimes debilitating. They can also be generally defined as acute,
traumatic or overused. There are some injuries commonly associated with basketball.

Integrated Approach For Counseling And Counseling
Integrated approach to counseling is when you combined theories to cover the clients feelings,
cognitive patterns, and behavior (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e,
2009). Each theory focuses one of these key components of a client but in counseling you need to
focus on each of these to fully help a client. The key to integrative counseling is to have multiple
theories function in harmony (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e,
2009). Psychotherapyhas four integration approaches; technical eclecticism, theoretical integration,
common factors approach, and assimilative integration. Psychotherapy integration is different than
eclectic; which is when therapist use theories because it works and uses no other reasoning when
grabbing from multiple theories (Stricker, An Introduction to Psychotherapy Integration, 2001).
Psychotherapy integration goes past the single theory approach to examine what can be learned
and combined with other theories (Stricker, Psychotherapy Integration, 2010). Technical
eclecticism is when a counselor uses their previous knowledge of a theory and experience
combined with research to use interventions on a client; this approach is thought of to be very
close to eclectic practice (Stricker, Psychotherapy Integration ). Technical eclecticism pull ideas
from theories but do not necessarily subscribe to the original positions of the theory (Corey, Theory
and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e,

Voltage Instability Problems Play Power Systems Planning...
Voltage instability problems play great role in power systems planning and operation.
Nowadays, power systems are being performed closer to their steadiness limits due to economic
and environmental constrains. Maintaining a fixed and secure operation of power system is
hence a very vital and challenging issue. Therefore, it is highly suggested to take care of voltage
stability especially in high enhanced networks as a consequence of heavier loading. Many
researchers study the power system voltage stability from different points of view. The research
progress is started with defining and identifying the voltage stability circumstances, factors,
indices and problems. Some articles are performed to improve and enhance the voltage stability
index [1] [4]. Also, many techniques are used in voltage instability detection [5 7]. The essential
factors causing voltage instability are excessive loading of transmission lines, high transmission
line losses, lack of reactive power supply, transmitting power over long distances and presence of
non linear loads. As a result, many approaches have been created to identify critical power system,
buses and lines. The largest concern to the electric utility industry is voltage stability. In this paper,
Phasor information (magnitude and phase angle) is provided by Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU)
technology [8, 9]. In this paper, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is used to detect the voltage
instability, RNN is a powerful learning algorithm. Several

Avalon Character Analysis
In Barry Levinson s 1990 film Avalon, we meet a young Russian Jewish Immigrant named Sam
Krichinsky who arrives in America on July 4th, 1914. He is mesmerized by the streaming,
bright and colorful lights of the fireworks that night as he walks through his new neighborhood
in Baltimore, an area called Avalon. Though he does not say it, you can tell by the wonder in his
eyes and sense of awe that he is a young man who has just fallen in love with America. By the end
of the film, Sam is frail and in a nursing home. His once autumn brown eyes are no longer filled
with wonder, just the thick cloudiness of old age. His right hand is tremulous, his face is marked
with brown age spots. He is very forgetful, but he can still tell the story of the night he came to
America. His forgetfulness bothers him though, and he relates to his visiting grown grandson
(his favorite) how a few years back he returned to the old neighborhood and found it virtually
gone, nothing familiar, even some of the streets he knew no longer existed. He tells his
grandson in a bewildered and still thickly accented voice, If I knew things would no longer be
here, I would have tried to remember better. He does find one spot that still exists though, a
nightclub he used to own in the 1940 s. He says to his grandson is a soft, yet weary voice, Ah,
thank God, it was there, because for a minute I thought I never was. My Dad, Bill McCarthy,
born in June of 1924, is slowly becoming Sam. He is 93. His hair is snow white and straight, but
I ask myself wasn t it at one time full of waves that I coveted? What happened? My Dad, who
was never tall is smaller now, maybe 5 4 , but his gait is still fairly quick and lively. About a
month ago I visited him at his small home in New Jersey. He has home health aides now twice a
day because he fell a few months back and fractured two ribs. Though, he would never say so, I
know he hates that they are there. They are very friendly and competent women, but I know he
resents and fears them. I don t blame him; their existence only proves that his clock is winding
down. It is hard to have a conversation with my dad now. He watches Fox News all day long, but

in the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process.
Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There
are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives;
Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the
three theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion.
Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive
or negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under
which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost
50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut
down Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot
afford to see another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health
care. If this business shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a
doctor if they think they are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc.
While these people will have no way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals
will still be able to afford going to another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle
/upper class would have less unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they
are financially and emotionally prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of
unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of
dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory
states, there will always be some disagreement.

Why Is Donald Sterling Banned From The NBA
On April 29, 2014, Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA and fined $2.5 million due to

Personal Cultural Reflection Philosophy Paper Michael Travis
i.Introduction:
ii.Exploration:
I would describe myself as someone with a deep understanding of self, someone who can
recognize and yield meaning from all of the life s experiences, both the good and the bad. Viktor
Frankl said, if there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. From
my experiences of personal and family tragedies, I know that suffering is part of life and is
unavoidable, it is as certain as death and completes our journey here on earth; however, we should
not let this suffering go to waste but let it contribute to a deeper meaning to our lives. Through this

Ultra High Temperature Ceramics (UHTC) Essay
Ultra high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) are materials rarely found in nature, characterized by
high melting points, hardness, thermal conductivities (if compared to other ceramics), good wear
resistance and mechanical strength.1,2,3 Besides, they are chemically and thermally stable under a
variety of conditions due to their high negative free energy of formation.1,3
The materials that fit in these criteria are ceramics compounds made of borides, nitrides and
carbides. As a result of having those properties, this class of material can be applied in extreme
environments such as extreme temperatures, chemical reactivity and erosive attack. Because of
that, in the 1950 s, studies started to analyze the possibility of using them to coat ... Show more

Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith
Lender Liability and the Duty of Good Faith I.Introduction From time to time, lenders and their
attorneys announce that lender liability is no longer an issue with which the lending community
needs to be concerned. What usually prompts this proclamation of the death of lender liability is
a recent case in which a court has summarily rejected a borrower s claim that the lender violated
the duty of good faith and fair dealing. Many courts have rejected borrowers lawsuits which are
based on allegations of the violation of the lender s duty of good faith. Nevertheless, lender
liability should continue to be an area of concern to lenders. Although courts often dismiss cases

Then a discussion of the objective and subjective test of good faith will take place before finally
concluding that the good faith obligation should not be imposed in debtor creditor situations to
override express terms of a contract. II.The U.C.C. A.The Good Faith Performance Obligation
and the U.C.C. The central provision of the U.C.C. s good faith requirement is found in В§ 1
203, which provides that every contract or duty within this Act imposes an obligation of good
faith in its performance or enforcement. With regard to debtor creditor relationships in particular,
this obligation of good faith performance imposes on a lender a duty to deal in good faith with its
borrower in all situations, not only in situations where, because of the circumstances of the loan,
the lender has assumed actual control over and a fiduciary responsibility for the borrower. One
troublesome but important aspect of the good faith performance obligation is its application to
contracts, which provide that one party to the contract may, in its sole discretion, take certain
actions pursuant to the contract. In such cases, the actions of the party who can exercise its
discretion may affect all parties to the contract, and dependent parties must rely on the good faith
of the party given the right to exercise its discretion. Often, the discretion exercised by the party in
control will adversely affect the dependent party. However, it does not necessarily follow that

Articles Of Confederation Issue Analysis
After the Revolutionary war, the 13 colonies needed a government and they approved The Articles
of Confederation which was the first federal government that was approved by Congress in 1777
in Philadelphia and was formally ratified and put in effect in 1781 (Keene, Cornell, O Donnell,
2013). The issues that the raised from the Articles of Confederationwas the distribution of power,
instead of giving too much power to central government like Britain, the founders decided to place
the sovereign power on the hands of the states. Also, they did not have national court system to
impose laws that were approved by government, and did not have a President.
Another problem of the government was economic disorganization, since there were no taxation,

Essay on Importance of Symbols in “the Thing in the Forest”
Brandon Doder 11/1/11 Importance of Symbols in The Thing in the Forest In many fairytales,
we are given characters who set out on an adventure to better themselves whether they know that
they are on one or not. In A.S. Byatt s The Thing in the Forest we are taken on such an adventure,
but this is more than just a children s fairytale. Through figurative language we are shown that the
main characters, Penny and Primrose, are dealing with more than just a creature in the forest, and
that with this use of symbols as a way to express a larger meaning to objects in the story, we
better understand how Penny and Primrose are dealing with being away from their family during a
time of war in England. In this story we are exposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of symbols, Byatt can make reference to problems with the girls or make a
comment on the larger picture of war at the time. The three largest symbols that appear in the
story are the mansion, the forest, and of course, the thing in the forest. Each symbol represents
something bigger in the whole scheme of things. The mansion that the girls are first sent to is a
cold and dreary place to the children. Byatt describes the mansion as cold and dark. This is
because of war time in England and they are tying to not be obvious. This dreariness only helps
the symbol of the mansion to represent what is going on at that time. The house is a
representation of the State. That being the government and everything that is part of the security
it provides. There is a sense of security in a way that the mansion is used. The government
commandeered the mansion for use as a safe house, although there still is a feeling of doubt
about it. To the girls and other children, the mansion is a place of security or home until they
move on. This is most likely not what the girls had in mind when they arrived. For them to feel
any sort of comfort in this time of tragedy, they will need to stick together and make the best of the
situation. The girls seemed to be thinking the worst of every event but at the mansion, things were
taken care of to the best of the ability of the adults there to care for them. Unlike the

Chemical Insecticides Or Utilitarianism
Chemical Insecticides or Utilitarianism
Harmful chemicals have been used throughout time to kill off insects and various plagues that
have been considered harmful to the environment. Many have questioned how helpful they
really are to our environment. Pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides have proven to be more
detrimental to humans, plants, and animals than was ever expected. The use these chemicals
has proven to be more costly than beneficial. The use of chemicals has failed to take many
ethical values into consideration. One that I will discuss today is the ethic of Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism s claim the purpose of morality is to make the world a better place (Ethics S14).
If utilitarianism was practiced more than we wouldn t have such a big problem with the use of
chemical pesticides. I will start by stating a crucial fact that has changes the life of nature as it
was once known. Since the mid 1940 s over 200 basic chemicals have been created for the use in
killing insects, weeds, rodents, and other organisms (Carson 43). The use of these chemicals have
spread quickly. One of these chemical pesticides is dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, better known
as DDT. DDT was first discovered in 1874 and used during WWII, to kill lice. After being used
during the war it began to be used in the agricultural world as an insecticide. The problem with this
was that although the agriculture industry was benefiting, it was benefitting at a cost to the
environment.

Analysis Of The Brothers K
THE BROTHERS K By David James Duncan. 645 pp. New York: Doubleday.
THE 19th century Russian novel has been born again in The Brothers K, David James Duncan s
wildly excessive, flamboyantly sentimental, tear jerking, thigh slapping homage to Dostoyevsky
and Tolstoy and the game of baseball.
For the title isn t merely a spin on The Brothers Karamazov, though Mr. Duncan makes frequent
references to that heavy tome. K, we are reminded, is also the baseball scorecard symbol for
striking out and thus, as Mr. Duncan extrapolates it, for failing, flunking, pratfalling, making a
bad situation even worse. But it can have a positive side as well. To lose your very self for the sake
of another, he adds, is . . . the only way you re ever going to save it.
The strikeout kids are the brothers Chance, four boys of the baby boom generation born to Hugh
Chance, a worldly wise and weary fastball slinging minor league pitcher, and Laura, Hugh s
staunchly conservative Seventh day Adventist wife. Kincaid, the novel s principal narrator; his
brothers, Everett, Irwin and Peter, and their twin sisters, Beatrice and Winifred, grow up in Camas,
Wash., a working class town where Hugh supplements his meager baseball salary by working at
the local paper mill.
Everyone believes that Papa Chance is destined for the big leagues until an accident at the mill
crushes the thumb on his pitching hand. Laura declares that this, like all tragedies, is God s will,
and that nothing can be done to make it better. The family settles for a life of noisy desperation
until a foulmouthed surgeon offers to repair the injured thumb with bones from Papa s toe. Thus
Hugh Chance is reborn as his team s pitching coach and stupid situation reliever, known, of course,
as Papa Toe.
For a while, the national pastime, seen on television and from rump punishing bleachers far from
the bright lights of the major leagues, becomes a complex metaphor for all that Papa Chance and
his sons hold sacred. Everett, the eldest, even goes so far as to mark the beginning of the turbulent
60 s not with the Kennedy assassination or the arrival of the Beatles but with the day Roger Maris
became the assassin of a legend, hitting 61 home runs and breaking Babe

THE MacLofferty REARRANGMENT FRAGMENTATION PROCESS
Basically the hetero atom, or functional group in a molecule facilitate the fragmentation, and it is
expressed with О± cleavage. In MacLofferty rearrangement the essential feature is the double bond,
with or without heteroatom, with a Оі hydrogen. This type of arrangement is commonly
encountered in the compounds, with C (carboxylic acid, esters, aldehydes ketones, amides, lactams,
lactones) compounds with C=N (azomethines, or shiffs base, hydrazones, oximes, semicarbazones)
compounds with S=O, (sulfonic acid esters) and compounds with C=C (alkylarene, alkylhetero

1.1Research Goal The object of the proposed research is to build an authoring system for
performance of live electronics which will simplify the compositional workflow, easy the

Notation(CWMN) to the field of algorithmic thinking as a method for creating an abstract and
cohesive representation of the underlying logic and instrumental parts for the live electronics
genre. Along with this new notation, it is necessary to develop an authoring/performance

Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole
about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However,
it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as
in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature.
The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that
CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact
[Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of
our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written
either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and
procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music,
staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created
by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully
detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role

Comparing The Mercator And The Goode s Projection
Laura Hebert argues the maps have to distort reality because it is hard to represent our sphere
planet onto a flat surface like a map. This shows it s not possible to perfectly represent the Earth
because the Earth is a three dimensional object yet, maps show the Earth on a two dimensional
surface.
List and describe some of the different types of map projections that the article describes, and what
each is meant to show the viewer.
There are four map projections in Article Two. There is the Mercator, the Peters, the Robinson,
and the Goode s Projections. First, The Mercator map changes the actual size of the land to
create a straight line between two points. It provides an efficient way for navigators to sail the
seas. Second, the Peters Projection shows a correct representation of the sizes of land mass. The
shapes of the countries are out of proportion since the top and bottom of the map is stretched
horizontally and the middle of the map is stretched vertically. Thus, attempting to replace the
Mercator map by having a more accurate way of showing how we see the Earth. Next, the
Robinson Projection shows how it achieves accuracy in shape, area, distance, and direction but, it
isn t absolutely correct in a certain category. Lastly, the Goode s Projection is similar to the
Robinson Projection since, the map maker tried to include accuracy in all four domains but, it is
not totally correct in every single domain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Dead By Charlie Higson
This summer, I read the book The Dead by Charlie Higson is a novel about a large group of kids,
left to live by themselves without guidance from their parents. In this run down setting of
London, England, people who are over the age of 16 turn into kid hunting, flesh eating zombies.
The younger kids are forced to live on their own, fighting for life against the wrath of the Adults.
The message Higson showed in his book is: after people are forced to rely on themselves without
experience, their lack of experience and knowledge will lead them to failure.
In the novel, the kids face constant fear and by telling the story from a 3rd person omniscient
point of view, Higson can really show how they are forced to only appeal their need for survival.
The adults are a mysterious entity to the kids. Since they are doing things only to live, their
actions are limited. We think there s something in us that adults need to eat in order to stay alive,
(375). They move in groups to keep support between the kids, and by doing this, their fear of
adults is slightly eased.
Connecting the fact that the kids are living in fear to that London is big, the kids are constantly
moving. The possibilities of adults attacking the kids at any point are endless. And when it had
gotten really bad, when those adults who d gotten sick but hadn t died had started to turn on the
kids, attacking them like wild animals, (8). These kids start to constantly move because of their

level strategy you think is most important to the long term success of the firm and whether or not
you judge this to be a good choice. Cedar Fair Entertainment is one of the top amusement parks
in the world. Their main office is located in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Fair owns and operates 11
amusement parks, six outdoor water parks, one indoor water park as well as five hotels (Cedar
Fair, 2013). One of the amusement parks is known by the name of Kings Dominion and it is
located in Doswell, Virginia. The Kings Dominion Park caters to young adults and has a huge
water park that is called WaterWorks. In 2012, the new CEO of Cedar Fair Entertainment... Show

I think that this plan that Cedar Fair CEO has created will work because it seems to be customer
based focus. Focused strategies are strategies that are integrated set of actions taken to produce
goods or services that serve the needs of a particular competitive segment (Hitt, Ireland,
Hoskisson, 2013, p. 118). Cedar Fair Entertainment has a balanced mix between thrill rides and
family attractions and the water park (Water Works). Water Works consist of activities for guests
of all ages, including water slides, rushing rivers, surfable waves and a 650,000 gallon wave
pool and the best thing is WaterWorks is included with the price of admission to Kings
Dominion (Kings Dominion, 2013). This is what keeps the customers keep coming back and
keeps Cedar Fair profits up. For example, Bush Gardens charge their guest a different price to go
to their water park (Water Country USA) and Bush Gardens is much more expensive that Kings
Dominion. Analyze the corporate level strategies for the corporation you chose to determine the
corporate level strategy you think is most important to the long term success of the firm and
whether or not you judge this to be a good choice. The corporate level strategy that Cedar Fair
seems to be using is the Dominate Business Diversification Strategy which means that the company
will generate between 70 and 95 percent of its total revenue within a single business area even

Legal Consciousness And The United States
In this essay, we will discuss the term of legal consciousness, and the importance of why the
concept was developed and most importantly the weaknesses and strengths of legal
consciousness in the United States. We will then look together to first define what is legal
consciousness? Legal consciousness is what people think and say about the law. It is often
referred to as social consciousness. More simply put, legal consciousness is the attitude people
with regards to the law and this may vary amongst people from different class, gender,
educational backgrounds, race, ethnicity and political views. It is the legal awareness of the
public about the law and how the law works and what is legal vs. illegal. An individual s legal
consciousness gives meaning to one s perspective of how they think about the law. Legal
consciousness changed with time and space according to legal scholars. Legal consciousness
helps us differentiate the gap between the law on he book and the law in action (Susan S. Silbey,
page 1). Ewick Silbey describe consciousness as engaging in the social movement and
predominance. (Susan S. Silbey, page 333). Ewick and Silbey describe as before, with, and
against the law, are described asa the cultural tool kit from which popular understandings of legality
are constructed (Susan S. Silbey, page 349). Ewick and Silbey say that belonging into one of the
three categories but rather shifting between the three categories over time, space and under certain

Cleaning with Barry and Britt
The act of being habitually and carefully neat and clean can make for an interesting topic in a
comparison and contrast essay. Dave Barry compares the differences of how women and men
clean in his compare and contrast essay, Batting Clean Up and Striking out. In Suzanne Britt s
compare and contrast essay, Neat People vs. Sloppy People she compares the differences of
personalities between Sloppy people and neat people. Both essays compare cleanliness in one way
or another however they both have differences regarding their use of humor, examples, and points
made in their thesis.

The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting
Clean Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain
his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a
volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning,
did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men
are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a
dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were
still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity.
On the other hand, in Britt s Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to
explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are viscous with their mail she
explains, All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money saving
coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday
cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Into the trash it goes (256). As seen in this
example, Britt uses lots of lists and possible incidents that could exist to support her points, but do

The Earth On The Turtle s Back
How was Earth created? How were people created? Why was everything made how it was? All
of these questions and many more were asked by Native Americans, and so they came up with
stories to answer these questions in a way they could understand. Some of these stories include;
The Sky Tree, The Earth on the Turtle s Back, Coyote Finishes His Work, Coyote Steals the Sun
and Moon, The Blackfeet Genesis, When Grizzlies Walked Upright, and The Navajo Origin
Legend. According to these titles, one could conclude that there were different stories explaining
the same thing, and a lot of them had to do with animals.
The first two stories that are similar in many ways is The Sky Tree and The Earthon the Turtle s
Back. Both of these stories are the explanation of how the land came around, stating that the Earth
started as water, and then something happened that made it have land. In both stories, it starts out
with the world just being full of water and takes place in skyland. In one story, the the Queen ...

All three of these stories are creation stories, and the creation of people to be exact. In the first,
people are created from clay, in the second Native Americans are created from a spirit and bear
having children, and in the third they are made from corn, eagle feathers, and wind. In the first
and second stories, it also gives explanations of how other things are made, like trees, mountains,
berries, etc.. Although, in The Blackfeet Genesis the story ends with a mother and son talking to
the Chief and they decide that death will be ultimate, no going back, until the son dies, and the
mother wants to undo the law, and have her son come back. In When Grizzlies Walked Upright,
the lost daughter of the Great Spirit, has children with a grizzly bear. When he finds out about this,
he curses bears to walk on all fours and makes their children, Indians, to walk the

Safeguarding And Protection Against Abuse
There are numerous national policies and local systems that relate to safeguarding and to protect
against abuse, Safeguarding vulnerable adults Act 2006 was set up to protect adult s right to live
in safety and free from abuse and neglect which replaced the Residential Home Act 1984 and the
Residential Home amendment act 1991. The Care Standards Act 2000 has set up new structure of
national minimum standards for services and has created a main consistency structure for social
care. This is to guarantee high standards of care and to improve the protection of vulnerable people.
The application of the act led to the creation of the independent National Care Standards

Symptom Management Theory ( Smt ) Of The University Of...
Symptom Management Theory The symptom management theory (SMT) of the University of
California, San Francisco (UCSF), was revised by its faculty and students in 2001 (Smith Liehr,
2014). According to Dodd et al. (2001), the subjective experience that suggests alterations in an
individual s functioning, sensation, and cognition is called a symptom. Dodd et al. state that their
theoryprovides a nonspecific symptom management model to guide nursing practice and research.
The SMT has three overlapping circles which contain the three domains of nursing science, also
known as concepts of metaparadigm of nursing. The three nursing science domains are the person,
the environment, and health illness. In the theory s model, the dimensions are affected by the three
nursing science domains (Dodd et al., 2001).
According to Dodd et al. (2001), there are three dimensions included in the SMT. First is symptom
experience, which includes the person s viewpoint, evaluation, and reaction to the symptom. The
second dimension is symptom management strategies, which are interventions that are intended to
postpone and reduce, if not able to totally prevent, a negative outcome from symptom experience.
The interventions that are done may be focused on resolving one or multiple components of the
person s symptoms to attain the planned outcomes. The last dimension is the symptom status
outcome, which is a result of interventions done during symptom management strategies. Multiple

The Pharos Lighthouse: Seventh Wonder of the Ancient World
The buildings of early Egypt were so impressive that two became known as wonders of the
ancient world. The first was the Great Pyramid of Giza which was built during Egypt s earliest
thriving years. Despite being considerably older, this pyramid dwarfs the seventh wonder of the
ancient world the Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria which was constructed over 2000 years later.
Built by one of the last rulers of ancient Egypt, Ptolemy I Sorter, the Pharos Lighthouse of
Alexandria sadly has been almost entirely lost, due to what is thought to have been the work of
earthquakes. Even so, the Pharos Lighthouse was estimated to be the ... Show more content on

From a poet named Poseidippos of Pella, who lived in Alexandria during the third century BC, we
learn that this statue almost certainly depicted Zeus the Savior, and he may have been
accompanied by Poseidon, the lord of the waves. However, others have suggested that the two
statues depicted the Dioscuri, who were the twin sons of Zeus and Leda and protectors of
seafarers. In fact, a gem which has recently been examined suggests that in fact the beacon on the
lighthouse may have been open and the statue, or perhaps a number of statues may not have
surmounted the building but stood on a lower level (____

Dallas In The 1960 s
In the early 1960 s Dallas was a town created by commerce and oil. At this time, Dallas had
approximately 747,000 people who were mostly white Protestants (O Reilly 227). The people of
Dallas are only concerned about two things: money and politics. People in Dallas are not only
republican, but they also refuse to trust people of different political viewpoints. With the murder
rates gradually rising, this heated town is not a substantial place for Democrats to visit.
People in Dallas were not in favor of Kennedy in the early 1960 s. It was described as a city
where K.O. the Kennedys bumper stickers are displayed. And parlor games about Which Kennedy
do you hate most? are commonplace (O Reilly 212). Men, Women, and even children of Dallas

Motivation Theories and Conflict Management Strategies Motivation Theories and Conflict Management Strategies Conflict Management Strategies are important tools to help solving daily particular situations and will reduce hostility at work. The main purpose is to look at everyone s concerns and implement a resolution that will satisfy all the members of a group or a team. It will then ultimately bring more unity and cohesion as well as better performance and results. Many times in the workplace, concerns may arise about a particular situation in which individuals must come together to find a common ground. A conflict managementstrategy that can be use is collaboration. Collaboration in the workplace is individuals cooperating with other individuals by understanding his or her concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One technique that can be applied when dealing with a conflict is to train the leaders and team members on how to deal with a particular conflict before they begin working together as a team. Perhaps a few sessions on group problem solving or brainstorming on ideas on current projects may improve group team dynamics when conflict occurs. A strategy that can be put into practice is Avoiding. When you are not paying attention to the conflict or do not take any action to resolve, it will give you time to cool off and think about the more important issues to take care of. The Accommodation strategy is a convenient tool that helps to deals with issues with individuals in an immediate manner to satisfy any type of concerns. Leaving what is not important to the common objective of the group is what makes this strategy useful in situations in which that individual or collective issues distract attention to the main purpose (Swinton, 2006). Although this strategy does not emphasize on immediate solutions to conflicts it remains as a fast tool to maintain a clear focus on the team s objectives. However, it is not recommended to implement this theory at all times because it doesn t concentrate on the source of the problem. Several conflict strategies exist, but which is most effective in a work setting? After evaluation different workplace settings, the compromise strategy seems to fit best for both parties in a conflict at work. This way both sides agree on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reasons The Trials Of Witch Trials Were people accused of witchcraft given fair trials? In my opinion, they were not. Based on the information gathered from the three documents, many of the men and women accused of witchcraft were doomed before the trial even took place. There are many reasons as to why the trials were unfair before they even started. First, a big reason why the trials were so unfair was because of the church. They could use their influence on society to decide who has jurisdiction over certain areas, giving inquisitors legal power over areas they may not have otherwise had. Another reason the trials were unfair is the suspected party did not really get to defend themselves, and even if they tried to, they could be found guilty anyway. However, the biggest reason I think the trials were unfair was because of the Malleus Maleficarum, where it mentions torture of prisoners with the intention of getting confessions. The Papal Bull of 1484 was important because it shows that Pope Innocent VIIInot only openly acknowledged witchcraftas a threat, but also gives encouragement to witch hunts. Desiring with supreme ardor, as pastoral solicitude requires, that the catholic faith in our days everywhere grow and flourish as much as possible, and that all heretical depravity be put far from the territories of the faithful, we freely declare and a new decree this by which our pious desire may be fulfilled, and, all errors being rooted out by our toil as with the hoe of a wise laborer, zeal and ... • 5. Stock Market Crash The stock market and its crash is argued by some historians in being a key impetus towards the great depression. The reality of the stock market was that many lived far below the poverty line and much of the investments which were carried out were bought on the margin . Additionally, there had been an immense amount of unregulated speculation resulting in huge debt as the levels of stock prices exceeded real economic growth, resulting in a continued lack of confidence and a fragile banking system. This resulted in an enormous crash to the extent that the Bull Market was described as dead and billions of dollars of profits were discarded. Graubard further continues to argue that Hoover s domestic policies were limited and gave little satisfaction towards a society surrounded by mass unemployment, huge losses of income as well as savings. In addition to this, the increase in unemployment resulted in the government being faced with highly increased expenditure on welfares. In 1931, it raised income tax and cut unemployment pay by 10 per cent and introduced the means test. These measures reduced the amount of money people had to spend and therefore in this regard the government can be argued to have played a significant role in causing the Great Depression. As a result, Hoover is often criticised from both sides with regards for doing too little too late, however he is also criticised for doing too much. Overall, it is clear that various historians have argued on different factors being the prime reasons for the cause of the great depression, therefore the main reason for the cause of the great depression can vary when looking at historical interpretations of the period and the opinions surrounding the issue. I mean, if you look closely and I mean really look closely, advertisements aren t what they appear to be, in most cases. Advertisements are a popular display of marketing and have been for decades and will be for decades to come. For as long as I can remember, advertisements have been a popular way of getting a message across. Whether they are simple or colorful, they catch the eyeof someone that s reading a magazine, or a newspaper. The picture of the hamburger instills every aspect of a hamburger you could possibly want to see. You see: the meat, the tomatoes, the pickles, and the cheese slightly dripping off the edge of the hamburger. You also see the lettuce and those delicious looking onions to top it off. Everything about this hamburger is screaming Eat me! As your eyes move along to the bottom of the page, you have in gray lettering again, Steak N Shake and the places they are located. The gray lettering is what makes the dark background pop out more, it s a contrast fixture. You notice the lettering because of the advertisement is very dark and dim to begin with, the gray pops out. Although, those eyes of yours tend to keep gazing back at the hamburger, because it looks so delicious. At least that s what mine kept doing when I was looking at the advertisement. This is the most seductive looking advertisement I ve seen, for a piece of food. This is the definition of what people consider food porn. • 8. Does Detecting Breast Cancer with MRIs Increase the Rate... In the last years, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become a very popular method used for the early detection of breast cancer, because it has greater sensibility than mammography. But, opponents of MRI are concerned about this type of examination because of the belief that it may increase rates of mastectomy. However, different studies have been performed and no proof of this has been recorded (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937). Although many people think that mastectomy may increase with MRI s, I feel that these types of screenings should be more recommendable for women at high risk for breast cancer, because cancer, if not treated on time might be fatal. Mammography has been traditionally used for breast examination, in order to detect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They came up with the hypothesis that MRI did not increase rates of mastectomy, and as they expected the results showed that patients considered with early breast cancer, did not make a difference in mastectomy rates (quoted in Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937 938). It is only a presumption that magnetic resonance imaging use contributes to mastectomy, and some do not support this conclusion (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 939). But as the evidence shows, there is no proof that magnetic resonance imaging may cause an increase of mastectomy. I think the real issue is just a matter of controversy, and conclusions seem to have been prematurely made. In the other hand, the fact that Magnetic Resonance Imaging is not affected by breast density has been mentioned repeatedly. Despite its sensitivity, which is greater than ninety five percent, false positive results have been reported, which rates the accuracy of MRI between its thirty seven and ninety seven percent. (Dang and Zaguiyan et al 937). But I personally think that occult breast cancer is a very uncommon presentation. All tests and screenings may have their failures, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging is not an exception. However, I want to make clear that I am not saying that mammograms should be substituted by Magnetic Resonance Imaging for every woman, nor I am saying mammography s use should be discontinued. But, MRI should be recommended as an additional protocol to mammography, for women at very high risk for breast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although he was born into a lower class family, he would grow to become on of the riches men in the world during his time, according to Forbes. He ordered the assassination of presidential candidates and was even rumored to be behind the 1985 attack on the Supreme Court, carried out by the 19th of April insurrectionist movement in which several Supreme Court Justices were killed (Pablo Escobar Biography). Even though he has been against the government and lashing back at the government pretty much his whole life but this is the biggest thing he has done to go against them. Although it isn t one hundred percent sure that he exactly did this, it wouldn t be a surprise because he was a ruthless person and knew that he could easily get away with this. Just like the other bombing and the killings he has done. The bombings made him even more of a villain because he would go that far to bomb something. He does what he has to do, but when it comes to bombing and killing several of the Supreme Court, that might be a little too far. But it did show the power that he had and shows how much of a villain. He can almost compare him to V from V for Vendetta. V would go around killing people and bombing important government buildings to get his point across. Maybe even to show his power, minus the smuggling of drugs across borders of course. • 12. Integrated Approach For Counseling And Counseling Integrated approach to counseling is when you combined theories to cover the clients feelings, cognitive patterns, and behavior (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e, 2009). Each theory focuses one of these key components of a client but in counseling you need to focus on each of these to fully help a client. The key to integrative counseling is to have multiple theories function in harmony (Corey, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Pschotherapy 8e, 2009). Psychotherapyhas four integration approaches; technical eclecticism, theoretical integration, common factors approach, and assimilative integration. Psychotherapy integration is different than eclectic; which is when therapist use theories because it works and uses no other reasoning when grabbing from multiple theories (Stricker, An Introduction to Psychotherapy Integration, 2001). Psychotherapy integration goes past the single theory approach to examine what can be learned and combined with other theories (Stricker, Psychotherapy Integration, 2010). Technical eclecticism is when a counselor uses their previous knowledge of a theory and experience combined with research to use interventions on a client; this approach is thought of to be very close to eclectic practice (Stricker, Psychotherapy Integration ). • 15. Voltage Instability Problems Play Power Systems Planning... Voltage instability problems play great role in power systems planning and operation. Nowadays, power systems are being performed closer to their steadiness limits due to economic and environmental constrains. Maintaining a fixed and secure operation of power system is hence a very vital and challenging issue. Therefore, it is highly suggested to take care of voltage stability especially in high enhanced networks as a consequence of heavier loading. Many researchers study the power system voltage stability from different points of view. The research progress is started with defining and identifying the voltage stability circumstances, factors, indices and problems. Some articles are performed to improve and enhance the voltage stability index [1] [4]. Also, many techniques are used in voltage instability detection [5 7]. The essential factors causing voltage instability are excessive loading of transmission lines, high transmission line losses, lack of reactive power supply, transmitting power over long distances and presence of non linear loads. As a result, many approaches have been created to identify critical power system, buses and lines. The largest concern to the electric utility industry is voltage stability. In this paper, Phasor information (magnitude and phase angle) is provided by Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) technology [8, 9]. In this paper, Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is used to detect the voltage instability, RNN is a powerful learning algorithm. Several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Avalon Character Analysis In Barry Levinson s 1990 film Avalon, we meet a young Russian Jewish Immigrant named Sam Krichinsky who arrives in America on July 4th, 1914. He is mesmerized by the streaming, bright and colorful lights of the fireworks that night as he walks through his new neighborhood in Baltimore, an area called Avalon. Though he does not say it, you can tell by the wonder in his eyes and sense of awe that he is a young man who has just fallen in love with America. By the end of the film, Sam is frail and in a nursing home. His once autumn brown eyes are no longer filled with wonder, just the thick cloudiness of old age. His right hand is tremulous, his face is marked with brown age spots. He is very forgetful, but he can still tell the story of the night he came to America. His forgetfulness bothers him though, and he relates to his visiting grown grandson (his favorite) how a few years back he returned to the old neighborhood and found it virtually gone, nothing familiar, even some of the streets he knew no longer existed. He tells his grandson in a bewildered and still thickly accented voice, If I knew things would no longer be here, I would have tried to remember better. He does find one spot that still exists though, a nightclub he used to own in the 1940 s. He says to his grandson is a soft, yet weary voice, Ah, thank God, it was there, because for a minute I thought I never was. My Dad, Bill McCarthy, born in June of 1924, is slowly becoming Sam. • 20. Theoretical Perspectives Of Abortion The Three Theoretical Perspectives on Abortion Abortion has been a highly debated topic for many years. Until 1973, when abortion was legalized in the U.S., women were obtaining very dangerous abortions that often killed them in the process. Although abortion is legal now, members of society still do not agree on whether it is right. There are pros and cons of abortion, which can be examined by the three theoretical perspectives; Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Postmodern Theory. This essay explains what the three theoretical perspectives are and how they view the social issue of abortion. Structural Functionalism states that everything in society serves a purpose, whether it is positive or negative. Structuralists look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the years, more people have become pro choice because of the many circumstances under which a woman might need to have an abortion. Pro Life and Pro Choice supporters are almost 50/50 in the U.S., now. Today, many government officials are in the process of trying to shut down Planned Parenthood, which is where many women, and even men, go when they cannot afford to see another physician, or just because Planned Parenthood gives exceptional health care. If this business shuts down, many lower income individuals will have no way of seeing a doctor if they think they are pregnant, need an STI screening, need to have an abortion, etc. While these people will have no way of paying for a doctor, middle and upper class individuals will still be able to afford going to another doctor for these types of issues. This means the middle /upper class would have less unwanted babies, allowing them to push off having a child until they are financially and emotionally prepared, while the lower class will have higher numbers of unwanted babies because they could not afford an abortion. It is possible that some type of dialectical model could be created that would appeal to both groups, but as the conflict theory states, there will always be some disagreement. ... Then a discussion of the objective and subjective test of good faith will take place before finally concluding that the good faith obligation should not be imposed in debtor creditor situations to override express terms of a contract. II.The U.C.C. A.The Good Faith Performance Obligation and the U.C.C. The central provision of the U.C.C. s good faith requirement is found in В§ 1 203, which provides that every contract or duty within this Act imposes an obligation of good faith in its performance or enforcement. With regard to debtor creditor relationships in particular, this obligation of good faith performance imposes on a lender a duty to deal in good faith with its borrower in all situations, not only in situations where, because of the circumstances of the loan, the lender has assumed actual control over and a fiduciary responsibility for the borrower. One troublesome but important aspect of the good faith performance obligation is its application to contracts, which provide that one party to the contract may, in its sole discretion, take certain actions pursuant to the contract. In such cases, the actions of the party who can exercise its discretion may affect all parties to the contract, and dependent parties must rely on the good faith of the party given the right to exercise its discretion. Often, the discretion exercised by the party in control will adversely affect the dependent party. However, it does not necessarily follow that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In A.S. Byatt s The Thing in the Forest we are taken on such an adventure, but this is more than just a children s fairytale. Through figurative language we are shown that the main characters, Penny and Primrose, are dealing with more than just a creature in the forest, and that with this use of symbols as a way to express a larger meaning to objects in the story, we better understand how Penny and Primrose are dealing with being away from their family during a time of war in England. The three largest symbols that appear in the story are the mansion, the forest, and of course, the thing in the forest. Each symbol represents something bigger in the whole scheme of things. The mansion that the girls are first sent to is a cold and dreary place to the children. Byatt describes the mansion as cold and dark. This is because of war time in England and they are tying to not be obvious. This dreariness only helps the symbol of the mansion to represent what is going on at that time. The house is a representation of the State. That being the government and everything that is part of the security it provides. There is a sense of security in a way that the mansion is used. The government commandeered the mansion for use as a safe house, although there still is a feeling of doubt about it. To the girls and other children, the mansion is a place of security or home until they move on. This is most likely not what the girls had in mind when they arrived. For them to feel any sort of comfort in this time of tragedy, they will need to stick together and make the best of the situation. Many have questioned how helpful they really are to our environment. Pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides have proven to be more detrimental to humans, plants, and animals than was ever expected. The use these chemicals has proven to be more costly than beneficial. The use of chemicals has failed to take many ethical values into consideration. One that I will discuss today is the ethic of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism s claim the purpose of morality is to make the world a better place (Ethics S14). If utilitarianism was practiced more than we wouldn t have such a big problem with the use of chemical pesticides. • 29. Analysis Of The Brothers K THE BROTHERS K By David James Duncan. 645 pp. New York: Doubleday. THE 19th century Russian novel has been born again in The Brothers K, David James Duncan s wildly excessive, flamboyantly sentimental, tear jerking, thigh slapping homage to Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy and the game of baseball. For the title isn t merely a spin on The Brothers Karamazov, though Mr. Duncan makes frequent references to that heavy tome. K, we are reminded, is also the baseball scorecard symbol for striking out and thus, as Mr. Duncan extrapolates it, for failing, flunking, pratfalling, making a bad situation even worse. But it can have a positive side as well. To lose your very self for the sake of another, he adds, is . . . the only way you re ever going to save it. The strikeout kids are the brothers Chance, four boys of the baby boom generation born to Hugh Chance, a worldly wise and weary fastball slinging minor league pitcher, and Laura, Hugh s staunchly conservative Seventh day Adventist wife. Kincaid, the novel s principal narrator; his brothers, Everett, Irwin and Peter, and their twin sisters, Beatrice and Winifred, grow up in Camas, Wash., a working class town where Hugh supplements his meager baseball salary by working at the local paper mill. Everyone believes that Papa Chance is destined for the big leagues until an accident at the mill crushes the thumb on his pitching hand. Laura declares that this, like all tragedies, is God s will, and that nothing can be done to make it better. The family settles for a life of noisy desperation until a foulmouthed surgeon offers to repair the injured thumb with bones from Papa s toe. Thus Hugh Chance is reborn as his team s pitching coach and stupid situation reliever, known, of course, as Papa Toe. For a while, the national pastime, seen on television and from rump punishing bleachers far from the bright lights of the major leagues, becomes a complex metaphor for all that Papa Chance and his sons hold sacred. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the introduction of any new notational mechanisms must be designed as an organic whole about the traditional interpretation of signs and symbols regarding music semiotics. However, it is important to note here, that the scope of this goal is constrained to the semantics domain, as in broad sense the re interpretation of a musical score as a logical descriptor is radical in nature. The choose of CWMN as main descriptor of music related events is justified for the fact that CWMN is still in wide sue among the composer community, Kurt Stone wrote regarding this fact [Stone, 1980]. In spite of the new notational signs generated since early 1950s, a major part of our era s music, whether serious or not, has been, still is, and probably will continue to be written either entirely by means of traditional notation or with a mixture of old and new signs and procedures. A second important aspect relates to a practical performance aspect. In Western Music, staff notation plays an active role in the pursuit of communicating a complex musical idea created by the composer during the live performance. All relevant performance information is carefully detailed in the score parts, so the score plays two roles in the communication system, a passive role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This shows it s not possible to perfectly represent the Earth because the Earth is a three dimensional object yet, maps show the Earth on a two dimensional surface. List and describe some of the different types of map projections that the article describes, and what each is meant to show the viewer. There are four map projections in Article Two. There is the Mercator, the Peters, the Robinson, and the Goode s Projections. First, The Mercator map changes the actual size of the land to create a straight line between two points. It provides an efficient way for navigators to sail the seas. Second, the Peters Projection shows a correct representation of the sizes of land mass. The shapes of the countries are out of proportion since the top and bottom of the map is stretched horizontally and the middle of the map is stretched vertically. Thus, attempting to replace the Mercator map by having a more accurate way of showing how we see the Earth. • 36. The European Union ( Eu ) And Euro It is finally sinking in that the euro is here to stay...The Eurozone is again a club with a queue not at the exit, but at the entrance (Van Rompuy, 2013). On 9 July 2013, Latvia achieved the required conditions to adopt the euro. Its exemption from participating within the single currency was abrogated with effect from 1 January 2014 (European Commission, 2014). By joining the currency which is used on a daily basis by over 330 million Europeans, it has been suggested that economies will be strengthened, their belonging to the community of European states as well as national identity (Eurozone Portal, 2014). Lastly, it will conclude with an evaluation of the decision to join the single market currency. The union originated in 1957 through its successor the European Economic Community (EEC) which at the time had six members. • 37. Analysis Of The Dead By Charlie Higson This summer, I read the book The Dead by Charlie Higson is a novel about a large group of kids, left to live by themselves without guidance from their parents. In this run down setting of London, England, people who are over the age of 16 turn into kid hunting, flesh eating zombies. The younger kids are forced to live on their own, fighting for life against the wrath of the Adults. The message Higson showed in his book is: after people are forced to rely on themselves without experience, their lack of experience and knowledge will lead them to failure. In the novel, the kids face constant fear and by telling the story from a 3rd person omniscient point of view, Higson can really show how they are forced to only appeal their need for survival. The adults are a mysterious entity to the kids. Since they are doing things only to live, their actions are limited. We think there s something in us that adults need to eat in order to stay alive, (375). They move in groups to keep support between the kids, and by doing this, their fear of adults is slightly eased. Connecting the fact that the kids are living in fear to that London is big, the kids are constantly moving. The possibilities of adults attacking the kids at any point are endless. And when it had gotten really bad, when those adults who d gotten sick but hadn t died had started to turn on the kids, attacking them like wild animals, (8). These kids start to constantly move because of their fear. This causes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cedar Fair Entertainment has a balanced mix between thrill rides and family attractions and the water park (Water Works). Water Works consist of activities for guests of all ages, including water slides, rushing rivers, surfable waves and a 650,000 gallon wave pool and the best thing is WaterWorks is included with the price of admission to Kings Dominion (Kings Dominion, 2013). This is what keeps the customers keep coming back and keeps Cedar Fair profits up. For example, Bush Gardens charge their guest a different price to go to their water park (Water Country USA) and Bush Gardens is much more expensive that Kings Dominion. The way Barry and Britt support their points in their compare and contrast essays differ. In Batting Clean Up and Striking Out, Barry uses lots of personal stories and factual happenings to explain his opinions. For example, to explain how men are worse at cleaning Barry specifically refers to a volcano eruption that happened in Pompei because the men, who were in control of the cleaning, did not notice ashes piling up around and in their houses. In addition, when describing how men are better with sports than woman he refers to a personal story; specifically a story about a dinner party that he attended where the men were glued to the World Series and the women were still chatting amongst themselves. These forms of examples are personal stories that offer validity. On the other hand, in Britt s Neat people vs. Sloppy people she uses more dreamt up incidences to explain her opinions. For example when explaining how neat people are viscous with their mail she explains, All ads, catalogs, pleas for charitable contributions, church bulletins, and money saving coupons go straight into the trash can without being opened...No sentimental salvaging of birthday cards or the last letter a dying relative ever wrote. Symptom Management Theory The symptom management theory (SMT) of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), was revised by its faculty and students in 2001 (Smith Liehr, 2014). According to Dodd et al. (2001), the subjective experience that suggests alterations in an individual s functioning, sensation, and cognition is called a symptom. Dodd et al. state that their theoryprovides a nonspecific symptom management model to guide nursing practice and research. The SMT has three overlapping circles which contain the three domains of nursing science, also known as concepts of metaparadigm of nursing. The three nursing science domains are the person, the environment, and health illness. In the theory s model, the dimensions are affected by the three nursing science domains (Dodd et al., 2001). According to Dodd et al. (2001), there are three dimensions included in the SMT. First is symptom experience, which includes the person s viewpoint, evaluation, and reaction to the symptom. The second dimension is symptom management strategies, which are interventions that are intended to postpone and reduce, if not able to totally prevent, a negative outcome from symptom experience. The interventions that are done may be focused on resolving one or multiple components of the person s symptoms to attain the planned outcomes. The last dimension is the symptom status outcome, which is a result of interventions done during symptom management strategies. Multiple aspects are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
