Raising Drinking Or The Sale Of Alcohol
Organized efforts to control and limit drinking or the sale of alcohol have been persistent in the United
States since the early nineteenth century. For many years, before any public demonstration was made
against the liquor traffic, and for some years after, distilleries by many people were deemed a blessing
to the community. They provided a ready market for any surplus grain that was raised. The business
was considered respectable; and members of churches, and even deacons engaged in it without any
detriment to their moral character or standing in society. But, after a few years of temperance work, it
dawned upon the minds of some that these distilleries were a source of evil rather than good, for they
were sowing the seeds of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In America, it is a rite of passage to turn 21, and be legally allowed to consume and purchase alcohol.
It has been established beyond question that a majority of American adults, even teenagers for that
matter, drink alcoholic beverages at least upon occasion. Alcohol s meanings change as individuals go
through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol can change accordingly. Alcohol s
meanings change as individuals go through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol
can change accordingly. Drinking can be a sign of rebellion or independence during adolescence.
Moreover, in many societies it is inappropriate for elderly to engage in intoxicated partying that might
be more accepted among the young. However, as individuals in industrialized countries like America
live longer and healthier lives, these contradictory cultural views about the respectability of drinking
may need to be re examined from a historical lens. More specific elements of America s drinking
culture are examined within the intellectual history paradigm, yet the discussion is mostly of historical
contributions. On a personal level, alcohol has cultivated bonds of friendship and community based on
the similarity of livelihoods, national heritages, and neighborhoods. Bargoers have built a community

High School Should Not Be Legal
What is the most common reason why high school would go to college? My old friend Sean Kisch is
going to graduate with a major in music. His eldest sister will be done with her degree in modern
dance this semester. Looking at myself, I am not that far along. I attempted to navigate around college
because it was seen as too expensive. The mountain of debt for going to a private Christian college is
to grate to pay off. Most people are not made out of money. The money may not be the case because
an alternative does exist, it just is not as glorious. A person can obtain an associate s degree at a
community college for considerably less. Which is the choice I have made. I remember watching part
of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated that most high school teens
have the expectation of making mountains of cash. Most expected after college, they would make
around one hundred thousand dollars or more. That figure is much lower, an entry level position with
a college degree is between thirty and thirty five thousand. If you survive the odds of finishing school,
there is still the mammoth task of finding a job. The majority of student who graduate do not have any
not enough experience to enter most jobs. My friend Sean is going to Seedarville Univercity in Ohio,
he will have around forty to eighty thousand dollars of debt unless his parents are paying for it. My
own parent told me they would not pay for my school, because my parent not not make

A Brief Summary Of Starsha North
Located in the court room, so quiet one could hear a pin drop, stands Starsha North convicted of cold
blooded murder. Starsha North a quiet, calculated, woman labeled as a psychopathic schizophrenic.
Ever since a young age, Starsha had loved dogs. They were her only companion in this world and she

And defending Starsha is Cassandra Kuyper a 29 year old blonde, professionally dressed woman who
became a lawyer through hard work and dedication. She has never lost a court case and doesn t plan to
lose one. On the opposite of the side is Trent Topper. A man of mid forties, dressed in a wrinkly suit

The History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis )
Introduction:
Recent research on interpolation of climatological and meteorological information with the support of
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has shown that interpolation has a large development potential
within climatology and meteorology. At the same time the demand for interpolated data products are
increasing, numerical weather models are working at higher spatial resolutions and may be initiated by
gridded data from observations. Interpolation is a method of getting new data from some known data
points. In India, many weather data is from official departments and there are many weather sites, but
in some areas it is difficult to obtain weather data, so we will use interpolation methods to get climate
data of that areas. Interpolation can be defined as the estimation of an unknown value of the variable,
at some point where no measurement is available, where the estimate is made using known
measurements obtained at a set of sample locations. With the advent of Geographic Information
Systems (GIS), numerous spatial interpolation methods have been applied to create continuous
surfaces of climate variables at various spatial (watershed, regional, and global) and temporal (hourly,
daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual) scales. The prediction of weather condition is essential for
various applications. Like weather prediction, soil moisture, climate data monitoring, rainfall,
population prediction, agriculture, image processing etc. Regression model, Feed Forward

We kill people to show them killing is wrong. The death penalty does not punish people for killing but
for murdering someone. Murder is the unlawful, malicious, or permitted killing of one human being

The 8th amendment says that excessive bail shall not be required, or excessive fines, or cruel and
unusual punishment. The commission of human rights is a group of people putting guidelines for the
death penalty so it really isn?t cruel and unusual punishment. They have five main guidelines, here
they are. The commission of human rights urges states to restrict the number of death penalties
happening per year. Every year there should be a decreasing amount of executions. This would lead to
the abolishing of the death penalty. They urge all states that still hold the death penalty not to execute
a person as long as any related legal procedure, at international or national level. Lastly they try not to
allow the executions of the mentally ill to happen (Richard International 3). There are five ways to
execute a person. The five are: lethal gas, lethal injection, electrocution, hanging, and firing squad.
The most commonly used are lethal injection and electrocution. Lethal injection is when the people
inject a shot into both of your arms. It takes about three minutes until the acid kills you. Firing squad
is when a group of people has guns and the shoot at the murderers chest. The electric chair is when the
chair gives off 2300 volts for about ten seconds. Then there is a low voltage of 1000, which goes on
for about twenty seconds. But the murderer is usually dead by the first ten seconds. Lethal Gas is now
only used in California

The Impact of Suicide and Drug Related Deaths on the...
According to the Center for Disease Control, in 2011, the age adjusted death rate for the United States
was 740.6 per 100,000 of the population. Presumably, some may consider this a problem when
considering the impact on the bereaved. In particular, I wanted to look at families whose loss was
contributed to suicide or a drug related death. The CDC also states, with approximately 4600
adolescent suicides each year in the United States, it is the third leading cause of death for that age

motor vehicle traffic crashes (CDC Website). Families, who experience the loss of a loved one by

Triangles can be defined as an emotional response to some type of anxiety between two people that
causes them to reach out to a third party. This third entity is there to provide sympathy and to defuse
the anxiety experienced between the other two parties or individuals. In addition to Triangles,
Differentiation of Self is another key concept in Bowen s Theory. This is when an individual has the
ability to separate themselves in two ways, intellectually and emotionally. People who have
differentiated themselves from his or her family of origin, reacts to situations intellectually instead of
emotionally. Multigenerational Emotional Processes, originally called undifferentiated family ego

attach ourselves to, and how we deal with pressures of life are greatly affected, when the
undifferentiated family ego mass goes unchecked. During times of intense and prolonged family

Impairment of one or more children, and Emotional Distance. Another concept in Bowen s Theory is

Respect Of A Child In The South During The Late 1800 s
Imagine a child in the south, during the late 1800 s. There was certain manners and values that a child
would have been raised with. One of the most important of these values was to respect one s elders. A
child raised in these values would listen to an adult and think that they re right no matter the
circumstance because they are older. Also, a child would have been raised to accept certain social
injustices like slavery. This was mainly because the adults said it was alright. Mark Twain wanted
people to realize the immorality of society during the 1800s. Mark Twain first shows this with the
Widow Douglas and Ms. Watson. Huck listens to Ms. Watson and Widow Douglas because they are
civilized in his elders. He doesn t question the fact

Strengths And Weaknesses Of A Personal Study Plan
This presentation will discuss key factors that impact planning personal study, such as strengths and
weaknesses. Also, this presentation will include how to access and locate resources in the Learning

because I work as an Auxiliary Nurse and I am required to work shifts. I have no standard shift pattern
and what I have to work varies on a weekly basis, this means that can cannot allocate certain days or
time for personal study as I may be working or travelling. Attendance may also have an impact on my
ability to study this is because at my work place there is no flexible working policy available. As well
as this my ward manager is unsupportive in allowing time off for attending the college based study or
changing shifts where needed. One factors that may have a negative effect on implementing an
effective study plan is finding time to seeing my family, friends and boyfriend. I usually help look
after my younger brother who has Asperger s once a week, so that my mam can get her planning for
work and shopping done more easily. I have chronic pain issues with my back and neck this can make
it difficult to concentrate due to high dosage painkillers also, this means that I am unable to sit and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Analog Signal
An analog signal is a continuous signal in which the time varying signal is a representation of some

Analog signal processing is a type of signal processing conducted on which continuous analog signals

The difference between the analog and digital signal processing is that analog signal has continuous
values unlike the digital which has discrete values. Now a days, signal processing plays an important

As the signal is transmitted over long distances, the noise become dominant. The effects of noise
create signal loss and variation. It is not possible to recover.
Distortion in Analog Signal Defined to be the change of shape in signal sent from the source to the
destination which is due to the addition of noise in our required signal.
Thermal Noise Noise due to random motion of electrons cause thermal noise. Due to this noise signal
s shape distorted.
Attenuation is loss of energy in the signal as it is transmitted from the one point to other point. This
occurs in case the signal has to be sent over a long distance. To remove this effect we use amplifiers
which amplify the signal. But there is a problem that when we amplify the given signal the noise also
gets amplified.
Digital signal processing is the numerical manipulation of signals, usually with the measure, filter,

signals as discrete time and frequency, or other discrete domain signals in the form of a sequence of
numbers to permit the digital processing of these

Psychology Of Fear
Many individuals would agree that at least one thing terrifies them. In fact, there is a whole television
series based on what strange phobias people have. These fears or phobias can range from anything
consisting of being terrified of the dark, to being petrified to simply stand next to a person. People
often wonder what causes a fear. One unique theory as to why these fears develop, is that they are the
effect of a traumatic event that took place in the person s life. In addition, another philosophy is that
fear is the body s natural defense to danger. Whatever the cause may be, fear has the gift to maintain a

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl is a classic children s novel that intells the exciting story of
a young orphan boy named James. James lives a lonely and depressing life with his two cruel and

Civil War Prosthetics
If you compare medical procedures of over one hundred years ago to today s, you could realize the
colossal jump forward we ve made. During the Civil War, things as simple as treating a small wound
could lead to death. The big difference is between how amputations were performed during the 1860 s
and how they are performed today. My goal in this paper is to inform you on surgical procedures,
amputation techniques and prosthetics of the Civil War. The Civil War was the beginning of modern
medicine and surgical procedures. Two of every three Civil War wounds treated by surgeons were to

What Is Evil In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Canto XXVII, Dante comes across the Sowers of Scandal and Schism while on his
journey through hell. Dante, the poet, reveals that schism and scandal cause division within family and
community. The sinners must walk in an endless cycle of punishment. Their bodies are cut up by the
sword of a devil, only to heal and come back to be sliced again. These sinners are aware of certain
things going on in the world, but they can only contact the living through Dante the pilgrim. There
idea of helping the living reveals their inability to recognize their sins and why they are in hell.
Through poetic imagery and narration, Dante uses a comparison to the battle of Puglia, the mutilation
of the bodies, and the encounter with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bertran de Born s head has been severed from his body, and walks around holding his head by the
hair, swinging it just like a lantern. By advising a son to rebel against his father, he caused an unethical
divide within family and political leaders. The head, the father, is now separate from the body, the son.
Now Bertran must suffer the pains of division he has caused. Dante says of his own self he made
himself a light and they were two in one, and one in two. The contrapasso is so clear, that Bertran
himself is his own light, realizing his own sin. He is aware that he has made himself into his own

Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
In her graphic memoir Fun Home, Alison Bechdel records her unusual relationship with her late father
Bruce Bechdel and reveals her family secrets. Through Chapter Three she speculates about the reason
of her father s death after first knowing the catastrophe. By applying the allusion between writer
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald s famous character Jay Gatsby, and her father, Bechdel
effectively presents the tragic nature of her father that he lives in the fictional world created by
himself.
In this allusion, Bechdel first describes her father s reverence for Fitzgerald, highlighting the deep
influence of Fitzgerald on her father that he was fascinated by Fitzgerald s lifestyle and sentiment. She
then shifts the parallel between her father and Fitzgerlad to her father and Fitzgerald s renowned
character Gatsby. Later Bechdel realized that these three people all died at the same age, month, and
week, and began wondering that her father s death is a suicide caused by his own personality.
When Bechdel presents how her late father and Fitzgerald s character Gatsby are similar, she writes
that: Gatsby s self willed metamorphosis from farm boy to prince is in many ways identical to my
father (63). The first and foremost matching point of these two people, according to Bechdel, is their
self willed metamorphosis, a major change in the character of one person that happened because of
one s stubborn or willful adherence to his own desire (63). These two people do

The Capote Character Analysis
Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his
true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are
innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger
and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using
juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her
dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and
and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased
in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it
had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring
and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded
down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the
dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and
therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most
upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family,
but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus
Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton.
Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed
during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter
property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that
Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to
be burned.. [along with] blood soiled bedclothes, mattresses, a bedside rug, a Teddy bear doll (Capote
78). These items, representing the larger whole of the Clutter property, symbolize everything the

sense and it matches our lifestyles. Did Mother Nature know best?
But why you ask. Why are cortisol levels highest in the morning? For at least two major reasons. One.
Too get you up out of bed and ready to take on the day. Two. Working together with the hormone
glucagon cortisol raises blood sugar levels to power up your muscles and your brain! Remember you
have been fasting overnight and blood sugar levels will be low. The brain demands the body do this
and keep blood sugar levels stabilized.
Cortisol and fat accumulation
A little piece of data you need to know to lose fat. Cortisol breaks down muscle to release amino acids
(the building blocks of muscle) which are then used to make glucose, which is energy for the brain!
Think about this, where do you burn fat? In your muscles right. If you catabolise the very tissue that
burns fat you will lose your ability to burn fat and you metabolism will drop making it more difficult
to burn fat. Oh yes, you will be more tired with low energy. Cortisol also promotes belly fat
accumulation!
Further, cortisol contributes to elevated insulin with is the blood sugar balancing hormone. Elevated
insulin has two effects on fat. One it promotes fat storage. Two it inhibits fat mobilization and
utilization by muscles. Elevated insulin makes you store fat which you can t burn! YUCK!
So why is breakfast so

Benefits and Side Effects of Choline
What is Choline?
Choline is an essential nutrient that is included in the group of B vitamins. Strictly speaking, it is not a
vitamin, since it is produced in small amounts within the body, whereas vitamins are substances that
are not synthesized in the body. However, in 1998, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recognized it as a
nutrient that must be obtained from the diet to maintain health.
Most of the choline found in the body is contained in fat molecules called phospholipids, most of
which are called lecitihin or phosphatidylcholine. These molecules are important as structural
components of cell membranes.
Choline is also a precursor (a compound that reacts with another compound to form another
substance) for acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in memory,
muscle control, and other functions. It also participates in the transport and metabolism of fat, as well
as in cell signaling and in preventing imflammation. Choline Food Sources
Egg yolks are known to be a rich source of choline. Milk, liver, soybeans and peanuts are also very
rich sources of phosphatidylcholine (lecithin), which contains about 13 percent choline. Other food
sources sources include bananas, butter, cauliflower, legumes, flax seeds, sesame seeds, oranges,
potatoes, tomatoes, and whole grain cereals like barley, oats, corn, and whole wheat. Processed foods
may contain lecithin, which may add to one s daily consumption of choline.

containing real sugar when sugar cravings act up. Psychology professor Bart Hoebel indicates that too

artificial sweeteners. (Lowfatdietplan.com)

low amounts of real sugar are a better alternative.

PLOT POINT is an original dramatic, action thriller. The script is driven by solid themes about
making the right life choices, freedom, control, and destiny. The tone is consistently dramatic.
The script features a non conventional structure in which two main storylines are taking place at one

combines drama with a crime thriller.
The second plotline is a fictional or fantasy action story that is created by the protagonist s

Cheerleaders Hard Work
Hard Work Should Pay Off
Hard work and dedication pays off for athletes but goes unnoticed for cheerleaders. The hard work
that is put in by cheerleaders needs to be recognized. Allowing cheerleaders to earn an athletic letter
but not be a part of the Chillicothe High School (CHS) C Club, like the other athletic letter recipients,
is being unjust to the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders should be able to be a part of the CHS C Club
because cheerleaders are able to receive an athletic letter, dedicate personal time, and follow Missouri
State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) regulations.
Cheerleaders, along with athletes in varsity sports, receive an athletic letter at the end of the season,
but only the athletes able to be a part of the CHS C Club. C Club is for students who have received an
athletic letter in a sport. AHere at CHS the cheerleading squad is considered only a club, not a sport.
All athletes that are a part of a varsity sport will receive an athletic letter. Cheerleading, although a
club, will receive an athletic letter. Since the cheerleaders are not considered a sport they are not able

The And Its Effects On The Food Industry
While FM provide a more practical aspect to MG, barriers to the use of MG are mainly due to its
various perceptions and the question of whether it would be enough to constitute a real paradigm shift.
According to This (2013), the way food is prepared has gone through very slow and minor changes,
relative to other fields. While more energy efficient stoves have been manufactured, the stove is a
ubiquitous appliance in the kitchen despite the fact that most of the heat produced is wasted to the
surroundings instead of applied directly to the pan and food. There are several reasons for the
relatively slow growth of the food industry. From an anthropological viewpoint, humans are naturally

rapidly growing, and leading various food movements (Vega Ubbink, 2008). As a result of the

John Cousins, the director of The Food and Beverage Training Company in London, teamed up with
two other experts in hospitality management and interviewed many acclaimed chefs to gauge their
perception of MG. While all interviewees understood and embraced the original and straight forward
intentions of Herve This, most agreed that the significant media coverage had sensationalized MG to a
point where it could not redeemed (Cousins et al., 2010). Many chefs also did not see the value in
MG; they argued that it was no different than food science and that they were already doing the
research in their own kitchens. Commonly mistaken as a style of cooking, MG became a fad,

Questions On Margin Of Error
What is margin of error?
Margin of error is a common summary of sampling error that quantifies uncertainty about survey
results. Three pieces of data are needed to express the confidence interval, : statistic, confidence level,
and margin of error. Confidence Interval is usually stated in the following format: 95 percent
confidence intervals, or accurate 19/20 times with a margin of error of +/ 5%. This means that 19 out
of 20 times it is expected that the mean of the survey result (stats) will fall within 5% above or below
the true value. There are strict parameters that determines on which survey results a Margin of Error

Integrity of Reporting
(a) Researchers must not knowingly allow the dissemination of conclusions from a market research
project which are not adequately supported by the data. They must always be prepared to make
available the technical information necessary to assess the validity of any published findings.
(b) This entails that:
1. Researchers must recommend those techniques and methodologies which are appropriate to the

The Reception And Influence Of Rebecca Harding Davis
Among the multitudes of upper class women in the nineteenth century, struggling with their own
problems, few felt the need to speak out for others, especially the lower classes. However, Rebecca
Harding Davis observed the suffering of all humanity and decided to give everyone a voice through
her writings. Throughout her career, Davis wrote an innumerable amount of works advocating for
equal rights among all people, right up until her death in 1910. The following paper will analyze and
discuss the reception and influence that Rebecca Harding Davis s works of literary realism had on the
hierarchy of society, in relation to class, from the nineteenth century to the present. Furthermore,
Davis s own personal experiences will also be discussed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond her parents, Davis was also influenced by many notable authors who showed her that
everyday life and people could actually be depicted in literature. Among these notable authors, Davis
particularly favored Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales, and the stories within this collection
shocked Davis at their boldness. One of these short stories within Hawthorne s collection in particular,
entitled The Ambitious Guest, was fascinating to Davis because of the horrifying ending in which
everyone dies. This ending completely went against what Davis had been exposed to growing up in a
society coddled by Romanticism, and she enjoyed the change. Together, these influences created a
pioneer for a crucial development in literature: the transition from Romanticism to Realism.
Beginning in 1830, which is, ironically, the year Davis was born, a new literature movement called
Romanticism began. This movement was characterized by stories laden with sentimentality and
focused on the individual. One notable example of a romanticized story would be Sir Walter Scott s
Ivanhoe, in which Ivanhoe falls madly in love with Rowena and does everything in his power to win
her over. This story was one of the many that Davis was exposed to growing up, and she quickly came
to reject the ideals of Romanticism. Davis saw these works of literature as egotistical and
melodramatic, and while she enjoyed good stories, she determined that they could not make any

Oddi Banding Essay
Oddi Banding Weight Loss Procedure Morbidly obese patients have recently been introduced to a
rapid weight loss procedure called Oddi Banding. The procedure is comparable to gastric banding in
that it works by attaching a small plastic band around the sphincter of Oddi (SO), compressing the
outer wall. The SO has many different important purposes that are adversely affected by this
procedure. Some of these side effects include: anemia, elevated white blood cell count, abnormal
discomfort after eating, scaring of the Sphincter of Oddi, damage to organs and even death. All of
these elements will be explained below in further detail. (CQUniversity, 2015) What is the sphincter
of Oddi? The Sphincter of Oddi is a construction of smooth muscle fibers surrounding the duodenal

Solid casings that contain pain fibers encapsulate organs such as the liver and gallbladder. The
swelling and stretching of these organs stimulate these fibers to produce abdominal pain. (Kathryn L.
McCance, 2014) The gallbladder holds approximately 90ml of concentrated bile. Each day 700 to
1200 ml of bile is secreted and drained into the common bile duct and into the duodenum. (Kathryn L.
McCance, 2014) As outlined earlier the blockage of the Sphincter of Oddi will cause all of this bile to
be forced back up the common bile duct and into the gallbladder. The amount of fluid produced in a
day far outweighs the capacity of the gallbladder causing it to become distended. This distention
activates the pain fibers causing abdominal discomfort, especially during large meals. The same
mechanism is found when the pancreas secretes pancreatic enzymes. The enzymes become stuck at
the SO and are required to travel back up the main pancreatic duct into the pancreas; this causes pain
and discomfort due to the distention of the

The Citizen Architect Is Not Driven By The Financial Gain...
Cesal argues that the citizen architect should be concerned with their role within the community and
how to better serve the people that comprise it. A true citizen architect is not driven by the financial
gain of the projects themselves or the social status attributed to them. Instead the architect should re
evaluate their role as a true servant of the public and implement that sense of purpose to drive their
craft rather than just the desire for social status. Cesal desires for architects to go beyond their
professional title and actively seek out ways to better their environment by bridging the gap between
architects and their communities. He is asking architects to take responsibility in their communities
and not merely pass the problems on to other public servants. There is a need for architects and
politics to coexist to on equal grounds within projects to ultimately decipher what is best for the
communal area.
Cesal argues that with these complications skyrocketing within the past years and consistently
increasing, architects should have considered this an issue long ago. Although we cannot turn back the
clock, we are able to control what happens today and the day that are to come. One of the most
important pieces of insight that Cesal exposes to his audience is that architects need to embrace this
notion in all matters of their professional life to truly reap the societal benefits from it. Only then can
we begin to deconstruct and revaluate the role of

Transferring Knowledge
Throughout life, people in many positions attain knowledge that can be of use in a variety of different
ways, such as a job, a social setting, or an educational setting. Throughout the first semester of
freshman year at the University of Oklahoma I was a participant in a Principles of English
Composition class that was intellectually challenging whilst still maintaining the expectations of a first
year English class. In the semester of English 1113, the class discussed discursive practices,

Using the CARS model I established a niche, which was to explain the workings of the political

to analyze a discourse community helps a research paper because it helps one to understand what is
important within a group of people. The paper was very useful, because having knowledge of
discourse communities will help me in the future. In English 1113, a considerable amount of time was
spent on understanding how discourse communities function and what a discourse community really
is. This knowledge is extremely useful for future classes, and even in future jobs. In John Swales s,
The Concept of Discourse Community , he writes about how discourse communities use specific
terms, have specific genres, and have an amount of members that is necessary for the Community to
function (Swales). Having this knowledge of how a discourse community functions will be key in my

one. In the career path I choose to follow I will need to use my knowledge of a discourse community. I
will need to analyze the discourse community to figure out what terms are used, what genres are held

Prejudice, Discrimination, And Discrimination
What is Aversive Prejudice/Discrimination All types of prejudice vary in some ways , some people are
very blunt and some people merely whisper under their breath or secretly avoid the people they
dislike. This falls more in between those line with this being an example of averise racism specifically
Aversive racists, in contrast, sympathize with victims of past injustice, support principles of racial
equality, and genuinely regard themselves as non prejudiced, but at the same time possess conflicting,
often non conscious, negative feelings and beliefs about Blacks that are rooted in basic psychological
processes that promote racial bias. (Pearson, A., Dovidio, J., Gaertne, S. , 2009) which means that
even at times they may support the opposite such as against prejudice and to help people as such but
still see them as unsavory and avoid them. People as such may seem like great advocates but still
represent part of the problem , these people are in a way hypocrites since they are doing the exact
opposite of what they are trying to support others to do. It may come to mind what is the harm since
they are doing good in some form but the fact is they are still propagating acting in a negative way
against the groups. They are in the end just preaching for people to look tolerant on the outside and
secretly still hold prejudice even if they do not openly say it , it is just presenting a different form of
racism.

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Veldt
The Veldt Excessive attachment to technology can be dangerous to families and cause destruction.
Ray Bradbury, the author of the short story The Veldt , has been described as a mainstream fantasist of
great brilliance by Richard Wollheim. Lydia and George have raised two children, Peter and Wendy, in
an electronic house where they can have everything they ever wanted. Everything is done for them,
replacing the need for real parents. However, there is one exceptional room that the children have
become excessively attached to. This room is known as the nursery, a high tech room that converts
into whatever the human mind can conjure up. The children s unhealthy attachment to this room leads

A quote from The Veldt is He showed it to her. The smell of hot grass was on it and the smell of a lion.
There were drops of saliva on it, it had been chewed, and there were blood smears on both sides
(Bradbury). Within the story, Bradbury uses foreshadowing shown through George s wallet found on
the nursery ground. This wallet had been chewed and smeared with blood, foreshadowing that soon,
George would face his death. A quote from another source is, Bradbury uses this technique to hint at
the fate of George and Lydia Hadley. While the two are lying in bed, they hear screams coming from
the nursery, and Lydia comments, Those screams they sound familiar. Later, the reader realizes that
the screams sound familiar to Lydia because they are actually her screams and those of her husband
(Ira Mark Milne). Another example of foreshadowing are the screams George and Lydia hear
throughout the story. The screams are a result of Wendy and Peter conjuring up the death of their
parents with their minds in the nursery. This ties to the theme because foreshadowing connects to the
idea that technology takes reign in the lives of children. One last quote is, He bent and picked up a
bloody scarf. This yours? (Bradbury). Once again, George discovers a sign of death within the
nursery. The scarf gives an insight into the children s minds, which are filled with dark thoughts. It
foreshadows death once again, however, this time the personal item belongs to Lydia, foreshadowing

V2 Rocket
The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German. There
have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing how it was built
during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on the U.S. and their
aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the V2, one of those factors
was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the human race, the Aryan race;
thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of the V2, a long range ballistic
missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to bombard England but was delayed until
1944 which at this point England had already been bombarded for over four years by conventional
artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor that played into the development of the V2 was the
recession that afflicted Germany prior to the World War. The recession was one of the major reasons
that led to the rise of Nazi party in Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if
Germany did not experience a recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop

  • 2. Raising Drinking Or The Sale Of Alcohol Organized efforts to control and limit drinking or the sale of alcohol have been persistent in the United States since the early nineteenth century. For many years, before any public demonstration was made against the liquor traffic, and for some years after, distilleries by many people were deemed a blessing to the community. They provided a ready market for any surplus grain that was raised. The business was considered respectable; and members of churches, and even deacons engaged in it without any detriment to their moral character or standing in society. But, after a few years of temperance work, it dawned upon the minds of some that these distilleries were a source of evil rather than good, for they were sowing the seeds of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In America, it is a rite of passage to turn 21, and be legally allowed to consume and purchase alcohol. It has been established beyond question that a majority of American adults, even teenagers for that matter, drink alcoholic beverages at least upon occasion. Alcohol s meanings change as individuals go through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol can change accordingly. Alcohol s meanings change as individuals go through different stages of life, as societies norms about alcohol can change accordingly. Drinking can be a sign of rebellion or independence during adolescence. Moreover, in many societies it is inappropriate for elderly to engage in intoxicated partying that might be more accepted among the young. However, as individuals in industrialized countries like America live longer and healthier lives, these contradictory cultural views about the respectability of drinking may need to be re examined from a historical lens. More specific elements of America s drinking culture are examined within the intellectual history paradigm, yet the discussion is mostly of historical contributions. On a personal level, alcohol has cultivated bonds of friendship and community based on the similarity of livelihoods, national heritages, and neighborhoods. • 3. High School Should Not Be Legal What is the most common reason why high school would go to college? My old friend Sean Kisch is going to graduate with a major in music. His eldest sister will be done with her degree in modern dance this semester. Looking at myself, I am not that far along. I attempted to navigate around college because it was seen as too expensive. The mountain of debt for going to a private Christian college is to grate to pay off. Most people are not made out of money. The money may not be the case because an alternative does exist, it just is not as glorious. A person can obtain an associate s degree at a community college for considerably less. Which is the choice I have made. I remember watching part of my brothers Dave Ramsey financial piece university video. It stated that most high school teens have the expectation of making mountains of cash. Most expected after college, they would make around one hundred thousand dollars or more. That figure is much lower, an entry level position with a college degree is between thirty and thirty five thousand. If you survive the odds of finishing school, there is still the mammoth task of finding a job. The majority of student who graduate do not have any not enough experience to enter most jobs. My friend Sean is going to Seedarville Univercity in Ohio, he will have around forty to eighty thousand dollars of debt unless his parents are paying for it. My own parent told me they would not pay for my school, because my parent not not make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Starsha North: I brought it for self defense Trent Topper: My final question for you Miss North is why did you not contact police when your dogs went missing and when or if you were called about the ransom? • 5. The History Of Geographic Information Systems ( Gis ) Introduction: Recent research on interpolation of climatological and meteorological information with the support of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has shown that interpolation has a large development potential within climatology and meteorology. At the same time the demand for interpolated data products are increasing, numerical weather models are working at higher spatial resolutions and may be initiated by gridded data from observations. Interpolation is a method of getting new data from some known data points. In India, many weather data is from official departments and there are many weather sites, but in some areas it is difficult to obtain weather data, so we will use interpolation methods to get climate data of that areas. Interpolation can be defined as the estimation of an unknown value of the variable, at some point where no measurement is available, where the estimate is made using known measurements obtained at a set of sample locations. With the advent of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), numerous spatial interpolation methods have been applied to create continuous surfaces of climate variables at various spatial (watershed, regional, and global) and temporal (hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual) scales. The prediction of weather condition is essential for various applications. Like weather prediction, soil moisture, climate data monitoring, rainfall, population prediction, agriculture, image processing etc. Regression model, Feed Forward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The commission of human rights urges states to restrict the number of death penalties happening per year. Every year there should be a decreasing amount of executions. This would lead to the abolishing of the death penalty. They urge all states that still hold the death penalty not to execute a person as long as any related legal procedure, at international or national level. Lastly they try not to allow the executions of the mentally ill to happen (Richard International 3). There are five ways to execute a person. The five are: lethal gas, lethal injection, electrocution, hanging, and firing squad. The most commonly used are lethal injection and electrocution. Lethal injection is when the people inject a shot into both of your arms. It takes about three minutes until the acid kills you. Firing squad is when a group of people has guns and the shoot at the murderers chest. The electric chair is when the chair gives off 2300 volts for about ten seconds. Through Chapter Three she speculates about the reason of her father s death after first knowing the catastrophe. By applying the allusion between writer Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald s famous character Jay Gatsby, and her father, Bechdel effectively presents the tragic nature of her father that he lives in the fictional world created by himself. In this allusion, Bechdel first describes her father s reverence for Fitzgerald, highlighting the deep influence of Fitzgerald on her father that he was fascinated by Fitzgerald s lifestyle and sentiment. She then shifts the parallel between her father and Fitzgerlad to her father and Fitzgerald s renowned character Gatsby. Later Bechdel realized that these three people all died at the same age, month, and week, and began wondering that her father s death is a suicide caused by his own personality. When Bechdel presents how her late father and Fitzgerald s character Gatsby are similar, she writes that: Gatsby s self willed metamorphosis from farm boy to prince is in many ways identical to my father (63). • 21. The Capote Character Analysis Although Capote appears to be providing information and accounts on the town after the murders, his true purpose is to illuminate the corruption permeating Holcomb; thus asserting that all places that are innocent and serene are not immune from wicked influence. Capote, as though taking his own finger and running it down the reader s spine, creates an eerie and shiver inducing air around Holcomb using juxtaposition. The Clutter s new appearances, posthumously formed, are described: Nancy wore her dress of cherry red velvet, her brother a bright plaid shirt; the parents were more sedately attired... and and it was this, especially, that lent the scene an awful aura the head of each was completely encased in cotton, a swollen cocoon twice the size or an ordinary blown up balloon, and the cotton, because it had been sprayed with a glossy substance, twinkled like Christmas tree snow (Capote 95). A jarring and nauseous feeling accompanies this excerpt, as the town s most revered inhabitants are degraded down to faceless shells, inert, Q tip shaped reminders of loss and evil. The innocence of Bonnie, the dependability of Herb, and the intelligence of Nancy and Kenyon have been negatively replaced, and therefore the true identities of the Clutters are forever lost. As the Clutters were the viewed as the most upstanding citizens of Holcomb, the hurt felt by the remainder of the town is not just over the family, but of the purity that Holcomb will never reattain. What was once the Clutter family, and thus Holcomb itself, is forever gone, replaced by malicious, shimmering cotton. Capote further presses the loss of innocence and gain of corruption through symbolism, witnessed during the time in which men from the community set fire to the blood stained and destroyed Clutter property. Unfolding in the line, [t]he couch, a relic that Kenyon had rescued and mended and that Nancy had slip covered and piled with mottowed pillows, was a blood splashed ruin...it would have to be burned.. Strictly speaking, it is not a vitamin, since it is produced in small amounts within the body, whereas vitamins are substances that are not synthesized in the body. However, in 1998, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recognized it as a nutrient that must be obtained from the diet to maintain health. Most of the choline found in the body is contained in fat molecules called phospholipids, most of which are called lecitihin or phosphatidylcholine. These molecules are important as structural components of cell membranes. Choline is also a precursor (a compound that reacts with another compound to form another substance) for acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in memory, muscle control, and other functions. • 31. Questions On Margin Of Error What is margin of error? Margin of error is a common summary of sampling error that quantifies uncertainty about survey results. Three pieces of data are needed to express the confidence interval, : statistic, confidence level, and margin of error. Confidence Interval is usually stated in the following format: 95 percent confidence intervals, or accurate 19/20 times with a margin of error of +/ 5%. This means that 19 out of 20 times it is expected that the mean of the survey result (stats) will fall within 5% above or below the true value. There are strict parameters that determines on which survey results a Margin of Error disclaimer can included. MRIA sets the guidelines for reporting research in Appendix D MRIA Revised ... • 32. The Reception And Influence Of Rebecca Harding Davis Among the multitudes of upper class women in the nineteenth century, struggling with their own problems, few felt the need to speak out for others, especially the lower classes. However, Rebecca Harding Davis observed the suffering of all humanity and decided to give everyone a voice through her writings. Throughout her career, Davis wrote an innumerable amount of works advocating for equal rights among all people, right up until her death in 1910. The following paper will analyze and discuss the reception and influence that Rebecca Harding Davis s works of literary realism had on the hierarchy of society, in relation to class, from the nineteenth century to the present. Furthermore, Davis s own personal experiences will also be discussed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beyond her parents, Davis was also influenced by many notable authors who showed her that everyday life and people could actually be depicted in literature. Among these notable authors, Davis particularly favored Nathaniel Hawthorne s Twice Told Tales, and the stories within this collection shocked Davis at their boldness. One of these short stories within Hawthorne s collection in particular, entitled The Ambitious Guest, was fascinating to Davis because of the horrifying ending in which everyone dies. This ending completely went against what Davis had been exposed to growing up in a society coddled by Romanticism, and she enjoyed the change. Together, these influences created a pioneer for a crucial development in literature: the transition from Romanticism to Realism. Beginning in 1830, which is, ironically, the year Davis was born, a new literature movement called Romanticism began. This movement was characterized by stories laden with sentimentality and focused on the individual. One notable example of a romanticized story would be Sir Walter Scott s Ivanhoe, in which Ivanhoe falls madly in love with Rowena and does everything in his power to win her over. This story was one of the many that Davis was exposed to growing up, and she quickly came to reject the ideals of Romanticism. Davis saw these works of literature as egotistical and melodramatic, and while she enjoyed good stories, she determined that they could not make any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Oddi Banding Essay Oddi Banding Weight Loss Procedure Morbidly obese patients have recently been introduced to a rapid weight loss procedure called Oddi Banding. The procedure is comparable to gastric banding in that it works by attaching a small plastic band around the sphincter of Oddi (SO), compressing the outer wall. The SO has many different important purposes that are adversely affected by this procedure. Some of these side effects include: anemia, elevated white blood cell count, abnormal discomfort after eating, scaring of the Sphincter of Oddi, damage to organs and even death. All of these elements will be explained below in further detail. (CQUniversity, 2015) What is the sphincter of Oddi? Solid casings that contain pain fibers encapsulate organs such as the liver and gallbladder. The swelling and stretching of these organs stimulate these fibers to produce abdominal pain. (Kathryn L. McCance, 2014) As outlined earlier the blockage of the Sphincter of Oddi will cause all of this bile to be forced back up the common bile duct and into the gallbladder. The amount of fluid produced in a day far outweighs the capacity of the gallbladder causing it to become distended. This distention activates the pain fibers causing abdominal discomfort, especially during large meals. The same mechanism is found when the pancreas secretes pancreatic enzymes. The enzymes become stuck at the SO and are required to travel back up the main pancreatic duct into the pancreas; this causes pain and discomfort due to the distention of the ... • 34. The Citizen Architect Is Not Driven By The Financial Gain... Cesal argues that the citizen architect should be concerned with their role within the community and how to better serve the people that comprise it. A true citizen architect is not driven by the financial gain of the projects themselves or the social status attributed to them. Instead the architect should re evaluate their role as a true servant of the public and implement that sense of purpose to drive their craft rather than just the desire for social status. Cesal desires for architects to go beyond their professional title and actively seek out ways to better their environment by bridging the gap between architects and their communities. He is asking architects to take responsibility in their communities and not merely pass the problems on to other public servants. There is a need for architects and politics to coexist to on equal grounds within projects to ultimately decipher what is best for the communal area. Cesal argues that with these complications skyrocketing within the past years and consistently increasing, architects should have considered this an issue long ago. Although we cannot turn back the clock, we are able to control what happens today and the day that are to come. One of the most important pieces of insight that Cesal exposes to his audience is that architects need to embrace this notion in all matters of their professional life to truly reap the societal benefits from it. Only then can we begin to deconstruct and revaluate the role of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This falls more in between those line with this being an example of averise racism specifically Aversive racists, in contrast, sympathize with victims of past injustice, support principles of racial equality, and genuinely regard themselves as non prejudiced, but at the same time possess conflicting, often non conscious, negative feelings and beliefs about Blacks that are rooted in basic psychological processes that promote racial bias. People as such may seem like great advocates but still represent part of the problem , these people are in a way hypocrites since they are doing the exact opposite of what they are trying to support others to do. It may come to mind what is the harm since they are doing good in some form but the fact is they are still propagating acting in a negative way against the groups. Ray Bradbury, the author of the short story The Veldt , has been described as a mainstream fantasist of great brilliance by Richard Wollheim. Lydia and George have raised two children, Peter and Wendy, in an electronic house where they can have everything they ever wanted. Everything is done for them, replacing the need for real parents. The smell of hot grass was on it and the smell of a lion. There were drops of saliva on it, it had been chewed, and there were blood smears on both sides (Bradbury). Within the story, Bradbury uses foreshadowing shown through George s wallet found on the nursery ground. This wallet had been chewed and smeared with blood, foreshadowing that soon, George would face his death. A quote from another source is, Bradbury uses this technique to hint at the fate of George and Lydia Hadley. While the two are lying in bed, they hear screams coming from the nursery, and Lydia comments, Those screams they sound familiar. Later, the reader realizes that the screams sound familiar to Lydia because they are actually her screams and those of her husband (Ira Mark Milne). Another example of foreshadowing are the screams George and Lydia hear throughout the story. The screams are a result of Wendy and Peter conjuring up the death of their parents with their minds in the nursery. This ties to the theme because foreshadowing connects to the idea that technology takes reign in the lives of children. One last quote is, He bent and picked up a bloody scarf. This yours? (Bradbury). Once again, George discovers a sign of death within the nursery. The scarf gives an insight into the children s minds, which are filled with dark thoughts. It foreshadows death once again, however, this time the personal item belongs to Lydia, foreshadowing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
