The Licence Fee Challenged
The Licence Fee Challenged
When the licence fee was first introduced it was seen as an appropriate way to keep the BBC free
from commercial and government interests. When the licensee was first introduced into the
wireless telegraphy act in November 1923 to cover radio sets it cost 10 shillings per year. By the
end of the year 200, 000 licences had been issued and five years later this had risen to two and a
half million licenses. During the forties a combined radio and TV licence was issued costing ВЈ2
in 1946, Combine license is continued until 1971 when all radio sets were exempted from the fee..

Many alternatives to the licence fee have been proposed, initially the BBC contemplated using a
model championed by retail giant John Lewis in which licence fee payers could become part
shareholders in the corporation. Since the freezing of the current licence fee rate until 2017, have
been forced to make BBC3 a purely online service. Director General Tony Hall warned that BBC4
could be next to go, if further cuts were made to the BBC s funding .
There have also been calls to introduce a subscription model for the BBC, which has been firmly
rejected by the corporation. The BBC warned that a subscription model could be exclusionary to
those unable to afford to pay. Their refusal to enter into a subscription based system may be
justified, as Sky, the UK s first subscription based model announced a target of 10 million homes
in 2004, the target was only reached in 2010, as subscriber numbers elsewhere in europe started to
plateau. The amount of time taken to reach this milestone should be of worry for the BBC, as if
they are unable to encourage enough people to sign on the dotted line then they may experience a
severe deficit of

Metro Plus Health Plan
Working as a Case Manager (CM) for a Medicaid based Health Insurance has brought me in
contact with patients of varied cultures, languages and races. As a CM For Metro Plus Health
Plan, my responsibility is to teach High Risk pregnant women about their diseases, encourage
them to stay in care with their Primary Care Physician/Obstetricians, explain the importance of
taking their medications as prescribed, and adhering to all their providers plan of care, with the
goal of encouraging these patient s to become responsible and active participants in their own
care. I have been able to directly observe as a clinician, how cultural competence can positively
impact not only the relationship between my patients and I, but also the level of care I am able to

There is limited healthcare services and literature that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for
culturally diverse populations. These barriers have been shown over the years to threaten how
effective care is for these populations. The healthcare system depends on nurses to facilitate
services, care plans and educate patients on various health issues. Many patients who live in these
communities have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake
assessments, reading their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional
resources for this population should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low
literacy literature for these patients. Including family members in the process will help nurses
bridge the culture and linguistic gaps in communication and care. Integrating knowledge and
respect for various cultures, their belief systems, and values will facilitate better health care
compliance and yield better

Charlotte Coppola Essay
Coppola uses Tokyo to create an isolated setting, vital to the development of the story. Despite being
the most populous city in the world, Tokyo is too unfamiliar and alienating for either protagonist to
connect to the culture. It is characterized by the unfamiliar landscape of never ending neon signs,
teenagers sporting synthetic fashion and multi coloured hair, and wild nightlife. Coppola
intentionally chooses not to educate the audience about Japanese mannerisms or cultural
differences like many would expect, showing Tokyo through Bob and Charlotte s perspective
instead. She uses Tokyo to represent the absurd world that is impossible to make sense of. This
setting is crucial in creating the feeling of alienation and isolation felt by both characters, which...

The overwhelming city takes up most of the frame and seems to engulf her. As her husband barely
pays attention to her, Charlotte is left alone to ponder her situation. Deciding to explore this
mysterious city, she travels to Shibuya, a popular tourist city. She analyzes the mannerisms of
Japanese people, trying to take in the different culture. However, Coppola does not make it easy for
her to connect with the strange culture. Frustrated, Charlotte ends up breaking down and revealing
on the phone that [she] didn t feel anything . Not only are both characters words lost in translation
but so is their relationship with Japanese culture. The lack of understanding, prevents any sort of
connection; therefore, they seek familiarity in each other.
In addition, the time difference between America and Japan also plays a key role in forming the
setting of the story. The insomnia and disorientation caused by jet lag causes most of the film to
take place between days, in the darkest hours of night. This helps the film tap into people s deepest
moments of thoughtfulness and

ALL 50 STATES SHOULD HAVE MANDATORY MOTORCYCLE HELMET LAWS
TOPIC: Mandatory motorcycle helmet laws
PURPOSE: To persuade the audience that all 50 states should enact and enforce a mandatory
motorcycle helmet law.
THESIS STATEMENT: Mandatory helmet laws save lives and dollars.

Did you know that only 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws in place that require all
motorcycle riders to wear a helmet? 19!?
28 states have laws covering some riders, usually people younger than 18.

Repeatedly, the effect is the same, no or fewer laws enforcing helmet wearing means increased
motorcycle rider fatalities
i. Less law requirement = less helmet wearing = more deaths
D. And that s the very real cost to you and me fewer Dads, uncles, sons, nephews (90% of all killed
are men)
Transition: But why? Why on earth would we weaken or get rid these laws when we know that
they prevent deaths?
II. Lots of motorcycle riders vehemently oppose these laws
A. They are passionate and vocal. They turn out in large numbers and ride their bikes around
Washington DC and state capitols. They walk the halls of legislatures and knock on doors lobbying
against helmet restrictions.
B. But safety is not the point that motorcycle rights activist groups are arguing: its freedom a. The

Reverend Hale Character Analysis
Reverend John Hale, an educated man of the Lord, arrives in Salem and unwittingly starts the
Salem Witch Trials and reveals the theme that lies blind even the most well intended from the
truth. Reverend Hale represents a good uncorrupt holy man, unlike Parris, and we have chosen a
New Testament bible due to his piety, but also due to the Congregationalist Protestant faith which
settled in New England. Hale presents himself as an educated man of the world and at the time
only priests became educated so we have chosen a textbook. From the very beginning, Hale
searches for the truth behind the witches in Salem and he remains determined to reveal the lies told
by Abigail. We have chosen to represent his determination by a magnifying glass or

A Long Term Financial Plan
If you re a homeowner, and you have a long term financial plan, you should include a strategy to
pay your mortgage off early. If you can, you ll have more money each month to payoff non
housing debt, or to build up long term savings to fund your children s college education, or to
prepare for your retirement. And speaking of retirement, you ll want your mortgagegone by the time
that day arrives, that way you won t need nearly as much income and your retirement portfolio will
last much longer.
Here are four ways to payoff your mortgage early that you ll hardly even notice. Use one or a
combination of two or more, and you ll be mortgage free well ahead of schedule.
Refinance to a mortgage with a shorter term
With mortgage rates currently in the 4.something range, this can be the simplest way to retire
your mortgage early. The idea is to refinance your loan, but reduce the term by at least five or 10
years. By doing so, you can convert a 30 year mortgage to a 25 year loan, or even a 20 year term.
As simple as this method is, there are some caveats to be aware of should you decide to go this
route:
You don t want to refinance if it will result in an increase in your interest rate of something on the
order of one percent or more. There s a point where a higher rate will offset the benefits of a
shorter term.
You don t want to add closing costs to the new loan balance doing so will only increase your
monthly payments, and make paying off the loan more difficult.
The term

The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication
The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health
Information Services (HIS) Departments when new technology or changes have to be implemented.
My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting
applied in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the
outcomes of job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on
motivation and communication in the HIS department?
The first thing we will examine if the principle of goal setting and how it is applied is this case.
Goals give an organization a vision and a direction in which to move. Goals setting by
organizations can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order
for job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them.
Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The
benefits are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when
implementing such a technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat
because there are added task, responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe
to be a common motivator; however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more
responsibility, and more accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is
the result because their chief complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that
can be combated with job enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and
low moral. There are plenty of risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is
overload which is already a complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern
of the Human Resources (HR) Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and
responsibility comes the question of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to
oversee the pay grade of the organization. An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing
and credentialing. Adding tasks to a job that requires additional

Progressivism, The And, And The Stock Market Crash
In America s pastime, there were many conflicts that continued to help shape America. Citizens
were becoming more aware and concerned about how America was managed, as conflict was
becoming a regular misfortune for the country. Events such as progressivism, the roaring twenties,
and the stock market crash may have seemed like a negative time in the United Statesat face value,
but the overall impacts and effects helped establish innovations that still positively influence the
lives of citizens today. Progressivism can be loosely defined as a way to progress towards better
conditions, which is what many people aspired to do for their country during the Gilded Age. This
ideal came about when people began to see poverty become more popular throughout the country,
and many blamed the government. Americans believed the solution was to have the government
fixed before it could fix other problems. Muckrakers were the first people to articulate progressive
ideas by uncovering corruption, targeting government and social problems, and raising awareness
through journalism and literature. Herbert Spencer was one man who tested the idea of natural
selection through his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. Spencer
strongly reinforced individualism by applying the theory of evolution and natural selection to
human society. He believed society became better because only the fittest survived and those who
didn t gradually died. Some industrial leaders began to use

Saving innocent people and exposing the bad guys is what heroes do. Bradley Manning did just
that when he leaked United States government cables and videos to WikiLeaks. His intent was to
expose the killing of innocent civilians as part of the Iraqi war and to inform citizens so that they
could take action. He is now imprisoned and facing twenty two felony counts, all of which
incriminate him as a traitor to the U.S. and that could result in him serving fifty two years behind
bars. Manning believed that the U.S. government was committing war crimes and that the world

Manning was identified as the individual who leaked the horrifying Collateral Murder video,
widely distributed and viewed on the Internet, in which several innocent Iraqis as well as two
Reuters journalists are gunned down by a U.S. Apache helicopter. The trove of information leaked
also contained The Iraq WarLogs and Afghan War Diary (Lucas). The Iraqi War Logs and the
Afghan War Diary are a compilation of documents about the cover up of information pertaining to
civilians tortured and killed by international forces (Karhula). The documents released include both
classified and unclassified documents. The released information show evidence of clear war
crimes and torture of which the U.S. had full knowledge (Madar 2). Manning s actions were not
rewarded as those of a patriot whistleblower but treated as those of a war time spy or criminal.
The twenty two charges, the most serious of which is aiding the enemy who was identified by
the prosecution in his case as Al Qaeda (Marshall), could result in life in prison. The Military
Whistleblowers Protection Act outlines protection against reprisals as a result of disclosing

The Wife of Bath s tale, from the Canterbury Tales, by Geoffrey Chaucer, illustrates trust. Trust, an
emotion on Plutchik s wheel of emotions, is a recurring theme throughout the tale. Trust was shown
by every main character in the tale: the king to the queen, the queen to the knight, the knight to the
old wife, and the old wife to the knight. Trust is crucial to the plot of the Wife of Bath s tale. The
first act of trust is shown by the king. The king allowed the queen to punish the knight. The queen
felt the punishment of beheading the knight was too simple. The knight would not learn from his
wrongdoings. She wanted the knight to learn women are more than objects and should be treated as
equals. The king allows the queen to discipline the

The Consequences Of European Standards Of Beauty On Black...
The consequences of European Standards of beauty on Black women Melissa Bandoo 03/31
/2015 Abstract As a consequence of history and European standards of beauty upheld in society
black women are conditioned to loathe attributes distinctive to their race which, therefore, leads
to low self esteem. Black women today have a plethora of advertisements thrown at them that
white wash, body shame, and encourage them to assimilate to European standards of beauty for
example straightening their hair which ultimately alters a woman s outlook on self. Hypothesis
African American women have low self esteem due to European standards of beauty but their
expectations of beauty differ from women and young women of other races due to cultural
differences and surroundings. Darker skinned African Americans are less confident in
themselves due to the glorification of lighter skin. Introduction As we know, history has
separated African American people from the greater white society . Black women in early
history were maids and slaves that were often separated by skin complexion, women that were
lighter in complexion were put in the house as slaves as maids and caregivers and women with a
darker complexion were put out in the field to work on crops. A large amount of house slaves,
who were offspring of their masters, had lighter complexions and were told that they were better
than their fellow darker skinned slaves. Social status among slaves was brought about by the house

Female Painting Research Paper
I have been in the professional painting business for 10 years now, I am a 39 year old female. I
get a lot of questions and odd looks when they see a female painter, but after they see my work, I

neat my painting is, compared to other painters they have hired, in many cases I had to correct
other painters work or finish what they started.
I have worked with many male painters and only a couple of female painters, but I find there are
more and more females getting into the painting business.
I find painting very relaxing and I love seeing the end results.

Class Between Class And Class Essay
Economic class division in the United States is simultaneously one of the most visible and
invisible issues facing this nation today. Unlike issues that many passionate individuals aren t
afraid to voice their opinions on such as racism, sexism, climate change, and marriage equality,
the issue of class divide is like the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about or
address. As Bell Hooks puts it, author of Where We Stand: Class Matters, Racism and sexism
can be exploited in the interests of class power. Yet no one wants to talk about class. (Hooks 7)
The fact that discussions of class and class divide have become such a taboo in the United States
is truly disappointing. Class, more than race or gender, is the single biggest factor in
determining someone s success. Therefor, it should go without saying that discussions and
open dialog about class are crucial in this society in order to advances its citizens and promote
success with as many people as possible. It wasn t always like this. There was indeed a time in
our history when class was talked about, a time when the poor were cared for, not seen as
second class citizens or a taboo. David Hilfiker describes an earlier time in our history as a
nation when it was just assumed that a physician would care for the poor. However, in more
recent times Hilfiker finds himself regarded almost as a saint because he chooses to work with the
poor. (Hooks 41) Although the precise point at which this switch in logic

The Differences Of Religion In Eastern And Western Religions
The eastern religions that we have discussed in class are Hinduism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and
Taoism. The western religions that we have discussed in class are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
The Eastern Religions have originated in countries such as China, India, and Japan. The western
religions originated in Europe and the Americas. There are few similarities between eastern
religions and western religions, but many differences. The biggest difference between the two
religions is that eastern religions believe in more than one god, whereas western religions believe in
one God.
In eastern religions it is common to worship more than one god. Eastern religions believe in
polytheism, and polytheism is when someone believes in many gods. After death, Eastern religions
believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is the rebirth and spirit matter distinction and is the
liberation cycle of existence. In western religions only one God is worshipped. Western religions
believe in monotheism. Monotheism is the belief of one God and it is the belief that only God has
created the world and everything in it. After death, western religions believe in heaven. A similarity
of eastern religions and western religions are that they both believe in an afterlife, although they do
not believe in the same kind of afterlife. Another similarity is that both eastern and western religions
have had a huge impact throughout history. Hinduism is one of the eastern religions that we
discussed in class.

Essay about Santa Claus Does Exist
Santa Claus Does Exist
So you don t believe in Santa Claus. It s understandable. We find ourselves in an age of pure
skepticism. We question everything. Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all
questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it s quite
understandable why you don t believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It s indeed
understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one
that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. It s understandable
to abandon Santa Claus after hearing countless people deny his very physical or even spiritual
existence. After all, one tends to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the wreaths and Yule logs that come standard with this holiday comes a caring from deep in
the hearts of people unbeknownst to them at any other time of the year. At the sight of the
Christmas decor and the flames roaring at the hearth, a warmth envelops the heart, one with which
no flame, however hot, could compete. We see in our gift wrap and our greeting cards and our
holiday stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the
daily heartaches we all know as familiar.
Santa Claus must exist. How else would you describe this change in the way humans interact during
these otherwise dreary winter months? Santa Claus is the catalyst of human goodness, sparking
within us a genuine care for our neighbor, bringing us together for this wonderful season. Think of a
world without Santa Claus!
While your intelligence is gnawing at the lack of proof (the absent shred of red cloth torn by the
fireplace or the nonexistent cookie crumbs leading from the tree up the chimney), I believe even
still, just as millions upon millions believe in some type of god. As you deny Santa Claus on the
grounds of no proof, I accept him on those same grounds. Who are we to deny something we cannot
understand and therefore cannot explain? No amount of persuasion can convince me that Santa
Claus does not exist through people who celebrate Christmas, just as Christians believe Jesus exists
through them today,

College Essay About Success
When talking about success most often people think of actors, millionaires, etc. Coming from a
small town, a not so wealthy family, and being a first generation college graduate, that s not what
success means to me. To me success could be as simple as getting an A+ on an assignment. Now I
am going to be talking about success strategy s that I think are important, and that everyone could
benefit from. First I will talk about self motivation and the benefits it has. Second I will talk about
stressmanagement and what you can do to relieve stress. Third I will talk about self
responsibility and what it means. Lastly I will talk about communicating in the classroom. The
first success strategy that I find to be the most important is self motivation (Downing, 2004). It
took me a long time to understand, and gain the courage to have self motivation. Sometimes it s
really hard to have self motivation because of family, friends, and life in general. For example,
when I graduated high school, I moved to Presque Isle to go to school for nursing. Three weeks

Ethical Implications of Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Warfare
Thesis
As current problems of terrorism and the war on Iraq, chemical, biological and nuclear warfare
(CBW) issues are important and relevant. CBW agents are dangerous, uncontrollable and
undifferentiating weapons of mass destructions. Chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are
capable of mass destruction aimed at killing masses of people. Using CBW agents comes with
many ethical dilemmas and consequential side effects. Chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons
are designed to yield a great number of deaths. Regarding the ethical use of CBW, while looking at
the larger context of war, one must determine the value of life. As backed by Virtues Ethics, this

These are just a few examples of many accounts of the use of chemical and biological agents in war.
Is the use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons in war ethical? Is there an appropriate time to
use them? A dilemma will later be presented for consideration. Different ethical theories can either
support or oppose the use of CBW depending on the circumstances. However, chemical, biological
and nuclear agents are dangerous, uncontrollable and undifferentiating weapons of mass
destructions. Actions must be taken to see that there are no future instances of use during war.
However, before one discusses the legal and ethical issues involved with CBW, one must understand
what chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are and how they function.
Chemical Weapons
There are many types of chemical agents that can be used for a variety of effects. Most are not
meant to be lethal, but most chemicals at high concentrations can be lethal. Vomiting gases are used
for riot control or harassing agents and are only meant to irritate. The body attempts to counter the
irritation either by secreting fluids or by initiating reflex actions, for instance, vomiting, (Rose,
1968, p. 20). It is the incapacitating nature of these responses that gives vomiting gases their
harassing effects and name.
Choking gases irritate the lower branches of the lungs. The gases can destroy the sensitive lung

Pros And Cons Of Frederick Winslow Taylor s Principles Of...
When I am appointed as a consultant by the Government to research and suggest improvements
for the organization, I would put forward the following points that are mandatory to be changed
and as mentioned in the question, I shall find and suggest measures to improve the company
policy and rules as it is being criticized for Taylorism , which in it s own way has pros and cons.
Taylorism, which is actually a method adopted and named after the US Industrial Engineer
Frederick Winslow Taylor, who in his 1911 book Principles Of Scientific Management laid down the
fundamental principles of large scale manufacturing through assembly line factories.
Introduced in the early 20th century, Taylorism basically :
(1) has the aim to achieve the best and great result on the job fragmentation upfront by basically to
minimizing the skill requirements and grasping time, (2) it also splits execution of work from the
actual work plan. (3) the it splits direct labor from indirect labor.
(4) it replaces rule of thumb productivity estimating the right/correct/precise measurements,
(5) also, it introduces time and motion study for optimum job performance, cost accounting, tool
and work station design, and
(6) finally it makes it possible to achieve the payment by result method of wage determination.

Taylorism denies the fact that managers can chose from a variety of strategies and in many cases
can be flexible in their approach to the workforce. This methodology will also be changed and an
improvement will be arranged from my end.
Again another problem that exists is Fair s day s pay for a fair day s work: Also the external
factors such as scarcity, product demand and economic conditions within the country, all out of the
direct control of management.
This will be taken care of by the management and no complains of any sort will be provided from

Great White Shark Informative Speech
They have 300 serrated teeth, a torpedo shaped body and swallow their prey whole. Can anyone
one tell me what sea creature this is? Yes. It s the Great White Shark.
Introduction:
Hey everyone, I m Nino and today I will informing you all about the most fierce and feared
predator in the sea. In this speech I will be discussing the evolution, the physiology, its ecological
niche and propose a postulate for the future health and survival of the Great White Shark. The Great
White is scientifically known as the Carcharodon carcharias and is considered a carnivorous killing
machine which is at the top of its food chain. This fish has been around for hundreds of millions of
years and its evolution has enabled it to develop some extraordinary abilities ... Show more content

The Great White is ovoviviparous, which mean that the shark grows in an egg which is then
hatched inside the mother. Once the shark pup is born it stays in the womb for a short period of
time where the embryos feed on unfertilized eggs which is referred to as oophagy. The gestation
period is the time that the eggs are in the womb until they hatch which is estimate to around 12
to 18 months. Lastly, is the litter size which ranges vastly for the Great White from two to ten
pups. The new born measures to 5 feet (1.5 metres) and weighing 77 pounds (35Kg). However,
the reason as to why the Great White doesn t breed as fast as other animals is because they have a
slow growth rate to maturity and a low reproductive rate which is a worry for the survival of its
kind in the future as they only live up to the age of 30 years old.
Population:
The estimation of the Great Whites Shark is set to be estimated at 2000 however recent studies
indicate that this number has decreased by 50 % and the already threatened species is closer to
extinction that was hoped for. To prevent this animal for becoming extinct a number of countries
have vowed to protect the Great White Shark and they are South Afric, Namibia, USA, Australia
and Malta.

Throws and submissions are both scored in a different way. When being scored, the force and
control of the throw or pin is taken into account. You can score a ippon, wazari, yuko, or koka.
Ippons are the highest you can score. An ippon is scored when you throw your opponent so that
their back completely touches the mat. Wazaris are scored when an opponent falls partially on
there back, two wazaris equal one ippon. Next are yukos and kokas. A yuko is only 5 points and
is scored when an opponent falls mostly on there side. Kokas are 3 points and are scored when
an opponent falls on there thighs or buttocks. (source for paragraph; jkajudo.tripod.com) Pins are

Religion and its role in societies 600 B.C.E. 600 C.E.
Codifications and further developments of existing religious traditions provided a bond among the
people and an ethical code to live by.
Religion has been a dominant cultural, ethical, and political force throughout human history, both
recent and ancient. Religion has been science and asylum for many generations of very many
people, uniting them in their common faith. Temples were built for people to pray and perform
sacrifice in, giving the people a common cause to live for and thereby creating personal relations
between people even before you got to know them. The unique features of ancient religions were
that they were all polytheistic, meaning that they recognized many gods, instead of one main
one. And the problem with this was that in the ancient history, before the invention of writing,
nothing was written down: stories were told verbally, laws were passed on verbally, and writing
things down was an incredible task for the ancient people, and gave incredible glory to the people
that did it, because if it s written down, it s much easier to spread your beliefs and it s harder to
forget specifics of your religion or law. Writing down religious and political texts has greatly
facilitated the religions diffusion and spread throughout the globe, and consequently, brought
together and apart many more religious people and governments.
What also helped currently popular and dominant religions spread was that most

Strategy and tactics[edit]
Many of the officers and veteran soldiers of the English Civil War studied and implemented war
strategies that had been learned and perfected in other wars across Europe, namely by the Spanish
and the Dutch during the Dutch war for independence which began in 1568.[7]
The main battle tactic came to be known as pike and shot infantry, in which the two sides would
line up, facing each other, with infantry brigades of musketeers in the centre, carrying matchlock
muskets; these muskets were inaccurate, but could be lethal at a range of up to 300 yards. The
brigades would arrange themselves in lines of musketeers, three deep, where the first row would
kneel, the second would crouch, and the third would stand, allowing all three to fire a volley
simultaneously.[8] At times there would be two groups of three lines allowing one group to
reload while the other group arranged themselves and fired.[9][page needed] Mixed in among the
musketeers were pikemen carrying pikes that were between 12 feet (4 m) and 18 feet (5 m) long,
whose primary purpose was to protect the musketeers from cavalry charges. Positioned on each side

Exploring The Interaction Between Volcanic And...
Introduction
In order to understand the interaction between volcanic and seismotectonic processes, some
meaningful terms have to be comprehended (Zobin, 2012). For instance, a volcano is a vent in the
surface of the Earth that has in its internal structure a magma reservoir with gases and in its
external structure solidified ejected material (Zobin, 2012). In the matter of its internal structure, it
is considered that the gases govern great part of the life of a volcano (Zobin, 2012). Those volcanic
gases, also known as volatiles, can explain the dissolution and exsolution processes within the
magma stages (Kazahaya et al., 2015). As a consequence, gases are a trigger that can cause a
volcanic eruption and, thus, seismic activity (Zobin, 2012). Therefore, correlations between
volcanic gas studies and geophysical methods, such as infrasound and seismicity, provide
understanding in volcanic phenomena and may predict volcanic eruptions (Kazahaya et al., 2015).
Volcanic seismology is the study of the origin of seismic signals related with volcanic processes
(Zobin, 2012). The nature of this science rests over the mathematical and physical approach that
describes the sources producing seismic waves (Zobin, 2012). Volcanic earthquakes have been used
for monitoring and forecasting eruptions (Sigurdsson et al., 2015). They are divided into two
groups, which are the volcano tectonic and eruption earthquakes (Zobin, 2012). Those two groups
split into four types, which are part of

Examples Of Dido In The Aeneid
A prime example of a relationship that holds the stability of a society on its shoulders in The
Aeneid is between Dido (Queen of Carthage) and the Carthaginian people. We first encounter Dido
in Book One, when Aeneas and Achates are wandering through Carthage, shrouded by cloud. Virgil
describes, Dido walked happily with the throng around her, intent on hastening the work for her

description of Didowalking around Carthagestarkly contrasts with Virgil s passage in Book four

understand Virgil s viewpoint on the situation. In her attempt to help Aeneas, Venus
inadvertently cuts all ties Dido had with her people. Venus weapon of choice: love. Once the
graceful, level headed queen was infected by cupid s arrow, she became irrational and
irresponsible with only Aeneas in mind, breaking the relationship she had with her subjects.
Dido laments, Because of (Aeneas) I have lost all self respect and my good name, my only hope
of reaching the stars, an example of the inner conflict caused by a breakdown in relationship.
Once compared to the exceptionally beautiful Diana, Virgil s last description of Dido before her
suicide is as follows; Her eyes were reddening and rolling... and she was pale with the pallor of
imminent death. This character breakdown provides the audience with excellent evidence of how
love (due to the interference from the gods) ruined Dido, and subsequently the strong relationship
she had once fostered with her

Descriptive Essay About Snow
It was a cold day, so cold that your arms start to sting as if a needle is impaling the surface of your
skin. The wind applies a force which feels as if your face is oozing with thick crimson red blood.
The gray puffy clouds covered the sky and dropped small snowflakes onto the road s surface. A
man stood there, freezing, clearing the coat of thick white snowfrom the concrete road. His nose
runs with a river of snot that floods out when the cold windstrikes. His sense of smell is heavily
clogged by the slimy snot, but he can still smell the scent of the steamy hot chocolate which sits
on the top of his snow covered car. His feet start to numb because of the cold flood which soaks
through his boots to his white, silky socks. His feet feel as if he stepped into the freezing cold
ocean. As if he fell through ice and he was stuck standing there. The vast pile of the ice white
snow feels almost like a quicksand around his black rubber boot. Foggy figures of people shovel the
big piles of snow off the sidewalks. They scrape and pick at the glossy white ice which sticks to
the sidewalk like a little boy clinging to his mother s side. His feet still sting as if he was
stepping on pins and needles. His hands are damp with sweat from grasping the curved metal
shaft attached to a socket which holds the blade. The blade cuts holes into the thick powdered
snow which is removed from the endless pile. The jet black shovel is filled with slushy snow and
crystal shards of ice. The end of

Corporatization of Information Technology
The field of Information Technology is a broad field. In the Corporate aspect of IT, it has many
sub categories and jobs that in actuality work together to create one system. I am more into the
Networking management and Technician side of Information Technology. We work with
computers communicating over a network with other computers and the internet. There are many
other important parts to IT like general computer troubleshooters, and server managers, web
interface creators, and database managers. Though I have researched some articles I am interested
in which aspect is more beneficial in a corporate aspect and which is less needed. Here are two

Observation Report On Field Experience
Field Experience My first day of observations had finally arrived. Filled with excitement, I
opened the doors to Pleasant Ridge Elementary School, and walked into the front office to sign
in as a guest for the day. I made my way to the second grade wing to do my first observation for
my field experience report. The second grade instructor greeted me as I entered her classroom, with
a big bright smile I found made her classroom warm and inviting.
Mrs. Lawrence had her students desks arranged in three rows of grouped tables. The first row is
composed of eight tables and chairs, second row is composed of nine tables and chairs, the third
row is composed of eleven tables and chairs, and one table is leaned up against the teacher s desk.

Students requiring assistance in a specific area are removed from class during the lesson s time slot
as an attempt to assist and improve a student s understanding of said lesson. During my
observations in her classroom, I observed Reading/Writing and Math lessons. For her Reading
/Writing lesson, she discussed cause and effect. She had a couple of examples displayed on the
smart board. She read the sentence and called on students to answer specific questions relating to
her lesson. Some students were eager to answer and others not so much.
Mrs. Lawrence frequently utilizes rhymes and actions, such as rhythm hand clapping to gain her
student s attention. She also uses songs to give students enough time to get their things together
during lesson transitions or station transitions located throughout her classroom. The sayings and
hand actions very catchy, and her signing was a great way to get students to take responsibility for
themselves and to do as instructed. Mrs. Lawrence divided her students into four stations or groups
during her Reading/Writing and Math lessons. A group of students played educational games on
the smart board, a second group would silent read during reading/writing, a third group would work
on worksheets, and a fourth group would meet with here for one on one lesson instruction. Mrs.
Lawrence had her students rotate every

Memory is the function of storage in a computer comes in a lot of different sizes, types and
shapes. There are two basic categories: short term and long term. A classic computer contains
several types of memory including RAM, ROM, cache, and various long term storage devices.
Each type of computer memory serves a detailed function and purpose.
Computer memory is dignified in bytes. A single byte is made up of a series of 1 s and 0 s
normally traveling in sets of eight. These eight 0 s and 1 s are the way the computer communicates
and stores information. With each character a byte of memory is used.

Argumentative Essay On Sex Education
Transitioning from childhood to teenage years is already awkward enough for most girls, but the
talk is unbearable for some. Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education
is the lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can
have grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has
consequently set the foundation for an orgasminequality, favoring men over women. The nation s
incomplete standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them
enough about their own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old
cisgendered woman named Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman
knows herself and her own sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin.
Currently in the united states there are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health
education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How, and what is taught is left to each of the individual
states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of information is being taught to Americans, but it may
or not be favorable to the student s well being. It seems rather controversial that local governments,
which students can rarely participate in, choose the fate of their sexual health education. It is an
unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have had extensive and medically accurate
education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained

An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts
According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for
letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his
partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then
maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his
mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last
time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he
moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a
melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my
words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t
seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates
the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. When he tried to tell them about
his problems he found it strange that he could never explain to them. In the end that person left
him. When he tried to get them back, he couldn t move and watched as they left... Show more

I immediately related to the singer and felt the empty and lonely emotions he portrayed in his
lyrics. The many ifs he uses in the song is something I ask myself all the time. What would have
happened if I had done somethings I had declined? What if I m not good enough or not strong
enough. What if I had left a long time ago. The many ifs that I ask myself are all regrets and
words of self loathing. Astronauts has helped me empty my thoughts as the song had sang for
me. The lyrics were words I had kept hidden for years. I had no outlet to empty out these feelings
and this song had done it for me. The song had touched my heart and I will hold it dear to me

America Should Spend More on Space Exploration Essay
The United Sates federal government is planning on cutting federal funding for space exploration
and NASA towards the end of the year. The Space Race began in the 1950 s and 1960 s when
Russia sent up the first successful, unmanned satellite named Sputnik in into outer space. The U.S.
response was the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. During this time,
the Soviets sent the first man in to orbit, Yuri Gagarin. Then, in July of 1969, the U.S. took the
lead in the race by sending the first men to the moon on Apollo 11( Space Exploration1). Ever since
then, space exploration has lead to the discovery of much beneficial information that has allowed
us to invent some of the greatest devices we now use today. The... Show more content on

astronaut residencies were able to work together and exchange and deliver supplies and equipment
in order to further space exploration (Horowitz 2). Mir showed that space exploration is no longer
a competition between nations and helped Americans and Russians develop expertise to build and
maintain the space station. Now, this International Space Station is the largest international space
collaboration of all time. 15 countries have all come together to seek to improve life on Earth and
pave the way for future space exploration. The United States needs to work together with these
other nations so we do not become isolated like in the past, ruining our economy. With the help of
these other nations, the U.S. and NASA can make new discoveries in space that may benefit the
way we live today.
NASA has proven that space exploration is the key to the future. Technologies developed by NASA
have been used in many different areas, from agriculture to computer science. These space related
technologies and scientific knowledge have contributed to high performance computing, robotics,
scratch resistant eyeglass lenses, breast cancer imaging, and satellites that support communication,
navigation, weather observation, and other remote sensing disciplines (Horowitz 2). Have you ever
thought how your life would change if NASA never developed the modern cell phone? The
differences would be noticeable immediately. The main argument against space exploration is that,

Causes And Treatment Of Lymphatic Filariasis
Lymphatic filariasis related to Wuchereria bancrofti INTRODUCITON
Seventeen distinct diseases run rampant through developing countries, known as the neglected
tropical diseases. They infect an average of 2.7 billion people world wide, but mainly infect
those living in poverty stricken countries. These diseases can lead to life long disabilities,
disfigurement, and promote poverty. Most of the infected countries live on an average of two
U.S. dollars a day with no access to healthcare, making some of the relatively cheap drug therapies
unattainable. Even though the neglected tropical diseases infect over two billion people and cause
an average of five hundred thousand deaths a year respectively, research and awareness for these
diseases are virtually nonexistent. Since these diseases are not found in first world countries with
adequate health care, research and funding is not seen as a priority.
The neglected tropical diseases are caused by different pathogens. Eight are caused by Helminths,
three by protozoa, two by viruses, and the remaining four diseases are caused by bacteria. The most
common of the seventeen diseases include: ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm infection,
schistosmoiasis, trachoma, onchocerciasis, and lymphatic filariasis.
Lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis, infects over a hundred and twenty million people
a year, with forty million left disfigured and incapacitated, and 1.3 billion at risk of infection. With

Gluckel of Hameln’s Memoirs
Gluckel of Hameln s memoirs Gluckel of Hameln was a Jewish woman from Hamburg who
lived in the seventeenth century. She wrote her lengthy memoirs in Yiddish. Her memoir is
regarded to be one of the most important documents for European Jewish history written by a
Jewish woman. The diary or the memoirs are addressed to her fourteen children. In 1690,
Gluckel became a widow after the death of her husband and the memoirs were a therapeutic way
to heal her wounded heart. The diary was used to take away her sad thoughts and to get her
through her sadness. She states I am not writing this book in order to preach to you, but, as I have
already said, to drive away the melancholy that comes with the long nights ... However, in her diary

In her memoir in book five she gives credit to some of the women like Esther Mattie who she
describes as, A pious, honorable woman who ...always went to fairs. Gluckel also recognizes
widows like Baruch of Berlin, who she says ... still remained fully in business after her husband
s death. The information reflects how the Jewish businesswomen took seriously their work by
travelling to the fairs abroad to sell their goods. This was atypical to the German Christian wives
who stayed within the city walls and played their role in the retail sector. Unlike the German
Christian wives, the Jewish wives were not viewed to be flattering by becoming dominant
members of society and be fully engaged in the male dominant labor force. The Jewish wives were
viewed as subordinates in the society who were assumed to become active and bring home an
income. The Jewish women travelled to the fairs to sell their merchandise and this did not
undermine the woman s reputation. Unlike their Christian partners, women who earned much
brought additional marriage proposals, because it indicated the woman s commitment to her
husband and family. The memoirs serve as a reminder to her children to know the value of hard
work. The memoir shows the distinction between hard work of the German Jewish women and the
German Christian women in the 17th and 18th century. The memoirs have placed the main focus
on the comparison of German Jewish women s lives and that of German Christian women s lives.

  • 2. The Licence Fee Challenged The Licence Fee Challenged When the licence fee was first introduced it was seen as an appropriate way to keep the BBC free from commercial and government interests. When the licensee was first introduced into the wireless telegraphy act in November 1923 to cover radio sets it cost 10 shillings per year. By the end of the year 200, 000 licences had been issued and five years later this had risen to two and a half million licenses. During the forties a combined radio and TV licence was issued costing ВЈ2 in 1946, Combine license is continued until 1971 when all radio sets were exempted from the fee.. TV licence is currently costs ВЈ126.50 annual average household however it s free for the over 75 s and half price for the blind, The BBC still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many alternatives to the licence fee have been proposed, initially the BBC contemplated using a model championed by retail giant John Lewis in which licence fee payers could become part shareholders in the corporation. Since the freezing of the current licence fee rate until 2017, have been forced to make BBC3 a purely online service. Director General Tony Hall warned that BBC4 could be next to go, if further cuts were made to the BBC s funding . There have also been calls to introduce a subscription model for the BBC, which has been firmly rejected by the corporation. The BBC warned that a subscription model could be exclusionary to those unable to afford to pay. Their refusal to enter into a subscription based system may be justified, as Sky, the UK s first subscription based model announced a target of 10 million homes in 2004, the target was only reached in 2010, as subscriber numbers elsewhere in europe started to plateau. The amount of time taken to reach this milestone should be of worry for the BBC, as if they are unable to encourage enough people to sign on the dotted line then they may experience a severe deficit of ... There is limited healthcare services and literature that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for culturally diverse populations. These barriers have been shown over the years to threaten how effective care is for these populations. The healthcare system depends on nurses to facilitate services, care plans and educate patients on various health issues. Many patients who live in these communities have low literacy levels, and often need help completing medical forms, intake assessments, reading their medical results, bills as well as educational materials. Additional resources for this population should include pictorial pamphlets, medical interpreters and low literacy literature for these patients. Including family members in the process will help nurses bridge the culture and linguistic gaps in communication and care. • 4. Charlotte Coppola Essay Coppola uses Tokyo to create an isolated setting, vital to the development of the story. Despite being the most populous city in the world, Tokyo is too unfamiliar and alienating for either protagonist to connect to the culture. It is characterized by the unfamiliar landscape of never ending neon signs, teenagers sporting synthetic fashion and multi coloured hair, and wild nightlife. Coppola intentionally chooses not to educate the audience about Japanese mannerisms or cultural differences like many would expect, showing Tokyo through Bob and Charlotte s perspective instead. She uses Tokyo to represent the absurd world that is impossible to make sense of. This setting is crucial in creating the feeling of alienation and isolation felt by both characters, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overwhelming city takes up most of the frame and seems to engulf her. As her husband barely pays attention to her, Charlotte is left alone to ponder her situation. Deciding to explore this mysterious city, she travels to Shibuya, a popular tourist city. She analyzes the mannerisms of Japanese people, trying to take in the different culture. However, Coppola does not make it easy for her to connect with the strange culture. Frustrated, Charlotte ends up breaking down and revealing on the phone that [she] didn t feel anything . Not only are both characters words lost in translation but so is their relationship with Japanese culture. The lack of understanding, prevents any sort of connection; therefore, they seek familiarity in each other. In addition, the time difference between America and Japan also plays a key role in forming the setting of the story. The insomnia and disorientation caused by jet lag causes most of the film to take place between days, in the darkest hours of night. This helps the film tap into people s deepest moments of thoughtfulness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why on earth would we weaken or get rid these laws when we know that they prevent deaths? II. Lots of motorcycle riders vehemently oppose these laws A. They are passionate and vocal. They turn out in large numbers and ride their bikes around Washington DC and state capitols. They walk the halls of legislatures and knock on doors lobbying against helmet restrictions. B. Reverend Hale represents a good uncorrupt holy man, unlike Parris, and we have chosen a New Testament bible due to his piety, but also due to the Congregationalist Protestant faith which settled in New England. Hale presents himself as an educated man of the world and at the time only priests became educated so we have chosen a textbook. • 8. A Long Term Financial Plan If you re a homeowner, and you have a long term financial plan, you should include a strategy to pay your mortgage off early. If you can, you ll have more money each month to payoff non housing debt, or to build up long term savings to fund your children s college education, or to prepare for your retirement. And speaking of retirement, you ll want your mortgagegone by the time that day arrives, that way you won t need nearly as much income and your retirement portfolio will last much longer. Here are four ways to payoff your mortgage early that you ll hardly even notice. Use one or a combination of two or more, and you ll be mortgage free well ahead of schedule. Refinance to a mortgage with a shorter term With mortgage rates currently in the 4.something range, this can be the simplest way to retire your mortgage early. The idea is to refinance your loan, but reduce the term by at least five or 10 years. By doing so, you can convert a 30 year mortgage to a 25 year loan, or even a 20 year term. As simple as this method is, there are some caveats to be aware of should you decide to go this route: You don t want to refinance if it will result in an increase in your interest rate of something on the order of one percent or more. There s a point where a higher rate will offset the benefits of a shorter term. You don t want to add closing costs to the new loan balance doing so will only increase your monthly payments, and make paying off the loan more difficult. The term ... • 9. The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health Information Services (HIS) Departments when new technology or changes have to be implemented. My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting applied in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the outcomes of job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on motivation and communication in the HIS department? The first thing we will examine if the principle of goal setting and how it is applied is this case. Goals give an organization a vision and a direction in which to move. Goals setting by organizations can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order for job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them. Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The benefits are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when implementing such a technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat because there are added task, responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe to be a common motivator; however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more responsibility, and more accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is the result because their chief complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that can be combated with job enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and low moral. There are plenty of risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is overload which is already a complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern of the Human Resources (HR) Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and responsibility comes the question of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to oversee the pay grade of the organization. An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing and credentialing. • 10. Progressivism, The And, And The Stock Market Crash In America s pastime, there were many conflicts that continued to help shape America. Citizens were becoming more aware and concerned about how America was managed, as conflict was becoming a regular misfortune for the country. Events such as progressivism, the roaring twenties, and the stock market crash may have seemed like a negative time in the United Statesat face value, but the overall impacts and effects helped establish innovations that still positively influence the lives of citizens today. Progressivism can be loosely defined as a way to progress towards better conditions, which is what many people aspired to do for their country during the Gilded Age. This ideal came about when people began to see poverty become more popular throughout the country, and many blamed the government. Americans believed the solution was to have the government fixed before it could fix other problems. Muckrakers were the first people to articulate progressive ideas by uncovering corruption, targeting government and social problems, and raising awareness through journalism and literature. Herbert Spencer was one man who tested the idea of natural selection through his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. Spencer strongly reinforced individualism by applying the theory of evolution and natural selection to human society. • 15. The Consequences Of European Standards Of Beauty On Black... The consequences of European Standards of beauty on Black women Melissa Bandoo 03/31 /2015 Abstract As a consequence of history and European standards of beauty upheld in society black women are conditioned to loathe attributes distinctive to their race which, therefore, leads to low self esteem. Black women today have a plethora of advertisements thrown at them that white wash, body shame, and encourage them to assimilate to European standards of beauty for example straightening their hair which ultimately alters a woman s outlook on self. Hypothesis African American women have low self esteem due to European standards of beauty but their expectations of beauty differ from women and young women of other races due to cultural differences and surroundings. Darker skinned African Americans are less confident in themselves due to the glorification of lighter skin. Introduction As we know, history has separated African American people from the greater white society . Black women in early history were maids and slaves that were often separated by skin complexion, women that were lighter in complexion were put in the house as slaves as maids and caregivers and women with a darker complexion were put out in the field to work on crops. A large amount of house slaves, who were offspring of their masters, had lighter complexions and were told that they were better than their fellow darker skinned slaves. Social status among slaves was brought about by the house and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I get a lot of questions and odd looks when they see a female painter, but after they see my work, I get a lot of comments. The comments are usually geared towards how great of a job I do and how neat my painting is, compared to other painters they have hired, in many cases I had to correct other painters work or finish what they started. I have worked with many male painters and only a couple of female painters, but I find there are more and more females getting into the painting business. • 18. Class Between Class And Class Essay Economic class division in the United States is simultaneously one of the most visible and invisible issues facing this nation today. Unlike issues that many passionate individuals aren t afraid to voice their opinions on such as racism, sexism, climate change, and marriage equality, the issue of class divide is like the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about or address. As Bell Hooks puts it, author of Where We Stand: Class Matters, Racism and sexism can be exploited in the interests of class power. Yet no one wants to talk about class. (Hooks 7) The fact that discussions of class and class divide have become such a taboo in the United States is truly disappointing. Class, more than race or gender, is the single biggest factor in determining someone s success. Therefor, it should go without saying that discussions and open dialog about class are crucial in this society in order to advances its citizens and promote success with as many people as possible. It wasn t always like this. There was indeed a time in our history when class was talked about, a time when the poor were cared for, not seen as second class citizens or a taboo. David Hilfiker describes an earlier time in our history as a nation when it was just assumed that a physician would care for the poor. However, in more recent times Hilfiker finds himself regarded almost as a saint because he chooses to work with the poor. (Hooks 41) Although the precise point at which this switch in logic ... • 20. The Differences Of Religion In Eastern And Western Religions The eastern religions that we have discussed in class are Hinduism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The western religions that we have discussed in class are Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The Eastern Religions have originated in countries such as China, India, and Japan. The western religions originated in Europe and the Americas. There are few similarities between eastern religions and western religions, but many differences. The biggest difference between the two religions is that eastern religions believe in more than one god, whereas western religions believe in one God. In eastern religions it is common to worship more than one god. Eastern religions believe in polytheism, and polytheism is when someone believes in many gods. After death, Eastern religions believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is the rebirth and spirit matter distinction and is the liberation cycle of existence. In western religions only one God is worshipped. Western religions believe in monotheism. Monotheism is the belief of one God and it is the belief that only God has created the world and everything in it. After death, western religions believe in heaven. A similarity of eastern religions and western religions are that they both believe in an afterlife, although they do not believe in the same kind of afterlife. Another similarity is that both eastern and western religions have had a huge impact throughout history. Hinduism is one of the eastern religions that we discussed in class. ... Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it s quite understandable why you don t believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It s indeed understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. We see in our gift wrap and our greeting cards and our holiday stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the daily heartaches we all know as familiar. College Essay About Success When talking about success most often people think of actors, millionaires, etc. Coming from a small town, a not so wealthy family, and being a first generation college graduate, that s not what success means to me. To me success could be as simple as getting an A+ on an assignment. Now I am going to be talking about success strategy s that I think are important, and that everyone could benefit from. First I will talk about self motivation and the benefits it has. Second I will talk about stressmanagement and what you can do to relieve stress. Third I will talk about self responsibility and what it means. Lastly I will talk about communicating in the classroom. The first success strategy that I find to be the most important is self motivation (Downing, 2004). It took me a long time to understand, and gain the courage to have self motivation. Sometimes it s really hard to have self motivation because of family, friends, and life in general. For example, when I graduated high school, I moved to Presque Isle to go to school for nursing. Three weeks into my first semester I got engaged, and moved back home. At that point I was a college dropout, and didn t think I could go back to college. Why would anyone wanta student who went to class for three weeks then dropped out? Religion has been a dominant cultural, ethical, and political force throughout human history, both recent and ancient. Religion has been science and asylum for many generations of very many people, uniting them in their common faith. Temples were built for people to pray and perform sacrifice in, giving the people a common cause to live for and thereby creating personal relations between people even before you got to know them. The unique features of ancient religions were that they were all polytheistic, meaning that they recognized many gods, instead of one main one. And the problem with this was that in the ancient history, before the invention of writing, nothing was written down: stories were told verbally, laws were passed on verbally, and writing things down was an incredible task for the ancient people, and gave incredible glory to the people that did it, because if it s written down, it s much easier to spread your beliefs and it s harder to forget specifics of your religion or law. Strategy and tactics[edit] Many of the officers and veteran soldiers of the English Civil War studied and implemented war strategies that had been learned and perfected in other wars across Europe, namely by the Spanish and the Dutch during the Dutch war for independence which began in 1568.[7] The main battle tactic came to be known as pike and shot infantry, in which the two sides would line up, facing each other, with infantry brigades of musketeers in the centre, carrying matchlock muskets; these muskets were inaccurate, but could be lethal at a range of up to 300 yards. The brigades would arrange themselves in lines of musketeers, three deep, where the first row would kneel, the second would crouch, and the third would stand, allowing all three to fire a volley simultaneously.[8] At times there would be two groups of three lines allowing one group to reload while the other group arranged themselves and fired.[9][page needed] Mixed in among the musketeers were pikemen carrying pikes that were between 12 feet (4 m) and 18 feet (5 m) long, whose primary purpose was to protect the musketeers from cavalry charges. • 39. Exploring The Interaction Between Volcanic And... Introduction In order to understand the interaction between volcanic and seismotectonic processes, some meaningful terms have to be comprehended (Zobin, 2012). For instance, a volcano is a vent in the surface of the Earth that has in its internal structure a magma reservoir with gases and in its external structure solidified ejected material (Zobin, 2012). In the matter of its internal structure, it is considered that the gases govern great part of the life of a volcano (Zobin, 2012). Those volcanic gases, also known as volatiles, can explain the dissolution and exsolution processes within the magma stages (Kazahaya et al., 2015). As a consequence, gases are a trigger that can cause a volcanic eruption and, thus, seismic activity (Zobin, 2012). Therefore, correlations between volcanic gas studies and geophysical methods, such as infrasound and seismicity, provide understanding in volcanic phenomena and may predict volcanic eruptions (Kazahaya et al., 2015). Volcanic seismology is the study of the origin of seismic signals related with volcanic processes (Zobin, 2012). The nature of this science rests over the mathematical and physical approach that describes the sources producing seismic waves (Zobin, 2012). Volcanic earthquakes have been used for monitoring and forecasting eruptions (Sigurdsson et al., 2015). They are divided into two groups, which are the volcano tectonic and eruption earthquakes (Zobin, 2012). Those two groups split into four types, which are part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Virgil describes, Dido walked happily with the throng around her, intent on hastening the work for her future realm, telling us that as a Queen, she devoted to her city and loved by her subjects. The wind applies a force which feels as if your face is oozing with thick crimson red blood. The gray puffy clouds covered the sky and dropped small snowflakes onto the road s surface. A man stood there, freezing, clearing the coat of thick white snowfrom the concrete road. His nose runs with a river of snot that floods out when the cold windstrikes. His sense of smell is heavily clogged by the slimy snot, but he can still smell the scent of the steamy hot chocolate which sits on the top of his snow covered car. His feet start to numb because of the cold flood which soaks through his boots to his white, silky socks. His feet feel as if he stepped into the freezing cold ocean. As if he fell through ice and he was stuck standing there. The vast pile of the ice white snow feels almost like a quicksand around his black rubber boot. Foggy figures of people shovel the big piles of snow off the sidewalks. They scrape and pick at the glossy white ice which sticks to the sidewalk like a little boy clinging to his mother s side. His feet still sting as if he was stepping on pins and needles. His hands are damp with sweat from grasping the curved metal shaft attached to a socket which holds the blade. The blade cuts holes into the thick powdered snow which is removed from the endless pile. The jet black shovel is filled with slushy snow and crystal shards of ice. The end of ... • 47. Argumentative Essay On Sex Education Transitioning from childhood to teenage years is already awkward enough for most girls, but the talk is unbearable for some. Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education is the lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can have grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has consequently set the foundation for an orgasminequality, favoring men over women. The nation s incomplete standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them enough about their own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old cisgendered woman named Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman knows herself and her own sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin. Currently in the united states there are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How, and what is taught is left to each of the individual states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of information is being taught to Americans, but it may or not be favorable to the student s well being. It seems rather controversial that local governments, which students can rarely participate in, choose the fate of their sexual health education. It is an unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have had extensive and medically accurate education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. Causes And Treatment Of Lymphatic Filariasis Lymphatic filariasis related to Wuchereria bancrofti INTRODUCITON Seventeen distinct diseases run rampant through developing countries, known as the neglected tropical diseases. They infect an average of 2.7 billion people world wide, but mainly infect those living in poverty stricken countries. These diseases can lead to life long disabilities, disfigurement, and promote poverty. Most of the infected countries live on an average of two U.S. dollars a day with no access to healthcare, making some of the relatively cheap drug therapies unattainable. Even though the neglected tropical diseases infect over two billion people and cause an average of five hundred thousand deaths a year respectively, research and awareness for these diseases are virtually nonexistent. Since these diseases are not found in first world countries with adequate health care, research and funding is not seen as a priority. The neglected tropical diseases are caused by different pathogens. Eight are caused by Helminths, three by protozoa, two by viruses, and the remaining four diseases are caused by bacteria. The most common of the seventeen diseases include: ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm infection, schistosmoiasis, trachoma, onchocerciasis, and lymphatic filariasis.
