Analysis Of The Peace Of Wild Things By Wetndell Berry
The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry is a level three poem of Difficulty. The Peace of
Wild Things by Wendell Berry with its not uncommon language and diction would be a score of
two. The poem has many familar words that help give the meaning and general understanding.
However there are some uncommon words that might prevent the reader from understanding the
meaning fully. For example, words used that might do that are despair, least sound, and wood
drake. If the reader didn t understand that a wood drake is a type of duck, then the understanding
of the next line would be confusing. If the reader didn t know what despair meant, it would make it
confusing when the character started talking about fear, and why they are going to... Show more

When all the stresses of life hit us at one time, we all need a place of quiet to release the stresses.
The theme would be a level 3 because not difficult to find and pick out, but because of the
phrasing the message isn t obvious right away. For example, when the character is talking anout
coming into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. it could
be confusing because the reader would not understand who the wild things are. This could throw
off the theme of peace and nature because the audience might not understand that part of the
charcters peace is being in nature with the wild things . The subject matter, very similar to
theme would be ranked a three also. The author is giving such a broad topic of the wild things ,
and how gives them peace and grace with the world, can be hard to understand the subject in the
poem. The subject of this poem is a person who is stressing about their lives, and they need to get
away. They are looking out upon the water and at peace with everything they see. The subject
matter is not any higher then a three because you can get this subject from phrases like, presence
of still water or grace of the world . Finally, the relatableness of The Peace of Wild Things is score
of two. The audience can easilly relate to going to a place that gives us peace and happiness.
Everyone in this world can relate to stress and there always needs

Shoshanna Hebshi Analysis
Shoshanna Hebshi who is both Jewish and Arab got kicked off of a plane because of how she
looks. There were two other men right next to her that are Indian Americans and were kicked off
of the flight with her, nobody else but those three were kicked off. Passengers of the plane kept
saying that those three were being suspicious and that is why in Detroit they all were kicked off
of the plane. All we know is Hebshi s story about how she was kicked off and stripped searched.
She felt humiliated with everything she had to go through (Warikoo, N., 2103). The reason that
racial profiling still goes on is because people are scared. People are scared of what is different
and not normal to them. The reason that Shoshanna was targeted is because of

Aging And The Aging Process
Aging, it s something that as a species of life on this planet we are predisposed to and its results
are an inevitable factor that effects our bodies in several ways, from cataracts development to the
progression of memory issues from such diseases as Alzheimer s or Huntington s. The concepts of
aging are broken down into two theories widely accepted by several varying fields of studies such
as gerontology, the study of the aging process, and oncology, the study of cancerand tumor
development. The Cellular theory, which focuses solely on the idea that a species and individual
s lifespan and condition in life is based on genetic and cellular factors that predispose us to a
variety of diseases. The second theory is known as Wear and Tear theory which heavily
concentrates on the concepts of external factors in the aging process. The studies behind this theory
focuses on the physical condition of the body and the environmental circumstances that result in the
condition of the body as an individual is aging. The aging process is a unique aspect of life that
attributes to several varieties of diseases and conditions that affect the lifestyle of the individual
both externally and internally.
The concept that is become more appropriate among professional studies within the fields
mentioned prior is a combination of both cellular and physical theories. These studies are
becoming more apparent as the population of 55 to 75 year olds is increasing both nationally
across the United

Identity In The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
F. Scott Fitzgerald created a novel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which explores how
identity can be uttered by the age of a person. Benjamin Button shows how confusion towards his
own identity can be dictated by a unique way of aging backwards and becoming younger as time
exceeds. One s identity and how he or she stereotypically acts primarily depends on that person s
age. Due to his unusual aging condition, Benjamin struggles with his identity throughout his life.
For example, he is able to create mature conversations at a young age of eighteen at the dance
with Hildegarde and play as a five year old without any care in the world when he is
chronologically much older. He must learn to cope with this way of aging and understand how
others may view him in social settings. Benjamin faces many difficult situations in which he... Show

Identity typically changes with age, however he changes very little because he does not have
full awareness of his identity. Age identity refers to the inner most experience of a person s age
and aging process (Jose 2017). Fitzgerald emphasizes Benjamin s loss of consciousness more in
the novel than Fincher does in the film. At a certain point, Benjamin stops struggling to
determine who he is and just essentially waits for time to run out. He would play simply games
with his grandson when they are both around the age of children beginning kindergarten.
Benjamin and his grandson would continue this until he passed away. In contrast, it seems that
Benjamin and his wife fight further to the end in the film, and he passes away with her by his
side. The relationship between Benjamin and Daisy was stronger in the film than in the novel.
His identity is very important to him in the middle of his life when he wants to go to college and
enroll in the war, but towards the end he loses awareness of any self perception he had built and
slips into

Essay On Native American Indian Boarding School
Starting off as a plan to assimilate and educate Native American Children, the boarding school
program resulted in the stripping of culture and native identity. The cultural deprivation process
began in 1860 when the Bureau of Indian Affairs established the first on reservation Indian
boarding school in Washington state. The main goal of both the boarding and day schools was to
assimilate Indian children into the American way of life (American Indian Council).
At the start, the schools were all on reservation, designed to make education affordable and
accessible to as many tribes as possible. This method held hopes of the children spreading
American culture to parents; however, it allowed for Indian culture to seep into the children s lives.

Attending school was required by law; therefore, the Bureau would send police to physically
confiscate children from their homes on reservations. By making attendance mandatory, the
number of savage Indians exponentially decreased. Richard H Pratt said, Kill the Indian, save
the man. This motto led to the hair of Indian boys getting cut, the banning of all tribal food,
children were no allowed to return home and any relics from home were destroyed. Lone Wolf
of the Blackfoot tribe said, Long hair was the pride of all Indians. The boys, one by one, would
break down and cry when they saw their braids thrown on the floor. All of the buckskin clothes
had to go and we had to put on the clothes of the White Man. If we thought the days were bad, the
nights were much worse. This is when the loneliness set in, for it was when we knew that we were
all alone. Many boys ran away from the school because the treatment was so bad, but most of them
were caught and brought back by the police (PBS Telecommunications). If any of the students were
non compliant with the policies, punishment consisted confinement, deprivation of privileges, a
threat of corporal punishment or a restriction of diet (PBS

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an accumulation of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean.
Marine debris is trash that culminates up in oceans, seas, and other sizable voluminous bodies
of dihydrogen monoxide. Its also known as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and the Pacific
Trash Vortex. It s located in a high pressure area between the U.S. states of Hawaii and
California. This area is in the middle of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. For many people, the
conception of a garbage patch displays images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In
reality, these patches are conventionally composed of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics.

In the article, The World s Largest Dump: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it mentioned that the
UNEP indicates that today 80% of all marine debris that washes ashore such as trash and toxic
matter originally comes from shore based activities such as fun parties at the beaches and picnics.
For example the cups that gets blown off the beach in San fransicso then it finds its way to the
patch. The inland, rivers and streams carry trash to the sea. Marah Hardt who is fellow from the
Blue Ocean Institute, mentions that a lot of people are not aware of the negtive impacts they have
on the ocean because they can t see it. They think its far out there while their waste, garbage
disposals, drainpipes, and sewers lead directly to the ocean. Factories dump and Air pollution seeps
are just examples of how the oceans become pulleted. There is another example of garbage patch
that actually exist for example Western Garbage Patch whish is located on the off coast of Japan.
The Eastern Garbage Patch located between California and Hawaii is the most intresting and
attracts the greatest attention because of its size and the fact that it lies closest to the biggest trash

Casino Gambling Controversy
INTRODUCTION
Local legal casino gambling has gained popularity in the United States after a long history of
prohibition in many parts of the country. Casino gambling was outlawed in the early 1900 s
before being legalized in Nevada and the city of Las Vegas in 1931. In 1978, gambling was
legalized in Atlantic City, New Jersey (casinohistory.org). Las Vegas continues to dominate as the
number one casino destination. Atlantic City and New Jersey have taken a hit as completion in
surrounding states increases every year. Pennsylvania surpassed New Jersey as the number two
casino destination in the United States in 2015 (Tisdall 2). Today, 43 states have casinos
(americancasinosguide.com). Since the birth of the Internet, gambling online has grown into a new
industry. Online gambling is continuing to grow to this day and is an industry already worth
billions. Many of the issues in today s society and legislatures have moved away from the issue of
if casinos should be legal towards the issue of should sports gambling be legal on websites such as
draftkings.com and fanduel.com.
Legalized casino gambling is still a very important topic that continues to cause controversy
throughout the states. According to statista.com, the United States casino market had revenues of
approximately 65 billion dollars in 2015. This revenue stemmed from the 1,511 casinos open
throughout the United States (statista.com). The sheer amount of revenue the casino industry
produces each year makes it a

The Iphone 6 And Ipad 6
Introduction For many years, people have been waiting in anticipation for the opportunity to use
mobile payment as the everyday way to pay for merchandise. As of late this anticipation has grown
because on of the largest producers of smartphones are integrated the technology to do so in its
newest phone release the iPhone6 and iPhone 6 plus. Apple has one of the largest market shares of
smartphone users standing at a market share of 41.3% in the three months ending in January
2015 according to Jason Hahn. With this release the mobile payment buzz truly took off. Since
this release many companies had started offering pay stations that allow for this type of payment
method to be accepted. As a result, it is not a surprise to anyone that many of the largest well
known companies such as Visa, MasterCard, AT T, and Verizon have increased their mobile
application presence. Few companies in the world today achieve the success Apple has earned
over the last couple of decades. Apple was founded by co founders Steve Jobsand Steve Wozniak in
1976 in Cupertino, California, in which both men dropped out of Reed College and UC
Berkeley respectively. The year prior, the two men had teamed up to create 50 100 of the first
Apple computers. Since that time, Apple has risen to become one of the most innovative and
successful companies in the world today. In terms of profit, Apple, Inc. enjoys large profits every

Religion And Culture In Where The Gods Fly By Jean Kwork
Where the gods fly
As an immigrant it can be hard to integrate into a new country. There are new rules that you need
to follow, a new culture to fit into and a whole new life to begin. You have to choose between
three different ways of integrating into the new country: firstly, you can fully let go of your old
traditions and become a part of the new culture, secondly you can keep you own traditions and
isolate yourself from the influence from the new country, or lastly, you can mix the two cultures
and take the best parts of them. In the short story Where the gods fly written by Jean Kwork,
religion and culture becomes a huge influence on the decisions a Chinese immigrant mother takes
for her daughter, which I will analyse in the following essay. The essay will include a resume, it will
deal with the story s structure and the use of contrasts.
Where the gods fly is a short story about a Chinese immigrant family that move to New York.
The parents work at a factory in Chinatown and because they do not want to leave their daughter,
Pearl, alone, they sign her up for a ballet class. Pearl becomes extraordinary good at ballet, but
because her mother does not deem ballet as a valid future choice also including the fact that she
deems it too good for them, she has decided to make Pearl quite ballet.
The main structure of the story is not how a typical novel is build up. The short story starts in
media res with a line about how the main character is kneeling in front of the gods. This is
followed by a foreshadowing about a ballet story that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Life Is The Worst
The air was damp and still. Not a single breeze on this seemingly hot as fuck evening in the
middle of August. I close my eyes as I continue down the sidewalk out of the small neighborhood
of shitty apartments, most of which that are left to rot. Not very many people live here, which
is probably my favorite part of this place. No one yelling at the other from their balcony, cursing
while a million little children run about getting bullied and thrown to the ground. It s so quiet.
So quiet and peaceful, it s hard to imagine that town is right around the corner. It s as if even the
outside world s sound had abandoned this place. 5th street is quite the ways down, so I was left
to my own devices. I would love to say that this is my down time. My time to just think and
reflect and all of that, but no. Reflecting on my life is the worst. It makes me cringe to just think
about thinking. I ll remember the worst crap that I do. Like this one time, back when I was just
about, eh, 15? I had this awful just boost of testosterone that made me just want to punch
everything. I was angry at absolutely nothing. I was pacing the house left and right, stomping up
a storm, waking Todd up. One does not, and I repeat not, wake up Todd O. Archibald at 6am in
the morning. Actually, you don t wake up and Doyle at 6am in the morning, regardless of the
reasoning. The world could be crumbling at your feet and they will always be pissed off at you. So,

Difference Between Phonology And Phonemic Awareness
The terms phonological awareness and phonemic awareness are used interchangeably .Phonological
awareness represents a range of manipulation and detection skills across different sizes of sound
pieces. Phonemic awareness, however, specifically refers to the ability to manipulate and detect the
smallest sound pieces in words (the phonemes). It refers to the ability to manipulate the phonemic
structure of an utterance independently from its meaning. It is the awareness that words are
composed of smaller units, that alliteration is when words begin with the same sound segment, and
that rhyming is caused by words ending with the same sound segment. Therefore, it refers to the
auditory task of identifying, distinguishing between, and working with an utterance at the level of
larger units such as words, and syllables, or at the level of smaller units, such as phonemes. It also
includes awareness of speech sounds at all levels including word, syllable, onset rime or phoneme.
Phonemic awareness is an advanced stage of phonological awareness, defined as the ability to
recognize that a spoken word consists of a sequence of phonemes. It is the capacity to isolate word
segments, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phonemic awareness is an understanding of spoken language. Phonological awareness entails
understanding of spoken language and involves tasks such as rhyming words; comparing initial
sounds; determining the number of phonemes in a word; identifying two sections in a compound
word and separating syllables. Phonemic awareness includes tasks of individual phonemes or within
words such as blending, deleting, substituting and moving. Townend (2000) clarifies that
phonological awareness is the accurate perception of all the individual sounds, or phonemes, within
a spoken word. It also includes the perception of relationships between sounds, such as

Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama s Farewell Address
In President Obama s Farewell Address, Obama actively tries to persuade his audience to step up
and make a change; He wants more people to step out of their comfort zone and make something
happen. He persuades his audience by using interesting word choice, connecting with them, and
talking about the future of American democracy. In the beginning of his address, he says, you can
tell I m a lame duck ... By beginning with a lighthearted joke, he puts himself in an amiable light
and makes the audiencemore comfortable with him and more inclined to listen to what he has to
say. He then connects with the audience by saying, Whether we ve seen eye to eye or rarely
agreed at all, my conversations with you, the American people in living rooms and schools; at
farms and in factory floors... Obama says this to show that he took his time to go to those places
to talk to people, which lets the audience knows that he cares and is willing to go out of his way
to sit on factory floors to listen to what people have to say. By starting off his address this way,
he lets the audience know how much he cares, which, in turn, makes the audience care about
what he is about to tell them. Obama soon introduces his claim by saying, This is where I
learned that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come
together to demand it. Here, he is claiming that it is ordinary people people like the audience
who are the ones who are to bring about change. To get the audience more involved, he chooses
to use words such as: we, our, and you. He uses these words to addresses each and every person
in the audience personally and by doing this, he makes them agree with him because they feel
that they are being spoken to directly. In one paragraph of his speech, he says, But that s what
we did. That s what you did. You were the change. You answered people s hopes, and because of
you, by almost every measure, America is a better, stronger place than it was when we started.
Here, he repeats the word you to emphasize the fact that he is addressing each person directly and
that they are the ones who make changes, that they are the ones who make America a better place.
Obama s choice of words is seen not

Malcolm X Pilgrimage To America
On April 13, 1964, Malcolm X left America for the holy Pilgrimage in Mecca, a pilgrimage that
must be made by every able bodied Muslim. He landed in the Jeddah airport and noticed, Throngs

coming together with no racial or social prejudice. He compared his spiritual effect as if had just

he saw in America. As he entered he abandoned his spiffy black suit for the white ihram (a two

would be worn by all pilgrims and Malcolm Xpoints out that, You could be a king or a peasant

He called for a united America in the union and collaboration of all races and people who

Descriptive Essay On The Green Tree
A Visit
He pointed to the grove of trees beyond the dirt road. That s where your grandmother is from.
Well, where exactly? That one green tree or the green tree? She cracked a smile.
It all looked the same to her. The muddy people, the dirt roads and the sea of green. A cow passed
by on the dirt road, it s tail swishes back and forth like the orange glow of a cigarette. He didn t
know how to tell her that he didn t know, letting pride sit in place of false memories. They are
going to kill the cow today. The air is thick with muggy anticipation, her cousins gleeful looks
accompanied with the dog s bark. A stranger sat on the stoop, she was told it was her uncle. Why?
She doesn t know what he looks like anymore, a black shapeless form in place of a man.

Maybe, if we crawl closer, we can get a better look. Back hunched, he would stare out into the well.
No, please. She can taste ash, see the cow eyes widen in fear and it s sinking into her chess. Why
are you crying? It s not useful anymore. It doesn t make any more milk. The ring of a phone
interrupts their daydreams. The hospital has forty beds aligned in one room. He s turned into a
shade of yellow.
Did you know that he has a son?
No, dad, I didn t.
He has polio.
Oh, that still exists?

The enlightened teacher and founder of Buddhism, Gautama Buddha, taught that your work is to

Brahma, the Buddha might never have become one of the most influential figures in history today.
Likewise, some students may have never lived up to their fullest potential without the guidance of
their teachers. The high school years are a crucial time for people to discover who they are and

Animal welfare officers make on average $23.90/hr in Canada, although this depends on location

The Effectiveness Of A Connection
The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more prevalent,
intricate, and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A viewer must experience
a work of art and connect to it in order for it to be considered effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be
considered a work of art because of its ability to connect to an audience. Sophoclesplay follows a
warrior named Ajax who was threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was
rightfully his, which causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in
a state where he slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies. Ajax later
becomes distraught to the point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a version of Ajax to relate to
veterans through his company, Theater of War. This company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize
psychological injury, increase awareness of post deployment psychological health issues,
disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family community, and
troop resilience through the performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian
communities (Outside the Wire). Because of this purpose, the audience is able to form an intense
connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of art. While looking at Aristotle s Theory of Tragedy
and the six most important features of a tragedy, it becomes apparent that connection through all six
features is the only way to create effective art.

Addiction In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
In the short story The Black Cat Edgar Allan Poe writes how the addiction of alcohol can
severely affect one self s psychological health and destroy one s life. Poe begins the story in
America, where a former animal lover turns into a psychopath since he is addicted to alcohol
drinking. The first complication in the story is when the narrator starts drinking a lot and changes
in character. The narrator s drinking caused the narrator start abuse his pet animals and become
violent as well as aggressive. In the second complication, the narrator attacked his black cat, Pluto,

Wizard Of Oz Effects
The 1920 s and 1930 s were a time of distress. After the significant stock market crash in 1929,
America began to collapse, causing the nation to suffer greatly. Allowing people to escape from
the harsh, real world, movies and films gained popularity. One of the most notable aspects of the
television was the transformation from black and white to colored television, which was iconic
for people living in America. THESIS Movies such as The Wizard of Oz focused on bright eye
catching colors to excite the audience. The Wizard of Oz sparked an enduring effect on many
films after, such as Under the Rainbow, Wild at Heart, The Wiz, and Road to Oz. The universal
message of The Wizard of Oz is that home can be the best place to solve problems. At the end of
the movie, Dorothy claims that she has everything she needs at home. My heart s desire is in my
own backyard (Baum). Here, Dorothy is stating that home provides a sense of hope. During the
depression, this was especially important because people needed to know that there was a better
life ahead of the financial crisis that the US was facing. This filmgave people the hope they were
desperately looking for.

A Better Way Of Life
A Better Way of Life Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world.
Everyday people die from alcoholism, families are split, children and wives are abused, jobs are
lost and good people seem more and more hopeless. According to Mayoclinic.org, an online medical
dictionary, alcoholismcan be described as a pattern of heavy drinking which involves trouble of
controlling the intake of alcohol, still drinking after problems flourish that are caused by our
drinking, having to drink more and more every time to get to the same buzz and having alcohol
withdrawals when you stop or drink less. These are symptoms of a life threatening disease.
Many might say that alcoholism is mind state and could simply be dominated with a strong will
power, this is not the case. A true alcoholic cannot stop drinking on his own and live a happy and
normal life. Alcohol takes control of the mind , the body and the spirit, quitting seems nearly
impossible. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence,
(NCADD), this year in the United states it was calculated that around 17.6 Million people drink
alcohol in an abusive way. It also mentions that 88,000 deaths are due an excessive use of alcohol
and 40% of patients in hospitals are being treated for conditions caused by a heavy drinking
lifestyle. It is clear and evident that there is a huge problem, a problem that is ignored by many
who do not see this disease as dangerous as it really is.

What Are Propaganda Techniques Used In The Diary Of Anne...
The Holocaust: In Memory of Millions During the Holocaust, Hitler and the Nazis used
propaganda posters to persue the German people to support their actions. I believe that the
reason they supported their actions is because propaganda persuade large numbers of people
about the truth of an idea, the value of a product, or the appropriateness of an attitude. But the
poster they had said that Hitler needs you to come support him and he used different types of
propaganda techniques. I do believe that there is a similar tragedy that is happening in the
world today. For example, when Isis attacked Paris, the attack was on November 13, 2015. The
attackers killed 130 people, they took hostages to the Bataclan theatre before engaging in a stand
off with police. Another 368 people were injured and 80 99 were seriously injured. I think that I
would fall for Hitler s youth program because if I had never learned about propaganda techniques

What They Haven T Told You About Climate Change Summary
In his video What They Haven t Told You about Climate Change for conservative media
organization Prager University, environmentalist and former President of Greenpeace Canada
Patrick Moore expresses his skepticism of humans being a major cause of climate change. While it
is true that humans have not been the sole contributors to climate change, Moore significantly
downplays the impact that humans have had on the climate. The overwhelming, international, peer
reviewed scientific consensus is that recent human activity has caused an unprecedented increase in
global warming( Climate Change: How do we know? ). Moore s characterization of humanity s
impact on climate change omits important data and research to spin a misleading narrative on
climate change. Moore begins his argument by stating that global temperature has fluctuated
upwards and downwards in the past two thousand years, claiming that the Medieval Warm Period
was at least as warm, if not warmer than today. This characterization of the Medieval Warm... Show

Therefore, it is important to examine Moore s environmental experience and motives in making
such claims. Moore attempts to ground his credibility by marketing himself as the co founder of

is true that Patrick Moore was a member of Greenpeace in the 1970s, in 1986 he abruptly turned
his back on the very issues he once passionately defended. , he has since gone from defender of
the planet to a paid representative of corporate polluters. ( Greenpeace Statement on Patrick

To advance to this level of management, the healthcare administrator must show evidence of
professional skills and judgment through performance of key competencies in being a leader.
Healthcare administrators must first be comfortable and confident in managing themselves in order
to be an effective leader. Teammembers will align their trust with an administrator who leads by
example. Important skills to manage include: their time with tasks and people, their responsiveness
and follow through on the challenges, their capability to be relational and motivational with a
positive presence, and the ability to recognize and validate the team members contributions to the
overall organizations goals and values. The healthcare administrator needs to continuously stay on

The use of darkness and shadowing conveys a sense of mystery and of the unknown, altogether
foreshadowing events to come. Jim is displayed under a shadow and his mother is in the
sunlight next to the house. Wyeth designed this image to show that Jim is about to go on a
mysterious journey, and his mother is going to stay where she is. Jim states, I said goodbye to
mother and the cove where I had lived since I was born, and the dear old Admiral Benbow since
he was repainted, no longer quite so dear, (57). Jim is walking away from everything that he has
ever known and starting his new life as an adult. Jim s house and his mother are illuminated by
the light to show that they are going to stay in a safe, known place; meanwhile, the darker figures,
like Jim, are heading to an unknown destination. The use of darkness shows that Jim has a dark
path ahead of him. Normally, darkness is associated with evil and corruption, which is fitting for
Jim s path. The use of darkness can foreshadow later in the novel to when Jim kills Israel Hands.
Ultimately, when Jim kills a man this shows how he became corrupt along his adventure. When Jim
killed Hands, this showed his transition from innocence to corruption, which can also be viewed as
his maturation to an adult. All transitions can mature us in both good and detrimental ways this

The Debate On Immigration Reform
Abstract: Until the bill passed, much of the debate surrounding the Development, Relief, and
Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM Act, brought about legal, ethical, and logistical concerns.
Illegal immigration and the population unauthorized alien in the United States were key issues in
the ongoing debate on immigrationreform. However, the benefits of this bill outweighed its
disadvantages. Immigration policies in the United States concerning undocumented workers are
strict and direct. Employers are not allowed to employ illegal or undocumented immigrants. The
DREAM Act which was enacted by the Obama administration s announcement of deferred
action for deportation of undocumented youths provides alternates. Under the provision of this
law, a person is eligible for citizenship if they came to the United states at age 15 or younger, are
currently 35 or younger, have been resent in the country for at least five years, completed high
school, and completed at least two years of higher education or honorably served in the armed
forces for at least two years (Guzman Jara, 2012). The advantages of Dream Act as well as its
disadvantages on the US economy would be analyzed. Future analysis and other immigrant working
situations would also be evaluated.

nineteenth century. The Unites States law provides employers with several limited ways of

Catalysts for American Revolution
Nick Cuccaro U.S History 1 Liberty! The American Revolution Quiz October 9th, 2012 The
American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, was a war that had raged on for eight
years stemming from major political differences of opinion. Though, the fighting and the discontent
between the two opposing forces, Americans and British, had been developing for years before the
first shots ever had gone off to start the revolution. The reasoning for the tension between the two is
traced back to one of the main catalysts being the Stamp Act that was imposed on New England
colonies, then to one of the last being The Boston Tea Party that ended with British war ships being
sent to Boston with attempts to keep in under control. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, Parliament began issuing several Acts upon the American Colonies of which
they could do next to nothing about due to Britain simply stating it was for the good of the
Empire. Acts that they had issues were ones such as the Quartering Act of 1766, which required
the colonists to house British soldiers at their own expense. They also put forth the Townshend
Acts that would tax all imports into the colonies. After the Stamp Act, and then Declaratory Act,
which had been a scary thing to them colonists as it had also been used in Ireland, the colonists
started to rebel against the British. They felt that they could be a worthy rival to Great Britain,
as Great Britain had been exporting only finished goods while the colonies were exporting the
raw materials needed to produce many of these goods. Since a huge majority of the goods were
imported from Britain, many felt that they should boycott all of British made items. George
Washington agreed on this and stated that he believes and hoped that the boycott will work, but
for it to work all of the people in the colonies must mobilize and participate in the boycott. There
was also the situation of Thomas Hutchinson, who was for more or less, an English spy, as he
resided within the colonies and followed and trusted in English law. He had written several

The Impact Of Maritime Technology On The Age Of Exploration
Maritime Technology s Aid in the Age of Exploration The innovation of maritime technology has
revolutionized travel throughout history. Prior to ships and sea travel, humans were separated
by vast oceans and confined to their homeland for life. Because of these large boundaries,
discoveries and inventions were only shared within land masses and trade as a whole was very
limited. This uncharted, inaccessible territory caused a major separation of mankind. However,
these oceans sparked curiosity and desire for explorers to venture beyond their native land. This
curiosity was the driving force to the invention of naval travel, a highly important and massive
step for all growing communities during the Age of Exploration. Maritime technology s
advancements through history greatly aided in the Age of Exploration, allowing provinces to
break their land boundaries and make monumental steps towards the advanced world humans
populate today. People living the the 15th century had multiple reasons for venturing beyond its
confinement of land. Scientific curiosity of the world played a major part in the advancement of
naval travel, but it was not the main cause of exploration in these times. The Age of Exploration
was sparked by Europeans wanting to find sea routes to East Asia, which they called the Indies.
Merchants and crusaders were bringing goods to Europe from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
These trade routes were controlled by the Muslims and the Italians. However, flaws

What is Media Use, anyway?
Interacting with anything that has a screen is termed as the use of media. There are several
advantages and disadvantages of its usage. Parents usually define media consumption as useless.
However, it totally depends on the user how he/she uses it effectively. Electronic media plays a
significant role in children s academics as well. Parents fail to get the fact that digital learning is
equally important for a child s educational experience.

Media Consumption: To consume media passively without contributing.
Media Creation: To produce and distribute in a way that needs active participation and problem

of your grandparents? That s where this assignment comes in.

What It Means To Be A Writer
In the actual sense of the word to be a writer would mean anyone who has ever written before.
Although I do not believe that definition is a true representation of the word. A writer is much
more than that. To me, a writer is someone who writes for fun. Which could also be done
professionally if they have a passion for writing. This writing could be of any genre. It could range
from research to fiction. Also, the end result does not need to be anything significant. To be a writer
you do not need to have published works. Writing in a journal, in my mind, would qualify you to
carry the persona of a writer. The writing does not necessarily need to be long either. It could be as
simple as a three lined poem, or as complicated as a textbook or novel.... Show more content on

At one time in my life, the answer would have been yes. I loved writing growing up. I kept a
journal and I wrote poetry. I can remember writing fictional stories about ghosts with my friends
in first grade. I truly did enjoy it. As I grew up though the number of papers on the most
uninteresting topics presented itself, and my love for writing dwindled. The public school system
fed my passion for writing, but they also destroyed it in the process. Hopefully one day my love
for writing can be resurrected, but I do not see that happening anytime

Same Day Cancellations Essay
Cancellation of same day surgeries on the day of surgery in Australian hospitals was a major
issue. The cancellations of the same day surgeries was not a good use of operating rooms, time
and staff. Not only are cancellations a waste of hospital resources and staff, it is a significant
inconvenience to patients and their families. The cancellations were such a problem it made the
headlines of the Sydney Morning Herald. The Herald obtained data from the public records of The
New South Wales Health (NSW), this is the ministry responsible for overseeing the NSW health
system, reveal that for four years hospitals have consistently failed to meet the 2% benchmark on
same day cancellations (Wallace, 2011). Same day surgeries were consistently... Show more content

The biggest problem the Australian Hospital faced was a lack of beds despite the federal government
s $600 million elective surgery blitz in 2009 and 2010 (Wallace, 2011). The NSW planned an
additional 400 beds, which still would not be adequate for the estimated 9,000 patients that
would have their surgeries canceled. According to Owler, It comes down to beds ... we do need
to have a certain number of beds, particularly in places like Westmead and Nepean, where
demand is high. It s unusual for us to cancel patients because we ve run out of time. Another 1450
beds were needed to address the problem (Wallace, 2011). While adding more beds would help it
will not solve the cancellation problems unless the other major factors were addressed.
The data from the surgery dashboard showed the only time the benchmark for same day
cancellations was met was when it was set at 5 % in early 2007 (Wallace, 2011). The benchmark
was changed to 2 % in March 2007. Deputy Smyth was satisfied with a 4 5% rate because all the
other Australian hospitals performed at that rate. Concerning, the benchmark, I think complacency
contributed more to the health system not reaching their goal than bias. Perhaps, the deputy needed
a better understanding of benchmarking. The goal of benchmarking is not

Media Violence And Stereotypes
Children who are exposed to various types of violence from a young age are more likely to initiate
and behave aggressively towards others. Kids may also take part in aggressive behavior if they feel
they identify themselves with hostile characters in the media. A study conducted on youth
investigated the relationship between prolonged displays towards media violenceand identification
with fictional characters (Mrug, Madan, Cook, Wright, 2015). The results concluded that with
increased exposure to high action movie scenes, there was a greater identification with the fictional
characters presented. A 1999 school shooting, at Columbine High School in Colorado, involved
two teenage boys whose lives revolved around the obsession of violent imagery

Since I was about 6 years old I have been exposed to shooting firearms, within my family it wasn t
uncommon to have a weekend day set aside to go to the rifle range and shoot our old tin cans

basically antique, single shot bolt action 22LR all the way up to high powered huntingrifles, Ar 15 s
and AR 10 s. The day after I turned 18 I went out and purchased a tactical Mossberg 500 shotgun.

World Religions Report on Buddhism Religions of the World
Buddhism is a practical philosophy aimed at awakening people to the limitless potential and value
of their own lives. Practicing Buddhism brings about a positive transformation in the depths of an
individual s life, transforming fear into courage, deluded impulses into wisdom and egotism into
compassion.
Buddhism begins with individuals deciding to take responsibility for their own lives, first reforming
themselves and taking action to improve their immediate surroundings and relations, and then
gradually extending their wisdom, courage and compassion into a wider sphere.

Customs and Curtiousies
CUSTOMS COURTIOUSY
Marine customs are simply desirable courses of action sanctioned by tradition and usage. In the
Marine Corps, practically every custom has grown out of the manner in which Marines of the past
conducted themselves. Many Marine customs have been incorporated into regulations in order to
standardize conduct throughout the Corps, but some of them cannot be found in written directives.
Knowing and observing these customs, both written and unwritten, is important to each Marine
because it keeps him mindful of the heritage and traditions of his Corps, and of his duty to uphold
them. In addition, it makes him feel that he is a part of the team and helps to create the strong bond

The celebration involves the reading of an excerpt from the Marine Corps Manual and a birthday
message from the Commandant; the cutting of a birthday cake by the commanding officer; and the
presentation of the first and second pieces of cake to the oldest and youngest Marines present.
Recently, the ceremony for the observance of the Marine Corps Birthday by large posts and stations
has been incorporated into written directives.
Nautical Terms. Many of the Marine Corps customs are derived from the many years of service
afloat. Even ashore Marines customarily use nautical terms. Floors are decks, walls are
bulkheads, ceilings, overheads, corridors, passageways. The order Gangway! is used to clear the
way for an officer ashore, just as it is afloat. Among other terms in common usage are: two block to
tighten or center (as a necktie); square away to correctly arrange articles or to take in hand and
direct an individual; head a bathroom; scuttle but a drinking fountain, also an unconfirmed rumor.
In the Marine Corps, the nautical expression Aye, Aye, Sir is used when acknowledging a verbal
order. Yes, Sir and No, Sir are used in answer to direct questions. Aye, Aye, Sir is not used in answer
to questions as this expression is reserved solely for

The Importance Of Confederate Monuments
Confederate Monuments continue to be a hot topic of debate of whether they should be removed
or remain in public places. Throughout history the idea of removing the Confederate Monuments
is the popular choice among decision makers, citing that the monuments have a sense of evilness
consequently flaring up racial emotions. Strong points are continuously being made for the
removal of Confederate Monuments, however the Confederate monuments should remain in
public places because they honor timeless virtues, the monuments would provide an opportunity
to reflect upon our nation s past as well as an opportunity to educate future generations.
Confederate Monuments began to erect across the nation well after the civil war between the
1890 s and 1950 s. There seems to be a correlation of when these monuments began to pop up and
the era of the Jim Crow Segregation. The highest spike of monuments being built were between
the 1900 s and 1920 s. These monuments were meant to be a teaching point of values to people
rather than being a symbol of hate as many people took them to be. According to Mark Elliot,
professor at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro; The values to which these monuments
stood for included a glorification of the cause of the civil war. Due to the timeless virtues of the
men they portray whether it s Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, or any other confederate war
heroes, the Confederate Monuments should remain in public places. Their image is typically

  • 2. Analysis Of The Peace Of Wild Things By Wetndell Berry The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry is a level three poem of Difficulty. The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry with its not uncommon language and diction would be a score of two. The poem has many familar words that help give the meaning and general understanding. However there are some uncommon words that might prevent the reader from understanding the meaning fully. For example, words used that might do that are despair, least sound, and wood drake. If the reader didn t understand that a wood drake is a type of duck, then the understanding of the next line would be confusing. If the reader didn t know what despair meant, it would make it confusing when the character started talking about fear, and why they are going to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When all the stresses of life hit us at one time, we all need a place of quiet to release the stresses. The theme would be a level 3 because not difficult to find and pick out, but because of the phrasing the message isn t obvious right away. For example, when the character is talking anout coming into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. it could be confusing because the reader would not understand who the wild things are. This could throw off the theme of peace and nature because the audience might not understand that part of the charcters peace is being in nature with the wild things . The subject matter, very similar to theme would be ranked a three also. The author is giving such a broad topic of the wild things , and how gives them peace and grace with the world, can be hard to understand the subject in the poem. The subject of this poem is a person who is stressing about their lives, and they need to get away. They are looking out upon the water and at peace with everything they see. The subject matter is not any higher then a three because you can get this subject from phrases like, presence of still water or grace of the world . Finally, the relatableness of The Peace of Wild Things is score of two. The audience can easilly relate to going to a place that gives us peace and happiness. Everyone in this world can relate to stress and there always needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were two other men right next to her that are Indian Americans and were kicked off of the flight with her, nobody else but those three were kicked off. Passengers of the plane kept saying that those three were being suspicious and that is why in Detroit they all were kicked off of the plane. All we know is Hebshi s story about how she was kicked off and stripped searched. She felt humiliated with everything she had to go through (Warikoo, N., 2103). The reason that racial profiling still goes on is because people are scared. People are scared of what is different and not normal to them. The reason that Shoshanna was targeted is because of ... • 4. Aging And The Aging Process Aging, it s something that as a species of life on this planet we are predisposed to and its results are an inevitable factor that effects our bodies in several ways, from cataracts development to the progression of memory issues from such diseases as Alzheimer s or Huntington s. The concepts of aging are broken down into two theories widely accepted by several varying fields of studies such as gerontology, the study of the aging process, and oncology, the study of cancerand tumor development. The Cellular theory, which focuses solely on the idea that a species and individual s lifespan and condition in life is based on genetic and cellular factors that predispose us to a variety of diseases. The second theory is known as Wear and Tear theory which heavily concentrates on the concepts of external factors in the aging process. The studies behind this theory focuses on the physical condition of the body and the environmental circumstances that result in the condition of the body as an individual is aging. The aging process is a unique aspect of life that attributes to several varieties of diseases and conditions that affect the lifestyle of the individual both externally and internally. The concept that is become more appropriate among professional studies within the fields mentioned prior is a combination of both cellular and physical theories. These studies are becoming more apparent as the population of 55 to 75 year olds is increasing both nationally across the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Identity In The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button F. Scott Fitzgerald created a novel, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which explores how identity can be uttered by the age of a person. Benjamin Button shows how confusion towards his own identity can be dictated by a unique way of aging backwards and becoming younger as time exceeds. One s identity and how he or she stereotypically acts primarily depends on that person s age. Due to his unusual aging condition, Benjamin struggles with his identity throughout his life. For example, he is able to create mature conversations at a young age of eighteen at the dance with Hildegarde and play as a five year old without any care in the world when he is chronologically much older. He must learn to cope with this way of aging and understand how others may view him in social settings. Benjamin faces many difficult situations in which he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identity typically changes with age, however he changes very little because he does not have full awareness of his identity. Age identity refers to the inner most experience of a person s age and aging process (Jose 2017). Fitzgerald emphasizes Benjamin s loss of consciousness more in the novel than Fincher does in the film. At a certain point, Benjamin stops struggling to determine who he is and just essentially waits for time to run out. He would play simply games with his grandson when they are both around the age of children beginning kindergarten. Benjamin and his grandson would continue this until he passed away. In contrast, it seems that Benjamin and his wife fight further to the end in the film, and he passes away with her by his side. The relationship between Benjamin and Daisy was stronger in the film than in the novel. His identity is very important to him in the middle of his life when he wants to go to college and enroll in the war, but towards the end he loses awareness of any self perception he had built and slips into ... • 6. Essay On Native American Indian Boarding School Starting off as a plan to assimilate and educate Native American Children, the boarding school program resulted in the stripping of culture and native identity. The cultural deprivation process began in 1860 when the Bureau of Indian Affairs established the first on reservation Indian boarding school in Washington state. The main goal of both the boarding and day schools was to assimilate Indian children into the American way of life (American Indian Council). At the start, the schools were all on reservation, designed to make education affordable and accessible to as many tribes as possible. This method held hopes of the children spreading American culture to parents; however, it allowed for Indian culture to seep into the children s lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attending school was required by law; therefore, the Bureau would send police to physically confiscate children from their homes on reservations. By making attendance mandatory, the number of savage Indians exponentially decreased. Richard H Pratt said, Kill the Indian, save the man. This motto led to the hair of Indian boys getting cut, the banning of all tribal food, children were no allowed to return home and any relics from home were destroyed. Lone Wolf of the Blackfoot tribe said, Long hair was the pride of all Indians. The boys, one by one, would break down and cry when they saw their braids thrown on the floor. All of the buckskin clothes had to go and we had to put on the clothes of the White Man. If we thought the days were bad, the nights were much worse. This is when the loneliness set in, for it was when we knew that we were all alone. Many boys ran away from the school because the treatment was so bad, but most of them were caught and brought back by the police (PBS Telecommunications). If any of the students were non compliant with the policies, punishment consisted confinement, deprivation of privileges, a threat of corporal punishment or a restriction of diet (PBS ... Marine debris is trash that culminates up in oceans, seas, and other sizable voluminous bodies of dihydrogen monoxide. Its also known as the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch and the Pacific Trash Vortex. It s located in a high pressure area between the U.S. states of Hawaii and California. This area is in the middle of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. For many people, the conception of a garbage patch displays images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In reality, these patches are conventionally composed of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics. Microplastics that make up the majority of garbage patches can t always be visible.... • 8. Casino Gambling Controversy INTRODUCTION Local legal casino gambling has gained popularity in the United States after a long history of prohibition in many parts of the country. Casino gambling was outlawed in the early 1900 s before being legalized in Nevada and the city of Las Vegas in 1931. In 1978, gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, New Jersey (casinohistory.org). Las Vegas continues to dominate as the number one casino destination. Atlantic City and New Jersey have taken a hit as completion in surrounding states increases every year. Pennsylvania surpassed New Jersey as the number two casino destination in the United States in 2015 (Tisdall 2). Today, 43 states have casinos (americancasinosguide.com). Since the birth of the Internet, gambling online has grown into a new industry. Online gambling is continuing to grow to this day and is an industry already worth billions. Many of the issues in today s society and legislatures have moved away from the issue of if casinos should be legal towards the issue of should sports gambling be legal on websites such as draftkings.com and fanduel.com. Legalized casino gambling is still a very important topic that continues to cause controversy throughout the states. According to statista.com, the United States casino market had revenues of approximately 65 billion dollars in 2015. This revenue stemmed from the 1,511 casinos open throughout the United States (statista.com). The sheer amount of revenue the casino industry produces each year makes it a ... As of late this anticipation has grown because on of the largest producers of smartphones are integrated the technology to do so in its newest phone release the iPhone6 and iPhone 6 plus. Apple has one of the largest market shares of smartphone users standing at a market share of 41.3% in the three months ending in January 2015 according to Jason Hahn. With this release the mobile payment buzz truly took off. Since this release many companies had started offering pay stations that allow for this type of payment method to be accepted. As a result, it is not a surprise to anyone that many of the largest well known companies such as Visa, MasterCard, AT T, and Verizon have increased their mobile application presence. Few companies in the world today achieve the success Apple has earned over the last couple of decades. Apple was founded by co founders Steve Jobsand Steve Wozniak in 1976 in Cupertino, California, in which both men dropped out of Reed College and UC Berkeley respectively. The year prior, the two men had teamed up to create 50 100 of the first Apple computers. • 10. Religion And Culture In Where The Gods Fly By Jean Kwork Where the gods fly As an immigrant it can be hard to integrate into a new country. There are new rules that you need to follow, a new culture to fit into and a whole new life to begin. You have to choose between three different ways of integrating into the new country: firstly, you can fully let go of your old traditions and become a part of the new culture, secondly you can keep you own traditions and isolate yourself from the influence from the new country, or lastly, you can mix the two cultures and take the best parts of them. In the short story Where the gods fly written by Jean Kwork, religion and culture becomes a huge influence on the decisions a Chinese immigrant mother takes for her daughter, which I will analyse in the following essay. The essay will include a resume, it will deal with the story s structure and the use of contrasts. Where the gods fly is a short story about a Chinese immigrant family that move to New York. The parents work at a factory in Chinatown and because they do not want to leave their daughter, Pearl, alone, they sign her up for a ballet class. Pearl becomes extraordinary good at ballet, but because her mother does not deem ballet as a valid future choice also including the fact that she deems it too good for them, she has decided to make Pearl quite ballet. The main structure of the story is not how a typical novel is build up. The short story starts in media res with a line about how the main character is kneeling in front of the gods. This is followed by a foreshadowing about a ballet story that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I close my eyes as I continue down the sidewalk out of the small neighborhood of shitty apartments, most of which that are left to rot. Not very many people live here, which is probably my favorite part of this place. No one yelling at the other from their balcony, cursing while a million little children run about getting bullied and thrown to the ground. It s so quiet. So quiet and peaceful, it s hard to imagine that town is right around the corner. It s as if even the outside world s sound had abandoned this place. 5th street is quite the ways down, so I was left to my own devices. I would love to say that this is my down time. My time to just think and reflect and all of that, but no. Reflecting on my life is the worst. It makes me cringe to just think about thinking. I ll remember the worst crap that I do. Like this one time, back when I was just about, eh, 15? I had this awful just boost of testosterone that made me just want to punch everything. I was angry at absolutely nothing. • 12. Difference Between Phonology And Phonemic Awareness The terms phonological awareness and phonemic awareness are used interchangeably .Phonological awareness represents a range of manipulation and detection skills across different sizes of sound pieces. Phonemic awareness, however, specifically refers to the ability to manipulate and detect the smallest sound pieces in words (the phonemes). It refers to the ability to manipulate the phonemic structure of an utterance independently from its meaning. It is the awareness that words are composed of smaller units, that alliteration is when words begin with the same sound segment, and that rhyming is caused by words ending with the same sound segment. Therefore, it refers to the auditory task of identifying, distinguishing between, and working with an utterance at the level of larger units such as words, and syllables, or at the level of smaller units, such as phonemes. It also includes awareness of speech sounds at all levels including word, syllable, onset rime or phoneme. Phonemic awareness is an advanced stage of phonological awareness, defined as the ability to recognize that a spoken word consists of a sequence of phonemes. It is the capacity to isolate word segments, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Phonemic awareness is an understanding of spoken language. • 13. Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama s Farewell Address In President Obama s Farewell Address, Obama actively tries to persuade his audience to step up and make a change; He wants more people to step out of their comfort zone and make something happen. He persuades his audience by using interesting word choice, connecting with them, and talking about the future of American democracy. In the beginning of his address, he says, you can tell I m a lame duck ... By beginning with a lighthearted joke, he puts himself in an amiable light and makes the audiencemore comfortable with him and more inclined to listen to what he has to say. He then connects with the audience by saying, Whether we ve seen eye to eye or rarely agreed at all, my conversations with you, the American people in living rooms and schools; at farms and in factory floors... Obama says this to show that he took his time to go to those places to talk to people, which lets the audience knows that he cares and is willing to go out of his way to sit on factory floors to listen to what people have to say. By starting off his address this way, he lets the audience know how much he cares, which, in turn, makes the audience care about what he is about to tell them. Obama soon introduces his claim by saying, This is where I learned that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to demand it. Here, he is claiming that it is ordinary people people like the audience who are the ones who are to bring about change. To get the audience more involved, he chooses to use words such as: we, our, and you. He uses these words to addresses each and every person in the audience personally and by doing this, he makes them agree with him because they feel that they are being spoken to directly. In one paragraph of his speech, he says, But that s what we did. That s what you did. You were the change. You answered people s hopes, and because of you, by almost every measure, America is a better, stronger place than it was when we started. Here, he repeats the word you to emphasize the fact that he is addressing each person directly and that they are the ones who make changes, that they are the ones who make America a better place. That one green tree or the green tree? She cracked a smile. It all looked the same to her. The muddy people, the dirt roads and the sea of green. The main character, Matthew Thorson was suddenly announced as the representative of Thor, the god, to save the world from a serpent: Our champion is Matthew Thorsen (Armstrong 61). Being the youngest of the family and one that was the least gifted, he doubts himself by thinking, They ve made a mistake. They ve made a really, really big mistake (65). • 20. The Effectiveness Of A Connection The Effectiveness of a Connection in Relation to a Tragedy As art becomes more prevalent, intricate, and sophisticated in culture so does its impact on a viewer. A viewer must experience a work of art and connect to it in order for it to be considered effective. Ajax by Sophocles can be considered a work of art because of its ability to connect to an audience. Sophoclesplay follows a warrior named Ajax who was threatening to kill Odysseus to obtain the armor he believed was rightfully his, which causes the goddess Athena to cast a curse leaving him blind with rage and in a state where he slaughters hordes of animals believing that they are his enemies. Ajax later becomes distraught to the point of suicide. Bryan Doerries produced a version of Ajax to relate to veterans through his company, Theater of War. This company s specific purpose is to de stigmatize psychological injury, increase awareness of post deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family community, and troop resilience through the performance of Ancient Greek plays to military and civilian communities (Outside the Wire). Because of this purpose, the audience is able to form an intense connection with Ajax and fulfill the purpose of art. While looking at Aristotle s Theory of Tragedy and the six most important features of a tragedy, it becomes apparent that connection through all six features is the only way to create effective art. ... The biggest problem the Australian Hospital faced was a lack of beds despite the federal government s $600 million elective surgery blitz in 2009 and 2010 (Wallace, 2011). The NSW planned an additional 400 beds, which still would not be adequate for the estimated 9,000 patients that would have their surgeries canceled. According to Owler, It comes down to beds ... we do need to have a certain number of beds, particularly in places like Westmead and Nepean, where demand is high. It s unusual for us to cancel patients because we ve run out of time. Another 1450 beds were needed to address the problem (Wallace, 2011). While adding more beds would help it will not solve the cancellation problems unless the other major factors were addressed. The data from the surgery dashboard showed the only time the benchmark for same day cancellations was met was when it was set at 5 % in early 2007 (Wallace, 2011). The benchmark was changed to 2 % in March 2007. Deputy Smyth was satisfied with a 4 5% rate because all the other Australian hospitals performed at that rate.
