Why Is Blanche Lost
When Blanche says that she could become lost, this suggests that she is trying to convince Mitch
that she is both a good girl and someone who loves him. When Blanche was sixteen, she met and

decision to not fall in love with Mitch. The lost feeling that Blanche is afraid to achieve stems from
her previous relationship with Allan. When she was sixteen Blanche fell in love with a the boy

Essay about Punic Wars
Discuss the Roman Punic Wars, in terms of their circumstances and overall effect on Rome s
economic and social development Also discuss the ensuing Gracchan turbulence from the same
perspective.
The circumstance for the Roman Punic Wars towards Rome was a simple human
reaction. If an outsider such as Italy, Carthage, or Greece make threats towards Rome,
Rome will simply fight. The Punic Warslasted in 3 stages, all resulting to the obsessive
pride and higher standings of Rome. Rome s initial desire of expansion was only for
farming land. Romans believed like anyone else that victory brought them honor as well

Slowly Rome was developing into an empire, yet still in fear of being

Comparing The Different Classes Of Glutamate Receptors Essay
Compare and contrast the different classes of glutamate receptors.
Glutamate as a neurotransmitter
In the brain, neurons communicate between each other and with target cells via a great numbers of
chemicals they release, so called neurotransmitters. A signal in the brain is sent from a presynaptic
neuron to a postsynaptic cell through synaptic transmission, allowing the brain to process
information in a rapid way. (SГјdhof, Starke and Boehm, 2008)
One of the most important transmitters within the vertebrate nervous system for normal brain
function is known to be glutamic acid also known as glutamate. In the mammalian central nervous
system (brain and spinal cord) is acknowledged that almost all excitatory neurons are glutamatergic
and approximately more than 40% of the synapses in the brain release the amino acid glutamate.
(Purves et al., 2001)
The interaction of this major neurotransmitter with different cells in the brain is dependent on
whether the cells express receptors for glutamate on their surfaces, to which they can bind and
activate. (Hu, Ondrejcak and Rowan, 2012)
Glutamate interaction with glutamate receptors plays a role in the efficacy of synaptic plasticity,
which is fundamental for many neurological functions such as memory, learning, behaviour and in
addition during development in the formation of neural connections within the central nervous
system (CNS), thus allowing neurons to communicate with each other (Sundaram, Gowtham and
Nayak, 2012)

What Is Folkloric Like Epic Hero
The role and cultural description of what would be call a folkloric like epic hero didn t change for
many years...
Batman, Spiderman, Superman, or even the Hulk are just echoes of what would be recognized as
folkloric like epic heroes. Basically, a hero that is pictured as a larger than life character, who
fights the forces of evil, usually pictured as a vicious, cruel, villain or gruesome fiend.
Accordingly, the story of Beowulf is a classic example of such, including a clear folkloric epic hero
which is Beowulf, who fights forces of evil, presented as Grendel, his mother, and a fire
breathing dragon. Moreover, Beowulf express an expansive deal of heroic traits; for example: his
bravery and boldness, yet baffling fairness in his decisions before his first encounter with Grendel
that can be seen in this excerpt from the poem:
Lines 259 268;
...I have heard, Too, that the monster s scorn of men Is so great that he needs no weapons and
fears none. Nor will I. My lord Higlac Might think less of me if I let my sword Go where my feet
were afraid to, if I hid Behind some board linden shield: my hands Alone shall fight for me,
struggle for life Against the monster. God must decide Who will be given to death s cold grip. ...

Feminism In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare may be the most known playwright of all time, however, you may be surprised at how
many unfair stereotypes this very famous writer incorporated into his plays. A Midsummer Night s
Dream is a comedy play written by William Shakespeare in the late 1500s that portrays events
surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to the extravagant Hippolyta, the former
queen of the Amazons. Such events included Demetrius jilting Helena at the altar and falling in
love with Helena s rival instead, Hermia. However, Hermia is in love with Lysander, not a
disdainful youth known as Demetrius. According to feminist theory, the theory that focuses on
genderinequality. A Midsummer Night s Dream would not be considered a feminist empowerment
play because throughout the play Shakespeare portrays women as timid/easily frightened. He shows
men having more power than women, and perpetuates the unfair stereotype that all women must act
a certain way.
Firstly, A Midsummer Night s Dream is a feminist disempowerment play is because women are
repeatedly portrayed as easily frightened. For example, If you roar to ferociously, you ll scare the
duchess and the other ladies and make them scream, (AMND, 1.2.29). Quince is saying that the
ladies in the audience and Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons, a woman who hunted a bear with
Hercules, will be afraid of an actor dressed as a lion saying ROAR. In addition, Quince only directs

Comparing The Afterlife In Hinduism And Christianity
The word afterlife quite literally means, life after death. For some religions, though, how this life
after death is achieved or how your experience is with it is determined by your mortal life. This
paper will discuss the different views on the afterlife between Hinduism and Christianity. The main
difference between Christianity and Hinduism is what actually happens after death. In Hinduism,
life after death is almost more considered life after life. Hindus believe in transmigration which is
the soul s passage through a series of lives in different species. In Christianity, life after death
means life after death. Christians believe that the same soul in which Hindu s possess, leaves the
expired body, and makes its move to heaven or hell. While these two concepts seem completely
foreign to each other, the process in which these stages are achieved are almost exactly identical.

your sins and give your life to Jesus Christ who died on the cross for the sole purpose of

Comparing Pros And Cone
The differences between rods and cones are useful but because both having different dim and light
conditions. The fovea consists of densely packed cone cells. The fovea part gives humans a clear
central vision, allowing reading, bird watching, or any other task which primarily needs staring at
things. As they cannot see dim stars, or other celestial objects, its needs for high intensity lightdoes
cause problems for astronomers. By using central vision because the light from these is not
enough to stimulate cone cells. Because cone cells are all that exist directly in the fovea,
astronomers have to look at stars through the corner of their eyes that is averted vision where rods
also exist. The light is sufficient to stimulate cells, allowing an individual to observe faint objects....

and cone cells contain different proteins for each color range. The process through which these
proteins go is quite similar but electromagnetic radiation of a particular wavelength and intensity.
The protein breaks down into two constituent products. Rhodopsin, of rods, breaks down into opsin

activation of Transducin. This activates cyclic GMP Phosphodiesterase, which lowers the number
of open cyclic nucleotide gated ion channels on the cell membrane, which leads to hyper

Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because Friar could have told
everyone that they were married and he gives Juliet the potion. This conflict could have easily
been resolved if Friar Lawrence would have been truthful. The first reason I gave you is that
Friar Lawrence could have told everybody. He agreed to marry Paris and Juliet after Friar had
married Romeo and Juliet. This leads to Romeo thinking Juliet is dead and killing himself. The
two families might have understood there children s to marry each other if it was coming from
a Friar. Lawrence could have also told Paris to not marry Juliet when Paris was talking to him. I

that Friar shouldn t have given Juliet the potion. Giving Juliet the potion have to many things that

Neanderthal Extinction Essay
Neanderthal Extinction
Neanderthals and modern humans coexisted for well over 100,000 years. Then suddenly Homo
neandertalensis began to die out and surrender the earth to Homo sapiens. Paleontologists and
anthropologists have entertained several possibilities to the causes of this event: interbreeding
among Neanderthals and humans, competition for natural resources, and Darwin s theory of
survival of the fittest. What the real cause has been has plagued scientists for years. Now, due to an
international research team from Germany, those possibilities have been even further deduced,
making it easier to pinpoint the exact reason Homo neandertalensis became extinct. Scientists

The fossils which passed the amino acid tests were called transitional elements between the two
species. They represented a part of Europe where the Neanderthals and early humans would have
more than likely encountered each other. The same DNA sequence was found in Neanderthals
and early humans, but also in ancient cave bears from Croatia and Austria. This made the
researchers skeptical of their findings and decided to test for mtDNA stands. When the fossils
were further analyzed, the researchers found that the mtDNA embedded in the Neanderthal
fossils was of a different strain than that in the early humans, which was of course, different from
that of the ancient cave bears. So what does this all mean for the modern world? For starters, it
brings scientists one step closer to finalizing the evolution debate. With ruling out this one
possibility, the origins of modern humans become easier to indicate and easier to prove. By
learning where we came from, we, as humans, can better understand ourselves. We learn about our
ancestors and how they lived how they survived. We also learn about our relatives, how they
functioned, and what caused them to fall. Tactics of survival are discovered that may still be
relevant today. There are still missing pieces to the grand puzzle of history, but our newfound
knowledge of mtDNA has made it easier for us to comprehend what exactly happened those

chemically bind with negative charge fats, lipids, proteins, cholesterol, macromolecules and metal

* The Influence of Essentialst Attitudes Portrayed in the Modern Day Sitcom on the Views and
Beliefs of Modern Society.
Throughout its long history, the sitcom has been commonly understood to define the cultural norms
of modern society through such comedy techniques as satire and irony. Like modern society,
certain characteristics of the sitcom have evolved over time, while others have remained
consistent. The evolution of the sitcom coincides with the generational shift in attitudes of society
towards certain beliefs and values. So, it would seem that there must be some sort of correlation
between the evolution of the sitcom and that of society, as if one is the cause of the other. * *

Recent sitcoms have challenged and broadened the idea of traditional stereotypes. For example,
Gencarella (2005,394) argues that the four main characters of Seinfeld represent four distinct
political stereotypes: the individualist, the hierarchical, the egalitarian, and the fatalist. The way
these political stereotypes interact with each other and their community have no doubt contributed
to the comicality and thus the success of the show. *
Unlike the 2005 sit com The Office (American version), Seinfeld does not consistently display
essentialist traits in its characters. It conveys essentialist themes through satirical situations
involving essentialism. This is none more evident than the following example ( The Yada Yada),
which Gencarella (2005,398) also uses to describe the egalitarian nature of Kramer:
* Jerry: Those people can be so touchy. * Kramer:Those people. Listen to yourself. * Jerry:

For example, some people argue that Bond is perceived as the anti hero. This interpretation would
make sense because some people believe that Bond lacks conventional heroic attributes. He often
uses fancy weapons, like a handgun that recognizes his palm print, and different specialized
methods of transportation. In addition, his character, often drinking, sexualized, and in the
beginning weak, is seen as having non heroic characteristics. However, this view is ultimately
weakened by not acknowledging the validity of Campbell s research on the hero journey. The
journey begins when the hero receives the call. This call is represented in the movie by Bond
witnessing the attack on MI6 on the newscast, he then returns to Britain to begin his mission. The
call removes the hero from their typical environment, for Bond was life on the beach, to complete
their quest. This argument is supported by Lynnette Porter, who explains that often in literature into
a troubled time comes a call to action, to change, to adventure, perhaps to heroism. The potential
hero hears this call and decides to answer, this reflects the exact moment Bond received his call
while spending all night at the bar (110). This call inevitably starts Bond on his hero journey.
Although in the beginning Bond may not present the characteristics of a hero, he follows the hero s
journey throughout the plot and proves to be a heroic

1.4 Explain the similarities and differences between the different methods.
Total quality management system involves handling, controlling and directing to achieve
excellence. There are four main methods used in quality management system; ISO series, six sigma,
lean and business process reengineering. There exist similarities and differences among the four
methods. The differences among the methods exist in the application of each.
ISO standard focuses on the performance consistency for quality product, where Six Sigma
measures of the quality strives for the near perfection. Lean production concerns for the reduction
of quantity of resources used. Business process reengineering involves the change of people and
other aspects for the changing technology (Andersson, Eriksson Torstensson, 2006).
Each method benefits the company by improving process, reducing cost and eliminating cost.
Improving process:
Each of the four methods concerns about the current process used by the company. Employees
review current processes and find ways how to make the process more efficient. Effects of
methods are also considered. Effects of using one method are cost of producing product, pressure
on employee and quality of the final product.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Building A Bridge Between...
Rhetorical Analysis of Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities
On February 14, 2016, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an essay by Julio M. Ottino
and Gary Saul Morson entitled Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities. Ottino
and Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of
the essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed
simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a weak informal tone in the middle of their
argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to
their audience, college and university faculty and administrators.
Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The
authors use a jovial tone to portray the current engineering field as booming and an essential part of
innovation. They use the appeal of logos to convey the current issues with humanities programs by
suggesting, The humanities, by contrast, are in peril, with fewer students each year. Morson and
Ottino show the current state of both the engineering and humanities fields in order to emanate a
sense of urgency to the reader. This introduction shows that there is a need to fix the humanities
field because it is slowly decreasing to nothing. Most college and university faculty know the
current state of the humanities field. However, Ottino and Morson start their

Contradictions in the Great Gatsby Essay
Contradictions in the Great Gatsby They were known as the roaring twenty s because the
economy at the time was through the roof and people were partying all over the place. At the
time there was a prohibition on the manufacturing and sales of intoxicating drinks. Since a lot of
people did not feel like drinking gin they made in their bathtubs all the time, there was a huge
market for organized crime. Organized criminals catered to the needs of the drinking public by
illegally supplying them with liquor and made a fortune doing it. Even with all the crime in the
jazz age, it will still be remembered for its glittering lights and unbridled romance. This just goes to

According to Figure 2.8, node 7, node 8 and node 9 do not have any other predecessors except
node 5 node 6 and by removing non instantiated methods they become head nodes. So, I should
remove these heads from graph and this new graph can be considered as RTA result for the given
CHA Call Graph (Figure 2.9).
Figure 2.9: The result of removing head nodes from graph
To clarify this approach, I will use the computed Class Hierarchy Analysis Call Graph from the
first example (Figure 2.6) and convert it to RTA. Since set of instantiated classes contains Class B
Class C, according to the algorithm, I have to remove node A.m( ).
Moreover, if I check Call Graph again, I will find that node Interface.( ) has a reflexive edge and it s

Love Is A Tender And Resilient Matter
Love is a tender and resilient matter, existing in all things since the Lord created the heavens and

good and it is explained in the Bible of the three different and enduring kinds of love: Eros, Agape

The first love is exponentially described in the Bible Eros love. This specific kind of love is
based off of the physical traits associated with sexual as well as emotional involvement. That

Postscript On The Societies Of Control Society Essay
The computer, one of the icons of the information age, has become an integral part of society.
Email has replaced snail mail, online videos have replaced the tape cassette, and social media
has replaced the village square. In his essay Postscript on the Societies of Control, the French
philosopher Gilles Deleuze argues that the rise of the computer heralds the transition from a
disciplinary society to a control society, where people are no longer viewed as individuals, but as
dividuals, like data points in a system. In her book How We Became Posthuman, Katherine Hayles
gives examples of the dividualizing effect computers have on individuals. Deleuze s control society
stands in contrast to the older disciplinary societies outlined by another French philosopher, Michel
Foucault. In his book Discipline and Punish, Foucault describes what he terms a panopticon, a
system in which a large number of subjects are observed from a central location, knowing that they
may be observed but not knowing when they are, in an effort to induce them to self discipline their
own behavior. The panopticon forms the basis of a disciplinary society, which uses panoptic
institutions such as school, prisons, and hospitals to encourage individuals to conform to certain
standards and norms (e.g. learned, law abiding, healthy). In the article The Subject and Power ,
Foucault further discusses the power relationships that underlie such disciplinary societies,
asserting that power in

Analysis Of Dale Carnegie s Book How On Win Friends And...
Dale Carnegie s book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, discusses 30 principles that are
essential to the life of an individual and how they can contribute to their career success. These
principles, if applied with good effort, can be useful to one s daily life in business. The first
standard Carnegie discusses is to not criticize, condemn, or complain (80). In my life, I have
seen this principle in action through the way people treat and interact with others. It is
important to not be critical of the efforts of others because they are working hard to be
successful like everyone else and we must be conscious of the impact our words have on people
around us. I have found myself degrading the efforts of others out of jealousy which caused me
to feel guilty about the words I chose to say. The words a person chooses to say can mean the
difference between the continuation or termination of a relationship. The second principle the book
discussed is to give sincere and honest appreciation to others (80). In my lifetime, I have seen
honesty and sincerity serve as a valuable asset to my education because showing appreciation to my
professors for their mentorship and teaching has helped me grow in knowledge of accounting,
professionalism, and relationships. It is important to be grateful for the opportunities a person is
given to use their gifts and talents. The skills I have acquired while in college will continue to

The Origins Of Computer Science
The origins of computers date back to the mid 1900s. During the creation, the binary code of zeros
and ones was formulated as a basic foundation of what computers can run off of. This code was
used to communicate to a computer and manipulate it to assess whatever tasks need to be dealt
with. As more of these problems arose, the communication between computers and humans became
more complicated. Computers began growing more in fame and need. Computerengineers were
faced with a problem as to how to make the connection between man and machine less
complicated, thus computer languages were formed. They created a higher level language
system, one that was much easier for programmers to work with compared to the binary code .
Through the years, these languages developed with the complexity of computers themselves. The
world was beginning to see just how important computers were for everyday life, and the need
for the people who work with them were equally as needed. To justify the argument of the
computer science field increasing, we must first talk about the origin of computer science itself.
Before the 1840 s, no one was thinking about programming or rather the concept of, a program as
a series of instructions controlling the operation of a general purpose computer (Haigh). However,
according to Where Code Comes From: Architectures of Automatic Control from Babbage to Algol
by Thomas Haigh and Mark Priestley, Charles Babbage was the first to really tackle this

The Tell Tale Heart Literary Analysis
Developing Horror
Horror is fiction that scares the audience or gives an eerie mood. Each short story develops horror
is its own way. The Tell Tale Heart is about how an old man is murdered because of his evil vulture
eye. A Rose for Emily is about how an old woman poisoned her lover to keep him from leaving.
The Lottery is about how this town has a drawing to see who will be the sacrifice to the crops.
Horror is developed in The Tell Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, and The Lottery with many elements
of horror.
First, horror is developed in The Tell Tale Heart by the insanity of the narrator. The narrator
believes he is a sane person, but contradicted himself when he kills the old man. This creates a
complex in the character s mind. When the police shows because the neighbors heard a yell, he
begins to hear the old man s heartbeat, but his guilt consumes him and he confesses to murdering
the old man and putting his body underneath the floorboards. Also, in the beginning of the story,
the narrator describes why he wants to kill the old man. It was impossible to say how first the
idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night (Para. 2). His insane idea
of killing the old man because of his vulture eye pops into his thoughts without a preconceived
notion of doing so. The murder is premeditated and thought out as each night he cracks the door
open and glares the lantern directly at the vulture eye. The insanity of the narrator develops The Tell
Tale Heart into horror.
Next, horror is developed in A Rose for Emily by the southern gothic elements. Emily s
psychological issues depict a twisted turn in the story. When Emily keeps her father s body in
her house for three days after he died, it sets up for a future turn of events. After she dies, the
town women go to her house, but when they get to her house and go inside; they discover her
lover petrified in the upstairs room. The man himself lay in the bed. For a long while we just
stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin (Para. 58). Homer, her lover and
husband to be, was dead in the bed. Emily poisoned him because she did not want him to leave
again, so she could keep him forever. She is

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plant
It is no doubt that Nuclear is very powerful and that it can cause some good things to happen but
we can not ignore the horrible things that it has done to our planet and ecosystem. There are two
sides to this argument if we should close nuclear power plants or we shouldn t in my personal
opinion I think that we should close these plants. But before I had to make my decision I had to
do some research on both sides so here is what I found.
One of the pros of Nuclear power is that, if we use Nuclear Power then we will use Fossil Fuels a
lot less than we normally use them, and this would help stop the greenhouse gases from going
into the air. (CO2 and others.) Also, another good thing about Nuclear power is that it is low
operation costs, nuclear power produces very inexpensive electricity. Also, even though the
expense of setting up nuclear power plants is moderately high, the expense of running them is
quite low. These Nuclear plants can be shut down if other resources are to be very high and
when they are not in high demand then the Nuclear plant can be up and running again. But then
again, Nuclear power gives us new ways to defend ourselves for wars for the future since we
have used it in the past. However, the normal life of nuclear reactor is anywhere from 40 60
years, depending on how often it is used and how it is being used. Even if we run out of Nuclear
power then we might be able to still use the fission reaction to make more reliable resources in the
future

The Censorship Of The Media
Despite Trump s obvious bigotry and objectively harmful policies, he has enjoyed a meteoric rise
to the face of the Republican Party in the 2015 elections. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party s
nominee, Hillary Clinton, faces a litany of allegations regarding her mishandling of classified
information of an attack on an American embassy in a foreign nation. Many late night television
hosts often joke that these two candidates are in a race that they should win because their
opponent is quite obviously a terrible choice. And yet as Americans debate the the merits of these
candidates, many other countries and their politics are disregarded. In a global economy, the
ongoings of the world inform American policy and economics. Yet Americans remain ambivalent
because other countries are not debated in the news. The news media implicitly apply filters to
their coverage of news stories to inform the public thereby creating a narrative skewed by political
or financial gain to influence their viewers. Because the media is privatized, it is difficult to
recognize this propaganda system. Careful dissection of the time and space dedicated to each story

Uncertainty Reduction Theory Paper
Engaging in new Cognitive uncertainty means uncertainty related to beliefs and attitudes of people.
Strangers are not aware of each other s beliefs and attitudes on initial interaction, so uncertainty is
high at this point. Experiences for the first time can be rather daunting. Especially when meeting
someone new and of higher social standing. The degree of separation between the two parties can
leave a sense of unease or uncertainty. Charles Berger and Richard Calabrese developed what came
to be known as Uncertainty Reduction Theory. This Theory can be stated as such, When strangers

Uncertainty as an affective condition is characterized by negative feeling of anxiety, frustration,
apprehension, and worry. (Brumfield, 2008). These feelings can easily be generated with someone
new because of the uncertainty about social beliefs, common interests, political values, etc. The
importance of a first impression sets the foundation for entering a new relationship with new co
workers. Due to the important nature of this stage it can be very stressful, not to mention that these
interactions are taking place with numerous people not a singular person. Learning new
mannerisms and behaviors for every individual is the main way to reduce the uncertainty. The more
the communication takes place the more barriers will come down and the quality of the
conversations will increase. During the entry phase mainly demographics are shared, which is just
enough information to get to know the new people in the workplace. Some of the demographics
that will be shared are age, social status, economic status and topics of that nature. Development of
those conversations start the personal phase, when opinions and beliefs begin to surface that
indicates the steps into phase two. People are naturally information seeking, which decreases as
uncertainty about the other person decreases (businesstopia.net, 2018). During this phase the
conversations feel less forced and more fluid, being able to share more personal information
without the worry of upsetting the other person. In a new workplace especially a new one it is
important to establish personal relationships with people that will be working within a proximity
every day. Over time the need to share rapid amounts of information will decrease and instead more
qualitive information will be shared. Conversations will be able to be upheld for longer durations of

Piaget and Vygotsky
Introduction
Cognitive development is interpreted as the gradual orderly development of thinking, understanding
and reasoning processes from birth to maturity. The aim of primary school is to build the
knowledge and the skills children need to have for further cognitive development. Therefore, the
constant development of coginition is very important to young children, because it gives them the
basic understanding towards themselves and the world. As a result, in order to assist and support
children s early cognitive development, teachers apply the ideas of educational theorists such as
Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky in teaching.

In conclusion, most of children are in preoperational stage, but heading to concrete operational
stage, they gradual gain more logical thinking skills and reversibility through game making,

In order to help children s cognitive development, the application of Piaget and Vygotsky theories
are highly positive and critical. As Woolfolk and Margetts (2010) mentioned, teachers can extend
children s knowlegde by using children s disequilibration as the motivation. The use of cultural tools

The Writing A Great Swoosh Of Energy
Students will write numerous essays throughout their high school years, and most teachers adapt
some form of in class editing, or peer editing. Though the problem with this is that poor editors do
not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well.
Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft
is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every
sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the
writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10
drafts (Epstein para. 10). Of course, it often ends up being a repetitive and extensive process;
however, if it seems boring, then the editingis not being executed correctly. Though often perceived
as tedious, editing an essay is indubitably the most enjoyable part of the writing process.
Overview
Editing an essay is fairly simple. An editor s job is to mark up the essay, piece by piece, and
ameliorate it. As a work in progress , the writing goes through stages, and the editorial stage will
help trim and sharpen the final piece (Van Patten para. 1). The first draft is expected to be messy
and long, for it is just the writer transferring ideas from his/her mind onto the paper; proofreading
and revising it will completely transform the jumble of words into a presentable work.

Geishas are regarded as cultural icons of Japan. Before World War II, many young girls had no
choice in their decision of becoming geishas. Their parents usually sold them to an okiya, (where

Effects Of Physical Activity On Academic Performance
It is well known that exercise and physical activity have myriad positive effects and benefits on a
person s physical health. A similar concept to think about is the relationship between physical
activity and mental health, specifically academic performance. Through my research of studies,
trials, and reviews I believe that physical activity has a positive effecton academic performance,
leading to higher grade point averages, achievement in post compulsory education, and learning. To
look at the effects of physical activity on academic performance, researchers Kari, Pehkonen, Nen,
Raitakari, and Tammelin conducted a longitudinal study entitled, Longitudinal Associations
between Physical Activity and Educational Outcomes, examining physical activity performed in
leisure time outside of school affected academic achievement throughout basic education and
education obtained in adulthood. The study looked at Finnish male and female children ages 12
and 15, and continued collecting data until the subjects reached their 40s. The participants self
reported their physical activity in overall leisure time outside school hours, participation in sports
club training sessions, and participation in sports competitions. Academic performance was
measured in the form of the grade point average and years of post compulsory education attained in
adult hood. The researchers found that physical activity in childhood positively affected the
educational outcome of their subjects. They noted

Mid life Crisis 1 Mid life transition can be seen as a difficult process because it is the point of
our lives where we start to accept the end of our youth and begin the process of aging. For those
who do not have a smooth emotional transition can suffer from a mid life crisis. What is mid life
crisis? Someone who would be going through a Mid life crisis is that of the age between 40 and
60( Development in midlife, 2004). It is the point during our lives where we go through periods

What are some external factors that cause mid life crisis? Although mid life crisis can be
triggered by difference experience, it can also be triggered by external factors. Those who have
a difficult time transitioning into mid life and suffer from a mid life crisis is due to external
factors ( Development in midlife, 2004). The transition can be more difficult because the person
may be experiencing stress in their or they may have childhood issues that was never dealt with
before that have come to the surface during the transition ( Development in midlife, 2004). Some
examples of external factors that can make transition into mid life difficult are debt because most
people are living above their means and accumulated credit card debt ( Development in midlife,
2004). This can be problematic for someone in their middle age because they are in debt and
facing retirement which causes more stress to an already stressful time. In this particular situation,
someone who isn t suffering form a mid life crisis would seek help for their debt issue and

Carnival Event Planning Simulation
As mentioned, sponsorship from local vendors and donors will contribute a great deal for this
particular event. An average 5K run is said to coast between $1,000 $3,000. CFU can set an
expected budget of $2,000 for its first year. These fixed estimated costs should cover location, DJ,
or other materials needed for the organizations. Donors can potentially donate other contributions
such as food and tents. Each participant will be required to fundraise or $60.00, in exchange for
an opportunity to participate in the walk and a T Shirt which, each unit price of a T shirt is likely
to estimate to be $5.00. Within the first year the organization should set a goal to have about 175
participants or donors enter the race, this will generate about $7,625.00... Show more content on

organization to a $49,500.00 profit in just ticket sales for a 3 day weekend. The organization
should also aim to increase tent rentals to food vendors for $800.00 and aim to have about 20
vendors, which will have them profit for $48,000.00 for a 3 day weekend. This will lead the

Friendly Takeover
Introduction
This is a research assignment regarding the analysis of a friendly takeover example and a hostile
takeover example in the year 2010 to 2011. As for the friendly takeover acquisition, it is still in
process with a vertical business combination of building materials supper and peat moss distributor.
As for the hostile takeover acquisition, this is a Horizontal Business Combination of two mineral
mining companies.
Friendly Takeover Example Vertical business combination
IKO Enterprises Ltd. acquiring Sun Gro Horticulture Inc.

to pursue a plan of arrangement of acquisition.
Expected Benefits in Acquisition
New Pacific Metals Corp. seeks to control Tagish Lake Gold Corp. and managed the subsidiary for
this hostile takeover bid. New Pacific has completed the acquisition of a 100% interest in Tagish
Lake Gold Corp. and it will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of New Pacific., and will share its
main asset which comprises 982 mining claims covering a 178 square kilometer area located
approximately 80 kilometers by road south of Whitehorse, YukonTerritory, Canada.
Result and Actual Benefits Received after Acquisition
After acquiring Tagish Lake Gold Corp., New Pacific share price went up from $1.63 per share to
$2.15 per share (Feb. 11th 2011). New Pacific now has rights to develop Tagish Lake s Skukum
Gold Project to production while carrying out exploration on the project to grow its resource.
Conclusion
After finished this research project of friendly and hostile takeover cases, I found out that most
hostile takeover cases had difficulty in negotiating prices with acquires. New pacific Metals Corp.
and Tagish Lake Gold Corp. is a example. After the acquirer offering a fairly high price, they still
got strongly rejected from acquiree. By the time the acquiree s stock price is likely to rise after the
announcement of the hostile takeover. I think it is because there was more attractive to investors to

Erich Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front Essay
Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front
I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous
superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in
silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (263). Powerful changes
result from horrifying experiences. Paul Baumer, the protagonists of Erich Remarque s All Quiet on
the Western Frontutters these words signifying the loss of his humanity and the reduction to a
numbed creature, devoid of emotion. Paul s character originates in the novel as a young adult, out
for an adventure, and eager to serve his country. He never realizes the terrible pressures that war ...

He states that when he goes home, his family will be shocked to hear this language. Paul treats his
lingual freedom as privilege that soldiers have, and shows the benefits of living a soldier s life. He
refers to the front as if it were a paradise, for he can use vulgar language and not worry about
manners and decorum. He treats his service as a time for relaxation, recreation, and a little
excitement. This attitude becomes short lived as the realities of war sink in. When Paul
volunteers for reconnaissance one night, he becomes stranded in No Man s Land (the area
between opposing trenches) and begins to realize the brutality of war and starts to lose his own
humanity. At the beginning of the book, Paul shows care towards his fellow soldiers and treats his
service as an adventure by his education of the recruits and his excitement towards the boundaries
of his vocabulary.
When Paul becomes stranded in No Man s Land, he undergoes the transformation from a carefree
young adult to an inhumane, lifeless shell of a man. The change begins when Paul hides in a shell
hole, waiting for a pause in the bombardment. A French soldier jumps in as well, looking for
shelter. Paul has prepared for this circumstance and stabs him three times. Paul s strikes are not
mortal enough, for the wounds do not immediately kill the Frenchman. The enemy soldier dies over
the next day, and while the soldier slides inexorably into the throes of death, Paul

Mentoring In The Classroom
III.Mentoring Life is a continuous learning experience, so even those who are knowledgeable
still need someone to act as their mentors. As we continue to seek for knowledge, we become
more efficient in our chosen field or career path. Just like being a teacher, it is like a
rollercoaster ride of a colorful experience. In times when a teacher is on top, he feels like he
doesn t need anyone but when he s at the bottom, he will seek for an experienced teacher to
motivate him and bring back the momentum to him. However, no matter if you are on top or the
bottom, a teacher should always look up to someone for professional learning. Mentoring is a
teacher to motivational teacher scenario that is an effective technique for obtaining professional
development. The objectives of this strategy are to assist new teachers most especially as they
begin their career as educators and to hone the leadership ability of mentors. By using this strategy,
the expected results would be the enhancement of quality learning while developing teachers
knowledge; establishing professional learning communities and honing leadership ability within the
school. The key elements mentioned in the book were concrete and clear. First, mentors possess...

He is not just and evaluator but also a confidant, a confidence builder, and an observer. As a
confidant, mentors should know how to let a teacher open up without hesitation or fear. If a teacher
freely expresses himself to his mentor, he will be an effective teacher producing successful
students. Trust is an essential factor in mentoring. The mentor and the teacher should relentlessly
cultivate trust in their relationship. By doing so, the mentor can give great advice and guidance
every time, and the teacher would always take note of the wisdom he acquires from his mentor.
They should always be attentive to each other s needs for a better professional learning (Cutler,

  • 7. Comparing The Different Classes Of Glutamate Receptors Essay Compare and contrast the different classes of glutamate receptors. Glutamate as a neurotransmitter In the brain, neurons communicate between each other and with target cells via a great numbers of chemicals they release, so called neurotransmitters. A signal in the brain is sent from a presynaptic neuron to a postsynaptic cell through synaptic transmission, allowing the brain to process information in a rapid way. (SГјdhof, Starke and Boehm, 2008) One of the most important transmitters within the vertebrate nervous system for normal brain function is known to be glutamic acid also known as glutamate. In the mammalian central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) is acknowledged that almost all excitatory neurons are glutamatergic and approximately more than 40% of the synapses in the brain release the amino acid glutamate. (Purves et al., 2001) The interaction of this major neurotransmitter with different cells in the brain is dependent on whether the cells express receptors for glutamate on their surfaces, to which they can bind and activate. (Hu, Ondrejcak and Rowan, 2012) Glutamate interaction with glutamate receptors plays a role in the efficacy of synaptic plasticity, which is fundamental for many neurological functions such as memory, learning, behaviour and in addition during development in the formation of neural connections within the central nervous system (CNS), thus allowing neurons to communicate with each other (Sundaram, Gowtham and Nayak, 2012) ... They represented a part of Europe where the Neanderthals and early humans would have more than likely encountered each other. The same DNA sequence was found in Neanderthals and early humans, but also in ancient cave bears from Croatia and Austria. This made the researchers skeptical of their findings and decided to test for mtDNA stands. When the fossils were further analyzed, the researchers found that the mtDNA embedded in the Neanderthal fossils was of a different strain than that in the early humans, which was of course, different from that of the ancient cave bears. So what does this all mean for the modern world? For starters, it brings scientists one step closer to finalizing the evolution debate. With ruling out this one possibility, the origins of modern humans become easier to indicate and easier to prove. By learning where we came from, we, as humans, can better understand ourselves. In addition, his character, often drinking, sexualized, and in the beginning weak, is seen as having non heroic characteristics. However, this view is ultimately weakened by not acknowledging the validity of Campbell s research on the hero journey. The journey begins when the hero receives the call. This call is represented in the movie by Bond witnessing the attack on MI6 on the newscast, he then returns to Britain to begin his mission. The call removes the hero from their typical environment, for Bond was life on the beach, to complete their quest. This argument is supported by Lynnette Porter, who explains that often in literature into a troubled time comes a call to action, to change, to adventure, perhaps to heroism. The potential hero hears this call and decides to answer, this reflects the exact moment Bond received his call while spending all night at the bar (110). Rhetorical Analysis of Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities On February 14, 2016, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an essay by Julio M. Ottino and Gary Saul Morson entitled Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities. Ottino and Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of the essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a weak informal tone in the middle of their argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to their audience, college and university faculty and administrators. Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The authors use a jovial tone to portray the current engineering field as booming and an essential part of innovation. They use the appeal of logos to convey the current issues with humanities programs by suggesting, The humanities, by contrast, are in peril, with fewer students each year. Morson and Ottino show the current state of both the engineering and humanities fields in order to emanate a sense of urgency to the reader. This introduction shows that there is a need to fix the humanities field because it is slowly decreasing to nothing. Most college and university faculty know the current state of the humanities field. However, Ottino and Morson start their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Postscript On The Societies Of Control Society Essay The computer, one of the icons of the information age, has become an integral part of society. Email has replaced snail mail, online videos have replaced the tape cassette, and social media has replaced the village square. In his essay Postscript on the Societies of Control, the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze argues that the rise of the computer heralds the transition from a disciplinary society to a control society, where people are no longer viewed as individuals, but as dividuals, like data points in a system. In her book How We Became Posthuman, Katherine Hayles gives examples of the dividualizing effect computers have on individuals. Deleuze s control society stands in contrast to the older disciplinary societies outlined by another French philosopher, Michel Foucault. In his book Discipline and Punish, Foucault describes what he terms a panopticon, a system in which a large number of subjects are observed from a central location, knowing that they may be observed but not knowing when they are, in an effort to induce them to self discipline their own behavior. The panopticon forms the basis of a disciplinary society, which uses panoptic institutions such as school, prisons, and hospitals to encourage individuals to conform to certain standards and norms (e.g. learned, law abiding, healthy). In the article The Subject and Power , Foucault further discusses the power relationships that underlie such disciplinary societies, asserting that power in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my life, I have seen this principle in action through the way people treat and interact with others. • 31. The Origins Of Computer Science The origins of computers date back to the mid 1900s. During the creation, the binary code of zeros and ones was formulated as a basic foundation of what computers can run off of. This code was used to communicate to a computer and manipulate it to assess whatever tasks need to be dealt with. As more of these problems arose, the communication between computers and humans became more complicated. Computers began growing more in fame and need. Computerengineers were faced with a problem as to how to make the connection between man and machine less complicated, thus computer languages were formed. They created a higher level language system, one that was much easier for programmers to work with compared to the binary code . Through the years, these languages developed with the complexity of computers themselves. The world was beginning to see just how important computers were for everyday life, and the need for the people who work with them were equally as needed. To justify the argument of the computer science field increasing, we must first talk about the origin of computer science itself. Before the 1840 s, no one was thinking about programming or rather the concept of, a program as a series of instructions controlling the operation of a general purpose computer (Haigh). However, according to Where Code Comes From: Architectures of Automatic Control from Babbage to Algol by Thomas Haigh and Mark Priestley, Charles Babbage was the first to really tackle this programming ... When the police shows because the neighbors heard a yell, he begins to hear the old man s heartbeat, but his guilt consumes him and he confesses to murdering the old man and putting his body underneath the floorboards. There are two sides to this argument if we should close nuclear power plants or we shouldn t in my personal opinion I think that we should close these plants. But before I had to make my decision I had to do some research on both sides so here is what I found. One of the pros of Nuclear power is that, if we use Nuclear Power then we will use Fossil Fuels a lot less than we normally use them, and this would help stop the greenhouse gases from going into the air. (CO2 and others.) Also, another good thing about Nuclear power is that it is low operation costs, nuclear power produces very inexpensive electricity. Also, even though the expense of setting up nuclear power plants is moderately high, the expense of running them is quite low. These Nuclear plants can be shut down if other resources are to be very high and when they are not in high demand then the Nuclear plant can be up and running again. But then again, Nuclear power gives us new ways to defend ourselves for wars for the future since we have used it in the past. However, the normal life of nuclear reactor is anywhere from 40 60 years, depending on how often it is used and how it is being used. Even if we run out of Nuclear power then we might be able to still use the fission reaction to make more reliable resources in the future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though the problem with this is that poor editors do not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well. Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10 drafts (Epstein para. 10). The study looked at Finnish male and female children ages 12 and 15, and continued collecting data until the subjects reached their 40s. The participants self reported their physical activity in overall leisure time outside school hours, participation in sports club training sessions, and participation in sports competitions. Academic performance was measured in the form of the grade point average and years of post compulsory education attained in adult hood. Erich Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front Essay Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front I am young, I am twenty years old; yet I know nothing of life but despair, death, fear, and fatuous superficiality cast over an abyss of sorrow. I see how peoples are set against one another, and in silence, unknowingly, foolishly, obediently, innocently slay one another (263). Powerful changes result from horrifying experiences. The change begins when Paul hides in a shell hole, waiting for a pause in the bombardment. A French soldier jumps in as well, looking for shelter. Paul has prepared for this circumstance and stabs him three times. Paul s strikes are not mortal enough, for the wounds do not immediately kill the Frenchman. The enemy soldier dies over the next day, and while the soldier slides inexorably into the throes of death, Paul ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
