Reflective Research Paper
Reflective Research Paper
I have connected the reflective research paper to objective # 1 because it made me examine my
personal belief and attitude on gender equity issues. I did not realize that gender equity existed at the
level that it does until researching the topic. Doing the research made me realize that the way we teach
directly affects how children learn in every aspect.
Gender inequities in the fields of math and science are well researched and the results are shocking.
Women compromise 45% of the work force, they hold jobs concentrated in clerical, service, and
professional fields such as teaching and nursing, rather than in mathematics, science, or engineering
(Levin Matthews, 1997). Gender inequities start in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With girls, teachers reprimand for calling out answers, call on somebody else if they do not know the
answer, give them more straight forward questions, and praise them for the appearance of their work.
Teachers need to challenge girls in the same manner they challenge boys.
Language is another barrier teachers need to break in order to prevent gender bias. Language can build
a wall that will deter girls from continuing their math and science education. Text and teachers often
refer to a third party as he . When he is stated your mind automatically pictures a man. When speaking
about professionals, engineers or scientists, you re limiting professions to girls by always labeling
with he . Something as simple as phrasing can result in a bias in the classroom.
Using role models in the classroom can provide gender equity issues. Recently textbook publishers
tried to make textbooks less gender bias by including more women. In the 1997 article, Levin and
Matthews stated that even though there are chapters or boxes labeled Famous Women Scientists,
students are still left with a fragmented world view that males are the main story and women are a
sideshow, confined to a brief insert, anecdote, or biographical summary. However, if teachers can
provide female role models of scientists, or engineers for the students they will be more likely to

Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round The World Analysis
An analysis of Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE First of all, Ferdinand
Magellan or Fernando de Magelhaes (as referred in the primary source) is a Portuguese explorer and
navigator. He was born in a noble Portuguese family in 1480 and he spent his time serving the queen
of Portugal since he was a young boy (Szalay, 2014). Magellan had participated in many of Portugal
expeditions. He enrolled in the fleet of the Portuguese expeditions in 1505 and involved in many
journeys includes the journey to India, Africa and even Malacca in Malaysia in 1511(BBC, 2014).
According to Ducksters (2005), he had traveled to India by sailing around Africa. Later on, Magellan
came up with an idea to travel around Americans. Magellan s idea was to sail westwards from Seville
in Spain, through South America to get to Maluco or so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He presented his plan of his expedition to the King of Portugal, but it got rejected; and so he went to
King Charles I of Spain to fund his project with the promise that his expedition will establish a new
trade route which will surely bring further wealth to the country of Spain (Fernão de Magalhães, n.d.).
His proposed seem to be possible because the Spice Islands are rich in spices such as nutmeg,
cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. Those spices were extremely valuable during Magellan s day in
16th century because it could not be grown in Europe in which the areas are cold and dry place
(Ferdinand Magellan, 2015). Most importantly, since no one has discovered a way to go westward to
reach the Spice Islands, then it s normal for Magellan to intend to be the first one. In this analysis of a
primary source called Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE , I will explain
about the author of the source, why he wrote the source, how the

Steam Distillation
Experiment 2: Isolation of Eugenol from Cloves
Background; Readings on Vapor pressure, Raoult s Law from TRO: A mixture of the essential oils,
eugenol and acetyleugenol, will be steam distilled from cloves. These compounds are isolated from
aqueous distillate by extraction into dichloromethane. The dichloromethane solution is shaken with
aqueous sodium hydroxide, which will react with eugenol, to yield the sodium salt of eugenol in the
basic aqueous layer, and acetyleugenol in the organic layer. The basic aqueous layer can be acidified
to re extract eugenol from it. And the organic layer can be dried and concentrated to yield

Giant Sperm Whale Encounter at ROV Hercules
Scientists working with the Nautilus Exploration Program
(http://www.oceanexplorationtrust.org/#!nautilus exploration program/cdx2) in the Gulf of Mexico
had an exciting adventure when they had a giant sperm whale encounter this week that brought
excitement to the crew, as well as nature fans all over the world when the video went viral on
Facebook and social media venues.
The crew were able to record on their live webcam stream for everyone to enjoy as it glided around
inspecting the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Hercules (http://www.nautiluslive.org/tech/rov

Sperm Whale Encounter Rare, Exciting
Part of the reason the sperm whale encounter is so much of an adventure, is due to the fact that sperm
whales are on the endangered species list and considered vulnerable according to the International
Union for Conservation of Nature (www.iucn.org). In addition, the sperm whale is rarely seen to travel
in the waters off the Louisiana shore. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Youth over Age
Introduction Jim Fogle has worked in the technical sector for more than 30 years. He has held various
positions within the same company throughout his career. During this time, he has witnessed the
introduction of new technologies while countless others have gone obsolete. Although Fogle possesses
several years of proven industry experience, his career path does not reflect his performance or skills.
In fact, Fogle s career has tended to move on a downward slope. Originally a member of the
Engineering department, Fogle has found himself serving within progressively lesser roles. Twenty
years ago, Fogle served as an area support manager and coordinated technical service and support

As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions
has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary,
stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially
due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards
developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology
rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the
facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies
such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to
maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher
of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young
image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to
shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these
descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). A 2001
survey illustrates the disparity in both staffing and average salaries for IT professionals. This survey
consisted of 3,629 total respondents, of which 40

Civil War And The 1960s
A History of Protest Music Revolutionary War to the 1960s Protest music in the United States dates
back to the 19th century. This protest music focused around subjects that were topical for the time
period. Among these topics were the Civil War. Another topic was slavery, and its abolition. A final
topic was women s suffrage. A famous group of protest singers was the Hutchinson Family Singers.
Their notoriety, which spanned the mid 19th century, began in 1839. Their songs about abolition were
what they were known for. They also sang about the Civil War, the temperance movement, women s
suffrage, and other social reform movements. They are considered by many to be the precursors to
famous 20th century protest singers songwriters. Negro spirituals is a subgenre of music that many see
as a form of protest music. The focus of the spirituals were slavery and oppression. Many well known
Negro spirituals draw influence from the troubles other oppressed groups in history faced. During the
20th century, there was protest music before the Vietnam War. The most common topic was the
struggle for fair wages and working hours for the working class. Also, the attempt to unionize the
American workforce. Another protest music topic was the Great War or World War I. There were
songs protesting war in general. There were also songs that protested America s involvement in what
was considered a European war. A third protest music topic was the hardships of the 1920s and 1930s,
such as the

Wuthering Heights Displacement Quotes
Displaced
The first theme is that of displacement. After reading a majority of Wuthering Height there is a lot
involving people who have been displaced. Our first example of this would be when Mr.Earnshaw
brings back Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights The master tried to explain the matter; but he was really
half dead with fatigue, and all that I could make out, amongst her scolding, was a tale of his seeing it
starving, and houseless, and as good as dumb, in the streets of Liverpool, where he picked it up and
inquired for its owner. (Bronte, p.38) From this quote we can see that Heathcliff is out of placed due to
the fact that he is very dirty, and ragged, where as the Earnshaws are fair skinned and well groomed.
The second example of displacement would be when Catherine was at Thrushcross Grange for five
weeks. The mistress visited her often in the interval, and commenced her plan of reform by trying to
raise her self respect with fine clothes and flattery, which she took readily; so that, instead of a wild,
hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless. (Bronte pg 55)
From this quote we understand that while Catherine was staying at the Grange she became displaced
from her normal life at Wuthering heights, which in turn changed her perspective and appearance. ...

Characteristic features include a unilateral short for date lower limb, an inability to visualize two
bones in the lower leg, an associated talipes equinovalgus deformity of the affected foot, and
associated syndactyly. An X ray of the lower limb after birth can also be utilized to help diagnose
patients with fibular hemimelia. Features that can be visualized on lower limb x ray include an
absence of the fibula in two separate views, shortening of the femur, and lateral ray malformations.
The management of patients with fibular hemimelia is usually surgical and includes limb lengthening
procedures or limb amputation with prosthesis. The prognosis of this condition usually depends on the
degree of limb deformity. Patient with a clinically nonfunctional foot or a limb length discrepancy of
greater than 30% usually fare better with surgical amputation of the limb and early use of a prosthesis,
whereas patients with less significant deformities usually fare well with limb lengthening procedures

Clarkson Lumber Company Case Study Essay
Q1 1. Why has Clarkson Lumber borrowed increasing amounts despite its consistent profitability?
Because they have faced cash shortage trouble. Their profitability has grown for 1993 ~ 1995 period,
as we can see from their I/S (e.g. Sales and Net Income, etc.). However, as its business size grows,
their A/R increased, which means that it is getting difficult to collect cash. On the other hand, A/P
decreased for the same period, which means that the company paid cash for A/P, resulting in critical
cash shortage. Furthermore, the A/P payment period is shorter than A/R collection periods, the
company s cash problem happens to be accelerated.
(Exhibit 1) | 1993 | 1994 | 1995 | 1996 | CAGR | AR / Sales | 0.105 | 0.118 | 0.134 | 0.137 ... Show

How attractive is to take the trade discounts?
If the company can solve the cash shortage problem, taking 2% trade discount is profitable decision.
The Net Income when taking non trade discount is $ 87K and taking trade discount is 131K. The
difference is obvious. Trade discount is very attractive for the company.
Q3. Do you agree with Mr. Clarkson s estimation of the company loan requirements? How much will
he need to finance the expected expansion in sales to $ 5.5 Mil. In 1996 and to take all trade
discounts?
No, Mr. Clarkson s estimation for loan requirements ($ 750K) is not enough. He needs to borrow more
than $ 750K. As you can see from our 1996 pro forma Balance Sheet (with discount, without discount,
respectively), in the both of cases, the company still needs more than $750K from bank to meet their
financial needs. In case of not taking all trade discount, (1996 pro forma without discount) the
company needs to borrow $ $905K, on the other hand, in no trade discount case, the company even
needs more money ($1,112K) to finance their expected expansion. (Please refer to attached excel file

Same Sex Marriage Essay
What are others doing?
Canada is not the first country in the world to address whether and how to legally recognize same sex
unions. Indeed, Canada is coming to the debate later than many countries. Several countries have
debated this issue for many years and have come up with a variety of approaches, ranging from same
sex marriage in the Netherlands to the legal recognition of domestic partners, registered partnerships
and civil unions in Scandinavia, parts of Europe and parts of the United States. Although some of
these approaches appear to be similar, each is quite different, as it has been created to fit the particular
society and to comply with the specific constitutional and legal structures in each country. Most

Alberta, in a bill before their legislature, has also raised the possibility of legal recognition for
unmarried couples. Some details are set out below. In addition to these laws, most provinces and
territories have now also legislated to provide some or all of the benefits and obligations of married
couples to common law gay and lesbian couples under provincial and territorial laws.
Quebec
Bill 84 — An Act instituting civil unions and establishing new rules of filiation — was passed by the
National Assembly in June 2002. The Act amends the Civil Code and a number of other provincial
laws to create a new status of civil union partners (open to both unmarried opposite sex and same sex
conjugal partners). Civil union partners have almost all of the same benefits and obligations under
provincial law as married couples do, including the legal relationship between the partner and any
children. A civil union can be dissolved by a court judgment, a notarized joint declaration (under some
circumstances) or upon the death of one of the partners. A partner to a civil union cannot marry
without first dissolving the civil union.
While ensuring equal treatment, the Act makes it clear that civil unions are not marriages, and retains
some legal distinctions between the two. For example, some provisions of the Civil Code that relate to
legal separation continue to apply only to married couples.

Shadow was the servant of a king by the name of Alexander. King Alexander was a very cruel king,
who found joy in abusing his power. One day, Shadow was ordered to go on a prolonged journey to

Edible Alternatives To Single Use Plastic In Food Industry
Plastic pollution has reached the all time high. According to recent research, there are already more
than 5 trillion plastic pieces weighing over 250 000 tons afloat in the oceans (Eriksen et al., 2014).
Sustainablecoastlines.org, a New Zealand Charity dedicated to cleaning up the island s coastlines,
estimates that 72.4% of all plastic pollution in the Pacific oceans consists of single use plastics, 22.5%
of which is food wrappers, containers and bottle caps ( Our Impact ). Those numbers spell out an

Biodegradable plastics, produced from food based products rather than petroleum, although very
promising, still represent a very small percentage of the waste problem. Those should be broken down
only in specialized composting facilities through a controlled process that still produces considerable
amounts of methane (Dell, 2010). Clearly, the issue needs a completely different approach. Edible
alternatives to plastic are the next logical step to solving the contamination problem.
Designers of edible packaging borrowed the concept from nature. Just like apple or grape skins, those
ultra thin but strong membranes are capable of holding both liquid and solid foods while being
completely washable. Edible plastics can be made from vegetables, fruits or nuts with some chitosan
(biopolymer) or alginate (algae extract). Once those particles are gelatinized, they create the firm but
edible skin which mimics resistance of conventional plastics. This kind of packaging will still need an
outer box or a bag to keep the product clean on the shelf, but the individual servings will no longer
have to be ripped open and discarded. Instead, they can be dissolved in hot liquid directly or rinsed off
and eaten together with the contents. Some examples of this new zero waste food industry ideas have

How Does Baraka Destroy Nature
Mankind can destroy nature, but when nature strikes, it can be more powerful than any modifications
that humanity makes on it. Baraka depicts the overwhelming strength of nature through action shots of
Kuwaiti oil fires and their devastation in the post war state. In the Persian Gulf War of 1991 between
Kuwait and Iraq, conflict over oil and petroleum led to catastrophic environmental degradation and
consequences. Burning for about 7 months, fires engulfed and towered over the Kuwait landscape as
Iraqi forces set over 650 oil wells ablaze. Washed over by poisonous dark smoke, soot, and ash, land
combined with oil formed hardened layers of tarcrete, and rain as black as night fell upon the sand.
Animals and livestock died as their lungs blackened from the toxic atmosphere, and the water in lakes
was replaced with oil. Although human nature ultimately created this disaster, the extent of their
power does not expand to the point where they can manipulate something like fire into a colossal
environmental calamity. While fire may frequently be associated with destruction and evil, it is an
archetypal symbol that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

few seconds.
Humanity s hunger for power goes beyond attempting to take it away from nature, but also trying to

Proposed Genetic Algorithm Of Protein Tertiary Structure...
In the next subsections, the proposed genetic algorithm of protein tertiary structure prediction will be
described. i) The Proposed Genetic Algorithm Genetic Algorithms (GA) primarily motivated by the
biological theory of evolution, and it was originally developed by J. Holland in 1975 [11]. The GA is
is a search heuristic that mimics the process of natural selection. GA is based on the operations of
population reproduction and selection to acheive optimal results. Through artificial evolution,
successive generations search for fitter adaptations in order to solve a problem. Each generation
consists of a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called
individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions by applying genetic
operations of recombination and mutation to create a new offspring population from the current
population. The process evolution usually starts from a population of randomly generated individuals
or, using domain background knowledge. The generation process repeats for many generations with
the aim of maximizing the objective Function (also called fitness) of the chromosomes that are
evaluated each generation. Usually, the GA termination cindition are set to the maximum number of
generations. ii) Genetic Representation In a GA, a population of chromosomes, representing a series
of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better
solutions.

Prostitution In Brazil Essay
If prostitution is legal in Brazil, why is prostitution legal if brothels are going to be illegal to operate?
Even though prostitution is legal in Brazil, it is illegal to operate or to employ prostitutes in any other
way. This is a big issue because there are still brothels that operate secretly in Brazil, but if the
Brazilian government s legalized brothels, they would help the Brazilian economy by they can help
lead to a chain effect that would significantly benefit Brazil s economy, primarily through tax revenue
which will bring in a lot of money for the government. More criminal activity is occurring while these
brothels main to be illegal. Many people would argue that legalizing a brothel would just be a gift to
pimps, traffickers, and the sex industry. If the brothels are government owned and run by a person they

Rates, the last Heart Rate was used.
HR ( Heart Rate)
Time ( when the patient finished) RHR (Resting Heart Rate)
Discussion/Conclusion Each one of these tests were submaximal meaning the patient was not to max
out. This all depends on the patient s ability or level of fitness. The Submax for some people may
actually be a Max test for others. All of these test required the subjects or patients to do some type of
physical activity which would increase Heart Rate, especially since some these test had set time. The
hypothesis was that the YMCA Sub Max test was to have the highest Heart Rate, while also
determining if time had any effect. The results showed that the hypothesis was wrong, even with the
resistance that came with the YMCA testing, the Heart Rate was still the lowest and depended on the
subject. Subject 1 highest Heart Rate was 128 at a time of 16.46 minutes, with the Rockport Test.
Subject 2 highest Heart Rate was 120 at a time of 6:00 minutes, with the Astrand. Also with Subject 2,
the highest Heart Rate was 124 at a time of 6:00 minutes,

Carter s The Bloody Chamber
The idea of the female only existing in relation to the male can also be evidenced in Carter s The
Bloody Chamber for example when the narrator recollects My satin nightdress had just been shaken
from its wrappings; it had slipped over my young girl s pointed breasts and shoulders, supple as a
garment of heavy water, and now teasingly caressed me, egregious, insinuating, nudging between my
thighs as I shifted restlessly in my narrow berth (2), this echoes Berger s claim that The surveyor of
woman in herself is male; the surveyed female as this quote shows the narrator is describing herself as
if to please a man, the fact that the night dress was given to her by the Marquis shows how she is
willing to see herself through his eyes as if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clegg s reactions such as blushing when he is asked by Miranda if he wants to kiss her or if he is
homosexual indicate that because his idealisation of her is that extreme he cannot touch her. To touch
Miranda would ruin his imaginary persona of her, he contents himself in taking photographs of
Miranda in different poses. The male gaze is prominent in the taking of the photos, Clegg states, It
was my chance I had been waiting for. I got the old camera and took some photos, I would have taken
more only she started to move a bit, so I had to pack up and get out quick. (95). Mulvey s theory of the
male gaze occurs when the audience is put into the perspective of a man, when a scene focuses on
such aspects as the curves of a female s body, therefore putting the viewer in the eyes of a male. This
is similar to what is happening when Clegg is taking the photographs as he earlier states I took of her
dress and her stockings and left on certain articles, just the brassieres and the other so as not to go the
whole hog. She looked a real picture lying there (95), by doing this the reader is allowed insight to
Clegg s perspective, it is clear by his language that he is manipulating her, he changes her clothing and
places her down in a position that enables him to focus on her body in order to achieve the desired
photographs.

The Stanley Parable Essay
Mechanics: The Stanley Parable has very limited set of control mechanics. The player is given W,A,S,
and D along with left the mouse and left mouse button. As for color schemes The game goes from
very sterile and warm colored environments, to messy and colorless places. In some of the
environments there are weenies in the form of light that help guide the player along potential paths
that they can make. Dynamics: I felt very at home with the controls in The Stanley parable. It was
pretty much the standard setup for a pc game. The one Control that is missing that I always want to
have but never need is a jump button. One of the things that I noticed about the game was that even

may be ahead of all of us if we don t take life into our own hands. We could be spending the rest of
our life living the exact day over and over again waiting for excitement to be presented to us. Noone
wants to live in a groundhogs day. I think that when you notice that you don t have the reins to your

everything that the narrator told me to cause the world to collapse or staying the closet. Narrative The
narrative of The Stanley Parable depended heavily on what choices you make throughout the game. If

A Multi Scale Optimization Framework
CO2 is an important greenhouse gas (GHG) and emission of CO2 to the atmosphere needs to be
reduced in order to mitigate climate change. It is imperative to device ways of proper CO2 utilization
and storage. CO2 can be sequestered geologically as well as there are other ways of CO2 utilization
which can be economically viable in places where geological storage is not the most optimal solution.
In the present study, the primary focus is on the integration potential of two GHG abatement options,
which are geological sequestration of CO2 and biological sequestration of CO2 via microalgae
growth, harvest and conversion to bioproducts. There are several ways of microalgae conversion to an
array of products, as discussed in the previous sections. The present study aims to quantify the techno
economic tradeoffs and optimize the entire supply chain of CO2 utilization to ensure the most
economically feasible alternative of CO2 usage. A multi scale optimization framework is proposed.
The mathematical framework is provided in Figure 2. The model takes into account the design of
pipeline network for CO2 transport, different processing routes for microalgae conversion as well as
CO2 geological storage. A case study is considered to assess the optimal design of GHG capture,
storage and/or utilization for the state of Texas in United States. Such an effort will help inform
decision and policy makers the optimal pathway of CO2 storage and utilization procedures for a
particular location.

The Importance Of Censorship In Libraries
Censorship is a huge thing within today s society, Censorship in libraries is when a school board, a
parent, or just anyone challenges a book that is explicit with sexual language, homosexuality, and or
religion. The meaning of censorship is to ban a book, it s not necessarily up to the library, but more so
to the community and the school board. Anyone can challenge a book to be censored, even if it s not
explicit, if you personally take offense to a book you can challenge it to be a censored or banned book,
but with that you have to have a valid reason on why you want it banned or censored. There are
thousands of books that are considered to be explicit and are banned out of libraries in some schools

Including Ten Sleep, Wyoming. On the other hand there s a lot of schools who have just this specific
book banned or censored because it is sexually explicit, homosexuality explicit, and religiously
explicit.
For my second reasoning, books can be challenged, censored, or banned in libraries if the parents,
staff, or school board if they do not necessarily agree with their children to read books that are
censored in libraries because they could be religious and it could be going against their beliefs and that
would affect and cause a lot of chaos for the school district or public library; my prospective and voice
on this is that there should be books banned, censored, or challenge because theirs always going to be
someone who will take offense to something, wither it is a book, a movie, a magazine, or even a song.
Mark Twain a famous poet once quoted, The man who does not read has no advantage over the man
who cannot read and I personally think this is important because I believe that the more experience
that you may have in reading or just anything else, the more experience you will have means the more
knowledge you have, this is significant because if you can read or hear and you choose not to listen to

No business would abruptly go down and there will definitely be symptoms. If the entrepreneur has
difficulty in paying his bill, market for the product is shrinking and the customer sales is coming down
drastically, these are common signs that the company is not performing well. Another red flag is when
there is an increase in customer complaints, which clearly goes to show that the business is failing to
meet the needs of the customer. The entrepreneur should also ensure that the balance between
inventory and sales levels are correct. If the inventory levels tend to climb at a faster rate than what
the sales warrant, the company is at a risk of piling up the inventory. When the business has more
work than it can handle is another warning of the enterprise not doing well. A lack of liquidity can also
be a cause of business failure. Liquidity is the speed at which an asset can be converted into cash and
if the company does not have enough liquid cash at its disposal, it can lead to their downfall. A new
business venture that provides products or services at the cheapest price in a desperate quest for
making sales is also a sign of struggle.
In order for a new venture to be successful, the management plays a vital role. When a business
grows, it can never be a one man show, but it needs the management as a whole to take responsibility.
An entrepreneur can have a business model that has the

Personal Statement On Family Farms
Family farms serve as both a place to live and a place to work and is unique as both a home and a
workplace. Growing up on a cattle farm, with horses and the necessary machinery, I was exposed to
many conditions that have taught me valuable lessons and allowed me to thrive as a young individual.
One of the main reasons that I have been able to thrive under these circumstances is because of my
family members ensuring my safety. My family has always been rigorous about teaching me how to
stay safe from the many dangers on our farm that could leave me vulnerable to injury and illness. On
our farm, we consider the health and safety of our family to be our number one priority. When I was
young, my parents restricted my access to worksites on the farm and were certain to reduce my
exposure to hazardous situations to ensure my safety and well being. I was prohibited to go near the
cattle without one of my adult family members being with me and was not allowed to roam around the
farm without the supervision of an adult. I became progressively mesmerized by the livestock on our
farm and wanted to be more involved with them so that I could pursue my curiosity. While this
worried my parents to a certain degree, they supported my curiosity and began to give me modified
tasks and chores that I was capable of doing without putting me in harm s way. Before performing any
of these tasks however, they ensured that I was properly informed on what I was to do and how I was
to do them. The

The Triple Bottom Line Model
The Triple Bottom Line
Introduction
A triple bottom line model never merely quantifies an accomplishment or rather the wellbeing of a
company through its conventional monetary bottom line. However, triple bottom line similarly

typically is an incessant process that shall assist the company in concentrating into the performance of

the set significances, processes as well as issues of the company might decrease and determine

(Conason, 2009) The United States healthcare financial systems are severely flawed affecting the

If you combine the fifty five million who have been uninsured in a given year with the additional
thirty million Americans who are under insured, you get to a total of eighty five million Americans

cannot afford healthcare services, and therefore have no financial defense in battling illnesses. Even
with the affordable care act in place, there is a constant struggle for many who cannot afford the
premiums that come with these insurance policies. One of the reasons why we have uninsurance in the
United States is that it has become increasingly unaffordable to purchase insurance because the cost of
care and the premiums for care have gone up at multiples of the rates of increase of wages and of the
cost of living in the United States (Blumenthal, 2014) One way to combat these costs is to keep in
mind the geographical location of these individuals. By taking this information into consideration,
healthcare facilities can better focus on the types of services and care they offer their clients. It s
important to keep in mind the type of customers that they are primarily dealing with, for example, are

When it comes time to make an important decision, ones personal courage and self discipline are put
to the test and what has been instilled in them from the beginning of their lives is the determining
factor of how the situation will turn out. There are many things that can go wrong in the process of
passing family values on from generation to generation. If certain values are instilled in a particular
family since the dawn of its existence, and those values are not necessarily the best ones, it is more
than likely going to be considered a perfectly acceptable value and taught to members of that family to

to them is the only thing that they know and it is always considered right. It is not the youth s fault, or

Essay about Wal-Mart
The founder of the Wal Mart chain, Sam Walton was born in March 1918 in the town of Kingfisher,
Oklahoma. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army for the World War
II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of stores. He began to
realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business (nickel and dime stores).
The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel and dime stores of earlier
times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount based on volume purchases; the
company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a slight markup, this rate being however
less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet in the sphere of business, he was a radical trend setter. Choosing to be innovative and aggressive,
the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights and down new
avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But it was what he
chose to do differently – the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model – that made Wal
Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From
the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest
discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key
strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He
sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his
stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets
tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors
went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different
approach to merchandising and pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on
private label goods, second tier brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at
everyday low prices. The company pursued efficiency and

spent twenty year prior to this as a missionary in Mexico. Due in large part to his strength of character
and incredibly charismatic personality, Fr. Serra was chosen for the mission project because of success
in gaining conversions in Mexico. As we have learned, the mission system turned out to be a failure
and a source of many abuses against the native people. Because of this, it is a subject of much
controversy as to whether or not Fr. Serra will be canonized a saint. It would seem that Fr. Serra had
good intentions, but it s difficult to understand how a man of such integrity could overlook the harm

My Life And Building Leadership Qualities
I grew up in a family of Indian railway employees. Along with a railway job my father used to serve in
the Territorial Army. I learned from my father about the discipline, leadership, and commitment
needed to serve the country. At the age of 12, I joined the Bharat Scouts and Guides to achieve
physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as an individual. From being a boy scout, I grew up
in the ranks over the years to scout leader. During my last year of high school, I became the school
captain, planning and leading the school day to day student activities. During the same time, as a
captain, I lead my school team to a district level cricket championship. I enjoyed my entire school
journey learning and building leadership qualities. My urge for community service led me to look for
opportunities in and outside of my undergrad college. During my search, I met then Commanding
Officer of NCC 2(A) Compo Tech Regiment, a wing of Indian army in Visakhapatnam. After my brief
interaction with him, I felt that joining National Cadet Crops (NCC) would further strengthen my

organized camps for water conservation, blood donation, and tree plantation. The unique training
activities that the NCC provided me with in terms of teamwork and leadership have molded me into a

  • 2. Reflective Research Paper Reflective Research Paper I have connected the reflective research paper to objective # 1 because it made me examine my personal belief and attitude on gender equity issues. I did not realize that gender equity existed at the level that it does until researching the topic. Doing the research made me realize that the way we teach directly affects how children learn in every aspect. Gender inequities in the fields of math and science are well researched and the results are shocking. Women compromise 45% of the work force, they hold jobs concentrated in clerical, service, and professional fields such as teaching and nursing, rather than in mathematics, science, or engineering (Levin Matthews, 1997). Gender inequities start in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teachers need to challenge girls in the same manner they challenge boys. Language is another barrier teachers need to break in order to prevent gender bias. Language can build a wall that will deter girls from continuing their math and science education. Text and teachers often refer to a third party as he . When he is stated your mind automatically pictures a man. When speaking about professionals, engineers or scientists, you re limiting professions to girls by always labeling with he . Something as simple as phrasing can result in a bias in the classroom. Using role models in the classroom can provide gender equity issues. Recently textbook publishers tried to make textbooks less gender bias by including more women. In the 1997 article, Levin and Matthews stated that even though there are chapters or boxes labeled Famous Women Scientists, students are still left with a fragmented world view that males are the main story and women are a sideshow, confined to a brief insert, anecdote, or biographical summary. However, if teachers can provide female role models of scientists, or engineers for the students they will be more likely to pursue a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round The World Analysis An analysis of Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE First of all, Ferdinand Magellan or Fernando de Magelhaes (as referred in the primary source) is a Portuguese explorer and navigator. He was born in a noble Portuguese family in 1480 and he spent his time serving the queen of Portugal since he was a young boy (Szalay, 2014). Magellan had participated in many of Portugal expeditions. He enrolled in the fleet of the Portuguese expeditions in 1505 and involved in many journeys includes the journey to India, Africa and even Malacca in Malaysia in 1511(BBC, 2014). According to Ducksters (2005), he had traveled to India by sailing around Africa. Later on, Magellan came up with an idea to travel around Americans. Magellan s idea was to sail westwards from Seville in Spain, through South America to get to Maluco or so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He presented his plan of his expedition to the King of Portugal, but it got rejected; and so he went to King Charles I of Spain to fund his project with the promise that his expedition will establish a new trade route which will surely bring further wealth to the country of Spain (Fernão de Magalhães, n.d.). His proposed seem to be possible because the Spice Islands are rich in spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. Those spices were extremely valuable during Magellan s day in 16th century because it could not be grown in Europe in which the areas are cold and dry place (Ferdinand Magellan, 2015). Most importantly, since no one has discovered a way to go westward to reach the Spice Islands, then it s normal for Magellan to intend to be the first one. In this analysis of a primary source called Ferdinand Magellan s Voyage Round the World, 1519 1522 CE , I will explain about the author of the source, why he wrote the source, how the ... As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary, stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). Our first example of this would be when Mr.Earnshaw brings back Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights The master tried to explain the matter; but he was really half dead with fatigue, and all that I could make out, amongst her scolding, was a tale of his seeing it starving, and houseless, and as good as dumb, in the streets of Liverpool, where he picked it up and inquired for its owner. (Bronte, p.38) From this quote we can see that Heathcliff is out of placed due to the fact that he is very dirty, and ragged, where as the Earnshaws are fair skinned and well groomed. The second example of displacement would be when Catherine was at Thrushcross Grange for five weeks. The mistress visited her often in the interval, and commenced her plan of reform by trying to raise her self respect with fine clothes and flattery, which she took readily; so that, instead of a wild, hatless little savage jumping into the house, and rushing to squeeze us all breathless. In the next subsections, the proposed genetic algorithm of protein tertiary structure prediction will be described. i) The Proposed Genetic Algorithm Genetic Algorithms (GA) primarily motivated by the biological theory of evolution, and it was originally developed by J. Holland in 1975 [11]. The GA is is a search heuristic that mimics the process of natural selection. GA is based on the operations of population reproduction and selection to acheive optimal results. Through artificial evolution, successive generations search for fitter adaptations in order to solve a problem. Each generation consists of a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions by applying genetic operations of recombination and mutation to create a new offspring population from the current population. The process evolution usually starts from a population of randomly generated individuals or, using domain background knowledge. The generation process repeats for many generations with the aim of maximizing the objective Function (also called fitness) of the chromosomes that are evaluated each generation. Usually, the GA termination cindition are set to the maximum number of generations. ii) Genetic Representation In a GA, a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions. ... • 26. A Multi Scale Optimization Framework CO2 is an important greenhouse gas (GHG) and emission of CO2 to the atmosphere needs to be reduced in order to mitigate climate change. It is imperative to device ways of proper CO2 utilization and storage. CO2 can be sequestered geologically as well as there are other ways of CO2 utilization which can be economically viable in places where geological storage is not the most optimal solution. In the present study, the primary focus is on the integration potential of two GHG abatement options, which are geological sequestration of CO2 and biological sequestration of CO2 via microalgae growth, harvest and conversion to bioproducts. There are several ways of microalgae conversion to an array of products, as discussed in the previous sections. The present study aims to quantify the techno economic tradeoffs and optimize the entire supply chain of CO2 utilization to ensure the most economically feasible alternative of CO2 usage. A multi scale optimization framework is proposed. The mathematical framework is provided in Figure 2. The model takes into account the design of pipeline network for CO2 transport, different processing routes for microalgae conversion as well as CO2 geological storage. A case study is considered to assess the optimal design of GHG capture, storage and/or utilization for the state of Texas in United States. Such an effort will help inform decision and policy makers the optimal pathway of CO2 storage and utilization procedures for a particular location. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Censorship In Libraries Censorship is a huge thing within today s society, Censorship in libraries is when a school board, a parent, or just anyone challenges a book that is explicit with sexual language, homosexuality, and or religion. The meaning of censorship is to ban a book, it s not necessarily up to the library, but more so to the community and the school board. Anyone can challenge a book to be censored, even if it s not explicit, if you personally take offense to a book you can challenge it to be a censored or banned book, but with that you have to have a valid reason on why you want it banned or censored. On the other hand there s a lot of schools who have just this specific book banned or censored because it is sexually explicit, homosexuality explicit, and religiously explicit. For my second reasoning, books can be challenged, censored, or banned in libraries if the parents, staff, or school board if they do not necessarily agree with their children to read books that are censored in libraries because they could be religious and it could be going against their beliefs and that would affect and cause a lot of chaos for the school district or public library; my prospective and voice on this is that there should be books banned, censored, or challenge because theirs always going to be someone who will take offense to something, wither it is a book, a movie, a magazine, or even a song. Mark Twain a famous poet once quoted, The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read and I personally think this is important because I believe that the more experience that you may have in reading or just anything else, the more experience you will have means the more knowledge you have, this is significant because if you can read or hear and you choose not to listen to music or read, you are only hurting yourself because you will have no advantages over anyone. . Another red flag is when there is an increase in customer complaints, which clearly goes to show that the business is failing to meet the needs of the customer. The entrepreneur should also ensure that the balance between inventory and sales levels are correct. If the inventory levels tend to climb at a faster rate than what the sales warrant, the company is at a risk of piling up the inventory. Growing up on a cattle farm, with horses and the necessary machinery, I was exposed to many conditions that have taught me valuable lessons and allowed me to thrive as a young individual. One of the main reasons that I have been able to thrive under these circumstances is because of my family members ensuring my safety. My family has always been rigorous about teaching me how to stay safe from the many dangers on our farm that could leave me vulnerable to injury and illness. On our farm, we consider the health and safety of our family to be our number one priority. When I was young, my parents restricted my access to worksites on the farm and were certain to reduce my exposure to hazardous situations to ensure my safety and well being. I was prohibited to go near the cattle without one of my adult family members being with me and was not allowed to roam around the farm without the supervision of an adult. I became progressively mesmerized by the livestock on our farm and wanted to be more involved with them so that I could pursue my curiosity. While this worried my parents to a certain degree, they supported my curiosity and began to give me modified tasks and chores that I was capable of doing without putting me in harm s way. Before performing any of these tasks however, they ensured that I was properly informed on what I was to do and how I was to do them. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you combine the fifty five million who have been uninsured in a given year with the additional thirty million Americans who are under insured, you get to a total of eighty five million Americans with inadequate protection against the cost of illness (Blumenthal, 2014) Millions of Americans cannot afford healthcare services, and therefore have no financial defense in battling illnesses. Even with the affordable care act in place, there is a constant struggle for many who cannot afford the premiums that come with these insurance policies. One of the reasons why we have uninsurance in the United States is that it has become increasingly unaffordable to purchase insurance because the cost of care and the premiums for care have gone up at multiples of the rates of increase of wages and of the cost of living in the United States (Blumenthal, 2014) One way to combat these costs is to keep in mind the geographical location of these individuals. By taking this information into consideration, healthcare facilities can better focus on the types of services and care they offer their clients. When it comes time to make an important decision, ones personal courage and self discipline are put to the test and what has been instilled in them from the beginning of their lives is the determining factor of how the situation will turn out. There are many things that can go wrong in the process of passing family values on from generation to generation. If certain values are instilled in a particular family since the dawn of its existence, and those values are not necessarily the best ones, it is more than likely going to be considered a perfectly acceptable value and taught to members of that family to come. When negative family values are taught, it is common that when someone applies those same values to real world situations, they will encounter conflict among people and situations that they come across. This is common with families that are prejudice, racist, sheltered, or just plain ignorant to modern cultural standards. It is a very sad thing when incorrect or socially unacceptable values are taught to the youth in a family. For the reason that, to a young and impressionable mind what is taught to them is the only thing that they know and it is always considered right. Graduating from the University of Missouri, Sam enlisted in the Army for the World War II effort. Upon his return, Sam worked for a while at the J.C. Penney group of stores. He began to realize that opportunities existed in the large scale discount retailing business (nickel and dime stores). The idea and business philosophy of Wal Mart borrowed from the nickel and dime stores of earlier times, and consisted of getting National Brands in bulk at a discount based on volume purchases; the company would then stamp its mark and resell the goods at a slight markup, this rate being however less than the other competing Mom and Pop stores ... Choosing to be innovative and aggressive, the founder of Wal Mart took the large scale discount retailing business to new heights and down new avenues. Sam borrowed a lot of ideas for his early stores from Kmart and others. But it was what he chose to do differently – the ways he put his own stamp on the basic business model – that made Wal Mart so fabulously successful. His model was the same as Kmart s, but his strategy was unique. From the very beginning, Walton chose to serve a different group of customers. At that time, the 10 largest discounters (in 1962) focused on large metropolitan areas and cities like New York. Wal Mart s key strategy was to put good size stores into little one horse towns which everybody else was ignoring. He sought out isolated rural towns with populations between 5,000 25,000, and correctly bet that if his stores could match or beat the city prices, people would shop at home. Since Wal Mart s markets tended to be too small to support more than one large retailer, eventually the small local competitors went out of business, making the whole area Wal Mart territory. Wal Mart also took a different approach to merchandising and pricing than its competitors. While competitors relied heavily on private label goods, second tier brands and price promotions, Wal Mart promised National Brands at everyday low prices. The company pursued efficiency and ...
