Essay Check
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Check" can be a challenging task, as it involves a certain
level of self-reflection and critical evaluation of one's own writing abilities. The difficulty lies in
objectively assessing one's strengths and weaknesses as a writer, identifying areas that need
improvement, and formulating constructive strategies for enhancement.
The process begins with a thorough examination of past writing experiences, analyzing feedback
received from peers or instructors, and acknowledging personal writing habits. This self-
awareness can be a daunting task, as it requires an honest appraisal of one's own work.
Additionally, it involves the challenge of translating these observations into coherent and well-
structured sentences that convey the nuances of self-evaluation.
Moreover, addressing the nuances of essay writing itself adds another layer of complexity.
Discussing elements such as thesis development, argumentation, organization, clarity, and
grammar necessitates a deep understanding of the intricacies of effective writing. It also requires
the ability to express these concepts in a clear and concise manner, further testing the writer's
communication skills.
Furthermore, delving into the realm of self-improvement presents the challenge of setting
realistic and achievable goals. Identifying specific areas for enhancement and outlining
actionable steps to address them requires strategic thinking and goal-setting skills. Balancing the
desire for improvement with a realistic assessment of time constraints and other commitments
can add to the complexity of the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Check" demands a combination of
introspection, critical analysis, and effective communication. It requires a writer to navigate the
intricacies of self-assessment and improvement, all while maintaining clarity and coherence in
their writing. This task can be both intellectually stimulating and emotionally challenging, as it

Advantages Of Organizational Structure
Every structure should be built to support its work load This statement supports the
use of the organizational chart within the work place, can you begin to imagine the
confusion that would exist without it? In a company organizing, is to arrange or to
position resources strategically in order to achieve goals. It is imperative for a
company to function efficiently, under the use of an organizational structure. An
organizational structure provides balance in the work environment and monitors the
workflow of all employees. It also provides growth in the organization, in terms of
new employment and other major achievements. A company that exist without

In a centralized organizational structure one individual is responsible for making all
the decisions and maintains control of the company by giving direction. While
Decentralized organizational structures often rely on several persons with the
authority to make final decision for the company s well being. Some benefits
associated with a centralized organization are as follows: Reduction in cost in the
work environment, having a focused vision on one common goal and Reduction in
conflict. A Few drawbacks of a centralized organization include, No secrecy because
all ideas and decisions are conveyed to all, No special attention and Delay in work.
Advantages associated with Decentralization are; Huge relief is provided off the top
managers, Greater use is made of employees skills and Decision making is left up to
educational and well informed people.
The structures of governance now in place represent the old order. In essence, the

Babylonian Captivity
It is no surprise that Christians unschooled in the history of the development of the
Christianity s Bible based beliefs and teachings, and with the beliefs of the Early
Church Fathers (such as are found in Pelikan s excellent four volume work), do not
grasp the Faith once delivered to the saints, but insist upon non biblical documents
that are not at all points in agreement with the information written under divine
inspiration as found in the books of the Holy Bible.
When the Babylonian Captivity of the Jews ended after seventy years, the majority of
returnees to Palestine could not speak Hebrew. They spoke Aramaic, the language of
Babylon, having either forgotten their native tongue, the aged, or never having
learned it, the middle aged
Examples Of Regression In Jane Eyre
Does Bella Swan represent progress or regression in the portrayal of female
empowerment compared to Jane Eyre? History is the base and foundation that is
set to make a brighter and better future. The future is developed through mistakes
and faults that have been made right, as human beings are learning creatures that
require the process of constant trial and error. Yet in the world of fiction and
literature, this has not been the case. Two immensely well known, famous and
loved novel from their respective generations, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and
the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, has been set as the representative case of the
regression in the portrayal of female empowerment over time. The book Jane Eyre
was published in 1847 as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a feminist, Jane is able to protect herself when she is in a situation where she
needs to be defended. For instance, when her brutish older cousin John hurls a
hardcover book at her head, she pounces back by attacking him in defense. She
also faces no difficulty in successfully defeating her cold hearted aunt in a verbal
fight, just at the tender age of ten. Jane is surely unafraid of the consequences that
she has to face on actions that she believes as rightfully done. This amazing trait
remains even as she proceeds into adulthood and meets the love of her life. She is
able to deal with, and even stand up to Mr. Rochester s unreasonable verbal attacks
directed at her. She clearly shows her dauntless side of her personality, by speaking
her own mind when Mr. Rochester demands for the money that he had given her.
Jane refuses clear cut, and Mr. Rochester asks to then at least let him see the cash.
Jane refuses again by retorting that he is not to be trusted. Jane has an honest and
truthful soul who knows how to speak for herself, unlike many women during this
period of time. Jane is never concerned about what other people would think of her
if she tells them the exact truth about everything. She is able to inform her
departure by cancelling off the wedding between herself and Mr. Rochester after
what she had witnessed and experienced. Jane cries out you are a married man or
as good as a married man, and wed to one inferior to you to one with whom you
have no sympathy whom I do not believe you truly love; for I have seen and heard
you sneer at her. I would scorn such a union: therefore I am better than you let me
go! Jane is able to truthfully utter her thoughts, her true opinion without being
afraid; even if it was to someone she dearly loved. When Mr. Rochester angrily
cries out, Jane, be still; don t struggle so, like a wild frantic bird that is rending its
own plumage in its

Queen Elizabeth I: One of the Greatest Monarchs in English History There have been
many influential monarchs in English history, but one that stands out is Queen
Elizabeth I. Throughout her legendary reign, Queen Elizabeth managed to have a
positive effect on England s political and cultural state during this time. Her reign
featured many political accomplishments, but the one that stands out the most is the
defeat of the Spanish Armada. Considered as one of her finest hours, the defeat of
the Spanish Armada has gone down in history as one of the greatest English
victories at sea. Queen Elizabeth s decisions played a positive role in the economic
development in England. Not only did she obtain a positive political impact, but also
an impressive cultural impact in English history. Her decisions ... Show more content

Queen Elizabeth recognized the importance of the arts to the life and legacy of her
nation. Very fond of plays, Queen Elizabeth permitted professional theaters to be
built in England for the first time. These new and improved theaters attracted 15,000
theatergoers per week in London. (Arts). In addition to Shakespeare s masterpieces
of the stage like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, Sir Philip Sidney s Defence of Poesie
was written during this golden age in the literary arts (Arts). Queen Elizabeth
managed to capture the imagination of influential poets such as Edmund Spenser and
Sir Walter Ralegh (Moose). The Shakespearean sonnet, Spenserian stanza, and
dramatic blank verse also came into practice during the period. Queen Elizabeth s
appreciation for theatre led to the introduction of many new theatres and famous
playwrights that promoted English culture (Arts). In conclusion, Queen Elizabeth s

Document Based Question Nearly all of the reasons for agrarian discontent in the late
19th century stem from three areas: land, transportation, and money. The farmers
were fighting the perceived threats posed by monopolies and trusts, railroads, and the
demonetization of silver. The American farmer during this period already had his fair
share of problems which, compared to the success of the industrialized businessmen,
resulted in much of the animosity between the two groups. The fact of the matter was
farmers had entered a viscous cycle. Wheat and cotton, once the staples of American
agriculture were selling at such low prices that it was almost impossible... Show more

As crop prices fell, farmers were forced to mortgage their lands and take out loans
in order to grow more and more crop just to break even. When these tactics were
ultimately unsuccessful, the banks closed in and quickly foreclosed on the
farmers estates. These mass foreclosures led to a belief among farmers that they
were all slaves to their eastern masters and that only the freedom of unlimited
silver would release them from their shackles. One can see the argument from the
farmer s side. The banks gave out loans with exorbitant interest rates simply
because they could. From 1865 to 1895, the population had risen by close to eighty
percent whereas the amount of currency in circulation had only gone up by about
sixty percent. With this deflation, the farmers were paying back double and triple
the amount of money that they had originally borrowed. With free coinage of
silver, these loans would be balanced and the farmers could suddenly afford their
mortgages. This argument for silver was made famous by William Jennings Bryan s
Cross of Gold speech at the democratic nomination convention. Bryan would not rest
until the Crime of 1873 was rectified. McKinley however shows the counter
argument towards this radical inflation. Coining silver would be a temporary stay of
execution for the farmers. It would not make farming any more profitable, but would
only cheat the banks out of money that the farmers had agreed to pay them. The
farmers were
The Greater Good Is All That Matters
I believe the world would be a better place if people could go back and change their
past mistakes to the choice that was overall best. I think that this point of view is
the most ethical. Ethics is all about doing the right thing and I believe if you could
make the past better, its overall worth it and using utilitarianism ideas I agree with
the statement the greater good is all that matters If you have to do something
mildly unethical to prevent something very unethical, I believe it is overall worth
it in the long run. Every person no matter who you are you will always have
decisions in life they don t know if it s the right thing to do, wouldn t it be better if
you didn t have to think about it and just automatically know what the better choice
is? Remember all those times you have regretted not going to something and
missing out or going to something and getting in trouble or having a bad time and
wishing you had done the other choice? As Jeremy Bentham once said, Nature has
placed mankind under the government of two sovereign masters, pain and
pleasure... they govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we

would want to do the better thing all the time even if changes who I am, I would
rather not do the things that would embarrass me or get me in trouble. The end
may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end. is what
Leon Trotsky said in his book Their Morals and Ours, in this quote I believe he is
saying how it s okay to do something unethical as long as the outcome is for the
greater good and I agree. Overall changing something you you have done is more
ethical than not changing it and have yourself doing something unethical as
The Soviet Union During The Cold War
After World War II, the world was in a state of heightened suspicion that was lead
by ideological differences. There were two main superpowers that shaped
perceptions of the rest of the world. One was the United States, who had come out
of the war fairly unscathed, which was due to little to no conflict directly on its
soil, in addition to the possession of atomic weapons and a strong navy and air
force. The other major player was the Soviet Union, whose industry was recovered
during the first few years of the war in addition to a powerful army. These
superpowers had a large impact on other countries due to their ideological differences:
the United States favored a capitalistic democracy while the Soviet Union believed in
communism. One country that was heavily influenced by both superpowers at the
same time was Korea, which was ultimately split into two halves. The United States
had a heavy impact on the south while the Soviet Union had an effect on the north.
During the Cold Warfrom the late 1940s to the early 1950s, The Soviet Union and
the United States wanted to set up spheres of influence in foreign countries so that
they could observe what the other was doing, which ultimately lead to the
exploitation of North and South Korea. One way to show that the Soviet Union took
advantage of North Koreais through the example of the Prime Minister of the
Democratic People s Republic of Korea, Kim Il Sung, attempting to convey that he
will always be an ally of the Soviet
The Dynamite
During the industrial revolution, many amazing inventions arose and because of
them the world changed. Some of these inventions affected the world in a positive
way and solved many problems. Yet other inventions were the cause of misery to the
entire human kind. What about an invention that caused both joy and misery? It s an
invention that affects our world until this day. This invention is the Dynamite. Let me
first introduce you to the inventor of the dynamite. The dynamite was invented by
Swedish scientist Alfred Nobelin 1866. Let me now tell you how this dynamite
affected the industrial era. It was created so it can be used in construction, mining
and demolition. It was used to carve in the mountains in order to create railroads and

If you would compare the number of deaths in war before and after the dynamite, you
would be amazed. People then were sure that the country that had the dynamite was
probably going to be the strongest. European countries started competing in creating
the dynamite and started selling it world wide. You might say that this was a positive
impact but because people at that time didn t quite understand the dynamite that this
trade usually ended in death. Because shipping dynamite at that time wasn t safe,
many catastrophes happened. For example, a shipment route to California blew up in
Panama, killing 60 and causing a half million dollars in damage. Nobel s own
dynamite factory in Hamburg, Germany, blew up leaving nothing but a shattered
foundation and killing his brother. Later in WW1 the dynamite became one of the
popular weapons in used. Because of this dynamite, thousands lost their lives,
thousands lost their homes and millions lost their loved ones. It turned Earth into a
living hell. You might say that there were other weapons used but the creation of the
dynamite affected people psychologically. They started seeing an invention that can
shatter a whole building in seconds which led to the rising of aggression inside
people. All these negative effects and we still didn t talk about the environment. The
dynamite caused many negative impacts on the environment and the health of people.
It first starts with pollution and ends up with
Qing Dao Short Story
Once upon a time, a kind old fisherman lived with his daughter on an island. One
day, the Dragon King kidnapped the daughter and brought her to his palace. The
poor fisherman stood by the ocean calling out to the sea day by day, for years. It
made the Dragon King angry so he cast a spell on him causing the man to slowly
turn into a rock. After the daughter heard what the Dragon King had done, she
escaped the palace and ran towards her father who has now turned into a rock. The
ocean breeze blew the flowers in her hair onto the island, making plants grow.
When she is near Lao mountain, the Dragon King put a spell on her too and turned
her into a giant reef. From that day on, the father and daughter can only look at
each other from across the sea, unable to meet. This is the story of Old Man Rock,
one of the unique and beautiful sites in Qing Dao. On the east side of Chinais a small
peninsula called Qing Dao. Qing Dao is a beautiful place to live in because it has
wonderful beaches, an Under Sea World aquarium, and possesses many parks.
First of all, Qing Dao has wonderful beaches. The sand on the beaches glitter under
the sun making it look golden and is very soft. People take wedding photos there
because the scenery is very beautiful and some people ride on horses. The weather is
mild which means that it isn t hot in the summer and cold in winter. When walking
deeper into the ocean, there are corals of orange, red, yellow, and green. Also, there

Interrupt Vs. Asynchronous Communication
Operating System| Assignment #1| | Information System| 2012 03 29| |
1. What is the purpose of interrupts? What are the differences between a trap and an
interrupt? Can traps be generated intentionally by a user program? If so, for what
purpose? (Chapter 1)
Interrupt is that causes a computer processor to temporarily stop executing its current
program and execute another program instead, finally returning control to the original
program. So it prevent that more important task goes back because of less important
task.
The main difference between a trap and an interrupt is where they are generated. An

п‚•a) Synchronous and asynchronous communication
п‚•b) Automatic and explicit buffering
a) Synchronous vs asynchronous can be called to blocking vs non blocking
communication. The benefit of synchronous communication is the simplicity and
accuracy. However blocking may not be necessary and waste time. Asynchronous
communication allows messages to be delivered without waiting. However this
communication has less reliability than blocking one. b) Automatic buffering
provides a queue with in definite length; thus ensuring the sender will never have
to block while waiting to copy a message. There are no specifications how
automatic buffering will be provided; one scheme may reserve sufficiently large
memory where much of the memory is wasted. Explicit buffering specifies how
large the buffer is. In this situation, the sender may be blocked while waiting for
available space in the queue. However, it is less likely memory will be wasted with
explicit buffering.
7. Describe the differences among short term, medium term, and long term
scheduling.

Black History Importance Essay
Black History Importance The time has come again to celebrate the achievements of
all black men and women who have chipped in to form the Black society. There are
television programs about the African Queens and Kings who never set sail for
America, but are acknowledged as the pillars of our identity. In addition, our black
school children finally get to hear about the history of their ancestors instead of
hearing about Columbus and the founding of America. The great founding of
America briefly includes the slavery period and the Antebellum south, but readily
excludes both black men and women, such as George Washington Carver, Langston
Hughes, and Mary Bethune. These men and women have contributed greatly to

Black Americans should be acknowledged for not only their contributions to
American society, but also for being a part of American society and upholding the
traditions and values of this country. Black History Month should not be a
celebration that comes and goes in our own minds and homes. Black History
Month should not be a remembrance that is acknowledged only when the official
day begins. Black History Month is an accomplishment that we should be proud of
in the Black community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for
some important reasons. For instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of
two men who influenced the black population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham
Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed
on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. There were a lot of
significant reasons for allowing Black History Week to begin in February.
However, I seriously doubt if Woodson would have accepted the extension of this
week in the shortest month of the year. Woodson chose a week in February,
because it had symbolic significance. Black History Week began in 1926. However,
it is now 1999 and in seventy three years Black Americans allowed our contributions
to American society to be extended from Negro History Week to Black History
“How Can Modern Behavioural Therapies Help a Client
Accept...
Abstract: How can modern behavioural therapies help a client accept uncertainty
about their future?
Introduction: I will demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding focusing on
REBT and CT, combining them to produce a fluid response to answer the question.
Background: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a generic umbrella term for a
category of therapy approach that focus on the relationship between thoughts,
feelings, and actions. There are many different types of CBT. Rational Emotive
Behaviour Therapy (Ellis s REBT) and Cognitive Therapy (Beck s CT) are the two
main types. Current CBT practice originated in the 50s and 60s with Ellis, Lazarus
(MultiModal Therapy) and Beck, building upon the ... Show more content on

CT focuses on the inferences clients draw about certain events. For example, if a
partner leaves the relationship for another person clients may tell themselves, I ll
never find someone to love me. This prediction may lead to feeling depressed and
avoiding opportunities to find another partner. A cognitive therapist will help clients
to realize that they have no way to predict the future and get them to rethink their
inference. When they stop making negative predictions about the future, they are
more likely to develop realistic problem solving methods.
Accepting uncertainty: REBT differs from most of the other CBTs by focusing on
the clients evaluation of events. Very often, when we evaluate negative events, our
evaluations are rigid and extreme. These rigid and extreme evaluations lead to
emotional disturbance and self defeating behavior. When we modify our rigid and
extreme beliefs, our emotional responses are healthier and our actions, particularly to
problems are more efficient. For example, if a client failed an important exam.
According to Ellis, clients may evaluate the situation as awful and tend to make
themselves depressed. REBT encourages clients to reconsider this evaluation and to
conclude that failing the exam is probably not the end of the world.
Nineteen Eighty-Four Examples Of Totalitarianism
Power often corrupts the beholder and eventually leads to the destruction of a society
and its people. Totalitarianism appears as a prime example for this situation. In
George Orwell s novel, Nineteen Eighty Four, he discusses the effects and issues of
totalitarianism in society. Although the idea appears beneficial at the time, the
outcome proves detrimental. Through the understanding of totalitarianism, Orwell s
allusions to a corrupt government system similar to Nazi Germany and communist
Russia, and his views of a totalitarian government compared to the modern American
society, the reader comprehends why Orwell expresses such disdain towards a
government with complete and total control over their people. In Nineteen Eighty
Four, Orwell... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The First Amendment protects freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and
petition (Bill of Rights 1). In the novel, a person possesses no freedoms and
everyone acts the same. If a person acts out or even thinks ill about the party, the
secret police knock at the door to haul that individual off. An example of the lack of
this amendment appears in the novel. [Goldstein] was advocating freedom of speech,
freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought (Orwell 14).
Goldstein, a character in Nineteen Eighty Four, wanted each of the freedoms, which,
coincidently, appear in the amendments. The second amendment prevalent
throughout the novel becomes the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits the searching
of an individual s belongings and arresting that individual without a warrant (Bill of
Rights 2). This seems impossible within the novel since the Thought Police storm
and rampage through an individual s stuff with the only reason of suspicion. In
modern America, police obtain no right to go through a person s belonging without
a warrant, but in the book it states, it was the Police Patrol, snooping into peoples
windows (Orwell 6). This idea remains impossible in today s terms because it
obstructs the Fourth Amendment. Finally, the last amendment present in Nineteen
Eighty Four arises as the Sixth Amendment. This amendment says that all people
have the right to a speedy and fair trial (Bill of Rights 2). In Nineteen Eighty Four,
trials are nonexistent and criminals simply vanish. For example, In the vast majority
of cases there was no trial, no report of the arrest. People simply disappeared, always
during the night (Orwell 20). Compared to the United States, the concept seems
dumbfounding. A case without a trial in today s society seems foreign. This becomes
the reasoning for why Nineteen
A Brief Note On The Air Temperature Inversion
1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night?
Why? The air temperature inversion is more likely to occur on a calm night
versus a windy night. The inversion will happen when the air, closest to the earth is
a lot colder than the air higher in the atmosphere. Wind will naturally mix and
causing the temperature preventing an inversion. Temperature inversion may
happen during a cold front moving through. 2. What are the various methods used
to protect sensitive crops from damaging low temperatures? Explain why each
method works. Fruit trees can be very vulnerable for farmers (Ahrens 65). Many
ways a farmer can protect their crops as they are blossoming during low
temperatures is by using orchard heaters or Smudge pots. Smudge pot warm the air
around the trees close to the ground producing heat to raise the temperatures.
Another way that farmer protects their crops to warm the ground. They way the
ground is warmed is through a devices such as a wind machine (Ahrens 65). A
wind machine is a fan, which emulates propellers. One of the advantages that the
wind machines provide is that they turn on and off as they reach certain
temperatures. The basic way to protect crops is by covering them. On a cold night
to protect small plants of shrubs covering them with straw, cloth, or plastic sheeting
will prevent ground heat from being radiated away (Ahrens 65). 3. Would a strong
radiation inversion be more likely to form on a winter night or a

the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) fought against the American
Supported Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). This war ended in 1973 for the
United States and then two years later; South Vietnam surrendered to the north.
Before all this happened and Vietnam was divided into two; it was one country ruled
by the French in 1945. But with the influence of communism from surrounding
countries such as China, that form of government became stronger in Vietnam as
well. The leader/president of Vietnam, declared it an independent country and when
this happened many didn t agree with him and wanted to still be ruled by the
French. So a war between the leader Ho Chi Minh s followers and the French began
in 1946 and lasted for eight years; ending only because the French last a very
important battle. (Citation, YEAR)

The Analysis And Design Phase Of The Sdlc Of A Project
1.Differentiating the Analysis and Design phase of the SDLC of a project, including
various activities of the design stage
The structure and order of activities exercised for the advance of systems, are known
as the System Development Life Cycle . The activities and processes within this
outline are typically executed according to a sound defined and complete sets of
process known as methodologies. These methodologies comprise specific actions for
the requirement analysis as well as the design of mutually the data and development
sections of the arrangement.
We initiate the development of the project through the primary phase or stage of
SDLC which is an analysis of the requirements as well as specification of the
requirements. The next is the design phase, which comprises of the low level and
high level design activities. The further investigates with the database and system
design activities in the complete SDLC process.

Treatment Of Women In Roman Civilization
Roman civilization: Roman civilization was also one of the dominant civilizations.
They also considered women only as a tool of sexual satisfaction. Roman Empire
allowed men to kill their wives, without any hesitation and fear from case of court.
In Roman civilization women were considered only as a machine of soldier s
production . In 7th century, Council of Wise Men gathered at Rome unanimously
agreed that women had no soul. In Roman civilization the only respect for women
were only if she is matron. With the passage of time the tradition of marriage in
Roman s society slowly and gradually became a civil contract from social contract.
Aesthetic norms became their tradition. Flora game was popular among Romans,
in which there is contest among undressed women. Even elite class women
became part of this game, due to which king Tiberius (14 37 BC) passed a law in
order to prevent this culture. Due to these norms the whore culture rooted in Roman

Mozart s First Concerto
In seventeen eighty four, Mozart started to work on this beautiful concerto. On the
seventh day of March in seventeen eighty six, around the same time when Le Nozze

The lovely concerto contains many instruments, including the piano, two clarinets,
the flute, two horns, two bassoons, and string instruments. Heaven only knows for
sure where and when the first concertowas performed. However, on the twelfth day of
January in nineteen thirty, George Stewart McManus performed the marvelous

When the Exposition theme is restated as part of the movement, it is known as the
Recapitulation. In Mozart s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488, the
Recapitulation is when the soloist is accompanied by the orchestra. There are many
similarities between the exposition description and the recapitulation description.
However, there are also quite a few differences. The first theme group in the
exposition lasts from measures one through sixty six, whereas the first theme group
in the recapitulation lasts from measures begins at measure one hundred and ninety
eight, and then ends at two hundred and eighty four. The first theme group of the
exposition has a two bar cadential extension with a sixteen bar double period. Many
wonder how the first theme in the recapitulation is derived from the exposition? That
is because there is and exposition version of the variation that has no extensions. In
the Exposition, the transition lasts from measures eighteen through thirty three. In
the Recapitulation, the transition lasts from two hundred and thirteenth measure to
the two hundred and twenty eighth measure. The second theme of the recapitulation
is derived from the exposition, because the second theme of the exposition has a
thirty one to forty six bar double period, along with a seven bar shortened sentence, a
three bar interpolation, and closing with a four bar phrase. The second theme group
in the recapitulation lasts from measure one hundred to one hundred and
School Board Meeting Summary
The Wilson School District Board of Directors meets on the first and third Monday
of each month to guide the operations of the district through six strategic vision
planks. These planks seek to: improve upon or expand Wilson s portfolio, grow
Wilson regionally and nationally, increase organizational agility and capacity, engage
in creative development of new and existing infrastructure, create a flatter
organizational structure, and control for fiscal accountability. The following is a
summary of the meeting which occurred on September 18, 2017, along with
observations and conclusions from the perspective of a future district administrator.
The meeting was called to order promptly at 7 PM by Board President Steve Ehrlich.

The floor was then ceded to Superintendent, Dr. Richard Faidley, who provided a
detailed account of various personnel changes within the district. This report
included resignations, unpaid leave approval, change in status of current
professional and support staff, new professional and support staff hires, and
extracurricular appointments. Interestingly, the wife of board member
Chmielewski, who currently works as a part time nurse in the district, was
approved as a substitute nurse. This vote was separated from the roll call votes on
all other positions to allow Dr. Chmielewski to abstain. The meeting continued with
board member Jason Hopp presenting Dr. Matthew Flannery, formerly the principal
of Shiloh Hills Elementary School, for a roll call vote to approve him as the new
Assistant Superintendent of the WIlson School District. Mr. Hopp spoke for
approximately two minutes about the credentials, reputation, and record of quality
performance that Dr. Flannery has documented during his time with the district. A
five year contract was approved on an 8 1 vote, with Mr. Martin voting no . It may
be worth observing that Mr. Martin is known as the no man of the current board, and
often tows one of the more conservative lines of all board members. One can

In 1876 the good ship Porpoise sailed into Trinity Bay carrying customs officers
tasked with opening a port and collecting duties from visiting craft. The government
named the new settlement for the then Governor of Queensland, Sir William
Wellington Cairns.
Born in Ireland in 1828, as a younger son Cairns could not expect an inheritance, so
using family connections he joined the British Civil Service, and after training, left
England for work in warmer climes, possibly due to health issues which persisted
throughout his life. In December 1852 he joined the Ceylonese (now Sri Lankan)

Revelation and Rebirth in Helena Viramonte s The Moths ...
Revelation and Rebirth in Helena Viramonte s The Moths
The famous phrase looks may be deceiving strongly pertains to Helena Viramontes s
short story, The Moths. The story, instead of focusing the creatures in the title, is
actually about a young girl who comes of age as she is faced with the deterioration
and death of her grandmother. Even though the title, The Moths, seems to have no
relevance at the beginning, these creatures help to portray a sense of spirituality,
rebirth, and become, finally, an incarnation of the grandmother. The relationship
between the moths and the main characters aids in conveying the main theme of the
story, which is not simply the death of a loved one, but a spiritual and maturing

Before Abuelita dies the author uses the sun to describe rebirths: There comes a
time when the sun is defiant . . . a second when the sun is finally defeated, finally
sinks into the realization that it cannot with all its power to heal or burn exist
forever . . . although endings are inevitable, they are necessary for rebirths (1241).
This description is very precise in the sense of rebirths because the sun dies and then
is reborn every morning. The quote and when that time came [sunset], just when I
switched on the light . . . was probably then that she died (1241) refers back to the
spiritual aspect of the light being heaven, and this is when the doors of heaven first
open for Abuelita. Abuelita?s rebirth is of spiritual nature and is started when the
moths carry her soul through the doors of heaven.
Through the spiritual rebirth of the grandmother, the grandchild experiences a
spiritual and personal rebirth of her own. It is the death of her grandmother which
helps her mature or see the light. Evidence of the grandchild maturing is seen in the
contrast between the beginning when she remarks, I wasn?t respectful either I even
went so far as to doubt the power of Abuelita?s slices (1239) and her respectful
behavior at the end. The regret she feels for the way she acted becomes apparent in
the end when she is toweling her grandmother?s body. Notable evidence of the
grandchild?s change in attitude is
How To Braid Essay
How to blend natural hair with braids
Whenever it becomes necessary to blend braids with your natural hair, the first step is
to ensure that you choose extensions or braiding hair that closely matches your own
texture. Alternately, it is possible to manipulate your own texture to match those of
the extensions, such as doing a braid out or twist out to obtain a texture that would
blend well with curly extensions. If the extensions are straight, it is also possible to
stretch and straighten your natural hair using heat free methods. Ensure that you
consider any blending that might need to be done when considering a braided style to

Summary Of Steven Pinker And The Language Of Instinct

Language and Learning
Individual paper: Steven Pinker and The Language of Instinct
Language is not a cultural artifact that we learn the way we learn to tell time or how
the federal government works. Instead, it is a distinct piece of the biological makeup
of our brains. Language is a complex, specialized skill, which develops in the child
spontaneously, without conscious effort or formal instruction, is deployed without
awareness of its underlying logic, is qualitatively the same in every individual, and is
distinct from more general abilities to process information or behave intelligently. For
these reasons, some cognitive scientists have described language as a psychological
faculty, a mental organ, a neural system, and a computational module. But I prefer the
admittedly quaint term instinct (4 5). In the book, The Language ... Show more

Pinker describes language as a human instinct and discusses the evolution of
language. Pinker, a psychology professor at Harvard University, provides a
thorough description of research he has done with children and animals to prove
how language is created, how it develops throughout life, and how it came to be in
the first place. Much of Pinker s book discusses developments made by Noam
Chomsky, an American linguist, and reproduces these developments in a more clear
and understandable form. Within The Language Instinct, Pinker discusses many
complicated topics like the idea of universal grammar, the separation between
language and thought, the difference between oral language and written language
and the evolution of language as well as
Explain What Caused Turmoil During The Period Of 1770 s
During the era of 1770 s there were a lot of historical events which caused turmoil
and uncertainty amoung the people. The country was comprised of 13 colony s
that were more like separate countries operating under their own set of guidelines
or principles. The Articles of Confederation established in 1781, which granted
power to oversee and control foreign affairs, war, and currency. Congress had
power over certain issues but they did not have the authority to enforce any rules or
have any control over the separate colony s to follow the advice or direction set by
congress. This quickly led the 13 colonies to grow apart and with little to no
guidance. The leaders of each colony showed little to no interest in attending any

What is heavy metal music? In 1985, the parents of John McCollum filed a civil
suit against Ozzy Osborne citing that it was the music and lyrical content of Ozzy s
album that resulted in their son s suicide in 1984. John had been listening to
Osborne s music when he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, killing himself
(Sampar, 2005, p.180). John s parents felt that because Ozzy was their son s idol, he
influenced John to commit suicide through the spoken words of his music. The media
coverage of this event was intense and parents started to take notice. Mass hysteria
ensued with religious groups burning heavy metal records and parental groups taking
their concerns to the highest courts in an attempt to filter the content of the music. It
was the moral panic in the eighties that resulted in the parental advisory label that
began to grace CD covers everywhere (Brown, 2012, p.21). Ultimately, Ozzy ... Show

Environment:
High content of recycled material is one of the positives factors in this category.
Also helpful is when the insulation can be reused or recycled. Ideally the material
should come from a renewable source. All these factors contribute to low embodied
energy, which is the energy used to produce, process and transport the insulation
before it reaches the homeowner. Also the use of hydrocarbons or carbon dioxideas
blowing agents can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. The preferred materials
are the ones that don t require blowing agents at all.

Throughout Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay, Gay shows how nature
controls emotional responses, forces and other higher or more powerful things.
Furthermore, nature brings about unnatural aspects causing greater control of forces
in nature, and outside of the natural realm. Many cycles revolve around nature,
producing a circle, or cycle, of life that changes depending on different things. Even
more, nature can interact with man made things in ways that disrupt it. Gay portrays
nature as a commanding force, something that s located everywhere. Also, it shows

The Holocaust Haunted Irene Gut and Anne Frank
The holocaust had been two pale, waxy fingers from a deathly hand pinching out
lights all over Europe. It affected everyone, from young to old, short or tall. It had
haunted two girls by the name of Irene Gut and Anne Frank, just because they did not
have the luck to be born the supreme race that Hitler thought was most admirable. In
The Diary of Anne Franka young girl named Anne Frank had been forced to hide in
the rooftop room in the father s work building. Anne had suffered through life as
she could not make noise or look outside the window. In the book In My Hands ,
Irene Gut, a young woman, had to make many sacrifices for the things she believed
for after she had been torn away from her family during the holocaust. Thus, Irene
Gut and Anne Frank, two people who lived during the holocaust, had different yet
similar lives because of their personalities, situations, and ages. The individual
personalities of Anne Frank and Irene Gut affected the way they were able to view
the holocaust. During the holocaust, Anne Frank, a young girl hiding in a secret
attic, had a bright and cheery personality. Her personality affected the way she saw
the holocaust. Anne loved her family, so she constantly joked around and tried to
cheer them up, even though it often did not work. People interpreted her bright
personality as a sign that she was childish and needed to be watched. Therefore,
Anne was babied and was taken care of. On the other hand, Irene had a
The Nuclear Predicament
In recent times, the issue of sustainable energy has resurfaced frequently in politics.
The current popular energy sources used today include gasoline, coal, and other fossil
fuels. These fossil fuels pollute the environment and contribute to various harmful
effects. This energy source has sustained not only America, but also the entire world
population for well over a century and has proven to have a very high energy output.
Despite this output, the supply of fossil fuels is finite and becoming a rapidly
depleted source. This is where various alternate energy sources begin to come into
question. Nuclear energy tends to have a negative connotation amongst many general
populations, however it could be the answer to this economic,... Show more content

Only a mere six years later, one of the largest meltdowns in history occurred at
Chernobyl, because the Soviet Union was so caught up in the ends they were not
focused on the means. Unfortunately, greed and time restraints were directly
responsible for the inefficient and unstable production of nuclear energy at
Chernobyl, Ukraine. Now that these meltdowns have occurred in various areas of the
globe, amongst different populations, and with differentiating causality, experts have
been able to closer pinpoint the sources of the meltdowns. Roland Schenkel, of the
European Commission, proposes that new legally binding safety precautions are put
into action with several international peer reviews in areas concerning design safety,
independence competence and functioning of national regulators, and operational
reactor safety (358). This proposal is one that many governments are coming to
terms with and have no problem following through with. Of course, the field of
nuclear energy is still relatively new compared to most other sources, and by far the
most complex method of obtaining energy. The changes in safety and regulation of
these facilities will not happen overnight, but it seems that precautions are taking a
step in the right direction which leads to a hopeful future for nuclear acceptance.
Nuclear energy can fill in the absence of fossil fuels
Bus Rapid Transit Service Design
The third article, Bus Rapid Transit Service Design, by American Public
Transportation Association focuses on fare evasion and smart cards on BRT. The
overall objective of BRT is to enhance transit through travel times that are faster than
traditional fixed route bus service. While seen as a premium service, BRT should not
be implemented at the expense of existing fixed route service, but rather in a way that
complements and enhances other transit services (APTA). With buses coming every
ten to fifteen minutes, fare evasions seems to be the big issue. Busoperators do not
have time to inspect fares because that would delay the service.
In addition, transit agencies are likely to implement a smart card system because it
will minimize and reduce fare evasion. BRT routes operate at a high frequency,
which leads to an increased percentage of riders. The majority of transit agencies
use the proof of verification method, which increases the numbers of fare evaders
because fare inspections do not happen very often. Also, bus operators like to keep
their buses on schedule so it is impossible for them to inspect fares without delaying
the bus. As stated in this article Even with inspectors, some revenue loss due to fare
evasion should be expected with off board payment (approximately 4 to 5 percent)
(APTA). Furthermore, if transit agencies implement smart cards, riders will only
need to tap card reader before boarding the bus allowing fast boarding without
defeating the purpose
Politics Is Fueled By Corruption
Politics is fueled by corruption. It causes government involved citizens to over use
their power into manipulating others to achieve what they want. In All the King s
Men, written by Robert Pen Warren, Warren distributes politics to show how
Willie Stark transformed. His character gradually deteriorates as a person
throughout the political novel leading up to his death. Warren writes to exemplify
politics and how it ruined lives of well rounded people. Warren demonstrates the

Novel, All the King s Men, Willie Stark is slowly, but thoroughly corrupted by
multiple political instances that ultimately lead to his death. Politics has a life of

his home town, Mason City, and he wanted there to be truth in the government. His

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
According to McCracken (1989), a celebrity could be defined as,
any individual who enjoys public recognition and who uses this recognition when
they appear in the advertisement in front of the consumers.
There are multiple roles that a celebrity spokesperson may play (and the roles may
not be mutually exclusive)
(Kamen, Azhari and Kragh, 1975) in an advertisement such as that of a
spokesperson, endorser, provider of a testimonial, or an actor. A spokesperson
represents the company or brand like a salesman, while an endorser is associated
with the brand even though he may not be an expert in the product category of the
brand. In case of testimonials, the superiority of the product is attested by an
individual or the personal experience of the celebrity. Lastly, the celebrity actor is
only a character in a dramatic presentation in the ad.
McCracken (1989) suggested four different modes of celebrity endorsers namely,
Explicit mode, Implicit mode,
Imperative mode, and the Co present mode. In the explicit mode, the celebrity
announces the endorsement of a product, while in the implicit mode, the celebrity
uses verbal or physical communication for the product. In the imperative mode, the
celebrity suggests the audience to use the endorsed product while the celebrity only
appears with the product in the co present mode.

Introduction: Sledgehammer games making the next Call of Duty
It seems like every year since 2007, Call of Duty has been the same game and for the
past 6 years, fans of the series are getting a little frustrated and tired of it. Paying
$60 for the same game but from a different developer each year, well this article has
everyone asking these questions:
What do you think Sledgehammer s Call of Duty will be?
What will be the strategies of this tactic?
Will this new studio bring Call of Duty to newer heights?
BackGround: The Purpose of Sledgehammer games getting into the mix with Infinity
Ward and Treyarch
Call of Duty has been around since 2003, Call of Duty 2 in 2005 was a huge hit with
the release of the Xbox 360. In 2006 Call of Duty 3 was not that good of a game. In
2007, Call of Duty revolutionized the game with a new engine to help with
multiplayer but ever since then Call of Duty feels like it is the same game every year
Activision is preparing to fix this problem with Sledgehammer games creating the
next Call of Duty for 2014, they helped with the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer back
in 2011. Activision feels that this move will give the developers enough time to
create better ideas for DLC, (which stands for Downloadable Content) and for the
game as a whole.
DLC has been out since 2008 and it is an extension to the game with new maps and
cameos with mainly focusing on the multiplayer
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde
In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters
where we are bound to ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an allegory of the evil and good that exists in
men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the human personality. Since
Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is stronger
than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which
strongly shows the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves
whether good can be separated from evil. Great people are involved in bad things
this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil (Stevenson pp 28 75).
Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert
Louis Stevenson strategically uncovers the broad theme of good and evil in the
book. By the use of the character Dr. Jekyll, the author is able to symbolize good .
Mr. Utterson who is a lawyer based in London, also an old friend of Dr. Jekyll, has
the quality of being loyal to his friends and also concerned about Dr. Jekyll. With
this loyalty, he asks him about his pal Mr. Hyde whom he had left his luggage in
his will (Cresser N.P). You know I never approved of it, said the doctor. Mr.
Utterson believes that the doctor bed them by lies possession to a man whom he
meet but rather than being annoyed. Dr. Jekyll he shows concern like a true loyal
friend would have, from Mr.
Security In College Sports Essay
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (or NCAA) is a discourse
community that most people know about. The NCAA controls all of the college
sports in the United States, with the common goal for each team to be as successful
as possible and to get as much of a profit as possible. The NCAA features the rules
that each team has to follow as well as the rules that each individual athlete has to
follow.
The NCAA uses schedules and newsletters to inform the public about things going on
around the association, and memos to keep coaches, players, and officials up to date.
There are many different genres that the NCAA use and not everyone realizes just
how many there are.
These rules are set in place so that each student acts in an appropriate manner and
so that they are being as safe as they can be. Security is also a genre in the NCAA;
the NCAA requires a high amount of strict security as to keep athletes safe. The
NCAA has a strict set of rules that each and every player/coach/ and official has to
follow. One example of the context is the amount of time an athlete that is being
recruited can visit each school (and for how long), what the coaches can discuss with
the player while on the visit and what can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways the NCAA front office does this is though newsletters. Newsletters are
used as injury reports, update on how each team is doing, and other things such as
upcoming events for each team. The newsletters are put in newspapers, online blogs,
and short articles. Sports journals are for some people the most interesting literature
that is written daily and it is constantly changing. Sports journals are a type of
newsletters that are written to inform and to elaborate on events going on in the
NCAA. And sometimes journals are even a place for reporters and analyzers to rant
on why they think each team is doing things wrong and what they really should be
doing to make their teams

The company intends to market these products both domestically while concurrently

that venue due to aggressive governmental policy to expand composting and its areas
of high density, urban residences. (Best, 2011)
A1(a).
To adequately determine the potential need and viability of the Company s new
products, the Company will conduct market research oriented to the new products
primary stakeholders. This consists of local governments, apartment/condo dwellers,
and multi dwelling building management. Three different research methods to be
utilized in this analysis:

and Canada with a large percentage of high density residential dwellings. The key
information to review are the timelines for implementation along with embedded
penalties and incentives to achieve participation goals. (Seattle Public Utilities, 2015)
Focus groups to residents of affected areas of these programs to determine concerns
of urban composting. They also clarify the anticipated benefits of a solution, both
tangible and intangible, along with the ranking of their importance.

areas. Its purpose is to gauge the consumer s interest level to a product that addresses
the identified problems and provides solutions. They would also

This will impact on a child or young person s intellectual development as they will be
more alert and ready to learn, physical activity is also likely to encourage social and
emotional development as schools will provide sports clubs and after school
activities, giving children and young people the opportunity to socialise and progress
in self esteem.
For a child to understand the world, he/she will understand that people have
different beliefs, colour skin and religion, the world and technology. A child will
also learn other children s names, talk about family and friends. This has a huge
impact on a child s social development; they will have awareness of the world and
the people around them, and therefore are able to confidently make new friends as
they go through transitions such as moving schools. It is important that children and
young people are given the opportunity to speak about themselves, their lives at
home and also listen to others, and this gives them a perspective on the fact that
everybody does different things, others lives differ to theirs and this is something
that needs to be recognised and respected and not judged. Expressive arts and design
means a child or young person making new things, designing and inventing a piece of
art that is unique to them and their style, using a variety of materials and equipment.
It is important to introduce this at a young age, not only does this encourage a child to
Storm Water Pollution In The Chesapeake Bay
One of the recurring problems at Howard County is the large quantities of stormwater
runoff that flow into nearby streams. This is due to meteorological factors and
physical characteristics including: land use changes. The more impervious surfaces
there are the more surface runoff there will be; thus, placing adverse effects upon the
environment. To be exact, these stormwaterrunoffs carry car oils, fertilizers, pet
waste, litter, and sediment to the Chesapeake bay. Hence, 20% of the chesapeake bay
s pollutionis due to stormwater runoff. However, not only does storm water
contribute to pollution, but it also harms wildlife and its environment, as well as
cause floods, erosion, and property damage. To address such issue, Howard

According to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, these rain gardens are
composed of 50% sand, 25% topsoil, and 25% of compost (Alliance for the
Chesapeake Bay) and contain small amount of clay. As the impermeable soil is
replaced with a more permeable soil this facilitates water absorption. Moreover, due
to their deeper roots and low maintainence, majority of plants placed are native
plants such as, buffalo grass, common ninebark, prairie dropseed, etc. In the event of
a rain, these gardens obtain water that flows from impervious surfaces. Once this
occurs, the slight depression of the garden sustains the water, permitting it to
penetrate slowly into the mulch, plants, and soil all while removing pollutants from
the runoff. At HCC, there are plenty amounts of green spaces that aid in the
reduction of stormwater runoff. However, rain gardens have proven to be one of the
many effective measures placed by HCC to reduce stormwater runoff and the effect
of its pollutants. As of April 2016, there has been over 20 rain gardens planted
throughout HCC campus; however, after the SET building was complete, more rain
gardens have been added since
Analysis Of The Dreamlife Of Toasters
In The Dreamlife of Toasters by Heather O Neill she focuses on the aspect of
feelings of joy and sensation. In the opening paragraph it says, They were unable
to experience the same feelings and sensations (O Neill 209), but as the story
continues the reader discovers that this is not true for all of the androids. 4F6 is
one of the unique androids that feels emotion, and gives birth to a baby android
after experiencing her first kiss. The narrator suggests that 4F6 decides to abandon
her baby at the dump due to an overwhelming amount of emotion, this is due to an
android s ability to be easily overwhelmed, 4F6 s fear of unsafety and feelings of
uncertainty proving that emotion carries great power and often clouds one s
judgement. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ability to be overwhelmed by something as little as the stars shows how easy
it is for an android to have their emotions overpower their thoughts, let alone 4F6,
who has the ability to feel more emotion than any other android. Therefore when
4F6 is flooded with emotion, after the baby robot is born, she becomes inundated
and it clouds her judgement of how to properly handle the situation, resulting in
irrational actions. While being overrun by thought, she begins to feel uncertain of
what to do and who to turn to for help. Finally, showing that 4F6 s feeling of
uncertainty overwhelms her, as she has not been programmed to deal with
something so unexpected. Her feelings of uncertainty stem from her programming
as, 4F6 was programmed to know when to yell and when to whisper, when to fuel
up and when to rest; but this matter, she was not at all certain what she knew at all
(214), not knowing what to do created enormous confusion on how to handle the
situation. This uncertainty left her to make a quick impulse and get rid of the baby
android. She had nothing to believe in and nowhere to turn, which left her feelings
of uncertainty even stronger. Most people turn to religion or an elder for advice but,

Anti-Voucher Point of View Essay
Anti Voucher Point of View
The idea of school vouchers sounds like a wonderful idea to get children the best
possible education, until the issue is analyzed more closely. In reality, this system is
hurting more children than the ones that they are helping. The people and institutions
that do not support the use of vouchers believe that by taking away funds from the
already failing public school system, it is causing a decrease in the level of education
for children in public schools. With new initiatives like the No Child Left Behind
campaign causing and the greater demands on teachers and children there is not room
for a cut in funding (Traub 13). There are also increasing amounts of standardized
tests, with guidelines that teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No child attending public school should have to be put at a disadvantage for the sake
of a few privileged children to be able to attend private institutions.
The argument has also been raised by anti voucher supporters about the legitimacy of
the private institutions that the government is subsidizing education for (ADL 2001).
The United States government is supposed to be a non secular institution. This policy
should be implemented in all areas the government controls, including the education
sector. By keeping religion out of the education system, the government has
encouraged the freedom of religion, one of the founding principals of the country;
one of the reasons the first settlers came to the United States. This idea helps keep
discrimination out of the school system, and improves upon the diversity of the
student body of public schools in the United States. By using the funds set aside for
the school vouchers in private institutions that teach religion, some argue that the
government is literally funding the religious education of many children in the
United States (Hendrie 32).
Pro Voucher View
Those who support the vouchers are people who have children enrolled in religious
institutions because they are the ones who are truly benefiting from the increase in
governmental infusion of money into the funding of school vouchers; or people
whose children are at an economic disadvantage (ADL 2001). Some private schools
receive funds from
Analysis Of `` Savage Inequalities `` By Jonathan Kozol
Essay
Martin Luther once said, When schools flourish, all flourishes. Schools are the
institutions where students foundations for lifelong success are built. One would
think, or at least hope, that sixty years after the Brown v. Board of Education
decision, all schools in America would be flourishing or near flourishing. How
wonderful would it be, if politicians and other people in power realized how true
Martin Luther s words were. Unfortunately, this is not the case. As Jonathan Kozol
explicitly depicts in his 1991 novel, Savage Inequalities, inequality in American
public schools still exists despite segregation being outlawed. Even though this book
was written twenty five years ago, it still applies to this day. There are many schools
in America that are still segregated, and the complete opposite of flourishing. This is
due to one main reason: inadequate funding. There is a tremendous amount of
inequality in funding between the poor, cityschools, and the affluent, suburban
schools. Kozol explores these various schools in his novel, and demonstrates how by
underfunding schools that are in dire need of funds, we are essentially setting up our
future generations for failure. We are inhibiting them from reaching their potentials
and showcasing their talents. We ourselves are ripping their chances of a bright
future out of their hands. We are allowing our society to believe segregation in
schools is ok.
Savage Inequalities explores three main

#### incomplete #### The proliferation stage took place in the era of economic
reforms (1978 to 1994) with the normalization of US China relations following the
visit of President Nixon (Li and Ding, 2013). The country began to open up and
moved its focus from the struggle for class to the development of productive power.
The country began to transit from a centrally planned to a market economy. This
means that various ministries, and provincial and municipalities were more
autonomous in decision making and therefore made a choice to develop their
regions through the auto industry development leading to the proliferation stage.
This stage occurred in two ways: a rise in output volume and the range of vehicles
produced. In the period when the economy was centrally planned, variety and
volume were planned by the central government as opposed to being controlled by
the market. Majority of the vehicles produced were trucks with passenger vehicle
production being limited. At that time, saloon cars could only be used by senior
officials in government with restriction on the rank of officials that were allowed to
use vehicles (Duysters, Lemmens, Jintian and Jacob, 2009). When planning was
relaxed, the number of customers increased with mini vans and saloon cars being
produced for various purposes including as taxis. Given that the facilities that were
existing (FAW and Dongfeng) were controlled by the central government, they were
not flexible and did not produce the

Minority Relations

Over the years television has been known to be one of the major educating and
socializing institution in America. Television in today s society is able to play a
powerful key through which individuals can be informed, hold forums, and voice
their opinion s. Televisionis also important because it offers us glimpses into
minority life and minority figures. When sociologists examine minorities in
television they document how minorities are portrayed and how those portrayals
have changed over the years. Through time, minorities in television have been able to
make moderate gains whether they are in front of or behind cameras. However, they
continue to remain significantly underrepresented as leading actors in films, as
writers, and as TV show creators. Even though minorities are significantly
underrepresented in today s society the TV industry has been pushing to give an
opportunity to many minority groups in succeeding in the media. Several TV shows
and commercials have succeeded in the TV industry to try and change how minorities
are underrepresented, however, there are also shows that reinforce stereotypes and
are prejudice towards minorities.
Grey s Anatomy is a television medical drama that has been running for a little over
a decade. This show is known to have one of the most diverse cast in the history of
American television. Actors include white, black,

  • 3. Babylonian Captivity It is no surprise that Christians unschooled in the history of the development of the Christianity s Bible based beliefs and teachings, and with the beliefs of the Early Church Fathers (such as are found in Pelikan s excellent four volume work), do not grasp the Faith once delivered to the saints, but insist upon non biblical documents that are not at all points in agreement with the information written under divine inspiration as found in the books of the Holy Bible. When the Babylonian Captivity of the Jews ended after seventy years, the majority of returnees to Palestine could not speak Hebrew. They spoke Aramaic, the language of Babylon, having either forgotten their native tongue, the aged, or never having learned it, the middle aged
  • 4. Examples Of Regression In Jane Eyre Does Bella Swan represent progress or regression in the portrayal of female empowerment compared to Jane Eyre? History is the base and foundation that is set to make a brighter and better future. The future is developed through mistakes and faults that have been made right, as human beings are learning creatures that require the process of constant trial and error. Yet in the world of fiction and literature, this has not been the case. Two immensely well known, famous and loved novel from their respective generations, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, has been set as the representative case of the regression in the portrayal of female empowerment over time. The book Jane Eyre was published in 1847 as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a feminist, Jane is able to protect herself when she is in a situation where she needs to be defended. For instance, when her brutish older cousin John hurls a hardcover book at her head, she pounces back by attacking him in defense. She also faces no difficulty in successfully defeating her cold hearted aunt in a verbal fight, just at the tender age of ten. Jane is surely unafraid of the consequences that she has to face on actions that she believes as rightfully done. This amazing trait remains even as she proceeds into adulthood and meets the love of her life. She is able to deal with, and even stand up to Mr. Rochester s unreasonable verbal attacks directed at her. She clearly shows her dauntless side of her personality, by speaking her own mind when Mr. Rochester demands for the money that he had given her. Jane refuses clear cut, and Mr. Rochester asks to then at least let him see the cash. Jane refuses again by retorting that he is not to be trusted. Jane has an honest and truthful soul who knows how to speak for herself, unlike many women during this period of time. Jane is never concerned about what other people would think of her if she tells them the exact truth about everything. She is able to inform her departure by cancelling off the wedding between herself and Mr. Rochester after what she had witnessed and experienced. Jane cries out you are a married man or as good as a married man, and wed to one inferior to you to one with whom you have no sympathy whom I do not believe you truly love; for I have seen and heard you sneer at her. I would scorn such a union: therefore I am better than you let me go! Jane is able to truthfully utter her thoughts, her true opinion without being afraid; even if it was to someone she dearly loved. When Mr. Rochester angrily cries out, Jane, be still; don t struggle so, like a wild frantic bird that is rending its own plumage in its

  • 6. 1983 Apush Dbq James McManus Mr. Colameco AP United States History 7 January 2013 Example Document Based Question Nearly all of the reasons for agrarian discontent in the late 19th century stem from three areas: land, transportation, and money. The farmers were fighting the perceived threats posed by monopolies and trusts, railroads, and the demonetization of silver. The American farmer during this period already had his fair share of problems which, compared to the success of the industrialized businessmen, resulted in much of the animosity between the two groups. The fact of the matter was farmers had entered a viscous cycle. Wheat and cotton, once the staples of American agriculture were selling at such low prices that it was almost impossible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As crop prices fell, farmers were forced to mortgage their lands and take out loans in order to grow more and more crop just to break even. When these tactics were ultimately unsuccessful, the banks closed in and quickly foreclosed on the farmers estates. These mass foreclosures led to a belief among farmers that they were all slaves to their eastern masters and that only the freedom of unlimited silver would release them from their shackles. One can see the argument from the farmer s side. The banks gave out loans with exorbitant interest rates simply because they could. From 1865 to 1895, the population had risen by close to eighty percent whereas the amount of currency in circulation had only gone up by about sixty percent. With this deflation, the farmers were paying back double and triple the amount of money that they had originally borrowed. With free coinage of silver, these loans would be balanced and the farmers could suddenly afford their mortgages. This argument for silver was made famous by William Jennings Bryan s Cross of Gold speech at the democratic nomination convention. Bryan would not rest until the Crime of 1873 was rectified. McKinley however shows the counter argument towards this radical inflation. Coining silver would be a temporary stay of execution for the farmers. It would not make farming any more profitable, but would only cheat the banks out of money that the farmers had agreed to pay them. The farmers were
  • 7. The Greater Good Is All That Matters I believe the world would be a better place if people could go back and change their past mistakes to the choice that was overall best. I think that this point of view is the most ethical. Ethics is all about doing the right thing and I believe if you could make the past better, its overall worth it and using utilitarianism ideas I agree with the statement the greater good is all that matters If you have to do something mildly unethical to prevent something very unethical, I believe it is overall worth it in the long run. Every person no matter who you are you will always have decisions in life they don t know if it s the right thing to do, wouldn t it be better if you didn t have to think about it and just automatically know what the better choice is? Remember all those times you have regretted not going to something and missing out or going to something and getting in trouble or having a bad time and wishing you had done the other choice? As Jeremy Bentham once said, Nature has placed mankind under the government of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure... they govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we can make to throw off our... The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end. is what Leon Trotsky said in his book Their Morals and Ours, in this quote I believe he is saying how it s okay to do something unethical as long as the outcome is for the greater good and I agree. Overall changing something you you have done is more ethical than not changing it and have yourself doing something unethical as
  • 8. The Soviet Union During The Cold War After World War II, the world was in a state of heightened suspicion that was lead by ideological differences. There were two main superpowers that shaped perceptions of the rest of the world. One was the United States, who had come out of the war fairly unscathed, which was due to little to no conflict directly on its soil, in addition to the possession of atomic weapons and a strong navy and air force. The other major player was the Soviet Union, whose industry was recovered during the first few years of the war in addition to a powerful army. These superpowers had a large impact on other countries due to their ideological differences: the United States favored a capitalistic democracy while the Soviet Union believed in communism. One country that was heavily influenced by both superpowers at the same time was Korea, which was ultimately split into two halves. The United States had a heavy impact on the south while the Soviet Union had an effect on the north. During the Cold Warfrom the late 1940s to the early 1950s, The Soviet Union and the United States wanted to set up spheres of influence in foreign countries so that they could observe what the other was doing, which ultimately lead to the exploitation of North and South Korea. One way to show that the Soviet Union took advantage of North Koreais through the example of the Prime Minister of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea, Kim Il Sung, attempting to convey that he will always be an ally of the Soviet
  • 9. The Dynamite During the industrial revolution, many amazing inventions arose and because of them the world changed. Some of these inventions affected the world in a positive way and solved many problems. Yet other inventions were the cause of misery to the entire human kind. What about an invention that caused both joy and misery? It s an invention that affects our world until this day. This invention is the Dynamite. Let me first introduce you to the inventor of the dynamite. The dynamite was invented by Swedish scientist Alfred Nobelin 1866. Let me now tell you how this dynamite affected the industrial era. It was created so it can be used in construction, mining and demolition. It was used to carve in the mountains in order to create railroads and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you would compare the number of deaths in war before and after the dynamite, you would be amazed. People then were sure that the country that had the dynamite was probably going to be the strongest. European countries started competing in creating the dynamite and started selling it world wide. You might say that this was a positive impact but because people at that time didn t quite understand the dynamite that this trade usually ended in death. Because shipping dynamite at that time wasn t safe, many catastrophes happened. For example, a shipment route to California blew up in Panama, killing 60 and causing a half million dollars in damage. Nobel s own dynamite factory in Hamburg, Germany, blew up leaving nothing but a shattered foundation and killing his brother. Later in WW1 the dynamite became one of the popular weapons in used. Because of this dynamite, thousands lost their lives, thousands lost their homes and millions lost their loved ones. It turned Earth into a living hell. After the daughter heard what the Dragon King had done, she escaped the palace and ran towards her father who has now turned into a rock. Black History Month is an accomplishment that we should be proud of in the Black community. Carter G. Woodson chose the month of February for some important reasons. For instance, Black History Month marks the birthdays of two men who influenced the black population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln according to Woodson. In addition, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed on February 3, 1870, which granted blacks the right to vote. Introduction: I will demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding focusing on REBT and CT, combining them to produce a fluid response to answer the question. Background: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a generic umbrella term for a category of therapy approach that focus on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and actions. There are many different types of CBT. Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (Ellis s REBT) and Cognitive Therapy (Beck s CT) are the two main types. Current CBT practice originated in the 50s and 60s with Ellis, Lazarus (MultiModal Therapy) and Beck, building upon the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CT focuses on the inferences clients draw about certain events. For example, if a partner leaves the relationship for another person clients may tell themselves, I ll never find someone to love me. This prediction may lead to feeling depressed and avoiding opportunities to find another partner. A cognitive therapist will help clients to realize that they have no way to predict the future and get them to rethink their inference. When they stop making negative predictions about the future, they are more likely to develop realistic problem solving methods. Accepting uncertainty: REBT differs from most of the other CBTs by focusing on the clients evaluation of events. Very often, when we evaluate negative events, our evaluations are rigid and extreme. These rigid and extreme evaluations lead to emotional disturbance and self defeating behavior. When we modify our rigid and extreme beliefs, our emotional responses are healthier and our actions, particularly to problems are more efficient. For example, if a client failed an important exam. According to Ellis, clients may evaluate the situation as awful and tend to make themselves depressed. REBT encourages clients to reconsider this evaluation and to conclude that failing the exam is probably not the end of the world.

Totalitarianism appears as a prime example for this situation. In George Orwell s novel, Nineteen Eighty Four, he discusses the effects and issues of totalitarianism in society. Although the idea appears beneficial at the time, the outcome proves detrimental. Through the understanding of totalitarianism, Orwell s allusions to a corrupt government system similar to Nazi Germany and communist Russia, and his views of a totalitarian government compared to the modern American society, the reader comprehends why Orwell expresses such disdain towards a government with complete and total control over their people. In the novel, a person possesses no freedoms and everyone acts the same. If a person acts out or even thinks ill about the party, the secret police knock at the door to haul that individual off. An example of the lack of this amendment appears in the novel. [Goldstein] was advocating freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought (Orwell 14). Goldstein, a character in Nineteen Eighty Four, wanted each of the freedoms, which, coincidently, appear in the amendments. The second amendment prevalent throughout the novel becomes the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits the searching of an individual s belongings and arresting that individual without a warrant (Bill of Rights 2). This seems impossible within the novel since the Thought Police storm and rampage through an individual s stuff with the only reason of suspicion. In modern America, police obtain no right to go through a person s belonging without a warrant, but in the book it states, it was the Police Patrol, snooping into peoples windows (Orwell 6). This idea remains impossible in today s terms because it obstructs the Fourth Amendment. Finally, the last amendment present in Nineteen Eighty Four arises as the Sixth Amendment. This amendment says that all people have the right to a speedy and fair trial (Bill of Rights 2). In Nineteen Eighty Four, trials are nonexistent and criminals simply vanish. For example, In the vast majority of cases there was no trial, no report of the arrest. People simply disappeared, always during the night (Orwell 20). Compared to the United States, the concept seems dumbfounding. A case without a trial in today s society seems foreign. This becomes the reasoning for why Nineteen
  • 18. A Brief Note On The Air Temperature Inversion 1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why? The air temperature inversion is more likely to occur on a calm night versus a windy night. The inversion will happen when the air, closest to the earth is a lot colder than the air higher in the atmosphere. Wind will naturally mix and causing the temperature preventing an inversion. Temperature inversion may happen during a cold front moving through. 2. What are the various methods used to protect sensitive crops from damaging low temperatures? Explain why each method works. Fruit trees can be very vulnerable for farmers (Ahrens 65). Many ways a farmer can protect their crops as they are blossoming during low temperatures is by using orchard heaters or Smudge pots. Smudge pot warm the air around the trees close to the ground producing heat to raise the temperatures. Another way that farmer protects their crops to warm the ground. They way the ground is warmed is through a devices such as a wind machine (Ahrens 65). A wind machine is a fan, which emulates propellers. One of the advantages that the wind machines provide is that they turn on and off as they reach certain temperatures. The basic way to protect crops is by covering them. On a cold night to protect small plants of shrubs covering them with straw, cloth, or plastic sheeting will prevent ground heat from being radiated away (Ahrens 65). 3. In 1985, the parents of John McCollum filed a civil suit against Ozzy Osborne citing that it was the music and lyrical content of Ozzy s album that resulted in their son s suicide in 1984. John had been listening to Osborne s music when he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, killing himself (Sampar, 2005, p.180). John s parents felt that because Ozzy was their son s idol, he influenced John to commit suicide through the spoken words of his music. • 38. Bus Rapid Transit Service Design The third article, Bus Rapid Transit Service Design, by American Public Transportation Association focuses on fare evasion and smart cards on BRT. The overall objective of BRT is to enhance transit through travel times that are faster than traditional fixed route bus service. While seen as a premium service, BRT should not be implemented at the expense of existing fixed route service, but rather in a way that complements and enhances other transit services (APTA). With buses coming every ten to fifteen minutes, fare evasions seems to be the big issue. Busoperators do not have time to inspect fares because that would delay the service. In addition, transit agencies are likely to implement a smart card system because it will minimize and reduce fare evasion. BRT routes operate at a high frequency, which leads to an increased percentage of riders. The majority of transit agencies use the proof of verification method, which increases the numbers of fare evaders because fare inspections do not happen very often. Also, bus operators like to keep their buses on schedule so it is impossible for them to inspect fares without delaying the bus. As stated in this article Even with inspectors, some revenue loss due to fare evasion should be expected with off board payment (approximately 4 to 5 percent) (APTA). Furthermore, if transit agencies implement smart cards, riders will only need to tap card reader before boarding the bus allowing fast boarding without defeating the purpose

A spokesperson represents the company or brand like a salesman, while an endorser is associated with the brand even though he may not be an expert in the product category of the brand. In case of testimonials, the superiority of the product is attested by an individual or the personal experience of the celebrity. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil (Stevenson pp 28 75). The United States government is supposed to be a non secular institution. This policy should be implemented in all areas the government controls, including the education sector. By keeping religion out of the education system, the government has encouraged the freedom of religion, one of the founding principals of the country; one of the reasons the first settlers came to the United States. This idea helps keep discrimination out of the school system, and improves upon the diversity of the student body of public schools in the United States. By using the funds set aside for the school vouchers in private institutions that teach religion, some argue that the government is literally funding the religious education of many children in the United States (Hendrie 32). Pro Voucher View Those who support the vouchers are people who have children enrolled in religious institutions because they are the ones who are truly benefiting from the increase in governmental infusion of money into the funding of school vouchers; or people whose children are at an economic disadvantage (ADL 2001). • 51. Analysis Of `` Savage Inequalities `` By Jonathan Kozol Essay Martin Luther once said, When schools flourish, all flourishes. Schools are the institutions where students foundations for lifelong success are built. One would think, or at least hope, that sixty years after the Brown v. Board of Education decision, all schools in America would be flourishing or near flourishing. How wonderful would it be, if politicians and other people in power realized how true Martin Luther s words were. Unfortunately, this is not the case. As Jonathan Kozol explicitly depicts in his 1991 novel, Savage Inequalities, inequality in American public schools still exists despite segregation being outlawed. Even though this book was written twenty five years ago, it still applies to this day. There are many schools in America that are still segregated, and the complete opposite of flourishing. This is due to one main reason: inadequate funding. There is a tremendous amount of inequality in funding between the poor, cityschools, and the affluent, suburban schools. Kozol explores these various schools in his novel, and demonstrates how by underfunding schools that are in dire need of funds, we are essentially setting up our future generations for failure. We are inhibiting them from reaching their potentials and showcasing their talents. We ourselves are ripping their chances of a bright future out of their hands. We are allowing our society to believe segregation in schools is ok. Savage Inequalities explores three main

The country began to open up and moved its focus from the struggle for class to the development of productive power. The country began to transit from a centrally planned to a market economy. This means that various ministries, and provincial and municipalities were more autonomous in decision making and therefore made a choice to develop their regions through the auto industry development leading to the proliferation stage. This stage occurred in two ways: a rise in output volume and the range of vehicles produced. In the period when the economy was centrally planned, variety and volume were planned by the central government as opposed to being controlled by the market. Majority of the vehicles produced were trucks with passenger vehicle production being limited. At that time, saloon cars could only be used by senior officials in government with restriction on the rank of officials that were allowed to use vehicles (Duysters, Lemmens, Jintian and Jacob, 2009). When planning was relaxed, the number of customers increased with mini vans and saloon cars being produced for various purposes including as taxis. Given that the facilities that were existing (FAW and Dongfeng) were controlled by the central government, they were not flexible and did not produce the

Television in today s society is able to play a powerful key through which individuals can be informed, hold forums, and voice their opinion s. Televisionis also important because it offers us glimpses into minority life and minority figures. When sociologists examine minorities in television they document how minorities are portrayed and how those portrayals have changed over the years. Through time, minorities in television have been able to make moderate gains whether they are in front of or behind cameras.
