Chronicle Of A Death
Chronicle of a Death;
Magical Realism as a Device to reflect the times.
Literature is often said to be used as a means of reflecting the times, society and climate the author
is in and experiencing. Values, norms the ethos of a particular culture place or time is often
interpreted through its literature. (Albrecht, 1954)
This is seen throughout many texts that are present; Oedipus, Sophocles and the tragic hero, The
Elephant Vanishes, Murakami and the loss of culture and lastly with Chronicle of a death foretold
by Marquez.
Written in the 19th century, a time in which Colombia prided itself on its Spanish tradition;
Marquez was part of The Group of Barranquilla wanting to leave behind the conservative attitudes
of the city to live in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Angela has indeed pointed a finger at the alleged perpetrator with supposed certainty, she only took
the time necessary , however we are presented with a fantastical and surreal version that does not
evoke the clarity we are promised but not delivered.
In conclusion Marquez use of magical realism manages to both reflect the times however deflect
information the reader craves to learn.
The device causes digression from facts and whilst interesting and pulling in the reader further into
the plot, once it is over, the reader realizes they leave the chapter with the same questions. The
surreal and often detailed and vivid illustrations formed can confuse and leave the reader in a semi
state of bewilderment as in the case of Maria the prostitute and her description.
Written as a chronicle, from the narrators view point, the writing is presented in a journalistic
style. Magical realism allows Marquez to introduce a reflection of his time whilst still presenting a
work of fiction, sending the reader contrasting concepts that they must find on their own to then

Born Sinner Biography
I was 14 years old, days before the school year ended, when I found myself stumbling upon a
surprise announcement by J. Cole, my Lord and Savior himself; My new album. 2014 Forest Hills
Drive. 12/9 .
Then there was me. A teenaged schoolgirl scavenging various german sites for any leaked sample
of this album I could find. I found myself feeling (weirdly) good about myself, like hey, look at
me, I m so unique and would you look at my music taste.
North Carolina rapper J. Cole s follow up to 2013 s Born Sinner rejects featuring collaborations,
producing his most intimate and elaborate album yet, that made me reminisce about the classic
Cole sound, though parts of this album suggest he has developed his sense of versatility by adapting
his signature sound into a more complex and diverse mixture of upright front tones and technically
produced backbeats, while incorporating his signature hard hitting lyrics, proving his ingenuity in
the production of his tracks. In his quest to canonize his sound, he ignored the release of singles

and physically. This is depicted over a choir esque sound which is layered in between few other
sub basses and upright tones which evoke a cool, airy feel, somewhat adding to the sensuality of
this song. The tones of a lush synthesizer and rattling high hats are compiled to produce this
masterpiece of a both rhythmic and chill style. The harmonious tones in the background are
formatted perfectly to comply with technical languid tones, to ensure his audience focuses on the
lyrical message, by not unnecessarily amplifying it with the backbeats and support sounds itself.
This technique of eschewing the idea of upfront rhythms and kick basses is applied to songs such
as Hello , Apparently and St Tropez , where the lyrics are the focal point of the

Story Of An Hour Short Story Essay
Short Fiction Analysis Essay: The Story of an Hour
Death awakens many emotions. In the short story The Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin
symbolism and Irony are used to show the freedom the character (Mrs. Mallard) wants from her
husband. Mrs. Mallard is forced into an emotional roller coaster that eventually brings out her
true feelings of freedom. The story has different symbols in the meaning of freedom to and how
ironic these symbols become to Mrs. Mallard at the end of the story. For many married women
marriages can be a symbol of love, unity, and fidelity until death do us part. This story gives the
perspective that love was not there from Mrs. Mallard towards Mr. Mallard. Chopin description of
how some women think of marriage as the fulfillment in their life, while others see it as a cage is
a good example of marriage in that era. Women in that time only live confined to the home and
see little to nothing of their husbands. They spend their day taking care of the house, children,
and have a small social life. Middle class women 1890s America, women who were subjected to a
strict set of social codes that governed female...identity (Emmert 56). Mrs. Mallard mentions she
will cry again when she sees her husband s dead body. The way she describes her husband s
kindness and love towards her makes the reader believe there is some love in that marriage.
However, feels trapped by her marriage and her sickness. Her husband expresses his love for her by

Pros And Cons Of Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus is acknowledged for discovering the Americas, but he is also recognized for
his actions towards the indigenous people. As a result of these actions, Columbus has been
criticized by many. It s no doubt that these disapprovals and judgments are valid, however,
Columbus did have reasonings behind his motivations. (Add reasonings)
Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa, and it is believed that while growing up he was well
educated. Columbus s childhood before his voyage to America consisted of learning new
languages and helping his family s business. He came from a family of wool merchants and was
bound to become a legacy for his family s business. Yet, he decided on a different and more
adventurous occupation. When he was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He soon learned that there were little riches to be found. Saying, I am beginning to believe they
will tell me anything I want to hear. As a result of his deficient findings, he left some of his men
and returned back to Spain. I am sure that the lack of discovery was devastating to Columbus
because he expected to find so much more and become a wealthy and notable man.
In his future trips back to the Bahamas, Columbus took natives as slaves and continued his search
for riches. Columbus declared that the natives, ought to make good and skilled servants, and
subject everyone and makes them do what you wished . He treated the indigenous people as
obstacles to his greater task of fame and fortune. Columbus spiraled because he was determined
on finding riches. Since he was so set on the idea of becoming Nobel and titled, he disgraced the
natives and allowed slavery and death to occur. Columbus was so fixed on success and bringing
honor to the Spanish monarchs, that he disregarded his morals to achieve his desires. Ultimately,
there were reasons for his actions, and he wasn t just a terrible person who killed at random.
Columbus did have motives behind his actions, and because of his high regard for wealth and
status, he believed that his actions were necessary.
Christopher Columbus is deserving of judgment for some of his actions to the indigenous people.
However, I believe

Arthur Black Essay
Arthur Black is a very opinionated man. In his essays about Canada, he has many short pieces
about the differences between Canadians and Americans. He states how there is never anything
bad said about Canada, and that Canada could even be considered a wallflower . In his essay
Canadian Passion Not Flagging, Black talks about how the Americans wave their flag and
Canadians do not. Americans have their flag everywhere; hanging inside malls, and even at the gas
stations. In his essay Canada: Too Polite to Live, it says how the American Declaration of
Independence demands life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Canadians have settled for peace,
order, and good government. Another difference between Americans and Canadians according to...

Also, to be Canadian, it is almost a must to have an interest in hockey. Hockey is the one sport
Canada can safely say they are the best at. People from Canada know a different level of cold
than places like the USA. In the article A Samaritan with Jumper Cables, Black says how this
aint a country; this is winter. Also in that article, he tells some stories about how polite and kind
people from Canada are and how if the car spun off the road or ran out of gas, Canadians would
be there to help right away. Arthur Black s main classification of Canada is polite, and that is most
likely the rest of the world s opinion also.
Your Canada Winter in Canada is much different than winter in other countries. For one, it is
much longer. Winter lasts about six to eight months, and it can be unbearably cold. The days are
significantly shorter than summer, which makes it that much harder to wake up for the day at
school or at work. Having to shovel the driveway isn t Canadians favorite pastime at seven in the
morning when they are going to be late for work. Also what needs to be taken into account is
making sure the car is plugged in during the night. When that is forgotten in the cold days of
winter, it is pretty hard to get anywhere because no car would start if it was sitting outside. The
season of winter in Canada isn t all bad though, it is very pretty at times. Waking up and looking
out the window to a fresh blanket of snow is one of the greatest sights for a

Assume Nothing Gender Identity
Title: Assume Nothing
Intro: Assume Nothing is a 2009 film that was produced by Kirsty MacDonald. It is a film about
gender orientation and how certain characteristics and the way we visually look can identify us as
either being a male or a female.
Purpose: The purpose of the film I to inform us, the people in our society that that even though we
might appear to be one thing in reality we can be something completely different. There are
deceptions when it comes to gender identity.
Message: The message is that that are many deceptions when it comes to gender identity, we cannot
be so quick to make an assumption.
Summary: Our society has learned to put every individual into a category, either a male or female,
we like to be able to categorize our world. Each member either male or female is suppose to look
and act in certain ways that are accepted by our society and deemed to be normal. Our eyes can
play tricks on us, so we cannot always believe what we see as true. ... Show more content on

Persuasive Essay On National Service
Judge a leader by their level of service not their level of privilege, (US Army Ranger). National
service is the big idea of this generation. Citizens should have the opportunity and the responsibility
to serve for their country. National service involves people more with their community by allowing
them to have a voice and participate more with their communities. Citizens will come together
stronger after serving together. General Stanley McChrystal wrote a democracy journal explaining
that it would be in the best interest for everyone to join the service for one year. General Stanley
McChrystal is a retired four star general and the former commander of the U.S and International
Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and of the Joint Special Operations Command.
McChrystal talks about how the governmentis run by the citizens and how the citizens give the
government its voice. Also how the problems that are starting to arise is history itself repeating.
Joining the service for a year gives off opportunity and confidence to the citizens. After the service
these citizens gain a sense of responsibility and hard work needed to pursue their dreams.
Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a
state. Joining the militaryfor one year gives many benefits of the citizens because it creates a better
government, it makes a more peaceful community and it gives off a better education. Joining the

history. Einstein added to the world with his brilliant knowledge. I would emulate Albert Einstein
because he made a difference in the world through his knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to

win the race to build an atomic bomb, Einstein was asked to write a letter to President Roosevelt
recommending that the US pay attention and engage in its own nuclear weapon research. As a

Explain Why Is Connecticut Called The Nutmeg State
Why is Connecticut Called the Constitution State and the Nutmeg State?
Connecticut is called the Constitution State because it had the world s first written constitution.
According to Gelman, Hartford, Windsor, and Wethersfield wanted to join together and become the
colony of Connecticut (20). They wrote their own laws to live by. These laws are called the
Fundamental Orders. Connecticut is also called the Nutmeg State. This is because people moved
from Connecticut to other states because there was not enough land to live on. They moved around
like the yankee peddlers would to sell goods and nutmegs to farmers and settlers (Kent, 45). Many
of the people from Connecticut moved to the midwest.

Eu Law Of The European Union
EU LAW
(i) The actions that might be brought by Rochelle and Neil in the national courts
With regard to the actions that might be brought by Rochelle and Neil in the national courts
when it comes to the matter of complaints about the law of the European Union s (henceforth, the
EU s) application, it has generally been recognised that if an individual is recognised as being a
national of a Member State, lives in a Member State, or if they run a business in the EU then the
law of the Union provides parties like Rochelle and Neil with a number of rights. However, if
individuals like Rochelle and/or Neil feel that their rights under the law of the EU in the form of a
Directive and a Regulation in this instance respectively have not been respected by a Member State
like the UK s national authorities then it is first necessary to bring the matter before those
authorities for the purpose of resolution before having to resort to the European Court of Justice
(henceforth, the ECJ) for this purpose. This is because it has generally been recognised that this
will typically be both the most effective and efficient means to bring about the resolution of any
matters of concern raised by parties like Rochelle and/or Neil when it comes to the interpretation
and application of the law of the EU.
Such an understanding of the position in this regard is evidenced by the fact that the law of the EU
in the form of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union 2008 (henceforth, the

Humanism In Antigone
Over the centuries, the figure of Antigone has assumed the archetypal and iconographical martyred
champion of the oppressed thus been restaged and reworked into countless literary pieces. Through
Winston s performance as Antigone, Fugard is able project ideas of Western liberal humanism to an
apartheid ridden South Africa, constituting to a form of heroic resistance against racial oppression.
Fugard specifically focuses on The Trial and Punishment of Antigone scene where the play
climaxes. Through the use of metatheatre, he highlights the power of stage performance, in this
case demonstrating Winston s action in the play within a play has abilities to transcend through
reality and affect us, the audience. This is done by creating an intentional slippage between the
division level of reality, the stage and the stage on stage. By tearing off his wig and confronting the
audience as Winston, not Antigone he essentially blurs the boundary between actor and character,
conversely the boundary between stage and reality also disintegrates. The use of John and ... Show

Her act of defying Creon by burring her brother is paralleled with Winston s defiance of the state
and rebellious act of resisting apartheid authority by burning his passbook. By openly committing
his act in front of a police station, like Antigone, he is sentenced to his living death eclipsing their
tragic fate together. In Sophocles original work, Creon symbolise the state law and Antigone the
will of the Gods, underlining the fact that state law is not absolute, and can be broken through
civil disobedience hence suggesting there is a higher law of humanity. Thus, in the eyes of the
higher law Winston s burning of the passbook is justifiable. This can be extended to Fugard s work
where apartheid authority is represented through John s Creon and freedom and of human rights of

Our Messed Up Juvenile Law System
Nowadays, the topic of the Juvenile law system is a very controversial as well as difficult
discussion to have. For every court case, trial, and scenario, there are many different
circumstances that may affect the outcome. Due to the seriousness of their crimes or even their
past offenses, juvenile criminals can sometimes be tried as adults. Personally, in the beginning of
this assignment, I could see both sides of the argument. There are many reasons why children
under the age of 18 should be tried as children, however, there are more proficient reasons as to
why we should do away with juvenile court. Many of my peers do not think this, however, they are
keen on keeping children tried as children. I truly cannot fathom the good that... Show more content

driver of that car was drinking while driving. The driver of this car was 17 years old. Does that

consequence need to be put into action. Let s flip the story though. Instead of a 17 year old
driving drinking, let s make it a 30 year old. Now, when this case hits the news, everyone will be

There is nothing wrong with the system, just the imbeciles that enter it.

Bureaucracy In The Military
The military is not a bureaucracy in and of itself, but contains bureaucracy. In fact, it is around 90%
bureaucracy, by pure manpower numbers. Let me come back to that.
A simpler way to think of what is a bureaucracy is to think of what is a bureaucrat: a bureaucrat is
any person in a secondary or tertiary function within an organization. For example, in an
architectural firm, you have principal architects, staff architects, intern architects, accountants, and
administrators (I am ignoring the CA and PM functions for this example). All of the architects
primarily do design work, that is the function of the firm. The principals also do some marketing,
which is really a secondary function, so they are part bureaucrat and part functionary. The... Show

We want people to enforce rules set up by the laws created by congress, and we want them to be
objective, so we set up hiring rules, you can t just hire your brother, cousin, friend, whomever, you
must go through a strict process. We want a bureaucracythat is essentially a political, specifically
NOT beholden to the ruling party (everyone has political preferences, but we do not want the
bureaucracy to be politically motivated). We want the rules to be followed objectively, so you
can t tell food processing plant A that their process is unsafe or unhealthy, but plant B can use
that process just because your brother, cousin, friend, or whomever, works there. And that is just
the tip of the iceberg. We live in a democracy, where the government must answer to the people.
This means someone has to sit down and make reports about how money is being spent, or how
effective a program is; we want oversight and audits to ensure the money is spent the way it is
being reported, that programs are being administered objectively; we want to ensure that no one
bureaucrat has too much power. All these things mean we have to hire people whose job is
something other than the primary function of government, so we have layers of bureaucracy

Health Disparities Among Homeless Women And Their Children
Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Geraldine Barron
Denver School of Nursing
Cohort C Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Health care disparities is known for its vulnerability among low income and minority status
populations. Of most concern are the vulnerable population subgroups known by the harsh
environments in which they live, their endangered and unhealthy life styles and the illnesses and
injuries that afflict them. These subpopulations include refugees and immigrants, people living
with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcohol and substance abusers, high risk
mothers and infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically ill (Teruya, Longshore,
Andersen, Arangua, Nyamathi, Leake Gelberg, 2010, p.1). Among these vulnerable sub
populations, one with some of the greatest health and health care disparities, is the homeless
especially homeless women and their children (Teruya et al., 2010, p.1).
People often think that homelessness only affects men and women but in reality homelessness also
affects families It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year.
Among this group, 17 percent are single women and 30 percent are families with children (Finfgeld
Connet, 2010, p.1). It is said that women along with their children are among the fastest growing
homeless population and not only does it impact women but it also impacts their children
significantly.

Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (BIA)
Transportation is the method that a traveler uses to move from one location to another. Congested
urban environments makes transportation a challenge. Since they generally consist of high density
structures, activities and people. Due to the congested nature of urban environments, people who
live and travel in these areas generally have various methods of transportation which may include;
walking, driving a personal vehicle, riding a bike, as well as public transportation, such as trains.
The Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area (BIA), is an urban environment that too has
challenges with creating sustainable methods of transportation. To understand the various methods
to over come these challenges, this essay will discuss the transportation... Show more content on

Currently, The City of Toronto has implemented several infrastructures and services to create a
more sustainable method of transportation for individuals in urban environments, such as the
Downtown Yonge Business Improvement Area. Some of which are done by discouraging the use
of personal vehicles by limiting the numbers of parking spaces available, as well as implementing
traffic signal synchronization and ramp metering. Many of these services have improved the
congestion in Toronto significantly, however, due to the increasing population, the past
improvements are not enough. The higher population in Toronto makes the land that is available
more expensive and as a result, more people tend to have to move to new towns or suburban areas.
Therefore, cities need to improve transportation services that are already available or they must
create new and efficient transportation services to allow for better commuting (Farahani et al.,
2013). Many people who commute to Toronto tend to rely on their personal automobile. Studies
have shown that in the past two decades, travel by automobiles is the main method of
transportation used in the Global Toronto Area (Abulibdeh, 2014). This is due to variety of
reasons, some of which includes the comfort, speed and convenience one receives by driving a
vehicle. As mentioned previously, the increase in

La Llorona Loc The Other Side Essay
At the start of La Llorona Loca: The Other Side, Palacios describes growing up when her mother
would tell her scary stories about Llorona Loca. In the first paragraph we see a common theme or
image found in the Latinx cannon: the image of motherhood and tradition. Palacios mother s
retelling follows the traditional narrative of La Llorona Loca retelling in which a woman,
traditionally a mother, drowns her children and then feels remorse. Although many authors would
choose to further develop on this image, Palacios through her reflection on her up brining
demonstrates opposing views to the dominant ideology, in the way in which she critiques these
societal expectations of women. As the story continues, Palacios articulates a critique of gender
roles and expectations demonstrated through the following lines of her mothers La Llorona
retelling: The story also states that, as she wailed, she wore a long white gown. (49). The primary
reason that this particular line is so important is that it is the first demonstration of a change of
tone from our author. In the beginning lines, the author appears to be reflective, whereas in this
line she demonstrates sarcasm. There is also particular imagery of the white dress, which has a lot
of cultural/ideological symbolism. The color the dress, particularly its whiteness, symbolisms
virginity/purity, both common attributes placed upon the Latinx body. A critical eye could view
the color of the dress in the La Llorona retelling as a

How Does Josie Change Throughout The Novel
Josie Jessop, the main character in Sylvia Olsen s thought provoking book, White Girl, would be a
good fit at St. Ignatius because she possesses many characteristics which are beneficial for an SI
student, such as her ethnicity, her ability to adapt to new surroundings and situations, and the fact
that she is not easily intimidate. These characteristics are present in many SI students and would
allow Josie to jump right into the flow of things at St. Ignatius.
Josie could fit into the St. Ignatius scene for many reasons, but likely the biggest and most obvious
reason is her ethnicity. Josie, A.K.A Blondie, has blond hair and blue eyes. This description is not

Josie adapts to changes in a relatively short period of time which allows her to thrive in many
different areas. In the prologue, the readers learn that the life altering move to the reservation
was basically just sprung upon Josie and her opinion was seemingly disregarded: That s how it
was when we lived in the city, where almost everyone was like me I blended in. Then with one
move, I became a white girl, painted like a picket fence plain as day, whiter than white
(Prologue). By no means was Josie s life pre reservation easy, her economic/social status placed
her and her mom as white trash, yet it was easier in the big city then on the res. In the city
everyone looked like her, everyone talked like her, and did similar things, but on the res no one
looked like her. On the reservation she was the outcast, different from everyone but that didn t stop
her from making friends or going to school. Josie s mom, Lenore is the one who has more trouble
adapting to the new surroundings, and this results in Josie taking the lead in terms of upholding
the family image and making new family friends. At the end of the book, Josie sounds as if she
has lived on the reservation her whole life: June 21 was mom and Martin s first anniversary... An
open invitation, to the family, and anyone else who wanted to attend... And I want you to invite
your friends, I want everyone to come (Chapter 17). At the beginning of the book, Josie

Although by the end of the nineteenth century China s population has reached millions, most
Chinese peasants had never encountered foreigners or Western missionaries. Nevertheless, the
Boxers held a strong belief that foreigners and Christian missionaries were responsible for the
breakdown in the fabric of simple Chinese peasant society and they dishonored their traditional
spiritual and community. Because the missionaries are protected by the flag and Treaty of
Tientsin, they have the right to rent and buy land to build churches and allowing them to move

Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings
Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now
considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the
research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest
quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the
practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United
States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in
practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care.
Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs are reduced and there is a reduction in
differences in delivery of care according to geographic area (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011).
Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making
clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while
research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original
research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In
research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates research
findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate

2.1 ARCHITECTURE OF A GEOLOCATIONSYSTEM
An example of geolocation system architecture [KOS00] is shown in Figure. As we said earlier,
in order to fix a call the subscriber we are calling must be located accurately. A geolocation
service provider provides location information and location aware services to subscribers. Upon
a request from a subscriber for location information about an MS, the service provider will
contact a location control center querying it for the coordinates of the MS. This subscriber could
be a commercial subscriber desiring to track a mobile device or a PSAP trying to answer an E
911 call. The location control center will gather information required to compute the MS s
location. This information could be parameters such as received signal strength, BTS ID, TOA of
signals, and so on that we discuss later. Depending on past information about the MS, a set of BS
s could be used to page the MS, and directly or indirectly obtain the location parameters. These are
sometimes called Geolocation base stations (GBSs). Once this information is collected, the location
control center can determine the location of the mobile with certain accuracy and convey this
information to the service provider. The service provider will then use this information to visually
display the MS s location to the subscriber. Sometimes the subscriber could be the MS itself, in
which case the messaging and

What A Genogram Is More Than A Family Tree
Introduction
A genogram is more than a family tree. It is a visual interpretation of a family and their
relationships. A genogram says a lot about a family. It uses symbols to describe the relationships
between family members. One can use a genogram to tell the dynamics of a family. Sometimes,
there are patterns that are passed down generation to generation. The purpose of this paper is to go
into more detail about what a genogram is and what it means. Also, I have provided a genogram of
my family on the last page. I will spend most of the time talking about my family and what our
genogram means. Different people in my family have different relationships with one another.
There are several characteristics I see that have been passed down.
Genograms Genograms provide one way to envision intergenerational transmissions. A genogram is
a multigenerational family tree that depicts familial relationships visually. It records information
about social relationships and biological and psychological issues in the family across three or
more generations (Galvin, Bylund Grill, 2010). There are different symbols that mean different
things in a relationship. Men are represented by squares and women are represented by circles.
Three lines means that there is a close relationship, a dotted line means the the relationship is
distant, and a zigzag line means the relationship is conflictual. The power of multigenerational
transmission is part of a puzzle that is unfolding

George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay
Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s
Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of
Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations
that occur among animals. The state of communismthat Marx and Friedrich Engelsdescribe is where
the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no
one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx
greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored
Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is
only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the
end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm
had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in
reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal.
The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men
with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would
overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. He focused on arousing the animals
emotionally and didn t mention any practical reasons to help solve their issues. However,

Handwriting v Typing
The process of reading and writing involves a number of senses, she explains. When writing by
hand, our brain receives feedback from our motor actions, together with the sensation of touching a
pencil and paper. These kinds of feedback is significantly different from those we receive when
touching and typing on a keyboard.
Learning by doing
Together with neurophysiologist Jean Luc Velay at the University of Marseille, Anne Mangen has
written an article published in the Advances in Haptics periodical. They have examined research
which goes a long way in confirming the significance of these differences.

A lack of focus
There is a lot of research on haptics in relation to computer games, in which for instance vibrating
hand controls are employed. According to Mangen, virtual drills with sound and vibration are used
for training dentists.
But there has been very little effort to include haptics within the humanistic disciplines, she
explains. In educational science, there is scant interest in the ergonomics of reading and writing, and
its potential significance in the learning process.
Mangen refers to an experiment involving two groups of adults, in which the participants were
assigned the task of having to learn to write in an unknown alphabet, consisting of approximately
twenty letters. One group was taught to write by hand, while the other was using a keyboard.
Three and six weeks into the experiment, the participants recollection of these letters, as well as
their rapidity in distinguishing right and reversed letters, were tested. Those who had learned the
letters by handwriting came out best in all tests. Furthermore, fMRI brain scans indicated an
activation of the Broca s area within this group. Among those who had learned by typing on
keyboards, there was little or no activation of this area.
The sensorimotor component forms an integral part of training for beginners, and in special
education for people with learning difficulties. But there is little awareness and understanding of
the importance of handwriting to the learning

War in the Nuclear Era
Addressing the question of whether war is a rational decision or a mistake is important to
understand the causes of war and explain the reduction in the number of wars fought among
countries in today s nuclear era. The argument, under which war is a mistake, is a normative claim
about what action states should have chosen, based on the outcomes that have been produced. That
is, for a decision to be good, it needs to have produced the actor s preferred outcome. However, the
mistake perspective is problematic under the uncertainty and competitiveness of the anarchic
international political system.
The rational theory provides a better alternative. In this paper, the rational theory of war will unfold
by beginning with an understanding of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States pay attention to the long term as well as the immediate consequences of their actions.
Therefore, the value of going to war is the outcome for which a state would settle through
bargaining. Thus, for any deal to prevent war, each state must decide that they prefer the deal to
fighting a war. Mistake advocators will be quick to point out that the utility maximizing perspective
might be problematic since the theory does not include uncertainty in its evaluation of costs and
benefits. However, accepting this criticism will not undermine the rational perspective. The utility
maximizing theory is only the simplified first step in assessing the rationality of a state decision to
fight a war.
That being said, this vision of rationality accounts in part for the reduction in the number of wars
fought between countries now compared to the past. Nuclear technology and mutually assured
destruction have elevated the cost of war to such an extent that it is now almost impossible for the
benefits to outweigh the costs of nuclear warfare. Thus, the main interest in security has shifted the
rational utility maximizing states policy from winning to avoiding wars.

The Crime Picture Differs From The Boy Crime, Picture, And...
Youth who are accused of crimes are often older males. In fact, of all youth court cases reported
in 2008 09, 72 percent involved males, while 21 percent involved females (Kong and AuCoin,
2008). The gender of the offender was not reported in seven percent of the cases. This paper will
explain how the girl crimepicture differs from the boy crime picture, and show the extent the
differences that appear to be increasing/decreasing over time. While it is clear that females are
accused of crimes less frequently than boys, the ratio shift depending on the type of crime.
Girl Crime Picture Female youth account for just one out of every five people who are accused
by the police in the Criminal Code offenses in Canada (Kong, 2008). This has been a reality for
some time now. This low crime rate among females resulted in little being known about female
offenders and their motives. The low rate also means women and girls who commit crimes face a
Canadian criminal justice system that is primarily designed to deal with male offenders (Kong,
2008). It is precisely the relatively small number of women and girls who commit crimes that
creates a need to regularly monitor trends in offending patterns among females, trends that become
masked by the larger male population if not examined separately (Kong, 2008). Various crime
prevention strategies can use the trends in female and male crime patterns. The information can be

because it is an extension of the land grant universities. It is currently the largest adult education

development of Cooperative Extension. Land grant universities were started because of the Morrill

Evaluation practices were most likely instigated by external pressure from the public to validate
results and ensure program quality (Rennekamp and Engle, 2008). Cooperative Extension programs
realized that a large portion of the financial support they received was funding that involved the
public. In order to keep receiving funding, they had to adapt and make changes to their program to
ensure the public was getting what they wanted and had their questions answered. Cooperative
Extension as a whole adapted evaluation, but due to the multitudes of program provided by them
and the difference of demand depending on the location, how they went about evaluating

How Does Benjamin Franklin Contribute To Morality
People all over the world like to believe they have a good moral compass and are capable of
making honorable, ethical decisions. Arriving at moral perfection is not something everyone strives
for, but Benjamin Franklin is an exception to that. In The Autobiography by Benjamin Franklin, he
explicitly explained that he was striving for moral perfection, specifically, he strived for perfection
through religionand faith. He went on to explain this idea throughout his autobiography, which
leads to morality and religion becoming two major themes in his book. While reading Franklin,
we can see that what is important to him is being moral and doing things for the right reason, not
because everyone else is doing them. By living a moral life, Franklin only follows ideas and beliefs
that align with being honorable and helping others. Benjamin Franklindid not shy away from
expressing his religion and what he believed in, rather he stated it clearly so everybody knew his
religious beliefs. One very clear example of this, is when he says, I soon became a thorough Deist

Later on in his autobiography, Franklin listed virtues which he strived to achieve and used to guide
his life in the right direction. All of these virtues made up how he believed he should live his life,
showing once again, how he lived a morally fulfilled life. One of the most important, and hardest,
virtues is humility. When Franklin states this virtue, he ties it in to religion again. For humility he
states, Imitate Jesus and Socrates (P. 535). Though Franklin did connect religion and his virtues,
he did feel that the list of virtues was more important than any organized religion. To him, if you
live your life according to these virtues then you are living a good, honorable life. However, living
a religious life does not necessarily mean also living a virtuous

Approaches Of The Classical And Human Relations...
There are hundreds of thousands of different approaches within the Classical and Human Relations
environment and management field. Many of these approaches are similar and compatible in
nature, and as well have various looks that show their differences and incompatibilities. Let s
explore how these organizations use systems and theories in their everyday work life and discover
the incompatibilities between each of the approaches.
Classic Management and its Structure
The definition of Classical management states that it is a result of the early attempts to
formalize principles for a growing number of professional managers (Jeliniek, 2005) . Mariann
Jeliniek, Henri Fayol, and Frederick Winslow Taylor are all seen as the forefathers of classical
management (Parker and Ritson, 2005). Classical theory sought rationality and order in the
workplace, and worked through what they had called the one best way, which is what they had
thought was the most logical division of labor, appropriate structure to relate the activities, the
correct amount of control for directing activities, and as well the proper allocation of responsibility
designated to a proper authority. These three classical theorists asserted their insights and became
universally applicable to all organizations. To help ensure there was efficiency in the workplace
there had to be specialized labor, proper direction and coordination, and effective planning in an
organization.

Elizabethan Poor Law Essay
The Elizabethan Poor Law was passed in 1601. This law enforced all church communities to
annually on Easter select a couple of head supervisors over the indigent. They were not
compensated for their time. Usually those chosen did not want the position but they were
supervised making sure that they were doing the work. This law helped keep order during that era
and reduced the beggars and povertystricken in the streets. There were two kinds of help the
outdoor and indoor help. The outdoor help meant that if the needy still had their place of residence
then they could acquire some cash or obtain needed clothing or food. Outdoor help was most
commonly used during these times. Indoor help was when a family was taken to a community

Have you ever heard of Hot Wheels? Or Monster High? Or Fisher Price? These are all creations of

Barbie is a doll manufactured by Mattel and was launched in March 1959. An American lady named

While she was there, she came across a doll called Bild Lilli. This was exactly what Ruth wanted
so she bought three of them. She gave one to her daughter and took the rest back to Mattel. The Lilli
doll was first sold in Germany in 1955, and although it was initially sold to adults, it soon became
popular with children who enjoyed dressing her up.
When, Handler returned to the United States, she remodelled the design of the Lilli doll and the
doll was named Barbie, after her daughter, Barbara. This new doll made its debut at the American
International Toy Fair in New York on March the 9th, 1959. This date is also used as Barbie s
official birthday.
Mattel needed the rights of the Bild Lilli doll and in 1964 the production of Bild Lilli dolls was
stopped. The first Barbie doll was wearing a black and white striped swimsuit with a topknot
ponytail and was available in either blonde or brunette. The doll was marketed as a Teen age

Rap Music Thesis
Rap music is art, just as any other genre of music is. It talks about back roads and mothers just as
country music does. Its sounds can be as soothing and calming as any jazz or lounge music. It
can be loud and just as angry as any heavy metal or rock and roll. With DJ s and MC s it can be
just as technotic as any form of dubstep. In short, rap music can take on all genres that humanity
has managed to conjure up in the past few centuries. It can talk of anything going on in society
today with topics such as gay rights or racism between the black communities. Rap is a form of
expression and release and in today s society rap music is being pushed down for simply telling and
showing the world the way it really is growing up with a hard life. Many rappers such as Ice
Cube, Dr Dre, and even Eminem are being downgraded, all for telling their stories and showing
the truth to the world. When you go someplace and order a coffee, you ll... Show more content on

Literature is often said to be used as a means of reflecting the times, society and climate the author is in and experiencing. Values, norms the ethos of a particular culture place or time is often interpreted through its literature. The device causes digression from facts and whilst interesting and pulling in the reader further into the plot, once it is over, the reader realizes they leave the chapter with the same questions. The surreal and often detailed and vivid illustrations formed can confuse and leave the reader in a semi state of bewilderment as in the case of Maria the prostitute and her description. The harmonious tones in the background are formatted perfectly to comply with technical languid tones, to ensure his audience focuses on the lyrical message, by not unnecessarily amplifying it with the backbeats and support sounds itself. In the short story The Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin symbolism and Irony are used to show the freedom the character (Mrs. Mallard) wants from her husband. Mrs. Mallard is forced into an emotional roller coaster that eventually brings out her true feelings of freedom. The story has different symbols in the meaning of freedom to and how ironic these symbols become to Mrs. Mallard at the end of the story. For many married women marriages can be a symbol of love, unity, and fidelity until death do us part. This story gives the perspective that love was not there from Mrs. Mallard towards Mr. Mallard. Chopin description of how some women think of marriage as the fulfillment in their life, while others see it as a cage is a good example of marriage in that era. However, if individuals like Rochelle and/or Neil feel that their rights under the law of the EU in the form of a Directive and a Regulation in this instance respectively have not been respected by a Member State like the UK s national authorities then it is first necessary to bring the matter before those authorities for the purpose of resolution before having to resort to the European Court of Justice (henceforth, the ECJ) for this purpose. This is because it has generally been recognised that this will typically be both the most effective and efficient means to bring about the resolution of any matters of concern raised by parties like Rochelle and/or Neil when it comes to the interpretation and application of the law of the EU. Fugard specifically focuses on The Trial and Punishment of Antigone scene where the play climaxes. Through the use of metatheatre, he highlights the power of stage performance, in this case demonstrating Winston s action in the play within a play has abilities to transcend through reality and affect us, the audience. This is done by creating an intentional slippage between the division level of reality, the stage and the stage on stage. Let me come back to that. A simpler way to think of what is a bureaucracy is to think of what is a bureaucrat: a bureaucrat is any person in a secondary or tertiary function within an organization. For example, in an architectural firm, you have principal architects, staff architects, intern architects, accountants, and administrators (I am ignoring the CA and PM functions for this example). In the first paragraph we see a common theme or image found in the Latinx cannon: the image of motherhood and tradition. Palacios mother s retelling follows the traditional narrative of La Llorona Loca retelling in which a woman, traditionally a mother, drowns her children and then feels remorse. Although many authors would choose to further develop on this image, Palacios through her reflection on her up brining demonstrates opposing views to the dominant ideology, in the way in which she critiques these societal expectations of women. As the story continues, Palacios articulates a critique of gender roles and expectations demonstrated through the following lines of her mothers La Llorona retelling: The story also states that, as she wailed, she wore a long white gown. In the beginning lines, the author appears to be reflective, whereas in this line she demonstrates sarcasm. There is also particular imagery of the white dress, which has a lot of cultural/ideological symbolism. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care. Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate ... The demise of the Tokugawa period and the unsettling establishment of the Meiji Restoration remained fresh in people s memories. The transformation of the former Samurai class into paragons of civic society was already well established and the abolition of the four feudal classes emancipated and liberated the nation. As we said earlier, in order to fix a call the subscriber we are calling must be located accurately. A geolocation service provider provides location information and location aware services to subscribers. Upon a request from a subscriber for location information about an MS, the service provider will contact a location control center querying it for the coordinates of the MS. This subscriber could be a commercial subscriber desiring to track a mobile device or a PSAP trying to answer an E 911 call. The location control center will gather information required to compute the MS s location. This information could be parameters such as received signal strength, BTS ID, TOA of signals, and so on that we discuss later. Depending on past information about the MS, a set of BS s could be used to page the MS, and directly or indirectly obtain the location parameters. These are sometimes called Geolocation base stations (GBSs). Once this information is collected, the location control center can determine the location of the mobile with certain accuracy and convey this information to the service provider. The service provider will then use this information to visually display the MS s location to the subscriber. Sometimes the subscriber could be the MS itself, in which case the messaging and ... • 29. What A Genogram Is More Than A Family Tree Introduction A genogram is more than a family tree. It is a visual interpretation of a family and their relationships. A genogram says a lot about a family. It uses symbols to describe the relationships between family members. One can use a genogram to tell the dynamics of a family. Sometimes, there are patterns that are passed down generation to generation. The purpose of this paper is to go into more detail about what a genogram is and what it means. Also, I have provided a genogram of my family on the last page. I will spend most of the time talking about my family and what our genogram means. Different people in my family have different relationships with one another. There are several characteristics I see that have been passed down. Genograms Genograms provide one way to envision intergenerational transmissions. A genogram is a multigenerational family tree that depicts familial relationships visually. It records information about social relationships and biological and psychological issues in the family across three or more generations (Galvin, Bylund Grill, 2010). There are different symbols that mean different things in a relationship. Men are represented by squares and women are represented by circles. Three lines means that there is a close relationship, a dotted line means the the relationship is distant, and a zigzag line means the relationship is conflictual. The power of multigenerational transmission is part of a puzzle that is unfolding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. George Orwell s Animal Farm Essay Karl Marx, writer of Communist Manifesto, is represented as an old, wise pig in George Orwell s Animal Farm. Because Orwell is a democratic socialist and does not accept the ideologies of Marxism, he reveals the reality of communism and reflects his opinions through sardonic situations that occur among animals. The state of communismthat Marx and Friedrich Engelsdescribe is where the state is abolished, people live in a society where members work together in agreement and no one is exploited, and every member shares the rewards of hard work. The envisions of Marx greatly contrasted with the plot of Animal Farm. Old Major, a pig, had a dream that mirrored Marx and his dream of communism. This dream is ironic because it suggests that communism is only a dream. The Soviet Union s policies were seen as steps to reach communism, rather than the end result of communism, in which all animals of the farm endured. The characters in animal farm had to pass through this in between stage before becoming a complete communist society, and in reality they remained in this stage and believed they were close to their goal. The animals, who were the laborers, fulfilled Old Major s wish and overthrew the capitalistic men with a revolution, much like how Marx and Engels hoped for the day the Proletarians would overthrow the Bourgeois, the owners of private property. Learning by doing Together with neurophysiologist Jean Luc Velay at the University of Marseille, Anne Mangen has written an article published in the Advances in Haptics periodical. In educational science, there is scant interest in the ergonomics of reading and writing, and its potential significance in the learning process. Mangen refers to an experiment involving two groups of adults, in which the participants were assigned the task of having to learn to write in an unknown alphabet, consisting of approximately twenty letters. One group was taught to write by hand, while the other was using a keyboard. Three and six weeks into the experiment, the participants recollection of these letters, as well as their rapidity in distinguishing right and reversed letters, were tested. Those who had learned the letters by handwriting came out best in all tests. Furthermore, fMRI brain scans indicated an activation of the Broca s area within this group. Among those who had learned by typing on keyboards, there was little or no activation of this area. War in the Nuclear Era Addressing the question of whether war is a rational decision or a mistake is important to understand the causes of war and explain the reduction in the number of wars fought among countries in today s nuclear era. The argument, under which war is a mistake, is a normative claim about what action states should have chosen, based on the outcomes that have been produced. That is, for a decision to be good, it needs to have produced the actor s preferred outcome. However, the mistake perspective is problematic under the uncertainty and competitiveness of the anarchic international political system. The rational theory provides a better alternative. States pay attention to the long term as well as the immediate consequences of their actions. Therefore, the value of going to war is the outcome for which a state would settle through bargaining. Thus, for any deal to prevent war, each state must decide that they prefer the deal to fighting a war. Mistake advocators will be quick to point out that the utility maximizing perspective might be problematic since the theory does not include uncertainty in its evaluation of costs and benefits. However, accepting this criticism will not undermine the rational perspective. The utility maximizing theory is only the simplified first step in assessing the rationality of a state decision to fight a war. That being said, this vision of rationality accounts in part for the reduction in the number of wars fought between countries now compared to the past. Nuclear technology and mutually assured destruction have elevated the cost of war to such an extent that it is now almost impossible for the benefits to outweigh the costs of nuclear warfare. In fact, of all youth court cases reported in 2008 09, 72 percent involved males, while 21 percent involved females (Kong and AuCoin, 2008). The gender of the offender was not reported in seven percent of the cases. This paper will explain how the girl crimepicture differs from the boy crime picture, and show the extent the differences that appear to be increasing/decreasing over time. While it is clear that females are accused of crimes less frequently than boys, the ratio shift depending on the type of crime. Girl Crime Picture Female youth account for just one out of every five people who are accused by the police in the Criminal Code offenses in Canada (Kong, 2008). This has been a reality for some time now. This low crime rate among females resulted in little being known about female offenders and their motives. The low rate also means women and girls who commit crimes face a Canadian criminal justice system that is primarily designed to deal with male offenders (Kong, 2008). It is precisely the relatively small number of women and girls who commit crimes that creates a need to regularly monitor trends in offending patterns among females, trends that become masked by the larger male population if not examined separately (Kong, 2008). Various crime prevention strategies can use the trends in female and male crime patterns. The information can be used to assess the responses by the justice and the social ... He went on to explain this idea throughout his autobiography, which leads to morality and religion becoming two major themes in his book. By living a moral life, Franklin only follows ideas and beliefs that align with being honorable and helping others. Mariann Jeliniek, Henri Fayol, and Frederick Winslow Taylor are all seen as the forefathers of classical management (Parker and Ritson, 2005). Classical theory sought rationality and order in the workplace, and worked through what they had called the one best way, which is what they had thought was the most logical division of labor, appropriate structure to relate the activities, the correct amount of control for directing activities, and as well the proper allocation of responsibility designated to a proper authority.
