Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the collection of physical measurements in a
geographical area. It tracks the spatial average of the sensor measurements in a region. Since it is
highly vulnerable to sensor faults and measurement noise the average operation is not robust. In
this paper the proposed computational efficient method is used to compute a weight average of
sensor measurement. It takes consideration of sensor faults and sensor noise. WSN uses random
projections of sensor to compress data and send the compressed data to the data fusion center. The
computation efficient method uses the data fusion center for direct work with the compressed data
stream. The fusion center performed decompression at the time of computed weighted average.
Thus, it reduces the computational requirements. Hence the proposed method gives better accuracy
and more efficient for the WSN.
Keywords Wireless sensor network, compressive sensing, distributed compressive sensing, fault
tolerance, data fusion, robust averaging.

Federalist 10 Paper
FEDERALIST #10
This paper is considered an important document in American history for it lays out how the writers
of the constitution defined the form of government that would protect minority rights from
organized and united factions that intended to pass legislation injurious to the liberty of the
minority or detrimental to the good of the country.
The Federalist Papers, were a series of eighty five essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay,
and James Madison between October 1787 and May 1788. The essays were published
anonymously, under the pen name Publius, primarily in two New York state newspapers of the
time: The New York Packet and The Independent Journal.

With pure democracy he means a system in which every citizen vote directly for laws. And with
republic he intends a society in which citizens vote for an elite of representatives who then vote
for laws. He indicates that the voice of the people pronounced by a body of representatives is more
conformable to the interest of the community. Because again, common people s decisions are
affected by their self interest.
Then he makes an argument in favor of a large republic against a small republic for the choice of
fit characters to represent the public s voice. In a large republic where the number of voters and
candidates is greater, the probability to elect competent representatives is broader. The voters
have a wider option. In a small republic it would also be easier for the candidates to fool the voters,
while in a large one, harder.
The last argument Madison makes in favor of a large republic is, in a small republic there will
be a lower variety of interests and parties, so more frequently a majority will be found. The
number of participants of that majority, will be lower, and considering they live in a more
limited territory, it would be easier for them to agree and work together for the accomplishment
of their ideas. While in a large republic the variety of interests will be greater so to make it harder
to find a majority. Even if there is a majority it would be harder for them to

Don Delillo s White Noise And The Dismantlement Of Filters
White Noise and the Dismantlement of Filters Don Delillo s White Noise is a hyper real disaster
novel based around the central concept of revealing the ubiquitous and invisible distractions which
permeate society. These distractions are normally filtered out before they are even considered by a
person. Everyday a person who is exposed to the public encounters a nigh infinite amount of
advertisements, ideas, noises, and stimuli that are not consciously considered. These stimuli are not
given thought, however, they still have an effect. Delillo takes these unconsidered stimuli, which
are normally resigned to the background, and uses them as the centerpiece for his work. By doing
this he forces the reader to consider these stimuli on a conscious... Show more content on

This is a seemingly arbitrary description of a mundane daily occurrence placed between scenes of
action. The narrator, Jack, goes from contemplating the intricacies of death, to describing the
packaging of foods within the supermarket, using only an out of place phrase as a transition.
Delillo does this to draw attention to the daily occurrences that are ignored. Everything he
describes, whether it s the, white package of bacon without a plastic window for viewing a
representative slice (18), or the blue jeans tumbling in the dryer, is part of the massive amount of
information that must constantly be processed by denizens of a first world society. The jarring
nature with which he places these phrases forces the reader to view them not as background
information, but instead as something more. They are made to stick out. Delillo hopes to use this
technique to make the reader consider how much information is relevant. It is not outlandish to
have blue jeans in a dryer, nor is it strange to know they are in the dryer, however, to consciously
consider this information and what it means is very strange. While the blue jeans are an innocuous
example of the information that is constantly floating around in the background of life, DeLillo
goes on to illustrate more lethal

The Sorceress Research Paper
The sorceress has told me many stories about you and how she was so easily able to take me away
from you. I am now 12 years of age and my hair has grown to be very long and beautiful. The
sorceress uses my hair as a rope for her to get up into a tower that she has locked me in. I can see
your hut from the tippy top of my tower and you seem to be doing well. I always wonder to
myself, though, how were my parents so easily able to give me up? I understand that the
sorceress has powers that are evil beyond belief, but you couldn t have tried to fight a bit more to
keep your child? My life in the tower is very boring and I have the same routine every day: wake

Not A Hoof Left Behind Mark Twain
NOT A HOOF LEFT BEHIND
Mark Twain says that early in his life he moved to a mining town in Colorado. The town was
wide open with brothels and bars on every corner. Twain says, I immediately recognized it was no
place for a Christian so I decided not to be one. Many people have imitated Twain s response.
When they find it hard to be a Christian, they either quit trying to be one or they compromise their
convictions.
Jesus directs some of His harshest words toward the sin of compromise embodied in the
doctrines of Balaam and the Nicolaitans in the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12 17). Both doctrines
were efforts to adjust Christianity to the level of the world rather than lift the world to the level of
Christianity. They taught the people to go along in order to get along, in short, to compromise.
However, Jesus says he hates the doctrine (2:15), and the Scriptures warn us repeatedly against it
(2 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 12:2; 2 Tim. 2:19).
Pharaoh s dealing with Moses is a classic example of how the devil uses compromise to thwart
God s children from reaching the Promised Land (Ex. 8:25 10:26). At God s orders, Moses and
Aaron demand that Pharaoh release every family and tribe of Israel out of Egypt. Pharaoh does
not wish to grant any part of their request, but sees he is going to have to yield to some extent. He
feels, however, that he can save his dignity and protect his own interests by yielding less than what
is demanded. On four occasions, he offers to compromise.
First, God

Strategic Management Tools
TOPIC 2
Give a critical consideration of five strategic management process tools and their contribution to
strategic management and strategic thinking.
It has been argued that management needs the resources to create core competencies to develop a
strategy that has sustainable competitive advantage (Marti, 2004, p1), so the definition of a strategy
as an integrated and coordinated set of commitments and actions designed to exploit core
competencies and gain a competitive advantage fits this argument. The strategic management
process follows the lines of strategy, while also earning above average returns (Hanson et al, 2008,
p4, 25). Strategy, strategic management, and strategic thinking are all important factors that ... Show

It could then measure the results against the same period for the year before, and assess where the
company is doing profiting, as well where improvement is needed. In addition, financial ratio
analysis can be used to evaluate where a company is positioned against its competitors.
Benchmarking is the identification of best practices among competitors and non competitors that
make them superior performers (Stone, 2006, p650); the practice of comparing a company to a
standard set by other companies, with a view toward improvement (Horngren et al, 2008, p90). A
large number of firms within Australia and the rest of the world are now applying benchmarking
to their organisation, particularly when it comes to managing the human resources (HR).
Benchmarking serves a number of purposes: it enables managers to audit how effectively HR
meets the needs of the organisation; it enables an organisation to learn from those who excel in
an HR practice; it identifies HR areas where performance can be improved; and it can be used to
create a need for change (Stone, 2006, p623).
Benchmarking can be linked with financial statement and ratio analysis, which was discussed
previously, in that by comparing it with other company s financial statements, it can benchmark
against the industry average as well as against key

The Fall Of Singapore
The Fall of Singapore to the Japanese happened on the 15th February 1942 and is thought to be
one of the greatest defeats in the entire history of the British Army and most likely Britain s
worst defeat in all of World War 2. Singapore was considered to be a major part of the British
Empire and it was thought to be as strong as a fortress. Improvement s to Singapore as a British
military base had only been completed in 1938, a mere 4 years before the fall of Singapore. On
the 8th February 1942, the Japanese attacked across the Johor Strait. Many of the Allied fighters
were simply too far away to have any influence on the battle as they were spread out along the
112 kilometer coastline. They were also kept away from the battle as it was feared that the
Japanese would make another attack further along the coastline. The Japanese took 100,000 men
prisoner in Singapore, of which 9,000 died. It was on the 15th February 1942 on which General
Percival, who was the British commander in Singapore, called for a ceasefire and made the
decision to surrender.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Comparison of Two Advertisements Essay

advertisement from Style is for Clinique Autumn 2004 close up on lips: modern metallics .
All advertisements are aimed at specific target audiences and as such require different ideas,
linguistic devices and presentational features to attract them. The two advertisements I have chosen
have different target audiences, reflected by the magazines that they come from, the language they
use and the visuals.

This plays with words as it says close up on lips and the image is of close up lips with lipstick on.
In the L Oreal Paris advertisement the slogan is 10 lively colours to make your look pulse as
often as you want! This is different from their usual slogan because you re worth it as they are
just talking about the colour pulse hair die, so they wanted a slogan to link in with the product.
The slogan is effective because the words lively and pulse make it sound alive and the words you
and your make it sound like they are talking to you in person. Also, at the end of the slogan is an
exclamation mark which makes it seem exciting.
The two advertisements both have copy but in the Clinique one it is much longer because it is
aimed at an older target audience who are more interested in the copy content. The Advertisement
aimed at the younger target audience has less copy, containing just the most important facts,
because the visual impact is more to this age group.
The L Oreal Paris advertisement states that it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos . This is an
example of weasel words because they are not giving an exact figure but a range. This helps
advertisers avoid making untrue statements about a product, words like probably and almost which
sound like they are not entirely certain.

with robots. There are instances where people make robots for a living, or program a type of

robots is because of movies. A lot of movies depict robots as being mechanical creatures that
somehow upsets the balance of earth and cause mass destruction, or is depicted as serving their
masters. We often think about industrial robots. This is mainly because of industrial plants. We
think of them as taking over our jobs. For instance, the movie Wall e depicts an industrial robot

humanoid robots are made for different types of interactions. Some humanoid robots are especially

The Importance Of An Ecosystem
An ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical
environment. An ecosystem consists of biotic factors and abiotic factors. The biotic factors of
an ecosystem are the living organisms, while the abiotic factors of an ecosystem are the
temperature, climate, sun, and the weather. The ecosystem being researched is the Great Barrier
Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located right off of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has around
400 types of coral and 1,500 species of fish. It has more than 3000 different reef systems. The
Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of the world, and for good reason. On the Great
Barrier Reef lives the Whitetip Reef Shark, Triaenodon Obesus, prefers to eat crabs and octopi,
as well as other animals of the sea. The scientific name for the octopus is Octopoda. The
relationship between the Whitetip and the octopus is an example of predation. Predation is the
preying of one animal on other animals. The species of octopi are usually mostly carnivores,
although some are omnivores. The Whitetip Reef Shark species is also a carnivorous species.
Another organism that lives on the reef is the sea cucumber. The sea cucumber, or Holothuroidea,
is a decomposer that lives on the reef floor and eats animal wastes as it crawls along. A threat to
the reef, specifically the coral, is the Acanthaster planci, otherwise known as the crown of thorns
starfish. This starfish is a predator to the coral because it eats the live

Tijuana Summary
Questions Derived from Moral Landscaping
Ian Bogost investigated how games could teach particular procedures and practical systems to
players. But Julian Dibbel s investigation in Tijuana revealed how players could transform
procedures into self serving, manipulative machines. Profiteering is likely not the lesson Bogost or
Epistemic Games for that matter hoped to teach players. But what is the difference between
Epistemic Games transferring players power into solutions to real life problems and Blacksnow
transferring power into real life profit? Simply stated, it is the players motivation. More complexly
stated, a game like Candy Crush commits no moral error by placing players into a work based
system of economic growth.

And are these games really just simulations of real life? This would make sense since games now
have real life applications and implications. But all things considered, the difference between a
game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one s definition of each term. If the
difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty
might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the
still in development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill automatically turn
a game into a simulation? Perhaps every game is a low stakes simulation of its real life
counterparts. Pit, then, is a non digital, non profit simulation of stock market trading...that is, of
course, unless one started playing for money. Then, does the inclusion of money turn a game into a
simulation, or even into work? These terms are debatable. What is clear is the driving factor
behind why games are made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the
desire for profit.
The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit.
Whether other companies design games for other uses to teach or to problem solve is outside the
scope of what the industry (not so much the indie developers) prides itself on. King wants to make
money for its product; that is common sense. Whether the company makes money on the front

Example Of Computer Assisted Assessment
Computer Assisted assessment (CAA) is a common term for the use of computers in the assessment
of student learning. Various other forms exist, such as Computer Aided Assessment, computerized
assessment, Computer Based assessment (CBA) and computer based testing. Online Computer
Based Assessment has existed for a long time in the form of Multiple ChoiceQuestions (MCQ s).
Computer Based Assessment is commonly directly made via a computer, whereas Computer
Assisted Assessment is used to manage or support the assessment process. Examples are the optical
mark reader used to score MCQs and database programs used to record student marks. Computer
Assisted Assessment is typically formative, in that it helps students to discover whether they have
learned what the educator intended and provide timely feedback on how best to teach a subject.

by testing for pre knowledge. Assessment techniques are usually either norm referenced or
criterion referenced. Norm referenced assesses an individual s performance in relation to the
norms established by a peer group. Criterion referenced occurs when a student is assessed on his
or her ability to meet a required level of skill or competence. Computer Assisted Assessment is
usually criterion referenced. Well written computer assisted testing is more likely to be objective
testing: testing that can be marked objectively and thus offer high reliability. The benefit is that the
tests can be marked quickly and easily, and adapted to meet a wide range of learning outcomes.
Tests have the potentials to incorporate a wide range of media, to link online assessments to
feedback, to incorporate hints into test questions, to assign other learning activities based on the
test result, to make randomized selection can be made from large question banks, to be

Theme Of Colors In The Great Gatsby
Colors are more than just sensations of the eye, they possess literary purpose. The world without
colors would be dull and uninteresting. They are used for more than just a visual explanation,
colors are extremely symbolic and can mean a lot of different things. For example, there are five
colors on the Olympic rings, blue, black, red, yellow, and green. Every flag in the world has at least
one of those colors on it, establishing unity throughout the countries, while they come together to
compete in the games. In life and literature, anything can be described, symbolized and
characterized using color. In The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald, colors are used to create a
deep description of objects and scenes in the book, portray different themes, and characterize the
unique figures throughout the novel. To begin, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses the color green to
symbolize Gatsby s hopes, dreams, and jealousy. The first time green is used is at the end of
chapter one while describing Nick s sight of Gatsby reaching forward toward the green light at
the end of Daisy s dock. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single
green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock (Fitzgerald, 24).
Although it seems small, the green light is a big symbol throughout The Great Gatsby. In Gatsby s
eyes, the green light just represents Daisy, who is his lifelong pursuit and dream (Zhang, 4). Gatsby
believes if he makes enough money and

Though line 1 and the beginning of line 2, where the speaker summon[s] up remembrance (2),
describe the speaker in the temporal present, the reference to things past (2) marks the first
mention of the past occurrence for which the speaker grieves. Due to the sonnet s constant shifts
between past and present, literary critic Helen Vendler argues that Sonnet 30 participates in a
form of temporal hop scotching, whereby the poet s present self deliberately and habitually

Vendler contends that the first quatrain introduces two of five major periods of time from Sonnet
30 the speaker s present thoughts and his past losses. The wordplay in the third line, where the
speaker sigh[s] for things sought (3) spotlights this tension between past and present, as
Shakespeare [invents] a new verb (Vendler 167) to distinguish the two. In the fourth line,
Shakespeare delves deeper into his flashback, recounting his old woes (4) to depict a time of
sorrow. Similarly, the metrical variation present in Shakespeare s dear times waste (4) emphasizes
the ambiguity of the sonnet s past the poet could mean a single catastrophic event or an entire
lifetime, rendering the entire sonnet an

Mentoring In The Classroom
III.Mentoring Life is a continuous learning experience, so even those who are knowledgeable
still need someone to act as their mentors. As we continue to seek for knowledge, we become
more efficient in our chosen field or career path. Just like being a teacher, it is like a
rollercoaster ride of a colorful experience. In times when a teacher is on top, he feels like he
doesn t need anyone but when he s at the bottom, he will seek for an experienced teacher to
motivate him and bring back the momentum to him. However, no matter if you are on top or the
bottom, a teacher should always look up to someone for professional learning. Mentoring is a
teacher to motivational teacher scenario that is an effective technique for obtaining professional
development. The objectives of this strategy are to assist new teachers most especially as they
begin their career as educators and to hone the leadership ability of mentors. By using this strategy,
the expected results would be the enhancement of quality learning while developing teachers
knowledge; establishing professional learning communities and honing leadership ability within the
school. The key elements mentioned in the book were concrete and clear. First, mentors possess...

Homelessness Effect
When homeless people are faced with these factors their they will face even worse situations. In
addition, the causes and effects of homelessness are often interchangeable. This part will explain
how these factors bring the effect on individual, community and society. Homelessness damages
people s possibility and capability of motivation and it can bring emotional health problems such as
depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. A study reveals that 20 25% of homeless people,
compared with 6% of the non homeless, have severe mental illness. (National Coalition,2009). This
situation causes even more harm for women as the researchers found homeless women are more
likely to need support for mental healthproblems than men. (St Mungo s ,2016). This situation can
lead more homeless people to be alcoholics and have a high dependency on drugs. Accounting for
just over a third of all homelessnessdeaths is an abuse of drugs and alcohol. (Homelessness:... Show

negative impact on local communities as homeless people have to find some places to live and
sleep, places where they will stay can be benches outside, behind buildings, on the street and the
parks. Therefore, the brand value or image of the community can be reduced by homelessness on
the street. Unfortunately, tourists or non homeless people can feel uncomfortable or in danger
when they walk by them. In addition, Public public facilities can be abused or overused by people
in this situation.
Regardless of age and other circumstances of homelessness it is obvious that homelessness has a
huge impact on the development of society. The society has to pick up the cost for homeless
individuals to provide basic services or care services for them such as treatment of illness, mental
counseling, providing accommodation and food to eat (Impact

Do Hard Things Book Report
Do Hard Things, by Alex and Brett Harris, is a book about teenagers exceeding society s low
expectations for them. In chapter one, the brothers lead off with how this book is not your
average teen book, and how our youth generation is in need of a change. The brothers started
their own blog in the summer of 2005. The boy s blog was called The Rebelution which is
revolution and rebellion combined, and is defined as, A teenage rebellion against low
expectations. The boys first posted on their blog about The Myth of Adolescence, and how they
felt that teenage years had turned into a vacation from responsibility. The blog instantly had other
teenagers asking, Why weren t teens rising against our culture s low expectations? Alex and Brett

Another important point the brothers focus on is the power of collaboration, and how there is
strength in numbers. They give an example on how a girl named Kelsey posted on their blog
about dressing modestly, and guys point of view on girls dressing modestly. Alex, Brett, Kelsey,
and David produced an online modesty survey. The survey was a huge success, and the boys
state on how they would ve never been able to do this project alone. Small hard things are
discussed in the book and why it can be so hard to do these small tasks. Overall the main reasons
are they don t go away after you do them. These small things do not seem important and do not
make a difference because nobody is watching. The final step Alex and Brett mentioned was
taking a stand, and mentioned how to do hard things even if that meant standing alone. Eva, a
girl that lives in Germany talked about how kids in her village drank did drugs, and partied every
weekend. Eva felt that she should start living for God. In result, Eva ended up distancing herself
from her peers. Eva s friends stopped speaking to her making her feel like an outcast. This choice

Essay on Oil Export for a Unified Caspian Oil Conglomerate
Oil Export for a Unified Caspian Oil Conglomerate
Introduction
Oil resources are the focal point of almost all international disputes in the present century as every
country needs oil to power its electrical grids, run its automobiles, and operate its machinery. The
vast majority of accessible oil lies in the extremely unstable Middle East, whose countries form
most of OPEC and have a viable monopoly on oil production and pricing. The troubles caused by
this situation thus come to no surprise as high demand and monopolistic supply give omnipotent
control to the supplier.
The Caspian Sea region is seen by some as a possible answer to the problems of OPEC control.

The New Foundation Of The National Government
After the Philadelphia Convention of 1787, it was voted that Constitution would become the new
foundation of the national government, not the Articles of Confederation. At the time, there were
thirteen individual states that had to vote to ratify or reject the Constitution. Within these thirteens
states, there were two groups that consisted of the Federalists and the Antifederalists. The
Federalists supported the Constitution; however, the Antifederalists opposed the Constitution. The
Federalists were led by an individual by the name of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton was thought of
as an intellectual with a mind that blew many. These Federalists were the first political party of the
United Statesof America. They wanted a strong national... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madison claimed that these factions could be stopped by electing representatives. These
representatives would then put forth national interest ahead of factional interest. In the other essays,
the Federalists foresaw the future of the country containing leaders from various competing
interests and groups, for the Antifederalists believed this was to be primarily the farmers. Overall,
the Federalists main points of discussion were a strong national government and commercial
growth of the nation, along with financial policies that revolved around central banks. The
Antifederalists were obviously opposed to the Constitution, and they were in full support of the
Articles of Confederation. The Antifederalists leaders, like Patrick Henry, believed the Constitution
challenged individual s liberty. The Antifederalists acted in factions. As the Federalists believed in a
strong central government, the Antifederalists thought this would get in the way of state
sovereignty. Furthermore, other factions within the Antifederalists believed a strong, central
government would reflect the government of Great Britain, in which they were trying to get away
from. Patrick Henry publicly spoke out against the Constitution claiming it would give the States
very limited power. The Constitution was to contain a president, army, and the power to tax. Henry
and others viewed this as basically Great Britain. They were afraid that the

Captain Beatty Character Analysis
Anyone who has read the book Fahrenheit 451 will immediately remember the infamous Captain
Beatty. For people who have not read the book, or do not remember Captain Beatty, he is the fire
chief who has a very controversial role in the book. He starts out looking like the antagonist of the
story but then towards the end of the book one could wonder if he was the alter egoof Montag, for
example, he shows the other way the story of Montag could have gone instead of him ending up
with Granger s group helping re educate the world one book at a time.
In the beginning, Beatty seems like the typical fireman in that time, against books, seems to have
never read any books, burns houses, and blindly following what the government tells him to, ...

The exact quote Beatty says There is no terror, Cassius, in your threats, for I am arm d so strong
in honesty that they pass me as an idle wind, which I respect not! (119) This shows that even
Beatty was reading books for quite some time. This is where the similarity between Montag and
Beatty ends, and where their stories take different routes. At this point, Montag stood up for what
he believed in and risked his life. This could have gone another way, Beatty s way, Montag could
have sucked it up and stayed a fireman and lived a lie like Beatty had.
Shortly after that quote, Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die, on page 122, and he was
wondering why. In class, we think that Beatty wanted to die because he did not want to have to
carry the burden of reading when it is against the law or without being able to share it with
everyone and he thought that the only way for him to get rid of that burden was to die. Montag
could have thought that and committed suicide like Beatty did but since we established Beatty was
Montag s alter ego he did not do that and he went to find Granger s group instead.
In conclusion, Beatty can be depicted as both an antagonist and as Montag s alter ego/ other half
because he was living a very similar life to Montag such as being a fire chief, reading books, being
bombarded with questions etc, until he took a different road at the end, which seemed like a safer
road because he still had his job and a good

involved. Also, it includes two beliefs the belief in measured forces throughout nature, in natural

Willy Loman Flashback
In Death of a Salesman, the past and present flow into one another seamlessly and simultaneously
because of Arthur Miller. Willy Loman s metal state is clearly evident to the audience. He has
multiple dreams (flashbacks) and sometime cannot distinguish the past and the present. Miller s

Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Pregnancy when a young female conceives a child and is under the
age of 20 by the end of the pregnancy period. How do these young girls cope with pregnancy at
such a young age? Pregnant teens may be worried about how to tell their family and what
everybody else will think about the situation. They In my paper I am going to talk about the risk
factors, causes, choices of what to do with the child, health risks for an infant of a teenage mother,
and the effects it puts on the teenager with her education, careers, opportunities, and relationships.
At the end of my paper I hope to have gave more detail about teenage pregnancy. For parents of
teenage girls, concerns about pregnancy are common. There is good reason for concern as at
current rates about one third of teen girls will become pregnant (Rudlin para 1). There are many
risk factors that can be associated with the pregnancy. These can have anything to do with family,
peers, community/culture, or their own individual self. It helps to know the risk factors that can
increase the likelihood of a teen becoming pregnant. Some factors that have to do with family can
be lack of parental supervision or lack of positive family interaction. Peer factors are dealing with

should not teach our youths this martial art. However, Jiu jitsu, much like many other martial arts,
is not a martial art that the purpose and intention of learningis violence or inflicting harm upon

Respect, commitment, dedication, and communication are social skills that are the major social
skills that people that train jiu jitsu learn, and they will cross over into skills that youths can learn
from jiu jitsu as well.
Respect for others and self respect is something that is implicitly learned through jiu jitsu. Coaches
teach respect to their students implicitly, meaning it is not something that is directly taught and
stated in the sense of you must have respect . Rather, it is something that is part of the jiu jitsu
culture. People that train jiu jitsu learn to respect their own bodies, as well as those of others. When
training, respect is learned by paying attention to the coaches, which for youths also translates into
learning patience to respect when the coach is instructing.
Commitment and dedication are also social skills that are learned through jiu jitsu. Children benefit
by learning commitment and dedication in jiu jitsu through being encouraged to not give up. While
jiu jitsu is a sport that takes time to learn, the length of time to master jiu jitsu is much longer (10

Russia s imperialistic actions over the Southern Tier nations have not just been a nostalgic
attempt to salvage its old empire. The Caspian Sea, the world s largest landlocked body of water
bordered by Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran, may sit on as much as 200
billion barrels or oil which would be 16% of the Earth s potential oil reserves. (Sciolino, 1998,
pg. 16) A 1998 New York Times article estimated that at that time this amount of oil would add
up to $3 trillion. (Sciolino, 1998, pg. 16) It is obvious that Russia would like to exploit a
considerable share of this wealth. The exploitation of the Caspian Sea depends on pipeline
transport of oil and Russia would like to see these pipelines run through their land on their way to
international markets to harness some of the profit. (Akiner, 2000, pg. 146) This profit, as well as
economic control over the Southern Tier region, is another important motive in Russia s resurgent
scheme.
Russia has used several mechanisms in its campaign to restore the soviet economic space.
Primarily Russia has attempted to assert control over the Caspian Sea in order to gain a large
share of its resources. When in 1994 Azerbaijan concluded what is called the contract of the century

Figley s Model Of The Compassion Fatigue Process
Lipchick (2002), describes the therapist client relationship as a structure coupling between to
unique human beings in complementary roles. In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that
empathy and compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a
therapeutic relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion
and empathycould become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as
Compassion Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition
was proposed by Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses
experience because of exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept
established in relation to the burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients
exposes them to pain and sufferingdaily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture. Supported by
Pack and Roberts (2012), CF occurs when individuals are unable to continue bearing the trauma of
others, consequently leading to a significant reduction in wellbeing and work capacity. Whilst CF
has regularly been observed in a healthcare environment, no such research has been conducted in a
sport and exercise context.
Figley s (2002) model of the Compassion Fatigue Process enables a further understanding of the
factors contributing to CF and some key terms surrounding it. The model is based on assumptions

A Brief Look at the Philosophy of Descartes Essay
When Descartes created the Method of Doubt his main mission was to develop a method that
would bring him to the real truth. It was important that his initial beliefs were absolute. If any of
them were in doubt, then it put the entire structure of knowledge at risk. Thus, Descartes developed
a method to get rid of those beliefs of which he could not be completely being confident in them.
This process is called the Method of Doubt. The first action to do while using the Method of Doubt
is using the skeptical Method of Doubt. Then one must use the optimistic phase where one can
restore the arrangement of knowledge based upon the truths that remained after taking these steps
of his Method of Doubt. The main question with Descartes s method... Show more content on

It s such a long period of time we do not remember what was going on through the mind. Descartes
then mentions maybe we were not even thinking at all. His goal is to discovery a footing on
which all other knowledge can be collected. He agrees with Plato that knowledge needs to have
certainty. But, then again, disagrees with the fact that the real world is not knowable. Descartes
questions to stop thinking are to no longer exist? Descartes would state that even though we may
not recall what we were dreaming, we were definitely having something going on throughout our
thoughts. Throughout our life there are many things we cannot look back on because we do not
remember what we were thinking at that time. It is possible that being woken in the middle of
the night by a loud noise and be right in the middle of a crazy thought and still we might not
remember a thing. Even though we cannot remember any thought before we wake, we know that
there was because we heard the noise and woke up. If we look back on our past there are times we
do not remember. For example, we do not remember being born or events that occurred while we
were infants but that does not mean that we were not thinking at that time. One can assume that
thinking means that there is a physical being but Descartes was still not so certain

A writing session for me can be around thirty minutes or an hour and a half. If it becomes longer
than thirty minutes I like to take short breaks. Once I am done I put my paper through a
program like PaperGrader to analyze any grammar mistakes. I guess this would be my revising part
of the writing process. It also helps with things like word usage, checking plagiarism, and parts of a
paper like passive voice. This part, like pre writing, is not very long. I revise quickly because I feel
that all the hard work of writing is already done, I just want to make sure my paper is free of as

those mistakes and reread my paper to see if I like the flow, the word choice, and just to make sure

Although being completely based on the story, the movie has many differences as well as
similarities and can be easily compared and contrasted. First, are the differences between the
movie and the textbook. A significant difference is the Chicago conference and Charlie s speech
at the conference. Although mentioned in the text book, the conference is never explained in full
detail. It was a wise decision of the director to implement this into the movie since it gives you
Charlie s perspective and opinion of the whole experiment. During the speech he explains how Dr.
Strauss basically manipulated him, and, Charlie also counter states Dr. Strauss s opinion on the old
Charlie, where Strauss calls him a mistake of nature and other harsh things. Seeing the firm tone
and serious expressions in Charlie as he presents his speech really reveals some of Charlie s strong
opinions. Another significant difference is

Progressive Party Vs. Populist Political Party
Populists v Progressives
A political party is an organization whose aim is to gain control of the government apparatus,
usually through the election of its candidates to public office. Political parties take many forms, but
their main functions are similar: to supply personnel for government positions; to organize these
personnel around the formation and implementation of public policy; and to serve in a mediating
role between individuals and their government. Political parties are as old as organized political
systems. Two parties in particular, the Populist Party and the Progressive Party are alike in many
ways, from their platforms to their general issues. In general, however, the structure and behavior of

The party adopted a platform calling for the free coinage of silver along with the abolition of
national banks. Another aspect of the Populist Party, is a graduated income tax, government
ownership of all forms of transportation and communication, and the election of Senators by direct
vote of the people. Civil service reform, a working day of eight hours, postal banks, pensions, and
the reform of immigration regulations are just some of the other views and beliefs of populists.
Progressives are activists in a political reform movement known as progressivism, which is a
broadly based reform movement that reached its height early in the 20th cent. In the decades
following the Civil War, rapid industrialization transformed the United States. A national rail
system was completed, agriculture was mechanized, the factory system spread, and cities grew
rapidly in size and number all because of this newfound movement. The progressive movement
arose as a response to the vast changes brought by industrialization. Progressives were often
frustrated, however, because state legislatures, controlled by railroads and large corporations,
obstructed the municipal struggle for their rule. Throughout all of the reform movements,
progressives began to play a major role in politics and the creation of a new political party known
as the

Nicotine Essay
Positive and Negative Aspects of the Chemical Nicotine
Nicotine, one of the most unusual psychoactive drugs known, and the primary pharmacological
agent of addiction in cigarettes, triggers powerful physical and psychological reactions in species
as diverse as cockroaches and humans.
Nicotine has been proven to boost concentration, improve memory and control body weight, as well
as alleviating the symptoms of Alzheimer s and Parkinson s Disease sufferers. However, research
has also established that nicotine adversely affects babies in utero and may explain the link
between smoking and problems such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Attention Deficit

Nicotine has a powerful addicting effect because it is absorbed rapidly into the pulmonary
circulation following inhalation from which it passes through the left side of the heart and into the
cerebral circulation. It rapidly crosses the blood brain barrier and binds to specific receptors in
various parts of the brain. Stimulation of receptors by nicotine results in the activation of a number
of neurohumoral pathways leading to release of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin,
vasopressin and various hormones. Nicotine causes the release of the substance b endorphin, an
endogenous peptide that also binds to opiate receptors. This indicates a link between addiction to
opiates, such as morphine and heroin, and addiction to nicotine.
Nicotine affects nearly all components of the endocrine and neuroendocrine systems, including
catecholamines, serotonin, corticosteroids and pituitary hormones.
Some of these endocrine effects are mediated by actions of nicotine on brain neurotransmitter
systems. In addition, nicotine causes skeletal muscle relaxation and has cardiovascular effects.
Nicotine is a powerful substance in controlling brain function. It interacts with specific receptors in
brain tissue, and initiates metabolic and electrical activity in the brain.

Examples Of Lessons In The Chrysalids
Lessons Being Taught in The Chrysalids
Love and faith are both components to survival. In the Chrysalids David loves Rosalind and his
sister Petra and protects them. John Wyndham, the author of the book places this society in a time
after war were mutations are becoming more common so Petra, Rosalind, and David need to run
away to survive or else they will get caught. Also these people in this society are very faithful
(religious) and follow the bible, and if something occurs that the bible does not say then they get
sent to the fringes. The Chrysalids, by John Wyndham teaches valuable lessons about love, survival,
and faith.
The Chrysalids teaches lessons about love. If someone loves another then they will protect them.

To begin with people follow the rules until they come across their own challenges. For one thing
Aunt Harriet having another mutation. As she continues to have mutations she gives up and
finally decides she will keep the baby. This shows that she was a good citizen but as she keeps
experiencing heartbreak she then decides to try and break the rules. Also sometimes being too
faithful is wrong. For example when Angus Morton came with the unusually large horses. I don
t believe it ... god never made horses of these size, the government can t have approved them,
(36). This proves that being too religious is bad because these horses were too big but they work
ten times better and faster but eat the same, so the horses being too big would have helped
really well. Another point is that faith makes people not think for themself. For instance David
knows the bible, has studied it for years but when he sees Sophie s extra toe doesn t understand
why it is so bad. This proves that David does not see the harm in an extra toe but the bible does
not say that it is aloud making everyone think it is bad. Therefore faith is a lesson as the main
idea of the book is being different, and that as people continue to be faithful it may be a dangerous

Effect Of Globalization On Neediness Essay
Many millions of people are excluded, left behind in squalor . . . (Annan 2000). In spite of the fact
that the correct effect of globalization on neediness is exceptionally hard to evaluate, look into
assessments demonstrate that destitution has expanded by 82 million, 14 million, and 8 million in
sub Saharan Africa, Europe and Central Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean separately.
Investigating this, globalizationitself can t be considered in charge of the vast majority of the

Non Genotoxic Carcinogens
Continuous exposure to an increasing number of certain natural and man made chemicals is a
major risk factor for cancer. Therefore, evaluating the carcinogenic risk of chemicals remains
important. Currently, substantial progress has been made in identification of genotoxic
carcinogens. In contrast, predicting a carcinogenic potential of non genotoxic compounds is a
challenge due to many different modes of action that may lead to tumorigenesis; however,
accumulating evidence suggests that some of the earliest events of tumorigenesis involve
perturbations of the cellular epigenome. In the present study, we investigated the effect of the non

lysine 9 (H3K9ac) and H3 lysine 56 (H3K56ac) in the livers. Exposure to usnic acid resulted in a
minor reduction of H3K4me3 and H3K9ac only. No histone modification changes were found in the
livers of rats treated with aristolochic acid. Also, none of the chemicals caused histone

accompanied by a reduced expression of chromatin modifying genes responsible for the
modifications, including histone methyltransferases Suv4 20h2 and Kmt2a, histone demethylase

Moreover, Loffreda mentions that the media is broadcasting an inaccurate appearance of

Loffreda assumes that most people who are protesting and join the vigils, a portion of them are

America s Founding Fathers Did NOT Create a Christian Nation
In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true either is true or becomes true. John Lilly
For years members of certain extremist organizations have been attempting to convince people that
America is, or at least should be, a Christian country and was founded by Christian men. It should
go without saying that this is, at best, revisionist history or, at worst, deliberate despicable
deception. However, it does not. The discussion is necessary and has become more necessary due
to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Immediately following those attacks, American citizens found themselves in a position quite unlike
any they had previously encountered. Faced with a tragedy of unparalleled magnitude, many

Christianity has, and will probably continue to have, the largest self admitted portion of the
American citizens. Constitutionally, this is all well and good, as American citizens are entitled to
the free exercise of religion. Honestly, good portions of Christian Americans value the fact that
America has no established religion. however, Christianity also has a large number of extremist
nutcases promoting their religion as the one, true American religion. One other thing should be
noted regarding the findings of this survey. It would appear that, over the nineties American s did
become more comfortable stating their beliefs if they fell far from the majority. It would be naГЇve
to believe that in 1990 there were no American Atheists, Wiccans, or Spritualists. It is much more
logical that, in 1990, these groups of people did not feel comfortable professing their beliefs. If the
Christian extremists have their way, these people will again be uncomfortable talking about their
beliefs.
So, let us return to the term Christian Country. This term has two general definitions. First, and
most acceptably, it can simply demonstrates the fact that the majority of American citizens are
Christian. There is no problem with this use of the term, as it is simply a statement of verifiable
fact. This discussion revolves around the second definition: that America is a country founded on
the beliefs of Christianity and

Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
A Nosocomial Infection is a very distinct infection that occurs in hospital environments. The work
nosocomial literally means of or relating to a hospital. Also known as hospital acquired infections
(or HAI) these occur in unsanitary or unclean hospital environments and can be contracted by
hospital staff, hospital patients and visitors. Infections can be generally described as bacterial or
fungal. Nosocomial infections will often cause urinary tract infections, and pneumonia among other
things depending on the patient s reaction to the infection.

epidemiologic research, occur on an international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gram negative bacteria are completely resistant to antibiotics. These bacteria is a primary threat to
hospital patients with weak immune systems and is less likely to affect staff members.
As for the spread of nosocomial infections, methods include airborne travel, direct person to person
contact, droplets, vermin transmission (or vector borne transmission) and tangible vehicles found
in hospitals. Airborne travel occurs when simple droplet nuclei of microorganisms remain in the air
for extended periods of time. An example would be a sneeze or dust particles. Once these particles
are inhaled by a host the infection can be contracted. Person to person contact is the most frequent
transmission and includes a hand shake, touching, rubbing, patting, etc. Droplets are transmitted
through certain operations involving the mouth, nose or throat, including bronchoscopy as well as
coughing, sneezing and talking. Vermin is also a method of travel for these microorganisms as rats,
roaches, mosquitoes and flies. Lastly, common hospital utilities and equipment, when they are not
properly cleaned, can become a vehicle for contact. These may include medications, hospital
devices, tools and equipment, even water and food.

The Sexualization Of Women In Game Of Thrones
Politics of Sex, Power, and Magic How does the sexualization of Melisandre effect how the
characters and audience view her character and intentions? In the TV show Game of Thrones,
adapted from the novels from George R.R. Martin, we are introduced to an ambitious witch
named Melisandre, also known as the red witch. In the show, seven noble houses are fighting to
gain control of the entire kingdom after the King dies. Melisandre is trying to have Stannis
Baratheon be king, and she is using her god The Lord of Light to guide her in bringing him to the
iron throne after having a vision of him being the chosen king. In the scene, Melisandre is being
rowed to a cave so she can give birth after seducing a noble lord. Throughout TV series Melisandre

In the chapter Male Gaze , she talks about how Game of Thrones and other media outlets
objectify women to gain more male audiences. Frankie claims that, the Game of Thrones sex
scenes are biased towards men and do not appear designed to appeal to women. (Frankle 16) In
The Night Lands episode that takes place two episodes before The Gardens Bones aired, it
showed Melisandre seducing Lord Stannis with the promise that she will birth him a son.
Before Melisandre and Stannis have sex, she tells him that she can provide him a son while his
current wife was sickly and brought nothing but stillborns and death. This shows that the women
are just objects used for having children and without it they were worthless (unless they were
prostitutes). Melisandre undid her robe and was completely naked under it and he roughly rips it
off and lightly tosses her on the desk filled with battle plans and strategies. This symbolized him
dominating her and being in control of the situation, he is worried about the war with his brother
but he knows that he can still dominate and control (so he thinks) Melisandre. This appeals to the
male audiences, because they like to be in control and dominate because it shows how masculine
and macho they are. In the show, there is a disproportionate amount of female nudity vs male
nudity, which conveys the message that women are nothing more than sex objects and eye candy
that contributes nothing unless they are having sex or doing lewd things to get men s attention.
This especially shows when Melisandre is completely naked and spread out in front of the camera
while Stannis is completely covered up only having the fly of his pants undone so the audience
can t see his private areas. This is just one of several times that Frankle has pointed out

Bourdieu s Understanding the Power for Social Change
Bourdieu describes habitus as a power of adaptation. It constantly performs an adaptation to the
outside world which only exceptionally takes the form of radical conversion (Bourdieu, 1993).
Bourdieu s concept of habitus enables us to understand women as a complex amalgam of their
past and present (Bourdieu, 1990a), but an amalgam that is always in the process of completion.
There is no finality or finished identity. At the same time, habitus also includes a set of complex,
diverse predispositions. It invokes understandings of identity premised on familial legacy and
early childhood socialisation. As such, it is primarily a dynamic concept, a rich interlacing of past
and present, interiorised and permeating both body and psyche. Much of the dynamism of habitus
is the product of the interconnection of habitus with Bourdieu s related concept of field. Field is a
set of objective, historical relations between positions anchored in certain forms of power (or
capital) (Wacquant in Bourdieu Wacquant, 1992, p. 16). A dialectic relationship exists be tween the
two concepts. In one direction there is a flow of influence from field to habitus that produces a
relationship of conditioning in which the field structures the habitus. When Bourdieu refers to , is
usually referring to the different types of capitals that one person can acquire. These capitals are
economic, linguistic, and cultural (Bourdieu, 1991). Depending of the quantity of each of these
capitals, a person is

The reasons for these variations reside in determinants that relate to socio cultural environments,
physical environments, and the economic policies of the regions (Dutton and McLaren 1460).
Healthcare agencies and provincial health authorities are working together to develop awareness
programs about the dangers of increased BMI in an effort to be proactive in the face of the
rising tide of increased BMIs. Health Consequences Social determinants of health impact the
health status of individuals (Mikkonen and Raphael 7). These determinants are related to the
conditions that impact the way in in which individuals live. For example, employment, income
that individuals earn, gender, housing situation, education, job security, employment, health
services, Aboriginal status, race and disability (Mikkonen and Raphael i). These determinants
are also regionally specific and account for the variation in regional differences in obesity rates.
As well, obesity is not a blanket term; there are three classes of obesity in Canada. Individuals
with a BMI between 25 30 are considered overweight. BMIs 30 are divided in the three classes:
30 34.9 is designated as Class I; BMIs between 35 39.9 is designated as class II; and class III are
individuals with BMIs measuring 40 (Brierley 156). These classes determine treatment options
from therapeutic lifestyle changes to treatment methodologies

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the
power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social,
economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their
various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake
shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces
were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature
and desire to live in a world of light and charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC,
when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean.
Mycenaean artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely

  • 2. Estimation Of Robust Standard By Using Compression Sensing... Estimation of Robust Standard by using Compression Sensing Data in Wireless Sensor Network Brindha.M1and Prabaharan.P2 1Department of CSE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, brindhadass90@gmailcom 2Department of CSE, Vivekanandha College of Engineering for Women, kpra8897 @gmail.com Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the collection of physical measurements in a geographical area. It tracks the spatial average of the sensor measurements in a region. Since it is highly vulnerable to sensor faults and measurement noise the average operation is not robust. In this paper the proposed computational efficient method is used to compute a weight average of sensor measurement. It takes consideration of sensor faults and sensor noise. WSN uses random projections of sensor to compress data and send the compressed data to the data fusion center. The computation efficient method uses the data fusion center for direct work with the compressed data stream. The fusion center performed decompression at the time of computed weighted average. Thus, it reduces the computational requirements. Hence the proposed method gives better accuracy and more efficient for the WSN. Keywords Wireless sensor network, compressive sensing, distributed compressive sensing, fault tolerance, data fusion, robust averaging. INTRODUCTION The compressive sensing consists of sampling and signal reconstruction method. The compressive sensing uses unknown signal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Federalist 10 Paper FEDERALIST #10 This paper is considered an important document in American history for it lays out how the writers of the constitution defined the form of government that would protect minority rights from organized and united factions that intended to pass legislation injurious to the liberty of the minority or detrimental to the good of the country. The Federalist Papers, were a series of eighty five essays written by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison between October 1787 and May 1788. The essays were published anonymously, under the pen name Publius, primarily in two New York state newspapers of the time: The New York Packet and The Independent Journal. This essay, the first of James Madison s contributions to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With pure democracy he means a system in which every citizen vote directly for laws. And with republic he intends a society in which citizens vote for an elite of representatives who then vote for laws. He indicates that the voice of the people pronounced by a body of representatives is more conformable to the interest of the community. Because again, common people s decisions are affected by their self interest. Then he makes an argument in favor of a large republic against a small republic for the choice of fit characters to represent the public s voice. In a large republic where the number of voters and candidates is greater, the probability to elect competent representatives is broader. The voters have a wider option. In a small republic it would also be easier for the candidates to fool the voters, while in a large one, harder. The last argument Madison makes in favor of a large republic is, in a small republic there will be a lower variety of interests and parties, so more frequently a majority will be found. The number of participants of that majority, will be lower, and considering they live in a more limited territory, it would be easier for them to agree and work together for the accomplishment of their ideas. While in a large republic the variety of interests will be greater so to make it harder to find a majority. Even if there is a majority it would be harder for them to ... • 4. Don Delillo s White Noise And The Dismantlement Of Filters White Noise and the Dismantlement of Filters Don Delillo s White Noise is a hyper real disaster novel based around the central concept of revealing the ubiquitous and invisible distractions which permeate society. These distractions are normally filtered out before they are even considered by a person. Everyday a person who is exposed to the public encounters a nigh infinite amount of advertisements, ideas, noises, and stimuli that are not consciously considered. These stimuli are not given thought, however, they still have an effect. Delillo takes these unconsidered stimuli, which are normally resigned to the background, and uses them as the centerpiece for his work. By doing this he forces the reader to consider these stimuli on a conscious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a seemingly arbitrary description of a mundane daily occurrence placed between scenes of action. The narrator, Jack, goes from contemplating the intricacies of death, to describing the packaging of foods within the supermarket, using only an out of place phrase as a transition. Delillo does this to draw attention to the daily occurrences that are ignored. Everything he describes, whether it s the, white package of bacon without a plastic window for viewing a representative slice (18), or the blue jeans tumbling in the dryer, is part of the massive amount of information that must constantly be processed by denizens of a first world society. The jarring nature with which he places these phrases forces the reader to view them not as background information, but instead as something more. They are made to stick out. Delillo hopes to use this technique to make the reader consider how much information is relevant. It is not outlandish to have blue jeans in a dryer, nor is it strange to know they are in the dryer, however, to consciously consider this information and what it means is very strange. While the blue jeans are an innocuous example of the information that is constantly floating around in the background of life, DeLillo goes on to illustrate more lethal ... I am now 12 years of age and my hair has grown to be very long and beautiful. The sorceress uses my hair as a rope for her to get up into a tower that she has locked me in. I can see your hut from the tippy top of my tower and you seem to be doing well. I always wonder to myself, though, how were my parents so easily able to give me up? I understand that the sorceress has powers that are evil beyond belief, but you couldn t have tried to fight a bit more to keep your child? • 6. Not A Hoof Left Behind Mark Twain NOT A HOOF LEFT BEHIND Mark Twain says that early in his life he moved to a mining town in Colorado. The town was wide open with brothels and bars on every corner. Twain says, I immediately recognized it was no place for a Christian so I decided not to be one. Many people have imitated Twain s response. When they find it hard to be a Christian, they either quit trying to be one or they compromise their convictions. Jesus directs some of His harshest words toward the sin of compromise embodied in the doctrines of Balaam and the Nicolaitans in the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12 17). Both doctrines were efforts to adjust Christianity to the level of the world rather than lift the world to the level of Christianity. They taught the people to go along in order to get along, in short, to compromise. However, Jesus says he hates the doctrine (2:15), and the Scriptures warn us repeatedly against it (2 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 12:2; 2 Tim. 2:19). Pharaoh s dealing with Moses is a classic example of how the devil uses compromise to thwart God s children from reaching the Promised Land (Ex. 8:25 10:26). At God s orders, Moses and Aaron demand that Pharaoh release every family and tribe of Israel out of Egypt. Pharaoh does not wish to grant any part of their request, but sees he is going to have to yield to some extent. He feels, however, that he can save his dignity and protect his own interests by yielding less than what is demanded. On four occasions, he offers to compromise. First, God ... It has been argued that management needs the resources to create core competencies to develop a strategy that has sustainable competitive advantage (Marti, 2004, p1), so the definition of a strategy as an integrated and coordinated set of commitments and actions designed to exploit core competencies and gain a competitive advantage fits this argument. The strategic management process follows the lines of strategy, while also earning above average returns (Hanson et al, 2008, p4, 25). It could then measure the results against the same period for the year before, and assess where the company is doing profiting, as well where improvement is needed. In addition, financial ratio analysis can be used to evaluate where a company is positioned against its competitors. Benchmarking is the identification of best practices among competitors and non competitors that make them superior performers (Stone, 2006, p650); the practice of comparing a company to a standard set by other companies, with a view toward improvement (Horngren et al, 2008, p90). A large number of firms within Australia and the rest of the world are now applying benchmarking to their organisation, particularly when it comes to managing the human resources (HR). Benchmarking serves a number of purposes: it enables managers to audit how effectively HR meets the needs of the organisation; it enables an organisation to learn from those who excel in an HR practice; it identifies HR areas where performance can be improved; and it can be used to create a need for change (Stone, 2006, p623). Benchmarking can be linked with financial statement and ratio analysis, which was discussed previously, in that by comparing it with other company s financial statements, it can benchmark against the industry average as well as against key ... The Fall Of Singapore The Fall of Singapore to the Japanese happened on the 15th February 1942 and is thought to be one of the greatest defeats in the entire history of the British Army and most likely Britain s worst defeat in all of World War 2. Singapore was considered to be a major part of the British Empire and it was thought to be as strong as a fortress. Improvement s to Singapore as a British military base had only been completed in 1938, a mere 4 years before the fall of Singapore. On the 8th February 1942, the Japanese attacked across the Johor Strait. Many of the Allied fighters were simply too far away to have any influence on the battle as they were spread out along the 112 kilometer coastline. They were also kept away from the battle as it was feared that the Japanese would make another attack further along the coastline. The Japanese took 100,000 men prisoner in Singapore, of which 9,000 died. All advertisements are aimed at specific target audiences and as such require different ideas, linguistic devices and presentational features to attract them. This plays with words as it says close up on lips and the image is of close up lips with lipstick on. In the L Oreal Paris advertisement the slogan is 10 lively colours to make your look pulse as often as you want! This is different from their usual slogan because you re worth it as they are just talking about the colour pulse hair die, so they wanted a slogan to link in with the product. The slogan is effective because the words lively and pulse make it sound alive and the words you and your make it sound like they are talking to you in person. Also, at the end of the slogan is an exclamation mark which makes it seem exciting. The two advertisements both have copy but in the Clinique one it is much longer because it is aimed at an older target audience who are more interested in the copy content. The Advertisement aimed at the younger target audience has less copy, containing just the most important facts, because the visual impact is more to this age group. The L Oreal Paris advertisement states that it washes out in 8 to 10 shampoos . This is an example of weasel words because they are not giving an exact figure but a range. There are instances where people make robots for a living, or program a type of chip or circuit board that are installed in robots. However, the main reason why we know about robots is because of movies. A lot of movies depict robots as being mechanical creatures that somehow upsets the balance of earth and cause mass destruction, or is depicted as serving their masters. We often think about industrial robots. This is mainly because of industrial plants. We think of them as taking over our jobs. The biotic factors of an ecosystem are the living organisms, while the abiotic factors of an ecosystem are the temperature, climate, sun, and the weather. The ecosystem being researched is the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located right off of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef has around 400 types of coral and 1,500 species of fish. It has more than 3000 different reef systems. The Great Barrier Reef is one of the natural wonders of the world, and for good reason. On the Great Barrier Reef lives the Whitetip Reef Shark, Triaenodon Obesus, prefers to eat crabs and octopi, as well as other animals of the sea. The scientific name for the octopus is Octopoda. The relationship between the Whitetip and the octopus is an example of predation. Predation is the preying of one animal on other animals. The species of octopi are usually mostly carnivores, although some are omnivores. The Whitetip Reef Shark species is also a carnivorous species. Another organism that lives on the reef is the sea cucumber. The sea cucumber, or Holothuroidea, is a decomposer that lives on the reef floor and eats animal wastes as it crawls along. But all things considered, the difference between a game and a simulation is arbitrary and based strictly on one s definition of each term. If the difference relies on how realistic the game is in its mechanics and play style, then Call of Duty might as well be called a combat simulator. Does a VR set such as the Oculus Rift along with the still in development rifle shaped controller and multi direction gaming treadmill automatically turn a game into a simulation? What is clear is the driving factor behind why games are made beyond artistic expression, though not mutually exclusive of it, is the desire for profit. The gaming industry, much like the motion picture industry, is a business, driven by profit. • 19. Theme Of Colors In The Great Gatsby Colors are more than just sensations of the eye, they possess literary purpose. The world without colors would be dull and uninteresting. They are used for more than just a visual explanation, colors are extremely symbolic and can mean a lot of different things. For example, there are five colors on the Olympic rings, blue, black, red, yellow, and green. Every flag in the world has at least one of those colors on it, establishing unity throughout the countries, while they come together to compete in the games. In life and literature, anything can be described, symbolized and characterized using color. In The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald, colors are used to create a deep description of objects and scenes in the book, portray different themes, and characterize the unique figures throughout the novel. To begin, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses the color green to symbolize Gatsby s hopes, dreams, and jealousy. The first time green is used is at the end of chapter one while describing Nick s sight of Gatsby reaching forward toward the green light at the end of Daisy s dock. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock (Fitzgerald, 24). At the end of my paper I hope to have gave more detail about teenage pregnancy. For parents of teenage girls, concerns about pregnancy are common. There is good reason for concern as at current rates about one third of teen girls will become pregnant (Rudlin para 1). There are many risk factors that can be associated with the pregnancy. These can have anything to do with family, peers, community/culture, or their own individual self. It helps to know the risk factors that can increase the likelihood of a teen becoming pregnant. Coaches teach respect to their students implicitly, meaning it is not something that is directly taught and stated in the sense of you must have respect . Rather, it is something that is part of the jiu jitsu culture. People that train jiu jitsu learn to respect their own bodies, as well as those of others. When training, respect is learned by paying attention to the coaches, which for youths also translates into learning patience to respect when the coach is instructing. Commitment and dedication are also social skills that are learned through jiu jitsu. Children benefit by learning commitment and dedication in jiu jitsu through being encouraged to not give up. In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that empathy and compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a therapeutic relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion and empathycould become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as Compassion Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition was proposed by Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses experience because of exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept established in relation to the burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients exposes them to pain and sufferingdaily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture. Supported by Pack and Roberts (2012), CF occurs when individuals are unable to continue bearing the trauma of others, consequently leading to a significant reduction in wellbeing and work capacity. Whilst CF has regularly been observed in a healthcare environment, no such research has been conducted in a sport and exercise context. • 39. A Brief Look at the Philosophy of Descartes Essay When Descartes created the Method of Doubt his main mission was to develop a method that would bring him to the real truth. It was important that his initial beliefs were absolute. If any of them were in doubt, then it put the entire structure of knowledge at risk. Thus, Descartes developed a method to get rid of those beliefs of which he could not be completely being confident in them. This process is called the Method of Doubt. The first action to do while using the Method of Doubt is using the skeptical Method of Doubt. Then one must use the optimistic phase where one can restore the arrangement of knowledge based upon the truths that remained after taking these steps of his Method of Doubt. Descartes would state that even though we may not recall what we were dreaming, we were definitely having something going on throughout our thoughts. Throughout our life there are many things we cannot look back on because we do not remember what we were thinking at that time. It is possible that being woken in the middle of the night by a loud noise and be right in the middle of a crazy thought and still we might not remember a thing. • 52. Bourdieu s Understanding the Power for Social Change Bourdieu describes habitus as a power of adaptation. It constantly performs an adaptation to the outside world which only exceptionally takes the form of radical conversion (Bourdieu, 1993). Bourdieu s concept of habitus enables us to understand women as a complex amalgam of their past and present (Bourdieu, 1990a), but an amalgam that is always in the process of completion. There is no finality or finished identity. At the same time, habitus also includes a set of complex, diverse predispositions. It invokes understandings of identity premised on familial legacy and early childhood socialisation. As such, it is primarily a dynamic concept, a rich interlacing of past and present, interiorised and permeating both body and psyche. Much of the dynamism of habitus is the product of the interconnection of habitus with Bourdieu s related concept of field. Field is a set of objective, historical relations between positions anchored in certain forms of power (or capital) (Wacquant in Bourdieu Wacquant, 1992, p. 16). A dialectic relationship exists be tween the two concepts. In one direction there is a flow of influence from field to habitus that produces a relationship of conditioning in which the field structures the habitus. Healthcare agencies and provincial health authorities are working together to develop awareness programs about the dangers of increased BMI in an effort to be proactive in the face of the rising tide of increased BMIs. For example, employment, income that individuals earn, gender, housing situation, education, job security, employment, health services, Aboriginal status, race and disability (Mikkonen and Raphael i). • 54. Minoan Crete Research Paper The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social, economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature and desire to live in a world of light and charm. The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC, when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean. Mycenaean artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely Mycenaean swords are know from as far away as Georgia in the Caucasus and Mycenaean bronze double axes and other objects dating from 13th century BCE have been found in Ireland and in Wessex and Cornwall in England. ... Mycenae ans were buried in a sitting position, and some of the nobility underwent mummification, whereas Homer s Achilles and Patroclus were not buried but cremated, in Iron Age fashion, and honoured with gold urns instead of gold ...
