age of 25 I was divorced and frustrated with menial, low paying jobs: clerk, receptionist, and

On December 2nd, 2017, I attended a concert performed by the Diablo Valley College

Center, was called A Classical British Invasion and it featured pieces that were either written by

previous concertreports, I decided to attend a college orchestra, hoping to see the differences
between a professional orchestra and a more casual one. The first piece performed in this concert
was Norfolk Scenic Overture composed by Kenneth Ian Hytch. The piece started loudly and

Attitudes are conceptualised as stable entities or temporary constructions (Bohner and Dickel,
2011). The following article moves on to describe in greater detail the potential influences of
attitude and attitude change with the aim of highlighting possible reasoning behind these.
Furthermore, to define a particular attitudeas a stable entity is to suggest that one s attitude is
derived from a preconceived idea or memory. To the contrary, a temporary construction is to
construct an attitude in an instant following a particular event or stimulus. Whilst Visser and
Mirabile (2004) claim that attitudes are a stable entity, and in contrast Shwarz (2007) believes
attitudes are a temporary construction, Eagly and Chaiken (2007) take a moderate stance by
defining attitudes as a psychological tendency, expressed by evaluating a particular entity with
some degree of favour or disfavour. To further investigate attitude change, the topic used as
stimulus for this study is cannabis use. Cannabis use is progressively developing a controversial
reputation in todays society. Research has shown that on one hand, some of the strongest evidence
for marijuana s therapeutic potential derives from treating long term illnesses such as multiple
sclerosis by providing highly reported pain relief (Kmietowicz, 2005). On the other, frequent
cannabis use predicts later depression and anxiety (Moore et al., 2007), and poses an increased risk
of psychosis and schizophrenia (Kmietowicz, 2005).

actually will. They want the consumers to believe that it will satisfy their needs. In a Trident Gum
commercial, the advertisers used a common weasel word to prove the need of their product. The
commercial begins with the speaker stating that four out of five dentists would recommend Trident
to their patients who chew gum. Next, it goes into a visual of five dentists voting if they would
recommend the gum. While the dentists are voting, a squirrel jumps through the window and
sneaks its way to the fifth dentist. While the fifth dentist starts to say its vote, the squirrel goes
through his pants and bite his genitals making the dentists scream NO! . At the end of the

Magazines, newspapers, and health blog posts have been talking about the unhealthy consequences
of Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) for many years. The more people grew conscious of what they
were consuming, the more they researched about their food. The usage of Bovine Growth Hormone
among the dairy industries has caught the attention of many consumers. Countless studies that were
done regarding rBGH treated milk only validated the negative effects of rBGH. Cows should not be
treated with rBGH due to the detrimental effects the hormone has on cows health, the potential
harmful effects it can have on consumers due to rampant antibiotic use, and the breaching of
autonomy and rights abuses of the cows treated.
Bovine Somatotropin (BST) is commonly known as Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH).
Somatotropin is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of animals. BST aids in
increasing the growth in young cattles and lactation in milk cows. rBGH is an artificial
somatotropin hormone that is created through recombinant biotechnology. When rBGH is
administered to milk cows, the milk production of the cows increase by 10 to 15 percent (USDA,

one of the main problems with increasing exceptions to the FLSA is that if an employee is being
paid the minimum salary for an exempted worker, they are within a whisper of the poverty line.
The original language pertaining to anyone working with computers was first introduced in 1990.
An be labeled exempt one would have to be paid an hourly rate and paid no less than six and a half

Traditionally, dirges are composed in the form of a song or hymn of mourning as a memorial to a
dead person. The very definition suggests that the particular qualities of the dead individual deserve
recognition. The dirge is not just written for anyone, but for those deserving of glorification, who
survive in the memories of the living as testaments to the greater capacities of humankind. It is
against this traditional definition that Kenneth Fearing s poem, Dirge , is working, not only as an
overt commentary on the social, cultural, and political factors surrounding the destabilization of
1930 s America but also as an abstraction of the prevalent views of reality: the dehumanization of

In the first stanza, the third person semi omniscient speaking voice establishes the conclusive
paradigm of the poem: death by suicide. Though the death of the individual is a highly conventional
type of tragic presentation, the way in which this presentation is established in the Dirge is. The
absent function of any emotional signifiers is replaced by a parody of the numerical fluctuations of
the stock market. The unnamed man s death is never mentioned openly, and the circumstances
resulting in his death are highly trivialized. Consistent with the market allusion, the reader is left to
speculate exactly what sort of concrete events are occurring within in the first stanza. From the very
start, the poem challenges any threnodic conventions by disassociating the subject of death from
the human subject.
Though in stark contrast to the first stanza in form, the two part second stanza continues with this
disconnect of death from the subject in the poem. Each part begins with an emotionally charged
direct address to a male subject using expletive language. The speaking voice is conceivably
appealing to both the functional presence of the dead man and every other man who fits into the
category of the executive type. This stanza uses a type of call and response form as a rhetorical

The Lost Cause was believed to be a myth to provide justification for white political power (p. 341).
Many southern organizations defended Southern Historical Society, the United Confederate
Veterans Association, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (p. 341). A literacy and
intellectual movement, which was the Lost Cause, that sought to reconcile the traditional Southern

The decline of interest in the Lost Cause was more of a Northern than a Southern celebration,
which was the Civil War Centennial. Many white Southerners revived the use of Confederate
symbols during the civil rights revolts of 1950s and 1960s, mainly the Confederate flag and
Dixie (Gaines Foster 2002). With this being said, the Northern celebration lost intertest extremely
quick. They revived the use of Confederate symbols by trying to make the cause seem more
Christian like and noble and had their leaders exemplify chivalry. The confederate flags
